- 0:00New Penders has joined us here in our big y broadcast foods after the ten
- 0:03to five went over Creighton and when you can get the production as we were
- 0:06just talking from not only the bottom two guys in the order, but then
- 0:10Studeley comes up and helps you out. I mean, geeze, six hits
- 0:14from your eight and nine hitters today, that's pretty good. Yeah, I
- 0:16think it was actually seven or seven seven. Studley right, You're right.
- 0:21Garboski's been swinging the bat really well all year. He doesn't try to do
- 0:25too much, he takes his singles really have enjoyed watching him develop, and
- 0:30he's had a nice year behind the plate too. But Minnick, you know,
- 0:35we we thought the world of I mean, I think Tyler hitting the
- 0:38five hole to start our season off, I mean we thought this guy's just
- 0:41going to be a plug and play, had an awesome fall, a great
- 0:45preseason. Coach Mack who's calling games against him in the preseason, couldn't get
- 0:48him out. I mean, he might have been our hottest hitter in the
- 0:50preseason. Him and Tamarrow were just awesome. And then the season hit and
- 0:55he just didn't look like himself, and it's like it's a big adjustment when
- 0:58you're eighteen years old and you're facing twenty three and twenty four and sometimes twenty
- 1:03five year olds. It's just, you know, you're not going to see
- 1:04that until you make the big leagues. You don't see that in a ball.
- 1:07You don't see that in double A. You know, it's very odd
- 1:11and that age gap, and you could see kind of it's sped up on
- 1:15him a little bit and he's finally looked more like himself the last shoot.
- 1:19I mean, really since conference play, if you look at the conference numbers
- 1:23only, our eight nine hitters are our best hitters if you look at conference
- 1:26only. So both those guys have figured it out and I'm really happy with
- 1:30them. And yeah, you know, if Tamarow is going to go for
- 1:34five, you need production from somewhere else. Tomorrow doesn't have too many oh
- 1:38for fives, But we got a lot of production throughout the lineup today and
- 1:42very you know, good solid win. Is it simplistic to stay in minix
- 1:47case? Just confidence now, I mean he's had a heck of a week.
- 1:49Yeah, he just he's got a different swagger. I mean, you've
- 1:52seen the beginning of the season to now and just the way he's getting the
- 1:55box. You know, he's enjoying here in his walk up song. He's
- 1:57not in a rush to turn the lights out. You know. Those guys
- 2:00get up there and they see that batting average on the big JumboTron and it
- 2:05becomes the humble tron when it's you know, under two hundred. And I
- 2:07think he was in a rush to get at bats over with. I'm saying
- 2:12that somewhat facetiously, but there is something to the subconscious on that. It's
- 2:15like, oh my god, am I really a one sixty six hitter?
- 2:17Am I really one you know, forty five hitter or whatever? And he's
- 2:21not. He just needed to, you know, he needed to have a
- 2:23little bit of success and and he's built on that. So very happy.
- 2:27He's going to be a very good player for us. He can really play
- 2:30defense too. We even toy it around with the idea of putting him at
- 2:32third base today just to get Luke off his feet, but one of those
- 2:36things you don't want to mess with it, so we just kept it the
- 2:38same. But he's been he's been excellent. Four for four from your nine
- 2:42hitter, and you know, we were joking around that he was the designated
- 2:46swimmer for a little bit. Now he's the designated hitter right now. Yeah,
- 2:50Stephen quickly gives you another good effort. I mean he battled today,
- 2:53going to almost six innings, giving up nine hits, scattering five runs,
- 2:57but he struck out eight and point whatever play he made back of the mind
- 3:00there with the left hand, as Adam referred to it as a little game
- 3:04of BOXI ball. He did that. I was like, what is he
- 3:07doing? But he had worked. He kind of got tangled up, and
- 3:10I guess, you know, he found a way to make it. He's
- 3:12a very good athlete. You know, he's a guy who was a high
- 3:15school shortstop and and still feels his position like a high school shortstop. So
- 3:20no, he was scuffling, you know, early he could not land his
- 3:23slider in the first two innings for anything. And then he finally found it
- 3:29and he needs that. You know, it's a it's a plus pitch.
- 3:31H through a couple of good change ups today too, but the fastball is
- 3:35getting on some of them too. When we started to find the spin,
- 3:38I thought he had a pretty good mix going and therefore, you know,
- 3:40you get the eight strikeouts. But those two left. He's got some really
- 3:44good swings off of them. And and you know, I'm sure we're going
- 3:46to see them tomorrow. And and Gillan and uh Hess, you know,
- 3:51they had they had some big days. They weren't missing much. So but
- 3:54I thought, yeah, he scattered just enough and it was you know,
- 4:00I really didn't I liked one pitch Corea through I think that was the first
- 4:02pitch he threw, and then it just did not look good out of the
- 4:05hand. I know he got the result we wanted, but it was time
- 4:09to switch it up. And then Ellison, you know, Ellison's kind of
- 4:12worked his way back into it. Wanted to get him back out on the
- 4:15mound. Sonella did a solid job, you know, the bullpen held held
- 4:19drew and and uh you know Quinn. Quinn's been great and he needed a
- 4:23good outing too. His last two I'm sure he wasn't happy with and he
- 4:27needed a good one and that was important to get today and he get heat
- 4:30cooked tomorrow on Senior Day. Yeah, you know, he he's got great
- 4:33stuff. You look at the Biggie strikeout numbers. You know, I'm hopeful
- 4:39that he's gonna be able to continue to give us what he's given us.
- 4:42You know, the last several times out he's been he's been excellent. His
- 4:44stuff's been electric. And you know, he's the type of guy that he
- 4:47really he can be his own worst enemy. He's the only guy of all
- 4:51the guys we've had on our staff in the recent past. You know,
- 4:56I've told him this, you know, to his face, he's the only
- 4:59one who can beat him. I mean, really, his stuff is that
- 5:00good, and when he's confident and things are clicking, he's really tough to
- 5:05beat. So hopefully we have that version and we've seen that version of you
- 5:09and cook now for weeks. We just needed to be that guy again one
- 5:12last time at Elliott Ballpark in front of our fans and hope to celebrate a
- 5:15happy Mother's Day for all the moms in attendance, and hopefully we'll have a
- 5:18good crowd. And boy, this place continues to be a good place for
- 5:20you. Another another really really good year. What's you now? Sixteen and
- 5:26out of twenty home wins, Yeah this season. And the crowd really good
- 5:30crowd again today and not perfect weather, but they still come out and great
- 5:34seeing the berm filled up with all the kids now they're running the bases down
- 5:38there. It's it's it's it's what we envision when we built the place,
- 5:42and and I think, you know, it's brightest days are still out of
- 5:44it, but it's I think word of mouth is just going to help.
- 5:46I think people enjoy coming out here, and it's such a beautiful setting,
- 5:49especially now the leaves are it's it's a shame that we're you know, we
- 5:54got one more home game and the leaves are finally full on the trees and
- 5:58it's beautiful. I mean, it's just it's absolutely breathtaking. And I don't
- 6:01I can't imagine ever getting sick of it. I pinch myself every day that
- 6:04I get to this is this is my office. All right, get one
- 6:08more win here and then it's off, what two weeks on the road.
- 6:10Huh, that's right, Yeah, we've got to get got to get one
- 6:13more and then I just want to play well. You know, we play
- 6:15well, We've we've had we tended to get good results. We don't play
- 6:18well, we haven't had them, and so I want to play well tomorrows.
- 6:21Crighton's certainly not going to roll over. They get a lot of grad
- 6:24students on that team. A lot of guys play in their last couple of
- 6:26weeks of college baseball, and they certainly didn't roll over today. They're going
- 6:30to come out fighting, and we have to be ready. It doesn't matter
- 6:33that they're mathematically eliminated from the tournament any of that stuff. They're going to
- 6:38come and ready to fight, and we got to have that. We got
- 6:40to match that intensity, that's for sure, all right, Jim, thank
- 6:43you as always, good luck tomorrow and good luck the rest of the year.
- 6:45Appreciate it, all right,
