- 0:00Speaker 1: So I walked into the studio today after having been
- 0:02Speaker 1: away for a week, and there was this huge gift
- 0:06Speaker 1: basket here, and I thought, that's so nice of you
- 0:08Speaker 1: guys to get this for me.
- 0:09Speaker 2: We missed you so much, we got you a gift basket.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I mean, it's a big, beautiful basket of all kinds of. Treats,
- 0:18Speaker 1: I guess. Goodies. Snack food. Junk food.
- 0:21Speaker 2: There's a nice card from World Market there who are
- 0:24Speaker 2: friends of the program.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Oh, that's nice of them.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 0:26Speaker 1: So it wasn't for me specifically.
- 0:28Speaker 2: No. It actually specifically has all three of our names
- 0:31Speaker 2: on the card.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Okay. So thank you, World Market. But there are two
- 0:37Speaker 1: other gifts here. And as I understand it, one is
- 0:40Speaker 1: for all of us.
- 0:41Speaker 3: One is for all of us and one is for you.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Specifically for me. Which one do you want? Should we
- 0:45Speaker 1: do first? Because I don't know what they are.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Let's do yours first.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I think this is the one. And these are from
- 0:53Speaker 1: Sketchy Blake. Is that right?
- 0:54Speaker 2: I think so.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I think so. Is that right, Katie? Sketchy Blake of Ogden? Yeah,
- 0:59Speaker 1: it is.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Okay.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Let's see what it says here. Bill, remember back in
- 1:03Speaker 1: the day people used to shoot arrows into the belly
- 1:08Speaker 1: of the China Knight Buddha?
- 1:09Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That's true. I hope you enjoy this little bit of
- 1:13Speaker 1: Ogden history, Sketchy Blake. I think I know what it is,
- 1:17Speaker 1: and you know, Blake... Oh, no, it isn't what I
- 1:21Speaker 1: thought it was. I have a China Knight T-shirt that
- 1:24Speaker 1: I was just wearing this past weekend that my wife
- 1:26Speaker 1: gave me for Christmas. There he is. Is it a mug?
- 1:30Speaker 1: It's the China Knight Buddha. That's what the sign looked like.
- 1:35Speaker 2: But is that like an action figure?
- 1:37Speaker 1: It's just a little plastic statue of the China Knight.
- 1:41Speaker 1: And I think we should probably.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Is it a hood ornament or something?
- 1:45Speaker 1: We should... Yeah, somebody in Ogden, I'm sure, you know,
- 1:49Speaker 1: like somebody in Ogden made that China Night t-shirt.
- 1:51Speaker 3: They probably 3D printed that.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Oh, it says here, this is Ogden.com. Oh. This is Ogden.com,
- 1:57Speaker 1: so I bet you can find all kinds of stuff.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I think we ought to get some little arrows and
- 2:02Speaker 1: stick them in his belly, except it's really hard plastic. Well,
- 2:06Speaker 1: thank you, Blake. I'll just glue them on. Now, do
- 2:08Speaker 1: you want to open this one to you? I don't know,
- 2:11Speaker 1: it's for all of us. Yeah, it's... Also from Sketchy Blake.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I believe it is an Oreo taste test.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 2:19Speaker 2: These are the three new. Blake says, enjoy some new
- 2:24Speaker 2: cookies while I'm stuck in Vegas. Sketchy Blake. We talked
- 2:27Speaker 2: about this when you were here, Bill.
- 2:28Speaker 1: I remember that. We've got the.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Chicken and waffles Oreos, which I'm a little nervous about.
- 2:34Speaker 2: We've got nanner pudding.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Ooh, there's my nanner pudding.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Does it say nanner pudding or does it say banana pudding?
- 2:44Speaker 3: Isn't that how you say that?
- 2:46Speaker 1: Behold!
- 2:47Speaker 2: Here, Terry, you can start with the nanner pudding.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I want some nanner pudding.
- 2:52Speaker 2: And then the one I'm excited about, deep fried Oreos.
- 2:56Speaker 2: They are not actually deep fried, but supposedly the flavor
- 3:00Speaker 2: is a deep fried Oreo flavor.
- 3:02Speaker 1: They just have grease on them.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Here, Billy, you can try chicken and waffles first.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:12Speaker 2: See, now I love a deep fried, like an actual,
- 3:14Speaker 2: at the fair, deep fried Oreo. I love a deep
- 3:16Speaker 2: fried Oreo.
- 3:17Speaker 1: We went to the, well, the first one I get
- 3:20Speaker 1: out of the package is broken. Quality control.
- 3:27Speaker 3: We don't have that anymore.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Anywhere.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Quality control is gone.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Oh, I see what they did here. So, there's an
- 3:37Speaker 2: Oreo cookie in the middle. And then there are other
- 3:40Speaker 2: cookies on the outside that are supposed to be like
- 3:43Speaker 2: the deep fried.
- 3:44Speaker 3: The deep fried flavor? Are actually pretty good.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I approve of this message.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I declare the Nana pudding pretty good.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Here, let's try. They're over here.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Here.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Gina's got them.
- 3:58Speaker 1: The chicken and waffle. The chicken and waffle.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Does it taste like maple?
- 4:04Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of. There's sort of a maple-y flavor. It's...
- 4:09Speaker 1: perhaps reminiscent. I mean, they don't taste bad.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Oh, they made it look like a waffle, though.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't notice that.
- 4:15Speaker 2: It doesn't look like a traditional Oreo. It looks like
- 4:17Speaker 2: a waffle. Okay. As predicted, my favorite is the... Because
- 4:25Speaker 2: I love any... I'll eat pretty much anything deep fried, so.
- 4:28Speaker 3: The chocolate tastes off in the deep fried one.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Mmm. I like this one. The banana pudding's okay. Okay,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I need to fry this.
- 4:39Speaker 2: You know what would probably be good? The banana pudding
- 4:42Speaker 2: crumbled up in some actual banana pudding. What do you
- 4:45Speaker 2: need to try?
- 4:45Speaker 1: Yeah, the deep fried. There you go.
- 4:53Speaker 2: And the deep fried one would taste good crumbled up
- 4:55Speaker 2: in some vanilla ice cream.
- 4:59Speaker 3: The chicken and waffle smells maple-y.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It tastes maple-y. That's really all you get. I don't
- 5:06Speaker 1: get no chicken. They should have put feathers in it
- 5:09Speaker 1: or something.
- 5:12Speaker 2: You shouldn't have a chicken cookie. That's weird.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Have you never had chicken in a biscuit?
- 5:20Speaker 3: It's not a cookie. That's a cracker.
- 5:22Speaker 4: So what they're attempting to do is the chicken part
- 5:27Speaker 4: is not necessarily chicken, but the crispy coating is what
- 5:33Speaker 4: they're after.
- 5:36Speaker 1: They're trying to fake you out. Yeah, I don't care
- 5:38Speaker 1: for these deep-fried ones at all. At all?
- 5:41Speaker 2: Nope. You hate them?
- 5:43Speaker 1: Of the three, I just... More for.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Me, then.
- 5:46Speaker 1: They're all for you, Gina, really.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Now we're going to have Oreo teeth.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Oreo teeth?
- 5:52Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Because when you don't drink milk with Oreos, you.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Get Oreo teeth. Again, you make problems out of nothing.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Oreo teeth is a problem.
- 6:02Speaker 2: See, look. Huh? I got Oreo teeth.
- 6:06Speaker 1: You know, there is a solution to that. What?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Water.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Drink some water.
- 6:10Speaker 2: I don't have any.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I really like this.
- 6:12Speaker 3: She doesn't have any water.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I know she doesn't. I really like this Buddha, though.
- 6:16Speaker 1: This is so cool.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Someone has found a picture of the Buddha.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. And the only.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Mistake made here is that the China Knight sign should.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Be sideways and not front ways. Oh, not just hold
- 6:28Speaker 1: it like that.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Because that's what it looked like in the photo.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Yeah. As I recall, and I think this is true,
- 6:36Speaker 1: our old friend Steven Peterson, who passed away recently, his uncle,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I believe, designed that sign. Really? The Buddha? His uncle's
- 6:47Speaker 1: an architect. And I believe he designed that sign.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Is it still there?
- 6:52Speaker 1: No. It is gone. Trinidad? Yep. The building is gone. Oh,
- 6:58Speaker 1: the whole building is gone. It's tore down.
- 7:03Speaker 2: It was opened by the Hong family. Let's see.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 7:13Speaker 2: In 1963 to 2005.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I took my date there for prom. Well, you did.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 1: It's the only prom I ever went to.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Star noodle parlor. That's a different place. Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Star noodle. We used to go to, after the bars closed,
- 7:29Speaker 1: star noodle would be open, still open. We'd go to
- 7:31Speaker 1: star noodle and have, uh, uh, What we called at
- 7:34Speaker 1: the time deep fried vegetables. It was tempura vegetables. We
- 7:39Speaker 1: didn't know what they were. We didn't know what they were.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And I think it was mostly carrots, but they were
- 7:45Speaker 1: just delicious.
- 7:46Speaker 2: This says the restaurant building was demolished. It's now a
- 7:48Speaker 2: vacant lot. However, the famous statue survived and was later
- 7:52Speaker 2: spotted in a North Ogden backyard while other pieces of
- 7:56Speaker 2: signage turned up in Brigham City. Local community members continue
- 8:00Speaker 2: to reminisce about the landmark and hope to see its
- 8:02Speaker 2: pieces in a museum.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Anything at all about who designed it?
- 8:06Speaker 2: No.
- 8:07Speaker 1: All right. Well, there you go. So Oreos and China night.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It's been a full show.
- 8:13Speaker 2: It has.
- 8:13Speaker 1: We can go home now.
