- 0:00I'm James, I'm playing drums, I'm Pat and I'm on bass. I'm
- 0:05Mark and I'm the singer and guitarist and we are Fuming Mouth and we just
- 0:11put out a new album called Last Day of Sun on Nuclear Blast Record Records
- 0:15with some exclusive variants from Triple B Records. Oh Scott for joining us today,
- 0:22Thank you, Thank you all right, pleasure such you signed my fear.
- 0:26Mid Mouth recently released the lightest album, Last Day and Sons and that
- 0:29doesn't mean that long. But how's the only reception, babe? Good?
- 0:33For the most part, I'd say everyone has their own opinions. Though,
- 0:39Yeah, it seems like the live reception has been good. I feel like,
- 0:42you know, I've seen people singing along some songs and you know,
- 0:47reacting to the music. That's been cool. Oh tell us a bit more
- 0:52about the album from a musical point of view, guys. Is what you're
- 0:55actually going forward with it just something you know, really heavy, really brutal,
- 1:02truly metal, and you know, beyond just death metal, uh,
- 1:07into worlds of heavy metal, you know, and and belong both beyond that
- 1:14into some more like melodic territory that you might hear, but ultimately really bringing
- 1:19it back to you know, big bands like Judas Priest with great guitar solos
- 1:26and uh and making it more of a dynamic album than just you know,
- 1:33one low tuned, brutal death song after another. You released the singles I'll
- 1:38Find You in the Solence Beyond Lives, so just say, if that's all
- 1:42anyone's heard of the band, You say those two songs are good slight representation
- 1:45of the album, No, not really. I think it's really hard for
- 1:49like one song to represent the album, especially with singles. And that's because
- 1:53this is a concept album, and with like a concept album or it's a
- 1:59loose concept so you know, it's this kind of area where it's hard to
- 2:04really represent the whole album as one when it is kind of a front to
- 2:07back thing. You know. I think a song like out of Time or
- 2:13Postfigurement or the Sign of Pain might even like represent the album better than I'll
- 2:19Find You or the Silence Beyond Life. And this one's to you a bit
- 2:22more so March, But the album centers around your battle with the cute my
- 2:25alloid Luke Amian. So can you go into more detail as to how heavy
- 2:30to the album, Well, the album was written before that, but you
- 2:36know, in three weeks, you know, leading up to going into the
- 2:38studio, I got diagnosed with it. And it's one of those things where
- 2:44it just kind of became my whole life every day where I had to fight
- 2:46against it, you know, and you know, I went from being able
- 2:51to work to having to go and be in the hospital all day long and
- 2:57you know, totally changing my my life up. So it all of that
- 3:01impacted the record. All of that impacted you know, a lot of the
- 3:06writing. There's only one song on the album that's truly truly about it,
- 3:09and that's a song called Kill the Disease. Would you say I've rolled the
- 3:14album? Got a message of hype or despair? Oh hope. The whole
- 3:19thing is like, there's no other way. It's about hope. The whole
- 3:23thing is very dreadful. It is very dark. It is very looming.
- 3:29But just like the album art, there's a monster in front of the sun.
- 3:34The reality is the sun is still there. It hasn't gone away.
- 3:37It just you just think it is because there's a problem in your way.
- 3:40And the whole the whole point is it's kind of like a horror movie,
- 3:45like uh, even Nightmare on Elm Street. When they start to not think
- 3:49about him, he you know, loses his powers and then that's a similar
- 3:53thing. So it's all about once you have that hope, then you know
- 3:57you can combat that monster and overcome it and realize that the things that you
- 4:01love in life are still there. I think sonically that's represented in the song
- 4:06Postfigurement in this one guitar lead that the album was recorded with Kurt Baluba Conversion
- 4:12Our God City in Salem May That place has got a lot of history in
- 4:15so many ways, So how did recording there actually impact the final album.
- 4:19I think recording there was just one of those. It was in October.
- 4:28It was Halloween season, so there's tons of people around, so it felt,
- 4:31you know, it had themes from the album, like claustrophobia, too
- 4:35many people, you know, a city scape, and also Talloween, so
- 4:43everyone was dressed up, so it almost had like a kind of a creature
- 4:46kind of vibe to it. And I think just Salem, Massachusetts being the
- 4:54area of the Witch trials and I think that influences too. You started Feel
- 5:01of Mouth back in two thousand and third, endguys, so what was the
- 5:04musical climate like back then they gave birth to the band, and where did
- 5:08you fit in? Initially Few Mouth didn't fit in anywhere. Initially we were
- 5:15playing, you know, it didn't matter if it was hardcore shows, metal
- 5:19shows, punk shows. It really just like did not fit in. And
- 5:26you know, the band was lucky enough that there were other bands around that
- 5:29also didn't fit in, and we were kind of like island of misfit toys
- 5:32and we just focus on making good songs. And you know, as time
- 5:40went on, the years went by, I think the songs got better and
- 5:43I think it just actually started connecting with people more and more. What were
- 5:47your early goals in the early vision for the band and how have they changed
- 5:51into ten years since the only original vision was to put out a good demo
- 5:57of four good songs, like a good metal demo. That's really what I
- 6:00wanted to do at the age of twenty two, and I hadn't really done
- 6:03that, you know. I felt like I hadn't added to the cannon of
- 6:08metal at all, even in my certain way, you know. And that's
- 6:12the beauty of hardcore too. It's like it teaches you to do things on
- 6:15your own that you could be a part of this and I took that ethos
- 6:18and I really applied it to metal and that was it. That was the
- 6:23only goal was to put out a four song demo, have it be really
- 6:27really motor charged, one ripping solo in it. It had some clean parts,
- 6:32and beyond that just riffs home, you know, just rifts and rifts
- 6:38and rifts. And there was like no goal to be a big band.
- 6:44So it's it's funny you flash forward ten years and we're on Nuclear Blasts,
- 6:48They're the biggest label and metal and it's just yeah, it's it's definitely it's
- 6:57been a journey and it's been surreal since those early days. Man, ten
- 7:00years, it's a long talk in music days might say, what have you
- 7:04always learn about yourselves and your music ever that ten of age? Jenny,
- 7:09What do you guys think in the past ten years? For me personally,
- 7:14it's just going through the underground and meeting new people, you know, That's
- 7:19how I got hooked up with Mark and the guys. You know, it's
- 7:23just it's all community and you just kind of expand, you know. So
- 7:30over the last ten years, I've just been expanding in that way. You
- 7:32know. Musically, I meet other people that change the way that I play
- 7:36and feel and think, and it's awesome, you know. Progression. Yeah,
- 7:42I would piggyback off that and say, like, if you really love
- 7:46a kind of music, you can study it and you can apply yourself to
- 7:51it, try to teach yourself about it on your own. But a lot
- 7:58of a lot of like you know, musical realities really set in when you're
- 8:03with other people, whether that's like playing or writing together or doing something in
- 8:09like some sort of musical community. That's like really where the uh trying to
- 8:15stay here? That's really where like, uh, you find out what it
- 8:18works and what doesn't. The album's out now, guys, what's next.
- 8:24You've got a bit of a troll playing for it, dude, touring on
- 8:28it. We're gonna play some shows on it, gonna play some festivals.
- 8:33We just announced a pretty big one today that we're gonna be playing with machine
- 8:37Head and Motley Cruez playing as well as and Judas Priest. So, uh,
- 8:43just going on a bigger and better things. Yeah, y cree last
- 8:48night actually they still got a round. Yeah, yeah, They're played in
- 8:52Brisbane. It was I've been a lot better than what I thought. I
- 8:54wouldn't want to reports for it. That nawed. It did really good.
- 9:00That's too cool. Alright, before we go, guys, we started up
- 9:03read new Spotify playlists through heavy to help our listeners get acquainted with bands a
- 9:07bit more so using your own songs. Give me a song for a playlist
- 9:11to get the party started, want to save your marriage and want to potentially
- 9:16end your marriage from our own songs. I wanted to get the party started.
- 9:22I think would be nothing to bleed. What was the second question?
- 9:26Save your marriage? I'll find you of course it's a love song. Well
- 9:33and one that could potentially end your marriage. I'll find you again. Yeah,
- 9:45and and the marriage I don't know, leaving euphoria, Oh yeah,
- 9:50definitely beautiful. Guys. All right, well, thanks very much for your
- 9:54time last day if sun is out now and be our listeners before the University
- 9:56of the crack an album, guds to gratulations and nice to lock with the
- 10:00future. Thanks man, Thanks Chris, You're dying
