- 0:01Speaker 1: Line from the Skying You Center.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is the Kenny Report.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Thanks for joining me.
- 0:07Speaker 4: A huge news day today and we'll be all over
- 0:10Speaker 4: it for you. Two people are dead and others are
- 0:12Speaker 4: missing as the New South Wales flood crisis worsens.
- 0:16Speaker 3: I'll cross to the scene and bring you the latest.
- 0:19Speaker 4: Two Israeli embassy workers shot dead in Washington, DC in
- 0:24Speaker 4: a blatant active anti Israeli terrorism. I'll show you how
- 0:28Speaker 4: lies are spread to demonize Israel, and we'll speak to
- 0:31Speaker 4: an expert in the field and take the house off
- 0:35Speaker 4: the market. The coalition divorce is on hold. The Liberal
- 0:38Speaker 4: and Nationals leaders agree to restart negotiations and attempt a reconciliation.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I'll speak with National Senate leader Bridget mackenzie and have
- 0:48Speaker 4: my say on why they need to make.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Sure this works.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Also Alexander Downer, Tim Blair and Mark Nicholson on all
- 0:55Speaker 4: the bad news plus the good news about the Aussie
- 0:58Speaker 4: soccer coach. You showed the Poms how to do it.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Let's get cracking.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:07Speaker 4: We'll be crossing to the flood zone shortly as soon
- 1:10Speaker 4: as we deal with some technical issues up there. Because
- 1:13Speaker 4: the northern New South Wales, the central north coast of
- 1:15Speaker 4: New South Wales is in the groups of a dramatic
- 1:18Speaker 4: flood crisis, with two people killed and others missing.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Will be up there a short while later in the program.
- 1:24Speaker 4: But I want to start on the coalition and this
- 1:27Speaker 4: crazy divorce that's now officially on hold. There's been an
- 1:32Speaker 4: outbreak of sanity after a few days of madness. Just
- 1:36Speaker 4: maybe the Liberals and the Nationals can make this work.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Just maybe they can put the interests of the nation
- 1:42Speaker 4: of right of center politics and political accountability ahead of
- 1:46Speaker 4: their own largely confected political differences. I got to say,
- 1:51Speaker 4: you could sense some sort of reconciliation, or at least
- 1:54Speaker 4: the opportunity for it on this program last night. Didn't
- 1:58Speaker 4: you just need more time today? Didn't you just need
- 2:01Speaker 4: more time Once? Once Susan Lee names a front bench
- 2:07Speaker 4: where they're all Liberals, it's going to be very hard
- 2:09Speaker 4: for her to unwind that because to bring you back
- 2:12Speaker 4: into coalition, she's going to have to.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Sack a bunch of people. Well, we're in a hurry.
- 2:16Speaker 5: This was in a timeline that we perpetrated. It was
- 2:19Speaker 5: one that we were accepting in that season. Wanted to
- 2:22Speaker 5: form a coalition and to announce a shadow cabinet.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Have you and Susan Lee spoken in the last twenty
- 2:26Speaker 4: four hours to see whether there's a process, an emergency
- 2:29Speaker 4: process you could put in place to save the coalition.
- 2:34Speaker 3: No, not today.
- 2:35Speaker 5: I've got to admit I haven't had a band with
- 2:36Speaker 5: other than being studios like yours. We're optimistic that at
- 2:40Speaker 5: some juncture that we'll be able to get back in
- 2:43Speaker 5: with the Liberal Party and be a co coherent coalition
- 2:49Speaker 5: before the next election.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Yeah, let's hope that sooner rather than later. Thanks again
- 2:53Speaker 4: for joining us, David. Do you think we'll see this
- 2:55Speaker 4: resolved quickly? I just got a sense talking to David
- 2:57Speaker 4: Little Proud earlier justin that you know, maybe there could
- 3:01Speaker 4: be a quick sort of reprochment.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Common sense has cut through to give it at least
- 3:08Speaker 4: some sort of a chance.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Thankfully, Little Proud and.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Lee did speak today, and two important things happened. The
- 3:14Speaker 4: Nationals leader offered some sort of assurance about shadow cabinet solidarity,
- 3:19Speaker 4: which was crucial for the Liberals, and the Liberal leader
- 3:23Speaker 4: agreed to fast track the consideration of key policy areas,
- 3:27Speaker 4: which is of course crucial for the Nationals. So the
- 3:30Speaker 4: naming of shadow cabinets.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Has now been delayed.
- 3:33Speaker 4: They're going to have a crack at putting this show
- 3:36Speaker 4: back together again.
- 3:37Speaker 5: I had a brief meeting with Susan Lee and she
- 3:41Speaker 5: made an offer to reconvene her party room to discuss
- 3:45Speaker 5: the four policy areas that the National Party demand as
- 3:49Speaker 5: part of a coalition agreement, and I thank her for that,
- 3:53Speaker 5: and as a consequence, I have decided to send those
- 3:56Speaker 5: spokespeople home as a sign of good faith, and Susan
- 4:00Speaker 5: is a sign of good faith that will not be
- 4:03Speaker 5: announcing should I come it. This is a positive step forward,
- 4:07Speaker 5: one in which we've always said we'd.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Be productive and constructive.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Look, this is good news obviously. Perhaps they've listened to
- 4:16Speaker 4: the public. Perhaps they've listened to the wise intercessions of
- 4:19Speaker 4: party orders like John Howard, John Anderson and Tony Abbott.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Perhaps they're working out they need to trust each other.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Yes we can, because I can trust Susan and that's why.
- 4:30Speaker 5: She took a leap of faith today and took a
- 4:33Speaker 5: step forward and said that she's prepared to go back
- 4:37Speaker 5: and to bring her party room back.
- 4:39Speaker 3: So that's.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Now there's no guarantee this will work, but Parliament doesn't
- 4:46Speaker 4: sit for another two months, so they've got plenty of time.
- 4:49Speaker 4: They should hurry up, nonetheless, because there's something that David Little,
- 4:53Speaker 4: Proud and Susan Lee need to understand. There are millions
- 4:57Speaker 4: of Australians who feel desperately let down and even angry
- 5:02Speaker 4: about the performance of the Coalition. There are people who
- 5:05Speaker 4: believe very strongly in small government, strong economic management, free enterprise,
- 5:11Speaker 4: personal choice, personal responsibility, and strong national security.
- 5:17Speaker 3: And they feel the right.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Of center parties have lost their way and left them
- 5:22Speaker 4: powerless and voiceless. They think the election campaign was a joke,
- 5:27Speaker 4: competing with labor on unaffordable giveaways instead of running hard
- 5:32Speaker 4: on secure energy for our future or how to make
- 5:35Speaker 4: government sustainable in this country. These are, of course the
- 5:40Speaker 4: forgotten people that were at this core of Robert Menzie's
- 5:44Speaker 4: thinking when he founded the party. These are also the
- 5:47Speaker 4: Howard Butlers who were the key to the Howard government's success,
- 5:51Speaker 4: and of course Tony's tradees who swept Abbot into power.
- 5:55Speaker 4: The mainstream aspirational, hard working Australians who are being screwed
- 6:01Speaker 4: by labors, big spending, high taxing ways.
- 6:04Speaker 3: These are the forgotten.
- 6:06Speaker 4: People that the Coalition seems to have forgotten themselves. They
- 6:10Speaker 4: saw Peter Dutton give them hope, but then they saw
- 6:13Speaker 4: an election campaign that didn't have the courage of Coalition convictions,
- 6:18Speaker 4: and they need someone to start advocating for their interests.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Now it's time for the Coalition to sort themselves out
- 6:27Speaker 4: and get cracking. It's not as if this country doesn't
- 6:30Speaker 4: face enough dilemmas right now, they said to the mid
- 6:38Speaker 4: North Coast of New South Wales, now, because I send
- 6:41Speaker 4: the grip of this flooding emergency. As rivers rise to
- 6:44Speaker 4: levels not seen in nearly a century, a second body
- 6:48Speaker 4: has been found after a man in his thirties was
- 6:51Speaker 4: reported missing last night. Two people remain missing. Our reporter
- 6:56Speaker 4: Jim Callanan is in Foster. Thanks for joining us to Jim,
- 7:00Speaker 4: bring us up to speed with the latest.
- 7:03Speaker 6: Yeah, Chris, good to catch up with you.
- 7:05Speaker 7: Sadly, it has been a very long and deadly day.
- 7:07Speaker 6: Just another tragic reminder.
- 7:09Speaker 7: Of the situation that continues to unfold in large sections
- 7:13Speaker 7: of not just the Mid North Coast of New South Wales,
- 7:16Speaker 7: now the far North Coast, and now with weather warnings
- 7:19Speaker 7: are indicating that there is much more to come, perhaps
- 7:21Speaker 7: a lot further south let's just stick with Tari, where
- 7:24Speaker 7: we spent the day today and as you mentioned, sadly,
- 7:27Speaker 7: with the news that are local David Noel, sixty three
- 7:30Speaker 7: year old farmer who'd remained on his property to tend
- 7:34Speaker 7: to his cattle, had been in correspondence and communication with
- 7:38Speaker 7: Emergency Service.
- 7:39Speaker 6: Sadly he passed away.
- 7:42Speaker 7: There is now an investigation just how that came to pass.
- 7:46Speaker 6: And as you mentioned later today.
- 7:47Speaker 7: Confirmation a man at his thirties a bit further north
- 7:50Speaker 7: in floodwaters not far from war Hope. He was last
- 7:54Speaker 7: seen last night driving his car into those floodwaters and
- 7:57Speaker 7: he wasn't seen again until today, and sadly it was
- 8:00Speaker 7: because he was found by Emergency Service again deceased.
- 8:03Speaker 6: And you mentioned there are now grave fears for two
- 8:06Speaker 6: others as well.
- 8:07Speaker 7: So what has already been a deadly day, sadly, may
- 8:10Speaker 7: still yet get worse. In terms of the situation. There's
- 8:14Speaker 7: one hundred and forty warnings as it stands from the SEES,
- 8:18Speaker 7: some thirty four of those at emergency levels. Many of
- 8:20Speaker 7: those now are coming into the SEES or being issued
- 8:24Speaker 7: by the SS on the far North coast. Given Tari
- 8:29Speaker 7: has had an absolute deluge and we saw those pictures
- 8:33Speaker 7: of the manning breaking its banks at record levels. The situation, unfortunately,
- 8:37Speaker 7: is now becoming a little bit similar a bit further north,
- 8:41Speaker 7: as places like Kempsey and bellig and lower parts of
- 8:44Speaker 7: Port Macquarie and even just south of graft And now
- 8:48Speaker 7: cope with this immense rain a third of the annual rainfall.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Literally in a few days around the Tari area in
- 8:56Speaker 6: the mid North coast.
- 8:57Speaker 7: We managed to take a boat ride care of the
- 8:59Speaker 7: VA rescue team as close as we could to the
- 9:02Speaker 7: one of the main bridges to get into town. We
- 9:05Speaker 7: got to the steps of that bridge that was half
- 9:09Speaker 7: a kilometer away in the waters. So the river had
- 9:13Speaker 7: broken its banks and moved some distance never seen before
- 9:17Speaker 7: by the locals there in Tarreine. As we know, it's
- 9:20Speaker 7: also had trader consequences for some other local It's going
- 9:23Speaker 7: to have long term effects for a lot of the
- 9:25Speaker 7: locals now too, Chris, particularly the businesses in and all
- 9:28Speaker 7: the farmers and graysies on the outskirts.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Absolutely, but they got a lot to get through before
- 9:32Speaker 4: they could even deal with those long term consequences.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Jim.
- 9:35Speaker 4: You mentioned, of course, the younger man who's known to
- 9:38Speaker 4: have been killed.
- 9:39Speaker 3: The man in his thirties.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Police report to emergency services report that he was seen
- 9:43Speaker 4: trying to drive through floodwaters. Obviously, all the emergency services
- 9:47Speaker 4: are warning people not to attempt to do this. Do
- 9:50Speaker 4: not drive through floodwaters. So I just want to reiterate
- 9:53Speaker 4: that warning. But Jim, you know this area very well,
- 9:56Speaker 4: you know the landscape.
- 9:57Speaker 3: And you know the people of the area.
- 10:00Speaker 4: The difficulty here is everybody's chipping in, and you've been
- 10:03Speaker 4: speaking to people this afternoon where whole families are chipping
- 10:06Speaker 4: in and eager to do what they can. But the
- 10:08Speaker 4: problem is this is going to get worse is and
- 10:10Speaker 4: it with the forecast and more rainfall, we're looking for
- 10:12Speaker 4: an increasingly difficult situation over the next twenty.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Four to forty eight hours.
- 10:19Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a good point you makee We spent a
- 10:21Speaker 7: lot of the afternoon actually at an area command.
- 10:25Speaker 6: Effectively it was the local council chambers. The car park
- 10:28Speaker 6: had no cars in it.
- 10:29Speaker 7: It was a landing strip for some of the nine
- 10:31Speaker 7: aircraft that they have running on a twenty four hour basis.
- 10:35Speaker 7: Thinking pole there, you're thinking the local Westpac rescue helicopter.
- 10:39Speaker 7: The RFS had their own units airlifting people to safety,
- 10:44Speaker 7: and we saw some of those stories in amongst.
- 10:46Speaker 6: All the tragedy crease and you.
- 10:48Speaker 7: Quite rightly poured out the locals here they've seen a
- 10:50Speaker 7: lot of this before twenty twenty one, not all that
- 10:52Speaker 7: long ago. Some people still dealing with the impacts of
- 10:55Speaker 7: the flood. Now they're dealing with their worst ever flood.
- 10:58Speaker 7: But we saw some incredible scenes, some touch ones as well.
- 11:02Speaker 7: A couple Paul and Liz Brennan. They'd been stuck at
- 11:05Speaker 7: Oxley Island, a little suburb just outside of Tare.
- 11:08Speaker 6: They couldn't get out.
- 11:10Speaker 7: They were absolutely incredibly surprised and just the quick nature
- 11:15Speaker 7: of these flood boaters that got into their house.
- 11:17Speaker 6: They needed to be airlifted out.
- 11:19Speaker 7: And thankfully safely so they were pretty distressed at the time,
- 11:23Speaker 7: but they gave a really open account of what they'd
- 11:26Speaker 7: been through without power for some three or four days,
- 11:29Speaker 7: Chris not knowing when help was coming, but it.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Did come in a big way. And then a little
- 11:34Speaker 6: later this afternoon, a Cassie.
- 11:36Speaker 7: Lake, who was a local. He works for the Sea.
- 11:39Speaker 7: She volunteers for the SEES.
- 11:40Speaker 6: In fact, that's why she was isolated from a family.
- 11:43Speaker 6: She came in on Tuesday to lend a hand. She'd
- 11:45Speaker 6: stayed here to continue to do that.
- 11:49Speaker 7: And as it unfolded it became clear her own family,
- 11:51Speaker 7: including the poor children, were isolated on their own property.
- 11:55Speaker 7: Two days later, the West Back Rescue helicopter brings them
- 11:59Speaker 7: in and it was a great there's something about reunions.
- 12:03Speaker 4: Yeah, one, we'll see those pictures now. It was one
- 12:06Speaker 4: of those touching moments to see great stuff. Jim, appreciate
- 12:10Speaker 4: you bring us up to date and sharing all that
- 12:12Speaker 4: insight with us.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Stay dry, mate, We look forward to.
- 12:15Speaker 4: More of your updates, Jim Callen and there all over.
- 12:17Speaker 4: The situation for us up there on the north coast
- 12:20Speaker 4: of New South Wales just a shocking situation.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Stay tuned. The Sky News will keep you up to
- 12:24Speaker 3: data with it.
- 12:25Speaker 4: And please people, if you're listening in or on Sky
- 12:29Speaker 4: News radio elsewhere, listen to those warnings. Do not chance
- 12:32Speaker 4: your arm and drive through floodwaters. These floodwaters are getting
- 12:36Speaker 4: heading south as well, so the Hunter Valley and even
- 12:38Speaker 4: areas around Sydney are bracing for flash flooding and the like.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Let's get back to the coalition's divorce being put on
- 12:46Speaker 4: hold now, I want to cross across to camera and
- 12:48Speaker 4: catch up with the National Senate leader, Bridget mackenzie. Good
- 12:51Speaker 4: to talk to you, Bridget. This is good news. You're
- 12:55Speaker 4: being portrayed though by some in the media and some
- 12:59Speaker 4: commentators as as someone who helped to sort of get
- 13:02Speaker 4: the divorce started with some of your angst over what
- 13:05Speaker 4: was happening in the Senate.
- 13:06Speaker 3: And just sent the Namba Jimper price.
- 13:08Speaker 4: But surely you'll please that at least the two parties
- 13:11Speaker 4: negotiating again and trying to get it back together.
- 13:16Speaker 8: Well, Chris, I've always been a proud coalitionist. I believe
- 13:19Speaker 8: our country's best served by a Liberal and National Party
- 13:22Speaker 8: being a strong and stable government. We've done a lot
- 13:27Speaker 8: for our country over the last eighty years, and I'm
- 13:29Speaker 8: sure we'll do a lot going forward. But the reality
- 13:33Speaker 8: is our party room made the decision it did to
- 13:36Speaker 8: walk away on a very reasonable request that the leader
- 13:39Speaker 8: of the Liberal Party couldn't guarantee the four policies, And
- 13:45Speaker 8: thankfully today she has seen the light and she's calling
- 13:50Speaker 8: a party room to actually discuss with her colleagues whether
- 13:53Speaker 8: they can sanction our requests to agree to the four
- 13:57Speaker 8: policies around nuclear power support for the regions overcoming decades
- 14:03Speaker 8: with the Regional Future Fund and the Telecommunications asked. These
- 14:06Speaker 8: are not big asks, they were policies we all agreed
- 14:10Speaker 8: on only three weeks ago, and so we'll wait to
- 14:13Speaker 8: hear what the Liberal Party has to say after their meeting.
- 14:17Speaker 4: It's a no brainer to deal with those policy issues quickly,
- 14:20Speaker 4: as I've been saying all along. But the other breakthrough
- 14:23Speaker 4: today going the other way is apparently David Little Proud
- 14:26Speaker 4: has given guarantees about shadow cabinets solidarity. And this goes
- 14:31Speaker 4: back to ill feeling over the Voice because it was
- 14:34Speaker 4: just Sitto Namba jimper Price ironically when she was with
- 14:37Speaker 4: the Nationals, who with David Little Proud went out ahead
- 14:41Speaker 4: of the Liberals to oppose the Voice, and of course
- 14:44Speaker 4: that effectively broke up a cabinet solidarity that should have
- 14:47Speaker 4: been done internally.
- 14:48Speaker 3: So has that been ironed out? Is that going to
- 14:50Speaker 3: be no longer a problem going forward?
- 14:54Speaker 8: Well, that wasn't the reason we left the coalition, to
- 14:57Speaker 8: be very very clear, and David has clarified today in
- 15:02Speaker 8: comments to the media about the Voice and about the
- 15:06Speaker 8: fact that he thought Susan's request was fair enough. It
- 15:10Speaker 8: wasn't something that was put to the National.
- 15:11Speaker 6: Party party room.
- 15:12Speaker 4: I think it's important for.
- 15:13Speaker 8: Your viewers to know that the National Party senior leadership
- 15:19Speaker 8: team and our spokespeople around economics and climate and energy
- 15:24Speaker 8: and other portfolios met today here in Canberra. They flew
- 15:29Speaker 8: in last night from around the country to really get
- 15:32Speaker 8: on with the business of representing rural and regional Australia.
- 15:35Speaker 8: And I think that's what your viewers will want us
- 15:38Speaker 8: to do. Instead of naval gazing and bickering about the
- 15:42Speaker 8: spoils of what was an emphatic election defeat, we need
- 15:46Speaker 8: to get on with actually standing up for the people
- 15:48Speaker 8: that sent us here to Canberra, while a Liberal party
- 15:51Speaker 8: sought out whatever they're going to do, it's up to them,
- 15:55Speaker 8: but we're going to get on with representing people.
- 15:57Speaker 4: You must have been reading my mind because you've sort
- 15:59Speaker 4: of ended my next question, but it's worth pointing out
- 16:02Speaker 4: that you had your senior team meeting in Canberra today.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Susan Lee was going to announce a shadow cabinet, but
- 16:09Speaker 4: all those announcements and roles have been put on the
- 16:12Speaker 4: hold to see if the coalition can't be put back
- 16:14Speaker 4: together again. Yes, and my question was going to be
- 16:17Speaker 4: about this. Our people, especially those people who have voted
- 16:21Speaker 4: for the Nationals and the Liberals, who are desperate to
- 16:23Speaker 4: see a labor government held to account. They want to
- 16:26Speaker 4: see you talking about the cost of living, about securing
- 16:29Speaker 4: our energy future, about our national security, not talking about yourselves.
- 16:34Speaker 8: One, Chris, and that's why David rang our spokespeople yesterday
- 16:41Speaker 8: when it was clear that we weren't getting into the
- 16:44Speaker 8: coalition agreement, got them to fly down to Canberra last
- 16:48Speaker 8: night and we had a really productive meeting this morning
- 16:52Speaker 8: until Susan Lay texted our leader and asked for a
- 16:56Speaker 8: quick meeting. We were getting on with exactly what you're
- 16:59Speaker 8: talking about, mapping out an economic agenda, mapping out how
- 17:03Speaker 8: we take it up to labor and address their legislation,
- 17:06Speaker 8: any amendments we need to move etc. So we're excited
- 17:10Speaker 8: about getting on with the business of holding Labor to
- 17:13Speaker 8: account on behalf of not just Regional Australia, but everybody
- 17:17Speaker 8: that supports the National Party and our values, and we
- 17:21Speaker 8: won't take a backward step in doing that irrespective of
- 17:23Speaker 8: what happens with the coalition agreement.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Thanks for joining us, Bridget Bridget mackenzie. There the National
- 17:29Speaker 4: Senate leader. Hopefully Susan Lee was watching this show last night,
- 17:32Speaker 4: because I was staggered to hear from David Little Brown
- 17:35Speaker 4: that he and Susan Lee hadn't spoken in twenty four
- 17:37Speaker 4: hours in some attempt to patch it up. They did,
- 17:40Speaker 4: of course, as we all know, the next morning, this morning,
- 17:43Speaker 4: and the deal is now being renegotiated. Let's hope they
- 17:47Speaker 4: can bring it home.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Now we're going to take a break.
- 17:49Speaker 4: On the other side of that, I'm going to show
- 17:50Speaker 4: you how lies are spread to demonize Israel, and we'll
- 17:53Speaker 4: speak to an expert in the field. This is in
- 17:55Speaker 4: the wake also of that shocking terrorist murder in Washington,
- 17:59Speaker 4: d Now, a shocking case of Adie Israeli terrorism has
- 18:07Speaker 4: seen two Israeli embassy staffers gunned down and killed.
- 18:13Speaker 3: In the middle of Washington, d C.
- 18:15Speaker 4: Today.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Police report.
- 18:16Speaker 4: The assailant was quickly taken into custody and yelled free,
- 18:20Speaker 4: Free Palestine. It happened near the Jewish Museum as people
- 18:25Speaker 4: were leaving a function.
- 18:27Speaker 3: The man and woman.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Killed were a couple who were planning to become engaged
- 18:32Speaker 4: next week.
- 18:33Speaker 3: In Israel, we are a resilient people.
- 18:38Speaker 9: The people of Israel are resilient people, and the people
- 18:41Speaker 9: of the United States of America are resilient people. Together,
- 18:45Speaker 9: we won't be afraid. Together, we'll stand and we're going
- 18:48Speaker 9: to overcome moral depravity of people who think that they're
- 18:53Speaker 9: going to achieve political gains through murder.
- 18:57Speaker 4: This shocking killing has sparked top level response from US
- 19:01Speaker 4: law enforcement and government authorities.
- 19:04Speaker 10: We have a long history and a lot of practice
- 19:08Speaker 10: in our city of working with Jewish organizations around safety
- 19:14Speaker 10: and around protection. We'll be talking to all of our organizations,
- 19:19Speaker 10: from schools to synagogues to other organizations to make sure
- 19:24Speaker 10: we are supporting in every way that we can.
- 19:28Speaker 11: I spoke to the President of the United States multiple
- 19:31Speaker 11: times tonight on behalf of the President. His prayers are
- 19:34Speaker 11: with all of us, all of the Jewish community, everyone
- 19:38Speaker 11: in Washington d c our prayers go out. We have
- 19:41Speaker 11: the FBI, all of our federal agencies will work hand
- 19:45Speaker 11: in hand with you, Chief, as we have done, and
- 19:48Speaker 11: you mayor to do everything we can to keep our
- 19:52Speaker 11: citizens safe. We will follow the facts, we will follow
- 19:55Speaker 11: the law, and this defendant, if charged, will be prosecuted
- 19:59Speaker 11: to the full extent of the law.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Just a terrible attack and one that will send shockwaves
- 20:05Speaker 4: around the world and spread fear, including right here in Australia.
- 20:11Speaker 4: The anti Israeli rhetoric and the blatant anti semitism that
- 20:14Speaker 4: we've highlighted here since October twenty twenty three is not subsiding.
- 20:21Speaker 4: It's getting worse. Much of the hatred directed against Israel
- 20:29Speaker 4: is based on falsehoods, on lies, and hateful retoric that's
- 20:34Speaker 4: promoted by Hamas and other Islamist or anti Israeli outfits,
- 20:39Speaker 4: and too often the United Nations and mainstream media are
- 20:43Speaker 4: useful conduits for all this bile. I've spoken many times
- 20:47Speaker 4: about the lies and misinformation that pollute public and political
- 20:51Speaker 4: debate on the Middle East. Pro Humas propaganda is often
- 20:55Speaker 4: circulated as fact. Many claims that come out of gas
- 21:00Speaker 4: and are therefore directly from Humas are repeated as fact
- 21:04Speaker 4: by much of the world's media and many politicians.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Then these lines are used as.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Ammunition to condemn Israel. You only have to think of
- 21:13Speaker 4: those claims early in the war that Israel had bombed
- 21:16Speaker 4: the hospital and killed five hundred people, claims reported all
- 21:21Speaker 4: around the world, when in fact the hospital had been
- 21:24Speaker 4: hit by rockets from HUMMAS affiliate Islamic jihad, which by
- 21:28Speaker 4: the way, killed a much lower number of people. The
- 21:31Speaker 4: United Nations and its agencies are some of the worst
- 21:34Speaker 4: culprits when it comes to this sort.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Of fake news.
- 21:38Speaker 4: We know UN agency staff even took part in Hummas's
- 21:42Speaker 4: October seventh atrocities. I'll talk to an expert on these
- 21:46Speaker 4: UN matters in just a moment, but first the latest
- 21:50Speaker 4: shocking example. Have a look at this story that dominated
- 21:54Speaker 4: news bulletins right around the world yesterday.
- 21:58Speaker 8: We begin with a stark warning from the United Nations
- 22:01Speaker 8: Humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher, who has told.
- 22:03Speaker 12: The BBC that fourteen thousand babies could die in Gaza
- 22:07Speaker 12: within the next.
- 22:08Speaker 13: Two days unless AID reaches them.
- 22:10Speaker 14: This is baby food, baby nutrition. There are fourteen thousand
- 22:14Speaker 14: babies that will die in the next forty eight hours
- 22:16Speaker 14: unless we can reach them. This is not food that
- 22:19Speaker 14: her masks are going to steal. Now, we run the
- 22:22Speaker 14: risk of looting, we run the risks of being hit
- 22:26Speaker 14: as part of the Israeli military offensive. We run all
- 22:30Speaker 14: sorts of risks trying to get that baby food through
- 22:32Speaker 14: to those mothers who cannot feed their children right now
- 22:34Speaker 14: because they're nonnourished.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Now to the urgent warnings tonight about the humanitarian crisis
- 22:39Speaker 1: worsening in Gaza. The UN now warning that fourteen thousand
- 22:42Speaker 1: babies could die within forty eight hours if AID doesn't
- 22:45Speaker 1: reach them right away.
- 22:46Speaker 15: Today, the UN with an apocalyptic warning saying fourteen thousand
- 22:51Speaker 15: babies will die in the next forty eight hours if
- 22:53Speaker 15: AID doesn't reach them now. In a rare move, major
- 22:57Speaker 15: allies Canada, France, Britain condemning you Israel's actions as disproportionates
- 23:02Speaker 15: and pushing for aid to flu again.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Yeah, fourteen thousand babies to die in forty eight hours.
- 23:10Speaker 3: This is just not true.
- 23:14Speaker 4: It's a wild and erroneous claim and nobody.
- 23:17Speaker 3: Should have treated it seriously.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Did none of the journalists even stop to think about this.
- 23:23Speaker 4: I'm in sure it's a sensational claim, a great way
- 23:27Speaker 4: to demonize Israel, but really they actually believed that there
- 23:31Speaker 4: could be fourteen thousand babies in Gaza on the.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Brink of death.
- 23:36Speaker 4: It just made no sense at all. Yet the claim
- 23:41Speaker 4: ran globally. It was widely reported as fact here in Australia,
- 23:46Speaker 4: and anti Israel activists such as Antoinette latoof spread it
- 23:49Speaker 4: further on social media.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Yet with just a moment's thought about.
- 23:53Speaker 4: How many people are in Gaza, and how much food's
- 23:56Speaker 4: been taken in during ceasefires, and the aid workers and
- 23:59Speaker 4: the medical staff working in the territory, it was just
- 24:03Speaker 4: never a credible claim, and sure enough the BBC, after
- 24:09Speaker 4: reporting it, by the way, tried to fact check it.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Better late than never, I guess.
- 24:14Speaker 4: The BBC then published deep within its report the response
- 24:19Speaker 4: from the United Nations Office of Humanitarian Affairs, which pointed
- 24:23Speaker 4: to a report on food security that said there could
- 24:27Speaker 4: be fourteen one hundred cases of malnutrition among children between
- 24:32Speaker 4: six months and five years of age over the coming year.
- 24:37Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right.
- 24:38Speaker 4: It's an estimate, a worst case scenario of what could
- 24:42Speaker 4: take place over the course of a year, not forty
- 24:46Speaker 4: eight hours. A worst case scenario of what malnutrition, not deaths,
- 24:52Speaker 4: could happen to children if more food is not supplied
- 24:56Speaker 4: or the war is not ended over a year, and
- 25:00Speaker 4: that is reported as fourteen thousand babies being about to
- 25:05Speaker 4: die in forty eight hours. Shameful journalists, media organizations, bloggers,
- 25:12Speaker 4: activists and the United Nations ought to be condemned. They
- 25:16Speaker 4: ought to be disgusted by their own gullibility and their
- 25:20Speaker 4: own anti Israel and pro humas prejudices that allow them
- 25:24Speaker 4: to freely amplify such hateful and damaging lies.
- 25:30Speaker 3: If you look very carefully.
- 25:31Speaker 4: In certain sections of the media, or you watch a
- 25:34Speaker 4: show like this, you will find out the truth. You
- 25:38Speaker 4: will realize they've been peddling lies. But tragically, for most
- 25:42Speaker 4: people consuming most mainstream media, it's the lies and misinformation
- 25:47Speaker 4: that will stick, just like the lies about bombing hospitals
- 25:51Speaker 4: and now the lies about starving babies. These lies are
- 25:55Speaker 4: aimed at demonizing Israel. They amount to propaganda to help
- 26:00Speaker 4: the cause of the bloodthirsty Islamist terrorist group Hummas, and
- 26:05Speaker 4: as such they're only designed to prolong the war, prolong
- 26:09Speaker 4: the trauma, and kill off any chance of lasting peace.
- 26:14Speaker 4: And this stuff lights a fire under the powder keg
- 26:18Speaker 4: of anti Semitism. Let's now go to the executive director
- 26:25Speaker 4: of United Nations Watch un Watch. His name is Hillel
- 26:29Speaker 4: Neuer and he joins me live from Sydney visiting Australia
- 26:32Speaker 4: at the moment.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Good to talk to you, Hillel.
- 26:34Speaker 4: I know you've made a life's work at calling out
- 26:37Speaker 4: some of this misinformation and hypocrisy from the United Nations.
- 26:41Speaker 3: But this shocking story about fourteen.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Thousand babies effectively been put on the brink of death
- 26:48Speaker 4: by Israel is a classic of the genre, isn't.
- 26:51Speaker 13: It it is?
- 26:54Speaker 16: You know, indeed you showed the other notorious incident from
- 26:59Speaker 16: October twenty twenty three, when indeed around the world, headlines
- 27:04Speaker 16: in major newspapers, including The New York Times, the newspaper
- 27:08Speaker 16: of record.
- 27:08Speaker 3: That I grew up with as.
- 27:11Speaker 16: A reputable publication that would cross check facts and verify.
- 27:16Speaker 16: You know, we have social media and you know, the
- 27:20Speaker 16: Internet for just random lies and fake news, and we
- 27:24Speaker 16: trust that the BBC and the New York Times and
- 27:27Speaker 16: you had ABC News that these are verifying and giving
- 27:30Speaker 16: us carefully checked facts. And it turns out in October
- 27:33Speaker 16: twenty twenty three, about a couple of weeks after the massacre,
- 27:36Speaker 16: as you showed, this terrible lie went out Israeli Israel
- 27:41Speaker 16: Baum's hospital in Gaza kills five hundred people, and everything
- 27:45Speaker 16: was a lie. It wasn't Israel who fired a rocket.
- 27:48Speaker 16: It was an Islamic g had that was trying to
- 27:51Speaker 16: attack Israel and a rocket fell short within Gaza, didn't
- 27:55Speaker 16: hit the hospital, it hit the parking lot. Wasn't five
- 27:57Speaker 16: hundred people killed. Maybe it was a dozen. To this day,
- 28:00Speaker 16: we don't really know, but it was nothing close to
- 28:02Speaker 16: five hundred. The whole thing was a lie. But sadly, Chris,
- 28:07Speaker 16: there seems to be a demand in the world. There
- 28:11Speaker 16: seems to be a space reserved on the front page
- 28:15Speaker 16: or in the top story on TV news in so
- 28:18Speaker 16: many different mainstream publications. Israel kills innocence and you know,
- 28:25Speaker 16: here are wounded, bloody people about to die, died, and
- 28:29Speaker 16: Israel did it, and there seems to be a great
- 28:32Speaker 16: demand for that story.
- 28:34Speaker 6: Knowing that, we.
- 28:35Speaker 16: Would think that reputable news agencies would think for a
- 28:39Speaker 16: moment when they're given these kinds of lies.
- 28:42Speaker 3: And we just had this lie, as you said.
- 28:44Speaker 16: This un relief chief telling us that fourteen thousand babies
- 28:50Speaker 16: are about to die in the next forty eight hours,
- 28:52Speaker 16: and the whole thing is a lie, and it's quite shocking.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Can I just jump in on that.
- 28:57Speaker 4: It's shocking, It is shocking and so damaging, which is
- 29:00Speaker 4: the point I want to come to. Next to well, now,
- 29:02Speaker 4: to some degree, you can make excuses for the media
- 29:06Speaker 4: because it's a United Nations official saying this in very
- 29:09Speaker 4: clear terms. But it's such an outlandish number. It's such
- 29:13Speaker 4: an outlandish claim that all gen was sort of thought
- 29:17Speaker 4: to check that.
- 29:17Speaker 3: How could you suddenly have.
- 29:18Speaker 4: Fourteen thousand babies that are going to die in the
- 29:21Speaker 4: next to two days.
- 29:22Speaker 3: It's just implausible.
- 29:23Speaker 4: And finally when someone did check it, they find out
- 29:25Speaker 4: if there's based on nothing, it's an absolute lie. But
- 29:29Speaker 4: the corollary of this is sure that media want to
- 29:32Speaker 4: report this story. They're happy to demonize Israel. But the
- 29:36Speaker 4: damage this does, the hatred that this permeates through society
- 29:40Speaker 4: from people who hear this news, they never hear the correction,
- 29:44Speaker 4: so they really do think Israel is out there killing civilians,
- 29:47Speaker 4: killing innocent children.
- 29:52Speaker 16: Look, today we had a stark reminder of where this
- 29:57Speaker 16: kind of demonization and fann the flames of hate where
- 30:02Speaker 16: it leads to.
- 30:03Speaker 3: In Washington, d C.
- 30:05Speaker 16: As you reported, two innocent people Israeli staffers, a couple
- 30:11Speaker 16: that were about to get married. Staffers at the Israeli
- 30:13Speaker 16: Embassy were attending a Jewish diplomacy event organized by the
- 30:17Speaker 16: American Jewish Committee, one of the most.
- 30:20Speaker 6: One of the most.
- 30:21Speaker 16: Reputable Jewish human rights agencies in the United States, had
- 30:26Speaker 16: an event for young professionals in Washington, d C. Outside
- 30:29Speaker 16: a Jewish at a Jewish museum, and a murderer came
- 30:35Speaker 16: and went up to them and close range and shot them.
- 30:37Speaker 13: Killed them.
- 30:38Speaker 16: Young couple about to get engaged to be married.
- 30:40Speaker 3: One of them.
- 30:41Speaker 16: The man actually I saw on Twitter that he follows
- 30:45Speaker 16: me on Twitter. Very sad and the killer before he
- 30:50Speaker 16: was taken away. According to news reports, I saw part
- 30:54Speaker 16: of the video he said free, free Palestine, and apparently
- 30:57Speaker 16: he also said into revolution is the only solution. These
- 31:02Speaker 16: chants are the same chants we've heard just days ago
- 31:05Speaker 16: when radicals at Columbia University took over the library. We've
- 31:10Speaker 16: heard it for the past year and a half. So
- 31:13Speaker 16: these kind of chants is what the murderer was chanting
- 31:18Speaker 16: as he was taken away. And was he seeing the
- 31:21Speaker 16: news in the past twenty five hours, probably as you
- 31:24Speaker 16: showed it was on ABC News in America. It was
- 31:27Speaker 16: all over the place. Was this the kind of thing
- 31:30Speaker 16: that that was the final straw for this person?
- 31:34Speaker 3: Filled with hate?
- 31:35Speaker 16: You know it's THESS have to know by now. Yeah,
- 31:42Speaker 16: you're throwing a match every time you put out that
- 31:45Speaker 16: lies because people rightly or wrongly identified Jewish people with Israel,
- 31:50Speaker 16: and many proud Jews identify with Israel. But there are
- 31:54Speaker 16: people who are looking for scapegoats. And when you say
- 31:57Speaker 16: that Israel is murdering babies, for hundreds of years they
- 32:01Speaker 16: said Jews are murdering bebies. It's the old blood label
- 32:05Speaker 16: revived in new forum equally as deadly shocking stuff.
- 32:11Speaker 4: Thanks so much for sharing your insights. Hello, I appreciate it.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Hell El Noia there, who's with the executive director of
- 32:16Speaker 4: United Nations Watch.
- 32:17Speaker 3: This is the point.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Everybody can have their own political views, everybody can have
- 32:22Speaker 4: their own perspective on these events, but they can't make
- 32:26Speaker 4: up their own facts, and they shouldn't spread lies. And
- 32:29Speaker 4: when they do spread lies, they fan hatred and there
- 32:32Speaker 4: are consequences. Stick to the facts. Now, coming up after
- 32:36Speaker 4: the break with the latest on the flood crisis in
- 32:38Speaker 4: New South Wales, will cross up to.
- 32:40Speaker 3: That area again.
- 32:41Speaker 4: Also we'll have a look at Donald Trump confronting South
- 32:43Speaker 4: Africa's president in the Oval Office. Let's get back to
- 32:50Speaker 4: the flood crisis in New South Wales and police have
- 32:53Speaker 4: recovered two bodies from floodwaters. One is a man in
- 32:56Speaker 4: his thirties and the other a sixty three year old farmer.
- 33:00Speaker 4: Fears remain for two people who are still missing. Around
- 33:04Speaker 4: fifty thousand residents remain isolated across New South Wales mid
- 33:09Speaker 4: North Coast.
- 33:09Speaker 3: And let's head.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Back up to Tari and catch up again with local
- 33:12Speaker 4: business owner Jeremy Thornton. Jeremy, good to talk to you again.
- 33:16Speaker 4: You're on the program last night. How has the subsequent
- 33:19Speaker 4: twenty four hours played out? Obviously we now know there's
- 33:22Speaker 4: two lives have been lost, but did it get worse
- 33:24Speaker 4: or better in Tari in the interim?
- 33:27Speaker 17: Yeah, yeah, Chris, I think just knowing that we've had
- 33:30Speaker 17: two of our own pass away has really put a
- 33:33Speaker 17: dampner on things. It was a pretty horrendous day all round,
- 33:38Speaker 17: but we kind of hung out on the fact that, yeah,
- 33:40Speaker 17: the sees are doing an amazing job and getting everyone
- 33:42Speaker 17: out and getting those to safety. But to wake up
- 33:46Speaker 17: this morning and I was doing something with another media
- 33:48Speaker 17: outlet earlier on and they dropped that on me live
- 33:50Speaker 17: on It wasn't you guys, So that was nice, But yeah,
- 33:53Speaker 17: it was a real shock and it got quite emotional.
- 33:56Speaker 17: But yeah, unfortunately this is going to happen with such
- 34:00Speaker 17: an event like this, so very upsetting from that point
- 34:03Speaker 17: of view. But it's interesting as the day went on
- 34:05Speaker 17: and just putting that to one side and not going
- 34:07Speaker 17: down on it and belittling it at all. But there
- 34:10Speaker 17: seemed to be there seems to be a grief process
- 34:12Speaker 17: we're going through in the area at the moment. And
- 34:16Speaker 17: as the day went on, from there being nobody around that,
- 34:20Speaker 17: we seem to just emerge a bit, more people emerge.
- 34:23Speaker 17: As the afternoon went on, we saw more out and
- 34:28Speaker 17: about the look. Some of the businesses can get access
- 34:34Speaker 17: to some of their some of their shopfronts at the moment,
- 34:39Speaker 17: but not a lot this hell of a lot of
- 34:40Speaker 17: water around.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Yeah, those deaths are tragic.
- 34:44Speaker 4: The sixty three year old man, we understand, was found
- 34:47Speaker 4: dead in his home as a farmer, But the thirty
- 34:50Speaker 4: year old man was last scene attending to drive through floodwater.
- 34:53Speaker 4: So I can't repeat that warning often enough. Authorities say
- 34:56Speaker 4: do not do that. So Jeremy, just the expect now
- 35:00Speaker 4: of what the next couple of days will bring, because
- 35:02Speaker 4: you're really at the mercy of these storms, and if
- 35:05Speaker 4: you get more water in the catchment, things aren't going
- 35:09Speaker 4: to get any better at all.
- 35:12Speaker 17: No, they're not going to get any better, Chris, And
- 35:14Speaker 17: we've had persistent heavy rain pretty much all day, you know.
- 35:17Speaker 17: About mid afternoon we just felt a bit of a relief.
- 35:20Speaker 17: There wasn't much rain around and the sky I did
- 35:22Speaker 17: clear for a little bit, but again, only about five
- 35:25Speaker 17: minutes before I came on air, there was a heavy
- 35:27Speaker 17: fall behind me and I couldn't even hear anything from
- 35:29Speaker 17: the roof. So there's a hell of a lot of
- 35:31Speaker 17: rains still coming down. And as we know, our friends
- 35:33Speaker 17: and communities up there around Maxville, Nanbucca and the Maclay Valley,
- 35:36Speaker 17: they're going through it right now, but they're sending it
- 35:39Speaker 17: back our way, so it's going to do that until
- 35:41Speaker 17: it heads down towards the Central Coast and Sydney. We're
- 35:43Speaker 17: expecting more rain over the next twenty four hours. The
- 35:46Speaker 17: towns still isolated, but totally isolated. I do believe that
- 35:49Speaker 17: Wingham can now get out through Gloucester Road. Don't quote
- 35:53Speaker 17: me on that, but I have a filling they can,
- 35:55Speaker 17: so that's good. But yeah, Tari itself still isolated. Apparently
- 35:58Speaker 17: according the CES, that's going to be at least twenty
- 36:00Speaker 17: four hours, maybe even forty eight hours. We don't expect
- 36:03Speaker 17: the water to go down fully in town for the
- 36:05Speaker 17: twenty four hours. Essential Energy is still working on getting
- 36:08Speaker 17: power back to a lot of the town and they
- 36:10Speaker 17: won't clear the sites because if there's still live power around.
- 36:15Speaker 3: They weren't there.
- 36:15Speaker 17: People who their businesses if they know that it's potential
- 36:18Speaker 17: of the shock. So we've got to wait for all
- 36:20Speaker 17: that to go through.
- 36:22Speaker 4: Jeremy, thanks so much for joining us again.
- 36:24Speaker 3: I appreciate Jeremy there who's joined us from tare.
- 36:28Speaker 4: The emotion of losing people in your own communities, communities
- 36:31Speaker 4: like that, even if you don't know the individuals directly,
- 36:33Speaker 4: obviously hits home to everybody. Let's hope we have the
- 36:36Speaker 4: authorities informing us soon that those other two people missing
- 36:40Speaker 4: have been found.
- 36:40Speaker 3: But so far two people.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Dead found dead as a result of this flooding crisis.
- 36:45Speaker 4: We'll keep you up to date here on Sky News.
- 36:47Speaker 4: I want to get back to Donald Trump now, and
- 36:49Speaker 4: he's confronted another world.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Leader in the Oval Office.
- 36:53Speaker 4: This time it was South Africa's president who was the
- 36:56Speaker 4: target over a spate of attacks. The ongoing problem really
- 36:59Speaker 4: of white farmer's being attacked and murdered in South Africa.
- 37:02Speaker 4: He is the lightest from Fox News.
- 37:05Speaker 18: The lapse didn't last long in the Oval Office Wednesday,
- 37:09Speaker 18: as President Trump sat down with South Africa's President Cyril
- 37:12Speaker 18: Ramafosa and confronted him over the rise of anti white
- 37:16Speaker 18: violence in his country.
- 37:17Speaker 12: It hashould be responded to turn the lights down and
- 37:21Speaker 12: just put this on it.
- 37:22Speaker 18: Trump played this video for Ramafosa, claiming it shows numerous
- 37:25Speaker 18: instances of people calling for the deaths of white South Africans.
- 37:29Speaker 19: Must nerve up his skirt to kill our government policy
- 37:35Speaker 19: is completely completely against what he was saying.
- 37:40Speaker 6: And do allow them to take land.
- 37:42Speaker 13: Nobody condemn and take the land they killed the white farmer.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Let's bring in the former Foreign Minister of this great country.
- 37:50Speaker 4: Alexander Downa, joins us this week from Beijing. Good to
- 37:53Speaker 4: talk to Alexander. Look, there's an issue here to be confronted,
- 37:56Speaker 4: the treatment of what farmers in South Africa, to be sure,
- 38:00Speaker 4: but putting it on him in front of the media
- 38:02Speaker 4: in the Oval Office is unusual diplomacy, to say the least.
- 38:08Speaker 12: Yes, it's unusual because normally what you'd expect is a
- 38:13Speaker 12: quiet word spoken off camera, and that's how diplomacy normally works.
- 38:20Speaker 12: But on the other hand, to have done that would
- 38:22Speaker 12: have been completely ineffectual. And so in defense of Donald Trump,
- 38:26Speaker 12: and I'm not always a defender of his diplomatic style,
- 38:31Speaker 12: this has highlighted an issue which is apparently a very
- 38:35Speaker 12: serious and significant issue in South Africa. Sure it embarrasses
- 38:41Speaker 12: Cyril rama Posa, the President of South Africa, but it
- 38:45Speaker 12: is a way of trying to get the South African
- 38:48Speaker 12: government to do something to stop it.
- 38:50Speaker 3: Now there's much happening in the Middle East again.
- 38:53Speaker 4: There is this shocking anti Israeli terrorist attack in Washington,
- 38:58Speaker 4: d C. There's continued spec about an Israeli attack on
- 39:02Speaker 4: Iran's nuclear facilities.
- 39:06Speaker 3: None of these issues are going away.
- 39:07Speaker 4: There's the ground offensive of Israel into Gaza at the moment,
- 39:11Speaker 4: and I just wonder, if I want to get your perspective,
- 39:13Speaker 4: Anthony Aberneze, he's fresh back from Rome. He's not been
- 39:16Speaker 4: to Israel since October the seventh, twenty twenty three. Should
- 39:20Speaker 4: he have included a visit to Israel in that trip.
- 39:25Speaker 12: I'm not sure about that, but at some stage he
- 39:28Speaker 12: should visit Israel. Whether he needs to do it right now,
- 39:32Speaker 12: I mean, he could have done it over the last
- 39:35Speaker 12: three years, and now he has three more years, he
- 39:38Speaker 12: sho should be planning to make a trip to Israel.
- 39:42Speaker 12: I mean, the Australian government needs to reconcile with the
- 39:45Speaker 12: Israeli government. There's Australian government's name is madin in Israel
- 39:52Speaker 12: for the very harsh position it took after the massacres
- 39:58Speaker 12: at the seventh of October.
- 40:01Speaker 20: There is a patch up.
- 40:03Speaker 12: Job that has to do with a country which is
- 40:06Speaker 12: a traditional ally of us.
- 40:09Speaker 4: All right, now you're getting away from foreign affairs and
- 40:11Speaker 4: I know you're a long way from Australia at the moment,
- 40:13Speaker 4: but I bet your phone has been running hot. You
- 40:15Speaker 4: must be pleased that the Nationals and the Liberals are
- 40:18Speaker 4: at least going back into talks to try and put
- 40:20Speaker 4: the coalition back together already.
- 40:23Speaker 12: So, I mean, I think the decision by David Little
- 40:28Speaker 12: Proud was madness really just to walk out of the
- 40:32Speaker 12: coalition like that, I mean, it plays completely into the
- 40:36Speaker 12: hands of the Labor Party. It discredits the whole of
- 40:39Speaker 12: the opposition. It weakens the opposition, and it's bad for
- 40:44Speaker 12: Australia because Australia needs a strong opposition to hold the
- 40:47Speaker 12: government accountable for the very powerful decisions it makes and
- 40:52Speaker 12: the government is almost omnipotent. Most of the state governments
- 40:56Speaker 12: of labor. The unions are part of the labor movement.
- 41:01Speaker 12: The Labor Party controls the federal Parliament. We need a
- 41:06Speaker 12: strong opposition, we need alternative views put and we need
- 41:11Speaker 12: questioning of the government. Otherwise we'll get end up with,
- 41:15Speaker 12: you know, corrupt and memorally corrupt governance in this country.
- 41:21Speaker 20: So splitting up the coalition, it's just madness. It's been tried.
- 41:26Speaker 12: Before in nineteen eighty seven. It was just it's just
- 41:30Speaker 12: a suicidal thing to do. And the National Party and
- 41:34Speaker 12: the true of the Liberal Party. But the National Party.
- 41:38Speaker 20: Walked out of the coalition.
- 41:39Speaker 12: They not don't think about how they will be able
- 41:43Speaker 12: to promote their points of view within the coalition, not
- 41:47Speaker 12: storm out.
- 41:48Speaker 20: And throw their toys out of the PRAM.
- 41:50Speaker 12: I thought it was I actually thought it was grossly irresponsible,
- 41:54Speaker 12: and they got better.
- 41:55Speaker 20: Media coverage for it than I thought they deserve.
- 41:59Speaker 4: Thanks for telling us what you really think, Alexander, I
- 42:02Speaker 4: appreciate it.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Alexander down A there.
- 42:03Speaker 4: Live from Beijing, weighing in on the coalition split. With
- 42:07Speaker 4: that news today though that the split is trying to
- 42:10Speaker 4: be repaired. There are negotiations on the way to try
- 42:12Speaker 4: and put the Coalition back together. Grin got to get
- 42:14Speaker 4: to a break on the other side, Tim Blair and
- 42:17Speaker 4: Mark Nicholson. As ever, on a Thursday, we'll talk about
- 42:19Speaker 4: some of these horror stories. So some good news today,
- 42:22Speaker 4: good news from an ossie.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Doing good things in Britain.
- 42:30Speaker 4: Let's get into the National cabinet now with Tim Blair
- 42:32Speaker 4: from the Daily Telegraph and Mark Nicholson from step Mate
- 42:35Speaker 4: Studios live from Melbourne. I'm going to start with you, Mark,
- 42:38Speaker 4: because I think Tim's out at the back chopping some
- 42:40Speaker 4: wood or something at the moment.
- 42:41Speaker 3: We'll get him up in a short while.
- 42:43Speaker 4: I got to get your thoughts on this on again,
- 42:46Speaker 4: off again the Coalition that the divorce papers were filed.
- 42:49Speaker 4: They had the house on the market, but they're going
- 42:52Speaker 4: to have another crack at it now.
- 42:55Speaker 13: Mate. Thank goodness, Christopher that popcorn was on special at
- 42:59Speaker 13: Colesley week, made only a dollars evening.
- 43:01Speaker 2: For a fullback because you needed it this week because
- 43:03Speaker 2: we're eating a lot of it. Although this, yeah, this
- 43:06Speaker 2: whole thing happened really quickly, but it's going to keep going,
- 43:09Speaker 2: I'm certain of it.
- 43:10Speaker 13: But there's a certain point where everyone.
- 43:12Speaker 2: Knows that politics is a circus, right, and they're all
- 43:15Speaker 2: just clowns performing. But there comes a certain point as
- 43:17Speaker 2: you're sitting there eating your popcorn, looking around, going hang on,
- 43:20Speaker 2: we're all the ones that are paying for this, Like
- 43:23Speaker 2: we're the only ones that are paying the tickets here.
- 43:26Speaker 2: And this is what's really scary. This whole thing's really embarrassing.
- 43:28Speaker 2: It reminds me of sort of primary school, breaking up
- 43:31Speaker 2: a little lunch just to get back together at lunchtime.
- 43:34Speaker 2: And this is not what conservatives do. As a person
- 43:36Speaker 2: who wants more conservatives in politics, this is not what
- 43:40Speaker 2: real conservatives are. And I feel like that's what happened
- 43:43Speaker 2: this last election. We didn't even run real conservatives. It's
- 43:46Speaker 2: not that conservatives lost this election. It's basically that Labour
- 43:48Speaker 2: run un a post. So I reckon, we want some
- 43:51Speaker 2: more nerds, We want more considered, careful, measured real conservatives
- 43:55Speaker 2: to just get back in there. Stop doing this whole
- 43:58Speaker 2: public display of unaffection or whatever you'd call it, with
- 44:02Speaker 2: a whole divorce nonsense. Get back in there, straighten up,
- 44:05Speaker 2: pull your heads in and give the country some real
- 44:07Speaker 2: conservatives again, because that's what we desperately need please.
- 44:10Speaker 4: Well, they're supposed to be the adults in the room.
- 44:12Speaker 4: I just want to show you what they were saying
- 44:14Speaker 4: earlier in the weekend, and this just bears out the
- 44:16Speaker 4: point your point.
- 44:17Speaker 3: I think, let's have a look.
- 44:20Speaker 5: The most important thing I want to say is this.
- 44:23Speaker 7: The National's door remains open, and our door remains open.
- 44:26Speaker 5: We remain committed to having the door open.
- 44:30Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 44:31Speaker 4: I mean so that both sides are saying the doors
- 44:33Speaker 4: open and they want a coalition.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Yet they went through all this kerfaffle this in the idea.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Actually shut the bloody door while you're both in there
- 44:40Speaker 4: and thrash it out.
- 44:43Speaker 13: That's exactly right.
- 44:44Speaker 2: I may shut the door, shut up, shut the door,
- 44:47Speaker 2: go away. Be a bunch of nerds, be conservatives again.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Get your ducks in line. That's what we want. This
- 44:53Speaker 2: is what we're running against here.
- 44:54Speaker 6: It was on.
- 44:55Speaker 2: I'm co concerned about what we've got with the head
- 44:56Speaker 2: wobbles going on at the Labor Party at the moment
- 44:59Speaker 2: as well, like the the arrogance that we're going to
- 45:01Speaker 2: see for the next little bit. They're hunkering down, they're
- 45:03Speaker 2: getting their ducks in line for what the plan is
- 45:05Speaker 2: going to be for what they think is six years.
- 45:08Speaker 2: We need a really strong opposition over the next six years.
- 45:12Speaker 2: It's three years. Please, we need to get you together.
- 45:14Speaker 2: But you need to just well I don't even understand
- 45:16Speaker 2: what the haste was all about.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 45:18Speaker 2: See, we've got to get it. We've got to get
- 45:19Speaker 2: a shadow cabinet going. We've got to get this going.
- 45:21Speaker 2: It's like, no, that's the problem. Get everything together, get
- 45:24Speaker 2: some facts, get a plan. That's all we want is
- 45:27Speaker 2: just a vision, just a vision, and that's going to
- 45:30Speaker 2: take some time.
- 45:31Speaker 13: We can wait. Just get it right.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah, get cray.
- 45:33Speaker 4: I tell you what, this labor what we are going
- 45:35Speaker 4: to have been so full of hubris that they make
- 45:37Speaker 4: even more mistakes than they made in the in the
- 45:39Speaker 4: first term.
- 45:40Speaker 3: And you talk about that arrogance.
- 45:42Speaker 4: We've got to got a sense of that today in
- 45:44Speaker 4: the press gallery in Canberra too, from one of the
- 45:48Speaker 4: green left types from the.
- 45:49Speaker 3: ABC, Patricia Carvellis.
- 45:51Speaker 4: You'll hear her voice, she won't see her in this
- 45:53Speaker 4: little clip of the press conference, but Patricia carr vellas
- 45:57Speaker 4: by identifies as a woman I've always known to as
- 46:00Speaker 4: a woman.
- 46:00Speaker 3: You can't you can't pin these labels on people any moreman.
- 46:03Speaker 3: She's a woman, and.
- 46:05Speaker 4: She plays that card very strongly in the press conference,
- 46:08Speaker 4: even though I'm told here three or four women had
- 46:10Speaker 4: asked questions before her. But have a look how this
- 46:13Speaker 4: plays out. It's quite illuminating.
- 46:17Speaker 13: What exactly good question?
- 46:19Speaker 12: I feel like a lot of blokes that have been
- 46:21Speaker 12: asking questions be nice if I could ask the question
- 46:23Speaker 12: trus your carvellos.
- 46:24Speaker 13: Thank you very much.
- 46:25Speaker 20: I've just observed this.
- 46:26Speaker 4: I'd actually like.
- 46:27Speaker 1: To ask you, David little Proud actually if you at
- 46:29Speaker 1: my bridge, I last year a moment because I've been
- 46:31Speaker 1: front of getting as you know.
- 46:32Speaker 20: In terms of the time frame.
- 46:35Speaker 4: Honestly, she plays the gender card. I'm a woman, so
- 46:39Speaker 4: let me ask the question. It's just six short she
- 46:41Speaker 4: cuts off the bloke and then to cap it all off, no,
- 46:44Speaker 4: and I don't want.
- 46:45Speaker 3: To talk to the woman politician.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Bring the male politician and he's the one I want
- 46:49Speaker 4: to talk to.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, just plays the gender card and then
- 46:53Speaker 2: oh sorry, Bridget, can you please move aside for just
- 46:55Speaker 2: to over please.
- 46:56Speaker 3: It is that's the whole.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Theme about the ABC is the irony is completely lost
- 47:00Speaker 2: on them. And it's the funny thing when you work
- 47:02Speaker 2: in an institution that's based on handouts. Everything's given out
- 47:05Speaker 2: to them. Everything they want, every sort of resource, every
- 47:08Speaker 2: piece of technology, every dollar is given to them. One
- 47:12Speaker 2: thing you can't get is respect because you have to
- 47:15Speaker 2: earn it.
- 47:16Speaker 13: And that's the problem.
- 47:16Speaker 2: And that's that's what you saw play out there is
- 47:18Speaker 2: someone who's screaming and demanding respect and then just doesn't
- 47:23Speaker 2: even have the cognitive band with to realize the irony
- 47:26Speaker 2: that was completely lost in just making the woman stand
- 47:29Speaker 2: aside after just playing the gender card.
- 47:31Speaker 13: Absurd stuff.
- 47:32Speaker 4: I just want to go to some breaking news now
- 47:34Speaker 4: and some tragic news, and the authorities have alerted us
- 47:37Speaker 4: that a third body has been pulled from floodwaters in
- 47:41Speaker 4: New South Wales. We brought you the news earlier that
- 47:43Speaker 4: there had been two confirmed deaths, the death of a
- 47:46Speaker 4: man in his sixties who was found dead in his
- 47:49Speaker 4: home yesterday and another body recovered today of a man
- 47:52Speaker 4: in his thirties. Police have reported they have now found
- 47:56Speaker 4: a third body, so three victims from this New South
- 47:59Speaker 4: Wales floods crisis and the last word there was at
- 48:03Speaker 4: least one other person missing. So heed the warnings, look
- 48:09Speaker 4: out for your loved ones, friends, family and community.
- 48:11Speaker 3: Members as this flood crisis continues, and.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Especially heed the warning from authorities not to drive through floodwaters.
- 48:18Speaker 4: Just confirming there the death toll has risen to three.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Because that's such sad news, Mark, I think we'd better
- 48:25Speaker 4: finish on some happy news, on.
- 48:29Speaker 3: Some good news for Australia. I think for everyone.
- 48:32Speaker 4: I'm not much of a soccer fan, I got to say,
- 48:34Speaker 4: but this victory that Aposta Coglo as coach has delivered
- 48:39Speaker 4: for the Tottenham Hotspurs in the Europa Championship, it's something else.
- 48:43Speaker 3: Here's the way it played out.
- 48:46Speaker 19: Glory doory to.
- 48:51Speaker 13: Pasta catru past delivered.
- 48:53Speaker 6: Has he promised he would.
- 48:56Speaker 4: There's so many competitions in this soccer caper.
- 48:59Speaker 3: Mark that he had to win one eventually. But it's great.
- 49:01Speaker 3: The Aussie charlam house done.
- 49:05Speaker 13: Mate, and there's nothing better.
- 49:06Speaker 2: This is a bloke that has been belittled and underestimated
- 49:11Speaker 2: for most of.
- 49:12Speaker 13: His career and you're going to think about it.
- 49:14Speaker 2: Sixteen years ago he was sacked by the Whittlesey Zebras,
- 49:17Speaker 2: you know, like a semi pro team here in Victoria
- 49:20Speaker 2: in the State League. Then to go all the way
- 49:23Speaker 2: to this and every time he's been underestimated that the
- 49:25Speaker 2: Zebras would be the brass of the Zebras would be
- 49:27Speaker 2: absolutely spewing that they let angepasta cooglu go because this
- 49:30Speaker 2: is this is a huge moment. There's a forty one
- 49:33Speaker 2: year drought for Tottenham.
- 49:35Speaker 13: It's just it's a miracle that even he called it
- 49:38Speaker 13: as well. He said that.
- 49:40Speaker 2: I might not win this year, but I always get
- 49:43Speaker 2: it Himo the second year, and he pulled it off.
- 49:45Speaker 20: Everyone rolled their eyes.
- 49:46Speaker 4: It's awesome, it's fantastic stuff. And he even managed to
- 49:49Speaker 4: chuck in an Australian political reference by quoting Paul Keating
- 49:52Speaker 4: from nineteen ninety three saying.
- 49:54Speaker 3: This was a victory for the true believers.
- 49:57Speaker 4: So well done, and we're all soccer fans tonight, well done.
- 50:00Speaker 3: We're just out of time out. Thanks for joining us. Mark,
- 50:02Speaker 3: appreciate your input, Mark Nicholson.
- 50:05Speaker 4: Then for step mate studios, Tim Blair, I hope you've
- 50:07Speaker 4: got all the wood chop mate. We'll catch up with
- 50:09Speaker 4: you next week. That's all the time we've got for
- 50:11Speaker 4: you this week. Tomorrow night, don't forget at five o'clock,
- 50:13Speaker 4: Denika to Georgio, she'll be in this chair too. All
- 50:16Speaker 4: next week, but I hope to cross to you as well.
- 50:18Speaker 4: A bit of a surprise next week, here's Peter Kridlin.
