- 0:11Thank you God for these words. Thank you Lord for church.
- 0:14Thank you God for who you are. Thank you, Father, that you love
- 0:20us, Lord, and that we can come to know you and be known by you.
- 0:26Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus for marriages.
- 0:30Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus for prodigals.
- 0:33God, I pray you'll bring them home.
- 0:35Restore marriages, God, restore families, Lord, heal us.
- 0:40Heal our broken bodies. Heal us, God, of all of our
- 0:44infirmities. God, I pray that we will live
- 0:49lives that are meaningful and purposeful.
- 0:53Help us to live lives that are pleasing unto you.
- 0:57Teach us your eternal paths today.
- 1:00Show up and show off, Lord. It's in your holy and precious
- 1:07name, King Jesus, that I pray. Amen.
- 1:13Well, let's start in verse one, that which was from the
- 1:18beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our
- 1:24eyes, which we have looked upon and our hands have handled the
- 1:29word of life in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
- 1:35with God, and the Word was God. And here John wants us to know
- 1:42that they actually had fellowship with Jesus Christ,
- 1:47who is the Word. How amazing is it that we hold
- 1:52the Word in our hands and this word is alive and active and
- 1:59heaven and earth shall pass away, but not one of His words.
- 2:08This is gravity. Friends, you need to understand
- 2:13that the Bible is not something to place on the shelf to collect
- 2:17dust, open it up and read it and know it and learn it and own it
- 2:24and hide it. Friends, do not be those who
- 2:29just want to be spoon fed or want to watch sermons and little
- 2:34short videos in clips. We need to be students of the
- 2:41Word of God from Genesis to Revelation 66 book Canon.
- 2:47Nothing added and nothing subtracted God's complete
- 2:51authority for our lives. And He came, and He dwelt among
- 2:57us. Emmanuel 2 For the life was
- 3:02manifested, and we have seen it. And bear witness and show unto
- 3:09you that eternal life which was with the Father and was
- 3:15manifested unto us. So the apostles, the disciples,
- 3:20they actually got to sit with him and talk with him, discourse
- 3:25with him. And now, after his ascension and
- 3:30after Pentecost and the Holy Spirit comes and dwells within
- 3:34them, they saw and they finally understood that Jesus was the
- 3:40Christ, the long-awaited Messiah.
- 3:43And you can see that they are reliable eyewitnesses of it.
- 3:50This is not just fairy tales. This is not just a feel good
- 3:56book about another religious teacher.
- 4:01This is not basic instructions before leaving earth.
- 4:07This is all authority. This is God Almighty breathed
- 4:16upon. This has wait for every single
- 4:24person who has ever been born, is living or will be born.
- 4:28This is the authority for all lands and all people groups, all
- 4:34countries and all languages. This is the authority over their
- 4:40lives. This is God the only uncreated
- 4:43Almighty. The God of Abraham, Isaac and
- 4:46Jacob is the only one true living God.
- 4:52And he revealed his son to the entire world, and everything got
- 4:58flipped right side up. 3 That which we have seen and heard
- 5:06declare we unto you, that you also may have fellowship with
- 5:12us. And truly our fellowship is with
- 5:17the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
- 5:21That is the intention of John as he wants the entire world to
- 5:26have fellowship with God Almighty through His Son Jesus
- 5:31Christ. And that is the only way that
- 5:33you can be at one with God and have peace with God is by being
- 5:39covered in the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 5:41That was spilled out for us on Calvary 4.
- 5:47And these things right we unto you, that your joy may be full.
- 5:56So this joy that is available to us, we must take it, friends.
- 6:05We must choose it, friends, in light of all of our external
- 6:14circumstances. We choose joy.
- 6:17We choose to live in light of eternity, not believing all of
- 6:22the lies of this world and the deception of the enemy, not
- 6:26believing all of our feelings and emotions, but choosing to
- 6:33believe that God is and that He rewards those who diligently
- 6:38seek Him. And we have an eternal abode
- 6:40with Him forevermore that is incorruptible regardless of our
- 6:45external circumstances. 5 This then is the message which we
- 6:57have heard of Him, and declare to you, that God is light, and
- 7:05in Him is no darkness at all. He there is no shadow of
- 7:11shifting. God is, and we must believe that
- 7:17first. We must believe that He is the
- 7:23great I am, and He dwells in unapproachable light.
- 7:29There is no shadow or shifting. There is no darkness at all.
- 7:36God is good, and good is God, and we are eternally thankful
- 7:41and grateful because God the only God.
- 7:49There is no other God. It's only God is good.
- 7:56What a reason for us to rejoice. There is no evil in God.
- 8:06He is light and Jesus showed us that.
- 8:10And if we look to Jesus then we can see God. 6 If we say that we
- 8:19have fellowship with him and walk in darkness, we lie and do
- 8:24not the truth. You cannot live in perpetual sin
- 8:31and have fellowship with God, who is light.
- 8:37Darkness and light do not cohabitate.
- 8:39The light expels the darkness. And this is not somebody who is
- 8:47tripping up. This is somebody who is living
- 8:50in perpetual sin, and then they lie about being in fellowship
- 8:53with God. God does not have fellowship
- 8:56with darkness, and you need to understand that the only way
- 9:00that we could ever stand in the presence of an Almighty God is
- 9:03because of the blood of Jesus Christ covering us.
- 9:07And blessed is the man whose sins will never be counted
- 9:10against him. And if you understand that, then
- 9:14you can have fellowship with God, because you will
- 9:17immediately experience conviction, and you will confess
- 9:21those sins, and you will turn from those sins, and you will
- 9:24not live in perpetual sin. 7 But if we walk in the light, as He
- 9:35is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and
- 9:40the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
- 9:47That is a beautiful picture of what it looks like, this
- 9:49Koinonia, this one another ring one another, the fellowship in
- 9:54the commonality friends that we will have with one another.
- 9:58When two people are in right relationship with God, they will
- 10:02naturally have fellowship with each other.
- 10:09And when we understand the our position is in Christ Jesus,
- 10:19then we will not want to sin. And when we do not if but when
- 10:24we do sin, we will immediately have conviction and we will turn
- 10:30from those things. And the Holy Spirit speaks to
- 10:33us, and he whispers softly and gently that that is not from
- 10:38God, and to confess it and to turn from it.
- 10:43But if we sear our consciences and grieve the Holy Spirit, we
- 10:49do not have fellowship with God and we will not have fellowship
- 10:55with each other. And this is where so much
- 10:58division and dissension, this is where so much of the problems
- 11:04within the body of Christ come from, is because we are not in
- 11:08right relationship with God. And you can tell when somebody
- 11:14is out of step because they will have a spirit that is
- 11:24cantankerous, they will have a spirit that picks you apart.
- 11:33They will always have something smart to say about every little
- 11:38thing. And you can tell that they are
- 11:43not in right relationship with God.
- 11:48This critical spirit that creeps in and they just want to try to
- 11:53pick every little thing apart is a sure sign of somebody who is
- 11:58out of lockstep with God Almighty. 8 If we say that we
- 12:07have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not
- 12:12in us. So what a beautiful verse.
- 12:15Highlight it, underline it. Write it in the margins.
- 12:18Put it in your journal. Save it as a screensaver.
- 12:21Friends, it's not if we sin, it's when we sin.
- 12:26But the difference is conviction, not condemnation.
- 12:30When you sin because you will, you immediately know that it is
- 12:35sin and that will cause you to move away from it.
- 12:42Don't adopt it, don't live in it, don't make your identity in
- 12:46your sin. But just know that love covers a
- 12:52multitude of sin, and Jesus's love on the cross was enough.
- 12:57Jesus's blood is enough. It's not Jesus's blood plus
- 13:03works, friends, it's only the blood of Jesus Christ that gets
- 13:07us into heaven. And if you think that you are
- 13:13standing, you just might be falling. 9 If we confess our
- 13:20sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to
- 13:26cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 13:29This is the work of the cross, friends.
- 13:32This is what Jesus did for us, friends.
- 13:36Confess when you have your shortcomings and you sin,
- 13:40receive forgiveness and then forgive yourself and extend
- 13:46forgiveness out to others. We'll end on 10 If we say that
- 13:53we have not sinned, we make him a liar and His word is not in
- 14:00US. No one can save themselves.
- 14:03No one is perfect. There was only one that was
- 14:06perfect. His name is Jesus Christ.
- 14:08That's who we trust in. We don't trust in self.
- 14:13We don't trust in our ability to live a perfect sinless life.
- 14:18We're not like the rich young ruler friends who think that we
- 14:23have it all together. You need to know that you are a
- 14:27Sinner and that you are in desperate need of a Savior.
- 14:34And that is where we start. That's the starting point.
- 14:37That's the building block, friends, is that we trust in Him
- 14:42and Him alone. Jesus's blood is enough.
- 14:48I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 14:51Word. I know I sure have.
- 14:53I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 14:55I love you and we'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 14:58God bless you.
