- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome back to the Elon Musk.
- 0:04Podcast this. Is a show where we discuss the
- 0:07critical crossroads. The shape SpaceX.
- 0:09Tesla X The Boring Company. And Neuralink.
- 0:13I'm your. Host.
- 0:14Will. Walden Elon Musk recently
- 0:16expressed his disapproval after Melinda French Gates endorsed
- 0:20President Joe Biden for the upcoming election.
- 0:23Gates, who had never endorsed a presidential candidate before,
- 0:27announced her support for Biden on social media platform X,
- 0:31stating the election significant consequences for women and
- 0:35families. Gates made her endorsement in an
- 0:37ex post on Thursday, explaining. I've never endorsed a
- 0:41presidential candidate before, but this year's election stands
- 0:44to be so enormously consequential for women and
- 0:47families that this time I can't stay quiet.
- 0:53Her announcement sparked a critical response from Musk.
- 0:57Musk responded to an ex post by the Babylon Bee staffer Ashley
- 1:04St. Clair about Gates endorsement
- 1:08saying might be the downfall of Western Civilization.
- 1:12This reaction is not the first time Musk has criticized a
- 1:15billionaire's ex-wife. In March, he made similar
- 1:20comments about Jeff Bezos ex-wife Mackenzie Scott for her
- 1:25philanthropic efforts. In March, Musk posted Super rich
- 1:29ex wives who hate their former spouse should be listed among
- 1:33reasons that Western Civilization died.
- 1:36Though this post has since been deleted, Gates endorsement of
- 1:39Biden appears to have placed her on Musk's list of disapproved
- 1:43billionaire exes, the Babylon Bees.
- 1:46Saint Clair followed up her initial post by saying many
- 1:49supervillain arcs being pursued under the guise of philanthropy.
- 1:52Musk agreed, replying with Yeah. Musk's negative sentiment
- 1:56towards Gates extends beyond her endorsement and includes her
- 2:02former husband, Bill Gates. Musk's biography reveals his
- 2:07disdain for Bill Gates, who he accused of shorting Tesla's
- 2:10stock, thereby undermining investments in a company
- 2:13dedicated to fighting climate change.
- 2:16Musk labeled this action as pure hypocrisy, considering Bill
- 2:20Gates's purported passion for combating climate change.
- 2:25Musk's discontent with Melinda Frenchgates also seems to be
- 2:30tied to his broader disdain for President Joe Biden.
- 2:34Musk has been vocal about his criticism of Biden, especially
- 2:38after Tesla was not included in the president's electric vehicle
- 2:41summit. Biden held this EV summit,
- 2:45didn't invite Tesla, invited GM, Ford, Chrysler and UAW United
- 2:54Auto Workers Union and EV summit at the White House.
- 2:58Musk said to journalist Kara Swisher in September 2021,
- 3:02Didn't mention Tesla once and praised GM and Ford for leading
- 3:09the EV revolution. Musk has also criticized Biden's
- 3:13handling of various issues, such as the southern border crisis
- 3:17and the Democratic Party's alleged control by unions.
- 3:20These grievances contribute to Musk's reluctance to support
- 3:23Biden in the upcoming election. In November, during an interview
- 3:28at the New York Times Deal Book Summit, Musk told journalist
- 3:31Aaron Ross Sorkin that he was unlikely to vote for Biden.
- 3:35Despite this, Musk has refrained from endorsing former President
- 3:39Donald Trump. However, Musk seems to have
- 3:42developed a closer relationship with Trump.
- 3:44He mentioned in a recent Tesla shareholder meeting that Trump
- 3:48occasionally calls him randomly, describing these interactions as
- 3:52friendly. I have had some conversations
- 3:54with him and he does call me out of the blue for no reason.
- 3:57I don't know why, but he does. Musk said.
- 4:00Representatives for Musk and Gates did not respond to
- 4:02requests for comment, which were sent outside regular business
- 4:05hours. Gates endorsement of Biden marks
- 4:08a significant moment as she has previously refrained from
- 4:11publicly supporting any presidential candidate.
- 4:15Melinda French Gates is a well known billionaire and
- 4:17philanthropist having Co founded the Bill and Melinda Gates
- 4:21Foundation with her ex-husband. Her endorsement of Biden, made
- 4:26through an op-ed for CNN, emphasizes the elections
- 4:29importance for women and families.
- 4:31In her op-ed, Gates wrote after Trump's first term in office
- 4:38endangered the health of women, compromising their safety and
- 4:43robbing them of essential freedoms.
- 4:45I'm supporting Biden this election and asking others to do
- 4:48the same. Her involvement in politics has
- 4:51typically been through her venture capital firm, Pivotal
- 4:53Ventures, which focuses on increasing women's
- 4:56representation in politics. Gates criticized former
- 5:00President Trump's rhetoric and policies, highlighting his
- 5:04divisive and sometimes violent language, particularly towards
- 5:08women journalists, and his restrictions on reproductive
- 5:12services. She also mentioned the Supreme
- 5:14Court justices he appointed, which led to the overturning of
- 5:18Roe versus Wade. In the two years since Roe was
- 5:21overturned, emergency rooms have turned away pregnant women in
- 5:25desperate need of care because doctors feared legal
- 5:29consequences, Gates wrote. Obstetricians have fled states
- 5:33with strict bans, which could leave women without access to
- 5:36basic services like contraceptives.
- 5:39Gates argued that Trump's re election would allow states to
- 5:42monitor and prosecute pregnant women, contrasting this with
- 5:45Biden's efforts to protect reproductive freedom and support
- 5:49women's rights. She praised Biden as the
- 5:52strongest champion for caregivers the Oval Office has
- 5:55ever seen. Gates concluded her op-ed by
- 5:58urging voters to support Biden, emphasizing his understanding of
- 6:02the critical role of women in the country's future.
- 6:06She described her decision to endorse Biden as driven by the
- 6:09urgent need to protect women's and families rights and
- 6:12freedoms. In May, Gates announced her
- 6:14resignation from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, taking
- 6:18$12.5 billion for her own philanthropic initiatives.
- 6:22She committed to donating a billion dollars over 2 years to
- 6:26organizations supporting women and families globally,
- 6:28underscoring her dedication to gender equality.
- 6:32Gates endorsement of Biden underscores her commitment to
- 6:35advancing women's rights and health.
- 6:38Her public support for a presidential candidate for the
- 6:40first time reflects the high stakes she sees in the upcoming
- 6:44election for women and families. This podcast is brought to you
