- 0:59Hey you, well, welcome to today's show. We're paying to pick up
- 1:03right where we left off yesterday. We're talking about the Apostles Creed but of
- 1:07course, as usual, we will start with radio replies. And the questioner
- 1:15asked of the priest today, if miracles were so evident, I don't see
- 1:22how the Jews could refuse to accept Christianity. What the person is saying is,
- 1:27if Jesus performed all these great miracles, how could he have been rejected
- 1:32by the Jews. The person's essentially denying the divinity of Christ. Okay,
- 1:37it's a valid point, though, I mean, I mean this is a
- 1:40topic that will come up if you deal with apologetics. And they answer many
- 1:45a man knows what he ought to do, but it's another thing to do
- 1:49it altogether. They actually said, but to do it is another thing altogether.
- 1:53I am sorry. I'm dyslexic. My brain guesses its sentences. So
- 2:00a lot of times you don't know all the editing I put into this show.
- 2:04Let me just put it that way. I put a lot of editing
- 2:07into this show. I make sure it's right for it goes out because of
- 2:10it. You know, it kind of matters when you're talking about Catholicism,
- 2:15they continue. The Jews could not honestly deny that Christ was God and that
- 2:20his religious teaching should be accepted. Some did accept it, others did not.
- 2:25Even God would not compel these to accept the true religion, and Christ
- 2:30warned them of the guilt and their bad will when he said, he who
- 2:35does not believe me shall be condemned. We have to remember that a tenant
- 2:43really attended about the Jewish and Christian religion is that God does not force man
- 2:50to believe. He gives us freedom. He gives us free will. You
- 2:53have written recently from mizzi Odae about why didn't Jesus, Why did you speak
- 3:00in parables? Why wasn't he more clear? Why did Jesus not come as
- 3:05the Messiah? The Jews expected the king of the world, who was going
- 3:08to vanquish all enemies and do away with all evil. Well, if he
- 3:14had, everyone would have had to accept that he is God. By coming
- 3:21as a weak, helpless, humble infant from a poor family, suspected to
- 3:28be born illegitimately looked down upon, no one had actually any logical reason to
- 3:38believe that he was the Messiah. Only if they were open to accepting his
- 3:46miracles. Like you told the followers of Saint John the Baptist, the lame
- 3:51walked the death. Here the blind received their sight and sins are forgiven.
- 3:54Those were the signs of the Messiah, any of the great things that they
- 4:00expected. In fact, Judas may have been motivated to betray our Lord because
- 4:09he expected him to be a political figure, a ruler, a king,
- 4:16you know, whatever his motivation that that may have been. In Actually,
- 4:23so had Jesus appeared in all his glory and power, everyone on earth would
- 4:28have been forced to accept it. And God does not violate our free will,
- 4:31not until the end time, the final judgment. We are free to
- 4:34believe. We are free to choose, and you know, probably it's for
- 4:41worse, far more than it is for better. But yeah, even though
- 4:45he could, he won't. So the person says, most people who are
- 4:50Christians cannot give a valid reason for their for their faith. Will you give
- 4:56me a valid reason for your faith? It's kind of a sweeping state.
- 5:00I think at least most Christians I've known, well, granted where I live,
- 5:06most Christians I've known are basically Evangelical Protestants, so they will certainly give
- 5:11you a reason for their faith. I don't know, I don't know.
- 5:15I'm not sure why someone would actually say that. But you know, there
- 5:19are a lot of Catholics in name only Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi. They
- 5:24are Catholic because they grew up in a Catholic family, and they can still
- 5:27consider themselves Catholic even though they've totally rejected all the teachings of Christ and his
- 5:30church. And that's actually really not good. You know, that's a quick
- 5:38way to go to Hell. Let's just put it that way. Yeah,
- 5:42anyway, Yes, Historically, it is certain that Christ really lived, really
- 5:47claimed to be God, proved that claim by his supreme command over the laws
- 5:51of nature established by God, taught the Christian religion an obliged man to accept
- 5:58that religion. Topically, Christianity alone gives an adequate solution and explanation of the
- 6:03origin, condition, and purpose of human of the human race. Religiously,
- 6:10is it infinitely surpasses all other forms of religion and alone completely corresponds to the
- 6:15innate religious tendencies of man. That's very true. Literally, before becoming Catholic,
- 6:20I studied every religion I could find, Catholicism was my last choice and
- 6:29the one I didn't want to make. I know that may sound strange to
- 6:31you, but you know, uh, let's just say I wasn't the most
- 6:39moral person when I was younger, so I did not want to accept Catholicism.
- 6:45So I literally did explore nearly every religion in the world and all branches
- 6:51that I knew of of Protestantism before realizing that the only true religion is Catholicism.
- 6:59So you know, take that with a grain salt, believe it if
- 7:01you want or not. I'm a pretty smart guy, technically a genius,
- 7:08you know, according to IQ test. I'm not like bragging about it.
- 7:11My mom's a shrink, Okay, she's a psychiologist. I grew up with
- 7:15a lot of information and testing that other people don't have. I was actually
- 7:20used in case studies as a child to show what a genius child could do.
- 7:27Okay, So it's I mean, I'm not bragging. In fact,
- 7:30it's not always been a positive to be very smart. It really does kind
- 7:35of alienate you from your your your peers, your contemporaries. Seriously, and
- 7:45when I was in high school, I did everything I could not to make
- 7:50good crates basically just later on the smoke pot all the time. I mean,
- 7:55I'm serious. I was not a great guy at deb I was chasing
- 7:59girls and and just you know, so Catholicism that their claims saying that Catholicism
- 8:07is the superior of religion to all of the world's religions. I'm going to
- 8:13tell you that's true because I've actually explored them. I mean, I was
- 8:16a practicing dallast for almost a decade. What do you you say, what's
- 8:22a Dallast? Well, Daoism is the original kind of folk religion of China.
- 8:30It's what informs Zen Buddhism. It's what differentiates Chinese Buddhism. I'm gonna
- 8:37say Chinese, it's Zen Buddhism. There are actually two schools, at least
- 8:41of Buddhism in traditional Chinese culture. One is far more influenced by Hinduism and
- 8:50Confucianism. I would say both are influenced by Confucianism. Actually, which is
- 8:54is a beautiful philosophy. Actually, you know, uh can Feuchius probably would
- 9:01have accepted Christ as a savior had you know, they lived at the same
- 9:05time and he known of him and I would say the same thing of Lauza,
- 9:09the sort of historic mythical founder of Daoism. I would say the same
- 9:15thing of the Buddha. I mean, honestly, you know, Siddhartha,
- 9:18Sha, Kamuni, whatever you want to call him, probably would have accepted
- 9:24Christ's savior because of the superiority of the Christian religion. It gave them the
- 9:30answers they were looking for, and they looked hard. They were not spiritually
- 9:35lazy. I mean, the Buddha stood meditated steering at a wall for ten
- 9:39years solid, trying to find enlightenment. Lautza ruam the mountains and the streams
- 9:48of the most remote places of China, trying to find essentially the same peace
- 9:54that early Church fathers, the Desert Fathers found being hermits in caves. I
- 10:01mean, yeah, they really were not that far off. They just did
- 10:05not understand the one revealed religion which was given to the Jews and Binds.
- 10:16It's fulfilment in Christ. But yeah, you'll totally find tons of wisdom really
- 10:24in those three and the Native American most of them. Okay, you can't
- 10:30make a broad sweeping statement. The tribes are very different, you know,
- 10:35Cherokee took the Christianity right away because it was very close to their own religion.
- 10:39The Aztecs were eating people, okay, I mean they were sacrificing human
- 10:46victims to demonic gods and eating them. So you just can't make those broad
- 10:52statements that people say, Oh, well, the Native Americans believe as well.
- 10:54Yeah, okay, one tribe did, another tribe did not at all,
- 11:01and the same in Europe. The Germanic tribes were very barbaric, very
- 11:07barbaric, and amazingly enough, you know, thanks to Charlemagne and Constantine and
- 11:15all those guys, they were some of the first to come to Christianity,
- 11:20totally abandoning their pagan religions. The same with the Druids and Saint Patrick,
- 11:26the same with the Swedes and Norwegians. I mean, we can go through
- 11:30the list of the Turkish that really the early Church was very much centered around
- 11:39Turkey, and I mean Saint Nicholas, who were absolutely celebrating right now.
- 11:46It was huge in converting the Pagans of the Middle East to his charity is
- 11:54kindness, but his powerful, forceful preaching and the miracle he worked. And
- 12:00see that's the thing, the miracles really do matter well, anyway, he
- 12:07says. The priest continues theologically, I'm a Christian because God has given me
- 12:11the grace to perceive the truth of Christianity and to embrace it morally. I
- 12:16am obliged in strict justice to accept a religion specified and specified and imposed by
- 12:26Almighty God. See the revealed religion. Religion is actually an imposition, you
- 12:31know, but you still can reject it if you want. The person said,
- 12:37Christ did not intend his religion for you, He and attendant for Jews
- 12:41only, and that is an utterly bizarre statement. They answer. Christ was
- 12:46fully aware of the prophecy of Isaiah too too, that all nations would be
- 12:50called his church. He did not intend his doctrine to be preached for Jews
- 12:54only. He did. He did that his doctrine be preached to the Jews
- 13:01first, and only afterwards to Gentiles. For this reason, he told his
- 13:05disciples not to preach it to the Gentiles during the period preserved for the Jews.
- 13:09But Saint Matthew chapter eighteen nineteen, Christ himself tels the apostles go teach
- 13:16all nations. The person says that the acceptance of Christianity be necessary for salvation
- 13:22what then, of those who lived before Christ? It is a very very
- 13:26valid question and really only a question that only the Catholic Church can answer.
- 13:35Just really unknown to the majority of Protestant doctrine. I mean maybe Anglican,
- 13:41but you know, may be very traditional Lutheran. But you know, when
- 13:48was the last time I met an Anglican or a Lutheran who actually believed.
- 13:52Well, you know, Martin Luther, even though he was an Antichrist,
- 13:56even though it was a horrible person, had a strong devotion to the the
- 14:00Blessed Mother, blessed Virgin Mary. He you know, as bad as he
- 14:05was, his devotion to the Mother of God, which was very Catholic,
- 14:11maybe it saved him. Maybe he's in heaven. I don't know. I'm
- 14:13not gonna say. I don't judge who's there or not. You know,
- 14:18we know when saints are there because of the miracles that are performed. But
- 14:20I don't know what happened to him. He did have a strong devotion to
- 14:24the Blessed Virgin Mary, so did like all the Anglicans in the first two
- 14:30hundred years of the Anglican Church, their doctrine was still extremely Catholic. They
- 14:37prayed the Rosary. I mean the Anglicans did. I mean that was really
- 14:43big in the early days of the Anglican Church. You know what they believe
- 14:48Now I can't tell you. It's become modernized and liberal and Evangelical Protestant,
- 14:54rejecting everything the last two thousand years of history. You know, I can't
- 15:00tell you. So I don't know, but anyway, they say the merits
- 15:05and grace of Christ were applied by God to men of good will in anticipation
- 15:11of his death on the cross. God in his eternity is not conditioned,
- 15:16but is not conditional by time. He's not bound by the limits of linear
- 15:20time, and men could benefit by the death of Christ, just as they
- 15:24can make use of an inheritance which is absolutely certain to be given them in
- 15:28a due time. The merits of Christ were applied to Jews of good will
- 15:33and virtue of their faith, and that the redeemer in a redeemer to come.
- 15:37Those who, through no fault of their own, did not know of
- 15:39the redeemer to come were saved if they obeyed the natural dictates of their conscience
- 15:43and repented of their failings. Every single human being has the moral standard that
- 15:50what is apprehended to be morally good must be done, whilst moral evil must
- 15:54be avoided. And so the person says of Christianity taught people to be so
- 15:58good good, why did the early Christians meet with nothing but persecution? And
- 16:03they, of course answer, the more evil a man is, the more
- 16:07he resents the goodness of others. Every good man is a living condemnation of
- 16:12the conduct of an evil man. The Jews could not point to a single
- 16:18sin in Christ, yet they crucified him, and Christ said, the servant
- 16:22is not above the master. As they have persecuted me, they will persecute
- 16:26you. The quickest road to unpopularity is to refuse to do evil with the
- 16:30majority. The world has no hatred of its own, but the enemies of
- 16:36worldliness it hates. The early Jews and Romans hated Christianity for both people's feared
- 16:41that it would interfere with their comfort. Today, the Catholic Church enjoys this
- 16:47inheritance of antagonism, as does no other religion, and that is one of
- 16:56the great signs of the Church. It's like the ven Fulton machine said,
- 17:00if I want to find the true religion, I will look for the one
- 17:03that is hated, because that's what Jesus promised. I'm not going Joe Ostein
- 17:08in the megachurches. I'm going to the one that is despised by the world.
- 17:18So let's get into the apostles Creed, and we will start with the
- 17:22first tenant, the first point and well arguably the most important. I believe
- 17:33in God, the Father, the Almighty as fathers. Brogu says. This
- 17:38is the belief in the existence of a supreme being. We can infer from
- 17:44the created world around us that there exists a supreme being. We cannot see
- 17:48the souls of men, but we can infer their existence by a process of
- 17:52reasoning. So it is with the existence of God. The heavens and earth
- 17:56could not come into existence by themselves, nor could they heavenly bodies move through
- 18:00space by their own power. We infer when we see footprints of the snow
- 18:06that someone has passed that way. So we infer from the things around us
- 18:10that there exists a supreme being. The planets could no more have come into
- 18:14existence of themselves than a town could be built by itself. The astronomer Kirschner
- 18:19had a friend who doubted the existence of God. He had a globe made
- 18:23and placed in his study. His friend came to see him one day and
- 18:27asked where the globe came from. He replied that it made itself. When
- 18:33his friend laughed at such an answer, Kirchner replied, it could be.
- 18:37It would be much easier for a little globe like that to make itself than
- 18:41a great one on which we live. A light cannot kindle itself, and
- 18:45after it is kindled, it will go out in a few hours. But
- 18:48the heavens are lighted. But the glorious light of the sun, which has
- 18:52burned for many thousands of years, millions actually without losing any of its brightness.
- 18:56Look at the millions of the stars, who made them on calls him
- 19:00to illuminate the night. The psalmist truly says, the heavens declare the glory
- 19:06of God, and the firmament shows forth the work of his hands. The
- 19:10great astronomer Newton used to always used always to uncover and bow his head when
- 19:17the name of God was mentioned. Now did they teach it that in school?
- 19:22When you're in science class in high school and you learned about Sir Isaac
- 19:25Newton, did they tell you that he would uncover his head and bow when
- 19:30the name of God was mentioned. We may also infer the existence of God
- 19:37from the creatures on earth. Thus Job says, ask now the beasts,
- 19:41and they shall teach thee and the birds of the air, and they shall
- 19:44tell thee speak to the earth, and it shall answer thee. And the
- 19:48fishes of the sea shall tell who is ignorant that the hand of the Lord
- 19:52has made these things. I am. I wrote a gospel reflection from missy
- 19:57Odai yesterday, published on Thursday. I'll send it out through my newsletter of
- 20:02the Unsots for Catholic in which I basically said the same thing. I came
- 20:07to the conclusion that had I not grown up in the woods, hunting and
- 20:14fishing, hiking in nature, I would have far less knowledge of God.
- 20:22I'm not really sure where my path would have taken me, but the beauty
- 20:27and the order of nature, which can be absolutely horrific and violent at times
- 20:33as well. But when we see the beauty and the order of nature and
- 20:36how God arranged everything, you know, that instilled in me a devout sense
- 20:48of awe that you know, at the age of five or even younger,
- 20:52probably that resulted very much am I becoming Catholic? He continues, If anyone
- 21:03were to find a beautiful marble statue on a desert island, he would say,
- 21:07without any hesitation, that men had been there. If one were to
- 21:10say that the wind and rain had torn it from the mountain side and given
- 21:12in its form, we should count him as a fool. A greater fool
- 21:18is he who asserts that this wonderful world had no creator. The wonderful arrangement
- 21:22order of the world also leads us to infer that it has been framed by
- 21:26an architect of surpassing skill. If a ship sails on its way safely to
- 21:32its destination, we conclude that it had a clever pilot. To say that
- 21:36the stars of heaven of themselves direct their court courses is as foolish as it
- 21:41would be to say that a ship had started from New York, sailed around
- 21:45the world, and returned safely without anyone to guide it. Cicero said,
- 21:48long ago, when we contemplate the heavens, we arrive at the conviction that
- 21:53they are all being guided by a being of surpassing skill. In all that
- 21:59is upon earth, we see the traces of design and of a most wise
- 22:03designer in the construction of the bodies of animals and the bodies of men,
- 22:08the succession of the seasons, the trees, and the plants, the adaptation
- 22:14of means to ends in the human eye, the ear, the various parts
- 22:18of the body, all imply an adapting intelligence, just as the adaptation of
- 22:23a watch to indicate time, or the building of a house to shelter us
- 22:29implies an intelligent constructor. As it would be impossible that all the letters of
- 22:33the alphabet should be grouped together by mere chants of order, and the iliad
- 22:38be produced, so it is impossible that the arrangement of the universe could have
- 22:44come about by chance and without the knowledge and direction of almighty intelligence. All
- 22:51nations of Earth have their inner conviction of the existence of a supreme being.
- 22:56That's true. There's never been a traditional people, any tribe on earth,
- 23:00any nation on Earth before modern times that was atheistic. About a single example
- 23:10of any tribe of people who existed on our ten thousand years ago that was
- 23:15atheistic. And yet you know, your college professors and such will say that
- 23:21religion is imposed upon man, and that's complete our bs. All the nations
- 23:27of the Earth have an inner conviction of the existence of a supreme being.
- 23:30Among all nations, even the most degraded, we find invariably the worship of
- 23:34some kind of deity. We find towns without walls, without a rule,
- 23:40or without laws, without coin, but never without some kind of temple,
- 23:45without prayer, without sacrifice. Now, universal consent is a mark of truth.
- 23:51The belief in God is an inner conviction, which may be said to
- 23:55be inborn, inasmuch as everyone can arrive at it with the greatest ease.
- 24:00Only the fool says in his heart there is no God. That's from Psalms.
- 24:03Obviously, those who say there is no God in spite of the glories
- 24:07of creation which they see around them are those of whom Our Lord said that
- 24:11seeing they perceive, not in hearing, they did not understand. Such men
- 24:17men are called atheists or infidels. They are invariably men who either are eaten
- 24:21up with pride, or live vicious lives, or both. He who denies
- 24:26the existence of God, says Saint Augustine, has some reason for wishing that
- 24:29God did not exist. Atheists, for the most part, use language which
- 24:33is at variance with their real convictions. Many of them are the first to
- 24:37cry to God for help when they are in imminent danger. Their bold talk
- 24:41means they are not afraid. God will take atheists at their word one day
- 24:45and will show himself no loving God for them. So he took at their
- 24:52words those of the Israelites who dowed his power to give them a victory over
- 24:56the enemies and possession of the promised land. They die before they entered it.
- 25:00It's a reverence to a book of numbers of chapter fourteen. I believe
- 25:06the existence of God has also proved from revelation. God has at sundry times
- 25:11and in diverse manners, which a love the way father Sparrago wrote. I
- 25:14wish people still wrote that way. I don't talk that way, do you.
- 25:18God has, at sundry times and in diverse manners, spoken to men
- 25:23and has given them a knowledge of himself. To Moses, he appeared in
- 25:26the burning bush, and he called himself the God of Abraham, Isaac and
- 25:30Jacob. To distinguish himself from the false gods, he gives to himself the
- 25:36name of the self existent one, or I who am I am? Who
- 25:40Am? God is the only thing that exists outside of time, So the
- 25:45only one who can truly be at all times. So in giving the law
- 25:51on Sinai, he says, I am the Lord, your God. Thou
- 25:52shalt have no other gods beside me or before me, depends on the translation.
- 26:00I'd also work miracles at various times in proof of his existence, e
- 26:03g. By sending down fire from heaven and to consume the sacrifice of Elias
- 26:08and Carmel, and by saving Daniel from the lions of Babylon and the three
- 26:14young men for their fiery furnace. So we'll wrap it up there by the
- 26:17way, I have known a few priests who actually do talk that way.
- 26:19Month Singer Mon Singer Jeffrey Ingham and Father Dan down in Hartsville, South Carolina.
- 26:27Yeah, they actually talked that way. True intellectuals and very devout men.
- 26:34Anyway, y'all, let's wrap it up here. If you listen to
- 26:38show you know, I've talked about both of them before, So I'm gonna
- 26:41get into a lot of details. Fantastic homalists. I mean, if you
- 26:45can find either of them saying mass and view it online or go see him
- 26:49in person, go go. I mean I'm talking to living saints. Go
- 26:57anyway, y'all have a wonderful evening. Hopefully i'll talk to you tomorrow.
- 27:03I may have to go out of town, and if I don't make it
- 27:10back in time, I'll pick up on Thursday and try to do a Friday
- 27:14show to make up for it. So anyway, in the words of Saint
- 27:18Padre Pio, pray, hope, and don't worry and well. By the
- 27:22way, today's the feast day of our Lady of Guadalupe, also known as
- 27:26Our Lady of the America. So it's a wonderful time if you are so
- 27:32inclined to pray for America, Pray for Mexico, pray for the whole two
- 27:37continents. Everybody's that baby. Argentina is in really bad shape right now.
- 27:45I mean, Trudeau's a disaster, Biden's a disaster. They've got a communist
- 27:48in Mexico, El Salvador. Brazil, Oh my gosh, Brazil. I
- 27:53have friends in Brazil. It's horrible. So really good time to to pray
- 28:00for the Americas. Anyway, taught me next time, have a going
