- 0:01Welcome to Rick and That Michelle Chick, the weekly
- 0:05podcast where your hosts, Rick and Michelle, confidently dive
- 0:10into topics they know absolutely nothing about and somehow make
- 0:15it sound legit. They're not experts.
- 0:17They're not qualified. Honestly, they barely googled
- 0:20it. So grab a drink, lower your
- 0:23expectations, and let's pretend this counts as content.
- 0:28So buckle up. Facts are optional, but the
- 0:31bullshit? That's premium grade.
- 0:34This is Rick and that Michelle chick.
- 0:41I just started following a podcast with two of my favorite
- 0:44Star Trek actors and it's their very first episode.
- 0:47They did a live stream, you know, and they did and they did
- 0:50a good job, but it, it made me more appreciative because again,
- 0:55for what we do, being from radio and all that, and, and so here,
- 1:00whenever we do this podcast, I'm like, no one cares, we suck,
- 1:03blah, blah, blah, blah. That's, that's the, the, what I
- 1:06think about. And then I realized watching
- 1:08these two Star Trek actor, which are, they're fabulous.
- 1:10I mean, they're great actors, right?
- 1:11But them doing a podcast is totally different than being an
- 1:14actor. Oh yeah.
- 1:16And, and you can really see the difference.
- 1:19I I became more appreciative actually of this podcast or what
- 1:22we're doing and not to give myself such a hard time about it
- 1:27because after seeing my two favorite actors, like kind of
- 1:30they muddled through it. They muddled through it And I
- 1:32know it was like their their first episode or whatever, but
- 1:34but they did a great they did a good job.
- 1:37But I but I but but there was a lot of it was just coherent, the
- 1:41organization and all that the. Interest, especially if they did
- 1:44it live, they did it. Live we are recording.
- 1:47This. Yeah, I can go back and chop up
- 1:51whatever I need to, but. But I but it was interesting.
- 1:54I saw they can do a teaser where they're, I mean, they were, you
- 1:57could tell they were eating off cue cards.
- 1:58They were, there was cue cards, you could tell.
- 2:00And then when I watched, when I watched their first episode,
- 2:05they have a producer, they have a producer, they have a writer,
- 2:07all these different things that we don't have at all, right?
- 2:10None of that. And so it was interesting to
- 2:11watch it. And then and I, I again, I
- 2:13became appreciative that, oh, you and I can sit and have a
- 2:16conversation. I'm not saying it's a perfect
- 2:18conversation. I'm just saying that at least I
- 2:21don't feel like there's there's any awkwardness in the
- 2:24conversation. No, I think probably the first
- 2:27couple, but that was mainly because I had been on a radio
- 2:30for so long that it was weird for me to hop back into that and
- 2:35just. Plus I again I am not used to
- 2:37being the one in control or the driver.
- 2:40Your this is your. Right.
- 2:42Like I'm the one that edits it. I'm the one that usually has
- 2:46like, hey, can we talk about this, this?
- 2:47I mean, you have creative ability to your input, your
- 2:51creative input too. It's not like I'm going to be
- 2:53like, no, we're not going to talk about that.
- 2:54I don't want to talk about. That well as as our listeners
- 2:56have commented, I have a way of taking things over.
- 2:59So yeah. And that is that is a fair, that
- 3:02is a fair statement that and that's a fair statement.
- 3:05I don't try to I mean, I don't try to, but no, it's who you
- 3:09are. But it but I got all these great
- 3:11stories and like, oh, that's a good story.
- 3:12Oh, that's a good story. Oh so.
- 3:14Yeah, yeah. So.
- 3:16Anyway, so anyway, it just again, I'm just saying thank you
- 3:19for doing this podcast and thank you and I'm just a more
- 3:21appreciative and your friend. What was your friend's name
- 3:23again? Risa.
- 3:25Risa. OK, Risa, you know, thank you.
- 3:27Thank you for the observations. And as I always say, we'll do
- 3:30better. But we never do.
- 3:33We never do. We never.
- 3:34Say we do, I think we do a little bit, but we we never do.
- 3:38We do. But but I I didn't.
- 3:40Again, I at least some of this is coherent, which is is a good
- 3:44thing. Yeah.
- 3:46I mean, sometimes I think we're not paying attention to each
- 3:49other as well as we could be. Oh, absolutely.
- 3:52You know, but that's with any conversation.
- 3:55So that and it's kind of who we are.
- 3:59And I will tell you this from a radio standpoint.
- 4:01So I do a daily radio program. And even when you and I were
- 4:04doing mornings together and Tom and I doing mornings, I've done
- 4:07mornings for a long, long time. You know, every day is not the
- 4:11same. And so that's what make what
- 4:13that's what makes it unique. When you're doing a radio
- 4:16program, every single day is like you said, that engagement.
- 4:20And it doesn't mean you're not trying to be engaged, but but
- 4:23some days you're on, some days you're off.
- 4:25It's great. And and so I, I think it's
- 4:27totally different. I'm sure you can agree when you
- 4:30do a comedy show, comedy show that the, you know, you have
- 4:33your bits, you have your, you know what you're doing.
- 4:35And you do that at every town you go to.
- 4:38So you. Over and over and over.
- 4:40Yeah, you work on that every single day and every single
- 4:43night to where it's absolute perfection.
- 4:45Timing, all of that radio, you're doing it, especially if
- 4:49you're live, you're doing it without a safety net.
- 4:51And so some days you're you're really engaged and some days
- 4:55you're not feeling it. And I've learned.
- 4:57There, or you're hungover. And I've learned on those days,
- 5:00you shut up, play some music. But we can't do that here
- 5:05though. But I will tell you, when you're
- 5:07in the zone, it's the best feeling ever.
- 5:09Right. Yeah.
- 5:10When you know, everybody's like firing on all cylinders.
- 5:13Yeah, yeah, when you when you know you've done a great radio
- 5:16bit and you know it's good. And and one of my favorite
- 5:19stories, of course, is Becky Brenner or Jay Albright.
- 5:22Remember, they were monitoring the show.
- 5:24We kicked off at 6:00 and I said, we're going to make this
- 5:27the best show ever, 'cause we know the consultant is
- 5:29listening. And we got to 810 and somebody
- 5:33came in and said, hey, this, this, this radio spots missing
- 5:36or something. And so that next brick brake
- 5:39crashed hard. And then when we got talked to
- 5:42Jay or it was Becky at 9:00, she's like, hey, Oh my.
- 5:44She goes, oh God, the show was so and she even said was she
- 5:47not? She was absolutely
- 5:48complimentary. And then she goes, what happened
- 5:50at 8:10? Yeah, yes, yeah.
- 5:53Which is funny that you, you know, like we knew the
- 5:56consultants were going to listen.
- 5:57And usually when that happens, it's reversal.
- 6:00Like you freak out and have like the worst show of your career
- 6:05because, you know, they're listening.
- 6:07And so that gets in your head and messes with you and luckily
- 6:10with us, but. But I and you, you know, you,
- 6:13you know that that show we up until 8:10, I know for a fact it
- 6:18was probably the best show that you could possibly ever do.
- 6:21And because we had, we had callers, we had phoners.
- 6:23I mean, we was, it was smooth as butter.
- 6:26And then and 8:10 someone comes in, Oh, there's a, there's a
- 6:28spot missing. Can you take a look at it and
- 6:30blow, we blow the brake, we try to get to the break.
- 6:32And then and it's funny, the consultant goes, what was that?
- 6:35Which? Which they they weren't supposed
- 6:37to come into the studio at all. Even if there's a missing spot,
- 6:41they're not supposed to come in and disrupt our show.
- 6:43But they never ever and no one listened to those roles ever.
- 6:48No, ever. Ever, ever.
- 6:49So when you're so on your favorite, on your favorite radio
- 6:51station, when you're like, why do they sound distracted?
- 6:53Well, it's usually some bozo coming and saying something that
- 6:56let's throwing the whole show off.
- 6:57They're not. Well, and let's describe so the
- 6:59door, it's like, sure, the door is closed, but there is a window
- 7:03in the door in all the studios. And So what would happen is if
- 7:07somebody needed something, they would stand right outside the
- 7:10door, like looking in the window.
- 7:12And it's like, how can you not acknowledge these?
- 7:15You might be on the air, but you're distracted because now
- 7:18you see this person looking through the window, staring at
- 7:20you. You know they need something and
- 7:22so. That throws you off and that
- 7:24makes you rush the brake or rush this dead and then.
- 7:27Yeah, you're not paying attention anymore.
- 7:29And yeah, yeah. Anyway, those are just our
- 7:32little, little idiosyncrasies that would happen to us on the
- 7:35radio. So today I know that Michelle
- 7:37has got some great topics and let's get it.
- 7:40Let's get it. Well, I.
- 7:41Know that, Yeah, we call it. Yeah, I know.
- 7:42That. Logan thinks we shouldn't talk
- 7:44about politics too much. But I can't not talk about the
- 7:47Alex pretty thing. Yeah, it's topic.
- 7:49A. I know that we are living in the
- 7:52upside down world when the NRA is starting to make sense, I.
- 7:55Saw that? For me, I was like, damn.
- 7:59And so I've just been in Alex's honor, just trying to be more
- 8:04conscious of doing something to help someone, even if it's a
- 8:11small act, because I feel like, you know, that's what he was
- 8:14doing right before he died, was helping that woman that was on
- 8:18the ground that they had pepper sprayed and pushed.
- 8:21And so I've been trying to be more conscious of that and
- 8:25trying to do more things like that in his honor.
- 8:28So, and the statement that his sister, I read that yesterday,
- 8:31Oh my God, I was like bawling, bawling.
- 8:35Very, very powerful. Statement now one thing that I
- 8:38have to I do have to I will make a mention of which I think it's
- 8:41absolutely ridiculous and I don't care who hears this is so
- 8:45in our in in the Tri-cities, some of the schools, the
- 8:48students are walking out and they're doing and they're doing
- 8:51their ice protest. And I cannot believe the
- 8:53ignorance in the Facebook comments of of people going they
- 8:59should be in school. Oh, I bet a teacher
- 9:01indoctrinated them. I mean, the list just goes on
- 9:03and on of and I, I am so proud of these kids.
- 9:06I am so proud that this is what blows my mind is this is
- 9:13America. This is America and you're
- 9:15allowed to have an opinion. And and because it doesn't line
- 9:19up with somebody else, then you're then the expectation now
- 9:23is you're just you're we're just going to kill you now.
- 9:26I know. The fact and the fact that they
- 9:27don't think that high schoolers should have an opinion.
- 9:30Oh yeah? Oh my.
- 9:31Well, they don't think, Michelle.
- 9:33They don't think entertainers should have an opinion.
- 9:35They don't think an actor or an actor should have an opinion.
- 9:37I mean, they don't should. We should play a.
- 9:39Basketball. Yeah.
- 9:40Play A10. And start the play music.
- 9:42It's like we're human beings and, and regardless of what our
- 9:46job is, we are allowed to have an opinion.
- 9:49And I don't care who you are because it's funny.
- 9:52And I always, I always say this is I said the only reason why
- 9:54it's not your opinion coming out of my mouth, right?
- 9:57So, so it's like, so it's like, so is it now if my opinion was
- 10:02coming out of my mouth or your opinion was coming out of my
- 10:04mouth? Oh we, oh we, we wholeheartedly
- 10:06agree with you on that. Oh yeah, we'd be best buddies.
- 10:09So I'm very proud I'm very proud of kids.
- 10:11I'm very proud of the people that are still there fighting
- 10:14the good fight. Absolutely this is not this is
- 10:16not a gun issue and on and to see the NRA step in absolutely
- 10:21he he was legally carrying so you you you can't have it both
- 10:24ways. You cannot sit there and and
- 10:27tell people to carry arms. And then it was his
- 10:30constitutional right. And then, I mean, he was, he was
- 10:32murdered in cold blood. I don't care what anybody says.
- 10:35I mean. Shooting someone 10 times is way
- 10:38over the top. And so this is the procedure.
- 10:41So you know, the one officer that you can see in the video
- 10:45like removes the gun and you hear them yell gun with that
- 10:49that is what they're they're supposed to yell gun when they
- 10:51see one like that, that is procedure.
- 10:54But when it gets removed or cleared, so to speak, they are
- 10:58supposed to yell that it that it's secure.
- 11:02But that doesn't happen in that video.
- 11:04Nobody. And then after they are.
- 11:07They taking to the ground. They taking to the ground.
- 11:08Yeah, and they're looking for the gun.
- 11:11Yeah. Well, even from the vice
- 11:13president of the country saying that an ICE officer or ICE
- 11:17person has absolute immunity. No, that police don't have
- 11:21absolute immunity. Fire people.
- 11:23It is sickening to the stomach that we have half the country is
- 11:28ignoring the truth in the in these situations.
- 11:31And because they don't politically line up and and you
- 11:34know, not everything has to be stupid politics.
- 11:37It's like what happened to the day.
- 11:38And I'm going to I'm going to defend George Bush.
- 11:40I'm going to defend Bush senior. I'll even defend Ronald Reagan
- 11:44in those situations. They weren't doing this
- 11:46bullshit. Ronald Reagan in 1980 when he
- 11:50talked about immigration. There's a video of Ronald Reagan
- 11:52in his campaign talking about we want to welcome everybody to the
- 11:56country we want. To open the borders.
- 11:58Yes, yes, go look at the Ronald Reagan video from 1980
- 12:02campaigning against Jimmy Carter.
- 12:04He talks about that. He talks about pathways to
- 12:07citizenship and, and no retribution and all these
- 12:10different things. This is this is Reagan was the
- 12:13Republican God for so many years.
- 12:15And so it's almost it's it's it's.
- 12:17You wouldn't be a Republican by their standards.
- 12:19Now someone, someone put up yesterday like Jesus would have
- 12:22complied. Really.
- 12:24Jesus would have complied? What?
- 12:26Yes, someone put up a meme thing.
- 12:27Jesus would have been. Helping that woman, the same
- 12:29thing Alex was doing. Jesus would have complied.
- 12:33Put his body over her. He would have protected her like
- 12:36that's. These people need to go back and
- 12:38read their Bible. I don't, I don't know what
- 12:40sacrifice. Jesus because he didn't comply,
- 12:42yes, they killed him because he did not.
- 12:46I mean, so if you want to be religious about this situation
- 12:49is Jesus would comply. These people it is.
- 12:52I never thought I'd ever see a cult in my life on that level or
- 12:56political level. I mean, I've heard of Charles
- 12:58Manson. And there was what is the, the,
- 13:02there's a guy named Jones from the early 70s when we were
- 13:04little kids. But they he's.
- 13:05Oh yeah. The kool-aid where they drink,
- 13:07called the kool-aid. Yes, that's a Guy Jones.
- 13:09No, it's not Alex Jones. But there's a name, there's a
- 13:13it's a Jones guy and Jim Jones. I don't know.
- 13:16Jim Jones. That's it.
- 13:17Thank you. Jim Jones.
- 13:19No, you got it right, Jim Jones. And and I was like, well, this
- 13:22stuff can't happen in real life. Or, or at least it's a small
- 13:25group of people, you know, So even growing up as kids, we had
- 13:29the skinheads which were in Coeur d'Alene, remember Hayden
- 13:31Lake? Yep, Yep.
- 13:32But they lived in their compound for the most part.
- 13:34They stayed in their compound. I mean, they come out and they,
- 13:37they cause a problem and they, and they would, they'd get,
- 13:39they'd pay for it. So I never thought we'd see this
- 13:42at a nationwide level. And then and then the lack of
- 13:45empathy and they'll just the list goes on and on.
- 13:48This is tragic. And then not to hold.
- 13:50And then I'm like, where's Congress?
- 13:52Where's where's your representative?
- 13:53You know, I know Tim Walls is doing whatever he can, but.
- 13:55He's the governor. I get it.
- 13:57But it's like he did call him the National Guard.
- 13:59He called. National limitations, yeah.
- 14:01Yeah, he does have limitations, but for God's sake, somebody do
- 14:03something. I think the thing that is so
- 14:06difficult for me is because when we talk about those that have
- 14:11different differing views than you, it's, I think now like it's
- 14:15so extreme that someone that has a different view than me is fine
- 14:20with me dying or being killed like that.
- 14:23I think that's what I really have a problem with is how
- 14:27people are so quick to be like, well, you're, you're Liberal
- 14:31Democrat, you deserve to die. And it's like, what is going on?
- 14:36Where did this like jump off the tracks at some point in in our
- 14:40society? It's just crazy to me because.
- 14:43I would never. Think that about someone else
- 14:46that has a differing view so. But they, but they've made it
- 14:49that way. They, you know, the, the
- 14:52commander in chief, you know, and, and I know they're having
- 14:55meetings now and he's trying to back off the rhetoric.
- 14:57But it, it, this is the way it always goes.
- 14:59You know, he, he throws the rhetoric out there.
- 15:01He throws the red meat out there.
- 15:03Right. And then and, and then let's go
- 15:05back to, you know, the being armed at a rally.
- 15:09Hello. Hello, Trumpsters.
- 15:12Yeah, by that standard. You know what exactly they
- 15:16should. Have all been shot, then if
- 15:19those are the standards that were going by, then all of them,
- 15:23the Capitol Police officers should have had the right to
- 15:26shoot them then if that's the logic we're using now.
- 15:30They're not, and they don't care what he says.
- 15:31I don't care what he says. They're not patriots.
- 15:33They're not patriots, they're not patriots.
- 15:35I'm sorry no matter what and and interested enough that there's
- 15:39been a lot and we won't go too far into it.
- 15:40But it's interesting that they don't pick Texas or California,
- 15:44where there's way more immigration issues, but they
- 15:48Florida. And Florida have over each like
- 15:51like 1.5 million illegal immigrants.
- 15:54So we pick Minneapolis, a blue state where we can go pick on
- 15:57Tim Walls or what you know, I'm saying just to disrupt and, and
- 16:00then and then again to have the vice president.
- 16:02I will. I'm just, I will never vote.
- 16:04Well, I never liked him anyway, but I'd never vote for JD Vance
- 16:07if he was the last. Super Weasley I don't like.
- 16:09Oh. Disgusting.
- 16:10And then the I mask air. I'm sorry.
- 16:11I don't usually call. I don't need to call people out,
- 16:13but he's a punk. It's fine if guys wear mascara
- 16:17and fingernail Polish and. Like that's.
- 16:20Perfectly fine. Well, and my big thing with JD
- 16:23Vance more than anything else is, you know, he, you know, I,
- 16:25you know, when I was a foster kid, blah, blah, blah.
- 16:27Well, you should have some fucking empathy.
- 16:29Exactly. You know he knows Exactly.
- 16:32And, and, and the crazy thing about JD Vance is his his
- 16:37grandparents paid for his ride to Yale and his grandfather was
- 16:40part of a union. Yes, Yep.
- 16:42So you fat, you spit in the face, you spit in the face of
- 16:47the people who helped you on your way And, and it's just
- 16:51disgusting. I there, I don't know, I, I'm so
- 16:54proud of the kids here in town or I'm proud of kids that are
- 16:58walking out. They have they have every right
- 17:00to walk out. I will, you know, I know Logan
- 17:02may not be listening or he might be listening.
- 17:03That's one thing I'm proud of my son is I know I would.
- 17:07I, as a parent, I'd let him walk.
- 17:09Oh, yeah, I would not. I would not.
- 17:11Even if I disagreed with Logan, I would not let my personal
- 17:14political beliefs interfere with him doing what he thinks he
- 17:18needs to do. Right.
- 17:19And like I think my kids remember the March for Life when
- 17:23that I think that was right after Parkland happened and that
- 17:26whole March for Life and the kids were walking out of school.
- 17:29We had we had that discussion because they asked we want to
- 17:33leave school. Is it OK if we do?
- 17:35And the schools were saying, well, if you leave, you're going
- 17:38to get suspended, you know, whatever it.
- 17:39Was my kid yeah, Mark my kid absent.
- 17:42I love, I love, I love what they.
- 17:43Said, I said, yes, I stand behind you.
- 17:47You do what? Because I'm not the one that is
- 17:50having to go through these lockdown drills and living in
- 17:53fear. Like that wasn't something for
- 17:54us growing up. So I have no idea what it's like
- 17:57for them to be at school every day and be so anxious that
- 18:00someone's going to come through that door and just open fire.
- 18:03So I was like. Yeah.
- 18:05I stand behind you. I.
- 18:09You now we weren't doing nuclear drills, but but.
- 18:12We. We.
- 18:12Lived in the cold, cold, you know, Cold War era and and
- 18:16Reagan and Grubishoff and that and you know just thinking about
- 18:19the Cold War and nuclear. I mean that was really our big
- 18:21fear so but but 100% I would love I mean, again, I don't have
- 18:25kids in school anymore, but I would love for the
- 18:27administration to calm and go yeah, your kids going to walk
- 18:30out Yeah, he is, but we're going to spend him OK, you know what
- 18:32I'm saying? I'd love to be that.
- 18:33I'd love to be that parents and I'd love for some MAGA MAGA
- 18:37person to flip their shut the shut up, you know?
- 18:43Okay, did we? I was going to say, are we okay?
- 18:47Did you say your piece on the whole, Alex Pretty everything
- 18:49you wanted to say or? Have every right to carry you
- 18:53now we've talked a lot about this before we go before we get
- 18:55done with this I I hate the fact that because I'm a Democrat or
- 19:02an independent or whatever, they just truly believe that I don't
- 19:04believe that you should not be allowed to carry guns.
- 19:06That's not true. I've never seen there.
- 19:07Are plenty of Democrats who carry guns and there are also so
- 19:12you know, these groups, these militia groups the on the right.
- 19:15There are also ones on the left, just FYI.
- 19:19So. Yeah, absolutely.
- 19:20Well, and and this absurd. So to me, it's like you have the
- 19:23right to bear arms. That's absolutely 100% correct.
- 19:252nd Amendment stand behind that. Do you need a howitzer Now
- 19:29that's something I that's where that's where I'm at.
- 19:31It's like OK, what, what limits should you have that I'm OK with
- 19:36because you should you have the right to bear arms, but do you
- 19:39need a howitzer to go deer hunting?
- 19:41I don't think so, no. So you don't need an A, you know
- 19:43that, you know, an AR-17 or whatever.
- 19:45I just don't believe that. So I do, I believe you can have
- 19:48rifles and, you know, 22 and and guns and all that.
- 19:51Absolutely. Handgun, you need to protect
- 19:53yourself. I get it.
- 19:54So. Trust me, and I love the fact
- 19:56because as I've always said, if the military wanted you dead,
- 19:58you'd be dead. There are other ways, yeah.
- 20:00You've already seen that in these sad shootings.
- 20:02I mean, if they want to kill you, they're going to kill you.
- 20:05Right. And the stuff that we don't even
- 20:07know that they have the capabilities.
- 20:09Oh my gosh, the Jerome they could drop a bomb on your
- 20:11handmade. Right, they don't need.
- 20:15It's not things of science fiction.
- 20:17It's not things of science fiction.
- 20:18If they want to roll a tank through your town, they could
- 20:20roll a tank through your town and you're they don't even need
- 20:23to do. That.
- 20:24Yeah, your your gun isn't going to do nothing against a tank.
- 20:27Right, right. OK, let's move on.
- 20:28Like, here's my shirt. There you go.
- 20:31Are you getting excited for the big game?
- 20:33Yes, so this is my Tyler Lockett jersey.
- 20:36I did not want to wear my Shakim jersey because that is signed by
- 20:40him, so I don't wear that anymore.
- 20:43But yes, this is the redemption match up.
- 20:48Yeah, I'm still looking forward to 1.
- 20:51I hope that we kick their ass. Yeah, I, I'd called this a
- 20:57couple weeks back with Patty. I said, oh, this is a Patriot
- 21:00Seahawk. You.
- 21:00Said you, and you said that on our podcast too.
- 21:04You. Said.
- 21:04I really believe, I really believe, I really believe this.
- 21:08The Hawks are going to just go like over the top of them.
- 21:10I do I I have something so I'm trying not to I think.
- 21:13The Seahawks are a better team. Right.
- 21:15You try not to be like boastful for your team because it you're
- 21:18like, I'll jinx it in my mind. That's what I'm thinking.
- 21:21If I'm like, yeah, the Seahawks are going to take it off.
- 21:24No, you don't. No.
- 21:25Trying to rein that in. Yeah, shit talk.
- 21:28And I, I'm with you on the fact that I don't, you know, because
- 21:32as you already know, my, my Cowboys aren't going.
- 21:34But I don't, I don't ever. Even when I'm at work, I don't
- 21:37shit talk anybody else's team because on any given day your
- 21:40team can lose. Yes, yeah.
- 21:42So. So I don't sit around ever going
- 21:44that we're going to, you know, so, yeah.
- 21:45But I truly believe the way they're playing, I think they're
- 21:49going to roll over the Patriots. Now.
- 21:51I'm bummed for the Broncos because I want, I really want
- 21:55the Broncos, the Ox. But Bo Nix, once Bo Nix hurt his
- 21:58ankle, I went. That's done because you can't.
- 22:01You can't put in a cold QB and expect to do anything.
- 22:04But I watched that game and he actually did very, very well.
- 22:08So the kid did. No, The kid did what he could
- 22:10do. I mean, you know, that was some
- 22:12amazing shots that kid took. He did great.
- 22:14Yeah. But but once the Bonex broke the
- 22:16I was like oh that's done. I was, I was, I was hoping and
- 22:19praying. I was like, come on, come on
- 22:22you. Guys, it would have been cool.
- 22:23I would have been, you know, because anybody would have been
- 22:25a West Coast thing with the Bronx and.
- 22:27The and the whole underdog story of their TV, like, yeah, I
- 22:30would. I'm all for an underdog.
- 22:32And then, of course, I'm the Mariners.
- 22:33Fan Hawks play. You'd want the Hawks to win, of
- 22:34course. Yes, yeah, of course.
- 22:39All right. So I wanted to talk about, well,
- 22:43actually, you know, like you just recently had AC issues in
- 22:47your house, right? Well, now it's my turn for house
- 22:50troubles. Home ownership sucks.
- 22:52Yes. This is this is hang on, hang
- 22:54on, hang on, Michelle. This is the section we call home
- 22:57Ownership sucks. Go.
- 22:59Ahead, this is gonna be our our every other week segment.
- 23:03Yes, yes. So this happened to me.
- 23:07Our septic backed up, which we've had problems with this
- 23:11before. So when this happens, then that
- 23:14means it backs up into the bathtub downstairs, on the
- 23:17toilet downstairs, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 23:20And. That smell, does it have that
- 23:22nasty smell? Yes, because it's literally
- 23:25like, shit, something like that. I think it literally is.
- 23:33And so then we can't flush the toilets, we can't use the sinks
- 23:37because you can't have the water going down into the septic.
- 23:41And so they couldn't get out to try and fix it until the
- 23:44following day. And we were going to go to a
- 23:48hotel, but Shelly was like, I don't want to.
- 23:50I don't want to leave the cats. And so I'm like, Oh my God.
- 23:53They'll survive. They'll survive.
- 23:55So we didn't. So that means we couldn't flush
- 23:58the toilet, we couldn't take showers.
- 24:00And I put like huge metal bowls in the sink under like the
- 24:04kitchen sink so that whatever we were using the sink or dumping,
- 24:08like if I needed to make coffee, dumping out the old coffee and
- 24:11putting it stayed in those metal bowls.
- 24:13And then I had to take them outside and dump them out
- 24:16outside. So yeah, it was a lot.
- 24:18But they did come and fix it. Luckily it wasn't thousands of
- 24:22dollars. It was only it was only $450.
- 24:25What? What was?
- 24:26It but they did we also pump our septic tank at the same time.
- 24:30Well, it's and again, this we've had this problem before and it's
- 24:34where the the pipe for the septic and drainage coming right
- 24:38out of the house is it keeps getting clogged and so Jay has
- 24:42to dig it up and fix it and until the weather gets a little
- 24:46bit better, that's not going to happen.
- 24:47But it should be OK now. We shouldn't have any problems
- 24:51with it for a while. I think the last time we had a
- 24:53problem with it was maybe last year.
- 24:57It might have been sooner. So yeah.
- 24:59So that was our septic tank drama.
- 25:02I I'll take 5. $100 in repairs any day of the week.
- 25:05Yeah, instead of thousands. Yeah, yeah.
- 25:06Yeah, any day of the week. Oh, we, when we.
- 25:09We're like a new septic system that would have cost us like
- 25:12$20,000. So, so, so when we moved from
- 25:15Prosser, it was interesting that our toilet, the septic, worked
- 25:19great, right? But it had a little bubble.
- 25:22We had a little bubble what when he flushed it in one of the
- 25:24toilets and so the guy which. Means there's a backup.
- 25:27I just learned this. Or there was there.
- 25:29Wasn't though, but the, but the guy came and the inspector goes,
- 25:32oh, you're gonna and he didn't even, he just goes, he saw that
- 25:34little bubble and he goes, oh, you need $20,000, you need to
- 25:37RIP up the entire septic, you know.
- 25:39No, he was. And I'm like, we're like, and
- 25:41our, we had a great real estate agent and she goes, Oh yeah,
- 25:44we'll find somebody else. And they came and they came and
- 25:47said, yeah, your septic's fine. But this guy, you know, I mean,
- 25:50I don't, I don't, I don't know about you.
- 25:52Luckily you got away with 500 bucks.
- 25:54I don't trust people. I just don't, I don't believe
- 25:58people and I don't trust people. It's kind of like a mechanic.
- 26:00It's like you got to find, you got to find yourself a good
- 26:02mechanic that you trust to do the work, right?
- 26:06And then you stick with that mechanic.
- 26:07It's the same thing as who, who cuts your hair or anything.
- 26:10Because because I just feel like in this day and age, I feel like
- 26:13they're deliberately trying to, to get, you know, like a
- 26:15doctor's like I even going to the vet or the doctor now I feel
- 26:19like it's just for the dentist. Yeah.
- 26:21I feel like I, I feel like it's now become how can we make more
- 26:24money off somebody not what's reasonable.
- 26:26So I'm glad it's. Fine, yeah, at least now we have
- 26:29YouTube, so we if you are not sure you can go.
- 26:33Go, Jay, get the plunger. Jay, get the plunger.
- 26:36All right. Have fun with that.
- 26:38Jay, get the plunger. I'm sorry if it's between me
- 26:42digging out shit or having someone else dig out shit, I'll
- 26:45probably pay you the money to have someone dig out shit
- 26:47that's. Yes.
- 26:49I mean, I yeah. And if it's only that one little
- 26:52section that needs that's that might be a pretty easy.
- 26:54Fix. Yeah, yeah, I mean, he's had to
- 26:56fix it some other stuff before with our septic tank.
- 26:59I mean, nothing major, but yeah, when I think there was like a
- 27:03crack in it, one of the pipes. And so yeah, he literally had to
- 27:06dig it up and it's like poop and.
- 27:09Stuff all. Of course, yeah.
- 27:11Yes, it's septic, it's nasty and that weird.
- 27:13I just hate that weird smell is just the.
- 27:16Worst. Yeah, yeah, it was not great.
- 27:18It was all in our house. And so I had to like, turn on
- 27:21all this smell you. Should have left your daughter
- 27:23and got in your own room. I'll see you in six hours.
- 27:26I would have. I would have left her.
- 27:27I would have. I would have bailed.
- 27:28I would have been like, I'll see you.
- 27:29I'm gonna be at the Ritz. I'm gonna be at the Ritz.
- 27:31Yakima. I'll see you later.
- 27:33I I was like what? When she was like, I don't, I
- 27:36wanna sing he. The cats will survive then.
- 27:40The dats. One night.
- 27:41That's why they're cats, right? Yeah, you.
- 27:43Know we also have the dogs too, but.
- 27:44Well, of course, but you come back.
- 27:45You come back about every four hours, let them outside to go
- 27:47poop and pee and all that, and you're good.
- 27:49Yeah, I mean our dogs are actually good for like 8 hours,
- 27:52so they can. I think we pushed it one time
- 27:55for our dogs, maybe 10 hours. I didn't like it, but they
- 27:58survived, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:00And so then the same day that that happened, I dropped my
- 28:03Stanley Cup, this Cup right here on my on my toe, which these
- 28:07things are not light. It was full, full of ice and
- 28:11water dropped it. I tried to move my foot back,
- 28:15but, you know, getting older a little bit slower and so it
- 28:18clipped Ouch. My toe right next to my big toe.
- 28:22Yeah, I thought for sure I broke it.
- 28:24It hurts so bad. Is it?
- 28:27Is it, is it bruised now? Yeah, it's.
- 28:30Like, yeah, it's swelled up. It was like black and blue.
- 28:33I tried putting a shoe on and tried walking and was like, you
- 28:38know, every step I took was like.
- 28:42The better today. Yeah, it's, yeah, it's better.
- 28:45It's hard to tell because I've had my toes broken by my horse
- 28:48before. It's it's really and toes and
- 28:52toes are just hard to tell if you broke them anyway.
- 28:56And so so I don't think I broke it, but honestly, I have no
- 29:01idea. I mean, it's a little bit
- 29:02better, but yeah. So that was my fun for the last
- 29:07couple days. When things happen, they just
- 29:09happen all all at the same time. So yeah, I was just trying to
- 29:12think fun times. It's.
- 29:14Supposed to. Come.
- 29:14Oh God. So what's next?
- 29:17Yeah, yeah, one more to 111 more to go through and then you're
- 29:19good. Hopefully whatever comes next
- 29:21isn't thousands of dollars like that.
- 29:23Yeah, we don't. Yeah, well, I don't know.
- 29:25I just, I just did our taxes and we, I don't know about you guys,
- 29:28but we pay thousands in taxes. I think even with the Jay's
- 29:35income, we have the two kids in college, so that helps a little
- 29:39bit. We have, we have had to pay
- 29:42before, so that's not new. But luckily with Jackson and
- 29:46Shailene College, it has a bid too too much.
- 29:49But. Yeah, it's.
- 29:50Possible that could happen this year, Who knows?
- 29:53Without without 0 dependence, we got nothing.
- 29:56And then and then they and then they've changed the taxes
- 29:58because I do our taxes, they change the taxes to where
- 30:01they've now made the the exemption for married people
- 30:04above, above your mortgage payment.
- 30:06There's no, there's not enough student loan, there's not enough
- 30:10interest on any of these things to even itemize to get unless,
- 30:14unless you have made big, which I'm, I'm a DJ, I'm broke.
- 30:17So it's not like I make, it's not like I have boats.
- 30:20It's not like I have a boat and a trailer and all these things
- 30:22and three or four cars that I'm taking none of that.
- 30:25So, yeah. So it's one of those things
- 30:27where the personal exemption for 2 married people, there's not
- 30:30enough mortgage interest that you pay that's going to make it
- 30:34above that 30,000 this year's 3150, I believe.
- 30:37So, yeah, the frustrating is, yeah, there's no dependents and
- 30:40there's no kids. I mean my dogs.
- 30:44Hopefully they'll change it so we can add our pets as
- 30:46dependents. I mean, they cost just as much,
- 30:49maybe more sometimes. They, they, they, they do.
- 30:51And you can't take any of that. You can't take any of that off.
- 30:54And you know, so it's as I always make jokes about taxes,
- 30:57it's a rigged system. It's rigged.
- 31:00It is. It is rigged because because I
- 31:03had a a boss many years ago that he leased his family cars and
- 31:07use them as business expenses. So they're driving brand new
- 31:10cars, but he was taking it off on his tag.
- 31:12I mean the list just goes on and on.
- 31:14Yeah, yeah. I mean, I worked at AI, worked
- 31:16at a radio station where they had A tag on a dot matrix
- 31:18printer that hadn't worked in 20-30 years.
- 31:21And they're like, that's an asset.
- 31:22That's an asset. I'm like it's.
- 31:24An. Asset, it's an asset.
- 31:26I'm like it's a it's a write off basically.
- 31:28But. Yeah, it's, yeah, but it doesn't
- 31:31work. But yet they're able to go.
- 31:32Well, that's, you know, the IRS is all that.
- 31:35Well, that's work, You know, $250 off what?
- 31:39Yeah. So anyway, don't get me talking
- 31:40about taxes. Yeah, we haven't done ours.
- 31:43We usually wait till. We usually wait till the last
- 31:45minute to do ours. For you guys, well, we have.
- 31:48A We have an accountant that does ours because where Jay
- 31:51works in Oregon, they have state income tax.
- 31:55And so we just have him do it because it's super complicated
- 31:59and. It's.
- 32:00Worth it to pay? For me, because because the IRS
- 32:04loves me so much, I need to get those.
- 32:06I need to get it done by January.
- 32:08Like I need to know what the damage.
- 32:10It's almost like. It's almost like Star Trek.
- 32:11And. Like damage, damage report, I
- 32:14need to know what that money is going to be so I can start, so I
- 32:17can start saving up to pay the bill.
- 32:20You know, I don't, again, I don't have like excess cash
- 32:23laying around to pay the IRS. So, you know, I make the payment
- 32:26every year and I wait till April, April 15th at whatever
- 32:30that date is like to take it from my account, even though I
- 32:33even know four months ahead when I'm going to pay.
- 32:36I've got it like clockwork. And so, yeah, if there's any
- 32:39secrets out there besides cheating, and I'm not going to
- 32:43acknowledge any of that on this podcast, I'm not saying that.
- 32:47Give us, give us some tips. Oh, I did want to ask you.
- 32:53I saw that Watershed was cancelled this year.
- 32:58Yeah. I was shocked when I heard it,
- 33:00but they didn't give a reason. And so I thought I'll ask Rick.
- 33:04He might have some insider info as to why it got cancelled or
- 33:08what. What what really happened.
- 33:10I know that. I know that artists are costing
- 33:12a lot, a lot more nowadays. And I know last year Watershed
- 33:17didn't sell out, did it? I think.
- 33:18I did not not to say that it wasn't successful.
- 33:22I think so I did the article for the radio station when the news
- 33:25broke and they're taking a hiatus, which means they may
- 33:28never come back. I mean, so I, I think there's a
- 33:31lot, I think you already mentioned a couple components
- 33:33why I think it's not happening. Number one, artists cost so much
- 33:37money for, for anybody nowadays in the lower, you know, even the
- 33:41lower ring is going to cost you a lot of money.
- 33:43And I also think that they've been doing it for 13 years and
- 33:46they've rotated through a lot of artists.
- 33:48I mean, of the big, of the big names, you're never going to
- 33:51get, you're never going to get George Strait.
- 33:53You're not going to get, I mean, they're, they're a million plus
- 33:56if you want them. So you're not going to get,
- 33:58yeah, you're not getting those guys.
- 33:59You're not getting the, the, the, the, the, the, the tear
- 34:01you're not getting. So you're rotating through your
- 34:03Miranda Lambert's, your Keith Urban's Luke Bryan, Luke Bryan,
- 34:06Jason Aldean. And so after 13 years, I think
- 34:09they did a real good gauntlet of who of who's who.
- 34:12Then you've got people in the comments bitching about, well,
- 34:16you know, these are retreads or these are artists that have been
- 34:19there before. And so you I think that's I
- 34:22think that's a machine that's hard to please.
- 34:24And I think and so I think from a financial and then I and then
- 34:27on the other hand, and you and I both know it's Sodom and
- 34:31Gomorrah. So unlike all the other
- 34:32conscious to go to the gorge, the the shedders I I don't want
- 34:36to speak out of turn, but they trash the place.
- 34:39They they used to, but I know they've really tried to
- 34:42implement cleaning up your campsites.
- 34:45They did really bad that one year.
- 34:47I remember that that was. Yeah, there was.
- 34:49I mean, there was so much. I mean, it was so much crap
- 34:51everywhere. And I'm not picking on the.
- 34:52Thing because I mean, you could say that about any concert that
- 34:55happens at the gorge. I get it, but I don't think it's
- 34:58at the level in which the, the level that watershed, the damage
- 35:02that watershed does, because again, I think it all comes down
- 35:08to the audience and, and, and the shedders are young.
- 35:11I mean, they're young, they're young.
- 35:13It it's not, it's not 60 year olds going, it's not people
- 35:17going to see John Mellencamp, you know, or Dave Matthews Band.
- 35:21These are early 20s. They just turned 21.
- 35:23They're getting as pissed drunk as humanly possible.
- 35:26Wearing as little clothes as humans.
- 35:28I mean, it is like 105° out usually when this is going on.
- 35:32So yeah. But but I but I believe that, I
- 35:35think, I think there's a lot of components to why Watershed
- 35:38isn't happening. So I think it all just come to a
- 35:40head to where they're like, OK, let's just not.
- 35:42I think, I think lack of artists that you know that they can, you
- 35:45know that you can just the tickets are outrageous.
- 35:47The camping's outrageous. It had just gotten to the point
- 35:49to where I don't think it was. It's feasible from all, from all
- 35:52sides, from all sides. Right.
- 35:55And, and for us here in the tri-cities, we now have the
- 35:58Pendleton Whiskey Music Fest, which is 2 weeks before
- 36:00Watershed. Zach Top has already been
- 36:02announced. So I think a lot, I think that
- 36:06takes a lot of, I think that and who was last year?
- 36:09I mean, I got to go back and look at who was last year, but
- 36:11they've they've managed to bring in some big acts.
- 36:13They have. Remember the year they brought
- 36:15in Maroon 5? Yeah.
- 36:18So yeah, they. Post Malone, they've done Post
- 36:20Malone. I can't think I've taught me who
- 36:23last year. Oh, Cody Johnson, Cody Johnson
- 36:25was last year, Cody Johnson and Nelly.
- 36:27I mean, so they you know, they they brought into big acts and
- 36:30that's two weeks ahead of watershed.
- 36:32Not and and I get a people are traveling from Seattle or
- 36:35Portland and all that for watershed, but I think it's just
- 36:37a combination. I think it's a combination of
- 36:40and the artist costs. I know I don't want to, I don't
- 36:43want to defend Kid Rock on anything, but Kid Rock was just
- 36:46in front of Congress talking about somehow trying to get a
- 36:49rein in on ticket prices. So because, because when we
- 36:53brought in years ago when we brought in like Brad Paisley,
- 36:57yeah, it was $50,000. This is back in the the I was
- 37:01going. To say this is like 15 years ago
- 37:03wasn't. It right right, but but you have
- 37:05to remember that to do the whole back line that's another $50,000
- 37:10people don't realize it's not just the artist that you're
- 37:12paying for you know all the. Stage.
- 37:14It's the lighting. It's everything, Everything that
- 37:16was. $50,000 So it's always, it's always double, you know.
- 37:19So if you're bringing in $1,000,000 ACT, well, it's going
- 37:22to be $1,000,000 on the other side to draw the equipment and
- 37:26stuff. Right.
- 37:27So, right, employees that you need to have and you know, yeah.
- 37:31It'll yeah, let's go on and on. So, so yeah, I think, you know,
- 37:34I, I think I'm hoping it'll be back.
- 37:36I mean, maybe you know, but but you never know at these that at
- 37:39the current price of things. Yeah, I mean, my husband runs a
- 37:42casino and they have entertainment and he always
- 37:45jokes about the casino pricing because they artists like to
- 37:48Jack up the price for casinos because they know they'll pay.
- 37:51It so so that so that you make an interesting conversation and
- 37:57so many years ago when casino started coming on big.
- 38:01So back in the day you could get Eddie Money or I think she's
- 38:05behind me. Dina Carter, Dina Carter.
- 38:08So Dina Carter when I was in Bakersfield cost like $20,000.
- 38:11You could get her for a concert back in the day.
- 38:14And So what happened was I and I, so I got to go backstage,
- 38:18talk to a lot of artists and they said we're, we're.
- 38:21And so they don't want to do radio shows.
- 38:24They don't want to do any of that anymore because they can go
- 38:26make 60 thousand $80,000 because casinos again.
- 38:30And you already, I don't know about your husband's casino, but
- 38:33they just want to get people in there.
- 38:36So. So they're willing to take a hit
- 38:37on the the entertainment. Because people are going to
- 38:40come. Some of them, I think the larger
- 38:44ones can afford to do that, but some of the smaller casinos
- 38:47certainly can't. And your husband?
- 38:50Is it a smaller one? It's probably like.
- 38:53Mid size. Mid size, yeah.
- 38:55So I mean, what's sometimes, what's an act that he brings in?
- 38:59What do you think? What do you think the biggest
- 39:00act he brought in or has brought in?
- 39:03Biggest they've had Old Dominion now keep in mind their indoor
- 39:07facility can at Max see 2000 people.
- 39:11So, OK, so it's a good one. No Old Dominion is a good.
- 39:14One, yeah, they got Old Dominion.
- 39:15I mean like recently when they're like super hot.
- 39:18And that's only, I think, partly because his entertainment buyer
- 39:22guy has so many connections, right?
- 39:24That Old Dominion was routed through, and they called up
- 39:28Harold. That's an.
- 39:29OK, Yeah, Old Dominion has a day.
- 39:33It's who you know also. Yeah, and.
- 39:36You make a good point about, yeah.
- 39:38And Harold jumped on it and they and once Old Dominion played
- 39:42there. Now they they asked to come back
- 39:44now like they want to. They played there since then
- 39:47they get. Old Dominion in tri-cities all
- 39:49the time and and because it's it that the seating's what, 6004 to
- 39:526000 people here. But you make a good point and a
- 39:56lot of people don't realize it's about rowdy.
- 39:57So a great example. Chris Stapleton coming to the
- 39:59Gorge. Zach Top is on some of his
- 40:02shows. So so Zach Top will book shows.
- 40:05Around right, these big, these big tours, that's why that's why
- 40:09like you said, that's why you're able to pick up some artists
- 40:11sometime or why you see somebody.
- 40:12Yeah. So it's absolutely it's actually
- 40:15absolutely fascinating. But but casinos, I want to say,
- 40:18is probably the number one reason and not just like like
- 40:21Jay's casino. I'm talking the big ones, yeah.
- 40:24You know, I think they certainly haven't helped and they've made
- 40:27it worse. And I think then COVID hit and
- 40:30then in just, it's just kind of snowballed from there.
- 40:33It's just gotten worse and for everyone involved, it's just
- 40:37more expensive. Like you said, having the
- 40:39staging and the lighting, all that is more expensive now too.
- 40:43So yeah, people don't realize any of that.
- 40:45It was, I think it's interesting for the Central Washington State
- 40:48Fair they have to cover. So in tri-cities we have to
- 40:51cover 5 days. So last year we had Daughtry, we
- 40:54had Jake Owen. I mean you have still I'd say, B
- 40:57artists and pretty good, you know, C plus to B artists.
- 41:01Right. And so there's a fair.
- 41:02You said not to have. Anything.
- 41:04Yeah, they they didn't even have.
- 41:06Would they have the year before? Like tribute bands.
- 41:08Yeah, nothing but tribute bands because and I understood because
- 41:11they're going out there trying to get Daughtry or Jake Owen and
- 41:13even those are now 100 to to 125 to 150, the prices if they just
- 41:19priced themselves out and and the fair there has to has to
- 41:23fill 10 days. Yeah.
- 41:25So and I remember people being so mad a down and blow in the
- 41:29comments like, you know, and I'm like, I'm like, it's a so they
- 41:32so interesting. They pay $12.00 to get in.
- 41:35And I'm not saying that's a great price.
- 41:36You pay $12.00 to get, you pay $12.00 to get into the fair and
- 41:39then you expect to see Garth Brooks.
- 41:42I mean, I'm saying on their way up or you know, but, but I think
- 41:47people, I think people's attitudes are real shitty of
- 41:50what, of what is owed. No.
- 41:52What is owed them what they think is owed them.
- 41:54What they expect their dollar again, this is this COVID has
- 42:00made everything more expensive. We all see that we all are
- 42:02living it now and that accounts for everything.
- 42:06And people just think that, oh, I should get this deal or you
- 42:11should. I should have to pay less or I
- 42:13should have to say pay the same price as before COVID or 10
- 42:17years ago. And it's like everything is
- 42:19going up. Like it's not going to stay the
- 42:21same price for 10 years for God's sakes.
- 42:23But they reminisce about about stupid good shit, so great
- 42:27example I used. To cost a nickel.
- 42:29So I went down to the Walla Walla fair fair in Frontier days
- 42:33and I and I got to introduce Chicago, which is one of my
- 42:35favorite all time bands, as you know.
- 42:37So Greg Lybeck used to be at the fair in Yakima, is now their
- 42:41general manager down in Walla Walla and they needed somebody
- 42:45to come in introduce Chicago. You know, I'm a huge Chicago
- 42:47fan. It was like highlight for me.
- 42:50Well, anyway, the night before free concert was Laney Wilson.
- 42:54He had booked Laney for $7000 before she had the hits, and
- 42:59then she still honored the dates.
- 43:02Once the hit started, she honored the day.
- 43:04Everybody got to see a free show, but the people who got to
- 43:07see her free, if she comes back and they have to pay $200 for a
- 43:10ticket, the other one's. Bitching.
- 43:12They're habitual. She was free last time.
- 43:14It's the circumstances of why she was free that happened.
- 43:17For my husband's casino with Megan Mulrainy or whatever her
- 43:20name is, such an artist. Yeah, before her.
- 43:23They had her booked before her big hit and she's still honored
- 43:28the date that she had sold with them even though she had like
- 43:32skyrocketed and so. Yeah, now she's playing Climate
- 43:35Pledge. I mean, so Megan Maroney, Patty
- 43:37loves Megan Maroney, so we're playing on on court and yeah,
- 43:40she's fantastic. But that's that same story story
- 43:42is that and so you're lucky. You should be appreciative and
- 43:45lucky that you get to see a certain artist before they
- 43:48because once and and like we I mean, I think we saw big and
- 43:51rich in the gorge right before save a horse, ride a cowboy and
- 43:54then that blue. I mean, you know, so and, and to
- 43:57think that you're going to see them again now, now that they're
- 43:59huge is like, but people are entitled.
- 44:03They it's the most ridiculous. I do like ticketmasters doing
- 44:06the all in ticket price. I finally thank God for that,
- 44:09you know, so it's like, Hey, if it's going to cost me 125, it's
- 44:12going to whatever it's going to cost.
- 44:13Me at least say I want to know, right?
- 44:14I don't want to get to check out and see all $50.00 worth of
- 44:19extra fees that I'm going. Just tell me what?
- 44:21Yeah, I'm with you. Just tell me what it's going to
- 44:23cost. Yeah, yeah.
- 44:25So. There you go.
- 44:26That's my little watershed. What was going on with?
- 44:27Water thank. You long, long way around it,
- 44:29but I think there was a lot of good, but there was a lot of
- 44:31good information about behind the scenes stuff that people
- 44:34don't realize that that even that we deal with in radio and
- 44:37and booking acts. I mean, we could get soul on
- 44:39here to talk about booking acts and all, you know, the different
- 44:42things that when everybody's like, well, why don't they come
- 44:44to town? Well, it's a lot more than just
- 44:46Why don't they come to town? Yeah, it's a lot more
- 44:48complicated than everybody realizes.
- 44:50Yeah. And, and someone was griping
- 44:52about the Sun Dome not getting any great acts or anything like
- 44:54that. And so they saw that.
- 44:56What Nate, whatever his name, is bargain.
- 44:59Bug eyes. Yeah, yeah.
- 45:02And it did. Well, I I I know it's the.
- 45:04Name of his tour isn't it like but.
- 45:06Yeah, something with the bug eyes, not with the eyes, but but
- 45:09yeah, it did very well. So, but but again, doing
- 45:12comedians, you know, like like Trevor Noah or doing, you know,
- 45:18it's just different because the the production.
- 45:20Cost so comedians that haven't done well remember George Lopez
- 45:23like was at the sun Dome. It didn't even fill half of it
- 45:27and so. Yeah, I think it depends.
- 45:29So but but that but in terms of cost for a show of that, it's
- 45:32different than, you know, than trying to bring a musical act
- 45:35that's got all the music that they need, all the instruments.
- 45:37Well, even some comedians I know Joe Coy.
- 45:42I love Joe Cole. Yeah.
- 45:43Yeah, I saw him at Legends, but he was routed through and even
- 45:47again, which means that he had was already in Seattle and they
- 45:51were able to pick him up because he's on his way to the next
- 45:54whatever venue and they still paid 250,000 for him.
- 46:01For legends did. Yeah.
- 46:02And that's that's him being routed through.
- 46:04So I can't imagine like a stand. Alone day, right?
- 46:08So yeah, that's my little insight info.
- 46:11Hopefully I don't get in. Trouble.
- 46:12So about you, Michelle. I'm at a point in my career or
- 46:15my life where it's like I will pay to go see somebody, but I
- 46:17have to really want to see them. Me too, so I think I got so
- 46:21spoiled with getting free tickets.
- 46:23Well, yeah. Being greets that now again it
- 46:26has to be someone I really really want to see them or my
- 46:30thing now is I need to see them before they die.
- 46:34Yeah, I think 1. That I like.
- 46:35Those are my favorite. Those are my favorite acts and
- 46:37artists usually being from the 80s and stuff.
- 46:40But but even from a radio standpoint, it's like, it's not
- 46:43like we don't get a big old stack of tickets anymore and we
- 46:45don't, you know, and so and it and it isn't and it isn't and it
- 46:49isn't easy access to the artist either.
- 46:51If it doesn't, they just don't go, oh, here, you know, here's
- 46:5410 backstage passes to go meet jerks.
- 46:56Bentley doesn't happen that way anymore.
- 46:58You, you got to be #1 you got to be a reporter.
- 47:00And those days for markets like Yakima and Tri-City, those are
- 47:04all those now. Now they're even done that.
- 47:05Now we're not even rated. So it's even even.
- 47:08Worse. Yeah, you might be able to get
- 47:11them if they're at a venue in your town.
- 47:14You could probably get a backstage meet and greet if your
- 47:16station's one of the presenting stations or welcoming stations.
- 47:19So yeah, it's a lot more. It's a lot, It's a lot.
- 47:21It's a lot tougher than it used to be.
- 47:22OK, well, we're still on the subject of entertainers.
- 47:27Guess guess who's hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend
- 47:31is. It one of your favorites?
- 47:33Is it Alexander Skarsgard? I, I almost went, I almost went
- 47:41with Taylor Swift, but I'm like, no, I can't.
- 47:43Well, Pedro Pascal's already like hosted what, twice now,
- 47:46right? But yes, I saw with the.
- 47:49OG go with the OG go with the OG.
- 47:53I saw you know how they do like the little post it whatever it
- 47:57is so that it has written has like the day and then artist and
- 48:00the musical artist. And I saw January 31st and I saw
- 48:03Alex's name and I went. Oh man, you're so funny.
- 48:07So. Funny.
- 48:08Oh my God, I can't wait. Like he's gonna, he's gonna,
- 48:11he's gonna do great. So are you gonna watch it?
- 48:14Do you now? Do you watch it live or just
- 48:15wait till it comes out on YouTube the next morning?
- 48:17I will watch it live and I will watch it OK, so it will play at
- 48:228:30. Oh wow.
- 48:25On Spectrum, so I'll get to watch it at 8:30 and then again
- 48:29at 11:30. So you know I'm watching it both
- 48:31times. You know I am.
- 48:34And the YouTube video later. Yes, yeah, yes, definitely.
- 48:38So excited for this. This is fabulous.
- 48:40He's funny. He's a good sense of humor.
- 48:43Does he have a goofy coming out is why he's on there?
- 48:45He had one that came out. I think it was part of the Sun
- 48:48Nuts Film Festival. OK, OK.
- 48:52So we just. When you get invited, you're
- 48:53pimping something, yeah. So I'm gonna choke.
- 48:57You're so. Excited.
- 48:58Getting all choked up. That will not be on my calendar
- 49:05to watch so, but hey, you'll knock yourself out.
- 49:08OK, well, I'll give you all the bit by bit.
- 49:12Minute by minute details next. Week.
- 49:14Yeah, yes, I will painfully make you sit through that now since
- 49:19you're not going to watch it. But yeah, I just had to mention
- 49:22that because I thought you, you know, it's me.
- 49:24Oh yes, Marking it down on my calendar right now.
- 49:26Oh yeah, I'm going to be there. I'm going to be there.
- 49:28That's how I will that I will be.
- 49:30I'm staying up till 11:00. What?
- 49:33Not these days? You can watch it at 8:00, I just
- 49:36said. Well, not on spectrum.
- 49:39But still, you could probably find it somewhere.
- 49:41Probably. Yeah, so the nice thing about
- 49:43YouTube is they put it out early, so.
- 49:46That's yeah, yeah. Or or other places put it out
- 49:49early. OK.
- 49:51Well, I want to talk about the Southwest Airlines things.
- 49:53Where? Yes.
- 49:55We're I know we're about to run out of time, so.
- 49:57All right, let's this last topic and.
- 50:00Yeah. So they have their, yeah, so
- 50:02they have, they've implemented a couple new policies like 1 was
- 50:05the open seat policy, but they also changed their plus size
- 50:11customer policy as well. And both of those things went
- 50:14into effect this week. I kind of read a little bit
- 50:17about it, Hopefully I'm not getting anything wrong.
- 50:21Kind of going off of memory but customers of size who are
- 50:29encroaching upon their neighboring seats previously
- 50:34could either pay before for the extra seat and then later
- 50:40received the refund if they didn't need it.
- 50:42And then if they showed up at the airport and had pre bought 1
- 50:47they could get one for free. And southwest is changing that
- 50:51where now they want them to pre buy the ticket.
- 50:54And even if they get to the airport and they haven't pre
- 50:57bought the ticket, they have to pay for the ticket now and they
- 51:00don't get one for free when they just show up.
- 51:03And they will only be refunded for certain things not
- 51:07everything. I do remember that much.
- 51:10I'm trying to think what the other, what some of the other
- 51:13stipulations in that were there was something else.
- 51:17Shoot, I'm trying to remember. Oh, if the plane is full, that's
- 51:22what it is. So if they don't, yeah, if they
- 51:25don't pre buy their ticket. If they don't pre buy the extra
- 51:28ticket, they get to the airport and they need another ticket,
- 51:31but that flight is booked, then they will be bumped and booked
- 51:36on the next available flight or whatever it is and they have to
- 51:39buy that other ticket. So some people are having some
- 51:43issues with this. As someone who has had to sit in
- 51:46the middle seat of an airplane multiple times and had people on
- 51:51either side of me encroaching on me in the middle seat, I I
- 51:55understand why they this has to be done.
- 51:58Also people who are flying this is an unwritten rule.
- 52:01Listen to me. The person in the middle seat
- 52:03gets both the God damn armrest. I'm so this is this is this is
- 52:08flying airplane unwritten rule etiquette.
- 52:12The person the little seat gets the armrest.
- 52:14OK, that's my that's my little tyrant about that so.
- 52:18Yeah, So what what you were just talking about?
- 52:20So Yep, passengers needing extra space can purchase an additional
- 52:23seat. If you cannot lower both
- 52:25armrests which define the seats boundary, you may need a second
- 52:28seat. So that is the definition I was.
- 52:31I couldn't find I. You've got to be able to lower
- 52:34both this. Yep, you've got to be able to
- 52:35lower both armrests and passengers unable to fit in one
- 52:38seat may be asked to rebook on a different flight if one is not
- 52:42available and and extensions can be asked for.
- 52:46But yes, but a £300 person says here can a can a 300 LB person
- 52:51fit in an airline seat? Yes, a £300 person can often
- 52:54often fit in a standard airline seat.
- 52:57So we're talking the severely obese.
- 53:00Like 3 plus or? Well, yeah, and it says, but it
- 53:03depends on body shake, Body shake.
- 53:04That's what I was going to say. It depends on where you are
- 53:07carrying all that weight. Yeah, it everybody carries
- 53:11weight different. Great.
- 53:12If you're carrying it right in that in this middle area where
- 53:15the armrests are going to come down, then you're screwed
- 53:18because you're going to they're not going to be able to fully
- 53:23fit. I think I, I, I don't, I don't
- 53:26want to speak out of turn not being a heavy heavier person,
- 53:30but I think that my foster mom taught me not to be rude.
- 53:34So if I knew I was incredibly obese, why would I not buy two
- 53:37seats, right? I think that, I think that's
- 53:40just, I think that's self-awareness, self-awareness
- 53:42about yourself. I know it's sad, it's sad
- 53:45situation, but I think you have to be self aware enough to know
- 53:48that. Same thing as taking a shower
- 53:50before you go on an airplane flight or anything I think.
- 53:53That and don't remove your shoes and socks.
- 53:55That's the other unwritten rule on an airplane.
- 53:58People stop doing that. Stop it.
- 54:00But but your budget airline is going to have a narrower narrow
- 54:04seat. Narrower.
- 54:04I was going to say, certain airlines have different sized
- 54:09seats even like business. So we have first class, business
- 54:13class and then economy, whatever you want to call it.
- 54:16And all the airlines basically have these tiers now because
- 54:19they're charging extra. If you want to sit in business
- 54:21class, it's a little bit more and but you get a little bit the
- 54:23seats a little bit bigger and you get a little a little bit
- 54:25more leg room. And then you do an economy.
- 54:29And it's kind of that middle ground in between economy and
- 54:321st class. A lot of people times people
- 54:34can't afford first class pretty expensive.
- 54:37So yeah, it depends on where you're, what seat you're sitting
- 54:39in. There's just a lot of factors.
- 54:43I personally, I as someone who, especially as a female, think
- 54:48about certain aspects of your body and you're like you like
- 54:52you're feel bad about it, you feel whatever it is down on
- 54:55yourself, ashamed of yourself. And so I sympathize in that
- 54:59regards that it's just I would hate to be that person that gets
- 55:06body shaved at the airport basically in front of everyone
- 55:10else. Like that would be horrible.
- 55:13I think it's AI think it's I think it's it's hard.
- 55:17I think, I mean, what do you do in that?
- 55:19What do you do in that situation?
- 55:20I mean, yeah, you don't, you don't want to have you don't
- 55:24want to have to be that person. But it's one of those things
- 55:27where but you, I mean, yeah, there's a big group.
- 55:31There's a big group, you know, you know that that they're yeah,
- 55:35customer of size policy is what they're calling it.
- 55:38Customer of size is the policy and and requires plus sized
- 55:42passengers who cannot fly entirely within one seat to
- 55:44purchase the second one. That's regardless of whether the
- 55:47seat next to them is empty. Now I'm kind of in the boat.
- 55:50If the seat is empty next to them, I don't think they should
- 55:52have to. You know, if they're on a flight
- 55:54where it's empty next to them, I don't think they should have to
- 55:56pay the extra there. Right, but Southwest is
- 55:58notorious for over booking their flights.
- 56:01I have never. Bumped flights do.
- 56:03Yep, they do. Southwest is the I think one of
- 56:06the worst though that does this. And so the chances that there's
- 56:10going to be an open seat are probably pretty slim on a
- 56:12Southwest flight, just from my experience flying on them.
- 56:17So, but I understand, you know how they, if you got to the
- 56:20airport and they had a you could purchase your extra, well, not
- 56:24really purchase, you could get another seat for free, which I
- 56:27understand they can't just be giving away these seats and they
- 56:31have just, they have to charge people.
- 56:33So I I get that aspect of it. So yeah.
- 56:37Yeah, they're, they're the other people.
- 56:39People are quite. Kevin Smith got booted from a
- 56:43flight because he didn't buy a second seat.
- 56:45Remember when he was super heavy?
- 56:46He did. Yep, he got booted.
- 56:49Yep, back in 2010. Oh my gosh.
- 56:51He call he calls the airline S worst S worst.
- 56:57I think that's AI think, you know, I I think that's hard.
- 57:03Now before this change, it says here they were the airline of
- 57:07the fat community, the number one airline that heavy people
- 57:10flew with them. So they have a history of being
- 57:16of, of being extra generous right in this in this situation.
- 57:20Where they could get the extra seat for free when they got to
- 57:23the airport, right? You know, if they needed.
- 57:25It and now they've changed that. Yeah, they've.
- 57:28Changed that, but I mean, yeah, 1 gal says, who described
- 57:32herself as disabled and super fat, said the changes are
- 57:36preventing her from kidding to fly on the the airlines.
- 57:39You don't want to discriminate right now, so you don't want to
- 57:42discriminate, but what do you do in that situation?
- 57:44Right. You know, it's a it comes down
- 57:46to money, to business decisions of.
- 57:48Course, of course. Yeah.
- 57:51Of course. So I'm curious what's going to
- 57:52what this is going to be made of.
- 57:54You know, says here Southwest was one of the last fold outs.
- 57:58Yeah. I was going to say, I don't know
- 57:59of any other airline. Yeah, that was doing what
- 58:02they're doing so. Yeah, so they so so for years
- 58:05they allowed it and now they're saying, no, you know, we can't
- 58:07do it anymore. But I, I think this all comes
- 58:11to, I really believe this all comes to self-awareness about
- 58:15knowing yourself well enough to know that, hey, and that's not
- 58:19a, that's not a slam. It's one of those things where
- 58:21if you know you're going to inconvenience that the person
- 58:23next to you, you should take every, you know, precaution to
- 58:26make sure you don't. And I think it is in the same
- 58:29realm as so, you know, the people that would book a seat
- 58:33and then book their child sitting someone somewhere else.
- 58:36And then when they get on the plane, they expect the person
- 58:40sitting next to their child to move with them.
- 58:42It's it's in, you know it. You can't expect that from
- 58:46people like someone else has paid for their ticket and
- 58:49purchased it. It is not their fault that you
- 58:52didn't book a ticket next to your child, whatever it is.
- 58:55I mean, that is not on them. And people just assume that you
- 58:59will like you will change seats or whatever it is.
- 59:03And it's like, no. I think that's, I think, yeah, I
- 59:06think that's entitlement. I don't, I'm not into that.
- 59:08I know when we went to Disneyland one year, we booked
- 59:11all three seats next to each Logan Pokey and I were all
- 59:14together. Anytime I've ever flown, I've
- 59:16been next to the person I'm supposed to.
- 59:17I've never been separated, separated from from the person
- 59:21I'm supposed to be with. And and if you're doing it to
- 59:22save money or doing some crazy thing, that's entitlement.
- 59:25I don't agree with that. You know, you're not all hey,
- 59:29I'm a big this will drive people nuts.
- 59:31I'm a big window person. I like the window.
- 59:35I like the window. So whenever I book my ticket, I
- 59:37I damn well try to get near the window.
- 59:39And then if I don't get the window, I want to be the aisle.
- 59:42Yes, I don't want to be in the middle.
- 59:43No, no, again, I've had to sit in the middle when you know
- 59:47there's no other when you're buying your ticket.
- 59:49That's a for this flight that those are the only seats left
- 59:52because nobody wants to sit in them.
- 59:53It's like if I want to be on this flight, I have to have this
- 59:56seat. But yes, I'm definitely, I'm a
- 59:57window person. I like to have control over the
- 59:59shade and I like to and I like to sleep up against the side of
- 1:00:04the plane, so. Yeah, 99% of the time when I've
- 1:00:08flown and then I sing nowadays, just like a movie theater, you
- 1:00:11can see your seats. Yeah.
- 1:00:12Yeah. So, so it's like, yeah, so I
- 1:00:14mean, if I had to fly Cinder, sure, if I had to sign aisle,
- 1:00:16but I always try to get the window if I can.
- 1:00:18I'd rather, I'd rather be on the window seat in the very back of
- 1:00:21the plane. I mean, wherever the window seat
- 1:00:23is open, I don't have any preference.
- 1:00:24If I'm in the middle. I don't like being at the.
- 1:00:26I don't like being on the emergency doors though.
- 1:00:29Oh, don't depend on me to. Save your life.
- 1:00:31You're, I know I, yeah, I'm always like, like, yeah, you get
- 1:00:35extra leg room. But I was like, I don't want to
- 1:00:37have to be that person. Not that it's never going to
- 1:00:40happen, but but it's like, yeah, I don't want that
- 1:00:42responsibility. You usually won't live anyway.
- 1:00:44But well, in my mind, I'm like, I'm important.
- 1:00:47So I'm, I'm helping out first. I'm not helping all these people
- 1:00:51out. Well, I'll be curious.
- 1:00:52We'll be watching this policy in the future.
- 1:00:54But it's a sad it's a sad one. But I think the message is you
- 1:00:57got to be self aware enough to know yourself.
- 1:01:00But they set up to 300 lbs. So that's still good size.
- 1:01:03That's double, that's double me. I'm I'm not giving that as an
- 1:01:07example. I'm just.
- 1:01:08Saying that's almost double me. That's yeah, not quite.
- 1:01:12I weigh a little bit more. Well, I weigh like 10 lbs more
- 1:01:18than 150. So we're close to the same.
- 1:01:21I weigh 165. 165 Ideally I should be like 150.
- 1:01:28Oh yeah. You know, same.
- 1:01:30Here, same here should be I should probably be 140.
- 1:01:33I'd be a person with a big head and a small body, technically,
- 1:01:36if I was going by what I'm supposed to be.
- 1:01:38That's why that's why all actors have.
- 1:01:40That's why all act. That's why actors all have big
- 1:01:42heads and small bodies. What's that?
- 1:01:44I say, what do you mean you're supposed to be That's, that's
- 1:01:46how you look now. I know.
- 1:01:48Yeah. But it's big.
- 1:01:49Big head, small body. Big head, small body.
- 1:01:54That's it for today's episode of Rick and That Michelle.
