- 0:09Speaker 1: All right, here we go. Spicks and Specs new season
- 0:12Speaker 1: is kicking off tonight on ABC TV. A huge list
- 0:16Speaker 1: of Ossie icons, Amy Shark Rule, Casey Donovan, Darmiim Tommy,
- 0:21Speaker 1: Little Missy Higgins, Kelly Holiday, and the host, of course,
- 0:25Speaker 1: is Adam Hills. Good morning, mate, morning. Oh he's there now.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Look this time yesterday mate, we had some awkwardness. I
- 0:34Speaker 1: want you to listen to the chaos. You've done a
- 0:37Speaker 1: lot of live broadcasting yourself. You know what it's like
- 0:40Speaker 1: when you're trying to get the guest on air and
- 0:42Speaker 1: the guest just is not picking up their phone. Here's
- 0:45Speaker 1: what you did to us yesterday, mate, have a listen.
- 0:49Speaker 1: We're just waiting for Adam Hills, by the way from
- 0:52Speaker 1: Spicks and Specs to join us.
- 0:54Speaker 2: A few minutes later.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So Spain beat Portugal.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Portugal obviously has Cristiano Ronaldo, and he was saying lying
- 1:00Speaker 4: after the match too on the Ronaldo thing, if we
- 1:02Speaker 4: are still padding, I used to work with someone who
- 1:04Speaker 4: used to date him.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh she was really hot. Yeah yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Anyway, how are we at with the guest thing?
- 1:11Speaker 2: I am just listening to like a real center link
- 1:13Speaker 2: hold music situation. I'm very stressed.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Back end, so it's not happening.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It should be happening, but it's meant to be happening.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Now you need to longer than a few minutes later.
- 1:23Speaker 5: I know something about a very popular soccer player. So
- 1:26Speaker 5: he'd had like a one night stand with a sexy
- 1:29Speaker 5: little thing and then he would wake up, put their
- 1:32Speaker 5: clothes in the bath, so it wear all their clothes,
- 1:35Speaker 5: so they were forced to stay into the hotel room
- 1:38Speaker 5: and wait for them to dry so he could make
- 1:40Speaker 5: his exit without getting papped with them.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Much much lateral.
- 1:43Speaker 1: What do we know about this Adam Mills character.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I still haven't got him on the line, unfortunately. And
- 1:49Speaker 2: let me tell you there is nothing worse than this
- 1:51Speaker 2: current experience. Much much much ladawl.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Just to clarify, John Watkinson and Ronaldo dated in two
- 1:57Speaker 3: thousand and seven and they used to drink tea and
- 1:58Speaker 3: watch episodes of Only Full and Horses together.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Oh is he?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Is he here? Now?
- 2:02Speaker 4: No?
- 2:03Speaker 2: He's still not here. Sorry, let's go to ads. Let's
- 2:06Speaker 2: sort this out in a second.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah, explain yourself, Adam Hills, what was happening this time yesterday?
- 2:14Speaker 4: Okay? So it all studded with me. I was filming
- 2:17Speaker 4: a British TV show in the countryside and it's top
- 2:22Speaker 4: secret and I can't tell you what the TV show
- 2:24Speaker 4: is or where I was. Okay, it starts with that.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Secondly, we were so far in the countryside that the
- 2:31Speaker 4: internet in the hotel was so dodgy that I was
- 2:34Speaker 4: meant to be doing an interview via Zoom call and
- 2:37Speaker 4: couldn't get any Zoom coverage, and then tried to do
- 2:41Speaker 4: it via phone, and then there was I was so
- 2:43Speaker 4: far in the countryside there was no phone reception, and
- 2:47Speaker 4: then I just couldn't dial into the conference call I
- 2:50Speaker 4: was meant to dial in. So yeah, I'm now back
- 2:53Speaker 4: in London tonight. So I apologized profusely and later in
- 2:57Speaker 4: the year you'll find out what I was doing.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Oh okay, good hawk, good teas. And look, you could
- 3:01Speaker 1: have just blamed Telstra. I mean, we've heard Telstra is
- 3:04Speaker 1: out today. I could just blame Telstra. Adam, Hey mate,
- 3:08Speaker 1: this has been on air twenty years, which is amazing
- 3:12Speaker 1: really and everyone enjoys this show. Have you got a
- 3:15Speaker 1: favorite decade of music that you enjoy? Oh?
- 3:20Speaker 4: Wow? Well, look, I mean I'm an I was born
- 3:24Speaker 4: in nineteen seventy, So the eighties was really the era
- 3:27Speaker 4: in which I discovered music. You know, Adam and the
- 3:31Speaker 4: Answer is one of my favorite bands, mainly because there
- 3:33Speaker 4: was a guy called Adam who dressed like a pirate
- 3:35Speaker 4: and I've got one leg and it all came together.
- 3:39Speaker 4: I love that.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And May you're a big rabbit O supporter of the
- 3:42Speaker 1: South Sydney Rabbitos for our Melbourne listeners. You helped set
- 3:46Speaker 1: up a team in their physical disability rugby league as well.
- 3:51Speaker 1: You've been following along with the JR. Roh story. I'm
- 3:54Speaker 1: guessing we heard today that he got married. But it's
- 3:57Speaker 1: such a sad story for a former rabbit O's player, isn't.
- 4:00Speaker 4: It It is? And it's such an incredible story, and
- 4:05Speaker 4: it's such an incredible experience to watch the whole rugby
- 4:08Speaker 4: league world come together. I'm the president of the rfl
- 4:12Speaker 4: over here in the UK at the moment, and recently
- 4:14Speaker 4: we had a guy Rob Burrow who had mode in
- 4:18Speaker 4: your own disease and again it just it shows why
- 4:21Speaker 4: rugby league is a great sport because everyone gets behind
- 4:24Speaker 4: everybody else and it doesn't matter what team you're on.
- 4:28Speaker 4: One something like this happens rivalries are put aside and
- 4:31Speaker 4: it's just one big community.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it is, and there's a lot of people feeling
- 4:35Speaker 1: for him and of course celebrating that they got married.
- 4:39Speaker 5: Mate.
- 4:39Speaker 1: All right, you want to see Albo got in hot water.
- 4:42Speaker 1: He was talking about Kylie Minogue with his shag married
- 4:45Speaker 1: kill game. You're not playing games like that on Spicks
- 4:48Speaker 1: and specs. But what did you think of the controversy?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Do you think you could have answered it in a
- 4:53Speaker 1: different way?
- 4:56Speaker 3: I think, Look, I think I think it's one of
- 4:58Speaker 3: those questions that if you're asking the question of the
- 5:00Speaker 3: prime minister, it puts him in an incredibly tricky position.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I was asked something like that recently, and what It's
- 5:07Speaker 3: really hard because you.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Don't want to be to kill joy and go, look,
- 5:10Speaker 4: I don't think that question's appropriate. Yeah, but but you
- 5:14Speaker 4: do you know, you don't want to be a wet blanket.
- 5:16Speaker 4: But by the same taking, you're the prime minister and
- 5:18Speaker 4: someone's thrown something like that at you. I think I
- 5:21Speaker 4: think probably the best thing for him to have said
- 5:23Speaker 4: maybe would have been look, I don't think that's an
- 5:26Speaker 4: appropriate question to be asking the leader of any country.
- 5:29Speaker 4: But I really feel for him because you don't want
- 5:33Speaker 4: to ruin someone else's interview. But I don't know what
- 5:37Speaker 4: he could have said. You know how you could possibly
- 5:40Speaker 4: have answered that, Yeah, I.
- 5:41Speaker 1: See your pope. Well, let's do it to you, But no,
- 5:43Speaker 1: we'll do it on men, right, let's do it on
- 5:45Speaker 1: guests that you're having on You got Frank Woodley, Tommy Little,
- 5:50Speaker 1: Kelly Holliday, shag Marry kill.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Do you know what now that I'm put in a position,
- 5:58Speaker 4: I completely see Albow's point, and it would be shagg
- 6:01Speaker 4: Mary kill. Are we saying, yeah?
- 6:03Speaker 1: No, you know what, we'll keep it on the podcast
- 6:06Speaker 1: Shag Mary date, Yeah, shag married. We know there's another
- 6:09Speaker 1: version of that game. I'm sure you know, Adam Hills.
- 6:11Speaker 1: But let's go Frank Woodley.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Shagg Mary Date. I'm going to imitate Elbow, and I'm
- 6:17Speaker 4: going to say Kelly all three.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Ah, he's a good looking man, isn't he.
- 6:22Speaker 4: He's a good looking man. But he's a really nice bloke.
- 6:26Speaker 4: And his name's Adam, so I wouldn't have to.
- 6:31Speaker 1: That's true. I could just remember his name. The guy
- 6:33Speaker 1: that you're dating and shagging mate twenty years as spits
- 6:37Speaker 1: and specs before we let you go why has it
- 6:40Speaker 1: been such a big hit? Is it the music? Is
- 6:42Speaker 1: it the guess what's so good about it?
- 6:47Speaker 4: I think it's a whole bunch of things. But I
- 6:49Speaker 4: think people love music the same way, and it doesn't
- 6:53Speaker 4: have to be the same music. You love your favorite
- 6:55Speaker 4: band in the way I love my favorite band, in
- 6:57Speaker 4: the way someone else loves their favorite band, and as
- 7:00Speaker 4: long as we kind of. I was taught very early
- 7:02Speaker 4: doors to explain to the viewers who each of the
- 7:06Speaker 4: bands were that were being talked about. In fact, someone
- 7:08Speaker 4: told me the best advice I got was from a
- 7:11Speaker 4: guy called Peter Fayman, who says, imagine Spicks and Specs
- 7:14Speaker 4: as a dinner party, and the camera is the last
- 7:16Speaker 4: guest to arrive at that party, and your job is
- 7:19Speaker 4: to introduce them to every other guest, make them feel comfortable,
- 7:23Speaker 4: and if a conversation happens that you think they might
- 7:25Speaker 4: not be across, just make sure they know who you're
- 7:28Speaker 4: talking about. So I think the reason it's been that
- 7:31Speaker 4: successful is because I got that advice, and we just
- 7:33Speaker 4: treat it like a big dinner party.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I bet you didn't expect it to go on for
- 7:36Speaker 1: twenty years, though.
- 7:40Speaker 4: No, especially when we finished it after seven.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yes, that brought it back well. If you want to
- 7:45Speaker 1: see it tonight, News, season, spits and specs. It is
- 7:48Speaker 1: premiering tonight at eight thirty on ABCTV I View. What
- 7:54Speaker 1: else is on at eight thirty tonight? Adam Hills, is
- 7:56Speaker 1: there anything you're competing with? Their mate?
- 8:00Speaker 4: Absolutely nothing at all.
- 8:03Speaker 1: What a night to kick it off? You go, and
- 8:06Speaker 1: I'm guessing you're going with the Blues right being a
- 8:08Speaker 1: New South Wales plot. Oh?
- 8:11Speaker 4: Absolutely, And I'm assuming Sticks Inspects are going to get
- 8:14Speaker 4: good ratings in South Australia.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Good on you mate, those Adam Hills you can check
- 8:19Speaker 1: about tonight if you're not watching
