- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, coach, first half of the season almost in
- 0:03Speaker 1: the books, wrapping it up with the home and home
- 0:05Speaker 1: series versus Merrimack this upcoming weekend. Just want to get
- 0:08Speaker 1: your thoughts on this upcoming weekend and then overall the
- 0:12Speaker 1: first half of the season.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's uh, you know, we certainly have
- 0:18Speaker 2: a tall task on our hands. I believe this, you know,
- 0:24Speaker 2: Friday night against Merrimack, I believe if I'm correct, they're
- 0:29Speaker 2: five and two at home. They have wins over Quinnipiac,
- 0:33Speaker 2: BU I know, New Hampshire Providence. You know, it's a
- 0:38Speaker 2: tough place to play. Lalla Arena. I've been there quite
- 0:42Speaker 2: a bit throughout my life, growing up playing there and
- 0:46Speaker 2: then having coached there for many years. So it's a
- 0:50Speaker 2: great building. I love playing there. I think it's you know,
- 0:54Speaker 2: the fans are right on top of you. The game
- 0:56Speaker 2: happens really fast, and they've been playing pretty well well too.
- 1:00Speaker 2: I think I know that they lost a tough game
- 1:03Speaker 2: at Dartmouth. I actually watched that game one nothing, but
- 1:06Speaker 2: you know, now Landgren's been good in net. Powell's experienced
- 1:10Speaker 2: guy on defense, and you know, Gil and Pierre and
- 1:14Speaker 2: Hoskin have been putting up quite a few points lately.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Awesome, I Joe, you want to start us off?
- 1:23Speaker 3: Sure, Heykev, how are you?
- 1:25Speaker 2: I'm good, Joe, how are you?
- 1:26Speaker 3: I'm good? Thanks, Hope you had a good Thanksgiving?
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you too.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Yeah, first half of the year is almost over. When
- 1:33Speaker 3: you when you look back, what is it about your
- 1:36Speaker 3: team that you've really liked, how they've how they've either
- 1:39Speaker 3: gotten better or played, And what's one thing you'd like
- 1:42Speaker 3: to clean up heading towards the second half of the year.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, uh, that's a good question. I think
- 1:53Speaker 2: one area we have to clean up is defensive zone
- 1:55Speaker 2: face offs. I believe we're giving up two many shots
- 2:00Speaker 2: off our defensive zone face offs. I believe we have
- 2:03Speaker 2: to clean up our odd man rushes against. I think
- 2:08Speaker 2: at times that, uh, you know, we don't. There's times
- 2:16Speaker 2: where our deal pinch and our forwards not covering, and
- 2:19Speaker 2: there's times where there's there's a disconnect sometimes between our
- 2:27Speaker 2: D and r F three. That that's an area that
- 2:29Speaker 2: we've certainly got to manage better. I've been pretty you know.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of areas, Joe. I think
- 2:39Speaker 2: our penalty killing has been really good at times, and
- 2:43Speaker 2: at times where lack a couple of details and it
- 2:48Speaker 2: winds up in our net. So there's a lot of
- 2:50Speaker 2: different areas. You know, our power play can get better.
- 2:55Speaker 2: We can an area that's been tough for us. I
- 2:58Speaker 2: think the last maybe five games. I don't know if
- 3:03Speaker 2: we're creating enough shifts where we're getting multiple shot shifts
- 3:08Speaker 2: and really having a team in offensively. I don't believe that.
- 3:14Speaker 2: And that's usually a staple of our team when we're
- 3:17Speaker 2: wearing another team down in the offensive zone and one
- 3:22Speaker 2: day it's hard for them to play offense because they
- 3:26Speaker 2: get tired defending, and you know, two, it allows us
- 3:32Speaker 2: to you know, when you're creating those multiple shot shifts,
- 3:37Speaker 2: it's going to lead to more goals. What have you
- 3:41Speaker 2: liked from the first half, Uh, I like our compete.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I like our I like our compete, and I like
- 3:53Speaker 2: our balance. We have, you know, four lines that can score,
- 4:00Speaker 2: so any one of our lines can score. We probably
- 4:08Speaker 2: I like that. I like our competitiveness. I think Tyler
- 4:11Speaker 2: Muslik has been very solid in goal, and I think
- 4:15Speaker 2: overall our defensive corps played pretty solid as well.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Have you been surprised or not? Probably not, because you
- 4:24Speaker 3: recruited him. And how easily the freshmen have assimilated themselves
- 4:28Speaker 3: to college hockey. I mean, they're all the freshmen who
- 4:31Speaker 3: you've played, even Cam who hasn't looked out of place
- 4:34Speaker 3: at all the two games in goal. I mean, the
- 4:36Speaker 3: freshmen have all had some really really great moments and
- 4:41Speaker 3: a lot of solid moments. Yeah, I guess, yeah, a
- 4:47Speaker 3: little bit. You know, they've all contributed. I think probably
- 4:52Speaker 3: the most surprising of the freshmen is Anthony Elaine Samaki
- 4:58Speaker 3: because he's so young for us and for him to
- 5:02Speaker 3: come in, and I think he's really gotten better as
- 5:07Speaker 3: the season's gone on, and he's become acclimated to how
- 5:11Speaker 3: we want to play.
- 5:13Speaker 2: He's really grasped that he's someone that I think could
- 5:17Speaker 2: be really special someday.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And what's the health status of Joey and Trey going
- 5:23Speaker 3: into the weekend.
- 5:26Speaker 2: They both practiced yesterday, but they have not gone through it.
- 5:33Speaker 2: They have not practiced full contact yet, so it's still
- 5:37Speaker 2: both of them are still fifty to fifty. So I'm
- 5:40Speaker 2: not trying to be coy. I'm just until they get
- 5:44Speaker 2: through a practice, I think it's gonna be one of
- 5:46Speaker 2: those things, Joe where we're not going to probably know
- 5:48Speaker 2: it all Thursday night?
- 5:51Speaker 3: Is it? If they don't play Friday, they won't play Saturday?
- 5:53Speaker 2: In your opinion? Or not necessarily?
- 5:57Speaker 3: Okay, not necessarily all right, I see the Florida the
- 6:02Speaker 3: junior senator from Connecticut.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Okay, go ahead, Dan, there's no one else on this call.
- 6:09Speaker 4: I'm guessing that's me.
- 6:12Speaker 5: Sorry, my voice has decided to take vacation early.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Just what is Joey dealing with? I don't think we've
- 6:23Speaker 4: asked you that. I know it happened at the end
- 6:25Speaker 4: of the un h game, but.
- 6:26Speaker 5: It's an upper body Yeah, and I don't think I've
- 6:33Speaker 5: asked about him in a while.
- 6:34Speaker 4: But is Joe done for the first half? Odie Nick,
- 6:40Speaker 4: what do you mean done?
- 6:42Speaker 2: Like?
- 6:42Speaker 4: Is is he still out for the Merrimac series?
- 6:45Speaker 2: Healthy?
- 6:47Speaker 4: Oh?
- 6:47Speaker 3: He has?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Okay? Yeah? Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 4: What have you seen from him in practice? Uh? To
- 6:55Speaker 4: uh just since he's been back and uh what he's done?
- 7:00Speaker 2: Who Joey up? Yeah? Yeah, No, he's a big, big
- 7:04Speaker 2: power forward. He's certainly like I said, he's been back
- 7:08Speaker 2: practicing probably a couple of weeks now. Full up. It's
- 7:13Speaker 2: just you know, right now, it's a situation where we've
- 7:16Speaker 2: got you know, twelve pretty good forwards in front of
- 7:20Speaker 2: him right now, either with Joey Muldowney out. You know,
- 7:25Speaker 2: we've got twelve pretty good forwards in front of him.
- 7:27Speaker 2: But he's knocking right on the door. And he's a
- 7:29Speaker 2: kid that you know, it's not gonna surprise me if
- 7:32Speaker 2: he's in a lineup at some point this season.
- 7:35Speaker 4: And then back to Anthony, he's been on your power
- 7:39Speaker 4: play for a couple of weekends.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Now, what do you like about him on that unit
- 7:45Speaker 5: and what has he shown you to get that spot?
- 7:51Speaker 2: Well, uh, you know, Tyler makes a lot of the
- 7:55Speaker 2: decisions on personnel with the power play, and I think
- 7:58Speaker 2: he likes the fact of his mobility and how he
- 8:01Speaker 2: handles the puck. He's made pretty good decisions. He's got
- 8:05Speaker 2: a good shot from the top that he can get down.
- 8:07Speaker 6: And with Trey Scott out, you know, we've had to
- 8:11Speaker 6: put you know, we'd like to have at least one
- 8:14Speaker 6: defenseman on a power play, and you know, he's kind
- 8:20Speaker 6: of been the guy who's taken that opportunity and ran
- 8:24Speaker 6: with it.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Has he gotten more comfortable with the puck on his
- 8:29Speaker 5: stick as the season's gone on.
- 8:31Speaker 2: No, no question, I believe that. But it's not only that.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I've been really impressed, Like he's always been an excellent skater,
- 8:39Speaker 2: but defensively, he's very strong for a young kid. He's
- 8:44Speaker 2: really strong on his skates. And how he's been able
- 8:46Speaker 2: to close plays out and make plays. You know, some
- 8:51Speaker 2: of his breakout passes have not only been does he
- 8:55Speaker 2: make the simple tape to tape outlet pass, but he
- 8:58Speaker 2: can make a pass find a center up the middle.
- 9:02Speaker 2: He's been really good lately making those decisions.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Then Caden's now tied as one of your leading scorers.
- 9:15Speaker 5: It took him a while to get that second goal,
- 9:17Speaker 5: but now he's put in a few over the last
- 9:20Speaker 5: couple of weeks. Where do you see his game right
- 9:24Speaker 5: now and his progression.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's playing really well, and I think
- 9:28Speaker 2: it starts with his legs. He skates so well and
- 9:32Speaker 2: that's what creates a lot of his opportunities. He's a
- 9:35Speaker 2: kid that you know, he's getting a little bit more
- 9:37Speaker 2: penalty killed time now because he's skating such a factor.
- 9:42Speaker 2: He's physical. He's really another kid that I think in
- 9:47Speaker 2: the second half you can see him take a big,
- 9:49Speaker 2: big jump.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Can you talk about how Carlin has up during the year.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I mean he's become pretty liable, reliable offensively. Obviously had
- 10:05Speaker 3: the experience in the sea. But what I what have
- 10:08Speaker 3: you liked about how he's gotten better from starting camp
- 10:11Speaker 3: till now.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he's he's another one who has the
- 10:15Speaker 2: ability to be a great two hundred foot player. He's
- 10:19Speaker 2: pretty good on face offs. Uh, he skates.
- 10:22Speaker 3: You know.
- 10:23Speaker 2: The other the other night, his back pressure when we
- 10:26Speaker 2: played stone Hill was why we scored that Why why
- 10:30Speaker 2: he scored that tying goal. He he made an incredible
- 10:35Speaker 2: play back press during the pocket, stealing the pocket that
- 10:38Speaker 2: it went to you know, Blazer, and then he turned
- 10:43Speaker 2: around and went right to the net and Blazer found
- 10:44Speaker 2: him going to the net. But it all started with
- 10:47Speaker 2: his back pressure. So I love when when he's skating. Uh.
- 10:51Speaker 2: He's a really dynamic player for sure.
- 10:55Speaker 3: And have you noticed the kids refreshed after getting a
- 10:59Speaker 3: little break as we were pretty worn down by the
- 11:02Speaker 3: end of the Stony Old game.
- 11:03Speaker 2: As you said, yeah, I think so, I think uh,
- 11:08Speaker 2: I think you know, it was a good break for
- 11:10Speaker 2: all of us. Let's just say that.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, awesome, Well, thanks coach for jumping on. Good
- 11:20Speaker 1: luck this weekend.
- 11:21Speaker 2: All right, guys, appreciate it. Have a great week. Thanks Caps.
- 11:24Speaker 3: Saturday. Thanks
