Latest / NRBC Compliance Brief / Vol. 1, Ed. 77 — Thu Oct 29: Illinois retailers wind down THC drink sales
Transcript
- This is the New Realm Compliance Brief, Volume one, Edition seventy-seven, for Thursday, October twenty-ninth. Our top story: retailers across Illinois are winding down sales of hemp T H C drinks ahead of November twelfth, when state law reclassifies intoxicating hemp products containing point four milligrams or more of total T H C as cannabis that may be sold only through licensed dispensaries. The Peoria Journal Star reports that Binny's Beverage Depot is running a countdown banner and marking down inventory, while Friar Tuck Beverage and Peoria's U F S Outlet Center are also clearing stock. Governor J B Pritzker said the law closes the intoxicating hemp loophole. For retail accounts, that leaves about two weeks to sell through the category. At the federal level, the Drug Enforcement Administration is preparing to publish a daily-updated list of state-licensed medical cannabis businesses that applied for federal protections under April's rescheduling order. The agency has begun on-site inspections of applicants, and Senator Cory Booker said its handling of employees with past felony records is, in his words, really problematic. Around the states: Vermont C B D producers say the federal cap of point four milligrams of total T H C per container, effective December eleventh, would make most full-spectrum products noncompliant, and are reformulating or downsizing at significant cost. A Nevada legislative study found shifting the fifteen percent wholesale cannabis tax to retail would push combined rates in Clark County to about twenty-three percent, and recommended tax parity between hemp and cannabis products. And in Oregon, regulators meet today on lifting the moratorium on new cannabis wholesale licenses. On the radar: November twelfth, synthetic cannabinoids leave the federal hemp definition. December eleventh, the federal T H C cap takes effect. And the Supreme Court has agreed to review the eighteen sixty-eight ban on home distilling. Full details and source links are in today's email.
