- 0:00I believe the Mets are going to give him a significant They're
- 0:02going to have a ton of money to spend.
- 0:04Why not put it in one of the top three offensive players in the
- 0:07league? We're going to be looking at
- 0:16Aaron Judge and saying that he can't win the big game, Michael
- 0:20Jordan said. I played 82 games.
- 0:22You don't see LeBron doing that. A game where?
- 0:25You got to go. Before I told you giant feet
- 0:29Saquon Barkley, at this Let's do it.

- 2:22the Blue Jays and fell to 3rd in the American League, ace Aaron
- 2:25Boone still called the Yankees the best team in the league even
- 2:29after losing 2 games to the Mets and losing their 6th game in a
- 2:34row. Boone added that these are the
- 2:37moments that build character and a good baseball team.
- 2:41Jazz, Chisholm or Jism, whatever you want to call them, also
- 2:45called the the best team in the league and they just have to
- 2:49block out the noise. Gary Sheffield Junior called out
- 2:53Aaron Boone and said he has held the Yankees back for the last
- 2:58four years. Michael Kay also took shots at
- 3:01the Blue Jays, saying they don't have the looks of a first place
- 3:05team sports net. Blue Jays host Jamie Gamble took
- 3:09shots at Michael Kay and said that Michael Kay's claim was
- 3:13only based on the Yankees. Yankees run differential.
- 3:17Kay called Campbell a fanboy and said he would never be like that
- 3:24with the Yankees. The Blue Jays are three games
- 3:26ahead of the Yankees despite the Blue Jays only having a + 12 run
- 3:31differential and the Yankees having a + 95 run differential.
- 3:35Well, Michael Kay is at it again, ladies and gentlemen.
- 3:38He is at it again and he's attacking Jamie Campbell.
- 3:43Now. I don't know who Jamie Campbell
- 3:44is, but he's attacking them now. I know who Michael Kay is.
- 3:47I know him personally and we all know he's a fraud when it comes
- 3:50to the New York Yankees. He likes to say that he's not a
- 3:53fanboy, the Yankees. But when when it comes down to
- 3:56the Yankees and speaking about the Yankees, he knows best,
- 3:58ladies and gentlemen, he knows more than everybody else.
- 4:02The problem right now with the New York Yankees is pretty
- 4:04simple. They depend too much on Aaron
- 4:08Judge. That bat is the only bat that is
- 4:11alive now. They say Jazz Chasm.
- 4:13Fine, he's hot. He came back.
- 4:15He's playing very well. Let's see if he's consistent.
- 4:17Aaron Judge has been the only consistent one now for anybody
- 4:21to take shots. And I know I I don't know Gary
- 4:24Sheffield Junior. I don't know him personally.
- 4:26I know his father. His father was a great player, I
- 4:28think should be in the Hall of Fame.
- 4:30Did he do steroids? Yes.
- 4:31So did everybody else. Who cares?
- 4:33The fact is he was a great player.
- 4:35The fact is Aaron Boone is not to be the blame of the way the
- 4:39Yankees are not hitting the ball.
- 4:41He's not. I know everybody wants to throw
- 4:43him under the bus and say he's held the Yankees back.
- 4:45How the Yankees played in the first World Series in how many
- 4:49years, 14 years last year and you're going to sit there and
- 4:53you're going to bitch and moan that Aaron Boone's hold the held
- 4:55the Yankees back. Here's the problem with the New
- 4:57York Yankees, and it's pretty simple, Simple.
- 5:00And I everyone wants to blame Brian Cashman.
- 5:02Brian Cashman as AGM, It's he's been a winning GM since he's
- 5:07gone there. The Yankees are on a streak
- 5:09right now. I don't know exactly.
- 5:10It's 35 or 36 years of winning baseball.
- 5:15Now, winning the World Series is probably the hardest thing to do
- 5:18in professional sports. It is the hardest thing.
- 5:20I believe in professional sports even harder than winning a
- 5:23Stanley Cup, which everybody sits there and says is the
- 5:26hardest thing. 33 years, last one was in 1990. 233 years the
- 5:30Yankees have been dominant and a dominant factor as an
- 5:33organization. Now, have they won World Series
- 5:35since they haven't. They haven't won a World Series
- 5:37since 2009. It's been over 15 years.
- 5:40We all know that the Yankees are in a drought, but Brian Cashman
- 5:44has been successful enough to say that 33 seasons and now he
- 5:47wasn't the GM for all those seasons, but I would say 27 of
- 5:52them were Brian Cashman. And and to say that Brian
- 5:55Cashman doesn't know what he's doing.
- 5:56I know Jabba don't like him and that's fine.
- 5:58He he heard Jabba's career, he heard a lot of people's career,
- 6:01but he has also been a winning play, a winning pursuit of the
- 6:06Yankees culture. The Yankees are an organization
- 6:09that believes in winning, winning, winning.
- 6:11Now winning would also tell you World Series.
- 6:14But again, it's not as easy as it seems when you have what do
- 6:19they call that now with the the money thing where they they're
- 6:21talking about, no, not the deferred money.
- 6:24It's not has nothing to do with the deferred money, the salary
- 6:26cap capping luxury tax. And ever since the luxury tax
- 6:30came into the league, what was that 20 years ago?
- 6:33It's been different for the Yankees now George Steinburn in
- 6:35the 90s had his way on who he wanted to bring, what veteran he
- 6:39wanted to bring in and how it fit with the Yankees culture.
- 6:42And they had a they had a core of players.
- 6:45They had Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams and Mariano Rivera and
- 6:49Andy Pettitte and and Jorge Posada.
- 6:53They had players that they built a core of talent.
- 6:57The Yankees over the years, the only core of talent they've had
- 7:00is Aaron Judge. And it's been a unique thought
- 7:03of where the Yankees go when it comes to the trade deadline or
- 7:06even in the offseason on how they're going to maneuver
- 7:08salaries and and bring in a player of Max Freed or Awan Soto
- 7:13signing into a six hundred, $700 million contract.
- 7:16It's not as easy as it seems when it comes to a cap and
- 7:20understanding how the luxury tax works, how much money the
- 7:23Yankees are going to owe to the league if they go after a
- 7:25playoff that magnitude. And the Yankees are still a top
- 7:28three, top four team right now in baseball when it comes to
- 7:31salaries. So I know everybody wants to
- 7:34point their finger at Aaron Boone.
- 7:35Now, is Aaron Boone a great manager?
- 7:38What is a great manager? Seriously, what is a great
- 7:41manager? It's it's not easy to win
- 7:43championships. Maybe there's one guy that I
- 7:46could say is just that dominant of a manager and he's right now
- 7:50managing over there in Texas. And you know what I'm talking
- 7:53about Speedy. He's the only one that I can
- 7:56honestly say. Well, he's an absolute slam dunk
- 7:59of a manager because everywhere he's gone he's taking his team
- 8:03to a World Series, at least three teams to a World Series.
- 8:07He's won multiple championships, so it says a lot.
- 8:10And he's won four championships, 2 and 3, three championships,
- 8:14one team and and 1 championship with another.
- 8:16And that was his first year as a manager with the Texas Rangers.
- 8:20He's the only one that I would say is a slam dunk over the
- 8:23years. Everybody wants to, you know,
- 8:25you know, brag about Joe Torry, how great of a matter he was.
- 8:28Meanwhile, he wasn't even the number one prospect.
- 8:30He wasn't even the number one slam dunk manager that George
- 8:34Steinbrenner wanted to hire. He didn't want to Joe Torry.
- 8:37He was the last guy on the totem pole.
- 8:39That's the facts, guys. Go look at it.
- 8:42Go look at the story behind it. Joe Torry was successful because
- 8:46George Steinbrenner and the organization and Watson and
- 8:49Brian Brian Cashman over the years built a farm system, built
- 8:54a core of players that changed the organization.
- 8:57Now again, I I'll go back to Aaron Boone.
- 9:01Aaron Boone has not been a successful manager when it comes
- 9:04to winning. When you look at set records
- 9:07honestly in the how long has he been a manager for the year?
- 9:102018 so that would be. He's now in Year 8.
- 9:13Eight years. You compare Aaron Boone Boone's
- 9:17record to any of any manager in baseball history in an 8 year
- 9:23stint. How many?
- 9:24How many guys have a better record than Aaron Boone in an 8
- 9:29year stint? I would probably predict maybe
- 9:3155 at most. And I don't know off the head, I
- 9:35don't know what is the winning 584 right now.
- 9:40So he's got his winning. So give me the over the years of
- 9:44great managers, tell me what the highest percentage, who has the
- 9:48highest percentage when it comes to managers in history and how
- 9:51many championships did they win? That's what I want to know.
- 9:56These are the questions I, I can't answer.
- 9:59I'm not in sitting in front of a computer trying to come up with
- 10:01statistics. Brian Cashman has been a, I
- 10:04mean, Brian Cashman has been a successful GM and Aaron Boone,
- 10:07for the time that he's been with the New York Yankees, has been
- 10:09successful with the New York Yankees.
- 10:11Do I think it's Brian, Brian Cashman or Aaron Boone's fault
- 10:14that the Yankees aren't hitting? No.
- 10:15The Brian Cashman gave Aaron Boone, the players that he
- 10:19thought would fill in for Juan Soto.
- 10:21They haven't provided the offense that they thought.
- 10:24Bellinger has not provided the offense that they thought with
- 10:27his swing and the way his swing is in Yankee Stadium would be.
- 10:30He hasn't had the power that the numbers that he thought he would
- 10:33have. So again, you're going to blame
- 10:35Aaron Boone because he's not going up to the plate, he's not
- 10:38swinging at the balls. Those players are.
- 10:41And again, going back to Jazz Chisholm, why is Jazz Chisholm
- 10:44opening his mouth? I don't want to hear about Jazz
- 10:47and what he thinks about the New York Yankees.
- 10:48The Yankees organization don't need a player like this.
- 10:51Nick Swisher for years was the bright face of the New York
- 10:55Yankees organization and he never even said, oh, we're the
- 10:59best team in baseball. We're the best.
- 11:01Nick Swisher said, listen, I love playing for the Yankees.
- 11:03The Yankees are great organization.
- 11:05And I just hope that we're we're playing in October.
- 11:07You never hear that. Jazz Chisholm actually believes
- 11:10that the New York Yankees, these are the best team in baseball.
- 11:12Meanwhile, they've been the worst team in in baseball in the
- 11:15month of June. So it's not been good for the
- 11:18New York Yankees. But again, if they need, if the
- 11:21Yankees believe that they need another face in the dugout to
- 11:24get these these players playing, We've seen this before.
- 11:26It has helped many over the years when it comes to baseball.
- 11:30Maybe that's what the Yankees need to do.
- 11:31Not because Aaron Boone is not a good manager, just because the
- 11:35Yankees are not hitting for him. The Yankees are not playing well
- 11:38with him in the dugout dugout. He has a career 581 winning
- 11:42percentage, which actually again, the qualifiers are tough
- 11:44because of dead ball era stuff and stuff like that.
- 11:46But it actually with that is 21st all time in Major League
- 11:50history. There are some that didn't in
- 11:52the dead ball era that didn't manage anything else in an 8
- 11:56year span, so the eight-year span I'm still trying to figure
- 11:58out, but that is still an impressive regular season
- 12:00winning percentage number. Yeah, I found similar data on
- 12:04that one. Errol and Speedy Boone is
- 12:07sitting there. Really only active guy that he's
- 12:10behind is Dave Roberts, and he's decent way behind Dave Roberts.
- 12:13But you know why Dave Roberts is there?
- 12:14Because he's got an even more stacked team and more money than
- 12:19the Yankees do. So I think I think you got to
- 12:21point a lot of fingers at all these other names are Hall of
- 12:24Farmers or guys that were like just interim coaches that had
- 12:27good. Records Who has the biggest?
- 12:29Who has the best winning percentage out of all the
- 12:31managers in baseball history? How about the Yankees?
- 12:34How about the Yankees? A lot of games, all time.
- 12:36Yankees, Joe. McCarthy with the Yankees from
- 12:391926 to 19561540. Percentage.
- 12:41Joe McCarthy was the murderer's role coach.
- 12:44OK, Yeah, with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
- 12:46And he coached all the way through the DiMaggio years until
- 12:49the first half of the DiMaggio years.
- 12:51So he's definitely way up there. There's some other names that
- 12:55are in the Hall of Fame. I've never heard of him, so it's
- 12:56forever ago. George Wright, Ted Simmons, Al
- 12:59Spaulding, Comiskey, Comiskey Park.
- 13:02He's there. Earl Weaver.
- 13:05Give me the Yankee managers. Out of all the Yankee managers
- 13:08in history, where does Aaron Boone land of managers of all
- 13:12time with the Yankees? Because I would say he's
- 13:15definitely a top five. You can't argue that he is.
- 13:17Percentage wise, he definitely is if he's #2 on this list right
- 13:20now. And like Fish and I were saying,
- 13:22there's not many, there's all dead ball era guys in between
- 13:25which have been managing right at the same time as as McCarthy.
- 13:28So winning percentage wise, yeah, there's only there's two
- 13:32years that's not going to count, 2 years not going to count.
- 13:34So McCarthy's 627, Casey Stengel will be 623, but that's his
- 13:38career. So that's not even with the
- 13:39Yankees. Joe Torry 6O56.
- 13:43O5. And.
- 13:44Miller, Huggins, Billy Martin, 59.
- 13:47Billy Martin again, another one that bumped around different
- 13:49teams. So that wasn't all with the
- 13:50Yankees. True, but let's just say he's
- 13:53right up there with the ones that did the winning.
- 13:55Errol, you your point is actually valid.
- 13:58That's what we're saying here is Aaron Boone should be winning,
- 14:01except there's a problem. And it's not the run
- 14:04differential that Michael K was pointing to, because I would say
- 14:06that's too rudimentary of a stat.
- 14:08We talked about it last week, Speedy.
- 14:09It's the lack of being clutch. It's the lack of coming up when
- 14:13the game is on the line and actually doing the right thing.
- 14:17And I always thought that good teams come through when it
- 14:21matters and and the Yankees haven't done that under Boone,
- 14:24except for a couple of guys you mentioned them, Judge, obviously
- 14:27having a Hall of Fame, you know, type of career.
- 14:29If you can do this for another couple of years, you could do
- 14:32that in short order. But there's other guys just not
- 14:35stepping up when they need to. And it's not just the the
- 14:37hitting, it's the pitching as well.
- 14:40It's the I was going. To say I was going to go back to
- 14:42the story that broke in 2023 or so right after the trade
- 14:45deadline where a lot of people were criticizing the Yankees
- 14:48analytics department. And some of that has to do with
- 14:50the prospect development. I think a lot of why a lot of
- 14:53these, the prospects either got hurt, got rushed up or the other
- 14:56way around where they get stashed in the minor leagues too
- 14:58long and they either getting hurt there or end up losing a
- 15:00lot of value too. And Brian Cashman actually got a
- 15:02lot of the scrutiny for it for like either not changing them or
- 15:07not evolving with some of the new concepts in baseball post
- 15:09the lockout era. And I think that's where a lot
- 15:12of these young players have not come to fruition.
- 15:13We were talking about a couple months ago with Dominguez.
- 15:16Should they trade him? Should they keep him?
- 15:17Now? He started to hit a little
- 15:18better, but the defense really hasn't gotten there.
- 15:20And then, like I were talking about last week with Volpe, with
- 15:23when Josh Towers was on the show, he fell off a Cliff badly.
- 15:25And now you're questioning if the Yankees are even going to
- 15:28get any value if they they're going to be stuck hanging out
- 15:30over this year. And then maybe you have to trade
- 15:31him in the offseason. It's it's interesting.
- 15:35It is interesting when you look at obviously where the Yankees
- 15:39are and where the Yankees could be after the All Star break.
- 15:43But I don't think the Yankees should quit on Aaron Boone.
- 15:46I think they got to give him a chance to finish the season and
- 15:49see where everything lies. The Yankees don't fire managers
- 15:53in the middle of a season. I've never seen a Yankee manager
- 15:56get fired in the middle of the season.
- 15:57Not. In the long was how long was his
- 15:59extension? Three years, I think it was.
- 16:02Three, yeah, 3, three years. They did that right away as
- 16:06everyone was like. Because a lot of people weren't.
- 16:07You had a better manager, they would have put performed better
- 16:10in the World Series. And I still think that might be
- 16:13true. But at the same time, how do you
- 16:15get rid of someone? Well, the Yankees did that with
- 16:17Girardi the year they fell short to the cheating Astros in 2017.
- 16:21And then they that's when they went to Boone in the 1st place.
- 16:23So there's precedent for going really far in the playoffs.
- 16:27I mean, we saw it in basketball with the Knicks getting rid of
- 16:29Thibodeau in the Eastern Conference finals.
- 16:31So you don't have to have a bad season to get fired.
- 16:34I I don't know if Boone, if he can't turn this around, if they
- 16:37just say, you know, whatever, the Yankees will take the two
- 16:40years hit on your salary. But we need a new voice in there
- 16:43because I'm starting to get real worried that they can't compete
- 16:45with teams that I thought they were better than.
- 16:47I thought they were better than the Blue Jays.
- 16:49I thought that they're better than the Tampa Bay Rays, or at
- 16:51least on the level. And they're not playing as good
- 16:53as those two teams right now. And that's that's very worrisome
- 16:56because I don't think those two are even the best teams in the.
- 16:58AL, I think it's early. I know everybody wants to say
- 17:01that. It's it's still early.
- 17:02How many games are we in? What are we in 80 games?
- 17:05Wait a little bit. No, we're past that.
- 17:06It's like. 88 I don't know give me give me the game.
- 17:08So 88 games speedy, give me the. Over the halfway.
- 17:11Mark All right, so we're. It's exactly 90.
- 17:13Right now, all right, so we have 90 games and there's 162 games
- 17:16in a season, so that means there's 70 games left.
- 17:19There's a lot of baseball left, so I'm not going to quote
- 17:22anybody saying that the Yankees are out.
- 17:25They're not going to win the division.
- 17:26I still think the Yankees are going to win the American League
- 17:29East. They're the best team in the
- 17:30American League East. They haven't played that way in
- 17:32the month of June. They've been horrible in the
- 17:34month of June, but I think eventually when the bats start
- 17:37to figure things out, the lineup starts to figure things out.
- 17:40I think that lineup is quite better than it was last year.
- 17:44Even with Juan Soto, Bellinger has not hit yet.
- 17:47I haven't seen Bellinger even get hot.
- 17:49I think he was on a 17 game hitting streak and then after
- 17:52that he wasn't the same player. Hasn't been the same since that.
- 17:54So the questions will lie about where the the opportunity is at
- 18:01the trade down line where the Yankees can add another bat.
- 18:03And I think the Yankees will. Maybe.
- 18:05Two bats, yeah, they it's interesting because they have
- 18:07seven guys with with 10 or more home runs.
- 18:09Obviously Judges 33, which double S the amount of the next
- 18:11guy. But it's it's all in phases like
- 18:13you're saying Trent Grisham had his hot month and a half to
- 18:15start the year, 16 home runs, but that's really all the bulk
- 18:18of his offense. Ben rights has been kind of up
- 18:19and down. Bellinger it's really all in
- 18:21that stretch of the hit streak. And Volpe had a good first month
- 18:25with the torpedo bats. Since then he's been a mess.
- 18:27So you can't have that kind of consistent offense unless
- 18:30there's somebody else picking it up and there just hasn't been
- 18:32enough consistency. Like you said, Goldschmidt is
- 18:36really his splits are really drastic.
- 18:37It's like double the OPS to to righties or lefties to righties.
- 18:41It's it's not good. They they knew that they weren't
- 18:44getting a star player when they they signed him.
- 18:47They were hoping for what they got at the beginning of the
- 18:49season. It's not going to last.
- 18:51This is what he was always going to be.
- 18:53It's fine. And if they can get good pitting
- 18:55out of rice from the left side of the plate and Goldie from the
- 18:57right side of the place plate, you can piece together first
- 18:59base. That's better than what they've
- 19:01had there in the past. I'm not worried about that.
- 19:03I'm worried. The fact that Jazz plays third
- 19:05base when he's a second baseman and they have a shortstop,
- 19:09that's one of the worst starting shortstop in shortstops in
- 19:12baseball right now. And I guess DJ Lemahieu is our
- 19:16starting third baseman who really shouldn't be starting
- 19:18anywhere in Major League Baseball right now either.
- 19:21That's the big problem. They have two guys that are just
- 19:23hole 2 positions on the left side of the infield.
- 19:26Complete holes on this team. Well, Volping, not even only
- 19:30defensively, but offensively, he's left.
- 19:32Over 150 runners on base. That's only second to casting
- 19:35honors from the Phillies. So it's not that he just costing
- 19:38them the glove, he's just not getting it done at the plate
- 19:41either. So Jabba, this is something that
- 19:43I always think about because this is not one of the stats and
- 19:46I always like what are some things that I wouldn't know
- 19:49unless I played. I don't feel like Volpe has
- 19:52competitive at bats. And I think that's something
- 19:55that I hear more of in analysis today.
- 19:57And I think as a pitcher, you know, you you would be able to
- 20:01say like, is this guy, if I just throw a couple of pitches to
- 20:03him, this guy's going to put himself in a hole and then it's
- 20:05going to be an easy at bat for me.
- 20:07I'll throw him some junk and he'll swing through it.
- 20:09And that's that's fun. This is the way I can save some
- 20:12pitches. I know this guy's going to
- 20:14either ground this one right into the ground.
- 20:15If I throw this change up, he's just going to swing right over
- 20:18the top of it, you know, or whatever slider, whatever it
- 20:20was. Do you see that with the
- 20:22Yankees? Because I feel like outside of
- 20:24Judge, outside of Bellinger, when he's going well, I don't
- 20:29like the at bats man. I don't.
- 20:31Yeah, it's it just, I think there's, there's a lot of, I
- 20:38guess we call them, you know, from the pitching side, NCPS and
- 20:41non competitive pitch. But there's some at bats where
- 20:44like, and I don't know if this is just me, but I, I feel like I
- 20:47watch a lot of their games. Like it just looks like, I
- 20:51wouldn't say deer in the headlights, but sometimes when
- 20:53he goes to the plate, it looks like he's already beat.
- 20:56Like, I don't know if it's a like just the exuding confidence
- 20:59or, or what have you, but it just it, it really like
- 21:02sometimes when he goes up and and I that may be my own in my
- 21:06own Dome, because I realize and I see the numbers of how many
- 21:10guys he's left on base and where sometimes, you know, and it's so
- 21:15hard not to know anymore because everything is so analytical and
- 21:20you have literally a Dang iPad as soon as you're at bats over.
- 21:24So you get AC your last 10 at bats, how hard, you know,
- 21:27whatever that case may be. So I think it's a little bit
- 21:31harder to get away from it now to get out of that funk where,
- 21:34you know, back in the day, it was like you had to go searching
- 21:39to sit in the video room and to be like, OK, I need, I want to
- 21:41get see all my right-handed, you know, guys that I face against
- 21:45left-handed, see my split. So you you had to make an effort
- 21:48to go where some people it's like, OK, I just want to get
- 21:52away from it. I got it.
- 21:53You know, it's like they say you miss 103 pointers, you shoot 100
- 21:57more, you're going to figure it out at some point.
- 21:59But I think it just it gets so hard now with the access that
- 22:04you have that's ready available. I mean, literally you can't walk
- 22:07in there and not see it or it being talked about because it
- 22:10it's on everywhere. So it's just, it does feel like
- 22:14sometimes he goes up and it's just it's it's already an out
- 22:18and it's not going to be a competitive at bat.
- 22:20And it's try to swing early. So he doesn't get, you know,
- 22:23beat and in counts like that where, you know, it's kind of
- 22:26the exact opposite of Soto. Yeah, he's not going to hit you
- 22:29300, but he's probably going to have more walks than he is
- 22:33strikeouts. And he's going to give you he he
- 22:35on averages sees almost 5 pitches in that bat.
- 22:38You loved that when you saw Soto as a Yankee was just you had so
- 22:42such competitive bats to the way that his he would stare the
- 22:44pitcher down to just added some some energy to it.
- 22:49I I really, I'm getting a little distracted.
- 22:51I know what's going on in the studio.
- 22:52I was like. What's he doing?
- 22:53Getting a little wild over there, but I, I just don't see
- 22:56the at bats being very good. And I think that comes from a
- 23:00mindset and that comes from leadership.
- 23:02I think a better manager would kind of reach some of these guys
- 23:05that are younger that are not doing those things.
- 23:07Luckily for the Yankees, they do have a couple of former MVPS in
- 23:12this lineup, such as Goldschmidt that can come through in the
- 23:15clutch for that. I don't.
- 23:17Think I I don't think the MVP, I think they.
- 23:20Just, well, here's what it means.
- 23:21Take a look at this picture of this video I got Zach to put up
- 23:25of former NLM VP Cody Bellinger making one of the.
- 23:29This is the only reason the Yankees won one of these games
- 23:31in the last week. He makes a shoestring catch and
- 23:34on the run nails Lindor going back to first.
- 23:38Not just any runner. Who's Lindor?
- 23:40So it's not like it was a bad baserunner.
- 23:42This is just as good of a play that you can make in left field
- 23:46that you can't make a. Bet the Yankees didn't bring him
- 23:48only for his arm. They brought him for his
- 23:50offense. And and that's what I know right
- 23:51now. He's not providing the offense
- 23:54they they they obviously need. And, and, and the Yankees have
- 23:57problems in the middle of this has been a problem for the
- 23:59Yankees for years. And I'm going to go back to it
- 24:02is they they have one guy that can hit or two guys that can
- 24:05hit. Last year was Juan Soto and
- 24:07Aaron Judge. And then Giancarlo Stan showed
- 24:10up to the playoffs like he always does and, and smashes the
- 24:12ball. The Yankees lineup is just hot
- 24:15and cold, hot and cold. It's never hot.
- 24:18And look what the Dodgers did against the Yankees in the World
- 24:21Series. They got hot.
- 24:22Besides Ohtani. That whole lineup was hot.
- 24:25Ohtani didn't hit really in the World Series, but he hit
- 24:28throughout the playoffs and everybody else, Friedman bets.
- 24:31Everybody was hitting in the World Series but Otani, and that
- 24:36says a lot. The Yankees were so worried
- 24:37about Otani, they weren't worried about the other guys
- 24:40like Edmund and all the other. Guys.
- 24:41And he was still walking a lot, too.
- 24:43Yeah. So I that's that's why the
- 24:45Yankees are never going to win a World Series until they find the
- 24:48right guys and the right mix of guys that are going to fit in
- 24:51with Aaron Judge. They thought Bellinger was going
- 24:53to do it. Goldschmidt is good.
- 24:55He's everything that the Yankees wanted him to be after coming
- 24:59for, you know, the bad season last year wasn't the same
- 25:02hitter. This guy three years ago was an
- 25:04an MVP. He's obviously getting a little
- 25:07bit there, a little bit older. Look what Nolan Arenado is doing
- 25:10right now over there in Saint Louis I Nolan Arenado could be
- 25:14available at the trade deadline. Do the Yankees make a move for
- 25:16him, Bring them to that roster, put them at third base, which
- 25:19the Yankees have had problems defensively over there.
- 25:21So the Yankees are going to have to look and be a little bit
- 25:24smarter. Don't trade away the big pieces,
- 25:26the big, you know, franchise players that they have in their
- 25:29farm system. And if they think Dominguez is a
- 25:31piece that they can move, is that they can add another big
- 25:34bat to that lineup. Maybe that's where the Yankees
- 25:36go trading Jason Demigas. And it's also, it's also tough
- 25:40because you also look at the positions of the Yankees really
- 25:42need badly. A lot of the ones it's like we
- 25:44discussed Fish, like second base is a big weakness just across
- 25:47the league this year. Like they need, if they need
- 25:49that, if they want to go to Chisholm, the third or a third
- 25:51baseman that could be available. Is that going to be realistic?
- 25:53Same kind of thing with relievers.
- 25:54They're very fluky if they want to go for more bullpen depth
- 25:57too. So they need it in some kind of
- 25:58combination that maybe is a little more creative, but it
- 26:01comes to show what Brian Cashman has been criticized for.
- 26:03Like sometimes he settles for the second third tier moves and
- 26:06maybe it isn't enough even if he's making the good moves.
- 26:09We've seen Cashman do that like $0.10, like, oh, I'll get 3 guys
- 26:14instead of the one guy I should have got.
- 26:16And then the three guys are like Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Pavano
- 26:20types. And the thing with Cashman, that
- 26:23and Jabba, we're going to let you take the ball and run with
- 26:25this in a second. But Cashman, I feel like he's
- 26:29gotten lucky a bunch of times and he's one of those guys who
- 26:32thought who was lucky and thought it was because he was
- 26:34good. And I think he's made a bunch of
- 26:37good choices. He's been solid, but he hasn't
- 26:40been a spectacular general manager.
- 26:42He's had many misses. He just has a lot more resources
- 26:45than most guys and it seems like job job security forever, like
- 26:49they're just going to keep him forever.
- 26:51He's been in the job since 96. I'm pretty sure it's 96 when he
- 26:55took over for stick Michael and how how many guys keep a job
- 26:59that long in baseball? He's got to be by far the long
- 27:02tenure longest tenured guy. He's in 98.
- 27:05So I guess from Michael, but Michael, what he was really
- 27:09doing most of the work for Michael, he was his number two
- 27:11guy even before that, right. So Cashman has been around for a
- 27:14long time. He's got a lot of hits.
- 27:16He's got a lot of misses on his resume.
- 27:18I would say they're around the same amount.
- 27:21But Jabba, I think you could kind of a little bit more
- 27:23intimately tell us about, you know, maybe a little bit how
- 27:26overrated Cashman might be here. Yeah, see, it's, I mean, we we
- 27:30kind of saw kind of what happened today where usually
- 27:33it's they kind of go hand in hand with the manager and AGM
- 27:36and and in certain because there there ends up being a fall guy
- 27:40somehow. And they're always like, well,
- 27:41we're not going to make a change unless we're not making money.
- 27:44They're always going to make money.
- 27:45Even if they lose 100 games, the Yankees would still make money
- 27:49that that's neither that's unrealistic for them to even
- 27:52like people to say that it's like, well, if they don't make
- 27:55any money, they got to get rid of them.
- 27:56Well, they're not. They're always going to make
- 27:57money. And I found something
- 27:59interesting that you were saying Fish is like talking about a
- 28:01leader. And and it was it was really
- 28:04interesting to hear from, you know, somebody of this caliber.
- 28:07So Ken Rosenthal was on fell territory today and literally he
- 28:11was like, there's no managers this day and age that will hold
- 28:15their players accountable. He's like it just doesn't exist
- 28:18anymore and for somebody to come out and say that of of Ken and
- 28:22and how affected in the game he is, I think he's 100% right
- 28:26because he the one the one that he did name and hopefully and he
- 28:32gets better and and healthier is is a dear friend and Ron
- 28:36Washington. We wish all him the best and and
- 28:38what he's going through, but that was the only one that Ken
- 28:41could even like even think of. And for somebody to be around
- 28:45the game that long and and to, you know, throw that out there
- 28:48that it it has legs, because I was having this conversation
- 28:53with a buddy about some other stuff.
- 28:55We were just talking about, you know, the game and whatever.
- 28:58And it's like, OK, I get like he sticks up for him.
- 29:03But I do you think some of that is, I won't say fake, but is
- 29:08like forced upon like because I get it, like we're all savages
- 29:12in the box and like it's it's entertainment.
- 29:14But I think a little bit is I think, you know, yeah, cool.
- 29:19Like we're trying get tossed to, you know, create a rally.
- 29:22We we've seen that before, but some of the stuff that he has is
- 29:25just like, all right, man, we get it, like you hate him, but
- 29:28we. All know you hate him and you're
- 29:30going to throw him under the no. No, I'm just talking about
- 29:32Boone. He's talking about Boone.
- 29:34Yeah, I'm talking about Boone. That's fine.
- 29:35But I know you hate Brian Cashman and I and by the by the
- 29:38way, you, you mentioned Michaels, but the architect of
- 29:41those 90s, early 90s Yankees was Bob Watson.
- 29:45OK, everybody I've mentioned Watson because I always mention
- 29:48Watson. People forget that Bob Watson
- 29:50was the architect. Who do you think hired Brian
- 29:53Cashman as his sister in GM? It was Bob Watson.
- 29:56That was the one that hired Brian Cashman.
- 29:58I don't think you guys remember Bob.
- 30:00And I always mention Watson. Watson.
- 30:02You're probably saying who the hell is Watson?
- 30:04Go look. He is the architect of the early
- 30:0790s Yankees teams. He was the one that hired Brian
- 30:12Cashman as a as a assistant GM and a guy that worked as an
- 30:16executive for the Yankees front office.
- 30:19So I know everybody's sitting here.
- 30:21Says here Watson was the GM for the Yankees in the right after
- 30:26the strike so they hired him after the strike 95 and he left
- 30:32and he left before 97 so I before 98 season so he was there
- 30:37for the 9596. He said he was the architect of
- 30:39the of the Yankees when the Yankees won their first World
- 30:42Series in 1990. 6 I would say stick.
- 30:44Michael drafted all those guys, but I do.
- 30:47First of all, Stick Michaels was the one that was the he was like
- 30:50the scout. He was the lead scout for the
- 30:52Yankees. He was the one that obviously
- 30:54wanted Derek Jeter. He was the one that wanted
- 30:56Bernie Williams. He was a scout.
- 30:58He was really the scout. He wasn't really the GM.
- 31:01The GM, the Archie Tech of those 90s Yankees was Bob Watson.
- 31:04And and I think Yankee fans don't know that and they forget
- 31:07about what Bob Watson did for the Yankees organization when
- 31:10the Yankees brought him in. So, Fish, how old were you when
- 31:13Bob Watson was the the GM for the New York Yankees?
- 31:16I don't even think you remember him because you were a baby.
- 31:19So you were only four years older than me.
- 31:21All right, What are you talking about?
- 31:23What are you talking about? How old were you when Bob?
- 31:25Watson was GI Joes. How old?
- 31:27How old? Were you?
- 31:28I was 10. You were. 14 All right.
- 31:30And I was, and I as a Yankee, I remember Bob Watson and a lot of
- 31:34people. Was at the 96 parade.
- 31:36A lot of people, a lot of people don't know that they always give
- 31:41Michaels all the credit in the world.
- 31:43But Bob Watson was the architect of the 96 Yankees.
- 31:46He was the back end. He was the backbone of those
- 31:49Yankee teams early when the Yankees started win in 9697.
- 31:53He just doesn't get the credit. So unfortunately that's been a
- 31:57problem for the Yankee fans because the Yankee fans always
- 31:59give Michaels all the credit in the world because he's the one
- 32:01who drafted Derek Jeter. So I, I'm not saying Michaels
- 32:04wasn't a great obviously scout. He was one of the best, you
- 32:07know, baseball minds we've seen. And for the Yankees
- 32:09organization, he's one of those guys that you'll always
- 32:12remember. But I, you got to, you got to
- 32:14give Bob Watson a little bit of credit, which Yankee fans don't
- 32:17do. So I, I always stick up for
- 32:19Watson. That's why I always mention and
- 32:21everybody says, who's Watson? Who's Watson?
- 32:24And that shows you how much you're a Yankee fan, Yankee
- 32:26fans. So if you don't know who Bob
- 32:28Watson is, shame on you. So, so like I, it's, I just was
- 32:32looking, had the story about Stick Michael.
- 32:34So Stick Michael was the GM version of Billy Martin.
- 32:36He kept firing him from being GM, but he was basically the GM.
- 32:41It was, he was like there for a long time and they kept firing
- 32:45him and rehiring the different roles.
- 32:46He was the GM for a second time in 1990.
- 32:50George George did that to everybody.
- 32:51He would literally fire you because he'd be pissed.
- 32:54They would come back the next day.
- 32:55So he would. It was like that Seinfeld
- 32:57episode where like he walks into Steinbrenner's office and like
- 33:01quits and then it just shows up the next day.
- 33:03Yep. Like I think that was actually
- 33:05based on a stick Michael thing. So I I I don't know if that's
- 33:08100% true, but I do. Know it is.
- 33:11There's something to it. I know Larry being religious,
- 33:13that's a Lorne Michaels at Saturday Night Live.
- 33:15He knew George, we do have our golf clap of the day.
- 33:20This deserves a golf clap. No doubt.
- 33:23Golf clap. Golf clap.
- 33:26Our Golf Club of the day, I don't know if anybody's paying
- 33:28attention to Wimbledon. Wimbledon's going on.
- 33:31It's always a big sport, you know, a big time for tennis in
- 33:35the summertime in England and it.
- 33:37And one guy that I think everybody should be talking
- 33:40about is Djokovic, who's trying to catch the one and only Roger
- 33:44Federer. It is not often that Djokovic,
- 33:47who has won 43 of of his past 45 matches at Wimbledon, he's made
- 33:53to endure such a stern test of mental resistance on the stage
- 33:59of dominance over the years. The sixth seed is through to the
- 34:0416th Wimbledon quarterfinals, second only to the 18 achieved
- 34:09by Federer. But at times it is felt as
- 34:13though his progress was under threat and and by the way,
- 34:18Djokovic right now was hammered by double fault over in his last
- 34:23match, but still moving on to the round of 16.
- 34:26Djokovic is the best tennis player of all time.
- 34:29I don't think you can argue that anymore.
- 34:30Roger Federer was getting all the credit in the world.
- 34:33We remember in the 90s when I was watching Pete Sampras and
- 34:36and Andre Agassi and Wimbledon, those those were the time where
- 34:38you got Boris Becker. But what Djokovic has done over
- 34:42the last 10 years of tennis and you got Rafael Nadal, you have
- 34:47Roger Federer, some of the best tennis players of all time.
- 34:50And people forget that Djokovic has been the best 1 and
- 34:54consistent one out of all of them and still playing at the
- 34:57top of his game as a six seed and right now moving on in the
- 35:00round of 16 could win his. I don't know what what is this
- 35:04is. How many titles?
- 35:0543 titles of 40 is 40. I, I don't even know how many
- 35:09titles he's won at Wimbledon, but he, he's won a lot of them.
- 35:12OK, so he has a chance to win a significant amount of Wimbledon
- 35:17Championships. And I, I wanted to, I wanted to
- 35:19go somewhere else with football, but this is even bigger and
- 35:22better. I'm not.
- 35:23I'm not watching. 7 Wimbledon. He's got 7 Wimbledon's.
- 35:26How many championships does he have?
- 35:28How many does how many just choke of the chaff?
- 35:30So this 7 Federer is 8 at Wimbledon.
- 35:33Yeah, he's going to tie him because I think he's going to
- 35:34win this year. But he's got 24 grand.
- 35:37Slams 24 grand Slams which he passed Roger Federer recently?
- 35:40Yes, he did. So if Djokovic wins this year,
- 35:43that will be tied 8th. Which Wimbledon was Roger
- 35:47Federer's best tournament but best championship.
- 35:50If he ties Roger Federer, not only is he the greatest, he is
- 35:53the greatest tennis player of all time.
- 35:55You could argue there is nobody, not even Roger Federer that kind
- 35:58of is going to come close to this guy.
- 35:59This guy is still at the top of this game.
- 36:01This guy is still one of the best tennis players in the world
- 36:04and he's doing it, by the way, staying healthy year in and year
- 36:07out. How many times have you seen
- 36:09Djokovic hurt? Have you?
- 36:11How many times have you seen Djokovic not play in a
- 36:13tournament, not play in a championship?
- 36:15It's been incredible. It's been an incredible feat for
- 36:17one of the greatest athletes. Yes, you heard it from me, one
- 36:20of the greatest athletes of this generation of professional
- 36:24sports. It's an amazing feat and
- 36:26congratulations to Djokovic. Moving on the round of 16, I has
- 36:29a chance. To he has 27 because he has
- 36:32three double S titles. There you go.
- 36:34So I mean, it's, it's pretty, it's pretty incredible what
- 36:38Djokovic is doing right now. And he just stands for not only
- 36:42for something in his country, but when tennis is really not
- 36:46only a growing sport worldwide, but a growing sport in his
- 36:50country. And the biggest, and I, if I'm
- 36:52not mistaken, he's from Belarus, if I'm not mistaken.
- 36:55I believe he's also from Serbia. Yeah, Serbia, but he has a, his
- 36:59mother, I think is a Belarus who's descended, but he is from
- 37:02Serbia. He does play for Serbia.
- 37:04But it's congratulations to Djokovic for having such a great
- 37:09run of just dominant tennis play.
- 37:12And he's been unbelievable. So my golf clap of the day, I
- 37:15took it away from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who had something to
- 37:18say about Aaron Rodgers and what he said.
- 37:20I'm not even, I'm going to push that away.
- 37:22I wanted to go somewhere outside of the box because nobody would
- 37:25expect it. My golf clip of the day goes to
- 37:28Djokovic being so dominant over the years and being one of the
- 37:32most dominant athletes of this generation.
- 37:34So Golf Club hopefully wins Wimbledon.
- 37:37I would love to see him win Wimbledon.
- 37:39I don't. I used to watch Wimbledon all
- 37:42the way through. I haven't really watched the
- 37:44full Wimbledon in about 5 to 6 years and in the 90s I watched
- 37:48every single Wimbledon because I grew up in Andre Agassi fan and
- 37:52my mom was a Pete Sampras fan. So I always rooted on Andre
- 37:56Agassi. By the way, Andre Agassi and and
- 37:58Steffi Groff's son is playing for Team Germany in the World
- 38:03Championships of baseball coming right up.
- 38:05So that'll be interesting. I'm interested to see.
- 38:08He is a pitcher and obviously is not he's not good enough to play
- 38:12for Team USA. That's that's for sure, but has
- 38:15a chance to play for Team Germany.
- 38:16So it's it's be interesting. His both both his parents are
- 38:20two of the best tennis players 1 Steffi Graf is probably one of
- 38:23the top three best women tennis players of all time.
- 38:26And his father is probably you can argue one of the top three
- 38:29American born tennis players of all time.
- 38:31So my Golf Club goes to Djokovic.

- 38:53be Phoenix Suns play by by broadcaster and Dallas Cowboys
- 38:56play by play broadcaster Kevin or Ray.
- 38:58Oh, Kevin will join us. And by the way, Kevin, I'm sure
- 39:01he has his own thoughts about George Pickens, as we heard CD
- 39:04Lamb and George Pickens on a broadcast recently and CD came
- 39:08out and I wouldn't have ever thought this to to be true.
- 39:11CD Lamb said there's no one or two.
- 39:13It's all once and he says now you got to contend with two
- 39:17number ones on one roster. Well, we'll see how that works
- 39:21for the whole season with George Pickens doesn't see enough
- 39:22balls, especially up his ass, and if he does, maybe somebody's
- 39:26going to bend over and give him a nice little poo Tang pie as
- 39:29Speedy with. Fish.
- 39:30Maybe that's why Kevante Turpin had to do what he did, because
- 39:33he knew he wasn't a #1. Oh, absolutely.
- 39:35By the way, Speedy, I haven't used this drop in a long time,
- 39:38no. Share a poo Tang pie with the
- 39:39rock. Anyways, that's it for our show,
- 39:41ladies and gentlemen. We'll be back with Nick Goody on
- 39:44Thursday. Hopefully Tommy feels better.
