- 0:02Listen. Listen. First of all, I don't even know how much time
- 0:06we have with you, so it's fine. Uh let me tell you as
- 0:12special as that moment like, we have been nominated and lost the last uh
- 0:19two Cmas and the last two ACM shows in the radio categories, So to
- 0:23win and to have somebody who we think extremely highly would be the person to
- 0:27call and tell us made that even more special than I already was. So
- 0:31thank you for sharing that moment with us. I'm so glad that I was
- 0:35the one that was able to call. Oh my gosh, we cry emotional.
- 0:41Yeah, we cried so hard. Hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna text
- 0:45you the video because as soon as we got off you, I'm talking like
- 0:51I love it ugly crime. Listen. First of all, we haven't caught
- 0:57up in a while. How does Lady Will go from we talked a whole
- 1:02ten Yere town. How does Landy Wilson in a handful of years go from
- 1:04I think I've heard of her before too. You can't go through a TV
- 1:10station or through a radio station and not know who you are. Now,
- 1:14that is crazy, it does. It seems like kind of overnight and I
- 1:18think for some folks, they probably do think it is overnight. But August
- 1:22of this year was mark twelve years for me of being in this town.
- 1:23And the truth is that the work didn't start for me when I moved here.
- 1:29It started at nine years old and I'm thirty one. How are you
- 1:34feeling about success? Like have you gotten used to it yet? Or no?
- 1:38Oh, I'm getting used to it. I could get really used to
- 1:41success. It's a lot better than the other. No, it does feel
- 1:46good, and I will say as much as of a whirlwind as it's been,
- 1:51because it has been a crazy, crazy two years. I do feel
- 1:55like I'm right where I'm supposed to be, and I feel like there's more
- 1:59with that from kind of thing. I'm like, I'm ready. I'm tired,
- 2:02but I'm ready. How do you keep yourself a priority? Because I
- 2:07know you've talked about, you know, staying healthy recently and taking care of
- 2:12yourself. How do you find time to perfect example, already share details today
- 2:16like Hey, I just got to step away for a little bit. How
- 2:20how do you keep yourself a priority? You have to carve out the time
- 2:25period it has to be on your calendar. You can't just be like like
- 2:30I've got a day off, you know, here or whatever. Like,
- 2:32you have to be very aware of it, very conscious of it. Any
- 2:38opportunity I have to call my family, call my sister, call my nephews,
- 2:46have them facetiming and humble me real quick, you know, like anything
- 2:50I can do like that that makes me feel like me without the world watching,
- 2:55you know. I mean, even if that means going for a ride
- 2:59on on my land that I just got here in Nashville and going out in
- 3:06the woods and getting eat up by chiggers, like you, just find the
- 3:08time and do it. Listen. I took my son four wheeling over the
- 3:13weekend and I'm still scratching my legs. So I feel you on that.
- 3:15Dude. If you see me down here scratching my knees, you know what's
- 3:19going on? Well, you see you just you just purchased some land.
- 3:23What's that lake? Are we talking a farm of rants or just you know
- 3:28you're gonna figure it out later. It does have a pasture. I don't
- 3:30have any horses on it yet. Yeah, I got me some some acres
- 3:36and I'm loving it. I Mean, I'm not there a whole lot,
- 3:38but it is. It is cool. Knowing that it's still here even if
- 3:40I'm not. You know, listen, if this radio thing goes belly up,
- 3:46I'm just gonna I can like mow the lawn or something like that.
- 3:47You just holler at me, all right, come on, we're gonna get
- 3:50you training the horses. You don't want that either. A guy that's as
- 3:53big as a horse wouldn't be riding one. I'm just saying, whatever,
- 3:59Uh, the success you've had and we talk, it's not anything that's like
- 4:02easily easy to get used to. But when it comes to a number one
- 4:06song, I'd imagine there was a day You're like, I'll take top one
- 4:10hundred. I don't even need one. Just give me in the top one
- 4:13hundred, dude. This is this is actually really funny, but uh,
- 4:18with things a man ought to know. When we charted, I called my
- 4:24friend Dallas Wilson and I said I charted, and he thought, I said
- 4:27I charted, and he was like, you want I said, I charted.
- 4:32I charted, And then he called his sister. It was like a
- 4:35game of telephone. He said, Laney charted, and she said she's shard.
- 4:42It just kept going on and on and on and on. But that's
- 4:44one of my funny charting stories. That's so good. So we're talking the
- 4:49success obviously a Watermelon Moonshine. Is it tough to hold a song higher than
- 4:55others? You know what I mean? Like, obviously your first number one
- 4:58is always going to be special. Is it tough to look back and be
- 5:00like this one definitely meant more than the others have so far. I think
- 5:04they've all kind of served their purpose in a different kind of way. I
- 5:10think Watermelon Moonshine has kind of served the purpose of taking people back home.
- 5:15And the truth is, I'm on the road so much right now. It's
- 5:18nice being able to get up there during this season of my life and kind
- 5:23of sing about something that makes me feel at home. I feel like Heart
- 5:27like a Truck was kind of one of those anthems that kind of got me
- 5:30through some hard It's really crazy, like some of the hard times I was
- 5:33dealing with in my personal life while that song was doing its thing. They
- 5:40all serve a purpose. I truly believe that, even if they never see
- 5:43the light of the day. Every song that you write gets you to that
- 5:46next one. Obviously, you don't get to enjoy the journey as much as
- 5:54as you'd like to do your schedule and always, you know, writing when
- 5:57you can, recording, probably even fewer than do you know what's next?
- 6:01Have we already heard what's next? For you? We're getting back in the
- 6:05studio. We're gonna be cutting some more music. The truth is, I
- 6:11think I was already working on my next record before Bellbum Country Ever even came
- 6:15out. So always working on new music. But I was a songwriter before
- 6:19I was an artist, and so that is that's what my one true love
- 6:25is, creating songs, and so that's what I'm gonna be focusing on here
- 6:30really really soon. So hopefully new music will be coming out next year.
- 6:32And hey, if it was up to me, we'd be dropping a song
- 6:38every day. Listen, if you DM it to me, I can be
- 6:42playing it by tomorrow. After I know what I might, I might be
- 6:44like, oops, sorry, guys, listen. The funny thing is I'll
- 6:47get in trouble, not you, But I would do it for lady.
- 6:50Right, do you do you know what direction you want to go with the
- 6:56next album? Like do you think when you think title? Because obviously the
- 6:59songs make the album, But do you ever think title, because I mean,
- 7:02bell Bottom Country. You could really work your way up a country outfit.
- 7:05You could do bell Bottom Country and the next song is like turtle Neck
- 7:10two step or something. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna whoop
- 7:13you too. Actually, that's crazy you say that, because that was gonna
- 7:16be the name of the next record, Turtle Neck Tuesday. Crazy. The
- 7:25truth is, I think the name of the record will kind of just find
- 7:29itself. So but we we created the term bell Bottom Country back in twenty
- 7:35seventeen when I signed up my publishing deal and somebody was kind of referring to
- 7:42the way that I dress and also kind of the sound of my music and
- 7:44said, it's like, it's kind of like bell Bottom Country, and a
- 7:47little light went off in our head and that was it. We were like,
- 7:51this is gonna kind of like help us figure out what things look like
- 7:56and what things sound like. And so it kind of just made sense to
- 8:00call that sophomore record build Bottom Country. But the next record, I think
- 8:03it's going to show a different side of me. It's definitely going to show
- 8:07growth. I think I've grown a whole lot as a singer, songwriter and
- 8:11just as a person in the past year, two years, So you're going
- 8:15to be able to see that as you experience more life and you are seeing
- 8:20the success which every success, every rise to from the ashes, has to
- 8:28start. What's falling on your face? Right, And we've all fallen on
- 8:31our face and got up, and I'm sure you have before we ever knew
- 8:33your name. But the comeback has been phenomenal for Lanny Wilson. But as
- 8:39that happens, you're going to find more stories to tell. Is it going
- 8:41to get tougher as we continue to learn who Lannie Wilson is? Is it
- 8:46going to get tougher for you to dig deeper and become more vulnerable than you
- 8:50already have? No, To be honest, I think well, I would
- 8:56say it's just hard in general to be vulnerable and like really be vulnerable.
- 9:01You can like pretend you're kind of vulnerable, but uh, I feel like
- 9:07I'm getting a little a little more brave with that. I feel like at
- 9:11this point in my career, I'm not having to be like as much of
- 9:15like I'm Landy Wilson from Basking losing Inna from a town of two hundred people
- 9:18and thought I got to die bail Bottom country. I feel like for a
- 9:22really long time it was it was kind of trying. I was trying to
- 9:24set that foundation that way people could remember me. Now I do feel like
- 9:28a little bit of a weight has kind of been lifted. It makes me
- 9:33feel like, Okay, now I've accumulated some fans, and I wouldn't be
- 9:39doing them right if I wouldn't opening up and talking about struggles in my life.
- 9:43And you know, I mean, of course, you tell all your
- 9:48business. You ain't got none. I ain't gonna tell everybody everything, but
- 9:50I want to do it in a way that makes people feel like they're not
- 9:52alone. We're gonna fast forward to the CMA nominations up because I mean,
- 10:00it's really the l CMAS, the Laney Country Music Association Awards, now right,
- 10:07You're like, you know, listen, I'm laying the cheese on thick.
- 10:11Okay. Is it nuts to see your name on some of the biggest
- 10:18categories that exist in country music? Yes, and especially when I'm competing against
- 10:22myself. There are a few categories where me and Hardy are competing with me
- 10:26and Jelly. It's just like it's crazy, And especially the Entertainer of the
- 10:35Year thing, I fink I got some big o's, she used to feel.
- 10:39But the truth is we have. We literally had a club tour top
- 10:43of this year. We played stadiums with Lukecolmb's. We're on the road with
- 10:48Hardy right now. We have played every kind of air and festival you can
- 10:50think of. In between we played Red Rocks. We have played a gazillion
- 10:56shows, so we've been doing some entertaining. How excited are you to And
- 11:03first of all, good look before we move on, good luck at the
- 11:05CMA Awards. Everybody loves Landy Wilson. So I think you'll do You'll do
- 11:09fine, which turns out Tay and I will be there. So if you
- 11:11need help carrying trophies, holler at us all right. Well, you know
- 11:15they don't actually give you the trophy the day of. They wait like six
- 11:18or so months and you get it in the mail. That bothers me.
- 11:22They doing us dirty. They're doing us dirty. You know what, I'm
- 11:26gonna hand make you some and just carry him in myself. Uh, you're
- 11:33we recently what that trophy looked like. It would be horrible because my I'm
- 11:37not like good at man's stuff, so like I can't build things. I
- 11:41can't you if we were all stranded out somewhere, you would be more helpful
- 11:46in us surviving than I would be when it when it comes to touring you,
- 11:52your name is on some pretty impressive dates, including this Morgan Wallen uh
- 11:58Stadium tour. We just heard you're on a select few of those dates.
- 12:01Knowing that Morgan is and I'm not taking away because there is not much hotter
- 12:05name than Landy Wilson country music right now. But to know that a guy
- 12:09like Morgan, who is literally rewriting you know how a country music career goes.
- 12:15What does that mean? To be able to hop on the road and
- 12:16possibly end up collaborating together at some point, It's awesome. I love him.
- 12:24I've known him for a long time. But I went on the road
- 12:28with him and Hardy in twenty nineteen and we were playing like a thousand cap
- 12:33rooms. I mean like it was we were playing clubs and it was just
- 12:39me and my guitar, and then Hardy was next and then Morgan. And
- 12:43I remember then being like, I just know it. This dude is he's
- 12:48gonna do something that we have never seen and he's doing it. And I
- 12:52knew he would there's just something about the guy, you know, there's just
- 12:56something about him. You're just like, you can't help but love Morgan want
- 13:00And it is a movement. And I'll tell you what I think what him
- 13:05and Luke Colmbs both have done for country music. I mean, it's crazy
- 13:09to see how cool country music is, like becoming again. It should have
- 13:16never not been cool, but it does feel like it's a part of like
- 13:20a pop culture movement right now. And I'm proud to be a part of
- 13:22it too. A lot of people are saying, like, it feels like
- 13:24nineties country again, right. It feels huge, It feels it feels like
- 13:30the shows are getting bigger, the crowds are getting bigger. Yeah, I
- 13:35think I think, looking back on it years from now, be like I
- 13:39was a part of that right there, not even a part of a leader
- 13:43in it. Lady Wilson, we're carrying the torch. Let's go. Hey,
- 13:48we know you are type for time. And my god, we talked
- 13:50to you at nine thirty this morning and you're still sitting roughly in the same
- 13:54seat you were then. And guess what I got. I got here at
- 13:58eight fifteen. Yeah, mhm. Dedication, deddication but it is funny that
- 14:09my day started with y'all and it's kind of ending. We all too well.
- 14:11We appreciate you, and again I'm from the bottom of both of our
- 14:15hearts. That was that was It was even more special because we got to
- 14:18share with you, so thank you for that earlier. I love y'all and
- 14:20I'm very proud for y'all. Thank you. We love you girl. We'll
- 14:24catch up so
