- 5:08May know him. He goes by the name of War Criminals seven and uh
- 5:14uh you know, I just I just wish him the best of luck and
- 5:18what he's got going on over there, and that he's safe over there with
- 5:25with all the people that are you know, from what I understand, there's
- 5:30a lot of people over there. Well, I'm glad I got to you
- 5:32first. Thank you, I got your first. I did. Okay,
- 5:39Well, we have such a great show tonight. We're gonna be talking about
- 5:43some cryptos that I've never talked about publicly before, including one that I had
- 5:46an encounter with. Maybe I'm gonna say, maybe I got chased by something
- 5:53and we went to go see the pig Man that night, Okay, and
- 5:57something did chase me out of the woods. Now I'm gonna wait until that's
- 6:00story, until when we pull Jeff up tonight. But yeah, okay,
- 6:04Well let me go in and pull up Jeff. Okay, because let me
- 6:09give you a little bio, a little background on him. Growing up in
- 6:12rural New England, Jeff had his first fear or he had his fair share
- 6:15of bizarre settings and encounters with a strange and unexplained the topic of cryptozoology,
- 6:19UFOs and aliens, the paranormal world, mysteries conspiracies have continued to be an
- 6:26interest of his for as long as he can remember. Strangeology was created to
- 6:30share knowledge of these subjects and to research and find out new information and truth
- 6:33behind them, and it's also to find humor and levity as well, because
- 6:38who doesn't love a good bigfoot meme? Man, he does so much more
- 6:41than bigfoot memes on his channel, Please help me. Welcome to the show,
- 6:45Jeff from Strange Ology Podcasts. Hey, thanks for having me on.
- 6:50Of course, thank you for being here. Yeah, yeah, stoke to
- 6:55be here tonight. Oh totally Okay, Well, I was telling you before
- 6:59we went live. I love your channel and I love your all your posts.
- 7:03It's very creative, but you cover some of the most even some of
- 7:06the most obscure cryptos all over and a lot of them have to do with
- 7:12local legends and lore. Right, Yes, yes, there's so much out
- 7:18there, and it just kind of goes back to my interest in the strange
- 7:26and unexplained, the whole fourteen world since I was a kid, always gravitating
- 7:30towards books on Bigfoot and the Lockedest Monster and UFOs and watching all these TV
- 7:38shows and specials in the nineties. And yeah, it's kind of brought me
- 7:43to where where I am today for sure. Oh yeah, me too.
- 7:47Yeah, I love I love fellow cryptid enthusiasts, Okay, I do,
- 7:51And I had a whole lot of compliments on that sweater that I wore at
- 7:56Christmas. So everyone who is watching who asked me about my happy howlar Day
- 8:01sweater that came from Jeff's website, y'all his Etsy shop. He's got all
- 8:05the cryptid year in merch over there in your Etsy store. I guess it's
- 8:09strange Ology on Etsy, right, Yep, that's that's the one. Yeah.
- 8:13I have a background in graphic design, so I kind of when I
- 8:18started Strangeology, I figured I needed some kind of merch to go along with
- 8:24it, and so that's that whole branch of the thing that I do.
- 8:28So I have a home state cryptids collection, which is like all the popular
- 8:35cryptids in each state in America. I even have a few Canadian ones that
- 8:39I started working on, but I still need to finish, and all sorts
- 8:43about the cryptid encounter tise and that kind of thing. Lots of Mothman stuff
- 8:46too, and you know what that means. That means there's something there for
- 8:52everyone that's right there is now. So I guess, okay, have Cryptoville
- 9:00on here tonight. Because Cryptoville mark has had a lot of interesting encounters,
- 9:05okay, from everything from dog Man to I mean, we don't even know
- 9:09all of the encounters that you've had, Mark, Okay, because I've really
- 9:11just talked to you mostly about your dog man encounters. I've had all kinds
- 9:18you name it. I've experienced it pretty much. You know, I haven't.
- 9:22I have never encountered a pig man, but you know, if it's
- 9:28paranormal UFO related, and I'm sorry, I'm not uh, I'm not a
- 9:35member of the UAP crew. I still call them UFOSA. You know.
- 9:43I've encountered some some cryptids. I've encountered some things that I don't know what
- 9:48they are that just don't fit any classification for anything that we've ever that we've
- 9:56ever ran into. So yeah, I've had I've had more than my fair
- 10:03share, and I'm willing willing to donate those experiences to anybody that wants them.
- 10:13Oh yeah, yeah, you have some great experiences, absolutely. Like
- 10:20I've really enjoyed talking with you about the ones that you've talked with me about
- 10:24so far. But let's talk about some Vermont cryptids tonight. Okay, what
- 10:30is going on with the New England States, Jess, Like, I can't
- 10:33believe the number of interesting cryptids even like Windigos and the White Walkers and skin
- 10:39Walkers. I mean, you guys have some interesting things that you see like
- 10:43on the Game of Thrones. Yeah. Well, New England is very old.
- 10:48There's a lot of strange old stuff, a lot of really interesting history
- 10:54that goes along with it. New England can change the Green Mountains, which
- 11:01is an offshoot of the Appalachian Mountains. If people didn't know that that the
- 11:07that range goes from northern Georgia all the way to the edge of Canada,
- 11:13like Newfoundland, and even before then, you know, you've got the Scottish
- 11:18Highlands. Uh, and even the mountains in Norway and Sweden are part of
- 11:24that mountain chain from way back in like Pangaea even before then. So there's
- 11:31a lot of really old, interesting stuff. And each state in New England
- 11:39has something going on. You've got the Specter Moose in Maine. You've got
- 11:43the Woods Doubles in Koos County of Northern New Hampshire, which I'm not not
- 11:50too far stones throw away from there. You've got the Dover Demon and Puck
- 11:54Wedge's in Massachusetts. There's the the the Great New England Vampire Panic of the
- 12:01eighteen hundreds, which involved Mercy Brown, which gets lumped into a lot of
- 12:07cryptid stuff, but it's not a cryptid thing. And there's the melon Heads
- 12:11of Connecticut. And then Vermont, where I'm from, has a lot of
- 12:16stuff. There's Champ, of course, which New York also shares Champ with.
- 12:22I should mention that because any convention I'm at and I have my Vermont
- 12:26Champ shirt out for sale and people are like, no, that's a New
- 12:31York cryptid, I'm like, we can share it. Plus, Burlington,
- 12:35Vermont has a Champ exhibit and the infamous Sandra Mancy photo was taken on the
- 12:41Vermont side of Lake Champlain. And then there's all sorts of other stuff.
- 12:46There's bigfoot sightings, there's Bennington Triangle. You can also talk about the Bridgewater
- 12:52Triangle in Massachusetts. There's just so much. It's a little bit overwhelming at
- 12:58times, but you know, there's so much to talk about. If anyone's
- 13:03familiar. The book Behind Me Weird New England by Joseph cicro He chronicled a
- 13:09lot of this, a lot of this high strangeness, weird stories, weird
- 13:11history, cryptids and creatures and all that. So definitely check that out.
- 13:18If you don't have that in your personal collection of books. Oh yeah,
- 13:22I came across that when I was doing some research on the Vermont cryptids of
- 13:26there, and you mentioned the Appalachian Mountains. And I feel like I've been
- 13:30doing a lot of my focus of some of my shows on things that are
- 13:33in the Appalachian Mountains because I do my field research in the Appalachian Mountains here.
- 13:37I'm in North Georgia, and so we have a pretty dense population of
- 13:43bigfoots in the mountains here, and actually I believe the mountains kind of go
- 13:48into Alabama a little bit too, and so you know, I mean,
- 13:52we do most of our research all over the South, okay, but my
- 13:54main focus recently has mostly been in Georgia where I live. But I mean,
- 14:00we're getting reports of velociraptors in the mountains, like modern day dinosaurs and
- 14:05stuff. I mean, do you get do you have reports of those around
- 14:09there? Have you heard of any stories? You know, I'm not I'm
- 14:15not familiar with with living dinosaur sightings in Vermont at least I can't say that
- 14:22I've heard that, but we certainly have a lot of other things. Yeah,
- 14:28Well, you guys have had something that looks kind of like a terroosaur.
- 14:31When I was looking at the map of cryptids, they're looks like there
- 14:35could be terroosaurs or thunderbirds. And you know the line, the lines a
- 14:39little glory between terroosaurs and thunderbirds too, in my opinion. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:43yeah, so there there have been sightings of what people might refer to
- 14:52as thunderbirds. I know people personally who have seen extremely large birds that don't
- 15:00fit the hawk or the eagle or the peregrine falcon that live in this area.
- 15:09Very large birds that are maybe four or five feet tall when they're on
- 15:13the ground, standing with like a fifteen foot wingspan. Not normal for this
- 15:18part of the world, to say the least, you know, condor maybe
- 15:24that big. But they don't live they don't live around here. They're probably
- 15:28not shooting lightning bolts through their eyes. I'm just kidding. No. Oh
- 15:33man, Well, okay, so well, my favorite cryptid that I would
- 15:37really like to talk to you about tonight is the pig Man in Vermont,
- 15:41and I'd like for you to tell us about the pig Man there, and
- 15:46then I will mention a little bit about my personal story with pig Man,
- 15:50because it's not there's not just one pig man. It seems like there's a
- 15:54legend of pig man all over the country, not just Vermont, not just
- 15:58Georgia. There's a lot of them. And the story some of the stories
- 16:00if you research and they sound eerily similar, yes they do. So the
- 16:08story of the Northfield pig Man, it's a story that you know, I
- 16:12wasn't actually familiar with until about I want to say, about fifteen years ago,
- 16:17where people started blogging about this old legend in the town of Northfield,
- 16:22which is in central Vermont, kind of in the capital region. It's the
- 16:26next town south from Montpelier, the state capitol. And so the story goes
- 16:33is that there is this humanoid pig man type creature that lurks in the forests
- 16:42around the town of Northfield, specifically around this road, an area called the
- 16:48Devil's Washbowl. Kind of sets the tone of the whole thing, right,
- 16:53And so there were theories that maybe people were seeing this thing. They thought
- 16:59it was maybe a deranged local butcher that decided to go off grid and live
- 17:06off the land and scare people and maybe steal a couple livestock or two and
- 17:14just be a general menace. But the main story that people often cite as
- 17:22the legend is that there was this seventeen year old teenager back in nineteen fifty
- 17:29one named Sam Harris, and he was a bit of a troublemaker and around
- 17:36Halloween the night before actually they called it picket Night or cabbage Night is another
- 17:41alternative night of mischief, where he loaded up a bag of you know,
- 17:47eggs, you name it to just kind of raise hell around town and he
- 17:52went missing. He didn't return home, and his parents got the police involved.
- 18:00There was a big search, hundreds of people searching for this kid,
- 18:06Sam Harris, and nothing ever turned up. They'd never found a body or
- 18:12signs of anything. And that can happen a lot up here. There's a
- 18:19lot of pretty big wilderness in Vermont even today, but back, you know,
- 18:26seventy something years ago, there was a lot less development and Vermont's a
- 18:32rural state already really. But so about twenty years later in the nineteen seventies,
- 18:40one of the residents in town was up at night and he heard something
- 18:47kind of outside of his house, and so he turned on a floodlight and
- 18:53was peeking outside of his door and he saw this creature just kind of peeking
- 18:59out of the shadows from where the light was able to go to, and
- 19:04he saw this kind of weird pig like face and the second it saw him,
- 19:10it ran off. He could hear it running out into the woods.
- 19:14Now, a few days later, the local high school, Northfield High School,
- 19:21was having a school dance, and there were a few kids that were
- 19:26they had snuck out behind the high school. And I've actually gone there.
- 19:33I've been out to Northfield a few times. I don't live too far away
- 19:38from there, but it's kind of like up on top of a hill and
- 19:44behind the school, it's just like this really steep embankment and it backs up
- 19:48to a forest. So they're hanging out back there, probably on the soccer
- 19:53field that they have behind the school. Hell of a hike for the athletes
- 19:59going up there. But they see this white fur six foot something tall creature
- 20:08come out of the woods and they're sitting there smoking cigarettes, drinking beers,
- 20:15and they're terrified. They're like, what is this thing? And it's this
- 20:22pig faced looking creature with white fur, has no clothes on, and it
- 20:27scares them to death. So they all run into the gymnasium and they're screaming
- 20:33like there's a monster out there. And the part of the story goes is
- 20:37that like a few brave youths, some other fellow students join them, they
- 20:42go out to go see what's going on and to you know, confront this
- 20:47creature, and by the time they get there, it's gone. It had
- 20:52slipped back into the woods. Now, after this sighting, there were several
- 20:57other locals who reported waking up at night hearing something rummaging through their trash and
- 21:06they go out with some flashlights or they turn on their their outside porch light
- 21:10and they see this this humanoid, white furred creature with a pig face going
- 21:15through their trash or coming after their livestock. There were apparently reports of livestock
- 21:22mutilations or just livestock going missing. And so how Sam Harris ties into this
- 21:30is that people people believe that this this this creature may have actually been Sam
- 21:37Harris, maybe that Sam Harris had made a deal with the devil. There
- 21:41were also rumors that he was cruel to animals, specifically pigs. There were
- 21:48rumors that he would hollow out heads of pigs and wear them like a mask.
- 21:53Kind of like a leather faced style from Texas Chainsaw Massacre. And so
- 22:00that's kind of yeah, yeah. And then by the time like the nineteen
- 22:11eighties, like late eighties, early nineties rolled around, there was apparently this
- 22:17was a story that I came across on a message board that somebody relaid that
- 22:23he had a either it was either a friend or a sibling, friend or
- 22:29a friend. Who knows exactly that a group two couples boyfriend, girlfriend,
- 22:37two couples went up to Devil's Washbull Road, which is a where a lot
- 22:42of people had reported seeing the pig Man, so they believed that his layer
- 22:48was like in a cave somewhere. And it's a Devil's Washbul Road go cuts
- 22:52through over Moretown Mountain, and so it kind of separates the towns of more
- 22:57Town, Vermont in Northfield. It's a pretty remote It's it's on a Class
- 23:03four road, which is a you can only fit one car down it.
- 23:07It's not maintained in the summer or in the winter. You can't drive it
- 23:11in the winter. There are a few houses on each end of it.
- 23:15One end connects more Town, one end connects Northfield, but there's about a
- 23:19mile a mile and a half stretch in between, which is just this single
- 23:22road. There's an embankment down the side that goes down to a river,
- 23:27probably several hundred feet the no guardrails or anything. And so they went up
- 23:34to this area and apparently there's a bunch of caves up there. Now I've
- 23:41been up there. There was a new road being developed as an offshoot that
- 23:45I went hiking up once, but I didn't go far enough to see and
- 23:49didn't didn't want to run into the pig Man really, But yeah, So
- 23:56the story was that this couples went up to do a stakeout to see if
- 24:02they could catch a glimpse of the Pigman. And they found the caves and
- 24:07one of the couples took one cave. The other couple took another cave that
- 24:12was nearby, and they were going to camp out, and you know,
- 24:18just see what would happen being teens and being fearless or whatever. And so
- 24:25one couple is in this cave and they see all these animal bones in there,
- 24:30So something had been occupying the cave. Could have been a mountain lion,
- 24:36could have been a bear. They weren't entirely sure. They were a
- 24:38little bit uneasy at the situation, and then as they're kind of like settling
- 24:44in there, suddenly the other couple in the other cave hear them screaming.
- 24:53Turns out that the Pigman had come into the cave, taken a rock and
- 24:59bashed the boyfriend's head in with the rock and dragged his body off. Well,
- 25:04the girlfriend was sitting there like screaming in horror at what had just happened.
- 25:10And so apparently the other couple came to see what was going on and
- 25:15they were like, oh, we got to get out of here, and
- 25:17I guess the police were called. I tried looking to see if there were
- 25:21any reports to verify this, short of like going to like the town clerk's
- 25:26office in Northfield, which I would like to do sometime, but it's hard
- 25:30to hard to do these days with the limited schedule. But there wasn't anything
- 25:34to verify those claims exactly. It could have been, you know, just
- 25:37people making stuff up on the internet. But I will say that, you
- 25:45know, there haven't really been any pig man signings that I'm aware of since
- 25:49then. Specifically, however, on the BFRO there was a report that I
- 25:57ran across from the more Town Northfield area of a sasquatch, a bigfoot that
- 26:06had white, white hair, and so yeah, I was actually gonna ask
- 26:11you. This makes me wonder. Yeah, something makes me wonder if maybe
- 26:15what people were seeing back in the fifties, sixty seventies and even eighties,
- 26:19and who knows, maybe later that it may have been a bigfoot with maybe
- 26:26a facial deformity or something like that. I I I just have to wonder
- 26:33if that's what that may have been. You know. Well that's the story
- 26:37of the Northfield Pigman in a nutshell. Okay, I love this, I
- 26:41absolutely love it, and I have I have, I have a couple of
- 26:44questions and some thoughts on this because we do have a lot of white things.
- 26:49I say things because I'm from Georgia. Okay, white thanks. All
- 26:53over the country we have reports of white sasquatches, white bigfoots. There are
- 27:00other white white creatures like white dog men looking creatures and stuff up and Maine.
- 27:03From what I can recall, I mean, every region has a white
- 27:08thing of some sort, and uh and so uh John Fortman actually had a
- 27:14really interesting comment uh in here, and it was I think it's Coco.
- 27:18Actually, but this is about the Japanese vampires. Okay, so this is
- 27:22interesting because I love making these connections. Japanese vampires are white fur. Two
- 27:27theory goes that is not fur but filaments of a white fungus. Wow,
- 27:32that's really cool because when I look at because because you know, when it's
- 27:37dark and you see something that's really frightening. I mean, there could be
- 27:41some misidentification. You don't know what you're looking at. But maybe it just
- 27:45had like a snouty nose, it had a snout on it or something.
- 27:49I don't know. You're uh, Mark, you're familiar with bigfoot, Okay,
- 27:53you you've had your share of bigfoot reports and taken reports. Do you
- 27:57think that this could have been the pig Man could actually be a Bigfoot?
- 28:02Maybe? Well that's what I was thinking. The things that were described in
- 28:07the story are things that potentially you would hear a bigfoot dude, like hanging
- 28:17out in a cave using a rock or you know, something something as a
- 28:23weapon like a rock, or you know, you hear of them using down
- 28:30trees or logs, pieces of logs or whatever. And you know the way
- 28:38that it's portrayed in the story, you know, leads me to believe that
- 28:45that it's very possible that it could have been a misidentified Bigfoot. And you
- 28:52know that whole white white hair thing. You know, I don't know if
- 29:02there's like a certain percentage that you know, are genetically white or solid black
- 29:06or whatever, but you know, I've seen I've seen black ones. I've
- 29:11seen you know, ones with you know, the prettiest irish color cetered set
- 29:18he colored hair. I know that probably came out all jumbled up, but
- 29:25h brown ones, kind of a reddish brown tint ones that look straight up
- 29:32black Chewbacca off of Star Wars, you know, with black brown hair gray.
- 29:40I've never seen one that's solid white, but I've I've heard of people
- 29:45seeing those. And that whole facial feature thing, you know, when you
- 29:55look at the different types, you know, some of them do have you
- 30:00know, not real long protruding snouts, but you know, short muzzles that
- 30:07that can you know, could or could give that impression that it has like
- 30:12a like a hog type those or a pig man type those. You know,
- 30:23So it's definitely a possibility in my opinion. Well, when I was
- 30:30doing some you know, pulling up some pictures and you type in the Northfield
- 30:34pig man or the Vermont pig man. Things like this came up and I
- 30:38was like, man, that that looks more like an like some kind of
- 30:42grimlin or something. It doesn't really look as much like a pig man.
- 30:47But but then I came across as drawing too, It's like it looks more
- 30:51like a dog man kind of. So it's just it's kind of all over
- 30:55the place with as far as exactly what this thing looks like. Of course,
- 30:59that true that I had on the thumbnail for the show, y'all.
- 31:03I know it is a scary looking pig man, it is, but it
- 31:07looks more like that one. This one does look more like a dog man
- 31:10or like a batsquatch or something. You know. So I don't know.
- 31:15I just love the story. I think it's a great local cryptid. Now
- 31:18do the people at at Northfield they did they, I don't say, benefit
- 31:23off of this, did they did they kind of run with it and have
- 31:26like a festival, like a pig man festival? Jeff, Like, do
- 31:30they do they embrace it? Or no? You know, as far as
- 31:33I know, there's nobody that has put together a festival maybe that's my calling
- 31:40to put on a festival in Vermont for the pig Man. But yeah,
- 31:45you know, besides some blog posts and some coverage in local media, there
- 31:52hasn't really been I guess, an embracing of the story places like Point Pleasant,
- 32:01West Virginia for the Mothman, or the Hopkinsville Goblins or anything like that,
- 32:07or the Loveland Frogman in Ohio, which there's now a festival for.
- 32:12Oh yeah, well, I think the story of the pig Man is a
- 32:15little more morbid, and so there's probably not going to be a festival.
- 32:20It would be so fast to make a festival over a homicidal pig man,
- 32:22probably, right, Yeah, yeah, it's not really one of the cute
- 32:27cryptids that a lot of these festivals are more based about, for sure.
- 32:34Yeah, yeah, yeah, go ahead. I was just gonna say,
- 32:40I've seen some comments in the chat about, you know, dog Man,
- 32:46maybe a connection there, you know, and there are some some accounts of
- 32:55dog Man in Vermont. If you'd like to hear about any of that,
- 33:00yes, of course I would. Well, how about I tell my story
- 33:05real briefly about my experience with pig Man, because I had I had almost
- 33:09forgotten about this, okay, because this happened in high school and we actually
- 33:15we had we have local legends here in Georgia, of course. And when
- 33:20I was in high school, I guess, you know, you get bored,
- 33:22you're looking for something fun to do, and uh, And there was
- 33:25a legend of pig Man in the in the county where I lived. And
- 33:30the story behind it went, Uh, there was a man who had actually
- 33:34unalived his family and he had buried them in the front room of his house.
- 33:38He dug he put it. He buried them underneath the house, but
- 33:43under like the front room of his house. And if you went to his
- 33:45house at night, late at night, and you get out of your car
- 33:50and you walk up to the house, he will run out from behind the
- 33:52house and chase you off. And and so of course what did I do.
- 33:57I had to go check it out. And when when I was in
- 34:00high school, and I think I went more than once. I went a
- 34:02couple of times. But each time that I went, as soon as I
- 34:07got out of the car, and I'd have my friends with me, we
- 34:09would get out and of course it was like the brave guys went first,
- 34:14but we would walk towards that house, and sure enough, something chased us
- 34:19out of there, and I never I never got a look at what it
- 34:21was. I never did. All you could hear was something it sounded like
- 34:24a herd of elephants running through the forest, okay, because it was heavily
- 34:30wooded around. And so in my mind, I'm seeing like the pig man
- 34:32that's on the thumbnail for the show, Okay, I'm seeing some man that's
- 34:37either turned into a pig. I don't know why they called him pig man.
- 34:40They said he looked like a pig. He was half pig half man.
- 34:44He had turned into a pig or something. So of course, what
- 34:47did I do. I got really interested in it, and I was really
- 34:52big into our mass media at school, and so one day, me and
- 34:54my friends we actually went and shot video of the property in the house.
- 35:00We went inside the house and sure enough, the front all the floorboards in
- 35:02that front room had been removed, and there was a hole at least six
- 35:07feet deep into the ground full of children's clothing in there. And so I
- 35:13don't know, I can't it's been a long time since I did that.
- 35:17I have the VHS tape here somewhere. I need to go back and look
- 35:21into that. But that was the legend of pig Man, and we actually
- 35:23did a story on it back when I was in high school back in the
- 35:27nineteen nineties. So but the story's kind of similar though, it's kind of
- 35:31like a homicidal pig man, you know. So yeah, it's really scary,
- 35:38okay, but that's my story. I really never talked about that because
- 35:42I kind of forgot about it, okay until we started getting into pig Man.
- 35:45Now. I want to hear about the dog men and all the werewolves
- 35:49that you guys have up there. Yeah. Yeah. This was something that
- 35:53was brought to my attention by Carrock Saint Laurent, who is a cryptozoologist based
- 36:01in New Hampshire, and he told me to look into the story of the
- 36:08Hound of Cold Hollow, and I was like, what is this? And
- 36:13so I looked into it and it turns out that in the town of Enosburg
- 36:20Falls, which is northern Vermont, it's close to the Canadian border there.
- 36:28Gosh, I think it was about it was like the early two thousands that
- 36:32there was this woman that kept seeing this dog man type creature around her property
- 36:42and she was getting audio recordings of it. You can find those on a
- 36:47blog somewhere. I don't have link handy unfortunately. I can probably send it
- 36:52to you later to put in your descriptions and stuff. But basically it's just
- 37:00accounts of people seeing this thing out in the woods. Now, there aren't
- 37:07wolves officially in Vermont anymore. They were made extinct back in the late eighteen
- 37:13hundreds, although there have been reports recently of wolves making their way across Canada
- 37:20and reintroducing themselves into this part of the country. I've seen a koy dog
- 37:27before, which is kind of like a hybrid like a wolf coyote type thing
- 37:31that ran across the road when I was driving home one night late and it
- 37:37was like the winter, so the headlights on the car were really illuminating everything
- 37:42because there were snow on the ground, and this like massive thing just ran
- 37:45across the road and I was like, what was that. No, No,
- 37:50I was on all foursts. I was on all fours and I know
- 37:52how big wolves are in real life. When I was in the sixth grade,
- 37:58there was a wolf sanctuary in and I believe it was Ipswich, Massachusetts,
- 38:02and took a field trip there when I was like twelve years old and
- 38:06got to see this wolf pack and the alphas. We were in this it
- 38:12was kind of like the den for the wolves that was closer to the main
- 38:16facility, and they were big, like and you think reports of dog men
- 38:23being six seven feet tall even bigger than that. It's kind of kind of
- 38:29crazy. But as I was looking into this, this Hound of Cold Hollow
- 38:32story, I ran across old accounts of some laggers saw mill workers that were
- 38:42in what's now the Grotten State Forest, which I live maybe like a half
- 38:47an hour from there, and there was an account where there was a group
- 38:53of three loggers. They were out in the woods and somehow one of them
- 39:00got separated from the other two. I'm not sure if he just kind of
- 39:04went to go scout out some other areas and he went missing. And a
- 39:08few days later he comes out of the woods and he's just like totally deranged
- 39:12talking about seeing this man wolf creature out there and it drove them insane.
- 39:20And so I'm like, oh, man, I live like right near there.
- 39:23And there were theories that potentially because there's stories in Quebec, Canada,
- 39:32which is not not far and it's maybe like an hour drive two hours drive
- 39:37at the most and there's stories there about the lou Garou or what people from
- 39:44Louisiana call the rugaroo, may have been up there and worked their way down
- 39:52to Vermont. Maybe they came over on a boat from Europe or something like
- 39:55that. I don't know, but there are some some in interesting accounts of
- 40:01some dog men in in Vermont. I heard a story from someone who had
- 40:07reached out to me a while ago that they saw something. They were outside
- 40:15on their deck one day and they live on a pretty like rural property up
- 40:24on a mountain side, lots of acreage and most of it's just woods,
- 40:30backs up to a state forest, and they were outside and they're just like
- 40:35walking on their deck and they heard this like unearthly like scream howl. And
- 40:44they looked over to the wooded edge of the property, which kind of went
- 40:47up a hill a little bit, and they saw this six seven foot tall
- 40:53bipedal thing. They were like, it's probably a bear or something. It's
- 41:00like, no, that wasn't a pair and it was like moving trees out
- 41:02of the way as it saw them and ran off. You know. My
- 41:07first thought was like, well, it's either got to be a bigfoot or
- 41:09a dog. Man, And you know, I wasn't at that point.
- 41:13I wasn't aware of the Hound of Cold Hollows story or the story from those
- 41:17loggers in the Grotten State Forest. And after hearing about those I was thinking
- 41:23about that account that was told to me, and I was just like,
- 41:27you know, that may have been a dog man. I'm not sure.
- 41:30I'm not sure. And interestingly, there's in that region. There were also
- 41:37accounts of some other people having footprints appear, tiny footprints, like child sized
- 41:45footprints, bare footprints appear around their chicken coop in the middle of winter and
- 41:52they walked off and just stopped. So there may be some kind of like
- 41:57fay activity as well in certain parts of of this this this region of the
- 42:04world where it's just like oh yeah, you know, well, Jeff,
- 42:07okay, so so my when my team's out there doing research, there was
- 42:09there We have an account of bomb. One of the guys on our team.
- 42:14Uh, he was doing some he was doing some scouting, and it
- 42:17was down by the creek and an area where we researched, and there was
- 42:21one tiny child sized foot bare footprint, like a little a little human footprint
- 42:27in the mud by the creek. But there were no other footprints. There
- 42:30was once, and so we kind of were like, Okay, well,
- 42:32it could be a couple of things, because this is in the middle of
- 42:36nowhere. It could be a baby sasquatch maybe, but it seemed more it
- 42:40was like superhuman. It was like human. Uh not. It didn't look
- 42:45like sasquat, like a sasquatch foot It looked human. But we were also
- 42:49thinking what it could have been, like an et, I guess, but
- 42:52I never even thought about it being the fay or something, and maybe it
- 42:54could like a gnome or a little person. Yeah, yeah, I I'm
- 43:00not entirely sure you know what it could be. But you know, the
- 43:06phase is a topic that I'm horribly underversed in. But I did an episode
- 43:14on my show about the Alaska Triangle and came across stories of people running into
- 43:20little little people, like in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of miles from
- 43:23anything where they see They're like there was an account of some people going up
- 43:29a river and they saw this little guy maybe like three feet tall or less,
- 43:34with a pointed hat, smoking a pipe and he just kind of got
- 43:37up that they observed him for like half an hour to get up and like
- 43:39went into the woods and like what do you do with that? Questions?
- 43:44Yeah, well it's a typical gnome. And I had I had Charles Andrews
- 43:47on my show. He's a bigfooter from up in the Catskill Mountains and that's
- 43:51where he lives, directly across the mountain from the infamous Rip van Winkle story.
- 43:57And and they're very they're infamous for the nomes there and the little people
- 44:00up in that area. And one of my teammates, Dave Pardue, he's
- 44:05out in North Carolina with Carolina Cryptid Field Research Organization. He he has a
- 44:09video and it has little people in it. Okay, there's a video.
- 44:15You can see them they as they look like they're walking in a single file
- 44:19line. Okay, like just having a good old time through the woods.
- 44:23This is it. I think you filmed this at a national forest. Okay,
- 44:27a national forest. And they're just like little they're like little people.
- 44:30They kind of we're kind of on the fence cycle. Are they little people
- 44:32like gnomes or are they eats? You know, That's that's kind of our
- 44:37where we're at right now. It's like are they little people or ets?
- 44:39So, but they're in the woods. They're definitely out there, and Dave
- 44:44has a video of some interesting Yeah, it's it's like thermal imaging. So
- 44:50it's it's thermal so you can only see their body timber. Sure, you
- 44:52can't see like what they look like exactly. You can just see their their
- 44:57heat signature. Gotcha. Yeah, it's cool. We'll have to check out
- 45:00that footage at some point. Yeah, it's pretty awesome. It's pretty awesome.
- 45:06Well okay, so wow, so little people, little people were a
- 45:08thing up north to and so we've got him down here, you guys got
- 45:12him up here. I also have something called the Awful. Are you familiar
- 45:16with that? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Well it's one of my
- 45:21favorite named cryptids. That's that's for sure. So the story behind this,
- 45:25and it kind of ties into like thunderbirds, is that back in the nineteen
- 45:31twenties, nineteen twenty five, the town of Richford, Vermont, it's right
- 45:37on the Canadian border to Quebec, and the first sighting of this where there
- 45:44were were some mill workers and they were walking down the street and they saw
- 45:51they looked up and saw this massive bird like creature, which a lot of
- 45:59people just ribed it as looking almost griffin like and it was just kind of
- 46:05staring at them menacingly, and it was so horrendous, so awful, if
- 46:12you will, that one of the men in this group that witnessed it apparently
- 46:16had a heart attack and he recovered, but apparently would have like nightmare about
- 46:22this thing for like weeks and weeks and months after and in the following year
- 46:29or two after this initial sighting, lots of locals in Richford and the surrounding
- 46:34towns would see this giant birdlike creature flying over cornfields, perched on top of
- 46:43telephone poles and different buildings, and it was more of just kind of like
- 46:49a menace. It didn't as far as I found in my research, it
- 46:52never really attacked anybody. It would just kind of hang out and look at
- 46:57people, which is interesting. There was one story of a local farmer's wife
- 47:04named Auela Hopkins who went outside one day to hang laundry to dry. It's
- 47:10a warm summer day. She's hanging up the laundry. All of a sudden,
- 47:15family dog who's outside starts barking at something, and it's barking towards the
- 47:19house and she turns around and she sees this massive massive bird creature perched on
- 47:27the roof of the farmhouse, and so naturally she runs towards the house to
- 47:32get inside and spends the rest of the day hiding under the bed until her
- 47:37husband comes home, and by that point, early evening, it had flown
- 47:44off. Now, interestingly, stories of the awful inspired HP Lovecraft to come
- 47:52up to Vermont to kind of like investigate, and I guess it inspired a
- 47:57little bit of his writing. So that's an interesting little historical tidbit. But
- 48:04after the mid late twenties, sightings of it kind of fell off. But
- 48:12as recently as two thousand and six and maybe even since then, some people
- 48:15occasionally report seeing a massive thunderbird type creature in northern Vermont. I've covered it
- 48:22before on my channel, and I've had people comment saying that, like,
- 48:27oh, yeah, like I saw I saw that thing back in like the
- 48:30seventies or the eighties, just kind of like flying around in the area.
- 48:37And you know, that's not a documented species in Vermont or anywhere else nearby,
- 48:45So yeah, it looks a lot like the griffin. You know,
- 48:50there's actually a video going around that I saw online of an alleged griffin.
- 48:54It actually it looks like a bird dog like a dog bird mix or something.
- 49:00Thing. It's beautiful. This thing is gigantic and it's I don't know
- 49:05if that's they're just one, if this is like a lab created species or
- 49:08something, or I mean, I don't know if if all of these Old
- 49:13world cryptids that we hear about. I mean, of course there's like dragons
- 49:17and unicorns and Blimmy's good gosh and Blimmy show back up. I'm gonna that's
- 49:22gonna be weird, Okay, Lemmy. Like the there's like a torso of
- 49:28a human, like a human body with no head and the faces in the
- 49:30chest. You know, yeah, but what if there is like a resurgence
- 49:36of a lot of these Old world beast and chimeras and animals and what what
- 49:42if that's happening now? Yeah? Yeah, you know that Also Old world
- 49:46Old world cryptis makes me think of like things like the satyr goat man.
- 49:52There's all sorts of goat men uh reported all over the country, uh in
- 49:58America. But I got a report from somebody once who lived in Greece,
- 50:04and they were telling me. This was early on when I started strangeologies is
- 50:08back in twenty twenty and they reached out to me and they're like, yeah,
- 50:13I was spending a week at my aunt's house and I slept on the
- 50:17living room couch and it the front door to the house was off the living
- 50:25room and they had next to the door, they had a glass panel wall
- 50:31with like the the opaque or you can't see through the glass, you know,
- 50:37I can't. It's like kind of like we Yeah, And they woke
- 50:42up in the middle of the night and for some reason, and they walked
- 50:45over to the door because they saw a shadow coming through the glass that they
- 50:51could see, and they like looked out and there was this tall goat man
- 50:55standing at the front door, this like silhouette horns and the cloven feet and
- 51:02everything. And they're like, I swear I wasn't dreaming. Like I got
- 51:06up and like I couldn't go back to pad after that. It's like it's
- 51:09like I'm telling my aunt I'm never sleeping at her place again. So it's
- 51:13just like, yeah, this stuff's everywhere. You know. That would be
- 51:16terrifying. I mean imagine trying to go to sleep after that. It's like
- 51:22the Devil's at your door literally right right, Like, oh, my gosh,
- 51:28yeah, we had a lot of goat man reports all over the place.
- 51:31I actually okay, So I have a friend who sent me a picture.
- 51:35He asked me not to show it. I never showed this thing,
- 51:38Okay. I don't even know where I put it, honestly, but he'd
- 51:40sent me a game trail picture of an actual goat man. And it was
- 51:47not a go It didn't look like a goat like. It was like a
- 51:50like a pan character I guess, like from the waist down. It looked
- 51:53like he had hair or like a fur on his from his hips down,
- 51:58and then from the top of it was a man's body, like a lanky
- 52:01looking man, was like stringy hair and a beard. And it didn't look
- 52:07like a goat at all on his face that I could tell, but it
- 52:08looked like it from the waist down. And they had been having some really
- 52:13interesting activity on their property, and I believe he sent me that because there
- 52:17had been there been an incident where someone had been kind of attacked or accosted
- 52:22on his property and we thought it might be a goat man. I don't
- 52:28know. It was a long story, okay, But then they had a
- 52:30picture on the game camp it looked like an actual goat man, and we
- 52:34were debating. I think the debate was, well, could it have been
- 52:37a feral human? It could have been a feral human that was wearing some
- 52:39furry pants, you know, but it was really odd. Yeah, that
- 52:46is quite bizarre for sure. Yeah, what do you guys have reports of
- 52:52like feral humans and stuff up in the because we have them down here in
- 52:55the Appalachians in the South. You know, I'm actually I'm not not familiar
- 53:01with any stories of feral humans per se. But yeah, that's you know,
- 53:10maybe a good thing, but it's yeah, it's just it's just something
- 53:14else to kind of add to the mix when it comes to the cryptids of
- 53:17the in the mountains and stuff, because you know, especially when it comes
- 53:21from like a researcher's perspective, I can assume you'll probably get some feral humans
- 53:24in Kentucky, Mark, Yes, I have heard plenty of stories of feral
- 53:31humans and just another thing to be concerned about when you're out in the woods.
- 53:39Yes, okay, well I want to I want to cover a couple
- 53:43more cryptos who before we go, because you also have well the Bennington Triangle.
- 53:47Can you kind of explain what the Bennington Triangle is, because I hear
- 53:51there's a lot, there's squatch reports and all sorts of other high strangeness out
- 53:54of this area. Yeah, for sure. So the Bennington Triangle is in
- 54:00the lower southwest corner of the state, on the border of Massachusetts and New
- 54:07York. And the term was coined by Joseph cicro Back in nineteen ninety two
- 54:13based on all sorts of high strangeness happening around the Bennington area, specifically between
- 54:21the towns of Bennington, Woodford, and Shaftsbury. And at the center of
- 54:27it all is a ghost town called Glastonbury on top of Glastonbury Mountain, and
- 54:34that whole area it used to be a thriving milltown. There was a huge
- 54:38logging operation that was happening there back in the eighteen hundreds. Not a huge
- 54:45population of people that lived there, a few hundred people. But over time,
- 54:50as the nineteenth century was coming to a close, a lot of people
- 54:53were starting to move out. The logging industry was kind of drying up.
- 54:58Most of Vermont was like cut by the time. By the turn of the
- 55:01twentieth century, I think about eighty percent of the state was clear cut,
- 55:07and so I think that was possibly a reason why eventually there was like a
- 55:10casino built on top of the mountain to try and drive some tourism and to
- 55:16keep the place alive. But I believe it was in like eighteen ninety six
- 55:22or eighteen ninety seven there was this really bad storm that washed away a whole
- 55:29bunch of roads. There was like one bridge and one road really that went
- 55:35in and out of the town, and it was up on a mountain,
- 55:37so it wasn't very easy to get up to in the first place, and
- 55:40so that kind of killed the town. It became unincorporated by the I think
- 55:47the early nineteen thirties, there were like three people left living there. But
- 55:52over the years, in that area, which is now part of a state
- 55:55forest, it's there's been reports of the Bennington Monster, which is kind of
- 56:02like a Bigfoot. There's been UFO sightings. There's also an old legend from
- 56:09the Abenaki Iroquois that there is a man eating rock that lurks out in the
- 56:19Bennington Triangle. And the story behind that is it's like a rock that's big
- 56:24enough to stand on, and if you stand on it, it starts to
- 56:28become kind of malleable and it will swallow a person whole. Now, this
- 56:34might just be an allegory for something else. It's one of the more bizarre
- 56:40things that I've ever come across. A rock that swallows somebody. How could
- 56:45that be? But that's one of the strange things that you could potentially run
- 56:52across in the Bennington Triangle. There's also a series of missing persons reports that
- 57:02took place between nineteen forty five and nineteen fifty. One of the big,
- 57:07more well known cases was a hunting trail guide, this guy named Middy Rivers,
- 57:14who he was in his mid seventies at the time, but he was
- 57:17really experienced. He was taking a tour group out nineteen forty five nineteen forty
- 57:23six or so, and they were on this trail out in the wilderness and
- 57:30he rounded a corner on the trail and as the group caught up around this
- 57:37corner, he was gone. He had completely vanished, like missing four one
- 57:40to one style. And I think the only thing that was ever found of
- 57:45his was a shell casing from his rifle that was like down an embankment into
- 57:54near a river, and that was the only trace of him that they ever
- 57:58found. Just like vanished into thin air. There was another case of a
- 58:05college student that had gone missing, a young woman who was trying to catch
- 58:10a ride to go see a boyfriend I think up in Burlington, and she
- 58:19completely disappeared. There was an army vat who was a couple of years later,
- 58:25who was taking a bus from I believe Saint Albans, which is on
- 58:30the northern part of the state, same side of the state, and he
- 58:37had his stuff on this bus that was going down Route seven down to Bennington,
- 58:40and when the bus arrived, he was gone. His stuff was still
- 58:46on the bus. No one remembered seeing him get off the bus. He
- 58:50had just like completely disappeared by the time they reached there. And then there
- 58:54was another story of a young child who was with his mother one day she
- 59:00was out running errands and I believe he had gotten out of the car.
- 59:06This was like by nineteen fifty, I believe, and he had gotten out
- 59:10of the car, went up a trail and just had disappeared, unfortunately,
- 59:14and there's a massive search to find him and no one ever, no one
- 59:17ever found the kid unfortunately. So yeah, there's a you know, some
- 59:22of those could certainly be explained by you know, not surviving due to exposure
- 59:29to the elements. But with all the other high strangeness cryptied sightings, UFO
- 59:34sightings and that kind of stuff, it does make you wonder if potentially some
- 59:38of them are more inexplicable than others. You know. Yeah, well,
- 59:44I find with a lot of the missing person's clusters, they do. They
- 59:47do kind of line up with the Bigfoot encryptied sightings and the UFO sightings and
- 59:53the cave systems in the mountain rang especially in the Appellachians and all over the
- 1:00:00country really, but it does kind of coincide and it goes hand in hand.
- 1:00:05Now, I got to say, the first guy that went missing,
- 1:00:07at least he got a shot off, Okay, at least he shot something,
- 1:00:09hopefully on his way through the portal or wherever he went. Okay.
- 1:00:15But yeah, it's really fascinating as to the missing people and the cryptids being
- 1:00:22so you know, being so the sightings and that coinciting. Do you do
- 1:00:29you think that the cryptis could be responsible for some of these missing people?
- 1:00:31You know, it's it's entirely possible if they're there are hairy humanoids out there
- 1:00:39or the fae portal could open up. Who knows exactly. There's one story
- 1:00:45that I always remember that's in you know, one of I believe it's in
- 1:00:51one of David Polaitis's documentaries or books, where there's a story of a family
- 1:00:55who were at a campground and the son went missing as they were playing hide
- 1:01:00and seek, and later on another family saw something that looked like a bigfoot
- 1:01:07carrying a kid size something off into the distance, and it's just like,
- 1:01:13yeah, like that it's potential. It's kind of scary to think about,
- 1:01:16but there there's definitely definitely a chance that that could be a thing. And
- 1:01:24never take your eyes off your kid when you are in the woods. And
- 1:01:28I that's coming from a lady who takes her son to the woods pretty often.
- 1:01:31We go out. We usually have our German shepherd with this too,
- 1:01:35okay, whenever I'm out there, and it's we never go off trail at
- 1:01:38all, and I always have my eyes on him, and he knows better
- 1:01:42he knows I will whip his butt figurably, okay, because there's just too
- 1:01:49many, too many stories of children going missing. I mean, I don't
- 1:01:52even let him walk behind me ever, Like he has to be right there
- 1:01:54in front of me at all times. So yeah, there's some real dangers
- 1:02:00out there. Okay, Jeff, what is your favorite cryptid in the entire
- 1:02:04world? Like, what is your favorite? Because I know, I know
- 1:02:07you got one or yeah, well you'd think that being from from Vermont,
- 1:02:13that my favorite cryptid would be Champ But I actually love the story of the
- 1:02:17New Jersey Devil, so that's kind of my my favorite cryptid for the time
- 1:02:23being. I've found a lot of like close seconds over the years, but
- 1:02:29the Devil. I just love the the history, the folklore. There's just
- 1:02:35so much to the story, hundreds of years worth of history with it,
- 1:02:38which is really cool. Yeah, and they're and they're often reported looking kind
- 1:02:43of different too. So one person will see one that looks like a goat
- 1:02:45man, and then somebody else will see one that's flying and it's got wings,
- 1:02:50and so it's really odd. I feel like there's more than just one
- 1:02:52goat man. I'm not goat man, not go man. Yeah, there's
- 1:02:58more than one goat man, but more than one Jersey Devil. Yeah,
- 1:03:01Yeah, it's it's pretty interesting. And some some people, uh, during
- 1:03:06the nineteen oh nine flat that happened where all hundreds of people were seeing this
- 1:03:10thing that some people also reported it seeing it like breathing fire. So it's
- 1:03:15like, is it a dragon like what's going on here? Or is it
- 1:03:20really a devil? Like? Is the story of what their leads true?
- 1:03:24It's interesting it could be. I think, I think if I had to
- 1:03:29pick, like, I love so many different cryptids. I like the big
- 1:03:30ones though, like just like just like, I like you know, big
- 1:03:34dog, like my Germis. I like the big cryptids, okay, And
- 1:03:37so I'm really into like the Kushtaka and like the dog Man, and of
- 1:03:40course I love my big Foot. So Mark, what is your favorite cryptid?
- 1:03:45Cryptid? Bill? Do you have a favorite? I would say probably
- 1:03:52that would have to be mmmmm, gonna go with a with a classic,
- 1:04:03and that classic is going to be the uh I'm trying to remember what it's
- 1:04:14what its name is, the the the Tasmanian Tiger. Because it's a it's
- 1:04:20actually a true cryptid now uh. And I say that because when you when
- 1:04:27you use the term cryptid, crypted is okay to uh used to describe these
- 1:04:39things, but some of them are not actually cryptids because they have uh supernatural
- 1:04:45paradormal attributes, and you know that falls into it, in my opinion,
- 1:04:53a different category. So I'm just gonna go with the the standard tas as
- 1:05:00many a tiger and as being a favorite, I guess because I've never seen
- 1:05:09one, but I've seen just about everything else there is. You know,
- 1:05:14I've seen bigfoot, dog band, little people, you know, all manner
- 1:05:21of strangeness. Oh yeah, yeah, Actually, Jeff Mark Mark has actually
- 1:05:28seen a dog man that looked like it had war paint on its face really
- 1:05:31at the lb L. Yeah, it's one of the most fascinating dog man
- 1:05:34stories that I've heard. Very very yeah, very unique. It puts another
- 1:05:42layer on it, you know, it's like it's not just a dog man,
- 1:05:45it's got face paint, you know, war paint on. So.
- 1:05:49Yeah, there's just such a wild, a wild and wide world of crypcheons
- 1:05:54out there, and I think that you're covering so many great ones. And
- 1:05:59you also, like you said Champ, You said Champ. So there's a
- 1:06:01lot of lake monsters and that's something that I've been looking into lately, or
- 1:06:04lake monsters, lake mermaids. Who would have thought we have lake mermaids all
- 1:06:12over the United States, you know, I don't know. Have you have
- 1:06:17you dived into have you dived into some lake mermaids yet on your channel?
- 1:06:21No, I haven't yet. The mud Mermaids in Indiana is a story that
- 1:06:28I've been wanting to cover for a while, but I don't know. I
- 1:06:30don't know the specifics of it. Actually, it's interesting. I actually ran
- 1:06:35across a video and I probably should have saved it where some people came across
- 1:06:43a cave that had old cave paintings in I believe it was South Africa,
- 1:06:51kind of near the Atlantic Ocean, that were like seventy thousand year old cave
- 1:06:56paintings that seemed to show a humanoid torso with a fishtail, Like what else
- 1:07:04would that be? I don't know. And the legitimacy of the of that
- 1:07:12is unfair and unverified. But you know, interesting that that came up a
- 1:07:16little bit of a synchronicity, and well, you know what, I really
- 1:07:21enjoy researching the Lake Pyramid mermaid. So, the Lake Pyramid in Nevada,
- 1:07:28that's a place of super high strange as too with their water babies. I've
- 1:07:30got a show on that here, and it's something to look into. So
- 1:07:34and actually we my friend Mike up in New York, Long Island Bigfoot.
- 1:07:40He had a report of a lake mermaid in New York recently, No kidding,
- 1:07:45now, yeah, there's always something. We never run out of topics
- 1:07:49on the Cryptid Hunter's channel, and I know you don't either, And man,
- 1:07:55there's so many great cool cryptids out there. So yeah, well tell
- 1:08:00everybody in the audience where they can find you and stuff. I mean,
- 1:08:03or do you do you guys have any final words or any final thoughts about
- 1:08:08the Vermont Cryptids site. Oh gosh, you know, I guess, uh,
- 1:08:16we didn't really speaking of lake monsters, we didn't really mention too much
- 1:08:20about Champ. Oh, let's talk about Champion. Actually pretty interested because it
- 1:08:26sounds sounds like you'd be like a Lotanus monster, but not in Scotland here.
- 1:08:31Yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, the with with NeSSI
- 1:08:36there's reports going back to like the Middle Ages, of course, but the
- 1:08:43the first alleged account post colonial America was from Samuel D. Champlain in sixteen
- 1:08:53oh nine. There's an account in Vermont Life magazine that claimed that he had
- 1:08:59seen some kind of sea serpent in the lake. But the Abenaki tribe has
- 1:09:04legends of this serpentine creature in Lake Champlain dating back millennia. They called it
- 1:09:13the Guidskog and it was this serpent that ate humans. Now. That's the
- 1:09:24Sandramancy photo, which was taken by the late Sandra Mancy back in nineteen seventy
- 1:09:30seven while her family was driving up to the northern part of the state along
- 1:09:38the lake, the western part of Vermont, and they had stopped to have
- 1:09:45a picnic on the shores of the lake. And I believe it was I
- 1:09:51can't remember the exact town that they were in. I think it was it
- 1:09:56was like south of the town of Charlotte, Ferrisburg, that kind of area
- 1:10:00maybe, And I know they were headed up to Saint Albans and they stopped
- 1:10:05on the lake. Her kids got out, they were like playing along the
- 1:10:08banks of the of the lake, and all of a sudden, this long
- 1:10:15necked creature came out of the water and was kind of coming towards them,
- 1:10:20and they were like. She was like, hey, kids, get out
- 1:10:23of the water, and she ran to the car, grabbed her camera and
- 1:10:27snapped that photo of this thing and sat on it for several years until I
- 1:10:34think it was the mid eighties. That She revealed that she had this photo
- 1:10:41of this lake monster that people call Champ or Champy. I prefer Champ but
- 1:10:47yeah, it's a very interesting Skeptics say that it was probably just a log
- 1:10:55that had a weird branch on it, but I don't know. That kind
- 1:10:58of looks kind of looks like an animal to me. But you know,
- 1:11:01there's theories that it could be something like Nessy that a lot of people think
- 1:11:05is like a relic Pleasia Sore that somehow survived all these years. And Lake
- 1:11:14Champlain does connect eventually to the ocean through the Saint Lawrence Seaway in Quebec,
- 1:11:20so some kind of large ocean animal that lives out there could very well make
- 1:11:26its way into the lake. There's theories that it's also a very large sturgeon
- 1:11:32or even a like a snapping turtle, like an oversized snapping turtle. Snapping
- 1:11:41turtle, yeah, yeah, get big. But their necks don't go out
- 1:11:45like that outside the water. I mean, I mean they thresh, but
- 1:11:48not that far. Yeah. Yeah, that was a little harder. That's
- 1:11:51a that's a little harder of a theory for me to believe. But I've
- 1:11:58never personally scene champ but you know, over the years of living in Vermont
- 1:12:05have heard, you know, stories of people who go out on the lake
- 1:12:11to you know, do whatever and they something brushed up against their boat that
- 1:12:16was like really big, or they saw something poke its head out of the
- 1:12:19water. So you know, it's like Champlain's a pretty a pretty deep lake.
- 1:12:26You know, there's a lot of interesting history behind it. There's shipwrecks,
- 1:12:30there's all sorts of stuff. But it's entirely possible that there's some oversized
- 1:12:35creature that is undocumented living in there, I think. And beyond that with
- 1:12:42other lake monsters in Vermont, like Lake memphorm Agog has a similar creature.
- 1:12:49I'm not terribly familiar. I think it's just kind of a similar thing.
- 1:12:54They call them Memphi. But yeah, yeah, we not only have lake
- 1:13:00monsters, but we also have these large snakes too that I've I've been researching
- 1:13:04and looking into. There are large snakes and tells of these large snakes all
- 1:13:09over the place. And now, of course in Florida we've got the anacondas
- 1:13:13and the pythons and all that kind of stuff. But we're talking about like
- 1:13:15North Carolina and Tennessee, Kentucky Kentucky has a big, gigantic snake, don't
- 1:13:20you don't you have tales of a huge snake? Ye, there are there
- 1:13:25are some tales of large snakes up up in the Ohio River area, Green
- 1:13:32River area. I'm I'm not real familiar with with those stories, but I
- 1:13:42do know that that there are some that come from up that way, and
- 1:13:46you know, just regular you know, like battle snakes and things of that
- 1:13:51nature. There are areas here where they tend to get a little bit larger
- 1:13:59than normal. And I don't know if that's a genetic thing or that they
- 1:14:02just have plenty to eat there, but it's definitely, definitely interesting and definitely
- 1:14:09not my thing. Oh well, I'm not a snake person. Oh yeah,
- 1:14:15Well I just have a pet snake. Okay, That's something that I
- 1:14:17don't talk about often, but I had a pet snake. Don't ask me
- 1:14:20why. It was a horrible pet. I loved him or her, whatever
- 1:14:25it was, but I had it for a long time until it got really
- 1:14:28really big. Okay, So I don't recommend them. And Ryan Tremblaye,
- 1:14:32Ryan's in the chat. Hey Ryan, he said that he saw anaconda the
- 1:14:35movie. That's a big note for him. Now there is another really interesting
- 1:14:40I almost forgot about this one. Jas, I really wanted to ask you
- 1:14:43about this. It's the Lake Terror Okay, and I don't know if I'm
- 1:14:46going to pronounce this right, so I'm gonna pull it up on the screen.
- 1:14:49It's the one with the with a bunch of leg It looks like a
- 1:14:51snake. It looks like a snake with a bunch of legs on it.
- 1:14:56Yeah, mempory Mog, memporhy Mo. Yeah yeah, lake Lake Magog,
- 1:15:02Yeah, Okay, it's another lake. It's like in the center of Vermont
- 1:15:09and the lake goes also into Canada, and I believe there is there's a
- 1:15:15town in Quebec called Magog that boughts up to it. That one is a
- 1:15:19story I'm not as familiar with, but it's it's like a similar thing,
- 1:15:24uh to champ just you know, another type of lake monster. Okay,
- 1:15:30So this one, well, I'm actually oops, I don't mean to keep
- 1:15:32pulling this picture of I keep hitting the wrong button. Sorry. Yeah,
- 1:15:35So it's it looks like a snake, but it has twelve to fifteen pairs
- 1:15:41of legs on it. I mean that just sounds like a centipede, snake
- 1:15:45or something. It sounds really odd, but it said the earliest record of
- 1:15:48this beast it was it dates back to eighteen sixteen when Ralph Mary and his
- 1:15:55wife salt what they described as a creature that was the color of a skinned
- 1:15:58sheep. It had twelve to fifteen pairs of legs, and it was in
- 1:16:04the lake. It was sweet swims too, So I mean that would be
- 1:16:09absolutely pretty scary seeing something like I mean, this was a large creature.
- 1:16:13So I don't know. I mean, I I started having a problem swimming
- 1:16:17in lakes after I did a show on the Japanese Kampa. Okay, so
- 1:16:24that's just I mean every time I jump into the lake, I literally felt
- 1:16:28like somebody was going to grab my feet and jerk me under the water.
- 1:16:30Okay, So so thanks a lot. Show all these shows I do,
- 1:16:33at least research it does make you question because we just don't know what's swimming
- 1:16:39underneath this. Yeah, yeah, it is kind of scary. Thought it
- 1:16:45is scary. It is well, well, we have people like like you,
- 1:16:48Jeff that highlight these wonderful local creatures of legends and more and and so
- 1:16:56yeah, so I really appreciate you coming on tonight and talking to us about
- 1:16:59the crypt of Vermont with us. Well, thanks for having me, this

- 1:17:31these things because it it not only brings life to those but it also uh
- 1:17:42carries the history on and allows other people to learn about things that they may
- 1:17:49not learn about otherwise. That's right, Yeah, exactly, that's right.
- 1:17:57That's right. Well, we got to know what to look out for and
- 1:17:58names scary woods, okay, and then there's lakes, that's the main thing.

- 1:20:06tomorrow night. He is the creator of something called the Immortals, which he
- 1:20:12claims is what Actually it was stolen his playwright, his script was stolen and
- 1:20:17they made the Matrix out of that. So he is the original creator of
- 1:20:21the matrix and we're going to talk about that tomorrow night. On the eve
- 1:20:26of the solar eclipse. Oh my gosh, y'all, Jeff and Mark,
- 1:20:30what do y'all think about this eclipse before we go tonight? Do you think
- 1:20:32this eclipse is going to affect the cryptids out there? Well, I think
- 1:20:38you might maybe maybe. I'm right on the edge of the path of totality,
- 1:20:44and for mot is expecting to have like close to a quarter a million
- 1:20:47people come. So I'm just going to stay home on Monday. I'm thinking
- 1:20:54about keeping my kid home from school that day. It sounds like it's going
- 1:20:57to be a little disty. Schools are going to be closed statewide as far
