Latest / The Mark Simone Show / Hour 2: Florida's new problem.
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're ahead of the game just for being here.
- 0:04Speaker 2: It's Mark Simone on 710WOR. Well, a lot to get
- 0:09Speaker 2: through this hour. Kathy Hochul giving a big interview to
- 0:13Speaker 2: the left-wing, biased, slanted site called Politico. Politico's been caught
- 0:20Speaker 2: in some fake news recently. They're the ones that had
- 0:24Speaker 2: that whole fake story that Susie Wiles, the White House
- 0:26Speaker 2: chief of staff, is out. Total fake story. In fact,
- 0:30Speaker 2: the White House threatened to sue Politico. They immediately issued
- 0:34Speaker 2: a full retraction. Story was false. That's Politico. She gives
- 0:39Speaker 2: them an interview. She loves to just stick to the
- 0:42Speaker 2: very biased places like New York One. That's the only
- 0:46Speaker 2: place she would agree to a debate. Politico, that's who
- 0:48Speaker 2: she gives the interview to. But in this interview, she
- 0:51Speaker 2: said she also plans to run for governor in 2030. Now, remember,
- 0:57Speaker 2: there's no term limits on New York State, state jobs,
- 1:01Speaker 2: attorney general, governor. You can be... Pataki was there four terms.
- 1:05Speaker 2: You can run over and over again. So she wants
- 1:08Speaker 2: to be a four-term governor, five-term governor. Well, you can't
- 1:12Speaker 2: because when you get near third term, people start turning
- 1:17Speaker 2: on you. When you get near fourth term, it doesn't
- 1:19Speaker 2: matter how good you are. They end up hating you
- 1:20Speaker 2: in the fourth term. But she says she'll run again
- 1:25Speaker 2: in 2030.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Now....
- 1:27Speaker 2: I would assume that's because who the hell is going
- 1:28Speaker 2: to hire her if she got out of office? I
- 1:31Speaker 2: don't think there's any big corporations looking at her and saying,
- 1:34Speaker 2: why can't we get somebody like that to run the company?
- 1:37Speaker 2: I don't think anybody's impressed by her. Now, if you're
- 1:40Speaker 2: thinking of moving to Florida, if you're saying to yourself,
- 1:46Speaker 2: I can't go through these winters. I don't like the cold.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I want to move to Florida. Well, you better like
- 1:50Speaker 2: tropical storms. You better like hurricanes. And they got problems
- 1:55Speaker 2: down there that you'd never have up here. I mean,
- 1:57Speaker 2: you know, from everything. You got the lizards in your house.
- 2:00Speaker 2: You got alligators in your backyard. But the new problem
- 2:06Speaker 2: now hitting South Florida, they call it a king tide.
- 2:11Speaker 2: They got king tide problems. It's hitting Miami. It's hitting
- 2:15Speaker 2: Fort Lauderdale. It's hitting Broward and Miami-Dade counties. The king
- 2:21Speaker 2: tide is is the tide off the coast of Florida
- 2:25Speaker 2: has gotten so high, it's flooding the streets, flooding the cities. Oh,
- 2:30Speaker 2: I don't mean in some out-of-the-way area. I mean right
- 2:33Speaker 2: in the middle of Miami. People are sending me pictures
- 2:37Speaker 2: from Miami. Their streets are flooded under two feet of water.
- 2:41Speaker 2: It's called the King Tide. Now, they keep trying to
- 2:45Speaker 2: build new seawalls and all. It doesn't work. It's not helping.
- 2:51Speaker 2: South Florida has seen days of flooding due to these
- 2:54Speaker 2: king tides. It's where the tide comes up like a
- 2:58Speaker 2: couple of feet past normal. Add to that these strong
- 3:02Speaker 2: onshore winds. As we were talking about before, it rains
- 3:06Speaker 2: every day in Florida. Residents have been warned that this
- 3:11Speaker 2: week could be the worst. It could get worse before
- 3:14Speaker 2: it even starts to improve. King tides have surged to
- 3:18Speaker 2: record levels. Broward, Dade County in Miami. It's, uh, salt
- 3:23Speaker 2: water just floods the streets. It can be up to
- 3:26Speaker 2: two feet of salt water. It completely, uh, you know,
- 3:30Speaker 2: knocks out your car. It'll stall your car. I'm not
- 3:33Speaker 2: talking about, uh, just, you know, out of the way places.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I mean, it happened this week, Collins Avenue, mid Miami beach,
- 3:40Speaker 2: Collins Avenue flooded. Some cars stalled others, uh, climbed up
- 3:47Speaker 2: on hotel driveways trying to get to higher ground. Neighborhoods
- 3:50Speaker 2: in Fort Lauderdale have been victims of this flooding. Streets,
- 3:55Speaker 2: entire streets were underwater. People became stranded yesterday. The city
- 4:01Speaker 2: is unable to pump the water out fast enough. The
- 4:03Speaker 2: drain system isn't enough. Ocean levels are exceptionally high. There's
- 4:08Speaker 2: nowhere for the water to go. You can't pump it
- 4:10Speaker 2: back into the waterways because that just adds to the problem.
- 4:15Speaker 2: They're already elevated beyond control. Water-covered streets and yards. Some
- 4:21Speaker 2: businesses knocked out in the Riviera Isles neighborhood. People were
- 4:27Speaker 2: in boats using paddle boats to get around the streets.
- 4:33Speaker 2: You don't have these problems in there. You got a
- 4:35Speaker 2: lot of problems in Florida. I know there's no taxes,
- 4:38Speaker 2: but you got a lot of other problems. So, It's
- 4:43Speaker 2: supposed to be big news. Cheerios, the great cereal, has
- 4:47Speaker 2: made a major change in packaging. Why? In the cereal box,
- 4:52Speaker 2: when you, the cereals, you know, it's in a little plastic,
- 4:55Speaker 2: you know, it's in a bag within the box. You
- 4:58Speaker 2: pour it out and then you fold up, curl up
- 5:00Speaker 2: the top of that bag. Well, from now on, Cheerios,
- 5:03Speaker 2: they're starting this. They're going to have, when you open
- 5:05Speaker 2: up the box, the bag that's in the cereal is
- 5:09Speaker 2: going to have a Ziploc zipper at the top of it.
- 5:13Speaker 2: So you open the zipper slightly, which will create a spout.
- 5:16Speaker 2: You can pour the cereal out. And then like a
- 5:18Speaker 2: Ziploc bag, you zip it closed. It helps keep the
- 5:23Speaker 2: cereal fresh.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Huh.
- 5:26Speaker 2: It is 2026. You'd think they would have thought of
- 5:29Speaker 2: this somewhere in the last 50 years. I mean, Ziploc
- 5:32Speaker 2: bags have been around forever. They just thought of this now.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So it's a big improvement. It doesn't say here anything
- 5:39Speaker 2: about the price. There might be a big improvement in
- 5:41Speaker 2: the price to pay for this. But the new packaging
- 5:47Speaker 2: designed to open, create a spout. It's designed to keep
- 5:50Speaker 2: the cereal fresh.
- 5:52Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I like folding up the bag inside. You know, you
- 5:55Speaker 2: fold it up, fold it up, fold it up. All right.
- 5:58Speaker 2: This is probably a good idea. If it works, other
- 6:00Speaker 2: cereals will do it. You know what's a big hit
- 6:02Speaker 2: on Broadway? That Billy Crystal show. It's a one-man show
- 6:06Speaker 2: called 860. That was his address of his house in
- 6:09Speaker 2: Los Angeles. Destroyed in the fires. So he tells these
- 6:13Speaker 2: touching stories of losing his house and everything. But before
- 6:17Speaker 2: he gets to that, he takes you through his whole career.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Everybody raving. It's a great one-man show. And it's doing
- 6:24Speaker 2: so well. It's sold out completely. Took in $ 1. 2 million
- 6:28Speaker 2: this week. Now, that's huge. It's not a big Broadway musical.
- 6:33Speaker 2: It's just a straight show, one-man show. They do it
- 6:36Speaker 2: in a little smaller theater. So that's a lot of
- 6:39Speaker 2: money for a one-man show. Everybody's saying he'll get a
- 6:41Speaker 2: special Tony Award. But it's doing so well. They've extended
- 6:46Speaker 2: the run for six weeks. It's a limited run. Well,
- 6:50Speaker 2: they always do a limited run just in case it
- 6:51Speaker 2: bombs or it's not doing so well. Then they can
- 6:54Speaker 2: close and say it was always just a limited run.
- 6:56Speaker 2: But they've extended it six weeks through February 14th. Last
- 7:02Speaker 2: performance will be like the day before the Super Bowl.
- 7:04Speaker 2: So if you haven't seen it, go see it. Everybody's
- 7:07Speaker 2: raving about it. It's not Jackie Mason. That was the
- 7:10Speaker 2: single greatest one-man show in Broadway history. This show is dramatic.
- 7:14Speaker 2: It's touching. It's cute. It's funny. The Jackie Mason one-man
- 7:18Speaker 2: show was just nonstop roaring laughter for two hours. It
- 7:23Speaker 2: was the most amazing one-man show in the history of Broadway.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And ever since he did that, you may have forgotten
- 7:28Speaker 2: about this. Every comedian got so jealous. They all tried it.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Remember?
- 7:33Speaker 2: You won't remember. Rodney Dangerfield tried a one-man show. It
- 7:36Speaker 2: lasted a few weeks. I can't remember all of it.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Every comedian you can think of, even Mort Saul tried it.
- 7:41Speaker 2: None of them lasted. This is the only thing that's
- 7:44Speaker 2: ever come close, this Billy Crystal show. Hey, there's going
- 7:47Speaker 2: to be a Kennedy Center Honors this year. He's saying,
- 7:50Speaker 2: he said, wait a minute, there's no Kennedy Center. How
- 7:53Speaker 2: can they do that without, well, they're going to do
- 7:56Speaker 2: it apparently anyway. Even though there's no Kennedy Center, they'll
- 8:00Speaker 2: do it December 7th. They'll do it at the Capital
- 8:02Speaker 2: One Arena in Washington. Not as elegant as the Kennedy Center, but,
- 8:08Speaker 2: you know, the Kennedy Center only holds 2,000 people. Capital
- 8:12Speaker 2: Arena is 20,000 people. They're going to announce the honorees
- 8:16Speaker 2: pretty soon. I'm hearing Liza Minnelli, Mel Gibson, names like that.
- 8:24Speaker 2: I can't remember. There's a few artists that are... Liza Minnelli,
- 8:28Speaker 2: I think, has said she will accept it. So all
- 8:33Speaker 2: day long, they have teams of Democrats, media teams and
- 8:38Speaker 2: teams of people who sit up all night trying to
- 8:40Speaker 2: figure out what could we attack Trump on? Well, they've
- 8:45Speaker 2: done the ballroom. Nobody seems to care. They do the helipad.
- 8:48Speaker 2: You know, the ballroom stuff, as our friend Jimmy Fallon
- 8:52Speaker 2: always points out, is of no interest to anybody, is
- 8:55Speaker 2: an issue. They love the ballroom. It's a great idea.
- 8:58Speaker 2: It's going to be beautiful. It's an incredible piece of luck.
- 9:02Speaker 2: You need a ballroom. You got a president who is
- 9:05Speaker 2: the country's leading expert on building ballrooms. He's built hundreds
- 9:09Speaker 2: of them all over the world. They all look spectacular.
- 9:12Speaker 2: So let him build the ballroom. He's going to spend,
- 9:15Speaker 2: I don't know, let's say it's six, 700 million. Okay.
- 9:19Speaker 2: If the government tried to build the same ballroom, it
- 9:21Speaker 2: would be 60 billion and it would take 20 years.
- 9:24Speaker 2: This is going to take a year at the most.
- 9:27Speaker 2: and it'll get it built. But the other thing he
- 9:29Speaker 2: wants to do is put a big arch in Washington, DC.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It'll look like when you go down to Washington square park,
- 9:35Speaker 2: you got a big arch there, which looks exactly like
- 9:38Speaker 2: the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, where all the big
- 9:42Speaker 2: boulevards come together. And in Paris, it's, they have these
- 9:47Speaker 2: throughout Europe. It's not just Paris. Germany has that sort of,
- 9:50Speaker 2: every great grand capital in Europe has one of these arches. So,
- 9:55Speaker 2: He thinks the Washington, D.C., the U.S. capital, should have
- 9:58Speaker 2: a big arch. And naturally, it's Trump, so it's going
- 10:01Speaker 2: to be bigger than their arches, and it's going to
- 10:03Speaker 2: have a little more gold. In fact, maybe I have
- 10:06Speaker 2: too much gold. But it looks beautiful in the drinks,
- 10:08Speaker 2: but it's big. It's very big. It's impressive if you
- 10:12Speaker 2: look at it. It's quite dramatic. But Democrats hate it
- 10:16Speaker 2: because it's Trump. Anything Trump, they don't like. anything the
- 10:20Speaker 2: Trump they hate. So they're coming up with arguments against it.
- 10:26Speaker 2: One is it's too close to Arlington. I said it's
- 10:28Speaker 2: a cemetery. So the new one is they are now
- 10:31Speaker 2: saying this arch would cast a shadow over thousands of
- 10:36Speaker 2: graves at Arlington. This is the Washington Post launching this attack.
- 10:40Speaker 2: You're going to hear about this all over CNN and MSNOW.
- 10:44Speaker 2: They'll have animations, drawings. Look how it would cast a
- 10:47Speaker 2: shadow over the graves. Now, I don't mean to be
- 10:53Speaker 2: cold about this, but is that a problem? It's a grave.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I mean, I don't think anybody in a grave is
- 10:58Speaker 2: going to go, ooh, what the hell is that? It's
- 11:00Speaker 2: not going to blind it. I mean, and I have
- 11:02Speaker 2: a feeling the shadow is going to be for like
- 11:03Speaker 2: an hour or two a day, and that's it. But
- 11:06Speaker 2: they're yelling and screaming, this is going to be the
- 11:08Speaker 2: grave of Thurgood Marshall, of William Rehnquist, of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
- 11:16Speaker 2: To me, it's not that big a controversy. you know
- 11:21Speaker 2: this cop, this awful, awful ex-cop who shot this poor guy, Irvine,
- 11:28Speaker 2: Con Ed worker, everybody who knows this guy Irvine, this
- 11:34Speaker 2: off-duty cop gets into road rage with him on the
- 11:38Speaker 2: George Washington Bridge. Now Irvine seems to be the nicest
- 11:42Speaker 2: guy ever. He's not a guy that would drive aggressively
- 11:46Speaker 2: or anything, but You know, when you're going onto the
- 11:48Speaker 2: George Washington Bridge from the West Side Highway, you get
- 11:52Speaker 2: off the West Side Highway. Then you go on these
- 11:55Speaker 2: lanes that curl around sideways this way. It's like the
- 11:58Speaker 2: biggest curve ever. And it's three lanes. And it's very confusing.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I mean, it's so fast. And then one sign says
- 12:05Speaker 2: lower level this way, upper level this lane, cross Bronx
- 12:10Speaker 2: this lane. So sometimes you're like in the wrong lane.
- 12:12Speaker 2: You have to suddenly switch lanes. That's probably what happened.
- 12:18Speaker 2: They think that Irvine cut this ex-cop off. Now, again,
- 12:21Speaker 2: he's not a guy that would do that deliberately. So
- 12:23Speaker 2: they think that something like that happened. Anyway, you can
- 12:26Speaker 2: see in the surveillance video that Irvine is being now
- 12:30Speaker 2: chased by this ex-cop. He's tailgating him, flashing his lights
- 12:33Speaker 2: at him, chasing him. And this ex-cop goes so crazy
- 12:37Speaker 2: with road rage, pulls up alongside him, takes out his gun,
- 12:42Speaker 2: shoots into the car, kills Irvine. It is the most
- 12:45Speaker 2: terrible thing in the world. Everybody says this. Irvine, a
- 12:48Speaker 2: Con Ed worker for 20 years, is the most beloved,
- 12:52Speaker 2: wonderful family man. So this ex-cop, Romero, has to go
- 12:59Speaker 2: to court the other day. And I guess because he's
- 13:02Speaker 2: an ex-cop, the court officers took care of him, snuck
- 13:05Speaker 2: him into the courthouse through the garage or something. So
- 13:08Speaker 2: reporters never got to see him. He had to return
- 13:11Speaker 2: to court this time, and I guess the court officers
- 13:13Speaker 2: were afraid the pull any favors this time. So he
- 13:17Speaker 2: did come out of his car on the street and
- 13:18Speaker 2: everybody got pictures of him. The other thing about Romero
- 13:23Speaker 2: is when they found out his name, they went to
- 13:27Speaker 2: the internet and every single thing about him had been
- 13:31Speaker 2: scrubbed off the internet. You could not find a picture
- 13:33Speaker 2: or anything about this guy on the internet. Now, you know,
- 13:36Speaker 2: we have that sponsor Incogni. You can hire companies like that.
- 13:39Speaker 2: They will get every piece of information off the internet
- 13:42Speaker 2: for you, of you. So he obviously used a service
- 13:45Speaker 2: like that. He works for a big financial company. I'm
- 13:50Speaker 2: sure they have somebody who knows how to do all
- 13:52Speaker 2: that stuff or a company they use. And he worked
- 13:55Speaker 2: for a big financial company. He was the driver for
- 13:58Speaker 2: the CEO. In fact, when he did this shooting, he
- 14:02Speaker 2: was in the company car, the Range Rover. So for
- 14:08Speaker 2: whatever reason, our crazy district attorney, although he downgrades charges
- 14:11Speaker 2: all the time, Instead of murder, he downgraded it to manslaughter. Well,
- 14:16Speaker 2: yesterday in court, they rose it back up to murder.
- 14:20Speaker 2: It should be murder. It's not manslaughter. I mean, it's
- 14:23Speaker 2: out and out murder. Out and out murder. Irvine's family,
- 14:26Speaker 2: friends were there. They were so angry, and who can
- 14:30Speaker 2: blame them? Where's Governor Kathy Hochul? Where's Mondani? Where's my
- 14:35Speaker 2: condolences for my family?
- 14:37Speaker 5: I'm pissed off.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean, that's just a sample, but... And
- 14:42Speaker 2: they're absolutely right. So this cop, I mean, how can
- 14:46Speaker 2: you not convict this guy? How's he not going to
- 14:48Speaker 2: get convicted? What's his defense? I had no idea. Anyways,
- 14:52Speaker 2: it's just a terrible story. We'll take some calls next.
- 14:55Speaker 2: 800-321-0710 is the number. If you're a new caller, we
- 14:57Speaker 2: love hearing from you.
- 14:58Speaker 4: 800-321-0710.
- 15:04Speaker 2: 321-0710. What's better than two hours of Mark Simone?
- 15:09Speaker 6: Three.
- 15:10Speaker 2: More Mark. The Mark Simone Show.
- 15:12Speaker 7: Now nine till noon weekdays.
- 15:17Speaker 4: 710WOR.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Let's take some calls. Let's go to Gina in Staten Island. Gina,
- 15:25Speaker 2: how you doing?
- 15:27Speaker 4: I'm good.
- 15:28Speaker 5: How are you, Mark?
- 15:28Speaker 2: Very good.
- 15:31Speaker 6: Okay.
- 15:31Speaker 5: I'm calling because I was in the city yesterday, and
- 15:34Speaker 5: I met Caroline Schenkel.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yes.
- 15:36Speaker 5: And I was very impressed with her. And she's standing
- 15:39Speaker 5: on the corner on the Upper West Side, and I said,
- 15:41Speaker 5: you're very brave to be out here. And I hope
- 15:44Speaker 5: she wins. And I did early voting. I did R
- 15:46Speaker 5: all the way down. And also, I had just come
- 15:49Speaker 5: out of the Museum of Natural History, and I was
- 15:51Speaker 5: upset because I was on a tour. And the tour
- 15:54Speaker 5: guide starts asking people, where are you from? So this
- 15:57Speaker 5: kid goes, I'm from Ireland, and she says, oh, I
- 16:00Speaker 5: wish I was there right now because of what's going
- 16:02Speaker 5: on in this country. And I just looked at her like,
- 16:04Speaker 5: what the? And I said, okay, you're in Manhattan. Calm down.
- 16:07Speaker 5: So I just left the tour. I was like, instead
- 16:09Speaker 5: of fighting with her, I just walked away.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Just ignore it. They're like silly little children, just whiny
- 16:17Speaker 2: little children. Caroline Schinkel is a very good candidate. She's
- 16:20Speaker 2: running in Congressional District 12. That's Jerry Nadler's old seat.
- 16:25Speaker 2: It's part west side, part east side. So vote for
- 16:28Speaker 2: Caroline Schinkel. Election Day coming up. So you're from Staten Island.
- 16:35Speaker 2: That's New York. You shouldn't be a tourist on a
- 16:37Speaker 2: tour bus looking at the museums.
- 16:42Speaker 4: Well, I don't know.
- 16:43Speaker 5: I couldn't help myself. No, it was inside. They do
- 16:45Speaker 5: tours on the half hour, and it's usually good. They
- 16:48Speaker 5: don't talk about politics, but this woman, I was like.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 16:51Speaker 2: That's going to happen. Just ignore it. Just laugh.
- 16:53Speaker 5: I said, I'm not going to fight. I just walked away,
- 16:56Speaker 5: and I just took a deep breath. And then I
- 16:57Speaker 5: ran into Caroline Schenkel outside, and I said, okay, I
- 16:59Speaker 5: feel better now about life.
- 17:01Speaker 2: All right. Just laugh at these people. They're just children.
- 17:04Speaker 2: They're like little children. Thanks for calling. Let's go to
- 17:09Speaker 2: Shelly in Long Island. Shelly, how are you doing?
- 17:12Speaker 3: Hey, Mark. How are you doing? I love this show.
- 17:14Speaker 3: You always make everything better. I just wanted to say that. Um,
- 17:18Speaker 3: I saw the Billy Crystal show. It was very funny,
- 17:21Speaker 3: but I will say, I don't know. Did you see it?
- 17:23Speaker 2: No, not yet.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Oh, okay.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Well, he did spend a good eight minutes bashing Trump
- 17:29Speaker 3: and everybody who was liberal in the audience was clapping.
- 17:32Speaker 3: They were so happy about it. And then he glosses
- 17:35Speaker 3: over the reason that his house burnt down.
- 17:39Speaker 5: He didn't name names.
- 17:40Speaker 3: He barely mentioned that the reservoirs were empty. He didn't
- 17:44Speaker 3: really talk about the fact that the firefighters couldn't find water.
- 17:48Speaker 3: He was very specific about not going after anybody in
- 17:51Speaker 3: California about that. And I really was disappointed, to be
- 17:54Speaker 3: honest with you.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Well, all right.
- 17:56Speaker 2: That's a good point. If it's a bias-slanted Trump derangement
- 18:00Speaker 2: syndrome show, I guess we can avoid it. But it's
- 18:05Speaker 2: Billy Crystal. He doesn't know anything about politics. You know,
- 18:07Speaker 2: if you ask Billy Crystal... And, you know, to break
- 18:10Speaker 2: down quantum physics, I don't think you'd be very good
- 18:12Speaker 2: at that either.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Very true.
- 18:15Speaker 3: But I'm curious to hear what you say after you've
- 18:18Speaker 3: seen it. It is funny.
- 18:19Speaker 5: I will give you that.
- 18:20Speaker 3: But I did not.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Like that part.
- 18:21Speaker 2: All right. Now that you've said that, I'm not going
- 18:23Speaker 2: to see it. That's it. I'm not going to see it.
- 18:25Speaker 4: There you go. If it's that biased. There you go.
- 18:27Speaker 6: All right.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Thanks for the warning. Thanks for calling. Let's go to
- 18:31Speaker 2: Jim in New Jersey. Jim, how are you doing?
- 18:34Speaker 4: Look, I had to call in. I went to a
- 18:36Speaker 4: one-man show in New York November 2nd. 2002. It was
- 18:41Speaker 4: at the Little Theater, Helen Hayes Theater.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 4: And I got there early to make sure I knew
- 18:45Speaker 4: where I was going. It was Good Night Gracie. Okay, Mark?
- 18:49Speaker 2: Yeah, who was that?
- 18:51Speaker 1: I forgot who it was.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Oh, I'm going to get to that in a sec, Mark.
- 18:55Speaker 4: So next to it, as you know, you spent many
- 18:56Speaker 4: times there. Sardis. Sardis. I've never been in Sardis. So
- 19:00Speaker 4: I went up. The doorman said, can I come in?
- 19:02Speaker 4: I'm dressed.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Come on in.
- 19:04Speaker 4: I went to the bar. Very nice bartender. I had
- 19:07Speaker 4: a couple of beers. Paid my tab. I said, let
- 19:09Speaker 4: me go back. And I turn, and who's standing there
- 19:12Speaker 4: with a baseball cap over his face, a cigarette down
- 19:15Speaker 4: to the nub? I'd met him before at an autograph show.
- 19:19Speaker 4: It was the star of the show, Frank Gorshin. And
- 19:22Speaker 4: I went up to him.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I said, shouldn't you be getting ready? You're building this
- 19:25Speaker 2: up like you met the greatest star in the world,
- 19:28Speaker 2: like it's going to be some unbelievable. It turns out
- 19:30Speaker 2: it's Frank Gorshin?
- 19:33Speaker 4: He was the star. He was in George Burns for
- 19:35Speaker 4: the hour and a half.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Frank Gorshin was a brilliant impressionist, great impressionist, one of
- 19:42Speaker 2: the best ever. But if you took him out on
- 19:43Speaker 2: the street and stopped everybody in the streets, I'll give
- 19:46Speaker 2: you $ 10, 000. You can tell me who this guy is. Nobody. Well,
- 19:49Speaker 2: it was 2002.
- 19:50Speaker 4: He was past his prime. But anyhow, we talked about Batman.
- 19:52Speaker 4: We talked about.
- 19:53Speaker 2: He played the Riddler in Batman.
- 19:56Speaker 4: And he actually at the end, Mark, I'll leave you
- 19:57Speaker 4: with this one. I think he did it for me.
- 20:00Speaker 4: He took Forrest, you know, bows at the end and
- 20:02Speaker 4: he walked off the stage dancing like the Riddler. So,
- 20:05Speaker 4: It was a great memory, Mark.
- 20:07Speaker 2: If you got that excited about meeting Frank Gorshin, I'm
- 20:10Speaker 2: going to introduce you to Larry Storch. How's that? That
- 20:12Speaker 2: will get you really excited.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Oh, I met him many times.
- 20:14Speaker 2: See, there you go.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Yes, I did. Thanks, Mark.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Let me test you on other names. Let me see.
- 20:19Speaker 2: We've got to stump this guy.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I met them all.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Milt Kamen. Never met him. Oh, right. That's a comedian
- 20:26Speaker 2: in the 60s. Let me try another. Nipsey Russell.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Oh, I would have loved to have met him, but
- 20:34Speaker 4: I don't think he did the autograph conventions.
- 20:37Speaker 2: All right. They go to these autograph conventions.
- 20:40Speaker 4: I met Ernest Borg twice, Mark. Ernest Borg twice. Not twice.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Both times he was in his 90s. All right. He
- 20:46Speaker 4: was at the autograph convention. So there you go.
- 20:49Speaker 2: All right. Thanks for calling. They go to these autograph conventions,
- 20:54Speaker 2: and they line up forever to meet Joe Flynn, who was–
- 20:58Speaker 2: the commander on McHale's Navy or, you know, the guy
- 21:01Speaker 2: that played the neighbor on All in the Family. This
- 21:03Speaker 2: is what they do at these autograph conventions. Let's go
- 21:06Speaker 2: to Vincent in Brooklyn. Vincent, how you doing?
- 21:09Speaker 6: Mark, you got me cracking up. I remember Nipsey Russell. Mark,
- 21:13Speaker 6: Kathy Hochul and Alvin Bragg must have heard your show
- 21:17Speaker 6: yesterday because look what happened when Kathy Hochul saw that
- 21:23Speaker 6: the union representing the Con Edison workers had printed placards saying,
- 21:29Speaker 6: They had to get a permit to protest down in
- 21:32Speaker 6: Foley Square. I'll bet anybody anything they want. Kathy Hochul
- 21:38Speaker 6: last night called up Alvin Bragg and said, hey. I'm
- 21:43Speaker 6: up for reelection. We can't have the black community turning
- 21:48Speaker 6: on us. She gave him a call in the middle
- 21:52Speaker 6: of the night and said, you upgrade those charges. And
- 21:55Speaker 6: on the news yesterday, they said, oh, well, they were
- 21:58Speaker 6: constantly investigating the program. Let me tell you how this
- 22:02Speaker 6: is going to go down. And hey, pal, you want
- 22:06Speaker 6: to save some money on your lawyer's fees? Listen to
- 22:09Speaker 6: Uncle Vincent. When you go to court next month, you're
- 22:13Speaker 6: not going to spend Thanksgiving with your family. They're going
- 22:17Speaker 6: to revoke your bail because that's what the wife and
- 22:19Speaker 6: the sister is screaming out. And normally, second-degree murder, you
- 22:25Speaker 6: don't get bail. Look, they didn't even give Diddy bail.
- 22:29Speaker 6: So let me tell you, pal, this is what you
- 22:31Speaker 6: should do. When you go into court next time, cop.
- 22:36Speaker 6: Cop the plea. Because if you put the system through,
- 22:40Speaker 6: spending all this money to prosecute you, you're going to
- 22:43Speaker 6: make it worse. So this way, if you.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Cop a plea.
- 22:46Speaker 2: That's a good point, Vincent. I agree with you. Absolutely right.
- 22:48Speaker 2: You called it yesterday. And I think you're absolutely right
- 22:51Speaker 2: about everything.
- 22:53Speaker 6: He's not going to get bailed.
- 22:55Speaker 2: We've got to go do the news, Vincent. You've got
- 22:57Speaker 2: to stop at some point. But you're absolutely right. Absolutely right.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Thanks for calling. Now, why would Alvin Bragg have to
- 23:04Speaker 2: listen to Kathy Hochul? She's his boss. District attorney's a
- 23:08Speaker 2: state job. The governor can remove district attorney, so he
- 23:11Speaker 2: would have to listen to her. Hey, when we come back,
- 23:13Speaker 2: Steve Moore, the brilliant economist. We'll talk to him next
- 23:16Speaker 2: on 710WOR.
- 23:18Speaker 7: Mark Simone, live from the WOR Life Fact Studios.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Well, Steve Moore, the great economist, get his book, The
- 23:28Speaker 2: Trump Economic Miracle. You'll love it and learn a lot
- 23:31Speaker 2: from it. More important, get his daily briefing. It is
- 23:35Speaker 2: the best four or five news stories, brilliant analysis. You'll
- 23:38Speaker 2: love it. It's free, absolutely free. Just go to UnleashProsperity.com.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Sign up for the hotline. Go to UnleashProsperity.com. Steve Moore,
- 23:49Speaker 2: how are you doing?
- 23:50Speaker 4: Hi, Mark.
- 23:51Speaker 1: I'm doing well. Thanks for having me.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Hey, President Trump, with all these deals around the world
- 23:57Speaker 2: and tariffs and all the things he's trying to get
- 23:59Speaker 2: business back, He says he can bring back $ 20 trillion
- 24:03Speaker 2: to the U.S. Is that possible?
- 24:06Speaker 7: That's a big number, isn't it? I think it's probably
- 24:10Speaker 7: an exaggeration.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I know that.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Donald Trump exaggerates. Exaggerating by Donald Trump.
- 24:15Speaker 1: That never happens with Donald Trump. But the numbers are
- 24:18Speaker 1: very good.
- 24:18Speaker 7: We've imported already about $ 2. 5 trillion from the rest of
- 24:23Speaker 7: the world. And that makes us the magnet for capital.
- 24:27Speaker 7: That's why when people say the U.S. economy is weak,
- 24:29Speaker 7: it's not weak. I mean, why would everybody be investing
- 24:32Speaker 7: here if they didn't think this was a great environment
- 24:35Speaker 7: for business, great environment for workers, et cetera? So these
- 24:39Speaker 7: are big numbers, and you can almost judge what countries
- 24:44Speaker 7: are doing best economically by where, follow the money, right, Mark?
- 24:49Speaker 7: Where the money goes, that's where the investment is, that's
- 24:51Speaker 7: where the jobs are, that's where the opportunities are. So
- 24:54Speaker 7: It's a pretty amazing statistic, but probably not 20 trillion,
- 24:57Speaker 7: probably closer to two to five trillion, but that's still
- 25:00Speaker 7: a big number.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but as we lost the manufacturing of everything, cars, everything, medicine,
- 25:06Speaker 2: it all went overseas, tech products.
- 25:08Speaker 7: It's coming back. That's the amazing thing. A lot of
- 25:10Speaker 7: this is coming back. And, you know, we're seeing manufacturing
- 25:14Speaker 7: and construction boom in the country right now, which is
- 25:17Speaker 7: really encouraging. So, you know, that's the mythology. Now, Trump
- 25:22Speaker 7: has brought a lot of the jobs back. back in
- 25:24Speaker 7: the blue collar area. You know, Trump would say that's
- 25:27Speaker 7: because of the tariffs, but, you know, I think it's
- 25:29Speaker 7: more a result mark of the, of the Trump, a big,
- 25:32Speaker 7: beautiful tax bill that allow businesses to write off their,
- 25:36Speaker 7: you know, their taxes, their expenditures for plan equipment, machinery,
- 25:40Speaker 7: that's research and development. And that's made the United States
- 25:44Speaker 7: a much more financially attractive place to invest in.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I mean, we really are the, the global envy of
- 25:51Speaker 1: the world.
- 25:52Speaker 7: You know, everybody's looking at the United States and saying,
- 25:54Speaker 7: you know, I want what they have.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Hey, Steve Moore, they keep acting like the number one
- 26:00Speaker 2: issue is gas prices. It's the number one issue. Well,
- 26:04Speaker 2: a gas price is going up. Well, that could cost somebody,
- 26:06Speaker 2: you know, an extra a hundred dollars a month, but
- 26:09Speaker 2: Democrats have raised your electric bill, an extra 200 a month.
- 26:12Speaker 2: So isn't that the bigger problem, your electric costs?
- 26:16Speaker 1: Well, that's a big problem.
- 26:17Speaker 7: And, and it's true that the, uh, that the blue
- 26:20Speaker 7: states have much higher electric power costs. You know, we use,
- 26:25Speaker 7: in addition to gasoline, you know, oil that we use
- 26:28Speaker 7: in our tank for our cars, you know, we are
- 26:32Speaker 7: massive producers of natural gas. And that's part of the
- 26:38Speaker 7: great bounty from Trump's drill baby drill policy. And natural
- 26:42Speaker 7: gas is how we get most of our electric power.
- 26:44Speaker 7: A lot of people don't actually even know where we
- 26:46Speaker 7: get our electric power comes from. A lot of it
- 26:48Speaker 7: comes from natural gas, and a lot of it comes
- 26:50Speaker 7: from good old-fashioned coal. And so we are paying about
- 26:55Speaker 7: half as much as Europe pays because they went all
- 26:58Speaker 7: in for the green stuff, you know, the wind and solar,
- 27:01Speaker 7: which is fine, but it's not scalable. It's very expensive
- 27:05Speaker 7: to produce, and it's not reliable. So we have a
- 27:08Speaker 7: big advantage when it comes to energy. Now, on the
- 27:11Speaker 7: gas prices, yes, they are up, but one of the
- 27:13Speaker 7: things we point out in our hotline yesterday was that
- 27:18Speaker 7: Guess what states, Mark, have the highest gas prices?
- 27:23Speaker 2: Wild guess. Blue states?
- 27:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Guess which one?
- 27:28Speaker 2: California, New York?
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:31Speaker 7: I was just in Los Angeles about a week ago,
- 27:34Speaker 7: and it was like $ 6. 49 a gallon there. It's like
- 27:36Speaker 7: $ 1 to $ 1. 50 higher than other states. So I don't
- 27:42Speaker 7: get the logic. If you're angry about gas prices, I am.
- 27:45Speaker 7: I hate paying $ 80 to fill up my tank. But,
- 27:48Speaker 7: you know, you pay the highest gas prices in the
- 27:50Speaker 7: states that are run by Democrats. So do you think
- 27:52Speaker 7: they're going to lower the price when they get into power?
- 27:54Speaker 7: I doubt it.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah. But here in New York, Kathy Ogle blocking the
- 27:59Speaker 2: natural gas, Cuomo shutting down Indian Point, that quadrupled everybody's
- 28:03Speaker 2: electric bill. So what is the actual opposition to natural gas?
- 28:07Speaker 2: It's as clean as can be.
- 28:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:10Speaker 7: Do you remember that famous incident when Nancy Pelosi says, well,
- 28:14Speaker 7: I'm against fossil fuels, but I like natural gas? And
- 28:17Speaker 7: then somebody had to point out to the Speaker of
- 28:19Speaker 7: the House that natural gas is a fossil fuel.
- 28:22Speaker 1: But natural gas is clean. It's efficient. It's abundant. It's
- 28:25Speaker 1: made in America.
- 28:26Speaker 7: It should be the fuel of choice for America. And
- 28:29Speaker 7: we are producing a lot of it. We are now
- 28:33Speaker 7: the number one producer of natural gas, and we're the
- 28:35Speaker 7: number one producer of oil today.
- 28:38Speaker 1: So this drill baby drill policy is working.
- 28:41Speaker 7: The problem is we got all these problems overseas in
- 28:43Speaker 7: Russia and in the Middle East that are raising the
- 28:46Speaker 7: gas price.
- 28:47Speaker 1: It's not like there's a shortage of gas.
- 28:49Speaker 7: Now, Trump, you may have seen he's taking a lot
- 28:51Speaker 7: of flack for saying, well, this benefits the United States,
- 28:53Speaker 7: the fact that oil prices are high. I would not
- 28:55Speaker 7: have put it like that. But it is true that,
- 28:58Speaker 7: you know, when you and I were kids, we were, remember,
- 29:00Speaker 7: we're importing all this oil from Saudi Arabia and the
- 29:03Speaker 7: OPEC countries, and they had a stranglehold on the U.S.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Economy.
- 29:07Speaker 7: And the good news is now that we're the number
- 29:08Speaker 7: one producer, you can't have a cartel if you don't
- 29:11Speaker 7: have the number one producer in your cartel. So we've
- 29:14Speaker 7: really defanged OPEC in a very positive way by just
- 29:17Speaker 7: producing more oil and gas here at home in Texas
- 29:19Speaker 7: and Oklahoma and New Mexico. And by the way, one
- 29:23Speaker 7: of the states, Mark, that has the most oil is California.
- 29:28Speaker 7: And yet they refuse to go after it. And then
- 29:31Speaker 7: it'd be like Alaska running.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Out of ice.
- 29:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:35Speaker 2: So- Our economy, forget the gas prices, our economy otherwise
- 29:39Speaker 2: is doing very well. Is that the case all over
- 29:42Speaker 2: the world? Is everybody else doing very well with their economy?
- 29:47Speaker 2: Not Europe. Not Europe.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Europe.
- 29:50Speaker 7: And by the way, China has actually been in a
- 29:52Speaker 7: kind of a mini depression themselves. Their stock market's been flat,
- 29:55Speaker 7: whereas ours keeps going up and up and up.
- 29:58Speaker 1: But the big problem is socialist Europe.
- 30:00Speaker 7: Look what's happening in France, Italy, Germany, UK, real problems
- 30:05Speaker 7: in those countries.
- 30:07Speaker 1: And they are more socialist.
- 30:10Speaker 7: So why would we want to be more like them
- 30:13Speaker 7: when our economy is doing so much better? I don't
- 30:15Speaker 7: understand these Democrat socialists who say, oh, let's be more
- 30:17Speaker 7: like Germany. And Germany practically has de-industrialized their economy with
- 30:22Speaker 7: all of the socialism and the green energy stuff. So
- 30:25Speaker 7: We should not use Europe as a model. Europe is
- 30:29Speaker 7: now a model of what not to do.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Hey, this whole free everything, free buses, free the, it's
- 30:38Speaker 2: just a welfare system. Sometimes it's great, but sometimes can
- 30:42Speaker 2: be abused. What does this do to our economy, these expenses?
- 30:49Speaker 7: Well, I always like to go back to one of
- 30:51Speaker 7: my heroes, Ronald Reagan, who used to say, you know,
- 30:53Speaker 7: economy that's big enough, you know, I mean, a government
- 30:56Speaker 7: that's big enough to give you everything you want is
- 30:58Speaker 7: big enough to take everything you've got. And so, yeah,
- 31:01Speaker 7: we can have all this free stuff, but, you know,
- 31:03Speaker 7: who's going to pay for the free stuff? You know,
- 31:06Speaker 7: you and I are only going to raise our taxes
- 31:08Speaker 7: through the roof. And that's not a very good formula
- 31:11Speaker 7: for economic success. I mean, you should, you know, why
- 31:14Speaker 7: do people work? They work so they can get an
- 31:16Speaker 7: income so they can buy things. If you give everything
- 31:19Speaker 7: to people for free, free health care, free daycare, free food,
- 31:22Speaker 7: free housing, free this, free that, you think people are
- 31:24Speaker 7: going to go.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Out and work?
- 31:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Medicare, too. Now they're pushing this Medicare for all. Has
- 31:29Speaker 2: this ever worked anywhere, this kind of government health care
- 31:32Speaker 2: for all?
- 31:33Speaker 7: Well, I hope people will go to our website at
- 31:35Speaker 7: UnleashPosperity.com and look at our new ad that shows that
- 31:40Speaker 7: Medicare for all, it's basically Democrats are going to destroy
- 31:44Speaker 7: Medicare because Medicare for all means nobody's going to get
- 31:47Speaker 7: Medicare I mean, it's already in shaky finances. They want
- 31:50Speaker 7: to add 100 million more people to it. I mean,
- 31:53Speaker 7: that's going to bankrupt Medicare. So seniors should be very
- 31:56Speaker 7: nervous about this. This is a terrible idea. It's a
- 31:59Speaker 7: Bernie Sanders idea. Put everybody on Medicare. Everybody gets free
- 32:02Speaker 7: health care. You know, I don't know what that health
- 32:04Speaker 7: care is going to look like, but I don't think
- 32:05Speaker 7: it should be very good quality care. And seniors who
- 32:09Speaker 7: depend on Medicare are going to lose the quality care
- 32:13Speaker 7: that they get right now from Medicare. So It's a
- 32:16Speaker 7: really terrible idea. It puts Medicare in danger, and seniors
- 32:20Speaker 7: should really think about whether that's what you want because
- 32:23Speaker 7: a majority of the Democrats in Congress support Bernie Sanders' bill,
- 32:27Speaker 7: Medicare for All.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Yeah. And why is that? I mean, it doesn't work.
- 32:33Speaker 2: It's never worked. It always stinks. Is there unions involved?
- 32:36Speaker 2: Is there some reason these congressmen and women want to
- 32:40Speaker 2: do this?
- 32:41Speaker 7: They think that this is the way to lower– the
- 32:45Speaker 7: prices for healthcare. Now, look, I'm not a big fan
- 32:48Speaker 7: of the insurance, health insurance companies. I do think we
- 32:50Speaker 7: pay way too much for healthcare. I think most people
- 32:53Speaker 7: would agree with that, but it's because we have too
- 32:55Speaker 7: much government, not too little. If we had a free
- 32:57Speaker 7: market in healthcare, if we paid for healthcare the way
- 33:00Speaker 7: we pay for everything else, I think you could cut
- 33:02Speaker 7: healthcare costs significantly, but it's because the government, you know,
- 33:06Speaker 7: you've seen those charts, Mark. What are the two industries
- 33:09Speaker 7: over the last 50 years that have had the highest
- 33:11Speaker 7: increase in prices? education and healthcare, both run by government.
- 33:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:16Speaker 4: Wow.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Well, interesting stuff. That's why you should get the hotline.
- 33:19Speaker 2: It's the best daily briefing every day. It's free. Absolutely.
