Latest / Fandomonium! A Fandom Comedy Game Show / Nicolas Cage - Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vs The Heat-Seeking Panthers
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a Lilypad production.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Hello LeapFrogs, welcome back to Fandemonium, and we have a
- 0:07Speaker 2: very special episode for you this week. As you can
- 0:12Speaker 2: tell from the title, maybe not super clearly because it
- 0:15Speaker 2: could look as though it's a Dwayne the Rock Johnson episode,
- 0:18Speaker 2: which we may get to, this is our Nick Cage Fandemonium.
- 0:24Speaker 2: This episode came about because Ivan Grossman, brilliant improviser, member
- 0:28Speaker 2: of the flock, member of Pretendium. He revealed to me
- 0:32Speaker 2: a few months ago that he is a huge fan
- 0:35Speaker 2: of Nicolas Cage and has decorated his house in a
- 0:39Speaker 2: Nick Cage manner. That is very Fandemonium energy. We'd wanted
- 0:44Speaker 2: to record with Ivan for a bit now. It just
- 0:47Speaker 2: felt like the perfect time to put this episode together.
- 0:50Speaker 2: His fellow teammates, Charles Hogue, joined us on the panel
- 0:54Speaker 2: as well. Charles is a wonderful improviser. Great to have
- 0:57Speaker 2: two flock members on the same episode. And Charles is
- 1:01Speaker 2: also a sports fan. So I know I've been pushing
- 1:04Speaker 2: for sports-based fandomoniums for a bit now. We might finally
- 1:07Speaker 2: have found a sports fan gang, and his name is Charles.
- 1:11Speaker 2: And returning guest, Ethan Goldman, owner of the Peak Improv Theatre.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Comedy wizard, all-round legend. Always fantastic to have Ethan on
- 1:21Speaker 2: the lineup. They all joined Audra for this brilliantly unique fandomonium,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and it was unique because we did record it at
- 1:29Speaker 2: the Peak Improv Theatre, but it wasn't a ticketed event.
- 1:34Speaker 2: So it doesn't quite have the same anarchic live show energy,
- 1:37Speaker 2: something that on the next episode I promise will be there.
- 1:41Speaker 2: But the improv community here in Colorado Springs is so
- 1:45Speaker 2: brilliantly supportive that a great number of improvisers, performers, students...
- 1:51Speaker 2: stuck around after class and helped us make this show
- 1:55Speaker 2: happen whether they were helping behind the scenes on the
- 1:58Speaker 2: cameras or with the audio setup or if they were
- 2:01Speaker 2: just there being a fantastic audience they really made this
- 2:04Speaker 2: episode happen so it's a little more intimate than a
- 2:08Speaker 2: usual live show but has a little more energy than
- 2:11Speaker 2: a regular studio show it's kind of in between And
- 2:15Speaker 2: if you head over to atgateleaperspod on Instagram, over the
- 2:18Speaker 2: course of the next week or two, we will be
- 2:20Speaker 2: posting some clips from that record, where we filmed it
- 2:24Speaker 2: from a few different angles to try and get some
- 2:27Speaker 2: more unique clips posted. So you'll see how that looks
- 2:31Speaker 2: in the experiment. I've not actually made those clips yet.
- 2:34Speaker 2: I should probably do that. I'm recording this intro before
- 2:36Speaker 2: I do that.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Smart!
- 2:38Speaker 2: This was such a fun time. I just got finished
- 2:41Speaker 2: editing it and it brought me so much joy to
- 2:45Speaker 2: revisit this moment from last month. It's just a classic Fandemonium.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I love it so much. I love what I get
- 2:51Speaker 2: to do. I love how supported myself, Audra, and everyone
- 2:55Speaker 2: at Fandemonium feels by the improv community here in Colorado Springs.
- 3:01Speaker 2: And there's more exciting things on the horizon. But news
- 3:04Speaker 2: of that will be coming very soon. But for now,
- 3:07Speaker 2: we're just going to keep rolling with these fantastic fandemoniums.
- 3:11Speaker 2: So here it is, the fandemonium of Nicolas Cage. Hello
- 3:41Speaker 2: and welcome to Fandomonium, the pop culture game show that
- 3:44Speaker 2: shines a spotlight onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your games
- 3:47Speaker 2: master and rubber-faced FBI agent, Matt Watson. But a games
- 3:54Speaker 2: master needs games and games need players, so please welcome first.
- 3:57Speaker 2: She's our resident panelist, a podcaster and comedian who works
- 4:00Speaker 2: in STEM, which today stands for shamanic.
- 4:03Speaker 3: That's an extreme method. It's Audra Stevenson.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Woo!
- 4:08Speaker 5: Hello!
- 4:09Speaker 2: And he is an improviser, sandwich eater, and member of
- 4:12Speaker 2: the Flock and Pretendium.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And when I heard his house.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Was filled with Nick Cage merch, I immediately started writing
- 4:19Speaker 2: this episode.
- 4:20Speaker 3: It's Ivan Grossman!
- 4:24Speaker 1: Welcome, Audra and Ivan.
- 4:25Speaker 3: How are you both doing?
- 4:26Speaker 1: We're good. Sir, I'm good. No, no. You heard the gentleman.
- 4:34Speaker 1: We're good. Oh, no.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Excellent team camaraderie right out the gates there.
- 4:39Speaker 6: United.
- 4:40Speaker 7: Yes.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Fantastic.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Sorry, I've just noticed what's on the table, but I
- 4:44Speaker 2: won't address it yet. Ivan, we, as I said up top,
- 4:48Speaker 2: we all know you're a fan of Nicolas Cage. How
- 4:51Speaker 2: much of a fan of Nicolas Cage are you? You know,
- 4:55Speaker 2: I'm a decent fan.
- 4:56Speaker 8: I haven't seen all of his movies because there's so
- 4:58Speaker 8: dang many of them.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Sure.
- 5:01Speaker 8: But I really like the idea of him and I
- 5:04Speaker 8: find a lot of creative inspiration from him.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Okay, okay.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Yeah, we're going to pick apart liking the idea of him.
- 5:12Speaker 2: There's a lot to pick apart. And Audra, what about yourself?
- 5:15Speaker 2: Are you a fan of Nick Cage?
- 5:17Speaker 9: I have seen films.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Films, films, films.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Films, films, films, films, films.
- 5:27Speaker 9: I like being chanted at.
- 5:29Speaker 10: I know that it's like you're either a dictator or
- 5:32Speaker 10: you're about to be killed.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Or both, or both. To contain multitudes.
- 5:39Speaker 10: But to be able to be chanted at and it
- 5:41Speaker 10: not mean either of those things, absolutely incredible. I have
- 5:45Speaker 10: seen a few films. Nick Cage films, and every single
- 5:49Speaker 10: one of them has been a delight.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Okay, okay.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Well, it feels like you've got some knowledge, and Ivan's
- 5:54Speaker 2: bringing a good chunk of knowledge. Not all of them,
- 5:56Speaker 2: because he's made so many, but.
- 5:58Speaker 9: Jesus Christ.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Okay, well, now we're going to return to the pin
- 6:02Speaker 2: of what you like about Nicolas Cage, Ivan. What is
- 6:05Speaker 2: your favorite thing about Nick Cage?
- 6:09Speaker 1: I think... Of course, I don't know him as a person.
- 6:13Speaker 8: This could all be like celebrity propaganda and my life
- 6:19Speaker 8: is a lie. But his acting feels so sincere and
- 6:25Speaker 8: it comes from like he puts his whole into every
- 6:30Speaker 8: role that he's in.
- 6:31Speaker 3: He is there and he is. Fully invested into that role.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 3: He puts his whole hole into it.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Whole hole.
- 6:43Speaker 10: And I do know Nick Cage personally, and my favorite
- 6:46Speaker 10: thing about Nick Cage.
- 6:48Speaker 9: Is how he smells.
- 6:50Speaker 1: In the morning.
- 6:51Speaker 8: I bet you he does smell good.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 6:55Speaker 9: I bet he does smell good.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:59Speaker 2: And with that, Audra answered the question I had for
- 7:02Speaker 2: her on the document, so.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Give it up for Ivan and Audra.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Thank you. But they will need some opponents, someone to
- 7:09Speaker 2: face off with. That's the first reference of many. He
- 7:12Speaker 2: is a theater owner, program director, and improviser at the
- 7:15Speaker 2: Peak Improv Theater, and you can catch him on the
- 7:17Speaker 2: superhero TTRPG podcast Team Up. So I told him this
- 7:20Speaker 2: episode was about Luke Cage.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Surprise!
- 7:23Speaker 2: It's Ethan Goldman!
- 7:27Speaker 3: And he is an improviser, portal holer.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Portal holer!
- 7:34Speaker 2: And a member of Pilot Soup and The Flock, a
- 7:36Speaker 2: long-form improv team, and not those cameras that record you
- 7:39Speaker 2: as you leave the gym. It's Charles Hoag, if I've
- 7:42Speaker 2: pronounced that correctly.
- 7:43Speaker 1: You got it, buddy.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yes!
- 7:44Speaker 1: Hoag! Karate, piss hog. First time I've said it out loud.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Always a risk. Welcome, Ethan. Welcome, Charles.
- 7:53Speaker 3: How are you both doing?
- 7:54Speaker 1: We're good, thanks. I got you. Thank you, Ethan.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Glad you're both doing good. Ethan, let's start with you.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Are you a fan of Nicolas Cage?
- 8:07Speaker 1: I am. I would say medium fan. I agree with Ivan.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I love that he never phones anything in. and just
- 8:15Speaker 1: like puts his whole ass in there. I love his
- 8:19Speaker 1: whole ass, you know, like his ass, his whole, like
- 8:23Speaker 1: the whole ass of him is good. Yeah, you mentioned,
- 8:27Speaker 1: I don't know if you knew that, but the Cage
- 8:29Speaker 1: in Nicolas Cage does come from Luke Cage. Oh, does
- 8:32Speaker 1: it really? Yeah, he does. Yeah, he picked his own
- 8:34Speaker 1: last name because he's a Coppola, and that's a fun fact.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Yep.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Okay, yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Went with his like, one of his favorite comic book characters.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Yep, he loves Luke Cage. Nice, okay.
- 8:42Speaker 3: It was reference and you get to get some nerdy
- 8:44Speaker 3: superhero shit in.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Hell yeah.
- 8:46Speaker 10: Woo!
- 8:48Speaker 3: And Charles, what about yourself? Are you a fan of
- 8:50Speaker 3: Nick Cage?
- 8:51Speaker 11: I wouldn't call myself a fan necessarily.
- 8:53Speaker 6: I'm not like a Cage file like Diamond is over there.
- 8:58Speaker 6: But one of the things that him and I do
- 9:00Speaker 6: have in common, it's two things. It's that we both
- 9:03Speaker 6: love New Orleans, my favorite place to travel to in
- 9:06Speaker 6: the U.S., and we're both deeply in debt.
- 9:11Speaker 2: And Charles, it may come up later. Not your debt, sorry,
- 9:16Speaker 2: Nicolas Cage's. I'd like to ask you both, just because
- 9:22Speaker 2: it says here on my sheet, I've got to. Ethan,
- 9:24Speaker 2: what's your favourite thing about Nicolas Cage?
- 9:27Speaker 1: Ghost Rider.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, no, more superhero stuff on brand.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I like when his head turns into a flaming skull,
- 9:38Speaker 1: but it's still Nicolas Cage under there.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one of those scenarios where they hire an actor,
- 9:45Speaker 2: but then don't get to use his face.
- 9:47Speaker 3: So you've like overpaid.
- 9:48Speaker 1: It's the funniest thing.
- 9:52Speaker 2: So it's your favorite thing, and it's the funniest thing
- 9:54Speaker 2: about Nick Cage. Yeah, 100%.
- 9:56Speaker 1: It's like they're always covering up Tom Hardy's face for
- 9:59Speaker 1: some reason. in movies more Nick Cage face coverings please
- 10:05Speaker 1: love when we don't have to look at his face.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Any comment on that Ivan or how do you feel
- 10:10Speaker 3: about Nick Cage's face.
- 10:12Speaker 8: You know I love looking at his face but I
- 10:15Speaker 8: do agree that I like when he's a creature.
- 10:19Speaker 2: And what about yourself, Charles? What's your favorite thing about
- 10:24Speaker 2: Nicolas Cage?
- 10:26Speaker 6: You know, I love the wide range of emotions that
- 10:28Speaker 6: he's not afraid to get himself into. I feel like
- 10:31Speaker 6: you have him figured out one moment, and then, like,
- 10:33Speaker 6: he's just losing his mind the next.
- 10:35Speaker 11: And.
- 10:36Speaker 6: Yeah, it just really inspires me to be like.
- 10:38Speaker 1: That, you know?
- 10:40Speaker 2: Charles, I think I speak for everyone here when I
- 10:42Speaker 2: say I can't wait for you to lose your mind
- 10:44Speaker 2: in the next episode.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Okay, fantastic.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Now, before we move on to the next segment, I've
- 10:53Speaker 2: got six words on my document here that says, interrogate
- 10:56Speaker 2: Ivan's passion for Nick Cage. So I guess I'd like
- 10:59Speaker 2: to leave this open to the panel. I will throw
- 11:01Speaker 2: out the first fact I heard, and that's that you
- 11:04Speaker 2: have a lot of Nick Cage merch in your house.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Your house is decorated with Nick Cage furniture, merchandise? I
- 11:10Speaker 3: don't call it merch.
- 11:11Speaker 1: It's paraphernalia. It is.
- 11:16Speaker 8: I haven't necessarily purchased him merch, from him himself directly,
- 11:22Speaker 8: you know, but people have gifted it to me over
- 11:26Speaker 8: the years. I have pillows with his face on it.
- 11:30Speaker 8: I've got like one of those sequin pillows that you know.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Like change. What's on the other side? Is it just sequins? Yeah,
- 11:36Speaker 1: it's just blue. I was stoked that it was going
- 11:40Speaker 1: to be John Travolta. Write that down. Yeah, million dollar idea.
- 11:45Speaker 1: John Travolta, Nick Cage. John Travolta, Nick Cage. That would
- 11:47Speaker 1: be cool. I don't know if I want John Travolta's
- 11:49Speaker 1: face on my pillow. No, no, you want it.
- 11:52Speaker 8: I've got a big flesh colored Nicolas Cage face blanket.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Is it one of those blankets you can wear?
- 12:06Speaker 1: No, no.
- 12:07Speaker 8: It's one of those small kind of novelty blankets, so
- 12:10Speaker 8: it's more distressing than comfortable. I think that really speaks
- 12:15Speaker 8: to his acting.
- 12:19Speaker 10: He's not afraid to be distressed and uncomfortable. Yeah.
- 12:24Speaker 1: So it's like a small blanket?
- 12:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I'm a.
- 12:28Speaker 8: I don't know. I'm like a tall guy and it's
- 12:31Speaker 8: not long enough to cover me.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Doesn't cover your feet. Yeah. That sounds distressing.
- 12:36Speaker 8: But I drape it on my couch, so I open
- 12:39Speaker 8: the door and his face is just there.
- 12:43Speaker 3: So everyone else can be distressed by this. Yeah, and then,
- 12:47Speaker 3: of course, I have my framed beautiful portrait.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I believe.
- 12:52Speaker 8: This is from the 1999 edition of Rolling Stone magazine.
- 12:59Speaker 8: I have it on my desk where I do writing
- 13:02Speaker 8: and I draw inspiration from it. It fuels my creativity.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Look at the hair on that chest though. I know.
- 13:11Speaker 10: I was questioning if it was Rolling Stone and then
- 13:13Speaker 10: I saw the amount of visible chest hair.
- 13:17Speaker 9: All doubt was erased.
- 13:19Speaker 3: When I'm like stuck Creatively like writing. I'll like touch it.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Sure.
- 13:24Speaker 3: It's like good luck. I don't know. Yeah, you've got
- 13:26Speaker 3: to have rituals.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love that.
- 13:30Speaker 3: Thank you for bringing a portion of your terrifying house
- 13:33Speaker 3: in today.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Anyone else have any questions for Ivan about his deep
- 13:38Speaker 2: love of Nick Cage?
- 13:39Speaker 6: I have a question for you, Ivan. What was it
- 13:41Speaker 6: that like started your love of Nick Cage?
- 13:43Speaker 7: Sure.
- 13:44Speaker 1: What's your origin story? So I.
- 13:47Speaker 8: I think the first movie I ever saw of his
- 13:50Speaker 8: was National Treasure as a child.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 8: It was that and Ghost Rider, like the two that
- 13:56Speaker 8: stick out in my mind. And those didn't capture me
- 14:01Speaker 8: as a fan. It was honestly an ironic love of
- 14:04Speaker 8: the memes that were being created about him in the
- 14:07Speaker 8: early 2000s.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Sure.
- 14:07Speaker 8: And then as I delved into him more, I have
- 14:11Speaker 8: like a genuine love for him now.
- 14:14Speaker 2: That's really good. I'm going to say a nerdy cultural
- 14:17Speaker 2: thing right now and I might edit it out because
- 14:19Speaker 2: it's really boring. But this is like such a great
- 14:21Speaker 2: example of the era we're in now of post-ironic new
- 14:24Speaker 2: sincere where a lot of like young millennials, old Gen
- 14:27Speaker 2: Z grew up being like treating everything ironic or like
- 14:31Speaker 2: a meme, but then sorted between the things that they
- 14:34Speaker 2: actually did like and didn't like and sincerely carved a
- 14:36Speaker 2: path of love and joy of various things.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And that includes Nicolas Cage.
- 14:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 3: And I think his, his acting.
- 14:45Speaker 8: Style really helps like accentuates that because he, he doesn't
- 14:50Speaker 8: shoot for realism with like his portrayals of people.
- 14:54Speaker 1: It is incredibly like over the top.
- 14:57Speaker 8: Um, from what I understand, partially like some silent film era, German, uh, expressionism, yeah, expressionism, um,
- 15:06Speaker 8: where he doesn't seek to portray like a realistic person.
- 15:11Speaker 8: He seeks to portray these hyper characters and it kind
- 15:18Speaker 8: of like you said there's an irony there but you
- 15:22Speaker 8: know some people say it's bad acting i say it's
- 15:24Speaker 8: incredibly interesting to watch.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah you know agreed it's he's always whether i come
- 15:29Speaker 2: away thinking wow that was an amazing performance or a
- 15:31Speaker 2: bad performance.
- 15:32Speaker 10: It was always an interesting oh absolutely yeah And there
- 15:35Speaker 10: is a split of like, oh, that was bad, or
- 15:38Speaker 10: holy shit, that was incredible.
- 15:41Speaker 1: What is happening?
- 15:43Speaker 3: Okay, we've got poignant.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Quick, in the last 30 seconds, someone ask if he
- 15:46Speaker 2: does anything to the pillow.
- 15:51Speaker 3: I draw other kinds of inspiration from it.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Okay, teams, you arrive on the set of your uncle's
- 15:58Speaker 2: new movie, but you don't want your co-stars to accuse
- 16:01Speaker 2: you of nepotism. So you're going to need to change
- 16:03Speaker 2: your name to something memorable yet inconspicuous, like Steel Jail.
- 16:08Speaker 3: No, too macho, Nick Cage. Yeah, that's better.
- 16:13Speaker 2: With that in mind, I'd like each pair to come
- 16:15Speaker 2: up with a Nick Cage-themed team name, please.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Let's start with Audra and Ivan.
- 16:19Speaker 1: What have you got?
- 16:19Speaker 3: Any ideas?
- 16:21Speaker 10: I was thinking, oh, I'll like rework the name of
- 16:24Speaker 10: a film that he has.
- 16:26Speaker 9: And then there was so many movies, I got overwhelmed.
- 16:31Speaker 10: Um, so there we got the national treasures or the
- 16:37Speaker 10: Lords of war.
- 16:38Speaker 9: Those aren't changed.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Shit.
- 16:40Speaker 9: Uh, the, the bearable weight of talent.
- 16:49Speaker 8: Um, my thought, I forget what the interview was, but
- 16:55Speaker 8: he has this quote where he's, he's himself being interviewed.
- 16:59Speaker 1: It's not a character.
- 17:00Speaker 8: Um, And he says something along the lines of, I
- 17:03Speaker 8: am not a lion or a shark or a tiger.
- 17:07Speaker 3: I am a heat-seeking panther.
- 17:09Speaker 8: I like heat-seeking panthers.
- 17:16Speaker 2: All right, we've got the heat-seeking panthers. Excellent name. Let's
- 17:20Speaker 2: find out who they'll be facing. Ethan, Charles, any ideas?
- 17:23Speaker 1: Oh, boy. Well, I've got some real bangers, I think,
- 17:26Speaker 1: that I've thought of in the last 10 to 15 seconds,
- 17:30Speaker 1: which include the wicker men, the weather men, and the
- 17:36Speaker 1: con air boys.
- 17:39Speaker 6: I feel like it should be like a barbershop duet
- 17:42Speaker 6: being the, what was the last one?
- 17:44Speaker 1: Con Air Boys? Con Air Boys. Feels real lazy.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Did you have something better than that, Travis?
- 17:51Speaker 6: I found no inspiration for the name, so I'm of
- 17:53Speaker 6: no help, but I thought about it and I was like,
- 17:55Speaker 6: what would be a better name for a team name
- 17:57Speaker 6: for Nick Cage than just Nick Cage itself? And what
- 18:01Speaker 6: if we were just named Nick Cage? That is worse
- 18:06Speaker 6: than mine.
- 18:06Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Okay, oh, I have one other idea that just came
- 18:11Speaker 1: to me right now. Because he's in The Rock, right? Sure.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
- 18:18Speaker 3: A different person's name.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes.
- 18:21Speaker 2: There's a part of me that likes Charles because it's
- 18:24Speaker 2: so bad that it's good, which some people say Nick Cage.
- 18:27Speaker 2: That's his style, so it works on a couple levels.
- 18:29Speaker 2: But I also do like the idea of Nick. This
- 18:32Speaker 2: episode is titled Nick Cage, Dwayne The Rock Johnson versus.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Think of the SEO, Matt.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, they'll think we have two high-profile guests.
- 18:42Speaker 1: They'll think one of your guests is Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 18:47Speaker 9: Yeah, and he's fighting a sea panther.
- 18:49Speaker 3: We might fool some people.
- 18:50Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Okay, so you're going with Dwayne the Rock Johnson. Are
- 18:54Speaker 3: you happy with that, Charles?
- 18:55Speaker 1: I think we're happy with that.
- 18:56Speaker 3: All right, we've got Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah! Versus the.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Actually, I'm not writing these down today because we have
- 19:04Speaker 2: Kristen on scores.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Give it up for Kristen.
- 19:06Speaker 10: Woo!
- 19:08Speaker 3: Kristen, could you remind me of their team name?
- 19:10Speaker 10: We got Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 19:14Speaker 5: And we have Heat Seeking Panthers.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Heat Seeking Panthers.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Fantastic.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Also, we are trying something new with our studio record today.
- 19:26Speaker 2: So because we're going to do fancy things with cameras,
- 19:28Speaker 2: we needed more people. Please give it up for our
- 19:30Speaker 2: wonderful crew who you might be able to hear tonight.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Crew, crew, crew.
- 19:39Speaker 2: And for the six of you wonderful people sat in
- 19:41Speaker 2: the row, just pretend you're holding boom mics or something,
- 19:43Speaker 2: doing something else.
- 19:44Speaker 1: There's 30 of us!
- 19:47Speaker 11: Yeah!
- 19:52Speaker 3: Just Julia doing different voices.
- 19:55Speaker 2: No one's ever said that.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Okay, teams, are we ready for some games?
- 20:08Speaker 2: Okay, let's hop on our motorcycle and blaze a trail
- 20:11Speaker 2: for over-the-top performances in round one! Round one is called Listermania.
- 20:20Speaker 2: In turns, I will give each player a list of
- 20:22Speaker 2: five Nicolas Cage movies. They will have 90 seconds on
- 20:26Speaker 2: the clock to try and communicate all five movies for
- 20:28Speaker 2: their teammate to guess without using any of the words
- 20:31Speaker 2: in the title of the movie. They can describe the plot,
- 20:34Speaker 2: If they don't know the movie, give clues to the words,
- 20:37Speaker 2: or just make helpful sounds. All right, let me get
- 20:41Speaker 2: my little lists here.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Yes, paper.
- 20:49Speaker 2: And first up, we're gonna have Ivan describing for Audra
- 20:53Speaker 2: to guess. So Ivan, there is your list of five,
- 20:56Speaker 2: don't let Audra see.
- 20:58Speaker 9: I'm sweating.
- 20:59Speaker 11: Just like Nick Cage.
- 21:02Speaker 9: I'm in the zone.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Didn't set it before, so it's gonna make this clicking noise.
- 21:08Speaker 8: Click, click, click, click, click, click, click.
- 21:12Speaker 3: I did it one too many.
- 21:13Speaker 2: They're gonna have one extra second and we're all gonna
- 21:17Speaker 2: be okay with it.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Scandals.
- 21:19Speaker 11: Reeks. Wait, he doesn't go to protests.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I saw in the moment a need to rely on
- 21:28Speaker 2: writing down the team names and I've completely forgotten. Hypersonic Panthers,
- 21:32Speaker 2: something like that?
- 21:33Speaker 1: No, Heat Seeking Panthers! It's piss hot, man. Right?
- 21:37Speaker 2: Heat Seeking Panthers, are you ready?
- 21:40Speaker 1: Yes.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Your time starts now. Gotta steal that Declaration of Independence.
- 21:50Speaker 10: National Treasure 1!
- 21:51Speaker 11: Yeah, uh.
- 21:53Speaker 3: I'm spooky and I'm on a motorcycle.
- 21:56Speaker 9: Ghost rider.
- 21:59Speaker 3: I'm like, I make magic happen.
- 22:04Speaker 9: Nicholas Cage.
- 22:05Speaker 8: No, I'm like a wizard, but not quite a wizard.
- 22:09Speaker 6: A magician?
- 22:09Speaker 3: And I study under somebody.
- 22:12Speaker 9: A magician's apprentice.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Close, close, close.
- 22:15Speaker 9: The wizard's apprentice?
- 22:16Speaker 3: Yeah, the other kind of wizard.
- 22:16Speaker 9: The sorcerer's apprentice.
- 22:20Speaker 8: This is a national tragedy. And it doesn't exist anymore.
- 22:27Speaker 8: Because it got blown up in a very famous attack.
- 22:30Speaker 10: Okay, just the Empire State Building?
- 22:33Speaker 11: The Twin Towers?
- 22:34Speaker 1: No, that's still there. That's still there.
- 22:38Speaker 3: There was two of them.
- 22:39Speaker 9: No, the Twin Towers? I don't remember what the.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Kind of, but the other name.
- 22:43Speaker 10: World Trade Center.
- 22:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Oh, man, he was an alcoholic in this one, and
- 22:52Speaker 3: he loved pills. He was a cop.
- 22:56Speaker 1: He was a cop.
- 22:58Speaker 3: There's a rank of a cop that I think is
- 23:00Speaker 3: above a sergeant. Oh.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Captain.
- 23:04Speaker 3: No, longer.
- 23:04Speaker 8: Kurt, a lieutenant. Yes, and he's not a good lieutenant.
- 23:10Speaker 8: A bad lieutenant. And then there's a long afterwards.
- 23:14Speaker 1: That's your time, I'm afraid. That was great.
- 23:20Speaker 3: You got four out of five full points there.
- 23:24Speaker 1: Pretty successful.
- 23:26Speaker 11: Sure.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 23:28Speaker 3: It was bad lieutenant, port of call, New Orleans.
- 23:33Speaker 2: It was a long one, but you got World Trade Center.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:38Speaker 9: Eventually. God, we eventually got there.
- 23:41Speaker 1: You said National Tragedy, and I was like, is that
- 23:43Speaker 1: one of the sequels to National Tragedy?
- 23:49Speaker 10: God, I'm such a coward. You said National Tragedy, and
- 23:51Speaker 10: I almost just said 9-11. And everyone would have done this.
- 23:55Speaker 1: And everyone. Not like when King Kong destroyed the Empire
- 23:59Speaker 1: State Building.
- 24:02Speaker 10: Hey, I'm going to be so real, if it's.
- 24:06Speaker 9: Above four stories, I don't give a shit.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I don't give a shit.
- 24:15Speaker 3: It's like the hubris of man or something.
- 24:17Speaker 9: Uh-huh. Why do we got to be up there?
- 24:20Speaker 6: Yeah!
- 24:22Speaker 3: The people are on your side.
- 24:23Speaker 2: All right, next up, we have Ethan giving clues for
- 24:26Speaker 2: Charles over.
- 24:27Speaker 3: On Team Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Here we go, Dwayne.
- 24:31Speaker 11: Nice.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Do we get an extra second also? You do also
- 24:33Speaker 1: get an extra second.
- 24:34Speaker 2: We're doing this one minute and 31 seconds.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Are you ready? Time starts now.
- 24:39Speaker 1: The front part of his head's trading. Face-off. Yep, that's it. Leaving, but...
- 24:48Speaker 1: Leaving Las Vegas? But like a minute. There's only a minute. Oh,
- 24:51Speaker 1: Gone in 60 Seconds.
- 24:54Speaker 10: Pew!
- 24:55Speaker 1: Pew, pew, pew, but from your wrists, you know? Spider-Man.
- 24:59Speaker 6: Well, yeah, but then there's like the other part. Oh,
- 25:02Speaker 6: the Spider-Man, the animated one, is the Into the Spider-Verse.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Yes!
- 25:08Speaker 11: Good call!
- 25:09Speaker 1: Not walking, but, like, you know, faster. You got to
- 25:12Speaker 1: go with more arms. Running man. Yeah, first part. But,
- 25:17Speaker 1: you know, the Lord isn't involved. It's the opposite. Running devil.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Running Satan. It's like you got a friend that's hanging
- 25:27Speaker 1: out with you alongside your journey as you're going and
- 25:33Speaker 1: moving through space. They're, like... Running? What do you do
- 25:38Speaker 1: with the bulls in Madrid? You.
- 25:44Speaker 1: You run away from them. If you have a sandwich
- 25:49Speaker 1: and you want pickles on it, how would you order that?
- 25:51Speaker 1: Just like the word... Sandwich with pickles, please. So yeah,
- 25:54Speaker 1: put that in the middle of those other two words
- 25:56Speaker 1: you said where it was moving and with bad men.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Running with the devil. Yeah!
- 26:00Speaker 2: That's cool!
- 26:01Speaker 3: Ten seconds.
- 26:03Speaker 1: The rank that is lower than a lieutenant. A captain
- 26:07Speaker 1: with underpants. And a spaghetti, I guess. That's your time.
- 26:12Speaker 11: Captain Ravioli?
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that's probably it.
- 26:16Speaker 3: That was a really tough one, Ethan. Do you want
- 26:17Speaker 3: to read what that last one was?
- 26:18Speaker 1: Sure, yeah. Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Yeah.
- 26:22Speaker 3: You familiar with that one, Ivan?
- 26:22Speaker 8: Yeah, from what I understand, he actually learned how to
- 26:25Speaker 8: play the mandolin for that movie.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:28Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 1: He is a method actor right here. Kind of.
- 26:33Speaker 3: More than method. It's different than method.
- 26:34Speaker 1: It's different than method.
- 26:35Speaker 3: He did all of his stunts and guns in 60 seconds.
- 26:37Speaker 3: It's nouveau shamanic.
- 26:41Speaker 1: That's what it is.
- 26:42Speaker 3: He started with method.
- 26:43Speaker 10: It's method, but I respect it.
- 26:46Speaker 9: Don't respect method, but I do respect.
- 26:48Speaker 1: What Nick Cage does. Yeah, because he's not being a
- 26:50Speaker 1: dick to everyone just for the sake. He can stop
- 26:53Speaker 1: acting when he wants to. The cameras turn off.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:56Speaker 1: But he's just, like, real hard. He's pretending real hard.
- 26:59Speaker 3: There's just, like, a spiritualism with it.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:02Speaker 8: I think in Ghost Rider, he, like, sewed, like, all
- 27:05Speaker 8: kinds of, like, trinkets and stuff inside of his jacket to, like,
- 27:09Speaker 8: get the juice from them.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Yeah, the juice. The jacket juice.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Like the picture.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Like it does for you. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Probably more the pillow has juice, right?
- 27:18Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm sorry?
- 27:19Speaker 11: Like haunted stuff.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Yeah, kinda.
- 27:22Speaker 8: Yeah, like haunted trinkets and stuff. Because it made him
- 27:25Speaker 8: feel closer to the character of Ghost Rider.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Nouveau shamanic.
- 27:30Speaker 9: God, can I just try that for life?
- 27:34Speaker 3: You can, that's the beauty of it.
- 27:38Speaker 10: Does Nicolas Cage have, I'm so sorry to derail this,
- 27:41Speaker 10: is there a fan name for Nicolas Cage?
- 27:44Speaker 1: You mean like for the fandom? Like Nicholas?
- 27:47Speaker 9: All I can think of is cage fighters.
- 27:49Speaker 1: That's pretty good.
- 27:52Speaker 11: Cage heads.
- 27:53Speaker 9: Cage heads.
- 27:55Speaker 1: The bees.
- 27:56Speaker 3: The bees.
- 27:57Speaker 1: The subreddit is called One True God.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 28:02Speaker 3: One True Gods. But then the plural doesn't work.
- 28:05Speaker 9: Christians.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Okay, we have two more lists here. This time it
- 28:11Speaker 2: will be Audra giving clues for Ivan.
- 28:14Speaker 9: I was stalling.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Can I, may I look at these? Yes, because your
- 28:19Speaker 3: time starts now.
- 28:24Speaker 9: What happens in?
- 28:25Speaker 2: Vegas? Yes.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Leaving Las Vegas?
- 28:29Speaker 11: Yes.
- 28:29Speaker 3: Leaving Las Vegas.
- 28:30Speaker 10: Yes. Putting your foot at someone's butt real hard.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Kick ass.
- 28:40Speaker 10: I made a joke about this as one of the
- 28:42Speaker 10: name suggestions, but it's, God.
- 28:45Speaker 9: I'm so good at this.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Oh, the unbearable weight of massive talent?
- 28:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay.
- 28:52Speaker 9: This one, I just don't have a great feeling about.
- 28:56Speaker 9: But there's a breeze, but it's more.
- 28:59Speaker 10: Oh.
- 29:00Speaker 9: And then you're speaking.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Heavy breeze.
- 29:04Speaker 9: And speaking.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Heavy breeze, but speaking. Oh.
- 29:12Speaker 3: It's there, but it's not.
- 29:13Speaker 1: You got 40 seconds? I'll skip to the next one.
- 29:17Speaker 10: Like when you're driving on the road and you go
- 29:19Speaker 10: to the side and it's like the strips and it's
- 29:20Speaker 10: like da-da-da-da-da-da.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
- 29:24Speaker 10: Yeah. What are those?
- 29:25Speaker 9: What is the first word.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Of what those are called? Speed bump? Bump strips? What
- 29:31Speaker 3: are they called?
- 29:32Speaker 4: Or.
- 29:34Speaker 10: If you have any passing knowledge of professional wrestling.
- 29:38Speaker 9: Let's get ready to.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Rumble strips.
- 29:42Speaker 9: Okay. So the first word there.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Rumble.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Rumble fish. Rumble fish.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:48Speaker 9: Now back to a.
- 29:51Speaker 10: Heavy breeze.
- 29:52Speaker 1: That's your time.
- 29:52Speaker 2: That was one of them.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Talking, talking.
- 29:57Speaker 1: You know it.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Oh, I feel like I know it.
- 30:00Speaker 9: Do you want me to tell you?
- 30:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going to be disappointed, but yeah.
- 30:03Speaker 9: Wind Talker.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Yes!
- 30:06Speaker 1: It's such a good movie!
- 30:07Speaker 9: Okay, it's good. I just, I don't, I don't know why.
- 30:11Speaker 9: I just was trepidatious.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Nick Cage might be playing a Native American. Yes.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes.
- 30:18Speaker 9: That's what I thought the movie was.
- 30:20Speaker 1: But his level of commitment, you know.
- 30:22Speaker 8: He really embodies a nouveau chemin. He actually asked a
- 30:26Speaker 8: shaman to put a Native American in it.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Now I'm on board.
- 30:33Speaker 9: Okay.
- 30:36Speaker 3: But that's still four points.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Fantastic stuff.
- 30:40Speaker 2: We have one more list, this time Charles giving clues
- 30:43Speaker 2: for Ethan.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Are you ready? You got this. Just think of Dwayne
- 30:47Speaker 1: the Rock. Your time starts now.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Okay, this is bad stuff that you breathe in.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Asbestos? Poison?
- 30:58Speaker 2: Lead?
- 30:59Speaker 1: It's not a pro, but it's a... Con air? Yeah! Wee, wee, wee, wee, wee, wee! Pig,
- 31:06Speaker 1: sad pig, big pig, pig, pig!
- 31:11Speaker 11: You know, when the air just gets this way, but
- 31:13Speaker 11: you're feeling a little spooky.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Eerie, humid, mist, fog.
- 31:20Speaker 6: You know, when we go from fall into winter.
- 31:25Speaker 11: Yeah, and that's the changing of the season.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Of the witch.
- 31:30Speaker 6: And I'll tell you what, Ethan, you can really do
- 31:32Speaker 6: it all. You really are able to do a lot
- 31:35Speaker 6: of things.
- 31:36Speaker 1: This. Ghost riding.
- 31:41Speaker 6: I'm going to skip over to the next one. I'll
- 31:44Speaker 6: tell you what, your dad really knows how.
- 31:46Speaker 1: To work a lathe. Woodworking?
- 31:50Speaker 11: Carpentry?
- 31:50Speaker 1: Carpenter?
- 31:53Speaker 11: But it's your dad who does it, and you are his?
- 31:55Speaker 1: Son of the carpenter? Son of a carpenter.
- 31:58Speaker 11: Uh, you got to kind of twist it around.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Carpenter's son. Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 6: Um, and then, uh, yeah, you, let's see, uh, National Treasure.
- 32:15Speaker 11: You can do anything in any circumstance.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Super.
- 32:19Speaker 11: But it's a longer version of this word.
- 32:21Speaker 1: That I've never used.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 32:22Speaker 1: The Mr. McGoriams Wonder Emporium. That's your time. You got it, right? Almost.
- 32:26Speaker 3: It was almost Mr. McGoriams Wonder Emporium.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Adaptation.
- 32:31Speaker 10: Oh.
- 32:32Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of these movies. That's a really
- 32:33Speaker 1: good movie.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Probably my favorite Nick Cage movie.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Is that the one? It's up there. The potted plant
- 32:37Speaker 1: that's like on the ground and it's like his face.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. That's the post-it part.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 32:44Speaker 3: There are two of Nick Cage's. That might be why
- 32:46Speaker 3: Ivan likes it.
- 32:46Speaker 10: Yes.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Yeah, he plays two different versions, like twin brothers.
- 32:51Speaker 11: Oh, if you liked John Malkovich, being John Malkovich.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Would be great. It's such a good movie. Nick Cage
- 32:55Speaker 1: isn't in that. Yeah, he doesn't, though. He's got a lane.
- 33:02Speaker 8: Adaptation's actually meant as like a pseudo-sequel for that.
- 33:06Speaker 3: What is? Yeah, yeah.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Adaptation. It really is? Yeah.
- 33:10Speaker 10: Oh, really?
- 33:10Speaker 3: It's the same writer.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the same.
- 33:13Speaker 2: We'll do the Charlie Kaufman episode of Fandemonium in... Like.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Three years?
- 33:19Speaker 3: Five, ten years.
- 33:21Speaker 1: When he's more relevant than ever.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Charles, Ethan, that was... Sorry, Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Thank you. That was amazing.
- 33:29Speaker 3: I think you also got four points.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Yay!
- 33:32Speaker 3: That is the end of round one.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Let's use the power of nepotism to calculate the latest scores.
- 33:37Speaker 2: Nepotism makes numbers go up. Kristen, what are those latest scores?
- 33:42Speaker 5: We got the heat-seeking panthers at eight points.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Woo!
- 33:49Speaker 5: And we have Dwayne The Rock Johnson also sitting at
- 33:51Speaker 5: eight points, so we're.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Out of time. All right.
- 33:56Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 33:56Speaker 1: The Rock's famous catchphrase. Where he's the Kool-Aid man. That's
- 34:01Speaker 1: what you've decided. That's what we've decided.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Up next is round two after these ads for pachinko machines.
- 34:07Speaker 2: I'm on my way, Japan. Round two is called Rotten
- 34:17Speaker 2: You Say Tomatoes, I Say Tomatoes. In this game, thank you, Troy.
- 34:21Speaker 2: In this game, our teams will compose original reviews for
- 34:23Speaker 2: Nick Cage movies suggested by our wonderful crew here tonight.
- 34:28Speaker 2: And they will deliver those reviews one word at a
- 34:31Speaker 2: time back and forth between teammates. The percentage score of
- 34:35Speaker 2: your Rotten Tomatoes, and that's how it's pronounced, review will
- 34:38Speaker 2: be decided by a roll of this D100.
- 34:40Speaker 11: And.
- 34:42Speaker 2: The outlet you'll be writing for will be decided by
- 34:44Speaker 2: a spin of this wheel.
- 34:47Speaker 3: Thank you very much. Not sure it needed the R's.
- 34:55Speaker 3: So we all understand? We're good with this?
- 34:57Speaker 1: Good with it.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Sweet.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Okay. Thank you, Charles.
- 35:01Speaker 2: So I think we'll have, yeah, let's have Ethan and
- 35:04Speaker 2: Charles go first. After that little piss hog comment. That's
- 35:07Speaker 2: how Dwayne the Rock Johnson goes first.
- 35:11Speaker 1: If it walks like a piss hog, it jogs like
- 35:13Speaker 1: a piss hog. And it quacks like a piss hog.
- 35:17Speaker 1: The most beautiful animal in nature. The piss hog.
- 35:21Speaker 2: So what is a Nick Cage movie you would like
- 35:24Speaker 2: Dwayne the Rock Johnson to review?
- 35:27Speaker 9: Valley Girl.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Valley Girl? It's the first thing I heard. We're going
- 35:32Speaker 1: to review Valley Girl. Sounds like a movie. Yeah, sure.
- 35:36Speaker 3: And you are giving Valley Girl 19%.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Dislike.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Not a positive review.
- 35:43Speaker 2: And you are writing that 19% review of Valley Girl for.
- 35:49Speaker 3: The New Scientist. Is it a science journal?
- 35:53Speaker 2: It's a science journal, yes. Just add a little science
- 35:56Speaker 2: slant to it.
- 35:56Speaker 1: You got it.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Alright, and I'll cut you off when I feel like it,
- 36:00Speaker 2: but otherwise, one word at a time, take away your
- 36:02Speaker 2: 19% review of Valley Girl for the new scientist.
- 36:07Speaker 7: Science says that Movies should be good. However, Valley Girl
- 36:18Speaker 7: is not good. Because science says that movies should be pH.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Balanced, we at Scientific... Journal believe that Valley Girl has
- 36:44Speaker 1: high acidity.
- 36:49Speaker 4: Based on our studies, we find that Nicolas Cage is sexy.
- 37:00Speaker 1: But the Valley Girl was bad.
- 37:04Speaker 11: All right, give it up for them.
- 37:09Speaker 2: I like at one point it wasn't New Scientist, it
- 37:11Speaker 2: was Science Journal. That was fantastic. You got in Nicolas Cage.
- 37:19Speaker 3: That's good.
- 37:19Speaker 2: I was going to deduct points for not mentioning Nicolas Cage,
- 37:21Speaker 2: but you got Nicolas Cage in there.
- 37:23Speaker 1: Yeah, well done. Good job saying Cage after I said Nicolas.
- 37:27Speaker 6: I thought you said like Sparks or something.
- 37:32Speaker 2: And then you got pH levels and the movie should
- 37:34Speaker 2: be pH balanced.
- 37:36Speaker 3: I like the journal.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Is Instead of two thumbs up, they're just giving it
- 37:40Speaker 1: the pH-based score.
- 37:43Speaker 2: But yeah, it should be balanced. This was not balanced.
- 37:46Speaker 2: This was a very alkaline movie.
- 37:47Speaker 7: Oh, yes.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and that sounded like a 19% review. I'm going
- 37:52Speaker 2: to give you four out of five points for that.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Good stuff.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Well, that's what Dwayne the Rock Johnson has to say
- 37:58Speaker 2: about movies. But what about the heat-seeking panthers?
- 38:02Speaker 3: That was right, right?
- 38:03Speaker 6: Nice.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Okay, can I get the name of another Nicolas Cage
- 38:08Speaker 3: movie for the heat-seeking... Moonstruck.
- 38:12Speaker 9: Monkey Business.
- 38:13Speaker 2: National Treasure 2. Sorry, was Willy's Wonderland a movie?
- 38:17Speaker 6: Yes.
- 38:19Speaker 1: It doesn't say a single word.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Okay, there's less to work with there, but that is
- 38:22Speaker 2: a very silly name.
- 38:23Speaker 1: He's the main character.
- 38:24Speaker 11: Whoa.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Okay, this is just something I'm going to watch when
- 38:26Speaker 2: I get home. We've not mentioned Moonstruck yet. Let's do Moonstruck, okay?
- 38:32Speaker 2: Let's find out the percentage score of Moonstruck there. Wow,
- 38:37Speaker 2: we've got low reviews today. It's 12. It's 12%, even
- 38:42Speaker 2: worse than Valley Girl. A 12% review of Moonstruck for.
- 38:51Speaker 3: RogerEbert.com. Speaking of two thumbs up.
- 38:56Speaker 9: I'm going to be so for real.
- 38:58Speaker 10: I did see your screen out the side and I
- 39:00Speaker 10: was like, God. That's the one I really don't want. Hey,
- 39:05Speaker 10: it's a studio record. We can spin it again if
- 39:06Speaker 10: you want.
- 39:07Speaker 5: Please.
- 39:09Speaker 9: How much do you love me?
- 39:11Speaker 3: Well, I didn't think you'd say yes to it. I
- 39:13Speaker 3: thought you'd just accept it, so.
- 39:14Speaker 9: Damn, no, we're doing it.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Okay, nice. If it's fair, I don't know who that is.
- 39:18Speaker 9: It's fine.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Then we'll figure. Height of your knowledge of what Roger
- 39:23Speaker 2: Ebert does.
- 39:23Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll recreate Roger.
- 39:25Speaker 10: Yes.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Matt, just give them an extra second on the clock. Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 39:29Speaker 1: It's that time.
- 39:30Speaker 2: It's that time. You got an extra word. A 12%
- 39:33Speaker 2: review of Moonstruck for RogerEbert.com.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Take it away. Roger. Ebert.
- 39:41Speaker 3: Hates.
- 39:42Speaker 1: This. Movie. Nicholas.
- 39:47Speaker 11: Nicholas.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Frickin'. Cage.
- 39:52Speaker 6: I'm.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Going.
- 39:55Speaker 10: For. You.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Watch. Your.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Back. I.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Roger.
- 40:06Speaker 11: Ebert.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Have. To.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Lift.
- 40:13Speaker 11: Many.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Weights.
- 40:17Speaker 2: To.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Challenge.
- 40:19Speaker 4: You.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Nicholas.
- 40:22Speaker 10: Freaking.
- 40:23Speaker 1: Cage.
- 40:25Speaker 2: But.
- 40:27Speaker 10: Roger.
- 40:27Speaker 11: Ebert.
- 40:28Speaker 10: Has.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Too.
- 40:28Speaker 7: Many.
- 40:28Speaker 6: Weights.
- 40:28Speaker 2: And.
- 40:28Speaker 10: So.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Roger.
- 40:29Speaker 11: Ebert.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Can't.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Manage.
- 40:32Speaker 8: To.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Not. Love.
- 40:54Speaker 7: No.
- 40:55Speaker 1: What? Roger.
- 40:57Speaker 11: He burns.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Does.
- 41:02Speaker 11: All right, that's it. That's our review.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 41:08Speaker 10: Okay, here. So you can't tell me that wasn't Roger Ebert.
- 41:14Speaker 10: And you know it was a good performance because I'm
- 41:16Speaker 10: defending it before you.
- 41:20Speaker 9: So you definitely know that that was Roger Ebert.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Hey, look, I think you addressed Roger Ebert plenty. I
- 41:27Speaker 2: just think we didn't hear anything about Moonstruck. So, I think, well,
- 41:35Speaker 2: I liked how Roger Ebert was like in third person,
- 41:38Speaker 2: then first person, then third person. Couldn't decide.
- 41:42Speaker 10: He's a man who is struggling, Matt, and it's rude
- 41:46Speaker 10: of you to call that out.
- 41:47Speaker 3: He has been struck by the moon. He's struggling a
- 41:49Speaker 3: lot now because he's dead.
- 41:52Speaker 2: He was probably alive at the time that Moonstruck was written.
- 41:56Speaker 2: And so I believe that that was, I was convinced
- 41:59Speaker 2: that that was for a RogerEbert.com because you said his
- 42:01Speaker 2: name so many times. I'm going to give you three
- 42:03Speaker 2: out of five points for that.
- 42:04Speaker 1: I liked how you characterized Roger Ebert as the Hulk, basically.
- 42:11Speaker 11: Roger.
- 42:12Speaker 1: Roger Ebert.
- 42:13Speaker 10: Fun fact, him and Oprah dated back in the 80s.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Roger Ebert? Damn, Roger.
- 42:19Speaker 1: He's got game. Yeah, he does.
- 42:23Speaker 3: Oh, fantastic. Oh, it's my turn to talk.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Hit her!
- 42:30Speaker 3: Okay, that is the end of the round.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Let's use lemon juice and hot air to reveal the
- 42:34Speaker 2: latest scores. Literally the two elements that make up this podcast.
- 42:37Speaker 5: We got the heat-seeking Panthers at 11 points.
- 42:44Speaker 9: And we have Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
- 42:48Speaker 1: What is that? The people's tricep.
- 43:00Speaker 2: Round three is called Cage at the Oscars. Now, Ivan,
- 43:04Speaker 2: how much of a crime is it that Nicolas Cage
- 43:06Speaker 2: has only won one Academy Award?
- 43:11Speaker 3: It's a crime, but I understand why.
- 43:13Speaker 8: What?
- 43:17Speaker 2: Well, what if I told you, Ivan, that tonight he's
- 43:20Speaker 2: going to win four Oscar statuettes?
- 43:24Speaker 3: I'd like that.
- 43:25Speaker 6: All right.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Well, in this game, we are going to get suggestions
- 43:28Speaker 2: for titles of Nick Cage movies that don't exist. Possibly yet.
- 43:33Speaker 2: They may after tonight. In turns, our players will take
- 43:36Speaker 2: on the role of Nick Cage. First, we'll see a
- 43:39Speaker 2: short clip from that movie in the form of a
- 43:42Speaker 2: three-line scene initiated by The Cage and aided by their
- 43:45Speaker 2: teammate delivering the second line. Then, after a round of
- 43:49Speaker 2: applause for the clip, I will announce the winner of
- 43:51Speaker 2: the Academy Award, at which point our Cage will receive
- 43:54Speaker 2: the Oscar and deliver a one-minute thank-you speech. Points out
- 43:58Speaker 2: of five for remembering to thank everyone, whatever that means
- 44:02Speaker 2: to you, for fleshing out the plot and themes of
- 44:04Speaker 2: your suggested movie title plus three-line scene, and for any
- 44:08Speaker 2: cage impersonation you attempt. That's not a necessity, but know
- 44:13Speaker 2: if you attempt it, I will give you a point.
- 44:14Speaker 11: Yeah!
- 44:16Speaker 1: Okay.
- 44:19Speaker 2: I've got to get my Academy Awards ready.
- 44:26Speaker 1: I can see how big the box is, and they
- 44:27Speaker 1: seem real.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Okay, so first of all, we need the suggestion of
- 44:36Speaker 2: a Nick Cage movie that doesn't exist. And I'm going
- 44:38Speaker 2: to ask for four of these. Coming again.
- 44:42Speaker 1: What was that?
- 44:42Speaker 11: The Orthodontist.
- 44:43Speaker 3: The Orthodontist.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I love it.
- 44:45Speaker 2: He often takes profession type ones. And I think we're
- 44:48Speaker 2: going to have Ethan be our Cage first. Ethan is
- 44:51Speaker 2: Nick Cage who starred in The Orthodontist. So first things first,
- 44:57Speaker 2: let's see a short clip from The Orthodontist.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Let me get in those gums. Whoa!
- 45:09Speaker 10: But orthodontist, I can't open my mouth.
- 45:14Speaker 1: It's okay. We'll give you the gas and then we'll
- 45:17Speaker 1: get on this motorcycle.
- 45:24Speaker 3: And the Oscar goes to Nicholas Cage for the orthodontist.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Oh, whoa. I'd like to thank the School of Orthodontia.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Four out of five of them supported me in this effort.
- 45:48Speaker 1: I'd like to thank Oprah, who dated Roger Ebert in
- 45:51Speaker 1: the 80s, for reviewing this movie so, so good, and
- 45:56Speaker 1: for how often he said his own name. I'd love
- 46:00Speaker 1: to thank Canine Teeth, specifically, the rest of them, Go
- 46:05Speaker 1: fuck yourself. Wisdom teeth, not today. I love to thank
- 46:13Speaker 1: everyone but my family. I'm trying to distance myself from
- 46:16Speaker 1: them and their name. Huge props to the special effects
- 46:20Speaker 1: department for CGI-ing my hands back into the film. I
- 46:25Speaker 1: was wearing the wrong kind of gloves and I couldn't stop.
- 46:29Speaker 1: So my hands, fun fact, are CG high in this movie.
- 46:33Speaker 1: And last, Benjamin Franklin, my real life hero. They're playing
- 46:37Speaker 1: him off.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Nick Cage has won an Oscar. And look, it had
- 46:43Speaker 2: the thank yous, it had more movie details, and it
- 46:46Speaker 2: had the Nick Cage impression. That's a full five out
- 46:48Speaker 2: of five points for you.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I was worried I didn't understand the game. No, you
- 46:53Speaker 1: nailed it.
- 46:54Speaker 3: That's exactly what I dreamed of.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Oh, fantastic.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Okay, Nick Cage still has to win three Academy Awards.
- 47:03Speaker 2: It's a busy night for Nick Cage. Up next is Ivan.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Let's find out the movie that Ivan's Nick Cage starred in.
- 47:10Speaker 11: National Tragedy.
- 47:11Speaker 2: I think we've got to do National Tragedy. I think
- 47:16Speaker 2: we've got to do National Tragedy. Okay, so first up,
- 47:18Speaker 2: let's see a scene from National Tragedy.
- 47:28Speaker 3: Oh, baby, the people are dying. The people are dying.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Dying en masse.
- 47:35Speaker 9: Let them die, darling. This world is ours now.
- 47:40Speaker 12: Oh, Sheila, I love that hot, trotting way that you
- 47:43Speaker 12: got about you. Oh, yeah!
- 47:51Speaker 3: And the Oscar goes to.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Nicholas Cage! Woo!
- 48:01Speaker 3: All right, your speech begins now.
- 48:04Speaker 8: Well, I just want to thank my hero, Elvis, Elvis Presley,
- 48:10Speaker 8: the living legend who ain't living anymore. I draw so
- 48:13Speaker 8: much inspiration from him, and I was glad that I
- 48:16Speaker 8: got two reprises. Ain't nothing but a hound dog in
- 48:19Speaker 8: that movie, National Tragedy. Some of you may know, or
- 48:24Speaker 8: you may not know, that I went on a quest
- 48:27Speaker 8: for the Holy Grail before shooting this movie. And I
- 48:31Speaker 8: got to say, I didn't find it, but I did
- 48:32Speaker 8: find the inspiration for the national tragedy. So I want
- 48:37Speaker 8: to thank the Catholic Church for giving me the upbringing
- 48:43Speaker 8: to bring my religion into this world, into this movie.
- 48:47Speaker 8: I also want to thank my lovely co-actress, a Bobby Diva.
- 48:53Speaker 8: She did a fantastic job smoking that really long cigarette
- 48:59Speaker 8: on that thing.
- 49:01Speaker 1: I love.
- 49:03Speaker 3: And they're playing you off. Fantastic.
- 49:10Speaker 2: I love that already we're presented with a different Nick
- 49:13Speaker 2: Cage accent. So now I have to decide which one
- 49:16Speaker 2: is accurate. I I thought that was fantastic. I did
- 49:21Speaker 2: enjoy how in the three-line scene, your core style was
- 49:24Speaker 2: also nouveau shamanic. But you expanded on the film, you
- 49:30Speaker 2: did the impression, and you thanked lots of people, including
- 49:33Speaker 2: people Nick Cage would actually genuinely thank. I've also got
- 49:37Speaker 2: to give you five out of five points.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Thank you. The Holy Grail thing is real. It felt real.
- 49:43Speaker 3: It's real. He really went on a quest for the
- 49:45Speaker 3: Holy Grail. Did he succeed? Well, he doesn't talk about
- 49:49Speaker 3: it all. He doesn't talk about his religion very much.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Did he thank the Catholic Church?
- 49:54Speaker 3: No, but he was raised Catholic. Oh, okay. And he's
- 49:59Speaker 3: the classic Catholic family.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Okay, we still have two Academy Awards to hand out
- 50:12Speaker 2: to Nick Cage.
- 50:13Speaker 11: Disinheriting Oklahoma.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Disinheriting Oklahoma, Raising Arizona.
- 50:19Speaker 1: I love it so much.
- 50:20Speaker 3: So that's going to be Charles' movie.
- 50:23Speaker 2: Disinheriting Oklahoma is the title of your Cage's movie. Can
- 50:27Speaker 2: we see the three-line scene, the little clip from Disinheriting Oklahoma?
- 50:31Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Bobby, I just can't do it. That's okay. I understand.
- 50:49Speaker 1: We all get nervous around a beautiful woman. Don't you
- 50:57Speaker 1: support me like that. I need you to push me.
- 51:01Speaker 1: I need to be better. I'll push it.
- 51:05Speaker 11: Fantastic.
- 51:09Speaker 3: We were all waiting for Charles to lose his mind.
- 51:11Speaker 1: We got it. Okay.
- 51:15Speaker 2: And the Academy Award goes to... I've been Meryl Streep
- 51:19Speaker 2: for all of these.
- 51:20Speaker 1: It shows. It's Nicolas Cage!
- 51:24Speaker 3: Here's your speech.
- 51:29Speaker 8: Oh, gosh.
- 51:32Speaker 1: I just have so many.
- 51:34Speaker 6: people to thank I really wasn't expecting this tonight first
- 51:39Speaker 6: I'd like to thank the state.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Of Oklahoma.
- 51:43Speaker 6: For without that panhandle we would be nothing as a
- 51:46Speaker 6: nation and you know what I took this job you're
- 51:53Speaker 6: not because it was the right thing to do but
- 51:57Speaker 6: I'm flat broke.
- 52:01Speaker 1: I just really need the money. I'm in a lot
- 52:03Speaker 1: of debt.
- 52:04Speaker 6: But I would really like to thank the people who
- 52:07Speaker 6: bring the food to set every day. They've got a
- 52:10Speaker 6: lot of leftovers that they just really support me with
- 52:15Speaker 6: and support your local food person. I'd also like to
- 52:21Speaker 6: thank my biggest fan, Ivan Grossman.
- 52:28Speaker 1: When he kisses me at night. Sorry, they're playing you off.
- 52:31Speaker 1: They're playing you off. Fantastic. Oh, my God.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Food person.
- 52:39Speaker 11: I love the idea of him.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Being so famous that he doesn't know crap.
- 52:45Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 52:45Speaker 1: He's that out of touch.
- 52:46Speaker 3: He just thinks.
- 52:47Speaker 10: A person came to feed him.
- 52:51Speaker 2: I took that as accurate to what an A-list Hollywood
- 52:53Speaker 2: star would do. And I was dancing around four points
- 52:58Speaker 2: because I only heard a little bit about the panhandle.
- 53:00Speaker 2: But then you remembered to thank Ivan. And I liked
- 53:03Speaker 2: how meta that joke was. So I'm also going to
- 53:06Speaker 2: give you five points.
- 53:08Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 53:10Speaker 3: Which now puts so much pressure on Audrey.
- 53:14Speaker 10: I'm just, if I ever get like sad, I'm just
- 53:17Speaker 10: going to look at this Oscar statue's butt.
- 53:19Speaker 1: Maybe I can do it. That's what all the celebrities do.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Of course you can do it. I'm a heat-seeking panther.
- 53:26Speaker 10: Yeah, heat-seek.
- 53:27Speaker 1: I'm going right for that vibe. Seek, Maggie. The hole.
- 53:32Speaker 1: The hole.
- 53:32Speaker 11: The hole.
- 53:33Speaker 1: The hole.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Okay, we need the title of the movie that Audra's
- 53:37Speaker 2: Nick Cage has starred in.
- 53:39Speaker 1: A band story.
- 53:41Speaker 2: A band story. Like B-A-N-N-E-D or like the music band?
- 53:45Speaker 10: Music band.
- 53:45Speaker 3: A band story. A band story. Do you like that?
- 53:50Speaker 3: A band story. It is Nick Cage.
- 53:55Speaker 2: So let's see a quick clip from a band story.
- 54:04Speaker 1: I think I just rocked too hard.
- 54:06Speaker 10: I don't know if this band can handle me anymore.
- 54:12Speaker 8: Look, Jessen, you're the only one that can rock this hard.
- 54:16Speaker 8: You and your Dad, grandfather's guitar.
- 54:19Speaker 1: You got this.
- 54:22Speaker 9: God, you're right, Treville. We're going to rock so hard.
- 54:30Speaker 10: My grandfather, he's coming through my guitar. We're going to
- 54:36Speaker 10: rock this nation together.
- 54:39Speaker 4: Whoa.
- 54:43Speaker 2: Powerful stuff I feel bad for the other nominees and
- 54:46Speaker 2: the winner goes the winner is.
- 54:50Speaker 1: It's the cage and your speech starts now.
- 55:00Speaker 9: Thank you so much for this, Oscar.
- 55:02Speaker 10: I don't know if you knew this, but that film
- 55:05Speaker 10: was entirely improvised. There was a couple times where I
- 55:12Speaker 10: made a few mistakes.
- 55:13Speaker 9: I was too invested. And we just thought that that
- 55:16Speaker 9: added to the realism of the film.
- 55:18Speaker 1: And we were right.
- 55:21Speaker 10: Because I have this tiny Oscar statue with this incredible ass.
- 55:26Speaker 10: I would like to thank the sculptors who sculpted this.
- 55:31Speaker 10: I'd like to thank my grandfather for letting me murder
- 55:34Speaker 10: him so that I could put a.
- 55:37Speaker 9: Little piece of him in my pocket.
- 55:40Speaker 10: To really know what it felt like to have a
- 55:44Speaker 10: dead grandfather who you were rocking for.
- 55:48Speaker 1: And you know what?
- 55:49Speaker 9: I'd like to thank Trevlyn.
- 55:54Speaker 10: I know that's not his name, but I really care
- 55:56Speaker 10: about that character.
- 55:58Speaker 9: And he meant a lot to me.
- 55:59Speaker 3: And they're playing you off.
- 56:00Speaker 11: Fantastic experience.
- 56:06Speaker 3: Oh my goodness.
- 56:07Speaker 2: I think that was my favorite clip of all of
- 56:09Speaker 2: the movies so far. I loved that so much. I
- 56:12Speaker 2: loved all of the people you thanked. I love that
- 56:14Speaker 2: it implied that you did this improvised and method and
- 56:18Speaker 2: you killed your grandpa. Yes.
- 56:21Speaker 9: How do you know I didn't?
- 56:24Speaker 3: And you brought a really good intensity, especially in the
- 56:28Speaker 3: scenes of a Nick Cage impression. I'm also giving Ultra
- 56:31Speaker 3: five out of five points.
- 56:35Speaker 9: My Nick Cage statue has the biggest face.
- 56:38Speaker 1: Big face! Face off, face off, face off, face off!
- 56:46Speaker 10: It'd be funny if John Travolta's face was underneath.
- 56:50Speaker 2: If we'd have had just five more minutes time this evening,
- 56:52Speaker 2: it absolutely would have happened.
- 56:53Speaker 1: If it was only John Travolta's face.
- 56:59Speaker 3: Okay, well, look what's next in the copy. That's the
- 57:01Speaker 3: end of round three.
- 57:02Speaker 2: Let's all take our faces off so we can truly
- 57:04Speaker 2: see the latest scores.
- 57:07Speaker 5: We got Heat Seeking Panther sitting at an even 20.
- 57:10Speaker 5: And we have Dwayne The Rock Johnson sitting at cool 22.
- 57:15Speaker 3: Okay, okay. Still pretty close.
- 57:22Speaker 1: It could all change.
- 57:30Speaker 3: Audra's on like her 14th hour of working. I love
- 57:32Speaker 3: how delirious.
- 57:33Speaker 1: Audra!
- 57:33Speaker 11: You're an artist.
- 57:39Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 57:40Speaker 1: I woke up at 4.30.
- 57:40Speaker 9: Oh, Lord.
- 57:44Speaker 2: Before we get to the quickfire round, though, the crucial
- 57:46Speaker 2: quickfire round, let's talk prizes. This episode's star prize is
- 57:50Speaker 2: the concept of heightened emotional expression, which is also what
- 57:53Speaker 2: I'm asked to display more of on my improv feedback forms.
- 57:56Speaker 2: So do share if you win. Do share if you win.
- 57:59Speaker 2: But our winning team will also receive two tickets to
- 58:03Speaker 2: see National Disaster in IMAX.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Oh, my gosh. 70mm? Yeah, real IMAX?
- 58:10Speaker 3: Yeah, watch those towers fall.
- 58:15Speaker 1: Up next.
- 58:16Speaker 2: I might cut that. Up next is our crucial quick...
- 58:19Speaker 2: Up next is our crucial quickfire round, just in case.
- 58:21Speaker 2: I've got to start again now. Up next is our
- 58:25Speaker 2: crucial quickfire round, but first we must play one final
- 58:28Speaker 2: set of ads. And I've not written a joke here,
- 58:30Speaker 2: so everybody cheer!
- 58:30Speaker 10: Yeah!
- 58:41Speaker 2: Our final quickfire round will test your broader pop culture knowledge,
- 58:44Speaker 2: and it's called National Treasure.
- 58:46Speaker 3: No, my treasure. And I'll tell you why.
- 58:49Speaker 2: In this game, I will give our players clues to
- 58:51Speaker 2: famous tax evaders from pop culture history.
- 58:54Speaker 1: Nice.
- 58:55Speaker 2: Those clues will be in the style of their accountant
- 58:57Speaker 2: trying to explain what happened to their client's money. As
- 59:01Speaker 2: a legal disclaimer, the following names were all charged with
- 59:04Speaker 2: tax fraud. Some served jail time. Some were acquitted. Some
- 59:07Speaker 2: paid what they were owed the public in full. It's mixed,
- 59:11Speaker 2: but there's the legal disclaimer. There is, of course, a
- 59:14Speaker 2: classic Gate Leapers twist. You need to say you are
- 59:17Speaker 2: sentenced to life without parole like a judge after you
- 59:20Speaker 2: say the name of your celebrity. just because then I
- 59:23Speaker 2: can clip that up and get you all in trouble
- 59:24Speaker 2: on the internet. I won't give you the point if
- 59:28Speaker 2: you don't say that. It's quick fire, so you buzz
- 59:31Speaker 2: in by yelling out your team name.
- 59:32Speaker 3: Let's practice that now.
- 59:34Speaker 11: D.C.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Panthers. All right.
- 59:37Speaker 3: You're going to go full every time?
- 59:39Speaker 1: Dwayne the Rock Johnson. All right. Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 59:42Speaker 1: Dwayne the Rock Johnson. Dwayne the Rock Johnson. Panthers versus
- 59:45Speaker 1: Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 59:47Speaker 3: Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 59:50Speaker 10: Would you allow a buzz in with a rar?
- 59:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna, oh yeah! Alright, okay. I like that as
- 59:56Speaker 1: a catchphrase. A well-known catchphrase.
- 59:58Speaker 3: Love it.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Rar and oh yeah.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: So, as an example, if I said, sir, if you remember,
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: you spent all that money on Trigger, your guitar, and
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: it's not cheap to record over 70 Outlaw Country albums.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: At least you have all that marijuana for when you're
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: back out on the road again.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Rar!
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Yes, Audra.
- 1:00:19Speaker 10: Willie Nelson, you're sentenced to life without parole.
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: Nice.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: That's exactly how you do it. But that wasn't real,
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: so no point.
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: I'm so sorry.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: She's been up since four in the morning. Okay, half
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: a point for Audra getting that.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: Just so we don't end in a tie, we all
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: want to go home.
- 1:00:39Speaker 9: We don't get to go home if there's a tie?
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: Nope. We play all the rounds again.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Okay, you can interrupt me at any point during the clue.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: Are we all ready?
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: Yes, sir.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: I'll start the timer that doesn't exist.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Uh, madam, if you remember, you spent all that money
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: on sequins and tassels, and it's not cheap to go
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: to every World Cup game.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Your hips might not lie.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Oh, yeah! Yes?
- 1:01:04Speaker 11: Shakira, you are sentenced to life in prison.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Nice, lovely stuff. I'll take it.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Anything I can clip out of context is fine with me.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Is it without parole? Without parole.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Any riff on that is absolutely fine. If I hear silence,
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: no point. Sir, if you remember, you spent all that
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: money on shades and leather costuming, and it's not cheap
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: to take all those karate lessons. You're going to need
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: to do a lot of day walking with that blade
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: to pay off your debts.
- 1:01:30Speaker 10: Yes.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: Wesley Snipes. You're sentenced to life without parole.
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: Yes, indeed. It is indeed Wesley Snipes. Sir, if you remember,
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: you spent all that money on old-timey hats and cigars.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: But to you, I guess they were new-timey. And it's
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: not cheap to bootleg alcohol into America.
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: Yes, Ivan.
- 1:01:56Speaker 11: Oh.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: Al Capone. You are sentenced to life without parole.
- 1:02:01Speaker 10: Yes.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: Good stuff. I almost said Al Pacino, but that's not it.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: For legal reasons, Al Pacino has paid all of his taxes. Sir,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: if you remember, you spent all that money on live bats,
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: and it's not cheap to go on tour with a familiar.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: I think I heard rail first.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Ozzy Osbourne....
- 1:02:23Speaker 8: You're sentenced to life without parole.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: That's correct with both of you. Just the one point, though.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Madam, if you remember, you spent all that money on
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: homeware while pioneering what it means to- Oh, yeah. I
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: think I heard oh, yeah first. Yep.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Charles? Martha Stewart, you are sentenced to life without parole.
- 1:02:42Speaker 8: Nice.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Good stuff.
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: Uh, sir, if you remember, you spent all that money
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: on that very famous car chase, and it's not cheap
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: to pay the Kardashian- Oh, yeah!
- 1:02:52Speaker 8: Yes, Charles.
- 1:02:53Speaker 11: OJ Simpson, you're sentenced to life without parole.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Finally!
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: Uh, sir, if you remember, you spent all that money
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: on fake tan and partying, and it's not cheap.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: To get- Oh, yeah!
- 1:03:05Speaker 11: Yes?
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: Uh.
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: mike the situation you're sentenced to life in prison without
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: it is.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: Indeed mike the situation from jersey shore good stuff uh
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: sir if you remember you spent all that money on
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: baseball gear and it's not cheap to appear in an
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: episode of the simpsons which is where i know you
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: from i know you said you have immunity because your
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: surname is a fruit but that's not a law slugger.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Oh, oh yeah. Yes, Charles.
- 1:03:32Speaker 11: Brad Pitt? You're sentenced to life in prison without parole?
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: It's not Brad Pitt, and again, for legal reasons, Brad
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: Pitt may or may not pay this debt.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: Anyone got this one?
- 1:03:42Speaker 11: Fruit.
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: From that one Simpsons episode.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Oh boy, I should know that part.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: Famous baseball player.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: Yes, I'll drive.
- 1:03:49Speaker 11: Oh, I know it.
- 1:03:52Speaker 10: Bobby the Slugger Orange.
- 1:03:56Speaker 9: Life without pearls.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: So close.
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: It was Daryl Strawberry.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Mr. Strawberry.
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: Madam, if you remember, you spent all that money on
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: amphetamines given to you by evil Hollywood producers, and it's
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: not cheap to travel to Oz. I know you said
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: you wanted to be over the rainbow, but they took
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: that horribly literally.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Oh, yeah?
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Yes, Ethan.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Judy Garland? Your sense to life without the law? It
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: seems horrible to say, but yeah. It's horrible to say.
- 1:04:28Speaker 10: I didn't want to think that about Judy Garland.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: I didn't want to think that.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: It's not her fault.
- 1:04:35Speaker 9: I know.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: Sir, if you remember, you gave all of your money
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: away to the poor and those in need, and it's
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: not cheap to defy King John in the Middle Ages.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: And I know sometimes you're portrayed as a fox, but
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: you still own.
- 1:04:48Speaker 12: Yes, Audrey?
- 1:04:49Speaker 10: Robin Hood, you are sentenced to life without parole.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: You were picturing the fox, right? I was. I'm more
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: of a Carfax fox guy.
- 1:05:02Speaker 9: That makes sense.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: Sirs, if you remember, you spent all of your money
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: on clothes, fragrances, and jewelry, and it's not cheap to
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: run a fashion empire out of Milan, darlings. I know
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: you said you filed individually, but I need you to
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: file as a pair, you pair of Ds, and you're
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: also Gs.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Yes, Audrey.
- 1:05:23Speaker 10: The Ds, oh, Dolce and Gabbana, you are sentenced to
- 1:05:27Speaker 10: life without parole.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: Yes, the fashion moguls, good stuff.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: And quick, last one before the buzzer.
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: Sir, if you remember, you spent all that money on
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: acting less, well, wait, no, you didn't, and it's not
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: cheap to get divorced four times.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: I know you said it.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Was your encounter.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Yes, Charles.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: Nick Cage? You're sentenced to life in prison, Earl?
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: Yes, it is!
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: And that's the buzzer!
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: Before we get to those final scores, I'd like to
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: thank our players.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: You've all been absolutely uncaged.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Genuinely, thank you so much. This has been a blast.
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: This was such a fun experiment to carry out.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: Also, let's give it up for our wonderful crew who
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: gave us so much support.
- 1:06:26Speaker 8: Ivan.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Ivan, Charles, you are both members of the Flock. You
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: picked up what I was putting down. And the Flock
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: and Pretendium, which Ivan, you are also a member of,
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: share a show night here at the Peak Improv Theatre.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: Where can listeners come and see you and where can
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: they find you online?
- 1:06:47Speaker 8: Yeah, the Flock and Pretendium share a joint improv slot
- 1:06:53Speaker 8: every third Saturday of the month. This month, we're starting
- 1:06:56Speaker 8: at 9 o'clock, but starting next month, we're starting at
- 1:07:00Speaker 8: 7 onwards. I don't know our social media handles.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: At the Flock Improv.
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: Nice.
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: At Pretendium.Improv. At Pretendium.Improv.
- 1:07:12Speaker 8: Nice.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: There will be links to both of those in the
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: show notes. If you live in Colorado Springs, come and
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: see a Flock Pretendium show. If you are way away.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: Follow them on social media. Support local improvisers.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: Fantastic. Thank you so much.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: And Ethan, obviously everything Peak Improv can be found at peakimprov.com.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: But you're also a cast member on the Team Up
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: Play Show podcast. Would you like to share a bit
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: about that and where folks can find Team Up?
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely. You can definitely go to teamuprpg.com if you
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: want to download the new and updated manual. We're out
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: of beta. Yay! If you want to play a cool,
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: original superhero TTRPG, it's really immersive and fun, super fast-paced combat,
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: very exciting, and the book's totally for free on that website,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: along with a cool character builder created by Johnny Wilson,
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: another performer here at this theater. Shout out to him.
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: Shout out to his wife and our other cast member, Steph,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Steph Fackler. Thank you. Shout out to Ben, wherever he
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: may be.
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: He's alive.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Ben's alive.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: Ben's alive. He's up there with me.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: He's just looking down at us.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: He's really tall.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: Do support all our players. If you're listening at home
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: and the players here made you laugh even just a
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: little bit, support them online. It helps more than you know.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: All right. Should we get to those final scores? I
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: genuinely don't know how.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: This is going.
- 1:08:42Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Of course. Final scores! Final scores!
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: We have the heat-seeking Panthers sitting at 25 and a
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: half points. Dwayne The Rock Johnson is sitting at 28 points.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Fantastic.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: It's a win for Dwayne the Rock Johnson.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Finally.
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: Recognition Dwayne the Rock Johnson deserves.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: This has been Fandemonium. Thank you so much for listening.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: Subscribe to this feed for more geeky game shows. We've
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: got game shows about Keanu Reeves, and he's the only
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: other actor we've done, so I can't list anything else.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: Please leave us a five-star review if you had a
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: good time and ignore this sentence if you did not.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Please share this episode with a friend, a Nick Cage fan,
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Nick Cage himself. He would listen, but he'd also hate it.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: And I leave you with this iconic Nick Cage quote.
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: And Nick Cage quote that if I clipped out of
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: context would get me deported.
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: Say it with me if you know it.
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: I am going to steal the Declaration of Independence.
- 1:09:52Speaker 11: Good night!
- 1:09:53Speaker 9: You gotta do Paul Giamatti next.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: We should do a Paul Giamatti one next. He's the
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: natural next prolific actor. It's Keanu Reeves, it's Nicolas Cage,
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: and it's Paul Giamatti, the big three. Thank you so
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: much for listening to this episode, LeapFrogs. Do let us
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: know in the comments over on Patreon, patreon.com forward slash gateleapers,
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: what you thought of this hybrid studio live episode. There's
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: a good chance that next year we get to record
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: a few episodes like this, and I'm curious to know
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: what everyone thought of it. I know I had a
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: great time. I know the panel had a great time,
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: and it sounded like the room had a great time too.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: So feedback is always appreciated. Do let us know what
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: you thought of this episode. Comment wherever you listen to this.
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: If it's on Spotify, we'll see it. If it's on Amazon,
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: probably less likely to check that. Thank you so much
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: for listening. All that remains for me to do today
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: is thank our wonderful executive producers who support us at
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: the highest tier over at patreon.com forward slash gatekeepers. And
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: I guess I've got to join everyone else because they
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: all did such a fantastic job, a better job than
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: I'm about to do. I've got to thank you in
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: the style of Nicolas Cage. Oh, Ash and Adam, we've
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: got to... We got to disarm the bomb before it
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: goes off and kills everyone. But thank you so much
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: for supporting Fandemonium. Justin Dodberg, get off that plane. Get
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: off that plane this instant. But my friend, thank you.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Thank you for your support. Derek and Taylor, you're the best.
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: I'm Nuvo.
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: I'm shamanic. And I'm doing a little panic. Thanks, Derek
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: and Taylor. Aaron Randolph, I'm going to go whisper quiet
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: as Nicolas Cage, but only so I can build to
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: a great intensity. Ah, thank you so much for your support.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Kristen Farley, I don't even know if this is a
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: Nick Cage accent or if I'm just doing some kind
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: of amalgamation of what the other four did, but thank you.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Your support means a lot to the Cage. Troy Davidson,
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: my God! Thank you so much for your support. And
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: to the entire cast of Team Up. Johnny, Steph, Ethan,
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: and Ben. Well, Ethan especially. Thank you for providing such
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: a fantastic Nicolas Cage voice that was better than this one. Ah,
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: Corbin Stein. Yeah, maybe it's a little more in the
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: teeth like this. A little more manic. Yeah, thank you, Corbin.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: Your voice acting skills always punch me up.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Well.
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: What can I say?
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Thank you for being my biggest fan.
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: I'm going to do my calm voice for you. Is
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: this what Nicolas Cage sounds like when he's calm?
- 1:12:59Speaker 7: Calm?
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: Keep keeping that in.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Matt Smith! My God!
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: I sound more like the Doc from Back to the
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Future now. Somebody sat there being like, that's what you
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: always sounded like, Matt. Thank you, Matt, so much. From
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: one Matt to another. And to Shirley Stout, a very
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: Polite Nicolas Cage, thank you for the Oscar. Please surely
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: cast me in the next movie you're making. You're the
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: best for supporting independent comedy. Okay, I'm going to leave
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: that voice on the pile of voices that I can't
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: really do. But thank you so much to all of
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: our executive producers. You allow recordings like this to happen.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: And by supporting independent comedy production, you are allowing us
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: to move and grow and change in all the wonderful ways.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Your support means the world and you're great people for
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: supporting the arts. So thank you so much. And thank you, LeapFrog,
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: who's listening right to the end of this. We'll be
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: back in two weeks with a brand new Fandemonium for
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: a jam-packed October. I hope you're enjoying the start to
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: your fall.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Cage out.
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: Not the bees. It sounded like Ian McKellen.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: This has been a Lilypad production.
