- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on everybody?
- 0:16Speaker 2: Jeff Mosher and Adam Kaplan and man, it's the end
- 0:19Speaker 2: of the week, and it is the end. This podcast
- 0:22Speaker 2: will mark the end of our NFL Free agency primer,
- 0:26Speaker 2: and we've bet a lot of shows. We've gone through
- 0:27Speaker 2: every single position and we're gonna finish it off talking
- 0:31Speaker 2: about defensive backs, both corner and safety and then Adam,
- 0:35Speaker 2: after this, we go into the weekend and then Monday night,
- 0:39Speaker 2: Monday afternoon, I should say, all the fun will begin
- 0:42Speaker 2: when the legal tampering period starts.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah, they call the open negotiating period. So basically what
- 0:49Speaker 3: it really means is agents who have players right that
- 0:52Speaker 3: represent players one team. They could find out if the
- 0:56Speaker 3: other team wants them. They could do it openly now,
- 1:00Speaker 3: but the player could not talk to the team. Although
- 1:02Speaker 3: it's a proposal for players to have limited access to
- 1:06Speaker 3: have phone calls with the team on that Monday, they
- 1:09Speaker 3: want to bring that in. It might have been the Steelers,
- 1:10Speaker 3: I can't remember put the proposal in, but bottom line is, yeah,
- 1:14Speaker 3: so and then when you get to Wednesday, when they
- 1:16Speaker 3: knew he league year opens, it's it's like there's nobody
- 1:19Speaker 3: that's been picked over the NFL. The top of the
- 1:22Speaker 3: NFL free agency is so quick. It's so quick. It's
- 1:26Speaker 3: not like base quicker too.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Right, because there's as we've been discussing throughout this series,
- 1:31Speaker 2: there's just not a lot of impact, like game changing
- 1:34Speaker 2: top name free agents. So I mean, I don't know
- 1:37Speaker 2: what that'll mean, like if some guys want to drag
- 1:39Speaker 2: it out, but I would think if you're getting a
- 1:41Speaker 2: great offer and you're taking it, because there's just like
- 1:44Speaker 2: you said, there's not that many guys.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Well, and then the other thing, there's the trading period
- 1:48Speaker 3: which has started. You know, we'll talk about that for
- 1:51Speaker 3: a minute. You're going to see a bunch of trades
- 1:54Speaker 3: up into the draft because it's not a good free
- 1:57Speaker 3: agency period and there's some we'll get in more into
- 1:59Speaker 3: the draft in a couple of weeks, but there's some
- 2:02Speaker 3: positions aren't very strong. So what you're gonna do is
- 2:04Speaker 3: you're gonna start calling teams, see players are available. Right.
- 2:07Speaker 3: McDuffie's a guy that was available that I don't know
- 2:09Speaker 3: if the Chiefs went on trade and I know you've
- 2:11Speaker 3: got some information there, but the bottom line is, uh,
- 2:16Speaker 3: if you need a position and it's not there. It's
- 2:18Speaker 3: clearly not there for free agency. The guys who are
- 2:20Speaker 3: available tickl the corner. What we're gonna get to, you're
- 2:23Speaker 3: gonna have to make a trade, and the Rams did,
- 2:26Speaker 3: and boyd it, they gave up a lot.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Oh listen, So let's first out one this.
- 2:30Speaker 2: So the Chiefs trade one of one of the guys
- 2:32Speaker 2: we've talked about quite a bit just inside the Birds
- 2:35Speaker 2: because of the uniqueness of the way he plays the position.
- 2:37Speaker 2: The Chiefs trade Trent McDuffie, who was a first round
- 2:41Speaker 2: pick for them four years ago, I guess, because this
- 2:43Speaker 2: would have been his fourth year.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Right, does that sound.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Four years ago?
- 2:48Speaker 1: And this would have been his fifth year.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yeah, they traded them to the Rams, and amazingly, the
- 2:53Speaker 2: Rams gave up a lot, and yet I feel like
- 2:55Speaker 2: both teams still both win. I mean, it's great trade.
- 2:58Speaker 2: The Rams give up a first round pick, they give
- 3:00Speaker 2: up what two other picks I think.
- 3:03Speaker 3: And they actually gave up four.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Four picks, four picks total. Right, that sounds like a lot.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It is a lot.
- 3:08Speaker 2: But however, the Rams had an extra first round pick
- 3:12Speaker 2: that they got from the Falcons last year, So the
- 3:14Speaker 2: Rams still get to make a first round pick, and
- 3:17Speaker 2: they address the most glaring issue on their team and
- 3:21Speaker 2: their defense and what really held them back at times
- 3:23Speaker 2: last year, which is having a stud cornerback. So now
- 3:26Speaker 2: they bring in a stud cornerback, I should say most
- 3:29Speaker 2: glaring issue outside of having a competent special teams coordinator,
- 3:32Speaker 2: but after that, from a personnel standpoint, it's corner So
- 3:35Speaker 2: the rich get richer in both cases. Then Adam the
- 3:38Speaker 2: Chiefs will get an additional first round pick. And so
- 3:43Speaker 2: for all I understand, all I know is about this
- 3:44Speaker 2: is that the Chiefs were not like trying to get
- 3:46Speaker 2: just like Howie Roseman says with AJ Brown, They're.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Not giving giving a player away.
- 3:50Speaker 2: They were only going to take a first round pick
- 3:52Speaker 2: because this is a guy who was up on an
- 3:54Speaker 2: extension and he was going to make a lot of money.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So here's how it impacts the Eagles.
- 3:58Speaker 2: At him, right, McDuffie is a guy who plays nickel
- 4:02Speaker 2: really well, plays outside well enough to be a starter
- 4:05Speaker 2: in this league. But because he can do both, he
- 4:08Speaker 2: can blitz. I mean, he fits certain defenses really well
- 4:11Speaker 2: and has been a two time All Pro player. So
- 4:14Speaker 2: the Eagles have a very similar player in Cooper dejen
- 4:17Speaker 2: and by this time next year he's going to be
- 4:19Speaker 2: eligible for an extension. So we got our eyes on
- 4:23Speaker 2: what Trent McDuffie is going to make here when he
- 4:25Speaker 2: signs this extension with the Rams. Who you don't make
- 4:28Speaker 2: that trade unless you're giving an extension.
- 4:29Speaker 3: A couple of fens here, right, you've got to know
- 4:32Speaker 3: when you're doing that contract. Okay, if you're the Eagles,
- 4:35Speaker 3: you'll have this access and so will the agent. Okay,
- 4:38Speaker 3: how many how many snaps he he played nickel, which
- 4:40Speaker 3: is generally an inside position? How many steps they have
- 4:42Speaker 3: a corner which is ant side position, like when you're
- 4:45Speaker 3: doing that contract and the Rams, by the way, it
- 4:49Speaker 3: is seen around the league as a massive overpay. He's
- 4:52Speaker 3: a McDuffie's a very He's a really good player, no doubt.
- 4:55Speaker 3: But he's also smaller. Yeah, Jeane's bigger physically, a better athlete.
- 5:00Speaker 3: But mcdue's a proven player, no doubt. He's a really
- 5:02Speaker 3: good player, very high character. I remember you you noted
- 5:06Speaker 3: uh that draft Eagles loved him, right? Like that was
- 5:10Speaker 3: really it was?
- 5:12Speaker 1: Is that the draft they took Jordan Davis.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I'd have to look.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I think it's the draft.
- 5:17Speaker 2: They took Jordan Davis and they moved up for him,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and I was told at the time, if they weren't
- 5:23Speaker 2: you could, yeah just check that while I'm talking here.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I just know that they really liked him. He was
- 5:27Speaker 2: sort of next on their board. And if they weren't
- 5:30Speaker 2: able to get the guy who they got, which I
- 5:32Speaker 2: think it was Jordan Davis, and I think they had
- 5:34Speaker 2: to move up.
- 5:35Speaker 1: One or two spots, then McDuffie would have been the guy.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Yeah that he was selected in the first round of
- 5:44Speaker 3: the twenty two draft. Yeah, Jordan Davis was selected in
- 5:46Speaker 3: twenty two, so that would make that's what it was, Okay, Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 3: I mean he he's got the short arms. He's not
- 5:52Speaker 3: like five to eight. But what it is is he's
- 5:55Speaker 3: got the short arms. But I remember we had the
- 5:57Speaker 3: note that uh Gannon didn't really care about the arm length.
- 6:03Speaker 3: It was not a big deal for him, you know,
- 6:06Speaker 3: because that for that position, if you're gonna play corner,
- 6:09Speaker 3: you don't you don't want to have I'd have to
- 6:10Speaker 3: look it up what the exact measurement was. I know
- 6:12Speaker 3: it was not. He didn't have very long arms, right.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Right, So we listen the top guys, right, now in
- 6:20Speaker 2: the in the NFL, they get paid between twenty four
- 6:22Speaker 2: and thirty million dollars. You're talking about Gardner Stingley, Certain right,
- 6:27Speaker 2: I look at I totally agree with both what you've
- 6:30Speaker 2: heard and what we've talked about is that McDuffie is a.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Very good corner.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But he's not someone like Stingley that you just put
- 6:37Speaker 2: on on an island against anybody and expect to win
- 6:39Speaker 2: or certain right he's he's shorter, he can give up
- 6:42Speaker 2: yards down the field to those taller physical kind of guys.
- 6:45Speaker 2: He to me, is more like what Marlon Humphrey is
- 6:48Speaker 2: to the Ravens. A guy who plays inside, the guy
- 6:50Speaker 2: who can play outside. He's made Pro Bowls and Humphrey's
- 6:53Speaker 2: around twenty million dollars a year. And no, I don't
- 6:55Speaker 2: know when the last time he signed a contract was,
- 6:57Speaker 2: so maybe he's up on too. But if they if
- 7:00Speaker 2: the Rams turn around and give McDuffie twenty eight to
- 7:05Speaker 2: thirty million dollars, wow, that would a be pretty incredible
- 7:09Speaker 2: by McDuffie and his agent, and b kind of puts
- 7:12Speaker 2: the Eagles right next year in a bind because they
- 7:15Speaker 2: already have they're gonna have to pay Hunt, gotta be Carter,
- 7:17Speaker 2: gotta be Davis, gotta be Quentin and Mitchell and Cooper
- 7:20Speaker 2: to gen will have every right, especially if he has
- 7:22Speaker 2: another Pro Bowl or All Pro season, to say, well,
- 7:25Speaker 2: I deserve as much as that guy.
- 7:26Speaker 1: McDuffie.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Yep. Marlon Humphreys son a five year extension in October
- 7:31Speaker 3: twenty twenty for nineteen point five million a season. That
- 7:34Speaker 3: that deal is obviously outdated, it was a really good deal.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Then sure he turns Humphrey turns thirty in July. Gosh,
- 7:42Speaker 3: I remember his dad, Bobby Humphrey running back for the Broncos. Yes,
- 7:45Speaker 3: but Trent McDuffie. See, here's the thing. The Rams are
- 7:51Speaker 3: what we call an overpay team, not only sometimes in trades,
- 7:55Speaker 3: but in terms of they pay really well. Like agents
- 7:58Speaker 3: love them because they pay really Yes, yeah, they just
- 8:02Speaker 3: do you know. They they trade first round picks, you know,
- 8:07Speaker 3: not out of their last ten years something like that. Yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 3: but yeah, I know it's less. But but but they
- 8:15Speaker 3: draft really well, they're Lessned's one of the best drafting
- 8:17Speaker 3: gms in the National Football Like, he's a top five drafter,
- 8:20Speaker 3: really really good at one one more note they were
- 8:24Speaker 3: they got there another team that got away with it
- 8:26Speaker 3: at corner. Emmanuel Forbes definitely revived his career, which he
- 8:30Speaker 3: never had really one. Though he's a first round pick.
- 8:32Speaker 3: He was awful for Washington. Did a nice job, Yeoman's job,
- 8:35Speaker 3: did a nice job. But they they got They saw
- 8:38Speaker 3: what happened to them against the Seattle and two out
- 8:40Speaker 3: of the three games they got handled pretty badly at
- 8:43Speaker 3: corner and less Sneed gets so funny less Sneed Before
- 8:46Speaker 3: the trade, it did a media availability. I'm gonna say
- 8:50Speaker 3: maybe Monday or Tuesday. He said, Oh, they were what's
- 8:56Speaker 3: freeency looked like we're really looking hard at the cornerback position.
- 8:59Speaker 3: We're really are looking to do something. Yeah, on the
- 9:01Speaker 3: quote in front of it album just paraphrasing, and why
- 9:05Speaker 3: did they do something? So? Look they needed it. Uh
- 9:09Speaker 3: you know they made a trade for Roger McCrary, who's
- 9:11Speaker 3: a free agent by the ways, a nickel. Uh So, yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 3: they're less as a trading full man. And look, you
- 9:18Speaker 3: can't argue with success. Guy's really good, you know, wan
- 9:22Speaker 3: a super Bowl's a GM. Yeah, so see what happens.
- 9:26Speaker 2: They got one more year of Stafford, They're gonna clearly
- 9:28Speaker 2: go for it all next year, and they'll be good.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Going into next year. They got three guys in the
- 9:32Speaker 1: secondary now who can play all around.
- 9:34Speaker 2: You mentioned McCreary obviously, McDuffie now and Quinton Lake, who
- 9:38Speaker 2: plays all around for them too, So Chris Hulo can
- 9:40Speaker 2: do some interesting sub package stuff.
- 9:42Speaker 1: You know, what do you want to call it?
- 9:43Speaker 2: Big Nickel or McCreary's up, right, McCreary's up, and actually
- 9:48Speaker 2: Hesy's up.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Yeah, Quinton Lake, Quentin Lake's interesting. I his dad Carnell Lake,
- 9:54Speaker 3: former Steeler safety. Yeah, I didn't know this. He he uh,
- 9:57Speaker 3: I forget where he went to school. Might have be
- 9:59Speaker 3: UCLA without look it up. He uh, he actually went
- 10:03Speaker 3: to He had never he had not played safety before
- 10:06Speaker 3: and maybe late in his career college and then clearly
- 10:10Speaker 3: with the Rams. He's sort of a hybrid player. He
- 10:14Speaker 3: dissipated his elbow, how the surgery came back. Really good
- 10:17Speaker 3: football player. Yeah, camp Curl by the way is up.
- 10:19Speaker 3: You know, his contracts up as a safety. So they
- 10:23Speaker 3: they're good. I yeah, I mean they are going for it,
- 10:25Speaker 3: but I mean McDuffie's gonna be there for a long
- 10:28Speaker 3: time obviously.
- 10:30Speaker 1: All right, and the Rams they should be good again
- 10:32Speaker 1: next year.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Let's get into then the discussion the overall look outlook
- 10:36Speaker 2: of cornerback in free agency. This is an area where
- 10:41Speaker 2: the Eagles were not obviously aggressive. Last year. We talked
- 10:44Speaker 2: about their their lower cash spend. I imagine that'll be
- 10:49Speaker 2: similar this year. And we'll have to see what happens
- 10:52Speaker 2: with a Dori Jackson. I mean, they could bring him back,
- 10:54Speaker 2: or they could just find their twenty and twenty six
- 10:58Speaker 2: version of Adri Jackson. Among them, many names that we
- 11:01Speaker 2: have listed here of guys will be free agents.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Honestly, if you go through this list, Alonte Taylor is
- 11:06Speaker 3: gonna get paid if he leaves New Orleans. He's a player,
- 11:08Speaker 3: he could play nickel, he could play corner. He started
- 11:10Speaker 3: his career off as a corner, then he moved to nickel.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Really good player, Jamal Dean, He's got ideal length. He
- 11:17Speaker 3: just has been hurt too much. Dreq Willan, he look,
- 11:23Speaker 3: he was very available to trade deadline. They went up
- 11:25Speaker 3: not trading this. They had no depth at corner right.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Greg Knews from a good player, could play corner, he
- 11:30Speaker 3: could play nickel, came over from that odd trade the
- 11:32Speaker 3: corner for corner trade Jaguars and the Browns. He just
- 11:36Speaker 3: finished out his fifth year option. He was a first
- 11:38Speaker 3: rounder with the Browns. Josh Jobu more of a nickel
- 11:44Speaker 3: well because they they play three corners a lot. An
- 11:47Speaker 3: incredible story development, what a good for him. He's gonna
- 11:50Speaker 3: get paid. This is a great story. Hm.
- 11:53Speaker 2: He Well, he's nickel outside though, right, because they would
- 11:57Speaker 2: move Witherspoon inside and then play him.
- 12:00Speaker 3: And yeah, but although he could play, he could play
- 12:02Speaker 3: inside too. But yes, yes, yes, with a spoon moves
- 12:05Speaker 3: inside and nickel, he's I'll be interesting to see what happens. Like.
- 12:12Speaker 3: His numbers for the regular season are fantastic times throwing
- 12:16Speaker 3: against in yardage, but they were a little bit of
- 12:19Speaker 3: an issue in the playoffs. He's gonna get paid. He's
- 12:21Speaker 3: gonna make some money. Good for him. It's an unbelievable story.
- 12:24Speaker 3: He was no better than a fifth corner for the
- 12:25Speaker 3: Eagles and really only play on specials. Yep. Eric Stokes
- 12:29Speaker 3: a former Packers first rounder who's a corner. Decent, decent stuff,
- 12:33Speaker 3: decent job with a Raiders. He's okay on Tarrek Buster
- 12:37Speaker 3: Brown for the Jaguars. I give this guy credit. Was
- 12:38Speaker 3: the seventh rounder. He really improved Jalen Watson. See he's
- 12:44Speaker 3: been a good story of development for the Chiefs. As
- 12:46Speaker 3: a seventh rounder, they are barren. They don't have a
- 12:48Speaker 3: starting quality corner right now. The Chiefs. So they got
- 12:51Speaker 3: two first round picks, ninth and I think twenty ninth,
- 12:56Speaker 3: I think twenty eighth. They got a lot of work
- 12:59Speaker 3: to do. They need corners, they eate edge rushers, they
- 13:01Speaker 3: need to tackles, they need a running back, they need receivers.
- 13:04Speaker 3: The Chiefs are a team that's in transition. They're in
- 13:06Speaker 3: a rebuild. They were an absolute rebuild.
- 13:10Speaker 2: In fact, I would be shocked if they were very
- 13:12Speaker 2: aggressive this year in free agency. They know they need picks,
- 13:14Speaker 2: and they know they need young players and the rebuild
- 13:17Speaker 2: through the draft, and they are.
- 13:18Speaker 3: A low cash ben team. They don't They're not a
- 13:20Speaker 3: big cash bend team historically. They're just not. Other than
- 13:23Speaker 3: Chris Jones is making it I think like thirty five million, yeah,
- 13:26Speaker 3: and of course Mahomes though he's given them discounts over
- 13:29Speaker 3: the years. That's they're just not they you know, they
- 13:32Speaker 3: catch one Taylor that never worked out. Yep, you know,
- 13:35Speaker 3: they they they're they're going through the cap issue that
- 13:38Speaker 3: that Breadfeatchs made it pretty clear. They've got a lot
- 13:39Speaker 3: of convertible contracts. It won't be very difficult. Yeah, but yeah,
- 13:43Speaker 3: they're they're in transition. Man. The the Broncos are the
- 13:45Speaker 3: class of that division, and then the Chargers.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Probably Chargers are coming up too. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Now that being said, you know once with Mahomes coming
- 13:55Speaker 2: back healthy next year, you never put anything past them.
- 13:57Speaker 1: If they won eleven games, I would not be surprised.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Well, we'll see how healthy he is coming off eight
- 14:02Speaker 3: nine months. That's that's to be tough.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I love that on this list that we you've got compiled,
- 14:08Speaker 2: it says Darius Slay slash buff That's great because technically
- 14:14Speaker 2: he was his last employer technically was the Buffalo Bills
- 14:19Speaker 2: who claimed him off waivers.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Right, that's what Yeah.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Well, and their GM Brandon Bean said, had they known
- 14:26Speaker 3: he wouldn't report, they would have claimed him. Is technically
- 14:29Speaker 3: you're not allowed to talk to the agent. The agent
- 14:33Speaker 3: called the agent, but you're not. You're right, absolutely right,
- 14:37Speaker 3: but you're not supposed to. Technically he was Pittsburgh's property, yep,
- 14:43Speaker 3: until he passes to ramage to him, of course they
- 14:46Speaker 3: should do that. But the Bills man. And you know,
- 14:50Speaker 3: they they they made the big DJ More trade. They
- 14:53Speaker 3: they they gave a fair value. DJ Moore's last two seasons.
- 14:57Speaker 3: We're not great. He didn't break one thousand yards either year.
- 15:00Speaker 3: Obviously because Kayleb Williams is a young quarterback, that that
- 15:05Speaker 3: changes the dynamic. But in a way it's good for
- 15:07Speaker 3: the Eagles because they didn't get a J. Brown. And
- 15:12Speaker 3: we know, I'm telling you the Patriots love a J. Brown.
- 15:15Speaker 3: In fact, I remember we noted it two or three
- 15:17Speaker 3: years ago, well before Vrabel got there, they called the Eagles,
- 15:21Speaker 3: you're interested. So they're running out of opportunities. They're not like,
- 15:25Speaker 3: we'll see who else is available out there at receiver.
- 15:28Speaker 3: But it well, the thing is, I see why they
- 15:31Speaker 3: made the trade. Good luck trying to get someone off
- 15:33Speaker 3: the street. There's just no one there.
- 15:35Speaker 1: You got the trade, yep, there really isn't.
- 15:39Speaker 2: And then there's a lot of guys, you know, the
- 15:41Speaker 2: Ben Saint Juice, Cam Taylor Bride. I feel like there
- 15:43Speaker 2: are a lot of guys on this list who either
- 15:47Speaker 2: had a flash in the PA, had had a good year,
- 15:51Speaker 2: good start, has fallen off. Can maybe you know, like
- 15:54Speaker 2: the trenevious White. I mean he's always he was always hurt,
- 15:56Speaker 2: but he used to be really good. Rasul Douglas, remember
- 15:58Speaker 2: he kind of had that bounce back with the Packers
- 16:00Speaker 2: where he started.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Some games for them.
- 16:03Speaker 2: He fits a certain scheme, you know. Dori Jackson, you
- 16:06Speaker 2: could say had a bounce back. He played better last
- 16:07Speaker 2: year than he had played for the Giants. There's no
- 16:10Speaker 2: doubt about that. Trayvon Diggs is an interesting one. Where
- 16:13Speaker 2: does he wind up with all he was caught?
- 16:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it's talk about a guy stars fawn significantly. He's
- 16:20Speaker 3: a he's what we call compete guy. M hm. You
- 16:23Speaker 3: bring him in, you see what he can do. I
- 16:25Speaker 3: know he said he was healthy when he was with
- 16:27Speaker 3: Green Bay, but they traded for him just they knew
- 16:30Speaker 3: his his contract, His contract was enormous coming over from Dallas,
- 16:36Speaker 3: but they just yeah, it just it. This list is
- 16:41Speaker 3: so weak for Corner. I'm looking at it and I'm like, Wow,
- 16:47Speaker 3: a lot of good Nichols, but man Corners.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right, yeah, right right, it's bad.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Hey, I know a lot of you out there are

- 19:01Speaker 1: A like just to give you an example, right of
- 19:04Speaker 1: how even the league can catch on to whether or
- 19:08Speaker 1: not something's real or not. We always we have.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Said this constantly on this show, like in primers, where
- 19:13Speaker 2: don't just judge a safety by interceptions. You know the
- 19:16Speaker 2: Eagles will trade for like Bayered, right, he had all
- 19:18Speaker 2: those interceptions the year before and it's like you could
- 19:20Speaker 2: be right place, right time. But you know Nashan Right
- 19:23Speaker 2: from the Bears, who I like. I like his makeup.
- 19:27Speaker 2: He's six foot four.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I liked him.
- 19:28Speaker 1: When he was with Dallas.
- 19:29Speaker 3: He never really they never gave him a chance. He
- 19:31Speaker 3: had a good year.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Man, he had five interceptions for one hundred and eighteen
- 19:35Speaker 1: return yards.
- 19:36Speaker 3: I remember when we were proving that game. He was like,
- 19:40Speaker 3: we were like, I just remember Greg said it too,
- 19:42Speaker 3: because he knew better than us. Right became a player. Yeah, Dallas,
- 19:48Speaker 3: he couldn't get on the field, and it's it is
- 19:50Speaker 3: odd six ft four I think Richard shervs. Year six
- 19:53Speaker 3: three or six four. Yeah, but typically you know, teams
- 19:56Speaker 3: don't like it because throttle down, it's right, thrown down,
- 20:00Speaker 3: flipping hips, it's harder, you know, it's harder. Sometimes the
- 20:03Speaker 3: pleasure high hepted that at that size. But and I
- 20:06Speaker 3: remember when the Packers claimed Trayvon Diggs's contract, I'm like, Okay,
- 20:10Speaker 3: let's see what happens. There's no way he's coming back.
- 20:13Speaker 3: But he had enormous salary for twenty six and then
- 20:16Speaker 3: they knew that they were going to have to cut him.
- 20:18Speaker 3: But that's what that's what you do sometimes at corner.
- 20:20Speaker 3: It's big time. Corner has really become available. This is
- 20:23Speaker 3: why I'm bringing this up. There's every You look at
- 20:27Speaker 3: Jamel Dean, too many injuries, tweak one and he's he's
- 20:30Speaker 3: regressed a little bit. Greg Newsom, is he a Nicchol?
- 20:34Speaker 3: Is he a corner? Cleveland drafted him, they traded him.
- 20:37Speaker 3: You know, you don't like to see that. I'm looking
- 20:39Speaker 3: at this. It's Kobe Durant an okay corner, good story development.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Ben Saint Jeuwis was once an up and coming corner
- 20:45Speaker 3: for Washington. They weren't interest to bring him back. Kim
- 20:48Speaker 3: Taylor Britt was decent early in his career, not good enough.
- 20:52Speaker 3: A lot of journeymen, a lot of Nichols, Roger mccreer
- 20:54Speaker 3: I mentioned, and Meek Robertson really did a good job
- 20:56Speaker 3: for for the Lions reviving his career. He met Dory
- 20:59Speaker 3: Jackson is like a fourth corner now yep. And Jack Jones,
- 21:02Speaker 3: a former player for the Patriots and Raiders now with Miami,
- 21:06Speaker 3: played a lot last season. It's it's a weak list, man,
- 21:10Speaker 3: it really is.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I mean, if i'm you know, if you're the Eagles.
- 21:13Speaker 1: You're looking to play Dori.
- 21:14Speaker 2: You're trying to bring in someone on one year, much
- 21:17Speaker 2: like a Dory who you think that maybe with good
- 21:20Speaker 2: environment and good coaching around you can get something better
- 21:23Speaker 2: from Maybe Cam Taylor Britt is that guy, because you
- 21:25Speaker 2: know he's played at a pretty high level in the past.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Now it's been a while, but again you're you're bargain
- 21:31Speaker 2: shopping here.
- 21:32Speaker 1: You're giving question that's.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Going to be his football speed. It's I don't know
- 21:36Speaker 3: what it's time speed is. I just know I from
- 21:38Speaker 3: what we've been told, it's he's just not fast enough,
- 21:41Speaker 3: not explosive. Now again, there's a reason why this is
- 21:44Speaker 3: actually a talented player. Yeah, we'll see what the Bengals do.
- 21:47Speaker 3: So I go through this list and and I mean
- 21:50Speaker 3: Jalen Watson that the Chiefs have to look at. He
- 21:52Speaker 3: really did a nice job last season the Chiefs.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I was just about to say, he jumps out, yeah,
- 21:56Speaker 2: like maybe he can get some value there.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Yeah. And as far as the Jory Jackson the Eagles,
- 22:00Speaker 3: all he is at this point of thirty years old
- 22:02Speaker 3: is a compete player. What does that mean? Wherever he
- 22:05Speaker 3: goes here? It's Eagles for a one year or somewhere else.
- 22:07Speaker 3: For one year. He competes for a role. That's it, right,
- 22:09Speaker 3: It's not a starting corner, right. Yeah, to this day,
- 22:13Speaker 3: I cannot believe that teams didn't go after him like
- 22:15Speaker 3: we thought they would earlier. Boy, that Dallas cooked him
- 22:18Speaker 3: week one. Then we would do the inside the tip
- 22:21Speaker 3: sture with Cosell and Greg goes, you know, I watched
- 22:24Speaker 3: his tape and like, why aren't teams throwing against him?
- 22:27Speaker 3: He just couldn't. He was dumbfound He goes, I don't
- 22:28Speaker 3: get this. I got I don't know.
- 22:31Speaker 1: It was odd.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Now we would watch tape and Greg would really inform
- 22:35Speaker 2: us that there were a lot of times as the
- 22:38Speaker 2: season went on that Vic got so comfortable, even with
- 22:42Speaker 2: a too high structure, of rolling that second safety over
- 22:45Speaker 2: to a Dori side as well and basically leaving Quinnon
- 22:49Speaker 2: Mitchell in zero.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Coverage with no safety help. So a Doriri was getting
- 22:54Speaker 1: protected a lot.
- 22:54Speaker 2: You can understand quarterback seas one safety there another rolling
- 22:58Speaker 2: over his own coverage.
- 23:00Speaker 1: But so that's the benefit that a Dory had.
- 23:04Speaker 2: By playing in the secondary, that is playing in so
- 23:08Speaker 2: I don't know that he would be as successful avoiding
- 23:11Speaker 2: people targeting him on a different team.
- 23:13Speaker 3: So to Summer's up before we move on to Safety. Yeah,
- 23:15Speaker 3: it's real simple. If you if you need a corner,
- 23:19Speaker 3: good luck to you. You're you're better off of the
- 23:20Speaker 3: trade market, and it's always a challenge to get a
- 23:23Speaker 3: good corner in a trade. But you saw what the
- 23:27Speaker 3: Rams paid. They paid a massive price. Yeah, you're better
- 23:30Speaker 3: off looking to the draft.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Stoke A. Stokes
- 23:35Speaker 1: started all last year for he did for the writer's career.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's such a thin class of good corners,
- 23:41Speaker 2: he may actually get.
- 23:42Speaker 1: A couple of years ago, Decent.
- 23:44Speaker 3: Decent Hate a significant nee injury early in its kurth
- 23:46Speaker 3: Green Bay Brainders took a chance. He's not bad, but
- 23:51Speaker 3: overall that's it for corner Man. Nothing else.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Dad, All right, well, you know what we got.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Safety is left to finish this thing out, and that'll
- 23:57Speaker 2: come out the next day Saturday. Maybe we'll talk about
- 24:01Speaker 2: a few more game changers here at Safety than we
- 24:03Speaker 2: did at Corner. We'll have to go through and everybody
- 24:05Speaker 2: will have to listen to find out that's gonna do it.
