Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm I'm Tyler Beam. I sing for a band called
- 0:02Speaker 1: The Last Ten Seconds of Life. We have a new
- 0:05Speaker 1: album coming out called The Dead Ones via Metal Plade Wreckers.
- 0:09Speaker 1: On April seventeenth, we released two new songs from that album.
- 0:13Speaker 1: One's called The Dead Ones the title track, and one
- 0:15Speaker 1: is called make It to Heaven featuring David Simonich from
- 0:19Speaker 1: Signs of the Swarm.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Testy Tyala, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a pleasure.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Both sides.
- 0:28Speaker 4: CID The Last Ten Seconds of Live unleash your new album,
- 0:31Speaker 4: The Dead Ones on April seventeen.
- 0:33Speaker 2: So how you feel about it?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Oh? Absolutely, immaculately. It is without a doubt.
- 0:41Speaker 1: The best piece of music that any of us have
- 0:43Speaker 1: created or collaborated on. And it's got a little piece
- 0:48Speaker 1: of every thing that we've ever made, put it all
- 0:52Speaker 1: together in one big kind of album, and we touched
- 0:55Speaker 1: on everything that the band has kind of touched on
- 0:58Speaker 1: before since the beginning of the discography up unto right now.
- 1:02Speaker 3: So it's like pretty.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Much just a Pope Marie of everything that we absolutely
- 1:07Speaker 1: loved about the band, put.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Right there in a package with a little bow on
- 1:11Speaker 3: the top.
- 1:12Speaker 4: No, so I like packages with bus especially this dom
- 1:14Speaker 4: to day. Hell yeah, hell yeah, could you drive me
- 1:19Speaker 4: to the album? B David musically first Crowne, tell us
- 1:21Speaker 4: what you've done for.
- 1:23Speaker 3: So with the EP.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Whenever this new lineup came together, we kind of you know,
- 1:29Speaker 1: shot out a couple different sounds to see what would
- 1:31Speaker 1: stick for all of us, because all of us kind
- 1:35Speaker 1: of come from different backgrounds. I have a band called
- 1:37Speaker 1: Promise Breaker with my high school friends that we've been
- 1:40Speaker 1: around for around ten years at this point. We kind
- 1:43Speaker 1: of sit into the hardcore atmosphere a little bit. Our
- 1:46Speaker 1: drummer he plays for a death metal band called Distension.
- 1:51Speaker 1: He also played he also plays for a band called
- 1:53Speaker 1: Visceral Discord, and he's played for.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Bands like Rivers of Nile before.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So he's got like a really fast, precision based death
- 2:02Speaker 1: metal kind of aspect that he brings to the table.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And Drew our bass player.
- 2:08Speaker 1: He comes from, you know, the Northeast, like New York
- 2:11Speaker 1: kind of like deathcore metal core kind of scene hardcore
- 2:15Speaker 1: as well, so all of uh and of course Wyatt
- 2:17Speaker 1: who originated the band, he's got a really you know,
- 2:21Speaker 1: rich background in like rhythm and blues and rock and roll.
- 2:25Speaker 3: So whenever he formed the band.
- 2:27Speaker 1: He kind of took that Northeastern beat down death core
- 2:30Speaker 1: style and mixed it with like, you know, a little
- 2:33Speaker 1: bit of the rock and roll energy, which makes him
- 2:36Speaker 1: unique and original in his own way. And so whenever
- 2:39Speaker 1: we made that EP, we kind of shot out a
- 2:41Speaker 1: bunch of stuff to see what would stick, because.
- 2:43Speaker 3: We all come from different backgrounds.
- 2:45Speaker 1: And after we did that EP, we realized, like, hey,
- 2:47Speaker 1: we really like doing just like the heavy, groovy shit.
- 2:52Speaker 1: We like being fast, but we also like to make
- 2:54Speaker 1: sure that we're all bob in our head. And so
- 2:57Speaker 1: we kind of we wrote No Name Graves, and we
- 3:00Speaker 1: focused on making sure that everything was just heavy, heavy,
- 3:02Speaker 1: heavy heavy. And then coming out of that album, after
- 3:06Speaker 1: playing and touring and doing a good amount of album cycling,
- 3:10Speaker 1: we started to realize what we liked about, you know, songwriting,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and so we took the elements of heaviness that we
- 3:19Speaker 1: liked and all the other aspects of our background and
- 3:23Speaker 1: brought it to what we liked in the structure and
- 3:27Speaker 1: in the in the integrity of a song. So we've
- 3:31Speaker 1: really focused on songwriting after we found what sound we liked.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Ye, you mentioned the singles you've released, the Dead Ones
- 3:40Speaker 4: and make it to Heaven. So I think of Sonny
- 3:42Speaker 4: representation of what we expect overall from the album.
- 3:46Speaker 1: You know, I would say that those songs are kind
- 3:49Speaker 1: of well, they're they're not as heavy as there as
- 3:52Speaker 1: the rest of the album.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Uh. I mean that's not to say that those songs
- 3:56Speaker 3: aren't heavy.
- 3:56Speaker 1: They're definitely heavy as fuck, but the rest the album
- 4:00Speaker 1: kind of has a lot more a little bit of
- 4:03Speaker 1: more of a visceral of kind of attack to it,
- 4:08Speaker 1: but it still has the same packaging as I would
- 4:11Speaker 1: say these songs have. They're all like all the songs
- 4:14Speaker 1: on this album are kind of like a like a uniform,
- 4:17Speaker 1: you know, song. Every we focused on what the best
- 4:20Speaker 1: parts were. We took the best of the best of
- 4:23Speaker 1: everything that we had and we put it into every
- 4:26Speaker 1: single song.
- 4:27Speaker 3: You know, we probably.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Had like maybe fifteen to twenty song ideas that we
- 4:32Speaker 1: had demoed out.
- 4:33Speaker 3: We were writing.
- 4:34Speaker 1: We were writing, we were writing even while we were
- 4:36Speaker 1: out on tour. You know, we were hanging out together
- 4:38Speaker 1: in the green room, we had the laptop open, we
- 4:40Speaker 1: were writing and writing, and we just didn't stop until
- 4:43Speaker 1: we had ten songs that were absolutely the best of
- 4:46Speaker 1: what we could.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Make and one of those songs, Making to Heaven, you
- 4:50Speaker 4: mentioned Scot David from Signs of the Swam on it, So, hey,
- 4:53Speaker 4: what a guy is I interviewed in but long A
- 4:55Speaker 4: Guy's Fantastic Game in Bayan inny Oh.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Absolutely, that's like know, one of our first bigger tours
- 5:02Speaker 1: that we did with this lineup was Carnifex Sons of
- 5:05Speaker 1: the Swarm to the Grave and us as one of four,
- 5:08Speaker 1: and you know, met all of the all of the
- 5:12Speaker 1: dudes in that package were absolutely great hanks, wonderful people.
- 5:17Speaker 1: We we especially connected with Signs of the Swarm. Those
- 5:21Speaker 1: are some of our you know, I've known Carl the
- 5:25Speaker 1: guitar player for a.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Long long time.
- 5:28Speaker 1: David has been, you know, a longtime fan of the
- 5:31Speaker 1: Last ten Seconds of Life. And you know, we're all
- 5:34Speaker 1: Pennsylvania boys, so we all connected together on that. Uh,
- 5:39Speaker 1: we all became kind of like, you know, best friends
- 5:41Speaker 1: after that tour, and you know, I called David you
- 5:44Speaker 1: know sometimes every day, you know, because him and I
- 5:46Speaker 1: are just we're we got close from that, and so
- 5:49Speaker 1: it's just great to go out there and meet wonderful
- 5:52Speaker 1: people like David.
- 5:53Speaker 2: You know, they're playing in Brisbane tomorrow night.
- 5:57Speaker 3: So I'm going to say him that's right there, We're
- 6:00Speaker 3: there right now.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Hell yeah, oh yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 4: You've got a few other guests on the album, right,
- 6:06Speaker 4: but the one there was it was for me to say,
- 6:08Speaker 4: it was awesome that you got to actually original late
- 6:11Speaker 4: singer has come back on it. Yeah.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Uh, you know, we for this album, you know, all
- 6:18Speaker 1: of the features that we'd got, we kind of tried
- 6:21Speaker 1: to keep it in the family. People that we knew,
- 6:23Speaker 1: people that we really loved, people that we've been on
- 6:25Speaker 1: out on the road with, you know Storm. You know,
- 6:28Speaker 1: the band has a has like a long list of alumni,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and we like to stay.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Close with everybody.
- 6:34Speaker 1: We like to stay you know, keep everything cool, and
- 6:37Speaker 1: uh you know, I wanted to pay homage a lot
- 6:40Speaker 1: with this album to what the band was and going
- 6:44Speaker 1: into the new chapter. You know, we're obviously taking it
- 6:48Speaker 1: to a new place, a new chapter. We're taking it
- 6:51Speaker 1: to a new thing where I'm doing a lot of
- 6:53Speaker 1: I'm doing a lot of me on this album. I'm
- 6:55Speaker 1: doing a lot of new stuff with myself on this album.
- 6:58Speaker 1: But I also wanted to make sure that, uh, you know,
- 7:02Speaker 1: I wanted to pay homage to what the band was
- 7:04Speaker 1: and to where it came from originally, and so when
- 7:07Speaker 1: we were we we we made that song. You know, I
- 7:11Speaker 1: think me and Wyatt both decided, like, you know, this
- 7:14Speaker 1: would be a great fit for Storm.
- 7:16Speaker 3: We hit Storm up.
- 7:17Speaker 1: You know, he's still one of our good front good friends,
- 7:20Speaker 1: one of our boys. Uh, and he was more than
- 7:22Speaker 1: down to come and rock with us. So you know,
- 7:25Speaker 1: I'm very happy that he wanted to do it.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Uh.
- 7:28Speaker 1: He came to hang out with us on on one
- 7:30Speaker 1: of the at one of the shows.
- 7:31Speaker 3: You know, I'm going to be hanging out with him
- 7:33Speaker 3: in a couple of.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Months, you know, So it was just it was just
- 7:36Speaker 1: great to have him be a part of it.
- 7:38Speaker 2: It said something there that I want to explore a
- 7:40Speaker 2: big day for mate. You said that there's a lot
- 7:42Speaker 2: of youth on the album. What do you mean by that?
- 7:46Speaker 3: Uh?
- 7:46Speaker 1: Well, I I did a lot of songwriting on this album.
- 7:49Speaker 1: On the on the previous discography, Wyatt has done mainly
- 7:55Speaker 1: all of the songwriting, but on this album, I Am
- 8:00Speaker 1: I Am. I Am also gonna be one of the
- 8:02Speaker 1: main songwriters as well. On two of the songs specifically,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I wrote in their entirety together. So it's kind of
- 8:11Speaker 1: like a little bit of a of a change of
- 8:12Speaker 1: pace as far as the last ten seconds of life
- 8:14Speaker 1: goes cool now.
- 8:16Speaker 4: Lyrically, the Dead Ones follows of themes of death and
- 8:20Speaker 4: rebirth that were outlined on your previous album No Name Graves,
- 8:24Speaker 4: but this song's focuses on the human experiences as well
- 8:27Speaker 4: as band member design struggles. So would you say overall
- 8:31Speaker 4: it's an album of hope or an album of despair?
- 8:34Speaker 3: Both? Man?
- 8:36Speaker 1: You know, we we could, we have taken all of
- 8:40Speaker 1: the aspects of everything that really the band has written
- 8:42Speaker 1: about and kind of brought it, brought it all to
- 8:45Speaker 1: the table. There's a lot of you know, there's songs
- 8:48Speaker 1: about lost, There's songs about you know, there could there.
- 8:52Speaker 1: There's songs about hope and grinding and and and getting
- 8:55Speaker 1: to the next next chapter. You know, there's songs about
- 8:58Speaker 1: feeling lost. There's songs about you know, grinding and keep
- 9:03Speaker 1: it keeping going, you know, go to the next chapter,
- 9:06Speaker 1: don't fucking stop. There's like a lot of songs, you know,
- 9:09Speaker 1: there's a few songs that are.
- 9:10Speaker 3: That kind of touch on the fact of community, you know.
- 9:13Speaker 1: As far as the you know, we like to think
- 9:16Speaker 1: of ourselves as the Dead Ones. Our fans as the
- 9:20Speaker 1: Dead Ones, our OG fans as the Dead Ones, the
- 9:22Speaker 1: New fans as the Dead Ones. And when we come
- 9:25Speaker 1: together as a community, we are the Dead Ones together,
- 9:28Speaker 1: you know, And so we're paying homage to everybody that's
- 9:30Speaker 1: been a part of the band.
- 9:32Speaker 3: You know. That's kind of also where Storm ties into it.
- 9:35Speaker 1: You know, he's a dead one all together, we are
- 9:38Speaker 1: the family and we are the Dead Ones.
- 9:39Speaker 3: So that's where like kind of the theme of the
- 9:41Speaker 3: album comes from.
- 9:42Speaker 2: That's so cool.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Now, Yeah, you recorded the album with a six string baruchine,
- 9:48Speaker 4: a viper from esp Limited, so it was tuned to
- 9:52Speaker 4: drop f made, which is the same as the twenty
- 9:55Speaker 4: ten EP Warpath Like that sounds impressive, but for me,
- 9:58Speaker 4: people like me know nothing about music.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Mike, can you put that in English? And then what
- 10:03Speaker 2: it actually meant for the sand.
- 10:05Speaker 1: So, I mean a lot of people, a lot of
- 10:07Speaker 1: bands usually use you know, seven or eight strings to
- 10:11Speaker 1: get that sound. But why it stuck to the sixth
- 10:16Speaker 1: string and said, hey, hell no, I can make this
- 10:18Speaker 1: guitar sound just as heavy as that one. And so
- 10:22Speaker 1: you know, we're just sticking to it. We're grinding it out.
- 10:25Speaker 1: That's that's why it's style. That's how he writes, and
- 10:29Speaker 1: you know, there's not many guitar players that do it
- 10:31Speaker 1: like him. As far as that tuning and that setup,
- 10:35Speaker 1: it's it's it's kind of a Anybody who plays the
- 10:38Speaker 1: guitar or a set up a guitar knows how hard
- 10:41Speaker 1: it can be to get a guitar to sound good
- 10:43Speaker 1: in that setup and why it makes it happen. So
- 10:47Speaker 1: that's what makes him one of the That's what makes
- 10:49Speaker 1: him one of the absolute best.
- 10:51Speaker 2: So does that give give you your arm sort of
- 10:53Speaker 2: unique sand a little bit in that way?
- 10:55Speaker 3: I would say it definitely helps. It's definitely a contributor.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Well, uh, this is gonna be a second consecutive album
- 11:03Speaker 4: with the same lineup mates. So how's the band come
- 11:06Speaker 4: together musically over those two albums.
- 11:10Speaker 3: It's been great, man.
- 11:12Speaker 1: You know, everybody brings to the table, you know, their
- 11:14Speaker 1: own thing, their own.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Kind of sauce.
- 11:18Speaker 1: You know, Like I said before, Dylan is one of
- 11:20Speaker 1: the most precise and fast drummers I've ever played with,
- 11:23Speaker 1: one of the best I've ever actually even seen play live.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Dylan just has an absolute you know, heavy picking hand,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and he's just one of the most consistent rippers I've
- 11:35Speaker 1: ever played with as well. Wyat Master songwriter, genius songwriter
- 11:41Speaker 1: has his own energy, kind of different sound that he
- 11:45Speaker 1: brings to the genre, which which you know, it kind
- 11:48Speaker 1: of ties us to the death core atmosphere but also
- 11:51Speaker 1: breaks us apart from it. You could definitely tell tell
- 11:54Speaker 1: it tell whenever it's us versus other bands.
- 11:58Speaker 4: Uh.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And as far as I go, you know, I try
- 12:02Speaker 1: to remain true to what Storm did and what John
- 12:05Speaker 1: did for the band, but I also definitely bring to
- 12:09Speaker 1: the table my own thing, and so we all bring
- 12:12Speaker 1: we all bring our own flavors. We come together, we
- 12:15Speaker 1: work well, we love being out on the road.
- 12:17Speaker 3: With each other.
- 12:18Speaker 1: We're buddies, we're professional, you know, coworkers. It's a it's
- 12:22Speaker 1: a good relationship, a good balance of professional atmosphere and
- 12:26Speaker 1: best buddies.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Nice.
- 12:28Speaker 4: Now, then you mentioned a few times the mixture genres
- 12:32Speaker 4: and stalls that goes into the package to make up
- 12:34Speaker 4: the band in the creative process, how do you get
- 12:37Speaker 4: the balance of all of those? Ride Like, I don't know,
- 12:39Speaker 4: when you're gone too far in one direction or maybe
- 12:41Speaker 4: not far enough in.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Another, experimenting, experimenting, sitting on it, you know, you write
- 12:47Speaker 1: a song, you do too much with it. You take
- 12:49Speaker 1: away from it. You're you're constantly working. And anybody who's
- 12:53Speaker 1: a musician or a creator or you know, just a
- 12:56Speaker 1: creative in general, you know you're you're always working on
- 12:59Speaker 1: your and so as far as as far as the
- 13:02Speaker 1: last two seconds of life goes, we're always writing. I'm
- 13:05Speaker 1: always sitting here at my desk, you know, writing a song,
- 13:08Speaker 1: practicing my vocals, doing a cover. Why it's doing the
- 13:11Speaker 1: same thing. We're always always working on our craft. In
- 13:14Speaker 1: that way, whenever we come together, we know exactly what
- 13:17Speaker 1: to do to make it sound the.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Best out of out of all of our strengths.
- 13:23Speaker 4: This's not actually just come to me while you're talking
- 13:25Speaker 4: in bright but with a band name like the last
- 13:27Speaker 4: ten seconds of life? Like, to you, what does the
- 13:29Speaker 4: last ten seconds of life look like?
- 13:33Speaker 3: Are you talking about the band name itself?
- 13:34Speaker 2: Yeah, about the band name the last ten seconds live?
- 13:36Speaker 4: But for you personally, what do you reckon the last
- 13:39Speaker 4: ten seconds of life would look like? Uh?
- 13:44Speaker 1: In reality, I'm maybe I'm confused by the question. Do
- 13:47Speaker 1: you mean like like what the band or literally the
- 13:50Speaker 1: last ten the last ten seconds of life? You know,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I feel like it's like it's almost like a you
- 13:57Speaker 1: know how the saying is your life flashes before your eyes.
- 14:03Speaker 3: I like to kind of think of it like.
- 14:04Speaker 2: That, right, So.
- 14:07Speaker 1: You know, thematically the band the Last ten seconds of Life,
- 14:11Speaker 1: you know which it comes from.
- 14:13Speaker 3: It comes from the Smiths song.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Yeah, But as far as as far as what I
- 14:18Speaker 1: kind of think and personally what it means to me.
- 14:21Speaker 1: You know, everything flows through your brain at that one
- 14:24Speaker 1: moment before you die, and so it's kind of like
- 14:27Speaker 1: an idea of you know, make it worthwhile, take a stab,
- 14:32Speaker 1: take the risk, do that crazy thing. Don't be what
- 14:36Speaker 1: everybody else is, you know, turn the world upside down,
- 14:39Speaker 1: refuse to fall to your knees like the rest, you know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: like do do.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Your own thing.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Make it worthwhile, you know, because at that last, those
- 14:47Speaker 1: last ten seconds of your life, you're gonna be thinking
- 14:50Speaker 1: about that.
- 14:51Speaker 4: Oh yeah, let's actually giving me an idea, probably said
- 14:53Speaker 4: the conspiracy theorist into iby Drive.
- 14:55Speaker 2: But you just sailed on the last and second to
- 14:58Speaker 2: your life, your brains.
- 14:58Speaker 4: But all the eye the light about every happening, what
- 15:01Speaker 4: if that's what actually kills you? Your brain overloads and
- 15:04Speaker 4: that's why people die.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Well, I was.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I've been told that, like there it's a it's like
- 15:10Speaker 3: a d MT trip right or or something. So you
- 15:15Speaker 3: never know, man, you never know.
- 15:16Speaker 1: A lot of people say that they see the fourth
- 15:18Speaker 1: dimension and they meet God. So whatever you know I have,
- 15:22Speaker 1: I can't tell you what I don't I have Personally,
- 15:24Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I won't know until it happens.
- 15:27Speaker 2: So, but what if that's what actually kills people?
- 15:30Speaker 4: Like they might be sick, but it's the fact that
- 15:31Speaker 4: their brain goes into overload because everything's going like that,
- 15:35Speaker 4: and and then it exposed, and that's why people die.
- 15:38Speaker 3: You know what you're you're you know what?
- 15:40Speaker 1: You might be onto something. Man, you might have cracked
- 15:43Speaker 1: the code. You might have figured it out.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I should get up early more often, should I?
- 15:51Speaker 1: Child?
- 15:51Speaker 4: Thanks you, Tom, may be the pleasure speaking with you.
- 15:53Speaker 4: The Dead Ones is out April seventeen, Bro. Hopefully you
- 15:56Speaker 4: make it over to say we catch.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Up another ber dude.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I would love to come out to Australia. You know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: we've got a few offers to come out there. I
- 16:07Speaker 1: don't think that the band is at the point where
- 16:08Speaker 1: we can make it make it happen, but hopefully soon
- 16:12Speaker 1: we will be out there to jam for all of
- 16:14Speaker 1: y'all out there. We have a few friends out there
- 16:16Speaker 1: that we would love to meet and we would love
