- 0:04Hello you lovely lot and welcome to this very
- 0:08special episode of The Psychic Explorer coming
- 0:11to you from Bonnie Scotland. Yes, regular listeners
- 0:30may have noticed that this episode is going out
- 0:32a week later than scheduled. If I'm honest, I
- 0:36was so busy preparing the October episodes, which
- 0:39I know you're going to love. They are fantastic.
- 0:42I'm so looking forward to sharing those with
- 0:45you. But in order to prepare for those, I almost
- 0:48completely forgot to record a solo episode to
- 0:51go out while I was on holiday. And I got myself
- 0:54in a tune and I thought oh should I do it should
- 0:56I do it or should I just let things be natural?
- 0:57I thought no Matt let things be natural and actually
- 1:00this goes to the theme of today's episode and
- 1:04that is being disconnected. I have felt quite
- 1:09disconnected to almost all things spiritual which
- 1:13I suppose I shouldn't really admit if I'm putting
- 1:17a podcast out about being spiritual and mediumship
- 1:20and all that sort of stuff that goes with it
- 1:22but this is an honest podcast and these things
- 1:25ebb and flow. So we took a week off and we went
- 1:28to Scotland and I took my microphone with me.
- 1:32This episode is not just a self -indulgent travel
- 1:35diary I promise you. There is a purpose behind
- 1:38it. As I said, this episode is all about disconnection.
- 1:42It's about what happens when we step away from
- 1:43our routine, when we literally disconnect from
- 1:47our lives and listen to the voice within. I suppose
- 1:51I wanted to give you a little vignette, a little
- 1:55something, a little flavour of the Scottish Highlands.
- 1:58So the last time I did this, I just basically
- 2:00sat on a beach and spoke to you and I did do
- 2:03that this time as well. However, This time I
- 2:06want to do things a bit differently. I want to
- 2:08take you with me. So sit back, put your earbuds
- 2:12in, make yourself a brew, get yourself some Scottish
- 2:16shortbread, or if you're listening in the UK,
- 2:19break out the Tunnex tea cakes. They are my favourites.
- 2:22And relax as I take you on a journey through
- 2:25the Scottish Highlands. So we have just picked
- 2:32up the van I borrowed from my dad. He bought
- 2:34a camper van a few years ago and he's been saying
- 2:36for a while Why don't you boys go and take it
- 2:38somewhere? So finally we have we have planned
- 2:41to go to Scotland and we are so looking forward
- 2:44to it With handover done, my dad gives us the
- 2:48keys We start the engine up and we make our way
- 2:51up the A1 to our first night's destination at
- 2:54Loch Lomond The drive up there is about 460 miles.
- 3:08That's about 740 kilometres. And it is pelting
- 3:12with rain the entire way. And I'm really worried
- 3:16that the whole trip is going to be a washout.
- 3:19We're in this camper van, so it's going to be
- 3:21fine. And whenever we've been to Scotland, we
- 3:23always joke that it's always cold and it's always
- 3:26wet. We've never had good weather whenever we
- 3:28visited. But the closer we get to the border,
- 3:31the rain thins out, the clouds disperse. And
- 3:35just a hint, only a hint of sunshine reveals
- 3:38itself. Driving up, I'm just thinking about what
- 3:42we're going to be doing. And the plan is to go
- 3:45to the inner Hebrides. We're going to go from
- 3:47Loch Lomond to the Isle of Mull, back over to
- 3:49the mainland, over to another island called the
- 3:52Isle of Skye, back over to the mainland again,
- 3:55down to Glencoe, and then home. There's going
- 3:58to be a lot of driving, but when Simon and I
- 4:00travel, we do tend to cover a lot of ground and
- 4:03this trip we plan on being no exception. We love
- 4:07to see places, we love to see as many places
- 4:10as we can, almost to our detriment because we
- 4:13come away so exhausted. But as I'm driving up
- 4:17I'm just contemplating what I want from this
- 4:20trip. Simon has recently rediscovered our local
- 4:23library and he's going through a bit of a reading
- 4:25obsession which is great. So he has got loads
- 4:28of books which he is planning on reading. I've
- 4:31got a couple too, but for me this holiday represents
- 4:34an opportunity to just reset, reconnect and recharge
- 4:39my batteries. And as we pass the sign that welcomes
- 4:42us to Scotland, I wonder can the sounds of Alba
- 4:45revive the connection within me? After about
- 4:5310 hours driving, we finally arrive at the gateway
- 4:57of the Scottish Highlands, Loch Lomond. We're
- 5:01trying to keep this trip as cheap as possible
- 5:03so we are trying to avoid campsites at all costs.
- 5:07The camper van is pretty self -contained except
- 5:09it has no toilet and it has no shower so we'll
- 5:12be having to make use of some public conveniences.
- 5:15We've also found an app where we can find free
- 5:18parking spaces and areas which we can pull over
- 5:21and camp the night. I'm really hoping that we
- 5:25have Scotland to ourselves and that we have to
- 5:28interact with as few as people as possible and
- 5:31hopefully finding camping spots off -grid while
- 5:34camping is really going to help with that. Unfortunately
- 5:38Loch Lomond is very popular and every camping
- 5:41space and parking spot is taken up with other
- 5:43motorhome users so we decided to hang a left
- 5:47and really test this three and a half litre engine
- 5:50as we go almost up a near vertical hill. We dogleg
- 5:55back on ourselves before eventually the road
- 5:58levels out and we follow the track which is only
- 6:00a single track with parting spaces for people
- 6:03coming the other way and we head into this valley.
- 6:06The road snakes and follows a stream which meanders
- 6:09its way through the bottom of the valley. It's
- 6:12called Douglas Water and as we find a spot The
- 6:16sun is just about to set. Setting the surrounding
- 6:19hills alight with the glow of the sun. It is
- 6:23beautiful and it is freezing. We have come from
- 6:31Norfolk where it was about 25 degrees and tonight
- 6:35it is forecast to go down to zero. It is stunning
- 6:39with nothing but the sound of the Douglas water
- 6:43flowing nearby. and the sound of sheep on the
- 6:47hills that surround us. What an incredible landscape
- 7:05to disconnect him. The next day we'd done our
- 7:30scarves, our hats, our big thick coats and faced
- 7:33the bitter winds but are cheered by the beautiful
- 7:37blue skies that have welcomed us to Scotland.
- 7:42Our bus follows the track as it goes up and down
- 7:45the small hills, the engines draining slightly
- 7:49as it goes uphill and then coasting as it goes
- 7:54back down. We make our way along the coast and
- 8:00visit pretty village after pretty village. These
- 8:03places that feel like the 21st century hasn't
- 8:06really touched. There are fewer people here and
- 8:10the people that are here are happy to let you
- 8:12mind your own business. People come here to escape.
- 8:17Whether that be from the world, from themselves,
- 8:20from their lives. Scotland is a natural beacon
- 8:23for people who want to find raw wild nature.
- 8:27to plug themselves into that landscape and recharge.
- 8:33We're driving in our van and we're watching Scotland
- 8:37pass us by. We are watching lock after lock pass
- 8:40by our windows, mountain after mountain, soar
- 8:44above us. This place has a raw, majestic beauty.
- 8:50And little do I know it, for us, Scotland has
- 8:52just got started. It's amazing how quickly you
- 8:57adapt. We've only been on the road for 24 hours
- 9:00and wild camp for one night. But already we are
- 9:04used to our own isolation. And when we put into
- 9:07Oban, a small port town, suddenly we're reminded
- 9:11that there are other people here. There are other
- 9:13tourists on the same trail. It's a Sunday but
- 9:17the shops are all busy. The restaurants are all
- 9:20full. Everyone is busy in themselves. Ferries
- 9:25are coming and going. A young boy stands on the
- 9:29promenade, playing his bagpipes to the tourists
- 9:32who walk past, throwing pound coins into his
- 9:35open bag on the floor. I'm reminded that as frustrated
- 9:47as I get when crowds and other tourists are around
- 9:49me, with people also comes creativity, comes
- 9:53creation. There are little craft shops everywhere.
- 9:57This boy is making music from an instrument made
- 10:00of sheepskin. And people are looking forward
- 10:03to their journey. And onwards with ours. The
- 10:18Isle of Mull is calling. It is just over the
- 10:20water and we are about to board our first ferry
- 10:24of the trip. Ferries crisscross this part of
- 10:38Scotland. It's quite phenomenal just how many
- 10:41ferry crossings there are. But everyone is always
- 10:44full. People are on the go. People are moving.
- 10:48People have people to see. And it's heartening
- 10:51to think that when you look at this corner of
- 10:54the world, one might think that it's empty, vacant.
- 11:00But even here, connections are being forged and
- 11:04maintained with other human beings. We drive
- 11:11onto the ferry and we prepare to set sail for
- 11:15our Our long voyage to our next destination,
- 11:18the Isle of Mull. The Isle of Mull is absolutely
- 11:31stunning. It's dark, it's daunting, it is majestic.
- 11:40I know I've used that word already, but... There's
- 11:44no other word for it. On this first morning in
- 11:48Mull, there's a slight drizzle, but it's nothing
- 11:52to worry about. In fact, the moisture gives the
- 11:57landscape this shiny, glowing effect. The grass
- 12:02is green. The mountains are covered in this orange
- 12:06bracken. And when the clouds do clear, the sky
- 12:10behind them is... bright blue. The occasional
- 12:15tree, the occasional shrub, litters the hillsides
- 12:18with rocks strewn from the previous ice age.
- 12:23Dry stone walls line some of the roads and when
- 12:27the road takes you through little woodland areas
- 12:30The grey of the walls is overcome by a deep green
- 12:35moss which has enveloped the wall almost as if
- 12:39saying no this wall is too hard we've got to
- 12:42soften it up with this thick green carpet. It
- 12:47is such an incredible landscape that honestly
- 12:50the photos I take just do not do it justice.
- 12:55Everywhere you look Hills and mountains plunge
- 12:59into silver and blue and grey water as calm as
- 13:05a millpond. Small fishing boats bob here and
- 13:08there and very suddenly the roads that we are
- 13:13used to disappear, replaced by a single track
- 13:16road with passing places. Now it takes quite
- 13:20a while to get used to this because as you're
- 13:23going along people behind you will be wanting
- 13:26to overtake so you have to pull over and let
- 13:28them pass. There'll be people coming the opposite
- 13:31way and you have to work out if you're going
- 13:33to pull over or if they're going to pull over
- 13:35and of course every time you do it's Scottish
- 13:38driving courtesy to wave a hand at the driver
- 13:41to say thank you for allowing you to pass. Now
- 13:44if I was in my regular car it wouldn't be a problem
- 13:47but I am in a three and a half ton van with very
- 13:51stiff gears heavy steering and quite spongy brakes.
- 13:57And every time I come to one of these passing
- 13:59places that I have to stop at, I have to throw
- 14:02the gear stick into first and the engine roars
- 14:05into action as I try and pull away. But I find
- 14:19it fun. I don't find it frustrating, I think.
- 14:22Driving, for me, is a pleasure. I love driving
- 14:25and exploring a landscape like this is a privilege.
- 14:28It really is. And as I'm driving along and having
- 14:32to stop every few moments to allow someone to
- 14:34pass, it strikes me that we are under constant
- 14:38pressure, whether we put ourselves under that
- 14:39pressure or whether we feel it from other people.
- 14:43We're in a constant race to get to our destination,
- 14:47or we feel like we are being pushed along. Social
- 14:50media, I think, is a great example for this.
- 14:52I feel a big pressure to try and post, post,
- 14:56post. And it's easy to get disappointed when
- 14:59no one replies to your posts and no one acknowledges
- 15:03them. But that is something I've had to have
- 15:06a conversation with myself about. Who am I doing
- 15:09that for? I feel there is a pressure to get lots
- 15:13of likes. I feel that there is a pressure to
- 15:16be validated. because everyone else is, and there
- 15:19seems to be this race to be the most popular
- 15:22person on social media, and it's never going
- 15:24to happen. And these passing places I found are
- 15:27quite metaphorical for this. You know, as I said,
- 15:30we do feel this pressure, but sometimes it's
- 15:35good to be forced to stop, to let other people
- 15:39pass, and to continue when you are ready. And
- 15:45sometimes when you are ready to get going again,
- 15:48it can be a struggle to do so, like the van.
- 15:51You've got to whack it into first gear, you've
- 15:53got to roll the engine to get the wheels rolling.
- 15:56But you get in your stride, you get going again,
- 16:00and then you have to pull over again. And that's
- 16:02absolutely fine. After an eight mile track of
- 16:11stop -starting, pulling over for photos, pulling
- 16:14over for other vehicles, we got to the small
- 16:17car park for the Locked Buoy Standing Stones.
- 16:20I wanted to see these. I've never seen standing
- 16:23stones. I have heard about them. I've heard about
- 16:26all the sort of energy they can bring. And I
- 16:28was really looking forward to seeing these stones.
- 16:31We pulled over beside this beautiful old stone
- 16:35bridge with a crystal clear stream passing under
- 16:39it. We donned our walking boots. Well, me with
- 16:45my yellow Wellington boots, my bright yellow
- 16:47Wellington boots I bought for a festival a couple
- 16:49of years ago. And we opened the old rusty gate
- 16:53and let ourselves into the field. Sheet were
- 16:58munchy on the grass and as we walked past they
- 17:00looked up and gave us an inquisitive stare And
- 17:04we walked along the ground and it was boggy.
- 17:07It was wet and muddy and it was squelching under
- 17:10our feet Until eventually we found this field
- 17:16and in the corner of this field were nine standing
- 17:20stones How long these stones have been here?
- 17:23No one actually knows but I did do a little recording.
- 17:29Simon was with me and I have to admit he was
- 17:31slightly off -putting. But here is what I had
- 17:35to say in the middle of the Lochbewy Standing
- 17:40Stones. Hello, everyone. I am coming to you from
- 17:47wild and wet Scotland. I am currently stood in
- 17:52the middle of... the lockbui standing stones
- 17:56on the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides and
- 18:01my word it is stunning here apart from the distant
- 18:06sound of a chainsaw but this place is just incredible
- 18:13it is a land of mystery it is an ancient land
- 18:17and i don't want to sound too cliche by tap into
- 18:22old Celtic roots but you really can feel some
- 18:27sort of energy around here. The landscape is
- 18:31stark, it is beautifully bleak, it is so autumnal,
- 18:38it's gorgeous. We're driving around in my dad's
- 18:42camper van and when we're driving along the roads
- 18:46which hug and clean to either the lock sides
- 18:49or the sea. The colours are so dramatic, the
- 18:54black and grey rocks covered in a bright orange
- 18:58kelp with the orange and grey bracken going up
- 19:03into the green forests, the black cliff faces
- 19:07of the mountains, the green lush grass with the
- 19:13white specks of sheep Grazy amongst the hills
- 19:16it's just glorious it really is and I saw on
- 19:21the map that the standing stones were about half
- 19:24an hour from where we were camped out last night
- 19:27so I thought right let's go and drive and we
- 19:29took the single track road all the way along
- 19:33must have been about eight miles probably was
- 19:35that about 10 to 11 kilometres along the single
- 19:40track road with many passing places and we only
- 19:43passed two other vehicles coming the other way
- 19:46and we are the only people in this landscape.
- 19:51Simon is behind me making himself very aware
- 19:54that he is bored and making himself self conscious.
- 20:03funny or ridiculous face on me. I'm making it
- 20:08very, very difficult for me to even contain my
- 20:12thoughts or to string a sentence together. You
- 20:17know what? I'm very aware that this podcast can
- 20:20sometimes feel like it's just a stream of my
- 20:24consciousness. There's not a lot of structure.
- 20:27There's not a lot of continuity even. but I've
- 20:34really needed this holiday. This year's been,
- 20:38yeah, it's been one of ups and downs, but I've
- 20:43needed to get away. And I really want to relate
- 20:49this to mediumship spirituality because I feel
- 20:54there is this, I don't know if it's a pressure
- 20:57or if it's just an expectation. if you consider
- 21:00yourself a spiritual person you have to be in
- 21:03that vibe 24 7 and that is just not the reality
- 21:09life gets very lifey at times bills need to be
- 21:15paid partners need your attention friends have
- 21:20crises which you need to be there for to support
- 21:24them and I guess as we move into autumn which
- 21:30for me is my favourite time of year and for me
- 21:32also is the time of year I've noticed that where
- 21:34my spirituality and my connection starts to ramp
- 21:38up and maybe that's because daylight hours are
- 21:41fading so therefore my day job I'm not working
- 21:44as many hours as I am in the summer so therefore
- 21:47I have more time to practice but I guess the
- 21:50purpose of this podcast is to talk about the
- 21:54realities of mediumship the realities of psychic
- 21:57work and spirituality and they do ebb and flow
- 22:01so i guess i just want to impart onto you my
- 22:05dear dear listener that actually if you are feeling
- 22:09a bit in a rut if you are feeling like you should
- 22:14be doing more but you're not doing enough of
- 22:16it then Don't worry, that's life. We are here
- 22:21to experience. We are here to have a lifey life.
- 22:26And as I stand and walk around these standing
- 22:31stones, which have been here for thousands of
- 22:36years, and honestly, you wouldn't know they're
- 22:39here. They're just in a random field in a beautiful
- 22:46landscape. I am overusing that word beautiful
- 22:49quite a bit this trip my other half is telling
- 22:51me off using it far too much but these things
- 22:57have been here what feels like forever there's
- 23:01some sort of symbolism there's some sort of meaning
- 23:04behind them and that's that meaning of symbolism
- 23:07fades into the past as we embrace a modern technology
- 23:13-filled world These standing stones are a good
- 23:17reminder that you do have impact. You don't have
- 23:21to have impact 24 -7 but the things that you
- 23:24do, the things that touch people, they will have
- 23:28an impact on them. The point is these standing
- 23:32stones have been here forever and so is your
- 23:35spirituality, so is your mediumship. It was always
- 23:38going to be there. Even in times like I've been
- 23:42feeling recently where it's sort of slipped away
- 23:44and you are questioning whether you still have
- 23:47the ability to connect to your loved ones or
- 23:49other people's loved ones, you still have that
- 23:55ability and it's okay to take that step back
- 23:58from life, to have a holiday, to be there for
- 24:03friends, to pay your bills even as much as you
- 24:09might not want to. it's okay to take a step back
- 24:12from it. And I think I'm gonna do an episode
- 24:14at some point in the future about taking a break
- 24:16from mediumship and spiritual work. But yeah,
- 24:22I think I'm just gonna leave it there. Have a
- 24:24holiday, have a break, take care of yourself.
- 24:28I might come back at some point on this trip
- 24:31to, I don't know, pull a card and do a reading
- 24:34if I find somewhere nice. I'm very conscious
- 24:37that Simon is looking very, very bored as he
- 24:40waits for me to finish up this conversation to
- 24:45myself. You're bored? No? I say I might do another
- 24:52recording at some point and pull a card. Do something
- 24:55like that, yeah. What have you got to say to
- 24:58the listeners? Are you recording, are you? I
- 25:00am. Time to get the coffee now. So we've taken
- 25:35a little trip to the Isle of Iona, the Isle of
- 25:40Iona or just Iona, but there's a very old nunnery
- 25:44here and just a few smattering of houses and
- 25:48we've walked up through the island through the
- 25:51really green pastures where there are sheep grazing
- 25:55to the rocky beach at the northern end and it
- 26:01is pure white. sand beautiful turquoise blue
- 26:07water it's crystal clear bloody cold the wind
- 26:14is up but it's cold but it really is gorgeous
- 26:17and I just wanted to do a little vignette a little
- 26:22audio postcard of where I am Just a little thing
- 26:37to anyone, just a little note to anyone who comes
- 26:41to Iona. Make sure you eat first. We were planning
- 26:45on eating here but of the four cafes and restaurants,
- 26:52three of them are closed and one of them is like
- 26:55an old people's home. It didn't really appeal
- 26:58to us so we are struggling to find a way to eat.
- 27:01We've not eaten since breakfast. And I don't
- 27:05know why I'm telling you this, but I suppose
- 27:06the point is, if I'm going to relate it back
- 27:10to spirituality, look after yourself. If you
- 27:15don't look after yourself, you can't do your
- 27:18job, you can't be the best you want to be. So
- 27:23by all means, come away, enjoy yourself, but
- 27:28look after yourself at the same time. We consult
- 27:44our app and we find a camping spot right on the
- 27:47front of a beach. When we arrive we have more
- 27:54or less the entire beach to ourselves. There
- 27:56are four other campers parked up well away from
- 27:59one another giving us the space and isolation
- 28:01that we are craving. The side door of our camper
- 28:08van has flown open and we are just stunned by
- 28:11the view before us. The kelp -strewn beach slips
- 28:16into the crystal clear water and beyond there
- 28:19are islands and cliff faces and the sun is making
- 28:22the clouds above us dance to oranges and reds.
- 28:25It is just gorgeous. Simon decides to break out
- 28:31his book and it's not long before he's fallen
- 28:33asleep. So I take myself off to do another recording
- 28:38on Ushkin Beach. it is not quite nine o 'clock
- 28:45yet quarter to nine at night and I got my bobble
- 28:50hat on I've got my Wellington boots I've got
- 28:52a very thick coat I've got my scarf on because
- 28:55it is freezing so I've recorded two bits today
- 29:01and they didn't really feel right I was the first
- 29:03one I was in a field and I was in the middle
- 29:08of some standing circles and a bit like Thailand
- 29:13I felt like I should have been more connected
- 29:15I felt like I should have been this is something
- 29:17ancient this this goes back to ancient Celtic
- 29:21times these stones have been stood here for at
- 29:24least a thousand years if not you know two thousand
- 29:27years more but I was with my other half and I
- 29:33was being very self -conscious and he's a bit
- 29:35of a joker so he was winding me up a little bit
- 29:39as well and I was feeling quite uncomfortable
- 29:41doing my piece to Mike as it were then I found
- 29:47myself on top of this mountain and we pulled
- 29:53the camper van over and the valley floor just
- 29:57opened up in front of us two peaks one to the
- 30:01left of us one to the right of us and below us
- 30:03this valley there were three interconnected locks,
- 30:09these bodies of water which stretched out and
- 30:13it was stunning, it was just so beautiful. The
- 30:18colour of the heather as it went up the mountain,
- 30:21the purple which turned into the brown and the
- 30:25gold, bracken, and then finally the gold grass.
- 30:31the mountains and the hills around here don't
- 30:34have many forests and what forests there are
- 30:36they're all managed so you'll be driving through
- 30:39parts of pine forests and then suddenly cliff
- 30:44faces with tree stubs where they've cut all the
- 30:48trees down it does it is reminiscent to me of
- 30:53Mordor in the Lord of the Rings film when they're
- 30:55all when the orcs are all chopping all the trees
- 30:57down it does look a little bit like that in some
- 31:00places so it's a bit disconcerting but the landscape
- 31:03here is just so rugged and so real and I found
- 31:09myself talking again a piece of microphone but
- 31:11my circle leader Nicola she had messaged me and
- 31:14I was a little bit distracted with that I really
- 31:17didn't know what my message was trying to be
- 31:20in this episode so I thought just do it later
- 31:24on So I have, I've waited and we have parked
- 31:28up. Our campervan overlooks this gloriously rugged
- 31:35beach. We are parked up on the beach. There are
- 31:40grey and black rocks jutting into the water.
- 31:46They are covered in not only orange and yellow
- 31:51seaweed but bright purple seaweed too. I never
- 31:56knew this stuff existed until I saw it floating
- 31:58around today. And Simon's in the camper van,
- 32:02fallen asleep already. But I'm happy to have
- 32:05him sleep in the van while I come out here and
- 32:08just compose my thoughts. So what are my thoughts?
- 32:13There seems to be a pressure. And if not a pressure,
- 32:18then certainly an expectation that if you step
- 32:21onto this road of spirituality, mediumship, psychic
- 32:27work, then that needs to be what you are, that
- 32:33needs to be everything that you embody. I know
- 32:39there's one person out there who listens to this,
- 32:44and I hope. she takes note of this or at least
- 32:48at least knows that I hear her and I feel I feel
- 32:52her pain sometimes with this because it does
- 32:54feel like you have to balance this with the needs
- 32:57of everyone else around you that guilt of going
- 33:01to circle that guilt of taking yourself upstairs
- 33:04for a meditation because your other half wants
- 33:09to spend time with you even if that is just sat
- 33:11on the sofa watching shit tv But if you do find
- 33:16you're on this journey of mediumship of psychic
- 33:19work or spirituality and even if you're not on
- 33:24that journey, but you Are a spiritual person
- 33:28you are someone who is in touch with yourself
- 33:31It can be very difficult to Stay connected to
- 33:37yourself or stay connected to the thing that
- 33:40brings you joy brings happiness brings a certain
- 33:45amount of meaning, I guess, to your life. It's
- 33:48my belief, and it's only my belief, that we are
- 33:52here to experience things. Whether that be in
- 33:56learning lessons, I don't know, but certainly
- 33:59we are here to experience life in its physical
- 34:04incarnation. You know, I'm sat here freezing
- 34:08my arse off, but at the same time, appreciating
- 34:15the sensations, appreciating how the cold feels
- 34:19against my skin, how the smell of the seawater
- 34:24smells, the sound of it lapping against the rocks,
- 34:30the gratitude for the opportunity to be able
- 34:32to be here. These other things, no I'll rephrase
- 34:39that. This sort of thing is the reason I am here
- 34:43is to experience things If I can help people
- 34:47along the way then I absolutely will and you
- 34:52know, I make it a real Part of my being to try
- 34:57and help people and to be there for people But
- 35:04this incarnation this time round of me being
- 35:07here on this physical plane is to experience
- 35:12things and I'm doing these things, but sometimes
- 35:14that comes at the cost of my spiritual connection.
- 35:18And I feel that's okay. I am not in this to make
- 35:24a career for myself. I am not in this to necessarily
- 35:30make a name for myself. I want to be good at
- 35:33my mediumship. I want to be able to be accurate.
- 35:37But my expectation is not to make a lot of money
- 35:40on this. My expectation is not to be well known.
- 35:42My expectation is not to be famous or anything
- 35:48like that. My expectation is to be accurate and
- 35:53to help heal the people I come in contact with.
- 35:56And sometimes I need to remind myself that sometimes
- 36:03I need to take time away from my everyday life
- 36:08to borrow a camper van, to run away to Scotland,
- 36:16to sit on a freezing cold beach at the end of
- 36:21September. To realise that doesn't need to be
- 36:26spiritual because just in doing this, that is
- 36:30spiritual enough. I hope that makes some sort
- 36:35of sense to you and I hope on some level that
- 36:38helps you. I don't know, I can only put out there
- 36:43what I feel in this time. So yeah, I'm gonna
- 36:49leave it there. If I can, I normally get up early,
- 36:54you know, we're in a camper van, so A, I'm freezing
- 36:56my tits off and also we are woken by the sunrise,
- 37:01which is glorious. So I'll get up tomorrow morning
- 37:05and I will try and do a full of card and see
- 37:10what I feel with that. Time for bed to me. Lots
- 37:15of love until tomorrow. Good morning everyone.
- 37:32We woke up this morning to a wonderful sunrise
- 37:36and we opened up the van door to this incredible
- 37:43view of this beach with the rocks and the little
- 37:48islands in the distance the mountains in the
- 37:51distance and the clouds overhead were a dusky
- 37:56pinky peach as the Sun was starting to rise it
- 38:00was really Really quite ideal. So I thought I'd
- 38:04get up, get out of bed and I would pull a card
- 38:08and just see what happens. See what comes through.
- 38:13They always say that you should set your intention
- 38:18before doing any of this sort of work. And I
- 38:21guess my intention I want to set this morning.
- 38:24Yeah, it's a message for you. I think this episode
- 38:27is shaping into one about taking a break. The
- 38:34reason I chuckle is because I pulled this card
- 38:36for someone in the circle a few weeks ago. Isn't
- 38:43it funny how these things work? So I was in circle
- 38:46a few weeks ago and I pulled this card for actually
- 38:52somebody who will be appearing on the Psychic
- 38:55Explorer in a few months time. and it was about
- 39:00taking a break. So let me just lean into this
- 39:05card and just see what I can pull from it. Okay,
- 39:12I'll tell you what I'll do. I will post this
- 39:14actually as an Instagram post. So if you want
- 39:18to see this card, then you can see it. This woman.
- 39:25is in black she's in a long black dress and she's
- 39:28got a long black veil coming from the back of
- 39:31her hat she's got some used empty jars in front
- 39:36of her and there's a black cloak over the beehive
- 39:40these are the bee tarot cards I use they're a
- 39:43beautiful set of cards if you don't have them
- 39:46and you're a collector of tarot cards then my
- 39:48word or even oracle cards my word I would definitely
- 39:51invest in these The sense, if I'm gonna relate
- 39:57this to taking a break, this woman is almost
- 40:00in mourning. She is in mourning for lack of commitment.
- 40:05She's in mourning for the lack of persistence
- 40:10in her work. The place that she gets her power
- 40:14from has been sheathed in a black cloth. And
- 40:19she's concerned that she's not getting the most
- 40:23out of her source. She's not getting the most
- 40:27out of her power. These are used jars at the
- 40:31bottom of her feet. She sees these as energy
- 40:34spent and she's not looking at me. She's looking
- 40:36towards a path which winds its way past a little
- 40:41cottage into a woodland area. She's not sure
- 40:46of where the path goes. She's not sure of the
- 40:48path ahead and it's autumn. The leaves are changing.
- 40:52It's where she's going to go going to be fruitless
- 40:56because where she is at the moment she is surrounded
- 40:59by nuts and berries and if only she looked behind
- 41:03her if only she looked at what was behind her
- 41:06she would see that she still has two whole jars
- 41:10of honey she still has two jars of energy and
- 41:15I do interpret that to you dear listener that
- 41:20if you are feeling exhausted if you're feeling
- 41:25like you can't get any power from wherever you
- 41:30get your power from whether it is source whether
- 41:33it is said last night reading a book relaxing
- 41:37going on a walk or whatever it is if you don't
- 41:40have that power there's always something left
- 41:42and I always bring her up in my circle leader
- 41:45Nicholas she always says there's always something
- 41:48more it's always more And whenever I'm doing
- 41:52a reading, just trying to do one more thing,
- 41:54one more message. There's always something more.
- 41:59Although the bees are covered up in this black
- 42:02cloth, they're not fully covered. Some are still
- 42:05getting through. It might feel like you are disconnected.
- 42:09It might feel like I have been disconnected,
- 42:12or at least I feel like I have been disconnected,
- 42:14but I am not. We are not. We are still connected
- 42:17to our power. it might feel really comfortable
- 42:21just to stay put where you are because where
- 42:23you are is somewhere which is fruitful which
- 42:27is comfortable familiar you know you have your
- 42:31resources you have your home in front of you
- 42:32you have your food around you have water and
- 42:36you could take that journey into the unknown
- 42:40because the way I see it this card she is where
- 42:42she is she's comfortable but she's in mourning
- 42:46she's disconnected She's not feeling her power.
- 42:50She could take that journey to somewhere new
- 42:53and she could find an entire new power. She might
- 42:56not, but she could always come home. I'm gonna
- 43:04leave that one there. I don't wanna ramble on
- 43:05too much, but I hope that made some sort of sense
- 43:08to you. So for the moment, I'm sending all my
- 43:13love. Take care, bye. We decided to take a little
- 43:39day trip to an island called Staffa Island. Named
- 43:43by the Vikings because of the unique rock formations
- 43:47which looked like big rods, hexagonal rods, staffs
- 43:52as they would call them. It's a bit like the
- 43:55giant causeway but in island form. We're on our
- 44:01small wooden boat cutting our way through the
- 44:04deep blue water. Our tour guide who is not only
- 44:13informative but really friendly too gives us
- 44:16plenty of information on the way so that we can
- 44:18make sense of what we are seeing. We're looking
- 44:39across there on the left hand side or the port
- 44:42side of the boat is the island of Iona And Iona
- 44:47is three miles long by one and a half mile I
- 44:49love this sort of stuff. I love that some figures
- 44:52so anytime where anyone can give me new information
- 44:55I am all there so I am loving this tour guide
- 44:58We have nine children in our small primary school
- 45:05on the island He pilots us to this island which
- 45:10just lifts out of the ocean. It is something
- 45:13prehistoric. In the summer there are puffins
- 45:16which make their nests here but we are too late
- 45:19to see them. But as we disembark the boat onto
- 45:22the small concrete platform which is covered
- 45:25in barnacles and baby mussels, we climb the metal
- 45:29steps up onto the top of Stafford Island. and
- 45:34admire the views around. It's blustery it's a
- 45:52bit chilly but it is majestic and we just take
- 45:56time at the top to admire our surroundings. Stafford
- 46:12Island is not only famous for puffins and its
- 46:15unusual geology it's also home to a cave called
- 46:19Fingal's Cave and when everyone disembarked from
- 46:22the boat most people went around to see the cave
- 46:27Simon and I decided let's just hold fire on that
- 46:30one let's go to the top first and wait until
- 46:33everyone is done with the cave hoping that that
- 46:36would give us an opportunity to experience Fingal's
- 46:39Cave on our own So after about half an hour of
- 46:44taking selfies, getting precariously close to
- 46:47the edge of these sheer face cliffs which still
- 46:51at the age of 41 makes my knees wobble. I can't
- 46:55seem to get any closer than about a metre. But
- 46:59we make our way down the ladders and we walk
- 47:03along the path which has been marked out by the
- 47:06National Trust for Scotland. scrambling over
- 47:09large hexagonal rocks towards the direction of
- 47:12this huge gaping mouth in the side of this island.
- 47:18There are a few people there taking selfies and
- 47:20taking photos so we just wait and hold fire and
- 47:24after about five ten minutes of admiring the
- 47:28views of admiring the calmness of the sea and
- 47:32imagining how different this place must look
- 47:34in the middle of winter when the winter storms
- 47:36are rushing in off of the Atlantic causing huge
- 47:40white frothy waves crashing up against the unique
- 47:43rock structures that define this tiny speck of
- 47:47land I step in and straight away I notice the
- 47:53acoustics change There's not an echo. There is
- 48:05a surrounding. It's almost as if I'm in a soundproof
- 48:09chamber. This is no cave that I've ever been
- 48:13in before. This is utterly different. This is
- 48:19utterly unique. These hexagonal rocks which make
- 48:24up this structure are almost reminiscent of a
- 48:27cathedral. They look man -made. It's quite...
- 48:31Just for lack of a better word. It's quite phenomenal
- 48:34and I let my mind wander And I think of all the
- 48:38people who have visited this cave over the millennia
- 48:42Going all the way back to the Vikings the Celts
- 48:45and before them This cave must have hosted some
- 48:50sort of religious ceremony in days gone by it's
- 48:55just begging for Offerings to be made I can envision
- 48:59candles Set alongside the path to an altar in
- 49:04the far recesses of this cave. I take a moment
- 49:10and just sit there and just imagine and try and
- 49:15connect to Whatever there was in the past I have
- 49:27a moment in that cave and I re -emerge energized
- 49:33I re -emerged invigorated I re -emerge more me
- 49:40it's like the land has almost given birth to
- 49:44me I didn't say anything to Simon I didn't say
- 49:46anything I don't even think I acknowledge it
- 49:48to myself but just being in contact with something
- 49:52so ancient so of the earth so awe -inspiring.
- 50:02It reminds me that my life here and now, as important
- 50:08as it is, it's not everything. Matt Morris is
- 50:13just fleeting. I am here for a millisecond, a
- 50:19heartbeat, not even a heartbeat, a blink in the
- 50:23lifespan of this planet, of this universe. and
- 50:29all these things that I am worried about, all
- 50:32these world events that I have no control over,
- 50:37yet I put on my shoulders, whether that be the
- 50:41genocide in Gaza, whether that be the rise of
- 50:46nationalism in my own country and the world,
- 50:50the hardening of people's hearts to people in
- 50:53need. I can only have impact on the people that
- 50:59I come into contact with, the people that I connect
- 51:03with and the people who connect with me. Before
- 51:09I went away to Scotland I was feeling disconnected.
- 51:13For me this psychic spiritual mediumship work
- 51:17it is so important to me and I want to be the
- 51:23best I can be at it. And as I said, when I was
- 51:27sat on the beach, when I was stood at the standing
- 51:31stones at Lotbui, there is this expectation that
- 51:35if you're a spiritual person, that needs to be
- 51:38your entire being and that is not me. I can be
- 51:44cynical, I can be scientific, I can be very logical.
- 51:51I am not one for pulling a card every day. I
- 51:55am not one for meditating every day I have this
- 51:59gift as we all do as I strongly and firmly believe
- 52:04we all do but I have not been practicing this
- 52:08gift as much as I have done in the past and with
- 52:13that comes guilt with that comes a self -imposed
- 52:16expectation that expectation does not exist from
- 52:20anyone else it's purely something I am putting
- 52:23on to me I have so many different interests.
- 52:28I keep up to date with world affairs. To my detriment,
- 52:34hands up, especially recently, especially this
- 52:37year, it's just been awful one thing after another.
- 52:41And I have had things go on in my family life
- 52:46which have not been fun. The plans I made have
- 52:51not worked out. As I said to someone before I
- 52:54went away life has been very lifey recently I
- 53:01guess I needed to disconnect from my life to
- 53:06reconnect to me and I hope that resonates with
- 53:11you while I was away surrounded by this incredible
- 53:16Scottish landscape I wasn't checking Instagram,
- 53:20I wasn't checking Facebook every half hour. I
- 53:24wasn't checking the news. I wasn't listening
- 53:27to my political podcasts. I was just in the moment
- 53:33with Simon having profound conversations and
- 53:37talking shit in equal measure. Laughing, having
- 53:41fun, exploring, doing what we do best as a couple
- 53:46we explore. I'm going to draw this episode to
- 53:51a close. I really hope you've enjoyed this little
- 53:54journey through the Western Isles of Scotland
- 53:57with me. If you are feeling that expectation
- 54:00that you need to be more than you can be at this
- 54:06moment, at any moment, I would encourage you
- 54:09to give yourself that permission to just step
- 54:11back, step back, re -evaluate. and find that
- 54:18you. Find that you that sparks. Find that you
- 54:22that is calm. Find that center. And so I will
- 54:28leave you with the sounds of the bright veil
- 54:31waterfall on the island sky. Take a moment to
- 54:36just close your eyes and visualize yourself stepping
- 54:41under this beautiful waterfall. and let the cold
- 54:46water of the Scottish Highlands wash away your
- 54:50cares, wash away your worries and reinvigorate
- 54:56you. Take care guys, bye.
