- 0:49Speaker 1: Hi Catherine, Hi Chelsea. Hello. I excuse my stuffiness. I
- 0:53Speaker 1: sound like I have post nasal drip, which is what
- 0:55Speaker 1: I have.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Damn I have happens? Yes, are you getting us our
- 0:58Speaker 2: throat from it? That always does that time?
- 0:59Speaker 1: No covering from something else I've had ongoing issues all year.
- 1:03Speaker 1: I don't know what my problem is, but I uh
- 1:06Speaker 1: now it's post nasal drip. So I sat last night,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I got my eyebrows tattooed on.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Oh oh so that was like a.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Three hour excursion, and thank you. I yeah, I hopefully
- 1:17Speaker 1: this will save me lots of time.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:19Speaker 3: And I feel like the best thing you can say
- 1:21Speaker 3: is like, I didn't notice that.
- 1:23Speaker 2: You got your eyebrows tattooed on. Yes, Like that's kind
- 1:26Speaker 2: of where you want them to land.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I think they just filled in the hot spots, yeah,
- 1:29Speaker 1: or the not so hot spots right right. So it
- 1:31Speaker 1: was a lot arduous process. I'm glad it's over. While
- 1:34Speaker 1: I was no, I mean, I guess it's slightly uncomfortable.
- 1:38Speaker 1: I wouldn't say I wouldn't categorize it as hurting. It's
- 1:41Speaker 1: not like pleasant, sure, but it's not unbarrelable or something. Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Sure.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But as I was lying there, she identified my post
- 1:49Speaker 1: nasal drip because I kept when you're lying down, you're like,
- 1:53Speaker 1: she is my constant thing. And she was like, oh,
- 1:55Speaker 1: you have post nasal drip. And I was like, oh,
- 1:56Speaker 1: you're right, I do have post nasal drip. That's what
- 1:58Speaker 1: I have.
- 2:00Speaker 2: So a tattoo and a diagnosis.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah exactly, she said, it's you're my first tattoo. I
- 2:04Speaker 1: didn't realize that your eyebrows are tattoos, Like can you
- 2:07Speaker 1: get But that's exactly what it is.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Yeah, the micro needling or micro no micro blading. My
- 2:11Speaker 3: micro needling is a different.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Thing, but micro blading is tattooing.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I think so because I always see all these girls
- 2:17Speaker 3: on TikTok being like, oh my micro blading that they
- 2:19Speaker 3: said would disappear in a year, and it's five years
- 2:21Speaker 3: later and it's still here sort of thing.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I want it to last for five years. I
- 2:25Speaker 1: don't want to have to rejuge this. I agreed anyway,
- 2:28Speaker 1: So that was that was exciting. I had a fun
- 2:30Speaker 1: weekend of shows. We have Portland and Seattle this weekend,
- 2:32Speaker 1: which is so easy breezy because I stay on the
- 2:34Speaker 1: same coast. I love that. And then I'm heading to
- 2:38Speaker 1: you know, the East Coast summertime jams, Hiatus Poort, Cape
- 2:42Speaker 1: Cod Melody, tent Nantucket. I'm going to bring Yaminika to Nantucket.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So they introduced to a black woman there because the
- 2:50Speaker 1: last time I was there, there were no black people
- 2:52Speaker 1: will be their first one. So yeah, we need to
- 2:53Speaker 1: bring some more black people to Nantucket.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Perfect. I have a crazy story for you.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Is it about the mayoral race in LA Thank god,
- 3:01Speaker 1: thank god Spencer Pretz out of that.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Thank God. I'm very glad about that. I will.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I kind of like had forgotten that it was a
- 3:08Speaker 3: primary and it was not going to be all of them.
- 3:10Speaker 3: But I'm like, if I vote for Nitia, is that
- 3:14Speaker 3: going to mean Spencer, It's going to be Spencer whatever,
- 3:16Speaker 3: Like I didn't want to anyway, we knew we're gonna
- 3:19Speaker 3: have Karen basson there.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So I'm starting to understand that LA is just completely
- 3:23Speaker 1: mismanaged from within. Like I think that anyone in a
- 3:28Speaker 1: mayoral position in this city has a whole council board
- 3:31Speaker 1: that they have to deal with, and it's not easy
- 3:34Speaker 1: to get anything done in this city. So we need
- 3:36Speaker 1: to change things from the inside out, Like something different
- 3:39Speaker 1: has to happen in the way things are. There's too
- 3:41Speaker 1: much bureaucracy. So it's it's it's really hard to be
- 3:44Speaker 1: a successful mayor in this city.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Right because you can't win right, Like you can't side
- 3:48Speaker 3: with the people in power or like the police or
- 3:51Speaker 3: anything like that. But you also need, like you need
- 3:53Speaker 3: to make systemic change if you're going to make any
- 3:54Speaker 3: change at all in the city.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Like, yeah, it's well, I'm going to support I've been
- 4:00Speaker 1: supporting her, and at least I don't know, you know,
- 4:03Speaker 1: I just have to like have hope in the city
- 4:05Speaker 1: that we could turn things around. I'm so grateful that
- 4:10Speaker 1: Spencer Pratt is just no longer in involved in this.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I don't want to hear that for another five months.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Yeah, Nitya, like she's been in it, like since the beginning.
- 4:18Speaker 3: She's from the ground up. She I forget what exactly happened,
- 4:22Speaker 3: but when she was first running for like city council member,
- 4:26Speaker 3: something happened where she was planning to campaign for like
- 4:28Speaker 3: six months, and then it wound up like the vote
- 4:31Speaker 3: got delayed or whatever, so she had to campaign for
- 4:33Speaker 3: like two years or something, and then she finally got it.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Like, you know, everybody has their flaws.
- 4:38Speaker 3: But I think she's like actually somebody who's in it
- 4:40Speaker 3: to make positive change wherever she can.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So yeah, well they're not all I mean, yeah, they're
- 4:45Speaker 1: all Like I had so many people saying, what about
- 4:48Speaker 1: the dogs on skid Row what about the dogs on
- 4:49Speaker 1: skid Row. I'm like, I'm sorry, are we voting for like,
- 4:52Speaker 1: are we not voting for human beings here?
- 4:54Speaker 2: Right?
- 4:54Speaker 1: Like that can't be the biggest problem in this city.
- 4:58Speaker 1: The dogs on skid row. Yes, that's terrible. We all
- 5:00Speaker 1: know that I love to rescue dogs, but that's not
- 5:03Speaker 1: the number one issue here. There's people before the dogs
- 5:06Speaker 1: that we have to be worried about. There's almost fifty.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Square blocks of people on skid row, Like, it's enormous.
- 5:12Speaker 3: There's a lot of there's a lot of systemic changes,
- 5:14Speaker 3: and she's very like pro figuring out what shoes and
- 5:19Speaker 3: like providing services and.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, well okay, Yeah, that's what I liked about her,
- 5:25Speaker 1: that it's we're down fifty four percent in her district.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And I had people that live in her district that
- 5:29Speaker 1: loved her also people that didn't love her, but whatever.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Yeah we did. We were in our district when she
- 5:34Speaker 5: first came around.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Yeah, she was in our district. We voted her from
- 5:37Speaker 2: from the way beginning.
- 5:39Speaker 5: I mean, look, politicians are problematic, but she's got degrees
- 5:42Speaker 5: in political theory and urban planning from both Harvard and MIT.
- 5:46Speaker 5: I mean, she's way more qualified than any of these
- 5:49Speaker 5: other fucks that are around. And she's a woman and
- 5:52Speaker 5: we love that.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And we have a very exciting guest today. You know
- 5:55Speaker 1: her from SNL and just like that and the Scary
- 5:59Speaker 1: Movie franchise, which I'm seeing everywhere. You can also catch
- 6:02Speaker 1: her in Celebrity Autobiography in New York City from June
- 6:05Speaker 1: twenty ninth through July sixth. Please welcome Cherio Terry. Okay,
- 6:10Speaker 1: this is great. We have Cherio Terry is in the
- 6:12Speaker 1: house and she's sitting in very close proximity to me
- 6:15Speaker 1: because we're on a podcast, and that's what you do.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Not like when we were at the Netflix brunch where
- 6:21Speaker 1: I sat down very close to you to introduce myself
- 6:24Speaker 1: because I don't think that we had ever met over
- 6:26Speaker 1: the years, right, And I sat down and I said, Hey,
- 6:29Speaker 1: I know you're coming on my podcast. And she said,
- 6:31Speaker 1: I don't like doing interviews, and I wanted to know
- 6:34Speaker 1: why you don't like doing interviews. It's not uncommon a
- 6:37Speaker 1: lot of people feel this way.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Listen, your podcast is popular, and it's kind of like
- 6:43Speaker 6: you don't want to say anything that's going to.
- 6:45Speaker 1: To get blown up and used as a headline. That's
- 6:49Speaker 1: my specialty everything. That's when you're with me, you're safe
- 6:54Speaker 1: because I'm the only one that gets in trouble constantly
- 6:57Speaker 1: and creates headlines constantly. So you're just just look at
- 7:01Speaker 1: this as like, at least the people are going to
- 7:04Speaker 1: take my words and use them to make headlines. I
- 7:08Speaker 1: admire your bulls, thank you so much, like my laby Is,
- 7:13Speaker 1: Menora and Majora. Please include all of them. Okay, I
- 7:17Speaker 1: don't discriminate. Well, I appreciate you saying that, but I'm
- 7:21Speaker 1: a huge admirer of yours. I think you are one
- 7:25Speaker 1: of the funniest people on the planet, and I love
- 7:27Speaker 1: getting to see you in movies because once you left SNL,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'm like, how are we supposed to get our cherry oh,
- 7:33Speaker 1: Terry fixed? I mean, you on that show is just
- 7:37Speaker 1: first let's talk. First of all, let's talk about pickleball,
- 7:40Speaker 1: because you're an avid pickleball I'm not avid. Well yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 1: it seems like.
- 7:45Speaker 6: You are, no, but I do like it a lot.
- 7:48Speaker 6: It's something everybody can do.
- 7:51Speaker 1: That's the problem that I have with it is that
- 7:53Speaker 1: everybody can do it, and so I don't think it's
- 7:56Speaker 1: such a How do I want to say this. People
- 7:59Speaker 1: think that when they're good at pick a ball, that
- 8:02Speaker 1: means that they're athletic and not at all. Right, well
- 8:05Speaker 1: that thank you, thank you for clarifying that.
- 8:07Speaker 6: It's about looking athletic, not being athletic.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Who introduced you to pick a ball? Oh?
- 8:12Speaker 6: My cousin in New Jersey they have a pick a
- 8:14Speaker 6: ball court and that's how I started playing.
- 8:16Speaker 1: But didn't you find the rules absolutely so confusing, the
- 8:20Speaker 1: kitchen and the system.
- 8:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm just playing to hit the ball and to
- 8:26Speaker 6: get it in where I'm supposed to get it in.
- 8:28Speaker 6: You know, I'm not lazy, but yeah, I mean anybody
- 8:32Speaker 6: can do it. And I'm thinking, what a healthy way
- 8:36Speaker 6: to meet people, because I'd like to meet people.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Are you trying to meet people? Sure? What kind of
- 8:45Speaker 1: people would you like to meet? Friends? Lovers? What are
- 8:48Speaker 1: you in the mood for? Is that a loaded question?
- 8:52Speaker 7: Oh?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah, this is where the interview park gets. Yes, yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 1: I'm so good at this is But we're just talking
- 9:05Speaker 1: about pickleball though, just because pickleball is a good place
- 9:09Speaker 1: to meet people.
- 9:10Speaker 7: Football with a penis.
- 9:13Speaker 1: When when people talk about pickleball, one of the first
- 9:16Speaker 1: things that they typically say is that it's a great
- 9:18Speaker 1: place to meet people, or it's a great way to
- 9:20Speaker 1: meet people, and it's a great way to not over
- 9:23Speaker 1: exert yourself while meeting people.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Because I went to this court my friend invited me,
- 9:28Speaker 6: and there were these guys were playing. My god, they
- 9:32Speaker 6: were playing like bow, I mean so hard, and it's
- 9:36Speaker 6: fun to watch. But it's not necessarily a spectator sport.
- 9:42Speaker 6: But I'm playing, you know, with with other women and everything,
- 9:45Speaker 6: and I'm just thinking, God, I'd love to just sit
- 9:47Speaker 6: there and watch them play.
- 9:50Speaker 1: They're it's so they're hitting the ball so hard. Do
- 9:53Speaker 1: you like to watch tennis?
- 9:55Speaker 6: I'll watch tennis. I'm not an avid tennis watcher. Oh
- 9:59Speaker 6: I like watching basket ball. Well, if you like to
- 10:01Speaker 6: see balls being hit hard.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Tennis is a good curently, I do. Tennis is a
- 10:05Speaker 1: good sport to watch. I love watching tennis.
- 10:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I went to the Desert Smash Indi in Indian wells.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah yeah, Palm Desert and played pick a ball,
- 10:17Speaker 1: had a pickball clinic. Well hello, love dog and it
- 10:24Speaker 1: was fun.
- 10:25Speaker 6: You know who was one of my instructors?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Do you remember?
- 10:29Speaker 6: I remember from being a kid, remember Vince Van Patton.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Vince Van Patten. I know that name.
- 10:35Speaker 6: Is that a remember Dick Van Yes, yes, and he
- 10:38Speaker 6: had handsome sons.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Oh it's his son.
- 10:41Speaker 6: Yeah, and he's married to Eileen Davidson, who was on
- 10:46Speaker 6: Young and Restless?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, hands were you a soap opera
- 10:50Speaker 1: person Young and Restless? Okay, well, the first of all,
- 10:53Speaker 1: you should know it's The Young and the Restless. I
- 10:54Speaker 1: can't even believe you're.
- 10:56Speaker 7: Some of us abbreviated because we've been.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I was into General Hospital in Santa Barbara. Those were
- 11:03Speaker 1: my two and that was a conflict because they were
- 11:05Speaker 1: both on at the same time.
- 11:06Speaker 6: I would watch Santa Barbara sometimes because it was just
- 11:08Speaker 6: left over from it was right after Young and Wrestlers.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, because Young and the Restless went from one thirty
- 11:12Speaker 1: to two thirty. It was a half hour break. Like sorry,
- 11:16Speaker 1: it went from like a half hour to a half hour,
- 11:18Speaker 1: whereas Santa Barbara was I think three to four or
- 11:21Speaker 1: two to three. So you had to pick and choose
- 11:23Speaker 1: which Soaparbara.
- 11:23Speaker 7: Is Robin right pen, Yeah, it was on was on there.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yeah, Robin Wright was. I was obsessed with Robin Wright
- 11:31Speaker 1: because this was before the Princess bri Remember when she
- 11:34Speaker 1: was so young and beautiful. She's still beautiful. She actually
- 11:40Speaker 1: just stayed at my house in Majorca. She went there
- 11:41Speaker 1: for her sixtieth bird.
- 11:43Speaker 7: Last name pants, first name, fancy. We just bring up
- 11:46Speaker 7: this birthday. Oh, she just stayed in my place in
- 11:48Speaker 7: Boma Gol.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Of course she did. Yeah, she did. She call me
- 11:52Speaker 1: out of nowhere. I hadn't heard from her in about
- 11:53Speaker 1: two years, me either, and I was like, oh, why
- 11:57Speaker 1: is Robin facetiming me? This is very strange. And she
- 12:00Speaker 1: was with her new lover and they're madly in love
- 12:03Speaker 1: and she's like, Chelsea, we want to spend my I
- 12:05Speaker 1: want to spend my birthday with you. There's nobody I'd
- 12:07Speaker 1: rather spend my birthday with. And I'm like, I when
- 12:10Speaker 1: is your birthday? And she's like, oh, it's this And
- 12:12Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm on tour and she's like, is your
- 12:14Speaker 1: house in my Orca free? And I was like, oh,
- 12:18Speaker 1: you want to spend your birthday with my house? I
- 12:20Speaker 1: was like, no energy problem, that requires a lot less
- 12:23Speaker 1: effort for me and an easy guy, like a very easy.
- 12:26Speaker 7: Now did she meet him playing pickuball? I don't think so.
- 12:29Speaker 1: She does play pickleball. I think I think Robin does
- 12:31Speaker 1: play pickleball, but I don't know that they met playing pickleball.
- 12:33Speaker 7: I love to know how people meet.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah, are you looking to meet someone? Are you looking
- 12:37Speaker 1: to pick up a lover? Is that? Are you in
- 12:39Speaker 1: the market?
- 12:40Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 12:40Speaker 6: You know what, Yes, But I'll tell you something.
- 12:44Speaker 7: I I do alone so well.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Well, I think most women thrive like we're.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Some women have to be in a relationship. I never
- 12:54Speaker 6: felt that way. Never, And so I think for because
- 12:59Speaker 6: I do alone so well, to be with somebody, they've
- 13:03Speaker 6: got to be, you know, somebody that's like there's chemistry.
- 13:07Speaker 7: I don't need a companion.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yeah, well no, of course not. And when we can't,
- 13:12Speaker 1: you want to do you feel comfortable talking about your
- 13:14Speaker 1: lat like have you had a long relationship? Did you
- 13:17Speaker 1: like being in a long relationship or did you like,
- 13:19Speaker 1: have you ever lived with someone? And did you like that?
- 13:22Speaker 7: It was easy?
- 13:23Speaker 6: I will say it was easy, and you know, and
- 13:26Speaker 6: during the pandemic, and we breathed through it because we
- 13:30Speaker 6: both were into cooking and we ate, like I think
- 13:36Speaker 6: we ordered out once or twice and so we cooked
- 13:40Speaker 6: it and then we had our pot of people and
- 13:42Speaker 6: we just cooked and it was it was it was great.
- 13:47Speaker 6: And then I just realized that I had been single
- 13:50Speaker 6: for so long that I thought I was being too judgmental,
- 13:56Speaker 6: and I thought, not judgmental.
- 14:00Speaker 7: They have to be this.
- 14:01Speaker 6: This is it's really just chemistry.
- 14:04Speaker 1: You know, I can I relate to what you're saying.
- 14:06Speaker 8: Though.
- 14:07Speaker 7: You want to be attracted.
- 14:08Speaker 6: You want to love their personality and they, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 6: to have a great sense of humor. That's not easy
- 14:17Speaker 6: to find, especially when you're not looking, and I don't
- 14:21Speaker 6: want to look.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Let's get back to the cooking. What kinds of things
- 14:25Speaker 1: can you cook? What's your signature dish?
- 14:28Speaker 7: Cedar plank salmon?
- 14:31Speaker 2: That's up?
- 14:33Speaker 7: Back up?
- 14:34Speaker 1: What kind of cedar plank are you working with?
- 14:37Speaker 6: You just buy cedar planks and you soak them for
- 14:40Speaker 6: like I'll soak them for overnight.
- 14:43Speaker 1: On the cedar plank. You soak it on the plank.
- 14:45Speaker 7: O you just soak the planks.
- 14:47Speaker 1: What is a plank.
- 14:48Speaker 7: It's a cedar plank.
- 14:49Speaker 6: It is all I know is the position you can
- 14:53Speaker 6: you can order them on. What it does is it
- 14:55Speaker 6: steams once it's completely soaked all the way through. You
- 15:00Speaker 6: it on the hottest barbecue and it it cooks the
- 15:04Speaker 6: fish through the cedar plank steak, and it just gives
- 15:07Speaker 6: it a flavor. It's like the steak of seafood.
- 15:10Speaker 7: Oh, because I.
- 15:11Speaker 6: Chop up fresh garlic and parsley from my garden and
- 15:15Speaker 6: olive oil, you know, salt and pepper. It's it's really
- 15:19Speaker 6: kind of easy. And then perfect timing of twenty minutes
- 15:24Speaker 6: on the grill.
- 15:25Speaker 1: And you flip the salmon or you keep it on
- 15:27Speaker 1: one side. You don't flip salmon. No, no, no, I'm
- 15:30Speaker 1: a big salmon eater. So this is actually appealing to me,
- 15:32Speaker 1: not that I have a cedar plank or that I
- 15:34Speaker 1: will ever learn how to use it. Someone else will
- 15:36Speaker 1: do that for me, because, let me.
- 15:37Speaker 7: Tell you, so, I have to be you do learn how.
- 15:40Speaker 1: To do it. You need a barbecue, right, you don't
- 15:42Speaker 1: have barb I'm saving up for one. I think I
- 15:47Speaker 1: do have a barbecue outside. There's always another sale coming
- 15:52Speaker 1: around the corner. I'll wait until Labor Days, sister. That's
- 15:56Speaker 1: how I came barbecue. No, I think I do have
- 15:58Speaker 1: a barbecue outside. But I'm listen. I'm a little bit
- 16:01Speaker 1: like I think I have one.
- 16:02Speaker 7: In my York.
- 16:03Speaker 6: I know you.
- 16:05Speaker 7: The new dog was standing on top of it the
- 16:06Speaker 7: other day.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I got this new rescue who you just met,
- 16:10Speaker 1: and he was standing on top of things. He doesn't
- 16:12Speaker 1: I don't think he can judge height. So he was
- 16:15Speaker 1: standing on top of the barbecue and it's like six
- 16:16Speaker 1: feet off the ground. I'm like, do not jump because
- 16:18Speaker 1: he is not spry like dog. He's got a little
- 16:21Speaker 1: it looks like he's been in a couple of.
- 16:22Speaker 7: Bars nowhere with his background.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Right, they said if they found him in a field,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and my sister goes, what can they be more specific?
- 16:30Speaker 1: Baker's field like a field of what the field of dreams?
- 16:33Speaker 1: She's like, what field did they find him in? I'm like, okay,
- 16:36Speaker 1: that's a good question.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Let me follow up.
- 16:37Speaker 7: I love that you rescued though, Oh, of course.
- 16:39Speaker 1: You have animals. Are you a cat? Are you a
- 16:42Speaker 1: cat person? Though I thought you said that.
- 16:44Speaker 7: No.
- 16:44Speaker 6: Oh, I mean I've had a cat before. When I
- 16:47Speaker 6: was on SNL, I had a cat. But and I
- 16:49Speaker 6: love all animals, but I love dogs.
- 16:51Speaker 8: It's I've got I've had Ricky and then Sweet Mama
- 16:57Speaker 8: and I had them together, and when they passed, I
- 17:00Speaker 8: got adel Castro.
- 17:04Speaker 6: And midel Castro or de Castro and dom Desmond and cute,
- 17:12Speaker 6: but like I can't wait to get home to my daughter.
- 17:15Speaker 1: I know, it's there's nothing better. Last night I came
- 17:17Speaker 1: home and I was like, I just couldn't wait to
- 17:19Speaker 1: just be with them and hang out, like late nights
- 17:22Speaker 1: is fun, you know, and they're getting to know each other,
- 17:24Speaker 1: so it's pretty cute. Do you like to talk about SNL?
- 17:27Speaker 4: No?
- 17:27Speaker 7: What am I talking about? SNL?
- 17:29Speaker 1: Was it hard to How many years were you on SNL? Five? Okay?
- 17:33Speaker 1: Was it hard to? It felt like longer than that.
- 17:35Speaker 1: You were such a staple of that show and you
- 17:37Speaker 1: and Will together, I mean so fine. Was it a
- 17:41Speaker 1: hard adjustment to leave that show? No? No, were you?
- 17:45Speaker 1: Were you ready to leave?
- 17:46Speaker 6: I had a five year contract and I felt so
- 17:49Speaker 6: good about the five years that I had done. And
- 17:54Speaker 6: it is emotionally it's rough.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I've heard.
- 17:58Speaker 6: I heard yes, And if you don't have tools in
- 18:02Speaker 6: your toolbox, which I didn't even know I had to
- 18:05Speaker 6: have a toolbox back then, you know, it's really hard.
- 18:10Speaker 6: And so I kind of left just to take care
- 18:14Speaker 6: of myself.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Yeah. I've heard that from so many people that have
- 18:17Speaker 1: worked on that show, that it is a grind and
- 18:19Speaker 1: that it is relentless.
- 18:20Speaker 6: Well, it's like you're auditioning every week to get a
- 18:22Speaker 6: show you already got, you know, truly, Yeah, and you're
- 18:26Speaker 6: competing with writers who are supposed to be writing for you,
- 18:29Speaker 6: you know, and you can't if they don't. Nobody has
- 18:33Speaker 6: to write for you. So it's you writing for yourself.
- 18:36Speaker 6: And luckily I had that background with the Groundlings. So
- 18:39Speaker 6: it's you writing for yourself and hoping you have somebody
- 18:43Speaker 6: to write with, and luckily I had, you know, Will
- 18:48Speaker 6: and I wrote a lot together. Matt Petemont I wrote with.
- 18:51Speaker 6: And it sucks when you feel like you're competing with
- 18:53Speaker 6: the writers. I never felt like I was competing with
- 18:55Speaker 6: my fellow actors.
- 18:57Speaker 1: It's not fun to be in a work environment. And
- 18:59Speaker 1: I've heard that a lot about us and l And obviously,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you know, this is a very revered show. People love it,
- 19:03Speaker 1: and but like, it is a very hard environment when
- 19:06Speaker 1: you're constantly in competition with the people you're at work with, like,
- 19:10Speaker 1: and I know you could probably say that about a
- 19:11Speaker 1: lot of jobs, but that's not a fun way for
- 19:14Speaker 1: your psyche to exist. It's kind of like your in survival.
- 19:18Speaker 6: Right always always, And it's so funny because the first
- 19:22Speaker 6: time I ever did a sitcom, I was like, what
- 19:25Speaker 6: is this kind of utopia?
- 19:28Speaker 7: Missu? Terry?
- 19:29Speaker 6: What would you like in your eggs? I'm like, what's
- 19:30Speaker 6: your angle? What's your angle? What do you mean?
- 19:35Speaker 7: You're in a ten out of three? You're you know
- 19:38Speaker 7: you're going to be written for. I was just like,
- 19:41Speaker 7: this is amazing.
- 19:44Speaker 6: So anything after that is pretty yeah, you know, is
- 19:49Speaker 6: pretty easy, like doing even a film and they say,
- 19:52Speaker 6: all right, Cherry, you want to go again, and like
- 19:54Speaker 6: it's like I could never go again.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I was.
- 19:57Speaker 6: There was always you had to get it on one take. Yeah,
- 20:00Speaker 6: you know, and it's a great way to train yourself.
- 20:04Speaker 6: It's real discipline. But as hard as it was, I
- 20:08Speaker 6: have to say, like I it was so amazing to
- 20:12Speaker 6: be able to write whatever I imagined, anything I imagined,
- 20:17Speaker 6: And you know, I almost feel like I did that
- 20:21Speaker 6: all growing up. I was always watching and imitating people.
- 20:26Speaker 6: I didn't do impressions, but I would glean from I would.
- 20:29Speaker 6: I always felt like I was born without an identity,
- 20:32Speaker 6: so I would observe other people so much. And yeah,
- 20:36Speaker 6: I just grew up observing people.
- 20:39Speaker 1: What number how many siblings do you have?
- 20:41Speaker 7: Too? I was the middle.
- 20:42Speaker 8: Okay, oh yeah, yeah.
- 20:48Speaker 1: That's very interesting. I've never heard anyone describe being the
- 20:52Speaker 1: middle of two children before. Wow. Oh oh, I thought
- 20:56Speaker 1: you said too. I was the middle. There were two children.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I'm looking at her like what I was like waiting
- 21:04Speaker 1: for the ball to drop or the punchline. Okay, copy that.
- 21:08Speaker 1: So there's three total.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Oh god, oh hey, have you been thinking about writing
- 21:13Speaker 3: into Dear Chelsea.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Well, now is the moment.
- 21:16Speaker 3: We're taking advice questions on anything that pops up. It's
- 21:19Speaker 3: wedding season. Are you having wedding drama? Write in about
- 21:23Speaker 3: that thing that you can't seem to agree with your
- 21:25Speaker 3: spouse about but you absolutely know you're right. Chelsea can
- 21:28Speaker 3: tell you who's right and who's wrong. You can write
- 21:30Speaker 3: in about a big life decision or just something small
- 21:33Speaker 3: dating drama.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Write into Dear.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Chelsea podcast at gmail dot com.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Are you a middle child? Do you fall into that? Like?
- 21:45Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 21:46Speaker 1: Really in what ways?
- 21:47Speaker 6: You know, it's kind of like, uh, we could have
- 21:51Speaker 6: done without you. Ye had the first and you know
- 21:56Speaker 6: my sister and then the boy, you know, my brother,
- 22:00Speaker 6: and you know my sister was like this golden haired blonde, adorable,
- 22:05Speaker 6: and you know, I came out with a mustache, and
- 22:08Speaker 6: so it's like you better develop a sense of humor.
- 22:14Speaker 7: Real quick, real quick.
- 22:16Speaker 6: But when I was a kid, I would watch Young
- 22:18Speaker 6: and Restless because I grew up around so much chaos,
- 22:22Speaker 6: and I just was always amazed at how civilized people
- 22:26Speaker 6: were on you know, so I would always imitate, and
- 22:33Speaker 6: no one knew I was doing what I was doing.
- 22:35Speaker 6: You know, I was doing my own kind of show,
- 22:39Speaker 6: but no one. I just used anybody that was around
- 22:43Speaker 6: as Like my mother would come home and I would
- 22:46Speaker 6: have like clip on earrings and a scarf, and as
- 22:49Speaker 6: she would walk in, and you know how in soap
- 22:52Speaker 6: operas that it's here's the person, this person.
- 22:56Speaker 7: They're both facing forward to the camera.
- 22:59Speaker 6: And so I be in front of my mother and
- 23:03Speaker 6: I was like, oh, mother, you startled me.
- 23:04Speaker 7: I didn't hear you come in, And she go, who
- 23:10Speaker 7: the fuck are you're talking to? I'm like cut.
- 23:17Speaker 6: Reset and like she was gorgeous but had like the
- 23:24Speaker 6: worst mouth, and she was rough.
- 23:26Speaker 7: All the women were rough.
- 23:27Speaker 1: In your family, Oh yeah, really like in an Italian way, in.
- 23:31Speaker 7: What kind of way?
- 23:32Speaker 6: And half Irish just rough, like no charm. It was doggy,
- 23:38Speaker 6: dog really competitive, no not competitive, just survival.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Survival, okay, you know.
- 23:45Speaker 6: And I was so sensitive and you know, you grew
- 23:48Speaker 6: up thinking there's something wrong with you, like why am I.
- 23:50Speaker 7: Not tough like that? Uh huh, and hence not wanting
- 23:54Speaker 7: to do interviews.
- 23:57Speaker 1: To talk about these very subjects. Yeah, did I read
- 24:01Speaker 1: that you're a life coach?
- 24:02Speaker 7: No, gosh no.
- 24:04Speaker 6: I played a life coach for AMC. It was like
- 24:07Speaker 6: a digital thing that I did years ago, and I thought,
- 24:11Speaker 6: you know what, while I'm waiting, I'll I'll do a
- 24:15Speaker 6: online course. I thought, you know, maybe it'll help me
- 24:18Speaker 6: in the you know, back end of it, help myself,
- 24:21Speaker 6: you know, people become therapists to maybe help themselves, and said,
- 24:25Speaker 6: so I.
- 24:26Speaker 7: Did, and it didn't help. I wanted to get the
- 24:31Speaker 7: verbbage down.
- 24:31Speaker 6: In all of the you know what, the nomenclature of
- 24:35Speaker 6: the life coach.
- 24:37Speaker 1: What do you think about life coaches in general? Like
- 24:40Speaker 1: people who are.
- 24:41Speaker 7: Personal cheerleaders to me?
- 24:44Speaker 6: You know, And it's like I said, this as a
- 24:47Speaker 6: why pay so much money and deal with the past
- 24:49Speaker 6: when it's a lot cheaper and it's about today and
- 24:52Speaker 6: moving forward, right, which that sounds good, you know, but yeah,
- 24:59Speaker 6: I really I think they organize your brain. I thought
- 25:02Speaker 6: there was some legitimacy to it after I, you know,
- 25:05Speaker 6: took the classes. Okay, I can see where this is helpful.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Well for a certain personality. I would imagine that a
- 25:12Speaker 1: life coach is really helpful because it's like I remember
- 25:15Speaker 1: going into therapy and I was like, I don't really
- 25:18Speaker 1: want to deal with the past. I'm like, I just
- 25:20Speaker 1: would like to move forward with some better habits. And
- 25:22Speaker 1: he almost laughed at me. He's like, well, in order
- 25:24Speaker 1: to do that, we actually have to deal with the past.
- 25:26Speaker 1: And I'm like, but why, Like that's done? Like I
- 25:29Speaker 1: just would like to focus on forward movement. And what
- 25:32Speaker 1: he should have said is like, well, what you're looking
- 25:34Speaker 1: for as a life coach, not a therapist, you know,
- 25:36Speaker 1: or a psychiatrist.
- 25:37Speaker 6: But they're not going to pass you off to a
- 25:43Speaker 6: life coach. But I do see how it can help.
- 25:47Speaker 7: Some people just need that personal cheerleader, you know. But
- 25:52Speaker 7: I love doing it.
- 25:53Speaker 6: I don't think anybody saw it, but I thought it
- 25:56Speaker 6: was so funny, fun I loved doing it.
- 25:59Speaker 7: Yeah, it was as a life coach.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Mm li, I's a life coach and were you doing
- 26:03Speaker 1: a character? Yeah?
- 26:04Speaker 6: Yeah, just very close to myself close to yourself. I
- 26:07Speaker 6: did it, shot it in New York and it was
- 26:09Speaker 6: so much fun. But yeah, no one saw it.
- 26:12Speaker 1: So you're an LA girl, not a New York girl.
- 26:14Speaker 6: No, I'm from just outside of Philly mm hmm. And
- 26:19Speaker 6: when I moved here, I moved here to get in
- 26:21Speaker 6: the music business. I worked at A and M Records.
- 26:23Speaker 6: Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to be an.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Actress really, So then what happened.
- 26:28Speaker 6: I was like, Wow, if I'm ever going to make
- 26:30Speaker 6: a fool of myself, this would be the time. I
- 26:32Speaker 6: don't know anybody here, and because people alrey said, oh,
- 26:35Speaker 6: you should do stand up, you should do stand up.
- 26:37Speaker 6: But I couldn't imagine being myself.
- 26:43Speaker 7: And on stage.
- 26:44Speaker 1: So then a.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Woman said to me, oh, you should do the groundlings
- 26:48Speaker 6: And I said, what's that. She said, it's an improv troop.
- 26:51Speaker 6: I said it's improv and I had no idea. And
- 26:54Speaker 6: I went down the groundings and I saw and like
- 26:58Speaker 6: the clouds parted. I couldn't believe this place existed. I
- 27:01Speaker 6: I was like, this is like Saturday Night live on stage.
- 27:05Speaker 6: And so I started taking classes and I had a
- 27:09Speaker 6: great job at A and M. I loved I worked
- 27:12Speaker 6: in promotion, I worked in publishing.
- 27:15Speaker 1: And then and so you did that and then you
- 27:17Speaker 1: did groundlinks on the side.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Yeah, And I got into the main company after years,
- 27:22Speaker 6: and I had an agent, a manager, a commercial agents
- 27:26Speaker 6: said this isn't a fluke.
- 27:27Speaker 7: You need to quit your job. And I was so scared.
- 27:30Speaker 6: You know, it's like changing completely changing careers. How old
- 27:34Speaker 6: were you at this time, maybe thirty, okay like that,
- 27:39Speaker 6: And so I did and I started just temping at
- 27:42Speaker 6: Disney Legal and it wasn't fun I was just you know,
- 27:47Speaker 6: temping and temping.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I just want to say, not to interrupt you, but
- 27:52Speaker 1: I just want to interpose that temping is one of
- 27:54Speaker 1: the sole most soulless, it is jobs you could do.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I did that.
- 27:59Speaker 6: Oh, I'm going to meet people, And what it is
- 28:01Speaker 6: is nobody wants to get close to you because they
- 28:03Speaker 6: feel like they're cheating on the person that you're temping for.
- 28:06Speaker 7: Right, you're gonna be gone.
- 28:08Speaker 1: I'm not investig in yes, exactly.
- 28:10Speaker 7: And it was so lonely.
- 28:13Speaker 6: What was funny was a year and a half later
- 28:15Speaker 6: after I got SNL, I had a meeting with one
- 28:18Speaker 6: of the lawyers there, and it was so funny because
- 28:22Speaker 6: the lawyer that I met said to my manager, why
- 28:24Speaker 6: is she talking to all the assistants out there? And
- 28:28Speaker 6: it's because she was working with them a year and
- 28:30Speaker 6: a half ago. Oh yeah, And you know it was
- 28:33Speaker 6: it was really nice because so many people are doing
- 28:36Speaker 6: something to do something else, you know, and I think inspired,
- 28:42Speaker 6: I guess. But it was so nice to go back
- 28:45Speaker 6: there and see all those people that I was, you
- 28:48Speaker 6: know that where I was.
- 28:49Speaker 7: Who didn't talk to me. I guess, now I'm safe
- 28:53Speaker 7: to talk to. And then I got.
- 28:55Speaker 6: SNL and S ANDL is like my first job.
- 28:58Speaker 1: And what was that audition process like for SNL?
- 29:01Speaker 6: Oh you do four or five characters in seven minutes
- 29:06Speaker 6: something like that.
- 29:07Speaker 1: And were any of the characters the characters you ended
- 29:09Speaker 1: up doing on the show?
- 29:11Speaker 6: The Lady on the Porch, the Italian Lady on the porch.
- 29:14Speaker 7: I keep it now. But the groundings was everything.
- 29:17Speaker 6: It taught me everything, and it was the perfect you know,
- 29:21Speaker 6: training ground for SNL. And I had to write because
- 29:24Speaker 6: I was working at A and M, so I couldn't
- 29:26Speaker 6: meet other people to write as much as you know
- 29:29Speaker 6: the others that were acting. So I wrote by myself
- 29:32Speaker 6: a lot, and it was little did I know? You know,
- 29:37Speaker 6: it was something because you think that you're going to
- 29:40Speaker 6: be written for on SNL and it's like, oh no,
- 29:43Speaker 6: that's a nice, big surprise. But Lauren Michael said, we
- 29:46Speaker 6: want you to continue writing. I was so flattered and
- 29:49Speaker 6: it was like, oho, and you don't get.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Paid, didn't I read sometime that he never actually officially
- 29:56Speaker 1: hired you. Is that a true story?
- 29:58Speaker 8: No?
- 29:58Speaker 1: He did, he did?
- 30:00Speaker 7: You know?
- 30:00Speaker 2: They were realize you had gotten the job and that
- 30:02Speaker 2: oh yeah, he.
- 30:03Speaker 6: Said, we want you to come to New York. And
- 30:05Speaker 6: I'm like to shop for the day, like finish the sentence,
- 30:12Speaker 6: you know. But I feel divinely I was guided there
- 30:14Speaker 6: because I would have never dreamt that big.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Mmmm that's nice, you know.
- 30:19Speaker 6: Yeah, And it's like, how do we get her out here?
- 30:22Speaker 6: How do we let's see, let's have John break up
- 30:26Speaker 6: with her, break her heart. I feel like there's nothing
- 30:31Speaker 6: left for me there. Oh wow. And I always wanted
- 30:35Speaker 6: to live in California always, And it was truly I
- 30:39Speaker 6: felt like divinely, like how do we get her out here?
- 30:42Speaker 4: You know?
- 30:43Speaker 1: And to get out here after SNL, you mean.
- 30:46Speaker 6: No, no, to get me to la to get into
- 30:50Speaker 6: the groundlinks.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Right, Okay, So, but then you moved to New York
- 30:53Speaker 1: when I got SNL you yeah, yeah, it would have
- 30:55Speaker 1: been amazing if you had filmed SNL from LA and
- 30:58Speaker 1: just never went to New York.
- 30:59Speaker 6: I used to come back every time I had a
- 31:01Speaker 6: two week hiatus because you love it here.
- 31:03Speaker 7: I do, yeah, I really do.
- 31:05Speaker 1: What are your favorite things about Los Angeles?
- 31:09Speaker 6: Just the skyline, It's just I mean the landscape.
- 31:12Speaker 4: You know.
- 31:13Speaker 6: I was always amazed when I moved here, and I
- 31:14Speaker 6: couldn't believe driving home from waitressing from Carlos and Charlie's.
- 31:20Speaker 6: Do you remember Carlos and Charlie's on Sunset?
- 31:22Speaker 1: No, it was a club.
- 31:23Speaker 6: It was like a nightclub, huh. And I was waitressing
- 31:27Speaker 6: there while I was looking for a job. And I
- 31:31Speaker 6: remember coming home from there into the valley. I could
- 31:34Speaker 6: not believe how beautiful the lights were coming into the valley.
- 31:38Speaker 6: Like it's still so beautiful to me.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Driving on Maulholland, like at dusk or at night is
- 31:45Speaker 1: always really always reminds me. Like, you know, I used
- 31:48Speaker 1: to have a studio universal and I would live in
- 31:51Speaker 1: like bel Air, and I would just take Maholland every day,
- 31:54Speaker 1: even though it took like, you know, an extra twenty
- 31:55Speaker 1: five minutes because that drive. I always would just cement
- 31:59Speaker 1: it how much I love the beauty of this place
- 32:02Speaker 1: because I think LA like LA. I go through phases
- 32:05Speaker 1: where I really appreciate LA, and then there are times
- 32:08Speaker 1: where I'm like, oh, this place is just lame. There's
- 32:11Speaker 1: no vibe here.
- 32:12Speaker 6: You know. The only thing that bugs me is it's
- 32:14Speaker 6: it's it is this business. It's everywhere. You know, that's
- 32:20Speaker 6: when I just meet an accountant, but often when you
- 32:23Speaker 6: get to.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Meet it are you meeting.
- 32:24Speaker 7: A lot of accountants? Just my own?
- 32:28Speaker 6: But you know, it's I missed the diversity of occupation.
- 32:33Speaker 6: I mean there are you know it is, but it's
- 32:36Speaker 6: so central to this business, so centralized, and it's and
- 32:43Speaker 6: you can't kind of get away from it unless you
- 32:45Speaker 6: get away from it.
- 32:46Speaker 1: That's right. Yeah, what is your relationship with like your celebrity? Like,
- 32:51Speaker 1: how do you look at that? Because it's weird.
- 32:54Speaker 6: I never ever really felt like a celebrity and I
- 32:59Speaker 6: didn't ever into it, and I'm never bothered by people.
- 33:03Speaker 6: And I don't you know, get asked for my autograph
- 33:06Speaker 6: much or you know.
- 33:07Speaker 7: I live really like you know, I'm at home depot.
- 33:13Speaker 6: I'm at Loew's walking the dogs, and I don't live
- 33:18Speaker 6: a life like a celebrity.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Okay, you know, what are your female relationships like at
- 33:23Speaker 1: this stage in your life?
- 33:25Speaker 7: Great? I have really good friends.
- 33:27Speaker 1: And how long have you had them?
- 33:29Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, Well my best friend was the publicist
- 33:32Speaker 6: at NBC.
- 33:34Speaker 7: Oh okay, but I was there. She loves you. She's like,
- 33:36Speaker 7: are you excited about Chelsea?
- 33:38Speaker 1: And You're like, no, I hate being interviewed.
- 33:42Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 33:42Speaker 6: If Wemer tells me to Wimer person tells me to
- 33:44Speaker 6: be myself and have fun, I can be myself and
- 33:49Speaker 6: have fun. And oh my gosh, my buddy Cameron and Nadine.
- 33:58Speaker 1: And do you hang out with your girlfriends as a
- 34:00Speaker 1: big group? Do you hang out with.
- 34:03Speaker 7: Play cards?
- 34:04Speaker 1: What kind of cards?
- 34:05Speaker 7: Rummy Cube or I buy and let me see.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I thought Robny Cube was the with the piece.
- 34:12Speaker 7: There are the tiles?
- 34:13Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that. Now I got my neighbors. I have
- 34:18Speaker 6: great neighbors, great women. We'll come over each other's house
- 34:22Speaker 6: and I'll do a charcouterie board happy hour or they'll
- 34:25Speaker 6: do it not as good as me, but it's not
- 34:27Speaker 6: a competition.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Do you make a mean sharkter.
- 34:33Speaker 7: I do, yes, I do.
- 34:35Speaker 1: What do you put on your sharcotery bar? Do you
- 34:38Speaker 1: use your salmon plank for your charcuterie board to smoke
- 34:41Speaker 1: your meat dinner? Okay?
- 34:44Speaker 8: You know?
- 34:45Speaker 6: But yeah, boy, I'll tell you the women friends. I'll
- 34:50Speaker 6: tell you something that recently happened. My friend had invited
- 34:54Speaker 6: me to this dinner he was hosting for the Milken
- 35:00Speaker 6: Milkin Institute. What is the Milken Institute to again, women's
- 35:03Speaker 6: health issues?
- 35:04Speaker 7: Right? So I said yeah, and Jill Biden was a chair.
- 35:09Speaker 6: And first I'm driving down the street and there's all
- 35:12Speaker 6: these cops that are stopping everybody.
- 35:14Speaker 7: And I was like, oh my gosh.
- 35:17Speaker 6: And I said to the cops, you know where can
- 35:19Speaker 6: I park? And he said anywhere you want? So this
- 35:22Speaker 6: is where I parked it, Chelsea.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Let's just sorry with a bunch of Beeby dudes.
- 35:30Speaker 1: I said, hey, fellas.
- 35:35Speaker 7: The guy asked me, he goes, can I take a
- 35:37Speaker 7: picture with you?
- 35:38Speaker 6: And I said, oh, sure, if I could take a
- 35:39Speaker 6: picture with you guys. And he's like, you want to
- 35:41Speaker 6: get on the bike and I go, yeah, I want
- 35:44Speaker 6: to play with the lights.
- 35:44Speaker 7: I'm like yeah.
- 35:47Speaker 6: I did, But anyway, I go in there and chilled.
- 35:50Speaker 6: Biden immediately came up and she goes, now, Sherry, are
- 35:53Speaker 6: you from Philly or Jersey? And I said, I'm from
- 35:56Speaker 6: outside of Philly, but I'm in Jersey a lot. And
- 35:59Speaker 6: She's like, I'm from Jersey. I said, I know you're
- 36:01Speaker 6: from Hamilton, the blueberry capital of the world.
- 36:04Speaker 7: And yeah, and she said yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 6: And I said, Jill, when I found out that you
- 36:08Speaker 6: were from Jersey was everything for me not to call
- 36:10Speaker 6: you and ask you to pick up a bag of
- 36:12Speaker 6: ice on the way.
- 36:15Speaker 7: And she started.
- 36:17Speaker 6: Laughing and we just started talking. And then I'm sitting
- 36:21Speaker 6: with all of these women, all of these accomplished, powerful women,
- 36:25Speaker 6: and they were talking about in all these different occupations
- 36:29Speaker 6: and Biden women and healthcare, and there were investors there,
- 36:33Speaker 6: and I'm just listening and listening to everybody speak. And
- 36:36Speaker 6: it was the weirdest thing because I would just diagnosed
- 36:41Speaker 6: with dcis with breast cancer. I'm staying there quiet, and
- 36:47Speaker 6: I'm like, this is so serendipitous, you know that He's like,
- 36:50Speaker 6: I want should come and just and be my guest.
- 36:55Speaker 6: And I'm listening to all these women and then at
- 36:58Speaker 6: the end, Jill came up to me and we were
- 37:02Speaker 6: saying goodbye, and I told her that I was just
- 37:05Speaker 6: diagnosed and she said when is your surgery and I
- 37:08Speaker 6: said the twenty six and she said, all right, you're
- 37:13Speaker 6: gonna get tired of me. And she says, I'm going
- 37:16Speaker 6: through this with you. This woman like before my surgery,
- 37:22Speaker 6: after my surgery, she just she goes, I am with
- 37:26Speaker 6: you on this. I was blown away. And then she
- 37:30Speaker 6: was coming out to La and she's like, let's have coffee.
- 37:33Speaker 6: And I said, all right, I'll come to your hotel.
- 37:35Speaker 6: She goes, I don't want to. I don't want you
- 37:37Speaker 6: to come here. There's so much security. And I go, yeah,
- 37:39Speaker 6: for you.
- 37:40Speaker 7: You know, like she was bothered by the security there.
- 37:43Speaker 6: And so we met at this coffee shop and we
- 37:47Speaker 6: just talked for two hours, and she was just that
- 37:54Speaker 6: is a woman with a huge heart, and through everything,
- 37:57Speaker 6: she's like checking on me and just a beautiful human being.
- 38:03Speaker 7: So I never felt so supported.
- 38:06Speaker 6: That's really nice, you know, by my friends, my girlfriends,
- 38:10Speaker 6: and and so you know, she goes, you're gonna get
- 38:15Speaker 6: sick of me texting you, and I'm like, seriously, Jill,
- 38:19Speaker 6: knock it off.
- 38:20Speaker 7: I'm okay, no, But what was.
- 38:22Speaker 6: Funny was we were sitting there and we're talking about
- 38:25Speaker 6: everything with coffee, and she goes, cher, are you really
- 38:28Speaker 6: You're really brave?
- 38:29Speaker 7: And I go, I'm Jill. I caught it early.
- 38:33Speaker 6: So that's my message to everybody too, is you know,
- 38:37Speaker 6: get your mammogram.
- 38:39Speaker 7: I caught it really early.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Oh thank goodness.
- 38:42Speaker 6: Yeah, and I just had such with two days ago.
- 38:46Speaker 2: What from from this?
- 38:49Speaker 1: And this has been your experience with Jill? Just now? Oh,
- 38:53Speaker 1: this is my present.
- 38:54Speaker 7: I was thinking this was like a year ago or no,
- 38:56Speaker 7: this is like couple days ago.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Oh my god, Oh my god. How are you feeling great?
- 39:03Speaker 1: Oh look at you? What a blessing. Yeah, you're sitting
- 39:07Speaker 1: here healthy and happy. Oh wow.
- 39:11Speaker 7: Yeah. The next day I was like, wow, I'm okay.
- 39:16Speaker 6: I just had a lump ectomy. And the other advice
- 39:19Speaker 6: I want to give is get a second opinion. The
- 39:23Speaker 6: first doctor I went to suggested something way more aggressive,
- 39:28Speaker 6: and I'm like, what wait, I caught it early, and
- 39:32Speaker 6: that is what you're proposing.
- 39:35Speaker 7: You know, to do.
- 39:36Speaker 6: I was like, that doesn't make sense. And I called
- 39:39Speaker 6: a friend of mine who's gone to college as Sherry Ross,
- 39:41Speaker 6: and she said, don't do anything until you talk to
- 39:44Speaker 6: my friends. So I went to another hospital and had
- 39:49Speaker 6: all my records transferred and she said to me, this
- 39:53Speaker 6: doctor Grumley.
- 39:53Speaker 7: She said, Cherry, that's way too aggressive.
- 39:57Speaker 6: And if I didn't get a second opinion, you know,
- 40:02Speaker 6: if you need to, you need to write. But she
- 40:06Speaker 6: said that, you know you don't need to. And so
- 40:11Speaker 6: I just had a lumpectomy and everything looks normals.
- 40:17Speaker 4: Good.
- 40:17Speaker 7: Fine for sharing that.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I mean, this is helpful to so many women listening.
- 40:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, truly get your mammogram off, of course,
- 40:27Speaker 6: but also get a second opinion, you.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Know what I mean.
- 40:30Speaker 6: Like everything I wouldn't have, I really wouldn't have unless
- 40:34Speaker 6: Cherry suggested that I do that. And yeah, I mean
- 40:39Speaker 6: I'm fine. And you know, like who would have thought,
- 40:44Speaker 6: like i'd have Jill Biden constantly calling me and texting me,
- 40:48Speaker 6: are you okay?
- 40:49Speaker 1: What they say?
- 40:51Speaker 7: You know, It's what was funny.
- 40:53Speaker 6: When we were having coffee, she goes to me, Cherry,
- 40:56Speaker 6: you know you can be vulnerable and it's okay to break.
- 41:00Speaker 6: And I go, Jill, I'm fine, Really, I'm good, and
- 41:04Speaker 6: she's like, you know, you don't have to be so
- 41:06Speaker 6: brave all the time. And I go, Jill Seriously, I
- 41:11Speaker 6: feel like I'm not scared. I'm really okay, I'm not
- 41:15Speaker 6: in any pain because Joe wasn't in any pain either, Shary,
- 41:18Speaker 6: all right, I'm scared.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Now, yeah okay, yeah, yeah? Are you happy?
- 41:25Speaker 6: But she was just hands on and that's beautiful.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Yes, it's really beautiful when women who you don't know well,
- 41:34Speaker 1: I mean, obviously the women in your life want to
- 41:35Speaker 1: show up and protect you and be there for you
- 41:37Speaker 1: during especially during times like the one you're describing, But
- 41:41Speaker 1: when a stranger shows up in your life and is
- 41:44Speaker 1: also that support ballast for you, it is really profound.
- 41:48Speaker 6: It is so profound because here it's all about women's
- 41:52Speaker 6: health issues and what we need to do, what's not
- 41:55Speaker 6: being done, and sitting around and listening to all these
- 41:58Speaker 6: accomplished women talking about this and me just kind of,
- 42:02Speaker 6: you know, taking it all in, but sitting there just
- 42:06Speaker 6: being diagnosed and thinking, okay, there's a reason for this.
- 42:12Speaker 6: And but luckily I got through it like a champ.
- 42:17Speaker 6: And I did have to have a second surgery because
- 42:20Speaker 6: I didn't get it all.
- 42:21Speaker 1: But so it was yesterday or two days ago, your
- 42:23Speaker 1: second surgery, Okay, and when was the first surgery?
- 42:27Speaker 7: Maybe a month ago.
- 42:28Speaker 6: Okay, yeah, and no no pain. No, I don't even
- 42:36Speaker 6: took anything for pain.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Well, you can give that stuff to me, that's the
- 42:42Speaker 1: word on the street. Yeah, do you have that?
- 42:44Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 42:44Speaker 1: I would actually appreciate if you had brought that over today.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And that goes for all of our callers and all
- 42:51Speaker 1: of our listeners.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I'll give you the po box.
- 42:57Speaker 1: Well, are you ready to take a couple of questions?
- 43:00Speaker 1: We have live callers calling it. Yes, were a very
- 43:04Speaker 1: special guest. I'm so glad that you shared that, and
- 43:06Speaker 1: I'm so glad that you're healthy, and I'm so glad
- 43:09Speaker 1: to hear this Joe Biden's story. It's all just beautiful.
- 43:12Speaker 1: It's beautiful woman.
- 43:13Speaker 7: Shit, I know, I gotta tell you, I've never felt
- 43:16Speaker 7: so grateful.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Unless you're just making it all up because you were
- 43:19Speaker 1: nervous to do an interview. You know, that's that could
- 43:22Speaker 1: be a too cancel.
- 43:23Speaker 7: I mean, you tell me.
- 43:25Speaker 1: Look, even Doug is interested. Now. Look you've got his attention.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Love Dad. That's empathy and compassion.
- 43:34Speaker 3: So our first question is just a really quick question.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Rit says, you're Chelsea. My best friend lives in another
- 43:41Speaker 3: state and we each have one kid. I'm due with
- 43:44Speaker 3: my second in about a month. When I excitedly told
- 43:46Speaker 3: her what I want to name the baby, she got
- 43:48Speaker 3: all quiet. When I prodded, she told me that was
- 43:51Speaker 3: her favorite baby boy name that she told me about
- 43:53Speaker 3: years ago. Honestly, I'd completely forgotten that she had quote
- 43:57Speaker 3: picked that name. I feel bad, but my husband and
- 43:59Speaker 3: I both love it. Should I use the name?
- 44:04Speaker 1: Mean? Come on, the friend doesn't have the baby yet.
- 44:07Speaker 2: No, no, well, they're both pregnant right now.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Oh I don't know.
- 44:12Speaker 3: I mean no, she says, I'm due with my second. Sorry,
- 44:16Speaker 3: I don't think they're both pregnant. I think she's doing it.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Yeah, if her friend isn't pregnant, I would say. If
- 44:21Speaker 1: the friend had been pregnant, then that is kind of like,
- 44:23Speaker 1: but why not they just name them both the same
- 44:25Speaker 1: fucking name?
- 44:26Speaker 7: Who cares?
- 44:27Speaker 2: Yeah, she lives in another state.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Yeah it's not like that.
- 44:30Speaker 7: That's ridiculous.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I go. Yeah, you can't. You don't own names.
- 44:34Speaker 1: That's not right, right, right?
- 44:36Speaker 2: Her friend needs to have like James Junior. No, just kidding,
- 44:39Speaker 2: but okay, James.
- 44:42Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god, James, do you see how
- 44:45Speaker 1: he's coming closer to you he senses. Yes, he senses.
- 44:50Speaker 1: He's sensitive like that. It's very interesting. Anytime I'm upset.
- 44:54Speaker 1: All my other dogs would leave the room when I
- 44:55Speaker 1: would cry. This dog, Whenever I'm upset, he comes right
- 44:58Speaker 1: into the room and comes right up to me.
- 45:00Speaker 7: I have my Daisi.
- 45:02Speaker 6: Whenever I'm mad, which I'm hardly ever, he like if
- 45:06Speaker 6: I'm angry at him, he doesn't really pay attention. But
- 45:10Speaker 6: if I'm angry.
- 45:12Speaker 7: If what do you mean? What happened?
- 45:15Speaker 6: And he'll look at me and go right outside and
- 45:17Speaker 6: then stare at me from the outside window like wait
- 45:20Speaker 6: until and then I just look down.
- 45:22Speaker 7: And go, I'm okay, honey, I'm all right.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Like it's so weird.
- 45:26Speaker 7: How you know. I can tell him, no, don't do that,
- 45:28Speaker 7: and he's like that, fuck you.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you know.
- 45:30Speaker 6: But if he if he senses that I'm angry, he
- 45:33Speaker 6: knows when it's real and he goes outside and just
- 45:35Speaker 6: stares at me.
- 45:37Speaker 1: Oh, they're on a different than the frequent see they're on.
- 45:40Speaker 1: I would love to be able to visually see where
- 45:43Speaker 1: you know, where they land and where how they relate
- 45:46Speaker 1: to us. It's kind of like I stoke in my
- 45:49Speaker 1: stand up people who are always like, don't you wish
- 45:51Speaker 1: you knew what your dogs were thinking? I'm like, no,
- 45:53Speaker 1: I don't want to fucking find out what my dog
- 45:54Speaker 1: is thinking. That's why I have a dog, not a kid.
- 45:57Speaker 1: I'm not looking for a feedback loop.
- 46:00Speaker 7: I don't want to think, and I don't want you
- 46:02Speaker 7: to think.
- 46:02Speaker 1: But I am interested to see what they know and
- 46:04Speaker 1: what they don't know.
- 46:05Speaker 6: My when my dad passed away, I went and got
- 46:08Speaker 6: his dog, and uh, whenever I would talk really sweet
- 46:12Speaker 6: to her, she would get on her back and just
- 46:14Speaker 6: you know, open her legs and arms. And so when
- 46:17Speaker 6: I would take her to the park and people are
- 46:19Speaker 6: their dogs are doing tricks, I would go, sweet, mama,
- 46:22Speaker 6: where's your coinpers?
- 46:25Speaker 7: Where's coinpers? She get on her back and open her legs.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I love when they get in that position.
- 46:31Speaker 7: You know, they look like those old fashioned copers, right,
- 46:35Speaker 7: And people were like, how did you train her.
- 46:38Speaker 8: To do that?
- 46:39Speaker 2: Command?
- 46:41Speaker 3: Well, our first caller today is Julie Brad.
- 46:44Speaker 2: We have Julie on theline.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Okay, So Julie says, dear Chelsea, how does one choose
- 46:49Speaker 3: a burial plot. I'm in my thirties and certainly hope
- 46:52Speaker 3: I won't need one for many years. But I also
- 46:55Speaker 3: realize everyone has to do this at some point before
- 46:57Speaker 3: they die, and I thought you might have some advice.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Are burial plots like condos? Do you get one that
- 47:02Speaker 3: works for now and just buy and sell them as
- 47:04Speaker 3: you move cities or your circumstances change. I've moved several
- 47:07Speaker 3: times as an adult and will likely move again, so
- 47:10Speaker 3: I don't feel particularly strongly about being buried in my
- 47:12Speaker 3: current city, my hometown, or anywhere else. I'm single, though
- 47:16Speaker 3: certainly open to a long term partner in this lifetime,
- 47:18Speaker 3: but don't plan to have kids. Should single people get
- 47:20Speaker 3: a plot for one or a two bedroom just in case?
- 47:23Speaker 3: Cremation seems simpler for a girl on the go, but
- 47:26Speaker 3: is not for me. My parents are divorced, and my
- 47:29Speaker 3: mom got their two plots in the settlement. She frequently
- 47:31Speaker 3: reminds me that she willed the extra plot to me.
- 47:34Speaker 3: If I don't get my own plot, I'll be stuck
- 47:36Speaker 3: arguing with this woman until the end of time, so
- 47:38Speaker 3: there's a little pressure to figure this out.
- 47:40Speaker 2: On the earlier side.
- 47:41Speaker 3: I hope you'll live forever and do this podcast another
- 47:44Speaker 3: one hundred years, but if you're comfortable sharing I'd love
- 47:46Speaker 3: to hear if you've made this decision for yourself and
- 47:48Speaker 3: how you did it. I don't have a death wish,
- 47:50Speaker 3: I swear, thanks, Julie.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Okay, you got to put your headphones on for this, Sherry,
- 47:54Speaker 1: because that's Julie right there.
- 47:55Speaker 7: Julie.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Hi, Julie.
- 47:57Speaker 7: I love how you're like on the gallo, on the go.
- 47:59Speaker 7: I don't have time for a funeral.
- 48:01Speaker 1: You're so funny, Julie. I can't believe you're worried about
- 48:04Speaker 1: this is the first time anyone has called in about
- 48:06Speaker 1: buying their own burial plot, and I honestly, first of all,
- 48:09Speaker 1: you already have one next to your mother. I really
- 48:12Speaker 1: don't believe you guys will be fighting in the afterlife.
- 48:15Speaker 1: I I love that you are consumed with this. I've
- 48:19Speaker 1: never heard anyone talk about this ever at your age.
- 48:24Speaker 1: What do you think? Why do you think you are
- 48:26Speaker 1: so consumed with this?
- 48:27Speaker 2: Planner?
- 48:28Speaker 4: I am a planner, I mean part of it. I
- 48:30Speaker 4: certainly put off making, like you know, real decisions in
- 48:34Speaker 4: my life by focusing on these not immediate decisions. I
- 48:39Speaker 4: definitely think about it when I do talk to my
- 48:43Speaker 4: mom and she reminds me that I've got this plot
- 48:46Speaker 4: waiting for me in Cleveland. I've been thinking about it.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Where I went to go visit my dad, the total
- 48:53Speaker 4: solar eclipse was over my dad's place and I went
- 48:56Speaker 4: to visit and I was like, where are we watching
- 48:58Speaker 4: this eclipse? And he was like, oh, my cemetery plot.
- 49:01Speaker 4: I own it. No one else is going to be
- 49:03Speaker 4: disturbed by a seeing there. It's like, oh, people can hate.
- 49:06Speaker 7: It that you use your plot before you die.
- 49:09Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot of them, a lot talking in
- 49:11Speaker 1: your family, so I feel like it's hereditary. I honestly
- 49:15Speaker 1: don't have that. I haven't planned for my I I
- 49:18Speaker 1: want to be cremated, so I know you said you don't,
- 49:22Speaker 1: But if this is really way, I just don't know
- 49:24Speaker 1: how you can discern at this stage in your life.
- 49:27Speaker 1: What if you meet someone, what if you end up
- 49:29Speaker 1: having a big family, whether you have what if you
- 49:32Speaker 1: marry somebody who as children and you want to be
- 49:34Speaker 1: buried with their family, I mean, being buried next to
- 49:37Speaker 1: your mom. To me, sounds like a fine idea. Yeah, well,
- 49:41Speaker 1: but also it's already a built in plot, and you're
- 49:44Speaker 1: obsessed with plots, and you already have a plot in Cleveland,
- 49:48Speaker 1: I would.
- 49:49Speaker 4: Not say this is a consuming problem for me. I
- 49:52Speaker 4: just I honestly never knew any like nobody my age
- 49:58Speaker 4: is by the cemetery plot. I don't know if this
- 50:01Speaker 4: is a thing people have.
- 50:02Speaker 7: You're a gal on the go. You need ashes that
- 50:04Speaker 7: are on the go.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Yeah, you know. I think you should reconsider cremation. I
- 50:08Speaker 1: do too. It's better for the environment, and also then
- 50:12Speaker 1: you don't have to this is way. Why are you
- 50:14Speaker 1: against cremation.
- 50:16Speaker 4: I'm not against cremation generally. It's not traditionally Jewish to
- 50:22Speaker 4: do cremation.
- 50:23Speaker 7: Right right, Yeah, you can pick out your urn now.
- 50:27Speaker 4: Even if you cremate, you have to decide where your
- 50:29Speaker 4: remains go, So that's true.
- 50:31Speaker 1: You can't think you just go on the plot next
- 50:33Speaker 1: to your mother.
- 50:35Speaker 3: She's really trying to get you next to mom.
- 50:37Speaker 1: I'm Jewish too, but I don't really hold any regard
- 50:39Speaker 1: for like, you know what we're supposed to do based
- 50:41Speaker 1: on our religion. I honestly don't know what to tell you,
- 50:45Speaker 1: except for the fact that I don't think you should
- 50:47Speaker 1: be thinking about this at this stage. You're not. You
- 50:49Speaker 1: don't know where life's gonna take you. You said you're
- 50:52Speaker 1: only in your thirties, right.
- 50:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that's why I was just wondering if people just
- 50:57Speaker 4: pulled off on them.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Do people do this? Have you thought about your Is
- 51:00Speaker 1: this a thing I'm gonna know?
- 51:02Speaker 7: But I do love Forest Lawn?
- 51:04Speaker 4: I do.
- 51:05Speaker 6: I take my drive past here. I'm like, if I
- 51:07Speaker 6: don't cremate, this is where I.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Want to be. Forest Lawn is a really in the valley.
- 51:12Speaker 1: And I was gonna say, in America, in the valley
- 51:15Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. So if you are looking for a
- 51:18Speaker 1: nice cemetery, you should check that one out. Law, But
- 51:21Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of cemetery referrals.
- 51:25Speaker 3: Yeah, you should google, like America's most Beautiful Cemetery.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Yes, that's a great idea.
- 51:29Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I mean I could spend I could be
- 51:32Speaker 4: consumed with, you know, becoming more famous, so I could
- 51:34Speaker 4: get into one of the nicer cemeteries. No, it's really not.
- 51:37Speaker 4: It's not something that I think you imagine.
- 51:39Speaker 6: I can't get into that cemetery. Everybody wants to get in.
- 51:42Speaker 2: It's too hot.
- 51:43Speaker 7: Who do you know? You got to know somebody.
- 51:45Speaker 1: It starts in preschool and ends in death.
- 51:47Speaker 6: Oh my god, just got into wagon Wheel Cemetery.
- 51:53Speaker 1: I do really appreciate the question because you're really live
- 51:56Speaker 1: and things up and freshen things up in terms of.
- 51:58Speaker 7: Things up about death.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Uh huh, that's right. Not a lot of people could
- 52:02Speaker 1: do that. But it's also a great conversation starter for
- 52:04Speaker 1: when you're out and about and see what other people
- 52:06Speaker 1: are saying.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe I'll just start asking people bringing it up idea. Yeah,
- 52:11Speaker 4: I don't know if people just kind of have this.
- 52:13Speaker 4: The people that I know that have plots are have
- 52:16Speaker 4: some sort of like family plot that they're very tied to, which.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we didn't get a plot in our family. I
- 52:22Speaker 1: remember my brother died, so then they my parents had
- 52:25Speaker 1: to get him obviously unexpectedly, like a plot, and then
- 52:28Speaker 1: they bought their two plots so that they would be
- 52:31Speaker 1: buried next to him. And then the rest of us
- 52:34Speaker 1: were like, I guess we'll just do our own thing.
- 52:39Speaker 1: I have no fucking idea what to tell you. I don't,
- 52:42Speaker 1: but I really liked the question.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Yeah, your own The one thing I will say, as
- 52:49Speaker 3: like the daughter of an elder law attorney, because I
- 52:51Speaker 3: have this sort of useless information right aling around. Later
- 52:54Speaker 3: in life, you can pre buy a plot and it
- 52:57Speaker 3: doesn't necessarily have to be attached to a certain location,
- 52:59Speaker 3: but you can like spend the money on a plot
- 53:02Speaker 3: to like guard some of your assets. It's like one
- 53:04Speaker 3: of the things that elder attorneys do to help safeguard
- 53:06Speaker 3: your estates.
- 53:07Speaker 2: So, but that's down the road very far.
- 53:09Speaker 1: But that seems like it's perfectly dovetails with what she's
- 53:12Speaker 1: trying to accomplish.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Maybe an elder attorney.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I can start talking an elder law attorney.
- 53:18Speaker 4: Oh my god, they're gonna I don't know what that
- 53:21Speaker 4: person would say to this question. I know, I don't know.
- 53:25Speaker 4: I just you know, things come up in life and
- 53:29Speaker 4: it turns out people have been thinking about them for years.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Yes, I do want more questions like this, So if
- 53:36Speaker 3: you have questions like this, please write into.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Please write answer. We could give you non answers. I'm
- 53:41Speaker 1: very excited about that.
- 53:42Speaker 4: As I was, you know, leading up to this conversation,
- 53:45Speaker 4: it was like, I feel like people right into this
- 53:47Speaker 4: podcast and they're like, my husband isn't flossing. What do
- 53:51Speaker 4: I do? And then once they get on the phone
- 53:52Speaker 4: with you, they're like, I actually have an update since
- 53:54Speaker 4: I talked to Catherine. I've murdered my husband. How any advice,
- 54:00Speaker 4: like stay into comedy careers in prison. I'm like, what
- 54:03Speaker 4: updates do I have, Like that I've died since I
- 54:05Speaker 4: wrote in I don't know.
- 54:06Speaker 1: It's not going I think it, Yes, it is. You
- 54:11Speaker 1: need to keep a surprise of what you do find
- 54:14Speaker 1: out because I think you're going to start a whole
- 54:16Speaker 1: new trend for this podcast.
- 54:18Speaker 6: I find death very very interesting, do you, Yeah, because
- 54:22Speaker 6: I did this thing where I for like two years,
- 54:25Speaker 6: I just went to bed and I would always just
- 54:28Speaker 6: listen to near death experience stories.
- 54:30Speaker 7: They're so beautiful.
- 54:32Speaker 6: It's like being told a story and I would fall
- 54:34Speaker 6: asleep to the most beautiful story that everybody from every background,
- 54:41Speaker 6: you know, they experienced. Especially with medical advancements, so many
- 54:44Speaker 6: people are being revived and the stories are so beautiful.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Where do you find those on YouTube? Yeah?
- 54:52Speaker 3: And I just read a book of near death experiences.
- 54:54Speaker 3: I'll put the link in.
- 54:55Speaker 7: The Brian Weiss, Betty J Betty JA.
- 55:00Speaker 6: I've read so many books on near death experience stories
- 55:04Speaker 6: and they change the lives of the people that have
- 55:07Speaker 6: had the experience.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Is that many masters many lives Brian Wise, Okay, these
- 55:10Speaker 1: a couple of books. Yeah, so start reading books about death.
- 55:13Speaker 4: Okay, a cemetery.
- 55:20Speaker 1: I think I think you need to start some sort
- 55:22Speaker 1: of online club or a Facebook group to find out
- 55:26Speaker 1: how many other people are like you thinking about this, like.
- 55:29Speaker 4: A chosen family cemetery.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Yeah, people with the same interests exactly.
- 55:35Speaker 7: You come from a dysfunctional family, you get to choose.
- 55:40Speaker 1: Oh, well, thank you for calling.
- 55:42Speaker 4: In, Thank you so much.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Bye. Sorry for all the dog interruptions. Somehow ray J
- 55:48Speaker 1: got loose.
- 55:49Speaker 7: That to me is not an interruption.
- 55:59Speaker 3: Well, I do have one more caller, and she's sort
- 56:01Speaker 3: of like on the brink of starting a new life.
- 56:03Speaker 2: Do we want to.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Sure, let's do that, and then we'll wrap things up.
- 56:06Speaker 1: And we have to promote scary movie, which is where
- 56:08Speaker 1: you're here in the first place, because you're in scary
- 56:10Speaker 1: movie and it's coming out.
- 56:11Speaker 7: Actually, I'm here because of you.
- 56:14Speaker 1: You're you're here because you love to be interviewed.
- 56:19Speaker 6: No, I just love you. But yeah, scary movies. Is
- 56:24Speaker 6: it should be cool? It's so funny to cook twenty
- 56:26Speaker 6: five years later.
- 56:27Speaker 1: I know, I know, isn't that crazy? It is so
- 56:29Speaker 1: crazy all of these things that are happening from twenty
- 56:32Speaker 1: like these remakes and continuations you're like when you were little,
- 56:36Speaker 1: you thought twenty five years was the end of the world. Yes,
- 56:38Speaker 1: And the fact that we're all still kind of looking
- 56:41Speaker 1: remotely the same and at the same premises work and
- 56:44Speaker 1: the same plot it is pretty fascinating. Yeah, and it's
- 56:47Speaker 1: such a great franchise. People fucking love scary movies.
- 56:50Speaker 6: I can't believe it. I can't believe how much, how
- 56:52Speaker 6: excited so many people are for this. Yeah, they really are,
- 56:55Speaker 6: you know. Yeah it was fun.
- 56:56Speaker 3: Yeah, well, Gretchen says dear Chelsea. I've been a fan
- 57:00Speaker 3: for a long time. I really appreciate how clearly you
- 57:03Speaker 3: live your life on your own terms. I'm forty one,
- 57:06Speaker 3: a therapist in the Midwest and a widow. My husband
- 57:08Speaker 3: died by suicide several years ago. Since then, I've done
- 57:11Speaker 3: everything I was supposed to do, grieved, rebuilt, stayed functional,
- 57:15Speaker 3: and kept my life together. On paper, it works. I'm stable, responsible, fine.
- 57:20Speaker 3: I just don't feel like I belong in it. Internally,
- 57:23Speaker 3: I feel more and more out of place, stir crazy
- 57:25Speaker 3: where I am craving a different environment, different work, and
- 57:28Speaker 3: a different kind of community. I'm planning to move to
- 57:30Speaker 3: New York City soon and build something more aligned. I'm
- 57:33Speaker 3: open to partnership even marriage again, but I'm not attached
- 57:36Speaker 3: to a timeline, and I don't have kids. I'm starting
- 57:39Speaker 3: to accept that my life doesn't look anything like I
- 57:41Speaker 3: once thought it would, or like the lives of most
- 57:43Speaker 3: people around me. From the outside, it looks like I'd
- 57:46Speaker 3: be walking away from a perfectly good life. I can't
- 57:48Speaker 3: always tell if what I'm feeling is real clarity or restlessness,
- 57:52Speaker 3: grief and burnout. So I guess what I'm asking is,
- 57:55Speaker 3: how do you trust yourself when your life looks fine
- 57:57Speaker 3: feels off? How do you know your fall your intuition
- 58:01Speaker 3: and not just blowing up something stable because it no
- 58:03Speaker 3: longer fits. And how do you fully step into a
- 58:05Speaker 3: life that's more honest for you when it doesn't look
- 58:07Speaker 3: like what you expected or what anyone around you is choosing.
- 58:11Speaker 3: I'm right at the edge of changing my life, and
- 58:13Speaker 3: I don't want to ignore that or talk myself out
- 58:15Speaker 3: of it.
- 58:15Speaker 1: Warmly, Gretchen, Hi, Gretchen Grety, what a beautiful letter. This
- 58:20Speaker 1: is Sherry Terry, our special guest Day. Yeah. First of all,
- 58:26Speaker 1: I'm so sorry that you lost your husband. I can't
- 58:30Speaker 1: imagine what you must have gone through and your letter
- 58:34Speaker 1: almost has kind of the answers that you're looking for. Truly,
- 58:38Speaker 1: like you are stepping into the unknown, that is that
- 58:42Speaker 1: is not comfortable. There are moments of discomfort along the
- 58:46Speaker 1: way in all of our lives. And the only thing
- 58:50Speaker 1: that you can tell yourself all the time is that
- 58:52Speaker 1: none of these phases are permanent. All of your feelings
- 58:55Speaker 1: of discomfort are temporary. And moving into a new space,
- 58:59Speaker 1: start a new life, which is the exact advice I
- 59:02Speaker 1: would be giving you. I would say, get up and
- 59:04Speaker 1: move to a new city. And you're already doing that,
- 59:06Speaker 1: moving into this new version of you. And what you
- 59:10Speaker 1: said is you're about to live a life. This is
- 59:12Speaker 1: life is not how you expected it to be. Welcome
- 59:15Speaker 1: to the world, right, none of us have gotten exactly
- 59:19Speaker 1: what we wanted or when we wanted to get it,
- 59:22Speaker 1: or have held on to the people that we love
- 59:24Speaker 1: the most. It just doesn't work that way. But what
- 59:27Speaker 1: is beautiful is when you accept the situation that you're
- 59:32Speaker 1: in and you figure out how to make that beautiful
- 59:36Speaker 1: and how to build back again, because there is so
- 59:39Speaker 1: much beauty in that. And I have no qualms or
- 59:44Speaker 1: uneasiness about how bright your future is just your letter alone.
- 59:49Speaker 1: You already got it. You're there.
- 59:51Speaker 7: Your life, life breaks you down to open you up.
- 59:56Speaker 1: What do they do? Snap? This is it? This is
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: what the kids do. And actually, so I guess. I mean,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I'm telling you everything.
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: You have the answers, but you're judging yourself, and you
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: know it's a you adhere to these social norms that
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: just don't.
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: Fit you, you know.
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: So it's kind of like you already know what to do,
- 1:00:17Speaker 6: but you think you're supposed to be sure. Everything is
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: supposed to be. There's no guarantees, but you know the
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: old thing of follow your heart and where you think
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: you might want to go. I'm telling you, if bad
- 1:00:28Speaker 6: things didn't happen to me, I would have probably gone
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: in a direction that wouldn't have served me well for
- 1:00:35Speaker 6: the long run.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Yeah, talk about unexpected life. I mean, everything we've just
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: talked about you weren't expecting in your life. But also
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: the unknown is comfortable, and trust the unknown when things
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: are uneasy and you're not sure, trust it. Just trust
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: that you're where you're supposed to be. And I know
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: that doesn't feel sometimes that feels like something like trite
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: to say, but it is the biggest lesson that I
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: have learned is the moments of discomfort. There is always
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: a light at the end of your tunnel, always, and
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: there says there's going to be another tunnel too, you know,
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: and then there's going to be a light at the
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: end of that. So just make sure when you're in
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: these moments, you're really in them. When you're in the grief,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: be in it. When you're in the light, be in
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: the light and trust yourself because you're on the right track.
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: The universe is moving you.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: You're emitting light. I can see it coming off of
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: your life, body, your soul.
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: I'm telling you, I.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: Love it so so you're doing everything and we're cheering
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: you on, sir.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: I love your mission.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: You got it, you got it. Go live out loud.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Thank you much.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: I really appreciate it.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Sending you so much love.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: Thank you us posted. Send us a postcard when you
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: get to New York. Okay, absolutely, yes, I will do.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Yeah, Bye bye, Gretchen. Awesome. I know what a wonderful
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: ending to today's episode. I love that.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: And she's not like a timeline too, like she's like
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: on the move. It's probably happening in a few months.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: She's doing it.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: That's a great letter for anyone who's sitting or listening
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: to this thinking like, how do I pick up the
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: pieces of an unexpected you know, something happening in your
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: life that's unexpected, which is what life is. Cherry, I
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: love you. You are just a bundle of joy. Scary Movie
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: six is in theaters now. You can go experience that
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: bundle of joy.
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: And uh, I'm doing celebrity autobiography.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: Oh great, way. Oh I'm gonna come see you. Yeah
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: for sure. When is it? When does that start?
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: Okay, it's already started, but they're changing cast members and
- 1:02:54Speaker 6: I am doing it from I'll be there until the sixth,
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: so like I think the twenty ninth of Everybod, the
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: end of June, sasy Pants, the end of June.
- 1:03:06Speaker 7: Okay, I'm going to beat June twenty nine.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Yeah, the sixth of July. Yeah, I will come to
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: see you, all right. I have that window because I'm
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: going on a trip and I'm going to come through
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: the East Coast. I'm coming to see you and.
- 1:03:16Speaker 7: I'm going to Mayorka.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Robin said, yeah, yeah you Robin. Y'all get out
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: of my house, Robin, Right, I love it. Thank you
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: for being here.
