- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened? Everyone?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of the check o'daly Andrew to
- 0:13Speaker 2: check O, Eagles beat reporter for insidethbirds dot Com.
- 0:16Speaker 1: The Eagles rookies.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Met with us today at the Jefferson Health Training Complex.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We spoke to all but one draft pick today and
- 0:24Speaker 1: that was U. R. Bernard.
- 0:26Speaker 2: He is expected to speak Friday, following the rookie mini
- 0:31Speaker 2: camp and we will be in attendance for that. We'll
- 0:34Speaker 2: get a chance to see a little bit of practice
- 0:36Speaker 2: and we'll get a chance to see some tryout players
- 0:40Speaker 2: and the numbers.
- 0:41Speaker 1: That the rookies will be wearing.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Speaking of rookies, Makaye Lemon, the Eagles first round pick,
- 0:46Speaker 2: mentioned today that he will be wearing number nine and
- 0:51Speaker 2: that was last worn, of course by Eagles quarterback Nick Foles,
- 0:56Speaker 2: and Makayle Lemon was well aware of the history, said
- 1:00Speaker 2: he spoke to Nick Foles on the phone and it
- 1:04Speaker 2: was really interesting how that transpired because you could see
- 1:08Speaker 2: the respect that he had for the Eagles history.
- 1:11Speaker 1: He cited Nick Foles in the Super Bowl.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Of course, he said he wanted to pass that number over,
- 1:16Speaker 2: wanting to speak to me on the phone before anybody
- 1:19Speaker 2: else told me. So I appreciate him and hopefully I
- 1:22Speaker 2: can meet him soon. He's around the building. So there
- 1:25Speaker 2: you have it there with Makaya Lemon. We'll see what
- 1:29Speaker 2: the other numbers are tomorrow. Eli Stowers mentioned that he
- 1:33Speaker 2: had just gotten there today a few hours prior to
- 1:35Speaker 2: meeting with us, and he got his first taste of
- 1:38Speaker 2: Philadelphia going to the Flyers game, which was Game four.
- 1:42Speaker 2: They lost, but he got a chance to experience the
- 1:44Speaker 2: energy in the city. And I think that is also
- 1:47Speaker 2: notable when you're a young player. You get an experience
- 1:50Speaker 2: and an exposure to the passion of the city, especially
- 1:55Speaker 2: in a game of that magnitude.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean so that was Eli Stowers.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Markel Bell mentioned that Jordan Malatta and Lane Johnson spoke
- 2:06Speaker 2: to him where they reached out after he got drafted.
- 2:09Speaker 2: They say congratulations, good to work with you. Also shared
- 2:12Speaker 2: that he had a basketball background. In ninth and tenth grade,
- 2:17Speaker 2: he played basketball. He's been playing football since he was
- 2:20Speaker 2: in seventh grade, and he ended up stopping basketball after
- 2:23Speaker 2: tenth grade to gain weight. But he had some nice
- 2:29Speaker 2: things to say about Jordan Malata in particular, and my
- 2:33Speaker 2: lot is interesting because he kind of emulates or they
- 2:36Speaker 2: kind of mirror one another with their athletic traits.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And one thing that he said was that Jordan, he's
- 2:43Speaker 1: a big guy. He's his own player. He's a big freak.
- 2:46Speaker 2: And one thing I admire about him is the way
- 2:48Speaker 2: he moves, the way he anchors his own power and
- 2:51Speaker 2: just plays his game.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So that's kind of the attitude I take.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I just play my own game, be who I am.
- 3:00Speaker 2: With Lane and Jordan specifically, he said, I've talked a
- 3:03Speaker 2: little bit to them. They both reached out on draft
- 3:06Speaker 2: night and se congratulations, good to work with you. I'm
- 3:08Speaker 2: just ready to get right beside them, be a sponge
- 3:10Speaker 2: and learn everything.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I can from two great vets.
- 3:15Speaker 2: As for what the last week has been like for him,
- 3:17Speaker 2: he said, just first getting the phone call was a blessing.
- 3:19Speaker 2: It was a dream come true. But I've obviously just
- 3:21Speaker 2: been getting my mind ready to come to.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Work, that's all. And the work starts tomorrow. That was
- 3:29Speaker 1: Mark hil Bell.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Then you look at some of the Day three guys,
- 3:33Speaker 2: Cole Peyton, I thought that it was interesting what he
- 3:36Speaker 2: had to say, and when I asked him about North
- 3:38Speaker 2: Dakota State, looking back on his career, where does he
- 3:41Speaker 2: feel that he's grown the most. And he talked about
- 3:44Speaker 2: his mechanics and that he's been working with Jake Heaps
- 3:48Speaker 2: during the pre draft process and offered some insight into that.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I think he's going to be a really fun player
- 3:54Speaker 2: to watch in training camp to see how he develops
- 3:56Speaker 2: and grows because he does have unique ability. It might
- 4:01Speaker 2: take some time to develop him, but the Eagles are
- 4:04Speaker 2: a good spot for this to happen.
- 4:06Speaker 1: And so that was Cole Peyton. Then you get to
- 4:12Speaker 1: later on in the draft.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Mackay or I'm sorry, Micah Morris from Georgia.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I thought he was really interesting.
- 4:21Speaker 2: He mentioned seeing, you know, hearing from Jaywen Carter and
- 4:25Speaker 2: Nolan Smith and Jordan Davis and them remarking about how
- 4:29Speaker 2: different he looks. He does have some athletic upside and
- 4:34Speaker 2: it's pretty light on his feet. He's a He was
- 4:36Speaker 2: a really good interview. I think he's gonna be somebody
- 4:38Speaker 2: that has a big personality and really is able to
- 4:44Speaker 2: to become more comfortable as the season wears on. But
- 4:49Speaker 2: I was really impressed with him at the podium for
- 4:52Speaker 2: the first time. And then you get to Cole Wasnewski
- 4:56Speaker 2: the safety from Texas Tech, who the Eagles drafted two four,
- 5:02Speaker 2: and he mentioned Vic Fangio being sort of the godfather
- 5:06Speaker 2: of the too high two shell defense, and I thought
- 5:10Speaker 2: that that was really interesting because speaking to Rob Green,
- 5:15Speaker 2: the coach his position coach at Texas Tech and defensive coordinator,
- 5:19Speaker 2: he said, you know, I've never run the Fangio system,
- 5:21Speaker 2: but he was aware of it and he feels that
- 5:25Speaker 2: Cole will be a really good fit within that system.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And I also should note that Cole Peyton and they
- 5:30Speaker 2: overlapped at North Dakota State. He sort of highlighted Colewznowski's
- 5:34Speaker 2: football IQ and that.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Keeps popping up every time.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You hear about Colewznwski is that he does have that
- 5:43Speaker 2: football IQ. And I think that's going to sort of
- 5:46Speaker 2: lend itself to him getting off to a faster start,
- 5:49Speaker 2: being able to learn that defense and process things.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Then, hey, he called him the godfather of the two
- 6:00Speaker 1: high shell defense. That's what he said there.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And Eli Stowers on offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, he said,
- 6:08Speaker 2: he's a really smart mind. I can tell that it's
- 6:11Speaker 2: going to be a really good scheme and that we're
- 6:12Speaker 2: going to be able to make some really good plays
- 6:14Speaker 2: and our offense is going to be powerful because of him.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Wouldn't elaborate too much on the details, and that's understandable.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You don't want to give away too much or tip
- 6:22Speaker 1: your hand. But he feels like there's going to be
- 6:24Speaker 1: plays to be.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Made, and I would imagine that that's going to be
- 6:28Speaker 2: the case there with Sewn Mannion should also add that
- 6:31Speaker 2: Makai Lemon signed his rookie deal, a four year deal,
- 6:35Speaker 2: and he was at the time the first rookie of
- 6:39Speaker 2: this draft class to sign his rookie deal, which was notable.
- 6:44Speaker 1: He got it out of the way. You can focus
- 6:45Speaker 1: on football.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Now, and it was a four year deal, fully guaranteed,
- 6:50Speaker 2: that includes an eleven and a half million dollars signing bonus,
- 6:54Speaker 2: and so that's.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Good to have the first round pick locked up. Cole
- 7:00Speaker 1: wasnwski we covered.
- 7:01Speaker 2: And then you get to who r Bernard, who, as
- 7:06Speaker 2: I mentioned, will be speaking to him on Friday after practice.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Really looking forward to that one in particular, first day
- 7:13Speaker 2: doing anything football related with in a competitive environment, and
- 7:17Speaker 2: I'm very interested to hear his perspective on all that.
- 7:20Speaker 3: A Philly Fans game day is stressful enough parking, traffic,
- 7:24Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
- 7:27Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 7:31Speaker 3: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 7:36Speaker 3: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,
- 7:38Speaker 3: no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care about convenience.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Camden Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their staff
- 7:47Speaker 3: makes sure you feel taken care of every time you

- 7:57Speaker 3: the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a big win,
- 8:01Speaker 3: you know you're getting the good stuff without overpaying. They
- 8:05Speaker 3: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 8:09Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros. Cam Din Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 8:15Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 8:18Speaker 3: one and up.
- 8:20Speaker 2: And then we got to speak to Kei Shawn James
- 8:23Speaker 2: Nuby for the first time. I like his personality, I
- 8:29Speaker 2: like him. He talked about his explosiveness, his quickness. This
- 8:32Speaker 2: is someone who ran a four or five to three,
- 8:35Speaker 2: he bounced around to different schools, offered perspective on what
- 8:40Speaker 2: that was like for him. And you know, he's not
- 8:45Speaker 2: a power rusher, but he's someone that I think deserves
- 8:47Speaker 2: an opportunity here before he's written off about being a
- 8:50Speaker 2: long shot to make the roster.
- 8:52Speaker 1: He has a unique skill set.
- 8:53Speaker 2: You kind of compare it to Antoine Powell Island of
- 8:56Speaker 2: last summer, and it's not.
- 8:59Speaker 1: You don't have to squint see some similarities.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Now, Powell Ryland was very productive at Virginia Tech, even
- 9:04Speaker 2: more so than Keishawn James Newby at any of his
- 9:07Speaker 2: stops combined. But you know their late round picks with
- 9:11Speaker 2: pass rush upside. And that was our first opportunity to
- 9:13Speaker 2: talk to him. As I mentioned, tomorrow first day of
- 9:18Speaker 2: rookie Mini Camp, that'll be May first and May second.
- 9:21Speaker 2: We'll get a chance to get a look at the
- 9:23Speaker 2: at the rookies, see them do some individual drills and
- 9:27Speaker 2: also see what numbers they're wearing. And what's interesting about
- 9:30Speaker 2: rookie Mini camp is that's where you get the full
- 9:33Speaker 2: the full rundown of the tryout players.
- 9:36Speaker 1: You see some names leaked here.
- 9:38Speaker 2: And there, but that's really where you get that that
- 9:41Speaker 2: that information. So a lot going on in in Eagles Lands,
- 9:46Speaker 2: and yeah, I mean there, there's there's a lot to
- 9:50Speaker 2: look forward to because then there's gonna be OTAs.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And then after that you have mandatory Mini camp.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Things move fast and furious in the NFL, and before
- 9:59Speaker 2: you know it will be in mandatory mini camp and
- 10:01Speaker 2: then there's that brief low for a little bit and
- 10:03Speaker 2: then it's training camp. So I'm looking at this roster
- 10:08Speaker 2: and zooming out. There are very few holes.
- 10:11Speaker 1: There's a lot of intriguing pieces there.
- 10:13Speaker 2: There's a lot of constants and stability with veterans and
- 10:17Speaker 2: big time playmakers. What I'm most fascinated with, of course,
- 10:20Speaker 2: is to see how the offensive coordinator Sean Mannion and
- 10:24Speaker 2: his coaches are able to involve these young players, what
- 10:28Speaker 2: the offense is ultimately going to look like, implementing the
- 10:30Speaker 2: quarterback into this and ultimately trying to get this offense
- 10:34Speaker 2: off the ground and modernize it as it's expected to look.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So for now, that's going to do it.
- 10:41Speaker 2: For this episode of The Checho Daily, I'm Andrew Decheco,
- 10:47Speaker 2: and I'll catch you all on the next one.
