- 0:00Hello and welcome to another episode of the Christian Reed
- 0:02Podcast. My good friend Mister Jack
- 0:04Hatcher is back. Hello.
- 0:07Well, yeah, welcome buddy. But then I've counted this
- 0:10123456 This is your 7th appearance.
- 0:15Seven KO Summer Woods 7 appearances.
- 0:18I love it. So there's a couple of things.
- 0:20OK, so this will be episode 228, I think.
- 0:27Yeah, maybe. And you were on and I count
- 0:32episode 4, Episode 18, Episode 19, Episode 74, Episode 123,
- 0:39Episode 166. I like that there's an even
- 0:42spread that something even more interesting.
- 0:45I think you're my only guest that I've had on the show every
- 0:50single year of the podcast. So I had you in 2020-2021, 2022
- 0:54and now, of course 2023. I love that.
- 0:57I was literally saying to my partner before we started
- 0:59recording. Like something I love about my
- 1:01appearances on this show is it's documented so much from like my
- 1:06channel growing during the COVID times to starting my job at Sega
- 1:13to like a year into that and launching Frontiers and stuff
- 1:16like that. So it's captured some of the
- 1:19finer points of my life really, which is a good friend of mine.
- 1:24I've said this on the show before, shout out to childish
- 1:27Jacko, he said. When I began this, that like,
- 1:31it's a time capsule, you know? And I I never thought about that
- 1:36because I like sometimes I'll obviously look back and look at
- 1:39old episodes and to be honest, I just cringe at my old stuff.
- 1:42I'm like, but, but it's cool. Like checking in with people and
- 1:45seeing how people are progressing and stuff.
- 1:47And obviously I keep tabs on you anyway, just like as friends.
- 1:51And yeah, I mean, you've been doing a lot with with Sega, some
- 1:55pretty big stuff. Yeah.
- 1:58Walk walk us through some of the sort of biggest developments
- 2:01since the last time we spoke. I mean, as with all of these
- 2:05things, I am under fucking Ndas and I know about.
- 2:10That when I'm acting as well, like I just signed a contract
- 2:13for something the other day and I was looking at it and I was
- 2:15like, wow, I just can't talk about this at all.
- 2:17Great, Pretty much. So obviously I have to keep
- 2:21specifics. Under wraps.
- 2:23But we we launched Somic Frontiers last year and I played
- 2:28a big part in taking back to game shows around the world.
- 2:32So whether I was physically there or I was the person who
- 2:37installed that code onto the drive, that was then taken
- 2:41across oceans. You know, I I had involvement in
- 2:43it and that was that was really cool and it was a long old
- 2:47process and at the end of it. After all the work they've been
- 2:52put in, for it to be the highest rated 3D Sonic game in the past
- 2:5820 years? Wow.
- 3:00Just phenomenal. And seeing the feedback, seeing
- 3:04how much people are enjoying this game and the response to
- 3:07the DLC that we've been putting out for it, the free DLC.
- 3:11It's just the whole journey has been so rewarding, so
- 3:16fulfilling. Absolutely loved every second of
- 3:19it. And then, of course, we launched
- 3:20Sonic Origins Plus on Sonic's birthday, July 23rd.
- 3:25Sorry, June 23rd, I lose my Sonic card for that.
- 3:28And that was awesome. Great to have Amy Rose playable
- 3:32in the classic games. So that was a really nice
- 3:34launch, had Sonic Prime come out, which is done ridiculously
- 3:39well on Netflix. It's just had the second season
- 3:41come out. It's getting very good reviews
- 3:43on that. And you know, there's we've got
- 3:46Sonic Superstars coming. This year I'm I'm not exactly
- 3:49sure when that is, but that looks to be a really exciting
- 3:53new adventure. So there there's so much in the
- 3:57pipeline for Sonic at the moment and I actually don't really get
- 4:01to know you as much of it as I would like at all because it's
- 4:03all very secretive. But you know, I the the stuff I
- 4:08get to be involved in is always makes me really happy, always
- 4:13brings a tear to my eye in a joyful way.
- 4:16So yeah, one one thing I'd like to really know is how you sort
- 4:22of came into these opportunities.
- 4:24Because obviously when you first started and you got this job,
- 4:26they were obviously well aware that you're a big fan.
- 4:29But you know, presumably most people working for Sega are to
- 4:33some extent like fans of the product or whatever or have like
- 4:36some sort of interest, right? But you're like a die hard Sonic
- 4:39fan. Like, I can attest to this, you
- 4:41know, you were like that at school.
- 4:43You go on and on and on about fucking Shadow the Hedgehog.
- 4:46So believe me guys, he's always been going on about this.
- 4:50You can see behind me right here, right?
- 4:52But no. But like, you know, all jokes
- 4:54aside, you are the perfect sort of person to be working in a job
- 4:57like this. But from a business standpoint,
- 5:00I wonder, can you walk us through the journey of like how
- 5:03you started getting these opportunities?
- 5:06Like did you have to like for instance, throw yourself forward
- 5:09or was it like, you know, they just sort of track your work and
- 5:12occasionally they've sort of test you with something new like
- 5:15put a bit more responsibility on your, on your on your plate.
- 5:18So talk us through that and also like how your role has changed
- 5:22since you began with the company.
- 5:24So obviously again, I can't go into too many.
- 5:27What can you tell me, Jack? But.
- 5:28What I can tell you I I shall. So I I said this before, Sega
- 5:34really don't make you stay in your lane.
- 5:37If you express an interest in something or passion in
- 5:41something, you can ask to to be involved in it in some way.
- 5:46We have so many different groups and workshops and things like
- 5:50that Sega, and you're really given opportunities.
- 5:54Now with me working in IT, we support the game events, so
- 6:00things like Twitchcon, Gamescom coming up, e.g.
- 6:05X. Comic Con, if we have stuff
- 6:08there. Paris Games Week.
- 6:09We as the IT department will support that and we will have
- 6:14someone go to these events with the you know to support the team
- 6:19basically to to help them do what needs to be done at the
- 6:23events and I was put on events where Sonic was being taken, I.
- 6:33Loved every second of it. It will actually started me
- 6:35going to Twitchcon Amsterdam last year in which we didn't
- 6:37take any Sonic games but we were, you know, we took Total
- 6:41War and the two point games and Endless Dungeon and things like
- 6:45that. Really, really good event.
- 6:46And from there the events later in the year came where Sonic was
- 6:50being shown with Sonic Frontiers and I I just made it very well
- 6:55known to the team that were dealing with Sonic Frontiers
- 6:58like I I. I'm so dedicated to this.
- 7:02I'm so passionate about this. You know I was so thankful to be
- 7:07able to play my part in it. So I kind of I got that
- 7:13involvement natively through my position.
- 7:16But I made it very well known from that point like that
- 7:18there's Sonic stuff to be done. I wanted from an IT perspective
- 7:21I want to be doing it and I've been very fortunate that I have
- 7:24been able to be involved with most of the showcasing of
- 7:27Frontiers last year. So it really just.
- 7:30Yeah, they don't make you stay in your lane.
- 7:32It's a fantastic company to work for.
- 7:34It really is they. They really do realize the
- 7:38potential in people and let them explore that.
- 7:40And I think that's something that's so important in an
- 7:45employer these days and it's helping me live my dreams to a
- 7:50large degree. So I really, I can't complain
- 7:53there. I'm very happy for you man.
- 7:55I, I was stoked when I found out that you were working for Sega
- 7:58and then now to be working on Sonic, like programming games,
- 8:05merchandise, you name it, like it's, it's called like.
- 8:10So I'm in an interesting spot now where like I'm pursuing my
- 8:14dreams, but like, you know, I'm not like at the, you know, level
- 8:18I want to be, but there's been some significant strides.
- 8:20So I'll hold my hands up and say I'm, I'm very grateful.
- 8:23Not complaining by any means, but for a long, the longest time
- 8:26I've obviously sort of been, you know, sitting in the arena
- 8:29watching everyone else or make it and you know, went through a
- 8:33range of emotions with that. And I've sort of settled on
- 8:36like, you know, just keep doing your thing and congratulate
- 8:39everybody else and you move on, right?
- 8:42But that doesn't make any of this difficult anyway.
- 8:46It's also the other side of that is it's a source of motivation
- 8:51because I look at where you started and where you are now
- 8:57and it's like it's just hard work and grafting and never
- 9:01giving up. I mean, this kind of started
- 9:03what we're talking about 2018-2019 around probably around
- 9:07the time that the Sonic, the first Sonic movie came into.
- 9:13Yeah, it was about a year before that that I was seriously making
- 9:17Sonic content. Like, yeah, but it was like that
- 9:20was like like a like a quite a monumental.
- 9:23Yeah, that was the big moment, right.
- 9:26So you track it back. That's what, like four or five
- 9:28years of doing this. And like here we are now, you
- 9:32know, And it's like, I think about this a lot, cuz I've just
- 9:36reached about five years acting. Yeah.
- 9:38And, you know, I think if nothing else, probably the
- 9:42biggest lesson is like over time you get better.
- 9:45Do you know what? I'm sure you, I'm sure you
- 9:47noticed the same like with your content, with your work.
- 9:49Like everything gets better over time because you get better.
- 9:53You grow, you learn. So let's explore that for a
- 9:57second. Like what's maybe the biggest
- 9:59sort of lessons you've learned through your work so far and
- 10:04your content creation and everything?
- 10:06Okay Uncle Hatcher, coming out here.
- 10:08So I think you really have to hone your craft.
- 10:15You have to do the hard work and I don't want.
- 10:20This to sound in a way like hard work and you can achieve
- 10:25anything because you need a bit of luck in the world as well.
- 10:29And I know that some a lot of people don't get that luck and
- 10:33they struggle and they keep grafting and they just don't
- 10:35seem to get anywhere. But the one thing I will say is
- 10:42it's. It's extremely difficult, sorry.
- 10:44It's extremely easy to get down on yourself to particularly when
- 10:48you can see other people being successful, and to riding
- 10:52yourself and just think you're not doing enough.
- 10:54But honestly mate, like I I made a lot of mistakes to get here,
- 11:00Okay and I did not have things figured out.
- 11:04I only fell into IT at the age of 27.
- 11:09I was 2728. I was just doing mundane office
- 11:14jobs kind of not never, never the same role consistently, just
- 11:19mundane. Fill in the the office worker
- 11:21here. And it was only in the last time
- 11:26that I did that I took an accounting role at a job at a
- 11:30company called Escape Technology who a fantastic company.
- 11:34And it got to the point where I was just like, this isn't me and
- 11:37I was very interested. In being the computer engineer
- 11:41because I was very friendly with the computer engineers there and
- 11:43loved what they were doing and had a real interest in it.
- 11:46And yeah, that was 2728 and that's when I started doing it.
- 11:50And then about a year on from there, due to the company
- 11:55relocating and I'm, you know, getting in touch with Sega, I
- 12:01moved into an IT position Sega and then you know, I've just
- 12:06turned 30. But this is.
- 12:09As you said, this isn't the longest journey I've been on so
- 12:12far that we're already talking probably about five years of
- 12:16this real focus of knowing what I want to do and trying to make
- 12:19something out of it it. You don't have to have it all
- 12:23figured out. And I think particularly for
- 12:25people our age, we think like by 30 you have to have it figured
- 12:29out. And you know what?
- 12:32It's not the case. It's really not like,
- 12:35particularly if you look at things like.
- 12:38How the economy is and things like that.
- 12:39You know, buying, buying a house and things like we if you're
- 12:44living with parents, if you're still just flowing through life
- 12:49and you're trying to figure out what you want to do, it's okay.
- 12:54It's really this perception that we put on ourselves, so we have
- 12:58to have it all figured out is from the generation before us
- 13:02who had it slightly easier than we did, and from ourselves.
- 13:08And we just we just got to dispel it because it's OK to not
- 13:12know everything you want to do in life.
- 13:15There's time. There's still time I can Co with
- 13:18this. I mean, everyone knows my story,
- 13:21but I'll just kind of rehash it real quick.
- 13:24Like, I think the point at which I knew what I wanted to do with
- 13:30my life and this is actually shifted when I look back.
- 13:34I actually started acting in in 2019 so it's like what I would
- 13:38have been 20-6, maybe 27 ish and but it didn't like when I look
- 13:46back like I fell in love with acting but I didn't know that
- 13:50was what I was going to do because I was doing like loads
- 13:52of things like YouTube streams, music, whatever like just kind
- 13:55of getting back into creative stuff again after so many years
- 13:59of being away from it. And and like yourself I had
- 14:02loads of different jobs. So we did marketing for several
- 14:04years. You know I did customer service
- 14:06role as you name it and you know I'm still doing bits and pieces
- 14:11jobs here and there just to kind of make ends meet now.
- 14:14But things are much more clearer where the goals are concerned.
- 14:17But now it's like acting. That's the goal, that's the aim
- 14:21and everything else is second to it.
- 14:23I still put the same level of effort into everything.
- 14:25But like you know, I've I've said this to my audience as
- 14:29well. Like if I get that opportunity,
- 14:31if it comes best believe I'm going to have to make some
- 14:33sacrifices and it's not going to be easy, but you know.
- 14:37Isn't that the thing in the end like if you didn't give it your
- 14:40all, if you even even if you don't succeed, if you didn't
- 14:44give it your all, how you going to feel about yourself at the
- 14:47end of end of things? You're looking back at your
- 14:50life. That's the thing I'm terrified
- 14:52about. Yeah, I'd rather, yeah.
- 14:54I'd rather, you know, go through life, bust my ass and be a
- 14:57complete failure. But no, I gave it my all and sit
- 15:00there in years from now, having played the easy route and go,
- 15:03oh, but what if, what if? Maybe I could have been
- 15:06spectacular? Exactly.
- 15:09I've said for the longest time, one day I will voice Sonic in
- 15:12something. I think it's going to happen.
- 15:14It's going to happen at some. Point may not.
- 15:16It really may not. And if it doesn't, that's OK.
- 15:19But I'm gonna give everything, every fiber of my being, to get
- 15:25to that position. I bet you a tenor.
- 15:30I've gone and it's gonna happen. I I hope so, man.
- 15:34And when it and when it happens, hopefully by that point I'll
- 15:37have a physical version of the show, right.
- 15:40Yeah. And you'll come on and you'll
- 15:43present me the 10 pound note like that that that's fine.
- 15:47So there you go. Yeah, there's a wager.
- 15:49I'll complete you down for that beautiful show.
- 15:53I I can honestly see it like I and you know here's the thing as
- 15:56well. I think it's important to reset
- 16:00like realistic goals. That one thing I've I've seen a
- 16:02lot that there's a guy called Chris Van Bleet who in in the
- 16:06wrestling industry is like a an interview he's done like big
- 16:09interviews for celebs around the world.
- 16:11Anyway, one thing that he always says is vague goals get vague
- 16:15results. Yeah.
- 16:17And I used to kind of be like, well, I don't know about that.
- 16:20And then I started sitting and thinking about it in the context
- 16:23of what I'm doing and I was like, no, he's maybe he's on to
- 16:26something here. So that my my main goal, and
- 16:28I've said this before but I'll say it here, is to be a full
- 16:32time actor. Yes, you know, like I want to be
- 16:36in a position where I do acting full time as as a job or I have
- 16:41like enough projects that I can live on it And then ideally I'd
- 16:45be able to still keep doing the podcast, live streaming, all the
- 16:48other things I love doing. But of course, it depends how it
- 16:52works out. Because as I mentioned before,
- 16:56with sacrifice, you know, there's always going to be
- 17:00certain things, be it sacrificing time, sacrificing
- 17:02money, sacrificing time away from like loved ones, whatever.
- 17:07It takes A lot of you, like both of us right now, still actively
- 17:11putting a lot of time and effort into things all the time.
- 17:15The stuff that you don't see behind the scenes, you know,
- 17:18creation of content takes a lot. You know, like when this podcast
- 17:22is done though, I'll be sitting down and editing it and and
- 17:24that's time and it's and I'm happy to do it, but it's like
- 17:28it's always a sacrifice. Completely.
- 17:30And I think this is something that, you know, if my
- 17:33subscribers are watching this from, you know, paying the
- 17:35Discord and that what's up Patching Empire I like I really
- 17:41haven't been producing content recently and that's because I'm
- 17:48so busy with work. Like people don't understand and
- 17:52don't tell this is a thing of like, oh say you're overworking
- 17:54because it's not the case at all.
- 17:55Like, I love my work. I I I want to put the best I can
- 18:01into it because everything I do I think in the back of my head.
- 18:07In some way this impacts Sonic and it does in the weirdest way.
- 18:13So say someone can't access a file because of something I
- 18:16needed to fix. That file then could lead to a
- 18:20delay in getting to someone else who needed some information from
- 18:23that that then could go down there in some way.
- 18:26It messes with the flow of the company and it can therefore
- 18:29mess with the flow of my Blue Boy.
- 18:32So I put so much into it and so much hard work and then I'm
- 18:36trying to balance, you know, my relationship at the same time
- 18:39and it's it's really difficult. It's really difficult to find
- 18:44that time and I love what I'm doing with life right now and
- 18:48oh, and obviously with my my DJ ING as well, right.
- 18:51That's just getting bigger and bigger and bigger.
- 18:54You do and and face down, you know.
- 18:56Come see. Come see me play one time.
- 18:58If you listen to this, you're in London.
- 19:00You're like the pop punk. I'm still waiting to get you
- 19:02down for one point. I'm definitely going to put you
- 19:04on the list for it. I'd love to.
- 19:06Yeah, I love to have you down for it, man.
- 19:10Nothing like 2 old 30 year olds that you know.
- 19:08You got the metal upstairs, Pop. Yeah, that was that was me last
- 19:16night. I was in a heavy metal bar and I
- 19:20realized this actually. Like, I met a bunch of people
- 19:23and we're like singing like crazy and starting to pit and
- 19:26everything. And I'm like, damn, man, I
- 19:28haven't done this in so many years.
- 19:30Like, there was so many years that I just wasn't being me.
- 19:36I don't know. It's weird to say it's weird,
- 19:38but like. I did it.
- 19:39I took like three or four years out at one point.
- 19:41Crazy. And I missed it so much.
- 19:46I think we need that. It's humans and that human
- 19:49interaction in a in a comfort zone like because music is just
- 19:53so beautiful like that. It's such a blanket for people
- 19:58to just. I'm in my happy place.
- 20:01I've got my songs like nothing else matters and that human
- 20:04interaction with it is so special.
- 20:06You know what's interesting as well?
- 20:07Like I hear these songs, like for example, I there was like a
- 20:11request hour, right? So I was putting in all these
- 20:14different requests and I requested kill switch, engage my
- 20:17curse water. Tune, right.
- 20:20And I was thinking like about because every time I hear that
- 20:24song, I'm immediately, you know, 14 again and on the bus or
- 20:30school, whatever. And I remember how I felt at the
- 20:34time, how life was at the time. Like, I can picture it perfectly
- 20:37in my mind and the feeling and and everything.
- 20:39And now it's a very different feeling because you always have
- 20:41that, but now you're, you know, out and about with other people
- 20:45who grew up listening to that song.
- 20:47Or maybe they're younger and like, they didn't.
- 20:49So to them it's like, oh, this is an oldie and I'm like, what
- 20:52the fuck? How is kill sit and oldie?
- 20:53But that's the. That's a kind of.
- 20:55Is now you think about it. That's the weird thing, yeah.
- 20:58We're getting old, man. We are getting old I.
- 21:02Can't think mid 2000s, those iconic Blink songs were coming
- 21:07out. It just, it doesn't feel that
- 21:09long ago. It really.
- 21:11Doesn't, but it was. That's the scary thing.
- 21:16Like if you think that how we were when we were like if you
- 21:21think of those mid 2000s eras, right, think of what 80s music
- 21:25was then. Yeah.
- 21:26No, I think about the it's. The same difference away that's.
- 21:30Difference you. You know, I mean, I'm not
- 21:31formulating words very well right now, but you get my point.
- 21:34Like, it's just, I totally get that.
- 21:36It's like when our parents were going on about, like assuming
- 21:40they were on the younger end, they would talk about the 80s
- 21:42like, oh wow, and get all nostalgic.
- 21:44And don't get me wrong, I love everything about the 80s.
- 21:47And it's like one of those eternally cool errors.
- 21:50And now looking back, and it's interesting because I think
- 21:55there is a tendency to look things with roasting and glasses
- 21:59and nostalgia. But when I look back, like I
- 22:03genuinely think that the 2000s was like the last good era.
- 22:07Like culturally, I just feel like there was the right amount
- 22:11of technology. And after that, it kind of just
- 22:13went a little downhill and now it's fit.
- 22:16I only get what you mean. Like, I don't know.
- 22:19It's it's weird, like there's a lot that I'm thankful for now.
- 22:22But then there's other stuff that might like do all this AI
- 22:25shit for example, and how it's threatening so many different
- 22:28industries. Yeah, you know, it's it's a very
- 22:33crazy time right now. And I don't know.
- 22:36I know look at look at how we began the decade.
- 22:39You know, we were making jokes about 2020 Vision and all.
- 22:43It's gonna, you know, the roaring 20s again and all this
- 22:45And then fucking massive worldwide pandemic.
- 22:48Which okay, Fair enough, no one could have foreseen that.
- 22:50But it's And now we're in this space where I don't know, it's
- 22:58it's a weird it's a weird time. It's a weird time.
- 23:01I think we're in probably the most chaotic time we've been as
- 23:08a species. No okay.
- 23:11Before I start talking about this, let's just breakfast like
- 23:14I am not. Scientists really not I'm.
- 23:18I'm not no. I'm no Professor Hatcher, no.
- 23:21Professor Hatcher Okay. I have no X inside knowledge or
- 23:26anything, so you can tell me I'm an idiot.
- 23:28I'm not qualified, but I feel we're just kind of a breaking
- 23:33point with humanity. I think we're so focused on what
- 23:36separates us and not why we are the same.
- 23:40I think if you look at the look at look at the voting.
- 23:45For instance, right in the in this this country, for instance
- 23:48in the UK politics. Politics.
- 23:50But I'm I'm not trying to be political bad, but politics.
- 23:55It's pretty much a 5050 split. No, it's not.
- 23:59Look at the fly. What was the last result?
- 24:02Was it 53 percent? 47 Are you talking about the
- 24:05Brexit? I'm OK.
- 24:06Brexit was Brexit was very 5050. But then when you look at the
- 24:10general, like Labour versus Tory, each general election,
- 24:14there's not masses and masses. It depends.
- 24:18It depends on. It depends because there's been
- 24:21times when it shifted greatly. Like remember when we were
- 24:25growing up, obviously labor was in power and they'd gotten in in
- 24:30like 97 I think. And that had been after like and
- 24:35this is how weird and how cyclical things are.
- 24:38So it. Was a good Tory cycle, wasn't it
- 24:41before? Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Tories.
- 24:42And this is what amazes me that people's memories people forget
- 24:45like so the Tories were in I think like beginning of the 80s
- 24:50right through until yeah like 90s and then Labor got in and
- 24:57you know people had had enough and now we're kind of we've had
- 25:01same again about 15 years give or take or 1314 years of Tories
- 25:07and now people set up again. Yeah.
- 25:09And probably this is what I mean, because it also kind of
- 25:12works into that cycles thing. It's like.
- 25:16This site that people have set up these I'm this side, You're
- 25:21that side. I hate all that.
- 25:23It doesn't work anymore because it's two.
- 25:27It's two very large groups of people, and if one is completely
- 25:30represented, the other isn't. And it's all about what
- 25:34separates us. There needs to be a bit more
- 25:37coming together, sitting around the table saying actually we
- 25:41have this in common. We have these interesting, I
- 25:44just feel like we're so divided as and this isn't I'm talking on
- 25:49general biggest type outside of the UK as as a species we're so
- 25:52divided and we just we've got to start coming together a bit more
- 25:58compromising. Not saying.
- 26:00I'm not saying compromising on atrocities and things that are
- 26:03wrong with things like that. That's an extreme.
- 26:05Just having a conversation, just trying not to be so against each
- 26:10other. Because everything's a breaking
- 26:13point, man. You can't go anywhere online
- 26:15without people arguing about something.
- 26:19It's like that anime that was trending a while back, you know,
- 26:22the one where it's like I have no enemies and people doing all
- 26:25these different videos about it and it's like as much as it was
- 26:28a fun trend at the same time, this is an element of truth in
- 26:32that I think there are many people out there that, you know,
- 26:34like I've always been there. I hate fighting.
- 26:37I hate confrontation. Say, you know, absolutely.
- 26:39Same like, I don't. I don't mind when people dislike
- 26:43me or hate me because I understand that they're hating
- 26:49themselves by doing so. They're they're in pain.
- 26:52Like, you know what I'm saying? Like.
- 26:53Holding on to negative feelings. Yeah.
- 26:57And like, I I want us all to be OK.
- 26:59Even the people that maybe I don't like.
- 27:01I still want them to be OK Yeah. Because I look at the the fact
- 27:04that, like, being a human is difficult.
- 27:07It's lonely. It's hard.
- 27:09It's unrelenting when you don't have someone by your side is
- 27:12it's very, it's very tough. You know, like I've I've been
- 27:16single now for quite a few years and I don't have to talk about
- 27:18this much. But I will say when I've
- 27:22discussed themes and loneliness and stuff like that, I do notice
- 27:27how tricky it gets when you don't have someone by your side
- 27:30and you're left to kind of deal with stuff and that spiral that
- 27:34you can sometimes go down. Now I found a way to kind of
- 27:37deal with that, but at the same time that doesn't make it any
- 27:40any easier. Yeah, of course.
- 27:41You. I know to like avoid certain
- 27:44things, you know, obviously, like, don't go drinking when you
- 27:46feel that way, for example, stuff like that.
- 27:49But like, at the same time, that feeling's still there.
- 27:53Yeah. And it's, Do you know what I
- 27:54mean? Like, we need that togetherness,
- 27:57we need the company of others for so many reasons.
- 28:01But I think even even like, if you're an introvert, like, I'm
- 28:05an introvert and I I love my own time and space and stuff.
- 28:08But like for man do I love the company of other people as well.
- 28:12Like, of course, an interesting balance.
- 28:14I mean like that's why I'm I'm very lucky to have my partner
- 28:17Jess. She really is my my rock with
- 28:19everything. You know whether it comes if if
- 28:22I don't thank you. I really appreciate it.
- 28:24Like if I upload a video she's the first person to watch like
- 28:28comment. If I'm D Jing, she is by my
- 28:32side, being my hype man the entire time.
- 28:35Like for this week we we we had what we call sample sale at Sega
- 28:42where the licensing department when they get samples from
- 28:45different merch that's made they they sell it all to the people
- 28:48in the company and the August charity.
- 28:51It's really, really nice and thing and you know, I went and
- 28:56spent a bit of money on. A fair few items.
- 29:00A lot. A lot, yeah.
- 29:02Not as bad as I did at the last one, but I I'm just looking at
- 29:05some of it now, like just looking at it like I don't know
- 29:07if I can justify this. Yeah, pretty much.
- 29:09And so she came and met me at the office to help me drag all
- 29:14these bags home. So, like, she's just, she's the
- 29:17absolute best. But what I will say about the
- 29:20point you are making is nobody ever in the history of mankind.
- 29:28Or humankind. Sorry, I don't.
- 29:29I don't want to. Yeah, humankind has ever asked
- 29:34for this. No one has ever asked for their
- 29:39existence. I didn't ask to be born.
- 29:42No, but no one did. It's true.
- 29:45And I'm not being funny. I don't want to sound really
- 29:47depressing here, but how many people, if given the option
- 29:53right at this point, would say okay?
- 29:56No reverse it. I die.
- 29:58I would rather not have gone through this because life is
- 30:01work. Life is not easy unless you're
- 30:05born into, you know, a trust fund with you never have to
- 30:10worry about anything financially for the rest of your life.
- 30:12It is a struggle otherwise see. How many people would sound off
- 30:17themselves? This is where I'm like the total
- 30:23opposite. I am as well.
- 30:26I believe nothing worth doing is easy.
- 30:28That's the thing. Like, I look at life and some of
- 30:31the things I've gone through throughout the years and even
- 30:35the things I deal with today. And then I look at the things
- 30:40that give me happiness, that bring me joy in life and the
- 30:43balance between the two. And do you know, I don't know if
- 30:46I've actually told you this. I've told my audience this.
- 30:50I've, you know, I've in my live stream, so I don't know if I've
- 30:53actually said it on the podcast, so maybe I'm saying it for the
- 30:55first time. I don't know.
- 30:56I practice gratitude a lot now and I'm not religious.
- 31:02I don't really know what I am. I guess spiritual will be about
- 31:05the closest thing. Yeah.
- 31:07But every now and again, quite often, like week by week, I'll
- 31:13find myself sitting there just being like, thank you, thank you
- 31:15for everything, all this, thank you even even sometimes just
- 31:19like, oh, this food, oh, this day, oh, the sunshine.
- 31:22Oh, I got to pet a dog today. I don't know.
- 31:24You know, I've got to do this new acting gig, you know, every
- 31:27single time. And that's something I never
- 31:31used to do. Now I'm not going to sit here
- 31:33and say, like, I'm never going to not complain again.
- 31:35I'll certainly try not to. And I'm I'm try to look at life
- 31:39as the basics and if you got the basics then you know you're
- 31:42laughing. I'm.
- 31:43Gonna nip that there every right.
- 31:46You have every right to complain.
- 31:49This is why I don't This is one thing that I think people really
- 31:52lose out of again. Life is not easy.
- 31:55It's true. And yes, if you live in a
- 31:57negative mindset, then you're always going to be negative.
- 32:01However, you have every right with how this world is.
- 32:07Every now and then say, do you know what?
- 32:09This pisses me off? Just don't live in it.
- 32:13Just don't wallow in it and make your whole life that.
- 32:15But I feel like people are too quick to be like or shouldn't be
- 32:19negative. No.
- 32:20If you want to tell the world to F off because you're having a
- 32:23bad day, you do that. That's your right.
- 32:25You've earned that that day. But don't live in it.
- 32:28Don't make it your life. Don't let it poison you.
- 32:30I've said the same thing to my audience quite a few times.
- 32:32Like, it's the. I think it's good to get it out
- 32:35and then get up and and get shit done.
- 32:39Still get. Back on the horse, But like, I
- 32:41don't know. Like I I feel sometimes like
- 32:44when you do not, I'm not gonna say it's a weird one.
- 32:47Like, I think it's good to get it out of your system.
- 32:49But at the same time, when I look at the things I complain
- 32:52about sometimes and then I look at my life now and how it used
- 32:56to be in a way, I do kind of look at it and go, you know
- 32:59what? Like this is ridiculous.
- 33:00Like, what the fuck are you complaining about, you know,
- 33:02Yeah, things might not be exactly where you want them to
- 33:05be, but you're working towards them.
- 33:07And every now and again you get a breakthrough.
- 33:09And it's like, and I think going back to like the beginning of
- 33:13our conversation, you know, things take time.
- 33:16I think if if you were given everything on a plate straight
- 33:20away, you wouldn't know what to do with it.
- 33:32Do you know why? You'd fuck it up.
- 33:23You know How I Met Your Mother, the show.
- 33:25Imagine if Ted had got a right. Same.
- 33:28Imagine if Ted had got everything in season one.
- 33:31He He would have fucked it up. He would.
- 33:34But you know why The my biggest reason why I'm so glad he didn't
- 33:37get everything in season one. So I did a rewatch recently I I
- 33:42Full disclosure I'm doing really well.
- 33:43Your mother 5 * a Year 5 times a year, yeah.
- 33:48It's my favorite show of all time.
- 33:49That and the The Office, the American version.
- 33:52And I'm very much like, I like to put something on that I've
- 33:55already seen so I don't need to give it my full attention.
- 33:59So I go to the show exactly. So it shows like How Met Your
- 34:02Mother and The Office Peep Show, things like that.
- 34:06I just, I consistently go through and if Ted had got
- 34:10everything in season one, we never would have got the high.
- 34:15I'm Ted Mosby, and in 45 days we're going to meet and we're
- 34:19going to fall in love and we're going to have two children.
- 34:23And I know your boyfriend's going to probably turn up and
- 34:26punch you in the face, but. Not here because I want those
- 34:29extra 45 days with you, man. It makes you cry every single
- 34:34time when you know the context. Yeah, I just, I honestly, I'm in
- 34:38pieces every time I see that seed.
- 34:41I've Kevin got everything in the season, but I wouldn't have got
- 34:43that. So scrap that, it's it's like I
- 34:45feel like with that whole show like I've always used it as a
- 34:48good example because the whole point, I mean there's so many
- 34:52good lessons there, but one of the biggest points it's trying
- 34:54to make is, you know to meet the right person, you have to become
- 35:00the right person to you know what I mean?
- 35:02Like, and it's it's not about the, you know, you're not good
- 35:05enough right now, whatever. It's more like if you look at
- 35:08yourself and you're really honest with yourself.
- 35:10So for anyone listening that's that's met their partner and you
- 35:13know you're really loved up and you're happy.
- 35:15Think about who you were 5-10 years ago and then think about
- 35:21who you are, who you were sorry when you met your partner.
- 35:24Like it's there's growth there and even like during the
- 35:28relationship, you grow together, you know you you become more
- 35:32compatible for each other. You work at it.
- 35:34You know it's it's a partnership.
- 35:36But like that journey has to happen.
- 35:38I think you have to have certain experiences.
- 35:40Like right now this, the frustration for me with not
- 35:43having met someone is the like, I'm ready.
- 35:46Like I know I am. I know I'm in the right
- 35:48headspace. I know I've become that person.
- 35:51But see then again on the flip side, maybe, maybe I haven't,
- 35:55maybe I still need to do some growth, you know, it's so
- 35:58interesting. Yeah, I think one thing that
- 36:01show also teaches us that I think is is very I kind of
- 36:05realized on my last rewatch I was like, it toys for so long
- 36:09with the idea of Ted finding his his soul mate, right.
- 36:14He finds too. Nah, Robin is not his soul mate.
- 36:22No, from the fast denied did not.
- 36:25See. No, dude, to where we get at the
- 36:27end. People don't have to like that
- 36:29finale, right? But let's let's be realistic.
- 36:32They they almost got there at the beginning.
- 36:35They had the break. He met the mother of his
- 36:37children was They went in right for each other.
- 36:39But then they they're together at the end.
- 36:41Yeah, right off into the sunset together.
- 36:44Because like, well, okay, if we're being real, I suppose the
- 36:47story, the story there is maybe it can happen later on when
- 36:51things have changed circumstances.
- 36:52Don't give. I think this is contradictory.
- 36:55This is an issue I have with the show, but it's something it does
- 36:58teach and I'm like. That's interesting I just I.
- 37:02Would show up the other way. When they broke up.
- 37:05Like, I think what was it? There was two things.
- 37:07One was I think she couldn't have kids or didn't want to have
- 37:11kids. Something like that might have
- 37:13been. Didn't want to have kids.
- 37:14Didn't want to get married. That was it.
- 37:16And obviously that's that's Ted's mo, right?
- 37:19Which was fair enough as a breakup.
- 37:20Yeah, no faith. Totally fair.
- 37:22Not hating on that. But obviously many, many, many
- 37:26years later, I suppose. Yeah, Okay, You know, he's had
- 37:29kids, he's had a wife. So he's gotten everything he
- 37:32wanted. So now he can be with her.
- 37:34Maybe. But then, I don't know, There
- 37:35was other thing like her career, like, she's a career woman.
- 37:38Her career was her life. That's not going to have changed
- 37:421059, right? She's still the same person.
- 37:45She's just older and circumstances changed.
- 37:48And This is why I felt like her and Barney were a better couple
- 37:51because he got it. He had his own life.
- 37:55And when they broke them up, I was like, ah, this sucks, man.
- 37:59Like you built so long, like painting them together as like
- 38:02working and it made sense. And then you break them apart
- 38:05just as a plot device and it's like.
- 38:08Have you been watching How I Met Your Father?
- 38:11No. Right.
- 38:12So I'm going to, I'm going to bat for this.
- 38:14Now, the first season I wasn't sold, I wasn't sold.
- 38:19Second season, I'm not completely chips in, but I can
- 38:26tell. It's the same writers.
- 38:30I'm getting those. The charm is starting to come
- 38:32through. And very interestingly, I'm not
- 38:35going to spoil this for anyone that may be watching this and is
- 38:38going to watch it. They pick up with Barney after
- 38:43they've picked up on the aftermath, what he's doing now
- 38:47and. And as much as I do think the
- 38:51hit breaking him and Robin up was a butchering of everything
- 38:54they've done on Barney's character development so far,
- 38:57seeing where he is now, I love it.
- 39:01I love it. He's really, it's from where
- 39:04they left him in the end of that finale, they really pick up on
- 39:07it. You get some closure between him
- 39:11and the situation with his dad when talking to someone else
- 39:14about the situation with their dad.
- 39:17You get some a bit more detail on on Ellie, his his daughter
- 39:22and and how that was one element I did like.
- 39:24I teased me up every time you want the love of my life, Yeah,
- 39:28that's that. That was salvaged a little bit
- 39:31I. Think it did.
- 39:33But they go into that, they go into how he is trying to change
- 39:36to be less of a seasonable and it's all just from one one
- 39:42episode cameo kind of before like guest appearance will say.
- 39:46And I just, I love Barney. He's probably my favorite
- 39:50character. I think he's most people's
- 39:51favorite character from the show.
- 39:53But yeah, it was quite nice to see how they've, they've
- 39:56developed his character and it still feels very authentic.
- 39:59I do have a question for you though.
- 40:00Like so I I have this question with a lot of people.
- 40:03Interesting. Which How I Met Your Mother,
- 40:07main male character. Are you Ted?
- 40:11Hands down, it's easy. I've been told people's
- 40:15romantic. Yeah, that dude.
- 40:17That part of the reason why I love that show is because like
- 40:19as much as Ted is over the top and dramatic, that's exactly me
- 40:22as well. Overthinking, getting emotional.
- 40:26Like he for example, This is why How I Met Your Mother shits all
- 40:29over friends, because this is what they tried to do with Ross,
- 40:33that he was an asshole. Whereas Ted, like don't get me
- 40:36wrong, he has some dodgy. Yeah, there are some moments
- 40:40later down the line that has the iron out, but he always kind of
- 40:43gets like he learns a lesson and then see that that was a thing
- 40:50that was like, I'm not going to say there's no character
- 40:53development at all in friends. But like, for instance, I feel
- 40:55like Ross gets progressively worse throughout the seasons and
- 40:59a hypocritical. And whereas Ted like irons out a
- 41:02little bit more, he gets a bit more.
- 41:04Yeah, he still fucks up and makes mistakes because he's
- 41:07guided by his emotions and his heart, but at the same time
- 41:10he's, you know, he doesn't learn, Yeah.
- 41:14I think with Friends after season 2, they drop any sort of
- 41:17idea of character development and make the entire premise of
- 41:20the show. Will Ross and Rachel get
- 41:22together. That's what that's all it
- 41:24becomes about and it's just not interesting anymore.
- 41:26That's the thing when at the time, obviously, like everyone
- 41:29else was like, yeah, when it's when it's happened because you
- 41:31know, you get sucked in and then you look at it as an adult and
- 41:34you're like, no, no, no, no. This is an awful relationship.
- 41:37They're very toxic. They should not be together.
- 41:40But you know why it worked? Because it was week by week what
- 41:45you mean. You weren't binging it, so you
- 41:47weren't like, can this fucking story just wrap up now?
- 41:50You were there each week, like, will it more bread crumbs, more
- 41:54to follow. That's how it engaged its
- 41:56audience. That is a very good point.
- 41:59Like being able to binge watch a series now does totally change
- 42:03it. Yep.
- 42:04Like, I just finished The Sopranos, which, Oh my God, wow,
- 42:08incredible show. Yeah, but that is a slug because
- 42:11it's like, every episode is an hour, right?
- 42:14It's like a mini movie every single time.
- 42:16And you really have to commit to it.
- 42:19But I would imagine that TV show was super exciting to watch week
- 42:24by week when it was first coming out because it was like, you
- 42:27know, there was a connecting story.
- 42:29But also every episode felt very different, kind of like How I
- 42:32Met Your Mother. So it kind of like keeps you
- 42:35drawn in and you don't have to see this is a problem I have
- 42:38like when when they do this, for example with like, they'll do it
- 42:43with like low key. They do it on Disney where like
- 42:45they have the whole series available, but they choose to do
- 42:48week by week. And I don't know about you, but
- 42:51I end up like forgetting like those readouts.
- 42:53I need that. Because I just forget.
- 42:55So I have a really weird thing. You know how I am about comic
- 42:58books. Let's let's get into that
- 43:00straight away. So for instance, Secret Invasion
- 43:02just came out recently. A lot of people don't like
- 43:04Secret Invasion. I did not hate Secret Invasion.
- 43:08Sorry, not sorry. But I did find that when I was
- 43:11watching it on a week by week basis because I was more excited
- 43:15about what was coming next week. That was very much a thing after
- 43:18I I'd watched it on a week by week basis.
- 43:20I watched it all the way through and it wasn't as strong because
- 43:24I'm like, there's no hype, there's no anticipation.
- 43:27And also, they butchered it at the end.
- 43:29They lost me. Like, I'm about to finish it
- 43:31soon, but I'm not putting it off because I know it's the shits,
- 43:33but I know what's happened. Like, OK, can we go spoilers?
- 43:36Can we just go into it? I spoiler warning for the.
- 43:40Podcast spoilers. Spoilers.
- 43:43I warned you, so don't have a go at me.
- 43:44Don't at me. So as I understand, we, well, we
- 43:48kind of already knew. The whole arcing storyline is
- 43:50basically this Scroll invasion happened in the 90s when Captain
- 43:54Marvel, you know, became a thing.
- 43:57Yeah. And now the storyline is, oh, so
- 44:01this means that you never know who's a Scroll and who isn't.
- 44:04So maybe some of your favorite characters are still alive.
- 44:08Oh my God. And like, the big reveal is the
- 44:12war machine. Roads, whatever his name is
- 44:15Brody. Brody is a scroll.
- 44:18But they said that. I think this stuff online says
- 44:21that it dates back to Civil War. Which is wrong, right?
- 44:25I'm going to put this out because this is a big thing in
- 44:27the Marvel fan base. The director is wrong and I I
- 44:31know that's big of director. The director of the series is
- 44:35wrong and I know that's big for me, something that on the
- 44:38Internet. How can the director be wrong?
- 44:41I mean. He says Civil war, right?
- 44:46From from that from the only time that we don't see Rhody
- 44:53with the leg supports that he needs after civil War.
- 44:57Do you remember? He needs those because Vision
- 45:00shot him out of the sky. The first time that we see him
- 45:02without him is Captain Falcon in The Winter Soldier, and there's
- 45:09no explanation for why he doesn't need them, right?
- 45:13When Roadie is saved at the end of Secret Invasion from the
- 45:17bunker they were keeping him suspended in, he has the leg
- 45:21supports. The Roadie Secret Invasion does
- 45:26not have the leg supports. He's able to just walk.
- 45:29So I So while the director's saying that I'm pretty sure good
- 45:32old Kevin's going to come out on his snapback and be like Kevin
- 45:36Feige with all of my heart, he's going to come out on this.
- 45:38Bell is at some point because fans have literally picked it
- 45:40apart and said no. Because of the leg support.
- 45:43He needs the leg support because his spine is fucked.
- 45:47And also I think as a fact this is mad because this is like
- 45:51changing Sonic's design all over again.
- 45:54The Marvel fan base will not accept that it was a scroll that
- 46:00said goodbye to Tony. I'm not having it.
- 46:04That was Roadie. That moment is.
- 46:07That moment is like. 10 years of build up that I break it to your
- 46:12kids. I was.
- 46:13Waiting for No, I did not break it to your kid.
- 46:17I think he's just a very good actor.
- 46:19He's a good actor. But the the leg support thing is
- 46:22the big thing of it because like he is dependent on them.
- 46:25They they knew they couldn't fix his back.
- 46:27Like, yeah, but if he's in an Iron Man seat, in the in the war
- 46:31machine seat, that does support him because it's the fucking
- 46:34hydraulic billion dollar suit. But when he's walking around
- 46:39normally, he always has the leg things on phase 4IN general I
- 46:44spoke about this with Shout out to Buckminster Cole below that I
- 46:52kind of feel like it's a bit of a weak story.
- 46:56I suppose where this is headed is this could, especially if you
- 47:00consider that we've got the whole multiverse thing as well
- 47:03and the ability to traverse different unifiers versus.
- 47:06There's a lot to explore there. There's a lot we we could do
- 47:08with that. I'm excited about all the
- 47:12potential with the X-Men stuff. You know, I think there's a lot
- 47:15of stuff you can flesh out there.
- 47:16I think actually Loki Season 2 is actually going to hopefully
- 47:20pick up the momentum because everything else has been, you
- 47:24know, there's just kind of like I I feel like that the biggest
- 47:27issue is if the storyline is going to be, by the time we get
- 47:30to like the next major movie, Avengers, whatever it will be.
- 47:33Kang Dynasty, right? It will be like, are we going to
- 47:37go to the point where you get different people from different
- 47:40universes, but you don't know who's a scroll and who isn't?
- 47:43Does that mean you can bring back certain people so all?
- 47:47Right. Let me do this.
- 47:48Let me do my big wanting to do this for a while.
- 47:50About phase four, I was actually going to do a video on this.
- 47:53I may still do it on the channel, do it, actually do it.
- 47:56Phase four has been very hit and miss.
- 47:58That's putting it lightly. It's had some fantastic films
- 48:02like Shang Chi, Spiderman, No Way Home, and I'll give you
- 48:07that. I personally didn't hate Quantum
- 48:10Mania, but that's because I'm very much like his villain and
- 48:14they made him look like crap. In that though, he he was comic
- 48:18accurate. In that man he looked.
- 48:19That comic book outfit was pretty spotted.
- 48:22I'm not talking about how he looks.
- 48:23He looks brilliant. I'm talking about how he's
- 48:25betrayed because so far, don't forget the 1st.
- 48:29And I said this in the last episode, but where I spoke about
- 48:33this, the past two introductions to this character, Let's say
- 48:38you're not a comic book fan, right?
- 48:40Or you're just going on what you're being shown in the
- 48:42movies, right? The first instance is in low
- 48:46key, right? He explains everything.
- 48:49He gets killed instantly. And then that shows you like, Oh
- 48:53my God, like, you know, he's everywhere.
- 48:55And then it felt big. It felt huge, right?
- 48:59Fast forward to Ant Man and he just gets punked out really
- 49:01easily. Now granted, that's one in one
- 49:04specific universe, but still, it's like we're trying to build
- 49:07him as a fret, you know? Look at how look at how Thanos
- 49:11was built. Yeah, but he's not dead in that
- 49:14specific universe you mean. That one from Ant Man.
- 49:18He's not dead. No, he you just pissed him off
- 49:22big time. No, he's not specific when he
- 49:26was dead, I'm sure of it. He's not dead.
- 49:29He's incapacitated. He's not dead, so millions and
- 49:32millions of metal ants can't kill him.
- 49:36No, come on, He's Tang the Conqueror.
- 49:39He's shrunk again. He's shrunk even into a
- 49:43completely different. Sub sector of the Quantum realm.
- 49:48Now the what we're hearing and these leaks are normally fairly
- 49:52accurate. So potential spoilers for the
- 49:55upcoming Avengers films. The Avengers Kang Dynasty is
- 49:58going to deal with all of the Kangs that stopped that Kangs.
- 50:04So the Mortars, Ramata, Silver Centurion, you know when we saw
- 50:08the Colosseum of Kangs at the end will be about them because
- 50:12they're like. The Avengers are touching the
- 50:14multiverse. We've got, we've got to stop
- 50:15this now and and that will be that big one at the end of it
- 50:20all, The Kang that was in at Man The and the Waskontomania, he
- 50:27will play the role of Doctor Doom in Secret Wars.
- 50:32So he won't be Doctor Doom, but he will be after this massive
- 50:36multiversal war goes on with the Council of Kangs and The
- 50:39Avengers from across the multiverse.
- 50:42He will take reality and he will piece together what he can from
- 50:46incursions that happen of universes colliding into each
- 50:49other. And he will make one world,
- 50:51which will most likely be called Battle World as it is in the
- 50:53comics because that's what it is in the Avenge of Secret War
- 50:56comics and it's called Avenge of Secret War.
- 50:59And from that he will be God and it will be down to everyone that
- 51:04he said, because he does save people.
- 51:06He saves entire sections of the universe as he tries to make a
- 51:09functioning world. It will be down to those
- 51:12Avengers and everyone else X-Men to try and take him down.
- 51:19Take the power of God from him and then from there the
- 51:22Fantastic Four go off and start recreating the universe properly
- 51:27as it. That's how it goes in the
- 51:28comics, except it's Doctor Doom, not Kang, but the leaks are
- 51:32suggesting it will be Kang that takes out Doctor Doom position.
- 51:36So it's all making sense. It's just.
- 51:41How it's intricately woven and I think the problem they have with
- 51:46the multiverse stuff, and it's something that I've always said
- 51:48I was worried about, is I've been following this for a long
- 51:52time, man. I've been following this shit
- 51:54since before it was MTU as you have as well like, but it was,
- 51:58you know, we have Sam rabies, Spider bad, those awful Ghost
- 52:00Rider beans, the. Original Fantastic Force.
- 52:02All that, right? You can't just give me fan
- 52:05service anymore. You can't just dangle the keys
- 52:09in front of me and say, oh, look at this character from this
- 52:11universe I'm not by. That's not enough to sell, I
- 52:13agree. I agree with that.
- 52:15Doctor Strange and the multiverse about I hated it.
- 52:18I loved Reed Richards, John Kaczynski.
- 52:21Yeah, I loved seeing Professor X back.
- 52:25I love seeing black back. That's not enough.
- 52:27Professor X got punked out straight away and I was just
- 52:30like, oh, she's. Yeah, she can do that.
- 52:33Not being funny she's she's that powerful in the comics like
- 52:38Charles is when she goes mad and she's like destroying realities
- 52:42in the House of and that that Charles is like trying to keep
- 52:45her asleep. And I don't have a problem with
- 52:47that. I I accept that Scott the Witch
- 52:49is a really powerful character. That's that's no problem.
- 52:54The issue I have is like you introduce this, you know,
- 52:58reintroduce this huge character and then just kill them off
- 53:02straight away. Do you know what I mean it this
- 53:03feels a bit. It's because none of those
- 53:05characters are going to be the main cast, like John Kasinski
- 53:09isn't going to be Mr. Fantastic in Fantastic Four.
- 53:13Patrick Shewitt isn't going to be the new Professor X, although
- 53:16apparently now there's rumors they want to pull McAvoy and
- 53:18Fassbender back. And I'm like.
- 53:20Stuff from other universes that you want to keep here because it
- 53:23doesn't. Continuity wise, this doesn't
- 53:25make sense. And this is kind of what I was
- 53:26going back to you before. Stop dangling keys in front of
- 53:29my face and make it worth something for the plot.
- 53:33Like Toby and Andrew was one of the greatest cinematic
- 53:38experiences I've ever had in my life.
- 53:41I didn't think anything was going to top cap, get in the
- 53:43hammer and then like 2 years later.
- 53:47Oh shit, that was the same level.
- 53:48Okay people like screaming with happiness in the cinema.
- 53:51Love it. That's.
- 53:54Great, but now I want it to matter.
- 53:55To the plot. If you're going to bring these
- 53:57people in, let it have something to do with the narrative of the
- 54:03film besides fanservice Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
- 54:08Come back for Deadpool 3. Great.
- 54:10He's got the comic outfit. Oh my fucking God, I'm so on
- 54:13board as Ryan Reynolds said. We're not touching Logan.
- 54:17This is separate from that. Fine.
- 54:20That's what I want. Don't just dangle it in front of
- 54:22my face for the sake of it. Do something.
- 54:24Dip. Don't ever fuck with Logan,
- 54:26because that film is an absolute masterpiece.
- 54:29Just do something. So this is its own thing and
- 54:31this is going to go in. This is MCU now, so will Hugh
- 54:34Jackman keep coming back? Who knows.
- 54:35But let's just make it plot centric.
- 54:39Don't just be like here's Hugh Jackman.
- 54:41That's what I want. That's what I want going for ran
- 54:43over. I agree, man.
- 54:46All right, I'm. I'm going to switch things up
- 54:48massively and throw something at you that I'm not really sure how
- 54:51you're going to react to this. Yeah.
- 54:55So if you don't want to talk about it, we we don't have to
- 54:58talk about it. So you've been on the show?
- 55:03Seven times, Yeah. We've spoken about Sonic at
- 55:07Nauseam. I love talking about Sonic.
- 55:09That's be wrong. One thing I've never asked you
- 55:12about, which I've I've only really learned about this in the
- 55:16past year cuz I've been kind of looking into Internet law.
- 55:20Okay all my research. What are your thoughts on
- 55:25sonitude? When I was sitting down writing
- 55:32the question, I was thinking, does he know about this?
- 55:34And I'm like of course he knows about this.
- 55:36Like how can you not know about this?
- 55:38But here's the thing. Here's the thing.
- 55:41We don't have to go. Into anything about Christian
- 55:44because that's the whole show waiting to happen.
- 55:47I want to kind of focus more specifically on this character
- 55:53as it pertains. To Sonic, as it pertains to like
- 55:59issues of copyright, stuff like that.
- 56:02So like looking at you're just kind of general thoughts on this
- 56:05character? I.
- 56:09Mean I don't. I should probably preface this.
- 56:11Before we get into saying I don't speak on behalf of say
- 56:15None of what I say is representative of everything
- 56:18that Sega says. You know, the the, the, the
- 56:20standard of this claim. I was speaking as my own
- 56:21individual and I I implore creativity.
- 56:27I think it's great to like if if if Copper was a complete thing,
- 56:31I wouldn't be able to sit here and draw pictures of Sonic and
- 56:34characters and things like that like so I I completely support
- 56:37ones. Right to create their own things
- 56:43as to some of the the content. That this.
- 56:48The song that you went down and it surrounds it.
- 56:50That is not my cup of tea. I mean no discrimination towards
- 56:55anyone whose cup of tea it is. It's just it's a weird one.
- 57:01It's a it's a relic from a bygone Internet age, isn't it?
- 57:05And the problem is it's become. So intrinsically linked with how
- 57:12problematic Chris or Christine Chandler is, I'm not sure which
- 57:19one going by now. So I mean no offense by using
- 57:21either one. I know Chris has, it's got it's
- 57:24been Chris, it's been Christine, it's been it has flip flop back
- 57:27once or twice I think. So Christine still goes by Chris
- 57:31chat because obviously Chris is short for Christine but they
- 57:34identify as she her okay. So I I meant no.
- 57:38Offense and of course, but yeah, very problematic.
- 57:44Really can't support any of the stuff that's come out recently.
- 57:47And again, I didn't, I didn't want to focus so much on that.
- 57:50Yeah, no, I know. Completely.
- 57:51But it's so. Difficult to separate them.
- 57:54Well okay, because if I think solitude, I think of the
- 57:57picture. With the chain around the neck,
- 58:01the huge solitude chain that yay or the that's the first thing my
- 58:06mind goes to. I just okay.
- 58:08There's a few things I want to explore with you on this, cuz
- 58:11this is more where I want to kind of guide the conversation.
- 58:13Cuz yeah, I knew when I was gonna ask you this there'd be
- 58:15some interesting stuff to flesh out here.
- 58:17So talking about copyright, and I've had like disagreements with
- 58:23my housemate over this because we like to talk about this quite
- 58:25a lot. And he one time we were sitting
- 58:27there playing Mario Kart right? And it almost turned into an
- 58:32argument because he was like, he was adamant that.
- 58:38Chris Chan was able to claim sort of like some ownership
- 58:42creative rights over the character, and I immediately was
- 58:45like, no, what do you mean it's owned by Sega and I suppose
- 58:50Nintendo, Pokémon Company, whatever, right?
- 58:53Like so. They can't possibly make any
- 58:55money off of it, but they have consistently.
- 58:59And apparently there's something in law that actually protects
- 59:02this I. Don't excuse me, I'm.
- 59:05Not an expat copper right law. No me either.
- 59:07But but like there's there's something out there which
- 59:12because it's kind of like. It's from what I read, it's like
- 59:17something along the lines of like transformative content.
- 59:21But I'm just surprised over the years that considering the fact
- 59:26that Christian has made money through the comics through
- 59:29various other things they've done with this character selling
- 59:32merchant, right, I'm surprised that Nintendo or the Pokémon
- 59:36Company never sued them or or kind of made a claim or
- 59:39something like that. I'm not sure.
- 59:42I mean like I drew a picture of Sonic in Spiderman seat.
- 59:48To his own like it's full head shape but like it was the full
- 59:50spider. I thought it was quite cool and
- 59:53I I did the proper spider symbol on there that on the center of
- 59:58the chest and I suppose if I tried to make something off of
- 1:00:01that Disney. Could turn.
- 1:00:04Around and say that. Yep, that's ours, But that
- 1:00:09Disney would. Go for you and Disney would
- 1:00:11absolutely understand. But then more.
- 1:00:13To be fair, I've seen some. Clothing companies recently that
- 1:00:15are producing stuff that I'm like.
- 1:00:18Yeah, the the the copyright owners do not know about that
- 1:00:21clearly because that would be straight off.
- 1:00:23Probably just trying their luck as, yeah, how long they can get
- 1:00:26along with it, yeah, because all they'll get.
- 1:00:27Is a cease and desist to start? Probably it's like, do you
- 1:00:30remember when we were going, I mean, OK, this is a bit
- 1:00:32different, but remember when we were growing up and we used to
- 1:00:34go to Camden Town and there was like all those bootleg, you
- 1:00:38know, Metallica tshirts, for example, You know what I mean?
- 1:00:41Like, I I got like so many of my bootleg shirts and they were
- 1:00:45great quality, but they were all bootleg 100%.
- 1:00:48Oh yeah, of course. But you don't really see that
- 1:00:50anymore. Like, they've kind of ironed
- 1:00:53that out quite. Yeah, a little bit.
- 1:00:55I think the music industry is kind of taking hold of that.
- 1:00:57Because they're not making money from music anymore.
- 1:01:01They are making money from merch and stuff like that.
- 1:01:04When you think about that, like the music industry, and you
- 1:01:07don't make money from music, actually Spotify pay your
- 1:01:10artists more. Jesus Christ 0.0001 penny per
- 1:01:15plate. The whole reason they're.
- 1:01:17Using your app is because of these.
- 1:01:18Artists, come on, give them more money.
- 1:01:23Let's bring it back to Sonic. What do you think the future
- 1:01:26holds for the franchise? Because obviously, I think the
- 1:01:29last time we spoke it had hit 30 years, so.
- 1:01:34Yes, I think we're on 30. Two now this year, right?
- 1:01:38So let's say one. Say one last time we spoke.
- 1:01:39When can we really? Go forward with this.
- 1:01:42I mean, Sonic has. Sonic is probably more popular
- 1:01:46now than he ever has been. And the movie?
- 1:01:49What? Just like the movie and the
- 1:01:52movie, He's a household name. Again, he is completely.
- 1:01:55A household name Again, kids, I've never seen so much Sonic
- 1:01:59merchandise out there. You know I'm you going to a
- 1:02:02Tesco now You will find Sonic toys.
- 1:02:05Like, kids are eating this stuff up.
- 1:02:08Every kid is getting solid stuff for home.
- 1:02:10I, you know, I see kids going to school in the morning when I'm
- 1:02:13on my way to work with Sonic backpacks and stuff like that.
- 1:02:15Walking past the office like bigger than it's ever been.
- 1:02:19And we've got the third movie coming next year.
- 1:02:21I was going to ask you about that.
- 1:02:23Yes, so December 2020. 4 Shadow the Hedgehog will be making live
- 1:02:30action, baby. So you'll be the villain,
- 1:02:33surely? Yeah.
- 1:02:36But I'm from what the writers have said online.
- 1:02:33I think they're going to be Sonic Adventure too.
- 1:02:35I don't. I'm pretty sure it's going to be
- 1:02:39Sonic. I think.
- 1:02:39I think the logical move there is bring in Shadow as a villain
- 1:02:44and then they definitely going to go for some sort of Sonic
- 1:02:48universe deal aren't they? Probably.
- 1:02:50I mean, yeah, they they you've got the.
- 1:02:52Knuckles show coming and the spinoff show from the Movie with
- 1:02:56Idris Elbara's Knuckles some pal.
- 1:02:58Plus, that'll be coming soon. And then you've got movie three.
- 1:03:02They want to build a Sonic cinematic universe.
- 1:03:04I I mean, again, I don't know this about insider info, but
- 1:03:07like just from what I'm seeing, from how they're building this
- 1:03:09and spinning off stuff, I I would love for us to get like a
- 1:03:13shadow movie down the line or something like that.
- 1:03:14I was gonna say that would be a no brainer.
- 1:03:16I think especially especially with like how how it looked
- 1:03:20years ago, like I remember you playing the like that PS2 game
- 1:03:24to death and it still holds up all these years later.
- 1:03:27Like the character is very intriguing, like also just from
- 1:03:31a visual standpoint, because obviously all the Sonic
- 1:03:33characters somewhat are like visually reminiscent of of Sonic
- 1:03:41in Shadow. Shadow is the most obvious
- 1:03:42example of that. Like, it's almost like the
- 1:03:45antithesis to him, yeah? It's it's an intriguing, there's
- 1:03:49a lot to explore there from a story.
- 1:03:51One thing that I think is really interesting.
- 1:03:53Is Jeff Fowler the director of the Sonic movies?
- 1:03:56Worked on the cutscenes for Shadow the Hedgehog, the game
- 1:04:01which is some of the most beautiful cutscenes we've had in
- 1:04:03the series. They're very CGI, very
- 1:04:05beautiful, and he knows his character very, very well.
- 1:04:09And a lot of people were a bit critical that they've skipped
- 1:04:13Sonic Adventure One in terms of the movies and gone straight to
- 1:04:16Sonic Adventure Two. And it's like no.
- 1:04:18It it makes complete sense. Shadow is the second most
- 1:04:22popular character in the entire franchise.
- 1:04:24Wow, really. And yeah, he's every time we
- 1:04:26poll it, he's he's the second after Sonic.
- 1:04:29Is that based on merch sales as well or is that just general
- 1:04:33polling asking nearly like? Every year or so I see the the
- 1:04:38Sonic social media is picking out something that's trying to
- 1:04:40gauge this interest, or you see a YouTuber do it or something
- 1:04:43like that. It's always Shadow, Second
- 1:04:44Sonic. It makes sense to capitalize on
- 1:04:48this. And because Jeff Fallon knows
- 1:04:52the character so well and loves the character so much, I can't
- 1:04:56wait to see what. Comes out of this, man.
- 1:04:58By the concept are for the post credit scene.
- 1:05:00In the last film in Sonic 2, it had Gerald Robotnik full of
- 1:05:06bullets up against the wall. But they had.
- 1:05:10Him fully facing the firing squad and everything, and that
- 1:05:12didn't make it into the movie. But it seems like they're
- 1:05:16pretty. I love you.
- 1:05:18The dedication to the source of Cereal I.
- 1:05:20Love that you call him Robotnik as well.
- 1:05:22That's the same here, brother. Same.
- 1:05:24So that's it. So this is I.
- 1:05:26I always have to explain this to the like the general audience,
- 1:05:29because people don't understand this.
- 1:05:31But Doctor Robotnik was his English name.
- 1:05:34His Western name, right? In Japan, he's always been.
- 1:05:39Called Doctor Eggman. Oh wow.
- 1:05:42And then in Sonic Adventure one. He was still called Robotnik and
- 1:05:46Sonic called him Eggman as an insult to take the piss out of
- 1:05:51him. Robotnik decided from that
- 1:05:54point, instead of Sonic being able to use it as an insult
- 1:05:57against him, he was going to own it.
- 1:06:00And then it wouldn't work. Sonic's jabs wouldn't hit him.
- 1:06:03So from then on he calls himself Doctor Eggman.
- 1:06:06He is still Doctor Robotnik, he just refers to himself as Doctor
- 1:06:10Eggman so Sonic can't take the piss out of him.
- 1:06:12Oh, there you go. That a bit of Sonic law there,
- 1:06:15Sonic Law, yeah. Because I knew there was
- 1:06:17something there where they like really branded it or whatever,
- 1:06:19but like I didn't know that specifically.
- 1:06:22That's our reason. All right there.
- 1:06:25We go as we kind of like draw things to a close.
- 1:06:29I've got like a bunch of different questions I want to
- 1:06:31ask you. I'm sort of like testing out
- 1:06:34questions, I guess. So you're my, you're my test
- 1:06:37subject. Okay.
- 1:06:39But it's fun stuff. I don't know.
- 1:06:41Like I I have like this list of questions.
- 1:06:44It's like, I suppose I kind. Of prepared it like this.
- 1:06:48I'm not I'm looking there's like loads and loads Oh wow.
- 1:06:51Yeah. It's it's like in the event that
- 1:06:52like if I ever don't have a show prepared or it's like a last
- 1:06:56minute deal or I just don't have anything to ask a question ask
- 1:07:00of my my guest, I'll go here because a lot of the time with
- 1:07:05with questions it's you know you riff off them.
- 1:07:10Do you know what I mean? Like you you.
- 1:07:12Because I think this is the interesting thing about
- 1:07:14interviewing and discussions is as long as you're invested in
- 1:07:17the conversation, you can ad Lib, you can guide it whatever.
- 1:07:20Like you just need these as like starting off points.
- 1:07:23Throwing off points. Yeah.
- 1:07:25And if there's stuff there, you can flesh it out and go and move
- 1:07:27with it. If there isn't, just keep asking
- 1:07:30until something goes wrong. Yeah, I feel that completely.
- 1:07:34But I did want. To ask you this cuz I think this
- 1:07:36is interesting. Earlier you mentioned about
- 1:07:38making mistakes and how you've learned from that, and I heard
- 1:07:42this beautiful question the other day and I totally am
- 1:07:45stealing it. What's the biggest mistake
- 1:07:48you've made that you've learned a valuable life lesson from?
- 1:07:57I. Would say.
- 1:08:05I made quite a lot of financial. Mistakes in my time.
- 1:08:09I like spending money, particularly when I don't really
- 1:08:15have it. So that big, big problem that a
- 1:08:18lot of us face. And someone said this to me when
- 1:08:21they were my age now, and I wish I'd listened to them.
- 1:08:27Start saving. They said this.
- 1:08:28News when I was about 20. One, start paying money aside
- 1:08:31because you don't want to get to your 30s and then start saving.
- 1:08:38Because it's so difficult. And guess what?
- 1:08:41I did exactly what they what they told me not to do.
- 1:08:44And I can get tell from your face, Sir you probably it's not
- 1:08:47like I haven't tried. There's been you know what it's
- 1:08:51so different savings. And then just life happens.
- 1:08:54Yeah. Life.
- 1:08:55Just gets in the way. Yeah, I completely get it.
- 1:08:58It's not. Easy.
- 1:09:00But you know what? If you're if you're in your
- 1:09:01early 20s and you're not paying rent to be at home, for
- 1:09:05instance, and you you know you're working a full time job
- 1:09:08and while you could piss out the whole weekend, just try and put
- 1:09:12some money. Aside every month because.
- 1:09:14Honestly, even if it's a little that adds up.
- 1:09:17And when you get to my age, you'd be like, I actually have
- 1:09:20something to sit on to start planning for my future.
- 1:09:23Because Jesus Christ, man. It's difficult.
- 1:09:29It's not easy. So yeah, that would.
- 1:09:32That would be I've made I've. Made some awful financial
- 1:09:34decisions in my past and I would say make better ones that that
- 1:09:37would be my piece of advice. Not easy, but try what?
- 1:09:41Is the most unexpected piece of advice you ever received.
- 1:09:51Do you know what? I'm just.
- 1:09:53Going to sound really sad, but it was a TikTok, It was a TikTok
- 1:09:56and it was of John Cena. Oh, cool.
- 1:09:58It's the best piece of advice he'd ever been given.
- 1:10:03And it was. I'll give some context.
- 1:10:06It's because I feel like this has kind of been.
- 1:10:09Lost in? People's work ethic in general
- 1:10:12recently because I think we we are part of a more empowered.
- 1:10:15On a demographic now we're like, no, we won't be treated like
- 1:10:18shit in the workplace. And actually we know we do want
- 1:10:20these conditions and these benefits and stuff like that.
- 1:10:23So it's kind of unheard of, but I don't think it detracts from
- 1:10:25that lesson necessarily. But John Cena said be the.
- 1:10:30First person to turn up. Work harder than everyone else.
- 1:10:36And be, be, give out the same energy as you receive.
- 1:10:41And I was just like, yeah. Because I kind of do that.
- 1:10:47And it's something that I didn't really expect to hear so much
- 1:10:49because I said we we are kind of getting in this thing now of
- 1:10:53like rightfully so we. Expect more from.
- 1:10:56Employer, but I think also there are some cases on the net where
- 1:11:01that gets pushed to absolute extremes, whether there is a
- 1:11:04very, very small, very, very, very small.
- 1:11:08Amount of people that are just like I, I well, I'm just going
- 1:11:12to clock in and do the bare. Minimum I can until there's my
- 1:11:15moments to clock out and I'm going to take my money and I'm
- 1:11:17going to go home and I'm just a bit like, yeah, you can do that.
- 1:11:21You're perfect within your right to do that.
- 1:11:23You get paid for what you do. But when it comes to things like
- 1:11:27wanting future opportunities within a company and stuff like
- 1:11:30that, doing things like being the first one there and making
- 1:11:33sure you are the person working hardest goes a long way.
- 1:11:37Definitely goes a long way. What quote most resonates with
- 1:11:44you? It's a quote from Shadow
- 1:11:49Hedgehog. In Sonic 06, and it is a quote I
- 1:11:53live my life by and it's going to sound kind of corny, but I'll
- 1:11:55give a bit of that explanation to it.
- 1:11:57And it's if the world chooses to become my enemy, then I will
- 1:12:02fight like I always have. And for me, it's.
- 1:12:06A question of your morals. And it's like even if the world
- 1:12:13decides that you are then the enemy, you keep sticking up for
- 1:12:18what you believe is right. You keep doing the things that
- 1:12:23help other people you. Keep you.
- 1:12:25Keep going because the struggle is.
- 1:12:29Real, but when you come out the other.
- 1:12:31End of it, do you know? What I mean it'll mean
- 1:12:34something. And that's kind of what I try
- 1:12:37and. Live my life by you.
- 1:12:38Know if the whole world tomorrow decides that I'm the enemy now.
- 1:12:43Well, I'm going to keep putting out the same positive energy I'm
- 1:12:46trying to put out. I'm going to keep putting in the
- 1:12:48same amount of hard work and dedication that I can, and
- 1:12:52nothing's going to change for me.
- 1:12:55You know things will improve, but I'm not going to change who
- 1:12:58I am in this in the face of what everyone else has threatened me,
- 1:13:02within reasonable limits. Let me but let me just caveat
- 1:13:05that. Because you know as times change
- 1:13:08and we do become more tolerant and more open to more things in
- 1:13:10the world, you do have to change your perspective.
- 1:13:13Probably good once a year to just take a look and would and
- 1:13:15be like where do my morals sit on certain issues now?
- 1:13:19Like, for instance, if you think in the 90s, right when we were
- 1:13:23born, gay marriage. Wasn't a thing.
- 1:13:27It wasn't particularly accepted now.
- 1:13:30I wouldn't ever question it. Fuck yeah, like, like.
- 1:13:34Gay people get married. Love is love at the end of the
- 1:13:36day who get but we. That wasn't the way we were
- 1:13:40taught in the 90s and if you think it's like a 20 year shift,
- 1:13:43that's the that's the thing though.
- 1:13:45Like I feel like with our generation I we always knew.
- 1:13:48We always knew. It was OK, yeah.
- 1:13:50Like, there was the whole thing, like when we were at school
- 1:13:53where like the word was kind of used in a derogatory manner.
- 1:13:57But do you remember, like, for a while it was kind of popular to
- 1:14:00use the word, but it meant more like something is crap.
- 1:14:04Like, this thing sucks. Yeah.
- 1:14:06And there were, there were people at our school that were
- 1:14:09that were gay that would use that word as well.
- 1:14:11And I actually once had an interaction.
- 1:14:14In school where I about full transparency, I quite offended
- 1:14:18someone. Oh, wow.
- 1:14:20Because I was used. They were gay.
- 1:14:22And I I used gay in that way. And you know if that person's
- 1:14:28watching now, I really do apologize.
- 1:14:30Again, that was never my intention.
- 1:14:32But I do think as well what we do need to think about with that
- 1:14:34is that word did mean something different when it was being used
- 1:14:38in that way. It wasn't ever in regards to a a
- 1:14:42homosexual individual. Yeah, I feel like.
- 1:14:45You know what I mean? But it wasn't people that ever
- 1:14:47actually thought that way. Yeah.
- 1:14:49But then what happened? Well, there was that behavior.
- 1:14:52There was a shift. You remember the assembly?
- 1:14:54Yeah, we stopped using it. The assembly, that was awful,
- 1:14:58but that's it. Do you know?
- 1:14:59What I mean times change. So as much as what I'm saying, I
- 1:15:03do live by that quote. I do think it's very important
- 1:15:05to maybe reevaluate once a year, every six months, and just be
- 1:15:08like actually how how is society changing?
- 1:15:10How are my views changing? How can I be more?
- 1:15:14I think that's solid. Like, one thing I've noticed is
- 1:15:16the world will always change around you and you have to
- 1:15:19adapt. But if your heart is in the
- 1:15:23right place, I feel like that adapting process is very easy.
- 1:15:29Yeah, I agree. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:15:30Like, for instance, if you take like the gender, the whole
- 1:15:33gender pronouns thing, I get a bit like, I'm not gonna lie, I
- 1:15:37get a bit confused sometimes. But if someone turns around to
- 1:15:40me and says, can you just use this?
- 1:15:42I'm like, yeah, sure. And that that's it.
- 1:15:44It's not really a big deal if you just kind of like show
- 1:15:47respect and just be honest. I never list mine.
- 1:15:51And I feel like it's because it's an area that I know very
- 1:15:56little. About I'm not.
- 1:15:59Affiliated with it in any way that's not, that's not me saying
- 1:16:02I'm opposed to it, but like it's not talking about me and
- 1:16:05therefore I feel very strange. Giving my opinion on something.
- 1:16:10Which doesn't affect me at all. And like, for me to put like he
- 1:16:16him on my profiles, I feel would be kind of virtue signaling,
- 1:16:19because it's nothing that I involves me and I feel like it
- 1:16:25would be not. Maybe not virtue signal, but I
- 1:16:27feel it would be slightly disingenuous of me to start
- 1:16:29doing that because I'm just not educated enough.
- 1:16:32Do you not feel that? Maybe It might show that you're
- 1:16:34in support of this thing, you know that.
- 1:16:38You I. Understand that.
- 1:16:40What is the support of a straight, white male to someone
- 1:16:44like that? Do you know what I mean?
- 1:16:45Like, well, I mean, it's it's, it's so do I have.
- 1:16:48It shows that you take the whole concept seriously.
- 1:16:51I do. I I think I do.
- 1:16:53But I just don't want it to come across as like I don't know what
- 1:16:57the fuck I'm talking about in that regard.
- 1:16:59I'm not educated in that. I'm not.
- 1:17:02It's just. But then people might say, well,
- 1:17:04why don't you educate yourself? And I I have a conversation.
- 1:17:07With a trans individual, which you know I do on regular basis,
- 1:17:11you know that is me learning and educating myself.
- 1:17:15But I'm also I just. I don't know, I feel.
- 1:17:18Like in the same way it's not for.
- 1:17:21Me as. A white male to go I can.
- 1:17:25I can stand up for racism, stand up against racism.
- 1:17:29But I can't. Is it really for me to be out
- 1:17:31there saying? Telling people, what's more, I'm
- 1:17:34not the one affected by it. It's for the people that are
- 1:17:36feeling the negative shit. To say this is how I want
- 1:17:39society to change. It's not for me to say how I
- 1:17:41want society to change in that regard because I'm not feeling
- 1:17:44it. I don't understand it.
- 1:17:45I don't. I can't have that full grasp of
- 1:17:48the situation because it's not happening to me.
- 1:17:51I can only be told I can't. I can't experience it and
- 1:17:55therefore is it completely genuine of me.
- 1:18:00To go out and tell other people how to amend.
- 1:18:02Their behavior in that. Regard, I don't know.
- 1:18:05I'm asking the question maybe it is, maybe that is that is
- 1:18:08something that I need to do as a person.
- 1:18:10And you know if any, if any of your viewers want to comment on
- 1:18:14this and let me know because I genuinely don't know my place in
- 1:18:17the world on this one. I actually I've checked my
- 1:18:20stats. So fun fact in I don't know on
- 1:18:24YouTube but I do know my audio listeners about because 8 or 9%
- 1:18:29of my listeners are non binary which I found very very
- 1:18:32interesting Hello and I I don't know like I think with this.
- 1:18:40Like, I've I've come across this every now and again, and I've
- 1:18:42had some interesting conversations over the years,
- 1:18:44and I think the biggest thing I've kind of learned is just
- 1:18:49kind of try to show your. Support for things.
- 1:18:52Do you try to educate yourself with things?
- 1:18:54I I get some of where you're coming from.
- 1:18:56Like, I I think that like, you know, I'm not going to sit here
- 1:19:00and and ever pretend to be like an authority on these things.
- 1:19:03Like I'm just learning like yourself.
- 1:19:05But I think it does help. But I'll give you an example,
- 1:19:08right. When I do live streams,
- 1:19:11occasionally you get people come in and they said like, hey do
- 1:19:14you support trans? Do you what are your pronouns?
- 1:19:18Etcetera. And I just, I just say what it
- 1:19:21is. You know, I just go like to him
- 1:19:24and yes I do. And you know, and I found that
- 1:19:29that's been quite positive. I found that there's been people
- 1:19:33who've kind of found, I suppose my live streams as as being like
- 1:19:37a like a safe place. So, so I think that like
- 1:19:41especially because you know, you've got community as well and
- 1:19:43I don't doubt that there's probably people in your
- 1:19:45community that are non binary and would kind of appreciate
- 1:19:50that from you. But I do also understand that,
- 1:19:52like, that doesn't mean that like, suddenly you just change
- 1:19:57everything up and like, you know, become an expert on this.
- 1:19:59It's like, I suppose it's you do the necessary education and you
- 1:20:05always just kind of keep your ears and eyes open and you just
- 1:20:09do your best, don't it? I mean, I had.
- 1:20:10I actually had one of my trans viewers reach out to me.
- 1:20:13This last year and they asked if I could make a a trans version
- 1:20:19of the term hatchling which is what I call my subscribers and I
- 1:20:24just said no, I'm not going to do that because at current point
- 1:20:28hatchling doesn't mean male or female hatchling is completely
- 1:20:33inclusive. It doesn't matter what you are
- 1:20:36you you are a hatchling. You don't even have to be human
- 1:20:39to be a hatchling. You could be entirely different
- 1:20:42species. You could be a chicken.
- 1:20:43You could be chicken to the hatchling empire.
- 1:20:45And I was like, I don't want to create barriers, I I want that
- 1:20:50to be a completely all inclusive.
- 1:20:52Thing and I think my stance on all of these things in the in
- 1:20:54the world at the moment is do what makes you happy.
- 1:20:59I have no issue with anyone doing anything that makes them
- 1:21:02happy as long as it's not hurting anyone else.
- 1:21:05And what I would really stress is if you think it's hurting
- 1:21:08you, like if you think someone identifying as the other sex is
- 1:21:11hurting you or you think that someone loving the same sex is
- 1:21:15hurting you, it's time to reevaluate.
- 1:21:18Because how is that really hurting you?
- 1:21:21What's that? It's like I was telling a friend
- 1:21:23knew anything I was. Telling a friend this the other
- 1:21:25day like I worked in this place and.
- 1:21:27We had someone join our team who was trans, so they used to
- 1:21:35identify as a girl and now they identify as a boy and like my
- 1:21:40manager at the time, just kind of pulled me aside and said,
- 1:21:42hey, just so you know, they go by these pronouns.
- 1:21:46Okay. And I'm like, Yep.
- 1:21:47And that was kind of it. And I.
- 1:21:49Remember, there was someone on my team who was like sort of
- 1:21:51struggling with that. And I was like, well, you know,
- 1:21:54what's the problem? And they were like, well, you
- 1:21:56know, like I see a girl when I look at them and I'm like, okay,
- 1:22:00but is it really that hard to just switch?
- 1:22:02You're going to make mistakes. Don't go wrong.
- 1:22:03I make mistakes. Like you just a broad new
- 1:22:06landscape, isn't that you know, you just correct yourself like I
- 1:22:09always think back to that old. Super old episode of Star Trek
- 1:22:14DS9 or something I think it was and see Star Trek's always way
- 1:22:19ahead of this shit. So there was a character who I
- 1:22:23guess was non non binary or like they have this this thing where
- 1:22:27there's a species. This this is like really nerdy
- 1:22:31because Symbia species where the the, the there's like a.
- 1:22:38Host and. Then the the actual Organism.
- 1:22:56Etcetera. So the Organism obviously gets
- 1:22:43different hosts. So in one life they are male,
- 1:22:46they might have a male host and they have a female host.
- 1:22:49Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly.
- 1:22:53Except that the host is is like different.
- 1:22:57So this Klingon meets this character called Cozon Dax.
- 1:23:02I think that that was the name of the character at the time and
- 1:23:05they'd previously met this character as a male and they
- 1:23:08were like, oh, it's my good friend and they and they they he
- 1:23:14he calls Dax by their former name.
- 1:23:18And so then, Dax then says Oh well.
- 1:23:21Now it's Cozon Dax and he's just like, he stops for a second and
- 1:23:25he goes. It's my friend Like what
- 1:23:29embraces them with the new name and it's like that's a perfect
- 1:23:33example of just like how easy it is.
- 1:23:35Yeah, you know, just that done it is, I think, I think it's a
- 1:23:41very tricky topic in the sense of what I was saying previously
- 1:23:48about what you divided. There's too much attacking.
- 1:23:53Just sit if you. Have really like anti trans
- 1:23:57views. Sit down with a trans person for
- 1:23:59an hour and just have a conversation.
- 1:24:01Don't with each other. Don't shout each other.
- 1:24:04The problem with that specific. Viewpoint is that like those
- 1:24:10people are not willing to to have those kind of conversations
- 1:24:13and that's the problem, right? But that I don't know that
- 1:24:17that's specific. Yeah.
- 1:24:19Well, yeah. OK.
- 1:24:20So that overarching point. But you're always going to get
- 1:24:22people like that in society, of course.
- 1:24:25You know, there's always going to be people at the fringe who
- 1:24:28just kind of have extreme views or whatever and there's just no
- 1:24:31getting through to them. I mean, all you can really do is
- 1:24:34just keep trying to educate people and keep trying to just
- 1:24:38to have that open dialogue and and welcome people as well.
- 1:24:41And I never push people away and just be like you ever want to
- 1:24:44talk. We can talk, but we are always
- 1:24:47going to have that divide, as you say, if we can improve that
- 1:24:50by just 1%, absolutely just 1% more.
- 1:24:55Think how much hate is eliminated from that.
- 1:24:58It makes an impact, man. It's it's a little thing of like
- 1:25:01the the beat of a butterfly's wings and crazy, you know, it
- 1:25:05creates a tornado halfway across the world.
- 1:25:08The the little actions we can have, I think as a species, by
- 1:25:12sitting down with each other and having that conversation, even
- 1:25:14if it's only a tiny amount that goes on just somewhat, slightly
- 1:25:18improves the world we live in. This is why, because I remember
- 1:25:22a. Few years ago someone criticized
- 1:25:26me for being a fencer and for not taking stands on certain
- 1:25:30things, and it comes from my fear of confrontation.
- 1:25:34I hate confrontation and I still like my way of functioning is
- 1:25:40no. If we're going to have a
- 1:25:41disagreement. We're going to sit down and talk
- 1:25:43about it. You know, I will wait until
- 1:25:46you're not angry anymore and then we can talk about it.
- 1:25:47I'm not going to have a fight. That's not how I work and I
- 1:25:52refuse to be a part of that, but I do understand people being
- 1:25:58angry at like you. You do have to take a stand on
- 1:26:00things. Sometimes you have to take a
- 1:26:02stand. And so that's something I've
- 1:26:04been attempting to do more and more.
- 1:26:07I don't actively get involved in the fight.
- 1:26:10You know, I avoid things like politics and religion as much as
- 1:26:14I can because, you know, it's it's beliefs.
- 1:26:18It's. I try to focus on.
- 1:26:22Like myself and and I'm just. Putting out something positive
- 1:26:25to the world? Yeah, like those are your
- 1:26:27beliefs. These are mine.
- 1:26:28Yeah, like we don't have to agree on them.
- 1:26:30That's right. I'm exactly the same, but
- 1:26:32sometimes. There are certain beliefs that
- 1:26:34people have that like. I feel like as a society we can
- 1:26:38all kind of agree or wrong, like for example racism, like you
- 1:26:41know, it's it just doesn't make sense.
- 1:26:42There's no room for it. But there's there's always going
- 1:26:45to be those people that that just don't get it and you, I
- 1:26:48think. You do kind of have to take a
- 1:26:50stand on those things. I mean, this is just my personal
- 1:26:53opinion. No, I agree.
- 1:26:54I agree you know, but one thing I think should be stressed is.
- 1:26:58In this new age that we live in of much more mental health
- 1:27:03awareness, Get in there. Don't put yourself in the firing
- 1:27:11line. Not saying that you shouldn't at
- 1:27:14all. Like at all.
- 1:27:15Like if you I know there are things you should stand for, but
- 1:27:19do not let your own mental health go to shit because you
- 1:27:23are constantly putting yourself in the firing line of fighting
- 1:27:26someone else's cause. You matter.
- 1:27:27You're important. You need to look after yourself
- 1:27:30or you're no use help fighting any cause whatsoever.
- 1:27:34I'm I'm the same at that time. I I kind.
- 1:27:36Of quietly support things. You know, like I that'll even
- 1:27:42mean. Donations or or sharing things
- 1:27:45or, you know, like you won't really hear me come out and make
- 1:27:49like big compassion speeches. And unless I really like the
- 1:27:51last time I did, I think might have been a stream while I was
- 1:27:57talking. About trans rights.
- 1:27:59Because someone in the comments was just pissing me off and I
- 1:28:01was like, look, listen, I support this, get over it like
- 1:28:04this is, this is how it is. But there was another time.
- 1:28:09During, you know, everything that went down in 2020, I was
- 1:28:14doing a different show back then.
- 1:28:16Yeah, very short lived show and there was an episode where we
- 1:28:19spoke about this and we all kind of impassioned that spoke about
- 1:28:23it there from the heart and it was as difficult conversation.
- 1:28:30But I was like, this is the right thing to do, you know?
- 1:28:33I feel like not talking about it would almost.
- 1:28:36Be like. Bizarre and I'm like I don't
- 1:28:39know it's it's I always just kind of like do what I can and
- 1:28:44and just let let the universe. Decide what's wrong.
- 1:28:49You know I don't. Know I completely get what you
- 1:28:52mean, and I implore the people that that can really go out
- 1:28:55there and passionately fight for this stuff.
- 1:28:59But like I said, man, like you. Can't fight for anything if
- 1:29:06you're not right yourself, you. Can't give a 100 if you're only
- 1:29:08given 95, do you know what I mean?
- 1:29:11So you've got to look out for yourself.
- 1:29:13So if I understand, there's a lot of pressure on from both
- 1:29:17sides, on on everything in life at the moment to to state your
- 1:29:22case. Or if you're not with me, you're
- 1:29:24against me or that kind of thing.
- 1:29:26Don't worry too much about what strangers on the Internet have
- 1:29:30to say when they're arguing with each other.
- 1:29:31Make sure you put yourself first.
- 1:29:33Make sure you are your number one priority.
- 1:29:35And if you've got the strength to fight and go out and fight,
- 1:29:38but not physically, Guys don't get into any violent spats.
- 1:29:41We don't want that. Don't fight for what you believe
- 1:29:43in, but if you don't have the mental capacity to do that, if
- 1:29:46it's going to cause you harm, take a step back.
- 1:29:49Take a more reserved approach. You see, it happens to a lot of
- 1:29:52people now. A lot of people impassionately
- 1:29:54fight for this stuff online and eventually they just get to a
- 1:29:56state where they just they're just angry all the.
- 1:30:01Because all they're doing every day is fighting and arguing and
- 1:30:05it just, it's no good for the soul.
- 1:30:06Man. You need to again what I keep
- 1:30:08what I said at the beginning. It's about what brings us
- 1:30:12together and it's not about what separates us.
- 1:30:15Beautiful, beautiful sentiment to end it on, I think.
- 1:30:19Final question is always any upcoming projects or final
- 1:30:22thoughts you want to? Well, you know, I will always
- 1:30:26say I have content in the works. Will ever come out?
- 1:30:29Who knows? I am planning on trying to get
- 1:30:31something sorted. There is of course Sonic
- 1:30:35Superstars coming this year. I'm going to be reviewing that
- 1:30:39on the channel. I really need to get around to
- 1:30:42reviewing Sonic Prime seasons 1:00 and 2:00.
- 1:30:44So I am going to try and cook that up soon.
- 1:30:47If you're going to game shows towards the end of this year, if
- 1:30:51you're going to e.g. X, MCM, Comic Con or Paris Games
- 1:30:55Week, I will definitely be at e.g.
- 1:30:57X and Paris Games Week. I might be at Comic Con.
- 1:30:59We're going to try and get in through Sega, so please come and
- 1:31:02say hello and the Sega boots if you're around.
- 1:31:04I genuinely love meeting people from the Internet and just so
- 1:31:08cause that's how dodgy. I just generally love meeting
- 1:31:10you by people that interact with the content and stuff like that
- 1:31:13and trying some of that stuff. So come say hey and yeah, and
- 1:31:18nothing else to really. Are you talking about yet?
- 1:31:23How do you feel? Good man.
- 1:31:27Good. Good.
- 1:31:28I'm glad, man. Thank you so much for coming
- 1:31:30back on the show, man. Always a pleasure to having me,
- 1:31:33honestly. I love coming on the show.
- 1:31:35It's brilliant. It doesn't really feel like a
- 1:31:38show at one point, do you know what I mean?
- 1:31:39It just feels like we're having a conversation and just like
- 1:31:42having a good old catch up. So I love it.
- 1:31:44That's that's that's kind of like I've said this before, but
- 1:31:47that's. That's, that's the aim.
- 1:31:48That's the goal mostly. And obviously every time it's
- 1:31:50going to be different. Obviously we know each other in
- 1:31:52real life and you know, so there's that element.
- 1:31:56But it's like, yeah, I don't know there's, I think the
- 1:32:01interesting thing with this show is it's got a lot of faces, if
- 1:32:05that makes sense. So, so it's it's about human
- 1:32:08interest stories? It's about interviews,
- 1:32:11discussions. It's about pretty heavy topics,
- 1:32:14fun topics. But then it's also like catching
- 1:32:17up with people, like checking in with people you know.
- 1:32:21There's there's a lot of elements to it.
- 1:32:23And you know, sometimes I'd go along the deep, deep dives on
- 1:32:26certain topics for people and stuff.
- 1:32:28And I don't know, I I kind of just take every.
- 1:32:31Day as it comes with this. Show and I let it kind of
- 1:32:34breathe it, so Nah. But I think at first and
- 1:32:36foremost it will always be discussions, conversations.
- 1:32:40Like you said, it's a time capsule.
- 1:32:42Yeah, really is one of the. Things I love most about like
- 1:32:45I'll a year from now I'll probably see the the old clips
- 1:32:50come off from this on the on the feeds and I'll be like yo yeah
- 1:32:53should we get together should do another one And you know what's
- 1:32:56mad? I so I always share.
- 1:32:59Old episodes like the, you know, on my Instagram, like on this
- 1:33:03day, like it's to promote, obviously, but also it's nice
- 1:33:06because I'm sitting there and I'm like.
- 1:33:08I forgot this conversation even happened.
- 1:33:10Yeah, you know, because one thing, just Full disclosure, I
- 1:33:12never go back and listen. I just don't.
- 1:33:15So I there's, yeah, there's conversations I've completely
- 1:33:17forgotten about. People I've forgotten about.
- 1:33:19I know how that sounds. Not like I've forgotten them.
- 1:33:21Like you are 200 episodes, you are allowed to not remember
- 1:33:25every conversation. I'll look back and I'll and I'll
- 1:33:28remind myself. Oh yeah, this person.
- 1:33:30And we had this conversation and they did this, you know, and
- 1:33:33it's it's, it's just. It's pretty special.
- 1:33:36I feel very grateful to get to do this.
- 1:33:38No mate. Honestly the what you've been
- 1:33:40doing with it is amazing. Thank you.
- 1:33:42I genuinely love seeing the clips pop up.
- 1:33:46And yeah, it's just, I'm very proud of you man.
- 1:33:49It's great to see you doing this and pursuing your dreams.
- 1:33:53And honestly it's so lovely to see and even looking at where
- 1:33:57your content was to where it is now as well and watching just
- 1:34:02how it's upscaled each year just goes up in quality, like
- 1:34:06production quality, everything. It's obviously it's it's
- 1:34:09fantastic to watch and I really do love following your journey
- 1:34:12and it's why you know as long as you'll have me, I'll always come
- 1:34:14back on. You're always welcome.
- 1:34:16You always I think. I think we should make.
- 1:34:18A thing as well that you always at least return once, once a
- 1:34:21year, like I agree have to every time.
- 1:34:25Yeah, awesome. Well, thank you so much for your
- 1:34:27time as always, man. And until the next time, Take
