- 1:32Speaker 2: it was like a blizzard with snow squalls and wrecks everywhere,
- 1:35Speaker 2: just about ten miles month road toward Elkview and on

- 1:41Speaker 2: a mix of rain and snow tonight coming up. State

- 2:21Speaker 2: calling the game, and he's gonna dip in a little
- 2:23Speaker 2: bit later on the show to give us a little
- 2:24Speaker 2: bit of a preview of what's really one of the
- 2:26Speaker 2: biggest high school basketball games here in Thekanaw Valley in
- 2:29Speaker 2: some time. We'll get to that with Jeff coming up

- 2:48Speaker 2: Adopt Me Please pent of the Week. Angie, good morning,
- 2:51Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Good morning, how is everyone this morning.
- 2:55Speaker 2: We are doing just fine. Thank you for being here.
- 2:57Speaker 2: As always. Our pet of the week's picture posted on
- 2:59Speaker 2: Dave on Radio and Facebook and the WHS Network Facebook
- 3:02Speaker 2: page as well also at Dave a seventy on ex
- 3:05Speaker 2: Angie a beautiful dog. And I know you've got a
- 3:08Speaker 2: personal interest in this dog because I think you were
- 3:11Speaker 2: fostering this dog for a while. His name is Ozzie
- 3:14Speaker 2: and he's got a great story. Tell us all about Ozzie.
- 3:18Speaker 5: So I actually still am currently fostering Ozzy. He's a
- 3:22Speaker 5: hard one to let go of. He When Ozzy came
- 3:25Speaker 5: to the shelter at about a month and a half old,
- 3:30Speaker 5: he had broken his leg in his previous foster home
- 3:34Speaker 5: and it was something as simple as jumping off the
- 3:36Speaker 5: couch and so our vetch went in and amputated his leg.
- 3:41Speaker 5: It was a pretty nasty break that couldn't have been
- 3:44Speaker 5: saved with normal splints or casting. And when his leg
- 3:49Speaker 5: was amputated where he was so small, he had one
- 3:53Speaker 5: in a million adverse reaction to anesthesia that was used
- 3:57Speaker 5: for surgery. His heart stopped, but our medical team, as
- 4:01Speaker 5: talented as they are, were able to bring him back
- 4:04Speaker 5: to life essentially and for a couple of weeks. He
- 4:08Speaker 5: was deaf and blind from that, but now he's back
- 4:11Speaker 5: to one hundred percent minus the leg. He still doesn't
- 4:15Speaker 5: have his back leg. But that is Ozzie's story. It's
- 4:21Speaker 5: one that I call him zombie boy essentially because he
- 4:24Speaker 5: died and came back to.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Life if he did indeed, and again, I mean you said,
- 4:29Speaker 2: that's like a one in a million thing that an
- 4:32Speaker 2: animal would have an adverse reaction to the anesthesia like that.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Yeah, it is something that is very, very very rare,
- 4:42Speaker 5: and it could happen anywhere. It's not something that just
- 4:45Speaker 5: happens in shelter medicine. You know, your regular veterinarians that
- 4:49Speaker 5: aren't practicing shelter med on own pets can have that
- 4:53Speaker 5: happen as well. So it's something that's really rare.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Well, since you've been fostering and you continue to foster
- 4:58Speaker 2: Ozzie in your home, to give a tough tell us
- 5:00Speaker 2: about Ozzie's personality.
- 5:02Speaker 5: So Ozzy is now four months old, and when I
- 5:05Speaker 5: tell you, he is the best behaved puppy I have
- 5:08Speaker 5: ever had. He doesn't really chew things up, he doesn't
- 5:12Speaker 5: I've not lost any pairs of shoes. Yet, let's say
- 5:14Speaker 5: that he keeps his chewing too bones and toys. He's
- 5:19Speaker 5: almost housebroken, which I cannot believe for a four months
- 5:23Speaker 5: old puppy that's usually, you know, something that takes a
- 5:26Speaker 5: lot of work. But he's almost housebroken. He completely ignores
- 5:30Speaker 5: the cats that I have in my home. He just
- 5:31Speaker 5: likes to watch them walk around my house. And he's
- 5:35Speaker 5: great with my two dogs. I have an extra large
- 5:37Speaker 5: Saint Bernard that he loves to play with, and then
- 5:40Speaker 5: I have a smaller breed dog that he kind of ignores.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Great with dogs as well.
- 5:45Speaker 2: What about with kids? Has he been around kids?
- 5:48Speaker 5: So I don't have any kids, thank goodness, But I'm
- 5:52Speaker 5: sure that I'm sure that he would be lovely with kids.
- 5:56Speaker 5: He's a young puppy and he's not very nippy like
- 5:59Speaker 5: puppies usually are, so I think he would do beautifully
- 6:02Speaker 5: with kids as well.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I mean, based on his personality, as you said, I
- 6:06Speaker 2: don't know why he wouldn't be good with kids. I mean,
- 6:08Speaker 2: you know, he's good with other animals, he's good with cats.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I mean, it wouldn't make any sense for him not
- 6:12Speaker 2: to be good with kids. I wouldn't think. But as
- 6:14Speaker 2: always you can arrange to, you know, have your kids
- 6:16Speaker 2: come around and do a little, you know, a visit
- 6:19Speaker 2: with him, just to make sure he's okay. What kind
- 6:21Speaker 2: of dog is Ozzie?
- 6:23Speaker 5: So that is that's a good question. He's very petite
- 6:26Speaker 5: at four months old, he's probably I would say, less
- 6:29Speaker 5: than ten pounds. He's he's a little guy. He's got
- 6:33Speaker 5: really long legs and like kind of folded slender ears
- 6:37Speaker 5: like a greyhound would have. Do I think he's a
- 6:40Speaker 5: purebred greyhound. No, but that's just kind of like what
- 6:42Speaker 5: his body shape reminds me of.
- 6:45Speaker 6: Jain.
- 6:45Speaker 2: We're talking Angie Gillenwater from the Gnaal charcet Ymane Association
- 6:48Speaker 2: telling us about Ozzy this week's Adopt Me Please put
- 6:51Speaker 2: of the week and again the dog is the pictures

- 7:21Speaker 2: Seed Dealer for details. What's new at the shelter this week, Angie.
- 7:26Speaker 5: We are trying to battle getting dogs outside and getting
- 7:29Speaker 5: their time outside versus this weather that we're having. So
- 7:34Speaker 5: we are, you know, fighting with the weather essentially, and
- 7:38Speaker 5: we are taking on a lot of new medical cases.
- 7:43Speaker 5: And that those are the two big things that we
- 7:45Speaker 5: have seen this past week.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I got a text here it said the textas said,
- 7:49Speaker 2: they saw the heartbreaking update this morning that the Saint
- 7:51Speaker 2: Auban's stray had passed away overnight. Did you ever figure
- 7:54Speaker 2: out what happened to him?
- 7:56Speaker 5: So, I have not gotten any updates on what it
- 7:59Speaker 5: specifically happen into the cat. Usually when they come in
- 8:03Speaker 5: that condition, it can be like some type of organ
- 8:06Speaker 5: failure or you know, hit by car and as a
- 8:09Speaker 5: result of that, some type of organ is failing. So
- 8:13Speaker 5: I haven't got any exact updates. But I did if
- 8:15Speaker 5: anyone was going to ask about that, I was going
- 8:17Speaker 5: to share that it sadly did pass away.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yeah, how are your numbers looking at the shelter right now?
- 8:24Speaker 5: So we are pretty manageable on cats. They are getting
- 8:27Speaker 5: adopted fairly quickly. Dogs and puppies once again are our issue.
- 8:33Speaker 5: I think we have maybe one or two open kennels
- 8:36Speaker 5: in our big dog area for you know, emergencies to
- 8:40Speaker 5: come in. And we have zero open space in our
- 8:42Speaker 5: puppy area, which is why Ozzy is at my house.
- 8:46Speaker 5: So dogs and puppies are we are really hurting. So
- 8:50Speaker 5: if you want to foster or not something, that would
- 8:53Speaker 5: be a great time to help us out.
- 8:55Speaker 2: And I want to give a big shout out to
- 8:56Speaker 2: my coworker. His office is next to mine. It's just
- 8:59Speaker 2: low Scott from her sister station V one hundred. Logan.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I don't think he'd mind me telling the story. He
- 9:05Speaker 2: adopted a dog named Jupiter from the shelter last week
- 9:09Speaker 2: and he brought Jupiter into the office last week and
- 9:12Speaker 2: he entertained all of us here just what. I don't
- 9:16Speaker 2: know whether you know particularly about this dog, but what
- 9:18Speaker 2: a beautiful, beautiful dog.
- 9:20Speaker 5: I do know Jupiter, and I want to give a
- 9:23Speaker 5: special shout out to Logan. Just because Jupiter was one
- 9:27Speaker 5: of our longer term residents that you know, sat with
- 9:30Speaker 5: us for months on end with no interest, and you
- 9:33Speaker 5: see what a perfect dog Jupiter is. So I just
- 9:37Speaker 5: want to give a special shout out to Logan for
- 9:39Speaker 5: looking past like that long term resident shelter dog. You know,
- 9:43Speaker 5: stigma that is around these dogs, and you know, in
- 9:46Speaker 5: turn getting a pretty good best friend, you.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Know, And and no one knows why people choose if
- 9:52Speaker 2: they if they, you know, God bless anybody that goes
- 9:54Speaker 2: to the shelter and adopts an animal and doesn't go
- 9:57Speaker 2: to a breeder or anything like that. So I've had
- 10:00Speaker 2: off to those folks that do that, but no one
- 10:02Speaker 2: really knows what goes into you know, how you make
- 10:05Speaker 2: that choice. With my wife and I are our animals
- 10:09Speaker 2: found us. You know, we we got what we got
- 10:11Speaker 2: a cat from the shelter, like you know, almost thirty
- 10:14Speaker 2: years ago. Of course that much long since past. Now
- 10:16Speaker 2: the other cats that we have just showed up at
- 10:18Speaker 2: our house. They adopted us. But when you go to
- 10:21Speaker 2: the shelter, and I guess maybe there's a stigma because
- 10:24Speaker 2: maybe do people ask, you know, how long has this
- 10:26Speaker 2: particular critter been here? And you you wonder why or whatever,
- 10:31Speaker 2: But I mean, you know, I haven't talked to Logan
- 10:34Speaker 2: about it in a couple of days, but when he
- 10:35Speaker 2: had that dog in the studio last week in the
- 10:37Speaker 2: offices here, I mean, you couldn't have asked for a
- 10:39Speaker 2: better dog. I mean, he was up and and you
- 10:41Speaker 2: I don't know whether you've ever been in our building,
- 10:43Speaker 2: and it's kind of a mazed a lot of stairs.
- 10:44Speaker 2: The dog was just running up and down the stairs
- 10:46Speaker 2: and greeting everybody. What a what a great dog, I mean,
- 10:50Speaker 2: And hats off two Logan are from her sister Station
- 10:52Speaker 2: V one hundred for adopting Jupiter because he is a
- 10:54Speaker 2: great dog. You guys are gonna be out and about
- 10:57Speaker 2: anywhere on this cold winter's weekend.
- 11:00Speaker 5: It's a little too cold for us this weekend, understood. Yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 5: Next Tuesday we'll be at Bridge Valley like a little
- 11:07Speaker 5: Palls to de Stress moment with their students. So next Tuesday,
- 11:12Speaker 5: twelve to.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Two at Bridge Valley. Our good friend doctor Casey Sachs,
- 11:15Speaker 2: who was just on the show with us here a
- 11:16Speaker 2: couple of days ago. What are you in need of
- 11:18Speaker 2: right now?
- 11:20Speaker 5: Surprisingly, Dawn Dishwashing, Actually let me just rephrase that dishwashing
- 11:24Speaker 5: like what doesn't have to be done well clean dishes,
- 11:26Speaker 5: we will use it. And wet puppy and dog food.
- 11:31Speaker 5: We're not picky about brands. And then, as always, volunteers
- 11:34Speaker 5: and people that want to come up and spend time
- 11:36Speaker 5: with the animals that we have, and.
- 11:38Speaker 2: We try to mention that to people because there are
- 11:40Speaker 2: people that have a kind heart and want to help animals,
- 11:42Speaker 2: but maybe they live in an apartment or they've already
- 11:44Speaker 2: got enough pets. And there's other ways that you can
- 11:46Speaker 2: help out the shelters without actually adopting a pet. You
- 11:51Speaker 2: can do cash donations, you can donate old old towels.
- 11:55Speaker 2: We had a text last week where somebody said, if
- 11:56Speaker 2: you happen to get towels for Christmas and you're looking
- 11:59Speaker 2: to something to do, don't your old ones take them
- 12:01Speaker 2: to the shelter. There's just so many ways, Angie, that
- 12:03Speaker 2: people can help out that doesn't even involve adopting a pet.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Absolutely donating your pets old supplies and you know, when
- 12:12Speaker 5: they get new ones, you can give us your old
- 12:14Speaker 5: pet supplies. There's also ways to help us that really
- 12:16Speaker 5: don't even involve leaving your house. If you want to share,
- 12:20Speaker 5: like your Facebook profile casey aha is full. Please go
- 12:23Speaker 5: look at their animals. This is their address. You know,
- 12:26Speaker 5: that helps us just as much as you know a
- 12:29Speaker 5: cash donation would are taking a dog out to foster.
- 12:31Speaker 5: There's so many ways to help us out.
- 12:34Speaker 2: All right, Angie, appreciate it. We'll talk to you next week.
- 12:36Speaker 5: Thanks a lot, absolutely, thank you so much.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Ang You get a watter from the GNNAL Charleston Humane
- 12:41Speaker 2: Association again. Put of the week's picture posted on Dave
- 12:44Speaker 2: Island Radio and Facebook, the WCHS network Facebook page and
- 12:47Speaker 2: at Dave A seventy on X. It's Ozzy a unique story.
- 12:51Speaker 2: And oh, by the way, I just happen to think
- 12:53Speaker 2: about this, you know, because I do some work on
- 12:54Speaker 2: our sister station ninety eight seven a mouth. And you
- 12:57Speaker 2: might see Ozzie's picture posting up on the Mountain Facebook
- 13:01Speaker 2: page letter two, because I mean, the dog's name is Ozzy, Okay,
- 13:04Speaker 2: so it's a natural. So maybe on the Mountain Facebook
- 13:08Speaker 2: page a little bit as well. About four months old,
- 13:12Speaker 2: he was adopted or he was being fostered, I think,
- 13:15Speaker 2: and he jumped off the couch and broke his leg.
- 13:19Speaker 2: When he was about one month old, and he broke
- 13:21Speaker 2: it so badly that the leg had to be amputated.
- 13:24Speaker 2: So he's a three legged wonder. While he was undergoing
- 13:28Speaker 2: the surgery, his heart stopped. They were able to bring
- 13:32Speaker 2: him back, but for a while he was blind and deaf,
- 13:36Speaker 2: but that all came back. So other than the fact
- 13:39Speaker 2: he only has three legs, perfect dog. He is housebroken,
- 13:42Speaker 2: he's good with other dogs, he's good with cats, no
- 13:45Speaker 2: reason to believe that he would not be good with kids.
- 13:48Speaker 2: He is neutered, and because he's sponsored, he is absolutely free.
- 13:52Speaker 2: What a great dog. He's currently living in Angie's house.
- 13:55Speaker 2: She's fostering him right now. So if you are looking
- 13:57Speaker 2: for a great, great dog for your fan family, go
- 14:01Speaker 2: get Ozzy again. His pictures posted Dave Allen Radio on

- 17:41Speaker 2: State Senator Tom Wellas from the fifteenth a Republican who

- 17:48Speaker 2: in the primary. Good morning, sir, and welcome to the show.
- 17:51Speaker 9: Hey, good morning, Dave. Thanks so much for having me.
- 17:53Speaker 2: How you doing I'm doing fine, Thank you for being here.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Before we talk about your run for US Senate, I
- 17:57Speaker 2: want to talk about your current role in the legislature,
- 18:00Speaker 2: your third day in your takes so far.
- 18:04Speaker 6: Hey, we're up to.
- 18:05Speaker 9: A great start. You know, I thought that the governor
- 18:09Speaker 9: laid out some good priorities for us in his state
- 18:11Speaker 9: of the state. We also have our priorities in the
- 18:15Speaker 9: legislature as well. For me personally as Chairman of the Judiciary.
- 18:19Speaker 9: I'm focused on what I hear the people in West
- 18:21Speaker 9: Virginia telling me is important to them, and primarily that's
- 18:25Speaker 9: economic prosperity for families in West Virginia. So I've got
- 18:29Speaker 9: my team in the Judiciary focused on how can we
- 18:32Speaker 9: make West Virginia one of the most business friendly states
- 18:36Speaker 9: in the country, so easy to start jobs for West
- 18:39Speaker 9: Virginians who want to start their own company, and also
- 18:42Speaker 9: attractive for businesses outside the state to move in. So
- 18:46Speaker 9: we're taking a look at what the top five most
- 18:48Speaker 9: business friendly states are doing. Obviously, we want to make
- 18:51Speaker 9: sure we've got all the protections for consumers and that
- 18:54Speaker 9: sort of thing, but we want to make it as
- 18:56Speaker 9: easy as possible to start a business and conduct a business,
- 18:59Speaker 9: So we take the least amount of time from business
- 19:02Speaker 9: owners so they can focus on their business and prosper
- 19:05Speaker 9: and then that creates jobs and puts food on the
- 19:07Speaker 9: table for West Virginian families. So that's that's my number
- 19:10Speaker 9: one priority. We're also looking at reforming the child welfare
- 19:13Speaker 9: system and we just want to make West Virginia the
- 19:16Speaker 9: best place in the country for a kid to grow up,
- 19:18Speaker 9: and so we're working with the administration, with the House,
- 19:22Speaker 9: the Senate. There's a lot of cooperation, a lot of
- 19:24Speaker 9: a lot of talks. We had several study groups and
- 19:29Speaker 9: in town halls on the way leading up the session.
- 19:32Speaker 9: I know the Governor, Secretary mayor did as well on
- 19:35Speaker 9: the on the administration side, So reforming child welfare, the CPS,
- 19:39Speaker 9: and then and then improving our educational outcomes. For me,
- 19:43Speaker 9: that means two things really. I think one, we want
- 19:46Speaker 9: to support our public teachers and I'm hoping we can
- 19:48Speaker 9: give the public teachers a pay raise this session. But
- 19:51Speaker 9: I also, in my opinion, means we need to protect
- 19:54Speaker 9: school choice so parents, parents know best what's the best
- 19:57Speaker 9: for their kids, and they've got the the authority and
- 20:01Speaker 9: the resources to put their kids in the best school
- 20:03Speaker 9: for their particular child. So those are some of the
- 20:05Speaker 9: priorities we're working on.
- 20:07Speaker 2: What where are you and the Governor's proposed tax cut.
- 20:12Speaker 9: So we just got the budget Wednesday and we're still
- 20:16Speaker 9: going through it. We're taking a look to see specifically
- 20:21Speaker 9: if the budget includes one time money from the federal
- 20:25Speaker 9: government for some of the Royal health initiatives we got
- 20:28Speaker 9: for some of the broadband and and whether whether it's
- 20:32Speaker 9: reliant on one time money or whether it's you know,
- 20:36Speaker 9: whether it's more reliant on a base income. And so
- 20:39Speaker 9: obviously the legislature is going to have its own priorities.
- 20:42Speaker 9: From the Senate side, you know again, I think our
- 20:44Speaker 9: priority is how do we improve economic prosperity for everyone
- 20:48Speaker 9: in West Virginia from a business climate perspective, and how
- 20:52Speaker 9: do we improve education? And our budget from the Senate
- 20:55Speaker 9: side is going to reflect those priorities in my opinion.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Talking to Tom Wells, who's this center, Now, let's transition
- 21:01Speaker 2: from the job that you have to the job that
- 21:03Speaker 2: you want to have. You're going to run. You're running
- 21:06Speaker 2: against us under Sheldy Moore Capital in the Republican primary.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Get into your background for those who may not know you,
- 21:12Speaker 2: because I know the show is based in Charleston, people
- 21:15Speaker 2: may not be that familiar with you, and they're going
- 21:17Speaker 2: to see your name on the ballot come primary election
- 21:20Speaker 2: a day or if they do early voting. So give
- 21:22Speaker 2: us the bio on Tom Willis.
- 21:25Speaker 9: Yeah, thanks, Stave. So, I live in Berkeley County. I'm
- 21:27Speaker 9: from the Eastern Panhandle. For folks that aren't familiar from
- 21:30Speaker 9: where I am coming from geographically, obviously, I'm living in
- 21:34Speaker 9: Charleston now during session. But my background is I'm a Greenberry.
- 21:39Speaker 9: I've been in the West Virginia National Guard for twenty
- 21:41Speaker 9: five years in counting. I'm still a member of the
- 21:44Speaker 9: West Virginia National Guard. I'm a West Virginia business owner.
- 21:47Speaker 9: I own a law firm. We have a litigation practice
- 21:52Speaker 9: with free offices, and i own a Tyler Mascrow company
- 21:56Speaker 9: as well. So I'm a West Virginia business owner. And
- 22:01Speaker 9: I'm a family man, Christian family man. I'm a conservative
- 22:05Speaker 9: constitutionalist and uh so that's that's my background, in addition
- 22:09Speaker 9: to you know, being State Senator and chairman of the
- 22:12Speaker 9: of the Judiciary Committee. So I think that I bring
- 22:16Speaker 9: a lot of different perspectives to the table. Obviously, I
- 22:19Speaker 9: have a you know, the I'm an attorney, so I
- 22:21Speaker 9: bring a legal perspective. I'm a Special Forces green Beretu,
- 22:25Speaker 9: so I've lived all over the seas. I've learned four
- 22:29Speaker 9: languages along the way. I've worked out of a lot
- 22:31Speaker 9: of embassies and and you know, we've chased down terrorists
- 22:35Speaker 9: and narco terrarist, drug runners, all sorts of things all
- 22:38Speaker 9: over the world. So I've got a very diverse background.
- 22:44Speaker 9: It really helps me plus the business experience to you know,
- 22:48Speaker 9: knowing how to read a profit loss statement and that
- 22:49Speaker 9: sort of thing, have the pressure of payroll. So I
- 22:52Speaker 9: think of whatever issue that we're dealing with, Dave, I
- 22:55Speaker 9: think I've got a really good background to deal with
- 22:58Speaker 9: and and and that's why I think that I'm most
- 23:00Speaker 9: qualified to serve in the US Senate.
- 23:02Speaker 2: So uh and by the way, thank you for your service.
- 23:04Speaker 2: By the way. So, so, why with all those things
- 23:08Speaker 2: that you have in your current seat in the state Senate,
- 23:11Speaker 2: and you mentioned all the things that that that you've
- 23:13Speaker 2: done and continue to do, why the run for US
- 23:16Speaker 2: Senate at this point in your life.
- 23:18Speaker 9: Well, we mail with a lot of state leaders, and
- 23:21Speaker 9: there's there's some real discontent in the Republican Party on
- 23:25Speaker 9: Shelley Moore Capito's performance and her votes. You know, she
- 23:29Speaker 9: she skipped the vote to keep boys out of girl
- 23:31Speaker 9: sports and uh and that bill failed and so we
- 23:35Speaker 9: had a chance at the federal level to pass the
- 23:37Speaker 9: law to keep boys out of girl sports, and and
- 23:39Speaker 9: she skipped the vote. So what would fail? West Virginia
- 23:41Speaker 9: voters are not happy with that. She voted for red
- 23:44Speaker 9: flag gun confiscation and uh. Uh. The Second Amendment is
- 23:49Speaker 9: a huge for me. I'll always defend it. West Virginia's
- 23:52Speaker 9: are really upset about that unconstitutional, in my opinion, red
- 23:57Speaker 9: flag gun grab law that she voted for. She's been
- 24:00Speaker 9: pro abortion pretty much her whole career. She flip flopped
- 24:03Speaker 9: conveniently for this election. She had a chance to vote
- 24:06Speaker 9: to defund defund Planned Parenthood. She she did not vote
- 24:11Speaker 9: to defund Planned Parenthood. And so you know, I call
- 24:16Speaker 9: her the Nancy Pelosi of the US Senate. And the
- 24:19Speaker 9: reason I do that is because the conservative voting agencies
- 24:23Speaker 9: like FreedomWorks ce Pack Heritage Action, they give chilleymore Capital
- 24:28Speaker 9: the same f rating for conservative voting record that they
- 24:32Speaker 9: give to Nancy Pelosi. And if you look at Chilleymore
- 24:35Speaker 9: Capito's insider trading record in the US Senate, she's rated
- 24:40Speaker 9: as one of the most prolific, uh single stock inside traders.
- 24:45Speaker 9: She's been trading in in companies you know, directly related
- 24:49Speaker 9: to some of the committees that she's been on or chaired,
- 24:52Speaker 9: and acquired a lot a lot of wealth that way.
- 24:55Speaker 2: It's a pretty serious allegation, sarm.
- 24:58Speaker 9: Well, it's uh, it's public record. It's not it's not
- 25:01Speaker 9: coming from Tom Willis. Look just google it. You know
- 25:04Speaker 9: who's who's top rated, uh, who's top rated for you know,
- 25:09Speaker 9: insider trading uh in the US Senate and and you'll
- 25:13Speaker 9: see the results. So so anyway, for those reasons, you know,
- 25:17Speaker 9: I think West Virginians are are are are just ready
- 25:21Speaker 9: for a change. And Shelley's been in the in the
- 25:24Speaker 9: US Congress for twenty five plus years. Most folks can't
- 25:29Speaker 9: list anything significant that she's done. And I think West
- 25:32Speaker 9: Virginians are just ready for a change, Dave.
- 25:34Speaker 2: And you're not the only person running in the primary
- 25:37Speaker 2: that is an addition to senator capital. Why do you
- 25:39Speaker 2: think a couple of different people are running to get
- 25:41Speaker 2: senator capital.
- 25:43Speaker 9: Yeah, that's a good question. You'll have to ask them, Dave.
- 25:45Speaker 9: I don't I don't think Yeah, I don't think any
- 25:48Speaker 9: of them are serious candidates. I don't think any of
- 25:49Speaker 9: them have any have, you know, resumes that would merit
- 25:53Speaker 9: the job. But you'll have to ask them why they're running.
- 25:56Speaker 9: I think that there's really this is a race between
- 25:58Speaker 9: you know, two people. It's it's race between me and Shelley.
- 26:02Speaker 9: And that's that's how that's how it's going to play
- 26:04Speaker 9: out in May.
- 26:05Speaker 2: You know Tom here, we're talking to State Senator Tom Willis,
- 26:08Speaker 2: who is a Republican out of the fifteenth who's running
- 26:11Speaker 2: for US senator as well. Anytime you have someone Tom
- 26:15Speaker 2: who has occupied a seat for a while, there'll always
- 26:17Speaker 2: be those that will say, and it doesn't matter regardless
- 26:21Speaker 2: of party, they'll say about someone who's been there for
- 26:24Speaker 2: a while that that it could be a step back
- 26:26Speaker 2: for a state to elect a newcomer, because again, in
- 26:29Speaker 2: some people's eyes, you could lose some stature in Washington
- 26:32Speaker 2: because Senator Capitol or whomever has been there for a
- 26:34Speaker 2: while and is one of the top ranking Republicans, certainly
- 26:38Speaker 2: in Washington. Do you see that as a as a hindrance,
- 26:42Speaker 2: do you?
- 26:42Speaker 9: Well, well, you know, when I was running against the
- 26:46Speaker 9: lieutenant governor who had defeated by twelve points, we heard
- 26:50Speaker 9: the same you know, we heard the same thing. You know,
- 26:53Speaker 9: we'll lose position and you'll have to start over from scratch.
- 26:59Speaker 9: But you know, one year later I was appointed as
- 27:02Speaker 9: chairman of the Judiciary Committee. And so I think that
- 27:05Speaker 9: really it didn't take me long to establish myself as
- 27:10Speaker 9: a leader down in Charleston. And I think that it
- 27:13Speaker 9: has a lot more to do with the leadership ability
- 27:16Speaker 9: that you bring to the table and the relationships that
- 27:18Speaker 9: you can build and the influence that you can build.
- 27:22Speaker 9: It has a lot more to do with that than
- 27:25Speaker 9: whether you're a freshman or whether you've been there for
- 27:27Speaker 9: thirty years. So we have. You know, they're senators in
- 27:30Speaker 9: the US Congress and the legislature in West Virginia that
- 27:33Speaker 9: have been there for a long time that wield very
- 27:35Speaker 9: little influence. But you know, I've got twenty five years
- 27:39Speaker 9: of leadership training in the military plus the business world,
- 27:42Speaker 9: and I love building relationships with my co legislators, and
- 27:47Speaker 9: I've proven it that I can come in and become
- 27:50Speaker 9: a leader very quickly. I've already done it in Charleston,
- 27:53Speaker 9: and I'll do it again in DC.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Well, you're certainly not a stranger to being the underdog
- 27:58Speaker 2: because you did it before. As you mentioned, you're in
- 28:00Speaker 2: your In your last race, you knocked off somebody that
- 28:02Speaker 2: have been there for quite some time. Do you have
- 28:03Speaker 2: a website or social media out there? Would you like
- 28:06Speaker 2: to provote for the people?
- 28:08Speaker 9: Sure? Yeah, thanks thanks for giving me that opportunity, Dave.
- 28:11Speaker 9: My name is Tom Willis and my website is very simple.
- 28:14Speaker 9: It's just Tom Willis dot com and you can you
- 28:17Speaker 9: can sign up to volunteer, you can sign up to donate.

- 28:23Speaker 9: It's Tom Willis dot com.
- 28:24Speaker 2: All right, before we let you go, I do this
- 28:25Speaker 2: with every candidate Tom that I have on the show.
- 28:28Speaker 2: I call it a final thirty not timed. Uh, why
- 28:31Speaker 2: should someone vote for Tom Willis for the US sentatem.
- 28:34Speaker 9: Well, we talked a little bit about why Shelley needs
- 28:37Speaker 9: to go and why it's the time for a change.
- 28:39Speaker 9: But let me tell you a little bit more about
- 28:40Speaker 9: what's important to me and why, you know, why I'm running,
- 28:43Speaker 9: what I want to accomplish in the US Senate. You know,
- 28:45Speaker 9: the top two most important things to me, I think
- 28:48Speaker 9: are we need to balance the budget. That's the number
- 28:50Speaker 9: one job for the US Congress. And I really would
- 28:53Speaker 9: like to see a balanced budget amendment. I'd like to
- 28:55Speaker 9: see term limits in place. We need to engage in
- 28:59Speaker 9: a long term strategy to counter China and China's influence.
- 29:03Speaker 9: We need to keep the border secure. And there's some
- 29:05Speaker 9: just givens that you're always going to get with Tom Willis.
- 29:08Speaker 9: You know what do I stand for what I vote for. Well,
- 29:11Speaker 9: I'm always going to protect our Second Amendment rights, our
- 29:14Speaker 9: religious freedoms, I'm going to protect life. I'm always going
- 29:17Speaker 9: to stand for limited government, low taxes, low regulations, personal accountability,
- 29:22Speaker 9: and free market capitalism, free enterprise that's going to build
- 29:26Speaker 9: up our middle class, provide prosperity for West Virginia families,
- 29:29Speaker 9: and put food on the table. So that's what Tom
- 29:31Speaker 9: Willis stands for. And I'm running against selleymore Capital. The
- 29:35Speaker 9: vote is in May May twelfth, the Republican primary, and
- 29:39Speaker 9: hope you'll vote for me again. More information at Tom
- 29:42Speaker 9: Willis dot com. I'm asking for your votes in May.

- 33:39Speaker 2: three five five zero zero eight. Let's welcome and now
- 33:42Speaker 2: Jeff Jenkins, Good morning, sir. I almost said a good afternoon.
- 33:45Speaker 2: I'm not used to having you in the morning show.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So good after good morning. Let's dit it again. How
- 33:50Speaker 2: you doing all right? I'm doing fine. We have got
- 33:52Speaker 2: a big time high school basketball game to get to
- 33:56Speaker 2: GW taking on capital. But before we get to that,
- 33:58Speaker 2: you've got some breaking news.
- 33:59Speaker 13: Yeah. So, the Hancock County School Systems has some financial
- 34:02Speaker 13: problems and really just kind of discovered them in a
- 34:06Speaker 13: big way in the last couple of months. They had
- 34:08Speaker 13: a chief financial officer who didn't do a very good job,
- 34:12Speaker 13: and the administration there didn't do a very good job
- 34:15Speaker 13: of checking up on what he was doing, and so
- 34:18Speaker 13: they fell behind and have had to do some shifting
- 34:22Speaker 13: to even make payroll in the last couple of months.
- 34:25Speaker 13: And they've asked for more than seven hundred thousand dollars
- 34:28Speaker 13: to meet February's payroll. And so this is of concern
- 34:33Speaker 13: to the State Board of Education. The State Board of
- 34:36Speaker 13: Education convened a special meeting earlier this hour and they
- 34:41Speaker 13: voted to declare a state of emergency in the Hancock
- 34:44Speaker 13: County School System. They took the system over. They fired
- 34:47Speaker 13: the superintendent today he's off the job. At the end
- 34:51Speaker 13: of the day, the assistant superintendent. They appointed a new superintendent.
- 34:55Speaker 13: And this meeting started noticle they did. They did all that,
- 34:59Speaker 13: and they did and they they they said, don't worry
- 35:04Speaker 13: employees of the Hancock County School System, you will be
- 35:07Speaker 13: paid all right. So this is what State Board of
- 35:12Speaker 13: Education President Paul Hardesty set so that one of the
- 35:16Speaker 13: main problems is Hancock County is way above the funding
- 35:20Speaker 13: formulam when it comes to employees more than one hundred
- 35:24Speaker 13: employees above. I mean they're students. Number of students don't
- 35:26Speaker 13: match how many employees they have. They got way too
- 35:28Speaker 13: many employees, a lot of these funded by the federal
- 35:32Speaker 13: COVID money, and then they never did anything after that.
- 35:35Speaker 13: It doesn't appear. So here's what Paul Hardesty said about that.
- 35:38Speaker 6: You're one hundred and forty people over today. You all
- 35:40Speaker 6: have escalated and grew your your average by significant amounts.
- 35:47Speaker 6: There's been nothing done with regards to riffs and transfers
- 35:52Speaker 6: in Hancock County.
- 35:53Speaker 13: All right, one hundred and forty, one hundred and forty
- 35:56Speaker 13: employees over the formula. So that will give you a
- 36:00Speaker 13: financial problem, right, Yeah, And so the state state Department
- 36:05Speaker 13: of Education voted to take them over. And uh, and
- 36:09Speaker 13: then you know, I first, I don't know how these
- 36:12Speaker 13: things work out. I mean, now they're in control of
- 36:14Speaker 13: several counties. It would seem that if you get a
- 36:17Speaker 13: new superintendent in there, and then if they work through
- 36:19Speaker 13: these things and make some cuts, you know, they're gonna
- 36:22Speaker 13: have to be a lot of positions rift uh. And uh,
- 36:25Speaker 13: you know, maybe maybe it can be turned over back
- 36:27Speaker 13: in local control, and you know, several months down the road,
- 36:30Speaker 13: we'll see. But the news is that they voted to
- 36:32Speaker 13: take that system over because of the financial issue. So
- 36:35Speaker 13: we'll have a story coming up at wv metronews dot
- 36:38Speaker 13: com and just a little bit now high school basketball school.
- 36:41Speaker 2: By the way, I do want to be so to
- 36:42Speaker 2: the center. I understand that they were efforting. Paul Hardest
- 36:45Speaker 2: seem to be on talkline today. I think he is
- 36:48Speaker 2: going to be on talk line today. Yeah, he'll talk more.
- 36:50Speaker 2: He'll talk about now. Now let's get the high school basketball.
- 36:52Speaker 2: It'll still be a great one.
- 36:53Speaker 13: To Yeah, big game, you know, Capital GW is always
- 36:56Speaker 13: a good game because it's a city rivalry, your two
- 36:59Speaker 13: high schools and in the city of Charleston, and so
- 37:05Speaker 13: this year particularly, both teams, you know, are having really
- 37:09Speaker 13: good years. Capital is nine to two, they're in Class
- 37:13Speaker 13: Triple A now and they're the top ranked team in
- 37:15Speaker 13: Class Triple A under second year head coach former Capital
- 37:20Speaker 13: star Cookie Miller. And then GW is doing what GW does.
- 37:24Speaker 13: They're having a great year. They are undefeated. Noah Lewis
- 37:31Speaker 13: is leading the way for coach Rick Green, and Noah
- 37:33Speaker 13: Lewis is having a Player of the Year type year.
- 37:36Speaker 13: He's averaging I think more than thirty points a game,
- 37:39Speaker 13: double digits and rebounds. He's on his way to Wright State,
- 37:42Speaker 13: and so they play each other tonight. So Quad A
- 37:45Speaker 13: number one team George Washington hosting Triple A number one
- 37:48Speaker 13: team Capital, and that game is up at GW tonight.
- 37:51Speaker 13: I know people are you know. I think there's been
- 37:54Speaker 13: se messages on Facebook about you know, the tickets and
- 37:58Speaker 13: all those things, and I'm sure the crowd will start
- 38:01Speaker 13: building even during the JV game, maybe maybe before the
- 38:03Speaker 13: JV game.
- 38:05Speaker 2: If you're going to Spot, I've got.
- 38:07Speaker 13: My spot secured. Got my spot secured. U. But yeah,
- 38:11Speaker 13: we'll have that game tonight. That will be that'll be,
- 38:14Speaker 13: that'll be a good game. That'll be a good game,
- 38:16Speaker 13: and it'll be it'll be a lot of emotion, a
- 38:18Speaker 13: lot of excitement.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Uh.
- 38:20Speaker 13: There is a player on the Capitol team who's a
- 38:22Speaker 13: former GW player, DJ Spencer, who's one of the Capitol
- 38:25Speaker 13: starters and uh and so these players know each other
- 38:28Speaker 13: well and all those things. So that'll be that'll be
- 38:30Speaker 13: a good game tonight, and you know it's good to see. Uh.
- 38:33Speaker 13: So we'll have that game tonight over on ninety six
- 38:35Speaker 13: to one k WS. It'll be Hoover taking on Nitro
- 38:39Speaker 13: up at Hoover. Tom Bragg will have that call tonight
- 38:42Speaker 13: and then tomorrow night. I'll be the third high school
- 38:45Speaker 13: in Charleston's Charleston Catholic, and they will host POKA tomorrow
- 38:48Speaker 13: night at seven o'clock. And I think tomorrow night they're
- 38:51Speaker 13: they're naming the court after a long time now former
- 38:55Speaker 13: Charleston Catholic principal Deborah Sullivan. They're naming their they're naming
- 38:59Speaker 13: the court after her Tomorrow night up at the Catholic
- 39:02Speaker 13: Athletic Contacts.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Yeah, good stuff there, and we'll have coverage. As Jeff
- 39:05Speaker 2: said of the GW Capitol game, that I have an
- 39:07Speaker 2: abbreviated sports line.
- 39:08Speaker 13: Yeah, we'll come on, Well, I come on. It just
- 39:10Speaker 13: depends where the JV game is and.
- 39:13Speaker 2: How many people trying are in line trying to get
- 39:14Speaker 2: in these games.
- 39:15Speaker 13: They slate them. They schedule them to start at seven.
- 39:18Speaker 6: Now.
- 39:19Speaker 13: They used to high school basketballers used to start seven thirty.
- 39:21Speaker 13: Then they moved it up to seven, and it's hard,
- 39:23Speaker 13: quite honestly, to get games started at seven. Sometimes they
- 39:26Speaker 13: end up around ten after something like that. So we
- 39:29Speaker 13: try to take as much sports sports line as we
- 39:31Speaker 13: can and then get in both coaches interviews. So I've
- 39:33Speaker 13: planned to have both coach Green and coach Miller in
- 39:36Speaker 13: the pregame. Uh, and then we'll play those interviews. But
- 39:40Speaker 13: sometimes it's maybe ten toll seven, five to seven. It
- 39:42Speaker 13: just kind of depends. It floats a little bit. But
- 39:44Speaker 13: tune in right right before seven. Well, you'll be listening
- 39:47Speaker 13: to sports Line anyway, So just listen to sports Line
- 39:49Speaker 13: and then uh, and then we'll come on and we'll
- 39:51Speaker 13: do the game and it'll tip probably round seven or
- 39:53Speaker 13: shortly after.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Great good luck on the call. Then, I Jeff's going
- 39:56Speaker 2: to be a fantastic game. Can imagine what that atmosphere
- 39:58Speaker 2: is going to be like, Oh, it'll be good. Absolutely
- 40:00Speaker 2: everything high school basketball and West Virginia is supposed to

- 46:50Speaker 2: that's held that officer's always. And I thought it was
- 46:52Speaker 2: a fair question, and he answered it, and he answered
- 46:54Speaker 2: it to and I appreciate that it's always a fair
- 46:58Speaker 2: question to ask, well, if you in effect start all
- 47:01Speaker 2: over again by putting someone new in there, whether it's
- 47:06Speaker 2: mister Willis or whether it's somebody running on the Democrat
- 47:09Speaker 2: side or whatever, it doesn't really matter, or Alexander Gosserude
- 47:13Speaker 2: is somebody else that's running for it doesn't matter. The
- 47:16Speaker 2: question I was asking was people, political experts or whatever,
- 47:21Speaker 2: or voters will say, well, you know, Shelley Moore capital
- 47:23Speaker 2: fourth ranking Republican in d C right now, is it's
- 47:26Speaker 2: such a good idea that we change at this point
- 47:28Speaker 2: and we start all over again. And I think it's
- 47:30Speaker 2: a fair question. And to Tom Willis's credit, Senator Tom Willis,
- 47:33Speaker 2: he answered the question why he felt that it was
- 47:36Speaker 2: necessary to change. So I appreciate I appreciate that, Hey,

- 49:09Speaker 2: put this on will join us next week a couple
- 49:12Speaker 2: of times on the show to talk about it, and
- 49:14Speaker 2: some of our stations are going to be doing ticket
- 49:15Speaker 2: giveaways as well, So be listening to your favorite WVRC
- 49:18Speaker 2: Media radio station, WVRC Media, Charleston. You make very well
- 49:22Speaker 2: when you sell some tickets to the Annual Hunting and
- 49:24Speaker 2: Fishing Show at the Connleseauman Convention Center next Friday Saturday,
- 49:27Speaker 2: and Sunday. So you know, everybody, take a look at
- 49:30Speaker 2: the legislature right now, and we'll close with this, just
- 49:33Speaker 2: a few moments left in the show. I'm kind of
- 49:36Speaker 2: interested to see what comes out over the next couple
- 49:40Speaker 2: of months. Sixty day session and Wednesday, of course, was
- 49:44Speaker 2: opening day, and that's pretty much ceremonial. The governor gave
- 49:48Speaker 2: the state of the Space, state of the State speech
- 49:49Speaker 2: Wednesday night, then they got down to business yesterday. There'll
- 49:52Speaker 2: be things going on today, but if you've ever been
- 49:55Speaker 2: around the capitol, Fridays kind of a getaway day. So
- 49:57Speaker 2: I don't know how much will actually get done today.
- 49:59Speaker 2: There's some UH Finance Committee meetings I think held earlier
- 50:02Speaker 2: this morning. There'll be a few things throughout the day
- 50:04Speaker 2: to day. But I'm kind of interested from this point
- 50:06Speaker 2: on what we are going to see out of the legislature.
- 50:09Speaker 15: Now.
- 50:09Speaker 2: You always see those those outrageous bills that that get
- 50:14Speaker 2: to grab all the headlines, and those of us in
- 50:17Speaker 2: and you know, I love this word, those of us
- 50:19Speaker 2: in the media, UH take a little crap from time
- 50:22Speaker 2: to time because they say that we focus too much
- 50:25Speaker 2: on these these I don't wanna say outlandish because they're
- 50:28Speaker 2: important to somebody, But these bills that are the shiny objects,
- 50:31Speaker 2: and so on and so forth. But I mean, that's
- 50:33Speaker 2: what that's what a lot of people talk about. I mean,
- 50:36Speaker 2: there is a big move on probably and I'm and
- 50:40Speaker 2: I'm gonna say, and I'm not judging in any way.
- 50:43Speaker 2: I'm just saying it's not gonna happen. But there seems
- 50:46Speaker 2: to be a bigger move this year than in years
- 50:49Speaker 2: past that I've seen for recreational cannabis. And to say
- 50:52Speaker 2: of West Virginia and those that are for it, will
- 50:54Speaker 2: it to out the economic impacts that cannabis can have,
- 50:57Speaker 2: uh in West Virginia those against it? You know the
- 51:00Speaker 2: old argument gateway drug, we don't need this, so on
- 51:03Speaker 2: and so forth. I don't have an opinion either way.
- 51:05Speaker 2: But it's not going to happen regardless, not not with
- 51:08Speaker 2: the super majority of Republicans. It's simply it's simply not
- 51:11Speaker 2: going to happen. Another issue it's going to be discussed
- 51:14Speaker 2: a lot, I think is data centers. And I have
- 51:17Speaker 2: made my opinions on data centers known. I'm one hundred
- 51:20Speaker 2: percent for them. If you want one, put one in
- 51:22Speaker 2: my backyard, I'll move if it's going, if it's going
- 51:25Speaker 2: to if it's going to create jobs, is going to
- 51:27Speaker 2: spur the ecadomy have that. A matter of fact, there's
- 51:29Speaker 2: already data centers here. There's a big one in South
- 51:31Speaker 2: Charleston that you may not even known about. So because
- 51:34Speaker 2: it didn't make all the headlines. DJ Meadow is always
- 51:36Speaker 2: making headlines.
- 51:37Speaker 3: How you doing that?
- 51:38Speaker 2: I'm good, buddy. How are you welcome back from the capital.
- 51:41Speaker 2: You guys are not there today? Will be back over
- 51:43Speaker 2: there next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Yeah, live at the
- 51:45Speaker 2: coump Let. It's gonna be back in the studio. We
- 51:47Speaker 2: have such a nice place. It's good to be here. Yeah,
- 51:48Speaker 2: all right, what you get on the show today?
- 51:50Speaker 17: We're going to talk to Paul Hardesty right out of
- 51:51Speaker 17: gate this thing in Hancott County. I have to tell you,
- 51:54Speaker 17: I don't know that I could name a bigger instance
- 51:57Speaker 17: of gross financial mismanagement than what they have.
- 52:00Speaker 2: I don't know whether you heard Jeff Jenkins on he
- 52:02Speaker 2: just broke the story. Later on we played some audio
- 52:04Speaker 2: from Paul Hardesty a little bit earlier in the show.
- 52:06Speaker 2: I mean, what over one hundred different over positions, hundred
- 52:10Speaker 2: positions over books are a mess.
- 52:12Speaker 17: I mean, if you look up disaster in the dictionary,
- 52:15Speaker 17: you may very well find a reference to Hancock County Square.
- 52:18Speaker 2: You guys will talk about that on the show. I'll
- 52:20Speaker 2: be back later today with Metro News, Midday with thirteen
- 52:22Speaker 2: News and Tonight Live anchor Amanda Barrett, my producer Ryan Nicholson.
- 52:26Speaker 2: Thank you so much. We'll see you later today. Have
- 52:28Speaker 2: yourself a great weekend. Until then, have fun and love somebodys.
