- 0:00Speaker 1: Crack an avalanche coming up here and back now with
- 0:01Speaker 1: cracket head coach Lane Lambert and Lane. It seems like
- 0:03Speaker 1: that it's that time of year right now where more
- 0:06Speaker 1: meds are on the menu here to essentially combat illness.
- 0:09Speaker 1: So how valuable first off, can your support staff be
- 0:11Speaker 1: to get as many guys back on the right path,
- 0:13Speaker 1: whether it's be a hands on approach or just their
- 0:16Speaker 1: intel as well.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know, obviously, like you said, there's there's illness,
- 0:21Speaker 2: but I think it. You know, there's illness going throughout
- 0:24Speaker 2: the league, right and you know, you see on a
- 0:28Speaker 2: nightly basis, you know two or three guys from each
- 0:30Speaker 2: team that are you know, out maybe because of illness.
- 0:34Speaker 2: But what you don't see is you know, the other
- 0:36Speaker 2: six or eight guys that we had the other night
- 0:38Speaker 2: that we're playing and we're sick. You know. So that
- 0:41Speaker 2: support staff is huge for us in terms of trying
- 0:43Speaker 2: to get these guys healthy as much as possible, do
- 0:47Speaker 2: the right things and combat it, you know, sort of
- 0:50Speaker 2: be a little bit more proactive than reactive. But certainly
- 0:54Speaker 2: this is the time of year for this kind of
- 0:56Speaker 2: thing right now.
- 0:57Speaker 1: We often hear more and more of these days that
- 1:00Speaker 1: is a weapon, and there's five games here to play
- 1:02Speaker 1: in this next week before the holidays. So to you,
- 1:05Speaker 1: how much has this game changed over the years, what
- 1:07Speaker 1: is approached to rest time and rest days as well.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I think it's changed a lot, to be honest with you,
- 1:14Speaker 2: which is really kind of strange, because you know, back
- 1:18Speaker 2: in the old days when I was playing, we used
- 1:20Speaker 2: to fly commercial, so it would stay overnight after the game,
- 1:23Speaker 2: get up, go to the airport, go through security, all
- 1:26Speaker 2: that stuff. Now we just jump on a plane and
- 1:28Speaker 2: we're gone, you know, And so they feel like we
- 1:32Speaker 2: even practiced a little bit more back then. But the
- 1:35Speaker 2: schedule right now, the travel, you know how demanding it
- 1:39Speaker 2: is on the players and each individual game itself. You
- 1:45Speaker 2: have to put everything you have into that. And it's
- 1:49Speaker 2: one thing that you know, I want fans to understand
- 1:52Speaker 2: is that, you know, they're giving everything they have and
- 1:57Speaker 2: at the end of the game, they're spent, and so
- 2:00Speaker 2: the rest ratio is super important. You know, we practiced yesterday,
- 2:05Speaker 2: which was our in between day. You know, who knows
- 2:09Speaker 2: what we're going to do tomorrow, and you know, and
- 2:12Speaker 2: in San Jose and then again in Anaheim because we
- 2:15Speaker 2: play so many games that if you don't have energy
- 2:18Speaker 2: for the game, you'd decrease your chances of winning right
- 2:21Speaker 2: off the hawk.
- 2:22Speaker 1: If we can go back to the penalty kill. On Sunday,
- 2:24Speaker 1: they get two or two against Buffalo, which in theory
- 2:26Speaker 1: is good of course for no goals allowed. But what
- 2:28Speaker 1: are you noticing about how the fores and defensemen are
- 2:31Speaker 1: reacting to what's been thrown at them.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Yeah, they're doing good. We changed it clearly needed to,
- 2:39Speaker 2: you know, and it was to the point where, you know,
- 2:44Speaker 2: you hate to change something on an in between day
- 2:48Speaker 2: and make it a real significant change. But we just
- 2:52Speaker 2: weren't able to grasp the concepts that we wanted to
- 2:56Speaker 2: go with, and so we've had to make some adjustments
- 2:59Speaker 2: to that. I think those adjustments have put more onus
- 3:04Speaker 2: on our defense and less onus on our forwards. And
- 3:08Speaker 2: so what we've done is we've tried to take our
- 3:11Speaker 2: veteran defensemen and make them have more of the reads
- 3:16Speaker 2: than our young forwards, some guys that haven't even killed
- 3:19Speaker 2: in this league before, or killed very minimally in this league,
- 3:23Speaker 2: and we're continuing to make mistakes, and so we've had
- 3:27Speaker 2: to make that adjustment.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You must to say Colorado is rolling right now. And
- 3:31Speaker 1: we talk with Brandon Monteur the other day about Nathan
- 3:34Speaker 1: McKinnon saying that he'll get his chances, but close attention
- 3:37Speaker 1: matters when it comes to defensive covers. So what's the
- 3:39Speaker 1: mindset you want the guys going out with here for tonight?
- 3:42Speaker 2: Uh? Well, I mean, we obviously have to be aware
- 3:45Speaker 2: of these guys. They're dynamic. You know they will get chances.
- 3:49Speaker 2: We have to give them this few chances as possible.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Our mindset is pay close attention to those guys, don't
- 3:55Speaker 2: give them too much time and space than in saying
- 3:58Speaker 2: that that doesn't mean you're backing up. We've got to play.
- 4:01Speaker 2: We've got to play north, we've got to play on
- 4:03Speaker 2: the attack, and you know we don't want to be
- 4:07Speaker 2: on our heels. So this is clearly the best hockey
- 4:11Speaker 2: team in the league by a mile by right now.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You know, McKinnon's already plus forty usually, you know, plus
- 4:19Speaker 2: forty wins the plus minus over an eighty two game schedule.
- 4:23Speaker 2: It's mind bloodling to me what this team has done
- 4:26Speaker 2: so far with two regulation losses. It's going to be
- 4:30Speaker 2: a great challenge for us, and we're looking forward to
- 4:33Speaker 2: it
