Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, Emily A Badi here you are listening to
- 0:22Speaker 1: an episode of Five Minute Friday from Hurdle.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I feel like I am finally back.
- 0:28Speaker 1: My voice is in full effect after last weeks marathon festivities.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I want to give so much thanks and appreciation to
- 0:38Speaker 1: everyone that came out, not just for the strength of
- 0:41Speaker 1: numbers conversation, but also for the events that happened throughout
- 0:45Speaker 1: the weekend, and also for showing up on Sunday. What
- 0:48Speaker 1: a special day here in New York, cheering on both
- 0:50Speaker 1: friends and strangers alike running through this amazing place as
- 0:56Speaker 1: a part of the New York Sity Marathon. I'm so
- 0:58Speaker 1: happy that I was able to be a part of it.
- 1:01Speaker 1: That that's that I want to talk this week about
- 1:05Speaker 1: morning routines for Five Minute Friday because I've been thinking
- 1:08Speaker 1: a lot about the benefit of slowing down lately. I
- 1:12Speaker 1: have talked before on the show about how diligent I've
- 1:17Speaker 1: been in the past with my morning routine, breath work, journaling,
- 1:22Speaker 1: an espresso, working out, et cetera. And a byproduct of
- 1:27Speaker 1: what happened leading up to the London Marathon.
- 1:30Speaker 2: At the London Marathon.
- 1:31Speaker 1: After the London Marathon and the aftermath, dealing with planter fasciitis,
- 1:35Speaker 1: dealing with the little knee wonkiness, dealing with the shoulder
- 1:39Speaker 1: after the bike accident. I'm following apart over here. A
- 1:42Speaker 1: byproduct of all of these injuries was that I really
- 1:46Speaker 1: had to slow down, and I mean physically in that
- 1:51Speaker 1: I am string training four days a week right now,
- 1:54Speaker 1: which is a big pivot from where I was previously
- 1:58Speaker 1: running four or five days a week. But on top
- 2:01Speaker 1: of the strength training, I'm doing a lot of walking.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And so I've completely rejiggered my morning routine in that
- 2:09Speaker 1: it will start with then espresso and the strength training,
- 2:13Speaker 1: but then I will get out for my walk and
- 2:18Speaker 1: I'll walk for about an hour, come back inside, do
- 2:22Speaker 1: breath work, do journaling, then get in the shower and
- 2:26Speaker 1: start the rest of my day, including breakfast and athletic
- 2:29Speaker 1: greens and whatnot. And I say this because I feel
- 2:33Speaker 1: like sometimes we need permission to be flexible in our methods.
- 2:36Speaker 1: We need permission to change the plan. We are inundated
- 2:40Speaker 1: so often by the things that we see on social
- 2:42Speaker 1: media about what we should be doing, and we're shoulting
- 2:47Speaker 1: on ourselves. But this morning routine that I've fallen into
- 2:51Speaker 1: lately is what I recognize works for me in this moment.
- 2:56Speaker 1: This is what feels good for me right now. And
- 2:58Speaker 1: I don't get down on my self on the mornings
- 3:00Speaker 1: where I do feel a little bit rushed and I
- 3:03Speaker 1: push that journaling until before I go to bed, or
- 3:06Speaker 1: the breath work until the middle of the afternoon when
- 3:08Speaker 1: I need a beat. The reality is is that I
- 3:11Speaker 1: recognize that I am doing the best I can in
- 3:13Speaker 1: this moment considering everything that is going on in my
- 3:17Speaker 1: life from work demands to injuries to personal to you
- 3:21Speaker 1: name it, and I find so much benefit here. I
- 3:25Speaker 1: am privileged to be able to work for myself, to
- 3:28Speaker 1: have the opportunity to slow down, to be able to
- 3:31Speaker 1: finish this routine by around eight forty five nine am
- 3:34Speaker 1: and then get into my workday. So I'm still getting
- 3:37Speaker 1: up with the sun and starting my day, but it's
- 3:40Speaker 1: just happening in another way than it used to, and
- 3:45Speaker 1: accepting that and being okay with that, and absorbing in
- 3:49Speaker 1: like the stillness and paying attention to my surroundings, especially
- 3:52Speaker 1: on these like five k walks that I'm going on,
- 3:56Speaker 1: just trying to get in my steps here. Uh, it
- 4:00Speaker 1: feels really beautiful and intentional and it's something that I
- 4:04Speaker 1: don't take for granted. And so this week, as a prompt,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I want to ask you.
- 4:11Speaker 2: What feels good for you right now?
- 4:13Speaker 1: Is there something that you're doing just because you feel
- 4:15Speaker 1: like you're supposed to. Is there something that you could
- 4:18Speaker 1: shift that would make your life feel better, maybe convenience
- 4:24Speaker 1: you a little bit more. Are you sticking to a
- 4:27Speaker 1: routine or a habit just because it's been in your
- 4:30Speaker 1: routine for some time? And is there opportunity to shake
- 4:34Speaker 1: things up? I'm not going to repeat that the summary.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Is there an opportunity for you to shake things up
- 4:42Speaker 1: and maybe just maybe slow down a little bit too?
- 4:48Speaker 1: And now I'll listen to our question.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Hi Emily, my name is Emily and I'm a huge
- 4:55Speaker 3: fan of the show. Your platform and purpose really resonate
- 4:58Speaker 3: with me, and I find myself excited to listen to
- 5:01Speaker 3: your new episodes each week. My question is how did
- 5:04Speaker 3: you discover your purpose and mission as an expert in
- 5:06Speaker 3: the field of health and wellness? Is your purpose something
- 5:09Speaker 3: you continue to or find as you grow and change.
- 5:11Speaker 3: I've been thinking a lot about what my purpose is lately,
- 5:13Speaker 3: but struggle to put it into words. Do you have
- 5:15Speaker 3: different purpose statements for different areas of your life? Thank
- 5:18Speaker 3: you so much for your time and constant inspiration. Have
- 5:21Speaker 3: an awesome day now.
- 5:22Speaker 1: This is a listener question, and Emily, thank you for
- 5:28Speaker 1: submitting it. My purpose is to help others, predominantly women,
- 5:33Speaker 1: live healthier, happier, more motivated lives in whatever way feels
- 5:38Speaker 1: right to them, and that is rooted in my journey.
- 5:44Speaker 1: That purpose is rooted in knowing what it feels like
- 5:49Speaker 1: to feel alone on a wellness journey, to feel othered,
- 5:54Speaker 1: and wanting others not to feel that way. And when
- 6:00Speaker 1: it came to creating that purpose, that mission statement of sorts,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I really came back to my values and the things
- 6:09Speaker 1: that feel important to me.
- 6:11Speaker 2: My values revolve around.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Five keywords curiosity, respect, kindness, community, and wellness. And when
- 6:22Speaker 1: I think of my purpose statement, let's call it that,
- 6:26Speaker 1: I believe it involves all of that. And so for
- 6:29Speaker 1: someone trying to articulate their purpose what they want to
- 6:34Speaker 1: do while they have the time here on this earth
- 6:39Speaker 1: and this life that we're given, I encourage you to
- 6:42Speaker 1: start by articulating your values and ask yourself what is
- 6:46Speaker 1: within your control? What is it that you want who
- 6:50Speaker 1: do you want to be and who are you? Do
- 6:53Speaker 1: those two align? And if not, why not? On the
- 6:58Speaker 1: note of whether or not you're is something that can
- 7:01Speaker 1: be refined with time. Of course, you're a growing, evolving,
- 7:07Speaker 1: ever changing human. We all are, and so be flexible
- 7:11Speaker 1: with yourself, have grace with yourself. Come back to that
- 7:14Speaker 1: purpose if you have one, and do an audit and
- 7:17Speaker 1: make sure that the things that were once important to
- 7:19Speaker 1: you are still important to you, knowing that there is
- 7:21Speaker 1: no shame in mixing things up. In fact, it would
- 7:25Speaker 1: be a little weird if once in a while you
- 7:27Speaker 1: didn't at least consider it. Make sure you're following along
- 7:31Speaker 1: with Hurdle over on social at Hurdle podcast, I am
- 7:33Speaker 1: over at Emily a Body another hurdle conquered.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Catch you guys next time.
