- 0:30Good morning. So good to be here with you guys
- 0:34once again. This is our second home and then
- 0:36we we love it here and my wife is with me this morning.
- 0:40Many you remember. Amen.
- 0:43Norma's right over here and thank you for your prayers.
- 0:47You had a double organ transplant back in September.
- 0:51Her liver is doing fine. The kidneys not not so much and
- 0:55so she's looking at a second kidney transplant here pretty
- 0:59quick. Everything's been green lighted.
- 1:01Everything's a go. In fact, it was a dear sister in
- 1:06the Lord that is going to be a living donor for her kidney and
- 1:11and one of your one of your people here, Amen.
- 1:15Praise the Lord, yes, Amen. And that's, that's, that's a
- 1:20whole story in and of itself and how that all came about having
- 1:23this living donor, dear sister in the Lord, but also God just
- 1:27putting the pieces together. The living donors caseworker is
- 1:32a member of this fellowship. My name is Lindsay.
- 1:34And so Lindsay, I don't know if you're here, but God bless you,
- 1:36Lindsay, thank you, Amen, for helping expedite things.
- 1:40So God is just good all around. Amen.
- 1:44Today I want to, I want to first of all, foremost before I go
- 1:49anyway, I want to thank Ed and Ed and Marie, thank you so much
- 1:53for allowing us to come and to be a part of what God, this
- 1:58tremendous work that God is doing here at Calvary Church in
- 2:01Aurora. So we're blessed to be here.
- 2:04I want to encourage you today with a message entitled forward
- 2:06faith and encourage you to move forward in your faith.
- 2:10Regardless of where you are in your faith.
- 2:12God is always pushing us forward, not pushing us, leading
- 2:16us to move forward. So if you have a Bible, please
- 2:20open to second Peter chapter 3, verses 14 and to 16.
- 2:25And we'll be looking at today. So not a whole lot of verses,
- 2:28but I managed to get an hour and a half message out of it.
- 2:32But no, not an hour and a half. It's not that long.
- 2:37Let's pray. Father, thank you so much for
- 2:40this glorious opportunity to share your word.
- 2:43I pray that you will bless your word.
- 2:45It is not the opinion of men, it is not Republican or Democrat,
- 2:48it's not liberal or conservative.
- 2:50It is your word and Jesus in my word of spirit of his life.
- 2:54May your word go forth with the promise that it will not return
- 2:57to you void but will accomplish what you Father send it to do be
- 3:02glorified. We pray in Jesus name and
- 3:04everyone said Amen some years ago and share the stories.
- 3:09A little embarrassing, but my kids are really small and, you
- 3:13know, we were taking them to Disney World and, you know, and
- 3:17my wife always arranged the, the travel and the flights and all,
- 3:22and, and we, she couldn't get a, you know, a flight at, you know,
- 3:29my time, which would be like 12 noon or something.
- 3:33And you were only able to fly away to be at the airport like
- 3:36at 4:00 in the morning. Now, I don't know, there may be
- 3:39some people in here like me. I I'm not the most chirpy and
- 3:43cheery person in the world early in the morning, you know, I'm
- 3:48known as the grump in my house early in the morning when I get
- 3:51up. I'm not, I'm not always, you
- 3:53know, perky, you know, and but you know, so that morning I was
- 3:58a you know, so grabbing the bags, I have my one suitcase, I
- 4:01have my wife, 4 suitcases. And yeah, and the kids are
- 4:07pulling their little suitcases. We're standing there in line.
- 4:09Sure enough, get to the airport 4:00 in the morning is and
- 4:12there's this line so long that we're going to miss our flight
- 4:15and we're rushing and, and we're standing in this line.
- 4:18So my wife, she's very innovative and creative.
- 4:21And so she goes up and asked one of the authorities at the
- 4:24airport if there's any way we can get this shorter line so we
- 4:27can get through and make our flight.
- 4:28And the guy said not a problem, gave her authority to do it.
- 4:31And next thing I know, she's way up there and she's waving at me,
- 4:34right? Just, you know, so has an
- 4:35obedient husband. I go drag and everything up
- 4:38there grumpy. And when I get up there, there's
- 4:41this gentleman who is kind of berating my wife and my, my
- 4:45children and you can't get in this line.
- 4:47You need to get in the back and blah, blah, blah.
- 4:49And, you know, and my wife's ignoring him and I went up there
- 4:52and I, he was talking and he was in back of me and I was, you
- 4:57know, and, and you know, felt like the Lord said, just just
- 5:01love him and pray for him in Jesus name.
- 5:04And I rejected the Lord's counsel and turned and turned
- 5:09around and looked at the guy and said, we heard you.
- 5:11And he persisted to talk. So he and I had a little
- 5:15fellowship there. And so it was so intense that
- 5:19they, they call security. Anyway, that story I tell you
- 5:25because I just thought about it later on.
- 5:28I thought it was kind of embarrassing, but but Lord, it's
- 5:30kind of like the devil. God has given you a promise, has
- 5:35given you permission to move forward from where you are.
- 5:37He's told you to come to follow me and the devil is standing
- 5:41like this guy in line and just berating you and say you have no
- 5:44business being here. Who do you think you are moving
- 5:47up to the front? Get in the back.
- 5:50I want you back there living in the past.
- 5:52I want you back there living with your guilt and your
- 5:54failure. How dare you think you could
- 5:56move forward even though God has given you permission to be
- 5:59there? Just like the enemy telling you
- 6:04that you you can't be. Some place that God has ordained
- 6:07you to be has given you permission to be.
- 6:10Amen. God has called you to move
- 6:13forward and the devil's always challenging you and demanding
- 6:20that you move backwards. I want to talk to you about
- 6:23moving forward today in your face, continuing in Christ, to
- 6:28ignore the lies of the enemy and to move forward by the promises
- 6:33of God. Is that all right?
- 6:35Amen. And how do we move forward?
- 6:36There's three ways I'm going to share with you this morning from
- 6:40our text, and that is through divine perspective, divine
- 6:45persistence, and divine patience.
- 6:49That is the patience of our Lord God towards us.
- 6:53This message is important because it keeps us moving
- 6:55forward. It's an antidote against being
- 6:58stagnant in our faith. God never wants us to be
- 7:00stagnant. He wants us to be, to continue
- 7:02to grow in our faith. He wants us to grow for our own
- 7:06good and for His glory. So we look at verse 14 here
- 7:13within our text, the very first part of verse 14, we find our
- 7:16first point on how to continue to move forward in the Lord.
- 7:23How do we do that? Through divine perspective,
- 7:26Peter says here in verse 14, the very first part, he says,
- 7:28therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things.
- 7:33Now let's just stop right there. Looking forward to what things?
- 7:36Where you got to go to verse 13 to find out what he's talking
- 7:38about. He's talking about the new
- 7:40heaven and the new earth. Did you know there's going to be
- 7:42a new heaven and new earth? Revelation chapter 21, verse one
- 7:46says John the Revelator, as he's referred to many times, John the
- 7:52Apostle John says there's going to be a new heaven and a new
- 7:55earth that will come into existence.
- 7:57And this is after the 1000 year reign of Christ and a new heaven
- 8:00and new earth will appear. And, and, and Peter was just
- 8:04talking about that in verse 13 about this new heaven and new
- 8:07earth, the very promise of God, an irrevocable promise of a new
- 8:12heaven and a new earth. Often say as believers, this is,
- 8:17is a true statement. No matter what you're going
- 8:19through right now in your life, no matter what you may be
- 8:21experiencing, maybe people here or you're watching online and
- 8:24you feel you're in total despair and, and how are you going to
- 8:27get out of the situation? You are and you feel hopeless or
- 8:29whatever. But as a believer in Jesus
- 8:31Christ, no matter what we're going through right now, you
- 8:35know what the best is yet to come.
- 8:38The best is yet to come. Amen.
- 8:40And what is that? The new heaven and new earth.
- 8:42Oh, we're going to see Jesus. Amen.
- 8:44And the Bible says when we see him, he's going to wipe every
- 8:46tear from our eyes. Amen.
- 8:48Praise God. We look forward with a divine
- 8:55perspective, understanding that life consists not only of the
- 9:01things that we see, but the things that are unseen.
- 9:05Divine perspective is not based on what I can see or, or what I
- 9:09feel, but it's based on the things that are unseen.
- 9:11In fact, the Bible says this. Paul the apostle in Second
- 9:14Corinthians chapter 4 verse 18 says, while we do not look at
- 9:17the things which are seen, but at the things which are not
- 9:22seen, for the things which are seen or temporary, but the
- 9:26things which are not seen are eternal.
- 9:27Amen. Everything you see around you
- 9:30right now, the person sitting next to you, the the chairs of
- 9:33this building, all these things, everything will pass away.
- 9:37It is all temporary. But that which is unseen, that
- 9:40which God is spoken into existence, that which is, is,
- 9:44is, is ordained by the Word of God.
- 9:46It will last for all eternity. We talk about faith in a faith
- 9:51perspective. If faith is resting in God's
- 9:56perspective, what God is able to see, God sees things that you
- 10:00cannot see. I'm, I'm reminded of, of the,
- 10:04the account in Luke chapter 22 when, when the apostle Peter is
- 10:08boasting and bragging to Jesus about how everybody's going to
- 10:11abandon you, Lord, but I'm going to Lord, I'm never going to
- 10:13abandon you. Those guys are flakes, but not
- 10:15me. I'm the real deal.
- 10:16That's what Peter was basically saying to Jesus, I'm the real
- 10:20deal. I'm never going to abandon you.
- 10:21And it's like Jesus, you know, pull back the curtain of
- 10:23eternity to show him things that he could not see.
- 10:26And he said, now come here, Pete, let me show you something
- 10:30the devil has asked for you. Oh, really?
- 10:36Well, isn't that a sobering thought?
- 10:38If the Lord would come to you and say to you, the devil wants
- 10:40your address, the devil has asked for you that he might sift
- 10:45you like wheat. But Jesus said, but I prayed for
- 10:48you that your faith would not fail, not your feelings.
- 10:53Our feelings will fail you. The psalmist said in Psalm 73,
- 10:56My flesh and my heart failed, but God, it's the strength of my
- 11:00heart and my portion forever, Amen.
- 11:03My flesh and my heart may fail. He said, I, Jesus said, I pray
- 11:06that your faith would not fail. Aren't you glad Jesus is praying
- 11:09for you right now, that your faith, your feelings are going
- 11:13to fail, your friends are going to fail, your family's going to
- 11:16fail, but that your faith would not fail.
- 11:19Your perspective of what God can do will not fail.
- 11:22And then he said to Peter, after you return to me, I'm sure
- 11:25Peter's like, where am I going? He was going to deny Jesus three
- 11:29times. Jesus knew it.
- 11:30He knows the end from the beginning.
- 11:33After you deny me, after, you know, after you return to me, he
- 11:36said, don't sit around licking your wounds, feeling sorry for
- 11:39yourself. Walk by faith, go strengthen
- 11:41your brethren. That's a whole nother message,
- 11:44Amen. But Peter could not see the
- 11:49unseen. Jesus could.
- 11:51God wants us to trust that He has a divine perspective that we
- 11:55do not have. Amen.
- 11:58The old saying is that perception is reality.
- 12:01What is our reality as believers is Jesus.
- 12:05What's your perception of life? Is it conservative?
- 12:09Is it liberal? What is your perception?
- 12:11It ought to be Christ. In fact, the Bible says Christ
- 12:14is our life. Christ is our reality.
- 12:18Jesus said heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will by
- 12:22no means pass away. God does know the end from the
- 12:27beginning because He knows the end from the beginning.
- 12:29He's able to walk into the very midst of your mess and speak
- 12:33these words. He has to do a divine audacity
- 12:36to say these words to you right now, non care what you're
- 12:38facing. What I'm going to listen.
- 12:40You know, life is not always easy.
- 12:43And he walks into the midst of our mess and you know what he
- 12:44says? Fear not.
- 12:47How does he say that? Lord, you don't know.
- 12:50You don't know the boss I'm working with.
- 12:52You don't know the husband I'm married to.
- 12:54Lord, you don't know my situation.
- 12:55The doctor just said I have this.
- 12:57What do you mean fear not because I know the end from the
- 13:00beginning. Amen.
- 13:03Fear not. He knows.
- 13:08He has the audacity to come in and say fear not.
- 13:12Trust in my perspective, not in what you feel or what you can
- 13:16see, your limited capacity to see what is going to happen.
- 13:22Fear not if we will trust in His power and His perspective, the
- 13:26Lord will make a way for us. In Proverbs chapter 3, verses 5
- 13:30and 6, and I put all these scriptures up here.
- 13:33I didn't write them all out for you and hope that you would
- 13:35write them down and go back and read them yourselves again.
- 13:38Many of you know this one. Proverbs 3, verses 5 and six.
- 13:41Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own
- 13:44understanding. In all your ways.
- 13:45Acknowledge Him, and He will what He shall direct your past.
- 13:50What are you leaning on today has a lot to do with your
- 13:53perspective. If you're leaning on your
- 13:55feelings, your perspective will be limited.
- 13:59Your feelings will fail you. If you're leaning on your
- 14:01friends, they can fail you, leaning on your finances.
- 14:05Amen. A little short this month.
- 14:10You're leaning on Jesus. You'll be all right.
- 14:14Somebody said, oh, you, you follow Jesus because he's
- 14:17nothing but a crutch. So yeah, he is a crutch.
- 14:20The difference between my crutch and your crutch, my crutch will
- 14:23never break. Lean not on your own
- 14:27understanding, but lean on Jesus.
- 14:30Lean on his perspective, divine perspective, and you'll be able
- 14:34to move forward in Christ. The second aspect of forward
- 14:40faith, if you will, if we're going to move forward is divine
- 14:44persistence. Now verse 14 here in second
- 14:48Peter chapter 3, Peter says in the latter part of verse 14, be
- 14:52diligent and be to be found. Be diligent to be found by Him
- 14:58in peace, without spot and blameless.
- 15:02To me, that speaks of relationships.
- 15:04So when I talk about divine persistence, I'm talking about
- 15:07our relationships in Christ. As believers, there needs to be
- 15:11divine persistence in our willingness, excuse me, to love
- 15:16one another. Diligence is the same as
- 15:19persistence. Why?
- 15:22Because it speaks of continued effort.
- 15:25There has to be continued effort in our relationships, and if
- 15:29we're going to move forward, we need to be persistent in loving
- 15:34one another. Now understand this, that
- 15:37positionally by faith, we put our faith in Jesus Christ.
- 15:42We are already at peace with God.
- 15:44We're already spotless. We're already blameless.
- 15:46Why do I say that? Because he who knew no sin
- 15:49became sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God
- 15:52in him. When you look at yourself in the
- 15:54mirrors, you say I'm looking at the righteousness of God.
- 15:57Why? Not because of you're perfect,
- 15:59but because you put your faith in Christ.
- 16:01And when God looks at you, he sees the righteousness,
- 16:04righteousness of His Son. But the reality is until we get
- 16:09to heaven, we are pilgrims going through this world.
- 16:12We are sojourners going through this world.
- 16:14The reality is that practically speaking, you have to endeavor
- 16:19to live a life that is at peace and spotless and blameless.
- 16:26The Bible calls it the the the work of sanctification, how the
- 16:29Holy Spirit works in our lives and sanctifies us that what
- 16:32simply means that he's makes us more like Jesus each and every
- 16:35day. That's the work of the Holy
- 16:37Spirit within our lives. But practically I however, we
- 16:41are still in this flesh suit and I have to endeavor and be
- 16:45persistent in exemplifying the fact that I am a son or daughter
- 16:52of the living God. I can't say that I know the Lord
- 16:58and then walk in darkness. I can't say I'm in the light and
- 17:04walk in darkness. The Bible clearly tells us that
- 17:06Ephesians chapter 4 verses one to three Paul the apostle writes
- 17:10there. He says therefore the as a
- 17:12prisoner, therefore I I therefore ask you, I'll get it
- 17:16right. I therefore the prisoner of the
- 17:17Lord beseech you to walk worthy. We're not in heaven yet, we're
- 17:26still in his flesh suit. He says walk worthy.
- 17:28That requires persistence. What worthy of the calling with
- 17:32which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness and
- 17:38long-suffering. That's in our relationships.
- 17:40And those are characteristics, by the way, of a persistent
- 17:44believer, disciple of Christ, he goes on to say, bearing with one
- 17:50another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of of the Spirit
- 17:56and the bond of peace. Colossians chapter 3 talks about
- 18:00this as well. It says that if you, if you have
- 18:03a complaint against another brother or sister in Christ,
- 18:06then you ought to forgive each other and love each other as
- 18:10Christ has forgiven you. Amen.
- 18:13Do you have a do you have a complaint against a brother or
- 18:17sister in Christ? You have a complaint against
- 18:19your spouse in Christ. You know, the Bible says that
- 18:22forgive them like God forgave you.
- 18:28Hey, man, and you, you have to be if, if you want to be a
- 18:32disciple of Christ, you got to be persistent in that.
- 18:35But, but, but let's face the, let's face the reality.
- 18:37OK, let's get real. There's nothing that depletes my
- 18:40persistence in the Lord probably more than people.
- 18:45Amen. I mean you came here with a
- 18:49smile on your face and someone took your parking spot.
- 18:53You haven't heard a thing nobody said right now you still think
- 18:56took my can't believe took my parkas.
- 18:58But you always sit in the same place.
- 19:00Somebody's in your seat, you know?
- 19:03I mean we're weird creatures. Amen.
- 19:07But but people dealing with people, the church will be a
- 19:10glorious place if it wasn't for people.
- 19:15You can't say I love you Lord, but I hate your people in Jesus
- 19:20name. You just can't.
- 19:21You just can't do that, Amen. Nothing depletes your, your,
- 19:26your persistence. You know, you get up in the
- 19:28morning, wouldn't be persistent. I'm going to persevere today.
- 19:30And then there's your spouse, Amen.
- 19:37You got 2 imperfect people living in a perfect union and
- 19:42God says in that union I want you to be at peace, spotless and
- 19:47blameless. Wow, the test of our
- 19:52relationship with God is based upon our relationship with one
- 19:56another. Did you know that you can't say
- 20:01that I love God whom I have not seen and hate my brother who I
- 20:05see. If I say I love the Lord, the
- 20:08Lord can say prove it. Love one another.
- 20:13Wow, be persistent in your love. For one another, you've said it
- 20:23and I know I've said it probably before.
- 20:25Maybe you didn't say it. I've said it.
- 20:27It comes to people getting on your nerves sometimes if you
- 20:29know, hey, you know, they're getting on my, my last nerve.
- 20:34I don't know how many nerves we have, but there's that last one.
- 20:36We always know when that they get on that last one.
- 20:40You are my last nerve. But here's let me tell you this,
- 20:44God does his best work on your last nerve.
- 20:47When you come to the end of yourself, when you give up, when
- 20:52you say God, I cannot do it. God says, I've been waiting for
- 20:54you to admit that, now let me do it.
- 20:59God does his best work on your last nerve.
- 21:05Peter declares as disciples of Jesus we are called to be
- 21:10persistent, be at peace, spotless, blameless, persistent
- 21:15in loving one another. Bible tells us that iron
- 21:19sharpens iron. In other words, somebody's not
- 21:22always going to agree with you. How do you get something sharp
- 21:24not all going the same way? This thing is so funny.
- 21:30And people are looking, you know, for single people, they're
- 21:33looking for somebody who's compatible with them that's
- 21:35going to like the things they like and do all these kind of
- 21:39things. No, God, listen, we know what
- 21:42marriage is. When God brings you a spouse, he
- 21:44brings you, you know, you, you, you first, you know, especially
- 21:46guys, you know, we, our wives, oh, they're just so gentle, so
- 21:50soft. They're just so wonderful, you
- 21:51know, You know, they're disguised.
- 21:54They're disguised because after you've been married they become
- 21:58sandpaper. They're not so soft.
- 22:02And you can Lord, she was so gentle, so soft, and now she's
- 22:04running me the wrong way. Because iron sharpens iron.
- 22:12If God brings you somebody that's compatible, it's going
- 22:14your way all the time, Whatever, that's not a marriage, that's
- 22:18deception. That's a fantasy.
- 22:20I don't know what that is. My wife and I, hey, we'll be
- 22:24married July 19th this year. 50 years, 50 years, 50 years of
- 22:35blessed bliss. We've never had an argument.
- 22:37We've never had a disagreement. It's just been, you know, just
- 22:40wonderful, just wonderful all the time.
- 22:43Just oh, there's been some days of I mean, that little sandpaper
- 22:51on a block. It's one of those things you
- 22:54plug in the wall that that grinder sparker flying
- 22:57everywhere, you know, iron sharpener.
- 23:01And so we have to we learn to be persistent and loving when it
- 23:06persevering and loving one another.
- 23:09Ephesians chapter 4 just read a few moments ago, and Paul says
- 23:14bearing with one of the bearing and love.
- 23:16Literally that word bearing means holding up one another in
- 23:20love, not beating up one another, holding up one another
- 23:24in love. That takes persistence.
- 23:28We're also called to endeavor. Endeavor literally means to
- 23:32hasten with all diligence to be united.
- 23:36If there's something wrong or something that divides us, let's
- 23:38get it settled, let's reconcile, let's pray about it, let's deal
- 23:42with it. So if you have to endeavor, that
- 23:45means you have to be persistent and loving one another to love
- 23:54those who love you. Jesus said it's no big deal.
- 23:57I'm paraphrasing, he said. But to love those who talk about
- 24:01you, who spitefully use you to love your enemies, He said.
- 24:07Now you're being like your Father in heaven.
- 24:12I've always said it's not a church's ability to never have a
- 24:14problem, but it's the church's ability to love one another that
- 24:18really is a witness of Christ through our problems.
- 24:23In fact, as believers, I believe God called us to be first
- 24:28responders spiritually, to be that like a police officer who
- 24:34doesn't run from the gunshots but who runs toward the gunfire.
- 24:39To be like the fireman who doesn't run out of the building
- 24:41when it's burning, but he runs toward it to put the fire out.
- 24:45As believers in our relationship, that's what we're
- 24:47called to do. To be first spiritual first
- 24:50responders to the glory of God, to love one another.
- 24:58Persistence is crucial. Also in loving one another is
- 25:06crucial to what? To our witness, our witness to
- 25:11the fact that God so loved the world that he sent his one and
- 25:14only Son, that whosoever will believe in him shall not perish,
- 25:16but have everlasting life. Why do I say that?
- 25:19Because it's when you, when we divide among ourselves, when we
- 25:23refuse to love each other, refuse to be first responders
- 25:26and try to resolve things and be united, we are working against
- 25:32the very prayer of Jesus Christ. I don't want to be on that side.
- 25:41Jesus prayed this in John chapter 17 verses 20 and 21.
- 25:45He said I do not pray for these alone.
- 25:47He's talking about His disciples and all, but also for those who
- 25:51will believe in me, that's you and me who will believe in Me
- 25:57through their words. Excuse me?
- 25:59That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in me, and I in
- 26:05you, that they also may be one in US.
- 26:08Why? That the world may believe that
- 26:12you sent me? How is the world going to
- 26:15believe that God so loved the world when we can't love one
- 26:20another? Unity, which glorifies our Lord,
- 26:30requires what I call spiritual sweat equity.
- 26:34We want love and we want peace and all these things.
- 26:36Then you got to put the work in. You got to put the work in.
- 26:40Little boxes will tell you that you got to put the work in.
- 26:43You got to show up at the gym, you got to punch the bag.
- 26:45You got to do the crunches, you got to do exercise.
- 26:47You got to jump rope. You got to you got to put the
- 26:48work in. If you want to be a contender,
- 26:51If we want to be a contender, we have to put the work in.
- 26:55And love, my friend, is work. You see, it's far easier in our
- 26:59society today to label people rather than love people.
- 27:02Why? Because love is work.
- 27:06It's far easier to label you a racist or whatever than it is to
- 27:10get to know you, to understand you, to sit down and have a cup
- 27:15of coffee with you, to take time out of my schedule, to actually
- 27:19understand you. In fact, the Bible says that
- 27:22husband, the first Peter chapter, first Peter chapter 3,
- 27:25that we ought to dwell with our wives as understanding because
- 27:29we don't dwell with our wives with understanding.
- 27:31He says if you don't do that, make that effort, your prayers
- 27:34will be hindered. God says you want to move
- 27:37forward in your marriage, but you don't.
- 27:39You don't care anything about understanding your wife.
- 27:42You can't move forward with me till you move forward with her.
- 27:47That's another message, but the point it's valid.
- 27:54God is saying put the work in. Love is work.
- 28:01Love is persistent effort. The problem with in my life, my
- 28:06confession with being persistent in the Lord so that I can move
- 28:12forward in the Lord has to do with my unwillingness as many
- 28:17times to die to myself, to be crucified.
- 28:22I don't want to die to myself. Did Jesus not say unless you
- 28:25pick up your cross and follow me daily, you cannot be my my
- 28:28disciple. In other words, he was like,
- 28:30don't even be front if you're not picking up your cross and
- 28:34follow me. How how many times daily you
- 28:37cannot be my disciple. And Paul the apostle said it
- 28:43this way. He said I die daily, I die
- 28:47daily. In Galatians chapter 2 verses 20
- 28:52and 21, he said I have been crucified with Christ.
- 28:55It is no longer I who live, Oh really?
- 29:01But Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the
- 29:06flesh. I live by faith in the Son of
- 29:10God who loved me and gave himself for me.
- 29:13Amen. 2nd Corinthians chapter 4. It's not on the screen, but
- 29:19again, if you're taking notes, you can write this down.
- 29:21Second Corinthians chapter 4, verses 11:50 says this.
- 29:25And Paul says that I always carry about in my body the dying
- 29:28of the Lord Jesus Christ, that the life of Christ might be
- 29:30manifested in my flesh. So then death is always working
- 29:33in me, but life is working in you.
- 29:35In other words, you need to die so somebody else around you can
- 29:37live. And if you're carrying your
- 29:41cross with you daily, they're going to be time.
- 29:43That's what Jesus said. Take it with you daily because
- 29:45you're going to encounter somebody that you want to just
- 29:47smack in the next week and Jesus is going to say, now it's time
- 29:52for you to get on your cross and be crucified.
- 29:55You're going to have a disagreement with your wife or
- 29:58whatever. Somebody's going to cut you off
- 30:00on the on the road. You're trying to get to work and
- 30:02they cut you off and you want to just kind of give them a piece
- 30:04of your mind or whatever. And the Lord is saying to you in
- 30:07the car while you're driving, get on the cross, be crucified.
- 30:14Jesus was crucified because he he prayed and he wept and he
- 30:19sweat great drops of blood in the Garden of Gethsemane.
- 30:22And this is what crucifixion means.
- 30:24Nevertheless, not my will, but your will be done.
- 30:30That's being persistent, that's endeavoring, That is moving
- 30:34forward in Christ. When I choose to die to myself
- 30:38so that my wife can be edified, I choose to die to myself so my
- 30:42my husband can be edified so that the body of Christ can be
- 30:46edified. That's what God has called us to
- 30:48do. Persistence, perseverance is
- 30:51essential because the way that Jesus has called us to go is not
- 30:55easy. Love is not always easy.
- 30:59And Jesus said in Matthew Chapter 7 verses 13 to 14 that
- 31:03enter, enter by the, the the narrow gate for wide is the gate
- 31:07and broad is the way that leads to destruction.
- 31:11And there are many who go in by it because narrow is the gate.
- 31:18And listen to this. Why did he say this?
- 31:21Because it's true. And difficult is the way which
- 31:26leads to life. And there are few who find it.
- 31:30Why are there few? Because there are few who are
- 31:32willing to die to themselves. Yes, even many times in the
- 31:37church, to die to ourselves. A diligent disciple of Jesus
- 31:45Christ is a persistent disciple who persistently decreases that
- 31:53Christ might increase within his or her life that they might be
- 31:58able to move forward in Christ. Finally, to maintain forward
- 32:05moving faith, if you will, it requires divine patience.
- 32:10Trusting in this is the context, trusting in God's divine
- 32:15patience. This is why I say that verses 15
- 32:17and 16 of our texts read along with me Second Peter chapter 3.
- 32:23He says, and consider that the long-suffering of our Lord is
- 32:33salvation, as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the
- 32:38wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his
- 32:43epistles, speaking in them of these things in which are some
- 32:48things hard to understand. We don't know everything which
- 32:52untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction
- 32:58as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.
- 33:01Who are these unstable people? He's talking about the
- 33:04Judaizers. Judaizers were Jewish people who
- 33:07came to Christ, but they were, it came to Christ and and said,
- 33:11OK, you, you, you, we, we believe in Jesus, but you have
- 33:14to keep all the law if you really want to be saved.
- 33:18That's what the Judaizers were teaching in Paul's day.
- 33:21And some are still teaching even to this day and and Peter's day,
- 33:24and some are teaching even to this day.
- 33:26And Peter was exhorting the Saints to continue forward
- 33:31despite the attempt of Judaizers to twist the scriptures to to
- 33:37tell them that they can't move forward unless they're able to
- 33:40adhere to some legalistic system.
- 33:44But Paul wrote a whole book about this, about the grace of
- 33:47God and the law called the Book of Galatians.
- 33:51And in the book of Galatians, Paul referred to such brothers
- 33:54who taught that you had to keep the law.
- 33:58He referred to them as false brothers because Jesus fulfilled
- 34:03the law. And through faith in Him, we
- 34:06also have fulfilled the law because of what He has done, not
- 34:09what we've done, but because He fulfilled the Law for us.
- 34:13He became. He is our sacrifice, and it's
- 34:16through our faith in what He has done that has given us and
- 34:20granted us salvation. God's long-suffering brought
- 34:24about a Messiah. God's long-suffering with the
- 34:28nation of Israel down through the history of man,
- 34:31long-suffering with mankind brought about the birth of Jesus
- 34:34Christ, His, His, his, His life, His death, and yes, His
- 34:39resurrection, that we might be justified through faith in Him.
- 34:45It was God's long-suffering, not our ability to keep the law that
- 34:51has secured our salvation, His divine patience with mankind.
- 34:57Now, why is this important? Because there's some believers
- 35:00who have given up on the patience of God.
- 35:01And it sounds weird, but it's true.
- 35:05They have bought into the lie of the devil that says that God no
- 35:07longer loves you. Now you're here today.
- 35:10Praise God. I'm glad you're here.
- 35:11But there are some believers right now, I guarantee you.
- 35:14You used to come here at me, not come anymore, or you used to go
- 35:17to a church somewhere, don't go anymore because they've been
- 35:19convinced by the devil that they have blown it one too many times
- 35:23and God is done with you. That's a lie from the pit of
- 35:27hell. The Bible says if God is for
- 35:30you, who can be against you? He who did not spare his only
- 35:33his own son. Romans 8 says how much more will
- 35:35He freely give you all things? It is God who justifies.
- 35:40And if God has justified you, everybody else has to shut up.
- 35:44Amen. Amen.
- 35:46Oh, give him praise and glory for that, any man.
- 35:50Thank you, Lord, it is his long-suffering.
- 35:54Don't believe the lie of the enemy.
- 35:58This is an important point because here's the deal.
- 36:01If I believe God has given up on me, why do I need to get out of
- 36:03bed in the morning? Why do I need to take another
- 36:06breath? God has not given up on you.
- 36:10The Bible says He loves you with an everlasting love.
- 36:11And in fact, Lamentations chapter 3, verse 22 to 24 says
- 36:16this. It says that through the Lord's
- 36:18mercies we are not consumed because his compassion's fail
- 36:23not. They are new every morning.
- 36:26Great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my
- 36:29soul. Therefore hope in Him.
- 36:33The Lord is my portion. Is it your portion?
- 36:36And that word means allotment as He's at which you, you feed
- 36:39upon, you feast upon his faithfulness.
- 36:41The Bible says feed upon the faithfulness of the Lord.
- 36:44Are you feeding upon his faithfulness or you feeding upon
- 36:46your faithfulness? Psalm 73, the psalmist says my
- 36:50flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart and
- 36:54my portion forever. Your flesh is going to fail you.
- 36:57Your heart is going to let you know your heart a lie to you.
- 36:59Your flesh is going to fail your friends.
- 37:01Everything's going to fail but God.
- 37:03Amen. I'm glad there's a but God in
- 37:05Scripture. I hope you have a butt God in
- 37:09your faith, no matter what your face butt God.
- 37:12It's the strength of my my heart and my portion forever.
- 37:18That's the reason I get out of bed every morning, no matter
- 37:22what happened the day before, no matter what I may be facing.
- 37:24Butt God, here's my portion. I love my wife, but she's not my
- 37:29portion. You may love your husband.
- 37:31He's not your portion. God is your portion because He
- 37:35never fails. Amen.
- 37:36Hallelujah, bless his holy name. This is the reason why we can
- 37:44move forward because I'm trusting in the long-suffering
- 37:46of my God. I'm I'm trusting in his patience
- 37:50that His grace is sufficient for me.
- 37:52It's a great offense to God to think that He can love you when
- 37:55you're a Sinner, but now that you're a St. that He can't stand
- 37:58you. And Paul says in Romans chapter
- 38:025 verses 10 and 11. For if when we were enemies, we
- 38:07were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more,
- 38:14having been reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
- 38:19And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord
- 38:23Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the
- 38:27reconciliation. We have now received salvation.
- 38:32Here's the point. There's never a day or time or
- 38:35space or circumstances by which we cannot move forward no matter
- 38:39what's going on in our life in Christ.
- 38:42Romans chapter 8 verse 28 says all things work together for
- 38:45good to those who love God, who are called according to his
- 38:47purpose. You are God's workmanship.
- 38:51Did you know that God is a a patient Craftsman?
- 38:56He is molding and shaping as you are the clay.
- 38:59He's the Potter. We don't know what he may be
- 39:02forming, but whatever it's going to be is going to be glorious if
- 39:05we would trust him. You are his workmanship.
- 39:09I'm glad God is a patient Craftsman.
- 39:11I'm glad I'm not God. I'm not a patient Craftsman.
- 39:14There are some of you guys out here and ladies, you are, you
- 39:17are handy. You know what I mean?
- 39:20You can fix anything. Honey, the washing, you know,
- 39:23dishwasher is broken, You fix it.
- 39:25Cars broke, you fixed it. You know, we need to let an
- 39:29electrical run down this wall. You get in there and you fix it,
- 39:33take you an afternoon or whatever.
- 39:36I hate guys like that. Amen.
- 39:39Because I can't fix nothing. In fact, one of the most
- 39:43horrific vision that my wife can have of me, it's me with a tool
- 39:46belt on because I can't fix anything.
- 39:50My skills are so bad. One time I build a dog house for
- 39:53our dog. Dog wouldn't even go into the
- 39:54house. Dogs, I ain't going there.
- 39:59That's bad. I'm not handy.
- 40:03I'm not handy. But God is a skillful Craftsman.
- 40:08He's very patient. He's not in a rush.
- 40:10We are He never is Amen. He never is workmanship.
- 40:16We are his workmanship. The Greek word poema, it means
- 40:20that which has been made the works of God as Creator.
- 40:26Everything God created when he created the earth in the very
- 40:30beginning, God says it is good, and God looks at you and he says
- 40:33it is good. He's not making junk, he's
- 40:40making something unique. Don't try to be somebody else.
- 40:43God looks at you, says you're good.
- 40:46Just yield your hands to the hand of the Master and let Him
- 40:50form you and fashion you into what He has called you to be.
- 40:56He loved us while we're sinners. He loves us now that we're
- 40:58Saints. He will never stop loving us.
- 41:01David said Goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of
- 41:03my life, and I will dwell in the House of the Lord for hallow.
- 41:09Amen. That's accomplished by God, not
- 41:12by David. So it is with us.
- 41:16And then in Micah Chapter 7, excuse me, sure, this these
- 41:19verses with you, because sometimes we feel like the
- 41:21devil's have been ready to pop the the champagne and and the
- 41:25demons are rejoicing because he's knocked you down or you
- 41:27failed or or whatever you gone through a crisis or what have
- 41:30you and, and you and the devil's rejoicing because he thinks he's
- 41:33discouraged you and all of that. But I love what Micah's Chapter
- 41:367 verses 8 and 9 says. It says this.
- 41:38Do not rejoice over me, my enemy.
- 41:40When I fall, I will arise. Hallelujah.
- 41:46Why? Because God's not finished with
- 41:48me yet. When I sit in the darkness, in
- 41:51darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.
- 41:54I will bear the iniquity of the Lord because I have sinned
- 41:58against him. You know Michael saying we're,
- 41:59we're confessing, we're admitting we've sinned against
- 42:02him until he pleads my case and God has pleaded our case through
- 42:06Jesus Christ. He pleased my case and and
- 42:08executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the
- 42:13light, and I will see His righteousness.
- 42:17Whoa, isn't that good? Come on somebody.
- 42:20Amen. Thank you, Lord.
- 42:23Paul said I'm down, but I'm not out.
- 42:27And Scripture says when we fall, God catches us by His right
- 42:31hand. You know what the right hand is,
- 42:32is the hand of favor. He doesn't catch you by your
- 42:36throat to condemn you, but by his right hand He upholds you.
- 42:45And then Paul says to Timothy in Second Timothy chapter 2 verse
- 42:4813, he says, if we are faithless, this is a faithful
- 42:52saying. He said, in other words, you can
- 42:54take this to the bank. If we are faithless, He remains
- 42:57faithful for he cannot deny who he is.
- 43:02Peter denied him, but Jesus never denied Peter.
- 43:07You may have denied him, but he would never deny you if you're
- 43:12his child. If we are faithless, he remains
- 43:16faithful where he cannot deny himself.
- 43:17Why? Because of his patience,
- 43:19long-suffering for you. You and I can move forward.
- 43:24Here's the conclusion of the matter.
- 43:26Like the gentleman at the airport, the devil's selling
- 43:28what we used to call back in the day, Wolf tickets.
- 43:30Anybody ever hear that phrase for you young people, Wolf
- 43:34tickets are somebody berating you, saying bad things about
- 43:39you. The devil is just like that man
- 43:42at the airport saying you can't go forward, just stay back.
- 43:45You know, live in your past, live in your failures.
- 43:48Who do you think you are believing God for great things?
- 43:51But if you've got the promises of God, you got his permission,
- 43:53you better move forward in Jesus name.
- 43:59We've been granted permission through His word, through
- 44:01Almighty God, as has been said. Listen, thieves do not break
- 44:08into empty houses. If a thief's going to break in
- 44:13the house, you got something in there he wants.
- 44:15Thieves are not breaking empty houses.
- 44:17The devil is a thief. The Bible says he's come to
- 44:18steal, kill, and to destroy. He wants to destroy your legacy.
- 44:22He wants to destroy what God has put within you because he know
- 44:26God has put something in you and he does not want it to get out.
- 44:29So he'll use things to discourage you.
- 44:31But you can overcome him through God's divine perspective,
- 44:35through persistence in the Lord, and through the patience of our
- 44:39God. You can be an overcomer because
- 44:44everyone in here has a due season.
- 44:48I'm not just talking about one season.
- 44:49There are many due seasons in our life.
- 44:51God says, hold on, I got something for you and you
- 44:53experience that. And then God continues to say,
- 44:55hold on, I got something else for you and it gets better and
- 44:58better and better throughout your life.
- 45:00Everyone of you right now in the Lord has a due season.
- 45:04So we have this exhortation. I want to close with from
- 45:07Galatians chapter 6 verses 9 and 10.
- 45:10The apostle Paul says, and let us not grow weary while doing
- 45:14good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
- 45:22Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to
- 45:26all and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
- 45:30Amen. Your due season is coming.
- 45:34Continue to move forward that you might experience the glory
- 45:40of our godfather. We thank you so much for your
- 45:43word today. We thank you, Lord, that you
- 45:45have called us. The trajectory of our faith is
- 45:49always forward, not to backslide, but to move forward
- 45:54in Christ, because you've got things, Lord, prepared for us
