- 0:47Don Armstrong: Glad you could join us.
- 0:48Don Armstrong: And if we look a little weird, because uh somebody forgot a little bitty piece of equipment.
- 0:53Don Armstrong: Don't worry about it.
- 0:54Don Armstrong: It's about don't worry about it.
- 0:55Don Armstrong: It's about that big.
- 0:57Don Armstrong: You're familiar with that size.
- 0:59Don Armstrong: That big.
- 1:00Don Armstrong: And uh that thing uh is uh being absconded at the best buy right now, and it should take him about five minutes to get back here, and then we'll be back in order.
- 1:10Don Armstrong: But anyway, it doesn't matter.
- 1:12Jeff Dziekan: It started out a little slow coming in this morning, but it seems to be filling up on the uh south end of the parking lot.
- 1:17Don Armstrong: What are you talking about the car show?
- 1:18Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I'm talking about all the time.
- 1:19Jeff Dziekan: Oh, I'm talking about this.
- 1:20Jeff Dziekan: Oh.
- 1:21Jeff Dziekan: Well, I'm talking about the entire car show start off.
- 1:23Jeff Dziekan: We ain't got that far yet, Jeff.
- 1:24Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 1:25Don Armstrong: You're you're jumping ahead.
- 1:26Don Armstrong: I'm jumping ahead.
- 1:27Don Armstrong: I know.
- 1:27Don Armstrong: Jeff was here at 6 30 this morning.
- 1:31Don Armstrong: What?
- 1:32Don Armstrong: Jeff was here at 6 30.
- 1:33Don Armstrong: This morning.
- 1:36Don Armstrong: So what do we have coming up today?
- 1:40Don Armstrong: Well, uh a full boat of uh lots of different people.
- 1:45Don Armstrong: Uh Carla with the team Gilman folks, and uh she told me she says, Well, there's an influencer here.
- 1:52Don Armstrong: That uh that girl in the pink car, as soon as she gets set up down there, we're gonna have her on because I'd love to talk to an influencer and find out what how how she how does influencing work.
- 2:03Don Armstrong: You got me here, you influenced me to come, so yeah.
- 2:07Don Armstrong: Well, I twisted your arm, and it's not all my fault.
- 2:10Don Armstrong: Unless it goes bad, then it is my fault.
- 2:12Don Armstrong: Yeah, you go.
- 2:12Don Armstrong: I'm familiar with that.
- 2:14Don Armstrong: So we got our regular stuff, but we also got a bonus hour today, three-hour show, and we're gonna tack on the third hour at noon.
- 2:23Don Armstrong: So we're gonna go to one o'clock today with the In Wheel Time Car Talk Show, and we hope that you'll stay with us because it's gonna be fun.
- 2:30Don Armstrong: Um, we're hoping to uh get them folks from the Mazda, the Subaru, and Acura.
- 2:38Don Armstrong: Acura.
- 2:39Don Armstrong: It that that sign's hidden back there.
- 2:41Don Armstrong: But this is a three-dealership complex here, and if you want to know where we are, we are on I-45, the North Freeway in Houston.
- 2:50Don Armstrong: Uh the highway that comes from Houston and goes to Dallas.
- 2:53Don Armstrong: And we're just past FM 1960, which is a huge major thoroughfare up here on the north side of town.
- 3:00Don Armstrong: Anyway, this three dealership threesome.
- 3:05Don Armstrong: Extravaganza.
- 3:06Don Armstrong: Extravaganza is just north of 1960 and uh lots of parking and uh lots of fun.
- 3:13Don Armstrong: I see that Red Bull is here.
- 3:14Don Armstrong: Uh they're bringing out all their stuff.
- 3:16Don Armstrong: You got a big display over here and a bunch of bulls at the at the Subaru dealership.
- 3:21Don Armstrong: Um so you get all of the imports and you get the specialty cars.
- 3:27Don Armstrong: And I'm looking at the specialty car row right now, and there's a red Camaro out there, and you're gonna see them once we get back with our video the way that it's supposed to be.
- 3:36Don Armstrong: There's a red Camaro out there.
- 3:37Don Armstrong: There is a black Corvette, uh C8 Corvette, that's got a lot of horsepower under the hood.
- 3:44Don Armstrong: I didn't talk to the guy, but he opened the hood, which makes me want to look inside the hood.
- 3:48Don Armstrong: Well, I think it's a supercharger that's in there.
- 3:52Don Armstrong: So I'm thinking maybe six, seven hundred horsepower, not sure.
- 3:56Don Armstrong: And uh then next to the old car there, there's another uh C8.
- 4:01Don Armstrong: It's black with a red stripe on it.
- 4:03Don Armstrong: We also have over here, what what is that?
- 4:06Don Armstrong: Is that an Acura?
- 4:08Jeff Dziekan: Looks like an Acura, you've got a Mercedes, you got Lexus, another Corvette.
- 4:12Don Armstrong: So these are the specialty cars that are in front of us.
- 4:14Don Armstrong: And uh most of the imports are on either side.
- 4:18Jeff Dziekan: Square body Mustang there.
- 4:19Don Armstrong: Yeah, old square body Mustang.
- 4:21Don Armstrong: And you got a Buick over here.
- 4:23Don Armstrong: Is there a Burek?
- 4:24Don Armstrong: Oh, there's a great Burec over there.
- 4:26Don Armstrong: I wonder who owns that.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I wonder.
- 4:28Don Armstrong: Probably probably another influencer.
- 4:30Don Armstrong: You mean to tell me that that Gilman owns the Cadillac dealership?
- 4:33Don Armstrong: I'm sure he does.
- 4:34Don Armstrong: Well, there's something about that.
- 4:36Don Armstrong: So big dealership here in town called Team Gilman, and uh they have lots of dealerships.
- 4:43Don Armstrong: Three of them right now.
- 4:44Don Armstrong: Could be a pre-owned.
- 4:45Don Armstrong: It could be, yeah.
- 4:47Don Armstrong: That's a nice looking little car.
- 4:48Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:50Don Armstrong: Um anyway, there's also lots of news that uh I wanted to tell you about today.
- 4:55Don Armstrong: Um one of the things that uh that just jumped out uh the automotive news yesterday, as a matter of fact, and I'll read it to you now, and we can have a little discussion about it.
- 5:05Don Armstrong: Texas dealers are voicing strong objections to the State Department of Motor Vehicles expanded photo identification requirements for vehicle registrations.
- 5:15Don Armstrong: You got to have a photo ID.
- 5:16Don Armstrong: You do?
- 5:17Don Armstrong: Your driver's life.
- 5:18unknown: Yeah.
- 5:19Don Armstrong: The agency said the change will curb fraud and prevent undocumented residents from driving in the state.
- 5:26Don Armstrong: But vehicle sales will decline and loan delinquencies will increase at dealerships that serve primarily immigrant and low-income car buyers, according to Texas dealers.
- 5:38Don Armstrong: Under the new rules, car buyers face a slew of changes about what photo ID they can use to register their vehicle.
- 5:45Don Armstrong: Dealers must now confirm the validity of the identification used before submitting registration paperwork.
- 5:52Don Armstrong: New car buyers now must use a real ID, that's the thing with the star on your on your driver's license, or bring along their birth certificate, no problem with forging that at all, or citizenship documents to register the vehicle.
- 6:08Don Armstrong: Previously, any driver's license issued by any state or territory of the United States sufficed, according to the Texas DMV.
- 6:16Don Armstrong: The agency has accepted passports or a driver's license expired in the past year.
- 6:23Don Armstrong: Now those IDs have to be current.
- 6:26Don Armstrong: You can't have an expired driver's license.
- 6:27Don Armstrong: No.
- 6:28Don Armstrong: Texas dealers, like those in other states, handled the titling and registration process for their customers.
- 6:33Don Armstrong: They said the rule changes will hurt sales and increase their responsibilities.
- 6:38Don Armstrong: Well, increase the responsibilities I get, but I don't know about hurting sales.
- 6:45Speaker 4: Can I add to that?
- 6:46Speaker 4: Yes, please.
- 6:47Speaker 4: So I handle 16 vehicles for my work.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Yes.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I now cannot register online to update the registrations every year.
- 6:56Speaker 4: I have to go to the place.
- 6:58Speaker 4: I used to be able to do it within minutes online.
- 7:00Speaker 4: You have to go to Texas DMV or I have to go down there each time.
- 7:04Speaker 4: So wait in line, you know, all that.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Can you take all sixteen?
- 7:08Don Armstrong: Can you take all sixteen?
- 7:10Speaker 4: No.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Because they they come in at different months.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Different times of time.
- 7:13Speaker 4: So now instead of doing it online, it's in person.
- 7:17Speaker 4: Lucky.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Much worse.
- 7:21Speaker 4: You need an assistant.
- 7:22Speaker 4: They've gone back.
- 7:22Speaker 4: You need an assistant.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I'll do that for you.
- 7:25Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Will you pay me?
- 7:26Speaker 4: No.
- 7:27Don Armstrong: That's what I'm figuring.
- 7:28Don Armstrong: Carmax is going to pay nearly $500,000 in restitution and penalties to settle allegations by the U.S.
- 7:38Don Armstrong: Department of Justice that improperly repossessed 28 service members' vehicles.
- 7:44Jeff Dziekan: Uh-oh.
- 7:46Don Armstrong: U.S.
- 7:46Don Armstrong: alleged that the large national used car dealership group didn't require staff to check the defense manpower data center database to see if a delinquent borrower was a soldier or prohibit staff from repossessing vehicles from reservists who had been called up.
- 8:05Don Armstrong: That's ridiculous.
- 8:06Don Armstrong: The settlement required CarMax to pay $420,000 into a fund to compensate service members for repossession violations and add more funds if needed.
- 8:17Don Armstrong: So shame on you.
- 8:25Don Armstrong: Yeah, it's terrible.
- 8:26Don Armstrong: Well, but who who is to know?
- 8:29Don Armstrong: I mean, you know, you would have to have, of course, I'm sure that they do have full time.
- 8:33Don Armstrong: You'd have to have full-time lawyers, attorneys, and people looking for this stuff.
- 8:38Don Armstrong: Because you know the government is really bad about changing the laws and then not telling anybody, oh, well, you're out of compliance, sir.
- 8:45Don Armstrong: You're gonna you're gonna be fined $50,000.
- 8:48Jeff Dziekan: But you think if you're a a high-end finance company, you would understand and know But how I guess Because when you get a loan, yeah, what do you do for a living?
- 8:57Jeff Dziekan: I'm an electrician, I'm in the army, I'm in the navy, I'm this, that, or the other.
- 9:01Jeff Dziekan: So they know going into it by getting a loan.
- 9:04Jeff Dziekan: So I think there should be closer watch on them.
- 9:08Jeff Dziekan: I'm just saying it's not right.
- 9:11Don Armstrong: Well, if I'm a dealer, I'm gonna have to designate somebody to read over all of those legal documents.
- 9:18Jeff Dziekan: Now, if you go to a town that is heavily in the military, like the for instance, Clean or San Diego, there are dealerships, and I know this because I work with several of them, there are dealerships that actually cater to the military, the service members, so that they can give them better rates.
- 9:35Jeff Dziekan: They know that they're going to be deployed at some point or another.
- 9:37Jeff Dziekan: And they put them in a car that fits their family that they can afford.
- 9:41Jeff Dziekan: Now, if they're doing that in the beginning, they should know they're going to be in the military and maybe deployed.
- 9:46Jeff Dziekan: That's a good point.
- 9:46Jeff Dziekan: So you know, they they actually cater to the military.
- 9:49Jeff Dziekan: Like Colleen.
- 9:49Jeff Dziekan: Colleen's an example because I'm worked there several times.
- 9:53Jeff Dziekan: I just think it's wrong.
- 9:54Jeff Dziekan: That's it's a black eye on the dealer.
- 9:56Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 9:57Jeff Dziekan: CarMax.
- 9:59Don Armstrong: Shame on them.
- 10:00Don Armstrong: Shame on you.
- 10:01Don Armstrong: Well, I think that their car sales have gone down because you know they've got a lot more competition.
- 10:04Don Armstrong: And apparently Carvana, who I bashed when they first came out, you remember back in the day they all had the vending machines.
- 10:13Don Armstrong: Right.
- 10:13Don Armstrong: I don't know of any vending machines left anymore, do you?
- 10:16Don Armstrong: Are they still around?
- 10:17Don Armstrong: Maybe one or two round.
- 10:18Don Armstrong: I don't know if they're here.
- 10:19Don Armstrong: I think that they got wise and said, you know what, we're spending a half a million dollars on these vending machines for what?
- 10:25Don Armstrong: Doesn't make any sense.
- 10:26Don Armstrong: A lot of people, especially uh generations that are younger than us.
- 10:31Don Armstrong: But they do the stuff online anyway.
- 10:34Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:34Don Armstrong: And most people not most people, I will say that a lot of people go online to buy their cars.
- 10:39Jeff Dziekan: And rightly so.
- 10:40Jeff Dziekan: I mean, I understand.
- 10:41Jeff Dziekan: Well, there's other issues with Carvana because there's things that we reported on a while ago that you have to go through their financing, you had to go through certain hoops that they want you to jump through for them in order to get the car delivered.
- 10:53Jeff Dziekan: Well, I think with this new CEO, I think that they've changed a lot of it.
- 10:56Don Armstrong: Could be, okay, and I think that uh their car sales have increased.
- 10:59Don Armstrong: I know their locations have.
- 11:01Don Armstrong: They're even into new car dealerships now.
- 11:04Don Armstrong: I noticed that they have uh purchased several car dealerships around the United States, and I think that that will probably continue.
- 11:10Jeff Dziekan: And they're they've got a lot of they're heavy on the advertising and the marketing on TV.
- 11:14Jeff Dziekan: You know, you see all these celebrities saying they're gonna get their car delivered and the commercials, just the marketing stuff.
- 11:20Don Armstrong: Sure.
- 11:20Don Armstrong: You know, I think that you need something like that, Jeff.
- 11:25Don Armstrong: Me?
- 11:26Jeff Dziekan: No.
- 11:26Jeff Dziekan: No, no, no.
- 11:26Jeff Dziekan: Uh you know, uh uh a rice rocket.
- 11:28Jeff Dziekan: Um I'm we're uh I need six wheels, not four.
- 11:32Jeff Dziekan: Do you?
- 11:32Jeff Dziekan: I had a I had a buy a tire this week.
- 11:35Jeff Dziekan: I had a flat tire.
- 11:36Jeff Dziekan: You really?
- 11:36Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 11:37Jeff Dziekan: It was a chunk of some electrical company probably was in front of me.
- 11:43Jeff Dziekan: It was a about three inches long, white, sharp, looked like a fastener of some sort.
- 11:48Jeff Dziekan: Right in the middle of the tire, about bigger round as your finger.
- 11:52Jeff Dziekan: And luckily I was getting off the freeway when all the gauges were coming on, all the warning lights, and I ended up with a flat tire right in front of a discount tire.
- 12:00Jeff Dziekan: Seriously.
- 12:00Jeff Dziekan: Only you.
- 12:02Jeff Dziekan: So you know, about 250 bucks later, I get one tire.
- 12:08Don Armstrong: Did you the same same make and model tire?
- 12:11Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:12unknown: Yeah.
- 12:12Jeff Dziekan: Really, they had it in stock.
- 12:13Jeff Dziekan: They had it in stock, believe it or not.
- 12:15Jeff Dziekan: Uh the TPC, the tire performance criteria number, is for that vehicle, but it it's not the you know, it's a different compound.
- 12:23Jeff Dziekan: It's a continental, it's a good, you know, it's the same thing.
- 12:25Jeff Dziekan: Did you put it on the back?
- 12:27Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, well, it was the right rear is what went out, so it had to be a good one.
- 12:30Jeff Dziekan: Really?
- 12:32Don Armstrong: Not the front.
- 12:32Don Armstrong: That's weird.
- 12:33Don Armstrong: You probably were sliding around a corner sideways as well.
- 12:36Jeff Dziekan: I was doing about eight around the corner.
- 12:40Don Armstrong: Eight around the corner.
- 12:41Jeff Dziekan: No, I was actually on the freeway, coming off the freeway.
- 12:43Don Armstrong: Weird.
- 12:44Don Armstrong: There's a lot of stuff on the freeway.
- 12:45Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, there is, and of course I found it.
- 12:47Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 12:48Don Armstrong: No doubt about it.
- 12:49Don Armstrong: Um, you know, they've got food vendors here.
- 12:52Jeff Dziekan: I see they're they're setting stuff up.
- 12:54Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 12:54Don Armstrong: And I'm thinking lunch.
- 12:56Don Armstrong: What do you think?
- 12:58Jeff Dziekan: Oh, I I've got to leave to go have lunch.
- 13:01Don Armstrong: Oh, you're leaving early today.
- 13:02Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:04Jeff Dziekan: In about five minutes.
- 13:05Jeff Dziekan: No, you're not.
- 13:06Jeff Dziekan: No, you're not leaving that early.
- 13:08Jeff Dziekan: No, I just won't be here.
- 13:09Jeff Dziekan: I'll be here to the end of the show.
- 13:11Jeff Dziekan: It's just I won't be participating in the the uh fun of packing up.
- 13:15Don Armstrong: And you know, one of the things that I asked David, Ainsley, I said, David, why did you bring the truck, the work truck today?
- 13:21Don Armstrong: Why didn't you bring the nice cars?
- 13:24Don Armstrong: And this would be a perfect event for you.
- 13:26Don Armstrong: If you pull your microphone up, we could hear you.
- 13:28Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 13:29Don Armstrong: Um, so what's the deal with the infinity?
- 13:32Speaker 4: You could have brought the right-hand drive vehicle.
- 13:33Speaker 4: I I need new brakes.
- 13:35Speaker 4: I've got metal to metal right now.
- 13:37Jeff Dziekan: Ah, it's never stopped you before.
- 13:38Jeff Dziekan: What do you think?
- 13:39Jeff Dziekan: You're gonna go out there and change them yourself?
- 13:41Jeff Dziekan: Oh yeah.
- 13:42Jeff Dziekan: Well, there's three dealerships here.
- 13:44Jeff Dziekan: You can roll it into one of them, had it done like that.
- 13:46Jeff Dziekan: I I want it done right now.
- 13:50Don Armstrong: Well, these guys do it right, don't they, David?
- 13:54Speaker 4: They do it right here, yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 4: But I'm having infinity, so they probably don't do that.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Oh, you got specialty washers and stuff.
- 14:00Don Armstrong: Do you do you have uh do you have pads for it?
- 14:04Speaker 4: There's a place that sells infinity parts, OEM parts online.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Have you ordered them?
- 14:09Speaker 4: Are they sitting in the box in the garage?
- 14:11Don Armstrong: No.
- 14:12Don Armstrong: No.
- 14:12Don Armstrong: How much are those parts, David?
- 14:15Speaker 4: About five, six hundred dollars for all rotors and pads.
- 14:20Don Armstrong: Oh, so you buy rotors as well.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Yeah, they've got their worth.
- 14:24Speaker 4: I've had them turn before.
- 14:25Jeff Dziekan: You guys are they have different different like good better best on the pads?
- 14:29Jeff Dziekan: You got like a maxi pad and all that.
- 14:32Speaker 4: A maxi pad.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Are the big thick ones?
- 14:34Speaker 4: The big thick maxi pad.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Those really better best in the quality of it.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you get the uh ceramics.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Yeah, and they're really expensive.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Slotted.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Why?
- 14:47Speaker 4: You you don't drive the car like that.
- 14:49Don Armstrong: You don't need that.
- 14:50Don Armstrong: Why would you buy the ceramics?
- 14:53Speaker 4: No, I I'm not.
- 14:54Speaker 4: No, no, no, you get the it'd be about two thousand dollars.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I was gonna say if I got slotted and drilled and all that.
- 15:01Speaker 4: You don't need all that unless you race the car.
- 15:03Speaker 4: What do you mean?
- 15:03Speaker 4: Bring it over.
- 15:04Jeff Dziekan: I got a drill.
- 15:06Don Armstrong: That's right.
- 15:07Don Armstrong: Everybody's got drills.
- 15:08Don Armstrong: All right.
- 15:09Don Armstrong: So we're gonna take a quick break.
- 15:11Don Armstrong: And uh when we come back, no.
- 15:14unknown: Who's gonna play the break?
- 15:15Don Armstrong: What?
- 15:15Speaker 4: Who's gonna play the break?
- 15:17Speaker 4: Oh.
- 15:19Don Armstrong: Oh, he can't we can't play the break.
- 15:21Speaker 4: You know how to do it?
- 15:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Main either.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Oh, wait, yeah, hold on.
- 15:25Don Armstrong: He does here goes Jeff.
- 15:27Don Armstrong: So we're having to do this in a roundabout kind of way.
- 15:31Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 15:31Don Armstrong: Mars was supposed to be back 15 minutes ago, but that didn't happen.
- 15:35Don Armstrong: Uh, anyway, so Jeff is gonna sneak around over here.
- 15:39Don Armstrong: So you're not gonna he's gonna bend down, see all you can see is his head.
- 15:43Don Armstrong: Put your head in there, Jeff.
- 15:45Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 15:46Don Armstrong: So then he's gonna play the commercial.

- 17:59Don Armstrong: Time now for Jeff's Motor Minute.
- 18:01Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, I've got several, but I'm going to pick one that's near and here with me.
- 18:04Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 18:05Jeff Dziekan: Engine ticking issues now linked to several GM models.
- 18:10Jeff Dziekan: Now, what models are those?
- 18:11Jeff Dziekan: Well, let me tell you.
- 18:12Jeff Dziekan: General Motors has updated a service bulletin, which addresses an engine ticking noise caused by a manufacturing defect.
- 18:18Jeff Dziekan: The revision of this manufacture bulletin uh is is a revision of it, and it includes more than the 25 and 26 models equipped with a 2.0 liter inline LSY turbocharge engine.
- 18:32Jeff Dziekan: Here's the kicker.
- 18:34Jeff Dziekan: This means that of the owners of the Buick Envision, me, Chevrolet Blazor, Cadillac C T four, C T five, XT4, XT5, and XT6 may now be affected by this issue.
- 18:48Jeff Dziekan: So you may be affected by I may be affected by this.
- 18:51Jeff Dziekan: So I'm gonna put some ointment on it.
- 18:53Jeff Dziekan: However, the ticking noise is infected.
- 18:55Jeff Dziekan: Oh, okay.
- 18:55Jeff Dziekan: Just off that.
- 18:56Jeff Dziekan: Oh, it's a typo.
- 18:57Jeff Dziekan: However, the ticking noise is not necessarily an engine design issue, but the rather the result of a manufacturing defect is also a service bulletin, meaning that sent by GM, sent to GM dealers rather than directly to the owners would be typically what the recall would be about.
- 19:13Jeff Dziekan: So what's happening?
- 19:14Jeff Dziekan: The issue stems from manufacturing debris entering the hydraulic valve lash adjuster, preventing the component from pumping oil properly and resulting in a soft adjuster.
- 19:24Jeff Dziekan: Without proper hydraulic pressure, the affected engines may produce a ticking noise.
- 19:28Jeff Dziekan: Tick, tick, tick.
- 19:29Jeff Dziekan: Uh dealers are instructed to use a stethoscope, of course, and other methods to inspect the valve train first.
- 19:36Jeff Dziekan: You sure that's all they're using that stethoscope?
- 19:38Jeff Dziekan: The stethoscope, or I don't know.
- 19:42Jeff Dziekan: I don't know if my my insurance has covered that.
- 19:46Jeff Dziekan: So, anyways, it's the two two-liter, two point five liter.
- 19:50Jeff Dziekan: It's uh it can't be good, but I don't have an experience yet, but ever since I read this this past week, I'm listening to it.
- 19:57Jeff Dziekan: You listened for sound.
- 19:58Jeff Dziekan: Like a time bomb.
- 20:00Jeff Dziekan: Exactly.
- 20:01Don Armstrong: So what are they gonna do?
- 20:02Don Armstrong: They're gonna replace the whole motor?
- 20:04Jeff Dziekan: No, they're gonna go, there's gonna be a replacement of the valve lash system, they're gonna flush it out and all that, but they don't know yet because they haven't really uh done it.
- 20:11Jeff Dziekan: Oh my god, how many how many cars are affected?
- 20:13Jeff Dziekan: Uh well the 20 2025 and 2026 models.
- 20:16Jeff Dziekan: So of all of those.
- 20:18Don Armstrong: A million of them.
- 20:18Jeff Dziekan: Uh it could be.
- 20:19Jeff Dziekan: Uh but there's no specific VIN range because it's like random.
- 20:22Jeff Dziekan: It's random right now.
- 20:23Jeff Dziekan: Oh my god.
- 20:24Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:25Jeff Dziekan: So there you go.
- 20:26Jeff Dziekan: Keep an eye out.
- 20:27Jeff Dziekan: Well, ain't that fun?
- 20:28Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 20:30Don Armstrong: What do you do?
- 20:32Don Armstrong: All right.
- 20:33Don Armstrong: Here's what I do: a review of the 2026 Lexus NX.
- 20:38Don Armstrong: It comes in so many different trim levels.
- 20:42Don Armstrong: Let me start.
- 20:42Don Armstrong: 350H, 350, 350H premium, 350 premium, 358 luxury, and the list goes on and on.
- 20:52Don Armstrong: I'm not going to bore you with all that.
- 20:53Don Armstrong: I had the 450H Plus luxury all-wheel drive.
- 20:59Don Armstrong: This is considered a small SUV.
- 21:01Don Armstrong: I would consider it a small SUV.
- 21:04Don Armstrong: Uh, five seats.
- 21:05Don Armstrong: I'm sorry?
- 21:07Don Armstrong: No, the Lexus.
- 21:10Don Armstrong: Um new in uh 2022.
- 21:14Don Armstrong: Exterior features, attractively curvy body lines.
- 21:19Don Armstrong: I'm talking about the car now, so you get your mind out of the gutter, with signature spindle grill, different wheels and grills for different trims.
- 21:27Don Armstrong: The tail has brake cooling ducts back there.
- 21:32Don Armstrong: Does it need it?
- 21:32Don Armstrong: No, but it looks really cool.
- 21:34Don Armstrong: They're fake anyway, but it looks good.
- 21:37Don Armstrong: Um the C pillar adds a fast back, attractive touch to the design.
- 21:43Don Armstrong: What I liked about it, the overall design gets high marks, in my opinion.
- 21:46Don Armstrong: What could use improvement?
- 21:47Don Armstrong: I don't think anything.
- 21:48Don Armstrong: It really is a good looking vehicle.
- 21:50Don Armstrong: Interior highlights, a center screen designed into the dash layout.
- 21:56Don Armstrong: It's nice, and uh it looks really good.
- 21:59Don Armstrong: Comfortable seating with lots of adjustments.
- 22:03Don Armstrong: Leg room for the second row passengers is adequate, which is different for a small SUV.
- 22:10Don Armstrong: Overall, fit-finish design, excellent.
- 22:13Don Armstrong: Trunk room, cargo room, adequate for this small SUV, especially with the second row down.
- 22:19Don Armstrong: What I liked about it, that 14-inch center screen.
- 22:22Don Armstrong: What could use improvement?
- 22:25Don Armstrong: The steering wheel multi-function buttons disappear when you're trying to use them.
- 22:30Don Armstrong: It's frustrating.
- 22:31Don Armstrong: So if you don't, if you're not using it, the display that tells you what it is that you're moving your cursor to disappears too quick.
- 22:41Don Armstrong: Going, dang it, where was I?
- 22:44Don Armstrong: So it comes with a 2.5 liter plug-in.
- 22:48Don Armstrong: This is a plug-in hybrid electric.
- 22:50Don Armstrong: Now I did not plug it in.
- 22:53Don Armstrong: Okay?
- 22:53Don Armstrong: I'm guilty, I'll I'll admit that.
- 22:56Don Armstrong: But that's a pain.
- 22:57Don Armstrong: If it's got a gasoline motor in it, I'm not plugging it in.
- 23:01Don Armstrong: Because it's a pain.
- 23:02Don Armstrong: I don't have the setup at the house for net horsepower, 304 combined to plug-in and the engine as well.
- 23:12Don Armstrong: So if you use both, 304 horsepower.
- 23:14Don Armstrong: Torque, plenty.
- 23:16Don Armstrong: Has a CVT transmission.
- 23:18Don Armstrong: Till rating, one ton.
- 23:20Don Armstrong: Would you subject your car to towing something?
- 23:25Don Armstrong: I I wouldn't.
- 23:26Don Armstrong: Apparently that other car show let out because it is nothing but cars all coming in here.
- 23:32Don Armstrong: It's crazy.
- 23:33Don Armstrong: There's some uh WRX STIs.
- 23:36Don Armstrong: Yep, do.
- 23:39Don Armstrong: Yeah, 10 bucks to pass by the in-wheel time booth.
- 23:42Don Armstrong: Wish you could see it.
- 23:43Don Armstrong: Sorry you can't.
- 23:43Don Armstrong: Um miles per gallon, 34 with the gas.
- 23:49Don Armstrong: 84 with the gas plus electric plug-in aspect of it.
- 23:54Don Armstrong: 84.
- 23:55Don Armstrong: I got 33.4 because I didn't plug it in.
- 23:59Don Armstrong: Uh over 103.6 miles.
- 24:01Don Armstrong: Don, you only drove the thing 103 miles?
- 24:03Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 24:04Don Armstrong: I only drove it 103 miles because that particular week I had two cars, and uh I kind of split the difference between the two cars.
- 24:12Don Armstrong: What are you doing with two cars?
- 24:14Don Armstrong: Don't ask me.
- 24:14Don Armstrong: Don't get me started.
- 24:15Don Armstrong: What I liked, the mileage.
- 24:17Don Armstrong: Wish I'd taken the time to plug it in, though.
- 24:20Don Armstrong: I made a note of that.
- 24:22Don Armstrong: You know, they do they get out of the way when Mars shows up with the in-wheel time truck?
- 24:28Don Armstrong: Uh what could use improvement?
- 24:30Don Armstrong: Uh a non-plug-in would be great, but it would be more expensive.
- 24:36Don Armstrong: Uh what I liked about it, riding handling, top-of-the-line luxury.
- 24:40Don Armstrong: And what could use improvement?
- 24:42Don Armstrong: An F Sport is available.
- 24:45Don Armstrong: So that would give you a little bit more zip, some more vinegar, as they like to say.
- 24:50Jeff Dziekan: Ah, Vim and vinegar.
- 24:51Don Armstrong: Vim and vinegar.
- 24:53Don Armstrong: Vim, is that a word?
- 24:54Don Armstrong: Vim, well, my mother used to lose that all the time.
- 24:57Don Armstrong: Um, okay, so let's talk about pricing.
- 24:59Don Armstrong: Base trim price, $61,740.
- 25:03Don Armstrong: Price is tested, $67,289.
- 25:07Don Armstrong: That counts me out.
- 25:08Don Armstrong: It's a little bit too expensive to me.
- 25:10Don Armstrong: Now you can get in an NX starting at 44,775.
- 25:14Don Armstrong: I think I'd look down at the lower level.
- 25:16Don Armstrong: That's just me.
- 25:16Don Armstrong: Competitors, Mercedes-Benz X3, the Acura RDX, and the Genesis G V70.
- 25:27Don Armstrong: I got another car review, going to do that in the last hour of the show this morning.
- 25:32Don Armstrong: And um next week I'll review the Ram 1500.
- 25:38Don Armstrong: Oh yeah.
- 25:38Don Armstrong: Oh my god, was that thing nice?
- 25:40Don Armstrong: Jeez.
- 25:41Don Armstrong: Expensive, but nice.
- 25:43Don Armstrong: I mean expensive.
- 25:45Don Armstrong: I think it was like $87,000, David.
- 25:48Don Armstrong: You need it.
- 25:49Don Armstrong: It was the Ram 1500 longhorn.
- 25:55Don Armstrong: It had the etched leather.
- 25:59Don Armstrong: I mean, it's got bells and whistles on it that I I still was finding stuff.
- 26:06Don Armstrong: It's worth it.
- 26:06Don Armstrong: Yeah, well, it is.
- 26:08Don Armstrong: And if you if you've got the dough, go for it, baby.
- 26:12Don Armstrong: That's what I say.
- 26:14Don Armstrong: Um Jeff is standing by over at the computer screen that we're broadcasting this show from, and he's ready to punch the button to go to a commercial break.
- 26:25Don Armstrong: Um because we don't really have anything else.
- 26:29Don Armstrong: Actually, I have plenty of stuff, but I've got to kind of space it out a little bit.
- 26:36Don Armstrong: Because I don't want to blow it all at one fell swoop here.
- 26:40Don Armstrong: I will tell you what, you know, this is a different kind of car show for me personally.
- 26:46Don Armstrong: Because it's interesting, you know, back in my day when I was hanging with the hot rod boys and we go down to the d drag strip, we drove basically mom's car, unless one of us had some sort of hot rod.
- 27:01Don Armstrong: My buddy Ross did.
- 27:02Don Armstrong: He had the 55 that was open exhaust and it was set for the drag strip, and you couldn't really drive it too too much on the street.
- 27:10Don Armstrong: Now, these cars are all street ready.
- 27:15Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 27:15Don Armstrong: And uh this is the high school college barge, as well I would imagine.
- 27:21Don Armstrong: Marla, come and sit down.
- 27:23Don Armstrong: We want to talk to you.
- 27:24Don Armstrong: You don't have time?
- 27:25Don Armstrong: Okay, well, bring them on.
- 27:28Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 27:33Don Armstrong: All right.
- 27:34Don Armstrong: Okay, so apparently he's found the device.
- 27:41Don Armstrong: Anyway, uh, this is all behind the scenes stuff, but I'll give you an idea.
- 27:45Don Armstrong: So Mr.
- 27:46Don Armstrong: Mars has taken thirty minutes to go and find some sort of a little device that we can get our video working properly.
- 27:54Jeff Dziekan: That's what the aliens put into you when they kidnap you.
- 27:57Jeff Dziekan: Really?
- 27:58Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, little little devices like that.
- 28:00Jeff Dziekan: Is that is that why I got why I've got that going on?
- 28:03Jeff Dziekan: Exactly.
- 28:06Don Armstrong: So we are going to deal with that in just a minute.
- 28:08Don Armstrong: So why don't we take a quick break and we're going to regather our thoughts, and we'll be back in about a minute and a half.
- 28:13Don Armstrong: And if you'd like to get in touch with us, we don't know why, but send us an email.
- 28:18Don Armstrong: The email address is info at inwheeltime.com.
- 28:22Don Armstrong: We'll be back right after this quick break.
- 28:25Don Armstrong: Stay with us.
- 28:26Don Armstrong: The Easter Bunny's coming.
- 28:29Don Armstrong: To the tailpipes and tacos cruise in at the Loopy Tortilla Text Max in Katie, April 4th, 8 to 11 a.m.
- 28:35Don Armstrong: And you're invited to.
- 28:37Don Armstrong: Bring the kids and grandkids.
- 28:38Don Armstrong: It's a cruise in like you've never attended before.
- 28:41Don Armstrong: With a donation to Shirley's Kids, you'll get a free Loopy Tortilla breakfast taco.
- 28:44Don Armstrong: There'll be coffee and adult beverages, plus chili pepper trophies for the best hot rod, best modern classic, and best classic.
- 28:51Don Armstrong: There's no entry fee and no registration.
- 28:52Don Armstrong: Just bring your ride and the kids.
- 28:55Don Armstrong: Bad bunnies aren't allowed, but the Easter bunny will be there, and he'll be full of joy to help make this tailpipes and tacos a very special one.
- 29:02Don Armstrong: Photo opportunities abound.
- 29:03Don Armstrong: The Unwell Time Car Talk Show will be streaming around the globe, and you can be selected to tell your car story to a global audience.
- 29:09Don Armstrong: It's the Tail Pipes and Tacos Cruise and Easter edition, Saturday, April 4th, 8 to 11 a.m.
- 29:14Don Armstrong: at the Lupi Torchilla Tex Max in Katy, located on 99, the Grand Parkway, just south of I-10, the Katie Freeway, in Katy.
- 29:21Don Armstrong: Make plans now.
- 29:22Don Armstrong: Loopy Torchia is pretty good.
- 29:27Speaker 9: Houston, get a ready, Sink Hilman is hosting a medical car meet at the North Complex after a lost Subaru.
- 29:36Speaker 9: We're collaborating with the Car Meet Network, so you know it's gonna be crazy.
- 29:41Speaker 8: And that's not enough.
- 29:42Speaker 8: We're gonna be wrestling up six cars to be sold at a thousand dollars each.
- 29:45Speaker 8: See below for more details.
- 29:50Speaker 7: You're not gonna want to miss this Houston March 14th.
- 29:53Speaker 7: We can't wait to see you here.
- 30:10Don Armstrong: Just ahead, we immerse ourselves into the specialty cars from Mazda, Subaru, and Acura, and all the cruising competitors here today.
- 30:18Don Armstrong: All right.
- 30:18Don Armstrong: Uh in Jeff's car culture, the best seven gas station hot dogs in America.
- 30:23Don Armstrong: You know what?
- 30:23Don Armstrong: If you didn't tune in for anything else, this is what you tune for.
- 30:28Jeff Dziekan: You're going on a road trip, you got spring breaks for the next three, four weeks, whatever it is.
- 30:32Jeff Dziekan: You've got summertime coming up.
- 30:34Jeff Dziekan: You're going on vacation.
- 30:35Jeff Dziekan: You're going somewhere, you're stopping for gas, and you're getting something to eat, and here they are.
- 30:41Jeff Dziekan: That's what it's gonna be.
- 30:42Don Armstrong: Do you eat hot dogs?
- 30:43Jeff Dziekan: Uh I th I was thinking about having one maybe this week.
- 30:46Don Armstrong: I'm thinking about having one today.
- 30:48Don Armstrong: Well, that they got them here.
- 30:50Don Armstrong: Yeah, they got a lot of stuff out there.
- 30:52Jeff Dziekan: It could happen.
- 30:52Jeff Dziekan: I've been I've been eating for the five.
- 30:54Don Armstrong: But you know what?
- 30:54Don Armstrong: There's something special about gas station hot dogs.
- 30:58Jeff Dziekan: And sushi.
- 30:58Jeff Dziekan: Gas station sushi's good too.
- 31:00Don Armstrong: You know what?
- 31:00Don Armstrong: I think I'm gonna pass on that, but I will go for the uh I will go for the hot dogs with the gas stores.
- 31:06Jeff Dziekan: Oh, there's several.
- 31:06Don Armstrong: And some of them have been on that roller thing for at least a couple of days.
- 31:10Don Armstrong: Somehow that doesn't surprise me.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:17Don Armstrong: Anyway, uh looking forward to that, along with Mars, who has seven most underrated car tracks in America.
- 31:25Don Armstrong: Howdy?
- 31:26Don Armstrong: Along with the disappearing mic out of this world, Mars.
- 31:30Don Armstrong: We always need more Jeb Zeke and Chief Engineer David Ainsley.
- 31:34Don Armstrong: I'm Don Armstrong.
- 31:35Don Armstrong: Glad that you could join us today.
- 31:36Don Armstrong: So uh what are you guys, what are you doing back here?
- 31:39Don Armstrong: You're gonna fix it?
- 31:41Don Armstrong: You know what?
- 31:45Don Armstrong: We we've never had this kind of relationship before.
- 31:48Don Armstrong: Easy tiger.
- 31:49Don Armstrong: But uh Mars just put his arms around me.
- 31:52Don Armstrong: I know.
- 31:53Don Armstrong: Because apparently he's full of joy and other things, but joy mainly.
- 31:58Mike Marrs: It's called adrenaline.
- 31:59Don Armstrong: Is that what it is?
- 32:00Jeff Dziekan: Are your eyes brown?
- 32:01Jeff Dziekan: Because you're full of it up to here?
- 32:03Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 32:03Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 32:04Don Armstrong: Mars, did you find the piece of equipment we were looking for?
- 32:07Don Armstrong: Well, we hope.
- 32:08Don Armstrong: Well, how come we don't know that yet?
- 32:10Don Armstrong: Well, we're gonna work in on it.
- 32:12Don Armstrong: So uh uh we know these guys are sticking around.
- 32:14Don Armstrong: Where's Marla?
- 32:15Don Armstrong: She had a guest for us.
- 32:16Jeff Dziekan: It might be one of them before, but let's get this organized here real quick.
- 32:19Don Armstrong: Well, uh no, we I need I need to do something.
- 32:23Don Armstrong: All right.
- 32:23Don Armstrong: So uh where's Marla?
- 32:25Don Armstrong: I know.
- 32:26Don Armstrong: Are you supposed to be our guest?
- 32:28Don Armstrong: You don't what yes sir?
- 32:30Don Armstrong: Well, sit down and we'll and I'll just find out who you are.
- 32:34Don Armstrong: Okay, and um and I'll welcome you to the uh the penitentiary here at the NWL Time Show.
- 32:42Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 32:43Jeff Dziekan: Keep the microphone.
- 32:44Don Armstrong: No, that's got to go on top of your head and the microphone in front of your okay.
- 32:49Speaker 2: Right there.
- 32:50Don Armstrong: That's perfect, yeah.
- 32:51Speaker 5: Could be.
- 32:51Speaker 5: And who are you?
- 32:52Speaker 2: My name is Sam Medina.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I'm with uh Sam Medina.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Yes, sir, with Shaking Auto Club.
- 32:56Speaker 5: Shake and Auto Club.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 32:58Speaker 5: Tell me about that.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Uh Shake and Auto Club was started back in 2024.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Um, my brother had a car club out in Sugarland.
- 33:09Speaker 2: Um he died November 15th of uh pancreatic cancer just out of the b out of the blue.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Um before he had passed, he stated that he wanted me to continue his legacy and give back to the kids.
- 33:23Speaker 2: I didn't know if he meant my kids or all kids in general.
- 33:26Speaker 2: So after he passed away, I went out and bought a Corvette in honor of him and started uh Shake and Auto Club in order to give back to the cancer patients, which are kids.
- 33:41Speaker 2: Um my sister right now uh is battling cancer also.
- 33:45Speaker 2: So everything the Shake and Auto Club does is a nonprofit in order to give back to cancer patients.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Is your car out here?
- 33:54Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 33:54Speaker 2: They're actually right over there on that side.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I have two Corvettes.
- 33:57Speaker 2: I got a green Corvette and a blue Corvette.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Yours?
- 34:00Speaker 2: Uh 2026 and a 2022.
- 34:03Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 34:03Don Armstrong: So the 2022 would be a C7?
- 34:07Speaker 2: It's a uh no, it's a C8.
- 34:09Speaker 2: It's a C A.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Yes, sir, and the 2026 is a C8 also.
- 34:12Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 34:13Don Armstrong: Well, that's my uh 25-year-old black Corvette sitting out there, the C5.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I see it, I love it.
- 34:18Speaker 2: There you go.
- 34:18Speaker 2: It's old it's old school.
- 34:20Speaker 2: It's old school, but it's still beautiful.
- 34:22Don Armstrong: Thank you.
- 34:22Don Armstrong: I appreciate that.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Beautiful.
- 34:24Don Armstrong: So what'd you say?
- 34:26Jeff Dziekan: Old school.
- 34:27Jeff Dziekan: Never mind.
- 34:29Jeff Dziekan: We're moving on.
- 34:31Don Armstrong: Are you making fun of us?
- 34:32Don Armstrong: I think he's trying to get away.
- 34:33Don Armstrong: You're trying to be part of us, that's what it is.
- 34:36Speaker 1: That's right.
- 34:38Don Armstrong: So, um, how many cars in the club?
- 34:41Speaker 2: Uh, right now we have about 18 to 19 cars.
- 34:45Don Armstrong: Do you need one?
- 34:45Don Armstrong: Another one?
- 34:46Don Armstrong: I live out uh Richmond.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Sure, I'll take it.
- 34:48Speaker 2: I'll take anybody.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Anybody anybody.
- 34:52Mike Marrs: That'll let you in for sure.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Let me let me rephrase that.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Yeah, you go, you better.
- 34:57Speaker 2: My club, I'm trying to bring back the old school style clubs where you just park, show your car, mingle, have fun, family oriented, bowling shirts, leather jackets.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yes, none of this trying to kill people on the street, running people over, tearing people's property up, taking up parking lots, and then doing takeovers.
- 35:20Don Armstrong: How about how about 13,000 revs in the parking lot?
- 35:23Speaker 2: We don't do that neither.
- 35:23Speaker 2: It's good.
- 35:24Speaker 2: We don't do that neither.
- 35:25Don Armstrong: Well, if you did, you'd probably blow it up.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Probably, but we spend a lot of money on our cars, and we do that in order to show our vehicles so we can bring the public out and bring the families out so you can get mom and dads and their children back together and reunited and do family activities.
- 35:40Don Armstrong: So we've got a deal for you.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 35:43Don Armstrong: Easter Saturday.
- 35:44Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 35:44Don Armstrong: Tailpipes and tacos.
- 35:46Don Armstrong: You ever heard of that?
- 35:47Speaker 2: No, sir.
- 35:48Don Armstrong: That's at the Lupi Tortilla Tex Mex out in Katy, which isn't that right up 99.
- 35:52Speaker 2: We're actually out of Katy.
- 35:53Speaker 2: We live out we live in.
- 35:55Don Armstrong: Okay, well, you know what the Lupi Tortilla is there.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Yeah, right there at uh Kingsland in uh 99.
- 36:01Don Armstrong: So Easter Saturday.
- 36:03Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 36:03Don Armstrong: You'll you'll appreciate the cars that show up there.
- 36:06Don Armstrong: Well, all are welcome, but uh you know it's mainly a bunch of old school guys.
- 36:11Jeff Dziekan: Right.
- 36:11Jeff Dziekan: And you talked about giving back to the children, the kids.
- 36:15Jeff Dziekan: There's actually gonna be a kids' event there as well.
- 36:17Jeff Dziekan: There's gonna have the pedal car event and they give trophies out.
- 36:20Jeff Dziekan: They've got the one, two, three stand.
- 36:21Jeff Dziekan: Yes, it's it's it's a big event for them, so you need them out.
- 36:25Jeff Dziekan: Right, okay.
- 36:26Mike Marrs: Of course, they're open and we're we'll be there from eight to eleven.
- 36:29Mike Marrs: Right.
- 36:29Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 36:30Mike Marrs: And uh that's when it runs.
- 36:31Mike Marrs: They'll have breakfast tacos, coffee, some other beverages, right?
- 36:35Mike Marrs: And and the money that people spend on that kind of stuff goes straight to Shirley's kids to find charity from kids.
- 36:43Jeff Dziekan: Okay.
- 36:44Jeff Dziekan: And Stan, the owner, actually matches it.
- 36:46Jeff Dziekan: Beautiful.
- 36:46Jeff Dziekan: So whatever's race he matches it next donation.
- 36:49Speaker 2: We'll be more than happy to go and give some of our money away.
- 36:51Don Armstrong: So how how do how do you get other people in your club?
- 36:54Speaker 2: Actually, they they can reach out to us on Instagram or TikTok or Facebook or are you a TikToker?
- 37:01Speaker 2: Yes, well, unfortunately, I am only for the car club.
- 37:04Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 37:05Don Armstrong: Because uh I don't do TikTok myself.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Well, that's that's how we're advertising, that's how we put out our meets and everything else is on social media, because social media is a big platform right now.
- 37:14Mike Marrs: Oh yeah.
- 37:14Speaker 2: You know, and so everybody's all we're old school Facebook.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Yeah, we're we're we're old school, you know, but I this I'm old school, I was my space back in the day.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 37:25Don Armstrong: Well, I didn't talk I didn't think we were talking to Methuselah, you know.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Well I'm 52, I might not look at it, but I'm 52 also, so you know.
- 37:32Don Armstrong: You're a young man.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm I'm still young, unfortunately, but you know.
- 37:37Don Armstrong: Do you uh do you work in the auto industry at all?
- 37:40Speaker 2: Actually, I own a repossession company and a private investigation company.
- 37:44Don Armstrong: Very good.
- 37:45Don Armstrong: TV show.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 37:47Don Armstrong: A walk-in TV show, that's you.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 37:49Speaker 2: And my brother was um he was the head tech at uh Classic Chevrolet for 30-something years back when it was uh Bill Hurts Chevrolet.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh Bill.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 37:58Don Armstrong: I think he's in the penitentiary, isn't he?
- 38:01Speaker 2: He's still alive?
- 38:01Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 38:02Speaker 2: I think he is in jail after all the tricky stuff he did.
- 38:05Jeff Dziekan: But he was quite quite of age when all that happened, so I don't know.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Might have.
- 38:13Speaker 2: But who knows?
- 38:14Don Armstrong: Exactly.
- 38:15Don Armstrong: So have you done anything to the Corvette?
- 38:18Don Armstrong: You say you got a lot of money in two.
- 38:19Don Armstrong: Well, a new Corvette is not cheap.
- 38:21Speaker 2: On my 2026, I especially ordered it out of uh Westside Chevrolet and Katie.
- 38:25Speaker 2: Um, did some some add-ons on it.
- 38:28Don Armstrong: Um I want to know about the add-ons.
- 38:30Speaker 2: We did the uh I did the exhaust on it, throttle body plates, uh injectors.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Instead of the uh 5.5 motor, I got the 6.2 motor in it on a ZL6.
- 38:40Speaker 2: So it it gets up and goes.
- 38:43Don Armstrong: I think it's you you want to smile as you said that you want you holding it back, I can tell.
- 38:47Don Armstrong: What color is it?
- 38:51Speaker 2: It's uh a green.
- 38:52Speaker 2: It's a real light green with some gold metallic flakes in it.
- 38:55Don Armstrong: So it's a custom paint show?
- 38:57Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 38:57Speaker 2: I think I'm if I'm not mistaken, my vehicle was the first one in Texas.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Um, because I ordered it and got it in towards the end of November, beginning of December.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I believe there was another one somewhere here in Texas somewhere, and then uh Chevy also said that they were gonna put it on a ZR1 X, uh, and then they were gonna discontinue the color.
- 39:17Speaker 2: So it's a rare color.
- 39:20Don Armstrong: One in a million probably.
- 39:22Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 39:22Don Armstrong: I like that.
- 39:23Don Armstrong: So do you normally go to the car shows like this?
- 39:27Speaker 2: Actually, the car shows that I only go to are the ones that we're VIP'd at, and the only reason why we go to the VIP ones is because we don't want to be mixed up in the bad craft.
- 39:37Speaker 2: The riff raft, yes.
- 39:38Speaker 5: So what is the what is a VIP?
- 39:41Speaker 2: The VIP is that we're getting our own spots.
- 39:45Speaker 2: We're getting recognized that my car club is coming out and we're coming out and gonna have a design spot that we're you know people can actually see our vehicles.
- 39:55Speaker 2: You know, we're not gonna be in the middle of the riffraff.
- 39:58Mike Marrs: So, so what would be an example of one of those?
- 40:01Don Armstrong: No, I want to know, wait a minute.
- 40:02Don Armstrong: I want to know, first of all, what what is the definition of riffraff to you?
- 40:08Mike Marrs: He wants to see if he can belong to that club too.
- 40:10Speaker 2: In real time.
- 40:11Speaker 2: Riffraff.com riffraff is, you know, unfortunately, this new era in street takeovers and things takeovers and the kids these days that are, you know, they they think because you have a hot rod or you can make the car louder or faster that they can just go out and just tear everything up in the United States.
- 40:31Mike Marrs: Generally louder is the criteria.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Correct, correct.
- 40:34Speaker 2: But I don't feel that if you have a sports car that you have to go out and take over somebody's property or do burnouts and donuts in a parking lot, destroy people's parking lots, you know, rev your motor up until you you're popping it, or you let me ask you something.
- 40:50Jeff Dziekan: Well, they my mother used to call them hoodlums.
- 40:51Jeff Dziekan: Hoodlums.
- 40:52Jeff Dziekan: My mother used to call them hoodlums.
- 40:54Jeff Dziekan: So every don't hang out with the hoodlums.
- 40:56Don Armstrong: Well, so let me ask you all all the burnouts and and the donuts and all that stuff, dude.
- 41:02Don Armstrong: I'm thinking dollars.
- 41:03Speaker 2: But what do you get out of it?
- 41:05Don Armstrong: Well, that was that.
- 41:06Don Armstrong: But okay, so I go out there and I burn the back tires off the Corvette.
- 41:10Don Armstrong: Now I gotta go and spend $500, at least $500 on a new set of rear tires.
- 41:15Don Armstrong: Yeah, right, correct.
- 41:16Don Armstrong: Correct.
- 41:17Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 41:18Don Armstrong: I I don't have any clue what that said.
- 41:22Mike Marrs: No, he was asking about a camera that he was controlling.
- 41:25Mike Marrs: Yeah, I I I'm out of control.
- 41:27Don Armstrong: Oh.
- 41:28Don Armstrong: Well, look at that.
- 41:29Don Armstrong: Well, are we are we off of that?
- 41:31Don Armstrong: No, we're on that.
- 41:32Jeff Dziekan: We're still we're still on that.
- 41:34Don Armstrong: But so what's the criteria for us to check?
- 41:35Don Armstrong: Pardon me.
- 41:36Don Armstrong: Well, we'll go to commercial.
- 41:37Don Armstrong: Oh, we've got to go next commercial?
- 41:38Don Armstrong: Technical work, yeah.
- 41:39Don Armstrong: Technical work commercial because we're we're we're kind of hobbling along here, right?
- 41:43Don Armstrong: Um, and uh we we don't like that, but we're of age to do that.
- 41:48Don Armstrong: It's because we're not hungover.
- 41:49Mike Marrs: Exactly.
- 41:50Mike Marrs: That's the problem.
- 41:51Mike Marrs: We're not drinking monster.
- 41:52Mike Marrs: That's why we're drinking monster.
- 41:53Mike Marrs: I had to spend too much time getting ready, couldn't get enough time.
- 41:56Mike Marrs: Is there is there coffee or water around here?
- 41:58Mike Marrs: Well, I'm fixing to send uh when Paige comes back.
- 42:00Mike Marrs: I'm gonna get her to go make a channel.
- 42:01Mike Marrs: Where's Paige now?
- 42:02Mike Marrs: I'm not sure.
- 42:03Don Armstrong: You know, that's a scary thing if you don't know where Paige is.
- 42:05Don Armstrong: Paige is his granddaughter, who's 19, a very attractive young woman, and I'm worried.
- 42:10Speaker 1: That was her driving off.
- 42:11Speaker 1: That was the car killing the riff raff.
- 42:17Don Armstrong: There's that.
- 42:18Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 42:18Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 42:19Don Armstrong: Oh my god.
- 42:20Don Armstrong: Well, uh you said that Camo.
- 42:23Don Armstrong: Camo vet.
- 42:23Don Armstrong: Camo Corvette.
- 42:25Don Armstrong: You said that you were uh, I thought that you said that you were in Sugarland.
- 42:28Don Armstrong: Was that your brother that was out there?
- 42:30Speaker 2: We're we're all originally from First Colony Sugarland area back when Mr.
- 42:33Speaker 2: Frost owned all the ranches and Highway 6 was a two-lane road.
- 42:37Don Armstrong: I remember it well.
- 42:38Don Armstrong: Um the only restaurant out there back in the day was Los Tilles.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Yes, Los Tilles.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Los Mexican restaurant on Highway 6.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 42:44Speaker 2: I believe it was uh Highway 6 in uh Williams Trace.
- 42:47Don Armstrong: That look at you.
- 42:48Don Armstrong: Dang, he's even got a member there every week.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Yeah, we were too.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:52Speaker 2: I I believe that was my first job at Los Tilles.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Really?
- 42:55Speaker 2: Yes, sir, right there on the corner.
- 42:56Speaker 2: And then from Los Tilles, I'd leave Los Tills and go to Randall's and be a stalker at Randall's.
- 43:01Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 43:01Don Armstrong: Yeah, Randall's was our grocery store, sir.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but small world.
- 43:05Speaker 2: We all left Sugarland and went to Katie when Sugarland started getting overpopulated.
- 43:10Speaker 2: My brother and his wife were the only ones that actually stayed in Sugarland, first colony area.
- 43:15Speaker 2: But we just we moved over to Katie.
- 43:17Speaker 2: But now Katie is getting crazy.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Crazy now, too.
- 43:21Speaker 2: A lot of crime.
- 43:22Speaker 2: So what's next over there?
- 43:23Don Armstrong: I'll tell you what's next.
- 43:24Don Armstrong: Honestly, you're the of the age that you could move out there to be in one of those old folks' communities.
- 43:29Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Actually, honestly, we're looking for some land right now.
- 43:32Speaker 2: We want to stay around Berkshire, Waller area, any hideout, good place to be.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Yes, but I want actually the land that's wooded.
- 43:39Speaker 2: I don't because everybody right now is cutting down the woods.
- 43:42Speaker 2: I want it wooded, so I can't.
- 43:45Don Armstrong: You want to live in the woods.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Yes, I want to cut down the section where I want to put the house.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Just a little bit.
- 43:49Don Armstrong: And let's not forget the garage.
- 43:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 43:50Speaker 2: I want a huge garage.
- 43:52Speaker 2: I can park all my toys in there.
- 43:53Speaker 2: But I want I want to be able to see you coming in, but I don't want you to see me.
- 43:58Speaker 2: One of those.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Like a bunker.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Rifraf.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Yes, sir.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Riffraft.
- 44:04Don Armstrong: Well, man, it's a pleasure to meet you.
- 44:06Speaker 2: It's a pleasure meeting you all.
- 44:07Speaker 2: And what's the name of the car club again?

- 51:47Don Armstrong: We were worried about you because you know you're out here with a bunch of car guys.
- 51:51Don Armstrong: Just saying.
- 51:53Don Armstrong: She needs a headset.
- 51:54Don Armstrong: She does.
- 51:56Don Armstrong: Um okay.
- 51:58Don Armstrong: Um Mr.
- 51:59Don Armstrong: Mars.
- 52:00Don Armstrong: I'm gonna kind of mix things up a little bit here.
- 52:03Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 52:04Don Armstrong: Um, Jeff, uh, do you want uh do we even want to try to get back on track with this?
- 52:09Jeff Dziekan: You can if you want.
- 52:10Jeff Dziekan: Do you want to do the racing?
- 52:11Don Armstrong: Uh well, I'm not sure.
- 52:12Don Armstrong: Um, yeah, let's do the racing calendar because it's big.
- 52:15Don Armstrong: It's sponsored by Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge.
- 52:18Jeff Dziekan: Thank you for that.
- 52:18Jeff Dziekan: Give me just a second here.
- 52:20Jeff Dziekan: We're we're uh running a little crazy.
- 52:22Jeff Dziekan: Well, I know.
- 52:23Jeff Dziekan: And um Oh, but in racing, we've got some good stuff.
- 52:26Jeff Dziekan: This week, to actually tomorrow.
- 52:29Jeff Dziekan: I'll I'll take one.
- 52:31Jeff Dziekan: Tomorrow is um for the IndyCar series, you got Streets of Arlington in Jerry's World.
- 52:37Jeff Dziekan: I watched a little bit of the practice and a little bit of the qualifying for the N the NXT series and the big boys.
- 52:44Don Armstrong: Streets of Arlington.
- 52:45Jeff Dziekan: Streets of Arlington, and it's going around the stadium, the baseball stadium, football stadium, and all that.
- 52:50Jeff Dziekan: They did here in Houston many years ago.
- 52:52Jeff Dziekan: They're doing that up there, and it's tomorrow uh up in Dallas.
- 52:56Jeff Dziekan: Formula One.
- 52:58Jeff Dziekan: They have issues.
- 52:59Jeff Dziekan: The new car that they're putting out for Formula One is.
- 53:02Jeff Dziekan: Nobody likes it.
- 53:02Jeff Dziekan: Nobody likes it.
- 53:04Jeff Dziekan: You've got to watch your battery level for charging, and it's it's go slow to go fast.
- 53:10Jeff Dziekan: They're putting it.
- 53:11Jeff Dziekan: Is it Formula E?
- 53:12Jeff Dziekan: Well, they're you know what?
- 53:14Jeff Dziekan: You bring that up because they're calling it an updated version of Formula E, and they're hating it.
- 53:20Jeff Dziekan: The cars are hard to drive.
- 53:21Jeff Dziekan: It's not Formula E.
- 53:22Jeff Dziekan: It's not, but they're calling it that.
- 53:24Jeff Dziekan: Because you have to do the you have to maintain the electricity.
- 53:26Jeff Dziekan: Because it's a hybrid.
- 53:27Jeff Dziekan: Yep.
- 53:27Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 53:29Jeff Dziekan: If you can gas and electric.
- 53:33Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, and then you gotta pit on time and all this other good stuff.
- 53:36Jeff Dziekan: So but that's uh that's actually the 15th tomorrow.
- 53:39Jeff Dziekan: It's the Chinese Grand Prix going on there.
- 53:42Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, uh NHRA, they are off until the end of the month, the 20th and 21st.
- 53:47Jeff Dziekan: But there's gonna be in Arizona, and they got uh pretty good compliment of folks that are gonna be running.
- 53:53Don Armstrong: That would be next weekend, wouldn't it?
- 53:55Jeff Dziekan: Yep, that'll be next weekend.
- 53:56Jeff Dziekan: And I think I've got one here.
- 53:58Jeff Dziekan: My NASCAR boys, the uh trucks are off this weekend, but the uh uh Riley series in the big boys.
- 54:07Don Armstrong: Yeah, I know I was almost saying they're because they're going broke, so they pulled out.
- 54:10Jeff Dziekan: And they are in Vegas, so uh check that out as well.
- 54:14Jeff Dziekan: And of course, you got circle track guys, all you got your local tracks, all that good stuff.
- 54:18Jeff Dziekan: Go out and support them because that's where you get your new talent.
- 54:20Jeff Dziekan: And speaking of talent, I'm not talking about NASCAR, so okay.
- 54:24Jeff Dziekan: They've got their own issues.
- 54:27Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, they really do.
- 54:29Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 54:30Don Armstrong: Mars, did you want to contribute to this?
- 54:32Mike Marrs: Yeah, I did.
- 54:32Mike Marrs: I said they do, I agree.
- 54:34Don Armstrong: Well, no, but wait for no, but I mean, do you uh uh feature of some sort?
- 54:37Don Armstrong: Do we have time?
- 54:38Jeff Dziekan: No, we don't history?
- 54:39Don Armstrong: Uh yeah, we do.
- 54:40Jeff Dziekan: You want to participate, but we don't have time for auto history.
- 54:42Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, go ahead.
- 54:43Don Armstrong: Go ahead, Mars.
- 54:44Don Armstrong: We'll make time for you.
- 54:45Mike Marrs: All right, so you want me to run something here, buddy?
- 54:47Jeff Dziekan: I got it.
- 54:48Mike Marrs: This week's auto history.
- 54:49Mike Marrs: So it's second week of March, lots of things going on in racing, milestones.
- 54:53Mike Marrs: Got a lot of people were born, but we don't do births so much.
- 54:56Mike Marrs: So we're gonna go straight to March 8, 1950.
- 54:59Mike Marrs: Now, this is when production begins for the Volkswagen Type 2.
- 55:03Mike Marrs: Originally slated as a type one, but this is called uh you called it a microbus, a minibus.
- 55:09Mike Marrs: Uh it came in several different variations.
- 55:11Mike Marrs: It came actually as a single cab truck, a double dual cab truck, uh camper, hippie bands, any way you want them.
- 55:18Mike Marrs: It had it in all kinds of different variations.
- 55:21Mike Marrs: Now, by the 1960s, it basically became a microbus.
- 55:25Mike Marrs: And uh I was really interested that they actually have a pickup flatbed that was involved in all this.
- 55:31Mike Marrs: So then uh moving straight on up to March 8, 1969, uh uh, Pontiac reveals the Trans Am.
- 55:37Mike Marrs: That's a pretty car.
- 55:38Mike Marrs: Now, this is the first year they brought it out.
- 55:40Mike Marrs: Of course, it's based on the Firebird package, uh, and it was designed to go and race with the SCCA Trans-American Championship Racing Series.
- 55:48Mike Marrs: And the first one, the 69, is on the left in this picture, the 73 is on the right, and that's the one that I really like.
- 55:55Mike Marrs: You might remember it from the movie Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.
- 55:58Mike Marrs: So then we're going on up to March 9.
- 56:01Mike Marrs: Now, this is the first Mustang that was produced.
- 56:03Mike Marrs: I know we talk about the Mustangs Lost a lot.
- 56:06Mike Marrs: People talk about the 1964 and a half, and blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 56:10Mike Marrs: Well, this was actually built in March, and it actually came out in April of 1964.
- 56:17Mike Marrs: They call it generally a 64 and a half, but the 64 was and a half was the first year the Mustang was made.
- 56:23Mike Marrs: This is that was where'd it go?
- 56:25Mike Marrs: This was, that was.
- 56:27Jeff Dziekan: And then where'd it go?
- 56:28Mike Marrs: I hit the button whenever I was pouncing around it.
- 56:30Mike Marrs: So that's actually it.
- 56:32Mike Marrs: That is the very first one that was made whenever the millionth Mustang came out.
- 56:35Mike Marrs: They traded it to the owner of the original one so they could get it back and put it in this museum.
- 56:39Mike Marrs: Oh, that's cool.
- 56:40Mike Marrs: March the 9th.
- 56:42Mike Marrs: Turn the page.
- 56:46Mike Marrs: March the 12th.
- 56:47Mike Marrs: Ferrari 125 IS is computed or is completed.
- 56:51Mike Marrs: Now, this is the first car that was built by founder Enzo Ferrari.
- 56:57Mike Marrs: It's powered by a compact V12 engine, and this is what began Ferrari as the manufacturing of his own vehicles.
- 57:04Mike Marrs: Up to that time, he had done uh farmed out some of that stuff.
- 57:07Mike Marrs: But this is where Ferrari got started.
- 57:09Mike Marrs: Then coming up in March the 13th, the Lub Bug came out as a Volkswagen bug.
- 57:17Mike Marrs: It came out in several different variations.
- 57:19Mike Marrs: Disney made a lot of money off of that.
- 57:21Speaker 5: It would be Herbie.
- 57:22Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:23Mike Marrs: And uh still people are meeting, they have Herbie meets, and people go and bring their Herbie cars.
- 57:28Mike Marrs: March the 14th, 1957, Fort Fairlane 500 Skyliner debuts.
- 57:33Mike Marrs: Now, this is the one where the roof actually retracts down into the trunk.
- 57:37Mike Marrs: It was really fascinating.
- 57:38Mike Marrs: I remember the first time I saw one of those up in Oklahoma when I was a kid.
- 57:41Mike Marrs: Could not believe it.
- 57:43Mike Marrs: It was very expensive to produce, but it demonstrated their engineering and the technology that they could do and kind of led them to other things that were more uh cost effective to produce.
- 57:54Mike Marrs: And that's what I'm going to say is this week in automotive history of a real quick look.
- 57:59Don Armstrong: All right.
- 58:00Jeff Dziekan: Well, it wasn't that quick.
- 58:01Jeff Dziekan: Oh, but we'll we'll go with that.
- 58:04Jeff Dziekan: And that the then wasn't there a bunch of solenoids on that roof to it was like 60 of them.
- 58:09Mike Marrs: Yeah, that's the reason the technology was really cool, but it just was expensive to build, and then it was expensive to maintain.
- 58:16Mike Marrs: There's your car, Mars.
- 58:18Mike Marrs: That is yours.
- 58:19Mike Marrs: Come on.
- 58:20Mike Marrs: If I was gonna have one like that, that's what I'd have.
- 58:23Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 58:24Don Armstrong: It looks like it just came off of the dirt truck.
- 58:26Don Armstrong: Yeah, or it could just go on.
- 58:28Don Armstrong: Well, it could do that too.
- 58:29Don Armstrong: Seems like it came off a rollback.
