- 0:18Speaker 1: So, last time we already talked about our holiday threat.
- 0:23Speaker 1: So I didn't want to do anything overly holiday-y, because
- 0:25Speaker 1: by the time no one's listening to this, it'll already be, well,
- 0:28Speaker 1: into January anyway. But the only tie-in I had of
- 0:31Speaker 1: ones that I've seen somewhat lately... How many pipers piping
- 0:36Speaker 1: are there? Do you remember?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Uh.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Eleven.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Eleven. You're right.
- 0:43Speaker 4: I was trying to go through this one.
- 0:45Speaker 1: So I recently came across a copy of The Piper.
- 0:49Speaker 4: Oh. Is this the documentary about Rowdy Roddy Piper?
- 0:53Speaker 2: I would watch that because that guy was pretty damn cool.
- 0:56Speaker 2: I shook his hand once.
- 1:00Speaker 1: He was dressed in a suit too. He was very
- 1:03Speaker 1: impressive for what he was doing.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Crazy man. Well, yeah. Watch the footage. Go on YouTube.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Type in Roddy Roddy Piper and a bottle and like
- 1:12Speaker 1: there's literally like the old days pre WWF he's doing
- 1:17Speaker 1: a rant to the camera takes a glass bottle smashes
- 1:20Speaker 1: it over his head blood is pouring out this wasn't
- 1:24Speaker 1: fake because you couldn't like they didn't have budget to
- 1:26Speaker 1: fake this well blood is pouring out of his forehead
- 1:29Speaker 1: and he's still ranting at the camera about how he's
- 1:32Speaker 1: gonna kick this guy's ass oh my god he's The
- 1:35Speaker 1: camera guy's like.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Back in the day, he was hardcore. I was really
- 1:39Speaker 2: hoping you.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Were going to tell me to look up Rowdy Roddy
- 1:42Speaker 4: Piper and Brian.
- 1:43Speaker 2: No, no, no. I just was in.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Someone was in line getting his autograph, and then as
- 1:52Speaker 1: he came through, he's like, oh, hey, nice to meet you.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And I was like, holy shit. This guy wearing a
- 1:56Speaker 2: suit just shook my hand. He's very well behaved as
- 2:00Speaker 2: a man who used to bust bottles over his head. But...
- 2:04Speaker 2: This is not that Piper, though I would gladly watch that.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Roddy Piper proves he can make a bottle of beer
- 2:10Speaker 4: disappear the fastest.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the same thing.
- 2:16Speaker 4: The thumbnail shows him.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Oops.
- 2:19Speaker 6: Is he chugging it?
- 2:21Speaker 5: No.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Oh.
- 2:23Speaker 2: It's a full bottle, too. I'm telling you, that's a
- 2:26Speaker 2: concussion and a bloodletting.
- 2:29Speaker 6: See?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Look at his face.
- 2:30Speaker 1: He just watched him bash a bottle over his head.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Tell me that's real, because it's real. He doesn't have
- 2:37Speaker 2: the budget to do fakery.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I mean.
- 2:39Speaker 2: He just smashed a bottle over his head.
- 2:42Speaker 4: That's some Steve-O shit.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I'm telling you. But at least Steve-O uses aluminum cans,
- 2:45Speaker 2: which are... That's what I'm saying. Which are softer. Oh
- 2:50Speaker 2: my God. He was an insane man, and impressive as
- 2:54Speaker 2: time went on. No one asked you to do that.
- 2:56Speaker 2: And look at him.
- 2:57Speaker 5: He's talking like, everything's fine.
- 3:00Speaker 2: He's ranting. I'm going to be out there and kick
- 3:03Speaker 2: your ass.
- 3:03Speaker 1: And he's just threatening someone else as blood pours out
- 3:06Speaker 1: of his head.
- 3:07Speaker 2: It's just like, that is a badass. That is a badass.
- 3:11Speaker 5: You hit me in the head with a glass bottle,
- 3:13Speaker 5: whether it breaks or not, and I'm going to start crying.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I'm down on the ground just sort of laying there going, okay,
- 3:18Speaker 2: I might die now.
- 3:19Speaker 5: The only thing I'm going to say is, what the hell?
- 3:22Speaker 5: But you're probably not going to understand it through my sobs.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But what you need to do is threaten someone else
- 3:29Speaker 2: at that point.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Oh my God, there's more than one version of this.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Oh, I'm sure. It was, again, this is the kind
- 3:35Speaker 2: of crazy shit he did back in the day.
- 3:38Speaker 5: I mean, and the thing that I can't tell if
- 3:41Speaker 5: this makes it better or worse is that he takes
- 3:44Speaker 5: a couple seconds to psych himself up first.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Like he's huffing and puffing. Like he knows this is
- 3:49Speaker 2: how it goes.
- 3:49Speaker 6: He does this. No one's asking you to do this.
- 3:52Speaker 2: He's asking me.
- 3:53Speaker 1: He set the bar and he delivered to himself. I
- 3:57Speaker 1: can break this bottle over my head.
- 3:59Speaker 5: Oh my God.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So a certain level this movie pales in comparison because
- 4:06Speaker 1: it is a gruesome retelling of the legendary brothers grim classic.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I was starting to wonder how we got on running.
- 4:13Speaker 1: In the korean war after the korean war a flute
- 4:17Speaker 1: playing wanderer and his son arrived to a peaceful and
- 4:20Speaker 1: remote village where he makes a deal with the chief
- 4:23Speaker 1: is there a chief in korea A chief to eradicate
- 4:27Speaker 1: the uncontrollable rat infestation. Using his mystical flute, he wipes
- 4:35Speaker 1: the rats away from the village, only to be paid
- 4:37Speaker 1: with greed, corruption, and betrayal.
- 4:40Speaker 4: You know, that new Jethro Tull concept album is strange.
- 4:45Speaker 2: A lot of Korean influences.
- 4:47Speaker 6: Believe it or not, I've read about this movie before
- 4:49Speaker 6: and I do want.
- 4:50Speaker 2: To watch it. You're such a horror nerd. Put it
- 4:53Speaker 2: on the list.
- 4:55Speaker 6: Korean horror is so good.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So if you want us to get into that and
- 5:00Speaker 1: or continually watch it on a loop as Rowdy Runny
- 5:03Speaker 1: Piper smashes a bottle over his head.
- 5:06Speaker 6: You guys watch that. I'll watch the Korean movie.
- 5:09Speaker 2: I mean, I'll watch that one too, but.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I was more impressed with Roddy Piper when I saw,
- 5:14Speaker 1: because it was only like in the last few years.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Like, I remember him from back in the day, but
- 5:19Speaker 2: I don't remember that.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Because I think that was so early on I wasn't
- 5:21Speaker 1: paying attention even as a kid. But, yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Well, by the time we were watching wrestling, it was
- 5:26Speaker 4: sanitized for children.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It had already been like Saturday morning cartoon stuff, and
- 5:31Speaker 1: that's why Hogan became the big hero because he was
- 5:34Speaker 1: the good guy in quotes because he's not.
- 5:38Speaker 2: As life goes on, he's not.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So, yeah.
- 5:43Speaker 2: He had to.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Steal Ozzy's thunder by dying at the same time.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 1: What a jerk. So, we say a lot of weird things,
- 5:55Speaker 1: as you've just heard. But we say other things on
- 5:57Speaker 1: the episode that you could be listening to that are
- 6:00Speaker 1: kind of like this.
- 6:02Speaker 5: No, you handcuff that child to your wrist like a
- 6:06Speaker 5: goddamn nuclear bomb coat.
- 6:08Speaker 6: It was the 90s. We had the leash backpacks.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Leashes were fine for children.
- 6:15Speaker 6: And then having just like a bowl of dates on.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Your cash register. That was maybe the creepiest thing in
- 6:22Speaker 2: this movie. Just an open bowl of dates.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Just an open bowl of dates that she then just
- 6:26Speaker 1: picks up and throws in her mouth.
- 6:27Speaker 2: And I was just like, gross? And then she like
- 6:31Speaker 2: spit the pit out. I'm like, this is why. Here,
- 6:32Speaker 2: let me take that from you. That's not gross as well.
- 6:36Speaker 2: All of these things are gross.
- 6:39Speaker 4: And that position did not look fun, sexy, or comfortable
- 6:42Speaker 4: at all.
- 6:42Speaker 1: They did jump right into that. And they were not like,
- 6:47Speaker 1: coy about it. Pierce and I both went, whoa! They
- 6:51Speaker 1: weren't like under the blankets like you usually start off
- 6:54Speaker 1: in one of those scenes.
- 6:55Speaker 2: They were up and around. And attached. Hey, what are
- 7:02Speaker 2: y'all doing over there?
- 7:02Speaker 5: Simply having a wonderful Christmas time.
- 7:08Speaker 2: So, Fred from Scooby-Doo is back. Oh, good for him.
- 7:11Speaker 4: I've been wondering what he's been up to.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, no spoilers, but you might get a little extra bonus.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Who said, let's put this guy in movies in the
- 7:20Speaker 4: first place?
- 7:22Speaker 3: Well, she gets the spaghetti. She drops her spaghetti. It
- 7:27Speaker 3: turns into a spiral of spaghetti. First, she looks at it.
- 7:31Speaker 3: It's a spiral. She drops it. It turns into a
- 7:33Speaker 3: hand of spaghetti. And then he calls her and is like,
- 7:36Speaker 3: are you coming over?
- 7:37Speaker 6: To meet my parents. And she's like, fine, yes. But
- 7:40Speaker 6: I'm like, you already made your spaghetti.
- 7:42Speaker 2: And she left the spaghetti on the floor. Now, granted,
- 7:44Speaker 2: all her food. Left the spaghetti on the floor.
- 7:46Speaker 5: All of her food and pretty much her whole apartment
- 7:49Speaker 5: full of roaches. But that's a whole other issue she
- 7:51Speaker 5: needs to address.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Probably because you're leaving your spaghetti on the floor.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Because what I said, spaghetti is the symbol of women's power.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Well, this movie clearly hates women.
- 8:05Speaker 3: I mean.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Clearly hates women. For a massively feminist movie, sort of
- 8:10Speaker 2: hates women.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know what they were trying to do here.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Again, I think we're back to the original movie. I
- 8:16Speaker 2: don't know that he had a point.
- 8:18Speaker 1: And this one he also co-written by, but really took
- 8:21Speaker 1: the story from another writer initially. So I think even
- 8:25Speaker 1: if there was a concept, it got lost in the shuffle.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And so, yeah, I don't know that this really has
- 8:31Speaker 1: much to say. It just throws out a lot of
- 8:33Speaker 1: feminist ideas. And then just doesn't really know how to
- 8:38Speaker 1: back them up or make good of them or have
- 8:41Speaker 1: actual feminine characters.
- 8:44Speaker 3: But it has my favorite horror movie line ever, which
- 8:47Speaker 3: is our main character has just like slept with this
- 8:50Speaker 3: girl that he has a crush on and she comes
- 8:52Speaker 3: back into the bedroom with coffee and she goes, do
- 8:55Speaker 3: you want some cream sugar or do you want me
- 8:57Speaker 3: to pee in it?
- 9:00Speaker 2: I don't feel comfortable anymore.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Treated like a completely normal thing that someone would say.
- 9:07Speaker 2: It's pretty straight face. She delivers that. And I'm like,
- 9:11Speaker 2: I don't think she's being funny.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Zero context.
- 9:15Speaker 2: If you opted for three, I think she would have
- 9:19Speaker 2: gone to town. It's like my favorite line.
- 9:23Speaker 4: You just put a whole bunch of dirty words together.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Those were all legitimate words. It's the name of a book.
- 9:29Speaker 2: and a phrase that you use about the title of
- 9:31Speaker 2: a book.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I know, and I applaud you for throwing it all
- 9:35Speaker 4: together so seamlessly.
- 9:37Speaker 5: There was one, I'm not going to get too graphic,
- 9:39Speaker 5: but there was one scene that like, is basically Jonathan
- 9:44Speaker 5: Harker's going off to Transylvania to meet Dracula, and his
- 9:49Speaker 5: wife Lucy is like, oh, let's say goodbye, and then
- 9:52Speaker 5: they get it on, and that makes sense. The rest
- 9:55Speaker 5: of them, it's just like, it'll be in the middle
- 9:57Speaker 5: of the scene, we'll have like, 45 seconds. of people
- 10:01Speaker 5: going at it and it cuts back to the scene
- 10:04Speaker 5: it was in before and i'm like it's.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Not very long it's not not to call them out
- 10:10Speaker 1: but i mean.
- 10:12Speaker 3: It is funny the hokey Christianity of it all. The
- 10:16Speaker 3: way they get into like, well, thank God we're Christian
- 10:20Speaker 3: and God saved us from these demons.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I feel like a lot of people go through life
- 10:24Speaker 2: like that.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Turns out that was their whole shtick.
- 10:25Speaker 5: There's some people that they're like, this is just their
- 10:28Speaker 5: way of spreading Catholicism.
- 10:32Speaker 3: And?
- 10:33Speaker 2: What a weirdo.
- 10:35Speaker 1: So I give it credit for like making good. Like
- 10:39Speaker 1: I feel like the whole thing is just a... I
- 10:43Speaker 1: bet I can make this movie. And then he made
- 10:45Speaker 1: that movie.
- 10:46Speaker 2: It delivers. It's not bad casting.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Even as a creepy, homicidal, homeless man, he's still just
- 10:54Speaker 4: adorable and charming in his way.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Creepy and adorable at the same time.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 2: He found a nice balance of creepy and adorable.
- 11:04Speaker 6: I guess. Also, her journey takes place over two days.
- 11:10Speaker 2: What are we talking about? But it's a spiritual journey.
- 11:12Speaker 4: That's more of a brisk hike.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 6: Like, she meets them, and then the second day is
- 11:17Speaker 6: the entire thing.
- 11:19Speaker 2: She meets them, Maude Adams is creepy, continues to be creepy. Later,
- 11:24Speaker 2: you were right, she's creepy, and then it's over. Yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 1: You get to, like, that era was one of those
- 11:31Speaker 1: where now it's just another movie that they slapped a
- 11:34Speaker 1: title on that matches this other series and has nothing
- 11:37Speaker 1: to do with.
- 11:38Speaker 2: The previous movies. kind of the series as a whole. Like,
- 11:41Speaker 2: it's another one of those, if you watch, here's a challenge.
- 11:46Speaker 5: How big of a dork are you that you went
- 11:48Speaker 5: to a women's college and that never happened?
- 11:51Speaker 2: I know.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Making out at a picnic never happened.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I feel like they should take your diploma back.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Use it to say, well, that means this. And I'm like,
- 12:01Speaker 1: nobody asked you. Just go on about your business before
- 12:03Speaker 1: this ghost eats you.
- 12:06Speaker 2: It was a very special episode.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Very special two-part episode. Thank you very much.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Poor Dudley.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Which I watched in the past five years just to
- 12:14Speaker 4: see if it was as bad as I remembered.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It was worse.
- 12:16Speaker 2: I remember it from the first time.
- 12:18Speaker 4: It was creepier than I remembered it when I was
- 12:20Speaker 4: a little kid.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Sometimes you gotta fix your bike. I mean, yeah.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Well, how else are you gonna get a free radio
- 12:25Speaker 4: for your bike?
- 12:26Speaker 1: Oh, God.
- 12:26Speaker 2: That's how it all started.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I think it was more of Ebenezer Scrooge's vagina.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Yeah, the knight shirt. I got there and I was like, what?
- 12:37Speaker 1: Charles Dickens' knight shirt are you wearing?
- 12:41Speaker 2: But it doesn't even.
- 12:42Speaker 4: Come down to his knees like a proper Scrooge.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I know.
- 12:45Speaker 1: That's why I was like, this is not even done right.
- 12:47Speaker 1: This movie. That we start getting the creatures that I
- 12:53Speaker 1: then specifically questioned.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Is this naked lunch? Because.
- 12:57Speaker 1: There's a lot of giant ass cockroaches in this movie.
- 13:00Speaker 4: I was thinking more Franz Kafka with metamorphosis.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Which is all kind of the same world.
- 13:06Speaker 4: I stumbled upon a half-assed theory that my girlfriend was like,
- 13:10Speaker 4: I hate to admit it, but you're probably right. I
- 13:13Speaker 4: think the director was a fan of Franz Kafka. And
- 13:17Speaker 4: this is his way of saying, this is Kim's metamorphosis.
- 13:22Speaker 4: So we're going to put these giant bugs everywhere.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I think he's just on acid. Hey, wait. Weren't you
- 13:31Speaker 2: in that other movie? Joe Don Baker, I'm talking to you.
- 13:36Speaker 2: That's the other thing, because that was all the same day.
- 13:38Speaker 6: The entire second half all takes place in the same day.
- 13:40Speaker 6: There's so much. So was it like 9 a.m. that
- 13:42Speaker 6: they're doing this picnic?
- 13:43Speaker 2: Because that was my thing.
- 13:44Speaker 1: I was like, sure, let's get drunk on wine in
- 13:46Speaker 1: the park in the middle of the day.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I see no problem with that. You guys are cool.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I can't say I've never done that.
- 13:55Speaker 6: But to then have a full day of other things
- 13:57Speaker 6: that you've got to go do.
- 13:58Speaker 5: I guess.
- 13:59Speaker 3: If I'm doing that, then I have no plans. I'd
- 14:02Speaker 3: go home and take a nap. Well, then we get
- 14:06Speaker 3: a weird, gross orgy.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Which again, if you've seen the previous movie. Is it
- 14:11Speaker 2: really that weird?
- 14:12Speaker 1: Again, the reason I was most creeped out was like,
- 14:16Speaker 1: that is no place to put an oriental rug.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Well, yeah, she offers her a bug. She drinks the
- 14:22Speaker 2: tea and eats a bug.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I can confidently and assuredly say, I don't care.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I just want this movie to be over with. And
- 14:32Speaker 2: neither did the writers of this movie.
- 14:36Speaker 4: And more so sometimes.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Way more so.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Sometimes we rant for like an hour and a half
- 14:42Speaker 1: before we even start the episode.
- 14:43Speaker 2: So, you know, who knows?
- 14:45Speaker 4: That's just us stalling so we don't have to talk
- 14:48Speaker 4: about whatever we've watched.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Sometimes that's true.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Sometimes.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Depends on the movie.
- 14:52Speaker 1: But if you want to give us one of those movies,
- 14:54Speaker 1: go to MovieMeltdown.com, click on the banner on the right-hand
- 14:58Speaker 1: side there, join the Horror Club.
- 15:00Speaker 2: And you can give us a movie like The Piper or.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I'm sure there's some sort of wrestling documentary that.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Some of us will think are horror.
- 15:09Speaker 1: So, I don't know.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Give us something to watch.
- 15:12Speaker 1: But in the meantime, we're going to be talking about
- 15:14Speaker 1: something crazy. Tsuru na sa.
