Transcript
- 0:00Welcome back to another episode of the Faction After Hours
- 0:02podcast. This is episode 104 from our
- 0:06final bout trip this year. This was on the way to Chicago.
- 0:11So this was day one of our trip and we had the pleasure of
- 0:16sitting down with Derek King and Derek Byansky from Team Breaking
- 0:22located in Fort Worth, Indiana. So this was, this is a pretty
- 0:26big deal for me. So Derek was the first person I
- 0:29actually contacted when I knew we were going out to final bout.
- 0:32I've always wanted to sit down with these guys and have a chat
- 0:35about low car style and you know, team drifting and all that
- 0:40stuff. And these guys honestly couldn't
- 0:44have given us a better time. They invited us over to Derek
- 0:46King's. I guess we call it a shop
- 0:49because it's it's his house but he's got a full shop in the
- 0:52backyard and he has a shit ton of cars there and they're all
- 0:56pretty awesome. So it was it was a really good
- 0:59time. They cooked food for us on the
- 1:01grill. Yeah, we we had a blast on this.
- 1:04This is this is one of my favorite podcasts we have ever
- 1:07done period. I would say top five.
- 1:10So I hope you guys enjoy it and let us know what you thought.
- 1:15And lastly, thank you again, Derek and Derek from team
- 1:18breaking. I can't thank you guys enough.
- 1:21This was a pretty important episode for me.
- 1:23I've always wanted to talk to you guys and you know it.
- 1:27You guys lived up to my expectations.
- 1:28So I appreciate it. I hope we can all drift together
- 1:31someday soon. This podcast is sponsored by
- 1:34East Coast Drift School. East Coast Drift School, which
- 1:37is located in Englishtown, NJ, is a driving school that offers
- 1:40a more private and intimate environment for learning how to
- 1:43drift. Whether you're someone who has
- 1:45countless drift events under your belt or someone who has yet
- 1:48to kick a clutch, East Coast Drift School is a great place to
- 1:51pick up some seat time and improve your drifting abilities.
- 1:54Be sure to follow East Coast Drift School on Instagram and
- 1:56look out for the schedule which is released on the 16th of every
- 1:59month. Also, feel free to message them
- 2:02directly for pricing and availability.
- 2:04You can find them on Instagram at East Coast Drift School.
- 2:08This podcast is also sponsored by Automotive Specialty Wraps.
- 2:11Automotive Specialty Wraps is a company specializing in paint
- 2:14protection, film, vehicle wraps, ceramic coatings, and window
- 2:17tinting. Located in Fairlawn, New Jersey.
- 2:20Owned and operated by car enthusiasts and Drifters, their
- 2:23technicians have over 10 years of experience in the industry.
- 2:26The ceramic coating is what really caught my attention when
- 2:29they reached out to us. This coating basically gives
- 2:31your cars paint extra UV protection while also making it
- 2:34shine. Wax only lasts for a couple
- 2:36weeks at most, but ceramic coating lasts for a year or
- 2:39longer. They perform a full two stage
- 2:42Polish to the car beforehand to make sure the vehicle is in
- 2:45perfect condition before applying the coating.
- 2:47As mentioned, they also offer window tinting and paint
- 2:50protection film installations. Now everyone knows what window
- 2:54tinting is, but these guys offer carbon or ceramic tinting
- 2:57depending on your goals with the vehicle.
- 3:00Paint Protection film or PPF is a great idea for those new
- 3:03vehicle owners that don't want to get stuck on an 18 Wheeler on
- 3:06the way home one night and then get out and realize your front
- 3:09end is littered with rock chips. I'm looking at you super owners.
- 3:12Paint sucks so make sure you protect it fast before you
- 3:15regret it and need a new paint job.
- 3:18Also keep in mind they are capable of getting liveries
- 3:20designed and installed as well as full vehicle wraps.
- 3:24From protecting your toe rigs exterior to full livery
- 3:27installations on your drift car, they have you covered.
- 3:30You can contact them at automotive specialtywraps.com
- 3:34and make sure to give them a follow on Instagram at
- 3:36Automotive Specialty Wraps. All right, we're good.
- 3:45That's it. OK, Well, welcome everybody.
- 3:48The Faction After Hours Podcast. We're here with Team Breaking
- 3:51Derek and Derek the DND Show. The DND show, Yeah, but we drove
- 3:56all the way to Indiana. We're in Indiana, right?
- 3:58Yeah, we're in Indiana. OK.
- 4:00Yes, for a little while. We were in Pennsylvania for like
- 4:029 years. Yep.
- 4:03And it was horrible. Ohio is not much better.
- 4:06I was fucking don't like Ohio at.
- 4:07All, but it's long. And we had a Chickfila sandwich.
- 4:10We had a Chickfila experience where it was the cleanest
- 4:12fucking Chickfila ever. Yeah, it was weird.
- 4:14And everyone was so nice. Yeah, it was like, really
- 4:17different. Than you.
- 4:17I don't know if that's just because of the tri-state thing,
- 4:19but I don't know. We're sitting in your shop and
- 4:22it's absolutely beautiful and you got a bunch of cool shit in
- 4:24here. But today we're going to time to
- 4:25talk about like kind of how you are in this situation you are in
- 4:30now. We already kind of covered a lot
- 4:32of stuff. Off camera.
- 4:33Yeah, off camera was kind of how you.
- 4:34You and Frankie don't actually know each other.
- 4:37Yeah, Derek thought I was someone else for like 10 years.
- 4:40But yeah, yeah, just learned that and then now we're here.
- 4:43But unfortunately we can't figure it out who it is.
- 4:45So if you had a red S13 hatch with a pig nose lip with a Sr.
- 4:50like Hot Wheels wheels back in like 09 and.
- 4:53Let me stay at their dorm on campus or house or whatever
- 4:57Rutgers. I think Rutgers.
- 4:58Yeah, far from E Town during D1USA.
- 5:01Yeah, please hit us up because we're trying to figure out who
- 5:04he thought I was. Because I did not stay with
- 5:06Frankie. Frankie just graduated high
- 5:10school. Yeah, literally 09.
- 5:11Graduated high school. Just a freshman partying it up
- 5:14and maybe that's what it was. It wasn't me, dude.
- 5:18He still thinks it is. We had so many good fucking
- 5:21conversations off camera, but like, we're just gonna keep
- 5:23them. Going, I'm telling you, I think
- 5:24it's just, I think it's, well, it's easy for me because again,
- 5:27I said I kind of just, I just met you guys.
- 5:29Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:30And first of all, we pulled up here actually prior to pulling
- 5:33up here. I just got in the truck and I'm
- 5:34like, Frankie, where we going? So yeah, now we're here,
- 5:38arranged all these podcasts. And then like, I tell him like a
- 5:40week before and he's like, I'm just getting in the truck and
- 5:43we're just doing whatever we're doing.
- 5:44I'm like, all right, I'm like, first stop breaking.
- 5:46He's like, Oh yeah, who are those guys?
- 5:47I was like, this is how I know you're not like, you're like,
- 5:50you're still kind of fresh to drift.
- 5:51I am. Quite, quite fresh.
- 5:53Yeah. I'm like, because he doesn't
- 5:54really know you guys that well. So I was like, OK, so there's
- 5:56the age gap. That's good.
- 5:58It's still you guys are you guys are even like older than me by a
- 6:02bit. So you guys are like the first
- 6:04wave, I would consider like the first or second wave of drifting
- 6:06in the US, probably second. Well, no one would get excited.
- 6:10To talk to us. That's if they're our age.
- 6:12Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 6:14Why? Because because it's like old
- 6:16now to you. Or like you're just like.
- 6:18We're just burned out losers now.
- 6:22It's just the hummies at that point.
- 6:23It's just like, yo, you're still doing this too?
- 6:25All right, cool. No, I think that that's sick.
- 6:27And I even asked you just now if if you still skate because like,
- 6:30yeah, yeah, there is a little bit of an age gap, but that
- 6:33doesn't mean like, honestly, we've just been kicking it.
- 6:35I If you didn't ask, if Frankie didn't ask you guys, how old you
- 6:38were? Probably wouldn't have fucking
- 6:40asked. How old do you think I am?
- 6:41Well, how old would you think I was?
- 6:44I thought you're maybe mid 30s, like 35.
- 6:47I was hoping younger than that. Well, it's the.
- 6:49It's the way. You carry yourself, dude.
- 6:51And like, like, I'm over here geeking at your shop and you're
- 6:55like, yeah, you know, I just run out of time now and I'm like, I
- 6:59gotta get rid of some of these fucking cars.
- 7:01Yeah, no, but it's just like. You could tell when somebody.
- 7:03Seen some shit? You know what I mean?
- 7:06Like he seems weather to you. Not weather.
- 7:09Not weather. Look man, a smooth.
- 7:11What do I always say? A smooth sea.
- 7:13Never made a skilled sailor, yeah, yeah.
- 7:15Suck a Dick. Like, but like I talk about, I
- 7:19talk about. I've done it before, like the
- 7:20waves of Drifters. I remember when we're talking to
- 7:23Damian and I was like, yeah, I was like Damian, you're kind of
- 7:26like part of that first wave of. I was.
- 7:28Coming, Bagley. Yeah.
- 7:29Nice. Wait, am I?
- 7:31No. No Damian from karoshi team.
- 7:34Karoshi. Car Shop karoshi he wasn't.
- 7:37White and yellow cars. Yeah, OK there.
- 7:39It's a new team, but he's been in the scene for like.
- 7:42Yeah, like sick liver is. A while, OK.
- 7:44And very like and the way that they execute everything.
- 7:46I feel like my favorite thing about it is like a lot of it is
- 7:49still old type, like the vinyl is still layered like.
- 7:54It's a IS Dash and an 86. I love Damien.
- 7:56Shit man. He makes cool stuff.
- 7:58Very creative guy. Yeah, but.
- 7:59Like, Damien, I could butcher a project like that, it sounds
- 8:02like, yeah, I don't know. It's just like I consider that
- 8:07like kind of the first wave and then my you guys would be the
- 8:10first wave too, in my eyes. But you're I feel like you're
- 8:13you guys had first wave for sure pretty much anything that you
- 8:16were just talking. About 09, dude.
- 8:18Yeah. If you were drifting before
- 8:192010, then I'm like that's kind of like the first wave and the
- 8:222nd wave is probably like probably that next decade kind
- 8:27of you could split it up, but then.
- 8:28Decade. Like because you came in like
- 8:3116? I came in around 1415 and you
- 8:34guys seem to have like a little bit of a different.
- 8:36We looked up to people like you guys.
- 8:39Yeah, Derek and Derek. Yeah, and you.
- 8:42Yeah, to me, I thought you were older.
- 8:44I always thought Frankie was older.
- 8:45I think it's just because of his mannerisms and his ability to
- 8:48grasp technology. But but you set this whole thing
- 8:50up and I yeah. What the fuck?
- 8:52I said this. Whole thing.
- 8:53I wasn't going to say a fucking word until you did it, because I
- 8:57knew you would have thought about it a little bit more.
- 8:58And yeah, you were panicked and he's here, but.
- 9:02But I don't know. Yeah, so you got well, dude, I
- 9:04looked up to you guys as well. So I mean, and me being the 2nd
- 9:08wave in my head, that kind of makes sense because it's like
- 9:10I'm looking at these guys. I'm looking at back then.
- 9:12Risky Devil. Yeah.
- 9:13So I feel like, I feel like we would be second wave, that's,
- 9:17yeah. Because like.
- 9:18OK, that's. Interesting.
- 9:19Like, I don't like, I think final bout harvested like the
- 9:22third wave and maybe even like the current wave.
- 9:24Of final bout one. You're you're saying like the
- 9:26first. General Yeah, because you know
- 9:28there weren't a lot of teams in the US back then.
- 9:31And like I I think first wave would be more like grip gamblers
- 9:34and Risky Devil for sure. You know Pink Pink got zero out
- 9:39West. Yeah, like those guys.
- 9:41And then? Yeah, you know, Drift Alliance,
- 9:43yeah, Drift Alliance that type of error, okay.
- 9:45So you guys feel like you were a little bit after that.
- 9:47Yeah, for. Sure, because.
- 9:48We were. We had people to look up to when
- 9:52we were getting into it that were already in the states doing
- 9:54it okay. So it was like, okay.
- 9:56There are people here. It's actually like something
- 9:59that we can do. It's not just something like in
- 10:01a different country that's like, oh, that's neat, but like I
- 10:03can't. It's not approachable.
- 10:05So seeing like other people in the states do it, it's like
- 10:07okay, somebody figured this out and that's.
- 10:10So that's who he was for me, like DK was the person that I
- 10:13was like, OK, this dude drifts. How do I go about this now?
- 10:17And when we became friends, he like.
- 10:19Did you just call him DK? I'm so sorry.
- 10:21Yeah, Derek Kings. I'm going to call you that now
- 10:22too, because now I feel I'm like Derek and then Derek and then
- 10:26Derek. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:27But can I call you DK? That's fine.
- 10:29I mean, we've. Been, but it's on the stands for
- 10:31we've. Been friends now since a long
- 10:34time and like everyone, kind of. Distinguishes me as DK and him
- 10:38as Derek cuz otherwise it's a nightmare if we're in the same.
- 10:40That's exactly why. Because our podcast, which
- 10:43Derek, is this guy fucking talking to?
- 10:45When did you guys? Meet That's what I was about to
- 10:47ask, because if he inspired you and that was a time when social
- 10:50media wasn't. Maybe.
- 10:52Fucking Thing. 1007 or 8? Yeah, probably 8.
- 10:55Like he was around cars around here and.
- 11:01I knew of him, I think because of that, because we had mutual
- 11:04street race friends back. Yeah, yeah, that was the big
- 11:07thing at the time was just all street racing and Hwy. pole
- 11:10stuff. So shit, the idea that someone
- 11:13was doing track things to me was very, very appealing because at
- 11:16that time it was just like. We'd go to drag strips or it was
- 11:20mostly St. stuff, but we would drive a couple hours or
- 11:22whatever, go to a drag strip and then it was like, that was fun.
- 11:25But like, I always enjoyed, like the aspect of driving, like
- 11:28driving, driving. So, like, when I met him, I was
- 11:31like, all right. This dude is doing things he's
- 11:34already. Treated like this dude's an
- 11:35idiot. He can pull this off.
- 11:38He's like, no, I can make this. Guy use this guy.
- 11:41It's my bad influence. No.
- 11:43For like example, the first time I met him we were just like out
- 11:46street racing with a bunch of people.
- 11:47It was like on the weekend or whatever.
- 11:49And he pulled up and we were all getting ready to head to a spot
- 11:53and I think he had like a. A bug eye at the time, Yeah,
- 11:56yeah. And he was just like, he was
- 11:57just down to race. Like it didn't matter.
- 11:59He had like golf clubs in the trunk, like he just like came
- 12:03back from, I think. Like I was on the road, Chicago,
- 12:05I had a spare door in the back. Yeah.
- 12:09So like, I ended up like meeting him that night and then like
- 12:12found out later that he was someone that slid and I was
- 12:15like, yeah, that sounds really appealing, Like.
- 12:18And then like we got like each other's numbers or whatever.
- 12:21And I was like, all right, I already have an S13 like I'm
- 12:24interested in. This I was about to ask, did you
- 12:25already have a drift car at this point?
- 12:27Cuz you said the bug guy. You didn't have that yet, no.
- 12:30OK, so I had a front wheel drive like Volkswagen at the time and
- 12:34then he was already doing it and I was already like in the
- 12:37process of switching over cuz it sounded cool, but I didn't know
- 12:41anybody that did it. So I was like OK.
- 12:43I just bought this S13 and he does this so I'm gonna piggy
- 12:47back onto that. He was just like, do it.
- 12:49Yeah, well, no, this is literally the story of that.
- 12:52It was just like a thing that was like, hey, be here this
- 12:56weekend. We're going to Dayton.
- 12:57Like, you need to go. And I was just like, all right,
- 13:00cool. Like, all right.
- 13:03And then? And what was in Dayton like?
- 13:05Drifting. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:06Okay. So drift nd.
- 13:09That could have been like a street life tour.
- 13:11Even back then, I'm not sure. I think it was just a regular
- 13:14like drift day because I was so nervous.
- 13:15Most of our drift indie events back then were in Indianapolis,
- 13:19actually. Yeah.
- 13:19Oh really? OK, that's.
- 13:21Yeah, that's where Drift Indie started.
- 13:22OK, cool. So did you guys.
- 13:24Are you guys the founders? No.
- 13:26No, you're not. OK.
- 13:27No, just homies. Yeah.
- 13:28OK, we were. I was there from the beginning,
- 13:31essentially. But I'm not a founder or drift
- 13:33indie. Who?
- 13:34Who started that? Edgar, TR, and John.
- 13:37They're all Edgar. Sounds familiar?
- 13:39Yeah. Sermiento TR Shrivner and John
- 13:43Gilead. OK.
- 13:44Yeah. All right.
- 13:45Yeah. So those guys had already been
- 13:46driving by the time, like I got into it.
- 13:48So I was like, there's already a thing that's built up and I was
- 13:51like, this exists. It was very small at the time,
- 13:53but like people were doing it, I couldn't imagine.
- 13:56I was about to ask like what that event was probably like.
- 13:58Like you're showing up how many car like I feel you go to a
- 14:01drift event now shit's packed. Yes, I mean it was.
- 14:04The first event was 06 and I don't, you know, I don't
- 14:09remember how many cars were there, but I would say 30.
- 14:12Yeah, I think there was probably 30, you know, mainly two 40s
- 14:15back then. Yeah, Stock body 2. 40 and I I
- 14:18didn't know a single person because he wasn't coming along
- 14:21yet, so we didn't know each other.
- 14:22So I was just packing up my own car.
- 14:24I had met some guys on Arc 7 Club.
- 14:28The forum in high school, Yeah. The forum in high school and.
- 14:33We used to go do auto crosses together we because there used
- 14:36to be a thing called Rotary revolution and it's kind of like
- 14:40I think 7 stock is the thing now maybe, yeah.
- 14:42Still, I think. So, so there's a thing called
- 14:44Rotary revolution in Indianapolis.
- 14:46It was a big, huge event and I met those guys through that.
- 14:52And then we were all the same age, and then we became friends
- 14:56from that in the forum. And then they'd come up here and
- 14:58we'd go to Auto Crosses and drift and then.
- 15:02That turned into drift indie being a thing.
- 15:04And then that's like, you know, I went down there and knew guys
- 15:07from essentially RX7 community. Yeah.
- 15:11So you were into the RX7 shift like early?
- 15:14Yeah, when I was like 15 is when.
- 15:15Yeah, like those. Yeah, like going to high.
- 15:17School discovery. Wait, wait, wait.
- 15:18What? What?
- 15:19How old? How old do you get your license?
- 15:21Here 16. That that jumpstarts you pretty
- 15:25fucking early in the Seattle can.
- 15:27Yeah, cuz what are we 17? Where it's it's 17, but then you
- 15:31have a lot of restrictions and I feel like I don't know, most 17
- 15:34year old kids nowadays aren't, you know, fucking going in
- 15:37there. Like a slammed FC.
- 15:39Like, see, like I knew his car before I knew him.
- 15:42I I knew like he this dude that had like a slammed FC and that
- 15:45he slid it and that's like all that I knew.
- 15:47I knew he was gone, a lot like out of town.
- 15:50Like that's all it was. You knew he was like, I was just
- 15:52traveling. I mean back then there was
- 15:54Facebook was a thing, but like, there's no groups.
- 15:57You had like 4 friends, even if you were cool.
- 15:59Myspace just ended. Yeah, Myspace was over.
- 16:02Like fading out. Literally you'd find out about
- 16:05events from Flyers like as if it was a punk rock show I.
- 16:07Was really about to ask like, what's your source?
- 16:10Of and also for there'd be like blogs.
- 16:12Yeah, forums, blogs and forums, but like there was blogs and
- 16:15you'd like. Start following or favoring A
- 16:18blog page because then they might be like, oh here's an
- 16:21event coming up and then you know there wasn't pre Reg.
- 16:24I don't even think like hardly. You just show up.
- 16:27Show up. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 16:29That is that's an era that I feel like, yeah that's it would
- 16:33it would weed out the people that are like yeah this isn't
- 16:35really for me because yeah I feel like it took a little bit
- 16:37more effort to like get even just remotely get or find out
- 16:40about the see that's why. But that's this is another
- 16:42reason why to me it's like that's the first wave Drifters
- 16:45because like I never experienced that.
- 16:47Like, I mean I can like relate to the like having no drivers at
- 16:52the events. Like yeah, yeah, I can
- 16:54definitely relate to that and I fucking miss that a lot.
- 16:56But I mean, it's a nice that Drifting got.
- 16:58So big It's growing. Yeah, but like, dude, finding
- 17:01events from Flyers is wild. Yeah.
- 17:04And like I was, you know, traveling because, yeah, you
- 17:08know, I didn't know much. So I was like, well, I want to
- 17:12go compete. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Win a couple
- 17:14bucks, you know. And so, like, you know, even the
- 17:16organizers back then, like most guys, a lot of organizers were
- 17:21they came from something else, like, and that was still kind of
- 17:24their background, more so than drifting.
- 17:25But they were like, I like the cars sliding around.
- 17:27I'll host a drift event, but like a lot of them weren't drift
- 17:31people. They were just guys essentially
- 17:33supplying a place to go. Yeah, just like Motorsports
- 17:35people in general, like they're just down.
- 17:37There was. I have a buddy of mine who
- 17:39showed me pictures from like early.
- 17:42Early early track day in California for like 240SX club
- 17:46or something like that or or I forget what it was but the
- 17:50purpose of the track day was not drifting.
- 17:53It just happened to house drifting and like they were just
- 17:56there to like have a track day. Was it kind of similar?
- 17:59Kind of no. So we or was it designated?
- 18:01Yeah, it was designated around here, like Drift Indy started
- 18:04specifically for drifting, but like before that.
- 18:07For me, like around here, Club Fr was a thing for a few years
- 18:10beforehand, but I never. I never went to one of those
- 18:13events because I didn't really discover it until I was probably
- 18:17either a senior or out of high school.
- 18:20And where were they doing it? Back then they were doing it.
- 18:28There was they were using. Road America.
- 18:31Oh yeah, there's a cart track there in the middle of Rd.
- 18:34America. OK.
- 18:35So there was a cart. Really awesome actually.
- 18:37Yeah, I was about to say really cool.
- 18:38Take a facility. So they they use that there was
- 18:41another cart track, I think it was kind of down on the South
- 18:47side of like Chicago and I only think they use it a couple
- 18:51times. And then tire rack, which is in
- 18:54South Bend IN You were gonna say that shit, I thought that.
- 18:57I never went never. Is that the one where it was
- 18:58like a closed St. Because I seen it on the side of
- 19:01the highway, right? Yeah, it's off of like 94, dude.
- 19:06I think 90. Seen that before?
- 19:07It's off 90. Yeah, like 90, Yeah, so that.
- 19:09Sounds interesting. It's like a test track
- 19:11essentially. And they had events there, but
- 19:13it was super strict because it's like an auto cross place.
- 19:16They have sprinklers and stuff and I think, you know, back in
- 19:212000. Four or five, No one's any good,
- 19:25so people are certainly going over the sprinklers.
- 19:28Yeah, yeah, I remember coming back from like a hot and
- 19:30important nights like around 04/05 and there was a couple
- 19:33cage cars like in the parking lot and I was like, those are
- 19:36drift cars. Like you could just tell they're
- 19:38a little beat. Like you could tell they were
- 19:40used. And I was like hey, where are
- 19:42you guys headed? And they're like, hey, we're
- 19:43going to South Bend tomorrow to tire rack.
- 19:45There's gonna be a drift event. And like so like that was one of
- 19:49my like first times like seeing like anything.
- 19:51Street. Drift Like knowing that there's
- 19:53actual drift event, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:55It wasn't just like a thing that's out like out West or out
- 19:59east. I felt like the Midwest was a
- 20:00little bit later as far as like it coming to like fruition.
- 20:04But like when it happened, it was like one of those things
- 20:06where it started to like pop up like consistently.
- 20:09And I was just like, all right, I definitely want to be a part
- 20:10of. This, which is wild because
- 20:12earlier again I meant, I said like, I feel like there's a lot
- 20:15of car shit going on in this like section of the United
- 20:18States. There's like a bunch of car shit
- 20:20going on, especially with drifting.
- 20:22So I was shot. That's that's a shock for me to
- 20:24hear. But I saw once that there was a
- 20:26drift event where it was like it almost looked like a public Rd.
- 20:30that was like closed. That was probably streets of.
- 20:34Yeah, and there's. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:35Oh, OK. It might have been, yeah.
- 20:38In there, like a tall building in the background.
- 20:41Yeah, yeah, super. That shit was sick.
- 20:43Like what did. Did you guys ever experienced
- 20:46that we? Drove that, Yeah, I drove.
- 20:48That that was an MDU. So that was Drift Indy.
- 20:50Technically, MDU was a competition series they had back
- 20:54then, and that was an MDU event. What the fuck?
- 20:57Dude, that wasn't that was not too like, we're not talking like
- 21:002000. We're.
- 21:01Talking about maybe like 2014 or 14, yeah, that reflects me, two
- 21:06years. Two years in a row.
- 21:07Yeah, like right around that time.
- 21:09Yeah. Yeah.
- 21:09I think they did it two years in a row.
- 21:11And yeah, they just pretty much like shut off.
- 21:13It was like a City Park. And it was like, you know, St.
- 21:16roads or whatever. And there is a big train station
- 21:19behind it. So I had like a really cool
- 21:20backdrop and everything. And that train stations like
- 21:22shut down, yeah. It was, but now it's like real
- 21:25fancy apartments. They revived all that area.
- 21:27So like that'll never. Happen I was there like the year
- 21:30after and I got to see like the whole like layout and everything
- 21:33I was like so we went. Where they were, we went there a
- 21:35year or so after the last time. MDU was there because we parked
- 21:39there and did. We took the fixed gears up to
- 21:42Detroit. Yeah, yeah, we wrote.
- 21:43We rode bikes all through. The bikes.
- 21:44It was leading and snowing, and maybe it was absolutely
- 21:48miserable. Oh, the perfect time to ride a
- 21:49bike. You to do that.
- 21:50Finally, we were all probably really warmed up on, you know,
- 21:54beverages like, I mean, it was bad, so.
- 21:58Our one homie. Michael Tung, he lived in Ann
- 22:00Arbor, so he he was living up there at the time and he just
- 22:04like invited us as up and like. It seemed like it was going to
- 22:06be like, like. That time.
- 22:08The year where it could be like 70 or 37.
- 22:12Yeah, so. But I mean, it was fun.
- 22:14Like everyone was a trooper about it.
- 22:15We rode all over the city. That's cool.
- 22:17And. Like all the sketchy spots, you
- 22:19know it was great. Went to the Packard Plant and
- 22:22like. That's cool to see though it.
- 22:23Was cool. So you guys are kind of all
- 22:25sprinkled throughout the Midwest, the drivers at least?
- 22:28So pretty much everybody is in Fort Wayne other than Tom.
- 22:31Yeah, and he lives out in California.
- 22:32Now Drake's an indie. Oh yeah, my brother's an indie.
- 22:34So can't forget about him, right?
- 22:36You better not worry about my blood.
- 22:41Is he into drifting as well? Yeah, so he has a matching Fd's
- 22:44to mine like it's fast as fuck. Like his car is right hand
- 22:48drive. That biggest difference?
- 22:51I forget that. Is I do too.
- 22:54Every month I forget it's right hand drive.
- 22:56He has black wheels instead of the luminous wheels.
- 22:59But yeah, so like, he started driving with us and then he was
- 23:02out in California for a few years.
- 23:03He served in the military, was in the Marines, and then he
- 23:07drove out there for a while. He was at like, Grange, right?
- 23:10Doing. Yeah, he drove, Yeah, Grange a
- 23:11bunch, like I think before. It was, yeah.
- 23:15That track is fond of shit. Have you guys had the?
- 23:18I've never been there, no. I think it's probably the part
- 23:20that it's in the middle of the desert.
- 23:22For me, that gives me just a great vibe.
- 23:23It's like, hey, nobody bothering us out here.
- 23:25Yeah, dude, Maybe like you're in the Wild West out there.
- 23:28Like it doesn't even fucking matter.
- 23:29Helicopter landed on the track, yes.
- 23:31It's crazy. Some guy in a quad.
- 23:33What the fuck? Broke his neck.
- 23:34So they oh, whoa, yeah, they helicoptered him.
- 23:37They're like, can, uh, can we land the helicopter here?
- 23:38They're like, yeah, I guess so. That was pretty sick, but yeah.
- 23:41There's like something similar happened at like Willow Springs
- 23:44when I was there where there was or no.
- 23:46That was a PIR. A couple of weeks.
- 23:48Never mind. Way off.
- 23:49Well, people talk shit on California a lot with being real
- 23:53strict and all this, but there's areas of California that are way
- 23:57not strict on anything. People are just doing whatever
- 23:59the fuck they want. I love California, but.
- 24:04You don't. I do.
- 24:05But like Los Angeles, I'm not really like every 5 minutes when
- 24:07we were there. Frankie's like this place is
- 24:09fake, I don't think. This place is dude, It's so
- 24:12fucking. I've always had a good time out
- 24:13there. Yeah, seriously.
- 24:14We had a fantastic time and recorded a little parody.
- 24:17Yeah, you listen to like the Internet and podcast and like,
- 24:19yeah, the place is falling apart and you're like, I mean, yeah,
- 24:22there's homeless people, but. I mean, that exists everywhere.
- 24:26I saw a crackhead drink it. Remember the crack that I saw?
- 24:29There was we're on the street. What was I doing?
- 24:32Was I already having a hit? We were literally, I was angry.
- 24:35We was angry as fuck, dude. And Frankie is just fucking.
- 24:39I'm like, asleep. But then, but we passed this
- 24:42crackhead who was sitting there and had a jug of milk.
- 24:45It was also just high as shit. I.
- 24:47Just saw Carl in the backseat. Is that a fucking crackhead?
- 24:51And then I hear is that a fucking jug of milk?
- 24:54And he's like, cracking milk is crazy.
- 24:56But we came back. We came back.
- 24:58So it was a full gallon dude. And then we came back and the
- 25:02gallon was like, fucking gone. Whoa.
- 25:04Yeah, and it was only like a couple hours.
- 25:06I was like, this person drank all the milk, OK?
- 25:08It. Was crazy.
- 25:09He's not lactose. He's not definitely not lactose.
- 25:11I could never. I could never.
- 25:13Are you lactose? I'm chilling, but yeah, it's not
- 25:17always a good thing. We did not have cheese today.
- 25:19That's good. I had a I had a slice of cheese
- 25:21earlier. Correct.
- 25:22Bless you, Frankie. We're going to die cracking Milk
- 25:23goes crazy. Yeah, but not to bring us back
- 25:29to drifting. Oh the God forbid.
- 25:31Yeah, fuck. But do you remember what you
- 25:33guys had for your first month? Like what was done in your drift
- 25:36cars back then? Because like you're able to
- 25:38drift them. But I feel like right now I feel
- 25:40like a topic at hand is that everyone overbuilds their shit.
- 25:44Da da da da da da da. We all hear.
- 25:45It I feel like Derek's going to answer this question.
- 25:47Totally fine. And DK is going to be like I had
- 25:5017 cars before I drifted or some shit like well, you said Bug
- 25:53eye, but. Then you also said you'll see
- 25:55and I'm like, why? Do you have a bug drifting well
- 25:56before the bug? Yeah, he was, yeah, well before,
- 25:59but I guess. But he always had a bunch of
- 26:00cars, so like that's never, that's always been a constant.
- 26:03Yeah, he's. Just always a wild card, I
- 26:05guess. Dude, there's too many cars here
- 26:07right now. Go ahead and you could purchase
- 26:10a few. Maybe get some of your friends
- 26:12to. If we had a trailer right now,
- 26:14we really could have brought one back.
- 26:15Hell yeah, cuz I. Had a trailer for sale too.
- 26:18We could sell you a car and a trailer.
- 26:20I got a truck for sale car trailer.
- 26:22I saw you had some 2 wheel toys. I like the two wheel toys.
- 26:25Right now, I would. Like one of those was for sale.
- 26:28Yeah, he'll literally buy one. That's dangerous.
- 26:30Shut up. No, but setup stuff.
- 26:32What did you feel like? Like your first.
- 26:33Like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean, it was.
- 26:37Get a diff that works. Weld it or whatever.
- 26:40Back in the early days, I didn't know that.
- 26:43You know you couldn't get parts on eBay.
- 26:46No, there wasn't. There wasn't like cat backs,
- 26:48knockoffs or anything. So you had to either.
- 26:52Like forums. Yeah, you didn't.
- 26:53You know there was no used parts floating around.
- 26:55Hardly at all. At least around here, you know
- 26:57things were different. Probably out East and West, but
- 27:00would you say so, Frankie? When I was.
- 27:03I mean, but I start. I'm talking like, Oh yeah, 060,
- 27:06yeah, it's. Too far of a difference.
- 27:08Like you couldn't get on eBay and get a cat back that.
- 27:10Yeah, like for 300 bucks I already had to buy.
- 27:12I already know what the stock image looks like.
- 27:15You had to buy Apexi, like my first exhaust.
- 27:17For my first Arc Seven, I had to buy a real Apexi in one with
- 27:21like I didn't eat lunch in high school because I saved my lunch
- 27:24money. And like.
- 27:26It's so real. So real.
- 27:28Bad up, you know. Like you gotta wait for the
- 27:30apexy the the apexy deal that are posted on Sylvia.
- 27:33Or so, yeah, I wish I remember who I even like order that
- 27:36through. But I don't you.
- 27:38Know everything at that time, like anything that was ordered,
- 27:40it was all universal. It's like universal bucket
- 27:42seats, it's universal like just whatever it is.
- 27:45So it's all like kind of like knock off?
- 27:48Ish. Yeah.
- 27:48Stuff or just like APC or like. You know what I mean.
- 27:52It's like. In between that early like
- 27:54tuner, Yeah, like kind of. Like the ads in Import Tuner.
- 27:57Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 27:58So magazines, were you still like a magazine catalog ordering
- 28:02from there type of generation? Yeah, I'd say that probably
- 28:04could have been where I ordered that exhaust.
- 28:06I was heavy magazines. Like, yeah, Super street, like
- 28:09we didn't have, like, shops here, you know?
- 28:11Yeah, like speed shops. There was a couple like street
- 28:13race shops, but like. It was hot.
- 28:16It was hot. Important in style.
- 28:17Yeah, it was just Honda stuff, mostly like.
- 28:18They're probably just fronts anyways.
- 28:20So like, we definitely are ordering, not ordering drift car
- 28:23parts, you know? Yeah, we could get that.
- 28:26Just leave the money right here. So that's what I've been doing
- 28:28wrong. Yeah, it's a lot of sense now.
- 28:30Well, they mentioned you guys mentioned street racing, so I
- 28:33was gonna kind of just assume Honda cuz it's that generation
- 28:37where? In fact, there was a lot of
- 28:39Hondas back then. Like caught in port night shit.
- 28:40Yeah, it was that. And then like here, like a lot
- 28:43of domestics too. So it was always like us being
- 28:45like in the Midwest. There's always that like very
- 28:47heavy, like domestic, like car, like Vibe for sure.
- 28:50Yeah, Trans Am. Dude, there's so once you get
- 28:54like, I remember driving around Michigan, just like, holy shit,
- 28:57there are so many American cars on the road, you don't see that
- 29:01where? We oh, it's still like that.
- 29:02And also like. Yeah, you know in Detroit area
- 29:06it's just like, yeah, Mopar, you know, everything is.
- 29:09Cadillac, like. A lot of Chevy like.
- 29:11And then by us it's like Toyota, dude, it's Toyota, Toyota,
- 29:14Toyota, Toyota, Toyota everywhere.
- 29:16I think it's just because they everybody in our.
- 29:18I feel like everybody in our area never maintains a car ever.
- 29:23Toyota you don't need to, but. Yes, Sir, a lot of Hondas.
- 29:26But California, dude, there were a lot of Toyota that was next
- 29:29level. Toyota Too many.
- 29:30Like, every kind that you could imagine.
- 29:33That was weird. It was very weird.
- 29:34Kind of crazy how? Like different sect.
- 29:36I mean, the fucking Midwest thing makes sense, but like
- 29:39different areas of the country have.
- 29:41You you can't notice it. If you look around you will
- 29:43notice. It or just if we're just
- 29:44Silverado here. Yeah, we're Silverado.
- 29:47I'm on board with that big, big Silverado guy, GMT8.
- 29:50Frankie was allegedly cruising on the four. 100 guy,
- 29:52personally, which GMT400, So that's the more boxy, yeah, Was
- 29:57that the one that I pointed out? Earlier, probably.
- 29:58Well, that was a Suburban, but you see that, that right there,
- 30:00that's a truck to me, I think of Suburban and that's the one I
- 30:03think of because I could draw it.
- 30:05I do like I do like mine, but I need a dermat.
- 30:09Yours is yeah, yours is nice. That that is the only one.
- 30:12I talk shit on it all the time because I have a Sequoia.
- 30:14I don't know. It's like, how much older can
- 30:16you go with trucks before you're like, maybe I shouldn't be
- 30:18fucking using this as a tow rig. They all suck though.
- 30:21Yeah, so, like, it doesn't really matter.
- 30:23Like, even a new one. Everything sucks.
- 30:26Yeah, I mean all you hear about is new vehicles ending up in the
- 30:30dealership with you know transfer a warranty job or
- 30:33something. Wait, Derek, do you tow do you
- 30:35now? For those of you who are
- 30:37listening and aren't on the video portion and you won't even
- 30:39see this anyway. But behind the camera is Derek's
- 30:41FD, and I'm just looking at it all the time.
- 30:44Yeah, you St. drive this thing, yeah.
- 30:46Yeah, so like you drove it here. Yeah.
- 30:49Well, yeah, it's a shocker in its own.
- 30:51I mean like look how low. That shit is.
- 30:53It is crazy, yeah. I don't know, Like, for whatever
- 30:55reason, I enjoy that aspect of like, driving it to and from
- 30:59events like Towings. Definitely like takes some of
- 31:03the stress out of it for sure. Like typically like if we go
- 31:07over 7 hours I try to tow just in case it's because like I've
- 31:12been burnt once before so I had like an ECU like burn up which
- 31:16was my problem. Like it was my fault, but we
- 31:20were maybe sliding on the way to the event and I might have
- 31:23pulled the harness down and yeah.
- 31:25Was that like, on the way to Nashville?
- 31:26Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:27Yeah, so bro, you guys are naming.
- 31:30So yeah, so you guys get around 7 hours is like not a short
- 31:34bracket, like it's like, yeah, if it's a little more than 77,
- 31:38we'll take you around the a good chunk of the country.
- 31:40So I say 7 because I think USA is like basically like 7.
- 31:45On paper, yeah, yeah. Really it's more like are we 7
- 31:48hours away from USA are still? Not feel the same way.
- 31:50Where are we do? Depending on like Chicago
- 31:53traffic for sure, that's usually like the variable, but like.
- 31:56I like to drive it up to Wisconsin a lot.
- 31:58Like that's definitely, probably like maybe that's why I came up
- 32:01with that a little bit like that, that 7 hours, yeah, but
- 32:05like very specific. We went to West Virginia last
- 32:08year. What was that?
- 32:10That's eight. OK, so it was 8 hours. 8 hours
- 32:12last year. Little over the bread, little
- 32:14over the. But also we have like, you know.
- 32:16I'm the only one that towed out to that event.
- 32:18Yeah, so we all should throw everything.
- 32:20So what do you do at, like spare tires and stuff?
- 32:22Just. They go in the back of my truck.
- 32:24Yeah. So you need.
- 32:26So you need somebody. Someone needs a trailer.
- 32:28So most of the time, like for whatever reason, like my car
- 32:30doesn't go through like a whole lot of tires.
- 32:32Like, I don't know if it's just possibly because of the weight
- 32:34of the car. I mean, there's definitely a
- 32:36bunch of like different factors, but I usually always have two
- 32:39new tires SO2 new that's on like the rear and then two that's in
- 32:43the car. I always have one in the
- 32:44passenger seat and then one in the Hatch just because.
- 32:47That's all that it'll fit. How much power does the car
- 32:49make? Right now I'd say probably a
- 32:52little over three in between 300 and 3:50.
- 32:54A bullshit okay. Slower than that, Dirk?
- 32:58Yeah, yeah, Yeah. Wait, you think it's slower?
- 33:00Yeah. So it's probably.
- 33:01Like 300? Yeah, my turbo's.
- 33:04Like as old as I am at this point because.
- 33:06I always. Videos and like.
- 33:08I always think 300 horsepower, that's like a good number.
- 33:11That's a space, like a streetcar driving new events.
- 33:13Yeah, not using a lot of tires, like still having fun.
- 33:16Yeah, I don't like break too much stuff.
- 33:18Yeah, exactly. Like, yeah, but it might be a
- 33:20little under 300 right now. My I have a pretty old like a
- 33:23Pexi like Turbo set up on it. That is.
- 33:27It's a dinosaur. Yeah, so like.
- 33:30Newer, efficient setups are definitely like in the future.
- 33:32Yeah, so we like dinosaur technology too.
- 33:36You. Literally everyone.
- 33:37But you know, you literally do too.
- 33:39I do too. Yeah, so we like that dinosaur
- 33:40technology, but then like, you see like the new G Series turbos
- 33:44and shit and you're like, OK, this is.
- 33:45We were talking earlier about like the the Pexi, like Power
- 33:48FC, like I ran the power of C for, I don't know, maybe eight
- 33:52years or whatever and never had issues with it.
- 33:54So I was like. It works.
- 33:55I'm not changing it. Yeah.
- 33:57And then I kind of had some weird electrical things.
- 33:59So over time, I was like, all right, it makes sense to switch
- 34:03to a newer unit because there's just so many benefits.
- 34:07And fail safes. Yeah, I mean that's the thing
- 34:09for us cuz everyone's telling me do not put a fucking power of
- 34:13seat back in my car cuz. It's like a HKS 2.2 Sr. and
- 34:18like, I don't know, it's still got an old ass turbo.
- 34:20I'm gonna run A20G, dude, and the turbo looks all the shit.
- 34:23Yeah, I have. The sounds.
- 34:24Exactly. That's all I cared about.
- 34:25Exactly, yeah. But then they're like, don't put
- 34:27a fucking Power FC on it. I'm like, yeah, I get it, but
- 34:31like. Dude having the controller.
- 34:32I want the controller, yeah. Like as long as someone can tune
- 34:35it like. Yeah, I mean.
- 34:37I mean, we don't even run fail safes on our shit.
- 34:39Definitely. Yeah, fail safe.
- 34:42Keep an eye on that wide band. Exactly.
- 34:45Like, look at your fucking gauges while you're driving.
- 34:47Like, yeah, something bad could happen.
- 34:49I get it. But I'd rather, I'd rather just.
- 34:52I don't know. I like older shit.
- 34:54I'd rather keep it like analog. I don't want to go into the new
- 34:56world. It's literally the controller.
- 34:58It is the controller too that it is for me, just because when I
- 35:00watch those videos, like they're the controllers right there.
- 35:04Dude, every time I was telling. I don't know if I was.
- 35:07I couldn't have been talking to them at a Pexi.
- 35:09I was talking to like Jimmy Oaks or something.
- 35:11I was like, dude, if they just if Link just made a commander,
- 35:15how fucking hard is that? It's so easy to do if if one of
- 35:19these companies just made that, they would get all of us.
- 35:21Well, it's so nice to be like done with a run.
- 35:23You see all of your peak values and then you can clear them and
- 35:26now you're good for your next run.
- 35:28Without having like a laptop, but obviously like dashes, you
- 35:31know, fancy. Yeah, dashes and stuff you have
- 35:34like. Capabilities for that.
- 35:35Yeah, but I still feel like that's.
- 35:36Like a level above. You know what I mean?
- 35:40Like I'm gonna rip my whole dash out.
- 35:41Well, for example, I would fucking never do that shit.
- 35:44Like so. I think race dashes are cool and
- 35:47then you get one for a while and then I'm like, like my FD has a
- 35:51race pack in it and it looks sweet in there, don't be wrong.
- 35:55But like then I get, you know, look in Derek's car and I see
- 35:59like just the stock ages in the FD look cool.
- 36:01Yeah. And I'm like.
- 36:03Damn, this just seems even like almost more race car than having
- 36:06a race stash. Yeah, because it's like older,
- 36:09but like, yeah, I feel like I get that vibe from you, like you
- 36:12like to kind of do some modern shit sometimes, but also like
- 36:15the older stuff too, so. Honestly, whatever makes sense,
- 36:19you know? Yeah, like a lot of these cars,
- 36:21I didn't build like I bought them like that and then, you
- 36:24know, put your own, did my. Own stuff here and there, but.
- 36:27You know, like I didn't put the race pack in my FD, so like that
- 36:31was the I didn't do much of that car except coil overs and make
- 36:35it worse all around everywhere else, you know?
- 36:38Dude, that car when it had the fucking GTR wheels.
- 36:43It never, never really had. OK, you just put them on.
- 36:46Oh yeah, only on one side, dude. Dude, that's.
- 36:49Yeah. There were 20, yeah.
- 36:51No, I put them on just to see and I'm like, that would never
- 36:53work in any lifetime. It looks so good though.
- 36:57Wait, so which one of these is your main ship that you that you
- 37:00drift? Do?
- 37:00You have? Honestly, do you have a main I?
- 37:02Haven't had a main since I got rid of the skyline and I haven't
- 37:05had a main, So that's the car that Frankie kept.
- 37:07He's like, dude. Scroll down, find the skyline
- 37:10like. Look into your profile.
- 37:11Yeah, I'm like scrolling down. I'm like, OK, apparently Derek
- 37:14fucking hated this car. I had that car for 10 years.
- 37:17Yeah, that's what I thought. I just, I after a while I knew
- 37:20that I wanted to be in an RX7 again.
- 37:23And so I got rid of it for an FC with an LS and I drove the 1st
- 37:29Street League with it. And I just wasn't a fan of the
- 37:33LS. It wasn't like, crazy powerful,
- 37:35and it wasn't that it was lacking power.
- 37:36Just. It was an iron block, so I don't
- 37:39know if it made the car heavier. No, I don't.
- 37:43It just pivoted different. It felt like, in my opinion,
- 37:45could have just been in my head too.
- 37:46But I did one event and I was like, I can't, it's not for me.
- 37:51And then? Probably not going to act the
- 37:52same way as the Rotary as far as the way the weight.
- 37:54The weight's probably not much different, but it is, I think,
- 37:57positioned slightly farther forward.
- 37:59Yeah, yeah. And, you know, I probably
- 38:01shouldn't feel that, but like it just, you know, maybe it was a
- 38:04sounds to you. You know, I like driving.
- 38:06I like driving a car with a clutch a lot.
- 38:08So you know, like my 33 had a laggy 60-1 Garrett non ball
- 38:14bearing. So like, I had to really like
- 38:16drive that thing off. Yeah, and it was fun and so.
- 38:19And that was at RB25. Yeah, yeah, yeah, dude.
- 38:22Yeah, I loved seeing that. I don't know which final bout
- 38:24you guys went to, but one of those, you went with that car.
- 38:27I did two or three, yeah. So either did two final bouts
- 38:31and then the gallery with it. I think I was up there maybe
- 38:33three times with it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:35Yeah. Was that car two different
- 38:37colors? Like you painted it blue.
- 38:40After so when I first threw a kit on I got like a Uris kit and
- 38:45then and then we garage painted it.
- 38:48We garage no we painted it like a ATI.
- 38:51Don't know teal green. Yeah and B Wags.
- 38:54That's what I remember. It turned out like sandpaper
- 38:57but. Yeah, we've all done that.
- 39:00So it was it was like that that color for a while.
- 39:05And then? And then I did BN, You're
- 39:07excited at the same time. And then I did BN.
- 39:09And then that's when it got turned to actual breaking blue.
- 39:11Yeah. Yeah, and I remember.
- 39:13That's when I started drifting it.
- 39:14I remember hearing something about.
- 39:16I think this was after the final bout and shit, but your quarter
- 39:18panel was dented. All the football, dude.
- 39:22Jesus. That was.
- 39:24That's a still ongoing joke. Yeah yeah, refresh my memory
- 39:28because like. I don't actually know where it
- 39:31began, but so so just like S chassis, you know you pull the
- 39:34fenders in the back too far and they'll pop.
- 39:36In Dent, yeah. So my 33 did that, yeah, because
- 39:40I pulled the wheels or the fenders out a lot to fit some
- 39:43like. A BC exclusive 11 1/2 wide you
- 39:46know just yeah and and it popped in and I couldn't get it out
- 39:51because the way those chassis are you can't access in there
- 39:55like you can like an S chassis. It's.
- 39:57All you can get pretty far in there, but I put a football in
- 40:01mine too, so. So the 33 is like the rear shock
- 40:04tower, boxes all that in. There's no way to access it.
- 40:06Obviously you could start cutting holes and then getting
- 40:09in there, but yeah, it stayed dented forever.
- 40:12Yeah, at some point on Facebook or something, someone was like,
- 40:18all right, you know, I posted a picture of the car and like 30
- 40:20different people. Like, you know, you could put a
- 40:22football in there and then it just like.
- 40:25So we all run with it, of course, and every time we would
- 40:27like, see and be like, hey, you know.
- 40:29Yeah, OK, so that was a joke. So everyone was fucking busting
- 40:32your balls. Yeah.
- 40:33But I don't. It's like one of those things,
- 40:34you know how like something gonna have 30 comments, but you
- 40:37only see like two. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:38So like, they didn't see that 20 other people.
- 40:41Are already recommended. Dude, I don't know man.
- 40:45Your Facebook and Instagram probably gave me a lot of
- 40:49entertainment over the last 10 years, so I want to thank you
- 40:51for that. But I was back in my drinking
- 40:53days, dude. Yeah, it was off the wall.
- 40:55Yeah dude, it was some funny fucking times.
- 40:58But yeah, I dude, I ended up putting a football on my fucking
- 41:00quarter panel and it did kind of help.
- 41:02I feel like another friend of mine has did the same thing and
- 41:05I feel like this came in to come.
- 41:06This is so fucking weird. That we're mentioning in there
- 41:08though? Even with the over Fender, I
- 41:11don't think I took that shit out.
- 41:13That's just working a little. While to me, but yeah that that
- 41:17that came up recently because somebody else had a dent in
- 41:19their quarter or made it might have been their Fender or their
- 41:22door And I literally was like I said might have said it just
- 41:26like that. I'm like, you know, you could
- 41:27put a football in there and I'm like, fuck, that's like.
- 41:31One of those, like old Sylvia recommendations that people
- 41:34probably just stumble upon. Yeah, it was sticky somewhere.
- 41:37I mean, it's a kind of a good fucking idea, to be honest with
- 41:40you. No, that I think it's a legit
- 41:42like Body Shop trick because there's like a tool that has
- 41:45like a hand pump I think that they buy that resembles.
- 41:47It's a sort of football. The thing is, like that dent was
- 41:50not getting pushed out with that football.
- 41:52That's all I remember. I remember like unless I left it
- 41:54inflated in. There.
- 41:55Exactly. That's that's what you have to
- 41:57do. Like, that's why I think my car
- 41:58still has that shit in there. But yeah, I just remember that I
- 42:02was like, I need to ask him about this.
- 42:04Another thing I need to ask you guys who decided?
- 42:07The Wheel Color Derek by Insky. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:10So actually I think DK at the time I got the car wanted to
- 42:19change the wheels pretty quick cuz I wanted to make it mine.
- 42:24And I was kind of thinking about different colors and stuff, and
- 42:28he said that something popped up on zip Tide.
- 42:30And I wanna say, I think it was like Powers or somebody was
- 42:34selling, yeah. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 42:36Yeah, he was selling some like 57DS or something, Yeah.
- 42:39And I was like, I'd already seen an FC that was in Japan on that
- 42:45colorway. It was blue with luminous
- 42:46wheels. And I was like, all right.
- 42:49Yeah, and that was back when it wasn't really, like, popular
- 42:52here. Yeah, it was like just starting.
- 42:54Yeah, I think that the time the only wheels that were like
- 42:57available in that color were the gram lights and maybe some Weds
- 43:01and like the Wed sports. And like a lot of those didn't
- 43:04really make it over here for whatever reason.
- 43:06So like I ended up just getting some secondhand wheels and then
- 43:11it just, I don't know, like it kind of naturally happened.
- 43:13So it like worked really well because I had Chrome wheels on
- 43:16it before, which like I really liked but like they just didn't
- 43:20seem like. That's what it needed to be, I
- 43:25guess. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:26Yeah. I was like, all right.
- 43:27It wasn't spicy enough. Dude, it's crazy cuz it's like I
- 43:30feel like that is something that would be hard to get all your
- 43:33friends on board with, you know what I mean?
- 43:34But I could never for. Some reason why you guys are
- 43:36down. His car was really cool like
- 43:38right away with those. So it was pretty much like
- 43:40everything was the coolest car to drift into events.
- 43:43Yeah, he showed up with. It wasn't even stock body.
- 43:46It was like all stock with like a from bumper.
- 43:49Yeah, like I had like a sea W front bumper, like feed skirts.
- 43:53Like, it had like different. Yeah, it had like the feed, like
- 43:56sidesteps, yeah, yeah. But like it was like stock.
- 43:59Yeah, Yeah. Just like stock and body just
- 44:01really low with you had the 57. 57DS in the.
- 44:06These in the front and then the forged in the rear.
- 44:09It's always been 1718 staggers, so just like that's cool.
- 44:12Trying to keep like the nose, like the front of the car down
- 44:15low while it's sliding still, just because they kind of dip
- 44:17quite a bit like just from the factory, like they'd squat quite
- 44:21a bit so. OK, Yeah, I don't know anything
- 44:23about FDS as far as like Wheel Fitments is 1718 kind of like a
- 44:27popular thing? I think.
- 44:29Kind of standard nowadays is like eighteens all around.
- 44:31That's always kind of been the thing.
- 44:33But I knew that like anytime I would like to see them, even
- 44:35like in Japan when they had eighteens on the front and look
- 44:38kind of tall. And I didn't want that.
- 44:41Yeah, on the front. Well, that and, like, I knew if
- 44:43I ran like a 17, like, I still had a like decent amount of room
- 44:47and I could put a decent tire on it.
- 44:49So like, I'm not rubbing like running rubber bands and like,
- 44:53rubbing everywhere. It still rubs, even with the
- 44:55seventeens. Yeah, like, it's made a lot of
- 44:57room over the years. Like through, just like.
- 44:59Self clearance, yeah, yeah. For sure like.
- 45:02Lower control, but dude, you put eighteens on there, It's like.
- 45:05A Oh, fuck yeah. Contacting everything.
- 45:07Yeah, You just have to like put it up in the air at that point.
- 45:09You know, I'm not up in the air, but it just has to be a little
- 45:12bit higher. And like that kind of wasn't
- 45:13something I really wanted to like do with the Still don't
- 45:17want to do, but yeah. 1718 is the way if the car looks good
- 45:20with it, like that's, yeah. I think.
- 45:22It's crazy just because you're like, did it, did it evolve into
- 45:26this there? It's always like, I don't know,
- 45:28I'm I might just be reflecting it to mine, but like I feel like
- 45:31I was on a wrong path, then I jump back on the right path,
- 45:33then back wrong, then back on right and then.
- 45:36Just like hopping back and forth on what I think is correct.
- 45:40I don't personally think he's ever had a bad version.
- 45:42Of that's what I'm about to ask is like, was there ever a
- 45:44regretful mod you did rough sometimes with like Broken
- 45:48Arrow, but like it looked really cool.
- 45:49Yeah, still probably right. Like, damn man.
- 45:52I mean a lot of just like I'm pretty nerdy about it.
- 45:55So like I obsessed as why I like getting.
- 45:58Yeah, well, like I. Just you could tell.
- 46:00Obsessed over like each piece and like kind of envisioning
- 46:03them in my head like how they would look.
- 46:05And like then like waiting sometimes years in order to find
- 46:08like certain pieces like arrow pieces and stuff, just cuz it
- 46:11was hard to get stuff in the States or whatever.
- 46:13So like it was it, it was definitely really thought out.
- 46:16But like there was times where it was very rough.
- 46:18I mean quarters got punched in or broken skirts from you know
- 46:22mistakes sliding off or dirt dropping or whatever.
- 46:24So like, it's definitely seen like some stages that were
- 46:28pretty rough, but like, I definitely like.
- 46:30Felt like very like intentional on a lot of the decisions I
- 46:33made, yeah. I feel like we were just talking
- 46:36about this with someone else about how you know how I was
- 46:39saying like it's you want to keep your car looking good and
- 46:42everything, which this is a perfect example.
- 46:44Bro, that was literally us on the way here, dude.
- 46:46We were having this conversation.
- 46:48It was me. It's hard, man.
- 46:49It's. It was me you were having a
- 46:51conversation with? Sure.
- 46:52Yes, because. It was just 600 miles ago.
- 46:55Yeah, yeah, exactly. I have a I have a thing.
- 46:58And I might have just learned this from Frankie, because.
- 47:01Like a lot of people are super focused on just like during each
- 47:05other and having a demo Derby. And like, I don't know.
- 47:09There's a part of me where since I work hard on something, I want
- 47:11it to look good. I want it to slide and look that
- 47:14way that I pictured in my head, that I don't really want
- 47:17somebody to just come tank my shit.
- 47:19That doesn't mean I don't want to drive and I don't want to
- 47:21have a good time, but like, I need it to look good all the
- 47:24time. It could be a hunk of shit to
- 47:26other people, but to me, if it looks good, it's good to me.
- 47:29Which is like so arrow on all the time.
- 47:32Yeah, even if it's broken, I'll repair it in the pit with the
- 47:35blue duct tape roll that I have. Yeah, repair it, put it back on
- 47:38the car. My is is blue as well, which is
- 47:40funny because. I was actually, yeah.
- 47:43Yeah, you'd get some green wheels.
- 47:44You'd be all right. They're not green.
- 47:46They're like. Yeah, in my head they're green.
- 47:48But why they're not? I wanted some luminous stuff
- 47:50like that too, just because I feel like it's not rowdy enough
- 47:52with my plain white wheels. But like I don't think.
- 47:55It's funny that you said you had Chrome, because I was like,
- 47:57damn, I would like Chrome wheels.
- 47:58Yeah, but like that's like your signature look now like the.
- 48:02Yeah. That's exactly like and I'll be
- 48:06straight up honest if it was any other group of I don't think you
- 48:09guys, I don't think they would nail it.
- 48:11I didn't even know there. Was killing this shit.
- 48:13I don't know how because. For a long while, he nails it.
- 48:15I just kind of ride the coattails.
- 48:16Yeah, yeah. I've seen your skyline.
- 48:18So it was. It was.
- 48:19He pretends like, no, everything that like from like his 911 to
- 48:24his FDE to whatever he builds like it's it still has like
- 48:28those characteristics of like a hard streetcar.
- 48:30Yeah, and like, that's what we. I mean, that's what gets us
- 48:33excited exactly. COM cars are so cool and they
- 48:36can be really neat and done like so professionally.
- 48:40But like, there's a difference between like something that only
- 48:43exists on the track versus something that like, you can see
- 48:45it in a city, you can see it going down the street late at
- 48:48night. Like, it's just a different like
- 48:50feeling that it gives. And like that's always something
- 48:52that's like, I don't know, kind of excited me because like, it
- 48:56has like a duality to it. Like doesn't look sick on the
- 48:58street and it looks sick on the track.
- 49:00Like to me like I'm trying to like optimize like the amount of
- 49:04time that I can spend with like. That vehicle.
- 49:06Yeah, now you said exactly how I feel.
- 49:08Yeah, holy crap. Brilliant.
- 49:11Like I want. I want the car to look.
- 49:13It's more important how it looks on the street than anything else
- 49:16to me. Like, I want it to look like a
- 49:17cool, like you see it driving down the highway.
- 49:19You're like that shit's sick, not.
- 49:21Like I feel silly sometimes cuz like since it's like the yellow
- 49:23and blue, like yeah it's such high.
- 49:25It is kind of like a racy. Look, yeah, it's like very like
- 49:28Boy Eraserish. But I mean that has to do with
- 49:30like me getting older, I think a little bit too, like I'm a
- 49:33little more like. Self-conscious of it cuz I was
- 49:35like man, I'm driving a huge RC car.
- 49:37Yeah, but I mean, I love it. At the same time, it's.
- 49:39Kind of how you feel when you put vinyl on the car too, cuz
- 49:42then you're like, is this car even like, should I be driving
- 49:45this shit? I'm kind of old.
- 49:47Yeah, I get what you're saying, but like you guys literally
- 49:49like. That's basically where I was
- 49:51going with this whole I mean, you could be 40 years old
- 49:54driving that around and feeling like a kid, or you could be 40
- 49:57years old yelling at a TV screen because your football team
- 50:00didn't score. Yeah.
- 50:01So like, yeah, it's all, it's all just different stuff.
- 50:04Yeah, for sure. We're all we're all still kids.
- 50:06Really, truly love. Like, I feel like it's important
- 50:09to play to that side of you where you're like, this is the
- 50:13shit I wanted when I was a kid. Yeah, that too.
- 50:15Like if you're not making yourself happy with that, I feel
- 50:18like it's not really. Like, you're not really making
- 50:21yourself happy, then you're not like, living up to what you
- 50:24wanted to do, you know? Yeah.
- 50:25For sure. I mean, cuz there's definitely
- 50:27parts of me still that I'll walk into the grocery store and it's
- 50:30not like I take it there very often, but there's sometimes
- 50:32where I'm like out, like I'll be over at like Derek's or
- 50:34something and I'm like driving home and I need to like pick
- 50:37something up and then like on the way back out or as I'm
- 50:40walking away I'm kind of like. All right.
- 50:42Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's that feeling, dude.
- 50:46That's that shit. Yeah, yeah.
- 50:48Or like you hear a song playing, like you had to go somewhere.
- 50:51Then you hear a song playing or something or something on TV and
- 50:54you're like, I'm going to take the fucking drift car to go get
- 50:56milk. Yeah, for sure.
- 50:58Yeah. Cuz I got to go down that one
- 51:00Rd. Yeah.
- 51:01For me it's like I don't know this is also might sound stupid
- 51:06but if the three quarter view of a car.
- 51:10You know when you walk away from it, yeah, I get rich.
- 51:13And that three quarter view, so important, It's like the most
- 51:16important view to me. Yeah, if something about the car
- 51:19looks weird in that view, then I'm it's just gonna bother me
- 51:22forever. Mine is the side.
- 51:23Profile You like the side profile A. 100%, yeah.
- 51:26Yeah. Damn.
- 51:27OK. Just the side of the car is if
- 51:30that's not perfect, like if it's too high or too low in one part,
- 51:33like. I think that's probably why I
- 51:35like rotaries, because all of them have that profile, like if
- 51:39you look. At that.
- 51:41That's an FB right under there. It's an essay, but same thing.
- 51:43Or essay. Sorry, but the IT has that.
- 51:47The fact that you're that shit like what I would have been
- 51:50like. Well, there's a, well, there's a
- 51:52common trend around here, yeah. So I kind of just assumed.
- 51:55That it was. But it has that has that shape
- 51:58you know of like a race car and like I don't think that'll ever
- 52:02get old, at least hopefully to any of us because.
- 52:06If we don't have that, then what the hell do we got?
- 52:07It's like the like the idea of like a kind of like front
- 52:11engine, rear drive, like typically like the seatings like
- 52:13back A little bit further has a little bit longer textbooks.
- 52:16Yeah, silhouette of that, in a way.
- 52:18It's like hot wheel silhouette, but On the contrary, DK you have
- 52:22you have a front wheel drive like car.
- 52:26It's like it. I don't really know.
- 52:28Like I wouldn't have guessed. That you would have right?
- 52:30Like we don't know where you're. Going like, damn, you just like
- 52:33to try a bunch of shit. That was one of our, that was
- 52:35Camden's one of our teammates car and he got that I think when
- 52:38he was probably before they were illegal in the US allegedly, but
- 52:44yeah. So that was the only one that's
- 52:46bagged in here. So, like, I feel like that's a
- 52:48special car. It's really nice.
- 52:50Probably the coolest one I got, yeah.
- 52:53I don't know. You got a.
- 52:55You got some cool stuff. Yeah, you know what?
- 52:57I want to talk about that Red FC outside.
- 53:00Yeah, yeah. What's?
- 53:01The deal with that one? What's the story with that?
- 53:03So that was an old, risky devil car.
- 53:05I had a feeling, yeah, I saw the the junk that was David Lee's
- 53:10car back in the day and then it got parted slightly, pieced back
- 53:14together and then one of his Risky Devil teammates ended up
- 53:19with it in Ann Arbor. And then it was a huge it's a
- 53:25basket case and then I traded my S2000 for it recently with hopes
- 53:31to maybe revive it. But I just It's kind of the back
- 53:34burner. Who knows how long, but.
- 53:35I mean, you got a lot of fucking projects.
- 53:37You traded a whole ASS S2000 for an RX7.
- 53:40For an RX7 and then you use the word basket case.
- 53:45I'm like. Damn.
- 53:47Something's not headed up here. Now it doesn't around.
- 53:49Here, it's a passion. It's a.
- 53:51This is like there's a garage of passion in here.
- 53:54But. Yeah.
- 53:55Like. I don't know, man, that for me
- 53:57that's sick. Just 'cause I know one day
- 54:00hopefully it'll get used for something.
- 54:02Yeah. You seem to not like to sell
- 54:04stuff, so yeah, that's a problem.
- 54:06That's that's one of my biggest faults, I'd say.
- 54:09I know you're I know you don't have a realistic number, but if
- 54:11you had to take a guess on how many cars you owned.
- 54:13Good luck owned. Someone asked me today and I
- 54:16have them all written down, so I just took a picture of that and
- 54:18sent it to him. OK, it was like 22.
- 54:21I think that's it between me and my wife, yeah.
- 54:23No. No, no, that's right.
- 54:25Now, how many? No, right.
- 54:26NOT like. Oh, I meant like, over.
- 54:28Yeah. Oh, like right now you have 22.
- 54:31Yeah, just so everyone heard that.
- 54:32Oh. Right now, he's got. 22 colors?
- 54:35I was like 22. Sounds like a low number for his
- 54:38lifetime. Yeah, I don't know.
- 54:39Whatever it is. It's probably got to be in the
- 54:40hundreds. You think?
- 54:43It's definitely over 100. I feel like getting.
- 54:44Over 100 since but like I don't. That's The thing is like I have
- 54:4820 some now because like I don't like to get rid of them.
- 54:51So, like, yeah, of course I'll buy something that I'm like, oh,
- 54:55I thought I'd like this and it was cool, but I'm over it for
- 54:58now, you know, so. It's typically typically like an
- 55:01exchange. It's like but.
- 55:03You swap cars a lot, Yeah, yeah, yeah, Trade them.
- 55:06Yeah. I mean, so knowing you through
- 55:08Instagram, for the most part, I didn't know what to expect when
- 55:11we came here. But then when we came here, I
- 55:12was like, holy shit, there's a. Lot bro, I was just woke up.
- 55:15I really was like having a coffee.
- 55:18Cranky's like looking for the house.
- 55:20I was like, yeah, they'll have some cool cars.
- 55:21And I'm like, I'm like, I see a not that many be over there.
- 55:24Are you sure it might not be that one?
- 55:26Yeah. So.
- 55:28No, it's awesome, dude. It's so cool to see like, I
- 55:31don't know, like you don't really see this in Jersey, like.
- 55:34A selection like this so much Because again, yeah, you don't.
- 55:37Yeah. I mean, it's a space thing too.
- 55:39Like, I mean, we talked about prices for shops and whatnot.
- 55:41Yeah, yeah, everything's a lot of money in that area.
- 55:43So like, no one really has space to store anything.
- 55:47So. But, and I feel like drifting is
- 55:49different over there, dude, you know what I mean?
- 55:52Well, I'm just saying, do they have takeovers here?
- 55:53Is that a thing here? It's yeah, it's like caught on
- 55:56in the last couple summers. I've not.
- 55:58I've never seen one happening. Neither have we.
- 56:00We have not been in one. Maybe it's just not real.
- 56:03It's all fake. Yeah, right.
- 56:05Yeah. It's all spoken here.
- 56:06It's what the media wants you to believe in.
- 56:07It's an industry. Plan.
- 56:10That's what we prefer to think that those are just like kind of
- 56:13a nonfactor. If you don't see them happening,
- 56:15then yeah, just keep, just keep taking their.
- 56:16Face That's good. I see the cars like when we're
- 56:19St. driving and stuff, we get revved out by them, but.
- 56:21Like. Outside of that, we don't really
- 56:24fuck with this dude. They would light your shit up if
- 56:27they saw that driving on. Yo, come over here.
- 56:29Follow us. That shit scares me.
- 56:32Me too. But I mentioned that because
- 56:35like, would you say the Drifting Community has gotten like, I
- 56:40don't know, do you enjoy it more now or do you enjoy it?
- 56:43Or what aspects did you enjoy about about drifting more back
- 56:46then? Than now so I feel like it's
- 56:49definitely changed but I've I want I'm curious to hear from
- 56:52you. I'm.
- 56:52Very curious. So at a young age, you know when
- 56:55you're learning to drift and doing that and no one else is
- 56:59doing it, it's kind of like being the dude that could tray
- 57:03flip a six set of stairs. That's a perfect.
- 57:06Fucking embarrassing, I've never been able to do.
- 57:09But but like, that was the difference between the guy who's
- 57:14pushing around a long board and the guy tray flipping.
- 57:18I was a long. Border.
- 57:19And so, like, I think being a drifter kind of made you feel
- 57:23like a badass, you know, Especially when you'd go to
- 57:25autocross and get kicked out because you're drifter.
- 57:27Because you're drifter, whether you were knocking over cones or
- 57:29not, Yeah. Yeah.
- 57:30So I think it made you definitely feel, you know, even
- 57:34though nobody even knew what it was.
- 57:36You personally were like, yeah, I got this.
- 57:39Yeah, OK. I feel the same way.
- 57:42Even when I started drifting, I feel like that was the same
- 57:44thing. And like on a big scale, you
- 57:47know, you can walk into a parts store and you're seeing drifting
- 57:50or Yeah, or I mean it's on every commercial now.
- 57:54Now everybody knows it's still very mainstream or it has become
- 57:58mainstream. But like, on the scale of
- 58:01things, it's not like we know every guy drifting in Fort
- 58:04Wayne, probably. Ohh yeah I think.
- 58:06So, so and for the most part there's probably I would say in
- 58:10Fort Wayne 30 people doing it now.
- 58:12Yeah, that. Are consistently going, maybe
- 58:14even more, actually. And like, it's when I started
- 58:18there was just me for probably 2 at least two years.
- 58:22I was the only one in town going drifting.
- 58:25Yeah, yeah. And then I'd say you Yeah, you
- 58:28were next. Probably.
- 58:29Yeah, yeah, like me and Caleb pretty much.
- 58:31Yeah, yeah. What annoys me that I noticed is
- 58:33that I feel like a lot of people are just doing this shit for the
- 58:36clip. Doing it for the video, Yeah.
- 58:38But they come and go, Yeah, I mean that that happens.
- 58:41I mean, hell, I mean, I remember even seeing guys that like, did
- 58:45it, you know, I guess when Instagram was like kind of
- 58:47blowing up, like there would be dudes, you know, with all of a
- 58:51sudden like a bajillion followers that are really doing
- 58:54it and having a really cool car all of a sudden, really quick
- 58:57and like doing well. And then next thing you know,
- 58:58they're just gone. Yeah, they're just out.
- 59:00It was, it was like a it was legit a phase, you know?
- 59:03Yeah. The wild thing is, is like.
- 59:06I'll see somebody do some Welch and I sent Frankie a video.
- 59:08It's a very it's a spot that I knew of.
- 59:11It was by my old parents house. I think I sent it to you and
- 59:14like it. It may be somebody drifting for
- 59:18the clip, but I watched the driving and I'm like, damn, he's
- 59:21like pretty kind of a good driver.
- 59:22The guy you're talking about is literally the type of person
- 59:26that would do that for a clip, but he actually shreds, so it's
- 59:28annoying. Yeah, so it's annoying.
- 59:30It's not annoying because you're like, no, I mean, I guess it.
- 59:32Is, but it's kind of annoying because it's like we don't.
- 59:37I can't even say that I'll be a hypocrite.
- 59:39I was going to say, like, we don't want to put our spot on
- 59:41blast, but The thing is, like, that was midday.
- 59:44Yeah, there's traffic, everything.
- 59:45There's traffic coming the opposite direction.
- 59:48Yeah, like no spotters, no nothing.
- 59:50Yeah, like we have like me, Josh from Front St.
- 59:54Like we have put clips up before of us hitting a spot, but like
- 59:58unless you are really from the area, you're not going to
- 1:00:00fucking know where it is in. The middle of the night, it's
- 1:00:02there's an etiquette, you know what I mean.
- 1:00:03And like even with like, I guess the question that you asked
- 1:00:06before with like Derek, like how it makes you feel like when you
- 1:00:09first started and what's different?
- 1:00:10Honestly, for me it doesn't feel that different because.
- 1:00:14That's a lot I'm getting from you guys.
- 1:00:15Yeah. Well, I mean, honestly, we're
- 1:00:18still doing the same things that we did 10 years ago.
- 1:00:20We're working in the garage. We're driving to the events,
- 1:00:23we're meeting new homies. We're having a good time either
- 1:00:28competing or not competing, no matter what kind of at the end
- 1:00:31of the day, we're just enjoying this thing that we enjoy a lot.
- 1:00:34Hell yeah. If more people are into it,
- 1:00:36that's cool. But also, if not, that's also
- 1:00:41cool because we like it a lot because we like it.
- 1:00:45Yeah, dude, I was getting that vibe from you guys the whole
- 1:00:48night and I knew that question was gonna come up.
- 1:00:51And I was like, really interested like how are they
- 1:00:53going to view drifting nowadays compared to old?
- 1:00:55And I was like, I bet they're going to say.
- 1:00:56I feel like it doesn't matter the same to you guys because
- 1:00:59you're just like I've we're already doing it.
- 1:01:00I mean it's it's definitely like more accessible and there's a
- 1:01:03lot more people there, which is good and bad.
- 1:01:04Yeah. Because you're going to see the
- 1:01:05people that you know. Like you can sometimes you see
- 1:01:08people and you're like, all right, I know you're going to be
- 1:01:10around for the next 10 years or you can see somebody that's like
- 1:01:13like you were talking about earlier like like very good or
- 1:01:17like you know, talented and like can really wheel and like it's
- 1:01:21kind of a fly by night kind of thing.
- 1:01:22It's like, all right. Not doing it for the same
- 1:01:25reasons, yeah. And I mean that's fine.
- 1:01:27Like if that's what you want to do, like that's on you, but
- 1:01:29like. It's like try, you know?
- 1:01:30It's like people want to try something new and something
- 1:01:33might happen to be really good. And it's like, oh, even though
- 1:01:35I'm really killing this, it's still maybe not for me.
- 1:01:38Yeah, yeah, absolutely. The end of the day, and
- 1:01:39different things in life happen too, like you know you lost your
- 1:01:43teammate and like. Yeah, maybe that time, maybe
- 1:01:47that was the right move for him mentally or what have you.
- 1:01:51But like, yeah, I I I do understand that it sometimes
- 1:01:55doesn't. You don't see it till the end.
- 1:01:56Yeah, absolutely. I mean, there's a million things
- 1:01:59like family things, work, things like there's so many other
- 1:02:02things like outside of this, yeah, are huge factors because
- 1:02:04it's not a cheap, like hobby, you know?
- 1:02:07So like. Yeah.
- 1:02:09So like the amount of, like, you know, sacrifice that you put
- 1:02:13into it, like not everyone makes it through that.
- 1:02:16And like, sometimes that's good because, like, it can cause,
- 1:02:19like mental health issues or like different things.
- 1:02:21Or it can help. Or it could help mental health.
- 1:02:23Yeah, exactly, exactly. It's it's like there's a duality
- 1:02:26to it. For sure.
- 1:02:26Like, it's one of those things where like sometimes, like after
- 1:02:29I haven't driven a while, I'm just like, ah, whatever.
- 1:02:31And then I'll go drive and I'm like, Oh my gosh, now I remember
- 1:02:34how much I enjoyed. It's like I'm driving home on
- 1:02:38the street enjoying my car, like the car's driving fine and made
- 1:02:42it through the whole weekend. Like I had some like good
- 1:02:44tandems with the homies like or whatever it was and like that
- 1:02:49five or eight or two, whatever. Our drive is just like.
- 1:02:53Very bliss. It's like a yeah, it's like this
- 1:02:56is a successful drive home and I'm like, all right, I'm going
- 1:02:59to work tomorrow on Monday and like, I'm chilling like this is
- 1:03:02good. Yeah, that.
- 1:03:03That's so. Damn bro, it's very refreshing
- 1:03:07to. Hear you're hitting, like all
- 1:03:08the points, just cuz yeah, for some reason.
- 1:03:11For some reason I feel like by us.
- 1:03:13We have this other feeling where we're like we're we're not
- 1:03:16enjoying the new age Drifters and stuff.
- 1:03:18I think it's just cuz it's a lot more saturated by us and then
- 1:03:21we're exposed to the things that aren't good but.
- 1:03:24I also talking to them. I also realize it has a lot to
- 1:03:27do with yourself. You know what I mean?
- 1:03:30Like how you view it. And if we're doing it like that,
- 1:03:33then that's on us. Yeah, well, like, I mean, for
- 1:03:36example, like let's say, you know, we all are into having
- 1:03:39enjoyable looking cars, yeah. Obviously that's always
- 1:03:43debatable on who you are and what you think looks cool, but
- 1:03:45we obviously have a general idea of what we like to be around and
- 1:03:50what we like to see on track. You know, race cars look cool
- 1:03:53because they get raced. Yeah, you know.
- 1:03:55And so our idea drift cars is, you know, shares the same idea
- 1:04:01as I think guys in our generation that learned about
- 1:04:06drifting when that's what the cars look like.
- 1:04:07Exactly, Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:04:08And so. There's always going to be the
- 1:04:12new age guys that have the bash bar cars, yeah, or whatnot.
- 1:04:15The. Football helmet.
- 1:04:17Yeah, yeah. That's a really good name for.
- 1:04:19That I didn't do that. Somebody made a meme and said
- 1:04:22when the football helmet 350Z wants the.
- 1:04:25Tandem with you? Yeah, I saw.
- 1:04:27That and I'm like it. Took me a second to get that
- 1:04:28because I didn't get it. I thought it meant like
- 1:04:31something else about like the guy wearing a football helmet
- 1:04:35and then like finally like clicked and I'm like, ah, the
- 1:04:38car looks like. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:40Look who's. See it now?
- 1:04:41Yeah, I mean we, I would like to talk about that that.
- 1:04:45I mean, I feel like we're leading into another realm of
- 1:04:47the conversation where, like some people are changing styles.
- 1:04:52Yeah, I had this conversation recently, just cuz.
- 1:04:54The cars are getting taller. Cars are getting taller, people
- 1:04:57are running different setups. Yeah, I think so.
- 1:05:00I met somebody who's. I met a few people who follow
- 1:05:03the podcasts. Or from your smooth brain they
- 1:05:06have red cars and they're into that close driving which.
- 1:05:11It's kind of crazy to me and I've I've been like, dude, you
- 1:05:13guys are crazy, but what? And their cars are beat up.
- 1:05:16What do you mean close to? You mean just like aggressive
- 1:05:18tandem? A very aggressive tandem.
- 1:05:20That's their goal is to get close OK and like, it doesn't
- 1:05:24really like. It's a completely different
- 1:05:26thought process to me because my goal is I'm going to go out
- 1:05:29there and drive my absolute best.
- 1:05:32So I want my front grip. I want my rear grip.
- 1:05:35I'm, I have it set up this way, this way, this way.
- 1:05:37And then you talk to them. And then?
- 1:05:40Fix you know we're exchanging like information on like what
- 1:05:43you're running and like they're young like young.
- 1:05:46And I'm like how are they figuring this out?
- 1:05:49It's. Probably, we were telling.
- 1:05:50Trial and error, crazy like high psi in the front so that
- 1:05:53everybody can scrub the same like and it's just like shit
- 1:05:56that I would have never thought. Yeah, same.
- 1:05:58Like that new age is weird just because drifting doesn't really
- 1:06:03have It's subjective, you know? There's no right, There's no
- 1:06:07wrong. But yet it still continues to
- 1:06:09progress. Do they drive cars like the
- 1:06:11Front Street cars are now like that high?
- 1:06:13High. No, I mean, are they high?
- 1:06:17They're not. Really.
- 1:06:17They're local here? Yeah.
- 1:06:18Their cars have gradually gotten.
- 1:06:20Higher and higher and higher, probably with the with the goal
- 1:06:23in mind. Yeah.
- 1:06:24All cool dudes, very young. They're going to be on the
- 1:06:27podcast in BMI in September or in October.
- 1:06:29In September. Nice now, Yeah.
- 1:06:31So yeah, yeah. Like how do you I mean?
- 1:06:35I know how you guys feel about it, but let's go through it.
- 1:06:39Like, how do you guys feel about that whole driving style, like
- 1:06:41high cars? I think it's like.
- 1:06:43On shit. So it's the same thing we've
- 1:06:46seen with prodrifting. OK.
- 1:06:50The, I guess you could call it progression or I don't really
- 1:06:53know what it is, but you know the pro cars gradually got
- 1:06:57higher. Yeah, more powerful.
- 1:06:59Softer, more powerful, and. To a point it was good.
- 1:07:05And then to a point it exceeded what was good.
- 1:07:09And I'm not just saying aesthetically, but overall like
- 1:07:13you're now finally seeing drivers speak up about it's too
- 1:07:16much. Yeah, and the cars are overly
- 1:07:19gripped up. That's the battle now I think
- 1:07:21that we're seeing with the the guys, the style guys
- 1:07:25transitioning into the more performance side of things and.
- 1:07:33I think it'll start to come back eventually because.
- 1:07:35I think so too. It's like, I mean, you know,
- 1:07:37they're yeah, and they're excited that they're getting
- 1:07:39more performance out of their cars, which racing cars is fun.
- 1:07:42That's what you do with a real race car, how to get the most
- 1:07:44you can out of it. So that's just what's happening
- 1:07:47with drift cars now. But I think there's a point
- 1:07:51where it exceeds too much and the pros are even seeing it.
- 1:07:55And so eventually, with the style of cars that people are
- 1:07:59now. Jacking up the fronts and
- 1:08:01whatnot, there is eventually gonna be a point that they go
- 1:08:04too far. Yeah.
- 1:08:05Like, for example, like you have like like Forsberg, like
- 1:08:08speaking out. Like not speaking out.
- 1:08:10But like bringing up the topic and being like, you know, these
- 1:08:12cards are so wound up that like, we could even put on like a
- 1:08:16better show if they weren't at that point.
- 1:08:18Yeah, and like seeing someone that's a season to him that's
- 1:08:21been in like, drifting since really like.
- 1:08:24Very beginning. And started from something we
- 1:08:27can relate to. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:08:29Because probably a Ka car, right?
- 1:08:30Yeah, exactly. So to have someone with that
- 1:08:32much experience being like, hey, this would actually be better
- 1:08:35like, I feel like sometimes for Derek and I like it kind of like
- 1:08:41kind of not solidifies. But like gives us like an idea
- 1:08:44of like, okay, like we're not just holding on to this thing
- 1:08:48because like, it's only style. It's only this, it's only that.
- 1:08:51It's not just a preference thing.
- 1:08:52It's like a lot of that driving most of the time, in my opinion,
- 1:08:56can be done with cars that are on the lower side.
- 1:09:01I've seen old clips of Naoki and Mihan and he's shredding, maybe.
- 1:09:08When the car was low and looked so sick, maybe it was like 10
- 1:09:12mile an hour slower. Yeah, for me, maybe you know
- 1:09:16that. Maybe that's just my preference,
- 1:09:17but like I prefer that. I like the.
- 1:09:19Videos. Yeah, those are the videos I go
- 1:09:21to if someone talks about that show or like the like, the cars
- 1:09:24like that were low, like at Osaka Docks or just like just
- 1:09:27kind of like all of that era. And obviously it's an opinion
- 1:09:30thing, but yeah, 100%. I think it's, I think it's like
- 1:09:33literally textbook evolution, right?
- 1:09:35Like FD, Yeah, right. I was watching one of the early
- 1:09:40Fd's where I think Ken Gucci still had the Mustang.
- 1:09:43It was like, oh. I don't know.
- 1:09:46It was a G4TV. Yeah, episode.
- 1:09:48Like a 405, the cars ranged from like an S2000.
- 1:09:54Yeah. Yeah, 4A GE like Corolla AKAT.
- 1:09:59And then a Viper, yeah, Viper. And and I think that was the
- 1:10:03Viper was Sam Hubernet, Yeah. So I feel like that Viper was a
- 1:10:09equivocal part of drifting evolution because it was the
- 1:10:13fastest car there. Aside from that, Reese Mill and
- 1:10:16GTO and don't think I know a lot about the history.
- 1:10:20I just know this. One I was in here like, damn,
- 1:10:21Carl. I just know this one episode,
- 1:10:24but go on. But those cars were so
- 1:10:27high-powered, right? And they performed.
- 1:10:29So what is what are what are the competitors gonna do?
- 1:10:32Right. They're gonna be like, ohh, OK,
- 1:10:33well yeah, that performs. So let me up my shit.
- 1:10:36It's obvious. And then it just went up and up.
- 1:10:37Yeah. And.
- 1:10:38Up and, I mean, we ran into this issue even in our Street League
- 1:10:41series, OK, just recently we had.
- 1:10:45Well, we have payouts, which I don't even pay attention to
- 1:10:48that. I wasn't even really aware.
- 1:10:51I just kind of cancelled it out of my head.
- 1:10:53But like we two events ago wasn't so prominent at the last
- 1:10:58event because we kind of tried to crack down on it and
- 1:11:00straighten the guys out. But two St. leagues ago we had
- 1:11:07the Nova clinic day before. And of course, he's talking
- 1:11:11about how to Wick these cars up and grip them up a bunch.
- 1:11:14So then go figure. The next day at Street League,
- 1:11:16all these cars are just gripped up.
- 1:11:19And it's evident because they're having problems turning their
- 1:11:22tires over because, you know, they're typically 400 horsepower
- 1:11:25is cars, 300, maybe 200 and mianas.
- 1:11:28That's nice. That's nice.
- 1:11:30We're seeing guys. We have tire rules, so like the
- 1:11:32cars aren't that gripped up, but like.
- 1:11:35After his clinic, all these guys go start turning, turning knobs
- 1:11:39and stuff, and then they're having problems tandeming
- 1:11:43because they're cars are too gripped up.
- 1:11:45Their cars are too gripped up to chase and make the corrections
- 1:11:48you need to win in chase. And the competition kind of
- 1:11:53sucked, like the driving just wasn't there like normal.
- 1:11:56And it was, it was like, kind of sickening to me because, like.
- 1:12:01I want to see everyone shred. You know, it's it's more of an
- 1:12:04exhibition comp than a real comp.
- 1:12:06So like seeing that kind of transform was very irritating.
- 1:12:12Yeah. And.
- 1:12:12Right in front of you. Yeah.
- 1:12:13So we. Kind of.
- 1:12:14We had to have like essentially a meeting with our drivers and
- 1:12:17like not that day, but we had like a pep talk.
- 1:12:20What do you, what do you say in that situation?
- 1:12:22I think it's like a thing. Like, well, I yell at them and
- 1:12:26and tell them that they didn't look very good.
- 1:12:28Yeah, you know, and they know. You know you can't.
- 1:12:30You know. And then?
- 1:12:31I mean, they're like they're, you know, they all want to do
- 1:12:34well. So like they see their media and
- 1:12:36they're like, man, that doesn't look that good because I'm like
- 1:12:38way shallow there and I shouldn't be.
- 1:12:40Yeah, and then? So you just come and you're
- 1:12:42like, alright guys, you all fucked up.
- 1:12:45That's literally pretty much, yeah, that's literally you.
- 1:12:48If you ran a drift event or or or a series.
- 1:12:51Yeah, guys. You guys all fucking sucked.
- 1:12:54Last round. Yeah, like that.
- 1:12:55Shrunk. Sounded sick.
- 1:12:57That's why you see all the like Still Going semi videos.
- 1:13:01Yeah. So the garage is right, right
- 1:13:04behind a highway. So that's why I occasionally.
- 1:13:05I fucking love it, dude. Yeah, I would probably be
- 1:13:07sitting here like that was. That was a fucking Peterbilt.
- 1:13:10Yeah. One of the best parts about
- 1:13:12driving out here is the trucks. Dude, there were a shit load of
- 1:13:15trucks, but not not to veer away from the topic.
- 1:13:17It's another thing that I've not to make this podcast the car
- 1:13:22show, but literally like I've been having a problem because
- 1:13:25everybody now with. Getting exposure from the
- 1:13:28podcast has an opinion that they want to give me.
- 1:13:31Oh yeah, that's right. And so me being me, I like to
- 1:13:34always make sure I'm listening. You never know what somebody
- 1:13:36can, what piece of information somebody could give you.
- 1:13:39But at the same time, if you get so many fucking opinions and you
- 1:13:44try every single fucking one, you're never going to just do
- 1:13:47what you want to do and what works for you.
- 1:13:50Which I think is important. Yeah, you'll get a lot of
- 1:13:54opinions from like false experience.
- 1:13:56Yes. And like, you never know, people
- 1:13:58like to like, I mean it happened in the forum days, like, yeah,
- 1:14:01everyone that's read every forum post now is like the like lead
- 1:14:06mechanic on that car that's ever existed outside of like the OEM.
- 1:14:11So yeah, that exists within everything.
- 1:14:14So like, there's that person that it feels like they need to
- 1:14:17speak up and tell you what to do.
- 1:14:18Like there's no replacement for. How often you guys go for like
- 1:14:21actual football, actual experience, experience.
- 1:14:24Yeah, yeah, the football, yeah, Like seat time is will always
- 1:14:30like reign supreme or like even SIM time, like that's.
- 1:14:33Are you guys a SIM type of? I was doing some eye racing but
- 1:14:37not drifting stuff I was doing. Yeah, I just some a set of stuff
- 1:14:42I should honestly like. I like playing, but just like
- 1:14:45honestly, I like skating more. So with my free time, I'm like I
- 1:14:50could be out in the garage or I could be skating.
- 1:14:52I play probably more in the winter.
- 1:14:54I enjoy it and I definitely felt like it's helped with some bad
- 1:14:58habits that I've had. I can definitely tell with even
- 1:15:02with like tandem stuff like, I definitely feel more comfortable
- 1:15:04in tandem through that as far as like pushing up on people and
- 1:15:07things like, I feel like it's definitely a very useful tool,
- 1:15:10but it is definitely like still a little detached from.
- 1:15:14It's actually driving. Yeah, it's.
- 1:15:16It's. A tool for sure.
- 1:15:16For sure. Feel like a lot of hand eye
- 1:15:18stuff. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:19It all helps. I feel like what a lot of people
- 1:15:22the problem is, and I have. I was telling you about this.
- 1:15:25I have a friend of mine. His name's Ethan.
- 1:15:27Damn, I'm. Just getting fucking shit on him
- 1:15:30real quick. Sorry buddy.
- 1:15:32But he has a sick S13. It's built really great.
- 1:15:36The Hayes guys built it. It's a really fucking sweet car.
- 1:15:40They did a dope job on it, 400 horsepower, like everybody's.
- 1:15:44Not everybody. But I feel like a lot of people
- 1:15:46could just get in that car and go.
- 1:15:47But he's never really drifted before and I feel like since
- 1:15:50it's so souped up, you don't really know what to do about it.
- 1:15:54And in a Seto, you know you're you're.
- 1:15:57Jiggling the pedal like this a bunch of times.
- 1:15:59And like in the car, I know he's doing it.
- 1:16:01I'm literally telling him to stop letting off because he's
- 1:16:05doing this. And the game, as much as it's a
- 1:16:08good thing, could be a bad thing because it develops the bad
- 1:16:10habits where like you think the car is just gonna automatically.
- 1:16:15Spool up like it doesn't take into that real.
- 1:16:18I feel like that though is easier to correct than just
- 1:16:20trying to teach someone how to do it.
- 1:16:21Period. Yeah, with no SIM.
- 1:16:23Yeah, I mean, regardless. He was drifting.
- 1:16:25Yeah. So I feel like it's easier to
- 1:16:27dial back those bad habits than it is to be like, hey, here is
- 1:16:30how you actually linked. Oh yeah dude.
- 1:16:32Yeah, yeah. So yeah, I feel like that, Yeah.
- 1:16:35Yeah, there's bad habits that can be picked up from the SIM,
- 1:16:37but at the same time, it's like it's better to like.
- 1:16:41Back those down. Yeah, like this is an instance
- 1:16:43where it's OK to overdo it. Yeah, and bring it back instead
- 1:16:46of, like false confidence. Go out the first time in your
- 1:16:49car and put it in the wall and you're like, well no dialing it
- 1:16:52back from that cuz it's. Yeah, that that is true.
- 1:16:57That is, yeah. That's that's very, very, very
- 1:16:59cuz yeah, now that I think about it, I mean something that I
- 1:17:02don't really give him credit for is that his progression was so
- 1:17:04fast. Yeah, they do that.
- 1:17:06I mean like that's something I've.
- 1:17:07Like, yeah. Like, yeah, we have another
- 1:17:08close friend of ours, yeah. Have you seen it too?
- 1:17:10Yeah, it's. Crazy.
- 1:17:11It's like the progression is just remember we had, we had him
- 1:17:14on the podcast and we're talking about how long he's been
- 1:17:16drifting and he's like, yeah, I got the car in November and I'm
- 1:17:19thinking like we're talking about years ago, literally
- 1:17:21fucking this past November. Yeah, and he's out there doing
- 1:17:24front course tree turn like. I love seeing like kids get it
- 1:17:29like that early because like they didn't have the years of
- 1:17:32like having one drift event every two or three months.
- 1:17:35Yeah, like not having that opportunity.
- 1:17:37So like, I loved like seeing that because like, there's that
- 1:17:41like kind of like, I don't know. For me it's like a fire and like
- 1:17:43a next generation and that they're really excited about it.
- 1:17:46So it's like really cool. But then I think kind of like
- 1:17:49the like opposite end of that where like they end up like
- 1:17:53buying old drift cars that are like really hooked up.
- 1:17:59Ohh yeah. Yeah, it's.
- 1:18:00Yeah, we have a ton of that too. Like when like when we were like
- 1:18:03Derek and I were you know, first starting like we were, you had
- 1:18:07to build your car because like drift cars like just didn't
- 1:18:09exist out there. Like you could find some on the
- 1:18:11forums and stuff, but like, it wasn't just something that you
- 1:18:14could like. Ohh, like I know three people
- 1:18:16right now that all have like cars that are for sale that like
- 1:18:19you could go rip. Yeah.
- 1:18:21But so like, I guess there's just like that natural
- 1:18:23progression that exists. I'll take their names down
- 1:18:26please. I'm still like living in the
- 1:18:28past too with that cuz people will ask me like, yeah, so I got
- 1:18:31this card, it's a ZI got the full GK tech angle kit.
- 1:18:35I was like, did you put it on yet?
- 1:18:38He's like, no, I'm like how about you just don't do that for
- 1:18:40a while. Yeah, just learn how to drive it
- 1:18:43like that and some people will listen.
- 1:18:45But then other people will just throw it all on and.
- 1:18:48Well, some people just have different.
- 1:18:49And I'm thinking, you know what? It this is what I meant by like
- 1:18:51living in the past. Like, I'll tell them they'll be
- 1:18:53like, Oh yeah, just do just like get a 240 and do this.
- 1:18:56And it's like well. You can't really.
- 1:18:57Buy A2. 40 You can't do that anymore, brother.
- 1:19:00Yeah, that's a different time period that doesn't exist
- 1:19:02anymore. You are been gone dude.
- 1:19:04Oh, I haven't had to buy a car in a while, you know, I mean,
- 1:19:07like, so that's where, like, I'm buying like, like used parts for
- 1:19:11my car nowadays. Bro, I'm like.
- 1:19:14Good. I'm just like, wow, they're that
- 1:19:16much now. Yeah.
- 1:19:17That's I was like, I really wish I would have, like, kept some of
- 1:19:19that stuff. I kind of like just discarded.
- 1:19:22We're we're starting to hoard Nissan parts because Nissan
- 1:19:25finally just realized that they could like, quadruple the price
- 1:19:28of things and get away with it. So now we're like, I'm not going
- 1:19:31to say the part on here, but we're just like grabbing like,
- 1:19:33I'm like, oh, that price hasn't changed yet.
- 1:19:35Order fucking five of them and just keep them here.
- 1:19:37Yeah, yeah, because it's it. They're going to skyrocket soon,
- 1:19:39like. That.
- 1:19:41You know, yeah, I mean. You're a little stash there,
- 1:19:44Yeah. I mean, that's always gonna
- 1:19:45exist with like the popularity of it, like, you know, rising as
- 1:19:48fast as it has. Like there's more people, so
- 1:19:50there's less parts, there's less cars, plus they're aging out,
- 1:19:53like. So there's a lot of those
- 1:19:54things. So I'm almost happy people are.
- 1:19:56They feel like two 40s are too much money and good.
- 1:19:58Stop buying. But there's now.
- 1:20:00Now what I like to well, I what I like to see now too is like,
- 1:20:04oh OK, the trunk on an S13, the Hatch, the privacy cover has a
- 1:20:08little dowel piece. That goes in there.
- 1:20:11Oh, I know you're talking, right.
- 1:20:12So that became a little hard to access, right?
- 1:20:15Now what? You're gonna say?
- 1:20:15Yeah. So now what was the solution?
- 1:20:17Three print. Let me fucking 3D print that.
- 1:20:19Yeah, that is cool. Yeah, I mean, there like people
- 1:20:21are coming up with new solutions, Huns, to keep it
- 1:20:24going. And I think that that's an
- 1:20:25important part. I mean, even though you're even,
- 1:20:27we're making like weird little things where we're like throttle
- 1:20:30cable bracket that no one ever made.
- 1:20:31Make it. That thing is sweet.
- 1:20:32Don't let him know that's you. You're doing cool shit.
- 1:20:35You guys have a turbo line kit, like a power steering kit?
- 1:20:38Yeah, like we were tired all the like.
- 1:20:40You know, fucking speed shop looking turbo line kits, right?
- 1:20:44So we're like, what? Can we just make these black?
- 1:20:46Like, is it that hard? Yeah, it doesn't need to be like
- 1:20:48a brush finish with like dimple dye like, yeah, you're.
- 1:20:51Doing fucking too much. Yeah, and like fucking red and
- 1:20:54blue and fittings. Like, no one wants that shit.
- 1:20:56Yeah, and I. Like, keep it chill.
- 1:20:57I'm still I'm. I'm also still kind of, like,
- 1:21:00shocked that this makes not as much as I thought it did because
- 1:21:05I was like, yeah, it probably makes like 400 or something like
- 1:21:08that, like a normal number to everyone nowadays, because a
- 1:21:10fucking Kia SUV has 400. Yeah, but like, that's dude.
- 1:21:14That's the perfect #3. I know.
- 1:21:16And like, that's crazy to me because you go watch videos of
- 1:21:19Derek driving and you're like. Yeah, yeah, but that's.
- 1:21:22I mean, it's definitely a foot down car, yeah.
- 1:21:25And like, I mean, I learned a lot of that from DK.
- 1:21:27Like it was one of those things where he was driving arc sevens
- 1:21:29and that sort of thing. So I was like, that's who I was
- 1:21:31following like. All right, I need to go this
- 1:21:34fast into this corner, like that sort of thing.
- 1:21:36So like that helped me significantly.
- 1:21:38And then it being like a little bit lower powered, like, I don't
- 1:21:40know, like I'm not breaking axles or drive train stuff,
- 1:21:43that's what I'm. Thinking of.
- 1:21:44So, like, I mean, it happens. Like, I mean, I messed up a
- 1:21:48trans last weekend, but that right, We're but.
- 1:21:51Like it's it's one of those things, like, I mean I had that
- 1:21:53transmission in there for three seasons.
- 1:21:55Yeah, that's the one that's, it's lasted the longest since
- 1:21:57I've owned the car. Yeah.
- 1:21:58So like. That's always going to happen.
- 1:22:00So like I and I still don't feel like I'm driving that car at the
- 1:22:04potential it could be driven at at that horsepower even.
- 1:22:07So I'm like I could raise the horsepower, but like.
- 1:22:10You'd rather raise the skill level I can match?
- 1:22:12Absolutely, yeah. Yeah, 100.
- 1:22:13Percent like, I definitely feel like there's still like, things
- 1:22:17that I need to learn in that car.
- 1:22:18For sure that's like a perfect quote for what I wish the newer
- 1:22:22drivers would understand. I know you wish they did it too,
- 1:22:25but. Because, like, don't show up at
- 1:22:26the shop with like a full GK tech.
- 1:22:28Installed wrong and I'm like, all right, well here's we got to
- 1:22:32charge you this much cuz we got to take everything out,
- 1:22:34reinstall it all, put it back on.
- 1:22:35But can you blame them? That's like the effort that they
- 1:22:37got, the spirit, kind of they're on the right.
- 1:22:39I mean, like, I don't. They're doing their own blame.
- 1:22:42Them because they're going on YouTube and they're just seeing
- 1:22:44Adam, LZ put all this shit on his car and then they're like,
- 1:22:46oh, I need to get all that. But it's like, you don't need to
- 1:22:48get any of it, honestly. So yeah.
- 1:22:51Well, it's a different exposure, you know.
- 1:22:52Yeah, that's what I was about to say.
- 1:22:53Like we were talking about. They don't know.
- 1:22:55You don't need that. Yeah.
- 1:22:56Yeah, yeah, They don't know any. Better nowadays you they, you
- 1:22:59know, everyone, it's all out there.
- 1:23:01So they're like, oh, if it's there, that means I probably
- 1:23:03have to have it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:23:05And that consumerism like mentality where they're just
- 1:23:09like, I just need to get all this stuff.
- 1:23:10Yeah, this is for my car and you have a whole catalog.
- 1:23:13Like I need everything on the catalog.
- 1:23:14Which is like. You know, the businessman of me
- 1:23:17is like, well that sounds good, but then like the drifter of me
- 1:23:19is like, fuck all that. Like just use the stock knuckles
- 1:23:23and see how much you suck 1st and then like go from there.
- 1:23:25Like eventually, obviously you're going to end up getting
- 1:23:27knuckles, you're going to do something.
- 1:23:29But like, it took me years. Exactly.
- 1:23:31To try. I had stock angle on all my cars
- 1:23:35at two 40s. First, yeah, stock angle,
- 1:23:37everything. But I had an Sr. yeah, so I
- 1:23:39thought that that was cool. Same.
- 1:23:41And then it is. And then like it is, dude.
- 1:23:44Little did I know that that $2000 motor.
- 1:23:47That came with a. Bunch of shit was going to be
- 1:23:51like, I'm never going to have an Sr. again.
- 1:23:53Dude, someone came in the other day.
- 1:23:54They were, it was like, it was like some kids, parents, right?
- 1:23:58And they're like, yeah, we bought him an S13 convertible.
- 1:24:00This like we got him an Sr. They bought.
- 1:24:02Wait, they bought him did. Yeah, it's like his first car I
- 1:24:04bought them. It could be a girl and.
- 1:24:06They're like and they're like, yeah, we got him an SR20.
- 1:24:08I was like. And everyone in the shop, we all
- 1:24:10look at each other. We're like, where'd you get it
- 1:24:12from? And they're like one of the
- 1:24:13depots. I was like, we're all like, what
- 1:24:14did you pay? Because we just.
- 1:24:16I wanted to know. Yeah, yeah, yeah, We have the
- 1:24:18paperwork right here. I was like, yeah, I want to see
- 1:24:19that this shit was $7000, no 6 to $7000.
- 1:24:25Is that what it is? Out.
- 1:24:26Nope. It was like an like a no.
- 1:24:28It was an S13 dude. It was S13 dude, red top for
- 1:24:31seven. I swear to God it was sick.
- 1:24:33I think it was. Had a disco potato on it
- 1:24:35already? It.
- 1:24:36Was hard. To see.
- 1:24:37It was probably stock, but. Twin discs.
- 1:24:40Yeah, it's never stock. It's always some bullshit on
- 1:24:42there. Yeah, definitely.
- 1:24:43A Twin Disc $7000. So they're dropping it off in a
- 1:24:45couple weeks for us to check it out.
- 1:24:47Is it, is it? How is it out here to try to get
- 1:24:50stuff like that? Do you guys have to go far like
- 1:24:52let's say you needed? Do you guys have depots?
- 1:24:54We just do rotaries. There's like 3 cents over.
- 1:24:57There, I noticed. Yeah.
- 1:24:58I feel like rotaries are almost well.
- 1:25:00They're bad. They're gone up too.
- 1:25:02Yeah, really. Everything is so like, I just
- 1:25:04put a new motor in my car. Like the first motor that I had
- 1:25:07in it lasted for 10 years. Ooh, that's sick.
- 1:25:11Yeah, that's pretty sick. Hell yeah.
- 1:25:13Before I get too excited about it, yeah, OK.
- 1:25:15I had to pull it apart a couple times because it got a little
- 1:25:18too hot. I got a little greedy on track,
- 1:25:20maybe a couple times. I heard that's a Rotary problem.
- 1:25:22Yeah, like. Maybe melted coolant seals and
- 1:25:24stuff but like it always would go back in and then it just got
- 1:25:27to the point where like it needed to be replaced.
- 1:25:29So I ended U just getting like a like a new Mazda like.
- 1:25:35Engine. Short block, yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:37Short block, basically, yeah. Yeah, so like, I just had that
- 1:25:40sent over, like they like sent it over or whatever.
- 1:25:44And then? In a box like that.
- 1:25:45Yeah, yeah, just like. It came in a crate and
- 1:25:48legitimately like it like that. That's the kind of box a motor
- 1:25:51would show up. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:53Yeah. That's the cool part about
- 1:25:54Mazda. Yeah, like, yeah, I got it from
- 1:25:56Mazda, Japan. They sent it to the US and then
- 1:25:59they got sent to my house and I think I paid.
- 1:26:01At the time, maybe like $5000, but that was like a brand new.
- 1:26:06Brand new motor like it's not something.
- 1:26:08That sounds like some shit I would do.
- 1:26:09Yeah, that is literally something that you would do.
- 1:26:11Yeah, it was either that or like spin around the same amount on a
- 1:26:14mystery motor that such and such as Speedshot put together and
- 1:26:19they're the best in the Rotary business.
- 1:26:21And Okay, like we've all heard those stories a million times
- 1:26:24and. You have a million horsepower
- 1:26:26drag cars, like, whatever. I mean, that's with everything.
- 1:26:29Like, yeah, if it involves building engines, you're kind of
- 1:26:32taking a risk, no? Matter what?
- 1:26:34Yeah, I mean, I could have picked up a motor, pulled it all
- 1:26:37apart and then looked at it and been like, OK, that was actually
- 1:26:40decent. Or I've been like, OK, I'm
- 1:26:41actually back at square one. Yeah, so I was like that took a
- 1:26:46lot of variables out of the situation and.
- 1:26:47I was well worth it. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:26:49I do it again. A lot of times that motor's been
- 1:26:51great and I feel like you have you're you're beyond that now
- 1:26:55like I feel like you you went through some both of you have
- 1:26:59gone through some trials and tribulations where you learned
- 1:27:02all right I'm just going to have to fucking yeah it's not I mean.
- 1:27:06It's like the same thing as when, you know, when you're
- 1:27:10earlier days. I was like, you know, we'd be
- 1:27:12buying used tires. Yep.
- 1:27:13And it's like, don't, don't, don't look at, don't look at me
- 1:27:17anymore. Yeah, don't look at me.
- 1:27:19So it's like back in the day. That's what I would buy it.
- 1:27:22And it's like, oh cool, Oh yeah. And now I'm like, man, what if I
- 1:27:25just bought new every time Be better off?
- 1:27:29Driving me. Better to change and it would
- 1:27:30last longer. Yeah, believe it.
- 1:27:32Or just like, But you think you're saving.
- 1:27:34Yeah, you know, money. All the time I was telling Carl.
- 1:27:36On the car here I was like. Especially when, like back then,
- 1:27:39none of your boys or anyone you knew how to tire machine.
- 1:27:42So you're getting, you're paying for that on top of your cheap
- 1:27:44tire. And then you got to do it twice
- 1:27:46as much because they don't last as long.
- 1:27:49No. And then you get to the track
- 1:27:50and you realize there was a nail in one.
- 1:27:51Yeah. And you're like Okay there was
- 1:27:55when I met me and Frankie really have only been friends for a few
- 1:27:58years now. And like in those few years,
- 1:28:00Frankie has been a good and bad influence on me, one of which
- 1:28:04was the tire thing, because I would always be like, yeah, I
- 1:28:06got a couple. He would bring used tires to the
- 1:28:08shop and get around the person you were just, that's me, him.
- 1:28:11That's why he was like, shit, yeah, I'm going to have to out
- 1:28:14myself now before I get outed by Frankie.
- 1:28:16And he would drop the shit off and whatnot, and then me and
- 1:28:18Chris would be in the back. And we're like, wait, I took
- 1:28:21these off. Are these the good ones or the
- 1:28:22bad ones? Dude, that's how it was,
- 1:28:26unfortunately. I grabbed his tire and I fucking
- 1:28:29throw. I'm like, I'll do these real
- 1:28:30quick. I throw it up fucking like.
- 1:28:32Tarantulas and shit come out. Well, I don't really.
- 1:28:35I'm like bro. Get this garbage out of here.
- 1:28:38I'm like talking. I'm like Chris, handle your boy.
- 1:28:40You got a. Vacuum your tire machine
- 1:28:42afterwards. I love that and we try to keep
- 1:28:44the shop clean. Shop is very clean.
- 1:28:47And then, like, I get this tire filled with mud and shit.
- 1:28:49I'm like, bro, come on, it's always some bullshit.
- 1:28:53But if. But you learned eventually,
- 1:28:54yeah, because I just The goal is right.
- 1:28:58You want to just not be fucking switching tires all the damn
- 1:29:01time. Like I want to be on grid as
- 1:29:03long as possible or not grid but I want to be on the track as
- 1:29:06long as. As much as you don't seem to
- 1:29:08take people's advice, you do end up taking it I it takes you old
- 1:29:12you this time and time again. Takes you a minute.
- 1:29:15I am pretty stubborn because I want to believe that my way will
- 1:29:19work for me. Yeah, And then I'll go do it.
- 1:29:22And then it's wrong like he'll be, and then I'll go back and
- 1:29:27then guess what? I won't tell Frankie that I'm
- 1:29:30doing it that way, the right way, that he that, he said.
- 1:29:33But I'm going to do it, Chris. Chris told me that you probably
- 1:29:36when you were bringing the tires to the shop all muddy.
- 1:29:38He's like, don't worry, he'll figure he'll figure it out.
- 1:29:42And it's like, yeah, like it was like on the way here with my
- 1:29:44truck every time a noise happens.
- 1:29:46Yo-yo, what is that? It's the exhaust.
- 1:29:49I don't know, man. That didn't sound like the
- 1:29:51exhaust. I'm like Carl.
- 1:29:53This truck has almost 300,000 miles on it.
- 1:29:54I know what it is and like you kept telling me.
- 1:29:56Like, I don't know, man. Now when we hit a bomb and it
- 1:29:58makes a fucking wild noise, I'm just sitting there and I'm
- 1:30:00looking at Frankie like. I'm like bro, I know you think
- 1:30:05you know, but you don't. It's that I I know my car meme.
- 1:30:10Yeah, it's like buried in the needle.
- 1:30:12I know my ride, but like, Speaking of tires, like, I don't
- 1:30:17know OK with Frankie, for example, I I had a I have
- 1:30:20conversations with Josh about random things.
- 1:30:23So Josh deletes Front Street. You guys know him?
- 1:30:25He's fucking, yeah. They're the same people.
- 1:30:27They're the same person. Well, in some ways.
- 1:30:29In some ways, Frankie has hair. Sorry, Josh, No, not with.
- 1:30:32Not with car style anymore, but yeah.
- 1:30:34But like with just how their attitudes are and he's Frankie's
- 1:30:39been gone out of drifting for a few years.
- 1:30:41And in those few years like you know people have specific tires
- 1:30:46that work better for them, for drifting and like ones last
- 1:30:49longer than others. Ones don't delam than others.
- 1:30:52And I happen to look at yours, Derek.
- 1:30:54And I was like Iron Man's. I heard good things about these.
- 1:30:57Like that's that's something that has changed from me using
- 1:31:02my used tires. I feel like I notice their
- 1:31:05tires. I know the Iron Man's.
- 1:31:06Yeah, those are like others tires.
- 1:31:08What do you do? What do you do you have?
- 1:31:10No any input on that like in terms of tires?
- 1:31:14So those are the first times that I've used them.
- 1:31:15Uh huh. So are they bad?
- 1:31:17Please tell me. No, no, they they've seen the
- 1:31:21last like really long, which is cool.
- 1:31:23But I hate the tread pattern. That sounds really.
- 1:31:26No, no. Like tractor tires.
- 1:31:28That's fine. I'm really so wack.
- 1:31:30Like so like. They're great, but the way they
- 1:31:32look, dude. That ain't it.
- 1:31:34But no, no, honestly, like they've been great.
- 1:31:37They didn't delam. They held up for a long time.
- 1:31:40I mean they lasted most of the weekend in Kentucky.
- 1:31:44I drove all the way back on them.
- 1:31:46Honestly, I wasn't gonna drive back on them cuz they were so
- 1:31:49flat spotted from like long E brake drags.
- 1:31:52Kentucky Appalachia. Yeah.
- 1:31:55Yeah, yeah. That's a whole another realm we
- 1:31:56gotta get into. So yeah, just like there was a
- 1:31:59lot of like E brake drags on the downhill.
- 1:32:01So like, once you're going like 55 or 60, it feels like you have
- 1:32:05a flat spotted, like skateboard wheel and this is like, yeah,
- 1:32:09yeah. So, but no, like, I mean, I'm
- 1:32:12pretty much down to run. I mean every season, not every
- 1:32:16season, but like from years to years it changes.
- 1:32:18Like one year it's Velino, one year it's Kendo, one year it's
- 1:32:22Falcon. You know, depends.
- 1:32:23On what you can get. Really.
- 1:32:25Yeah. And then also you know all these
- 1:32:27tire companies change their their tires too so.
- 1:32:31It's like, oh, this was, you know, like the KR20 was really
- 1:32:34good, but now the K KR20A, I don't like it as much, you know,
- 1:32:39and. Yeah, they change everything and
- 1:32:40then all the brands just renamed themselves.
- 1:32:42Because Iron Man just changed. Oh, I don't even.
- 1:32:44It's like. What did it?
- 1:32:46Yeah, I think it's like it on a Gen. 2 now or something.
- 1:32:49I just I I didn't personally see that, but I saw someone make a
- 1:32:51post about it like Oh yeah, these as good as the old ones.
- 1:32:54Like I used to always use like a zennis for like the front and
- 1:32:57like sometime the rear. And then I would go to like
- 1:33:00Advans on the fronts. And now, like, I can't get those
- 1:33:02in my sizes. So now I'm on some Dick Nova.
- 1:33:05Oh and yeah. I like they're super cheap.
- 1:33:08They like were great for steer tires like and I care about
- 1:33:12this, but they have a cool look. They got.
- 1:33:16They got the truck pattern like I noticed.
- 1:33:18For me, like that matters. That's mainly a front tire thing
- 1:33:21for me, Yeah. Yeah, you.
- 1:33:23Can see, but the rear I'm like I feel.
- 1:33:24The same, Yeah, yeah, the rear. I don't give a fuck.
- 1:33:27You have fucking. Stop, dude.
- 1:33:29I'll put the cheapest shit for the longest time.
- 1:33:32For me it was just what's the cheapest tire that's not
- 1:33:34complete garbage? Absolutely.
- 1:33:36Yeah, that was that was pretty much on S drives in the front.
- 1:33:39No, no, no, no, Not every of those.
- 1:33:41I was on S drives for a while, that's that was.
- 1:33:44The last tire I put on before my car broke was Dunlap.
- 1:33:47De Reza's Yeah, because everyone was like, oh, these are good.
- 1:33:49I was like, with her, I used the money.
- 1:33:51I hope they're good. I used to go to the auto cross
- 1:33:53pages because they're tire reviews where because they're
- 1:33:57always. So my my thing is like, ohh, I
- 1:34:00want that initial bite. I want that consistent grip and
- 1:34:04like autocross people will literally nerd out.
- 1:34:08Yeah about that. Like my roommate is one of them.
- 1:34:10He's a autocro. Both of them are.
- 1:34:12And they'll get all that information and I will just
- 1:34:16politely look over yeah and get that information from them.
- 1:34:19That's how I knew the RE 71 is a very, very sticky tire.
- 1:34:23Like unbelievably sticky but wears fast.
- 1:34:25Yeah, the Falcon was great. Doesn't really wear nearly as
- 1:34:28fast. It doesn't DLAM.
- 1:34:30But then like, I don't know. As time goes on again, that new
- 1:34:33age thought, like I have acceleros on now, which I
- 1:34:37thought were gonna be on my rear.
- 1:34:39But I like the tread banners. I put them on the front.
- 1:34:41I literally can relate to you when you said that.
- 1:34:43I hope you didn't feel. Weird when you said that.
- 1:34:44Not at all. Because like stand by that it
- 1:34:46was. It's in the front now and I'm
- 1:34:47like these aren't as sticky as the RA 71, but yet it feels
- 1:34:50better to it's. Not as sticky as 71 but it but
- 1:34:53it still it feels header to drift.
- 1:34:55Are you talking about the R or the Rs?
- 1:34:58How long ago the oh, the RE 71. Yeah, it's the RI.
- 1:35:03Know what the Rs is? That's shit is.
- 1:35:05Those are new. That is crazy sticky.
- 1:35:08Yeah my, my, the same roommate I was looking at your 996 just cuz
- 1:35:11he has a 996. Doesn't look like that though,
- 1:35:15and they're on RE71RS. Oh, wow.
- 1:35:17Yeah. That thing is, this is
- 1:35:18Bridgestone super sticky tire, Yeah.
- 1:35:20I remember I had those on STI that when it was RE.
- 1:35:23Re REO 70, something like that, you came on Sdis?
- 1:35:27Not that one. It was after that, maybe around
- 1:35:292010 to 2012 era. It was like a newer version bro
- 1:35:34that. Shit was crazy.
- 1:35:36Yeah, Yeah, it's a, I mean, it's a grip car, but very, very
- 1:35:39sticky tire. But they wear fast like that's
- 1:35:41just like auto cross people being like.
- 1:35:44No, that's a good idea to have a season out of these and then
- 1:35:47they take it off the car and it's like, yeah, damn, those are
- 1:35:49barely even warm bro. No, I mean, that's a good idea
- 1:35:51because I know a lot of times I would look at guys at road race,
- 1:35:55like FDS. Yeah.
- 1:35:56And I would like, how are they keeping these cars cool?
- 1:35:58So like, now I'm like looking at ducting.
- 1:36:01I'm looking at like swirl pots for like different things or
- 1:36:04even like fuel slosh for the tank.
- 1:36:06Like, I'm like, OK, these guys are using these cars very hard.
- 1:36:09So like if they're lasting like full like road race days or like
- 1:36:13grip days, you know, around a circuit, then like I'm trying to
- 1:36:16apply some of those parts to my car so I can stay out there
- 1:36:19longer. If they're out there for, you
- 1:36:20know, 3045 minute sessions, yeah, or whatever.
- 1:36:23Like, I should be able to stay out for, you know, a 1015 minute
- 1:36:27or 20 minute like drift session. So like, it's proven already.
- 1:36:30Yeah. Like they already tested it for
- 1:36:32you like. What is like the cooling issue
- 1:36:35with those cars? I mean, it's just Rotary stuff.
- 1:36:38They're extremely hot, OK? They're two stroke.
- 1:36:40Yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess that's what it is.
- 1:36:42So high, high Revs, Just a lot of heat.
- 1:36:45Yeah, like a lot of things get just like.
- 1:36:47I've heard people complain like, yeah, I was stuck in traffic and
- 1:36:49my shit overheated. I'm like what?
- 1:36:51That's like an idiot move then. OK, yeah, thanks.
- 1:36:54I was, I was confused. I'm like what?
- 1:36:56Like? I mean any proper, I mean my
- 1:36:59that race car right there under the cover.
- 1:37:00I don't have a fan on it. OK.
- 1:37:03Yeah. And it doesn't do that.
- 1:37:04Yeah, it probably never. Probably.
- 1:37:06Used radiator and it's made to be going, yeah, around a track.
- 1:37:09So, like, where it's taking technically necessary, yeah.
- 1:37:12Yeah, yeah, I always wondered that shit that the not now we're
- 1:37:17gonna. I want to circle back to
- 1:37:19Appalachia. I definitely just because that
- 1:37:20shit. I don't know if I've seen
- 1:37:24anything in the US, something like that, where it's like a
- 1:37:26Street Drift event. Yeah, dude, that was.
- 1:37:29What was that experience like? And like, how involved were you
- 1:37:31guys? Because like we talked about
- 1:37:34drift indie, but we didn't really get the full like I know
- 1:37:36you didn't found it, but you, I guess you do work for them or
- 1:37:39yeah, yeah, OK. So you guys were like kind of
- 1:37:41involved with this whole thing that just happened, I guess.
- 1:37:44Yeah, that was. So I met a guy from racing and
- 1:37:48hill climbs down that way. OK I.
- 1:37:51Feel like that was like auto had an investment.
- 1:37:53Connection with that. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:55Yeah, and then? He wanted to essentially bring
- 1:38:00drifting down there in that area, yeah.
- 1:38:03And then we moved forward with it.
- 1:38:05And then and it looked like it. Worked.
- 1:38:07I got Edgar from Drift Indy, you know, involved.
- 1:38:10And then that's pretty much what got all the.
- 1:38:13Was Reese Marin involved in this at all?
- 1:38:15Because. He no, no, no.
- 1:38:16He just came along. OK, yeah, he was hanging out for
- 1:38:18the. Weekend, OK?
- 1:38:19Because I feel like he fucking talked to me about this shit
- 1:38:22like two years ago and I kind of was just like.
- 1:38:25You know in your in one ear, out the other.
- 1:38:27But I was like it sounds cool, like it sounded like he had
- 1:38:29someone with similar thing. Like there was a guy with an
- 1:38:32area and some of it was like a road that they wanted to do,
- 1:38:37drive like I guess racing on or something and then like.
- 1:38:40I guess it never came to fruition, but then we saw that
- 1:38:42could pop up and we're like, oh OK, maybe this has something.
- 1:38:45To do that probably explains why he was like, I gotta go to this.
- 1:38:47Yeah, Yeah. So maybe he was like he was
- 1:38:50amped. Yeah.
- 1:38:51So amped that that again everybody was yet another good
- 1:38:55it could never happen in the tri-state area.
- 1:38:57Yeah, moment. But how did how did it run for
- 1:38:59you guys? How was it?
- 1:39:00I mean, that was our first time ever doing that.
- 1:39:02So like, I'd say about as good as it could go.
- 1:39:06I mean everyone. Came out alive, so that's good,
- 1:39:09good dude. Yeah, See the videos and shit.
- 1:39:12I would shit up. I would simply shit myself.
- 1:39:15The videos are sick, but like, it really was pretty scary fast.
- 1:39:20Yeah. So it was absolutely yeah
- 1:39:22fucking yeah. I mean, I was watching the
- 1:39:24videos, like I only knew some people that were there.
- 1:39:28Barely anyone from that I saw, but I recognized your car.
- 1:39:31Yeah, I'm like, I hope these guys know how to drive because
- 1:39:33if you're like, if they're just used to track shit and then
- 1:39:36they're getting put on this, like, yeah.
- 1:39:38They're handpicked. Yeah, OK.
- 1:39:40That's our Street League guys, most of our Street League guys,
- 1:39:43and they're all like all of our Street League guys, are like
- 1:39:47vetted drivers, OK? They're like it's a close knit
- 1:39:50like family in a way so. They kind, they're just good
- 1:39:55dudes like all around like they we've been kind of like they get
- 1:39:58it mentoring and vetting them for now for this is the third
- 1:40:02year street league and you know we didn't allow every driver to
- 1:40:07come. We kind of picked a smaller
- 1:40:09group yeah but mostly the more advanced guys makes sense.
- 1:40:14So we had the best group possible, you know.
- 1:40:16We didn't have any random, you know.
- 1:40:21Wild cards that we're not familiar with driving the the
- 1:40:23mountains so like we have guys that we can trust are the not
- 1:40:26to. Yeah, like the ones where you
- 1:40:28don't have to fucking watch them.
- 1:40:30Yeah, you know, like we had our drivers meeting and told them
- 1:40:33that, you know, how, you know, the seriousness of, you know,
- 1:40:36the hill and how it can bite and whatnot and yeah, it.
- 1:40:40Was definitely very high consequence.
- 1:40:41Like, I mean, we all got there like with an expectation of
- 1:40:44like, OK, this is gonna be like, you know, maybe a little heavy,
- 1:40:48but we'll figure it out and then like.
- 1:40:50Climbing up the first sight lap, you're like, you're like, you
- 1:40:55know, we did it at speed. So like, no one was like
- 1:40:58drifting really. But like we like lined all the
- 1:41:00cars. We had like a pace car in front
- 1:41:02and then like a car in the rear and like, we're doing it at
- 1:41:05speed and like, you're like, I'm clicking up a gear, yeah.
- 1:41:08In a skinny. Yeah, yeah, like.
- 1:41:10No run off. Yeah, I'm grabbing another gear
- 1:41:13and it's like. Cliff face and guardrail.
- 1:41:15And the guardrail looks pretty nice right now, honestly.
- 1:41:18Yeah, guardrail looks nice and smooth.
- 1:41:20That Cliff face looks fucking gnarly.
- 1:41:22Yeah. So like, you hit it at speed,
- 1:41:24you know, like do a little clutch kick at like the end of a
- 1:41:28corner, kind of, you know, just like out of it, like slide out
- 1:41:32of it, whatever. And then like on the way back
- 1:41:34down, everyone's like grabbing a handbrake, checking like what,
- 1:41:36like grip levels are like and everything.
- 1:41:38It's deep. So, yeah, yeah, it was like a 7
- 1:41:40or 8% grade in certain spots. I.
- 1:41:42Feel like the video definitely didn't capture that.
- 1:41:44I don't think it captured that. Holy shit.
- 1:41:46It's like someone's like skating a huge, like stair set.
- 1:41:49Yeah, big handrail or big? Gap or whatever.
- 1:41:51It's like, oh that looks sick and but like in real life, that
- 1:41:53shit's in crazy. It's just insane.
- 1:41:55And where was this again? Kentucky like central Eastern
- 1:42:00Kentucky, yeah. Yeah, just like real small town.
- 1:42:02Like we like drove in Corbin, KY on Saturday.
- 1:42:07And it was kind of like a like it's like an hour north.
- 1:42:10Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we we had a street league
- 1:42:12down there at Corbin Arena. Ohh OK on Saturday.
- 1:42:16That was like Friday and Saturday and then the select
- 1:42:20drivers that we picked for the TOG then all met at that other
- 1:42:24location. Yeah, it was like an hour drive
- 1:42:26and we just met in like this small little like country town
- 1:42:29like kind of at the bottom and yeah, like.
- 1:42:33There's a couple parking lots, some gravels, like at a bank,
- 1:42:36like all these spots and like police and fire were there, like
- 1:42:39had it all set up. They had like a food truck there
- 1:42:41for us and everything. Like they're super
- 1:42:43accommodating. Was it was it you guys setting
- 1:42:47it up with the town or was it there was a so drifting.
- 1:42:50So the guy I met, yeah, from the hill climb stuff.
- 1:42:54He has a organization called Back Roads of Appalachia.
- 1:43:00OK. And he is a he organizes
- 1:43:06essentially roads. So like Seca, you know, they'll
- 1:43:10go through him and then he kind of helps secure roads.
- 1:43:13OK. So basically with the with the
- 1:43:14town or or the state, yeah. So he's he's always he's at
- 1:43:17meetings nonstop. I don't know enough about the
- 1:43:20political end of things, but so he pretty much did all the
- 1:43:25legwork for that and then drifted.
- 1:43:28He handles the event side. And dude.
- 1:43:31It was awesome that they like. To do that, it was so fun.
- 1:43:33It was definitely an experience and.
- 1:43:35She's here. Yeah, so I mean, I brought it, I
- 1:43:38brought it up earlier, but I had a trans issue the day before.
- 1:43:41I saw that shit. So I was stayed up, had to drive
- 1:43:45and source of trans and then. Strike my little brother, like
- 1:43:49pulled the trains out of his car.
- 1:43:50Whoa. I put it in my car, like, I
- 1:43:54mean, it's every driver would do it.
- 1:43:55Yeah, you know what I mean? Like, you're there, you're
- 1:43:57broke. You like need to shit to get
- 1:43:59fixed. So and you wanna drive the next
- 1:44:01day in an event that, like you really are motivated to fight or
- 1:44:03fly. Yeah, 100%.
- 1:44:05So like getting there. It was definitely very surreal,
- 1:44:08like it was a very cool experience.
- 1:44:11It was heavy. I mean, it was like the, you
- 1:44:14know, there was. A couple incidents, but like,
- 1:44:18it's part of driving, so like, but it was definitely a road
- 1:44:22that if you didn't respect it and everyone there is learning
- 1:44:26it for the first time and even with like Chelsea being there,
- 1:44:29he was just like, yo, like you guys need to take this very
- 1:44:32seriously. Yeah, so like.
- 1:44:34I feel like this is assuming a lot right now.
- 1:44:36You guys can correct me. I feel like a lot of the people
- 1:44:38that probably went there probably never even seen a
- 1:44:40mountain. But yeah, I mean, to be fair, so
- 1:44:44a lot of our Street League guys have never driven a track
- 1:44:47outside of Killcare, which is our home track.
- 1:44:50Yeah, that's in Dayton. Oh yeah.
- 1:44:52And like a lot of those guys, until the day before at the
- 1:44:56Street League at Corbin Arena have not driven a track besides
- 1:45:00Killcare. Yeah.
- 1:45:01So like to go from that to then a new parking lot track to a
- 1:45:07cliffside mountain. Yeah, you know and you know, but
- 1:45:10then again, at the same time, you know, we've got the
- 1:45:12generation that all those kids are doing the SIM, yeah.
- 1:45:14Yeah, yeah. For sure.
- 1:45:15So like, you know, on the SIM, I think that probably helped
- 1:45:19prepare them immensely on something like that.
- 1:45:22Dude, it's fucking awesome. You guys did that, especially
- 1:45:24for those guys that got to drive.
- 1:45:26And if that's like the new crowd, like younger kids, that's
- 1:45:30main it's mainly the next generation.
- 1:45:32And it's a high level of trust. Yeah, like, again.
- 1:45:36Like that event could have with one bad Apple, bro.
- 1:45:40Yeah, could have. Fucked up the whole bar.
- 1:45:42I mean, like there's a group chat with all the guys that
- 1:45:45drove that event and like seeing the camaraderie after the event,
- 1:45:50that's like, they all, like, felt like they went to war
- 1:45:53together. I mean, it was like like
- 1:45:56literally dudes like, you know, they're, they all know each
- 1:45:58other because they've been driving against each other and
- 1:45:59with each other. Yeah, sharing the same pits.
- 1:46:02But like, after that, it seemed like everyone, that whole
- 1:46:05weekend alone was just like out of town, hanging out partying
- 1:46:09like downtown. So like, everyone seemed to get
- 1:46:12closer and then like, everyone pretty much going to war at that
- 1:46:15toad together. Like, yeah.
- 1:46:17And even in the chat, they all just like, you could see the
- 1:46:19unity, Yeah. And it was like it was cool.
- 1:46:23It's like the next that everyone's drinking and hanging
- 1:46:24out the night before. It's like, all right tomorrow,
- 1:46:26yeah, when we drift on a toe game for the first time.
- 1:46:30Isn't that crazy that, like you you guys are kind of.
- 1:46:34You're responsible now for kind of not, maybe not the word
- 1:46:39grooming is the right word, but you're like aiding the next
- 1:46:43generation, kind of, Yeah, you're like kind of guiding it.
- 1:46:46Like you're a fucking role model.
- 1:46:47Now trying to that's. A.
- 1:46:50You too. You're a role model.
- 1:46:51Yeah, how fucking OK is a. Role model now very.
- 1:46:53Loose term like isn't that wild like to me.
- 1:46:56You guys are role models to me. Like I would love to one day
- 1:46:59have something like this or share a story like you guys I
- 1:47:02feel. Like us, we're just doing
- 1:47:03something that we like. Yeah, if we can help somebody
- 1:47:06else not make a mistake that we made, then like, that feels good
- 1:47:10because it's like, hey, like that sucked.
- 1:47:12You might not listen to me. I didn't listen when I was that
- 1:47:15age, but just in case you do like it would be great like if
- 1:47:18you didn't have to go through that hardship, but then
- 1:47:20sometimes like maybe it's necessary.
- 1:47:22Yeah. So like it's it feels good to
- 1:47:24create like what Derek was saying, like everyone in that
- 1:47:26group chat or whatever, like created that like camaraderie in
- 1:47:29that community because like it makes it feel like it's going in
- 1:47:32a like a positive way rather than it going towards like.
- 1:47:36A like takeover or like some other like, well, like so many
- 1:47:40other things that you could have picked, like getting a
- 1:47:42generation like that to help promote, like what I think is
- 1:47:46proper drifting. You know, instead of just a
- 1:47:49bunch of old heads trying to beat it into the younger
- 1:47:51generation. Like that goes a long way when
- 1:47:53you have younger kids now sharing the same ideas that they
- 1:47:56can pass on to guys their age or even now the next next
- 1:48:00generation. So like, they're not.
- 1:48:02I think it goes a lot, you know, it goes a long way to try to
- 1:48:05like promote the right thing because the kids driving Street
- 1:48:09League, now, they love it. They don't.
- 1:48:12Their cars aren't built up to the, you know, the moon.
- 1:48:16So like they can enjoy their cars.
- 1:48:18Yeah, without it blowing up. And like, there's so many kids,
- 1:48:21you know, like mentioned earlier, where they think they
- 1:48:23need to throw the whole catalog at their car.
- 1:48:25And that doesn't normally just mean suspension anymore.
- 1:48:28It means like LS3 crate motors and stuff, you know?
- 1:48:33And that, I mean, that's really happening.
- 1:48:35Yeah. So yeah, I haven't driven.
- 1:48:36And so then it's like, oh, I got this cool drift car built.
- 1:48:39Oh no, now I'm burning $1000 in tires A.
- 1:48:42Day. Every time I drive, yeah, yeah,
- 1:48:44yeah. It becomes unsustainable.
- 1:48:45Like, yeah. And then now, like, you know,
- 1:48:48whether it's just going to be a phase for them or not.
- 1:48:50Like, that's not going to help them potentially like become a
- 1:48:53lifer at like, you know, enjoying something like Drifter.
- 1:48:56So it was like that idea of like sustainability like.
- 1:48:59I've never tried to build a car that I could not afford to
- 1:49:02actually use. Yeah, because.
- 1:49:05Now high horsepower, you're running a sequential, you're
- 1:49:07doing all these things. People really don't think about
- 1:49:11that shit. No, that's.
- 1:49:13An important factor. So if we can have those
- 1:49:16conversations face to face rather than someone just looking
- 1:49:19at a YouTuber for those answers, it's not saying that that's
- 1:49:21wrong, but they're in a different stage of.
- 1:49:24Where their career is or where like life is for them sometimes.
- 1:49:27Like if you're a college kid, like I remember being in college
- 1:49:30and like wanting to be able to like drift but also being like,
- 1:49:33you know, like every dollar counts.
- 1:49:35Yo, like what Derek was saying. Like, you know, like being in a
- 1:49:38high school and talking about like, all right, I'm saving up
- 1:49:40my lunch money for an exhaust. Like am I saving up my money for
- 1:49:44like a like a track day or for tires Or like maybe I need seats
- 1:49:50and a coil overs like you know what I mean?
- 1:49:51Just like those bare minimum things.
- 1:49:54So, like, having those face to face conversations rather than
- 1:49:57just being like, I guess I'm looking online for this thing
- 1:50:01through someone that like, doesn't really have the same,
- 1:50:05like, means as I do. No.
- 1:50:06But a louder voice that's the problem.
- 1:50:08Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:50:09Yeah, absolutely. Like, they think that because
- 1:50:10they're on YouTube, they're the louder voice they need to listen
- 1:50:13to. Yeah.
- 1:50:14Or you said something interesting, which is like
- 1:50:17they'll share it amongst their friends, They'll they'll.
- 1:50:21I've seen it where like. Yeah, like somebody of your,
- 1:50:27somebody more similar to you will say the same exact thing
- 1:50:30that somebody else said, and then you'll listen to that
- 1:50:32person. Yeah, like, resonates.
- 1:50:35Yeah, yeah. It resonates more with that
- 1:50:38person, Frankie, to me. Well, like, I'll say something
- 1:50:42to you. Oh.
- 1:50:43Yeah, like you'll see other people say, and then somebody
- 1:50:45else will say the same exact thing to me.
- 1:50:47And I'm like, you know what? Yeah, that actually might work.
- 1:50:49But since it came out of you, and maybe since you were saying
- 1:50:51it in like a way where I'm like, this guy is just trying to
- 1:50:53preach to me right now, then I'm like, but I'm not gonna listen
- 1:50:58to this guy. That's why it helps to like to
- 1:51:00have the homies like I know. Like, yeah, dude.
- 1:51:02I maybe even take it for granted, but like I'll have a
- 1:51:04conversation where I'd like, I have something like in my head
- 1:51:06where I'm like OK, like if I'm changing spring rates, like I
- 1:51:09need to make sure dampening is good.
- 1:51:10And like, I need to make sure like all of these things are OK
- 1:51:13and then I'll talk to Derek about it.
- 1:51:14And he's like, dude, I've trained spring rates and this,
- 1:51:16this and that. And, like, it affected it this
- 1:51:19way. Like the dampening was not
- 1:51:21changed. So like, I can bounce that
- 1:51:23information off of him. Somebody that has like grip and
- 1:51:26like track experience where like I'm building up in my head like
- 1:51:29it's gonna be such a negative move and I need to spend all
- 1:51:31this extra money to do it properly.
- 1:51:34Quotations. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:51:36Because like it needs to. It has to be this way.
- 1:51:38Otherwise your car's gonna catch on fire and you're gonna crash.
- 1:51:41You know what I'm saying? Like.
- 1:51:42Some absurd thing versus somebody that has like firsthand
- 1:51:45experience saying, like this is the benefit of it.
- 1:51:47This is, you know, the negative of it.
- 1:51:49So, like, I'm giving you that information now.
- 1:51:52Like you can make that decision. And it's pretty much like, do
- 1:51:55you trust this person? Like, that's pretty much what it
- 1:51:57is. Like, if you're hearing that
- 1:51:58from random people on the Internet, then it's like, OK, I
- 1:52:01don't know. But then if it's like your boy,
- 1:52:03that's like OK. Absolutely.
- 1:52:04You know, he's got experience. Yeah.
- 1:52:06If you can back it up, then it's like, OK, but like that goes
- 1:52:08back to what you were saying, Carl, with like, people
- 1:52:12messaging you and shit like, oh, you should try this.
- 1:52:14Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's like, yeah, yes and
- 1:52:16no. I mean, you know, being be
- 1:52:18courteous but like just. No, I definitely, always, I want
- 1:52:21to always make sure that not everybody, even your closest
- 1:52:25friends, sometimes won't even give you an input.
- 1:52:28OK, it takes somebody to give you input that that takes effort
- 1:52:31from their end too. So I make sure never to just be
- 1:52:33like. Dismissive about it or yeah.
- 1:52:35Or put somebody down for telling me an opinion of theirs because
- 1:52:38like, they're trying to just help me too.
- 1:52:41But yeah, like, I think that that's wildly important that to
- 1:52:46be. Make sure that you're always
- 1:52:47grateful that you have your friends because like, I have
- 1:52:48those friends too. Chris Darrell.
- 1:52:50Like what Quan. Like we'll always just bounce
- 1:52:52ideas off of each other and it sometimes will prevent me from
- 1:52:56doing something else because I'm like, you know what?
- 1:52:59So and so said this. That might not be the move for
- 1:53:01me. Maybe I should go like explore
- 1:53:03it a little. Bit more, yeah, Or it'll prevent
- 1:53:04you from spending a lot of money sometimes, like you're saying.
- 1:53:06Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:53:07I think that's what like DK was like kind of bringing up was
- 1:53:09like it creates like that community and it, you know, you
- 1:53:12have that conversation between like younger driver, like one
- 1:53:16generation to the next versus just like, I don't know, like
- 1:53:20taking someone's word for it. Yeah, that might have a platform
- 1:53:23that like gives them that word and like what I said maybe
- 1:53:27earlier with that like. Be wary of like.
- 1:53:30And I feel like you guys dealt with all that already with the
- 1:53:32forums too. The forums were brutal back in
- 1:53:36the day. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:53:37But also helpful. Well, I'm.
- 1:53:39Still on them. I also go through there.
- 1:53:41Yes and no. But also like at the same time
- 1:53:43when you were trying to evolve and start drifting like the
- 1:53:46forums were like fucking idiot. You know, like you will die if
- 1:53:51you stretch your tires. Or, you know, like everyone's
- 1:53:54heard that. 214 on a 9 inch wide.
- 1:53:57Bro DK, I feel like you've probably been banned from some
- 1:53:59from some forums before in the past.
- 1:54:00Does that happen? It's it's happened a few times.
- 1:54:03OK. Yeah.
- 1:54:04I'll get that vibe. Yeah, that's happened.
- 1:54:06Yeah, that was they were those ones weren't good anyway.
- 1:54:11Yeah. Did we, did we have any
- 1:54:13questions? We definitely got questions, but
- 1:54:14I got one too. This Toge Mountain run.
- 1:54:17Is this gonna happen again? Yeah, it'll happen again.
- 1:54:20OK. All right, nice.
- 1:54:20You think you're ever gonna open it up to more people?
- 1:54:22Or is it more like it's always gonna be handpicked?
- 1:54:25OK. That's just probably.
- 1:54:27I think that's. For the your own good.
- 1:54:28Yeah. Type of obviously like they'll
- 1:54:30be. You know that doesn't mean that
- 1:54:32I'm we're not gonna let people that we don't know.
- 1:54:35Yeah. It just means there's gonna be
- 1:54:36an application process, just like we, you know, we do apps
- 1:54:40for St. leagues still, you know, to make sure you're not bringing
- 1:54:43a heap of shit that no one wants Store in their car.
- 1:54:45You know, you have to do that stuff, yeah.
- 1:54:47Absolutely. So yeah, there'll be an
- 1:54:50application process for sure. But like, there's no saying,
- 1:54:54like we're never gonna let new drivers in.
- 1:54:56That just that would be silly. Cuz you guys definitely, Well,
- 1:55:00you and whoever else was involved, definitely.
- 1:55:03Set the tone. Let's say broke the Internet.
- 1:55:05That weekend, or whenever it was, that's.
- 1:55:07Just cuz I feel like everyone was like, what the fuck is
- 1:55:09going? On It was a big moment in
- 1:55:11drifting that I think a lot of people needed to see, so it was
- 1:55:15really cool. Yeah, it made it real.
- 1:55:17Like us stateside, togue. It felt good for the US,
- 1:55:20definitely, but it was one of those things like it's been
- 1:55:22done. Like as far as like people St.
- 1:55:25sliding and Oh yeah, elevation. Like, of course, like in the
- 1:55:28mountains. Washington, Oregon.
- 1:55:30Like, absolutely. It's something that's always
- 1:55:31been around. But as far as like bringing it
- 1:55:34to like something that's structured and now we have like
- 1:55:37fire safety there, that if something does happen, it's not
- 1:55:39just you and your homies, like trying to pull a car.
- 1:55:41Yeah. Like recovery is there or like.
- 1:55:44Yeah, yeah, yeah, Like. So it gives it like a little bit
- 1:55:47of a safety net there, which is great.
- 1:55:49Yeah. So it's not.
- 1:55:50And you're not putting other people's lives in danger, like
- 1:55:52that's always, like, such a big thing.
- 1:55:53It's basically like the cooler track version of, you know,
- 1:55:57Yeah, I saw a lot of videos resurfacing from other people
- 1:56:01doing it in different parts of the country, really organized or
- 1:56:04not, because they're like, hey, we've been doing this too.
- 1:56:07So I started seeing videos like Resurface.
- 1:56:09Which is awesome. It's just fine to see that.
- 1:56:11Yeah, like, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 1:56:12But. But this was like a.
- 1:56:14I mean, I'm calling it a track day, like that's what it was to
- 1:56:16me, like calling. It a hill climb because that's
- 1:56:18exactly what was going on. Yeah, but like, I mean, like you
- 1:56:20said, the. Roofs, yeah.
- 1:56:21Yeah, like there's fire, there's, you know, everyone's
- 1:56:24there, it's safe. The shit that they're probably
- 1:56:26showing is like illegal St. stuff, which is obviously cool,
- 1:56:29we all like that. But you know, it's, it's two
- 1:56:32totally different things. So yeah, I mean it's, you know,
- 1:56:36you could call it a controlled environment, you know, but.
- 1:56:39Yeah, no, it's definitely awesome though another question
- 1:56:42I had was. The what was it?
- 1:56:45Street League? Do you guys have like rules for
- 1:56:49car specs and stuff? Like how does that work?
- 1:56:51Just tires, tire size? OK, yeah, yeah, that's like the.
- 1:56:54I feel like that's like the go. I mean, we would like them all
- 1:56:56to look as cool as possible, Yeah, so and like some guys
- 1:57:00apply and then get irritated that they don't get accepted and
- 1:57:04whatnot. And most of the time it's
- 1:57:06because they don't really understand the concept of what
- 1:57:08it is. You know, they see it as another
- 1:57:10competition, competition, payout thing that they want to try to
- 1:57:13win. Yeah.
- 1:57:13And it's not. That's not not what.
- 1:57:15It is. I do like that though.
- 1:57:17Doesn't that? Wouldn't that like motivate?
- 1:57:19You to make your car. Not so like, oh, OK, well, it
- 1:57:22has worked because, like the first year of Street League, I
- 1:57:25mean, it was tough to get cars that were good luck, appropriate
- 1:57:29looking for what we were, you know, what we want, you know.
- 1:57:31And you know, it's a, in a way, a nostalgia series, you know?
- 1:57:35Oh wow. I like.
- 1:57:36I love that. It's hard to actually put that
- 1:57:40on paper, to call it that, because obviously not everyone
- 1:57:43can drive 90s and 2000s drift cars because they're just not
- 1:57:46out there. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:57:47But, like, it's to try to motivate people to at least put
- 1:57:51effort into that style and that era of drifting.
- 1:57:55Yeah, so. It's similar to Final Bout in a
- 1:57:57way, yeah, in a way. Oriented, yeah.
- 1:58:00Yeah, I would call it. Like Lock City has it St.
- 1:58:04series. Too.
- 1:58:05Yeah, they yeah. Like, yeah.
- 1:58:06Well, that's why I asked about the tire size and stuff, because
- 1:58:08I know other. Other groups are trying to do
- 1:58:11like Street Street series stuff, which is fucking awesome.
- 1:58:14Obviously we all like that stuff, but it yeah, it's like
- 1:58:17how do you go about like Unlock City was saying like you need
- 1:58:20like 8080% of your interior and stuff like that.
- 1:58:23So we we try. To we try to enforce the
- 1:58:26interior stuff at the same time. It's like, you know, cages are
- 1:58:30recommended, especially unlike the older cars.
- 1:58:34And it is hard to refit interior, to be honest,
- 1:58:37sometimes it's hard to just get interior if you got a car that
- 1:58:39didn't come with it. So like that's we try to enforce
- 1:58:43that. Like we don't want people
- 1:58:45showing up with like aluminum dashes that are.
- 1:58:48Ohh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, we don't require like
- 1:58:52side windows, you know, But like it's mainly people who want to
- 1:58:58be a part of it should know what we're looking for.
- 1:59:00Yeah. And if they don't, then we try
- 1:59:02to teach them that and like, we'll get guys that show up.
- 1:59:05And we're like, man, we were like, technically this car
- 1:59:07shouldn't pass tech because like our tech requires.
- 1:59:10It's a problem to look. Yeah.
- 1:59:11To look, right. You know?
- 1:59:12And then it's like, all right, you know, we kind of have to
- 1:59:15talk to them and like, try to get them to understand.
- 1:59:18And then that's sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.
- 1:59:20And then sometimes you see the guys actually, like, go back, go
- 1:59:23in the right direction, and then they start gradually showing up
- 1:59:26with something more and more like what it's supposed to.
- 1:59:28And they're like, damn, this is sweet, yeah.
- 1:59:29It's definitely a balance too, because like, you want good
- 1:59:32driving. So like, do you want just cars
- 1:59:34that look sick as fuck? But like, they're not putting a
- 1:59:36run together or they're putting a run together, but they're
- 1:59:38tandem's like kind of like shoddy.
- 1:59:40So it's like, yeah, it's like, OK, we have a car that has a lot
- 1:59:43of potential and you have a conversation with that person
- 1:59:46and it's like, OK, like. You know what can you do to
- 1:59:50like, you know, not running like like plexi windows or things
- 1:59:56like that like are running more interior like those things like
- 1:59:59the idea of like having this more.
- 2:00:01Of a street. Streetable thing that they call
- 2:00:03streetly. Yeah, well that you can enjoy on
- 2:00:05the. Like, yeah, you can go like go
- 2:00:08over to your homie's house in it.
- 2:00:09Like it doesn't just need to live on a trailer.
- 2:00:11You know what one rule that I always wish existed.
- 2:00:14You guys can probably tell me why this might not, but.
- 2:00:17Radio having the car registered. Oh, oh, yeah.
- 2:00:19Like to drive like. Is that a rule?
- 2:00:21I've never not had my car registered.
- 2:00:24It's not a rule. OK Yeah.
- 2:00:27I think that's actually like a rule for like the D1 Street.
- 2:00:30Yeah. Class.
- 2:00:30Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:00:32It was like the rule. Yeah.
- 2:00:33So our issue with that was like we'd get a lot of like right
- 2:00:35hand drive cars that you know. Yeah, yeah, they come from.
- 2:00:39Allegedly. Yeah, so like.
- 2:00:42There's definitely and also like that doesn't necessarily help
- 2:00:45the rule book at all because like anyone that you can go
- 2:00:48register in Indiana, you know, we can register damn near
- 2:00:51anything. Yeah.
- 2:00:52So that doesn't keep anyone from showing up with a car that's
- 2:00:54still a. Pro Am car, you know?
- 2:00:57Yeah. So it'd be like little things
- 2:00:59for me like radio. And yeah, we have like cars that
- 2:01:02are I would say almost pro two level that do do come.
- 2:01:08Yeah, and like. And they look a bit better, but
- 2:01:11like as far as like the components they have to make the
- 2:01:14car drive well and the horsepower like they're right up
- 2:01:17there with a proium type car, but they're still limited by the
- 2:01:20two 45300 tread wear. Yeah, So what tire 245 Max and
- 2:01:26300 minimum tread wear. OK.
- 2:01:28Yeah. So I mean that's a pretty good
- 2:01:29size. Yeah, absolutely.
- 2:01:31I mean, it makes it competitive where someone's not just even
- 2:01:33with the like, the layouts too, like that can completely change
- 2:01:37like how it's being run. Like, I mean, you have a a
- 2:01:39layout that like helps lower horsepower cars.
- 2:01:41Like, yeah, cool, you have 600 horsepower and you're, you know,
- 2:01:44blowing your tires off. But like if a Miata or whatever
- 2:01:47is like pushing you through the course because like you're just
- 2:01:51blowing smoke the whole time, like they have advantage you.
- 2:01:54Know what I'm saying? It's pretty crazy, yeah.
- 2:01:56Because we, I mean. We have often a stock 350Z power
- 2:02:01plant and like a 2JZ and then a turbo Miata on podium.
- 2:02:07Last event all the time. Yeah, and it's.
- 2:02:09A pretty good mix, which is really exciting.
- 2:02:12That's awesome. Yeah.
- 2:02:13Getting to see like under powered cars or what you would
- 2:02:16think. Wow.
- 2:02:17Hell, we've had like a E36 and three on podium with just this
- 2:02:22NA motor. Obviously, those things are.
- 2:02:24Nothing to call home about. Yeah, they get around, but yeah,
- 2:02:29they're probably not as good as, even as.
- 2:02:31Soccer driver ability, which is like, is amazing.
- 2:02:34Like, it's one of those things like anytime you see somebody
- 2:02:37with a pretty mild build, like really putting it on everybody,
- 2:02:41like, that's who you're excited to watch.
- 2:02:44Like, it's one of those things like, I'm rooting for that guy
- 2:02:46because like, yeah, I know what that car's about.
- 2:02:49And that dude is like. Putting it on everybody all
- 2:02:51weekend like I hope like he's the one that's number one this
- 2:02:55weekend. And we don't, We don't
- 2:02:56necessarily have a problem where it's like, dudes bring in these
- 2:03:00super tricked out like JDM cars and they can't drive for shit
- 2:03:04because like, they have to qualify, so they wanna do good.
- 2:03:10So like, it's not just like, Ohh, I got this cool car, it's
- 2:03:13pretty shit because I can't drive it very well, so like.
- 2:03:17All the guys wanna do good. So like I haven't ran into that
- 2:03:20problem where guys are bringing like really neat stuff and just
- 2:03:22can't perform at all. Like it's pretty stiff all
- 2:03:25around, so. So it seems to be working out.
- 2:03:28Yeah, yeah. I mean, like, that's awesome,
- 2:03:30man. English Town or Yeah, Club Loose
- 2:03:33is gonna have a cart track competition where it's the same
- 2:03:36kind of structure. Club loose but sorry the Drift
- 2:03:40School at English Town East Coast Drift School.
- 2:03:44Yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's gonna, he's
- 2:03:47organizing a competition where it's a 235 tire cage, which
- 2:03:50tandem is allowed, which is big thing in New Jersey and.
- 2:03:55Yeah, we're all stoked for that, cuz we're we're hoping for that.
- 2:03:58Something will come out of that, yeah, because hopefully it
- 2:04:00sparks a. Is that a gambler event?
- 2:04:03No, no, technically it's not right.
- 2:04:04It's separate because the gambler event of what I've
- 2:04:07known. It was a small tire class
- 2:04:08though, right? I don't actually know enough
- 2:04:11about the Gambler series. I know that the Gambler series.
- 2:04:13They have an unlimited, it has an unlimited and there is a 235
- 2:04:17class I think. That's what that's what Reese
- 2:04:19was telling me that, OK, I think that there was a 235.
- 2:04:23Probably, yeah. They're probably fast 2:35
- 2:04:27class. The thing is like when it's on
- 2:04:29the Figure 8, I I don't give a fuck about that track
- 2:04:32personally. When it's on the road course,
- 2:04:34it's on the road course. Yeah, that's pretty sick.
- 2:04:36Yeah, yeah, be sick. But the Figure 8 I'm like.
- 2:04:39Like when we go to FD and like have, I mean, you know, go there
- 2:04:42to have a booth and everything, like, we'll shut it down.
- 2:04:45We'll go watch like the end of FD because it's fun to see at at
- 2:04:48this stage. It's like, dude, those cars are
- 2:04:50just fucking entertainment. Like, it's not.
- 2:04:52Yeah, it's crazy. Yeah.
- 2:04:53Like, I'm not watching that. It's wild.
- 2:04:54Yeah. I'm not watching that and like
- 2:04:56comparing it to like, what we're doing.
- 2:04:58Yeah, I'm watching it. Like I'm watching something that
- 2:05:00I'll never be able to do. Yeah.
- 2:05:02And it's like, it's fun to see that on on a Figure 8, but like.
- 2:05:06I've seen like fucking 300 horsepower cars in the Figure 8.
- 2:05:08I'm like, I'm good. Yeah, I mean, and it's dangerous
- 2:05:11as fuck because it's there, there's walls, every fucking
- 2:05:14corner. So I'm like, right there, yeah.
- 2:05:16Both of them. Fuck, they're hard as fuck too.
- 2:05:19Yeah, I'm not trying to do a comp and fuck my car up for a
- 2:05:24Figure 8, like, more power to them.
- 2:05:26But that car track comp has me excited because I have a GE
- 2:05:29still and I love my G Cuz I get in and I turn it on and it's
- 2:05:32still slow as shit. Yeah, dude, the car track is fun
- 2:05:35and it's just fun on a slow. Car.
- 2:05:36It's weird. It's like old parking lot shit
- 2:05:39but and it's rough as fuck, but it's like it makes you feel like
- 2:05:42it's the old days away, you know what I mean?
- 2:05:45So that sounds great. And the track the layout.
- 2:05:47It's like I was telling you this earlier too.
- 2:05:50So they did that at. The Invitational, right?
- 2:05:53Yes, yes. Yeah, OK.
- 2:05:54And that shit was sick, dude. That was awesome.
- 2:05:57Like like when they were doing that, that track is fun.
- 2:05:59It's a fast, straight, quick, short, fast, straight, Yeah.
- 2:06:03And then it's like a super hard entry.
- 2:06:05So like, it's everybody's favorite shit, you know?
- 2:06:07That's what, That's what the crowd likes to see.
- 2:06:09Like, yeah, it's gonna be a good time.
- 2:06:11Would you guys ever consider going out there for a BMI if
- 2:06:13they keep doing them? I mean, we got the invites, we
- 2:06:16just, we haven't been. Traveling.
- 2:06:19Really. I'd say.
- 2:06:20Like, I know it sounds like we have, but we.
- 2:06:22Yeah, really. It sounds like you have and
- 2:06:23that's why. You do that.
- 2:06:24Kentucky. Tennessee.
- 2:06:26Yeah, fucking Ohio. Kentucky is only like 6 hours
- 2:06:30from us. Yeah, we.
- 2:06:32Still a lot of another 4 hours, I was about to say.
- 2:06:34Only it's crazy. Only another four hours and
- 2:06:38you're but that falls under Derek's threshold of seven
- 2:06:40hours. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:06:41Yeah. For Street.
- 2:06:43Yeah, fair enough, but. Dude, we didn't even.
- 2:06:46I feel like there's a lot of shit we didn't even.
- 2:06:47Get to talk about E Town's my favorite like track.
- 2:06:49Period. Still.
- 2:06:50And awesome, I've done. I've done Horses Mile and like,
- 2:06:52yeah, that's E Town is over. You know, US Air is like
- 2:06:56everyone's favorite. But like E Town, E Town is my
- 2:07:00favorite period still. Yeah, I agree with that
- 2:07:02statement. I say the same thing.
- 2:07:03I'm like, I know it's our home track, but I don't.
- 2:07:06I feel like it's. You got everything there?
- 2:07:07Yeah. There's a lot to like about that
- 2:07:09track. Yeah, like.
- 2:07:11First turn, you can really like, stretch your legs out of it,
- 2:07:13that's what. I like, like, you get to really,
- 2:07:16you know? Yeah, dude.
- 2:07:17That first turn is sick, man and now everyone's obsessed with
- 2:07:21tree turn and all the other one like they just there's different
- 2:07:24setups like layouts You can do now.
- 2:07:26Well Josh, Josh. Fucking well now.
- 2:07:29They laid up tree turn. Yeah, now they're going
- 2:07:31backwards at tree turn. I was like, I gotta throw a
- 2:07:33backy. That's the only care I think I
- 2:07:35care about. Which is like something I don't
- 2:07:36really, yeah. Fuck.
- 2:07:40It's. Like each their own.
- 2:07:41Yeah, yeah, exactly. Like I always, I always tell
- 2:07:43Carl, I'm like, yeah, I'm not really into that stuff, but it's
- 2:07:45cool to watch. But like, it's fun of shit to
- 2:07:48try once you. When you try, you're like, what
- 2:07:50the fuck? I'm just like, I always think of
- 2:07:52like Josh always talks like, oh, you got so much to learn this
- 2:07:54and that. I'm like, I definitely probably
- 2:07:56have a lot to learn in the last three years, but I still have no
- 2:08:00interest in doing that shit. But thanks for the comment.
- 2:08:03But yeah, like, I get it, but I don't know.
- 2:08:06It's just not for me. I like.
- 2:08:08I like the breaking style I always have.
- 2:08:11Yeah, it's very nostalgic. You use that word.
- 2:08:14So I will always hope that that's how you guys stay.
- 2:08:18Yeah, that's just what we like. So yeah, we're gonna keep doing
- 2:08:21what we like. That's awesome.
- 2:08:23Not I like trying different stuff, but like it always.
- 2:08:25Goes back it always. Goes back to the same thing.
- 2:08:28Yeah, and I don't. And you know, like, sometimes I
- 2:08:30hate it. All right, let's see.
- 2:08:33Let's see if we got any questions we threw this shit up
- 2:08:35like. Right before I called Malcolm,
- 2:08:38yeah. And disclaimers?
- 2:08:39Sometimes they're actually not. Sometimes they're usually more
- 2:08:43or less just random ass fucking questions now, which people tend
- 2:08:46to like. Really random shit.
- 2:08:48Let's see if Laughlin's on there.
- 2:08:49Tell him that Malcolm's not here.
- 2:08:53Is he there? None.
- 2:08:55I'm sure he'll be here, Alcol. Let me see.
- 2:08:57There's a few names. Make sure to try to read the
- 2:09:02names. I love these peoples.
- 2:09:03I love watching Frankie try to read this shit, dude.
- 2:09:07It's like sometimes, sometimes we'll do a whole podcast and
- 2:09:09then we'll be like, all right, let's do this, submit questions
- 2:09:11real quick and then I open this and I'm like, OK, let's do a
- 2:09:14whole nother podcast. It's like, it's like fucking
- 2:09:18ridiculous, but let's there's a lot.
- 2:09:20Yeah, we posted up an hour ago. I know.
- 2:09:23First first comment, show me the fart facts.
- 2:09:25What? What is that?
- 2:09:28What the fuck is the Aiden keeps bringing that up to me, dude.
- 2:09:30He's like, how do you not know what fart facts is?
- 2:09:32Aiden? I don't know what fart facts
- 2:09:34are, bro. Yo, your brother, How does it
- 2:09:35feel being the second coolest? How do you say you name?
- 2:09:38By Ansky. By Ansky, I keep saying Beyoncé.
- 2:09:40He called you the second coolest.
- 2:09:45And then another one. What's it like being so damn
- 2:09:47cool? Apparently you guys are fucking
- 2:09:48cool. So pretty fucking cool to me,
- 2:09:51dude. Ask him about his waistgate.
- 2:09:54Is that a thing? So who said that?
- 2:09:57John Lewis. I figured that's who it was.
- 2:10:01So our teammate that was helping me do the trans last weekend,
- 2:10:05when we pulled the trans because it was damaged, we saw that a
- 2:10:09few of the bolts on the waistgate had backed out.
- 2:10:11Is it like an old setup? Wastegate.
- 2:10:13It's like. We're talking about the bolts
- 2:10:15that hold the diaphragm together and.
- 2:10:17That's. The manifold, the hat on the
- 2:10:21waistgate SO. This week actually, John made
- 2:10:25sure that I put more of those bolts off.
- 2:10:27So we're good now. Because you drove it like that,
- 2:10:28obviously, yeah. It had like 2 bolts in it out of
- 2:10:31the six. Yeah, So, but it worked.
- 2:10:33It was fine 1/3 a third. That's pretty.
- 2:10:36Good, I. Guess the Westgate's doing
- 2:10:38great. Perfect.
- 2:10:40Milk. What kind of name is this?
- 2:10:41Milk and cookies. How do you balance by your name?
- 2:10:45What are you talking? About, it actually is a really
- 2:10:48good name. How do you balance cars, life,
- 2:10:50responsibilities, and everything else in between?
- 2:10:52Not a bad question. I feel like we didn't even talk
- 2:10:54about this shit. That's probably both of you.
- 2:10:56Yeah, oh. Man, Yeah, cuz.
- 2:10:59We're gonna begin with that. Like how do you balance?
- 2:11:01Yeah, I guess you know, this would be a good question for you
- 2:11:03considering there's thirteen cars in the No 22.
- 2:11:06Yeah. I don't know if it's balanced
- 2:11:08that well, OK. I mean, I guess like not having
- 2:11:14really any other hobbies helps. So like.
- 2:11:17Yeah. Definitely.
- 2:11:18When you're not juggling multiple things.
- 2:11:20Obviously I don't have any kids. Like, this is my main.
- 2:11:27My main. It's my lifestyle.
- 2:11:28Yeah. So like when you don't have
- 2:11:31other obligations really, you know, other than, like paying
- 2:11:34bills. So I guess it's not that
- 2:11:36difficult. I think it brings a lot of
- 2:11:37stress sometimes when you take on too much work.
- 2:11:40Yeah, maybe. What's happening here?
- 2:11:42I mean, I can tell you right now like if the majority of these
- 2:11:45cars are yours. I'm stressed out for you and
- 2:11:47they're not even mine, so I'm surprised you can even handle.
- 2:11:50I guess it doesn't really bother you like having different.
- 2:11:53Projects I'm. Totally different.
- 2:11:54See this amount. Of this is chaos for you.
- 2:11:57For me, it's not chaos because I've known him for so long.
- 2:12:00I get it. But I'm very different where I
- 2:12:04have a bunch of hobbies, I do a bunch of different things.
- 2:12:07So I guess it's just all about putting priorities in place.
- 2:12:12And making sure, like, the people that I care a lot about,
- 2:12:15like understand, like where they exist in those, like priorities.
- 2:12:18So like, there's been times in the past where I've like maybe
- 2:12:21put like certain hobbies before, like relationships or like
- 2:12:24things like that. And like, those were some things
- 2:12:27that took like some growing up to do to understand like, how to
- 2:12:30approach those and be cool with it.
- 2:12:32So like, yeah, you know, like that was definitely something
- 2:12:35that was important to me is like, yo, this is a huge part of
- 2:12:37my life. But also like.
- 2:12:40Like my partner being important, or like skating being important
- 2:12:43or art, or like all these different things and like, I
- 2:12:47don't know, I guess it just takes time with anything.
- 2:12:48You know what I mean? Like you start to figure it out
- 2:12:50and like no like learn from those mistakes I guess.
- 2:12:53Yeah, it's almost like one of those things where you're kind
- 2:12:55of gonna have to go through it. And just like, learn?
- 2:12:58Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 2:12:59To each his own type of deal. Yeah, I mean, like, I mean, it's
- 2:13:02good advice either way. But yeah, I feel like sometimes
- 2:13:04you gotta go through it yourself and you know, see how it works
- 2:13:08out. Best thing you like about your
- 2:13:10FD3 and dislike. I'm just gonna assume this is
- 2:13:13for you. Well, I mean, Dirk has one too.
- 2:13:16Well, he has actually 2. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:13:19Why am I not actually drives? Though, so the thing I like
- 2:13:25about it most, possibly the like the platform, like the engine
- 2:13:29itself. It was definitely something that
- 2:13:32I didn't know a whole lot about other than I had like some like,
- 2:13:35homies. Like when I first got into it
- 2:13:38that had them so like I could rely on them for like
- 2:13:40information if I like got stuck. So like the Rotary engine, it
- 2:13:44was definitely like a big like factor for me.
- 2:13:48Yeah, visually. Also, like, I really like the
- 2:13:51way that they look. Dislike.
- 2:13:55Ooh, let's go. I guess maybe the price point of
- 2:14:00certain things now is, but like that just exists within
- 2:14:03anything. Like as things age things are
- 2:14:06gonna get more expensive, but like.
- 2:14:07But it is Dom Toretto's car, so right?
- 2:14:09Hey. It's really different, but like
- 2:14:12I. I'm very biased.
- 2:14:13It's hard for me to ask like a dislike.
- 2:14:14Honestly. Like so.
- 2:14:15You really like those cars. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:14:17Like it's outside of it. Like, I don't really know
- 2:14:21something else. Like I've drifted a lot of other
- 2:14:23cars and I still like kind of go back to mine like I'm the person
- 2:14:27that like. If I skate a setup, I love that
- 2:14:31setup. Or if I drive a certain thing
- 2:14:32like I like that thing. You're kind of committed to it.
- 2:14:35Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely. God damn, I love it.
- 2:14:37Very biased. Yeah, I can relate a lot to,
- 2:14:39yeah, what you're saying right now, like with my car, like,
- 2:14:41I've had it for over 10 years now, but I drifted it for like
- 2:14:4510 years straight. And people are like, are you
- 2:14:48gonna change it to this? I'm like.
- 2:14:50Why would I do that? Not don't really want to DK is
- 2:14:51probably the opposite of us, but.
- 2:14:53No, I regret not being like that because like, it's way cooler to
- 2:14:57have a commitment to 1 chassis. Like in, yeah, it's smarter,
- 2:15:01it's easier, it's smarter. Like depending on your goal,
- 2:15:05like in Derek's case, the smartest thing to do is just
- 2:15:09keep, get what you want that you truly want and run with it.
- 2:15:12Yeah. Whereas like I've had so many
- 2:15:15different things which you know. I guess is good for me as far as
- 2:15:19like learning different cars which then helps me kind of work
- 2:15:22on other stuff. Definitely helps you kind of
- 2:15:24work on customer stuff and yeah you know help people with setups
- 2:15:28or whatnot. So like I in a way it's good for
- 2:15:30me to try out a lot of stuff but like if that's not like kind of
- 2:15:33like your your thing to always be essentially lifestyle of
- 2:15:39working on cars you know like yeah yeah then definitely not
- 2:15:42the move but like I I do wish that it like.
- 2:15:45I had a car that I pretty much started with and kept that same
- 2:15:48thing. Going so like with that, like
- 2:15:50he's doing a lot of those like modifications at time and time
- 2:15:54and time again where like I've said it and it already exists.
- 2:15:58So I don't have to do that again.
- 2:15:59But at the same time like I feel what it also like differentiates
- 2:16:03like DK from myself is that he can wheel like anything, like he
- 2:16:08can hop in anyone's car. He's gonna put a good lap
- 2:16:10together and it's gonna look great.
- 2:16:12For me, it'll probably take all day.
- 2:16:14I'm gonna try really fucking hard.
- 2:16:16I'm gonna look like a dickhead for half the day and I'm gonna
- 2:16:18feel very frustrated. Kind of feel the same as that.
- 2:16:20Yeah, so like with me I'm like, OK, like I have these like
- 2:16:24parameters that I exist in where him having the like driving
- 2:16:28talent that he does, I feels like like lets him like kind of
- 2:16:32like overreach, not overreach, but like perform in other
- 2:16:36chassis really well also. And that's something I've always
- 2:16:39like admired with like. Him as being like my teammate
- 2:16:42where I was like, fuck, I wish I could do that.
- 2:16:43Yeah, yeah, no, it's definitely like, you guys are like the
- 2:16:46perfect two people to do this with, cuz it's like 2 opposite
- 2:16:49ends of the spectrum with that stuff.
- 2:16:51But I've always wanted to get into rotaries and whatnot.
- 2:16:56But like, I always had this thought where I was like.
- 2:17:00I usually don't consider when I think about rotaries and getting
- 2:17:03one and working on it, I usually don't think about drifting it.
- 2:17:06It's usually total opposite thing, like just driving it and,
- 2:17:09you know, figuring it out. Using it as a, you know, fun
- 2:17:12weekend car. Yeah, but some I remember
- 2:17:15someone asked me like, oh, why don't you just get it like a
- 2:17:18Rotary and drift it? And I was like, dude, fuck,
- 2:17:20learning how to do everything I know how to do in an S chassis
- 2:17:22again, you know what I mean? I feel that way all over like.
- 2:17:27Like, I know that car inside and out.
- 2:17:29Like there's not one part of that car.
- 2:17:31I don't know. So it's like.
- 2:17:32It's like, oh fuck, here we go, yeah.
- 2:17:33So I started with an S chassis and then I went to an RX7 and
- 2:17:37that's how I feel now. So like, yeah, I feel you on
- 2:17:40that for sure. Yeah, Derek's like that's what I
- 2:17:42live for. This shit's getting him.
- 2:17:45Yeah. I mean, I'm like, no, now it's
- 2:17:47just like more money. This car needs like all these
- 2:17:50suspension parts where I can just take like.
- 2:17:54An FC or something, and it's just like I'll change the
- 2:17:56bushings. Leave it alone.
- 2:17:57Yeah, yeah, yeah. True.
- 2:17:59Where it's like the eight has like 12 different control arms
- 2:18:02in the back. Like those all probably need to
- 2:18:04be adjustable for me to lower this thing a lot.
- 2:18:07I Speaking of which, I saw we had an FC.
- 2:18:10We're getting more rotaries now, so we saw an FC on the alignment
- 2:18:12rack the other day and I was like, what in the fucking
- 2:18:14primitive? Shoot is going.
- 2:18:16On back here bro, I'm like what is this setup?
- 2:18:19In the back it was it's so like primitive to me after going from
- 2:18:22like multi links and seeing all that.
- 2:18:24That stuff. But then I hear people talk
- 2:18:25about it and they're like, if it fucking works.
- 2:18:28Trailing arm so shit dude. Yeah, I was like it's a trailing
- 2:18:31arm. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:18:33Interesting, dude. It's wild.
- 2:18:34It's fast. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:18:36I I know about the trailing arms.
- 2:18:38I have a lot of friends with E36 that shut the fuck up about that
- 2:18:41shit. Yo.
- 2:18:42I got the trailing arms, man. We are.
- 2:18:45Fast too they're. Fast as hell.
- 2:18:46I I need to learn about all that shit.
- 2:18:48It's just crazy. Hopefully soon.
- 2:18:51When the sweet Sweet Lou from Club Lou's when they making a
- 2:18:54return to English Town, I have the same question.
- 2:18:56But I don't have a car right now, so I'm not really.
- 2:18:58Soon enough. Yeah.
- 2:18:58Yeah, we should probably legit plan something now that we're
- 2:19:03all kind of like. On the same page a little bit.
- 2:19:05That's how I'm feeling. I'm feeling like you guys are
- 2:19:07like. Maybe 2024?
- 2:19:08Yeah. OK, all right.
- 2:19:10I need to get my car cranky's car is going to be done. 100%
- 2:19:13Needs Are We the Fuck Up? I prefer to do it on like a
- 2:19:16chill weekend. OK, that's fine.
- 2:19:17Not like how. Not like East Coast Bash, not.
- 2:19:19How like East Coast bash used to be?
- 2:19:21The thing is, East Coast bash dude, I feel like.
- 2:19:23It calmed down right? Well, The thing is like because
- 2:19:26I was expecting it to well. It was like 1,000,000 degrees
- 2:19:28every time. It's not like that anymore
- 2:19:30because they do it on a different.
- 2:19:32I thought I had a heat stroke. I don't know.
- 2:19:34I mean, dude, if you came to ECB, it'd be cool, but if you
- 2:19:36came to another one, it'd be just as.
- 2:19:38Cool. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:19:38So we'll figure it out. We could plan something out.
- 2:19:40Maybe there'll be a faction one cuz I've been trying to.
- 2:19:43Well, what we could do is you come, you come for an event and
- 2:19:47then the next day on Sunday we maybe have a private day or some
- 2:19:49shit. And that's what we're about.
- 2:19:51Yeah, that's why it sounds like. More grilling and chilling and
- 2:19:54some burning rubber, yeah. Exactly.
- 2:19:56Some, yeah. What is your favorite thing
- 2:20:00about drifting as it's evolved over the last 20 years?
- 2:20:03Okay. Name still get to do it with the
- 2:20:07Bros. Yeah, I mean, yeah, 100%.
- 2:20:09No matter how much it changes, you get to pick who you want to
- 2:20:12do it with and enjoy it with. So isn't that fucking awesome?
- 2:20:14Yeah. Yeah, like.
- 2:20:15Meeting new people like meeting new people that are just as
- 2:20:18excited as I was about it when I first started, like.
- 2:20:21Like giving someone a ride along that's never been in a drift
- 2:20:24car. Like that's having those
- 2:20:25experiences where you kind of take for granted just because
- 2:20:28you don't think about it anymore.
- 2:20:29Yeah, like that's the sick feeling.
- 2:20:32And then having that conversation with somebody or I
- 2:20:35don't know, just like the commonality of it, I guess.
- 2:20:37Yeah, that was perfect answer that was from.
- 2:20:41Sure. What?
- 2:20:42Dude, you gotta make me read them.
- 2:20:43Read them, Malcolm said To read them.
- 2:20:46Fuck. Sure's daddy.
- 2:20:48I don't know. Steve Scherzer.
- 2:20:49OK. Yeah.
- 2:20:50Yeah. That's Steve Scherzer.
- 2:20:51Oh, he's got more questions for you.
- 2:20:53Where do you think drifting in the US is right now at its peak
- 2:20:56question mark? Still on the low, still on the
- 2:20:58rise. Question mark.
- 2:21:00Yeah, right. Where is it going to go, dude?
- 2:21:02It's a great question. I mean, there's more and more
- 2:21:04events every year, it seems like.
- 2:21:07So, I mean, I think that's a good thing.
- 2:21:10Yeah. And I mean, I think that helps,
- 2:21:13man. I I guess keep the guy.
- 2:21:18You know, there's so many different ideas of what drifting
- 2:21:20should be like now. Yeah.
- 2:21:21So I think that kind of helps people choose the path that they
- 2:21:24want to go or at least give them the opportunity.
- 2:21:27Yeah. So, like, I think it's good.
- 2:21:28Yeah. You know.
- 2:21:30Do you think do you think drifting's hit its peak in the
- 2:21:33US? I don't, I don't think so.
- 2:21:35I think it's still been, you know, I think I feel like right
- 2:21:37now it's like exponentially getting larger.
- 2:21:40You know, just I think the the reach from all the the social
- 2:21:44media outlets has grown it a lot.
- 2:21:47Yeah. And you know, that could be
- 2:21:49this. The guys like that fly by night
- 2:21:51and then are gone. Yeah.
- 2:21:52But I I think it's still growing.
- 2:21:55Yeah, I think it'll continue to grow.
- 2:21:57I mean it it definitely could like plateau off, but like
- 2:22:00either way like as long as you have like good people putting on
- 2:22:04like. Good events and doing things
- 2:22:06like, you know, Appalachia, like drifting in the mountains.
- 2:22:10Or pushing the envelope a little.
- 2:22:11Bit doing things that are like, you know, newish, not, yeah,
- 2:22:14exactly. I think that's always going to
- 2:22:16make it new, new and exciting and like as long as those things
- 2:22:20are happening, like I I want to keep doing it.
- 2:22:23Like I'll stop doing it when it no longer becomes fun to me.
- 2:22:26And that hasn't happened yet. Yeah.
- 2:22:29Thank you, because I don't want to get burnt out either.
- 2:22:33Like fuck. Has seen the price of RX Rx's
- 2:22:37Skyrocket affected how you race? I like that question.
- 2:22:41Um, no. Because like, I bought it for
- 2:22:43that reason. So like it has always been like
- 2:22:47the thing that I want. It would be like buying I I keep
- 2:22:51using skating analogy. That's fine.
- 2:22:53That's fine. A lot, a lot of people.
- 2:22:54People can relate. Yeah, but it's like one of those
- 2:22:56things like I buy like a limited edition or like low press deck
- 2:23:00or something or like. Certain shoes or something
- 2:23:02that's like, no, no, no, I bought it for this reason.
- 2:23:05I'm going to use it. I have so many memories in that
- 2:23:09car. So I'm not just going to.
- 2:23:12There's people out there that race Ferraris.
- 2:23:14I'm not that guy. Yeah.
- 2:23:15So you know what I'm saying. That's a great comparison.
- 2:23:18Yeah, very. Fantastic comparison.
- 2:23:20You can be the cool guy that races a Ferrari, or you can be
- 2:23:22the fucking dude that goes to cars and coffee with it.
- 2:23:24That's. Kind of wack.
- 2:23:26So I'm gonna be the version of the Arc Seven guy that not
- 2:23:30comparing the two together. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
- 2:23:32Yeah. No, that's perfect.
- 2:23:33I mean, that's you. Enjoy it.
- 2:23:36It's like those people that buy cars and then they're like.
- 2:23:38Yeah, I gotta stop. Driving and I'm putting a lot of
- 2:23:40miles on it. It's like, well, didn't you
- 2:23:41fucking buy that you're driving in?
- 2:23:43The rain. It's like it's a fucking car.
- 2:23:44I heard some, like, I think it was something some Boomer said,
- 2:23:47which was actually hilarious. He was like, well, you wouldn't
- 2:23:49just save your wife for the next guy, right?
- 2:23:55That is perfect. I always tell people.
- 2:23:57Well, damn. Fuck.
- 2:23:58Now I feel like I'm not. I'm gonna stop saying that then,
- 2:24:02but I always say like, you got a hot wife, you're not gonna fuck
- 2:24:05her. Yeah, yeah, you're crazy.
- 2:24:06Yeah, that's. I mean, that is similar.
- 2:24:09That's what we're talking about here.
- 2:24:10Like, yes. And then, like, I've had friends
- 2:24:12that, like, they'll buy cars and that.
- 2:24:14They'll get all these parts for them and like never put them on.
- 2:24:16And then they'll be like, yeah, I don't know, I might sell.
- 2:24:18The miles are getting high up there.
- 2:24:20I'm like, dude, just fucking put the shit on the car, enjoy the
- 2:24:22car. If you crash it, you crash it,
- 2:24:24man. Like this you get one shot at
- 2:24:27this like. Yeah, it's a lot of people.
- 2:24:28I feel like they like the idea of it.
- 2:24:30And like when I first met Derek, like I was like, OK, drifting
- 2:24:35seems cool. Like I've done it on video
- 2:24:36games. Like, visually, I think it looks
- 2:24:39awesome. But like, let me go try this
- 2:24:41out, because if I fucking hate it, then like, I'm going to do
- 2:24:43some other shit. Yeah, I just happen to like it a
- 2:24:45lot. Yeah, no, so, so few.
- 2:24:47I feel like it's very rare that people drift and they're like,
- 2:24:49yeah, that was fucking stupid. Right, that was.
- 2:24:52We say that, but we're like, let's do stupid stuff again,
- 2:24:55yeah? Yeah, it's like that was dumb.
- 2:24:58I'm not doing that ever again. I haven't really heard any
- 2:25:01anyone say that with drifting. But did you?
- 2:25:04Did you guys think you'd be drifting this long when you
- 2:25:06started? That's actually a good question
- 2:25:08too. Where he's from.
- 2:25:10Alex Cashman. The other one was from their
- 2:25:13friend Z. Daddy sure sure is, Daddy.
- 2:25:17Sure is, Daddy. I, you know, when you start at
- 2:25:201617, you don't really think that far in the future.
- 2:25:24So like, you know, it was one of those things that was just a
- 2:25:30exciting thing at the time where you like, you know, I feel like
- 2:25:34it almost seems like something that you would get burned out on
- 2:25:38in a way, it's. It's it's like one of those,
- 2:25:41like excessive highs. Yeah.
- 2:25:44Where it's like, OK, you do this, like this many times,
- 2:25:47you're going to be like, well, I'm kind of over that was that
- 2:25:50was enough. You know like you like you rise
- 2:25:52like the some fancy roller coaster.
- 2:25:54That's insane. You're like, wow, that was sick.
- 2:25:56I'll do it two more times and then you don't do it ever again.
- 2:25:58Yeah, yeah, that's a good comparison.
- 2:26:00Especially the way we are with our cars and shit where it's
- 2:26:03like. You got to make it really nice
- 2:26:05every fucking time, or you want to keep up with it and then it's
- 2:26:07like you fucking break your fucking bumper and you're like.
- 2:26:10Well, I feel like that's. Part of the spend the money,
- 2:26:11that's. Literally the journey though,
- 2:26:13that you got to not well, if you're into if.
- 2:26:16You're into it that much and you're like really, you know?
- 2:26:18But at the same time, like I tell, I tell Carl and I tell
- 2:26:21Malcolm all the time because Malcolm doesn't drift.
- 2:26:23He just, he works at the. Shop, but he likes it.
- 2:26:25Yeah, he loves it. But you let him drive my.
- 2:26:27But he's smart. So he doesn't drift, but so he
- 2:26:30sees it. He's like.
- 2:26:32I can't believe this person's gonna pay this much money.
- 2:26:34I'm like, I'm like how many times I gotta tell you, these
- 2:26:37are drug addicts? Like, that's basically what it
- 2:26:40is. It's not.
- 2:26:41It's not like detrimental in the same way, but people are doing
- 2:26:45reckless shit with. Money, yeah.
- 2:26:46I mean, it's one of those things for me.
- 2:26:48It's like I've definitely been to the like spot where I feel
- 2:26:50like a little burn out and like I feel like it's definitely good
- 2:26:53to like pull away a little bit, kind of like like.
- 2:26:58Like Derek and I have definitely.
- 2:26:59Just like said, everyone on our team, like our teammates, is
- 2:27:01like, do not fuck your life up for this.
- 2:27:03Like, this is fun. This is a great hobby.
- 2:27:07Like there's so much community and camaraderie like we said
- 2:27:10before, but like don't fuck up the rest of your life for this
- 2:27:13one thing. Don't be taking out a bunch of
- 2:27:14credit cards. Don't be like if you're if you
- 2:27:16need to do something, grind, you know what I'm saying?
- 2:27:18But like. That used to.
- 2:27:20That's the fucking faction way, dude.
- 2:27:22But like, at least at least have.
- 2:27:23Like at least have a. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:27:25Yeah, yeah, figure it out and like.
- 2:27:28It's one of those, like, I guess to go back to the question is
- 2:27:31like what Derek said, like we didn't plan on doing it this
- 2:27:35long. But like, it doesn't surprise me
- 2:27:37because I know like how like motivating we are and how much
- 2:27:42our how motivated we are to do this and like how much we enjoy
- 2:27:45it. So like, it just is like a
- 2:27:48byproduct and of its own. Like, yeah, it's its own
- 2:27:52monster, I guess, because, like. You know, it creates like
- 2:27:56friendships and it's such a like fun feeling and all of these
- 2:27:58things. Like, I mean, like for example,
- 2:28:00like when Drift in D kind of turned into MDU.
- 2:28:06Yeah. And it was like a essentially it
- 2:28:08was a pro AM. Yeah.
- 2:28:09And that was when like there was a, I think we're like in the
- 2:28:13States, it kind of transitioned where everyone was trying to do
- 2:28:15the pro am thing. That's when the cars were
- 2:28:17getting insane. Yeah, that was definitely.
- 2:28:19And when that was all happening, like I stepped away.
- 2:28:24Yeah, we all pulled back. We all pulled out pretty much.
- 2:28:26And we're kind of like. Yeah I remember because I mean
- 2:28:28we we kind of fell off as far you know we're because it just
- 2:28:31wasn't what and it wasn't like we were like we were putting our
- 2:28:34foot down. Yeah we didn't we didn't have a
- 2:28:36conversation about it. We just that we just naturally
- 2:28:39kind of withdrew from what was going on and we we just weren't
- 2:28:42a part of it and it was never even like talked about.
- 2:28:45I don't think it just, it just naturally happened and then, you
- 2:28:48know, and then we came back and we're still interested.
- 2:28:53Yeah. And then we essentially put
- 2:28:55together the team. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:28:57And then got back into the group of things.
- 2:29:01And then things were kind of changing because the proamp
- 2:29:05stuff was fizzling away. It wasn't sustainable, not for
- 2:29:09everybody. Obviously there's people that
- 2:29:10are doing that and they're doing great things.
- 2:29:12But for us personally, it was the thing that was just like,
- 2:29:15okay, we're like. We're getting older.
- 2:29:17Some of us have kids. Some of us are like buying
- 2:29:19houses or college or like so many of these other like, like
- 2:29:23variables that exist in our lives.
- 2:29:24It's like, can we go like chase this, like pro dream to like
- 2:29:28what? Like to travel the country and
- 2:29:31like maybe get some cloud and like and some people have great
- 2:29:34deals. But like, I don't know how many
- 2:29:36people we've seen like GoPro AM and then now they could care
- 2:29:40less about drifting because like.
- 2:29:43Their dreams of becoming. They didn't win.
- 2:29:45Drifting. Yeah.
- 2:29:46Sorry, dude. You didn't win drifting.
- 2:29:47Like maybe you approached it the wrong.
- 2:29:49Fucking wind drifting. Is.
- 2:29:52Crazy. I mean, dude, that's.
- 2:29:53But that's happened a lot of guys like, yeah, there's a lot
- 2:29:55of guys that, I mean, hell, there's names that were
- 2:30:00successful in pro am drifting that now are no way off the map.
- 2:30:05Yeah, I try to tell that to my friends too, but it's like, I
- 2:30:10don't know some people. Can't let the dream die, it
- 2:30:14seems like. You know what I mean?
- 2:30:14Like, they just want it, which is fine.
- 2:30:16Yeah. I don't know.
- 2:30:17I mean, there's they want to do their avenues that they that
- 2:30:20people haven't realized, You know, like that there's plenty
- 2:30:24of dudes racing every weekend at a high level at their local
- 2:30:27circle track. Yeah.
- 2:30:28And they they're not. They're not every weekend.
- 2:30:30Like, yeah, this is so I can get the NASCAR.
- 2:30:32They know that that's not a reality.
- 2:30:35So they do it because that's the the level of competition that
- 2:30:39they belong at. Yeah.
- 2:30:40And it's sustainable. And then that's how you have
- 2:30:43fun. Yeah, because you're you're self
- 2:30:46aware of where you belong. You know, yeah, there's younger
- 2:30:49kids that start off, you know, carting and then there's the
- 2:30:52midgets and the sprints and then they gradually get to ARCA and
- 2:30:55then NASCAR or whatever. But like when you're middle-aged
- 2:30:59and you're racing cars, like not everyone can afford to do it at
- 2:31:04the highest level. And the problem with drifting is
- 2:31:06is like that wasn't there were no levels, there were no
- 2:31:09stepping stones. There was, there was essentially
- 2:31:11pro AM and pro and that's like just one large step.
- 2:31:16Yeah. And so.
- 2:31:18But no one knew any other way. Yeah, yeah.
- 2:31:20And now with things like Street League or other things where
- 2:31:23it's like, hey, you know, this is sustainable because it's not
- 2:31:28crazy expensive. Yeah, you can pull it off and
- 2:31:31have a shit ton of fun with your friends and do it frequently.
- 2:31:36And you don't have to be like this is going to get me to the
- 2:31:38pro level. Yeah, because that it doesn't
- 2:31:40need to happen, You know, it doesn't need to happen.
- 2:31:43But at the same time, like if guys wanted to, they could use
- 2:31:45that as a stepping stone to move up higher, yeah?
- 2:31:48But my, my, my first like experience with, well, my first
- 2:31:51first experience with Pro am, like actually seeing what's
- 2:31:55going on was with Justin when he was doing US drifts like 2015
- 2:32:01Sixteen and I did not. Like anything I was seeing, I
- 2:32:06was like, OK, I was like, OK, so this is pro.
- 2:32:07I don't know if it was pro AM, It was like, whatever.
- 2:32:09It's one of the same thing. Yeah, it was one of those pro,
- 2:32:12you know, amateur events and like we we go down there to
- 2:32:14Virginia, this and that. You know, we were down there to
- 2:32:17support him and whatnot. First thing I noticed once, once
- 2:32:20I get there, no one's there. It's just the drivers.
- 2:32:23I was like, OK, so what's your goal with this again?
- 2:32:27Like you want to try to make money doing this?
- 2:32:29No one gives a shit. Like, I I just didn't.
- 2:32:32I was like shouldn't. People be here that way.
- 2:32:35People want to use you as an advertisement tool because I
- 2:32:38don't think they're going to want to do that if no one's even
- 2:32:40coming to these events. You know, like it was always
- 2:32:42something like that to me, where I'm like, you need people to
- 2:32:45sponsor you. And if no one is at these
- 2:32:47events, obviously nowadays it's a little different.
- 2:32:51Yeah, not too. Different, but it's still got to
- 2:32:53be eyes on the show. Exactly, yeah.
- 2:32:55So once I saw that I was like, this shit's kind of stupid and
- 2:32:59then obviously I come from club loose.
- 2:33:02You know, Matt Petty preaches that shit forever.
- 2:33:04Like, you know, pro drifting is stupid, this and that.
- 2:33:07So yeah, he's one of the earliest dudes to preach that.
- 2:33:09Yeah, to really realize that and see it for what it is.
- 2:33:12And that's cuz he watched his friends fucking yeah do it.
- 2:33:14And he watched some of his friends become the most.
- 2:33:17Exactly. That's what I was gonna bring.
- 2:33:18On Famous Ones, too, and he's still some of the.
- 2:33:21Most decorated drivers in the United States come from that
- 2:33:23region. Yeah.
- 2:33:24And like, well, that's, you know, that's.
- 2:33:27It doesn't work for everybody and you need to be like very
- 2:33:30realistic with your goals and your ability, because there's a
- 2:33:33lot of delusional people out there that for some reason think
- 2:33:37that they need to be driving in bigger and different places.
- 2:33:40Yeah, but that's not the case. They have that comp mentality,
- 2:33:45which I respect and they have that thing.
- 2:33:47It exists in Motorsports. There's a lot of Bros in
- 2:33:50Motorsports as much as it is. You know, counterculture, like,
- 2:33:55you know BMX or skating or motocross or all these things.
- 2:33:58There's still like that competition that exists and it's
- 2:34:01always going to. Same shit happen in
- 2:34:02skateboarding. Yeah.
- 2:34:03Yeah, 100%. Yeah, so.
- 2:34:05Like. As negative as I'm being on
- 2:34:06this, I want to circle back and make sure that I say all the,
- 2:34:10like Street League stuff that you guys are doing and you guys
- 2:34:13are giving an opportunity to people who can't go do the pro
- 2:34:16am stuff. First of all, fucking awesome.
- 2:34:20Yeah, I never thought of. I was about to say.
- 2:34:21I never thought of it. That way, yeah.
- 2:34:24Where it's like you don't have to be at the pro level to
- 2:34:29compete I guess and like I could afford to compete in that.
- 2:34:33And this is like when I saw this started happen, the first time I
- 2:34:37experienced one of those types of events was Super D Yeah.
- 2:34:40And I was kind of just throwing it.
- 2:34:41It was like this is a comp. It's like okay, I guess we're
- 2:34:44competing and I never did that. So I did like a couple runs and
- 2:34:47I was like, yeah, I had a blast. I was like, that was fucking
- 2:34:49awesome. Cool cars, cool layouts.
- 2:34:51Yeah. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:34:52Like it speaks to what I like about drifting.
- 2:34:55Yeah, and like competition, as I was saying before, you know how
- 2:34:59I feel about comp driving. And then I did that and I was
- 2:35:02like, fuck, man, I was like, these companies need to be
- 2:35:06watching this shit. Yeah, Sponsoring.
- 2:35:08Well, that's the thing. There's no rule that says like
- 2:35:11pro drifting has to be 1200 horsepower and and monster truck
- 2:35:16stuff like there's no there's there's pro Moto GP racing 300CC
- 2:35:21bikes, so like they're not all thousand CC bikes at the pro
- 2:35:25level. There's small bike pro stuff
- 2:35:28too, so there's nothing to say that, like pro drifting can't be
- 2:35:31at a street league level, yeah. You know, I feel like that would
- 2:35:33be more enjoyable for a lot of people to.
- 2:35:34Watch and that's that's exactly my point.
- 2:35:36Like people, a lot of people, especially grass grassroots
- 2:35:39guys, they want to see that stuff.
- 2:35:41Yeah, they don't really want to drive hours away to watch a
- 2:35:45bunch of people with their parents money doing Pro Am.
- 2:35:48Like they because they can relate.
- 2:35:49A lot of guys, a lot of guys in the stands can relate, you know,
- 2:35:52to, yeah, you know, like you see like there's like Bagger racing.
- 2:35:57You do? Yeah.
- 2:35:57I've been watching that show and it's like, those aren't the
- 2:35:59best. They're insane, don't get me
- 2:36:01wrong, but like, those aren't the best fastest bikes.
- 2:36:03They're horrible. They don't make much sense.
- 2:36:05But people eat it now, yeah, and it's because it's cool and like
- 2:36:08they're those are pro guys racing those things.
- 2:36:10They're not the quickest and fastest bikes, but they're super
- 2:36:14fun to watch. Yeah, I wonder if there's going
- 2:36:15to be an Ave. for that. Imagine there is right now.
- 2:36:18It's happening right now because.
- 2:36:20Like you guys are a part of it. Like imagine that like.
- 2:36:23What the fuck? I mean, it's happening to the
- 2:36:24Front St. guys too, Like, literally as we speak.
- 2:36:26Like there's companies that are reaching out and they're finally
- 2:36:30getting to where they wanted to get to, like Josh and all them.
- 2:36:34So like we're finally watching it happen.
- 2:36:36But yeah, I don't know. It's just.
- 2:36:38Pretty awesome. I feel like it's good for the
- 2:36:40culture in that situation. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:36:41Like, it's not just this idea of how much money you can spend to
- 2:36:45do this. It becomes we keep saying
- 2:36:47sustainability, but like it's. It lets you drive for 10 plus
- 2:36:51years. It lets you drive for 15 plus
- 2:36:52years, you know. And especially at like the level
- 2:36:54they want to push it to, like if they want to like me and Carl
- 2:36:57were talking about on the way here, like I'm, I'm explaining
- 2:36:59like I'm like, yeah, you can like try to get sponsors and
- 2:37:01stuff. Literally on the way here.
- 2:37:04Yeah or or you could do cuz I was explaining to him I was like
- 2:37:07I'm not really into that shit. I would rather just like be able
- 2:37:10to do whatever I want to do if someone wants to give me parts
- 2:37:13or something and like I run a sticker and it works out cool.
- 2:37:16If it makes sense, it makes. Sense it makes yeah, if it makes
- 2:37:18sense, it makes sense. But like.
- 2:37:19The kind of driving that they're doing where they want to travel,
- 2:37:22they want to go everywhere they want to go every track they want
- 2:37:24to, they want to do like every event.
- 2:37:26It's like, yeah, then you're probably going to need someone
- 2:37:29to start paying for it, you know what I mean?
- 2:37:31Absolutely. Yeah.
- 2:37:32I guess it depends on what's going on.
- 2:37:34But I'm just, like I said, I'm glad that events like those
- 2:37:37street league and everything like companies are finally
- 2:37:41starting to see the light and they're like, oh, so maybe we
- 2:37:43should fucking throw them some money instead of the pro Am guys
- 2:37:46that have no spectators at the event.
- 2:37:48Like, yeah, it still happens that those pro events are
- 2:37:53getting low registration numbers.
- 2:37:56And yeah, even lower spectator dude, it was.
- 2:37:59I'll never forget that moment where I'm just like, how does
- 2:38:02this make any fucking sense? Like you're basically gambling.
- 2:38:04It's like, yeah, I might get my pro One card or whatever the
- 2:38:07fuck, but like or or I won't and I'll just.
- 2:38:10Keep doing this over and over and over, but you look around
- 2:38:12the and have a bad time at events, yeah?
- 2:38:15Because you're just stressing yourself out for nothing.
- 2:38:17Get a handful of laps and be just mostly aggravated the
- 2:38:21whole. Yeah.
- 2:38:22And then if you do make it like, yeah, it's weird.
- 2:38:25But to each other on like what you said, Jesus Christ, there's
- 2:38:29a lot of questions. Will you guys post up more?
- 2:38:32Sorry, that was for us. I usually try to ignore these
- 2:38:34ones. No, we won't.
- 2:38:38How does Fdrx 7 feel compared to an S chassis when drifting?
- 2:38:42That's a question I would like to know the answer.
- 2:38:44To better I'm just. No, I just, I feel like there's
- 2:38:48a lot like just the forward acceleration, definitely.
- 2:38:53I wouldn't say like if like is a angle heavy chassis like versus
- 2:38:59an S chassis where I feel like it naturally has angle.
- 2:39:01It feels and then. Yeah, yeah, like it.
- 2:39:04Always feels like it's just propelling you forward
- 2:39:07constantly. So, like, I mean, and Derek,
- 2:39:09he's sliding, you know, his FD like quite a bit.
- 2:39:12So I feel like he could probably even answer this better, just
- 2:39:14because he has a, I don't know, better explanation.
- 2:39:17I think the easiest way to explain it this is exaggeration,
- 2:39:21but I feel like an S chassis pivots right behind the front
- 2:39:26wheels, whereas like an Arc 7 FC and FD pivot more, I'd say like
- 2:39:32center of the wheelbase. Yeah, at the driver, Okay.
- 2:39:35So like the way the car pivots back and forth, I feel like it's
- 2:39:39pushed back a decent amount. Front wheels is a bit of an
- 2:39:42exaggeration for an S chassis, but where the car rotates.
- 2:39:46Yeah, I kind of get farther and farther towards the rear wheels.
- 2:39:48I have to drive one of these fucking things.
- 2:39:50Like I wanna see what it's like. When I went to the SO, less of a
- 2:39:54fishtail motion and more of almost just like a. 4 wheel
- 2:39:57slide. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay.
- 2:40:00And like, it was definitely a big learning curve for me.
- 2:40:03Like going from a Nest chassis to I like it felt so challenging
- 2:40:07and scary because I had to keep my foot in it.
- 2:40:10Yeah, just to keep it in power and like there being like a lack
- 2:40:13of like torque and stuff. So, like, to me it was just like
- 2:40:17such a challenge. Like I've hopped in a couple
- 2:40:19different cars and I was like, this is a lot of fun.
- 2:40:21I feel like I could like do pretty well in this car.
- 2:40:23Yeah, but then going to my car, it's always felt like something
- 2:40:27that was challenging me. Always.
- 2:40:29Would you guys compare it to Miata?
- 2:40:30I'd. Say yeah, Okay, yeah, definitely
- 2:40:34okay, yeah. Who asked that question?
- 2:40:39W have asked that question to Derek.
- 2:40:46How was your Toyota Sequoia experience?
- 2:40:48What So? Here we go.
- 2:40:52Yeah. Wait.
- 2:40:52He loves Toyota sequoias. Bro, they good bang for your
- 2:40:55buck. He loves them good.
- 2:40:57Bang for your buck. Big shout out to Sugar, Sugar
- 2:41:00and Seketh last weekend when I had the gearbox.
- 2:41:03Seketh Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wait.
- 2:41:05He messages me about Sequoia stuff recently.
- 2:41:08That's my dog. For real.
- 2:41:09Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's crazy.
- 2:41:11I can find him as funny as I do so.
- 2:41:14So last weekend I drove down to Kentucky and I didn't have a
- 2:41:19support vehicle, so he lent me his Sequoia to drive all the way
- 2:41:24back to Indy to get the trans. And then.
- 2:41:26All the way back like the homie, like big shout out to.
- 2:41:30That's like they got new generation guys.
- 2:41:32Yeah, because he was. That's cool.
- 2:41:34What? Is he?
- 2:41:35He's the new next. Yeah, I say, yeah, yeah, they're
- 2:41:38younger. They're they're like, they're
- 2:41:39like frat Bros. They're probably crushing beers
- 2:41:41right now, working on working. On their arts, at the cars.
- 2:41:44At BRZ, BRZ, whatever he was, he was, he messaged me and asked
- 2:41:49me, yo, how do you get your car on the trailer?
- 2:41:52Because it's low and I'm renting A UHAUL.
- 2:41:54I know you rent uhauls and I was like, sometimes I just slap that
- 2:41:58shit on there like mad hard. And it's not good for the car,
- 2:42:02but it's what I got to do. But I told him, like, you know,
- 2:42:04get some wood. Lots of wood.
- 2:42:05That's so crazy. What the fuck?
- 2:42:08Yeah, that was sugar. Sugar.
- 2:42:09So. Yeah.
- 2:42:12Jordan from Do you guys remember Jordan from a team called
- 2:42:15Magnificent from the Northeast? It was a white S13, I believe,
- 2:42:22and it was one other guy too. I forget his name.
- 2:42:25We were. I just bring it up because he
- 2:42:26asked a question. But we were talking about the
- 2:42:27other day on the Lock City pod. Were they like?
- 2:42:31So not the dudes that were, like, wild as hell back in the
- 2:42:34day. Or maybe because he's talking
- 2:42:35about, he said. Not a question, but watching you
- 2:42:38guys pull up to ECB with the GTO towing in 86 was legendary.
- 2:42:42What? His tongue?
- 2:42:43Yeah, flat toe. He was GTO.
- 2:42:47The flat toe was 8/6. That must have been the same
- 2:42:49event I was at. But like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:42:52So Michael Tong, yeah, his his tow vehicle was a GTO at the
- 2:42:56time. What kind of GTO?
- 2:42:57Like one of those newer ones? Yeah, like the 2000, the one
- 2:43:00that. Has a LS2, yeah.
- 2:43:02Hey man, I mean, the engine can do it.
- 2:43:04Yeah, so yeah, he flat toed his hotchie all around with that
- 2:43:07thing. That's sick.
- 2:43:08It was. Pretty wild look, yo.
- 2:43:10More you guys need to do that shit, all right?
- 2:43:12I. Don't know if that's allowed in
- 2:43:14New Jersey. Probably can do that shit more.
- 2:43:16You guys gonna do some shit like that?
- 2:43:17That's cool. I mean, we're good, man.
- 2:43:24We don't need to ask all these. I I always end it with this.
- 2:43:28Like, yeah, the future of breaking.
- 2:43:31Like, you know, I feel like I know the answer already because
- 2:43:33you guys are just going to keep doing what you guys are doing,
- 2:43:36but what do you see the future of breaking being?
- 2:43:40Hopefully chilling. More grilling.
- 2:43:43Yes, some. Tired.
- 2:43:45Yeah, yeah. Not to not to give you guys any
- 2:43:50more praise than I probably already have on here, but I just
- 2:43:53want to say thank you for having cool cars.
- 2:43:55Thank you for coming out to English Town back then because I
- 2:43:59I can speak for myself, but I can probably speak for the Front
- 2:44:02St. guys too. That you you guys probably
- 2:44:04inspired a lot of us, so I appreciate that.
- 2:44:07And being here, dude, like we we mentioned something earlier and
- 2:44:10it kind of resonated with me, just cuz I'm not like that next
- 2:44:14next Gen. like young. But again, I'm still kind of.
- 2:44:18I dipped my toes in it for so many years and then now I'm
- 2:44:20like, kind of like, all right, let this shit rip now, Like,
- 2:44:23yeah, yeah, well, let's get fully immersive in it.
- 2:44:25And meeting people like you and and DK and being here in places
- 2:44:30like this and being able to have conversations like these, it's
- 2:44:32like, that's the shit where I'm gonna go home.
- 2:44:35And now I'm gonna be like, all right, this is what I got to do
- 2:44:39now. Like, I'm gonna do this.
- 2:44:40This is very motivated, right? I think you just gotta, like,
- 2:44:42realize like there's no. There's no timeline.
- 2:44:45Yeah. So, like, drifting isn't going
- 2:44:47anywhere. Yeah, just.
- 2:44:48Chill and like do it when you need to or like I feel.
- 2:44:50Like, I was worried that I was just like, I don't know, I was
- 2:44:53always where I I went to high school in places where, like,
- 2:44:56you're working on the car and they're like, he's into cars.
- 2:45:00Like, it's not like it wasn't the cool thing where I went to
- 2:45:03school. Say so like I was the only one
- 2:45:04in the. Yeah, I was just like, OK, like,
- 2:45:07I guess that's not really cool. And then I meet people like
- 2:45:10Frankie, like Chris, and I'm like, wait, this is actually
- 2:45:13kind of cool? No, I'm just like.
- 2:45:15Yeah, but I think you'll do it whether someone thinks it's
- 2:45:18cool. Or not.
- 2:45:19Yeah, I love it. If you like doing it, you're
- 2:45:21gonna do it no matter what. Even like a styling idea or
- 2:45:24something with your car. Like, as much as I want myself
- 2:45:28to think it's cool, like I put something on, I'm like, that
- 2:45:31shit is it? Yeah.
- 2:45:33Someone else doesn't like it. That's cool.
- 2:45:35Yeah, low key. You probably have shitty taste.
- 2:45:39But I'm gonna be like, for real. But it might be very super
- 2:45:43valid. And they'd be like, that sucks.
- 2:45:44I'm like, all right, that's cool, but I like it a lot.
- 2:45:46But it's also like, it's been one of those things where so
- 2:45:49many people have done it so well before us, and I'm trying to pay
- 2:45:54homage to the people that motivated me.
- 2:45:57Yeah. And I wanted to continue to pass
- 2:46:00that torch because what I think is important about it, I would
- 2:46:03like someone else to maybe take that into consideration.
- 2:46:07Yeah, for sure, dude. Yeah, like maybe you go to a
- 2:46:09track day one time and you see a car that you don't even it
- 2:46:12happens. I mean, you don't even know the
- 2:46:13guy. You've never seen it before and
- 2:46:14you're like, holy shit fuck yeah dude, I love that.
- 2:46:16Seeing a young kid and like a sick period like styled car, it
- 2:46:22doesn't even have to be period. But just like everything works,
- 2:46:25and as a young ass kid and I was like, you thought about
- 2:46:27everything that you put on that car and you're driving the shit
- 2:46:29out of it. Drifting is in a good place,
- 2:46:32yeah. Yeah, I mean, if it if you can
- 2:46:34help influence, you know, just someone to where it's like if
- 2:46:38you just see a random. I mean, think about how excited
- 2:46:41we still get to see like a random cool car that, you know,
- 2:46:46like and it's like, damn, I'm really oh, and it's like, oh,
- 2:46:49that kid's only like 20 years old, you know, it's like, yeah,
- 2:46:53that's that. You know, maybe it wasn't
- 2:46:55because you did what you were doing at this age, but like, it
- 2:46:58could have. Down that line helped someone
- 2:47:01else like get into something like.
- 2:47:03That, yeah. Yeah, damn.
- 2:47:04Well, thank you guys so much. Yeah.
- 2:47:06You have any other words? No.
- 2:47:08You guys have any other words you'd like to share or Thanks?
- 2:47:11Plug yourself or yeah, yeah. It's a good time.
- 2:47:13I wish we could have got like the Taylor Swift stuff like.
- 2:47:16There's not a lot, dude. Everybody knows Frankie's A
- 2:47:18swiffy, yeah. Well, you a Swiffy DK, said the
- 2:47:21new album Slap. Yeah, so that.
- 2:47:23Shocked me a little bit. Yeah, that shocked me a little
- 2:47:25bit. Yeah, because you know.
- 2:47:27Yeah, but that's what happens. Do we do these podcasts and like
- 2:47:30if we talk beforehand? We should have just been rolling
- 2:47:32mics. Yeah, yeah, like.
- 2:47:35Happens every fucking. I would say this is probably the
- 2:47:37longest we talk to anyone before we did the podcast right.
- 2:47:40Because we were chilling, man. We had brats and everything you
- 2:47:42had. Chips and shit.
- 2:47:43So fuck, that's. Thanks to my wife, yeah.
- 2:47:48Sandra, Yes. Thank you dude.
- 2:47:50She's the girl master around here.
- 2:47:51Yeah, yeah. All of a sudden there was brats
- 2:47:53coming out. I was like, when did you cook
- 2:47:55these? Like, yeah.
- 2:47:57But they'll be. There'll be more.
- 2:47:59Yeah, episodes. Hopefully when you guys get over
- 2:48:01to E Town we'll we'll have a party.
- 2:48:02Or some 100% if you guys come. Out there, we're doing this
- 2:48:05again. I we, I like to make, if we
- 2:48:07travel like make a thing about it like.
- 2:48:10Of course. Like to make sure we're just not
- 2:48:12like radar run there. Burn rubber head back home.
- 2:48:16No, no. No, no.
- 2:48:17Yeah. I mean, as you can see, we like
- 2:48:18to do. This chilling and relaxing and
- 2:48:20like like the track day is more like hanging out.
- 2:48:24Yeah, it's just vacation for us at this point.
- 2:48:26Yeah, yeah dude. I I mean, I didn't mean to put
- 2:48:29numbers, but when you said 16, I was like damn, 2 decades, like 2
- 2:48:35decades worth of driving and drifting and fuck.
- 2:48:39That's pretty awesome. That's fucking wild.
- 2:48:41That's crazy. Goes fast.
- 2:48:43Like, yeah. Yeah.
- 2:48:44God damn. Man, it goes faster.
- 2:48:46You don't have a car on the road too?
- 2:48:48I'm getting scared. All right, well, on that note,
- 2:48:52we're going to end this one and I hope you guys enjoyed it.
- 2:48:54Make sure you check out team breaking.
- 2:48:56We'll have your guys's handles in the in the show notes and
- 2:48:59then Street League. What is the Instagram for that?
- 2:49:03That's your street adrift, Andy. Yeah, and then Street League
- 2:49:07doesn't have its own handle. All right, cool.
- 2:49:09All right, guys, check those things out and let us know if
- 2:49:12you like this podcast. Yeah, and give us a review.
- 2:49:15Bye. Thank you.
- 2:49:18Thanks for listening to this episode of the podcast guys.

- 2:50:29You guys lived up to my expectations.
- 2:50:31So I appreciate it. I hope you can all drift
