- 0:01Speaker 1: In this corner, standing at 6'5, weight class unknown, but
- 0:04Speaker 1: hailing from the city of sin, put your hands together
- 0:07Speaker 1: for Jamison Welch. And in this corner, standing at 5'10,
- 0:11Speaker 1: weighing in at pounds, and coming to us from his
- 0:14Speaker 1: super secret bunker with no AC in Tucson, Arizona, put
- 0:18Speaker 1: your hands together for Luis Montemayor.
- 0:25Speaker 5: All right.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Thank you very much. And welcome back to another episode
- 0:28Speaker 2: of Mixed Company Podcast. Of course, I'm going to have
- 0:31Speaker 2: to shout out to Jameson, as always, enjoyed by Luis. Luis,
- 0:34Speaker 2: what's going on, man?
- 0:36Speaker 3: Hey, Jameson. I got some actually good news to start
- 0:39Speaker 3: this episode off with. If y'all listened last episode, neither
- 0:43Speaker 3: of us are very happy about this rumor that Shakur
- 0:46Speaker 3: Stevenson was fighting Manny Pacquiao.
- 0:48Speaker 4: That was terrible.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Luckily, thank goodness, talks fell through for that. We can
- 0:53Speaker 3: just kind of pretend that never even happened and move on.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Let us never speak of this again. But it's being
- 1:02Speaker 3: said that, you know, the rumor is that he, Shakur Stevenson,
- 1:04Speaker 3: and Devin Haney are in, quote, advanced discussions for a fight.
- 1:08Speaker 3: You know, they've gone back and forth a couple of
- 1:10Speaker 3: times here. You had said that anyone that Shakur agrees
- 1:15Speaker 3: to fight is going to be a disappointment. I think
- 1:17Speaker 3: this might be one that actually would not be for me.
- 1:19Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:20Speaker 4: What do you think about this potential matchup and what
- 1:21Speaker 4: it means for these guys?
- 1:22Speaker 5: Well, see, I don't believe anything until it's on the
- 1:24Speaker 5: dotted line.
- 1:24Speaker 2: I don't. It's been too much back and forth. Too
- 1:28Speaker 2: much games being played on social media. I'm tired of it.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Make the fight or don't. We got something else to
- 1:33Speaker 2: figure out, man. I'm getting, I'm over it. Like, here's
- 1:36Speaker 2: the thing. As good as Shakur is and as, you know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: as talented as Haney is, this ain't all worth all this. Like,
- 1:44Speaker 2: they haven't accomplished enough to be carrying on like this.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Either do it or don't, but get on with it
- 1:49Speaker 2: because this is annoying. Like, let's make fights. Like, this
- 1:52Speaker 2: whole bickering on social media, back and forth, you know, payday,
- 1:57Speaker 2: who ducked who. I don't give a flying fuck. Let's
- 1:59Speaker 2: get this site fine. Either sign it or move on
- 2:02Speaker 2: because it's getting old. We've known this for a whole
- 2:04Speaker 2: year now.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Agreed.
- 2:06Speaker 3: And it's important to note that Haney hasn't fought at
- 2:08Speaker 3: all since November 25th when he beat Brian Norman Jr.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Kind of the same thing as what happened with Ryan Garcia.
- 2:15Speaker 3: We thought Haney was kind of on the way out,
- 2:17Speaker 3: losing his step. And he came back, kicked ass, looked
- 2:21Speaker 3: really aggressive, looked great in the ring.
- 2:23Speaker 4: And we were both.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Kind of excited, like, all right, Haney, let's show us
- 2:26Speaker 3: what you got. Haney 2.0. Let's see how focused and
- 2:32Speaker 3: how much your game is going to advance going forward.
- 2:34Speaker 5: And nothing. Crickets.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Same thing Shakur hasn't fought since he defeated Teofimo in January.
- 2:40Speaker 3: There's no reason why a fight shouldn't have been announced
- 2:42Speaker 3: before the end of this year for both of them.
- 2:46Speaker 4: So, yeah, I agree with you. I think it's kind
- 2:50Speaker 4: of very annoying to.
- 2:52Speaker 3: And these guys are too good to just leave these
- 2:54Speaker 3: skills out on the table. And I, it sucks that like,
- 2:58Speaker 3: we want to talk about the show. We can speculate
- 3:00Speaker 3: on the show. That's perfectly fine. But we want to
- 3:02Speaker 3: talk about actual news, actual fights that are announced. Not like,
- 3:05Speaker 3: what if, what if, what if, you know what I'm saying?
- 3:08Speaker 4: I agree.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah. I, here's the thing. I just hope it gets done.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And if it falls through, yeah, I can't think of
- 3:18Speaker 3: somebody that, you know, Shakur would fight that would get
- 3:20Speaker 3: me excited.
- 3:22Speaker 4: To see him back in the ring. I mean, God,
- 3:24Speaker 4: there's like, he's mentioned some people.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Like, let's see, I'm blanking on the names that he
- 3:30Speaker 3: wanted to fight.
- 3:31Speaker 4: But yeah, I think.
- 3:33Speaker 3: That kind of says it all that I'm blanking on
- 3:35Speaker 3: the potential names.
- 3:37Speaker 2: And we're not here for that, man. I know he's
- 3:38Speaker 2: not a contract and Zufa people and all that. I
- 3:40Speaker 2: get all that. But if they're not going to make
- 3:42Speaker 2: the right fights for you, then we're wasting our time here.
- 3:45Speaker 2: At the end of the day, we're trying to see fights.
- 3:46Speaker 2: We're not trying to see things on social media, see
- 3:49Speaker 2: the back and forth. All that's getting old and corny. Let's,
- 3:52Speaker 2: you know, let's make these fights and let's keep it
- 3:55Speaker 2: moving because in a perfect world, Shakur and Haney fight
- 3:58Speaker 2: later this year, early next year. Tank fights the winner
- 4:02Speaker 2: of that fight.
- 4:03Speaker 5: In a perfect world, we get all what we want
- 4:05Speaker 5: and keep it moving.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to happen because it doesn't
- 4:07Speaker 2: work out that way in baseball, but that's just how
- 4:10Speaker 2: it goes.
- 4:11Speaker 5: Yeah. Sorry.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I just can't imagine boxing fans that get, like,
- 4:17Speaker 3: you know, really sucked into the back and forth on
- 4:20Speaker 3: social media and think it's cool and, like, badass.
- 4:22Speaker 4: I'm sure there are people out there that are like, oh, Shakur,
- 4:25Speaker 4: you got him. You got Haney's ass on Twitter. Like,
- 4:28Speaker 4: you're right.
- 4:28Speaker 3: Nobody gives a fuck, man.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Get in the ring.
- 4:31Speaker 2: And it's getting old. Like, it's been going on for
- 4:33Speaker 2: over a year now. So it's not like, oh, this
- 4:36Speaker 2: is something that randomly happened. No, it keeps on happening.
- 4:38Speaker 5: It's very old. It's very corny. And, like, I guess
- 4:41Speaker 5: Shakur's a great boxer. He has great talent. But it's like, bro,
- 4:44Speaker 5: we don't care anymore. Either fight or do something else.
- 4:47Speaker 5: We don't care. This is ridiculous.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm not one to poo-poo the use of social
- 4:52Speaker 3: media by boxers because they need that to get their
- 4:54Speaker 3: name out there. This is the era that we live in.
- 4:56Speaker 3: But there's a difference between, I don't know, maybe putting
- 4:59Speaker 3: out your workouts or talking about the sport or other
- 5:02Speaker 3: things or maybe your opinions on other fights on social
- 5:04Speaker 3: media and.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Having your name and face out there. That's perfectly fine.
- 5:08Speaker 3: But the sniping with a potential opponent You know, I'd
- 5:10Speaker 3: rather hear Shakur Stevens and talk shit about like a
- 5:12Speaker 3: heavyweight that he'll never fight. You know what I mean?
- 5:17Speaker 2: It's not that you could do whatever you want on
- 5:19Speaker 2: social media, but when you are talking all, when you
- 5:21Speaker 2: barking all this big bark and you not control your
- 5:25Speaker 2: situation or it seems you're not in control of your situation,
- 5:28Speaker 2: we're not trying to hear nothing else.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Like it's one thing. You just talk this type of fight.
- 5:32Speaker 5: That's cool.
- 5:33Speaker 2: But you keep talking, keep talking. And then we hear
- 5:35Speaker 2: different reports of who's actually running things. Who's actually controlling shit.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Whatnot, whatnot.
- 5:40Speaker 2: It's like, well, nah, if Zufa's the controller of your shit,
- 5:42Speaker 2: then get with them and make the fight. Like, it's
- 5:45Speaker 2: to the point where it's like, bro, we don't care.
- 5:47Speaker 2: If you don't fight someone that people don't really want
- 5:49Speaker 2: to watch, people are over it.
- 5:51Speaker 5: That's the thing.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Boxing's very fickle to where when you're hot, you gotta
- 5:55Speaker 2: take advantage of that. No one's here for a Shakur
- 5:57Speaker 2: Tuna fight.
- 5:58Speaker 5: Like, no one.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Like, as great as he talks about he is, and
- 6:02Speaker 2: as great as I believe he is, we're not here
- 6:05Speaker 2: for any random... four round exhibition. He gets somebody out
- 6:09Speaker 2: of here. We got to wait another nine months for,
- 6:11Speaker 2: we're not here for that. Like it's time to start fighting.
- 6:14Speaker 2: He don't have, he doesn't have a fight where you're like, damn,
- 6:16Speaker 2: I remember that one. Oh, he was really challenged that fight.
- 6:20Speaker 5: Or you know what? He really mopped the floor with
- 6:22Speaker 5: that other B plus a month.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Like where, where are the fights where you could talk
- 6:27Speaker 2: about his career where it's like, damn, that was a
- 6:29Speaker 2: good ass fight.
- 6:30Speaker 5: He fought such and such. And that went down to
- 6:33Speaker 5: the wire.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, the closest we got is when he
- 6:38Speaker 3: fought William Cepeda, I believe, last year. They gave him
- 6:41Speaker 3: an actual challenge, and that was great.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Everybody was stoked.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Again, you're talking to a guy who's been a Shakur
- 6:46Speaker 3: fanboy for a while, even though everybody was talking shit
- 6:49Speaker 3: about him, saying, oh, he's a runner, he's not actually
- 6:52Speaker 3: a great boxer, he's not a knockout guy, he doesn't
- 6:54Speaker 3: have power, blah, blah, blah. My thing was always the
- 6:56Speaker 3: kid is talented and deserves respect, and I stand by that.
- 7:00Speaker 3: But you're not giving me anything here, Shakur, to work
- 7:02Speaker 3: with because we're not seeing you in the ring all year.
- 7:05Speaker 4: All we're seeing is you just talking shit. And I
- 7:07Speaker 4: get it. We're both 40-year-old men. We're grampies. We're old heads.
- 7:11Speaker 4: We didn't grow up on social media. And a lot
- 7:13Speaker 4: of these kids didn't.
- 7:13Speaker 5: Time out, time out, time out. I ain't no damn grampie.
- 7:17Speaker 5: I'm not that.
- 7:18Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, we invented social media.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So that's the first thing. We just want to see
- 7:24Speaker 2: a damn fight.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Sure.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 7:26Speaker 5: That's all.
- 7:27Speaker 2: We just want to see a fight. Forget all the extras.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I don't care about the Instagrams and Twitter shit. Sign
- 7:34Speaker 2: up for the fight or retire. I don't care about
- 7:37Speaker 2: anything else. It's getting to the point where we're losing interest.
- 7:40Speaker 2: That's where, and you never want that as your product
- 7:43Speaker 2: for any company. You don't want to lose interest in
- 7:45Speaker 2: the situation. Agree.
- 7:47Speaker 3: And potentially there's a loss of interest for Shakur and Haney,
- 7:51Speaker 3: but there was never much interest in Zufa in the
- 7:53Speaker 3: first place for many of us. So, you know, you're
- 7:55Speaker 3: not really making a case for yourself.
- 7:58Speaker 5: You're absolutely correct. But also too, Shakur is too young
- 8:01Speaker 5: in his career to just be fighting once a year
- 8:04Speaker 5: and be keep on playing like this. Like he should
- 8:06Speaker 5: be fighting multiple times a year for how good he is,
- 8:10Speaker 5: for how good he thinks he is. And he says
- 8:12Speaker 5: he is him only fighting once a year. It's criminal.
- 8:14Speaker 2: And he's not making enough money fighting once a year.
- 8:17Speaker 2: So it's not like he's making 50 million a fight.
- 8:19Speaker 2: That's not happening. So it's like, Hey man, what's the
- 8:23Speaker 2: holdup here? Because something, something's not right for everything we've seen.
- 8:27Speaker 2: something's off a fighter in his 20s doesn't fight once
- 8:31Speaker 2: a year like he's hurt or some weird contract situation
- 8:33Speaker 2: that we don't know about because something nothing else makes.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Sense yeah and he's not just in his 20s he's
- 8:38Speaker 3: 29 and well the boxing is a young man's game
- 8:40Speaker 3: and you're basically a senior citizen in boxing over 30
- 8:43Speaker 3: so he's honestly wasting valuable time of time of his
- 8:47Speaker 3: prime um doing this and just kind of dilly-dallying so Yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 3: it's been frustrating, but we'll just kind of keep an
- 8:55Speaker 3: eye on this and keep our pulse on the goings
- 8:58Speaker 3: on here. But let's move on to somebody that actually
- 9:01Speaker 3: kind of has walk the walk when it comes to
- 9:04Speaker 3: getting in the ring and kicking ass and being consistent.
- 9:07Speaker 4: David Benavidez, our.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Guy, pride of Arizona boxing. So he actually just said
- 9:14Speaker 3: he's a cruiserweight now, 175 to 200 is his weight range.
- 9:17Speaker 3: He said he doesn't want to go back down to
- 9:19Speaker 3: light heavyweight.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:21Speaker 3: We've speculated a lot about what his plans might be,
- 9:24Speaker 3: him not getting his shot to make him an A-list star,
- 9:27Speaker 3: this and that.
- 9:28Speaker 4: We're like, what if he fights B-Ball, this and that.
- 9:31Speaker 3: It's a bummer that if he stays at Cruiserweight, a
- 9:33Speaker 3: B-Ball fight will likely not happen. But also, for me,
- 9:35Speaker 3: it's kind of nice to know what his plans are,
- 9:38Speaker 3: for sure, so we can talk about... He said he
- 9:40Speaker 3: wants to stay here for a while. He wants to
- 9:41Speaker 3: reign at Cruiserweight. We can talk about what that'll look like,
- 9:44Speaker 3: and then what his next steps are going forward. Kind
- 9:48Speaker 3: of disappointed, like I said, but I could understand. He
- 9:51Speaker 3: said he feels comfortable at this weight. He's doing very
- 9:54Speaker 3: well for himself. You know, we've seen him absolutely dominate
- 9:57Speaker 3: earlier this year. He wants to come back in December and,
- 10:00Speaker 3: become undisputed at cruiserweight. First things first, how do we
- 10:05Speaker 3: feel about the B-Ball fight not happening? I'm very disappointed
- 10:08Speaker 3: because that was one of my most anticipated fights.
- 10:10Speaker 4: What about you?
- 10:12Speaker 5: Not saying.
- 10:13Speaker 2: You got a guy like David Benavidez who You can
- 10:16Speaker 2: make an argument that he's the best fighter box breathing
- 10:19Speaker 2: right now. You can make an argument that he's, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 2: you can, you can make that argument that whether it's
- 10:23Speaker 2: pound for pound or whatever, he's the.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Best, but him not being able to fight someone to
- 10:28Speaker 5: his caliber kind of sucks. You know, that's the, or
- 10:31Speaker 5: somebody that can threaten him kind of sucks.
- 10:32Speaker 2: And now you get into the weird part where he
- 10:35Speaker 2: might have a few fights where no one's really threatening him.
- 10:37Speaker 2: When that happens, it's a very dangerous zone because how
- 10:40Speaker 2: do you gauge a fighter if he's not getting challenged?
- 10:43Speaker 2: That's the thing. It's kind of the Roy Jones thing
- 10:45Speaker 2: back in the day, right? He was in a weird
- 10:47Speaker 2: division where he didn't have a whole lot of challengers.
- 10:49Speaker 2: He had to move up and then move down. It's
- 10:51Speaker 2: going to be interesting to see what happens. At the
- 10:53Speaker 2: same time, his body, he almost has a heavyweight body,
- 10:56Speaker 2: but at the same time, he doesn't have a 225
- 10:59Speaker 2: body frame. So it's a very unique situation for him.
- 11:03Speaker 2: He's in a very unique spot. He's going to mount
- 11:06Speaker 2: the floor at 175, and he's going to take care
- 11:08Speaker 2: of business there. But moving up doesn't quite make sense either.
- 11:12Speaker 2: So he's just in a weird spot.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think the difference between him and Roy
- 11:19Speaker 3: Jones is that, like you said, he didn't have competition
- 11:21Speaker 3: and had to move up. Bro, for Benavidez, we were
- 11:24Speaker 3: talking about how great a b-ball matchup would be for
- 11:26Speaker 3: about a year now or something like that. So there
- 11:29Speaker 3: wasn't a potential there. I'm not in the guy's head.
- 11:31Speaker 3: I don't know how he feels. And maybe with age,
- 11:35Speaker 3: people generally move up. That's essentially what happens. So there
- 11:40Speaker 3: is always a potential that he could make a name
- 11:42Speaker 3: for himself at cruiserweight and move up to heavyweight. Usyk
- 11:48Speaker 3: did it before Usyk was the best heavyweight of the
- 11:52Speaker 3: current era. He did great at cruiserweight. He really kind
- 11:55Speaker 3: of made a.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Name for himself. So it is a possibility.
- 11:59Speaker 3: And I never want to poo-poo David Benavidez's choices because,
- 12:02Speaker 3: like I said, he's one of the best out there
- 12:04Speaker 3: right now. uh, looks great in the ring, dominates, knocks
- 12:07Speaker 3: people out, kicks ass. And we want to see him
- 12:11Speaker 3: in the ring more often. It's just kind of, yeah, it,
- 12:13Speaker 3: it sucks that, uh, you know, we're, it's more, I'm
- 12:17Speaker 3: more sort of poo-pooing the cruiserweight, uh, weight class, no
- 12:20Speaker 3: disrespect to any of the fighters and champs there. It's
- 12:22Speaker 3: just no names that are really like, get you really
- 12:25Speaker 3: hyped up or, you know, kind of, or even household names.
- 12:28Speaker 2: My God.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Um, like, Jao Pataya has a lot of, uh, hype
- 12:32Speaker 3: right now. And, you know, that's likely the fight that
- 12:34Speaker 3: Benavidez will take in Cinco de Mayo.
- 12:35Speaker 4: But yeah, ask a regular person, you know, off the
- 12:39Speaker 4: street who Jao Pataya is. He just doesn't have that
- 12:41Speaker 4: name recognition.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Not at all.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 4: So, um, I don't know.
- 12:45Speaker 3: I'm, I, at the end of the day, I want
- 12:47Speaker 3: to see my guy succeed. I want to see him
- 12:49Speaker 3: be a star and I want to see him back
- 12:50Speaker 3: in the ring twice a year, uh, at least. Uh,
- 12:54Speaker 3: but so I'm, I'm glad that he kind of, we
- 12:56Speaker 3: kind of know what to talk about going forward. Uh,
- 13:00Speaker 3: One thing I will say that's very annoying, I was
- 13:01Speaker 3: reading these articles about his interview. There's all these articles
- 13:05Speaker 3: that are like, well, if David Benavidez stays at Cruiserweight, well,
- 13:09Speaker 3: that just means the Canelo fight is long gone. Bro,
- 13:12Speaker 3: nobody thought that fight was happening for years now.
- 13:16Speaker 2: That fight died on Cinco de Mayo weekend of 22.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Once Canelo lost that.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Fight that night, he was never fighting.
- 13:24Speaker 5: He was never fighting Benavidez. Never. He was never fighting Benavidez.
- 13:28Speaker 5: He was never. It wasn't happening. So that's a pipe dream.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Now, I will say, if that fight ever did happen,
- 13:36Speaker 2: you could put that shit in the middle of wherever
- 13:39Speaker 2: city you want to because it's going to do 150,000
- 13:40Speaker 2: people a lot if it ever did happen.
- 13:44Speaker 5: But it's not. No. Nope. Nope.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't even know, like, I don't know, man,
- 13:50Speaker 3: just why that's even being brought up in, like, an
- 13:53Speaker 3: article written this week by anybody.
- 13:54Speaker 5: It's like, you want to talk?
- 13:56Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 13:58Speaker 5: I'll tell you why. One is to get clicks, because
- 14:00Speaker 5: right now it's kind of a slower time.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Obviously, Canelo is fighting soon, but it's a relatively slow
- 14:06Speaker 2: time right now. So you put something out like that.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Benavidez is supposed to be fighting later in the year.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Canelo's fighting in the month. You put something out there because, hey,
- 14:15Speaker 2: there's not a whole lot of fights to make. Especially
- 14:18Speaker 2: big mega fights, there's not a whole lot of them
- 14:19Speaker 2: to make. So you start putting pieces together.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Wait a minute.
- 14:22Speaker 2: I can throw this against the wall and see if
- 14:24Speaker 2: it sticks.
- 14:25Speaker 5: It ain't going to stick.
- 14:26Speaker 2: But I can understand why somebody would write that and
- 14:29Speaker 2: put it out there.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Don't agree with it, but I can see the reason why.
- 14:32Speaker 4: That's fair. That's fair.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I just– David Benavidez is the boogeyman. He should
- 14:37Speaker 3: continue to be the boogeyman. I just find it hard
- 14:39Speaker 3: for him to be that guy in a weight class.
- 14:41Speaker 4: That nobody cares about.
- 14:42Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Right.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Yeah, if Benavidez plans to move up the heavyweight– we
- 14:48Speaker 3: said this before. He's got to stick to like– low
- 14:53Speaker 3: 200s he can't be fighting a 230 250 pound guy
- 14:58Speaker 3: uh you know but also at the same time he
- 15:00Speaker 3: said that he doesn't want to do it for like
- 15:01Speaker 3: another few years like he said he's not going to
- 15:03Speaker 3: be ready um so so i understand um i don't
- 15:07Speaker 3: know i i think that uh the biggest money makers
- 15:11Speaker 3: for him were going to be the bbl fight uh
- 15:13Speaker 3: he also mentioned potentially better bf but that guy we
- 15:17Speaker 3: haven't heard a peep from him we haven't really heard
- 15:18Speaker 3: about a potential trilogy if against b-ball i would love
- 15:21Speaker 3: to see it don't get me wrong um yeah but
- 15:25Speaker 3: i don't know i mean i i imagine better be
- 15:27Speaker 3: of is like that he's already over 40 so he's
- 15:30Speaker 3: been gonna be thinking about retirement soon if he does
- 15:32Speaker 3: come back against people i can't see him taking another
- 15:35Speaker 3: fight after that win or lose uh personally but um
- 15:39Speaker 3: so that one i wasn't really i wasn't really kind
- 15:41Speaker 3: of banking on a b-ball better be of at all
- 15:43Speaker 3: anyway I'm sorry, it's Benavidez versus Better B.
- 15:47Speaker 4: There's too many B.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Names in this news article here.
- 15:50Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't know.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Another thing too is that there is speculation about whether
- 15:57Speaker 3: Benavidez will be back in December. Of course, he's eyeing
- 16:00Speaker 3: Cinco de Mayo. That would be the best thing for him.
- 16:02Speaker 3: That's the moneymaker. But I mean, could we see him
- 16:05Speaker 3: in December and then back in May? That would be
- 16:07Speaker 3: really cool.
- 16:08Speaker 5: It'd be ideal.
- 16:09Speaker 2: It would be ideal for sure. I mean, the May date,
- 16:12Speaker 2: it's always the May date. It's always the moneymaker. Dates,
- 16:14Speaker 2: that'd be cool. But here's the thing, man. Like, we'll
- 16:19Speaker 2: go back to Benavidez real.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Quick, moving up.
- 16:22Speaker 2: I would be cautious of moving up because a lot
- 16:24Speaker 2: of times guys move up, but their power doesn't. And
- 16:27Speaker 2: that goes to every weight class, not just going from
- 16:29Speaker 2: cruiser to heavy or light heavy, whatever it is. You know,
- 16:32Speaker 2: from 130 to 140, we've seen guys be very powerful
- 16:35Speaker 2: at 130. They go up to 140, and they can't
- 16:37Speaker 2: ever fly. So those are things I'd be cautious of
- 16:41Speaker 2: if I was him because it feels like his power
- 16:44Speaker 2: is his strength at 175. I don't know what happens
- 16:48Speaker 2: if you go up 25 or 35 more pounds.
- 16:51Speaker 5: What happens power-wise?
- 16:53Speaker 2: And also, those power punches aren't going to be as
- 16:55Speaker 2: impactful in that division as they are in the current
- 16:58Speaker 2: division you're in. So that's where I'd be very cautious
- 17:01Speaker 2: of him if it comes to moving up.
- 17:03Speaker 5: I don't know if that's necessarily the smartest idea. That's
- 17:05Speaker 5: the first thing.
- 17:07Speaker 2: When it comes to the fights, normally guys fight at
- 17:10Speaker 2: the end of the year and the middle of the year.
- 17:11Speaker 2: So fighting twice a year, which was November and December
- 17:14Speaker 2: and back in May again, that's pretty much the norm.
- 17:17Speaker 2: That makes a lot of sense. So if that can
- 17:19Speaker 2: be pulled off, I don't see why not. Sure.
- 17:23Speaker 3: And, you know, just to add on to what you're
- 17:25Speaker 3: talking about going up is that, you know, Benavidez is
- 17:27Speaker 3: not just power, but speed is his creme de la creme.
- 17:31Speaker 3: And the bigger you are, the slower you are. That's
- 17:32Speaker 3: just how physics works. That's how bodies work. But also,
- 17:35Speaker 3: you know, he's a very lean guy. You know, he
- 17:37Speaker 3: has a very weird, I don't want to say weird,
- 17:39Speaker 3: just like interesting body type for somebody that fights at 200.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Because he's not big, bulky.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Everybody's body is different, and they react differently to strength
- 17:50Speaker 3: and conditioning. So maybe if he does focus on bulking up,
- 17:54Speaker 3: putting on muscle, does lose some speed, but those power
- 17:57Speaker 3: punches are still killer, I could see it. But at
- 18:01Speaker 3: this point, we are just speculating. But yeah, I mean,
- 18:05Speaker 3: him fighting in May and then fighting in December, what
- 18:08Speaker 3: is it, like seven months, and then five months if
- 18:10Speaker 3: he comes back in Cinco de Mayo.
- 18:12Speaker 4: That is.
- 18:14Speaker 3: For this era, that sounds like not enough time in
- 18:17Speaker 3: between matches. But that just kind of says more about
- 18:20Speaker 3: how often guys are not fighting these days.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Because it kind of sucks that– and nothing against Benavidez himself.
- 18:26Speaker 3: It sucks that we're talking about May, December, and May
- 18:30Speaker 3: again as like something amazing that would happen for the
- 18:34Speaker 3: boxing world and seeing this guy back that soon. It's
- 18:37Speaker 3: just kind of a bummer.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Okay. Okay, moving on to another topic here.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah, last episode I forgot to mention that Keyshawn Davis
- 18:46Speaker 3: versus Richardson Hitchens was agreed upon, and we'll be talking
- 18:50Speaker 3: more about it as it gets closer. One thing that
- 18:53Speaker 3: I did want to talk about that's very interesting to
- 18:54Speaker 3: me is that Keyshawn did not want to fight Devin
- 18:58Speaker 3: Haney because supposedly he was not getting the payday that
- 19:00Speaker 3: he wanted.
- 19:00Speaker 4: I think he wanted five M's versus three or something
- 19:03Speaker 4: like that.
- 19:04Speaker 3: How much is he really getting paid to fight a
- 19:06Speaker 3: Richardson Hitchens who is very talented but not a big name?
- 19:08Speaker 5: Come on. That's the thing.
- 19:10Speaker 2: It's weird because I think he was supposed to get
- 19:13Speaker 2: three for the Haney fight and then it got down
- 19:15Speaker 2: to 2.2 because they had like a judge, arbitrator or whatever.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And then he was like, I'm out. And it's like, bro,
- 19:21Speaker 2: like you gave it 3 million. So what's really going on?
- 19:23Speaker 2: So I don't know if he's going to get that
- 19:26Speaker 2: three in this fight.
- 19:26Speaker 5: I don't see it.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Like, I don't, I don't see how he could. Like personally,
- 19:30Speaker 2: I don't, unless he got guaranteed. If Zufa guaranteed it,
- 19:33Speaker 2: then that's a whole different thing. Cause that's, you know,
- 19:35Speaker 2: but I don't know.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and I could see that because Zufa,
- 19:40Speaker 3: you know, they got a lot of money to spare
- 19:42Speaker 3: right now, especially with funding from the Saudis.
- 19:44Speaker 4: So it's possible.
- 19:46Speaker 3: But in terms of like definitely if they're paying that much,
- 19:50Speaker 3: I can't imagine they're getting a lot of that back.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Because, again, no disrespect to Hitchens. He's a great fighter.
- 19:56Speaker 4: But he's still on his way up.
- 19:57Speaker 3: And Keyshawn should be fighting the best of the best
- 19:59Speaker 3: because he also carries himself like he's.
- 20:02Speaker 4: The absolute shit. You know what I mean?
- 20:05Speaker 3: So why walk away from a Heaney fight?
- 20:09Speaker 4: It should have been backwards.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Hitchens and Keyshawn should have used each other as a
- 20:14Speaker 3: stepping stone to something like that.
- 20:15Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 20:16Speaker 2: That fight was basically done, and then he pulled that stuff.
- 20:22Speaker 5: And it's like, man, what are we doing?
- 20:24Speaker 2: Because he's not a guy that can— I don't know where
- 20:27Speaker 2: he gets over $ 3 million from.
- 20:29Speaker 5: I don't see it. Unless he's part of a bigger
- 20:31Speaker 5: card to where they have that money for that, but
- 20:33Speaker 5: I don't see it. I truly don't.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Yeah, but Keyshawn is enough of a name that he
- 20:38Speaker 3: is a main event. So is he going to be
- 20:39Speaker 3: the second guy on the poster? I'd be surprised. Who
- 20:42Speaker 3: would they put on there? I could potentially see Shakur
- 20:48Speaker 3: versus Manny as the big name, as the main event.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Not that I would like it, and I think it's stupid,
- 20:54Speaker 3: but in terms of how you just want to put
- 20:56Speaker 3: recognizable names.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Together, I could see that. But I don't know.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I mean, it could be a Shakur-Keyshawn co-headline, and that
- 21:03Speaker 3: could be... you know, another big Zufa event. And we
- 21:07Speaker 3: just had the September fight with Ryan Garcia versus Connor Ben,
- 21:11Speaker 3: who was with Zufa. And it was like, it's still
- 21:14Speaker 3: a Zufa thing. And they got the bigger name, uh, to,
- 21:17Speaker 3: to fight their guy. So I could potentially see that
- 21:19Speaker 3: being a similar thing, but yeah, it's.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Really, it's just, it's just Keyshawn is moving weird. He
- 21:25Speaker 4: has been moving weird for years, honestly.
- 21:27Speaker 5: And, um, I don't know.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I mean, I'm much less excited to see him back
- 21:32Speaker 3: in the ring than I am Richard Hitchens, to be honest.
- 21:35Speaker 5: Same.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 4: So I don't know.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I'm kind of honestly like for me personally, as a
- 21:42Speaker 3: fan of Hitchens, I'd rather see him knock Keyshawn out
- 21:45Speaker 3: and then him be the next guy. And just kind
- 21:48Speaker 3: of what we talked about before, have Keyshawn just be
- 21:50Speaker 3: the guy in the second and.
- 21:51Speaker 4: Third name on the poster there. Because he's just not
- 21:55Speaker 4: doing it for me, man. He's lost the juice as
- 21:57Speaker 4: far as I'm concerned.
- 21:59Speaker 3: There's just a couple of items on the news that
- 22:01Speaker 3: I wanted to talk about. We'll keep this one short here.
- 22:03Speaker 3: But yeah, we'll be talking about all these news stories
- 22:06Speaker 3: as more develops.
- 22:07Speaker 4: But yeah, Jameson, where can people find you on social media?
