- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Hands to Hester, and Hester, yep, got it, five out
- 0:07Speaker 2: of five.
- 0:07Speaker 1: From carrying each other to a natty to carrying each
- 0:11Speaker 1: other on the air.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Flynn is back to throw for the end zone goal.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Live from the Raising Cane Studio, it's Off the Bench.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I can't stand it. All right. Welcome back here off
- 0:47Speaker 3: the bench. Allen number three on a Tuesday, Tuesday shows
- 0:52Speaker 3: brought to you by community steel off in the raising
- 0:54Speaker 3: canes studio. Well, it's Tuesday at nine. You know what
- 0:59Speaker 3: time it is. It's time for Mr. Nick Underhill to
- 1:02Speaker 3: join the show. Let's go ahead and bring him on. Nick,
- 1:05Speaker 3: what's going on, my man.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Hey, doing good, man.
- 1:08Speaker 3: I'm doing fantastic. Doing fantastic. So close. So close this weekend, buddy. Um,
- 1:16Speaker 3: it was a really good game. I thought they played
- 1:17Speaker 3: really well. It seemed like the dome was rocking. Um,
- 1:20Speaker 3: but what give us, go ahead and give us like
- 1:22Speaker 3: just a brief takeaway from overall, just like from a
- 1:25Speaker 3: broad perspective here on the game.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, man. Like if that game had ended at the
- 1:31Speaker 2: end of the third quarter, I think we'd be talking
- 1:32Speaker 2: about like, where does Chuck rank in, in accordance to
- 1:36Speaker 2: like Brock party in the early MVP, the early MVP race, man.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Like he, he, He played really well. I thought it
- 1:43Speaker 2: was the best way they've started a game under Kellen Moore.
- 1:46Speaker 2: First time they've ever had a lead at the end
- 1:47Speaker 2: of the first quarter under Kellen Moore. First drive still
- 1:50Speaker 2: wasn't good, but they found the way to start and
- 1:53Speaker 2: they did not find the way to finish. You know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: I'm not worried about it yet, but I do think
- 1:59Speaker 2: we're at the point, at least in this season, that
- 2:00Speaker 2: there's been like a three-week trend where there's like, you know,
- 2:03Speaker 2: two or three series every game where it just kind
- 2:05Speaker 2: of feels like everything with the offense is like, like
- 2:08Speaker 2: you bumped the 1.5 speed on your podcast player. And
- 2:10Speaker 2: it's like just a little too sped up a little
- 2:13Speaker 2: bit off. Like they got to find a way to
- 2:15Speaker 2: avoid that. Like that's starting to become a little bit
- 2:17Speaker 2: of a troubling trend. Um, but man, I thought, I
- 2:20Speaker 2: thought Kellen probably put together his, his best game plan.
- 2:23Speaker 2: The run started working a little like, but yeah, they
- 2:26Speaker 2: just can't play a four quarter game yet. And they
- 2:28Speaker 2: got to figure that out.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Um, That's like the last step too, Nick. I mean,
- 2:32Speaker 3: you know this. You've been covering ball for a long time.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Like a team like that.
- 2:34Speaker 4: That's trying to change their ways, one of the last
- 2:37Speaker 4: things to get there is how to win games in
- 2:39Speaker 4: different ways. They found a way to win the comeback game.
- 2:42Speaker 4: After they failed the first game, they found a way
- 2:44Speaker 4: the second game. Now it's how do you win a
- 2:46Speaker 4: game when you've got the lead and you kind of
- 2:50Speaker 4: have to churn some clock and you've got to keep
- 2:52Speaker 4: possessions away from the other team. It feels like they
- 2:55Speaker 4: haven't learned that yet. And when they do, it's going
- 2:57Speaker 4: to be dangerous, but they haven't learned it yet.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt. I mean, man, really there was a
- 3:01Speaker 2: stretch there. Like in the third quarter, they had that drive.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I think at one point he was like eight for eight.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Like they were, they were killing it and they looked incredible.
- 3:09Speaker 2: And it is weird that it's like the inverse of
- 3:12Speaker 2: every other game they've played. And yeah, it definitely is
- 3:15Speaker 2: the last thing that they've learned because they, they have
- 3:17Speaker 2: not had a single game under Callum where they've went
- 3:19Speaker 2: start to finish and control the game. Like, and that
- 3:22Speaker 2: would be a nice thing to see. Like just see
- 3:24Speaker 2: them win a game where it's, where it's what you
- 3:26Speaker 2: see is what you get. And, You just kind of
- 3:28Speaker 2: don't know what to expect right now. But yeah, I mean,
- 3:32Speaker 2: I thought they played pretty good. I went through it
- 3:33Speaker 2: again and rewatched it. I felt more encouraged after the
- 3:36Speaker 2: rewatch than discouraged, which I think is usually, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 2: a good thing. A lot of times, like, you feel
- 3:40Speaker 2: good about it and then you watch and you're like, ah,
- 3:42Speaker 2: there's a few things I missed here. Like, there's a
- 3:45Speaker 2: couple plays, you know, I think. It's too simplistic to
- 3:48Speaker 2: put it on Austin Richards, but I think if Calvin
- 3:51Speaker 2: Banks is playing, maybe you have a different outcome in
- 3:53Speaker 2: a couple spots. He was giving stuff up on three
- 3:57Speaker 2: big game-changing plays, so that's one thing. I thought it
- 4:01Speaker 2: was really weird that with Banks and Fuaga out there,
- 4:05Speaker 2: they have the 85% island rate where they don't get help.
- 4:08Speaker 2: With Austin Richards, they had an 85% island rate where
- 4:11Speaker 2: he didn't get help. which is like, you know, come on,
- 4:13Speaker 2: like throw someone out there maybe once in a while
- 4:16Speaker 2: with him, maybe on some of these third downs. Um,
- 4:18Speaker 2: but they're just, you know, they, they don't like using
- 4:20Speaker 2: six Oh line on this team. They use 21 snaps
- 4:23Speaker 2: of it last year. It doesn't look like that's going
- 4:24Speaker 2: to be a strategy. I think there's still a few
- 4:27Speaker 2: things to clean up, but yeah, they look good overall defensively. Um,
- 4:31Speaker 2: I wish they had a different plan against Brock Bowers,
- 4:33Speaker 2: but outside of that, you know, I think Kool-Aid kept
- 4:35Speaker 2: playing well. I think losing Pete Werner was, was low key,
- 4:38Speaker 2: a game changing thing for him. He's quickly become one
- 4:40Speaker 2: of them guys. Um, But, you know, I don't think
- 4:43Speaker 2: it was confidence shaking or anything like that. But they
- 4:46Speaker 2: got to– I think Monday now is a must-win game
- 4:49Speaker 2: for them, though. Like, I don't think you can lose
- 4:50Speaker 2: out and keep, you know, positivity around the team. You know,
- 4:54Speaker 2: I think the fan base would be quickly at everybody's neck.
- 4:59Speaker 2: And you saw how quickly that ignited last time. Things
- 5:01Speaker 2: didn't go well. So I think it's very important Monday
- 5:04Speaker 2: night they win that game.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Nick, what we saw Sunday– Who would have thought this
- 5:09Speaker 3: before the season? But did we watch a game with
- 5:12Speaker 3: two good NFL teams between the Raiders and the Saints?
- 5:16Speaker 2: Dude, Kubiak's a great coach. Like, I really think he's,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you know, we've been around some good coaches around here,
- 5:24Speaker 2: you know, obviously, and then even just coordinators. Like, DA's
- 5:27Speaker 2: a great coordinator. I think Staley's a really good coordinator,
- 5:30Speaker 2: you know, around Sean Payton. I was in New England covering,
- 5:34Speaker 2: you know, Josh McDaniel's up there as the O.C., I
- 5:37Speaker 2: think Kubiak's has put together is anybody as a play caller,
- 5:40Speaker 2: as a, as a philosopher of what he wants to do.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And I think you see it. The question for me
- 5:47Speaker 2: with him was always like, how would he manage a
- 5:48Speaker 2: room as a head coach? I, you know, I still
- 5:50Speaker 2: don't know that they're going to know that. And I
- 5:53Speaker 2: don't think the saints very similarly with Kellen. Like, I
- 5:55Speaker 2: don't think you really know it until there's actual adversity
- 5:58Speaker 2: and you see how they keep it together, just given
- 6:00Speaker 2: how their personalities are. And they're kind of more, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 2: I don't know what the word to use is, but they're, they're,
- 6:06Speaker 2: they're not the, they're not John Summerall. Like they're the
- 6:09Speaker 2: opposite of, of whatever that prototype of a coach is.
- 6:13Speaker 2: But man, Kubiak, like he, he puts that thing together, man.
- 6:16Speaker 2: He has a, he has a vision. He has a philosophy. And,
- 6:18Speaker 2: you know, I think the thing that spoke the most
- 6:21Speaker 2: to me about him is that there's a group of
- 6:23Speaker 2: guys that are tied in with him and wherever he goes,
- 6:25Speaker 2: they all go and everybody's jumping to go with him
- 6:27Speaker 2: every time. And that just shows that there's a lot
- 6:29Speaker 2: of people that believe in him. So yeah, man, like,
- 6:33Speaker 2: I think they got a chance they're in a really
- 6:34Speaker 2: hard division but you know starting out three and oh
- 6:36Speaker 2: it is a big deal in the NFL if you
- 6:38Speaker 2: can get that jump out early in the season um
- 6:42Speaker 2: I think there's like a little thing in the league
- 6:44Speaker 2: right now where everybody kind of bs's preseason and training
- 6:46Speaker 2: camp where if you just went out and went hard
- 6:48Speaker 2: and you jump start and you start out three and
- 6:50Speaker 2: oh man if you get like spotted a couple wins
- 6:53Speaker 2: that might be enough to win you a division of
- 6:55Speaker 2: the playoffs um They look like they went at it.
- 6:59Speaker 2: You know, I think the Bears always go at it.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I can't believe they won that game last night. They
- 7:05Speaker 2: beat the hell out of the Eagles.
- 7:07Speaker 3: That was awesome.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Dude, like, unbelievable coaching. Like, there's a few guys that
- 7:11Speaker 2: are just different. You know, I think there's a lot
- 7:13Speaker 2: of decent coaches, and there's a couple that are, like,
- 7:15Speaker 2: actually really good. And he's one of them. What in
- 7:18Speaker 2: that game with Case Keenum? Like, I know Philly hasn't,
- 7:20Speaker 2: you know, they haven't figured it out yet. They haven't
- 7:22Speaker 2: put it together. They haven't grooved in. But, like, what
- 7:25Speaker 2: in that game like that? But Chase Keenum is unbelievable. Like,
- 7:28Speaker 2: I was looking, I was like, three and a half. Like,
- 7:30Speaker 2: what am I missing? Well, like, I was missing the
- 7:33Speaker 2: proper evaluation of Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen. But, yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 2: I don't even know what we were talking about. We're
- 7:39Speaker 2: off to our L's right now, so I'm just going
- 7:41Speaker 2: to shut up.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Well, no, I mean, I actually want to go back
- 7:43Speaker 3: to the point.
- 7:43Speaker 4: Like, so I went to 16 different training camps this offseason,
- 7:47Speaker 4: and the teams that I saw, like, strain through training camp,
- 7:51Speaker 4: The Buffalo Bills, they're 3-0. The Kansas City Chiefs, they're 3-0.
- 7:56Speaker 4: I could go down the list of teams that are
- 7:59Speaker 4: 3-0 that actually went through training camp. Even ones that
- 8:02Speaker 4: are 2-1, like the Steelers and the Ravens, they were different.
- 8:06Speaker 4: The teams that I thought were in a walk-through pace,
- 8:09Speaker 4: a lot of those teams are either 0-3 or 1-2.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I'm not saying kill your guys in preseason games, but
- 8:14Speaker 4: at some point during training camp, Training camp is training
- 8:17Speaker 4: camp for a reason. You've got to get calloused during
- 8:19Speaker 4: training camp, and the teams that did, the teams that
- 8:22Speaker 4: had hard, physical, quick practices, no standing around, hour and
- 8:25Speaker 4: 40 minutes, we're in, we're out, but we're going to work,
- 8:27Speaker 4: they're 3-0 or 2-1. There is really something to the teams. Now,
- 8:32Speaker 4: the Saints have had bad fortune because I throw the
- 8:34Speaker 4: Saints into a category of a team that works during
- 8:36Speaker 4: training camp, but they've had a chance to win all
- 8:38Speaker 4: three games.
- 8:39Speaker 3: The teams that have looked the.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Worst were the teams I said, why are we even here?
- 8:43Speaker 3: They're not doing anything.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 2: I just think like having your offense fully in sync
- 8:47Speaker 2: early in the season can win you like everybody's built
- 8:50Speaker 2: to win like seven games in the NFL and the
- 8:52Speaker 2: circumstances are going to keep you hovering around seven and
- 8:54Speaker 2: the officials are going to cheat a couple of times
- 8:56Speaker 2: for you and help you win a game. If you're
- 8:57Speaker 2: not winning enough games, like it's just kind of, it's
- 8:59Speaker 2: just kind of built that way. If you can steal
- 9:01Speaker 2: two by being ready before everybody else, that could be
- 9:04Speaker 2: the variance that changes things. And if you're a head coach,
- 9:07Speaker 2: that means you're, you're making the $ 7 million for another year. Like,
- 9:11Speaker 2: I don't know why everybody doesn't do it. Um, I'm
- 9:13Speaker 2: kind of thinking of the Rams when I look at it.
- 9:16Speaker 2: They look like they kind of go through the paces.
- 9:18Speaker 2: They're a veteran team. They kind of approach it a
- 9:20Speaker 2: little bit, and this might be unfair to say because
- 9:22Speaker 2: it's a thousand-mile distance observation, but it feels like they
- 9:25Speaker 2: go through things at an NBA pace where it's like, well,
- 9:29Speaker 2: we'll be ready for the playoffs. We've got enough talent
- 9:30Speaker 2: to get there. I've heard they're done every day at noon,
- 9:33Speaker 2: like go home done during training camp, and yeah that
- 9:37Speaker 2: keeps your guys like Devontae Adams playing longer and you
- 9:40Speaker 2: know people can keep committing to football as life builds
- 9:43Speaker 2: but they don't look ready to play like so I
- 9:46Speaker 2: just think there is something to it I think there's
- 9:48Speaker 2: something to be in now like you don't want to
- 9:50Speaker 2: go too hard and be worn out by the end
- 9:51Speaker 2: of the season either like that's the flip side of
- 9:53Speaker 2: it but I mean it's there's only 17 of these
- 9:56Speaker 2: games if you can steal two by being ready while
- 9:58Speaker 2: the other team isn't I think that's a huge advantage.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Speaking of being ready to play travis a chain um
- 10:05Speaker 3: how we looking what's your what's the word on the
- 10:07Speaker 3: street over there obviously pulled up during a nice little
- 10:10Speaker 3: play this past weekend but availability timeline all that good
- 10:14Speaker 3: stuff Yeah.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I think it's probably gonna be a few weeks for him.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And like, you saw that, that thing just bite, but
- 10:20Speaker 2: he reached back, grabbed the back of the thigh. Like
- 10:22Speaker 2: it didn't look good. And he had one coming into it.
- 10:25Speaker 2: So I'm expecting a few weeks there for sure. I
- 10:28Speaker 2: think that would probably push AK into the number one spot.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I thought Kendrick Miller had, it's tough, man. Is the
- 10:36Speaker 2: president of the kind of Kendrick Miller hype fan club, whatever,
- 10:38Speaker 2: like just, this was, this was a confidence rattling a game.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I'm not selling the stock yet. Like I'm too deep
- 10:44Speaker 2: in like, we're going belly up with it. If it,
- 10:47Speaker 2: if it goes belly up, but it's not a good
- 10:50Speaker 2: game for him.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I did.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I got the pink slip. So like, it's okay.
- 10:54Speaker 3: It's okay.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Like we're not going bankrupt over here off it, but
- 10:57Speaker 2: it's not, it's not looking good there. Um, that was
- 11:00Speaker 2: his moment. He'll get another chance here this week, probably to, uh,
- 11:04Speaker 2: cut and bait on estimate and Devin Neal all of
- 11:06Speaker 2: a sudden looks a little bit, a little bit different.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Like that room has gotten, uh, thin and they don't
- 11:10Speaker 2: really have the guys there, but yeah, I think it's
- 11:11Speaker 2: probably gonna be AK is running back one. Cause you're
- 11:13Speaker 2: Miller too. Um, maybe CJ Donaldson gets some carries. Like
- 11:17Speaker 2: I think he needs to get some carries cause it's
- 11:20Speaker 2: turned into a massive tell that when he's on the field,
- 11:22Speaker 2: they're going to, they're going to pass the ball. You
- 11:24Speaker 2: can't just run him one time and it's certain one,
- 11:26Speaker 2: like you gotta, you gotta mix them in if he's
- 11:28Speaker 2: going to get that many snaps. So this could be
- 11:30Speaker 2: a good chance for them to break that tendency too.
- 11:32Speaker 2: But yeah, it doesn't look great on him. And I
- 11:34Speaker 2: think Jordan Tyson, I don't know. I don't know if
- 11:38Speaker 2: it's the Vikings game. Like it sounds like there's maybe
- 11:42Speaker 2: Maybe the timeline's still a little bit in question. It
- 11:44Speaker 2: might extend a little bit longer.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Man, as much as I want Jordan Tyson to be
- 11:51Speaker 4: back out there, it feels like the running back situation
- 11:54Speaker 4: is the one that is going to be the most
- 11:55Speaker 4: concerning because you have other receivers and you have tight
- 11:58Speaker 4: ends that are making plays. Tyson's going to add to that, obviously.
- 12:02Speaker 4: But the running back situation, they finally kind of committed
- 12:06Speaker 4: to it this last game and they're like, hey, we're
- 12:07Speaker 4: going to run the football. They started to have some success,
- 12:09Speaker 4: but If you're without your starting guy, what does that
- 12:12Speaker 4: do to the rotation?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Can you trust Kenji Miller?
- 12:15Speaker 4: We know at this point what AK is, and he
- 12:17Speaker 4: can still give you some valuable carries, but that's the
- 12:21Speaker 4: one that makes me the most nervous, Nick, because I
- 12:23Speaker 4: don't want them to fall back into a situation where
- 12:26Speaker 4: they're not committing to the run and Chuck's having to
- 12:28Speaker 4: throw 45 passes for them to win a game.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Yeah, look, and that's one of those things too. If
- 12:33Speaker 2: they play a four-quarter game, they can commit to it
- 12:35Speaker 2: a little more. I do think the fact that they
- 12:37Speaker 2: were running some– draws against six-man boxes and, like, the
- 12:40Speaker 2: four-minute offense kind of maybe inflated the numbers a little
- 12:44Speaker 2: bit there, too, made you feel a little bit better
- 12:45Speaker 2: about it than, like, what it would actually look like.
- 12:48Speaker 2: You know, you're trailing and you're running when they aren't
- 12:50Speaker 2: expecting you to run, and you get, like, I don't know,
- 12:53Speaker 2: they added, like, 25 yards in that situation. There's still
- 12:57Speaker 2: problems with that, though, man. Like, I'm still extremely worried
- 13:00Speaker 2: about how they're blocking the run, how they're building it.
- 13:04Speaker 2: It was definitely better this week. It was a step
- 13:05Speaker 2: in the right direction, but it wasn't enough to really...
- 13:09Speaker 2: like feel great about it. Um, I don't know what
- 13:12Speaker 2: it's going to take to get there. I think, I
- 13:13Speaker 2: think it's a huge problem for them though, still that
- 13:16Speaker 2: they got to figure out. And, um, yeah, losing, losing
- 13:19Speaker 2: your guy with the most burst is, is a massive
- 13:21Speaker 2: problem there. Like that, that's a big hit. So I'm
- 13:24Speaker 2: with you. I think, I think it's a huge deal.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I think, um, you know, it's only three weeks of
- 13:28Speaker 2: the season that, that investment in the run game, like has,
- 13:31Speaker 2: has not paid off the way it should have though.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Like that was the big commitment this off season. And, um,
- 13:36Speaker 2: you know, I don't think they're seeing the returns on
- 13:37Speaker 2: her right now. So they got to find a way
- 13:38Speaker 2: like with or without him, like that has to get
- 13:40Speaker 2: better because yeah, it can't all be on Tyler and
- 13:43Speaker 2: you got to be able to control the game, control
- 13:45Speaker 2: the clock, all that stuff. So definitely, definitely a huge,
- 13:49Speaker 2: a huge loss with him pulling up in the skin. Yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 3: That investment not paying off yet, but a previous investment
- 13:55Speaker 3: is paying off. Juwan Johnson is playing awesome right now,
- 13:59Speaker 3: like playing really, really good. And my guy, like, some
- 14:04Speaker 3: of the clips we've seen in the past couple of years,
- 14:05Speaker 3: it's just bricks for hands, but my God, he's just
- 14:08Speaker 3: making everything run after catch has been really good. Um,
- 14:12Speaker 3: you know, I don't even want to ask you like
- 14:13Speaker 3: the basic question. What have you seen from him? Just like,
- 14:15Speaker 3: what has he brought to the offense? So, because like,
- 14:17Speaker 3: if he can keep playing like that, a lot of
- 14:19Speaker 3: a add Jordan Tyson in the mix in a couple
- 14:20Speaker 3: of weeks, like that running game has no choice, but
- 14:23Speaker 3: to be better. Cause they have to worry so much
- 14:24Speaker 3: about those guys.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Yeah. I think it's interesting that like both him and
- 14:28Speaker 2: Chris look like that. They're, they're doing way better after
- 14:30Speaker 2: the couch. I think, I think in a lot of
- 14:32Speaker 2: these case, part of it's getting like some security and no,
- 14:35Speaker 2: and now that like, if you catch the screen and
- 14:37Speaker 2: you turn up field and try to get all 10
- 14:39Speaker 2: yards and you're, you take a hit at the end,
- 14:40Speaker 2: like that's not going to be the one that costs you, uh,
- 14:43Speaker 2: $ 30 million a year. So I think that kind of,
- 14:45Speaker 2: you know, that that's good to see that investment in him.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I think you just kind of see it paying off
- 14:49Speaker 2: in the confidence with how he plays. Juwan's been incredible
- 14:52Speaker 2: after the catch. So like just completely unbelievable. Like he
- 14:55Speaker 2: just looks lighter on his feet. He looks more agile. Um,
- 14:59Speaker 2: Like you said, he's kind of catching everything. Had the
- 15:01Speaker 2: tough fumble at the end of the game. But outside
- 15:03Speaker 2: of that, man, he's been huge for them. And when
- 15:06Speaker 2: he signed that contract, it felt aspirational, as if they
- 15:10Speaker 2: were paying him to be something he hadn't achieved yet.
- 15:13Speaker 2: And now you look at where he ranks in the
- 15:15Speaker 2: league among tight ends, and he feels like a bargain.
- 15:17Speaker 2: He's exceeded it. He's continued to get better. He continues
- 15:20Speaker 2: to improve. And I think it's more than just the
- 15:24Speaker 2: chemistry with Tyler. It looks like he's really... invested in
- 15:28Speaker 2: like improving his game and like in those isolated moments
- 15:31Speaker 2: after the catch, catching the ball, you know, just everything.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Like it just, it looks like everything's getting better. It
- 15:36Speaker 2: looks like he feels good about how he's playing. You
- 15:38Speaker 2: see the growth. He's, he's been like massive for them.
- 15:43Speaker 2: No question about it.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Last one for me, Nick.
- 15:46Speaker 4: And it's a draft class that I think we were
- 15:49Speaker 4: all really excited about. I love some of the picks and,
- 15:52Speaker 4: you know, we've had some of those guys go out
- 15:53Speaker 4: there and certainly play and, make some plays, but how
- 15:57Speaker 4: would you kind of view this 2026 class so far
- 16:01Speaker 4: with Jordan Tyson being out and some of the other
- 16:03Speaker 4: pieces being backup pieces? How have you viewed how the
- 16:06Speaker 4: saints did so far?
- 16:10Speaker 2: This is probably the worst possible time you could ask
- 16:13Speaker 2: this question for, for them because like Tyson isn't playing
- 16:16Speaker 2: Christian Miller's and playing Barry and Brown was out. The
- 16:21Speaker 2: styles is, is on IR, like all these pieces, all
- 16:24Speaker 2: these guys aren't really doing anything right now. So it, it,
- 16:27Speaker 2: they haven't, they haven't paid off the way, um, you'd
- 16:30Speaker 2: be looking for him to pay off. Jeremiah Wright isn't
- 16:32Speaker 2: playing yet. So, I mean, like everybody's kind of, kind
- 16:34Speaker 2: of sidelined right now from the class. I still think
- 16:37Speaker 2: that there's good upside here. Um, you know, they've made
- 16:40Speaker 2: some sidings at defensive tackle that has made it kind
- 16:44Speaker 2: of unbelievable that like you're getting away with Christian Miller,
- 16:46Speaker 2: not playing in Brian Brazee being hurt. And, um, John
- 16:49Speaker 2: Ridgeway isn't contributing right now. And, you know, they've been
- 16:52Speaker 2: pretty decent against some really good running backs. Um, but yeah,
- 16:56Speaker 2: so far, like definitely not getting the dividends on it.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I still got, I still got hope for this group though.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I think when they get on the field, like they'll
- 17:02Speaker 2: look good. You know, Jordan Tyson, I think is an
- 17:04Speaker 2: incredible player. He's just got to get healthy. So, but
- 17:07Speaker 2: I guess if you're missing time based on the thing
- 17:09Speaker 2: that was the biggest red flag, like that, that's a
- 17:11Speaker 2: knock against, you know, that, that risk assessment. So right
- 17:15Speaker 2: now arrow all the way down, but like, I think,
- 17:18Speaker 2: I think it'll go up at some point.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Real quick question to end this. I saw this question
- 17:21Speaker 3: in the chat and I really thought it was very interesting. Um, One-on-one,
- 17:26Speaker 3: could you take a mountain lion in a fight?
- 17:30Speaker 2: 1v1. What age is it? Is it a juvenile mountain lion?
- 17:33Speaker 3: I'd say like three years. Three years.
- 17:35Speaker 2: So three years. It's got some stripes. It's got a
- 17:38Speaker 2: couple kills under its belt. I am from Pennsylvania, so
- 17:43Speaker 2: I've encountered him before.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:44Speaker 4: All right.
- 17:46Speaker 2: What are their weaknesses? Or they don't mind. No, I'm
- 17:53Speaker 2: going to play dead and just hope for the best.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I'm not fighting about mine. There's no chance.
- 17:57Speaker 3: You thought about it, though. You thought about it. I
- 18:00Speaker 3: respect the thought process. What about you?
- 18:03Speaker 2: Are you going to turn on your blinker when you
- 18:06Speaker 2: run away from it?
- 18:06Speaker 3: I think I could. I don't know if I'm going to.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Flash your alert. I don't think I'm going to kill it.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I don't think I have the skill set. Maybe I
- 18:16Speaker 3: could strangle it or rear naked choke hold or something.
- 18:19Speaker 3: As it's clawing you. But I'm not going to get killed. Okay.
- 18:24Speaker 3: All right. I'm coming out of the fight alive. Maybe
- 18:28Speaker 3: scratched up pretty decently. Yeah. But I think both of
- 18:31Speaker 3: us were going to survive. I think we're both going
- 18:33Speaker 3: to make it. All right.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Barehanded. Yeah. Very Switzerland answer. Now, if I had a knife. Sorry. Sorry, PETA.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I'm going to have a mountain lion fur coat. Okay.
- 18:45Speaker 2: All right.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Well, there we go. All right.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Nick Underhill, New Orleans South Football. Good enough to join
- 18:49Speaker 4: us every single Tuesday.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Nick, we appreciate it, sir.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yeah, take it easy, guys.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Maybe a rug? A throw rug? Maybe like a bathroom rug.
- 19:00Speaker 3: It could be like a bathroom rug. Or like the
- 19:03Speaker 3: ones that are funky looking. Yeah, you can make a
- 19:06Speaker 3: little rug. But way too small for a coat. Like
- 19:08Speaker 3: a rug with its head still. Right. It's not going
- 19:11Speaker 3: to be a coat. Mountain lions are not very big.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I mean, they're bigger than the average cat.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:17Speaker 3: I mean, they're not bobcats.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Yeah, but they're not fur coat.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Yeah, but they're not, like, fur coat. I feel like
- 19:21Speaker 3: Mountain Lion can be pretty, I mean, substantial. Maybe for
- 19:25Speaker 3: a two-set. Nice cardigan, maybe. I mean, it's a good fight.
- 19:30Speaker 3: It's a good fight. I'm looking it up. But the average,
- 19:35Speaker 3: I'm going to say the average Mountain Lion is what? 180?
- 19:38Speaker 3: Beautiful animals. 150? Male mountain lions, 110 to 220 pounds.
- 19:45Speaker 3: And then females are $ 60.
- 19:50Speaker 1: 140.
- 19:50Speaker 3: It's a big range. So I think it just depends on...
- 19:53Speaker 3: It's a huge range. That's literally... Yeah. Narrow that down, internet.
- 19:58Speaker 3: It could be 200 to 400. Yeah. Okay. I was
- 20:02Speaker 3: thinking the length, but I think they're maybe longer than
- 20:04Speaker 3: I thought. They're a big animal. Okay. They're not human size,
- 20:08Speaker 3: but pretty big. They're... Adorable. A mountain lion is whipping
- 20:13Speaker 3: your ass. I mean, I'm not saying. It's slapping you
- 20:17Speaker 3: and your face is going to just start. I'm not
- 20:19Speaker 3: going to die. I'm not going to be killed. I'll
- 20:23Speaker 3: fight it off. I mean, is that the strategy to
- 20:25Speaker 3: go in? If that's your strategy, you've already lost. You're like,
- 20:28Speaker 3: I'm not going to die. Yeah, I don't know if
- 20:29Speaker 3: that's the fight you go in thinking you're the hammer,
- 20:31Speaker 3: not the nail. I don't know. All right, we're going
- 20:34Speaker 3: to break.
- 20:34Speaker 4: We're going to get you one film clip, a little
- 20:37Speaker 4: preview of Eye in the Sky.
- 20:39Speaker 3: That's coming up later today when we come back here
- 20:41Speaker 3: on OTB. Off the Bench.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn presented
- 20:52Speaker 1: by Community Steel.
- 21:11Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in. Oh, TB. Hey, look.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yes?
- 21:22Speaker 3: My mind just got blown. Not hard to do. A
- 21:27Speaker 3: lot of mountain lion talk last segment, which I appreciate.
- 21:32Speaker 3: You know, I told y'all, we watch a lot of
- 21:34Speaker 3: animal documentaries over at the plant house. Adding a lot
- 21:37Speaker 3: of syllables to a lot of words that don't need
- 21:39Speaker 3: them right now. And I just learned, somebody in the
- 21:44Speaker 3: chat said it, that a mountain lion and a puma
- 21:49Speaker 3: are the same. Not only that, a cougar as well.
- 21:52Speaker 3: I had no idea. Same animal, same creature, just different languages.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Naming different animals different things to different parts of the world.
- 21:58Speaker 3: It's different. I was today years old. And I've watched
- 22:03Speaker 3: a lot of animal documentaries. I didn't know this. Why
- 22:07Speaker 3: are you yelling at us? I'm just using inflection. Because
- 22:14Speaker 3: my mind is blown. That is mind-blowing. I find that fantastic.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I love.
- 22:19Speaker 3: You guys know, I love a puma. You do love
- 22:22Speaker 3: a puma. I love to say puma. I don't like
- 22:24Speaker 3: the way you say it. Puma. Well, that's all. What
- 22:28Speaker 3: was the Houston Cougar's name? Shocker.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Shocker.
- 22:32Speaker 3: I mean, what was that animal's name?
- 22:35Speaker 2: It was like.
- 22:36Speaker 3: It was something. It was something. He got his... He
- 22:41Speaker 3: got his ring finger stuck in the cage. To Shasta
- 22:46Speaker 3: and Sasha. Yeah, Shasta. Shasta's the original one, the OG. Yeah.
- 22:51Speaker 3: And then she lost her finger. Lost her ring finger
- 22:54Speaker 3: in the cage. So now they make fun of the
- 22:57Speaker 3: cat's disability and do the very questionable hand movement. Gotta
- 23:01Speaker 3: call those things out. Always. All right. Are Florida Panthers? No,
- 23:09Speaker 3: the Florida Panthers are not the same. Can't be. I
- 23:12Speaker 3: don't believe that. I refuse to believe it. I like
- 23:16Speaker 3: the Florida Panther, though. They look very similar. Gotta protect them.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Quit building the interstate. They look like they might be
- 23:24Speaker 3: the same thing. We gotta protect the Florida Panthers.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Football. Okay, let's do some football.
- 23:34Speaker 4: All right, here is a little preview of one of
- 23:37Speaker 4: the plays we'll talk about on Eye in the Sky
- 23:39Speaker 4: later today.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Just giving away the product for free. It's a trailer.
- 23:43Speaker 3: It's a trailer.
- 23:45Speaker 4: To what you're going to see later today, subscribe to
- 23:48Speaker 4: Eye in the Sky on YouTube, and then that video
- 23:51Speaker 4: is going to drop a little bit later of.
- 23:53Speaker 3: The LSU A & M game. A lot to like.
- 23:58Speaker 3: You know that we say it all the time, sex sells, right?
- 24:01Speaker 3: It does. And no.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Better way to sell it than with this clip I'm
- 24:06Speaker 3: about to show you. It's a three-yard gain on offense. What?
- 24:11Speaker 3: Are you kidding me? A three-yard gain? Why would you
- 24:13Speaker 3: show us that right now? Well, because a lot has
- 24:16Speaker 3: been said about Sam Levitt recently, about, you know, incredible athlete, whatever. And, like,
- 24:22Speaker 3: we talked about it last week in the film review. Man,
- 24:24Speaker 3: he's just got to slow down. He's got to go
- 24:26Speaker 3: through his progressions. Well, this is early-ish in the game. Well,
- 24:30Speaker 3: first half, four minutes, 16 seconds left in the second quarter.
- 24:34Speaker 3: The game is 7-3 LSU on top, first down and 10.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Let's get to it. We're going to come out in
- 24:41Speaker 3: a 2x2 formation. We're backed up on our own 17-yard line.
- 24:44Speaker 3: We're going to do a short motion with, I would
- 24:46Speaker 3: call this probably the Z receiver. We have Dylan Jones
- 24:51Speaker 3: lined up to the right. 2x2 formation, so two receivers
- 24:55Speaker 3: to the right, two receivers to the left. Motion the
- 24:57Speaker 3: guy from the short side of the play. And we
- 24:59Speaker 3: are going to run, I'm going to draw this up
- 25:01Speaker 3: here before we play it. It's what I would call
- 25:04Speaker 3: a all go hinge. So he's going to run a
- 25:06Speaker 3: hinge route. He's going to run a seam route. He
- 25:08Speaker 3: right here going to run a drive route or a
- 25:12Speaker 3: shallow cross. This would be all go hinge Z drive.
- 25:16Speaker 3: That's what I would call it. He's going to run
- 25:17Speaker 3: a basic cross and he's going to check protection and
- 25:20Speaker 3: come backside and run a little flare out right there. Okay.
- 25:22Speaker 3: So here's the easy progression. These are, this is a
- 25:25Speaker 3: progression with an alert. To it. This is how I
- 25:28Speaker 3: call it. It's not a pure progression. Progression with an alert.
- 25:30Speaker 3: What do you alert for? Well, you're alert for an easy.
- 25:33Speaker 3: I'm going to do a little at sign for the alert.
- 25:35Speaker 3: You're alert here for a cover three. Maybe it's a quarter.
- 25:38Speaker 3: It's just a one, two, three. It's a pre-snap read.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I'm going to go. I'm going to throw my, just
- 25:43Speaker 3: my five yard hitch route to the bottom or seven
- 25:45Speaker 3: yard hinge route, whatever you want to call it. Or
- 25:47Speaker 3: I can be alert for the seam route. If it's
- 25:49Speaker 3: cover three, cover three, it's another alert. So we got
- 25:52Speaker 3: two alerts right here, depending on coverage. If those aren't there,
- 25:55Speaker 3: what I'm going to do is I'm going to take
- 25:56Speaker 3: my drop back. And I'm going to read out my drive,
- 25:59Speaker 3: my drive side. My drive side is a shallow cross
- 26:01Speaker 3: is going to be number one.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:03Speaker 3: And then we go to the basic cross number two.
- 26:05Speaker 3: And then my outlet, if he gets out, if there's
- 26:09Speaker 3: not a protection situation, outlet number three. So we're alert
- 26:12Speaker 3: down low. We read out the play. Now this is
- 26:14Speaker 3: the problem with Sam is he has like kind of skipped.
- 26:18Speaker 3: He'd go to his alert. It's not there. He kind
- 26:20Speaker 3: of skips over number one. So we've seen it to
- 26:23Speaker 3: where Sam has been like looking at like, his number
- 26:27Speaker 3: one read when he's like right here, not over here. Right.
- 26:30Speaker 3: And number two, but like right here before he even
- 26:32Speaker 3: gets to his break and he's skipping past those guys. Okay. So, um,
- 26:36Speaker 3: he's been too fast. He's got to slow his reads down.
- 26:38Speaker 3: So let's go ahead and play out the place so
- 26:40Speaker 3: you can see the entire thing. And then we'll show
- 26:42Speaker 3: it from the back and we'll show you his eyes.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Okay.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Shall it cross not there or the drive, the basic cross,
- 26:47Speaker 3: not there. And we get it to our outlet for
- 26:49Speaker 3: three yards. For three yards. It's a three-yard gain, but
- 26:53Speaker 3: it's a first down play. Guess what? Now you're second
- 26:56Speaker 3: and seventh, second and sixth, whatever it is. You can
- 26:58Speaker 3: see it from back here that there wasn't anything. They
- 27:02Speaker 3: do play a form of cover three. I'd call this
- 27:04Speaker 3: like a three-match situation where you're kind of still playing
- 27:07Speaker 3: man-to-man with these guys, but he's going to have like
- 27:09Speaker 3: a hook. These guys are going to play like he's
- 27:11Speaker 3: going to have the curl flat. He's going to back up.
- 27:13Speaker 3: So they're going to play zone like inside and then
- 27:17Speaker 3: match the guys to the wide side of the field. Okay.
- 27:21Speaker 3: And there's, there's strengths and weaknesses to that, but this
- 27:23Speaker 3: guy's taken away. You got, you got your seam. It's
- 27:27Speaker 3: not there because although it looks like cover three, they
- 27:30Speaker 3: play it like man. So the seam's not there. So
- 27:33Speaker 3: you got to come down and watch this. So this
- 27:35Speaker 3: end right here, this end right here drops. So it
- 27:39Speaker 3: screws up the shallow cross coming. So he's got to
- 27:41Speaker 3: kind of like weave in and his timing gets thrown off.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Okay.
- 27:45Speaker 3: So you're going to see it. The shallow cross is
- 27:48Speaker 3: not going to be open. The basic cross is not
- 27:50Speaker 3: going to be open. It's your outlet. Play on time. Now,
- 27:55Speaker 3: if you wait there for the shallow cross, maybe, but
- 27:57Speaker 3: that's not the play. That's not how you read it out.
- 28:00Speaker 3: So you're going to come, you're going to see here,
- 28:01Speaker 3: they got kind of a three down front. We've seen
- 28:03Speaker 3: this a little bit since Louisiana Tech had some success
- 28:05Speaker 3: with it, but you're still going to count these guys.
- 28:08Speaker 3: You're going to count these guys as your down linemen. One, two, three, four.
- 28:11Speaker 3: Then you're going to probably block one more. So they
- 28:13Speaker 3: might've gone here. The linemen are going to have those five.
- 28:16Speaker 3: Harlan Berry is going to have Or not Harlan Berry.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Dylan Joe's going to have everybody else. So he's going
- 28:20Speaker 3: to look around. He's going to get out. I love this.
- 28:23Speaker 3: We always talk about the stripe on the helmet. Yep.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Watch the stripe of the quarterback. That's where you can
- 28:28Speaker 3: tell where his eyes are. Okay, look. Right here, early on.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Where's his eyes? They're right there.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Okay?
- 28:35Speaker 3: You go forward a little bit. Right here. He's right
- 28:40Speaker 3: here looking at his number one and number two receivers.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Right down the middle of the field. He He's already
- 28:48Speaker 3: said it, so he's looked at number one. He's looking
- 28:50Speaker 3: at number two right now. It's not there. A week ago,
- 28:53Speaker 3: two weeks ago, he's taken off running. Right now. Right now.
- 28:55Speaker 3: And he hadn't even looked. He's kind of scanned the
- 28:58Speaker 3: field before. He gets there. It's not open. Check it down.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Get three yards, maybe even four. Go to the next
- 29:07Speaker 3: play on schedule. Get the guys in space. Who knows?
- 29:10Speaker 3: Maybe you break that tackle for eight, nine yards. I
- 29:12Speaker 3: saw this multiple times throughout the game. Excited to see it.
- 29:17Speaker 3: It was like I saw that play and I was like, oh,
- 29:19Speaker 3: my God, that is awesome. He did this a couple
- 29:21Speaker 3: of different times. He did it. I think I got
- 29:23Speaker 3: I have my three or four of these. Now, some
- 29:26Speaker 3: of them are eight, nine yard gains. But this one
- 29:28Speaker 3: was three yards. But it told me a much bigger
- 29:31Speaker 3: story than just three yards on the field. And I
- 29:34Speaker 3: believe this might even be before his hamstring was hurting.
- 29:37Speaker 3: So we can't put it all on just the hamstring situation.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Now I think it helped slow him down even more,
- 29:43Speaker 3: but this was like, okay, Sam gets it. He knows
- 29:46Speaker 3: he has to improve. He knows he has to get
- 29:49Speaker 3: through his progressions and you can't blame it all on protection.
- 29:53Speaker 3: You can't blame it on just because he's got a
- 29:55Speaker 3: clean pocket. Sam's not the first person to play the
- 29:58Speaker 3: quarterback position because When pressure. With not a clean pocket
- 30:02Speaker 3: every single play. You have to navigate the pocket. You
- 30:05Speaker 3: saw Case Keenum do it yesterday. Guy hadn't played in
- 30:07Speaker 3: three years. You saw him do it. He got pressure
- 30:10Speaker 3: in his feet the whole time. There's ways to navigate
- 30:12Speaker 3: the pressure. So don't blame him being fast and going
- 30:15Speaker 3: through his reads fast and missing guys fast because of
- 30:20Speaker 3: protection issues. That's not the problem. Yeah, sometimes it is.
- 30:23Speaker 3: It's a team sport. But a lot of times those
- 30:25Speaker 3: pressure issues were on him. and he knows this yes
- 30:29Speaker 3: so these are so he and even when he had
- 30:31Speaker 3: a clean pocket it's not like he was going through
- 30:32Speaker 3: his reads so this play right here showed me there
- 30:36Speaker 3: is improvement there is a bright future for him i
- 30:39Speaker 3: believe if he can continue this and maintain doing these
- 30:42Speaker 3: things when that hamstring gets healthy still hit the same
- 30:46Speaker 3: person yeah it's there so take it so i was
- 30:48Speaker 3: excited watching this i was excited i didn't i don't
- 30:51Speaker 3: even think i put a lot of negative plays from
- 30:53Speaker 3: there wasn't a lot of like really negative play. There
- 30:55Speaker 3: was a lot of kind of boring plays. There wasn't
- 30:56Speaker 3: like really teaching moments and a lot of the running game,
- 30:58Speaker 3: not a ton of the run, but a lot more
- 31:01Speaker 3: on this and a lot more to get to on
- 31:03Speaker 3: the offense and deep at the side of the ball
- 31:05Speaker 3: on eye in the sky a little bit later today.

- 32:31Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn, presented
- 32:35Speaker 1: by Community Steel.
- 32:45Speaker 2: All you've got is a small hint 21st century is
- 32:50Speaker 2: yesterday You can care all you want Everybody does, yeah,
- 32:53Speaker 2: that's okay So slide over here and give me a
- 32:58Speaker 2: moment Your needs are so raw I've got to let
- 33:01Speaker 2: you know I've got to let you know.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Hello. What is happening, youths? I can't say it to you,
- 33:26Speaker 3: you're old. Youths? Yep. Oh, can we say it to y'all?
- 33:29Speaker 3: I don't think I'm a youth anymore. Yeah, I don't
- 33:32Speaker 3: think so either. I'm sorry. The youths.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I mean, I'm younger than you.
- 33:36Speaker 3: I mean, hell, I'm the oldest person in this building, probably.
- 33:41Speaker 3: By far. Got you by a month, to be fair.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I got you by a month. You've always been bragging
- 33:49Speaker 3: about that, man. Don't take it back now.
- 33:51Speaker 4: That's good. I can't.
- 33:52Speaker 3: I can't. That's a very good point. That's a very
- 33:54Speaker 3: good point.
- 33:55Speaker 4: I want to remind you about our friends over at
- 33:56Speaker 4: Bayou Automotive. BayouAutomotive.com is the website for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep,
- 34:01Speaker 4: and also Ram. A little bit of something for everybody
- 34:03Speaker 4: down in La Paz, Louisiana. Very quick drive down to
- 34:06Speaker 4: La Paz. But if you can't make.
- 34:08Speaker 3: It, that's okay. You can buy your vehicle at BayouAutomotive.com.
- 34:11Speaker 4: They'll actually deliver your vehicle to you once you buy
- 34:13Speaker 4: from Bayou Automotive. and you need routine maintenance like an
- 34:16Speaker 4: oil change, they'll come pick your vehicle up, give you
- 34:18Speaker 4: a loaner vehicle, then bring your vehicle back to you
- 34:20Speaker 4: here in the capital city. A great service that they
- 34:22Speaker 4: have over at Bayou Automotive. Go to bayouautomotive.com. I did
- 34:28Speaker 4: like what you were talking about with some of the
- 34:30Speaker 4: protection stuff there because, again, you can't just eye hustle
- 34:34Speaker 4: somebody else's analytics of how many times a quarterback was
- 34:38Speaker 4: pressured and think that it was only a clean pocket. Now,
- 34:40Speaker 4: did Ole Miss have some success, you know, In the
- 34:43Speaker 4: interior of your offensive line, they did.
- 34:45Speaker 3: That's why you made a move.
- 34:46Speaker 4: But there's so many things that a quarterback can do
- 34:49Speaker 4: to manipulate the pocket. There's so many things a quarterback
- 34:51Speaker 4: can do within a bad pocket, like take a hit
- 34:54Speaker 4: but know that you have to stand tall and deliver
- 34:57Speaker 4: the football. Those are all going to be things on
- 35:00Speaker 4: the quarterback. It's not always going to be super clean.
- 35:04Speaker 4: But even in a dirty pocket, there's a window to find.
- 35:09Speaker 3: And you don't have to be super athletic to find it.
- 35:12Speaker 4: I'm not throwing too much shade, but my guy Peyton
- 35:15Speaker 4: Manning wasn't the most fleet of foot.
- 35:17Speaker 3: But he was so elite in his pocket movement. So
- 35:20Speaker 3: was Phillip Rivers.
- 35:21Speaker 4: And Aaron Rodgers is more athletic than those two guys,
- 35:23Speaker 4: but I'm just saying guys that wouldn't be considered burners.
- 35:27Speaker 3: But in the pocket, they were super.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Athletic because they would find little creases and spaces to
- 35:32Speaker 4: get themselves into. And they're big guys, but they would
- 35:35Speaker 4: find a crease to get into just so they could
- 35:36Speaker 4: deliver the football and then take a hit.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Right. Like, that's on the quarterback. And playing the quarterback's position,
- 35:42Speaker 3: of course, you can't control everything, right? If a guy
- 35:45Speaker 3: misses a block up the middle, yeah, it's hard to
- 35:47Speaker 3: go through your progressions. It's impossible.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:50Speaker 3: But you also, because they missed the block in the
- 35:52Speaker 3: first quarter, doesn't mean you can rush and not play
- 35:56Speaker 3: the position the way you're supposed to in the second quarter. Right?
- 35:59Speaker 3: So that's kind of my point. It's like, Sam, it
- 36:02Speaker 3: was– It wasn't just pressure was why he was rushing everything.
- 36:08Speaker 3: He needed to improve. He needed to slow his mind
- 36:11Speaker 3: down and just know. And he knows. He's a tough kid.
- 36:14Speaker 3: We all know that he's gritty and tough and super athletic.
- 36:18Speaker 3: But you also, as a passer, you got to just
- 36:20Speaker 3: know sometimes you are going to throw the ball and
- 36:24Speaker 3: get hit right in the face. Right in it. Right
- 36:26Speaker 3: in the chest. Whatever it is. You're going to get hit.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Someone's going to come in and elbow you in the
- 36:31Speaker 3: rib cage and crack a couple. Like, that's fine. Whatever.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Let him.
- 36:36Speaker 4: The timing of if we went back last week and
- 36:38Speaker 4: watched him go through his progressions, and just, like, the jitters.
- 36:43Speaker 4: And I'm not saying, like, jitters like you're nervous, but, like,
- 36:44Speaker 4: just like a little jackrabbit back there because, you know,
- 36:47Speaker 4: he knows he can run.
- 36:48Speaker 3: But, like, it was so quick.
- 36:50Speaker 4: And in this game, it felt like it was just
- 36:53Speaker 4: very slow, very methodical.
- 36:55Speaker 3: And just boom, read, read, read. And he made some
- 36:57Speaker 3: of the best throws of the season. And it was all, like,
- 37:01Speaker 3: in the same pace. You know what I'm saying? Like,
- 37:03Speaker 3: nothing was sped up.
- 37:04Speaker 4: The entire process went through the same space of going
- 37:07Speaker 4: through your reads and then calmly delivering the football, too.
- 37:10Speaker 3: Now, I'd still like to see his drop back footwork
- 37:13Speaker 3: get better.
- 37:14Speaker 4: It's still sloppy, but he's... I think that's more of, like,
- 37:17Speaker 4: what's being taught today's quarterback than anything, too.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Yes and no. It can be cleaned up, for sure.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Yes and no. He's still speeding up his drop back
- 37:25Speaker 3: a little much, but he's a lot slower at the top.
- 37:27Speaker 3: At the top of his drop back. And not... And again, hyperactive...
- 37:31Speaker 3: Little jackrabbit back there, whatever. Nothing that we're saying has
- 37:34Speaker 3: anything to do with how tough we think Sam is.
- 37:37Speaker 3: Because the dude seems to be tough as nails. It's
- 37:41Speaker 3: just training. You've got to train yourself. And it seems
- 37:44Speaker 3: like he's done it. And we've seen people do it.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I talked about the progression that Jaden Daniels made when
- 37:48Speaker 3: he was here. Playing quarterback, not very good. Now making
- 37:53Speaker 3: plays and being a playmaker, and you see these flashes
- 37:56Speaker 3: of greatness. But then you see, man, Jaden can't get
- 37:59Speaker 3: to a second read. He doesn't know where a check
- 38:02Speaker 3: down is. He's taking off running a lot of the
- 38:04Speaker 3: same stuff. But then all of a sudden, boom, it
- 38:06Speaker 3: was like a light switch went off. And all of
- 38:09Speaker 3: a sudden, the guy's the best quarterback, the best player
- 38:12Speaker 3: in the entire country. And then goes off to have
- 38:14Speaker 3: the greatest NFL rookie season that anybody's ever seen. And
- 38:18Speaker 3: a year and a half before that, couldn't get to
- 38:20Speaker 3: his second progression. And so, like, it can be done.
- 38:23Speaker 3: And hopefully this is the start of it being done
- 38:26Speaker 3: with Sam because he's got the skill set to do it.
- 38:29Speaker 3: He can work on some footwork things. He can work
- 38:31Speaker 3: on a little throw mechanical things. But, my God, I mean,
- 38:34Speaker 3: he's got the good stuff. He was making the hard
- 38:37Speaker 3: stuff look easy, and sometimes the easy stuff look hard. Yeah.
- 38:41Speaker 3: That's a good thing. If you're a coach, that's a
- 38:43Speaker 3: good problem to have. Yep.
- 38:46Speaker 4: And it was good to see how quickly those improvements
- 38:49Speaker 4: were made. And we're not talking about improvements against directional
- 38:53Speaker 4: school U.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Do I think Texas A & M is going to
- 38:55Speaker 3: be a great football team? No, I don't.
- 38:57Speaker 4: But still– They've got a lot of Jimmys and Joes
- 38:59Speaker 4: that are NFL players on the other side of the football.
- 39:02Speaker 4: And the fact that you were able to go from
- 39:04Speaker 4: what it was the week before to what it was
- 39:07Speaker 4: on Saturday, that's very impressive.
- 39:10Speaker 3: And so now.
- 39:12Speaker 4: How much can you continue to develop and grow that
- 39:15Speaker 4: as the schedule gets only more difficult? All right, we're
- 39:18Speaker 4: going to take our last break of the show. Put

- 40:39Speaker 1: by Community.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Steel. Hey, Matt. Yo, what up?
- 40:54Speaker 4: If I want to feel like my youthful self again,
- 40:56Speaker 4: if I want to have my first step back, is
- 40:58Speaker 4: there somewhere here in Louisiana, maybe even if I was in.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Mississippi, that I could go? It might sound impossible. But
- 41:06Speaker 3: it's not. How would it be possible? Rejuvenate Medical. That
- 41:10Speaker 3: would make it possible? There's actually 13 locations across the
- 41:13Speaker 3: state of Louisiana, and one, like you said, in Mississippi.
- 41:15Speaker 3: So if you listen to us in Shreveport? Oh, yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 3: they got one. And it's great. It's medically staffed, great people,
- 41:23Speaker 3: ready to help you. I think I should check that out.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Where would I find that information at? RejuvenateMedical.com. If you
- 41:29Speaker 3: want peptide therapy, maybe a little Botox, Brotox, maybe a little.
- 41:33Speaker 3: Struggling with some weight loss, whatever that is, maybe a
- 41:36Speaker 3: hormone replacement therapy. That's what a little testosterone, um, men
- 41:40Speaker 3: out there that starts the body starts to produce less
- 41:43Speaker 3: and less as you age and sometimes faster than others.
- 41:46Speaker 3: It's not about being like, you know, back in the day,
- 41:49Speaker 3: people used to like get testosterone on the black market
- 41:52Speaker 3: out there and be like, hi, test bro. That's not
- 41:55Speaker 3: about that. It's about being those normal levels for your
- 41:59Speaker 3: age to get you feeling the way you should. Um,
- 42:02Speaker 3: And so, you know, I love the people over there.
- 42:06Speaker 3: I go there. I am a customer. And I'm feeling great. Yeah,
- 42:11Speaker 3: so am I. So is Alondra. Team OTB always over

- 42:16Speaker 4: All right, hashtag Ask the Bench brought to you by
- 42:19Speaker 4: Dos Equis.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Go for a dose.
- 42:21Speaker 4: Matt, how much milk would you be telling Sam to
- 42:23Speaker 4: drink per day?
- 42:25Speaker 3: At least a glass. At least a glass. Minimum a glass.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Don't let it have an almond in it. I respect.
- 42:30Speaker 3: I want the cow's milk. I respect his routine. I do.
- 42:34Speaker 3: The blue light glasses. I respect the diet and everything.
- 42:37Speaker 3: But there's also parts that I would respect more. Just
- 42:42Speaker 3: add a couple beers in there. Add some milk. Maybe
- 42:47Speaker 3: go out a couple times. Yeah, I agree with that.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Let your hair down a little bit. You're young. Hey,
- 42:52Speaker 3: we always talk about it. You got to get calloused
- 42:54Speaker 3: a little bit. You got to be calloused a little bit. Okay.
- 42:57Speaker 3: Can't pamper yourself too much. Hashtag ask the bench Flynn.
- 43:01Speaker 4: What is one thing you were taught in the NFL
- 43:03Speaker 4: and in college that you can tell isn't taught in
- 43:05Speaker 4: either anymore?
- 43:08Speaker 3: Footwork, footwork, footwork, footwork, footwork. And did I say footwork?
- 43:13Speaker 3: You did. Pre-snap recognition with things. Again, pre-snap recognition, post-snap reaction.
- 43:19Speaker 3: That's what I think a lot of times in the
- 43:21Speaker 3: college game, people are too reliant on their coaches to
- 43:24Speaker 3: tell them what to do pre-snap and wanting to have
- 43:28Speaker 3: an exact answer for everything. What we saw last night
- 43:31Speaker 3: with a guy that hadn't played in three years, you
- 43:34Speaker 3: can get your team in the right situation on the field.
- 43:37Speaker 3: You don't have to rely. So that's some of the things.
- 43:40Speaker 3: You learn what the defense does. You cross-train with defensive coaches.
- 43:44Speaker 3: You learn the why of what they do. But footwork.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Hashtag ask the bench if I can get a company
- 43:51Speaker 4: to advertise on the sole of Flynn's left shoe that's
- 43:55Speaker 4: always on the desk and I get 50% of the
- 43:58Speaker 4: deal on top of a 5% finder's fee.
- 44:00Speaker 3: No, because I didn't get anything for Dos Equis. That's true.
- 44:04Speaker 3: That's true. That's a good idea, though. Look at there.
- 44:09Speaker 3: That's prime real estate. We didn't get anything for Poncho either.
- 44:13Speaker 3: That was us bringing it to them. You get talent
- 44:15Speaker 3: for it. Touche.
- 44:20Speaker 4: Very, very, very, very, very little because we have to
- 44:23Speaker 4: split it.
- 44:24Speaker 3: That's a whole deal. But yes.
- 44:28Speaker 4: Hey, what if these guys made 15% and y'all made
- 44:30Speaker 4: seven and a half?
- 44:31Speaker 3: Oh, that's cool.
- 44:35Speaker 4: Hashtag ask the bench. Are we sure Sam injured his hamstring?
- 44:39Speaker 4: I mean, he didn't even cry or need a card
- 44:41Speaker 4: to get off the field.
- 44:42Speaker 3: That's a good point. Really good point. Caleb didn't know her.
- 44:50Speaker 3: After the whole walking around during the national anthem thing,
- 44:54Speaker 3: he's going to have to do a lot of work
- 44:56Speaker 3: to get me back. Damn. Damn. Alondra wallet blocking. No,
- 45:03Speaker 3: Alondra's not wallet blocking. She's right, though. She did bring
- 45:05Speaker 3: one of our longstanding sponsors here. Just cut her a
- 45:10Speaker 3: little check. Oh, we're asking. Help me help you type situation,
- 45:18Speaker 3: you know?
- 45:20Speaker 4: Hashtag, would you drink milk directly from the source like
- 45:23Speaker 4: T-Bob talked about?
- 45:25Speaker 2: No. No.
- 45:26Speaker 3: T-Bob would say some outlandish stuff. They pasteurize things. They
- 45:29Speaker 3: got the technology. I'm going to use it. We love you.
- 45:31Speaker 3: We thank you. Go America.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Off the bench.
