Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Emily A body here coming to you live
- 0:24Speaker 1: from the Age Studio. You are listening to another installment
- 0:29Speaker 1: of five Minute Friday from Hurdle. Oh Man, what a week.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I feel like we are in the sprint of the
- 0:36Speaker 1: finish in which I need to try to catch everyone.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I literally have seven days to do it and book
- 0:42Speaker 1: all of these things and find these guests and make
- 0:45Speaker 1: this content. And it can be a lot, but we
- 0:48Speaker 1: can do hard things. So that's the mentality I have
- 0:52Speaker 1: every single day when I sit down to my desk.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I am recording this just before I'm gonna go to
- 1:00Speaker 1: the sauna near my apartment, which I'm really excited about,
- 1:03Speaker 1: and then pack my bags because I am going to
- 1:05Speaker 1: be spending the weekend in Cabo San Lucas, which I'm
- 1:08Speaker 1: really really excited about. I'm going for a wellness retreat.
- 1:12Speaker 1: It is going to be much warmer than where I
- 1:16Speaker 1: am right now, and I can't wait to move and
- 1:19Speaker 1: hike and just be in a nice little place of paradise. Anyway,
- 1:24Speaker 1: what I wanted to talk to you about today is
- 1:28Speaker 1: that it is never too late to choose a different path,
- 1:34Speaker 1: think something different, go down to different routes. You get
- 1:38Speaker 1: where I'm going with this. This was kind of top
- 1:41Speaker 1: of mind for me for a few different reasons this week.
- 1:45Speaker 1: First of all, not to spoil anything, but Monday's episode
- 1:49Speaker 1: of the show is with Courtney Dwalter. She's arguably the
- 1:52Speaker 1: best female ultra runner of all time, and she didn't
- 1:57Speaker 1: turn professional until she was thirty two after starting a
- 2:01Speaker 1: successful career as a teacher. Now, as we talk about
- 2:05Speaker 1: in the episode on Monday, she feels so grateful that
- 2:08Speaker 1: she made this decision and that she's living her life
- 2:11Speaker 1: following her passions. And it was just really beautiful because
- 2:14Speaker 1: I think so often we continue on with a thing
- 2:18Speaker 1: because we feel as though it's what we're supposed to do, right.
- 2:21Speaker 1: But what happens if you have this other urge, or
- 2:26Speaker 1: you hear that voice inside your head saying maybe it
- 2:30Speaker 1: shouldn't be this way, or you start to feel unhappy.
- 2:33Speaker 1: You got to listen to that. You gotta do something
- 2:37Speaker 1: about that, because life is just way too short to
- 2:42Speaker 1: linger in the malaise of just living away because you
- 2:46Speaker 1: feel as though you're supposed to. I'll give an entirely
- 2:50Speaker 1: different example. I had to go to a work thing
- 2:53Speaker 1: earlier this week, and it was like a large event.
- 2:57Speaker 1: There were many people there, there were like past drinks
- 3:00Speaker 1: and appetizers and different booths, and to be honest with you,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I walked in there and my heart just like wasn't
- 3:07Speaker 1: in emily networking mode, and I like lingered for a
- 3:12Speaker 1: while and I tried to get into the mix, but
- 3:14Speaker 1: ultimately it just wasn't where I wanted to be. I had, however,
- 3:20Speaker 1: like gotten dressed and like put all of this effort
- 3:23Speaker 1: into traveling to where the event was, and so I
- 3:27Speaker 1: just made the decision that I was going to go
- 3:29Speaker 1: do something that I wanted to do. And so what
- 3:31Speaker 1: I wanted to do in that moment was go to
- 3:36Speaker 1: a cute little wine spot that I had been wanting
- 3:39Speaker 1: to try for a long time. And I actually had
- 3:42Speaker 1: a whiskey cocktail and a dessert, and the nice gentleman
- 3:48Speaker 1: behind the bar gave me complimentary ice cream with my dessert,
- 3:52Speaker 1: which was banana, oh sticky banana bread pudding. Now I
- 3:56Speaker 1: totally understand that this is a completely different example than
- 3:58Speaker 1: the Courtney de Walter example, But what I'm saying is that,
- 4:00Speaker 1: like my takeaway this week is life's too short just
- 4:03Speaker 1: to like linger in the stuff that you don't want. Right,
- 4:06Speaker 1: we all have the opportunity every single day to choose
- 4:09Speaker 1: what happens next, and although sometimes making that choice it
- 4:13Speaker 1: might happen faster than others. Right. I'm sure there was
- 4:15Speaker 1: a period of time that Courtney decided to stay a
- 4:20Speaker 1: teacher while she dabbled an ultra running and then finally
- 4:23Speaker 1: made the decision, after acquiring numerous sponsors, to take this
- 4:26Speaker 1: on as her profession. Just like me a little bit different,
- 4:29Speaker 1: I made the decision in that moment, in that event,
- 4:32Speaker 1: that I had the opportunity to turn my night around.
- 4:34Speaker 1: So maybe it's a night, Maybe it's your career, Maybe
- 4:38Speaker 1: it's in a relationship that's not going as you'd hoped,
- 4:41Speaker 1: and you feel stuck. Like the moral of the story
- 4:44Speaker 1: here in this Rambley, what is happening in this five
- 4:47Speaker 1: minute Friday, five minute Friday is that you choose what
- 4:50Speaker 1: happens next, and the only person who truly needs to
- 4:55Speaker 1: feel comfortable and good with your decisions you. Of course,
- 5:01Speaker 1: you can factor other people into the mix, but it
- 5:04Speaker 1: starts with you.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Know that.
- 5:06Speaker 1: My question for you this week, my thought prompt, if
- 5:10Speaker 1: you will, where do you feel a little bit stuck
- 5:13Speaker 1: right now? And what can you do to change things
- 5:17Speaker 1: up and move forward. Where do you feel a little
- 5:19Speaker 1: bit stuck right now? And what can you do to
- 5:21Speaker 1: change things up and move forward? And now a listener question.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Hi Emily, my name is v and I met you
- 5:29Speaker 2: multiple times at the Chicago Evans. I'm really happy and
- 5:33Speaker 2: grateful to be a part of the Hurdle community and
- 5:36Speaker 2: I absolutely love the content that you're providing and it
- 5:40Speaker 2: definitely adds value to my life. So thank you so
- 5:43Speaker 2: much for that. My today's question is kind of untypical
- 5:47Speaker 2: for the Hurdle podcast, and it's about relationships. How to
- 5:52Speaker 2: get over someone you've only met or went on a
- 5:56Speaker 2: few dates, or only met once, but you, like you
- 6:00Speaker 2: had a very genuine and honest conversation and started to
- 6:06Speaker 2: fall in hard. So what is your advice on that?
- 6:10Speaker 2: Thank you so much and love you, Hey, Vy.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So good to hear from you, and you, guys know
- 6:17Speaker 1: I love unconventional Emily questions. Regardless of your question, please
- 6:21Speaker 1: call only be a voice message. It would mean the
- 6:23Speaker 1: world to me. The link to do that is in
- 6:25Speaker 1: the show notes here. Man, let me tell you I've
- 6:29Speaker 1: been in this position and sometimes it feels easier than
- 6:32Speaker 1: others to move on. What I will say is, now
- 6:36Speaker 1: that this has certainly happened to me a few times,
- 6:39Speaker 1: I feel like it's gotten a little bit easier to
- 6:40Speaker 1: deal with because I'm better at putting it in perspective.
- 6:45Speaker 1: That's not to say that you can't develop like legitimate
- 6:49Speaker 1: feelings for someone that you haven't known for a long time,
- 6:53Speaker 1: but oftentimes, like there's only so much you can get
- 6:57Speaker 1: to know about someone within a short amount of time.
- 7:00Speaker 1: And I find that more often than not, in these
- 7:03Speaker 1: situations where I feel like I am like heartbroken and sad,
- 7:08Speaker 1: often I'm putting these people like I'm thinking about what
- 7:11Speaker 1: life could be with someone period, not specifically them. So
- 7:17Speaker 1: I meet someone and it feels like we're compatible and
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's exciting, but ultimately if like they just say they
- 7:23Speaker 1: don't want to keep getting together, or are they ghost
- 7:26Speaker 1: or they like, there's so many scenarios as to why
- 7:28Speaker 1: it could not work out. I find that that sadness
- 7:33Speaker 1: that comes from that is really rooted in thinking about
- 7:35Speaker 1: what could be and not actually what was. And usually
- 7:38Speaker 1: when I take a step back and I think about
- 7:40Speaker 1: who it is that they really are at their core,
- 7:42Speaker 1: the things that they're about, it's pretty rare that you
- 7:45Speaker 1: will be so aligned one hundred percent with the kind
- 7:48Speaker 1: of person that would be like, yeah, you know, this
- 7:51Speaker 1: isn't my vibe right off the bat. So ask yourself
- 7:55Speaker 1: those questions, right like, is it the person that I'm
- 7:58Speaker 1: truly truly bummed about? Or is it just like, Oh,
- 8:01Speaker 1: there was this thing and it gave me butterflies and
- 8:03Speaker 1: it was exciting and it was nice to have a thing.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Is that what you're bummed about? Also, it helps to
- 8:09Speaker 1: remember that you had a whole life before they came
- 8:12Speaker 1: into your life, and you will have a whole life
- 8:15Speaker 1: now that they've left your life. And you were fine
- 8:17Speaker 1: before and you're going to be just fine now. And
- 8:20Speaker 1: I'll just reiterate this one more time. It's cool to
- 8:23Speaker 1: feel bombed, it's cool to feel sad. You feel however
- 8:27Speaker 1: you want to feel, process however you want to process.
- 8:30Speaker 1: But then I encourage you, you know, I talk about
- 8:32Speaker 1: this all the time. Look at that joy list and
- 8:35Speaker 1: find something that makes you smile that you can go
- 8:37Speaker 1: do and get back out there because you're great with
- 8:41Speaker 1: or without them, all right, you know the drill at
- 8:44Speaker 1: Emily a Body at Hurdle Podcast. Thanks so much, everyone,
- 8:48Speaker 1: have an excellent weekend.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I'll catch you on Monday.
