- 0:00Speaker 1: Back with Gino Oriema.
- 0:01Speaker 2: The Huskies back at it on Sunday when they take
- 0:04Speaker 2: on the Paul Blue Demons.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Depfist joins me on.
- 0:06Speaker 2: The broadcast is always twelve thirty on the Yukon Sports Network,
- 0:09Speaker 2: Varsity Network App, and the Varsity Network dot Com. In fact,
- 0:12Speaker 2: we've got games Friday, Saturday and Sunday this coming weekend
- 0:17Speaker 2: with the Hall of Fame head coach as Huskies get
- 0:20Speaker 2: set for the Paul Gino. Kk Arnold I think has
- 0:22Speaker 2: been has improved greatly.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of pressure on her. Obviously,
- 0:27Speaker 1: with both.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Page and Caitlyn moving on, She's now the point guard.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Her assistant turnover ratio is really good, and she continues
- 0:34Speaker 2: to do what KK does best, hassled defensively.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I mean, she's really getting after it again.
- 0:40Speaker 3: That's what you want to see, you know. You want
- 0:43Speaker 3: players to establish an identity, you know, a reputation. This
- 0:49Speaker 3: is who I am, this is what I do, and
- 0:52Speaker 3: then live it, you know, every game. The thing we
- 0:57Speaker 3: talk about a lot is you can't be like, well,
- 1:00Speaker 3: sometimes she is and sometimes she's not. Well, then that
- 1:03Speaker 3: means you're not you know, uh, you have to be
- 1:06Speaker 3: that every single night that we play. And Kk's gotten
- 1:10Speaker 3: to that point where we know what we're going to
- 1:13Speaker 3: get every single night. She's going to be that defensive
- 1:16Speaker 3: uh kind of menaced that we need her to be.
- 1:20Speaker 3: She's gonna set a tone for us, uh with with
- 1:24Speaker 3: the pressure. Yeah, she is going to push the ball,
- 1:28Speaker 3: uh and push the pace and keep the pace going.
- 1:32Speaker 3: That's you know, that's the growth that she's made. That
- 1:37Speaker 3: that the and and that's something again a Connecticut thing
- 1:41Speaker 3: that we try to stress to our players as they
- 1:44Speaker 3: get a little bit older, that we need you to
- 1:47Speaker 3: be consistent. We need to know what we're going to
- 1:50Speaker 3: get every night. And uh, you know, her confidence is
- 1:55Speaker 3: way high off with her yesterday about this and you know,
- 1:59Speaker 3: she feels like she's in a great place and knows
- 2:03Speaker 3: her game, knows herself. So I'm I'm absolutely thrilled with
- 2:10Speaker 3: with with where KK is right now.
- 2:13Speaker 2: You know, if I told you, speaking of guards, that
- 2:16Speaker 2: Ashland Shade was one of your best offensive rebounders, what
- 2:20Speaker 2: would be your response to that? Because I think I
- 2:22Speaker 2: don't think there's been a game this year yet where
- 2:24Speaker 2: she hasn't had at least one offensive rebound.
- 2:28Speaker 3: No, she's she's done. You know, she's done a lot
- 2:31Speaker 3: of great things. You know, the the ball happens to
- 2:34Speaker 3: go in, sometimes it doesn't go in sometimes, you know,
- 2:37Speaker 3: and and and she's gotten off to like not a
- 2:40Speaker 3: great start shooting the ball. But I think you can
- 2:46Speaker 3: make up for a lot of things. Good shooting makes
- 2:51Speaker 3: up for a lot of things. You know. So when
- 2:53Speaker 3: you shoot the ball, people think you play great, and
- 2:55Speaker 3: you might have been terrible and everything else, you know,
- 2:58Speaker 3: so not the bow well and getting involved and you know,
- 3:03Speaker 3: what are we doing defensively? You know, what are we
- 3:05Speaker 3: doing on the offensive boards? What are we doing on
- 3:07Speaker 3: you know, on the defensive boards? You know, uh, you
- 3:10Speaker 3: know those kinds of things. You know, can we get
- 3:12Speaker 3: to the basket a little bit more so? Those things
- 3:16Speaker 3: that that I think indicate how you're playing. She's she's
- 3:21Speaker 3: still doing those things. And I eventually, like they always do,
- 3:26Speaker 3: you know, the shots start dropping and and you have
- 3:29Speaker 3: to go with you know, past history. And that's what
- 3:32Speaker 3: they do.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Want to ask you about Chalice Fisher. I haven't mentioned
- 3:36Speaker 2: her name at all this season. Last couple of games,
- 3:38Speaker 2: late in games, she's she's contributed me in a couple
- 3:41Speaker 2: of nice plays. What are your thoughts on her development
- 3:43Speaker 2: so far and where when uh? And is she heading
- 3:46Speaker 2: in the right direction as a young freshman.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Well, you know, I think in the in the time
- 3:54Speaker 3: that she's been on the court, Uh, I think people
- 3:58Speaker 3: can see uh both sides of of of Kalise. You know,
- 4:03Speaker 3: one is uh kind of raw and kind of not sure,
- 4:11Speaker 3: sometimes just uh like wandering around or sometimes overly aggressive,
- 4:25Speaker 3: kind of out of control. And then you see other
- 4:28Speaker 3: times when you when you watch her and you think
- 4:31Speaker 3: she's unique on our team. There's nobody that can get
- 4:35Speaker 3: to the basket better than better than Kalise. Uh. She
- 4:40Speaker 3: hasn't shown defensively as much as she can do, but
- 4:44Speaker 3: she will. Uh. But when we put her in a
- 4:48Speaker 3: ball screen, man, she's she's way different than anybody else
- 4:54Speaker 3: that we have uh in that regard, so little by little,
- 4:59Speaker 3: you know.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Uh.
- 5:01Speaker 3: You know, she's young in a lot of ways. And uh,
- 5:05Speaker 3: I think as she grows and as she matures, hopefully
- 5:08Speaker 3: throughout the season, I'm gonna use her more simply because
- 5:12Speaker 3: she is so different.
- 5:15Speaker 1: What are your thoughts at easy so far?
- 5:17Speaker 2: It just seems that she has the conference level that
- 5:21Speaker 2: we haven't seen in past years because she's completely healthy now.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, as he's kind of a I've said
- 5:36Speaker 3: this before. You know, she's kind of an enigma. You know,
- 5:38Speaker 3: you're you're, you're quite taken by uh her incredible uh
- 5:45Speaker 3: shooting stroke and how she gets her shout off, and
- 5:48Speaker 3: how beautiful it is, and how great her footwork is,
- 5:52Speaker 3: and and and and you you expect unfairly. I would
- 5:58Speaker 3: say that every time she shoots the ball, it's going
- 6:01Speaker 3: in that there's no way that this kid could ever
- 6:04Speaker 3: miss the shot. And she does go through moments or stretches,
- 6:10Speaker 3: long stretches where that's exactly what happens, And so people
- 6:14Speaker 3: begin to go, you know, wow, you mean she went
- 6:20Speaker 3: five for fourteen or whatever. That's not possible. Well, you know,
- 6:25Speaker 3: human beings, that's what happens. You know, the best players
- 6:29Speaker 3: in the world shoot fifty percent. You know, you're not
- 6:33Speaker 3: going to shoot sixty percent from the three point line
- 6:35Speaker 3: in the whole season. I mean, I hope she does.
- 6:36Speaker 3: She's certainly capable, but that's certainly not that's certainly not,
- 6:41Speaker 3: you know, by any chance normal. So I think she's
- 6:49Speaker 3: in a great, great place, the confidence that she has,
- 6:57Speaker 3: I think as well as she's shooting the ball now,
- 7:00Speaker 3: I think she's playing even better than she was shooting it. Defensively,
- 7:06Speaker 3: she's she's a lot more solid and on the ball stuff,
- 7:15Speaker 3: and she's gotten better at recognizing off the ball stuff.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I hope I should say I wish you would get
- 7:24Speaker 3: to the free throw a line more because you know
- 7:27Speaker 3: she's a terrific pre pro shooter, and you know she
- 7:31Speaker 3: proved that in the Michigan game that she can make
- 7:35Speaker 3: them any time. But yeah, I would. I would say,
- 7:39Speaker 3: right now, you know, how can I get her even
- 7:43Speaker 3: more shots? And and let's see why not? Why can't
- 7:48Speaker 3: she shoot fifty percent from the three point line?
- 7:50Speaker 2: More with Gino here on the UKN Women's Basketball Coaches Show.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Coming up in a minute here on Learfield. Stay with
