Latest / Eye Opener Society / Uncovered: How Body Shame Hijacks Connection — A Candid Roundtable
Transcript
- 0:00Hello, everyone. Welcome back to EyeOpener Society. Thank you again for tuning
- 0:07in on this kind of off-beat kind of recording.
- 0:12This is the first time you're going to see me recording inside of my car.
- 0:16And the entire reason for this is I was setting everything up. There's a lot going on.
- 0:21And I was supposed to be doing this outdoors, kind of like our co-host Hannah is and all.
- 0:27But nothing worked out because I had no
- 0:30cell phone signal For where I was So
- 0:33I had to run back So I'm doing this from my car in my parking lot But that's
- 0:37okay The podcast is still going to be amazing I just want to give everybody
- 0:43a heads up That on Podbean Now you can see the video Just in case you're wondering
- 0:48what we're talking about If you actually want to see me sitting in my car hosting this.
- 0:53There's going to be two versions of the podcast There will be an audio only
- 0:59for those of you who are traveling in your car and whatnot.
- 1:01And then there will be the video version found on Podbean. You can still find
- 1:05the videos on Bitchute as well as YouTube.
- 1:10So I have two wonderful people here with me. I have Hannah Rose from The Sound
- 1:14Within and I have Lizzie with me, my normal co-host.
- 1:19And we got together because I wanted to do a podcast based on a topic that's
- 1:25been bugging me for some time.
- 1:27So I'm just going to lay it out for everybody.
- 1:30Lately, I've been on TikTok and I'm, you know, was comfortable with it for quite some time.
- 1:37I like to sit and watch some people, obviously, because I met two wonderful people.
- 1:41I met Lizzie and I met Hannah off of TikTok. And I've been amazed with everything that they've given me.
- 1:48So I'm, you know, looking at other people's topics and I'm looking at other
- 1:53people's TikTok lives and whatnot.
- 1:56And what bothered me is not too long ago
- 1:59i ran to this one girl who was doing
- 2:02um something on stretching exercises that
- 2:05i found pretty interesting i was like oh cool because my back always hurts and
- 2:08lizzie sent me a bunch of stuff that um i was working on and i said well let
- 2:13me see what this girl's got another girl she was just doing stretching exercises
- 2:19and She obviously had clothes on.
- 2:23It's just her belly was exposed. Nothing more than that.
- 2:27And the sexual comments that were coming across from her audience was almost
- 2:33mind-blowingly sickening,
- 2:36even from someone like me, born and raised in the Bronx, New York,
- 2:39who doesn't care, and I'm all down for locker room talk.
- 2:42But this was just not the place or time for it.
- 2:47Even though she handled it well, It's still the it ruined It took away the entire
- 2:54Energy of her Livestream And I felt bad for that.
- 3:01Now, I wanted to bring this up to my two co-hosts because it's the same thing.
- 3:06I'm going to one turn it over to Lizzie because TikTok thinks that Lizzie is
- 3:12promoting smut because they took one of her Facebook, you know,
- 3:17I'm sorry, not Facebook, but her TikTok recording and made it restricted to
- 3:2318 and over because she was jumping on a bed saying, let your inner child out.
- 3:28And again, she was fully closed.
- 3:31Um, so I don't know what to make of this, but one, let me start with Lizzie.
- 3:36Lizzie, what is your feeling on this?
- 3:39Because I know you had mentioned that you don't want to be viewed or sexualized.
- 3:47Well, okay. So I did what I always do in situations with life when things throw me a curve ball.
- 3:53Cause obviously I was just jumping on the bed. I
- 3:56was having a time with my life you can't see it on camera but my one-year-old
- 4:00was jumping on her bed right next to me and so we're just having this beautiful
- 4:04moment and I share it and then like it gets restricted and I'm like what and
- 4:08first my brain goes spiraling on all the ways I'm being perceived and all the
- 4:12ways that like I meant to be perceived and did I behave and then I'm like wait.
- 4:17Okay, let's slow down. So then
- 4:20I get back on the mindset that everything works out for a reason, right?
- 4:24And so then what would be this reason? Well, what it brought up for me was a
- 4:29lot of things about how I don't want to be perceived sexually.
- 4:32Because as a woman, once you're perceived that way, it's like you're put into a box.
- 4:37The information that you have, the vibe that you
- 4:40have anything you have to offer is now
- 4:43through this like specific lens which is really
- 4:46annoying you know and so anyway so
- 4:49this is something that I struggle with
- 4:52I don't like and I try to get away with away from but when you put yourself
- 4:58out there on camera in public the thing is is people are going to perceive you
- 5:04however they want to perceive you and you can't stop it that's why this lady
- 5:07handled it so well is because she's getting on there stretching.
- 5:12She's wearing what she wants. She's not done. This isn't the first time she's
- 5:16done it. She knows what reaction she's going to get.
- 5:18She's chosen to not worry about it because it's not her business how other people perceive her.
- 5:24And truthfully, the more I can comprehend that, the more freedom I have.
- 5:29You know, I would love to get on TikTok and do some of the stretches and stuff
- 5:33that I do as I'm realigning my spine. is making such cool energetic and physical
- 5:40connections and embodying.
- 5:41But it's like I hesitate on doing that because of how I will be perceived.
- 5:46It's slowing my art because of my concern of other people's perception of me.
- 5:51And that's maybe something I would really like to look at. And so that's what I did with it.
- 5:58Well, I appreciate that input and it means a lot.
- 6:02I'm going to definitely go down some roads with this But first I want to hear
- 6:06from Our lovely Hannah Rose Hannah Rose from The Sound Within I know you have
- 6:12a different perspective On this, what is your take on this?
- 6:17Yeah, and it's not that I have a different perspective.
- 6:20It's just more so I've never really thought so much into it,
- 6:26mostly because we have been programmed to believe these things that society
- 6:33has placed upon us, especially as women, that we are supposed to be perceived a different way.
- 6:42Always supposed to be put together and have on a pretty dress,
- 6:46but not too short, but not too long,
- 6:48and have our makeup done, and be sweet and feminine and not masculine in any way.
- 7:00And so that's probably why I've never really brought my attention to it,
- 7:04more so specifically, in this stage of my life, I should say.
- 7:09Because I have been sexualized a lot in my life, not in my childhood,
- 7:16which I know a lot of people have dealt with.
- 7:20I just felt like making that known more so in my young adult years.
- 7:28And I guess even being a teen, I was sexualized by grown men,
- 7:33which is just sickening to know that that's what people like are young women with young features.
- 7:43It just kind of makes me sick because I have two daughters myself,
- 7:48and I would hate for my kids to be perceived that way at any stage of their life.
- 7:56And for me I think that
- 7:58I get not so much of I
- 8:02haven't yet been restricted for sexual content
- 8:05or anything like that but I do know that the intentional breathing that I do
- 8:11on my streams are often saw that way so not necessarily me but what I'm practicing
- 8:19and people will say things like,
- 8:24oh, my wife thought I was watching this, or my friend heard this,
- 8:30or my roommates are going to think something crazy is going on in here.
- 8:34And it kind of just puts a bad taste in my mouth that somebody would try to
- 8:41make something so freeing and beautiful and something that we do innately to live.
- 8:48Every second of our existence, we're breathing.
- 8:52And then I'm sitting for a few moments to honor that and show someone else how
- 8:57to, and it's being perceived as something nasty and sexual.
- 9:04And it's just, like I said, a dishonor to the practice.
- 9:12And a lot of the time when I am dealt things like that.
- 9:21Inside, I really am frustrated and I want to just kind of scream and say,
- 9:27no, this is not what that is. Like, what's wrong with you?
- 9:30But on the outside, I'm just like keeping my composure and also telling myself
- 9:37that I need to have compassion for the person that is saying these kind of things.
- 9:43Because this is something that has obviously been programmed into them as well.
- 9:46And what are we trying to do by self-expressing
- 9:50in this way is inspire others to also you
- 9:53know break out of that mold and so for me a
- 9:57lot of the time when I'm dealt with things like that I kind
- 10:00of just show them compassion and
- 10:02laugh it off and say hey I'm glad that you're
- 10:05here this is not what that is but I'm still glad that
- 10:08you're here and I'm glad that I could share this with you nine times
- 10:11out of ten the trolls are like wow uh
- 10:15this person looks kind to me in the face of
- 10:18negativity and usually they'll
- 10:22come back into my lives later on and say wow this is so wholesome like thank
- 10:26you for holding this space for me and it and it might just plant the seed in
- 10:31their head like maybe i shouldn't hop into people's streams looking for a reaction
- 10:36because that's a lot of I'm what it is for is a reaction.
- 10:41I can't. I'm sorry. Go ahead, Lizzie. No, you go ahead. Go ahead.
- 10:46Are you sure? Okay. Yeah, because I actually, I have a lot of things spinning
- 10:50around in my head concerning this because I could take it from a male point of view.
- 10:55Like I said, I have no problem with lock and talk.
- 10:59Do it all the time. It's not anything I think that should be,
- 11:03you know, taken away from people because I don't believe in censorship.
- 11:07I believe we should all speak freely.
- 11:09However, again, I'm going to say there's a time and a place for this.
- 11:15To bring another example, I follow someone also on TikTok who actually works with sexual magic.
- 11:23And her, she's much more classier and it's something she actually,
- 11:29and it costs a whole lot, like $3,000 for her program.
- 11:32But the thing is, she's working with sex magic. she's a burlesque dancer as
- 11:37well she takes a lot of pride in what she does.
- 11:42Then if any guy wants to
- 11:45probably reach out and see all the other stuff believe me it's out there but
- 11:52to be so desperate to go into just random feeds and start with the sexual nonsense
- 12:02from a guy's point of view, I'll tell you one thing.
- 12:04The guys that talk like that a lot are the ones who aren't even dealing with
- 12:06any of that. Never gotten any before in their life.
- 12:09That's exactly what's going on with that. Take it from me.
- 12:13But it also shows a real desperation too as well on a male's point. You know.
- 12:21Not only sometimes so much the
- 12:23sexuality, but when they're reaching out constantly out of desperation.
- 12:29Oh my God, I wish I had a girl. I'm so lonely.
- 12:33Dude, time and a place for everything. And I don't want to sound cruel or anything
- 12:39like saying I don't care. But honestly, you need to help yourself.
- 12:44Nobody's going to help you with that. Nobody's going to say, oh, I feel so bad for you.
- 12:47I'm going to go out with you now. You know, so this is why I'm on such a kind
- 12:53of rampant, you know, discussion about this, because, like I said,
- 12:57it's taking away a lot of positive energy that goes around.
- 13:03And because whoever's watches for what, you know, whatever you are doing on
- 13:10your streams, it's being taken away because it's an interference.
- 13:14You know, it's an outside interference that you got to kind of deal with.
- 13:18And like you said, yes, some people are handling it really well, and that's great.
- 13:23But there's some people that are just looking at it like, dude,
- 13:26why do we have to be so desperate?
- 13:28Why do you got to put that in every single person's feed?
- 13:33Why do you have to, you know, express yourself that way?
- 13:38Now, I'm going to go, I'm going to present a couple things. Like,
- 13:40for one, I don't think sexuality, like, if you are looking at someone,
- 13:48And you're saying, well, they're a beautiful person.
- 13:50Well, I don't think that there's anything wrong with that.
- 13:54But to come out and express it in such a negative, vile way...
- 14:00That's what's kind of bothersome. You know what I mean?
- 14:04Yeah. So I would say it's about the tone. Yes. So here's the thing.
- 14:10Bodies are their artwork. Bodies are beautiful.
- 14:15And sex is a beautiful art form.
- 14:19As somebody who's also dabbled with sex magic before, it is such a powerful and beautiful thing.
- 14:26But the more powerful something is the
- 14:29more it can be used incorrectly right
- 14:32and with sex as an energy
- 14:35form sex is almost the same as like
- 14:39creative energy as well
- 14:41as healing energy when you get down to the core those three
- 14:44are almost the same and when people want to
- 14:47talk about all the systems you know the powers that be
- 14:50trying to oppress us what a better way to do
- 14:53it than to one take away that power and
- 14:56wrap it in a bunch of shame and desperation and
- 14:59all of that and to separate the two types of
- 15:03people who can come together and this isn't anything about gender
- 15:06like you can be whatever gender and harness whatever energy but you separate
- 15:10them from being able to come together in a wholesome and loving and just coherent
- 15:15way to express this and create all of this like beautiful energy and beautiful
- 15:20healing and in one little fell swoop you just wrapped it all in shame,
- 15:25separated it, quieted, made it a power struggle, and made every little tiny
- 15:30little bit about it weird.
- 15:31Now it's separated, and it's something that each person throughout their life
- 15:35has to slowly regain back that personal power that they have.
- 15:41That's my... Okay.
- 15:44I was just going to say that's just to kind of add to what you were saying,
- 15:48that that's a lot of the reason that the majority
- 15:52of people I'm not speaking for everybody but I
- 15:55know that a lot of people experience a blockage
- 15:58in their sacral energy center
- 16:01which is right below the belly button
- 16:04and above your no-no area
- 16:08and so a lot
- 16:11of people if they're like breathing into that area with
- 16:14especially like with the intentional breath that I practice um
- 16:18people are thinking that that feeling that they're getting in that area is is
- 16:23always a urge to exchange sex energy and that's not always what it is sometimes
- 16:30it's just a feeling of like you said healing and creativity and flow,
- 16:36which is what that energy center holds, power-wise.
- 16:41And so for people to create such a shameful, fearful image of tapping into that part of us—,
- 16:53It really is just kind of disturbing, especially because it's how we all came to be.
- 16:59It's how our children came to be. It's how we came to be.
- 17:05And it's not something gross. But like Gary said, there's a time and place for
- 17:11it all. And read the room.
- 17:14Some people don't want to exchange sexual energy with you.
- 17:19Yeah, some things are just thoughts, you know.
- 17:22Which is okay put them on people's
- 17:26you know what are we teaching children now don't comment
- 17:29on people's bodies right like it's just unless somebody
- 17:32says hi look how sexy i am like maybe
- 17:35you don't need to point out your thoughts about their body maybe
- 17:38they don't need to know about that you know what
- 17:41i mean and it can be from like a sexual harassment uh
- 17:44mindset but also even a lot of people have body image
- 17:47issues you know I had a baby last year
- 17:50I've lost 100 pounds in like a year because I just
- 17:53gained like this crazy amount of weight with her and everybody's
- 17:56complimenting on me on how good I
- 17:59look now and it's like well I thought
- 18:02I looked good then but yeah and
- 18:07so then now you have a distorted uh way
- 18:11that you look at yourself because somebody made that one comment
- 18:15like oh yeah you look so good
- 18:18uh now it's like now now I'm
- 18:22trying to put weight back on because my clothes don't fit and
- 18:24that's annoying and you know I just don't want to have to eat 70 times
- 18:27a day to be satisfied but now I'm putting on weight and my
- 18:31brain has a thought because of years of dieting about like oh but I don't look
- 18:35as good as I did before and then I'm like what did I just like that thought
- 18:40like did I not process this like years ago but it's like the little things that
- 18:45people comment sometimes maybe you just don't need to comment on people's bodies.
- 18:52Yeah and uh both of you have made some really good talking points like and,
- 18:58picked out a couple things like one this isn't just a male female thing this
- 19:02is could be females are doing the same thing to men as well yes and not as often
- 19:08but it it is done where men are sexualized.
- 19:13I, many years ago, I had a short-term relationship based where the girl was
- 19:18like worshiping the ground.
- 19:20I was like overly sexualizing me.
- 19:23It was repulsive. It really was.
- 19:27Then I'm just going to put this out there because it really fits into the whole subject.
- 19:33When we are making comments on people's bodies and whatever,
- 19:37like you said, It's shaming, it's body shaming and whatnot, or it's just making
- 19:42you uncomfortable, whatever. But I'm going to tell you something.
- 19:46I don't know how many years ago, but this is going back to a previous marriage.
- 19:50My previous wife and I went on vacation for one week. I wish I was on vacation
- 19:56right now. Instead, I'm in my pocket.
- 19:58But anyway, we went to a nudist resort.
- 20:02And we did it just because it was one of those things we just wanted to try.
- 20:08Once you get there, the perspective of it, especially when you're first walking
- 20:13in, And everybody, even the employees and all, are just nude.
- 20:19The very first thing you realize, there is nothing sexual about it.
- 20:28It is so natural. And the one thing, after one week of looking at people of
- 20:34every shape, size, raise, no matter what it is, you see every flaw,
- 20:40every scar, everything.
- 20:42There is no shame. There is no shame anywhere.
- 20:47Nobody can judge you when you're both looking at each other completely nude.
- 20:52You can't say, oh, your clothes aren't expensive enough. Oh,
- 20:55you're not wearing the right shoes or whatever.
- 20:57And you can't say anything about a person's body because now yours is exposed
- 21:01and my flaws were exposed as well.
- 21:05And I thought it was so liberating to be in a community like that To where zero
- 21:14shame in what is just so extremely normal and natural.
- 21:20And it was just, there was the entire time there, we seen absolutely nothing
- 21:25at all sexual. Not that we were going there looking for that,
- 21:28but it puts you in a whole nother mindset.
- 21:32And after that experience, that's when I said, you know, people's bodies are their bodies.
- 21:39We own this. We own this meat bag that we are in.
- 21:42It's our souls that are inside that means more than anything else.
- 21:47No matter what we look like physically.
- 21:51Should never be judged by anybody else. That's just my, you know, standpoint.
- 21:56And that's why it just irritates me somewhat when I'm watching,
- 22:00whether it be a TikTok live or just a person in the street where they're being
- 22:05overly sexualized just because,
- 22:08well, maybe this is a social norm, which it shouldn't be.
- 22:11Maybe we should be changing that social norm.
- 22:14But for so long, I think it's been ingrained in mostly males' heads because
- 22:20let's face it, females really haven't had much as far as their voting rights and everything else.
- 22:28It's only been a short time that women were allowed to work and everything else.
- 22:33So we're still progressing with this.
- 22:36But again, it's not so much just a male-female thing.
- 22:42It goes across all genders and all types of sexual relationships.
- 22:47Bi, gay, everything else.
- 22:49Where people are just overly sexualizing normal things,
- 22:55regular things, whether they're doing it just for shock value or they're doing
- 23:00it because they're completely lonely and they have no idea what anything's about.
- 23:05I don't, you know, it's almost getting to the point, I don't know how to express
- 23:10this enough other than to have this topic on this episode, hearing it from two
- 23:14separate points of views as well as mine.
- 23:17So I just want to leave it at that and please join in with anything else you might have to add to that.
- 23:26I was actually thinking earlier about the
- 23:29topic that we were going to be covering and I was thinking I mean if it was
- 23:33up to society's norm we would you know all every woman would be in a cloak but
- 23:42but men are allowed to walk around with their shirts off and their nipples out and that's fine.
- 23:48But if a woman were to do that, like, oh my, like, how, how could she like,
- 23:55like, what are people going to think?
- 23:58And, you know, things like that. So it's also the double standards that we have to look at as well.
- 24:07If a woman can't walk around with her shirt off, then maybe a man shouldn't either.
- 24:12But instead of thinking like that, maybe we should just all walk around with our shirts off.
- 24:18Did you know that in countries that have the most, like, standard covering,
- 24:25the more oppressed bodies are, the higher rates of assault are?
- 24:31Like, standard, like, one-to-one, like, you can go
- 24:34across google it do your own research the more
- 24:37oppressed a person's body the more you shame a
- 24:40person's body the more it is stigmatized the more it's focused and the more
- 24:44it creates this crazy thing and so the thing is is if if people feel this way
- 24:50if they really want to change it they have to be they don't have to be on tiktok
- 24:55like that lady doing the stretches like i'm gonna get that cool one day to be able to do it.
- 25:00But you have to kind of step outside your norm.
- 25:03Me a few years ago would not wear a crop top or a sports bra and jump on my bed on the video.
- 25:09That would be inherently way too sexual of an act, right?
- 25:13But that really, again, messes with your artwork. And I think that you should be able to just be.
- 25:21So in 2019, I was a little bit of a functional an alcoholic and something that
- 25:26I did was I just kind of quit wearing pants.
- 25:29And when you came over to my house, it was a standard joke that if you came
- 25:33over and Lizzie had been drinking, she probably wasn't wearing pants.
- 25:37But the thing is, is we were all adults and it created an environment where
- 25:42a lot of times other people took their jeans off because I was freaking uncomfortable
- 25:45and we're all just painting. It's nothing sexual. We're not doing anything weird.
- 25:49I just didn't want to wear my pants, you know, and I created that safe space
- 25:54because it was in my own home. So I could do that.
- 25:56And I'm not saying people have to have pantsless parties, but it invited a lot
- 26:03of my friends to view their own bodies, other people's bodies, sex as a whole.
- 26:09We cover our bodies until we get old enough to start having sex.
- 26:13So why would we view bodies as anything other than inherently sexual?
- 26:17We don't have statues of naked bodies anymore in town square that we're looking
- 26:22at. You know what I mean? It is just sex.
- 26:25That's what the body is limited down to.
- 26:27And I think that that takes away a lot of experience of life.
- 26:33I, yeah. And now Lizzie, I'm going to, I'm going to put this one on to you.
- 26:37Because it's directly relating to you and I think you would have much to say about this.
- 26:44Right now, 2025, the 21st fucking century, right?
- 26:51Why do we discourage shame females for breastfeeding in public?
- 27:00Because bodies are inherently sexual. men
- 27:05okay this is a standard stereotype i mean
- 27:08all people but we'll just use men because that's kind
- 27:10of what we're angling out by accident here anyway so i'll
- 27:13just lean into it a lot of people have mother
- 27:16wounds a lot of people were taken off of the breast too early they were put
- 27:22in the bed in the other room all of these things that accidentally create separate
- 27:27separation wounds right now you get older and what happens when you have a mother
- 27:32wound and you get married you place it on,
- 27:35your wife or every other woman out there.
- 27:39There's actually a thing that they're finding in psychology where when you get
- 27:42married or have a baby or whatever,
- 27:44and you start viewing your spouse and they become a different person,
- 27:48it actually causes a repulsive reaction in a lot of people who have mother wounds
- 27:54and they have to mentally process their mother wound in order to re-find their spouse attractive.
- 27:59And so there's all these things that are going on on this subconscious subconscious
- 28:04behind the scenes level in people's brains.
- 28:07But all they feel is they see a boob and they go, that's sexual and a baby,
- 28:13and that doesn't belong together.
- 28:15Oh my God, why are you presenting me with this horrible thing?
- 28:18When the lady's just trying to feed her baby, like you're the one making it weird.
- 28:23But when we have a culture where she's the
- 28:26weird one because bodies are sexual first everything
- 28:30else is second and she's the problem this
- 28:33stereotype perpetuates so I
- 28:36breastfeed and I've always breastfed in the open
- 28:39my family I just they all breastfed it was
- 28:42just kind of a thing they were a lot more covering with it
- 28:44but I was around because I was the girl and so
- 28:47I saw it so much so when I started breastfeeding I just did it
- 28:50openly and you know honestly i've never
- 28:53gotten a reaction on that one surprisingly the
- 28:56i see all the time on social media and stuff
- 28:59and maybe it's like where i live or maybe
- 29:02it's just my inherent reaction about it but like
- 29:05it's people just don't care as much as maybe in some other places well that's
- 29:11good actually that that's showing some signs of improvement because i said i
- 29:15can't believe that there's that is such an issue because we'll sit and look
- 29:19at any other mammal in a zoo And we'll watch them feeding their young and all.
- 29:24But when it comes to our own bodies, our own human cells, suddenly it's an issue.
- 29:29I just never understood that.
- 29:31But I appreciate your input on that. It really takes it from a whole other perspective.
- 29:37But I just want to, like I said, wanted to get this topic out there because
- 29:44it is something that is becoming, I think, a little bit more frustrating now
- 29:48from a human perspective.
- 29:50We can no longer Just
- 29:54be ourselves Without somebody else perceiving us
- 29:56In another way And I want to take this down another angle Because I spoke to
- 30:01Hannah about this earlier And I know there's something else When it comes to
- 30:04your feeds And what you're doing on your TikTok lives The thing that was bothering
- 30:10you most Is some of the comments that really were hurtful As far as Well I'll
- 30:15let you explain it Hannah,
- 30:17Okay Yeah there's been a couple See, and I feel very...
- 30:26I feel very good about the kind of audience that I have on my streams.
- 30:34I say it all the time because I don't get as many weird comments as I would
- 30:43have thought that I would be getting.
- 30:45Like when I started this, I thought that I would get a lot more of what we've been discussing today.
- 30:49But the amount of support and love that is spread in my streams,
- 30:59not just between me and the viewers,
- 31:03but between the viewers themselves, too, like creating a community within the
- 31:08stream and making connections, which is really why I do what I do.
- 31:16Is for the connection and building community.
- 31:20But every now and again, I'll get some comments.
- 31:24Somebody once told me that I was lazy because I said that I normally take my
- 31:30kids to school and then I come home and take a nap after.
- 31:33And they say that's what I call lazy. And it's just like,
- 31:37That's just another society ideal,
- 31:42that we're all supposed to be working nine to five jobs and not have time for
- 31:50pleasure and enjoyment.
- 31:53Well, also be a sex object for the men in your life, you know?
- 31:57Yeah, exactly. Yeah, that too, because that's like the expectation of a woman, typically.
- 32:04Uh so for me
- 32:09a lot of the time when people
- 32:14say things like that it just throws me back you know
- 32:17because I I see a lot more people today in today's age stepping out of that
- 32:24norm and like kind of breaking free from it and a lot of people are are starting
- 32:30their own businesses and just following their passion.
- 32:34Even if it doesn't pay all the bills, people are just taking that leap.
- 32:39And I think eventually, if we all take that leap together, we can just form
- 32:47a new type of society and community amongst all of us humans,
- 32:52not just one part of the world.
- 32:55But I also get comments sometimes, um.
- 33:00Like, asking if I showered because it's like people, you know,
- 33:06people think of a hippie and they normally think that, like,
- 33:09we don't shower and stuff like that.
- 33:11I only shave my armpits and my legs maybe, what, like once a month?
- 33:17And it's with an electric shaver.
- 33:20And I'm going to be honest, when I was a bit younger, I would shave every time
- 33:24I got in the shower to make sure that there was not even a hair on my body.
- 33:29Like because that's seen as gross and disgusting but it's not it's our bodies
- 33:35this is this is the true raw version
- 33:40of me i'm not gonna dishonor it by taking a hacksaw to it every day,
- 33:46and um i think sometimes people are just so caught up in what a woman is supposed
- 33:53to be like what a person is supposed to be like.
- 33:56And again, we're not meant to be born into this world.
- 34:06Just to feel shame and fear every
- 34:09day of our lives and conform to
- 34:13the robot herd that we've
- 34:17been made into i don't really even have the
- 34:20words to explain what i'm trying to to give
- 34:24off right now because it's just so unbelievable
- 34:29i guess how humans are
- 34:34viewed how we came to view each other
- 34:37animals don't wear clothes animals just run free and do their own thing they're
- 34:42not working nine to five jobs in an office with glasses on like if they're blind
- 34:48they're blind they're just running through the woods trying to catch their prey
- 34:51so i think we just need to take a little um.
- 34:56A little advice from the wild animals of the world. No, I totally agree.
- 35:02I actually have kind of a funny story for that. So as a massage therapist,
- 35:06I used to trade with other people at the job that I worked at.
- 35:09And one time I just was busy. I just hadn't shaved my legs or armpits.
- 35:13But we're massage therapists.
- 35:15We touch bodies all the time. It's not like a big deal, right?
- 35:18But like she shamed me about it behind my back in the break room to my co-workers.
- 35:25And I got so upset about that I
- 35:28had this like utter refusal of shaving
- 35:31my body for the next several months and I was gonna go back there and she was
- 35:34gonna have to rub my hairy legs oh my god I'm gonna have to braid them now I
- 35:40know no I calm down obviously because I'm not really a spiteful person it's
- 35:45just kind of my reaction sometimes but what happened was because I wasn't shaving.
- 35:50Now all the people in my family are like, are you okay?
- 35:54Like, well, I've never seen armpit hair on you. And it was like,
- 35:57and you know, I'd get comments from people.
- 35:59I won't say who said this, although I tease him about it, but he basically told
- 36:02me I'd never get a man like that.
- 36:04And he meant it so lovingly, like trying to help me here.
- 36:08You know, it's this poor single mom, right?
- 36:10And I was just like, well, maybe if my armpit hair stopped me from getting a
- 36:15man, maybe that's not the kind of man that I'd want to be with.
- 36:19Maybe that's why I have armpit hair. Maybe I want to scare the men away because we're terrified.
- 36:26That's what I'm saying. So there was this like look across this face and,
- 36:30and I was watching everybody happening to face this part of themselves.
- 36:33They never even considered as they're all also shaving every day.
- 36:37My hairy armpits, my hairy legs became like this rebellious act of feminism
- 36:42that I didn't mean it to be. But now I'm, I think, four years into it and I
- 36:47can't shave my armpits now. It's like I'm too far deep into it.
- 36:50This is actually not dishonoring our feminine features, but honoring them and
- 37:00not feeling shame around a normal thing, body.
- 37:05I guess rebelling against the wounded feminine.
- 37:09Yes. Because the divine feminine is her. You know what?
- 37:12She gets hair on her chin because of the hormone changes of the phase in her life she's in.
- 37:19You know what I mean? and we're all still plucking everything and
- 37:22trying to pretend we don't also grow five o'clock shadows
- 37:25sometimes you know yeah just like
- 37:28don't look at my stretch marks don't look at any of these things that
- 37:31naturally occur and you know as a massage therapist I do have a unique perspective
- 37:35because everybody wants to apologize about their bodies because of the weight
- 37:41they have the cellulite people will point out their flaws to me because they
- 37:46want it known that they're aware of this flaw they have.
- 37:49But it's like if 40% of the women in your age range who are on my table have this flaw, is it a flaw?
- 37:58Or is that just part of a human body? Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
- 38:03And you know, I'm going to throw this huge monkey wrench into this.
- 38:07I shave my fucking underarms. I shave my body hair.
- 38:13And all I'm going to do is I grow hair every fucking place except on my head.
- 38:18So I always thought, hey, maybe if I shave everywhere else, it'll start moving up to my head.
- 38:22But this is the thing. Who cares what anybody does? It's their personal choice on that.
- 38:29You feel comfortable with it. If it's something that makes you feel better,
- 38:34then I don't think there's any shame in that.
- 38:37The reason why I don't is because it's less work for me. I don't have to do that chore all the time.
- 38:45For you, Gary, you probably feel more comfortable, you know,
- 38:49not having that body hair, you know, where you shave it, your armpits and whatnot.
- 38:54And there's no shame in
- 38:57that because we're all like you said earlier we're a
- 39:00meat bag which I don't really like that term it's
- 39:03kind of sounds just like nasty to
- 39:06me but I would more so say vessel and
- 39:12so like if we can't feel safe
- 39:15in where our souls are resting our you
- 39:18know our vessel then why are
- 39:22you know why why are we here we we
- 39:25have to feel comfortable to an extent so that we
- 39:28can live a content and comfortable life but a
- 39:31lot of people aren't comfortable in their own bodies I a lot of the time am
- 39:35not comfortable in my own body and I think that's an issue that probably every
- 39:41person possibly has at times not everyone feels zen 24-7 even the,
- 39:49most wise spiritual teacher is going to still experience human emotions and feelings.
- 39:59Yeah. Go ahead, Lizzie.
- 40:02I was just going to say, and I think that that's a lot of it is we kind of energetically
- 40:06step out of our bodies with these emotions, the way we feel about our bodies,
- 40:10the way we feel about the sensations in our bodies. We kind of disassociate.
- 40:14Something that I do when I'm working with people energetically is I'll tell
- 40:19them to stand in the bathroom naked in front of the mirror and just look at
- 40:25themselves for 60 seconds, letting their thoughts think whatever they think.
- 40:29And you you would not believe
- 40:32most of the people I try to give this practice to will
- 40:36not do it and we have to go a roundabout way through journaling
- 40:39and it takes forever to process these things they feel about themselves because
- 40:43they can't simply just look at their body that is too much of an experience
- 40:49for them and I think that says a lot about how they feel about their vessel
- 40:54they're moving their soul around.
- 40:56And if you feel that way about your body, even when you cover it,
- 41:00how are you moving through life and interacting with these other people wrapped
- 41:04in all of that shame? It really, really affects people a lot more than they
- 41:08realize. They just, I want to lose weight.
- 41:11And that's all that they can focus on when it's all this shame and stuff underneath it.
- 41:16I've gained and lost so much weight
- 41:18in my life and it's never actually affected how I felt about my body.
- 41:23Even when I've lost weight, any shame I had, it was still there.
- 41:27It was a completely separate processing of it to get rid of that.
- 41:31And I just, I wish people could kind of just love themselves more.
- 41:37That's beautiful. And not only that, but with the thought,
- 41:42you know, what you're talking about is just looking in the mirror and, and
- 41:45thinking any thought that comes up and just
- 41:48allowing it to happen instead of just
- 41:51a lot of people include me myself
- 41:54included if something comes up that I'll try
- 41:57to swallow it but then you're hanging on to that and carrying it with you everywhere
- 42:02you go every time you look in the mirror now you're gonna think that but if
- 42:06you just really look at yourself and face yourself and allow and know that your
- 42:11logical mind is there to create thoughts and scenarios and all of these different.
- 42:18Options, you know, that could happen. So not every thought that you think is
- 42:23what you really feel about yourself. It's just a thought.
- 42:26So if you take away that power that it has over you by speaking it and saying
- 42:33it and just releasing that, I think a lot of people can feel some relief from that.
- 42:39Yeah. The thing is, is before you can love something, you have to accept something.
- 42:44I tried the body positivity.
- 42:46When I first was presented this exercise, what I was told was to stand in front
- 42:51of the mirror and look for three things you love about yourself.
- 42:54Well, guess what? I couldn't think of one goddamn thing. How was that supposed
- 42:57to be a helpful experience for me?
- 43:00But years later, something I came across was like, okay, you can't love your
- 43:05body, but can you accept it?
- 43:07And I was like, you know what? I can't accept my wrinkly belly.
- 43:11I can't accept my frizzy hair.
- 43:13I can't accept my weird lazy eye that happens when
- 43:16I chew things you know what I mean I can just accept these
- 43:19things about myself and then this like crazy thing happened where when I accepted
- 43:24it and I started moving my body because I was no longer fighting on what it
- 43:28looked like when it jiggled I actually did accidentally start to love my body
- 43:34and my wrinkly belly like I love my wrinkly belly.
- 43:38What a cool design that I get to wear out in the world.
- 43:42Like your belly is so boring. Like does it even wrinkle?
- 43:46Those women that actually get like glitter on their stretch marks so it looks like a tiger.
- 43:51I would do that. And fake it till you make it.
- 43:56You know, just like keep telling yourself that you love yourself. You're powerful.
- 44:01You're beautiful in your body. Yes.
- 44:04And if that is painful, just accept where you're at.
- 44:08I don't like what I look like. Just saying that to yourself for a minute makes it so that when you say,
- 44:15I actually do like the way that this looks about me.
- 44:19It doesn't feel like it's like disrupting your entire system.
- 44:23It can just kind of like bridge you into something, you know?
- 44:30Ladies, this has been an incredible conversation. Honestly, it really has.
- 44:35And the only reason I'm cutting it down is because I don't know if it's my internet,
