- 0:56Speaker 1: to get into it? That's good in case you missed it. Alright,
- 1:01Speaker 1: chall So if you believe that racism is taught, then
- 1:05Speaker 1: I would agree. A nine year old Caucasian shall had
- 1:08Speaker 1: a few words for her school board after seeing Black
- 1:11Speaker 1: Lives Matters posters on campus. Listen to this little child.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I looked up onto the wall and saw a BLM
- 1:19Speaker 1: poster and an Amanda Gorman poster. And least you don't
- 1:23Speaker 1: know who that chick is. She's some girl who did
- 1:25Speaker 1: a poem that Biden so called inauguration. I was so mad.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Does not matter the color you make the posters and
- 1:31Speaker 1: the font you use, we all understand the meaning. It
- 1:35Speaker 1: is a political message about getting rid of police officers rioting,
- 1:39Speaker 1: burning buildings down while King Governor Walts just sits on
- 1:42Speaker 1: his throne and watches Yo, the micro water. Listen, the
- 1:49Speaker 1: micro aggression in her voice is absolutely little girl, you
- 1:54Speaker 1: know who that chick is? Okay, Now, the fact that
- 1:57Speaker 1: she is so mad and so sure she even knows
- 2:01Speaker 1: what the Black Lives Matter movement is actually about really
- 2:05Speaker 1: tells us a lot about her upbringing. And I'm just
- 2:06Speaker 1: gonna say this because I really don't care. It's sad, Okay,
- 2:10Speaker 1: it is sad. Your mama and your daddy is sad,
- 2:13Speaker 1: all right. Now, moving on. I interviewed Rapper to See
- 2:16Speaker 1: not too long ago, and you know what, he was
- 2:18Speaker 1: as cool as hell. He seemed to have his head
- 2:21Speaker 1: on straight. And like me, he's a bit of a
- 2:23Speaker 1: conspiracy theorist. But I did not see this one coming. Y'all.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Listen to what he said about pop Eyes. Why after
- 2:30Speaker 1: the Popeye's chicken said, which came out A pandemic was
- 2:34Speaker 1: a thing. That will tell me did the world not
- 2:36Speaker 1: go in a hole? What's Popeye? Alright? Boom, We're gonna
- 2:40Speaker 1: kill Papa's all right. It's a lot of black folks
- 2:44Speaker 1: that I actually never had it, and that's probably why
- 2:48Speaker 1: I never got the covids. I mean, Tucy might be right.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I had a young gripper from here. Okay, now, so listen.
- 2:58Speaker 1: At this point, it really is just whatever you believe
- 3:00Speaker 1: about the global pandemic, because everybody just saying whatever you
- 3:02Speaker 1: want to say. All right, that is what's new with Sue.
- 3:05Speaker 1: In case you missed it, We'll be right back. Stay
- 3:08Speaker 1: tuned with more of the Baller Alert Show. Back to
- 3:13Speaker 1: the Baller Alert Show start. Ferrori Simmons and Sue Solo
- 3:18Speaker 1: Faller Nation joined us in welcoming and American producer who
- 3:22Speaker 1: was a known hit man. Amongst the hit man that
- 3:25Speaker 1: helped make music Moogo Shaan Kom's bad Boy Records of Vibe,
- 3:29Speaker 1: A man who's behind some of our favorite classics behind
- 3:32Speaker 1: the notorious B I. G. Faith Evans, V. Mary J.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Blige and more, Ball the Nations. Snap your fingers or
- 3:39Speaker 1: clap your hands for Chucky Man. Let's dope to be here.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Appreciate it. How you feeling today's sir? And I'm good
- 3:48Speaker 1: man anticipating this when you know what I'm saying. Ball
- 3:52Speaker 1: Alert is like one of my favorite spots, you know
- 3:54Speaker 1: what I mean. So, Chucky, you've been in the game
- 3:57Speaker 1: since the nineties, the early nineties at that you have
- 4:02Speaker 1: a crazy resume. What are some of the classics that
- 4:06Speaker 1: people may know you for and don't know that you
- 4:08Speaker 1: had anything to do with them. I mean one of
- 4:12Speaker 1: the biggest ones would be Big Cooper, you know what
- 4:14Speaker 1: I mean? Um, and then My Life you know that one. Um,
- 4:20Speaker 1: But then a lot of people don't realize I did one,
- 4:23Speaker 1: Mike so Nas you know, Wow, that's one of the
- 4:26Speaker 1: biggest songs ever. Yeah, but I mean, you know it's
- 4:30Speaker 1: you know, I've always been a little key with it,
- 4:33Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Um, So it's you know,
- 4:35Speaker 1: it's partly my fault that people don't know these things.
- 4:39Speaker 1: But I mean they know the records, and you know
- 4:41Speaker 1: these records have been a part of of hip hop
- 4:44Speaker 1: and pop culture. So you know, I just feel good
- 4:48Speaker 1: about that that that my contributions have helped, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 1: push this thing along, you know. All right, So so
- 4:55Speaker 1: paint the picture for me. It's the nineties. You know,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you're talented, you know your how the help to become
- 5:02Speaker 1: a hitman at that um well, you know, it was
- 5:05Speaker 1: a mutual friend that that kind of pushed the situation
- 5:08Speaker 1: with me and Puff, And you know, at that time,
- 5:12Speaker 1: I was just submitting songs and one of those songs
- 5:15Speaker 1: was the one song that Mary liked, which was to
- 5:19Speaker 1: be with You record. So you know I heard at
- 5:23Speaker 1: that time she was just picking a bunch of songs
- 5:25Speaker 1: and nothing really attracted her, but that one song came
- 5:28Speaker 1: in and was like, yo, I want to do this.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So that's when Puff really said, you know what, let
- 5:33Speaker 1: me get ready. We we decided on a management agreement,
- 5:36Speaker 1: so you know, he was my manager. But then you
- 5:39Speaker 1: know a lot of the work that I was getting
- 5:41Speaker 1: was worked to help him solidify himself as a producer.
- 5:44Speaker 1: So we kind of made that pack that you know,
- 5:46Speaker 1: we're helping each other, you know, and you know, that's
- 5:51Speaker 1: pretty much how the story started. I was really the
- 5:53Speaker 1: first one. Uh you know son he was working with
- 5:56Speaker 1: a couple of producers at that time. You know, EASYMBI
- 5:59Speaker 1: was in a situation. Um Rashard tumming on Dice was
- 6:03Speaker 1: in the situation. But you know, I was the first
- 6:06Speaker 1: one that was kind of signed under management. So you know,
- 6:10Speaker 1: when I got there, it was just like okay, I
- 6:12Speaker 1: got this DC thing, this hospitality thing, and I played
- 6:15Speaker 1: like eight different instruments, so I started going around the
- 6:18Speaker 1: different sessions and just contribute, you know. But that was
- 6:23Speaker 1: also getting me on projects. So when you hear the
- 6:25Speaker 1: guitars on Ready to Die, that's me with easy Mobile,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So, like, you know, it
- 6:32Speaker 1: started from there pretty much. Wait wait wait, wait, let
- 6:35Speaker 1: me interrupt. Let me interjet because this sounds really good
- 6:39Speaker 1: and it sounds like you have been making a lot
- 6:42Speaker 1: of money. So I want to ask you what was
- 6:45Speaker 1: the biggest first check that you got and how much
- 6:49Speaker 1: was it and what the hell did you do with it?
- 6:51Speaker 1: Go with that, man, I mean, it was when I
- 6:56Speaker 1: signed my publishing agreement, you know what I mean, when
- 6:58Speaker 1: I signed with Sony and um, you know at that time,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know, step over the mouth, don't skip over the
- 7:06Speaker 1: mouth truck. It was it was, it was, you know,
- 7:09Speaker 1: my first million dollars came from Badward. You know that
- 7:14Speaker 1: that was you know, our agreement, like Puff felt that
- 7:19Speaker 1: strongly about the union that you know at that time
- 7:23Speaker 1: for me to be a new producer coming in the game,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and you know, that was my contract. And then from
- 7:28Speaker 1: there it was the publishing Tony Publishing, which I just
- 7:31Speaker 1: re read did my agreement with Big John over there?
- 7:35Speaker 1: So shout out the Big John and all of the
- 7:37Speaker 1: people over that, Sony, you know what I'm saying. So yeah,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I gotta kicked in, you know what I mean. And
- 7:44Speaker 1: the crazy thing is a million dollars then was was
- 7:48Speaker 1: a little more than a million dollars. Now, yeah, real
- 7:51Speaker 1: real talk, real talk. But you know it's like I said,
- 7:54Speaker 1: a lot of it had to do with that that
- 7:57Speaker 1: that trust, you know what I mean, because you don't
- 7:59Speaker 1: just signing people and giving them that type of a
- 8:02Speaker 1: situation if you don't think that it's going to work
- 8:05Speaker 1: out or think that you know, you're capable of making
- 8:08Speaker 1: it happen with them. So I still got to get
- 8:11Speaker 1: a puffle out of credit for just seeing, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 1: seeing seeing something to me that I probably didn't even
- 8:16Speaker 1: seeing myself at that time because you know, I'm coming
- 8:19Speaker 1: from d C. You know, he was in the game.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'm trying to get there, you know, and that was
- 8:24Speaker 1: just the startup. So that was a dope to me,
- 8:27Speaker 1: like one of the dopest stars, you know, to get
- 8:30Speaker 1: it kicked in. Yeah. I can't imagine it could have gotten, honestly,
- 8:34Speaker 1: any bigger than that at that time, especially being in
- 8:37Speaker 1: black culture because he was he was the man, he
- 8:41Speaker 1: was real talk. I mean, you know, I was just
- 8:46Speaker 1: I was lucky, you know to have had uh, somebody
- 8:49Speaker 1: because did anything about it. At that time, it was
- 8:51Speaker 1: no Internet. It was really no way to get to
- 8:54Speaker 1: people other than for you to actually meet them and
- 8:57Speaker 1: then you have to actually you know, meet them in
- 9:02Speaker 1: a way where they want to even deal with you.
- 9:04Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. It was a weird time,
- 9:07Speaker 1: but I was lucky enough to have somebody there to
- 9:10Speaker 1: kind of like, you know, at least have a bridge
- 9:13Speaker 1: into it. Um and it got that song placed and
- 9:17Speaker 1: you know the rest of the rest kicked it in.
- 9:20Speaker 1: That was it. That was history, you know, Chuck, Chuck,
- 9:22Speaker 1: I got a question. I know you have a Biggie
- 9:24Speaker 1: story that you can tell us, because you know, I
- 9:27Speaker 1: grew up listening to bigg He never met him. I
- 9:29Speaker 1: was a kid when he passed away. Um. You know,
- 9:32Speaker 1: so I kind of was. I kind of came in.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I mean, he had a short career anyway. But at
- 9:37Speaker 1: the same time, you know, I kind of didn't realize
- 9:39Speaker 1: or understand why he died, you know, because I was
- 9:41Speaker 1: a kid. Um. I know you have a story to
- 9:44Speaker 1: tell us about you in the studio with Biggie or
- 9:48Speaker 1: come on, man, give us some Yeah. Yeah, I mean,
- 9:50Speaker 1: let's let's let's let's talk about I almost didn't make. Um,
- 9:54Speaker 1: I almost didn't make Life after Death. Um. At that
- 9:58Speaker 1: particular time for me, I was work and on my artists.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I had an artist signed the Effort. It's a guy
- 10:03Speaker 1: named Frankie. And I was just trying to devote my time,
- 10:06Speaker 1: you know, watching Pump and seeing how much Heed to
- 10:09Speaker 1: vote at his time in the building this company. I
- 10:11Speaker 1: wanted to put that same energy into mine, you know.
- 10:14Speaker 1: And at that time I was just focused on that,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and I had went into the studio. I think I
- 10:19Speaker 1: went to Daddy's house to grab something and Big was
- 10:22Speaker 1: in the other room. He sent somebody in there to
- 10:25Speaker 1: talk to me, like you're big one. The haul is
- 10:27Speaker 1: shoot and say okay, So I go in there. This
- 10:30Speaker 1: is right after the accident, sees he got the cane
- 10:32Speaker 1: and all that. So I walked in. He's like, yo,
- 10:35Speaker 1: what's up man, You ain't doing nothing on my album,
- 10:37Speaker 1: like he was closing out the Life After Death album.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So I was like, no, I even like that. He said,
- 10:43Speaker 1: come on you. I was like, first off, you got
- 10:46Speaker 1: one of the biggest records on my last album, so
- 10:48Speaker 1: it's gonna look real funny that you don't have nothing
- 10:50Speaker 1: on this. So I'm about to take offense if you don't.
- 10:53Speaker 1: You know, if you don't jump on this record, we
- 10:56Speaker 1: might have me issues. So I you know, he's that
- 11:00Speaker 1: real that he pulled me up, you know what I mean.
- 11:02Speaker 1: So I said, cool, let me let me finally sit
- 11:05Speaker 1: with Puff and kind of here what what was happening?
- 11:08Speaker 1: And he played me a bunch of records and he
- 11:10Speaker 1: played Storytell and if you go online, it's an original
- 11:14Speaker 1: version of it um and they couldn't clear that sample.
- 11:18Speaker 1: So I was like, okay, so that's my end, I
- 11:20Speaker 1: was saying. So I was I'll replay this sample. And
- 11:23Speaker 1: get us through the door. So I basically it was
- 11:25Speaker 1: it was a night of the Grammys. I'm in the
- 11:28Speaker 1: studio with a big boats I on, you know what
- 11:30Speaker 1: I mean, like just finishing it up because they're closing
- 11:33Speaker 1: it out. If it doesn't happen tonight, it's not gonna happen.
- 11:36Speaker 1: So I finished that up. And you know the sad
- 11:39Speaker 1: part is I never really got to talk to Big
- 11:42Speaker 1: to see how he felt about it, you know, but
- 11:44Speaker 1: I know it made the record, so um you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: all of that stuff kicked in like like right after
- 11:51Speaker 1: you know, um man that story to tell kid flow down.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Remember that's one, Remember that one? So chucky. At the time,
- 12:04Speaker 1: did you know that you were working with not only
- 12:08Speaker 1: classic music, but classic artists? I mean, yeah, It's like
- 12:13Speaker 1: it's funny with me because I get personal with people,
- 12:17Speaker 1: you know. When you know Big and and we used
- 12:20Speaker 1: to hang out all the time, you know what I mean.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I remember him having issues with Safe. You know what
- 12:26Speaker 1: I'm saying, I'm coming to be like dope, I want
- 12:29Speaker 1: to fix my marriage Joe, And I'm like, come on, man,
- 12:31Speaker 1: you out here and how are home coming? Going nuts?
- 12:34Speaker 1: And you're tik about fixing your marriage. Come on church,
- 12:37Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So going nuts? Like how
- 12:40Speaker 1: I mean, he was big. You've seen what it was
- 12:43Speaker 1: he you know he was a gym or not. I
- 12:45Speaker 1: mean big was I mean he got married because he
- 12:50Speaker 1: loved her, but he was big because he was big.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So it was just you know, he was that player.
- 12:57Speaker 1: He had that in them, you know what I mean.
- 12:58Speaker 1: And and and that's was the thing that broke them up.
- 13:02Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, that that's the part that
- 13:04Speaker 1: that killed it. But you know, I'm I'm hearing all
- 13:07Speaker 1: of these stories and I'm catching the vibe. So, like
- 13:09Speaker 1: I said, I was around, I was around people in
- 13:12Speaker 1: different lights. You know. USh it was only what seventeen
- 13:16Speaker 1: and something crazy, you know, But he was in the house,
- 13:19Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Mary, you would hang with
- 13:21Speaker 1: her and we're having so much fun. And then she
- 13:24Speaker 1: get on the microphone and then we realized, Wait, aut
- 13:27Speaker 1: job was hanging with Mary. You know what I'm saying.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Like I didn't realize it until I realized it. But
- 13:32Speaker 1: you could feel the part about them just being real people.
- 13:36Speaker 1: You know, if you if we don't know nothing else
- 13:39Speaker 1: about these artists, we liked them because of that you know,
- 13:42Speaker 1: and that's really what it was. Just being around family.
- 13:45Speaker 1: You know, puff created this energy where it was just
- 13:49Speaker 1: like young black up and coming like the next That's
- 13:53Speaker 1: all that was around. Is everybody that was a Craig
- 13:55Speaker 1: mac over here, like everybody around was on their up.
- 13:59Speaker 1: So it was it was a blessing to come into
- 14:03Speaker 1: a situation like that. Because it's question we all got
- 14:07Speaker 1: that vibe. Okay, question, if you had to give us
- 14:10Speaker 1: your top five and you know we have a lot
- 14:12Speaker 1: of listeners on the Ball the Show podcast, if you
- 14:15Speaker 1: had to give it us your top five of the
- 14:17Speaker 1: records that you had something to do with or do
- 14:20Speaker 1: you have a top five? Or is this is gonna
- 14:22Speaker 1: be hard for you to say. I mean it's you
- 14:25Speaker 1: know what, it probably won't be what most people would
- 14:27Speaker 1: think would be my top five. You know what, Let's
- 14:30Speaker 1: brag a little bit. Let's brag. Come on, give us,
- 14:33Speaker 1: give us, give us a list, give us about ten
- 14:35Speaker 1: records you have something to do with Bonnie and Sean,
- 14:38Speaker 1: with Sean, you know, can't you see what total Dey're wrong?
- 14:42Speaker 1: Would be one of my favorite records. Like I said,
- 14:45Speaker 1: I got records that people probably wouldn't recognize that they
- 14:48Speaker 1: need to go back and here it's a song called
- 14:49Speaker 1: rest of My Life with nas and the final one
- 14:53Speaker 1: would be Another one that most people don't understand is
- 14:56Speaker 1: Chuck Baby. I produced the record with Chuck Brown Soul
- 14:59Speaker 1: searches down here in d C. And um, you know
- 15:03Speaker 1: it's like a d C classes, you know. But I'm
- 15:06Speaker 1: super proud of that record. That's like total total record
- 15:09Speaker 1: was a big record. Yeah, man, I mean shot off
- 15:13Speaker 1: to Rashard Tumblin Dice he you know, it was like
- 15:17Speaker 1: a synergy around us, like it was walking the room
- 15:20Speaker 1: and just started working. So Rashard had something going. I
- 15:23Speaker 1: came in and added some pieces. You know. Puff put
- 15:27Speaker 1: the cherry on top of as Big to get on it.
- 15:30Speaker 1: I think he paid them five thousand longs to know
- 15:32Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But Big was a hustler, so he
- 15:35Speaker 1: snatched it. It, did it and done. You know what
- 15:37Speaker 1: I mean was family. So it was a lot of
- 15:40Speaker 1: a lot of good love back then. So Mary J.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Blige is in the spotlight right now. Heavy you know
- 15:47Speaker 1: she She's always in a spotlight to me. But as
- 15:50Speaker 1: of right now, my life celebrates the anniversary this year
- 15:56Speaker 1: the Mary J. Blige My Life documentary is actually out
- 16:00Speaker 1: on Amazon pime um. How is think that the fans
- 16:05Speaker 1: are going to react to this documentary and what does
- 16:07Speaker 1: it mean to you to actually be a part of
- 16:09Speaker 1: it to some degree, I think the fans are gonna
- 16:12Speaker 1: love it because it goes back to what I was saying, like,
- 16:15Speaker 1: she's a real one, you know she She's a super
- 16:18Speaker 1: real one, and this story shows you behind the curtain.
- 16:23Speaker 1: You know, we already see this Wizard of Odd story,
- 16:25Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, And what's out in front
- 16:27Speaker 1: is one thing. You go behind that curtain, it ain't pretty,
- 16:30Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. To keep up that that
- 16:32Speaker 1: look of what's out front. But she was, she was
- 16:35Speaker 1: so dope that she just said, you know what, that's
- 16:37Speaker 1: the best way for me to to to be able
- 16:40Speaker 1: to connect with the people is to just be as
- 16:44Speaker 1: real as possible, you know what I'm saying. And with
- 16:47Speaker 1: the crazy part about it was real painful for her
- 16:50Speaker 1: after the success of the record, because you think about it,
- 16:53Speaker 1: You're going through a situation that's probably the lowest point
- 16:57Speaker 1: in your life, and that was being broadcasts all over
- 17:00Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, and you gotta get on stage,
- 17:02Speaker 1: you gotta single for four and these these songs are painful.
- 17:06Speaker 1: So you know, I give a lot of credit to
- 17:09Speaker 1: her to be able to, you know, just expose herself
- 17:13Speaker 1: like that. You know what I'm talking. I'm talking about
- 17:15Speaker 1: some ugly truths in it, and this documentary it just
- 17:19Speaker 1: you know, it packages it up. It packages it up
- 17:23Speaker 1: for everybody that loves her to really understand, you know,
- 17:27Speaker 1: all that goes on with her, you know what I'm saying,
- 17:29Speaker 1: just from just being married, you know. Um And and
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'm I'm proud of it. I really like how it
- 17:36Speaker 1: came out, you know. I like the fact that this record,
- 17:40Speaker 1: I mean, for a time that we were just I
- 17:43Speaker 1: don't know, it's like being a somebody that builds houses
- 17:46Speaker 1: and you're just making sure to screws in the right place,
- 17:49Speaker 1: and you know what I mean, and then you just
- 17:50Speaker 1: step away, you off to the next house. But then
- 17:53Speaker 1: for people to come back and just look at the
- 17:55Speaker 1: house and admire and just see the art in the
- 17:59Speaker 1: work that we put in, you know what I mean,
- 18:01Speaker 1: It is incredible. Twenty five years of of of a
- 18:04Speaker 1: situation that took four months. That record was done in
- 18:08Speaker 1: four months, So it's like, you know, I'm I'm I'm
- 18:13Speaker 1: overwhelmed with I don't even know how to put this
- 18:17Speaker 1: right now. So I'm just happy and I want everybody
- 18:20Speaker 1: to just check it out, you know, and look at
- 18:22Speaker 1: it from a couple of different angles. You know that
- 18:25Speaker 1: there was a lot of it was a lot of love.
- 18:27Speaker 1: It's like when you look at the Motown story and
- 18:29Speaker 1: you think about all that love that went into making
- 18:31Speaker 1: those records. Puff took a page right out of that book,
- 18:35Speaker 1: and that's what we were doing. It was just it
- 18:37Speaker 1: was a lot of God around, you know, it had
- 18:40Speaker 1: to be for that record to turn out that way
- 18:42Speaker 1: and still be relevant, you know. So I'm happy it
- 18:48Speaker 1: is absolutely still relevant. I mean, I think it's I
- 18:50Speaker 1: think that that's kind of what makes a classical classic,
- 18:53Speaker 1: is that new generations to come can still relate to
- 18:56Speaker 1: the music and still feel it. I'm just happy they
- 18:59Speaker 1: let me be the canvas. You know, when when when
- 19:02Speaker 1: you're an artists, if you don't have a good canvas,
- 19:06Speaker 1: your paint not gonna stick right, you know what I mean,
- 19:08Speaker 1: something he's gonna be right. So that's just the part
- 19:11Speaker 1: that I feel like I played with that, Like, you know,
- 19:13Speaker 1: the master Chef, you know what I mean. But they
- 19:15Speaker 1: were they were the you know, they weren't agreed. They
- 19:19Speaker 1: just let me season and you know, let me do
- 19:22Speaker 1: my thing, and that kind of trust, you know, is
- 19:25Speaker 1: important because I was brand new, you know. She she
- 19:29Speaker 1: had a list of producers from the previous project, but
- 19:32Speaker 1: they all came in kind of you know, we just
- 19:35Speaker 1: sold three million that I that, you know what I mean,
- 19:37Speaker 1: that she just she's real. She's like, you know what,
- 19:40Speaker 1: I'm liking what this is doing. So if she asked,
- 19:44Speaker 1: puff would it be cool if we did the whole project,
- 19:46Speaker 1: It's I was only contracted to do one song, you
- 19:50Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, So it just flipped the whole script.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Likes Joe, she wants to do the whole album. Mean
- 19:57Speaker 1: what we were doing. They never met the talk about
- 20:00Speaker 1: with that. So that's how fast it happened. But I
- 20:03Speaker 1: mean because of that synergy of everybody just being around
- 20:06Speaker 1: each other. It's like, that's what made it happen as
- 20:09Speaker 1: fast as as it did and as dope as it did.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Like every day that raised was supposed to be on
- 20:14Speaker 1: My Life album. I don't know if you remember that song.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It was on the show soundtrack. It's a song called
- 20:19Speaker 1: every Day, and that was actually supposed to be on
- 20:23Speaker 1: the My Life album, but I think because the time
- 20:26Speaker 1: of them made of the double album, so then they
- 20:28Speaker 1: were like, you know, and then also Who Shot You
- 20:31Speaker 1: was an interlude on My Life album. People don't know that,
- 20:35Speaker 1: like Pluff went and got big off the street. It's
- 20:39Speaker 1: a Friday night, you know what I'm saying. So he
- 20:42Speaker 1: comes in, he shoots that that line, that rhyme. I mean,
- 20:46Speaker 1: he said something even crazier than that, Like he said,
- 20:51Speaker 1: he said some crazy stuff, and it was so crazy
- 20:54Speaker 1: that they were gonna they were gonna have to put
- 20:56Speaker 1: the uh, the parental sticker on her album if they
- 21:00Speaker 1: would have kept his version. So that's why they switched
- 21:04Speaker 1: it up and got Keith Murray because Bigg's verse was
- 21:07Speaker 1: so gangster. But look at the time frame. Everybody's trying
- 21:10Speaker 1: to think that he made Who Shot You behind that situation,
- 21:14Speaker 1: but look at the time frame that was before that
- 21:17Speaker 1: was before that was ninety four. It was like summer
- 21:21Speaker 1: ninety four that he wrote that. We will be right
- 21:24Speaker 1: back with more of The Baller Alert Show. You're listening
- 21:28Speaker 1: to a special edition of The Baller Alert Show. Mary
- 21:32Speaker 1: Serai Simmons and Sue so Long. This is special cloth alert.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Now I wanted I wanted to shift gears a little
- 21:41Speaker 1: bit um and we're talking very professionally. How is this
- 21:45Speaker 1: taken off? How is this success that you've had in
- 21:48Speaker 1: your lifetime taking a toll on you personally? I mean,
- 21:52Speaker 1: it's to me, it's all one and the same. Like
- 21:54Speaker 1: I don't I'm not a I'm not a famed cat,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So I'm all about the work.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I always try to let the work speak for ourselves,
- 22:05Speaker 1: and that keeps me in a real space. You know
- 22:07Speaker 1: that I'm I'm I'm I'm approachable. You know. I try
- 22:12Speaker 1: to look at every situation is as real as it is,
- 22:16Speaker 1: or you know what I'm saying, trying to get the
- 22:17Speaker 1: reality of each situation. So I don't, I don't know.
- 22:20Speaker 1: It's no separation to me. I try not to do
- 22:22Speaker 1: that because you you know, you start to create these
- 22:26Speaker 1: different levels and all that does and sometimes it will
- 22:30Speaker 1: bring you down. So I stay low to the ground,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I stay right connected to because the streets dictate everything.
- 22:38Speaker 1: This is That's how I always feel about it. If
- 22:40Speaker 1: they don't move in the streets it's not gonna move.
- 22:42Speaker 1: It's like the foundation. So I stay connected to that
- 22:46Speaker 1: type of life, like I focus on real people like
- 22:49Speaker 1: in my music, you know what I mean, not the guy,
- 22:52Speaker 1: not the guy in the suits, in the in the
- 22:54Speaker 1: offices and this and that, they're gonna like it if
- 22:56Speaker 1: the people in the streets like so always and that
- 22:59Speaker 1: was always be in puffs uh um connection to He
- 23:03Speaker 1: stayed in the quasions. I loved him for that. But
- 23:06Speaker 1: I always stayed in the street so he could always
- 23:08Speaker 1: look across the room and know the perspective I'm coming
- 23:11Speaker 1: from is to make sure that the everyday person respects
- 23:15Speaker 1: what we're doing. And thank you for that, because you know,
- 23:18Speaker 1: we talked about mental health a lot on our show,
- 23:20Speaker 1: and I like, I like that you said that, you
- 23:22Speaker 1: know you you stayed real grounded, because I think a
- 23:24Speaker 1: lot of people don't realize that when you stay grounded
- 23:27Speaker 1: and you keep you here low um, that helps your
- 23:30Speaker 1: mental state of mind as well. So you know what,
- 23:33Speaker 1: I was lucky enough to be crowned. You know, I
- 23:35Speaker 1: gotta give give a lot of things to the people
- 23:37Speaker 1: that that that were around that raised me. I came
- 23:40Speaker 1: up in a term where you know, you're doing stuff
- 23:43Speaker 1: in the street, You're gonna get checked. You know. We
- 23:46Speaker 1: used to bust bottles in the in the alley, just
- 23:48Speaker 1: busting bottles like food, and somebody came and checked that.
- 23:51Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, And that that that type
- 23:54Speaker 1: of community, that type of you know, that type of
- 23:58Speaker 1: energy around you is going to push you to you know,
- 24:01Speaker 1: try to succeed, because it's more to life than just
- 24:06Speaker 1: you know, doing doing reckless stuff, you know what I mean.
- 24:10Speaker 1: And I'm at the point right now I reach out
- 24:13Speaker 1: to these youngest I try to talk to him because
- 24:15Speaker 1: they need, you know, they need to see that there's
- 24:18Speaker 1: no difference. You know a lot of people feel like
- 24:21Speaker 1: you're old or you're young. Nah, even you fly or
- 24:26Speaker 1: you're not. It's not even a really old or young
- 24:28Speaker 1: to it. You know what I'm saying. Uh, Douggie Fresh
- 24:31Speaker 1: is still one of the dopest people that I know.
- 24:35Speaker 1: It's not about what record he put out, you know
- 24:37Speaker 1: what I'm saying. He can staying get drop him in
- 24:41Speaker 1: the middle of the street with nothing and see what happens.
- 24:44Speaker 1: He'll rock the whole you know what I'm saying. So
- 24:46Speaker 1: it's never really about an age thing. It's just about
- 24:49Speaker 1: what you know, how you know, how, what's your codes?
- 24:52Speaker 1: How how you working? You know what? What? What are
- 24:54Speaker 1: the things that matter? And a lot of people don't
- 24:57Speaker 1: really have those those codes. So it's it's it's almost
- 25:01Speaker 1: if you meet somebody, you talk to him, you just
- 25:03Speaker 1: just talk about life. Just get on a life page
- 25:06Speaker 1: and see what's happened. You know. I'm down for that.
- 25:10Speaker 1: So I wanted to ask you if Mary J. Blige
- 25:13Speaker 1: does a versus battle one, who do you think could
- 25:17Speaker 1: go up against her? And too? What would be the
- 25:21Speaker 1: first song that she should start with? Oh? Man, who
- 25:26Speaker 1: do I think will go up against her in a
- 25:29Speaker 1: versus battle? I know everybody off the top of sake faith,
- 25:33Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, just because of that, the
- 25:36Speaker 1: time frames and things like that. Um, But uh, with her,
- 25:43Speaker 1: I mean I'm all the way up there with Anita
- 25:46Speaker 1: Baker and all of that. Like for me, with her,
- 25:48Speaker 1: it's it's different things, you know, um, because she has
- 25:55Speaker 1: the soul about her, She has this like hood about her,
- 25:59Speaker 1: you know, and and all of these things come from
- 26:03Speaker 1: that place of just being in you know, being in
- 26:07Speaker 1: the hood and hearing these songs like those were those
- 26:09Speaker 1: were medicine. What I'm saying that that Anita Baker's songs
- 26:13Speaker 1: just record that ship was medicine. It's almost the same
- 26:16Speaker 1: as the medicine with my life out. So I would
- 26:19Speaker 1: I would, you know, I know that seems crazy to
- 26:21Speaker 1: say that, but I would probably go with that. I
- 26:24Speaker 1: would go with with Anita Baker with her Now, it's
- 26:28Speaker 1: not crazy. I actually think you are giving um an
- 26:32Speaker 1: opinion based off of some ship that you really know. Okay,
- 26:36Speaker 1: it's not crazy at all. Are the phone calls going
- 26:40Speaker 1: crazy now? With this documentary coming out and like the
- 26:44Speaker 1: resurface of one of the men who are responsible for
- 26:47Speaker 1: its success. I mean, yeah, it's it's it's it's like up,
- 26:51Speaker 1: you know, a little bit more than normal, but you know,
- 26:53Speaker 1: it's it's a lot of this. It's a lot of
- 26:55Speaker 1: the same people though, you know, it's a lot of
- 26:57Speaker 1: people that's been you know and know having me in
- 27:00Speaker 1: their prayers and things like that. So it's just been
- 27:03Speaker 1: a lot of reassurance that you know, uh, you know,
- 27:06Speaker 1: I was a part of something that I helped create,
- 27:09Speaker 1: something that's like, you know, a soundtrack for all of us,
- 27:13Speaker 1: you know, and and and it's here forever. I mean,
- 27:15Speaker 1: we just survived. You know, I put that in the
- 27:19Speaker 1: classic box with you know, the Oasy Brothers and and
- 27:22Speaker 1: you know, certain situations like that. So I'm ecstatic things
- 27:25Speaker 1: are happening, you know, just from that level. But you know,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I have, UM, I have some things that that are
- 27:32Speaker 1: in the works too, you know, that are about to
- 27:35Speaker 1: get ready to surface. Because one thing that most people
- 27:38Speaker 1: don't realize is the fact that I am from d C,
- 27:41Speaker 1: and d C has uh music in that town, you know,
- 27:46Speaker 1: is go Go music. The crazy part about it is
- 27:50Speaker 1: a lot of people don't realize how much Go Go
- 27:52Speaker 1: has played a part and pushing hip hop you know,
- 27:57Speaker 1: UM and and and just pop culture in general. You know,
- 28:00Speaker 1: when you look at Beyonce is one of her biggest
- 28:03Speaker 1: records was done by Rich Harrison, who I'm gonna tell
- 28:07Speaker 1: you off the top and his brain was thinking go
- 28:10Speaker 1: Go when he made that record. And it's that pocket
- 28:13Speaker 1: in that field. So I have a documentary coming out.
- 28:17Speaker 1: It's called Chuckie Thompson Presents DC Go Go, and it
- 28:21Speaker 1: basically breaks down, you know a lot of people don't
- 28:24Speaker 1: understand the music. They don't understand even what it takes
- 28:27Speaker 1: to make Go Go. Then it's also a big movement
- 28:29Speaker 1: behind it, you know, where it's the official music of
- 28:33Speaker 1: the city. And then also a lot of people in
- 28:36Speaker 1: the city they either deem it that Go Go has
- 28:39Speaker 1: been on or that it's a mainstay, like it's just
- 28:44Speaker 1: for the city. It's probably one of the only places
- 28:46Speaker 1: that you can go and see a true art form
- 28:48Speaker 1: still in its truest art form. And I just you know,
- 28:53Speaker 1: I took it as a mission. It's not the Go
- 28:55Speaker 1: Go story. It's my story with Go Go. People don't
- 28:57Speaker 1: even realize that my life. The song I was mimicking
- 29:01Speaker 1: a Go Go band in d C. I I played
- 29:04Speaker 1: that Royer's record like a Go Go band with Clay,
- 29:07Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So it's it's behind a
- 29:09Speaker 1: lot of the records that I've made. So you know,
- 29:13Speaker 1: with that being said, it's like everything is uh is happening,
- 29:18Speaker 1: and I think it's happening for a reason, you know.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Definitely for Mary, I really wanted uh. I want to
- 29:25Speaker 1: give a stupid shout out to her man because it's
- 29:27Speaker 1: it's it's just incredible that, you know, for a situation
- 29:32Speaker 1: that she was sad about, you know, and it turned
- 29:36Speaker 1: into all of this to realize how many other people
- 29:39Speaker 1: related to that sadness, you know, and the fact that
- 29:42Speaker 1: I was able to play a part in that, you know,
- 29:45Speaker 1: is amazing. So I appreciate all the phone calls right now.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I'm loving it. I love it, and we absolutely appreciate
- 29:53Speaker 1: you for coming to the Ball of our show podcast
- 29:55Speaker 1: before we let you go, Before we let you go,
- 29:58Speaker 1: we have to have you as a part of our
- 30:02Speaker 1: father mail segments. Go for it all, right, here we go.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna read it, dear Rory. My wife is terrible
- 30:11Speaker 1: with money. I have to hide money from her all
- 30:14Speaker 1: the time. I love her with all my heart, but
- 30:17Speaker 1: from managing money to managing credit, she's hella irresponsible. How
- 30:21Speaker 1: do I speak with How do I speak to her
- 30:23Speaker 1: in a way that won't hurt her feelings? Chuck, you
- 30:26Speaker 1: have to go first. I mean, in a situation like that,
- 30:29Speaker 1: you gotta be real. It's money, you know what I'm saying.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I don't think that that's the situation you should play with.
- 30:36Speaker 1: And I'm not saying you should scream and go nuts
- 30:38Speaker 1: when you're talking about it. But you also have to
- 30:41Speaker 1: understand where she may be coming from. You know, you
- 30:43Speaker 1: have to see the root of the problem. Why why
- 30:47Speaker 1: is she acting this way? What is it about money
- 30:49Speaker 1: that makes her? Actors? Right? And you deal with that,
- 30:52Speaker 1: you know, you try to figure out, Okay, you know what,
- 30:55Speaker 1: maybe you can't have this, but maybe we give you this,
- 30:58Speaker 1: and then after this, you know, you just have to manage.
- 31:00Speaker 1: But that that story rains and every household. You know,
- 31:05Speaker 1: I'm saying everybody has to deal with money, but it's
- 31:09Speaker 1: just you know, how real are you with it? Because
- 31:11Speaker 1: the one lesson that I learned is the money always
- 31:14Speaker 1: gets spent. You know, I don't give if you get
- 31:17Speaker 1: a check for forty million dollars, the money's gonna get spent.
- 31:21Speaker 1: The question is is what have you done? You know,
- 31:24Speaker 1: what's the plan? What's the situation? So I would just
- 31:27Speaker 1: say they just need to sit down and just, you know,
- 31:30Speaker 1: be real and then map out a plan. But be
- 31:33Speaker 1: real with the plan. You know, understand where she's at,
- 31:37Speaker 1: why she moves like that, you know, and trying to
- 31:40Speaker 1: try to meet the middle. I love because the reality
- 31:45Speaker 1: is some of us never had no money. So when
- 31:48Speaker 1: you get to a place where you have a little bit,
- 31:50Speaker 1: you don't know what to do with it, you know,
- 31:52Speaker 1: So I love Chucky's approach. Talk to or see what
- 31:55Speaker 1: the rule of the problem is, because she might not
- 31:57Speaker 1: be spending it just because she wants to. She may
- 32:00Speaker 1: just not know how to do any better. So I
- 32:03Speaker 1: definitely agree with R. That's it. You know, she might
- 32:07Speaker 1: be feeling like, you know, money is a band aid
- 32:11Speaker 1: for something, you know what I'm saying. So you just
- 32:14Speaker 1: gotta literally really gotta get into that problem. But what
- 32:16Speaker 1: is it that's doing this, Like, why are you doing this?
- 32:19Speaker 1: You know a lot of people don't tag me in.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Somebody tagged me in. Man, you know I'm a little
- 32:25Speaker 1: I'm a little rente game chop. This is to the dude,
- 32:27Speaker 1: Oh man, get your goddamn feelings out of or why
- 32:30Speaker 1: are you worried about how she feels? Bro her little
- 32:33Speaker 1: as down down and keep it to her raw and
- 32:37Speaker 1: funky so it stank when you talk to her. Bro
- 32:41Speaker 1: stop acting like, oh, I don't want to hurt her spinnings.
- 32:43Speaker 1: If you got damn goddamn, if you shed just spend
- 32:46Speaker 1: the rent money, this is a problem. She's a problem
- 32:50Speaker 1: if both. If your credit is good or her credit
- 32:52Speaker 1: is not good, this is a problem. Okay, by the
- 32:55Speaker 1: credit need to be on point when you sit down,
- 32:57Speaker 1: has thrill goals? Have a list. I am married to
- 33:01Speaker 1: an accountant. She saved my life, Chuck. When I met her,
- 33:04Speaker 1: I had a five ninety five. Chup. Now I'm sitting
- 33:07Speaker 1: next to you and I got a seven credits for
- 33:11Speaker 1: seven five for I say that ship with confidence. All
- 33:15Speaker 1: I'm saying is, she sat me down, and she wrote
- 33:19Speaker 1: down and we figured out the root of the problems.
- 33:21Speaker 1: So Chuck, you all right, we gotta figure out the
- 33:24Speaker 1: root of the problem. But dude, we are your balls,
- 33:27Speaker 1: that bro. I gotta speak to her in a way
- 33:30Speaker 1: that they don't hurt hut all that. When you do
- 33:36Speaker 1: stuff like that, you hurt your films. You know what
- 33:38Speaker 1: I'm saying. It's like, at the end of the day,
- 33:41Speaker 1: it's a team, you know. I always looked at it
- 33:44Speaker 1: like that. Some of the some of the dopest hustlers
- 33:47Speaker 1: that I've ever met. I'm talking about the Eights. Some
- 33:50Speaker 1: of their rules to the organization was if a guy
- 33:54Speaker 1: is not a person that uses his brain, I'm not
- 33:56Speaker 1: enforcing to use his brain. Like, if you're a person
- 33:59Speaker 1: to use your hand, I'm gonna give you that job.
