  says, "Though the fig tree does not bud

  and there are no grapes on the vines,

  though the olive crop fails and the

  fields produce no food, though there are

  no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the

  stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord.

  I will be joyful in God my Savior. The

  sovereign Lord is my strength. He makes
• 0:35
  my feet like the feet of a deer. He

  enables me to tread the heights. Man,

  this is what it looks like to trust God

  when life is not working. Habach paints

  a picture of total loss. No crops, no
• 0:49
  food, no livestock, no income, no
• 0:52
  security, nothing left to lean on. And

  right there in the middle of that empty

  pen and barren field, he makes a

  decision. Yet, I will rejoice in the
• 1:03
  Lord. I will be joyful in God, my
• 1:06
  savior. This is the will of God for his
• 1:09
  people. Not because God is blind or
• 1:11
  pained, but because this kind of joy
• 1:14
  reflects his own heart and his own
• 1:16
  story. Think about how Jesus came into
• 1:19
  this world. God didn't enter history
• 1:21
  through wealth, power, and prominence.

  He came through a poor teenage girl in
• 1:26
  obscurity, born in a place fit for
• 1:28
  animals, and first announced to
• 1:31
  shepherds, the least, not the elite.

  Christmas is God saying to people
• 1:36
  everywhere, I am not impressed with your
• 1:38
  status. I came to rescue you, not to
• 1:41
  upgrade your comfort. Jesus came to pull
• 1:44
  us out of a broken world and bring us
• 1:46
  into a new one where he reigns. Where
• 1:49
  love, joy, peace, righteousness,
• 1:51
  goodness, and abundance never end. But
• 1:54
  that world is still future. This world
• 1:56
  is still broken. Here the wicked often
• 1:59
  prosper. Not because God approves, but
• 2:02
  so that they might see the emptiness of
• 2:04
  their success and turn to the only true
• 2:07
  prosperity, eternal life with him.

  That's why any version of Christianity
• 2:12
  that promises constant health and wealth
• 2:14
  here is dangerous. It deceives people
• 2:17
  about the heart and purpose of God.

  Jesus never lived that life. He had no
• 2:22
  place to lay his head. He didn't make
• 2:24
  people rich or successful in this world.
• 2:27
  He called the rich to surrender their
• 2:29
  wealth. And he called the poor and all
• 2:31
  of us to work for that which lasts
• 2:34
  forever. God invites every man listening
• 2:36
  to store up treasure in heaven where the
• 2:39
  eternal real reward is. On this earth
• 2:42
  we're going to have trouble. We'll face
• 2:44
  our own sin, the sin of others,
• 2:46
  sickness, disease, war, spiritual
• 2:48
  attack. Sometimes God does miracles in
• 2:51
  the middle of that. But he doesn't
• 2:52
  promise to remove of all of it in this
• 2:54
  life. So what does he want? He wants
• 2:57
  sons who rejoice in him when he is all
• 3:00
  that they have. Men who glorify him,
• 3:03
  honor him, and cling to him when the
• 3:05
  account is empty. The diagnosis is bad,
• 3:08
  the job is gone, or the door is closed.

  Because if you're in Christ, there's a
• 3:13
  day coming when they when you will see
• 3:15
  him, you will live with him and have
• 3:17
  more than you have ever hoped from him
• 3:20
  forever. Run today's play. Choose to

  rejoice in God and not in your
• 3:25
  circumstances. Today out loud, thank God

  nothing but him because in the end, he
