- 0:06Renewable mobility, that the platform program for renewable fuels is very good afternoon.
- 0:26Today a new space begins here, in Capital Radio, in which we want
- 0:29to give visibility to a solution still something unknown for our mobility, but that
- 0:36is already a present option to solve the problem of pollution of emissions and to
- 0:42be more sustainable. We talk about renewable fuels that allow us to continue our
- 0:47daily lives, without needing to change anything. They are the real sustainable alternative.
- 0:53They are produced from organic waste such as aphytes, used jeres and kneads,
- 0:57industrial waste in many ways, and one of their main strengths is that
- 1:00they minimize emissions, since the ceo two released in their use is the same
- 1:04as that previously removed by the atmosphere, so they are one of the most
- 1:10effective solutions to reduce emissions from transport, from their present, from their uses,
- 1:14from their application and from their future. We will talk the next few
- 1:23weeks here in Renewable Mobility, with the collaboration of the platform for renewable fuels
- 1:40Renewable Mobility with Miguel San Martín, Renewable Mobility the latest news and we put
- 1:55some examples of how these fuels are already being used. For example, Moure
- 1:59Group, with its presence in the energy and car cleaning sector, has also
- 2:02expressed its support for renewable fuels as the most sustainable alternative to traditional carbonants and
- 2:08has called for more support to scale its production by two thousand thirty- five.
- 2:14Its Director General anticipated that the transition to cleaner mobility will be through a
- 2:21hybrid model, not from full electrification, and says that renewable fuels is the
- 2:24best way to reduce emissions. Reb Sola also announces that it is planted in
- 2:30Cartagena with the capacity to manufacture two hundred and fifty thousand tons of renewable fuel
- 2:36annually. Large- scale production has begun. It is the first of the
- 2:38peninsula dedicated exclusively to the production of these fuels and in which they have invested
- 2:43two hundred fifty million euros to this new plant, whose production of renewable fuels
- 2:49represents five percent of its total production of tenel or one seventeen in that of
- 2:53kerosene will be added in two thousand twenty- five a second in Puerto Llano
- 2:58in network sun. It currently supplies 100 per cent renewable fuel to more than
- 3:02one hundred and forty locations in Spain and Portugal. The six hundredth goal at
- 3:08the end of this year and more solarija announces its intention to invest almost eight
- 3:14hundred million euros in the numantia project in Soria focused the production of sustainable fuels
- 3:19for aviation. The initiative and the administrative process has begun. They' re
- 3:23going to start the works and have the facilities operational in two thousand twenty-
- 3:27eight. The forecast is that they will produce 60, 000 tons of sustainable
- 3:30fire for aviation, which is a figure equivalent to twelve zero flights between Madrid
- 3:36and Palma de Mallorca. And finally, the Danish chain of shops Taigar specialized
- 3:38in low price products, It has signed an agreement with the Shipping MAS to
- 3:42incorporate the transport program to move all its marine cargo through the services that use
- 3:46renewable fuels sea It says that the use of these as fuels against fossils allows
- 3:53to avoid the charges also associated with the entry of the marine mode. There
- 3:59is a European issue of emissions trading, the renewable mobility interview and we are
- 4:20going to approach this first programme as opposed to renewable fuels. And for this
- 4:28we have with us that will listen every week here next to me, Inés
- 4:32Cardenal, is already the spokesman of the platform for renewable fuels and is that
- 4:38such good afternoon, thank you very much, Miguel. Pleased to be here
- 4:41on a project as beautiful as it is to explain this reality to the listeners
- 4:45of radio capital and for them to, as we say, a reality that
- 4:49you have just told us what this platform is, because the platform for renewable
- 4:56fuels is born in the year two thousand twenty- one. Because, well,
- 5:00many sectors that considered it necessary to join forces to propose the alternative of
- 5:05renewable fuels simply as one more in the decarbonisation process. We do not understand
- 5:13that the energy transition has to be posed as a war between technologies, but
- 5:17we believe that all of them will then be necessary on the platform, because
- 5:21we are present, on the one hand, the producers and distributors of renewable
- 5:28fuels but then many other sectors that will need them to decarbonize, such as
- 5:33the transport of goods and people and passengers by road, maritime air transport,
- 5:39the agricultural sector, manufacturers of automotive components, the motorcycle sector. Well,
- 5:45anyway, as I say, we represent more than three hundred and forty-
- 5:48eight thousand companies of all kinds, from multinationals to self- employed and nothing
- 5:55less than five seven million workers. It is said soon that they are all
- 6:00integrated into this platform for that purpose. Because what is the objective, Why
- 6:06is it born, Well it is born because we believe, we understand that
- 6:13both Europe and Spain are proposing as the only alternative to achieve the neutrality of
- 6:17emissions by two thousand fifty to electrification. And well, and we understand this
- 6:21as a wrong goal. The aim is not to electrify. The goal is
- 6:27to achieve emissions neutrality by two thousand and fifty, as I said, and
- 6:30to achieve that goal, which is tremendously challenging, we believe that all alternatives
- 6:34are necessary. We insist without wars. This is not an anti- electrification
- 6:39platform. It is simply a platform that believes that if we do not take
- 6:44into account all the alternatives, because the transition forgiveness is not going to be
- 6:47what he has told us, that it has to be that it is fair,
- 6:50efficient and inclusive. We do not have to take into account that each
- 6:53sector has needs, that every consumer has circumstances and only using all alternatives,
- 6:59such as renewable fuels too, because all those needs can be met within that
- 7:05objective. It is, as pointed out ines, to be an alternative.
- 7:14This is something we are going to say unique to our country or at European
- 7:19level there are also similar initiatives and work is being done on these renewable fuels.
- 7:24Yes, there are platforms similar to Spanish in other countries. And because,
- 7:29indeed, as I said before, it is Europe that is driving this
- 7:32exclusively electrical regulation. In other words, Europe wants to reserve renewable fuels for
- 7:39uses that cannot be electrified exclusively, such as aviation and maritime. But it
- 7:43' s that we believe and then we' re going to see it in
- 7:46the chat we' re going to have next. We believe that there are
- 7:48sectors such as freight and road passenger transport that, with renewable fuels, can
- 7:54begin to decarbonize immediately and progressively, without the need to ship the entire fleet,
- 8:00using the existing infrastructure, that is, we want it to be a
- 8:03much more efficient alternative and more cost efficient for these sectors. No, but
- 8:09there are similar infinitious initiatives and also, as I said in the news,
- 8:16it should be noted that it is a reality that is present, that can
- 8:22be used, that it is not something of the future, but that or
- 8:28like other technologies that will arrive or that say they will be here, it
- 8:33is already yes, we have the very great advantage over other technologies that we
- 8:39know how to do it already, as you said, are already commercializing in
- 8:45Spain, 100% renewable fuels projects. There are many projects under way.
- 8:48You have cited some, but there are many more and, indeed, the
- 8:52great advantage that should not be expected. In other words, we can use
- 8:56the entire distribution infrastructure and the entire fleet of vehicles exists. It' s
- 9:01a reality, it' s the present, it' s not the future.
- 9:03But let' s also put po with the bad side. Why is
- 9:07it that the best that this is one of the objectives of this space,
- 9:11that the general public and, above all, the audience capital radio mainly of
- 9:16business enterprises know that it is a valid option for their strategies of sustainability,
- 9:24because from the regulation is being told to the citizens and the sectors that are
- 9:28then to debate today that their only alternative is to buy an electric vehicle.
- 9:33That is the signal that is being given and to companies also from the regulatory
- 9:37point of view, what is being told is we just want to bet on
- 9:41literacy. Therefore, it is very difficult in this environment, since the investments
- 9:45that are necessary are given, which are billionaires to transform, for example,
- 9:50the entire refining system in Spain and the consumers the sectors, because really they
- 9:54are not being given the alternative. Today, a trans is not being proposed
- 9:58on an equal footing. I insist without wars, this is very important and
- 10:03without questioning the objectives. This is also one thing All the associations attached to
- 10:07the platform are absolutely committed to the goal. We are only questioning how this
- 10:13objective can be achieved. It will be achieved because, of course, we
- 10:20are also persistent and we will continue to disseminate everything that is necessary to make
- 10:26known this alternative, which has infinite benefits for the whole of the industry,
- 10:31of the Spanish society, of the economic sectors. We believe it is a
- 10:35bet that benefits the rural economy, the circular economy, the energy independence of
- 10:39our country, the competitiveness of freight and passenger transport, which will then debate
- 10:45the need to de- cargo. Therefore, they are all benefits. There
- 10:50' s no problem. In conclusion, he mentioned rural Spain, where,
- 10:56as there may be cities that never see a point, a point to recharge
- 11:01and that can be asked with my large, small medium vehicle, you can
- 11:07use this type of fuel. A vehicle that is eight ten years old,
- 11:13for example, more short than just bought, will then be counted by our
- 11:18guests. But it' s already being used. As I say, they
- 11:22are 100% renewable fuels. You have mentioned it many times, for example,
- 11:26made with used cooking oil that until recently was thrown in the sink and
- 11:30that is practically indistinguishable from diesel. They' ll tell. But come on.
- 11:35I believe that the tests are very satisfactory and that it is a product
- 11:39that is fulfilling in the instrument all the characteristics that the sectors and the consumers
- 11:43need, because here we leave a little the basis of what it is,
- 11:48we will have a lot of time to debate. And as Inés said,
- 11:52so let' s go with the chat. The renewable mobility meeting begins.
- 12:22In addition to Inés Cardenal, he accompanies us in Ramón Maldía, who is
- 12:28the Executive Vice President of ASTI and the International Road Transport Association. Ramon how
- 12:31about, Very good hello, good afternoon, Héctor Benito is the project manager
- 12:35and racing consultancy, Héctor logistics group very good afternoon, and MiguelÁngel Alonso,
- 12:41the director of engineering and European Fund Office of ALSA How about, My
- 12:45Grandel Thank you for joining us. Thank you very much, Miguel. If
- 12:48you allow me, let' s start with Ramón, who is the one
- 12:52who groups a little bit the then the Road Transport Association, and then talk
- 13:00about your examples and to say why these Ramón renewable fuels are important for transport
- 13:11and, therefore, because they can be. In addition, even I am
- 13:13going to say I throw myself into the pool a little, a way of
- 13:16salvation for many companies that have to continue with their activity the society of their
- 13:22current way of life is inconceivable without there being transport of roads, without that
- 13:24all the industries and territories are vertebrated with the movement of passengers and goods.
- 13:31Then, therefore, we, representatives of companies that buy vehicles to service the
- 13:35society of that demand for mobility of people and goods, what we want is
- 13:41that there is the maximum possible variety of options. Does it seem a little
- 13:48difficult to accept that in these years, in which we are all so aware
- 13:52that the world can change every fortnight radically, we have the ability to foresee
- 13:56at such a distance with such certainty? It seems that this is a little
- 14:01difficult to accept that we already know the solution that is going to be in
- 14:03the two thousand thirty- five, in the two thousand fifty, the more
- 14:07options we have, the more variety there is better. We will adapt with
- 14:09each option to each application where it is most efficient, where both the economic
- 14:16point of view is more efficient and more efficient from the point of view of
- 14:18the objective of sharing of being neutral in emissions of so two in the two
- 14:22thousand fifty. Therefore, this is an option that already exists that people,
- 14:28who you said before, do not know, but that people, the normal
- 14:31citizen, are already using half fuels. Every time we put a liter of
- 14:35fuel in our car, ten percent is already one of these. Therefore,
- 14:39there is infrastructure, as has been pointed out, there is capacity and we,
- 14:43as representatives of road transport companies, what we are also interested in a
- 14:48second derivative is that Spain is a powerful industrial country that you believe in our
- 14:52mind, that you believe that its economy is going well. And we believe
- 14:56that this is a good option, because Spain brings together the conditions it is
- 15:01necessary to be able to manufacture, to be able to supply not only to
- 15:07Spanish consumption, but also to export this type of fuel and help the Spanish
- 15:11industry, since it reaches that famous twenty percent of the IP and that we
- 15:13all want, that will be good for the Spanish economy and, therefore,
- 15:16good for what we dedicate to serving the citizens and the companies. And besides
- 15:20that in Spain we have not commented many times Ramón is a country in which,
- 15:24therefore, the transport of goods by rail is, because we are going
- 15:28to say, almost anecdotal and much presence of road transport. And then it
- 15:33is tremendously important for the economy of all areas. And, in fact,
- 15:39it is also that the Spanish business fabric, compared to other countries, as
- 15:43it is a much smaller business fabric and, therefore, the movement of goods
- 15:45adapts much better to the road. It is not that Spain has already been
- 15:50despised, but rail transport is that it adapts worse to reality. Still we
- 15:54drive intermodality and we are delighted to have in green of ninety- five per
- 15:58share of movement of goods only eighty, if that eighty is larger, ninety
- 16:03- five. Therefore, growing the economy interests us, because we will talk
- 16:08with if I allow two monsters of the size of the road transport, as
- 16:15previously presented to Hector to the Project Manager, Career Consulting, logistic group,
- 16:19so that people are a little what you are doing and already with renewable fuels,
- 16:26to send a little more in that it is a reality and with an
- 16:30experience that you take time. Well, we, as operators, are specialized.
- 16:36Well, he' s an international prior. We have comprehensive logistics,
- 16:40we specialize in food, drinks, energy and circular economy. And well it
- 16:45does we compete with big international companies, because we are really a national company
- 16:49and each of the great elements that a local company has to have to compete
- 16:53with these moderates you are to be more competitive and have a differential with these
- 16:57operators in many of these characteristics. Within the strategic plans we designed a model
- 17:03in which the sustainable logistics operator would be the worst in the future, just
- 17:07as the information systems would have differentiated us from others. We understood that holding
- 17:11it was going to be a very important change for an operator under several premises.
- 17:15The first is that the cost structure of an operator is based on its
- 17:18logistics warehouses, so we have a great energy consumption and more when you are
- 17:21engaged in controlled temperature sectors. And the second, of course, in the
- 17:26end we have a great consumption, which is the ten the fuell because in
- 17:29the end, of course, all our logistics has to be based on the
- 17:32movement, the movement of vehicles, which we did manage to control those two
- 17:34variables. We understood that in the future we managed to be more efficient than
- 17:37the rest and, moreover, if we managed to make those variables Green,
- 17:42we would have a great differential. In two thousand eleven we began to design
- 17:45our action plan. That' s where we started hiring the green energy part
- 17:48with our power generation with more efficient warehouses. And we already saw clearly that
- 17:51the vehicle was the part of the equation that weighs the most for us,
- 17:55the bigger we are, the more vehicles, we need to move and that,
- 18:00therefore, the more consumption we have That' s where we started some
- 18:04very clear strategies of efficient driving network, of reducing the weight of our vehicles,
- 18:08of engaging the projects of the duos, etc. And we saw clearly
- 18:11that the next step was to either prepare for new fuels, because we understood
- 18:15that it was the next step that the only part that allows us today to
- 18:18continue with our reduction. In fact, today we have had the second star
- 18:21of Lina Green, which means that we have reduced our emissions by thirty percent
- 18:23from two thousand sixteen that base year. This year we will have the third,
- 18:29which is thirty- five, and all the evolution that remains of us
- 18:32is the substitution of the fuels that we are using in agreement. Two years
- 18:36ago we made an agreement with one of the big oil companies because they needed
- 18:41pilots to be able to make use of fuel. We put ourselves at the
- 18:45disposal of them as a company and began testing in all our fleet types,
- 18:48from large tonnage vehicles, capillary collection vehicles, smaller distribution vehicles and different motorizations
- 18:55and brands, the use of Uando biofuels we started with a very small diesel
- 19:00in the area of Catalonia and gradually we evolved and tested it towards all the
- 19:03motorizations we had and all kinds of use of vehicles, that is, forcing
- 19:07the vehicle and making a lot of tonnage with less weight, intermediate zones,
- 19:11making mixtures with the biofuel, days, etc. And that' s where
- 19:15we figured it out. Indeed, we already knew that, because the brands
- 19:18that accompany us are already using it in other countries. It was an efficient
- 19:23method. That' s where we' ve been evolving in the last year
- 19:29and Vale peak. It is true that at first it was harder because it
- 19:30was mainly a cost issue Vale. Many of our other customers have already started
- 19:36to participate in our projects. We have piloted with the vast majority of them
- 19:40and to this day, which I think we are already in the final phase,
- 19:41is that well, there is already a large deployment of biofuel, with
- 19:45which junces can already refuel in almost all areas of Spain and Portugal. Now
- 19:48we have a very easy one is worth and we have everything that these bikers
- 19:52of the vast majority of our customers are no longer demanding that that, that
- 19:56is an important point, that also the customers themselves are aware of sustainability and
- 20:03that they ask for it exactly. Then, from there each for us had
- 20:07a double focus. First is whether Europe moves towards a circular environment and everything
- 20:11has to be rousable, because fuel did not have to be. That was
- 20:17one of the first variables. And second, because in the end logistics has
- 20:22a lot of complexity in the way it is distributed and apart, it is
- 20:27vertebrated by a group of many companies that also support the operators that we need
- 20:33to be international. Then of course I, for example, can' t
- 20:34get to the Arán Valley to distribute. That' s why I have smaller
- 20:37companies that collaborate with me and make the distribution clear. Of course, when
- 20:41you have to design a complete structure, new distribution, you want to change
- 20:45all your means, invest in everything. You have to look clearly at the
- 20:48means that it has, in the work cycles, in the productivity that we
- 20:51have to have as companies. All these variables are very important to us and
- 20:55biofuel, in this case, for us is a very fast solution, because
- 20:57my collaborators can use them without any problem. It may be a topic that
- 21:02they have to replace their vehicles with some more modern, but well, they
- 21:04are vehicles of lower cost and in our fleets that are continuously renewed by the
- 21:08number of kilometers that we do, we have it very easy, because our
- 21:12entire fleet is prepared and designed for the use of vidio fuels And in the
- 21:15case of Alza, look range because in our case look at us to comment
- 21:21for a company of road passenger transport. It is really a challenge, a
- 21:22challenge, the issue of transition, and in that sense, we have been
- 21:26working for many years in a pioneering way in our sector to test these new
- 21:30technologies. We have tried technologies of all kinds to know which final is the
- 21:34most cost- effective, but above all, that it is sustainable. For
- 21:37us, the important thing is that everything we transition is sustainable from the point
- 21:41of view. One middle, two, logically security and three of them,
- 21:45otherwise, because we owe ourselves to our investors. It has to be economically
- 21:51viable and it is one thing that we have to ensure. Yes or yes.
- 21:53For that we have been introducing new technologies for years, both electric batteries
- 22:00and hydrogen vehicles, which we have already circulating and how you can no other
- 22:04way, in this case, renewable fuels. We already made that bet several
- 22:11years ago and I will explain to you what our results have been, because
- 22:18we understood that in a road passenger transport, in which in an urban environment
- 22:22and depending on the operation, it can be urban, metropolitan or long journey,
- 22:26depends absolutely on what operation you do is going to be sustainable or not
- 22:30to one of those technologies, we had to prove solutions that were tangible and
- 22:36that we had in hand as soon as possible. And in this case,
- 22:37this case was good, because it was very clear. It was the issue
- 22:41of biofuels. We already in the year two thousand twenty- one did the
- 22:45first biofuel test in Billoo and were with twelve vehicles, Twelve vehicles in which
- 22:52we switched to this biofuel and for five months we were circulating with the fuel.
- 22:57Later we have also done so last year in the consortium of reginar of
- 23:03transports of Madrid to move from an urban area to a metropolitan area, and
- 23:07at this moment we are doing so also in other fleets that we have in
- 23:11Granada in the metropolitan area, but also in regional or long- distance vehicles,
- 23:15as it can be in Castilla León. That for what, to be
- 23:18able to ensure that that technology is viable to our operation and that the tc
- 23:23or the total cost of life of the vehicle in the end, what matters
- 23:26to us. We do not buy because the licles are cheaper at least form
- 23:30a vehicle in the end can fulfill its operation and that cost is equivalent to
- 23:33at least the one we have right now with the Diezel. And that is
- 23:37key for us in that area, because I would like to say to you
- 23:42that in biofuels, in this case it has been a success in that sense,
- 23:47in that we have managed to make the operation exactly the same as a
- 23:52tenel vehicle, so that is not a minor issue. Operational means you don
- 23:55' t have to have more drivers, which means you can operate the same
- 24:00time and with other technologically incorporated solutions. Because it must be remembered that we,
- 24:06in alsa, have set clear objectives that in two thousand thirty- five
- 24:10our entire urban fleet will be zero missions and that in twenty forty, our
- 24:15entire long- distance fleet will be zero emissions. In order to get to
- 24:19that, we measure in your do escape or measure in the complete cycle are
- 24:23key and in this sense, we tell you that we have achieved with this
- 24:29technology of moments to see that the operating the same recharge times or times,
- 24:33in this case, of reposterrosa the same ten. In this case the issue
- 24:37of secure supply, because it is the same infrastructure that you have. And
- 24:42then, apart from those vehicles, the ob vehicles don' t have to
- 24:45make any modifications with six gold vehicles, right now you' re just getting
- 24:51refuelled and you don' t have any other problems. In addition, there
- 24:52are no additional maintenance requirements. The vehicle is exactly the same and then we
- 25:00have the same performance. They neither improve nor decrease benefits. They are the
- 25:03same, with which for the operation of our operation of an operation is an
- 25:08element that allows us to transition and a very important thing from this moment to
- 25:14a future, which we, in our case, in urban, in some
- 25:17case, we are able to transition already in electric vehicles of battery, hydrogen
- 25:21vehicles. But that with this technology, in the vehicles that we already have
- 25:25in the fleet, that we will not be able to renew in the next
- 25:29few years, could already be decanonizing thirty seconds that there is not much more
- 25:33left for each one. Ramón will prevail or not. In the end,
- 25:37Europeans will either ignore us or listen to renewables. Well, I' m
- 25:41convinced of the Spanish saying that water always goes to the river. Then we
- 25:47are obliged to serve society and we are going to give it and use the
- 25:51means at our disposal. But yes, it is regrettable that we do not
- 25:56have a little more momentum for things that we can take. Yeah. There
- 25:57is no need to wait for two thousand thirty and children, two thousand thirty
- 26:00- five. We can already reduce our emissions of ceo two and be closer
- 26:03to neutrality From now on, as I think it has become clear in the
- 26:07two speakers the three interventions of Péctor fatreritos seconds to see, I believe I
- 26:12have made it quite clear. MiguelÁngeles Es. In the end, the
- 26:17three varieties of deficiency are clear. We can maintain people, we can maintain
- 26:19productivity, we don' t have faults. We managed in a short step
- 26:23to make a major leap in reducing our footprints. He has been able to
- 26:29advance and towards hydrogen and a part electrification that we, as an operator,
- 26:32see in a step further, because I have to do I went out long
- 26:34distance and he has a short mile that daily and I cannot execute, with
- 26:37which we are convinced films and our customers also today, that it is the
- 26:41fastest step for us and the last ten that have left you ten seconds nothing.
