- 0:01Don't let your emotions get the best of you. Hi, this is justin
- 0:05hit with commercial electoral profits inside strategic relations. I'm here to share with you
- 0:10a very very important lesson about maintaining control and composure. Now, I don't
- 0:20know whether it was the pictures of Michelle Obama being angry and yelling at her
- 0:24husband or the fact that some people in my life periodically get angry and upset
- 0:29about situations, But it doesn't matter what it was. That frustration and anger
- 0:36I see in people at times, and sometimes have in my own life only
- 0:42gets in the way of results. An excellent book that I highly recommend to
- 0:47all my clients as psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz, and in his book,
- 0:51it talks about your ability to control not only your mind, but through the
- 0:57control of your mind, attitude, and behavior, the transformation of the world
- 1:02around you. Now, we could simply look at it from a psychological perspective
- 1:07that your perception impacts how you see the world, how you translate, So
- 1:12the world could be crap, could be completely a waste. Let's give a
- 1:19practical example. The world. You could be going fishing and you know it's
- 1:23been a beautiful day you've been out on the boat all day, the weather
- 1:26is just right. You know, all that tension that was in your shoulders,
- 1:30it's completely gone. And you've just had that rod over the side.
- 1:34You've been relaxing, maybe your favorite brew, maybe you add a sandwich out
- 1:38there. Life is great and you don't catch a single damn fish. Now
- 1:44you could have that relaxation and enjoyment of the process, not reach your results,
- 1:51but still really had a wonderful day, a really productive, relaxing attitude.
- 1:56You know. I know people who go fishing. They don't even put
- 1:59a rod in the water. Sometimes they just enjoy getting that break, being
- 2:04away. Maybe they take their boy out and their boy gets to do a
- 2:06little fishing. Maybe they just sit there and relax and just absorb the atmosphere.
- 2:13Got a couple buddies that gear up to go fishing on their little kayaks.
- 2:16They do a little fishing here, they do a little kayaking there.
- 2:20End of the day, doesn't matter if they call anything. They have a
- 2:23great time. Now, I'm not saying mediocracy mediocracy is okay, or not
- 2:30getting your result is okay. But there's a difference between being all pissed off
- 2:34about it and being relaxed and having a good time having just make it work.
- 2:38So I see these pictures of Michelle Obama just reaming out President Obama.
- 2:44She's the first lady of the United States, and she's telling him how it
- 2:49is. And you know what, what kind of motivation is that for someone
- 2:54to change? I think about a wife yelling at a husband, or a
- 2:58husband yelling at a wife. What motivation does that produce to take it to
- 3:02the next level. So here's the question I have. When you're angry and
- 3:07frustrated and you just can't take it, what could be done to make this
- 3:12situation more productive? Another question is how does this serve you? Now,
- 3:16I'm gonna speak from experience here. When I was growing up, my father
- 3:21yelled. Former marine, he got in your face like a drill sergeant.
- 3:24He yelled at you. I cried, Okay, it's just you can't help.
- 3:28But your dad's in your face, yelling, pissed off, slamming stuff
- 3:32around, and just not handling it well. Now, in his older age,
- 3:38as he's matured, he has rained that under control. But there's one
- 3:44thing that I understood, and I don't know if it was the martial arts
- 3:46class or it was just having that experience. Is that if I maintained composure
- 3:53and the most desperate or frustrating situations, I tend to have the upper hand.
- 3:59See when you're worried and frustrated and you didn't ask the right questions,
- 4:02when you're angry and you're all tensed up and just pissed off and just you
- 4:08know, I just raging. You missed the opportunity to take it to the
- 4:13next level. You miss it the opportunity to share the lesson. You missed
- 4:15the opportunity to really manage the situation to your best interests. In fact,
- 4:23what I learned in martial arts is that the more angry you could make the
- 4:27other person, the more frustrated they were, the more they would take a
- 4:30wild swing, and you could use their own momentum against them, The more
- 4:34likely they would not see certain things, and you could just excuse yourself from
- 4:38the situation. Now. Of course, that led into me having a big
- 4:41mouth at school, and people wanted to fight all the time. But I
- 4:44never actually got in a fight in school because I could always defuse the situation.
- 4:47I could always turn around their anger on something else. I could always
- 4:53get them confused because when people are angry, they get confused, and they're
- 4:56not sure what the topic is. No out of the situation is that when
- 5:00you maintain composure and a focus on your goals and objective, you just always
- 5:09win. Think about it. If a firefighter ran into a building angry,
- 5:14frustrated, without any clear direction of what they're going to do, they're running
- 5:18to their death. But instead, firefighters, law enforcement and other emergency responders
- 5:25inter a situation with common composure. They inter a situation with alertness and focus.
- 5:30They inter situation fully in control. And that's why I put this message
- 5:36together for you today because I want you to be fully in control. I
- 5:41want you to maintain an aspect and composure that keeps you on top of your
- 5:46game no matter what kind of crap happens. And you're going to have things
- 5:48go bad, financial problems, employees stealing from you, bad things happen in
- 5:55the economy, you have to say to yourself, where is the off it
- 6:00in this? Now? You can still get angry, but take it out
- 6:02in a constructive way. Take it out by going to the gym and just
- 6:05pumping out of her team, or going to a hike, or just really
- 6:10pushing yourself to the edge doing some kind of useful, productive work. But
- 6:15never ever allow yourself to be distracted, never ever allow yourself to be to
- 6:23be worked up, because one thing you may not be aware of is that
- 6:27sometimes people like to push your buttons just to watch the show. Now,
- 6:32I'll admit it now, Sometimes me and my brothers we did things just to
- 6:36get my dad riled up because it was a show. It was entertainment and
- 6:43something. My wife gets upset at times, and I don't row her up
- 6:46on purpose, but she gets worked up and then gets used to getting worked
- 6:49up and it just doesn't serve her interests. I see it all the time
- 6:55in workplaces. They like to get the guy they want to see if they
- 6:58can get him over the edge and get them angry or get them fired or
- 7:00something. They want to just work the system. And you're not gonna be
- 7:04aware of that if you are constantly getting frustrated, if you're constantly getting over
- 7:10the edge, Now, you might not be the type of person who would
- 7:14get in a screaming match or who would throw things. And I'm not saying
- 7:17I know people who do that, but I got my ass whooped quite a
- 7:21few times for pissing my dad off. But the bottom line is you may
- 7:26not be that type of person where you think you're going up over the edge.
- 7:29But if you get if you do this many times, if you get
- 7:31that frustration, that cloudiness, it actually will will seem more and more normal,
- 7:38and you almost have to step back and look at yourself from another perspective.
- 7:43So when you feel like you're getting angry and you're getting a little frustrated,
- 7:46you're gonna notice tension in your shoulders, You're gonna notice tension in your
- 7:49jaw. You're gonna notice kind of a worked up feeling. Now, some
- 7:55people respond to that by being angry. Some people respond to that by eating.
- 7:59Some people respond to that by a nervous feeling. And you might be
- 8:03saying, well, I don't have a physical response to this kind of things,
- 8:05but I feel nervous or otherwise, Or you might be saying it you
- 8:09don't have a situation where this happens. But I can guarantee to you that
- 8:11in selling situations, in work delivery situations, and every day just activity,
- 8:22you will have situations where if you take a deep breath, let it out,
- 8:28just relax, you're gonna solve the situation. Faster, get a more
- 8:33advantageous result than any other way possible. Let me give you an example before
- 8:35I wrap this up. You've just closed on a big deal. Okay,
- 8:41this is a big deal for your company. It's one hundred thousand dollars sale.
- 8:46But you guys don't show up on time. The customer's pissed off.
- 8:50They're yelling at you on the phone. The accountant has called because there's some
- 8:54there's an IRS audit. All these things start piling up. What is your
- 8:56response. Well, one way of handling it is to take out a piece
- 9:01of paper and make a list of the problems you face and address them one
- 9:05at a time. You might be saying, well, that's not practical,
- 9:07I got all these problems. No, you've got one thing at a time
- 9:11that you're going to resolve. And when you resolve it with that focus to
- 9:16be responsive rather than reactive, you will get more accomplished than trying to head
- 9:22it all and getting overwhelmed. So the customer, you just close this big
- 9:26deal, Your technicians doesn't show up, customers on the phone. That is
- 9:31a money opportunity. Money pays for resources. Resources can help you solve all
- 9:35the problems you address that carefully and focus. So what do you do.
- 9:41Do you get on the cell phone and call them right away. No,
- 9:43you take yourself and change your situation. Take yourself and change the environment.
- 9:48For example, go into acquire room, make your list of three or four
- 9:52key points. Maybe you're gonna call your technicians before you call back the customer,
- 9:56and you're gonna make sure technicians are in route. You're gonna make sure
- 10:00everything's been addressed. You're gonna make sure that they're at the right details are
- 10:03in place. You might go into the side room and assemble a few of
- 10:07your lieutenants, a few of your key people, and assign them tasks to
- 10:11do. But what you're gonna do is you're gonna stand upright, You're gonna
- 10:15look focused, and you're gonna explain to people, this is how it's gonna
- 10:18get done. We're gonna solve this problem, and we're gonna solve this problem.
- 10:22Now. You focus on lists, you focus on action plans, you
- 10:26focus on objectives. Now, a lot of people are gonna want to give
- 10:30you excuses. A lot of people are gonna want to give you reasons why
- 10:33it didn't turn out. None of that matters. What can we do right
- 10:37now. By maintaining composure, your mind will be more clear to address what
- 10:43happens right now. Now you can still be angry and frustrated, but you
- 10:48could be angry and frustrated later. You literally lock that in a box,
- 10:52set it aside. I'm not talking about suppressing emotions here. I'm talking about
- 11:00shifting your focus to what you can do rather than all the crap that's happened
- 11:05to you. So you get your lieutenants together, you send them on action.
- 11:09You say, look, find out what's going on with the technicians.
- 11:11They need to be on the job site in five minutes. You call your
- 11:15service department. We need to have that project together right now. Drop what
- 11:18you're doing, make it happen right now. And then you call your customer
- 11:24and you don't make excuses the customers. You say, what's going on,
- 11:28they tear the situation. You say, here is what I'm going to do,
- 11:33here's what I'm currently done, Here's what we're going to do to make
- 11:35this right. It's really about taking control of the situation, but first taking
- 11:41the control of your emotions so that you're properly composed and focused to solve the
- 11:48larger issue. I'm just in It with Commercial Electrical Profits and the Inside Strategic
