- 1:37Speaker 1: So Labor Press Daily, I've realized they post an article
- 1:40Speaker 1: every day thanks to Silver Kreeger, and this one is
- 1:47Speaker 1: about Boeing workers striking after rejecting the new contract. Here's
- 1:52Speaker 1: how Silver wrote. Boeing workers, who are members of the
- 1:54Speaker 1: International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, overwhelmingly rejected a
- 2:00Speaker 1: tentative contract offer on September eighth. If we've been following
- 2:04Speaker 1: this movement, you know that it's been a struggle for
- 2:06Speaker 1: the union workers against Boeing, and the next step was
- 2:10Speaker 1: a strike early morning Friday the thirteenth.
- 2:13Speaker 2: That was in September.
- 2:17Speaker 1: I AM District's seven to five to one President John
- 2:19Speaker 1: Holden gave a list of agreements, including Boeing's failure to
- 2:23Speaker 1: bargaining good.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Faith and a lawful surveillance of employees.
- 2:27Speaker 1: The twenty five percent proposed wage increase doesn't cover the
- 2:31Speaker 1: cost of living. The union had years of giveback to
- 2:34Speaker 1: the company since two thousand and eight, and now they
- 2:38Speaker 1: want their dual.
- 2:40Speaker 2: So we've been following.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I've been following a little bit the Boeing workers' strike
- 2:44Speaker 1: as well as that been reporting on it.
- 2:47Speaker 2: But it's it's important to write about this because the
- 2:52Speaker 2: airline industry.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I just see Spare airlines went out of business or
- 2:56Speaker 1: you know, Faber brankruptcy. The airline industry has had problem
- 3:00Speaker 1: keeping union members happy. Remember the pilots wanted to go
- 3:03Speaker 1: up to strike. Boweing's had issues in general with their planes,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you know, somehow losing a door mid air. I mean,
- 3:12Speaker 1: there's been a lot of issues that the union guys
- 3:15Speaker 1: have had to put up with. So it's no surprise
- 3:18Speaker 1: that thirty thousand employees were participated in the strike's beginnings
- 3:23Speaker 1: and the production of the company's aircraft is at a.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Standstill for the most part.
- 3:29Speaker 1: This was written today, November eighteenth, twenty twenty four, and
- 3:36Speaker 1: I want to give an update because I haven't been
- 3:38Speaker 1: seeing update about this since September. But in addition, today
- 3:47Speaker 1: boeing'said it would be laying off more than two thousand
- 3:49Speaker 1: workers in Washington and Oregon, a mirror of strikes, a
- 3:53Speaker 1: minute year of strikes and safety issues. So not only
- 3:59Speaker 1: is Boeing not helping the union guys, they're laying them off.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And of course, to me, I wish Boeing would just
- 4:10Speaker 1: work with their union guys and work with employees, because
- 4:14Speaker 1: anybody who takes a Boeing flaight right now, it's a risk.
- 4:17Speaker 1: You don't know if a door's gonna fly off the it.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Just or not.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Now this is Washington and Oregon, but you wonder how
- 4:24Speaker 1: many more nationwide could happen as there's a min there's
- 4:30Speaker 1: plans to cut ten percent.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Of the workforce. This according to USA Today. So a
- 4:36Speaker 2: lot going on here.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Labor Press is on the scene as well, and we'll
- 4:40Speaker 1: be covering the rest of that story. As the union
- 4:42Speaker 1: workers are not happy. They've rejected deal after deal and
- 4:46Speaker 1: proposal after proposal, and for good measure, who would wanna fly,
- 4:52Speaker 1: even if you're not a passenger but a worker, fly
- 4:54Speaker 1: in an airplane that might uh combustulate any moment.
- 5:00Speaker 2: And if you don't treat the workers on the ground
- 5:02Speaker 2: while that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Are making the aircraft, who would want to show up
- 5:05Speaker 1: to make the aircraft to begin with. So it's a
- 5:07Speaker 1: trickle down effect and Boweling's facing a lot of heat
- 5:12Speaker 1: for it. But the union members are holding their own
- 5:15Speaker 1: They're holding the line, as they say in the union world.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So came in touch with the Labor Press Radio daily
- 5:22Speaker 1: tomorrow November nineteenth. But today, November eighteenth, sober Krieger is
- 5:27Speaker 1: writing about the Boeing strikes going on by the workers,
- 5:32Speaker 1: and so we'll see what's in store on November nineteenth.
- 5:35Speaker 2: But it's funny. I'm on the railroad right now and transit.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Worker will be honored tomorrow at the Labor Press Leadership
- 5:46Speaker 1: Awards in New Hive Park, New York. Just click the
- 5:51Speaker 1: link in the description below for more information. Thanks for
- 5:56Speaker 1: listening once again to Labor Press Radio. I'm Alex Garret.
