- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time.
- 0:07Speaker 2: A wave original. My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for
- 0:11Speaker 2: listening wherever you get your podcast. Thanks for watching us
- 0:13Speaker 2: on YouTube. Subscribe, like, rate us, review us, give us
- 0:16Speaker 2: five stars.
- 0:17Speaker 1: You only give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe
- 0:19Speaker 1: you are a hater. It is Charles Robinson on a Thursday.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Did you do that on purpose?
- 0:26Speaker 1: I did. I did.
- 0:27Speaker 2: John McDonald from Yahoo Sport.
- 0:32Speaker 3: It's got to be a thing now. I know. I know.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I mean, I did it with such gusto that I
- 0:36Speaker 2: was hoping that you would understand. But I saw a
- 0:39Speaker 2: glimmer in your eye like, wait.
- 0:41Speaker 3: A minute, this isn't real, is it? I'm about to
- 0:43Speaker 3: fall for this again. No, no, no.
- 0:46Speaker 2: This time it was an accident. The other times it
- 0:49Speaker 2: was me. It was, I liked Charles Robinson, so it
- 0:52Speaker 2: wasn't a negative, right?
- 0:53Speaker 1: You know? And like, I think, I feel like Charles.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Charles is the one that goes, oh, that's the R &
- 0:59Speaker 2: B fan. But I feel like Charles got some tendencies,
- 1:02Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:02Speaker 1: What I'm saying, as I recall.
- 1:03Speaker 3: He does. Old Texas Democrat, you know, so he's.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Got some tendencies. Inexplicably living in Houston.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Yes. Not from Houston. Yeah, but he loves it. He
- 1:13Speaker 3: loves it, yeah. You'd think he was from Houston.
- 1:16Speaker 2: And that doesn't happen. Like Jeff Van Gundy is the ultimate. Oh,
- 1:20Speaker 2: you really just decided to stay because you love it.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Oh, okay. I didn't think that was coming.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Good for you, man. Look, we got a lot of
- 1:28Speaker 2: NFL to talk about. Also, history is about to repeat
- 1:31Speaker 2: itself in the dumbest way. That's what they call a
- 1:34Speaker 2: tease in the business, baby. But first, I got a
- 1:36Speaker 2: question for you because the Dolphins traded Jalen Waddle, right?
- 1:46Speaker 2: I'll be honest with you. I have already forgotten who.
- 1:48Speaker 1: They traded him to. Who did they trade him to?
- 1:49Speaker 3: Denver Broncos.
- 1:50Speaker 1: That's right. They traded him to Denver, okay?
- 1:53Speaker 2: And it didn't even matter to me where they traded
- 1:55Speaker 2: him because the big.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Thing for me was.
- 1:58Speaker 2: I was like, do y'all even got a quarterback? Like,
- 2:01Speaker 2: Tyreek Hill is out of there. Jalen Waddell, you just
- 2:06Speaker 2: traded him. And I was trying to figure out, like, wait, wait,
- 2:09Speaker 2: I don't even remember who your quarterback is. And then
- 2:12Speaker 2: Ryan reminded me....
- 2:15Speaker 1: They had signed Malik Willis, right?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Giving him like $ 30 million guaranteed. Malik Willis started with
- 2:24Speaker 2: the Titans. He wound up going to Green Bay. He
- 2:25Speaker 2: was Jordan Love's backup. The new coach in Miami, was
- 2:30Speaker 2: it Halfley?
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 2: He came from Green Bay. So I'm assuming he has
- 2:34Speaker 2: reason to think good things about Willis, or at the
- 2:37Speaker 2: very least, he knows how to run the offense they have.
- 2:39Speaker 2: But we all acknowledge, man, he's not very big and
- 2:42Speaker 2: he is untested. He is certainly talented, right? But we
- 2:45Speaker 2: still have questions about what he's going to do. And
- 2:48Speaker 2: I don't know if this is some sort of metaphor
- 2:50Speaker 2: about being black in America, but he thought he had
- 2:53Speaker 2: his chance.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And then they was like, yo, best receiver, what you
- 2:55Speaker 1: need that for? Partner, show us.
- 2:57Speaker 2: It's almost like somebody in there decided out of nowhere, no, actually.
- 3:01Speaker 1: He got to work twice as hard. Hell yeah. That's
- 3:05Speaker 1: what they say, right? What are they doing?
- 3:08Speaker 3: I mean, like, working twice as hard is like the
- 3:10Speaker 3: idea that there is a chance of success here at all.
- 3:13Speaker 3: You know, like, this is like the ultimate black experience
- 3:17Speaker 3: because you think you got something, but you're holding it
- 3:20Speaker 3: down for the next white man to come sit down
- 3:22Speaker 3: in that chair. Because, okay. Because when I saw that
- 3:27Speaker 3: they traded Waddle, I posted on Boost.com, I was like, yo, like,
- 3:31Speaker 3: why did they sign Malik Willis just to eat all
- 3:34Speaker 3: this dead caps? Like, because they had not just Tyreek,
- 3:38Speaker 3: they had Jalen Waddell, obviously Tua is going to count
- 3:42Speaker 3: for $ 67 million worth of dead cap this year. And
- 3:44Speaker 3: I think when you put it all together, it's going
- 3:46Speaker 3: to be $ 175 million worth of dead cap, which means like, in.
- 3:49Speaker 1: A league where- That's more than half the salary cap.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Right, right. The salary cap is $ 313 million. So if
- 3:56Speaker 3: you don't have access to $ 175 million, you basically, you
- 4:01Speaker 3: can't feel the team, dog. Like you got Malik Willis
- 4:05Speaker 3: and you got rookies. Okay. So, you know, someone responded,
- 4:09Speaker 3: like Dolphins fans responded to me like, oh, well, we're
- 4:11Speaker 3: trying to figure out if he's got the stuff to
- 4:13Speaker 3: be like the next quarterback. How the hell are you
- 4:15Speaker 3: going to figure this out? Like, look at who he's
- 4:19Speaker 3: throwing to, dog. And I– because people ask me, you know,
- 4:24Speaker 3: what do you think of the Malik Willis deal? I'm like, man,
- 4:26Speaker 3: congrats to that brother. He is a lot better than
- 4:28Speaker 3: he was in Tennessee. He turned all 35 of those
- 4:32Speaker 3: passive attempts he had last year into some real wealth
- 4:35Speaker 3: for the future. So congrats to him. And I doubt
- 4:39Speaker 3: we'll see him start a game pass next year.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I feel like his signing, again, the devil don't need
- 4:45Speaker 2: no advocate. But if I were trying to argue that
- 4:47Speaker 2: racism was over, this would have been.
- 4:51Speaker 1: A data point.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And then he got to Miami and they was like, nah, dog, counterpoint.
- 4:56Speaker 3: No.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Catapult.
- 4:57Speaker 3: What if we did it like this? And I think
- 4:59Speaker 3: people are like, you got to remember, when you see
- 5:01Speaker 3: the Malik Wills numbers on the deal, I think it
- 5:03Speaker 3: came out to like, what? It was like, it went
- 5:06Speaker 3: to like $ 25 and $ 30 million per year. Bro, that's
- 5:09Speaker 3: just starter money nowadays.
- 5:10Speaker 1: It's starter money. But you know what?
- 5:12Speaker 2: Him even getting starter money is, I mean, it is
- 5:16Speaker 2: on one level a show of faith.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And you know what? Maybe that's the bright side.
- 5:20Speaker 2: They're showing an incredible level of faith in him because
- 5:23Speaker 2: they believe he doesn't need anything.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They're treating him like he's Patrick Mahomes, right? Like, hey, right.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And that gets us back to the, maybe it is racism.
- 5:31Speaker 2: But if you so, if it's so hard, how come
- 5:34Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes can do it?
- 5:36Speaker 3: You know, I started thinking, you know, remember when, I
- 5:39Speaker 3: think it was the first Trump run and there was
- 5:42Speaker 3: this gif, like, or a video going around at one
- 5:44Speaker 3: of his rallies where he was like, Look at him.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Look at my African-American over there. And that's what this
- 5:51Speaker 3: whole Dolphins season is going to be. Because if you're
- 5:55Speaker 3: a Dolphins fan, like, look at that offensive roster. Who
- 5:58Speaker 3: are you watching this for? If not just to see
- 6:01Speaker 3: Malik Willis run around like, oh, he's got strong arms,
- 6:04Speaker 3: run a 4'3. They hold my man H.M. hostage.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Well, that's what I'm saying.
- 6:10Speaker 2: They said they won't trade H.M. He's the one that's
- 6:12Speaker 2: got to work. He's the one that's going to be
- 6:14Speaker 2: out there.
- 6:15Speaker 1: His nickname might as well be 8-Man Box.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Dude, and you know he's got to be hurting because
- 6:20Speaker 3: he's about to end the last year of his deal.
- 6:23Speaker 3: He's like, y'all ate all this dead money for Tua,
- 6:25Speaker 3: all this dead money for Waddle, the dead money for Tyreek.
- 6:29Speaker 3: I can't get no dead cap love on.
- 6:31Speaker 1: The new team. And here's the thing. They say they
- 6:33Speaker 1: refuse to trade him, right?
- 6:35Speaker 2: Maybe they're waiting to do like a mid-season trade, but
- 6:38Speaker 2: we all know the data indicates pretty clearly rushing yards
- 6:43Speaker 2: is a function of offensive line more than anything else, right?
- 6:46Speaker 2: Like a great running back can, it's not that a
- 6:49Speaker 2: great running back doesn't matter, but the idea that our
- 6:53Speaker 2: running back is untouchable and is HA-ing, Nah, nah, nah, man.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Somebody want to give you a three, a two or
- 6:59Speaker 1: three for that? Go ahead and make it happen. Y'all
- 7:01Speaker 1: going to be sorry. Like we all know y'all going
- 7:04Speaker 1: to be sorry. Y'all going to be sorry.
- 7:06Speaker 3: And HN, he's one of those runners where there's a
- 7:10Speaker 3: lot of bad as much good as there is because
- 7:12Speaker 3: he's going to be the guy that eats a bunch
- 7:15Speaker 3: of TFLs and you're just kind of waiting and waiting
- 7:17Speaker 3: and waiting and then he pops an 80-yard touchdown and
- 7:19Speaker 3: you feel a little bit better about it. That's the
- 7:21Speaker 3: whole offense this year, though. Like it's just all boom busts.
- 7:25Speaker 3: There's no consistency here. So shout out to Malik for
- 7:28Speaker 3: getting paid. That money's going to go a long way.
- 7:32Speaker 3: But yeah, that's a pretty tough spot. And I just
- 7:37Speaker 3: kind of don't understand. Why not just throw Skylar Thompson
- 7:40Speaker 3: out there again if this is what your offense is
- 7:42Speaker 3: going to be? This is nothing. It's legit nothing.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I just, I can't.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I don't know what kind of young man Malik Willis is,
- 7:49Speaker 2: but maybe he'll give us some of those glorious K-Award
- 7:52Speaker 2: press conferences.
- 7:54Speaker 1: If we keep it at a buck, we ass.
- 7:58Speaker 3: If that happens, he's been broken because Malik's one of
- 8:01Speaker 3: those holier-than-thou types a little bit.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, he went to Liberty.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Yeah, he went to Liberty, right? But I will say,
- 8:07Speaker 3: he seems like an okay dude, but you still have
- 8:10Speaker 3: the caveat. He did choose to go to Liberty after
- 8:13Speaker 3: going to Auburn. But he seems like a good enough guy.
- 8:17Speaker 3: If his faith is tested at all, it's going to
- 8:19Speaker 3: be this year because he got rewarded, but Hey.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Man, his thing is going to be Brightside, Miami.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Like, I imagine that no team needs to fear like
- 8:33Speaker 2: an 0-3 start more than the Dolphins because what a
- 8:37Speaker 2: great city to quit in.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Like, if you've just decided that there ain't no point,
- 8:43Speaker 2: that city's for you.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I mean, it could be worse. Like you could be,
- 8:47Speaker 3: you could be in Phoenix where you've decided that you
- 8:49Speaker 3: have no chance. Yeah.
- 8:52Speaker 1: What are they doing?
- 8:53Speaker 3: That, that to me is, is, is like more inexplicable.
- 8:57Speaker 2: They got rid of, I still think a starting caliber quarterback.
- 9:01Speaker 3: Dude.
- 9:02Speaker 1: For nothing.
- 9:02Speaker 3: For nothing.
- 9:03Speaker 1: With no solution.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Right. And, and I, I did, I feel like not
- 9:07Speaker 3: enough people were talking about how crazy that was to just,
- 9:11Speaker 3: to cut him. Bro, you're in, in your division. you
- 9:15Speaker 3: have Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, Mike McDaniel. Okay. You're already
- 9:20Speaker 3: starting behind the eight ball, like really, really far behind
- 9:24Speaker 3: the eight ball. You had something like, cause we see
- 9:26Speaker 3: it at his best. Kyler, I know they haven't done it,
- 9:30Speaker 3: but at his best Kyler, he's had multiple seasons where
- 9:33Speaker 3: we're like halfway through the years. Like, is this the
- 9:35Speaker 3: MVP of the year of league? Are, are there Cardinals
- 9:37Speaker 3: about to go to the Superbowl? And I will say
- 9:40Speaker 3: in 2024, his advanced metrics had him placed like a
- 9:43Speaker 3: top 10 quarterback. So, When you look at the whole
- 9:46Speaker 3: totality of his career, last year was an outlier in
- 9:49Speaker 3: a negative way. So if you're just looking at everything
- 9:53Speaker 3: added up, you should expect him to bounce back to
- 9:57Speaker 3: a degree. I'm not saying he's going to go out
- 9:58Speaker 3: there and have the the season that Dak Prescott did
- 10:02Speaker 3: when when when he came back last year. But it's
- 10:07Speaker 3: a lot better situation than the damn Arizona Cardinals. Right.
- 10:10Speaker 2: But it's like this, even if you don't think he's
- 10:12Speaker 2: going to bounce back. You would think that this 30
- 10:16Speaker 2: something million dollar cap hit would be an incentive for
- 10:19Speaker 2: you to figure out how to work it out because
- 10:21Speaker 2: he's not terrible.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Right. Right. Like the system is built.
- 10:25Speaker 2: The idea behind these contracts and these big cap numbers
- 10:29Speaker 2: is to give the illusion of like the illusion that
- 10:32Speaker 2: it's a guaranteed term of the deal. Like you can
- 10:35Speaker 2: look at every contract and you can reasonably say, OK,
- 10:38Speaker 2: this is when the deal starts.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Is actually going to end, right?
- 10:40Speaker 2: When the guaranteed money isn't there, the cap hit has
- 10:44Speaker 2: gone down. Every time somebody says that there are no
- 10:48Speaker 2: guaranteed contracts in the NFL, it's like, not.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Really, but.
- 10:54Speaker 2: there is a version. You get the upfront money. There
- 10:56Speaker 2: are all these different things that come. But having that
- 10:59Speaker 2: cap hit is supposed to be like, all right, man, well,
- 11:01Speaker 2: I guess we're just going to work it out. It's
- 11:02Speaker 2: the same way with buyouts, with coaches in college. Like,
- 11:06Speaker 2: the idea is we're going to have this buyout, and
- 11:09Speaker 2: we're just going to have to work this out. And
- 11:10Speaker 2: then you see Brian Kelly, James Franklin, $ 50 million buyouts,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and people are still canning them, right?
- 11:15Speaker 1: It's like, no, no, no. This is supposed to be
- 11:17Speaker 1: built for you to behave in a different way.
- 11:20Speaker 3: So.
- 11:21Speaker 1: This is crazy.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Yeah. The fact that, and honestly, I will say, you
- 11:28Speaker 3: kind of got me going on this maybe a month ago,
- 11:30Speaker 3: or maybe it was a few weeks ago, when you
- 11:32Speaker 3: talked about the NBA tanking and the idea that you
- 11:35Speaker 3: would charge fans money to come see this. It's ridiculous.
- 11:41Speaker 3: And not only that, but the idea in, if you
- 11:45Speaker 3: want to just be like the cold, like the coldest
- 11:48Speaker 3: capitalist you want about this, there's no incentive to actually
- 11:52Speaker 3: go out there and field a winning team. If you
- 11:54Speaker 3: don't want to, because every team gets the same revenue cut,
- 11:58Speaker 3: whether you win 17 games, whether you win zero games.
- 12:00Speaker 3: So you, you, there's no financial obligation for these guys
- 12:05Speaker 3: to win outside of glory. And I think we'll see
- 12:08Speaker 3: some shifts in that as a less and less football
- 12:11Speaker 3: people on these teams and more, you know, finance and
- 12:13Speaker 3: hedge fund people on these teams in the future. Uh,
- 12:17Speaker 3: But the idea that, especially the Cardinals, man, you're in
- 12:20Speaker 3: the NFC West. And what I've been asking is, does
- 12:24Speaker 3: Michael Flora win a division game before he gets fired? Seriously,
- 12:28Speaker 3: does he win a game in the division before he
- 12:30Speaker 3: gets fired? Because you've got three legit Super Bowl champions,
- 12:34Speaker 3: probably three of the five best head coaches in the league,
- 12:38Speaker 3: and you're going to cut Kyler Murray so you can maybe...
- 12:42Speaker 3: maybe get arch. And then maybe, maybe like two, three
- 12:46Speaker 3: years after that, like maybe you're at a point where
- 12:48Speaker 3: you can compete with the, the, the immediate threats in
- 12:51Speaker 3: your division. Hell no, man. Like, like go compete now.
- 12:54Speaker 3: That's why, you know, like the Raiders, at least they,
- 12:56Speaker 3: they got lucky and got their hands in the number
- 12:58Speaker 3: one overall pick. But even them like, shit, you still
- 13:01Speaker 3: got Sean Payton and the chiefs and Jim and your division.
- 13:07Speaker 3: The older I get, I cannot stand all the tanking
- 13:10Speaker 3: and the quitting because y'all are getting paid regardless. And
- 13:13Speaker 3: I don't mean the players. I mean the teams.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Yeah, but let's stay with Miami.
- 13:17Speaker 2: We talk so bad about Tua, but he's still a
- 13:19Speaker 2: starting NFL quarterback, right?
- 13:22Speaker 1: Like, he's never going to be great.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I think that he has proven to be a disappointment
- 13:27Speaker 2: to a degree. I think all of those things are fair.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Look at all that money Miami ate just to get
- 13:34Speaker 2: him out of there for a quarterback that we have
- 13:37Speaker 2: no reason to assume is better than him.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:43Speaker 3: There it is. We've never seen that. He's like that
- 13:46Speaker 3: much better than them. Man, the two is starting quarterback stuff.
- 13:50Speaker 3: That's going to test my faith this season.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Hey, yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 1: By the way, speaking of that, Charles on that narcotic.
- 13:56Speaker 3: I know.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And now the Falcons, you know, you got, you got,
- 14:02Speaker 2: you got the two lefties. You got Michael Pennix, whenever
- 14:04Speaker 2: he comes back from his latest debilitating injury.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And you got to a tongue of our law. You
- 14:10Speaker 1: still on that dope.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And by the way, I want to say again, Tua,
- 14:17Speaker 2: this will be Tua with some weapons around.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Him, right? I know.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Tua with Drake London, Tua with B. John, Tua with
- 14:22Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts.
- 14:24Speaker 2: If everything is going right, when he put his foot
- 14:26Speaker 2: down for the fifth time on that drop, he going
- 14:28Speaker 2: to get the ball to where it need to go.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Sometimes. There are good things, right? I don't think it's
- 14:33Speaker 1: the worst idea they ever had.
- 14:35Speaker 3: No. it's not the worst idea they ever had, but
- 14:41Speaker 3: my question that I would posit to them is if
- 14:43Speaker 3: the price is the same, why not just try and
- 14:45Speaker 3: get Kyler? Cause I didn't really see anything about them
- 14:47Speaker 3: being interested in Kyler Murray. Cause, cause you're like, you're
- 14:50Speaker 3: kind of at a similar spot as the Vikings, you know, you've,
- 14:53Speaker 3: you've got the, the supporting Catholic offense, at least two,
- 14:57Speaker 3: you know, you're not winning shit with that. But this
- 15:01Speaker 3: is the thing with Atlanta. Like it's, it's, it's flashy,
- 15:03Speaker 3: no substance. Uh, but it, it did remind me, uh,
- 15:07Speaker 3: When I was at the Super Bowl this year, we
- 15:09Speaker 3: interviewed Bijan Robson at the Yahoo set. And I was
- 15:14Speaker 3: chatting with him after. Because I joked during the interview
- 15:17Speaker 3: that I was a fan. He asked me afterwards. He
- 15:19Speaker 3: was like, yo, you're really a fan? I'm like, yeah.
- 15:21Speaker 3: He's like, bro, we're going to get this right. I promise.
- 15:23Speaker 3: I'm like, man, if there's one Falcon I don't need
- 15:27Speaker 3: an apology from, it's him. I need one from blank.
- 15:33Speaker 3: And they probably won't get it together. Yeah. All of
- 15:36Speaker 3: us were still here except that a long time ago.
- 15:39Speaker 3: I need my Sunday stretch. I'm going to be mad
- 15:41Speaker 3: for three hours. I'm going to move on.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Dude, if Bijan played 20 years ago, he would be
- 15:45Speaker 2: everybody's favorite player.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Yes.
- 15:48Speaker 2: This is a man stuck in the wrong time period.
- 15:52Speaker 2: That's the guy you want to pretend like you are
- 15:55Speaker 2: when you are outside. It is amazing to watch that
- 15:59Speaker 2: guy play football.
- 16:01Speaker 1: He'd been out there with one-legged Kirk Cousins.
- 16:05Speaker 2: He's been out there with, does Michael Penix have any legs?
- 16:09Speaker 3: I was about to say, one arm Michael Penix.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I don't really know. With a do-rag.
- 16:14Speaker 2: A do-rag handed him the ball.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Yeah, the do-rag stuff is interesting because I expected Mike's
- 16:20Speaker 3: hair to be in a lot worse spaced The first
- 16:24Speaker 3: time I saw it, I was like, bro, you got
- 16:26Speaker 3: your shit down to your eyebrows. Why are you wearing
- 16:28Speaker 3: this all the time?
- 16:30Speaker 1: No, well, what he said was it got to be
- 16:31Speaker 1: a thing.
- 16:32Speaker 3: That's right.
- 16:34Speaker 1: People, and he was just fine. You'll never see me
- 16:35Speaker 1: without the do-rag then.
- 16:37Speaker 3: And we might never see him again, either. No, no. Personally,
- 16:43Speaker 3: if he's healthy, I would much rather see Penix play.
- 16:46Speaker 3: But it doesn't seem like anyone has really broached the
- 16:52Speaker 3: idea that he would be the starting quarterback this season.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I know his injury was late, and this is his
- 16:57Speaker 3: third ACL tear in five years.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm assuming he's not going to play next year.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Right, but the fact that we're all just like, eh,
- 17:03Speaker 3: all right, well, they did that, and we're done. It's like, really?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Hey, man, they got Tua for a dollar.
- 17:10Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Like, it was there. Yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Tua... Can they start doing, I guess he was already
- 17:17Speaker 2: in Miami, so they don't need to. Can they do
- 17:19Speaker 2: a tour like they did with Kirk Cousins and start
- 17:21Speaker 2: making him wear all them chains and shit and try
- 17:23Speaker 2: to act like he for the culture?
- 17:25Speaker 3: I hope not, because that was embarrassing.
- 17:29Speaker 1: That was the saddest that was sad.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Bro I'm like do y'all know who this man's daddy
- 17:33Speaker 3: is like do y'all know like what he's about you
- 17:35Speaker 3: can google like there's there's Kirk Cousins commercials where he's
- 17:39Speaker 3: doing stuff for the fake Donald Trump like for car
- 17:41Speaker 3: dealerships in Minnesota this guy's not wearing chains he's laughing
- 17:47Speaker 3: at all this shit behind his back he's gonna go
- 17:49Speaker 3: give some money to Donald like I that shit was
- 17:51Speaker 3: so lame I really can't get over it still sometimes.
- 17:55Speaker 2: It was tough by the way while I'm thinking about
- 17:57Speaker 2: it um You got any thoughts on the Ravens? And they, hey,
- 18:06Speaker 2: we still got our receipt. Let me get that back.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I got a warranty. They knew they was getting an
- 18:13Speaker 2: open box special. And then they got, without touching the box,
- 18:16Speaker 2: they looked deep in the box and they was like, ooh.
- 18:20Speaker 2: i don't know about the price i mean they did
- 18:23Speaker 2: pay a lot for that muffler i'll give them that
- 18:25Speaker 2: like like especially for them to be getting it out
- 18:27Speaker 2: the open box that was a really high price and
- 18:30Speaker 2: somebody was like.
- 18:31Speaker 1: What are you fucking you better go about you better
- 18:34Speaker 1: go over there and talk to.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Him yeah like the way max calls it it was
- 18:38Speaker 3: what he said like five minutes after they agreed to
- 18:41Speaker 3: the the contract extension that that the deal was off
- 18:43Speaker 3: and Look, I got to say, this one, I think,
- 18:47Speaker 3: activated some of my previous inner scumbag tendencies. I was like,
- 18:53Speaker 3: what's the big deal, bro? It's not official until 4 p.m.
- 18:56Speaker 3: And I thought about it like, that's wrong. Because there
- 19:01Speaker 3: was one person here, one entity here who actually got hurt,
- 19:04Speaker 3: and that was Max Crosby. Yeah. Because- Now you go
- 19:10Speaker 3: back to the Raiders, it's just simple negotiation. You're not
- 19:13Speaker 3: going to get the same deal that you were before.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I'm sure when they were shopping him after the Raiders reneged,
- 19:18Speaker 3: they weren't getting the same offers that they were before.
- 19:20Speaker 3: So everyone just goes back. But I did find the
- 19:24Speaker 3: amount of crying by my colleagues in the media is
- 19:29Speaker 3: in favor of the Raiders, just be like, really? Y'all,
- 19:32Speaker 3: y'all really like fired up about like the Raiders, like getting,
- 19:36Speaker 3: you know, it was, it was grimy. It was grimy,
- 19:39Speaker 3: but it was so one-sided. It was so one-sided that
- 19:43Speaker 3: I started thinking like, what, happens if Max plays, like,
- 19:46Speaker 3: six games this year?
- 19:47Speaker 1: Right. So that's the thing.
- 19:49Speaker 2: What if there really was something in the– like, so, yes,
- 19:54Speaker 2: they know that he had an injury. They know he's
- 19:58Speaker 2: supposed to be back before training camp. But what if
- 20:00Speaker 2: there was something else, right?
- 20:02Speaker 1: Right. Like, what if they got in there and were like, oh, hey,
- 20:05Speaker 1: I didn't know– That was the thing, right?
- 20:08Speaker 2: What I found funny, and Crosby's been on his podcast
- 20:12Speaker 2: talking about this, as he said, he was there for
- 20:15Speaker 2: five hours before mentor, the coach, or DaCosta, the GM,
- 20:20Speaker 2: came and talked to him. And I am just imagining
- 20:22Speaker 2: those two.
- 20:23Speaker 3: You tell them.
- 20:24Speaker 1: You tell them. You tell them.
- 20:25Speaker 3: No, no.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Hey, look, look. Hey, I got a meeting. Let me
- 20:29Speaker 1: know how it goes.
- 20:32Speaker 2: They are all, does Max Crosby have any tattoos on
- 20:35Speaker 2: his face?
- 20:36Speaker 3: If he doesn't, I can see it.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Yeah, if he doesn't, I can see it. You know
- 20:41Speaker 1: what I'm saying? They're like, yo, man, you go talk
- 20:43Speaker 1: to him, man. No, no, no, I ain't going to
- 20:46Speaker 1: do it.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I ain't going to do it. And so, yeah, it is,
- 20:50Speaker 2: it was, it's not the end of the world. I
- 20:53Speaker 2: think you are fair in terms of making that presentation.
- 20:57Speaker 1: It's not the end of the world.
- 20:59Speaker 2: The question is whether the Ravens really needed to do
- 21:02Speaker 2: it because he and Trey Hendrickson, they're both whites.
- 21:05Speaker 1: It's not even.
- 21:07Speaker 2: That they seem like the same player, but if you
- 21:09Speaker 2: tell somebody there's one good edge rusher and there's another
- 21:12Speaker 2: good edge rusher, I don't think the general public really
- 21:14Speaker 2: could delineate the two unless one of them is like
- 21:16Speaker 2: Miles Garrett.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Yeah. Basically, the Ravens, they decided that the extra run
- 21:21Speaker 3: defense was not worth two first round picks. And honestly,
- 21:28Speaker 3: I thought that this trade was very risky for the Ravens.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Cause coming off of, you know, a meniscus, a meniscus
- 21:35Speaker 3: repair is not, it's not like some small thing, especially.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Like that was, that was what really did it
- 21:40Speaker 1: in for Derrick Rose.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, JJ McCarthy missed all last season. Like
- 21:44Speaker 3: they didn't even bother putting them out there after he
- 21:45Speaker 3: tore his meniscus.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:47Speaker 3: And, And it's not just, like, that Max plays defensive end.
- 21:52Speaker 3: And he's, you know, he's going to be 30 next year. Like,
- 21:57Speaker 3: he's someone that has played over 90% of snaps in
- 22:01Speaker 3: over half of his games in the NFL. Yeah, because
- 22:04Speaker 3: I was looking it up. Since he was drafted in 2019,
- 22:07Speaker 3: he's played 12th most snaps of any defense player in
- 22:11Speaker 3: the NFL. The next highest, like, defensive lineman or edge
- 22:14Speaker 3: rusher is TJ Watt, like, close to 30.
- 22:15Speaker 4: So.
- 22:17Speaker 3: That's a lot of mileage. And I just found it
- 22:22Speaker 3: interesting that we couldn't pause and say, okay, this was
- 22:25Speaker 3: some dirty shit. Yes, it was not a good look
- 22:29Speaker 3: by the Ravens, clearly by the way that they handled
- 22:32Speaker 3: it when Max got there. They sent his ass to D.C.
- 22:35Speaker 1: And then drove him to Baltimore. Yo, that to me...
- 22:38Speaker 1: That was crazy.
- 22:39Speaker 2: So that's an underrated thing about NFL teams and free
- 22:42Speaker 2: agency and stuff is... That sort of thing, right? Like
- 22:46Speaker 2: people getting your flight reservations right, right? What class of ticket.
- 22:50Speaker 1: They give you, so forth and so on.
- 22:52Speaker 2: And there are teams that are like the team that'll
- 22:54Speaker 2: put you, I'm using that as a direct example, but
- 22:57Speaker 2: the team that'll put you on spirit.
- 22:59Speaker 1: There are those teams.
- 23:00Speaker 2: And so one of the things I think that made
- 23:04Speaker 2: the backlash against the move so strong is that people
- 23:06Speaker 2: have been looking for a reason to take the Baltimore Ravens,
- 23:09Speaker 2: this organization that we all thought so highly about, and
- 23:12Speaker 2: apparently behind the scenes it's descended.
- 23:13Speaker 1: More and more into an amateur hour.
- 23:16Speaker 2: And there were a lot of people in the league
- 23:18Speaker 2: who I think were happy to celebrate that and then
- 23:20Speaker 2: use media members to say that, and then everybody figured
- 23:23Speaker 2: out that the people who know were saying this sort
- 23:25Speaker 2: of thing, and then it goes.
- 23:27Speaker 1: But flying somebody into D.C. rather than Baltimore, that feels
- 23:32Speaker 1: like amateur hour.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and as someone who's spent a lot of time
- 23:36Speaker 3: growing up near Baltimore, that's not a close drive. Depending
- 23:42Speaker 3: on the traffic, that could be a very far drive.
- 23:45Speaker 3: And BWI, it's an international airport, you know? It's probably
- 23:50Speaker 3: 15 minutes away from the Ravens stadium, maybe 20 minutes
- 23:52Speaker 3: from their practice facility. I don't know what happened there,
- 23:56Speaker 3: but it really did seem like amateur hour. And the
- 24:01Speaker 3: piece that I guess I'm kind of stuck on as
- 24:04Speaker 3: far as how I feel towards this in relation to
- 24:06Speaker 3: Max is When did the Ravens know that they weren't
- 24:10Speaker 3: going to go through with this? Because if it's any
- 24:14Speaker 3: time other than the time frame in which he was at,
- 24:20Speaker 3: or NBC headed to Baltimore in this time frame, that's grimy.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Because you didn't have to fly him out there.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Well, I think what probably happened was they decided before
- 24:30Speaker 2: he got on the plane, but there was somebody in
- 24:32Speaker 2: the office that was still a holdout and was like, well, look,
- 24:35Speaker 2: let's just get the MRI. And then we decide, right?
- 24:39Speaker 2: Hoping that it's not going to be like somebody else's MRI, right?
- 24:42Speaker 1: Like they're going to get in there and be like,
- 24:43Speaker 1: oh man, it don't even look like he had no surgery, right?
- 24:46Speaker 1: Like that's what- That's kind of what it does.
- 24:49Speaker 3: That's exactly what it is though. Because I was talking
- 24:54Speaker 3: to a friend of mine and he was like, okay,
- 24:58Speaker 3: so what is this? Like, is Max done? Like, he
- 25:01Speaker 3: can't pass the physical? I was like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 25:04Speaker 3: He can't pass a two first round pick physical. Yes.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Third round pick?
- 25:08Speaker 2: Well, that's where I was surprised. And I think I
- 25:11Speaker 2: said this when we talked about this with Danny Parkins
- 25:13Speaker 2: last week. I was surprised that the terms just didn't
- 25:16Speaker 2: change because this does happen. That somebody looked at the
- 25:19Speaker 2: environment like, no, no, no, this ain't going to work.
- 25:21Speaker 2: So how about we make this a one and a three, right?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Or one and a two. No, they decided they wanted
- 25:27Speaker 2: out on the whole thing.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:31Speaker 2: And if you believe what the story people are telling you,
- 25:34Speaker 2: Wasn't a story that they were going to try to
- 25:35Speaker 2: give both Crosby and Trey Hendrickson.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Now that's a damn lie.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:40Speaker 2: As Dominique, as Dominique put it, the, the Ravens try
- 25:44Speaker 2: to go to season two.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Why are we going to the dots, baby? We go
- 25:47Speaker 1: into the docs.
- 25:49Speaker 3: See, see my, and I know, I know like I, I,
- 25:53Speaker 3: my brain's not wired. Right. Cause my immediate thing was,
- 25:56Speaker 3: why are the Ravens saying anything at all? Like, why
- 25:58Speaker 3: is Eric Costa going on TV? Talk about this shit. Like,
- 26:02Speaker 3: I would say, man, Max Crosby technically was never a
- 26:05Speaker 3: Baltimore Raven. He's never had a contract signed with our team.
- 26:11Speaker 3: I'm not answering questions about this. I'm not allowed.
- 26:13Speaker 1: We don't talk about other teams' players.
- 26:14Speaker 3: We can't talk about other teams' players. They'll sit all
- 26:17Speaker 3: the time. And then guess what? There's so much shit
- 26:21Speaker 3: going on outside. People forget. By the end of the weekend,
- 26:24Speaker 3: you don't have to say anything.
- 26:26Speaker 1: It's a war going on outside. No man is safe.
- 26:29Speaker 3: And then there's people like, oh, you know, no one
- 26:30Speaker 3: was ever going to do Business Ravens again. Well, I
- 26:32Speaker 3: know that's not true because Trey Henderson just did. So
- 26:36Speaker 3: that makes it green.
- 26:37Speaker 1: They called him and he was like, shit.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:41Speaker 1: My name's Paul and that's between y'all.
- 26:44Speaker 2: He was like, y'all got that money though?
- 26:48Speaker 1: All right, I'll take it. I'll take it. So when
- 26:51Speaker 1: I was, I remember when I was little, there was a,
- 26:54Speaker 1: this is.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Very interesting how radio stations get kind of traffic in
- 26:57Speaker 2: the early 90s. I want to say Luther Vandross was
- 27:00Speaker 2: coming to town in Houston to do a show. And
- 27:02Speaker 2: they was giving away tickets for Luther Vandross. If you
- 27:04Speaker 2: heard the song or whatever it was, you know, or
- 27:07Speaker 2: I forget exactly what the gimmick was to get the
- 27:09Speaker 2: Luther Vandross tickets, but they weren't only giving away Luther
- 27:12Speaker 2: Vandross tickets.
- 27:13Speaker 1: So anyway, somebody called up once.
- 27:16Speaker 2: And she had won the new DJ Quick tape.
- 27:19Speaker 1: I think it was way too funky. The one with
- 27:21Speaker 1: Just Like Compton on it.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Great. I've just listened to his albums the past few weeks.
- 27:27Speaker 1: So she calls up and she's like, yo. And they're like, congratulations.
- 27:30Speaker 1: You just won a DJ Quick CD.
- 27:33Speaker 2: And she was like, okay. I was trying to win
- 27:37Speaker 2: these tickets. Because let's be honest. If you call in
- 27:39Speaker 2: to win Luther Vandross tickets... You're not giving that up
- 27:44Speaker 2: for a DJ quick CD, right?
- 27:47Speaker 3: No shot.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Yeah, this is not the same exact rules. She hung up.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Couple songs playing on the radio. They come back. Somebody's like, yo, 97.9,
- 27:54Speaker 1: what's your name? And he was like, yo, man, my
- 27:56Speaker 1: name is whatever. She don't want that DJ quick CD.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I want it.
- 28:00Speaker 3: I want it.
- 28:01Speaker 1: And so he.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Went and came up to the radio station and picked
- 28:04Speaker 2: up that DJ quick CD.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Trey Henderson was like, hey, let me get that DJ
- 28:07Speaker 1: quick CD.
- 28:08Speaker 3: Absolutely. And it's the same DJ Quick CD that she
- 28:12Speaker 3: was going to get. Yeah. And he's been looking for
- 28:16Speaker 3: a DJ Quick CD for about three years now. Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Remember two dogs, one bone with the Steelers? Mike Tomlin,
- 28:24Speaker 2: Mike Wallace, and Antonio Brown? Oh, yeah. Only one of
- 28:27Speaker 2: them was going to get the extension. I think Mike
- 28:29Speaker 2: Wallace was offering. He said, no, Antonio Brown was like, let.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Me get that. Yeah.
- 28:34Speaker 3: Yeah. Steelers, not an interesting team. What the hell are
- 28:37Speaker 3: they doing? Steelers.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Oh, well, coming up next, we can talk about what
- 28:40Speaker 2: they're doing, and I have a fun, fun, fun Minnesota
- 28:45Speaker 2: Vikings detail for you.
- 28:47Speaker 3: Okay.

- 31:47Speaker 2: And so, like, You would think that maybe you need
- 31:51Speaker 2: to get like a Charlie Batch in that quarterback role
- 31:53Speaker 2: by Josh McCown, right? Somebody that people really like. It
- 31:57Speaker 2: can smooth things out. But the Vikings said, no, we'll
- 32:00Speaker 2: get Carson Wentz.
- 32:03Speaker 3: They brought him back. They brought him back. Kyler Murray,
- 32:07Speaker 3: Carson Wentz, and J.J. McCarthy.
- 32:10Speaker 1: That's the quarterback role.
- 32:11Speaker 3: Quarterback role. Yeah, because- I've seen people like, oh, will
- 32:14Speaker 3: someone trade for J.J. McCarthy? Hell no. No. Because this
- 32:22Speaker 3: is something that is not always fun to do, but
- 32:25Speaker 3: you have to be honest with yourself, I think, when
- 32:27Speaker 3: it's going on. Because Nate and I, we were labeled
- 32:31Speaker 3: state terrorists by Vikings fans last year because they finished 9-8.
- 32:37Speaker 3: Shout out to everything that wasn't J.J. McCarthy on that
- 32:41Speaker 3: team last year. To get to 9-8, they finished the
- 32:44Speaker 3: season by beating your Detroit Lions in a game where
- 32:47Speaker 3: they had less than 10 passing yards. Yeah, I remember
- 32:50Speaker 3: that shit. That's a good team. I mean, sure, they
- 32:53Speaker 3: won 14 games the year before, and now we got
- 32:55Speaker 3: people saying stuff like... Kyler Murray's no Sam Darnold, which
- 33:00Speaker 3: is like, okay, I wouldn't say that.
- 33:02Speaker 2: We've talked about this. He was never down that bad.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Never, never. Because if he was, he wouldn't be in
- 33:09Speaker 3: the NFL anymore.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Ever, ever.
- 33:12Speaker 2: He'd be somewhere in Turner, that 4-6-3 double play.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Man, I have a conspiracy theory about that. The A's
- 33:20Speaker 3: definitely draft him so they wouldn't have to pay anybody
- 33:22Speaker 3: that year. That seems pretty clear now, how things have
- 33:25Speaker 3: gone there. But... It's the idea that you could go
- 33:30Speaker 3: back into this season with J.J. McCarthy as your starting quarterback. No,
- 33:33Speaker 3: you can't. You absolutely could not. And it's not just
- 33:37Speaker 3: because he was bad. And he was bad, like historically bad.
- 33:41Speaker 3: And I don't even mean that just from a numbers standpoint.
- 33:44Speaker 3: I mean from an operations standpoint where you're in the
- 33:48Speaker 3: first half of the season and they call a run
- 33:52Speaker 3: play and J.J. 's turning right and the whole other
- 33:54Speaker 3: team 10 players are turning left. You didn't play last year.
- 33:57Speaker 3: All you had to do was read. And you still
- 34:01Speaker 3: don't know, like, the plays. Okay. That's a huge red
- 34:05Speaker 3: flag there. And then I knew it was over when
- 34:10Speaker 3: he had– do you remember his gritting escapade from last year?
- 34:13Speaker 4: Yes.
- 34:13Speaker 3: When he scored a touchdown?
- 34:14Speaker 1: They told him not to.
- 34:15Speaker 3: And he said– he came out and he said, you know,
- 34:19Speaker 3: when I'm feeling myself– It made me want to gritty
- 34:22Speaker 3: more because they told me not to do it. And
- 34:23Speaker 3: I was like, I know exactly what kind of motherfucker
- 34:25Speaker 3: you are. And you're not going to be here next year.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you won't be around next year.
- 34:32Speaker 3: And they don't like you. Right. And when they got,
- 34:35Speaker 3: they played Green Bay at Green Bay in back half
- 34:38Speaker 3: the season. And Micah Parsons, scary guy. But I don't
- 34:43Speaker 3: really see many quarterbacks play. And I can feel how
- 34:46Speaker 3: scared they are. Like I, you, we, we can't come
- 34:50Speaker 3: back from that. So sure. Is Kyler Murray, you know,
- 34:53Speaker 3: the best quarterback in the league? No, but he's probably
- 34:56Speaker 3: about three times better than what you had for, for
- 34:59Speaker 3: a million dollars a year. And now this is a
- 35:01Speaker 3: spot where if things work out, boom, there's your quarterback
- 35:04Speaker 3: for the next four or five years. But sometimes, sometimes
- 35:08Speaker 3: like people need to look at it as in terms
- 35:09Speaker 3: of if your job was on the line, would you
- 35:12Speaker 3: sit there and say, we're going to try and fix
- 35:15Speaker 3: this J.J. McCarthy thing?
- 35:16Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Because the answer is a big, fat hell no.
- 35:20Speaker 2: Well, let me ask this, though, because those Shanahan-McVay types
- 35:24Speaker 2: are very similar to Bill Walsh types.
- 35:26Speaker 1: They just want you to run the system, do what
- 35:28Speaker 1: I said.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Kyler Murray is not typically that type of quarterback, but
- 35:32Speaker 2: at the same time, he wasn't the only option that
- 35:36Speaker 2: was out there, and they still said, yeah, give me that.
- 35:40Speaker 1: How do you think that he and O'Connell work together?
- 35:45Speaker 3: If it's better than last year, I think that Kevin
- 35:47Speaker 3: will be feeling pretty good. And as long as one
- 35:49Speaker 3: of them is feeling pretty good, then you can kind
- 35:52Speaker 3: of mitigate that. Although, I do wonder sometimes if the
- 35:56Speaker 3: Kyler stuff has jumped the shark to a degree, only
- 36:00Speaker 3: because the gaming stuff really got out of hand, I thought,
- 36:05Speaker 3: with the way that some of us were talking about it.
- 36:07Speaker 3: And I know that Look, when it's in your contract,
- 36:09Speaker 3: it's obviously real to a degree, right? But, man, it
- 36:15Speaker 3: kind of felt like we started talking about this guy
- 36:17Speaker 3: as if he didn't care about football, which I just
- 36:20Speaker 3: vehemently don't think is accurate. Obviously, it didn't end well.
- 36:26Speaker 3: But it also didn't end so bad that you need
- 36:29Speaker 3: to cut him for nothing.
- 36:32Speaker 2: No, I just think people don't like him. I think
- 36:36Speaker 2: the gaming thing was an issue. But my thing was,
- 36:39Speaker 2: but you kept him, right?
- 36:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:42Speaker 1: You did pay him the money. Yeah, you did pay
- 36:44Speaker 1: him the money.
- 36:44Speaker 2: The reason I had a problem with the cause is
- 36:46Speaker 2: that all it did was embarrass everybody. And I don't
- 36:49Speaker 2: know if it made him stop playing video games, right?
- 36:51Speaker 2: But in the end, how he gets there is how
- 36:54Speaker 2: he gets there.
- 36:56Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 36:56Speaker 3: But, okay.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I just... And they got Brian Flores up there, too.
- 37:03Speaker 1: People don't like him either. Like, they just.
- 37:07Speaker 2: It's a real Joe Friday justification up there in Minnesota.
- 37:10Speaker 1: They're just like, man, just do your job, man. Don't
- 37:11Speaker 1: talk to me, man. Just do your job, man.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Right, exactly. But they all know if the three of
- 37:17Speaker 3: those guys, Kevin O'Connell, You know what? I'll throw Justin
- 37:20Speaker 3: Jefferson in there, too, because Justin Jefferson, character-wise, he's about
- 37:25Speaker 3: as good as he gets in the NFL. He will
- 37:27Speaker 3: admit to you, last year was not his best season,
- 37:29Speaker 3: on top of the J.J. McCarthy stuff. He did have
- 37:31Speaker 3: some very uncharacteristic drafts, but if those four guys get
- 37:35Speaker 3: together before the season and say, hey, look, Justin, we're
- 37:39Speaker 3: going to need your positivity to be the glue on
- 37:40Speaker 3: this sometimes, but we've got A lot of potential to
- 37:45Speaker 3: make a fuck ton of money here if we get
- 37:48Speaker 3: this season right. Because you're going to get Kevin Connell extension.
- 37:51Speaker 3: You're going to get a Kyler Murray extension. Maybe B-Flow can...
- 37:54Speaker 3: Maybe he gets the monkey off his back and gets
- 37:57Speaker 3: to go do something else. Justin Jefferson's happy. There's a
- 38:02Speaker 3: lot riding on this year. We're talking several hundred million
- 38:06Speaker 3: dollars worth of potential future money on the line. So
- 38:09Speaker 3: I think that'll get them to... to you know just
- 38:12Speaker 3: behave a little bit and i also think like there's
- 38:15Speaker 3: you you don't want to watch your bad quarterback gritting
- 38:18Speaker 3: out there when you just ask.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Them not to you know so like just.
- 38:21Speaker 3: Don't be that and i think that that will be
- 38:24Speaker 3: a big improvement for them.
- 38:25Speaker 2: You know they're like oh you want to dance like
- 38:28Speaker 2: one of them blacks huh okay guess we got guess
- 38:31Speaker 2: we gonna have to treat you like one They bailed
- 38:35Speaker 2: on him. They bailed on him like he was raising
- 38:40Speaker 2: the fist during the National Anthem. And I've watched them
- 38:44Speaker 2: talk themselves into a lot of white boys, man.
- 38:48Speaker 1: A lot of them. Hey, once again, The devil don't
- 38:51Speaker 1: need no advocate.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Right, exactly.
- 38:54Speaker 1: There's one right there for you. Hey, I'm like, man,
- 38:57Speaker 1: if you don't get this white boy out of my face, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Go, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Tell this little black ass to come on up here.
- 39:03Speaker 1: We got a spot for him.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Well, okay, so now that I'm not on Twitter anymore, like,
- 39:07Speaker 3: one of my favorite things to do, like, to just
- 39:09Speaker 3: get my hater quench fulfilled is to go on Reddit
- 39:15Speaker 3: and just look at team fans, like, after... either a
- 39:18Speaker 3: weird win or a bad loss to just see how
- 39:20Speaker 3: they're responding. Just like tracking Vikings fans during the season,
- 39:24Speaker 3: oh man, they don't get it, man. like they're not
- 39:27Speaker 3: watching these games like we're watching like yeah yeah I
- 39:29Speaker 3: am because I gotta pay rent so I promise you
- 39:31Speaker 3: I'm watching these games dog uh they're not watching these
- 39:35Speaker 3: games they don't understand to oh man like you think
- 39:38Speaker 3: you see a little something more than JJ to the
- 39:40Speaker 3: end of the season like is JJ going to be
- 39:42Speaker 3: a starter next year? No, he's not going to be
- 39:45Speaker 3: the starter. And you shouldn't want him to be the
- 39:47Speaker 3: starter either. You really want to see if you can
- 39:51Speaker 3: fix the reclamation project on this, or would you rather
- 39:54Speaker 3: just try something else? And I think more fans need
- 39:57Speaker 3: to think about that sometimes. You get so caught up.
- 40:00Speaker 3: And like, oh, do I have the right QB? Well,
- 40:04Speaker 3: we picked a quarterback, and it's going to feel bad
- 40:06Speaker 3: if we don't have the right quarterback, so I'm going
- 40:07Speaker 3: to feel like this is the right quarterback. But it's
- 40:11Speaker 3: a lot. Actually, if you just admit to yourself, no,
- 40:12Speaker 3: this ain't good enough, let's try something else. Instead of
- 40:14Speaker 3: doing this for two.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Three years.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:16Speaker 2: I just can't, like, I didn't watch enough to realize
- 40:18Speaker 2: that he was so bad that it was like, nah.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Can't do it. Literally cannot do this again.
- 40:24Speaker 2: No.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Like, that is the.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Like, I remember when that happened with E.J. Manuel, and
- 40:29Speaker 2: it was clear that he was throwing him hospital balls,
- 40:32Speaker 2: and like, my buddy Steve White, God rest his soul,
- 40:35Speaker 2: he was like, man, they gotta get him out of
- 40:36Speaker 2: here before he gets somebody hurt.
- 40:38Speaker 3: Yeah. Seriously. I mean, like, J.J. McCarthy, oh, man. I
- 40:43Speaker 3: was about to say his numbers were... about on par
- 40:46Speaker 3: with Shador Sanders in my head, but no, he's about
- 40:49Speaker 3: twice as intense as QBR.
- 40:50Speaker 1: You couldn't help it.
- 40:51Speaker 3: You couldn't help it. No, no, no, because during the season,
- 40:52Speaker 3: like that was like my thing. I was like, bro,
- 40:54Speaker 3: like you traded up in the first round to get
- 40:57Speaker 3: this quarterback who was playing as bad as, you know,
- 41:01Speaker 3: a fifth round rookie. But no, his, his QBR was twice.
- 41:05Speaker 3: That was twice. Nevermind.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Hey, right fast, man.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Before we get out of here, I want to talk
- 41:12Speaker 2: to the people about this.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I don't know if they know this is going on.
- 41:16Speaker 2: There is currently a labor dispute between the National Football
- 41:20Speaker 2: League and the refs, referees, zebras, hall monitors, snitches. Anyway,
- 41:29Speaker 2: I don't know what's going to happen before the season starts,
- 41:33Speaker 2: but a report has emerged that the NFL is already
- 41:38Speaker 2: beginning to look into hiring replacement refs.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Scabs is what people call.
- 41:46Speaker 2: And regardless of your feelings about organized labor and solidarity
- 41:50Speaker 2: within those fronts and so forth and so on, I
- 41:55Speaker 2: would assume that the leak about replacement referees came from
- 41:59Speaker 2: the NFL as a tactic to try to get the
- 42:03Speaker 2: referees to bow down because they're like, yo, we'll just
- 42:06Speaker 2: go get another set of you. And Charles, I'm just
- 42:11Speaker 2: curious if... You remember the last time we had replacement referees,
- 42:21Speaker 2: because I feel like anyone who remembers the last time
- 42:24Speaker 2: we had replacement referees would understand that there is no
- 42:28Speaker 2: hollow or threat that the NFL could send the referees
- 42:32Speaker 2: other than, well, we'll just go get replacement referees.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Because what was it, four.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Weeks that we had the replacement refs? I want to
- 42:41Speaker 2: say it was in 2012. That we had those replacement refs. Oh,
- 42:45Speaker 2: my God. Play the yackety sacks. That was a learning
- 42:51Speaker 2: lesson for everybody.
- 42:53Speaker 3: It was.
- 42:53Speaker 2: If you think the refs are bad, that doesn't mean
- 42:56Speaker 2: they aren't better than every other option in those games.
- 42:59Speaker 3: Yeah. Sucked, man. Yeah. But here's where I've been thinking
- 43:05Speaker 3: about since you... Honestly, I didn't even know this until
- 43:08Speaker 3: we were talking about this before the show, but... So
- 43:11Speaker 3: the replacement ref thing was a disaster. How much of
- 43:15Speaker 3: it do you remember? Because I remember one play, you know?
- 43:18Speaker 2: I remember consistently that it was like, hey, we got
- 43:23Speaker 2: a problem here.
- 43:24Speaker 1: But of course, the play we all remember. I always
- 43:27Speaker 1: talk about on.
- 43:28Speaker 2: This show, like national television exposes everything. So for those
- 43:32Speaker 2: who don't remember, it was the Packers against the Seahawks.
- 43:37Speaker 1: And I want to say.
- 43:38Speaker 2: The Packers had thrown a Hail Mary into the end zone, right?
- 43:42Speaker 1: It was ultimately called the Fail Mary.
- 43:44Speaker 2: And it was one of those kind of sort of
- 43:46Speaker 2: simultaneous possession situations.
- 43:50Speaker 1: And so it was the, yeah, it was the Packers
- 43:54Speaker 1: that threw it in.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Okay.
- 43:55Speaker 4: Okay.
- 43:56Speaker 2: It seemed very clearly after all was said and done
- 43:59Speaker 2: that the Packers had made the catch and that they
- 44:02Speaker 2: won the game. It was because Mike Silver, that picture
- 44:04Speaker 2: of Mike Silver talking to Aaron Rodgers on the field
- 44:07Speaker 2: after the game. So it seemed clear that that had happened.
- 44:11Speaker 2: But the refs weren't sure because it was a simultaneous
- 44:13Speaker 2: possessive situation.
- 44:14Speaker 1: So two refs start.
- 44:16Speaker 2: Running toward the plate and both of them are putting
- 44:20Speaker 2: their hands above their heads in order to make the signal.
- 44:24Speaker 2: One of them, I think the one that was from
- 44:26Speaker 2: farther away, was going to come in and had his
- 44:29Speaker 2: hands going up to call a touchdown.
- 44:31Speaker 1: But the other one who was closer was putting.
- 44:34Speaker 2: His hands over his head to do the thing where
- 44:37Speaker 2: you cross your hands so you begin to say it
- 44:39Speaker 2: was a touchback.
- 44:40Speaker 1: And the possession's going the other way.
- 44:42Speaker 2: The dude that was going to call the touchdown saw
- 44:45Speaker 2: the other dude cross his hands over his head, and
- 44:48Speaker 2: so touchdown man played follow the leader because he didn't
- 44:52Speaker 2: have no confidence in his call, and then he went
- 44:55Speaker 2: and did it, and then a third ref came in,
- 44:57Speaker 2: and he was all lost on what to do, and
- 44:59Speaker 2: then they huddled, and then they decided, okay, we'll just
- 45:02Speaker 2: call this an interception, and there were professional refs out there, but.
- 45:08Speaker 1: The next game.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:09Speaker 2: Cause it had to be fixed because it was so
- 45:12Speaker 2: embarrassing how bad the replacement reps were.
- 45:15Speaker 3: No, they were bad. And I, like, I remember that play, like,
- 45:19Speaker 3: and specifically the huddle up. Cause I was watching that,
- 45:22Speaker 3: you know, cause, cause I was like 2012. So I was,
- 45:24Speaker 3: I was like 18, 19, man. I was like, I'm
- 45:27Speaker 3: watching that game with some friends and we've been there before.
- 45:30Speaker 3: We're huddled up.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Okay.
- 45:31Speaker 4: Hold on. My bad.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:33Speaker 1: It was my bad.
- 45:33Speaker 2: It was Russell Wilson.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Yeah. Okay.
- 45:37Speaker 1: So Seattle scored.
- 45:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:39Speaker 1: I got it backwards. The one guy was coming.
- 45:41Speaker 4: That's right.
- 45:42Speaker 1: The one guy was coming in to make the right
- 45:43Speaker 1: call that it was a touchback.
- 45:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:46Speaker 1: But the other ref did the, it looked like a sitcom.
- 45:51Speaker 3: Yes. Sitcom.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Like it looked like, it looked like Homer Simpson would
- 45:53Speaker 2: have been like, what if Homer was a referee?
- 45:55Speaker 3: And, and ultimately like, You're exhibiting the behavior of shitty 18,
- 46:01Speaker 3: 19-year-old boys in that situation. Okay.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Okay.
- 46:03Speaker 3: We got caught. Yes, I did see you talking to her,
- 46:09Speaker 3: but we're going to say this. We're going to run
- 46:11Speaker 3: a play to get her out of it.
- 46:12Speaker 2: No.
- 46:13Speaker 3: The problem is We know that this happened because we
- 46:18Speaker 3: were still all watching these games. That's the problem. This
- 46:23Speaker 3: is how I know I'm still a little bit... I
- 46:26Speaker 3: still got sports sometimes weighing too heavy on my soul
- 46:29Speaker 3: because I functionally treat the referee unions. My first job
- 46:35Speaker 3: at Vox, I was there when the Vox union got started.
- 46:39Speaker 3: I've been at other workplaces where we started to start unions.
- 46:42Speaker 3: I believe in this stuff. But that ref union, I'd
- 46:45Speaker 3: be looking at like a police union, man. That's like, man.
- 46:50Speaker 3: And I know that that's too far. It's obviously way
- 46:52Speaker 3: too far. But, man, it's just not stopping me from,
- 46:56Speaker 3: you know, watching these games. And that's my moral cross
- 47:00Speaker 3: to bear. I'm still working on it. You know, it's funny.
- 47:04Speaker 1: I mean, we still go watch them.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Of course, of course.
- 47:07Speaker 1: But the refs are going to win again.
- 47:09Speaker 3: Yes, they are.
- 47:10Speaker 2: The refs have learned. All we got to do is
- 47:12Speaker 2: wait for these bums. Look, this is the thing about
- 47:17Speaker 2: levels of expansion of football. And what I mean by
- 47:19Speaker 2: expansion in this case is I'm using like the UFL
- 47:23Speaker 2: or whatever it is, or the XFL, whichever one of them, FL,
- 47:26Speaker 2: all of them FLs. The issue that those leagues have
- 47:29Speaker 2: and why none of them will ever be any good
- 47:31Speaker 2: is there aren't enough good quarterbacks to go around for
- 47:34Speaker 2: the NFL, let alone for those lower levels. Like there
- 47:37Speaker 2: are good enough players and maybe not offensive linemen, but
- 47:39Speaker 2: they're generally good enough players on those levels to put
- 47:42Speaker 2: together an entertaining football game because we see it in college.
- 47:44Speaker 2: But there aren't enough good quarterbacks to make it work.
- 47:48Speaker 2: And so the games always wind up being terrible. there
- 47:51Speaker 2: aren't enough good referees to go around in the NFL
- 47:54Speaker 2: as it stands. And you're going to break out a whole,
- 47:56Speaker 2: like the whole B team all at once. And by
- 47:59Speaker 2: the way, a B team that doesn't really practice to
- 48:01Speaker 2: be the B team. No, these cats just showed up.
- 48:04Speaker 2: This shit is like one of them Keanu Reeves movies.
- 48:06Speaker 3: They got, they got, they got real jobs, you know, like,
- 48:09Speaker 3: cause my, my girl, she, she's been watching football for
- 48:12Speaker 3: the first time for the past couple of years. And,
- 48:15Speaker 3: you know, she started Googling like the referees, like when
- 48:17Speaker 3: she sees them on TV and she's like, all these
- 48:19Speaker 3: guys are like lawyers or like, you know, they have
- 48:21Speaker 3: like big businesses like outside of this referee job, which
- 48:24Speaker 3: also I think plays into why people don't really care
- 48:27Speaker 3: about this. Cause we know like, like, like seriously, next
- 48:31Speaker 3: time you're watching the NFL game and you see the referees,
- 48:32Speaker 3: just Google their name. They all got some side, some side,
- 48:35Speaker 3: the referee, it's a side business. The referee is the
- 48:39Speaker 3: side business, right? Like they got law firms, like investment firms,
- 48:43Speaker 3: like big money stuff. So, you know, when you start
- 48:46Speaker 3: getting to like the labor relations where, These guys are
- 48:49Speaker 3: making a whole lot of money, and we see it
- 48:51Speaker 3: on the player side with the apathy. I mean, I
- 48:54Speaker 3: could do a whole podcast on that shit with J.C. Tretter.
- 48:59Speaker 3: But we see it like when the money gets to
- 49:02Speaker 3: the point where it's kind of hard to actually hurt
- 49:07Speaker 3: people from taking their jobs away, they're willing to take
- 49:10Speaker 3: that risk and say, no, we'll wait you out and
- 49:13Speaker 3: give it a month. And we'll get to ref fewer
- 49:15Speaker 3: games and the product will be better by the end
- 49:18Speaker 3: of season and everybody will be happy. But the fact
- 49:21Speaker 3: that like we could do this again for the people
- 49:25Speaker 3: who weren't, you know, watching football or football conscious last
- 49:28Speaker 3: time this went around, you're in for a treat. And
- 49:32Speaker 3: it's going to be excruciating. But guess what? I'll see
- 49:35Speaker 3: you next Sunday too.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Staring down the people that beat you the last time
- 49:39Speaker 2: we did this.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Like you would think that they would understand. All right,
- 49:43Speaker 1: hey man, hey man. We'll get it right. You know
- 49:46Speaker 1: what I'm saying?
- 49:47Speaker 2: Let's just, let's just like, we know we got to
- 49:49Speaker 2: get this done. Nah man, they greedy asses just can't
- 49:53Speaker 2: help it. And they will, they will let this product suffer.
- 49:58Speaker 2: so many ways over and over again.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Me and my man Rod have talked about this, that.
- 50:04Speaker 2: The NBA has to answer for everything it does or
- 50:07Speaker 2: does not do in the name of the quality of
- 50:09Speaker 2: the product.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Right. The NFL rarely, if ever, does.
- 50:13Speaker 2: And this is the clearest sign that you don't care
- 50:16Speaker 2: about the actual quality of the product.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Or another example that you don't care much about the
- 50:20Speaker 1: safety of the players.
- 50:22Speaker 3: No, seriously. And it kind of goes back to what
- 50:25Speaker 3: we were talking about at the start. Like, When there's
- 50:28Speaker 3: no financial incentive to behave properly, then why would we
- 50:36Speaker 3: rush on anything? And it's funny because last year, I
- 50:40Speaker 3: feel like I've been having deja vu this offseason because
- 50:43Speaker 3: last year when the NFL PA stuff was going on,
- 50:46Speaker 3: I was having a conversation with my colleagues. He's like,
- 50:51Speaker 3: why does anyone care about this? I'm like, what? What
- 50:54Speaker 3: do you mean? Because, okay, yeah, at this point, the NFLPA,
- 51:02Speaker 3: it basically exists just so the NFL doesn't get sued, right?
- 51:05Speaker 3: That's the only really functioning power has left. But it
- 51:09Speaker 3: can always get worse, dog. They were out here playing
- 51:12Speaker 3: preseason games for free. Training camp wasn't paid back in
- 51:16Speaker 3: the day. You know, it can get so much worse.
- 51:20Speaker 3: And if they didn't have that union or we didn't
- 51:23Speaker 3: have the referee union, I can promise you guys, this
- 51:26Speaker 3: would be a much worse.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Product every Sunday.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Much worse. And, and, and we're about to see this
- 51:33Speaker 3: capitulate to 18 games in a couple of years. Cause
- 51:35Speaker 3: we all know that that's where it's headed. Now that
- 51:37Speaker 3: JC Treader is back in it. I think we got
- 51:40Speaker 3: to think a little more critically and harder about like
- 51:43Speaker 3: what has actually happened to the sport in terms of
- 51:46Speaker 3: like the labor movement here, because like what's going on
- 51:49Speaker 3: with the players, man, that that's, that's kind of scary, man.
- 51:52Speaker 3: Like to see, These people, and my state's people, I
- 51:55Speaker 3: mean specifically like Lloyd Howell, J.C. Treader, they studied labor
- 51:59Speaker 3: relations and have gotten into the business of busting unions. J.C.
- 52:04Speaker 3: Treader has basically destroyed his own union. Lloyd Howell, in
- 52:07Speaker 3: the past, part of the reason they hired him was because.
- 52:10Speaker 1: Now, that was the wild one.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Right. Because he wasn't a union guy. They hired him
- 52:14Speaker 2: because he was a businessman. They wanted one of those.
- 52:16Speaker 3: Specifically, an anti-union guy. And they went, oh, well, he can-
- 52:21Speaker 3: Chained from the inside. Man, that's bullshit. So, you know,
- 52:25Speaker 3: you definitely want these to be protected, but, you know,
- 52:27Speaker 3: I got to work on myself and not look at
- 52:29Speaker 3: the referees as police units. They're just a step down.
- 52:32Speaker 2: By the way, I don't know if you saw this,
- 52:34Speaker 2: and I'll just say this as we head out, that
- 52:37Speaker 2: the Cardinals signed Trey Lance for a one-year deal worth
- 52:41Speaker 2: up to $ 6.
- 52:41Speaker 1: 75 million.
- 52:42Speaker 3: Why are they signing quarterbacks?
- 52:45Speaker 2: Because, I'm just telling you, somebody's going to get ahold
- 52:50Speaker 2: of that Trey Lance and it's going to work. I
- 52:53Speaker 2: don't know who, I don't know when he did not
- 52:54Speaker 2: get it. He did not get a real opportunity to
- 52:56Speaker 2: do this.
- 52:57Speaker 3: He did. Like that's that, that's my, my stance on Trey.
- 53:01Speaker 3: Like y'all making fun of him. Like he broke his leg, man.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Like, yeah, he broke his leg and Kyle Shanahan for
- 53:07Speaker 2: the second time, treated a quarterback like a running back.
- 53:11Speaker 1: I got him out here running power and stuff like this. Right.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Like, something something happened right um but we have not
- 53:19Speaker 2: we have not seen and if there's anybody that i
- 53:21Speaker 2: feel like you get somebody up to snuff jim harbaugh
- 53:24Speaker 2: seems to be sort of dude who could figure that
- 53:27Speaker 2: out and that's why it's somewhat amazing to me that
- 53:29Speaker 2: some of these moves the teams have made and not
- 53:31Speaker 2: one has made like a real trey lance push i
- 53:34Speaker 2: would look so anthony richards is gonna get another chance
- 53:36Speaker 2: too i don't know where they somebody's gonna get a
- 53:39Speaker 2: hold of them.
- 53:40Speaker 3: It's gonna be in indianapolis this year.
- 53:42Speaker 2: You and I are on the same page on that one.
- 53:46Speaker 3: I mean, the Daniel Jones thing. Again, again, that's like
- 53:52Speaker 3: the Kyler thing. I was sitting there like, does no
- 53:55Speaker 3: one think this is ridiculous? And the fact you know
- 53:59Speaker 3: it's ridiculous because ain't nobody trying to sign him on
- 54:02Speaker 3: that transition tag. Any team could have. And the way
- 54:05Speaker 3: that it works is if he agreed to a deal,
- 54:08Speaker 3: the team that signed him wouldn't even have to send
- 54:09Speaker 3: picks back. And nobody bid on that. So you negotiate
- 54:13Speaker 3: against yourself for Daniel Jones. And remember, not only did
- 54:18Speaker 3: he tear his Achilles last year, He was playing on
- 54:20Speaker 3: a broken leg, too.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's already had a torn ACL.
- 54:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 54:26Speaker 2: And he's never been good, not even last year.
- 54:31Speaker 3: See, that's Nate's point, which is also correct. You bet
- 54:35Speaker 3: on Daniel Jones to be good and healthy. Two things
- 54:37Speaker 3: he's notoriously never been. Like, what is this? I got
- 54:42Speaker 3: to say, Chris Ballard, Chris Ballard, he should hold seminars
- 54:46Speaker 3: whenever this GM run ends because He's on year 10.
- 54:52Speaker 3: And how?
- 54:55Speaker 4: How?
- 54:55Speaker 1: Well, here's my thing.
- 54:57Speaker 3: What did he say to keep his job after Jim died?
- 54:59Speaker 3: That's what I want to know.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Here's my thing. So Mrs. Gordon, you got.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Them clips of her on the sideline with the headset on,
- 55:07Speaker 2: which is going to be cute until it's not.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 55:09Speaker 4: Right.
- 55:09Speaker 1: I understand the argument, but that's that's meddlesome behavior. Right.
- 55:13Speaker 2: Like if you don't like the story, you don't like
- 55:16Speaker 2: the person. Let Jerry Jones be sitting up there in
- 55:19Speaker 2: the booth with the headphones on. Talk about I just
- 55:21Speaker 2: want to know what I just want to know. I
- 55:23Speaker 2: just want to know what's happening.
- 55:24Speaker 3: Tom Brady was on the headset with Chip Kelly and
- 55:26Speaker 3: we were looking at that last. It's kind of strange. Yeah.
- 55:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 55:29Speaker 1: But, you know, it's somewhat accused. Yes.
- 55:32Speaker 2: But I tell you, it is what you need to
- 55:33Speaker 2: be doing is sitting there next to Chris Ballard. That's
- 55:37Speaker 2: the person they need to feel like the eye in
- 55:38Speaker 2: the sky don't lie.
- 55:40Speaker 3: I feel like Chris has probably ingratiated himself into the
- 55:44Speaker 3: family at this point. Because my very cynical take when
- 55:48Speaker 3: Jim passed away was, oh, he's going to figure out
- 55:50Speaker 3: a way to keep his job. Man, I'm one of you. Like,
- 55:55Speaker 3: at this point, like, I've been here looking for this
- 55:57Speaker 3: Andrew Luck successor for about 10 years now. I thought
- 56:00Speaker 3: we had something here. And they're letting him do it
- 56:03Speaker 3: one more time. Because also, I guess they're probably looking
- 56:05Speaker 3: at it like this. What the fuck else are we doing?
- 56:06Speaker 3: We traded two first round picks for Sauce Garner. So
- 56:09Speaker 3: I guess this is it, you know?
- 56:11Speaker 1: Yeah. They did do that.
- 56:13Speaker 3: Because that's hopefully why they felt like they had to
- 56:16Speaker 3: pay Daniel Jones probably. Because they thought they had Daniel.
- 56:18Speaker 1: They thought they had a quarterback. Because they had Daniel Jones, right?
- 56:26Speaker 1: And you're right.
- 56:27Speaker 2: At some point, Anthony Richardson is over there being big, strong,
- 56:31Speaker 2: and fast.
- 56:32Speaker 4: Right?
- 56:33Speaker 3: Yeah. And you're going to see him overthrowing Alec Pierce
- 56:37Speaker 3: again at some point this season. Shoot, I don't know.
- 56:40Speaker 3: Maybe even week one. I don't know.
- 56:41Speaker 1: But I will say this, though.
- 56:43Speaker 2: After he came back from that de facto suspension, he
- 56:48Speaker 2: wasn't bad.
- 56:49Speaker 3: No, he wasn't. He wasn't.
- 56:51Speaker 1: They've given... I feel like they've given up on him
- 56:53Speaker 1: as a man.
- 56:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that... I agree. I would agree with that assessment.
- 56:57Speaker 3: And I do think it's interesting that you draft a
- 57:02Speaker 3: guy like Anthony Richardson and don't commit to the thing
- 57:06Speaker 3: you have to do, which is suck. You're going to suck.
- 57:09Speaker 3: It's going to be tough for a while. I mean, dude,
- 57:11Speaker 3: Josh was bad for, what, like 20 games? Two years. Yeah,
- 57:15Speaker 3: two years before it started getting going. And ultimately... No
- 57:20Speaker 3: one really remembers that outside people like me who say
- 57:23Speaker 3: there was reason enough to doubt that he would ever
- 57:25Speaker 3: be this.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I got to let go.
- 57:29Speaker 3: I've let it go because I love watching him play.
- 57:31Speaker 1: Right, right, right, right, right.
- 57:32Speaker 2: I have had no problem with that part. The part
- 57:34Speaker 2: that I have trouble letting go of is I was
- 57:37Speaker 2: right when I was right.
- 57:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Now, was I wrong? I was wrong to say he
- 57:41Speaker 2: was going to get everybody fired.
- 57:43Speaker 3: Yes.
- 57:43Speaker 2: But I was right to say, no, when I said
- 57:46Speaker 2: he was going to get everybody fired, I was wrong.
- 57:50Speaker 2: But I was not wrong to say that he was
- 57:52Speaker 2: going to get everybody fired.
- 57:54Speaker 3: It was just for different reasons.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Does that make sense?
- 57:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 57:57Speaker 1: All the sides were there.
- 57:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:00Speaker 1: And all the evidence was there.
- 58:02Speaker 3: And that team is fascinating because what they have signaled
- 58:08Speaker 3: is all of that, all of that was one man's fault.
- 58:13Speaker 3: One person. Yes! Sean McDermott. That was all his fault.
- 58:16Speaker 3: And you know it's not passing the sniff test because
- 58:18Speaker 3: we all watched that game.
- 58:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:20Speaker 3: Okay, we all watched it.
- 58:21Speaker 2: But it doesn't, to be fair, and this happens when
- 58:23Speaker 2: people get fired, and this is the way, I don't
- 58:27Speaker 2: know if.
- 58:27Speaker 1: You've ever been fired before.
- 58:28Speaker 2: But I got some stripes in the game, right? And
- 58:36Speaker 2: what people typically do when they get fired, and I
- 58:39Speaker 2: say they because I do not, is they personalize it
- 58:42Speaker 2: very much so, as though you are saying that.
- 58:45Speaker 1: I was what was wrong.
- 58:48Speaker 2: And in reality, what you're saying normally is, we don't
- 58:53Speaker 2: want to fire you. For whatever the reason may be,
- 58:57Speaker 2: we've decided that we don't.
- 58:58Speaker 1: Want you to be there.
- 58:59Speaker 2: It does signal as though they're saying McDermott was the problem.
- 59:04Speaker 2: But no, it really was McDermott was a problem. The
- 59:07Speaker 2: thing was, Brandon B. figured out how to get a
- 59:11Speaker 2: promotion out of it.
- 59:13Speaker 1: And Joe Brady too. Right, which means that he definitely
- 59:16Speaker 1: told the world that McDermott was the problem.
- 59:18Speaker 3: Yes. And the world, Terry Pegula, that's the world that
- 59:22Speaker 3: matters in this scenario. But I thought one of the
- 59:25Speaker 3: funniest things about that escapade was, I think an underrated
- 59:30Speaker 3: piece of it was when Terry said the weird stuff
- 59:33Speaker 3: about Keon Coleman and how, oh, you know, that was
- 59:36Speaker 3: a coaching staff pick, like not a, you know, Brandon
- 59:39Speaker 3: Bean pick. And then as soon as that press conference
- 59:41Speaker 3: is over, they announced that they had just interviewed Joe
- 59:43Speaker 3: Brady for the head coaching job. Like you just trashed
- 59:46Speaker 3: the man that you just interviewed who you ended up
- 59:49Speaker 3: hiring to run the whole thing. I would love to know,
- 59:53Speaker 3: like if I could get, if I, if I could
- 59:55Speaker 3: talk to two people right now, Honestly, about just football shit,
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: I would love to get Sean McDermott and Mike Tomlin
- 1:00:02Speaker 3: to sit down and be like, how y'all feeling? How
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: are you? I know Mike's probably feeling pretty good, because
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: I can't imagine that that, I think that this is
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: probably going to be the first losing season in 20
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: years for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But Sean, like, Sean's going
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: to look at it like, dude, what did he do
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: so terribly here? Especially considering, as a defensive guy, like,
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: the defense is not talented. as they got into the stretch,
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: but they still played okay. And they were putting some
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: bad spots in that Denver game. That's Brandon Bean's job
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: to get those guys. This year, I think this off
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: season has been the year all these billionaire owners got swindled.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: Because how are you going to tell me Brandon Bean
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: kept his job Andrew Barry kept his job in Cleveland.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: John Spitek kept his job in Las Vegas. All these
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: other guys got fired? All these coaches got fired and
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: none of these GMs got fired? That's a culture problem, man.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: Yes, but that also means that all those GMs are next, right?
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: As for Mike Tomlin, I need everybody to understand this
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: if they don't.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: None of those other two coaches that the Steelers had
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: in my lifetime went and coached anywhere ever again.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: Tyler got his bread.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Maybe he'll do television. Or maybe not. I bet he
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: made a lot more money coaching than Bill Cowher did.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Oh, for sure. And also, if I'm like, I ain't
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: going back because I'm not risking getting a losing season.
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: What do you mean?
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: I did 20 years.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: No losing seasons. Why would I risk that just to
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: come back for what?
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: And.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Don't tell nobody I said this, but.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: What if he cooked anyway?
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: Probably.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: There are criticisms of him as a coach that we
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: do not make because we like him.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: I literally just said to my boy yesterday, I'm like,
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: I can be honest about the Steelers now.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: No, let me tell you something so that I would
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: love to hear an honest conversation about one guy over another.
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: Can you imagine what Bill Belichick would have to say
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: about Mike Tomlin? given the way Bill Belichick would hand
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: his ass to him every single time.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: And Mike would be looking at him saying, wouldn't let
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: that happen to me, though.
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: You're going to be a Duke coach?
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: You think Mike Collins would be coaching a Duke? Yo, sir.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Yo, sir.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Not me.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: And that, ladies and gentlemen, is Charles McDonald. Check him
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: out at Yahoo Sports Covered the NFL. My brother, I
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: appreciate you.
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: Appreciate it, man.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: All right, now, ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much for
