- 1:09Speaker 4: Thanks for having me on, man.
- 1:10Speaker 5: How are you?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Bill, we're good. Obviously, as I'm sure you know, and
- 1:13Speaker 2: I want to get into just to touch it. I
- 1:15Speaker 2: shared it. You put out a re-ranking, and I like this,
- 1:18Speaker 2: re-ranking SEC quarterbacks heading into October. And Mississippi State fans
- 1:23Speaker 2: will be pleased. Ole Miss fans will be pleased. But
- 1:25Speaker 2: let's jump right into it. I know you're on limited
- 1:26Speaker 2: time today. Mississippi State, Alabama, looks like it's going to
- 1:29Speaker 2: be a wet track on Saturday. Your thoughts on everything
- 1:33Speaker 2: going on in Starkville with Kamario Taylor as they take
- 1:35Speaker 2: on their toughest opponent yet in Alabama?
- 1:39Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I mean, he's been phenomenal, especially throwing
- 1:43Speaker 4: the ball down the field when you look at his
- 1:45Speaker 4: numbers on TFF. They just the explosiveness of the offense.
- 1:50Speaker 4: I do think one thing, and I'm sure you guys
- 1:51Speaker 4: have talked about it. They'll have to trim the penalties
- 1:54Speaker 4: this weekend. You don't want that to catch you. I mean,
- 1:57Speaker 4: they're on that side of the, the third sheet, if
- 2:01Speaker 4: you will, the SPS penalties teams with most penalties. So
- 2:05Speaker 4: they'll have to clean that up. But I think Kamara
- 2:07Speaker 4: has been fantastic. Trinidad has been fantastic. And Keelan Russell,
- 2:11Speaker 4: the Alabama quarterback, I mean, right there, not the, I
- 2:13Speaker 4: still want you to click on the article, but those
- 2:16Speaker 4: are the top three quarterbacks. And I'll tell you what, Jake,
- 2:18Speaker 4: I didn't have much hesitation with those three. They've all
- 2:22Speaker 4: been great.
- 2:23Speaker 2: No, they have. They really have. When you look at
- 2:25Speaker 2: the game on Saturday, weather permitting, the chances for Mississippi
- 2:30Speaker 2: State to pull this thing off and get to 5-0,
- 2:33Speaker 2: do you give it 50%, less than 50%, a little
- 2:35Speaker 2: more than 50%? I mean, 50%.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Maybe a little less than 50, given where the spreads
- 2:41Speaker 4: at and it's still Alabama. But I mean, man, if that, uh, uh,
- 2:45Speaker 4: environment takes over in Starkville, I said with the thing
- 2:49Speaker 4: I said without hesitation, I'm sure your callers would agree that, uh, I,
- 2:53Speaker 4: this was probably the biggest game for them since Dak
- 2:55Speaker 4: Prescott had them at number one and they played Alabama, uh,
- 2:58Speaker 4: 14 now Alabama team was good. And this Alabama team's
- 3:04Speaker 4: really good. But I think the name recognition on some
- 3:06Speaker 4: of the Alabama guys now, uh, might be just the same.
- 3:09Speaker 4: So it's, uh, an exciting opportunity for Mississippi state, no doubt. And, and, and, and,
- 3:16Speaker 4: you know, like, so they win this one, you start
- 3:18Speaker 4: to look at the rest of their schedule and you're like, man,
- 3:21Speaker 4: they're going to shut, make a play out.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 3:24Speaker 2: There's no doubt with winnable games against Auburn and Vanderbilt
- 3:27Speaker 2: at home. And of course, Tennessee tech and then Oklahoma
- 3:29Speaker 2: and some others, um, this will kind of pair our
- 3:32Speaker 2: sec chatter, uh, you know, looking at some of your
- 3:35Speaker 2: core pre, you know, kind of re-rankings, um, with Taylor
- 3:39Speaker 2: and Chambliss and Russell at the top, and, of course,
- 3:41Speaker 2: Gunner Stockton at Georgia. Let me ask you about Georgia.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Georgia hasn't really played a quality opponent yet. I mean,
- 3:47Speaker 2: Oklahoma was supposed to be that, and we can kind
- 3:50Speaker 2: of talk Sooners and Dawgs together. Two guys go in
- 3:54Speaker 2: opposite ways. Gunner Stockton continues to rise in college football
- 3:58Speaker 2: and do what he's supposed to do. John Mateer, Bill,
- 4:01Speaker 2: I feel sorry for the guy. I don't know what's
- 4:02Speaker 2: happened to him.
- 4:05Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's been a rough season. They struggled
- 4:07Speaker 4: to run the football. His numbers aren't, like, terrible. It's
- 4:11Speaker 4: just the turnovers have come at the wrong time. Then
- 4:14Speaker 4: it's obviously a bad turnover against Georgia. Now, in fairness,
- 4:17Speaker 4: I think Georgia's going to do that to a lot
- 4:18Speaker 4: of people this year, and they're playing very well. I've
- 4:22Speaker 4: kind of phrased it all week, Jake, that I know
- 4:26Speaker 4: Texas has the best resume in the country, and I
- 4:29Speaker 4: won't say they shouldn't be number one based on resume,
- 4:32Speaker 4: but but I kind of think Georgia is the best
- 4:34Speaker 4: team in the country right now. And, you know, we'll
- 4:37Speaker 4: see how they go through the SEC grinder. It continues
- 4:40Speaker 4: this week against Vanderbilt. But Oklahoma certainly, you know, I
- 4:44Speaker 4: don't know. I mean, you can give me some feedback,
- 4:46Speaker 4: and I take constructive feedback as well. Like, I put
- 4:49Speaker 4: him here, I think, 13 or 14, and again, it
- 4:51Speaker 4: was like, I feel bad, but he's playing like the
- 4:55Speaker 4: 13th or 14th best quarterback in the SEC. Yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 2: No, I totally agree. You know, I put out what
- 5:01Speaker 2: I call my eye test each week, and I've got
- 5:04Speaker 2: Oklahoma right there at the bottom or close to the bottom,
- 5:06Speaker 2: you know, Arkansas at the very bottom. You know, and
- 5:10Speaker 2: that's indicative of what John Mateer's done. And your bottom
- 5:12Speaker 2: guy is Marcel Reed. I don't disagree with that. I mean,
- 5:16Speaker 2: he's a guy that was supposed to have that pop-off season.
- 5:18Speaker 2: He's got six touchdowns, four interceptions. And, boy, Texas A
- 5:22Speaker 2: & M, they look lost.
- 5:25Speaker 4: It's been a surprising part of the season. Again, they'll
- 5:28Speaker 4: play Arkansas this week, and there's a chance for him
- 5:31Speaker 4: to claw up a little bit, but at the 2-2
- 5:33Speaker 4: and just the turnovers, lack of consistent running game, defense
- 5:38Speaker 4: isn't quite the same. Now, granted, they did lose Cassius Howell,
- 5:42Speaker 4: who's making some plays for the Bengals right now on
- 5:45Speaker 4: that defense, so you can't control some of that, but
- 5:48Speaker 4: it's been an interesting up-and-down season for them. And then
- 5:52Speaker 4: the other one I wanted to mention was We have
- 5:54Speaker 4: Arch 8th, 7th or 8th, right in the middle there.
- 5:59Speaker 4: And some people might overreact to that. I think Arch
- 6:01Speaker 4: Manning's been fine. He hasn't been. It just speaks to
- 6:05Speaker 4: the level of quality of play of the quarterbacks within
- 6:07Speaker 4: the conference. I've been impressed, and I know Mississippi State
- 6:10Speaker 4: won the game. I've been impressed with Austin Simmons. at Missouri,
- 6:14Speaker 4: you know, 11 touchdowns, no interceptions, making plays, and they
- 6:18Speaker 4: would probably have been even better had they had a
- 6:20Speaker 4: Mod Hardy. I think he's having a nice season with
- 6:23Speaker 4: the Tigers.
- 6:25Speaker 2: No, I agree. And it'll be interesting because they take
- 6:27Speaker 2: on Florida this weekend, another marquee matchup in the SEC. And, Bill,
- 6:30Speaker 2: what do we make of the dismantling of Ole Miss?
- 6:33Speaker 2: You know, Aaron Filo, who's number seven on your list,
- 6:35Speaker 2: seven touchdowns, two interceptions. And when you look at Jaden
- 6:38Speaker 2: Ball and the way that he can run the football,
- 6:40Speaker 2: I mean, you have to make the argument he's the
- 6:41Speaker 2: best back in college football right now. But is this
- 6:44Speaker 2: kind of a game going to Missouri where, you know,
- 6:47Speaker 2: we saw Auburn put some points up on Florida. We
- 6:49Speaker 2: saw Florida play well at the Swamp. What do they
- 6:52Speaker 2: do on the road this week at Missouri?
- 6:53Speaker 4: You know, it's a really good question. I think Aaron
- 6:59Speaker 4: Filo's played well. John Summerall's been very impressive in year one.
- 7:05Speaker 4: He's very charismatic. It's just, it's kind of nice. I mean, I'm,
- 7:09Speaker 4: as you know, I don't have a dog in the hunt, but, uh,
- 7:12Speaker 4: it's kind of cool to see Florida back on the
- 7:14Speaker 4: map a little bit and the swamp rock and Bob's
- 7:17Speaker 4: been amazing. The rushing attack, but this is what Summerall
- 7:21Speaker 4: did at Tulane with Makai Hughes. It's what he did
- 7:24Speaker 4: at Troy before that with a collection of running backs.
- 7:27Speaker 4: I think he had Monte Vidal for a minute. Um,
- 7:30Speaker 4: But they know how to run the football and he
- 7:33Speaker 4: preaches toughness and he backs it up. But here's the
- 7:36Speaker 4: thing with the SEC. When you have a weekend like
- 7:39Speaker 4: last weekend, when you have four games with ranked teams,
- 7:41Speaker 4: somebody has to lose these games. So I really believe
- 7:46Speaker 4: that they're going to test the nine and three theory.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Like with all this cannibalization, do you get a nine
- 7:53Speaker 4: and three SEC team in the playoff that maybe doesn't
- 7:55Speaker 4: get to the conference championship game? I would say yes,
- 7:59Speaker 4: based on the quality of the games that are being played.
- 8:03Speaker 2: We're visiting with Bill Bender. Of course, you can find
- 8:05Speaker 2: him on X at BillBender92. Check him out at the
- 8:08Speaker 2: Sporting News. Bill, we've got a couple minutes left here
- 8:10Speaker 2: with you. I know you've got another appointment. We'll get
- 8:11Speaker 2: you right there. Oregon, they get the win over USC.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Does that put them back in the playoff conversation? What
- 8:17Speaker 2: does this mean for Lincoln Riley taking another big loss?
- 8:21Speaker 4: Yeah, let's start with Oregon. I mean, impressive Dylan Raiola.
- 8:25Speaker 4: He was amazing in place of Dante Moore under control
- 8:29Speaker 4: through the really good touchdown pass that DeCorey Moore had
- 8:32Speaker 4: a great conversion to Evan Stewart. Just speaks to what
- 8:36Speaker 4: Dan Lanning's able to do, knowing that his quarterbacks this
- 8:40Speaker 4: year have 14 touchdowns, zero interceptions. I think that's been
- 8:43Speaker 4: awesome to see. USC's got a culture problem. and you're
- 8:49Speaker 4: seeing that being written, but the reaction after the dirty hit,
- 8:53Speaker 4: even in the announcer's booth. Now I will say this, Jake, I, I,
- 8:57Speaker 4: one of the reasons I'd love college football is I
- 9:00Speaker 4: don't mind a little, you know, Homer ism in the booth.
- 9:03Speaker 4: If you know what I mean, I kind of liked that,
- 9:07Speaker 4: but they took it maybe a little too far on
- 9:09Speaker 4: that hit. And then they get beaten a big game again.
- 9:15Speaker 4: And they play Penn State next week, and they play
- 9:17Speaker 4: Washington this week. And I'm wondering if the heat isn't
- 9:20Speaker 4: going to turn up on Lincoln Riley a little bit. But,
- 9:22Speaker 4: you know, like I said, I always enjoy– if I'm
- 9:24Speaker 4: listening to like a Georgia-Tennessee game in the car and
- 9:28Speaker 4: the Tennessee announcer takes a swipe at Georgia, I always
- 9:31Speaker 4: laugh at it. But I guess I'm old school like that.
- 9:33Speaker 2: No, I'm the same way. I am the same way.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Bill Bender, make sure to get him on X. And,
- 9:37Speaker 2: of course, check him out at the Sporting News. Bill,
- 9:39Speaker 2: thank you so much for joining us on A Short Window.

- 9:43Speaker 2: next week.

- 11:16Speaker 2: on Highway 49 as well. Let's go over to Beave,
- 11:20Speaker 2: who's got a text or two for us. Beave, what's
- 11:23Speaker 2: going on?
- 11:23Speaker 3: Text messages. First, texter is Dexter.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Jake?
- 11:29Speaker 3: I really think they're going to try and pull this
- 11:31Speaker 3: 2014 playoff. What do you think? I guess they're paying
- 11:35Speaker 3: players money, so it's time to earn it.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Yes, they're going to do the 2014 playoff. And you
- 11:42Speaker 2: hit on a couple of it there. Yes, they're paying players.
- 11:45Speaker 2: There doesn't look like there's a hard cap in sight
- 11:47Speaker 2: for players. They're trying to do this through this D.C.
- 11:50Speaker 2: bill that's not going to pass. And at that point,
- 11:54Speaker 2: the numbers will continue to go up for players. And
- 11:57Speaker 2: you've got to have more money.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Right?
- 11:58Speaker 2: And so how do you get more money? You have
- 12:00Speaker 2: to try to create revenue. Well, you do that through
- 12:03Speaker 2: television contracts and you do that through an expanded playoff.
- 12:06Speaker 2: There's that side of it. And then there's some that
- 12:08Speaker 2: want more access. And the money is the biggest driving
- 12:11Speaker 2: factor to this because of what it will generate in
- 12:15Speaker 2: TV contracts. So each school is going to get more money, which,
- 12:19Speaker 2: you know, they'll spend that money and then they'll need
- 12:21Speaker 2: more money. Then they'll be looking for more money. But yes,
- 12:23Speaker 2: it's about money. And then some feel like, you know,
- 12:25Speaker 2: the access, we need more teams that Some have this
- 12:28Speaker 2: pipe dream. It's March Madness. We need to put all
- 12:32Speaker 2: the teams that, quote, need to be in there for
- 12:34Speaker 2: the Cinderella moment. So, yeah, we're going to 24.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Miko says, Beav, I'm impressed that Jake remembers to ask
- 12:40Speaker 3: about your steps every day.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Well, I've got to check on you and make sure
- 12:44Speaker 2: that you– because I really think you're challenging Gator Matt
- 12:47Speaker 2: at some point, and I want to make sure that
- 12:50Speaker 2: you're ready for that competition when that happens.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I've been getting ready for this, man. Yeah. Let's see,
- 12:56Speaker 3: Jake from Yazoo says, on track for 7.8 million steps
- 13:01Speaker 3: this year. It'll slow down when it gets cold. Get it, Beavs.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Ooh, he brings up, but cold weather doesn't bother you. So, like, November, December,
- 13:12Speaker 2: you're going to be out there in 40-degree weather to
- 13:14Speaker 2: get the steps in, aren't you?
- 13:16Speaker 4: Yeah, probably.
- 13:17Speaker 3: You know, I've already thought about this, actually. It's so
- 13:19Speaker 3: interesting that Jake from Yazoo brings this up, because... I
- 13:24Speaker 3: don't know how that's going to go. I have wondered,
- 13:26Speaker 3: how is that going to go? But then I realized,
- 13:28Speaker 3: you know what? I mean, November, December around here doesn't
- 13:35Speaker 3: really get that cold. So I think it can continue.
- 13:40Speaker 2: You'll have a couple weeks where it'll get brisk. And
- 13:42Speaker 2: then January, February, we may have that cold snap, you know,
- 13:46Speaker 2: where we get, God forbid, ice or whatever. But yeah,
- 13:49Speaker 2: it's not much.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Yeah. And Possum Neck Joe, text of the day. I
- 13:53Speaker 3: don't care what comes next. You cannot defeat Possum Neck
- 13:56Speaker 3: Joe because A1, it's reigniting a rivalry with Joe Mailman.
- 14:04Speaker 3: And B2, he used the Warriors reference to do it.
- 14:08Speaker 3: And it just says, Joe Mailman, come out to play.
- 14:14Speaker 3: He literally typed it that way. Play. I appreciate that
- 14:19Speaker 3: so much, Joe.
- 14:21Speaker 2: That's really good. My question for Joe is, does he
- 14:25Speaker 2: still think Kamario Taylor is 6'1, 170 pounds?
- 14:30Speaker 3: I think he reached a point where he had him
- 14:33Speaker 3: down to like 140, actually.
- 14:36Speaker 2: So I would hope that Joe was on the Kamario
- 14:39Speaker 2: Taylor bandwagon at this point.
- 14:41Speaker 3: And that's going to catch us up for now.
- 14:42Speaker 2: All right. Bill Bender did go in and re-rank, who
- 14:46Speaker 2: we just had on last segment, the quarterbacks in the SEC.
- 14:49Speaker 2: And he puts, you know, great writing is always behind it,
- 14:53Speaker 2: and reason, rhyme to reason, he has Kamario Taylor as
- 14:56Speaker 2: the number one quarterback in the SEC right now. I
- 14:59Speaker 2: don't have a problem with this, and I don't know
- 15:01Speaker 2: that many people would have a problem with this. I mean,
- 15:03Speaker 2: at least, and again, Josh Pate did a really good
- 15:09Speaker 2: monologue on the AP poll this week, and he will
- 15:12Speaker 2: blister the AP poll, and I love it. Because not
- 15:16Speaker 2: that we're against writers, it's just how many people really
- 15:19Speaker 2: are doing research when they vote in the AP poll.
- 15:23Speaker 2: And I think the AP poll has lost so much
- 15:24Speaker 2: credibility over the years. There's a big reason why the
- 15:27Speaker 2: AP poll is not a part of the college football
- 15:29Speaker 2: playoff selection committee's process. Notice, the AP poll is kind
- 15:34Speaker 2: of the standard up until the first official college football
- 15:38Speaker 2: playoff poll, and then all the rankings that you see
- 15:41Speaker 2: on TV will switch. AP disappears, and it's the college
- 15:45Speaker 2: football playoff rankings. I'm going to hold that thought, though.
- 15:48Speaker 2: We're going to go to the phones. Let's go to
- 15:49Speaker 2: Louisville George. George, happy Wednesday.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Happy Wednesday, Jake.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Just a quick thing.
- 15:56Speaker 1: I think it's Monday, like 5 o'clock when you have
- 16:03Speaker 1: him on, I think. Yeah, Monday. What's the dude's name
- 16:07Speaker 1: that knows so much about everything?
- 16:09Speaker 2: Chris Landry.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Landry, because I really like him a lot. I'm
- 16:13Speaker 1: just curious. Because when he came on last Monday, he
- 16:17Speaker 1: pretty much had on a 1-10 about anything good about
- 16:22Speaker 1: Ole Miss' football team, maybe a 1. If you remember,
- 16:27Speaker 1: he was just, they're not a playoff team. I never
- 16:30Speaker 1: had them in the playoffs. They don't have this. I mean,
- 16:32Speaker 1: he didn't– it was just– I just wondered your thoughts
- 16:37Speaker 1: on that and if you've got– if anybody, any Ole
- 16:40Speaker 1: Miss people– have called and texted or something and commented
- 16:44Speaker 1: because he was pretty, a little harsh might be too much,
- 16:47Speaker 1: but then again, it might not. He was pretty, he
- 16:52Speaker 1: didn't think that they were a top 40 team. You
- 16:54Speaker 1: know what I'm saying?
- 16:55Speaker 2: Yeah, no, he was. I just thought it.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Was interesting the way it wasn't just, well, it was,
- 17:03Speaker 1: Trinidad's okay, and other than that, he didn't, oh, he
- 17:07Speaker 1: didn't even like to coach. He didn't even like to
- 17:09Speaker 1: coach him. I don't think he liked anything. In any case,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I'll take your comments.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Off the air.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Okay?
- 17:16Speaker 4: Thanks.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Thank you, George. Appreciate it. Landry was pretty direct about
- 17:22Speaker 2: Ole Miss and said, hey, look, I didn't think they
- 17:24Speaker 2: were a college football playoff team. Now, if you go
- 17:26Speaker 2: look at the numbers, and I will reference efficiency numbers
- 17:31Speaker 2: courtesy of ESPN, through the FPI system. It's not FPI.
- 17:35Speaker 2: I do not like FPI. But when you look at
- 17:37Speaker 2: the efficiency numbers– Ole Miss, defensively, that's the Achilles heel
- 17:42Speaker 2: right now. And we had Jake Thompson on yesterday talking
- 17:45Speaker 2: about Ole Miss, and the tackling at Ole Miss has
- 17:48Speaker 2: been not good. It's been pretty putrid, honestly. And space
- 17:52Speaker 2: tackling has not been good. And, you know, if you
- 17:55Speaker 2: look at Ole Miss right now, they're 13th in the
- 17:58Speaker 2: country in efficiency on offense, which is a playoff-type offense.
- 18:02Speaker 2: If you're 15 to 17 and in, you know, we'll
- 18:05Speaker 2: move that even to 20 and in because now you've
- 18:07Speaker 2: got an expanded 12-team playoff. This margin for error will
- 18:12Speaker 2: move at 24 teams to probably 30 on both scales.
- 18:16Speaker 2: But Ole Miss has a team offensively that is capable
- 18:20Speaker 2: of winning a playoff game and getting into the playoffs.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Defensively right now, they're not 75th in the country. It's
- 18:27Speaker 2: not going to happen. It's never happened. You go back
- 18:30Speaker 2: to the BCS. You go back to the four-team model
- 18:34Speaker 2: in the playoff. You go to the 12-team model. 75th
- 18:37Speaker 2: in the country defensively. They've got a lot of ground
- 18:39Speaker 2: to make up defensively. And, you know, is that schematic?
- 18:43Speaker 2: Is it players? You know, it could be a combination
- 18:47Speaker 2: of that. But, yeah, Landry was, you know, pretty frank
- 18:50Speaker 2: about that. And Ole Miss has got to get that
- 18:53Speaker 2: defense moving. I mean, if you go look at Ole
- 18:55Speaker 2: Miss right now defensively, again, outside the efficiency numbers, and
- 19:00Speaker 2: that's where the Achilles heel is right now for Ole Miss.
- 19:03Speaker 2: They could not get off the field against Florida when
- 19:05Speaker 2: they needed to. They would make a touchdown. They'd bring
- 19:07Speaker 2: it back in 10 to within 10. They would need
- 19:09Speaker 2: to get off the field. They couldn't get off the field.
- 19:11Speaker 2: They're giving up 31 points a game. 31 points a game.
- 19:16Speaker 2: And right now as they sit averaging 36 a game
- 19:19Speaker 2: and giving up 31 a game, those types of numbers
- 19:23Speaker 2: on offense and defense, that levels out to about a
- 19:26Speaker 2: 6-6 or 7-5 team if you stay on that trajectory.
- 19:30Speaker 2: It happens every year. Anytime you have offensive and defensive
- 19:35Speaker 2: numbers that were are within a touchdown difference you can
- 19:39Speaker 2: go look it up for yourself do you i mean
- 19:40Speaker 2: you don't have to listen to me don't believe me
- 19:42Speaker 2: go look it up yourself if you're within a touchdown
- 19:45Speaker 2: difference most of those teams are going to be six
- 19:46Speaker 2: and six seven and five five and seven right there
- 19:48Speaker 2: in that number and that's kind of where old miss's
- 19:50Speaker 2: numbers are right now now they've only lost one ball
- 19:53Speaker 2: game they have a chance to improve those numbers against
- 19:56Speaker 2: vanderbilt in missouri uh before and i think they'll win
- 19:59Speaker 2: both those ball games but then they have to go
- 20:02Speaker 2: to texas they'll have a winnable ball game against auburn
- 20:06Speaker 2: Georgia may be the best team in the country right now.
- 20:10Speaker 2: They very well may be the best team in the country.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Oklahoma on the road, they'll have an opportunity there. Wofford.
- 20:16Speaker 2: And then, of course, Mississippi State is going to be
- 20:17Speaker 2: a coin flip ball game this year. There is no
- 20:20Speaker 2: doubt about it if both teams are healthy. So, you know,
- 20:22Speaker 2: if you look at it, Ole Miss has probably got one, two, three, four,
- 20:24Speaker 2: five wins, which would get them around eight. They're going
- 20:28Speaker 2: to have to play better defensively if they're going to
- 20:30Speaker 2: knock off a Texas on the road, a Georgia at home,
- 20:34Speaker 2: Mississippi State at home, you know, not lose to Oklahoma
- 20:38Speaker 2: to get that ninth or tenth win. It's going to
- 20:40Speaker 2: come out of that defense. It's not going to come
- 20:41Speaker 2: out of the offense. They can score it. Trinidad and
- 20:43Speaker 2: Chamberlain is one of the best in the country. You
- 20:45Speaker 2: can make an argument he's the best in the country.

- 22:36Speaker 2: Mississippi Sports Medicine. All right, Bill Bender was re-ranking the
- 22:39Speaker 2: SEC quarterbacks. He has Camario Taylor at number one. Again,
- 22:43Speaker 2: you look at his body of work. He's 10 of 21.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Let's see. According to Pro Football Focus, man, these numbers
- 22:52Speaker 2: are just insane. I mean, any way you stack them up,
- 22:54Speaker 2: they're number. Trinidad Chambliss, number two in the SEC. He
- 22:57Speaker 2: was one of the top quarterbacks in the country coming
- 22:59Speaker 2: into the season. He's still one of the top quarterbacks
- 23:01Speaker 2: in the country. As long as he's playing, Ole Miss
- 23:04Speaker 2: has got a puncher's chance every week. Trinidad Chambliss at
- 23:07Speaker 2: number two. Kaelin Russell, who will be the counterpart there
- 23:10Speaker 2: in Starville on Saturday at number three. He's improved with
- 23:13Speaker 2: every start under Kalen DeBoer, and the five-star talent is
- 23:17Speaker 2: materializing into a potential Heisman finalist depending on how their
- 23:20Speaker 2: season goes. He has had back-to-back 300-yard games against Florida
- 23:24Speaker 2: State and South Carolina. He's 14 of 20. That's 70%
- 23:27Speaker 2: completion percentage on passes of 20 yards or more and
- 23:31Speaker 2: has eight runs of 10 yards or more. So, you know,
- 23:34Speaker 2: he is a true dual threat, 11-on-11 quarterback. Kamario Taylor
- 23:38Speaker 2: is the same way. And I hope you get a
- 23:42Speaker 2: little bit of a dry track on Saturday to be
- 23:44Speaker 2: able to see both these guys really put on a show.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Gunnar Stockton at number four on Bill Bender's reanalyzing of
- 23:51Speaker 2: the SEC quarterbacks a month in. Don't have a problem
- 23:54Speaker 2: with Gunnar Stockton there. Ten touchdowns, one interception. Again, they
- 23:58Speaker 2: haven't really played a whole lot of competition. Arkansas is
- 24:01Speaker 2: not any good. Oklahoma doesn't look to be any good. And,
- 24:06Speaker 2: you know, when you look at Gunnar Stockton, what he's
- 24:08Speaker 2: been able to do, It's been impressive. Sam Levitt at
- 24:12Speaker 2: number five. And when you look at Sam Levitt, he's
- 24:17Speaker 2: been up and down a little bit. I mean, you know,
- 24:19Speaker 2: five touchdowns, six interceptions, but he has rushed for six touchdowns. He,
- 24:25Speaker 2: you know, has dealt with a hamstring injury early in
- 24:27Speaker 2: the season. We know he's injury prone. We still don't
- 24:30Speaker 2: really know how good LSU is or not. I mean,
- 24:35Speaker 2: it's not that they're not. They are good. How good
- 24:37Speaker 2: are they? Sam Levitt's going to be a big picture
- 24:40Speaker 2: of that or a big part of that at number
- 24:42Speaker 2: five for Bill Bender. Number six, Austin Simmons at Missouri.
- 24:44Speaker 2: You saw him this past week in Starville. Has still
- 24:47Speaker 2: not thrown an interception. He had one that was called
- 24:49Speaker 2: back or actually was a drop. It hit the ground
- 24:52Speaker 2: the other night in Starville. 947 yards, 11 touchdowns, zero interceptions.
- 24:58Speaker 2: I'm very intrigued to see Missouri take on Florida this
- 25:01Speaker 2: weekend and see what that looks like. I know Florida
- 25:04Speaker 2: fans probably feel they'll go in there and ramsack them,
- 25:06Speaker 2: and maybe they will. I don't think that they will.
- 25:09Speaker 2: I think that Missouri will be in that ballgame. The
- 25:12Speaker 2: other quarterback on the other side of that coin, Aaron Filo, Florida.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Seven touchdowns, two interceptions, three rushing touchdowns. He's got one
- 25:19Speaker 2: of the best running backs, if not the best, in
- 25:22Speaker 2: the backfield with him in Jaden Ball. Gators ranked 11th
- 25:26Speaker 2: this week coming into FBS in rushing attack, averaging 260
- 25:29Speaker 2: yards a game. Philo averaged 200 yards passing a game.
- 25:33Speaker 2: And you talk about a balance, run-pass balance. Florida, that's
- 25:36Speaker 2: one of the things that John Summerall and their offensive
- 25:39Speaker 2: staff have done is they have created immense value and
- 25:44Speaker 2: balance in their offense. A little bit more rush, a
- 25:48Speaker 2: little less pass, but, boy, it's really close at 260
- 25:51Speaker 2: and 200 a game. Arch Manning at number eight on
- 25:55Speaker 2: this list, seven touchdowns, three interceptions. He's rushed for 82
- 25:58Speaker 2: yards and no touchdowns. And, again... Marginal numbers for Manning.
- 26:02Speaker 2: He's looked good at times. He's looked very average at times. And, again,
- 26:07Speaker 2: I still think his best football is in front of him,
- 26:09Speaker 2: but he's not lighting it up like a lot of
- 26:11Speaker 2: people felt like. Like B felt like he probably would.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Kenny Minchie at Kentucky comes in at number nine, eight
- 26:17Speaker 2: touchdowns and one interception. Minchie, of course, a Notre Dame transfer,
- 26:22Speaker 2: has shown pretty darn good development under Will Stein, his
- 26:26Speaker 2: first-year head coach. Kentucky's three and one. They could get
- 26:28Speaker 2: to four and one. Look, if Kentucky beats South Carolina,
- 26:31Speaker 2: that's another storyline for Saturday. State of Alabama, top of
- 26:35Speaker 2: the pinnacle in the country to me this weekend. I
- 26:38Speaker 2: know game day is going to Ohio State and Iowa,
- 26:41Speaker 2: and I think that's indicative of just the SEC has
- 26:43Speaker 2: kind of been the showcase, so they're trying to get
- 26:45Speaker 2: outside the Sun Belt, get into some other places. Because
- 26:50Speaker 2: Ohio State should– man, I'll tell you what, if Iowa
- 26:53Speaker 2: was to upset Ohio State on Saturday– You can go
- 26:58Speaker 2: ahead and just about book Iowa to the playoff, believe
- 27:00Speaker 2: it or not. You can just about put Iowa in
- 27:02Speaker 2: the playoff because the rest of their schedule is not
- 27:03Speaker 2: that hard, which is crazy. And they still may make
- 27:06Speaker 2: the playoff with a loss. But I think State, Alabama
- 27:09Speaker 2: is at number one. We'll check out and see what
- 27:11Speaker 2: Iowa does against Ohio State. Florida, Missouri, and then South Carolina,
- 27:15Speaker 2: Kentucky is very intriguing to me because if Shane Beamer,
- 27:19Speaker 2: who has gone on a rant about practice this week,
- 27:22Speaker 2: I like the way some people have said it's the
- 27:24Speaker 2: anti- Opposite of Allen Iverson. If you remember Allen Iverson,
- 27:28Speaker 2: remember the practice rant he went on about why practice?
- 27:31Speaker 2: It's just practice. Beamer went on his rant about practice
- 27:35Speaker 2: and how important practice was. And people are now crowning
- 27:38Speaker 2: them the practice champions, which is kind of funny on
- 27:41Speaker 2: the Internet. But if he loses this weekend to Kentucky,
- 27:46Speaker 2: that may be it. There may be no more speeches.
- 27:50Speaker 2: There may be nothing else for him to say. Remember,
- 27:52Speaker 2: Shane Beamer was the guy who said, I can't wait.
- 27:55Speaker 2: to see where we are when the college football rankings
- 27:57Speaker 2: come out next year. He said that at this time.
- 28:01Speaker 2: And that was like three weeks into the college football
- 28:03Speaker 2: playoff rankings. So they've got to win this weekend. Kenny
- 28:05Speaker 2: Mitchie at number nine. Number 10, Faison Brandon for Tennessee.
- 28:09Speaker 2: He's got a chance to be really good. Seven touchdowns,
- 28:13Speaker 2: no interceptions. Now he got sacked double digits the other day.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I think it was 10 or 11 against Texas. I
- 28:18Speaker 2: don't know that they, we'll see against Harvard. Do they
- 28:20Speaker 2: have offensive line problems or was Texas just that good
- 28:22Speaker 2: up front? We'll see a little, you know, Starstruck just
- 28:25Speaker 2: playing in that moment. That's the first big game he's
- 28:27Speaker 2: played in, but he's got a big career ahead of him.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Byron Brown, a guy who a lot of people felt
- 28:34Speaker 2: like would be an upper-tier SEC quarterback. So far, six touchdowns,
- 28:38Speaker 2: five interceptions, three rushing touchdowns. He took seven sacks in
- 28:43Speaker 2: Week 3 in a loss to Florida, which has skewed
- 28:47Speaker 2: an otherwise solid first month for Golis and Auburn. Brown
- 28:50Speaker 2: averages 15.5 touchdowns. Carries per game, also maintained a similar
- 28:55Speaker 2: completion percentage to what he had at South Florida last season,
- 28:59Speaker 2: but he ranks 15th in the SEC in passer rating.
- 29:03Speaker 2: Lenore Sellers at 12, six touchdowns, four interceptions. Look, I
- 29:08Speaker 2: think we've seen enough to know that Lenore Sellers is
- 29:11Speaker 2: probably a good dude. He's got a lot of talent,
- 29:14Speaker 2: but he's not the guy everybody tried to make him be.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Everybody wanted to make him be What Kamario Taylor is,
- 29:25Speaker 2: what Trinidad Chambliss is, he is not. He will give
- 29:29Speaker 2: you some moments that look really good, and then he
- 29:32Speaker 2: will give you some moments that make you go, wow,
- 29:35Speaker 2: he just did that. He's a nice player, but he's
- 29:39Speaker 2: not the guy. He's not that guy. And, you know,
- 29:43Speaker 2: the media tried to get us to buy off on,
- 29:46Speaker 2: you know, Lenore Sellers, DJ Lagway last year, like it
- 29:51Speaker 2: was Trinidad Chambliss and Kamario Taylor, and it's not, or
- 29:53Speaker 2: Keelan Russell. So he has fallen back to 12th, and
- 29:57Speaker 2: that's probably about fair. Jared Curtis at Vanderbilt, he's a
- 30:00Speaker 2: true freshman, five-star. He's got four touchdowns, three interceptions. He's
- 30:04Speaker 2: learning on the job, but he'll be a good one.
- 30:07Speaker 2: You've got some really good young quarterbacks. I mean, when
- 30:09Speaker 2: you talk about Curtis at Vanderbilt, Taylor at State, Brandon
- 30:14Speaker 2: at Tennessee, Minchie at Kentucky. I mean, there's some– and,
- 30:18Speaker 2: of course, Russell at Alabama. I mean, there's some really
- 30:22Speaker 2: good young quarterbacks. John Mateer at 14th, and I don't
- 30:25Speaker 2: even know if that's– I mean, he may be worse
- 30:27Speaker 2: than that. Eight touchdowns, four interceptions. He does not have
- 30:30Speaker 2: a rushing touchdown. And the Mateer-led Sooners have scored just
- 30:34Speaker 2: 29 points in the last three weeks against Michigan, New Mexico,
- 30:37Speaker 2: and Georgia. Mateer has committed six turnovers, including four interceptions
- 30:42Speaker 2: and two fumbles. Three of those turnovers have led to
- 30:45Speaker 2: TDs by the opposing team. So it's been a massive
- 30:49Speaker 2: disaster for John Mateer.
- 30:51Speaker 4: K.J.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Jackson at Arkansas, number 15. And number 16, Marcel Reed.
- 30:55Speaker 2: When you look at Marcel Reed, I mean, just not good.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Six touchdowns, four picks, one rushing touchdown. Struggled with turnovers
- 31:04Speaker 2: in the first month of the season for the Aggies.
- 31:07Speaker 2: So it's not been good for Mike Coco. I think
- 31:10Speaker 2: these rankings are spot on, and we'll dive into a
- 31:12Speaker 2: little more of that and this realignment when we get back.

- 32:27Speaker 2: We appreciate Drew DeArmond. Also appreciate Bill Bender jumping on
- 32:32Speaker 2: your radio as talking SEC football. Again, talking Bill Bender's
- 32:36Speaker 2: rankings for quarterbacks, re-rankings. have no problems with these rankings
- 32:41Speaker 2: by Bill. Does a great job as always. All right,
- 32:44Speaker 2: we talked a little bit about this projecting this conference realignment.
- 32:48Speaker 2: If this bill was to pass, which if the bill passes,
- 32:50Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to pass, but if it
- 32:52Speaker 2: passes and everything stays the way it is, which again,
- 32:55Speaker 2: it's a crapshoot that it would, 20 teams is where
- 33:01Speaker 2: we'd be capped per conference, 20 teams. And we talked
- 33:05Speaker 2: about this on the Article on on3. com, the Big Ten
- 33:09Speaker 2: has two teams left to get to 20. They settle
- 33:13Speaker 2: in on Miami and Virginia because of TV markets and
- 33:16Speaker 2: also the AAU affiliation by those universities, the American Alliance
- 33:26Speaker 2: of Universities or the Alliance of American Universities, whatever it is,
- 33:29Speaker 2: whatever that acronym is. Let's see, the Association of American Universities.
- 33:33Speaker 2: SEC's got four spots in. Teams to consider, Clemson, Duke,
- 33:37Speaker 2: Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Texas Tech, and Virginia
- 33:41Speaker 2: and Virginia Tech. And, you know, remember Clemson and Florida
- 33:45Speaker 2: State sued the ACC because of realignment issues. Those are
- 33:49Speaker 2: two teams that they feel like would get into the SEC.
- 33:53Speaker 2: You would get into, you know, you already got a
- 33:56Speaker 2: big presence in the Florida market, but you'd get a
- 33:58Speaker 2: big brand with Florida State. Clemson, you'd get, you know,
- 34:00Speaker 2: you got a big brand in the South Carolina, North
- 34:02Speaker 2: Carolina area, but Clemson would get you you know, a
- 34:05Speaker 2: historic program there. North Carolina and Virginia Tech were also
- 34:09Speaker 2: among the seven schools that explored the potential to break
- 34:12Speaker 2: the ACC Grants of Rights Agreement. And they also said
- 34:17Speaker 2: that they could see Texas Tech mega booster Cody Campbell
- 34:20Speaker 2: lobbying to get Texas Tech into the SEC. And Duke
- 34:23Speaker 2: would also garner serious consideration. So, you know, I think
- 34:26Speaker 2: if you've got four teams, you know, Virginia Tech is
- 34:31Speaker 2: one that would get consideration. They feel like, though, the
- 34:35Speaker 2: Athletic does, that Virginia Tech would be one of those teams.
- 34:38Speaker 2: North Carolina would be one of those teams. You bring
- 34:40Speaker 2: in a traditional basketball powerhouse there as well. So you've
- 34:44Speaker 2: got Virginia Tech and you've got North Carolina and you've
- 34:46Speaker 2: got Clemson and Florida State that would get into the
- 34:49Speaker 2: SEC to make it officially 20 teams. The ACC sits
- 34:54Speaker 2: at 17 teams. They've got three spots available, but now
- 34:58Speaker 2: if things go to the domino effect... And teams leave
- 35:02Speaker 2: the ACC. For instance, if those four teams left the ACC,
- 35:06Speaker 2: now you would get down to 14. You'd have six left.
- 35:09Speaker 2: So Army, James Madison, Memphis, Miami of Ohio, Navy, Notre Dame,
- 35:14Speaker 2: Oregon State, South Florida, Tulane, UConn, Washington State. When you
- 35:20Speaker 2: kind of look through this, the ACC got through the
- 35:23Speaker 2: last round of realignment despite challenges from within its own league,
- 35:26Speaker 2: but it sits in a vulnerable spot. Its TV rights
- 35:29Speaker 2: deal lags way behind the SEC and Big Ten. And
- 35:33Speaker 2: though the contract with ESPN ends in 2036, the penalty
- 35:35Speaker 2: for leaving drops to $ 75 million after 2031. It's no
- 35:39Speaker 2: coincidence that the higher conference caps came from a Florida politician,
- 35:44Speaker 2: and with the ACC gutted in this hypothetical, that would
- 35:49Speaker 2: mean it would have to find up to nine schools
- 35:52Speaker 2: to reach 20 teams. It could start by raiding Army, Navy, Memphis, Tulane,
- 35:57Speaker 2: and South Florida from the American. So what would happen
- 36:00Speaker 2: is if the ACC is gutted, it officially becomes the
- 36:03Speaker 2: American because if you start bringing in Army, Navy, Memphis, Tulane,
- 36:07Speaker 2: and South Florida, nothing wrong with those schools, you're becoming
- 36:10Speaker 2: the American. James Madison is another one who is off
- 36:14Speaker 2: to a strong start, believe it or not, under Billy Napier,
- 36:16Speaker 2: but that's a tradition-rich program in that part of the country.
- 36:21Speaker 2: They would probably be one that they would target. UConn
- 36:23Speaker 2: is another. And then the ACC passed on taking Washington
- 36:28Speaker 2: State and Oregon State when The old Pac-12 crumbled. But
- 36:31Speaker 2: if it wanted to reach the 20-team limit, it'd probably
- 36:35Speaker 2: have to reconsider those teams. You would get a more
- 36:38Speaker 2: West Coast flavor, even though you're the ACC. I would
- 36:42Speaker 2: change my conference name, honestly, because at that point you're
- 36:45Speaker 2: no longer the Atlantic Coast Conference. You would have Cal.
- 36:49Speaker 2: You would have Stanford. You would have Washington State. You
- 36:52Speaker 2: would have Oregon in this scenario. So you've got a,
- 36:55Speaker 2: you know, I would change it. I would just change it.
- 36:58Speaker 2: The Big 12 is at 16. It needs four spots.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Teams considered Boise State, Colorado State, Florida State. Florida State
- 37:05Speaker 2: I don't think is going there. Memphis, Miami of Ohio,
- 37:09Speaker 2: North Dakota State, San Diego State, and UNLV. Would those
- 37:12Speaker 2: spots to fill Boise seems like it would be a
- 37:14Speaker 2: shoo-in in the type of team they would go after.
- 37:17Speaker 2: San Diego State has been very competitive. They would likely
- 37:19Speaker 2: go there. UNLV has had a resurgence of sorts, not
- 37:24Speaker 2: even just under Dan Mullen, but prior to Dan Mullen
- 37:27Speaker 2: over the last several years, and North Dakota State. So
- 37:29Speaker 2: you're looking at probably those four teams if you make
- 37:32Speaker 2: the flip there as well, and that would likely round
- 37:36Speaker 2: out your four big conferences. So, you know, again, what
- 37:42Speaker 2: nobody is addressing in all of this, and it's sad
- 37:45Speaker 2: to me that nobody's addressing this, all we're addressing is
- 37:50Speaker 2: how to make more money, how to maybe hopefully cap
- 37:54Speaker 2: money in rosters, and you're not going to do that,
- 37:56Speaker 2: you know, transfers and that kind of stuff. But if
- 37:59Speaker 2: you see a seismic shift to 20 teams in each conference,
- 38:05Speaker 2: you still have all the other conferences left, the group
- 38:07Speaker 2: of six, and the divide is going to be so wide.
- 38:10Speaker 2: I mean, you think it's wide today, you just wait.
- 38:14Speaker 2: We talked about at the beginning of the season after
- 38:16Speaker 2: week one how many teams upsets we had versus previous
- 38:21Speaker 2: years from fcs or you know group of six teams
- 38:23Speaker 2: to division one to you know power four teams and
- 38:26Speaker 2: it's almost none i mean i think it was like
- 38:28Speaker 2: one or two and traditionally you would get six or
- 38:30Speaker 2: seven maybe even eight that divide is going to continue
- 38:34Speaker 2: to widen i mean you're basically a division two tier
- 38:41Speaker 2: and there's nothing wrong with that in the group of
- 38:42Speaker 2: six with a major division one where the money is
- 38:46Speaker 2: light years away the talent is light years away Nobody
- 38:49Speaker 2: is trying to, you know, we talk about the Protect
- 38:52Speaker 2: College Sports Act. Nobody is protecting the smaller schools in
- 38:57Speaker 2: any of this. None of it. I mean, you can
- 39:01Speaker 2: do all the political posturing you want. You can do
- 39:03Speaker 2: all the filibustering you want. Nobody's protecting the small schools.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Nobody's protecting Southern Miss. Nobody's protecting Jackson State. Nobody's protecting
- 39:12Speaker 2: Louisiana Tech. Those schools are not protected. They're going to
- 39:16Speaker 2: get crumbs just like they're getting now, and it's going
- 39:18Speaker 2: to only get worse, and that divide only continues. Let's
- 39:21Speaker 2: see here. I've got just a couple minutes left here.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Let me see if there's any other notes to drop
- 39:25Speaker 2: your way before we get to it. College football defensive
- 39:31Speaker 2: points per game leaders. Iowa leads the country. They take
- 39:34Speaker 2: on Ohio State this weekend. They're only giving up eight
- 39:36Speaker 2: points per game. Notre Dame is only giving up 8.3
- 39:38Speaker 2: points per game. Pittsburgh, the Panthers, 8.5 points per game.
- 39:42Speaker 2: The U, Miami, nine points per game. Indiana, 9.8 points
- 39:46Speaker 2: per game. Utah, 10.3.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Duke.
- 39:47Speaker 2: 11 points per game. And, again, let's watch Duke. This
- 39:54Speaker 2: is the defending ACC champions. And Duke is having a,
- 39:59Speaker 2: you know, they're off to a good start. I mean,
- 40:02Speaker 2: they still got a long way to go. And then,
- 40:03Speaker 2: of course, you got New Mexico. We talked about 11.5.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Penn State, they got beat this past weekend 11.5. And Nebraska,
- 40:08Speaker 2: 12 points per game. Appreciate Trudy Armand. Appreciate Bill Bender. Remember,
- 40:13Speaker 2: ketchup is king, bacon's a delicacy. Aloha means goodbye. Be
- 40:16Speaker 2: a man of increase. We have reached a crescendo on
- 40:18Speaker 2: a Wednesday. See you tomorrow.
