- 0:06Following Jesus isn't about having all the answers. It's about trusting God one step at a time.
- 0:12Welcome to Following Jesus in Real Life, a special series from Have Faith,
- 0:16Let It Begin. My name is Angel.
- 0:18Together, we'll have an honest conversation about faith, doubt,
- 0:23hope, grace, and what truly matters and what truly means to follow Christ,
- 0:29not just on Sundays, but every single day.
- 0:32So let's walk this journey together. Have faith, let it begin. Starts right now.
- 0:44Let's have faith, let it begin. This is Ariel Santana.
- 0:48Can you believe I'm seven years old already? I'm old enough now to introduce my dad.
- 0:53Ladies and gentlemen, your host, my dad, Angel Santana.
- 1:34Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 1:37I'm Angel Santana. Have you ever prayed?
- 1:41God, if you're trying to tell me something, I just wish you'd make it a little clearer.
- 1:49Maybe you faced a major decision, a new job, a relationship,
- 1:54a ministry opportunity.
- 1:56Or maybe you're simply wondering or wondered, Lord, what do I do?
- 2:02What do you want me to do next?
- 2:05One of the most common questions we ask is, how do I know when God is speaking? Let's explore that.
- 2:13Here's a hard check for you. Sometimes we expect God to speak in dramatic ways. A booming voice.
- 2:20A miraculous sign.
- 2:23A lighting of a light in the sky. A lightning bolt moment that removes every doubt.
- 2:31And while God certainly can work in extraordinary ways, more often he leads
- 2:36us through ordinary faithfulness.
- 2:40The challenge isn't always that God isn't speaking. Sometimes it's that our
- 2:44lives have become so noisy that we've struggled to recognize his voice.
- 2:49So we're going to talk about this.
- 2:52Think about the people that you love most. You recognize their voices almost
- 2:56instantaneously. Instantly.
- 2:59Not because they speak louder than everyone else. Well, they do in my family,
- 3:02but that's not the point.
- 3:03But because you've spent time with them.
- 3:07The same is true in our relationship with God.
- 3:10The more times we spend with him, the more familiar he's leading becomes.
- 3:17Familiar. Learning to hear God's voice isn't about unlocking a secret formula.
- 3:23It's about growing in a relationship.
- 3:25Relationships deepen through time, trust, and consistent communication.
- 3:31Here's a biblical perspective. Throughout scripture, God guided us and guided
- 3:36his people in many different ways.
- 3:38Sometimes through his word, sometimes through prayer, sometimes through his
- 3:44wise people he placed in their lives, sometimes through circumstances that opened or closed doors.
- 3:50The common thread wasn't that God wasn't, well, that God was always,
- 3:55well, yeah, I guess you can say that.
- 3:58Sometimes I'm thinking one way and I say, let me, let me hear what God's word
- 4:02is telling me to tell you.
- 4:03The common thread wasn't that God always spoke the same way. There we go.
- 4:09The common thread was that his people learned to trust him as they followed.
- 4:15Yeah, God's guidance always aligned with his character.
- 4:20He will never lead us in a direction that.
- 4:26That contradicts his truth. That's a better way to put it.
- 4:31Let me give you a more personal perspective. There have been many times when
- 4:35I've desperately wanted God to hand me a detailed roadmap.
- 4:39Does that sound familiar? Instead, he gave me the next step.
- 4:43Looking back, I realized that if he had shown me the entire journey,
- 4:48I might have been really overwhelmed.
- 4:51Instead, he taught me to trust him one day at a time.
- 4:56Baby steps. I've also learned that some of God's clearest guidance has come
- 5:00during quiet moments, whether that was reading scripture, praying,
- 5:06listening, and simply making room for him to speak.
- 5:09Those moments have shaped my life far more than I realized at a time.
- 5:14So how do we live this out? If you're waiting for God's direction today,
- 5:19don't become discouraged.
- 5:21Keep spending time with his word.
- 5:24Keep praying. Keep worshiping. Seek wise, godly counsel.
- 5:31I like that. Pay attention to where God is opening doors and where he may be gently closing them.
- 5:38Don't underestimate the small nudges of the Holy Spirit.
- 5:42Often, God's guidance isn't about rushing ahead. It's about faithfully taking
- 5:47the next step he places before you.
- 5:51Let's give yourself a faith challenge today. This week, create intentional space
- 5:56to listen. Turn off the television.
- 6:01Put your phone aside for a few minutes. Those are the sound effects,
- 6:04by the way. Sit quietly with your Bible.
- 6:08There's a Bible. Pray this simple prayer.
- 6:13Lord, my heart is listening. Help me recognize your voice and give me the courage
- 6:18to follow you and follow where you lead me.
- 6:21Then be patient because sometimes the greatest act of faith is learning to wait with expectations.
- 6:28So here's my closing thought. God isn't trying to hide his word.
- 6:32God isn't trying to hide his will from you.
- 6:36He desires a relationship with you. And as you continue to walk with him,
- 6:41you'll begin to recognize his voice, not because life becomes easier,
- 6:46but because your heart becomes more familiar with the shepherd who's leading you. Amen.
- 6:52Heavenly Father, thank you for being a God who still guides your people.
- 6:57Help us quiet the distractions that compete for our attention.
- 7:03Teach us to treasure your word, to seek you in prayer, and to trust your leading
- 7:10even when we can't see the whole path.
- 7:13Give us hearts that are willing to listen and lives that are willing to obey.
- 7:20We follow you with confidence, knowing that you are always faithful.
- 7:24In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
- 7:26Well, here's today's takeaway. The more time you spend with the shepherd,
- 7:31the easier it becomes to recognize his voice.
- 7:35Thank you for listening. Thank you for joining me for episode five of 10 of
- 7:38the following Jesus in real life. Remember, God is still speaking.
- 7:44The question isn't whether he's speaking. It's whether we're making room to listen.
- 7:51Keep walking. Keep trusting. Keep listening. And never forget to have faith.
- 7:59Let it begin. Coming up next, episode six of 10. when your prayers go unanswered.
- 8:06Trust in God's heart when you don't understand his timing.
- 8:10We'll wrestle with one of the hardest experiences in the Christian life,
- 8:15praying faithfully and wondering why the answer hasn't come.
- 8:19We'll discover that God's weight is not always his. No.
- 8:24And that his faithfulness remains even in the months or years of unanswered prayers.
- 8:30We'll talk to you tomorrow. Take care. Have.
- 8:38Faith, let it be.
