The first time you've heard theology is play or you've heard us kind of bounce that idea around to you, how would you explain what does that idea mean?

Theology is play.

Honestly, it kind of makes me think back to theology.

Two years ago, there was a panel about D and D and is it okay for Christians and churches to play D and D?

And they were making an argument for role playing games like D and D.

Of course, you have to get past the stigma that it's this demonic thing that you can't get into, that it's going to open this realm to the underworld sort of thing.

But what it really does is that it opens the door for kind of learning real life circumstances and skills and whatnot and working through scenarios in a fantasy setting or like a roleplay setting around family, friends, whatever.

You may be mentors.

And you can learn these kind of skills and tools and whatnot, get this toolbox for life.

So when you get out of offering around the table, you can get in life and kind of use these skills and whatnot to practice social skills and even just skills of critical thinking and all these type of things.

So when you say theology at play, that's kind of what I think.

And I think you can bring a lot of this kind of theology and what you learn from biblical religious texts or anything like this, or just religious communities.

And you can channel that into play, into role playing and games like what we're doing today.

So that's kind of what I think of.

I always bring up CS Lewis, just my favorite thing to do in general.

But to me, what really stands out is CS Lewis has a Few different things.

One time when he's talking about how the church deals with sex, of all things, he talks about how we treat it with the wrong kind of seriousness.

And I like that term because I feel like it's true with a lot of things.

I think a lot of times with theology, we treat it with the wrong kind of seriousness.

Yeah, it's serious, but it should be something we're deriving joy out of studying God, thinking about the things of God, not stuff that's making us constantly fight and want to hurt each other.

And I think stuff like play allows us to still think about this theological ideas, but in a different setting, so that we're not taking it with the wrong kind of seriousness.

So I think it helps us in that way.

He also talks about how usually we already have our minds made up of what we want to believe and straightforward arguments a lot of times don't do anything.

But story can kind of sneak through our guard and let us see something different.

So I think doing this as play also helps us experience our ideas through story.

So I'm bringing my ideas, theological concepts, ethical, whatever.

You know, I'm always going to squeeze in, like, I don't like utilitarianism, but then you guys are bringing your own ideas in, and we're going to play through it in story.

This campaign that we have coming up, I expect that we're going to be addressing ideas of, like, the importance and sanctity of life, the dangers of utilitarianism, selfishness, and communal living, different themes like this.

Today's campaign will be titled Life Forgery.

But before we jump into the story, I do want to talk some about the characters you guys chose and why you chose who you chose.

So help us walk through this.

First up, for your religious character, your woman.

From any religious text, you guys chose Deborah from the Book of Judges.

Tj, you want to tell us a little bit about why Deborah?

Well, for most of these characters, Mark came up with some choices, and then I kind of picked and chose which ones we were going to go With.

And Deborah was one of those.

And Deborah honestly brings a lot to a team like this.

You know, one of the.

The only female judge of Israel, military leader, one of the strongest women in the Bible.

Princess Shuri, of course, the princess of Wakanda and the world over there.

So what she can bring is she can bring all the technology with her.

She's very good on her feet so that she can create technology on the go with whatever tools she has around her, whatever stuff is laying around.

She's very overconfident, so she's one to kind of jump into things and just figure it out as she goes.

She's able to kind of go with the flow, and I think she'll be a pretty good asset that way.

If I ever join, like, a D and D campaign, I really want to have wild magic so I can just break everything.

And so Appa, I think, is perfect for this.

And it's one of those, like, who doesn't love Appa?

If you watch or watch any of the Avatar shows or anything like that, Appa is just.

Everyone loves Appa, and every character loves Appa.

The only downside is that Appa doesn't really have good communication, so he grunts whatnot.

You can tell by his facial expressions or movements.

So there'll be a kind of a language barrier between that.

But I think a fun thing that will happen is that all the characters are going to superimpose themselves onto Appa and kind of use him as a way to express their own opinions through him, because he can't really

Plus, he's a tank.

He can just rush in and power through something.

But I think that's kind of the dynamic I probably would envision what would happen on this island first thing.
