- 0:10Now here's the lie. I've already met them before, but we pretend
- 0:17that we do it again. Okay, it's so big the meeting. If
- 0:25that's right, We're no photography correct me. I'm going to get up to
- 0:33ring control of the buttons here, so I have to chose. I'm sorry,
- 0:38shop, this isn't going to be a very serious, so you can
- 0:41take the days off. I want to talk for politics and religion and financial
- 0:46amountage. That's better. That's heavy that you guys are actually a later distant
- 1:04pick Ganga jan corn outline have been, well, you have to remember that
- 1:14we are in the entertainment and you know, like if the Beatles war would
- 1:21all go and then we would walk in after and we would be in,
- 1:32they wouldn't even wouldn't. I don't know what I'm saying, just it makes
- 1:37sense. Well you know it be we're way better than gang Jene take your
- 1:45gang, your genie in the already, that's right, absolutely, because we
- 1:53can replace something. They are friends of mine and I hope they're reason for
- 1:57not being here. It's not you know, that's right to present what smart
- 2:15obviously smarter than me at the moment. What time is If it's afternoon,
- 2:23that's when I getting on the smart smart. So anyway, I think you
- 2:29guys have been done that with pretty much everything around the world, best the
- 2:31wise. So watch us to have something like you because it's weird and unusual,
- 2:38different from the town is beautiful and abstract and it's like out of the
- 2:44world. And let's face it, I hate Sidney. I love I even
- 2:53love Melbourne, and I hate Sidney because I grew up there and when it
- 3:01was beautiful and when it got into the nineties, everybody thought about money.
- 3:06It is reportedly the tenth most expensive city to live in the world. Let's
- 3:13forget city and let's talk about it. Sounds worth that time I heard about
- 3:23it before this week he was some band calldn't build it and we were asked
- 3:28to build it. And so that's what I heard about it that I did
- 3:31go to street you and Google and have a look at go okay, way
- 3:37to go in That looks bloody cool. That's plus. Actually, ever thought
- 3:43you're like wanted repet we already made that joke where we arrived? What's a
- 3:52part? Hang on? What's a piecross? Okay? Anyway, so you
- 4:00know, like it was some joke. Does anybody remember the Poe costs joke?
- 4:06Anyway? Come on in, Hey Jude, I've already shun it to
- 4:26I don't want to finish her in. Yeah, I can't remember. A
- 4:39guy was The guy was walking, you know, he was pushing a trolley
- 4:44down the road and it got away from him and it hit somebody else and
- 4:49the guy goes, you know, what the hell was that? He goes,
- 4:53there was a pie Copts And he goes, what's a pie cops?
- 4:56He goes, two dollars fifty? Aren't you now? It's four dollars fifteen
- 5:00if you're lucky? Yeah, maybe seven. Yeah. I hate Sittney.
- 5:08I don't live that. I don't know. I grew up there. So
- 5:21The choir Boys aka yourself Mark have been a staple of the Aussian music diet
- 5:26since in late seventies. What is a poor memory? View? That just
- 5:30sticks out every time you think back ob your career. When when you ask
- 5:33that, a lot of people ask that question. I think about when we
- 5:38supported New Night or at Selene. It was Kugubay Hotel, which is an
- 5:44amusing type. And you know, back in the eighties time, I've never
- 5:48seen anything like you know, back then, right when bands performed a vand
- 5:55like Midnight or were astonishing right in front of the rewarding the Australian Ladas.
- 6:01Then a couple of years later I saw them at Madison Square Garden. Wasn't
- 6:05the same way. Yeah, I really laid the volgame should be wearing a
- 6:15skirt, so you know, but that night I've been alike and the intensity
- 6:26of it was just just amazing. Yeah, that was a good question.
- 6:36Yes, if you could revive and relive any era, if you could go
- 6:45back there two days, when would it be sitting there? You know.
- 6:54One I don't really want to revive in you because I wouldn't like it.
- 7:00Now I'm an internet and a check and I you know, we do live
- 7:04streaming from my studio and I enjoy them. But I guess if I were
- 7:10to go back, I'd have to go back to not just the era,
- 7:15but the location because I grew up on the Northern Beaches. Sorry about that.
- 7:21I can't help it. It's like a trick now it's out a chicken
- 7:27the Noll, the beaches in the sevenies amazing. There was no pressure.
- 7:33I don't remember anybody thinking about money. Everybody had cheap cars and houses would
- 7:39cheat. Life is simple and women were treated like people. Believe it or
- 7:44not. It was amazing. Yeah that didn't happen. Yeah, they did
- 7:47happen. They didn't have to. They didn't. They didn't have to go
- 7:51down the beach with things up their bums, so the so their bums were
- 7:57hanging out, none of that, you know, it was just you and
- 8:00managed to wear speedos. So then we're to see what they're going to get.
- 8:03So it's so it was there was a I don't know. It was
- 8:09just simple. And so if I was going to say that i'd go back
- 8:15in back to the seventh I wouldn't want to be there for long. So
- 8:18I'm really enjoying now as well. You know, it's like, you know,
- 8:22get getting on, you know, watching YouTube shorts, you know Netflix.
- 8:30You know, I'm watching Tom Cruise a lot. It's cool, mate,
- 8:39It's weird. What a religious strange word to the scientology or anything like
- 8:45that. I'm just yeah, yeah it doesn't. I could tell you a
- 8:48story, but I want thank you. I want to hear it. It
- 8:54happened today or rider, and I haven't asked him permission. Now I will
- 9:01come. I'll tell you the story, but I'll leave the individual. This
- 9:07is the individual out of it. But it was her mother and she.
- 9:13You know, they were ever party because the mother's daughter had done something special
- 9:20and Dale, right, if you don't know Boom crash opera singer, you
- 9:24know, the mother said let's go to the talk so they wouldn't have a
- 9:28talk, and she's she's a scientologist. And when okay, say wanted another
- 9:37room, talked for twenty minutes and at the end of it, she wrote
- 9:43an invoice for one hundred and fifty dollars And I was like, I was
- 9:50like flabbergaster because I said, Dale, did you payly? Go here?
- 9:54And I didn't, you know, I didn't want to care receive what.
- 10:03It's not about raw, It's just me. But I'm not too I don't
- 10:09know. I have an over mind. I have no beliefs. That isn't
- 10:13it good when someone you do that? How good is it that that's wise?
- 10:18But I think about him jumping from the captain, Yeah, that was
- 10:26uncomfortable than marks a lot. That's over there's so much he loves Sydney.
- 10:41Next, excuse me, what about YouTube? I'm leaving. Hey, you
- 10:52love it to make, don't y nome dude? So remember let anyway when
- 11:09you fi Okay, I'm a woman. I know we're not doing that.
- 11:16Listen, you gotta stole where I was going with the next one. But
- 11:22setting the scene, we are in the seventies in your beloved Sydney. What
- 11:26are you doing on the typical weekend? What what were you guys up to?
- 11:31Well, I used to live at Clever and I used to have a
- 11:35full trap chake. So we come up there and do demos, and we
- 11:41do demos back in the rehearsal studio that we had, remember over on sure
- 11:50somewhere. Yeah, and so we do demos and it's some shining all the
- 11:58time. It never happened, right, It was never too hot. It
- 12:03was just I used to have a mini moke and so yeah, and then
- 12:09we do demos and I gave it to herm COVID drama from TMG, and
- 12:15he gave it to George Young and Harry Vander of album's production. And then
- 12:20George called me up said yes, and this is on the on one of
- 12:28the phones. Yeah, it's charge. Yeah, I love what you're getting
- 12:41together this chat. So that's how the start. Yeah, so there you
- 12:46go. That's and that wasn't a question, but that's what we used to
- 12:50do on our weekends. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yes, And
- 12:56you got to remember it was like, you know, well really we started
- 13:01mid seventies, played seventies. It was like Cultures or the Angels and you
- 13:05know, somebody said to me, once again Culture Angels do a gig and
- 13:11they got eleven thousand dollars. Wowiest of it was amazing. So you had
- 13:20all these bands coming was in critical time watch. But I'd have to point
- 13:28out now there are more Australian acts breaking overseas and working when they ever had
- 13:35the course of the internet. The we are they writing any good times?
- 13:46Are they? I'm asking the question absolutely, thank you? Absolutely yeah yes,
- 13:54actually yeah was he music under So I just dropped the F bomb?
- 14:03Sorry man, sorry about that. The City Deadney anyway, So anyway,
- 14:18you've played the best and the worst of Australia. Surely you've been in every
- 14:22milk and Branny and played every where's your Where's your veal? And you love
- 14:28where other than today ran cattle work. Cattle work every day. Yeah,
- 14:39it's like I love doing the festivals, right, everybody comes along. So
- 14:46I'm actually over pubs. Pubs a death and I actually Jim Freedman from the
- 14:54Win I saw him at the awards and I go, I mean because of
- 15:01the pokes chrime, we know about pub gets that we have had a cup
- 15:05of sleep said yeah, there was an error and error so I said,
- 15:16and he goes, that's a little extraordinarys We go, no, you've extreme
- 15:24extraordinary. Well love, I've got to blow poke sh love it. Hey
- 15:31it was from a mounta tambourine, the little pub there being a dragon because
- 15:37I don't have pokes and they support five years now. There's a lot of
- 15:39a lot of places that are doing that and they're doing great business because you
- 15:45go to pubs right and they go they've got like a gambling section and it's
- 15:50edy social down the game. Yeah, like up with pets and fluffing up.
- 16:00Wow a that I can tell. I know, I can smell.
- 16:07Oh that's not good. That is not good. That's much better. He
- 16:11actually bought fresh jobs for this weekend. So why did he buy only three?
- 16:19This is a question to be determined. I actually don't bother letting me
- 16:27know I'm not interested. I will make my life mission to pick welcome music
- 16:38question. Australia changed well, as I said, what you used to go
- 16:52to the pubs and it was a social event, you know. And we
- 16:56will be a poster from Springford which is a gig in King Squats Famous and
- 17:06there it is Monday Tuesday, Wednesday Thursday from Monday River required by as you're
- 17:11in there like and this is what we used to young people who used to
- 17:15go to live and used the watch live bands writing singing songs that they've written
- 17:26themselves. This is amazing trend. It's incredible. These bands were expressing its
- 17:32and this is a choice. It's not like, oh let's go and just
- 17:37do Eagles and everybody. They just started writing so their environment, their lives
- 17:42and it's you know Midnight Island, excess costs, incredibles, it's change,
- 17:52pressing ones change. So my music scene is triggering bands and d and all
- 18:00covering Dave Dave Gleeson I a cover guy in Brisbane when Stol's guitar and I
- 18:11were Pialy. He wasn't doing well and David Dave Telly. I wonder if
- 18:26you ever played again after that? Pretty drunks. Let's now next question.
- 18:51Yeah, okay, how have you ticulous me more than what I want to
- 19:03be? Yeah? Here's the problem I have to bring that up is because
- 19:07you are perfect the way you are, and you are perfect where you were.
- 19:12Be a man, a man. Yeah, stop this woman ship.
- 19:15I think I should be a man. I'm gonna have qualified for a bloke.
- 19:18Actually being a man as much easier. I have all the redeeming qualities
- 19:26of a bloke and female. Don't have a change. Thank you, thank
- 19:34you. So what was your question? How much do we want? I
- 19:41did not call you, not at all. So you guys have managed to
- 19:52keep the who I was alive all this time, and I would imagine have
- 19:56some sort of harmony and respect together to be able to do. What advice
- 20:00would you give to the young bands we're talking about last starting out and adventuring
- 20:04out? How do you do? What's the secret? It's like a marriage.
- 20:11You just cantinue your despite. What you do is you ignore, you
- 20:15ignore the lack of perfection, or you ignore the continuation of imperfection and don't
- 20:26try and have too many expectations about the individuals. You know a lot of
- 20:32bands, whether it's The Angels, the Cultures, or even The Night or
- 20:37even from the guy from Power Finger. He said he come out a note
- 20:41a reunionory. He goes on, there's a couple of guys can't stand in
- 20:45the same so this is a normal circumstance. Just ignore it and get on
- 20:53with Yeah, Yeah, that's right voice. I think there are some people
- 21:07they don't. I'm not in packing Sydney. I didn't say that I hate
- 21:15Sidney. I was not interest. He did admit to not be the smoke
- 21:23one. To give him a little grace, you know, I think that
- 21:26education is too great. One time, just deal slowly. Cover the t
- 21:47is what did you guys have released? The last video while he guys playing
- 21:56voice, No, I'm fascinated with dumb The working title is dumb Rock.
- 22:08Yeah. I'm sick of intellectual songs, people trying to be hip, like
- 22:15particularly cool bands. Yet I just want to write stupid songs, like with
- 22:25just one Chord. There's a song I'm writing a month called one Chord,
- 22:30and the song I'm finished called the Ship Song. I just wanted to be
- 22:34all stupid and I wanted to stick it up people. I wanted to get
- 22:42it finished six months ago, but I haven't done it. The point is
- 22:48that I wanted it to be if I wanted to be simple and stupid,
- 22:53because I think people, you know, I don't think. You know,
- 22:59people don't make music. People out there, they do other things. They
- 23:03want to come and listen. Well, you know you fat music, sexual
- 23:22music, stupid music. See dumb wrong, dumb wrong. Yeah, I
- 23:27want dumb wrong, don t bring back the rock think about it. I
- 23:33don't want because it's dumb, don't think. So I work on that.
- 23:41But also we're doing this time we show or Run to Paradise, the Australian
- 23:48robber roll stories, and so we've done the first one, sold out,
- 23:52shaking it all around the country and telling all the stories and the things that
- 23:56we've heard and seen and that we haven't seen that told happening on stage and
- 24:06we're playing all the songs from the bands, and you know, I think
- 24:12it's I think it's next month water. Yes, yes, I'm not too
- 24:26sure. I'm terrible, but Lunch of Paradise is straight in robber roll stories.
- 24:32Yeah, look it up. Do the work because I can't feckle,
- 24:37feckle. We've got to worry to go onto the on the go, jump
- 24:41into the quiz. Now, a little quiz, a little dumb mask,
- 24:45dumb quiz, but it's don't try to read right, I can't all right
- 25:00straight off the back. If you could playing in any other bands festival today,
- 25:04where would you be? Who would be? Hang on? If you
- 25:07playing any band for what? Pickars festival? I've already played with James Rayne,
- 25:12but permanently. Oh, I think I think my Kings because I'm already
- 25:23writing songs with trying to write songs with uh, you know the guitarists who
- 25:30should know Alex Alex, thank you. Then he's given me a great game.
- 25:37He said what he's doing with songwriting but tried bos. I've never done
- 25:42that. I'll be doing that. Yeah, So I think Kings. I
- 25:48want to be the chick singer. I love it, love it. Next
- 25:52question, if anyone was to replace you in, who would have been Christina
- 25:59or A yeah, because that's what any obsession I've done anyway. There it's
- 26:18funny. It's a mix because you know the vinyls, the not just Divine
- 26:25sorry, the Angels as DC Midnight or coultures. I think out of those,
- 26:38I have to say probably the Angels because the first of was small them,
- 26:45even though I thought the Vinyls were better Wife when I saw it was
- 26:49in nineteen seventy eight. Oh my got Docunia on stage. Unbelievable. So
- 27:00of things like that. But it's a difficult thing, difficult one to answer.
- 27:03Yea what cup? And a thought was one would be I think it
- 27:11would have to be Masser t me on weet your mask ahead? What's this?
- 27:22You know that you know and you know no secrets? You know?
- 27:26Amanded? The actress waits at the station. She's drifting with nothing to do
- 27:32and dilatant steps. She's quick to accept the weather and time terms of good.
- 27:36Now. I've interviewed off that when he said that he meant this girl
- 27:41outside a railway station and drove her home. And that was when I did
- 27:48ask him what happened when it comes to him? And that was the story
- 27:56who ran? Yeah? And then he wrote this because all the stuff she
- 28:00told him, and he wrote the lyrics to me that it's amazing And when
- 28:07you really listen to the read, the lyrics go incredible poetry. They kick
- 28:18us as a two day festival. Yes, what are your survivor s?
- 28:29Only allowed to drink one alcoholic beverage the day. You are not allowed to
- 28:36buy anything in Nevil from an individual. Right. That's two. You must
- 28:44not find anybody sexually attractive now I'm talking or anything. Right. We do
- 28:52not want this to turn into train rate would stop nineteen nine. You're not.
- 29:00If you haven't seen it, please watch it and will teach you that
- 29:04all of the things I've said that can happen, because yeah, remember,
- 29:14be intelligent, be caring, be loving, and vomit when needed. Chris,
- 29:22be intelligent. Chris is out. Yeah. My next question was how
- 29:30many of them do you follow? But I think they are manteressing? You
- 29:33follow them daily? Yes? Yes I do? Ye, Well, I
- 29:38don't know. Don't ask me that why I follow daily? Shall I have
- 29:45coffee? Will I not have coffee? It's an issue. Sometimes it's good,
- 29:52sometimes sometimes just good? Do I have to go to Sydney tomorrow?
- 30:04Are you us? He loves me? It's your favorite has four generations.
- 30:25It's actually amazing. And I'll give you an example because as you were done
- 30:29show you, but we were really showing it long substant Tasmania and there was
- 30:33a young girl who singing every song we pluck. Now, obviously not everybody
- 30:38knows every song she loves, and she had to be between eighteen to twenty
- 30:45two estimated, un checked the wrinkles or the hands. No, though I
- 30:57love Harris, I am so and I was amazing. I was transfer,
- 31:07you know, I'm like, what is it? From the sixty minute streams
- 31:11on Bloody Spotify for Front Paradise Spotify as a young person stick isn't it you?
- 31:22Whin't she get? Just so you will know you when you get paid
- 31:26five thousand dollars per one minute streams to be split between publishing and artist waft.
- 31:37So if you're if you're in the region of you know, Bloody Green
- 31:44Day A many habitans about the only ones. Yes, so, because it's
- 31:56an allegious kind of setting, do you change your set list to accommodate that?
- 32:00Yes? Yes, yeah, Well, for instance, we have a
- 32:07song called bullshit Wonder. I do not like swearing and call me off fashion.
- 32:15I don't like arms to swear a family events, and I've said quite
- 32:17a bit of it from people who would surprise you. Yeah, I don't
- 32:22like it. There are children out there and I don't like swearing in front
- 32:27of children. They need to be treated with respect for strength, care and
- 32:34equality. I got on philosophize start me. Yeah, now, I wouldn't
- 32:49night good, treat them as evil and understand like when they a warment,
- 32:57things happen and certain things happen. Obviously the raven expected respect and send Jack
- 33:07with another No, just because let them roll and come out of the book.
- 33:13You've actually got to be a relationship or Spotify the spotify that they started
- 33:22a greeting Spotify players White Ways songs. Because once it's the players to get
- 33:30pipe started. Once off the players to save the marriage, and once the
- 33:35players in potention, okay, the party started to run. Power to be
- 33:42the one the relationships start, the safe marriage, savior marriage would be it's
- 33:51a relatively new song. It's will give me all the love that you've got,
- 33:54but it's actually not you a song we found five and one? When
- 34:04would be I think bullshit? But wouldn't no say? I could say,
- 34:15well, yeahs about okay, canceling, I'll see you actual issues. Well
- 34:37yeah, I mean I can. It's so easy. Well have you we
- 34:43I had count? Yes, it work interesting, I said that Steve Hilture,
- 34:52you said, just terrible time relationships. He goes, no, I'm
- 35:00just a fucking you. I suppose he didn't, Seleb, I wish all
- 35:12the advice I've gotten through might be surprised that's what you were with my friend
- 35:22room. Send you to the door. I wish you married. Left Chris
- 35:30Peters. Now are we done because I have to get ready to show.
- 35:45The show started twenty minutes. Yeah, it's all. I've got a hair
- 35:53and chen penty of time. Yeah, thank you. That was amazing,
- 36:00Hope, lazy to mesa unlike, I really feel I's not my ego or
- 36:06anything like that, but everybody else you would be so
