- 1:10Speaker 1: He does something better now it's unscripted. He still talks
- 1:12Speaker 1: about movies. He just doesn't have an echo chamber for
- 1:15Speaker 1: his bad takes. You can call me all pick up.
- 1:17Speaker 1: You just just divisterated, Teddy. He just do see he
- 1:20Speaker 1: loves stuff.
- 1:21Speaker 2: You buried the guy.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I went scorched earth on Teddy. I just I Every
- 1:27Speaker 3: goddamn day I get go on. We posted, we post
- 1:30Speaker 3: a clip, or we post the link, and I have
- 1:32Speaker 3: to see Hey man wins fo coming back Hey And
- 1:37Speaker 3: yet damn it, the incestuous love of cinema. It's a
- 1:40Speaker 3: great pod, is a great pot. Get over it, folks.
- 1:43Speaker 3: He does something better. It's unscripted, unscrippy with Verk and
- 1:48Speaker 3: de Mercy's even He's even top of the billing, still
- 1:51Speaker 3: top of the billing. He's got his own. He's got
- 1:54Speaker 3: his own segment played thirteen years in the NHL. I
- 1:57Speaker 3: don't have one segment. I'm just sitting here chatting it up.
- 2:00Speaker 3: With me and taller producer. That's just sitting with the
- 2:02Speaker 3: worst lighting, squinting like magoo over there.
- 2:05Speaker 1: If you don't like hockey, cinoph and sixty is what
- 2:08Speaker 1: Jay is referring to. And if you need to question
- 2:10Speaker 1: Jason's bona fides by the way he not only loves
- 2:13Speaker 1: but we said his passion about them. But his wife
- 2:14Speaker 1: is an acclaimed actress, Jillian Mueller, who perhaps will make
- 2:17Speaker 1: an appearance at some point. I know if it's today,
- 2:18Speaker 1: don't know what it's gonna be. But she gets fired
- 2:20Speaker 1: up about something one of my takes, maybe she'll come
- 2:22Speaker 1: off the top rope as well and see what she's
- 2:24Speaker 1: got to say.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Well, see she's listening because she heard a little bit
- 2:27Speaker 3: of last episode and I got I was on the
- 2:29Speaker 3: road with the Sharks doing some radio yeah, and I
- 2:32Speaker 3: got a huge long text message that I sent to you
- 2:35Speaker 3: being like she was like this is for ad Nan,
- 2:38Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh my god, I'm so glad she's
- 2:44Speaker 3: gonna come on. I think she's getting readied, just getting prepped.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Oh all right, gets clothes on. Here we go. Tails
- 2:49Speaker 2: from the road.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I was just in Toronto for the lightning and the
- 2:52Speaker 1: leafs as The Leafs are now four and oh on
- 2:53Speaker 1: Prime doing fantastic. Also, it's the Flyers Devils on Saturday.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Shout out to Ken Danigo hooked me and my son up.
- 2:59Speaker 1: We got the the wristbands, which are fantastic. Free chicken tenders,
- 3:02Speaker 1: steak unlimited, Pepsi ice cream, so things to Big Papa
- 3:04Speaker 1: Daniel Froking, it's up. Before I get your thoughts on that, though,
- 3:07Speaker 1: Mike Myers is at the game and I was like,
- 3:09Speaker 1: oh my god, how do we not have Mike Myers
- 3:11Speaker 1: on set? We've gona have conversations and I go way
- 3:13Speaker 1: back with Mike and they're like really, I'm like, oh
- 3:15Speaker 1: my god. When The Love Guru came out, which again
- 3:18Speaker 1: not many people have seen, there was a role that
- 3:21Speaker 1: was the audition for the movie for the role.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Of a sportscaster.
- 3:26Speaker 1: So I auditioned for it, didn't get the role, but
- 3:28Speaker 1: years whatever the movie came out. I had the audition,
- 3:31Speaker 1: excuse me, the chance to interview Mike because he's doing
- 3:35Speaker 1: the junket and as you know, the way the junkets go,
- 3:36Speaker 1: you get three minutes with this guy.
- 3:37Speaker 2: You come in, you come out.
- 3:38Speaker 1: There's hundreds of outlets interviewing him. But since I was
- 3:41Speaker 1: working at the Score at the time, I got my
- 3:42Speaker 1: three minutes. So I go in there, shake hands, pleasantries,
- 3:45Speaker 1: and rather than toss up softballs about the movie, I
- 3:47Speaker 1: went right in. I go, Mike could be a huge fan,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and let's start with this. The movie could have been better.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And he's like, okay, And I said, there's the role
- 3:54Speaker 1: of a sportscaster, who whomever it was? And he goes,
- 3:57Speaker 1: I auditioned for it, I didn't get it, and he's
- 3:59Speaker 1: a guy, go I would have been great, Like I'm
- 4:01Speaker 1: in Toronto the sports cast, Like how how the hell
- 4:03Speaker 1: did I not get the role? And I gotta be again.
- 4:05Speaker 1: The rest of me is great, You're a great Timberlake
- 4:07Speaker 1: is unbelievable. His character's name is Jacques Lacande. I go
- 4:10Speaker 1: for you really playing of every French stereotype, and I
- 4:13Speaker 1: really enjoyed Itim Jessica Alba fantastic who years later I
- 4:16Speaker 1: interviewed instead of file And I'll get to that story
- 4:18Speaker 1: in a second. And Mike Launch is right in the character.
- 4:20Speaker 1: He goes, Okay, what do we have here, oh guy
- 4:22Speaker 1: from the bidder burn? Well, well, well you're here to
- 4:25Speaker 1: complain with the factor we're in the movie. Okay, let's
- 4:27Speaker 1: you what else you got?
- 4:27Speaker 2: Then that's all there is.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I tripped, Timmy tripped right back. But he's a great
- 4:33Speaker 1: dude and the movie is awful. But okay, one thought
- 4:35Speaker 1: that you can go on the love Guru. This is
- 4:36Speaker 1: what happens, Jays. You know in Hollywood when you have currency, Hey,
- 4:39Speaker 1: you can do whatever you want. Bro, you made us
- 4:41Speaker 1: a ton of money with the Austin Powers franchise. You've
- 4:43Speaker 1: made so much money.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Who do you want?
- 4:45Speaker 1: What I really want to do is we were the
- 4:46Speaker 1: main p leae from the Stanley Cup. Mike, this is
- 4:48Speaker 1: America already gives a shit with the least. But that's
- 4:50Speaker 1: what I care about. Okay, fine, we'll let you play
- 4:52Speaker 1: like an Indian mystic and he becomes a guy who
- 4:54Speaker 1: heals at least whatever. That movie effectively derailed Mike Myers's career.
- 4:58Speaker 1: TA look up his IMDb. He has not made any
- 5:00Speaker 1: major film of consequence since That's how atrocious that movie
- 5:04Speaker 1: was received.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And you're telling me you like it. It effectively ruined
- 5:06Speaker 2: his career.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Uh yeah, well it's one of those things that just
- 5:10Speaker 3: I thought it was. Well, here's a couple of things.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I'm gonna take away from this whole thing. Okay, that
- 5:14Speaker 3: whole rant that you had, and we were almost out
- 5:16Speaker 3: of time folks here.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Talking about that's what we want to listen to.
- 5:19Speaker 3: I mean, you not getting the roles in more of
- 5:21Speaker 3: a you problem than Mike Myers problem. You probably just
- 5:24Speaker 3: weren't good enough one. But it's okay, it's okay. Jacques
- 5:28Speaker 3: lecoqe Grande was the only worst actor I've seen do
- 5:33Speaker 3: an impersonation of a guy from Canada. French Canada is
- 5:37Speaker 3: Keanu Reeves and young Blood. That's probably the only other
- 5:39Speaker 3: guy that's worse. But Young Goode is a great movie.
- 5:43Speaker 3: The fact that you said Jessica Alba is a good
- 5:45Speaker 3: actress is horrendous. She's Her best movie is Into the Blue.
- 5:51Speaker 3: The scene where she's swimming in the water. Great, when
- 5:56Speaker 3: she's underwater. That's the best thing she's done. Nothing nothing
- 5:59Speaker 3: against her. I think she's not a dark angel fan. No,
- 6:02Speaker 3: I think she's done. Listen, She's had a great career.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Do I think she's a great actress? Now? Not my
- 6:06Speaker 3: cup of tea, not my cup of tay. But you
- 6:07Speaker 3: did think chocolate cock Grande. That is you just that
- 6:12Speaker 3: is what you think of the people of French Canada. Canadia.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Let's get to the hockey, shall we. John Tavares out
- 6:17Speaker 1: week to week with a lower body injury, the man
- 6:20Speaker 1: who ruthlessly ripped the captaincy off his chestersro mind the world.
- 6:23Speaker 1: He's still among the league's elite goal scorers. Austin Matthews
- 6:26Speaker 1: entering Wednesday's action five goals is his current four game
- 6:29Speaker 1: goal street.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The Leafs sit comfortably in first place.
- 6:31Speaker 1: As I mentioned Jay, watching that game, it was interesting
- 6:33Speaker 1: because Austin Rena of the Gates scores. You know, Tampa
- 6:36Speaker 1: Bay showed a little bit of life. But I think
- 6:38Speaker 1: the Leafs have their number first the Atlantic right now.
- 6:41Speaker 1: They're four and ozer on Amazon Prime. They had this
- 6:44Speaker 1: three game losing streak and Willie Nielandard comes out and goes,
- 6:46Speaker 1: it's only a three game losing streak. And took a
- 6:48Speaker 1: little bit of heat there in Toronto, and I'm like,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and Jody Shelley loved it. He goes, yeah, that's exactly right.
- 6:52Speaker 1: It's only three game loser, Street, and we was played.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Hockey knows how hard this sport is. It's not a
- 6:56Speaker 1: big deal. Willie by the way, second league in goals
- 6:58Speaker 1: to twenty eight.
- 6:59Speaker 2: This Leaf's team. What do you make of this little
- 7:02Speaker 2: run they've on right now? If to losing three straight,
- 7:03Speaker 2: they win three straight.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean again, they're gonna make the playoffs. They're
- 7:08Speaker 3: gonna have guys that are gonna be good. Obviously. I'm like,
- 7:11Speaker 3: let's see in April when it's playoff time. That's my
- 7:14Speaker 3: big thing with them. It's the same with the Winnipeg Jets.
- 7:16Speaker 3: There's nothing against any guy in that team. I think
- 7:19Speaker 3: they all have great players. I think they've done a
- 7:20Speaker 3: great job adding pieces on the back end. Chris tannev
- 7:24Speaker 3: and Oliver Reckman Larson have done amazing things. They've revamped
- 7:27Speaker 3: that decoor and then they've the one thing that I'll
- 7:31Speaker 3: say is why I think I'm more bullish on them
- 7:35Speaker 3: this year than I have in past years, is they've
- 7:37Speaker 3: finally found a little semblance of consistency and nets and
- 7:42Speaker 3: that's the biggest thing they've been missing. They've always had.
- 7:44Speaker 3: You know, they pieced together this Frankenstein tandem at times
- 7:48Speaker 3: guys that just weren't playing and then getting injured, and
- 7:51Speaker 3: they now got Anthony Stillars, who is out but they
- 7:54Speaker 3: have you know, Joseph woollen Net who's fantastic. He's my
- 7:58Speaker 3: wonder Well he's been great.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Come on, oh yeah, Michell Network said to me, he goes, hey,
- 8:07Speaker 2: I like the pod. Just one thing.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Don't sing because I know you love Sinashura. I know
- 8:11Speaker 1: demerstings he can sing.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Shut up with the singing. Uh no.
- 8:14Speaker 3: But yeah, they have a good goalie tandem. And you
- 8:18Speaker 3: know Joseph Wolsden great. I mean, even Matt Murray's down
- 8:21Speaker 3: on the miners playing fantastic. And then you you know,
- 8:23Speaker 3: you go to the bench boss and Craig Berube has one.
- 8:26Speaker 3: He understands how to he seems to get how to
- 8:29Speaker 3: get the most out of these guys. And I honestly
- 8:32Speaker 3: think that Willie nielander his kind of attitude a little bit.
- 8:36Speaker 3: And I think I say that in the most positive
- 8:39Speaker 3: way possible. He does have an attitude, but I think
- 8:42Speaker 3: that's what makes him so good. And I think Berube
- 8:44Speaker 3: understands that and kind of likes when he is a
- 8:48Speaker 3: little bit cocky and and you could see it on
- 8:50Speaker 3: the bench when he wasn't playing early near He's like,
- 8:52Speaker 3: just put me on the ice, and Bruba is like
- 8:53Speaker 3: play better than do something, and then they kind of
- 8:55Speaker 3: they probably have this really cool, unique relationship. So I
- 8:59Speaker 3: think this is if there's a year, we say it
- 9:02Speaker 3: every year with the leafs and I'm I'll see and
- 9:04Speaker 3: I've been like waking up in April. But honestly, if
- 9:06Speaker 3: there's a year, it's this year, because you know, you
- 9:10Speaker 3: got everybody's getting a little bit older. You I'd probably
- 9:13Speaker 3: say that the experience that this team has got over
- 9:16Speaker 3: the past years, and the scars they've kind of gotten
- 9:19Speaker 3: and and cuts they've taken from all these losses and defeats,
- 9:23Speaker 3: I think is gonna finally give him a boost and
- 9:25Speaker 3: they're gonna at least make it out of the first round.
- 9:28Speaker 1: But I'm with you that the collective feelings wake me
- 9:30Speaker 1: up in April May whenever, whatever, you know, let's see
- 9:33Speaker 1: it because we've been burned so many times in the past,
- 9:35Speaker 1: which I think is totally fair. Turmoils running the Vancouver Canucks.
- 9:38Speaker 1: According to Elliott Frieman of Sports and Our Buddy Freeze,
- 9:41Speaker 1: there was talk that J. T. Miller might be held
- 9:42Speaker 1: out of Vancouver's three to two wins Saturday night against
- 9:45Speaker 1: the Edmonton Oilers as trade talks involving and progressed, reportedly
- 9:48Speaker 1: even at trading places in Miller to the Rangers, who
- 9:51Speaker 1: drafted him the first round the twenty eleven draft for
- 9:53Speaker 1: a package featuring Philip Heedo, Ryan Linggren and other assets
- 9:56Speaker 1: including a first round pick, didn't happen. We've talked with
- 9:59Speaker 1: this before, Jay, this is an alleged rift with Eleis Pederson,
- 10:02Speaker 1: j T.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Miller. Just one of these guys have to be traded
- 10:05Speaker 2: for things to get better.
- 10:07Speaker 3: No, I've we we went through this a couple episodes ago,
- 10:11Speaker 3: but you know, I'll echo it again that you have
- 10:13Speaker 3: to figure out a way to make it work. There's
- 10:15Speaker 3: no way that if you trade one of those guys
- 10:16Speaker 3: that are making the playoffs anyway and their borderline now
- 10:20Speaker 3: you know they've had They've got bigger fish to fry.
- 10:22Speaker 3: You know, goaltending has been tough. Demco can't stay healthy
- 10:25Speaker 3: and he has when he's back, he hasn't been good.
- 10:27Speaker 3: He has been up to snuff defensively, They've they're not
- 10:30Speaker 3: the same decoor. You know, Quinn Hughes is I saw
- 10:33Speaker 3: some stats that like when Quinn Hughes is not on
- 10:35Speaker 3: the ice, they are absolutely abysmal in every metric of
- 10:39Speaker 3: driving play and scoring chances for and scoring chances against.
- 10:43Speaker 3: It's just not pretty when he's not on the ice.
- 10:45Speaker 3: So he's really their only guy cooking. And then up front,
- 10:47Speaker 3: you know, Peterson's making eleven six a year and he
- 10:49Speaker 3: hasn't done much and he's you know, nothing against him
- 10:54Speaker 3: in terms of he's a good player, but he's just
- 10:55Speaker 3: not playing up to his his you know, the money
- 10:59Speaker 3: that he's making. So but do I think they trade JT.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Miller it all goes away? No, I think it would be.
- 11:04Speaker 3: I don't think they make the playoffs. So I heard
- 11:07Speaker 3: about that Nick's trade. And conversely, if I'm another team,
- 11:10Speaker 3: I'm doing what I can to get JT. Miller because, yeah, JT.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Miller is a little fiery. Yeah, he's probably a little
- 11:15Speaker 3: bit too hard on himself and on his teammates and
- 11:17Speaker 3: can be a distraction. But I think with the right
- 11:19Speaker 3: group of veterans and for a limited run of like
- 11:23Speaker 3: starting you know, at the trade deadline till playoffs, I
- 11:26Speaker 3: think he is an invaluable ad to any team and
- 11:30Speaker 3: is so he would just provide such a spark and
- 11:33Speaker 3: you know, you put him on the Rangers, and I'm
- 11:36Speaker 3: immediately going from these guys are borderline making the playoffs
- 11:39Speaker 3: to this is Cup contenders in my eyes, just because
- 11:42Speaker 3: he's he's so fiery and he plays in every you know,
- 11:45Speaker 3: he can play in every situation.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Speaking of a.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Little bit of rough stuff though, Connor McDavid and Tyler
- 11:50Speaker 1: Myers suspensions. McDavid gets games for crossing Connor Garland the
- 11:55Speaker 1: head Connor and Connor violence, second suspension of Jesus' career
- 11:59Speaker 1: following a two game ban February twenty nineteen. After the
- 12:02Speaker 1: legal hits the head of New York defenseman Nick Letty
- 12:05Speaker 1: Leon Dreysa.
- 12:06Speaker 2: The latter expressly he thought the punishment was too severe.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Certainly, I think three games is a little little too
- 12:13Speaker 4: much for either side. But yeah, I guess we don't
- 12:22Speaker 4: overly care about having our best players in the league
- 12:25Speaker 4: in the game, so.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I'll leave it at that.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Oilers even released a team statement that read, the Oilers
- 12:31Speaker 1: organizations disappointed and we shared our fans frustrations with the
- 12:35Speaker 1: three games suspension of our captain Connor mc david. Will
- 12:37Speaker 1: you support him through the process the organization our fans
- 12:39Speaker 1: report on them back the line of Brazil next week.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Three Gamer too much.
- 12:44Speaker 3: I mean Edmonton's statement they released is a little soft. No,
- 12:47Speaker 3: if you're gonna if you're gonna go at the league,
- 12:49Speaker 3: go at the league like come on, like you're.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Say this is outrageous or we're irate, will challenge this.
- 12:55Speaker 2: You disagree, we'll see back.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Fine. No, listen, whatever Myers got, he was getting. You
- 13:01Speaker 3: can't do one an the other. Again, I think that
- 13:03Speaker 3: play should have been whistled fifteen seconds before. So I
- 13:06Speaker 3: do think it's on the reffing now, the refing. It's
- 13:08Speaker 3: a fine line and it's kind of a playoff style game.
- 13:11Speaker 3: It's dying embers of the game. But the goalie's pulled.
- 13:14Speaker 3: They're wrestling on the ground doing you know, Greco Roman wrestling.
- 13:17Speaker 3: It's not even a hockey play. So I would have
- 13:19Speaker 3: whistled and gave both them a minor and this never happens,
- 13:21Speaker 3: so you know, I feel like that would have avoided everything.
- 13:26Speaker 3: But then once the cross check happens, you know, you
- 13:29Speaker 3: have to take repercussions. Now, I think it was probably
- 13:31Speaker 3: between one and three games. They went on the high
- 13:34Speaker 3: side three It could have been one, but then Myers
- 13:37Speaker 3: was just as bad behind and he I'm sure got
- 13:40Speaker 3: three as well before Connor got three. They probably waited
- 13:43Speaker 3: a little bit longer with Connor. But yeah, it's tough
- 13:46Speaker 3: when you take you know, you take out a guy
- 13:49Speaker 3: that's the face of the league and take him up
- 13:51Speaker 3: for three games. And we were going through a crazy
- 13:53Speaker 3: stat of like the amount of games, sorry, amount of
- 13:56Speaker 3: penalties that Connor McDavid has drawn since his past four
- 14:01Speaker 3: years is like way down, Like he's not drawing as
- 14:03Speaker 3: many penalty So that either means that he's just not
- 14:07Speaker 3: being as dominant as it was, which is not the case,
- 14:09Speaker 3: or refs are letting it go a little bit more
- 14:11Speaker 3: on him and kind of letting people have their way
- 14:13Speaker 3: and hooking and holding him and not protecting him as much.
- 14:16Speaker 3: So do I think that's the case. I don't know.
- 14:18Speaker 3: That's for the fans to look and take a piece.
- 14:20Speaker 3: We just pour a little gasoline on the fire and
- 14:23Speaker 3: let you let you people cook. But I just think
- 14:27Speaker 3: that was off sides by Connor. Listen, you're cross checking
- 14:30Speaker 3: a guy in the chin. It's still a dangerous play.
- 14:33Speaker 3: It's a stick. You're crossing him the face. I know
- 14:34Speaker 3: you're upset, you're pissed.
- 14:36Speaker 2: It is what it is.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Uh, he's gonna take the suspension. He'll be back, probably
- 14:40Speaker 3: four points in his first game back, and just give
- 14:42Speaker 3: the old fingy to everybody's fuck good and they're gonna yeah.
- 14:47Speaker 1: So how about the fact even Houston Texans running back
- 14:49Speaker 1: Joe Mixon mentioned the suspension, but.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Joe Joe Mix watches hockey.
- 14:54Speaker 2: We gonna try to get him on a lay Listen
- 14:56Speaker 2: on script Joey mis take me out to Dinna Texan's
- 15:02Speaker 2: tough loss against the Chiefs.
- 15:03Speaker 1: But Joel Dixon is still in a the scripted they
- 15:05Speaker 1: do stack especially can playoff time one more.
- 15:08Speaker 3: We're talking photo. Hang on, you're talking about the refs
- 15:10Speaker 3: in Kansas City. That's easy.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Now wait, this is the controver's talking about its favorable treatment.
- 15:15Speaker 3: So Rick Deck and Mahomes is a Mahomes is a
- 15:19Speaker 3: diver right now, it's just ask yeah, soccer's But again,
- 15:24Speaker 3: he's richer than us and he's a great athlete, so
- 15:26Speaker 3: you know I could say this and he can. I
- 15:28Speaker 3: can go suck it.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Listen.
- 15:29Speaker 1: As long as the Eagles win this weekend. I need
- 15:31Speaker 1: another Eagles super Bowl win. I've had one in my
- 15:33Speaker 1: lifetime and I lost it. We need one more Eagles win.
- 15:35Speaker 1: They're gonna beat the Commanders and then I'm hoping. Listen,
- 15:37Speaker 1: Bill's Maffia and the Eagles. Unbelievable, what a game that
- 15:40Speaker 1: would be.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Well, I'm more, I'm you know, I'm on the Cinderella
- 15:43Speaker 3: train with Commanders right now.
- 15:44Speaker 2: I just I have to be I know that's weak.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I need I need a poster of that face you
- 15:50Speaker 3: make when you go, oh yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 2: And I can't even hide my contempt. You can't. It's awful.
- 15:56Speaker 3: You live in contempt.
- 15:58Speaker 1: There are four win teams a year ago, and it's
- 16:00Speaker 1: a great story. And Jane Jalels is awesome. The fact
- 16:02Speaker 1: that you're pulling for the commander, like, that's that's Eagles.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Let's go against the Eagles fan base.
- 16:08Speaker 1: That's different. You're anti Phillies, That's what that's about. Me
- 16:11Speaker 1: and Jim Sarator one more for you. According to recent
- 16:15Speaker 1: reports online, GM, Kyle Dubas and the Penguins officially open
- 16:19Speaker 1: for business. So Tristan Jarry, who I don't know if
- 16:21Speaker 1: you said this on there or not, but I agree
- 16:22Speaker 1: with you, like he hasn't been good for a while,
- 16:24Speaker 1: so we could agree on that he's put on waivers.
- 16:26Speaker 1: But a report from Archie Sports Clams ever on the
- 16:28Speaker 1: team available except for said the Kid and Kenny Malcolm,
- 16:32Speaker 1: Brian Rust, Philip Thomasino and Owen Pickering, so two big names.
- 16:37Speaker 1: I would throw Rust in as well in a couple
- 16:38Speaker 1: of guys. I think Pickering, Yeah, traded land over a
- 16:41Speaker 1: month away. Penguins aren't going anywhere, and you know I
- 16:43Speaker 1: both know this. The worst place to be is kind
- 16:45Speaker 1: of one foot in, one foot out. Either you're going
- 16:47Speaker 1: for the playass, you're gunning for it, you real estate
- 16:48Speaker 1: think you can do it, or you just say no,
- 16:51Speaker 1: we're we're out like it's and we'll just punt on
- 16:52Speaker 1: some assets and and we'll reload. What do you think
- 16:55Speaker 1: the way it's gone for the Penguins. Dubis unfortunately has
- 16:57Speaker 1: not been able to make things work.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Oh, I mean I would fire Kyle Dubis off into
- 17:03Speaker 3: the sun if he does what I think he's gonna do.
- 17:05Speaker 3: Just man, anytime you have sid and I've heard a
- 17:09Speaker 3: ton of people say this, and unfortunately you know they
- 17:11Speaker 3: were first to it because you know we film on
- 17:13Speaker 3: Wednesdays and you know it is what it is. But
- 17:16Speaker 3: you know, anytime you have a healthy Crosby that's doing
- 17:18Speaker 3: the way and playing the way he's playing, for you
- 17:20Speaker 3: to even consider a goddamn rebuild is so stupid. Look
- 17:25Speaker 3: at what they do with Ovechkin. They Ovechkin was ademic
- 17:31Speaker 3: like two years ago and like the team. They were like,
- 17:33Speaker 3: he might not get the record and this and that,
- 17:35Speaker 3: and he has a good year, and management and ownership
- 17:37Speaker 3: comes out and backs Alexandrovechkin, they say, until the wheels
- 17:41Speaker 3: fall off of him and he is no longer the
- 17:44Speaker 3: Russian machine, we will continue to try to win a
- 17:46Speaker 3: cup and have a competitive team on the ice. That is,
- 17:51Speaker 3: that team was a hundred times worse and less had
- 17:55Speaker 3: less talent last year than this Penguins team does right now,
- 17:58Speaker 3: and they're talking about getting rid of it instead of
- 18:02Speaker 3: maybe finding a place, maybe finding some some guys to
- 18:04Speaker 3: bring in, because wasting Crosby his last year's in his
- 18:08Speaker 3: twilight years, even though he's still dominant, is just such
- 18:12Speaker 3: a spit in his face whatever you want to call it.
- 18:15Speaker 3: You're spatting, spitting, spitting in his face, kicking dirt in
- 18:19Speaker 3: his eyes, and you're you're just telling them, hey, you
- 18:21Speaker 3: know what it is, what it is, You're just gonna
- 18:24Speaker 3: play at the PPG arena for the rest of your
- 18:26Speaker 3: career and not even sniff a cup. So if I
- 18:28Speaker 3: was him, and I wonder if he has conversations with
- 18:32Speaker 3: Dubas uh. And I'm not a fan of Dubas because
- 18:35Speaker 3: I saw him after the Winter Classic. I was on
- 18:37Speaker 3: the plane going back. He was sitting, he was sitting right.
- 18:40Speaker 2: In front of me.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I just went, hey, Kyle, you know, getting meet and
- 18:44Speaker 3: Jason reseen, and he just goes, hi, yeah, And I
- 18:47Speaker 3: was like, oh, no, no, Kyle, don't do that to me. Kyle,
- 18:53Speaker 3: you know who I am. Probably does no, he probably,
- 18:57Speaker 3: he probably doesn't, even though I was like, come on, fella,
- 19:01Speaker 3: I was in analytics, Darling, which is his that's what
- 19:04Speaker 3: his thing.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yeah, he's all the analytics didn't work out in Toronto,
- 19:06Speaker 1: but Pittsburg is trying to make it work.
- 19:08Speaker 2: To your point, it's like managerial malpractice.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Like you've got Sid who's a generational player and he's
- 19:13Speaker 1: gonna play the last few years relative obscurity.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Like you just you can't rebuild when you have this guy, period.
- 19:18Speaker 3: No, you can't. You wouldn't do that with McDavid. You
- 19:20Speaker 3: wouldn't do that with McKinnon. I know they were younger,
- 19:22Speaker 3: but Crosby what he's doing. If you were looking at
- 19:24Speaker 3: his body of work this year and last year, he's
- 19:26Speaker 3: not slowing down. So why would you waste a year
- 19:30Speaker 3: and not try to win? Now, maybe you get a
- 19:32Speaker 3: first overall and it kind of turns your team around,
- 19:36Speaker 3: but because you have said you don't need to fully rebuild,
- 19:39Speaker 3: he's obviously such a cornerstone piece. But I just think
- 19:42Speaker 3: it's it's crazy to me, like the fact that they
- 19:45Speaker 3: wouldn't push to make up the playoffs this year and
- 19:47Speaker 3: keep trying to is is asin eind.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Even if they're squinting right now, like Tall the potential playoffs.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Spot, he's fucking magoo over there.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Time now for Jordan Martinook, who is having a terrific
- 20:01Speaker 1: season the Carolina Hurricanes, you'll want to listen to the
- 20:03Speaker 1: story that chemistry has with JD as former players. Plus
- 20:06Speaker 1: what kind of an animal would order just vanilla ice
- 20:09Speaker 1: cream at a dinner?
- 20:10Speaker 2: You'll find out next Well, Jason de Burs and this
- 20:24Speaker 2: guy go way back.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Jordan Martin Hook the Carolina Hurricanes joining us right now,
- 20:27Speaker 1: and uh, I'm gonna let JD take over the second here,
- 20:29Speaker 1: but Jordan joining us along with his lovely son chase,
- 20:32Speaker 1: which is a classic move here.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Just bring the sun on.
- 20:34Speaker 1: So now we definitely can't ask anything hard hitting, nothing incriminating.
- 20:37Speaker 1: But I'll tell you one thing Jason told me some intel, Jordan,
- 20:39Speaker 1: which is I have to start with this. You think
- 20:41Speaker 1: I started with some hockey, maybe Marty Natchius, maybe rober
- 20:43Speaker 1: Brenda Martin. No, JD tells you the biggest Nickelback fan alive.
- 20:47Speaker 1: What is it with you and Chad Kroger.
- 20:50Speaker 5: Well, I'll burt a band, uh just had some had
- 20:54Speaker 5: some very good times at a couple of other concerts,
- 20:57Speaker 5: and yeah, it's the band I grew up on. So
- 20:59Speaker 5: when I was a kid, that's all we listened to
- 21:02Speaker 5: out in the prairie. So uh yeah, uh yeah, big
- 21:08Speaker 5: Nickelbacks fan, that's for sure.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Can you can you growl through a lyric or two?
- 21:11Speaker 2: This is how you remind me?
- 21:12Speaker 3: Oh, I mean, he's karaokeated enough. You get you've you've
- 21:15Speaker 3: ran into him once and hung out with him a
- 21:17Speaker 3: little bit, and and he's it. He's a big hockey
- 21:20Speaker 3: fan Nickelback. I mean the whole band, not to just
- 21:22Speaker 3: Chack Kroger, but the whole band is big hockey fans.
- 21:25Speaker 5: No, yeah, wan, I got to sing with them, So
- 21:27Speaker 5: that's uh, that's a that's the highlight of my professional career.
- 21:31Speaker 6: That's for sure.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Okay, more details on this. Where was it? How many
- 21:34Speaker 2: people hundred thousand while Jordan Martinook sings?
- 21:37Speaker 6: No, Well, I was in Raleigh.
- 21:38Speaker 5: That was that last last year, right at the start
- 21:42Speaker 5: of the season, right before training cap and it was
- 21:45Speaker 5: at like the outdoor music venue here and I think
- 21:47Speaker 5: there's about twenty thousand people. So, uh, sang Box Star
- 21:51Speaker 5: with them, and yeah, it was cool. It was Uh,
- 21:55Speaker 5: it was unbelievable, that's for sure.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Nice.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Was Chase in attendance? Did you see did you get
- 22:00Speaker 3: to see Dad sing?
- 22:01Speaker 6: Chase was not there, but he's seen the video many times.
- 22:04Speaker 3: How was Dad was?
- 22:05Speaker 6: He? Was?
- 22:05Speaker 3: He singing pretty good?
- 22:08Speaker 6: It was on key?
- 22:09Speaker 3: All right, that's good. You mentioned Raleigh, buddy, and you
- 22:12Speaker 3: know I was with you. I had the pleasure of
- 22:13Speaker 3: playing with you in in Arizona when you were a
- 22:16Speaker 3: young pup and now you're a season vet, established yourself
- 22:20Speaker 3: and everything. How's it been in Raleigh and and you
- 22:23Speaker 3: know living in that just kind of great family, family atmosphere.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Well, yeah, obviously we spent our time together in Arizona
- 22:31Speaker 5: and had no kids, and we were having fun and
- 22:36Speaker 5: got to go out a little more. And now the
- 22:38Speaker 5: season of life has definitely changed. So we are got
- 22:42Speaker 5: two kids in school. We are not going out. We
- 22:47Speaker 5: maybe get an odd dinner here or there, but our
- 22:49Speaker 5: lives kind of revolve around.
- 22:52Speaker 6: Him and his sister.
- 22:53Speaker 5: And it's six thirty AM practices on Saturday mornings and
- 22:58Speaker 5: Ninja Dragon games on Saturday Sunday afternoons. And there's been
- 23:03Speaker 5: a big week in Raleig because we've had snow for
- 23:07Speaker 5: the first time I think in three years, so there's
- 23:11Speaker 5: been school canceled. It was beautiful sunny day out today,
- 23:14Speaker 5: but I guess the roads are too icy, so they
- 23:16Speaker 5: have another snow day tomorrow. But he's pretty happy to
- 23:19Speaker 5: geus to stay home again.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Well, talking about truancy and snow days and things that
- 23:24Speaker 3: are offsides. I have a question for you. It's about
- 23:27Speaker 3: statute of limitations. I was supposed to be on You
- 23:31Speaker 3: came on NHL Network a couple months ago and they
- 23:34Speaker 3: asked me, and I was so mad. I wasn't in
- 23:36Speaker 3: studio because I wanted to bring this story up. And
- 23:37Speaker 3: I've been holding on to the story. So, I when
- 23:40Speaker 3: Marty left Arizona during the you know, and then COVID happened,
- 23:44Speaker 3: I was renting his house. So I lived in his
- 23:46Speaker 3: house for probably a year year and a half, and
- 23:49Speaker 3: one of the most remarkable tenants anybody could ask for.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Kept it absolutely dialed in everything. So when I'm leaving
- 23:57Speaker 3: the house, I'm I clean up the place because he
- 24:00Speaker 3: was going to sell it, so I was getting it ready,
- 24:01Speaker 3: me and my wife just just it's absolutely immaculate. I'm
- 24:04Speaker 3: pretty sure he made a hell of a return on it.
- 24:08Speaker 3: But as I'm leaving, I'm like, oh, there's some some
- 24:10Speaker 3: stuff left over. I'm like, do you want me to
- 24:11Speaker 3: like send you anything? No, I don't get anything. It's
- 24:13Speaker 3: all good, So I'm okay. So he had a dice
- 24:15Speaker 3: in vacuum there, so I grab and he knows what
- 24:18Speaker 3: I'm going on. So I grabbed this dice in vacuum,
- 24:20Speaker 3: take it with me. Don't hear anything for like two years, okay,
- 24:25Speaker 3: and then two years and I get two years, I
- 24:29Speaker 3: got a text. All I get is hey, uh, me
- 24:33Speaker 3: and quarter looking for that his wife. We're looking for
- 24:35Speaker 3: that dice in vacuum. And I was like, yeah, I've
- 24:38Speaker 3: had it, and he's and he's like, well, it's an
- 24:40Speaker 3: expensive vacuum. He's like, can you send me some cash
- 24:43Speaker 3: for it? And I was like, what are you kidding me?
- 24:47Speaker 3: So I still send him the money, but I've been
- 24:49Speaker 3: holding on to that, and I said, what are the
- 24:51Speaker 3: statute of limitations if you leave something in the house
- 24:53Speaker 3: that you're selling.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Well, first off, first off, we got all because it
- 24:57Speaker 5: was my furniture in the house that he was renting,
- 25:00Speaker 5: so all my stuff was in there. And when we
- 25:03Speaker 5: sold it, we got all all the stuff moved into
- 25:05Speaker 5: a storage unit.
- 25:07Speaker 6: I thought we got.
- 25:08Speaker 5: All the stuff moved into unit, but there's a couple
- 25:12Speaker 5: of things that didn't make it in that storage unit,
- 25:14Speaker 5: including my dice in vacuum. So we get to our
- 25:18Speaker 5: our stuff gets delivered to our house in Raleigh and
- 25:21Speaker 5: we don't have a vacuum, and I was and of
- 25:23Speaker 5: course like, oh I remember having that big, beautiful dice
- 25:26Speaker 5: in in in Arizona. So she's like, do you mind
- 25:29Speaker 5: texting JD. So this is more on court than it
- 25:32Speaker 5: was on me. I said, let's just get a new vacuum.
- 25:34Speaker 1: But then.
- 25:36Speaker 2: If it's on the life right, then Jay that's what's understandable.
- 25:40Speaker 2: He's just chiming in.
- 25:42Speaker 6: He's in the background.
- 25:44Speaker 3: I sent the money. I sent the money. Can we
- 25:47Speaker 3: ask how much shity? It was overvalued? You know, typically
- 25:51Speaker 3: you buy furniture stuff, and I looked on Amazon. It
- 25:54Speaker 3: was overvalued a bit. But listen, I knew I caused
- 25:57Speaker 3: some damage. It's about three hundred.
- 26:00Speaker 6: Yeah, listen too. But I didn't ask about those.
- 26:04Speaker 3: What else did I take?
- 26:06Speaker 6: No, I don't know.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Well, I took some of the I took some of
- 26:09Speaker 3: the booze. Yeah, I took some of the booze. I
- 26:11Speaker 3: think that you left it was it was low quality wine.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Yeah, so that was the vacuum story. I knew you
- 26:15Speaker 6: were going to bring that up.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I have been holding on that and the goddamn thing
- 26:19Speaker 3: doesn't work either, he said, junk.
- 26:22Speaker 6: Well, maybe I'll bend mill you a couple hunter back.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I'll take fifty back.
- 26:28Speaker 1: In the interest of asking one question about the hurricanes,
- 26:31Speaker 1: where we will dive back in more topics and petty
- 26:33Speaker 1: grievances that JD wants to have with you.
- 26:34Speaker 2: I didn't want to ask him about Rod Brendan Moore Jordan.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I loved him as a player, obviously when he was
- 26:39Speaker 1: with the Flyers, the Blues, and now as a coach,
- 26:41Speaker 1: he's been so successful five hundred wins.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Now, to me, when I look at Brendan Wore, I'm like,
- 26:45Speaker 2: you know, it's very I.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Always think of like him being an athletic trainer, like
- 26:48Speaker 1: if he was a trainer, that I have to listen
- 26:50Speaker 1: to what he says, because clearly he practices what he preaches.
- 26:52Speaker 1: So if he's telling me about conditioning, I'm like, well,
- 26:54Speaker 1: clearly he's in the best conditioning. What can you tell
- 26:56Speaker 1: me about Brandon war that the average fan doesn't realize.
- 27:00Speaker 6: Well, you're you're well on the right topic.
- 27:02Speaker 5: There's in before practice, after practice. He does our all
- 27:07Speaker 5: our fitness testing every year, which is pretty crazy. I
- 27:10Speaker 5: think the older he's getting all the heart of that
- 27:12Speaker 5: bike test is getting on him.
- 27:14Speaker 6: But I just think he's he's an unbelievable motivator.
- 27:19Speaker 5: I don't like the NHL's posted a ton of his
- 27:23Speaker 5: speeches throughout the lot, throughout his time coaching, and especially
- 27:28Speaker 5: in the playoffs when obviously the light has shined a
- 27:31Speaker 5: little brighter on the team. He he can he can
- 27:35Speaker 5: really get you going and before the game. It's I
- 27:40Speaker 5: think it's a it's some coaches haven't. Some coaches don't.
- 27:43Speaker 5: He definitely has it to be able to to be
- 27:46Speaker 5: able to get the team ready to go and a
- 27:50Speaker 5: lot of preparation. And it's not just him, it's our
- 27:52Speaker 5: entire coaching staff. They do they do, Uh, they do
- 27:55Speaker 5: a great job getting us ready. But definitely the motivation
- 27:58Speaker 5: factor that he brings is big.
- 28:01Speaker 1: And by the way, Gordy House still played the game
- 28:03Speaker 1: at fifty Rod Brendanwre's fifty four.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Could he play an a game, Oh.
- 28:08Speaker 6: I think you could probably get a couple of fourth
- 28:10Speaker 6: line shifts in there. He'd be.
- 28:14Speaker 5: Well, they have the alumbn guy alumni game here the
- 28:16Speaker 5: other night for Rik Stall's jersey retirement.
- 28:18Speaker 6: He still looked pretty good.
- 28:19Speaker 3: What did it was his stat line when you have
- 28:21Speaker 3: one in one or something, He looked like he drove
- 28:23Speaker 3: the net on one and made a sick move.
- 28:25Speaker 5: Yeah, he had a goal and then uh he was
- 28:27Speaker 5: out there for the game winner against though, So I'm like,
- 28:32Speaker 5: for me up there, former winner.
- 28:37Speaker 6: On his best defense.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Well, you talk about, you know, Rod being a motivator,
- 28:41Speaker 3: but you do a lot of that too, and you
- 28:43Speaker 3: know it went as far back as with me, and
- 28:46Speaker 3: you know you you're kind of have the iconic mista
- 28:49Speaker 3: sketch nick Off And how did that you know kind
- 28:53Speaker 3: of when did you start that?
- 28:55Speaker 2: And what? You know?
- 28:56Speaker 6: What did that was in Arizona? I started that in Arizona.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, exactly, I know, I know the answers. I
- 29:02Speaker 3: got to ask you the question though, it's the fancy.
- 29:04Speaker 5: Yeah, the well, you remember Sweet Lou, the parking attendant.
- 29:08Speaker 5: So when I would drive with Connor Murphy and Toby Reader,
- 29:11Speaker 5: I would always sit in the back and it would
- 29:13Speaker 5: be Connor driving in Toby and Sweet Lou would always.
- 29:16Speaker 6: Go, oh, mister Connor, I'm mister Toby.
- 29:20Speaker 5: I like, I don't know how itered into me doing it.
- 29:24Speaker 5: I would do it to Toby Reader and I go, ah,
- 29:27Speaker 5: mister Toby. And then when I came to Carolina's Fetch
- 29:32Speaker 5: was eighteen years old.
- 29:33Speaker 6: He was like nervous.
- 29:35Speaker 5: He didn't speak a ton of English, and I ended
- 29:38Speaker 5: up being on his line the first game. And I
- 29:41Speaker 5: don't know, for your first game, you're always a little nervous.
- 29:44Speaker 5: So I just did that out of nowhere, and I
- 29:48Speaker 5: don't know what kind of stuck is it?
- 29:50Speaker 3: From like a place in nerves or is it really
- 29:53Speaker 3: just something that you know it gets you hyped up
- 29:55Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 29:56Speaker 6: Yeah, well, I I like yelling, I like being well
- 30:01Speaker 6: you probably are going to say I like being at
- 30:03Speaker 6: the center of it.
- 30:04Speaker 5: So it hard to be at the center of it
- 30:08Speaker 5: in Arizona because I had so many guys like you
- 30:11Speaker 5: and Ritchie and nots.
- 30:13Speaker 6: I was more of the punching bag there than the
- 30:17Speaker 6: the show off my personality.
- 30:19Speaker 2: They were me and you.
- 30:20Speaker 3: I was never I always brought you back, but they were.
- 30:24Speaker 3: They'd get on him a little bit. Kevin Cannatt and
- 30:26Speaker 3: Bradley Richardson together are are are tough. I mean, one
- 30:31Speaker 3: guy that you probably all want to win for is
- 30:35Speaker 3: not only Stallzy, but you know Brent Burns, who's been
- 30:38Speaker 3: around for so long, and I mean a lot of
- 30:41Speaker 3: people have heard stories about him, and I haven't been
- 30:43Speaker 3: played with him in a while, but you know, I
- 30:45Speaker 3: have my stories of him of like, you know, him
- 30:47Speaker 3: getting bit by a cheetah and then getting a tattoo
- 30:49Speaker 3: of it, But like, has anything happened just in terms
- 30:52Speaker 3: of like his preparation and how wild he is because
- 30:55Speaker 3: he does some some stuff that's just so zany and
- 30:59Speaker 3: out there and anything you've seen or that he's added
- 31:01Speaker 3: that I haven't seen when I played with him, Well,
- 31:04Speaker 3: I I.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Don't know if he was doing the like was he
- 31:06Speaker 5: doing the coffee you were with him? Like, No, he's
- 31:10Speaker 5: got like his blender that he blends his coffee and
- 31:13Speaker 5: brings all his coffee and his beans and all that,
- 31:15Speaker 5: like that's in one of his He's got like six
- 31:18Speaker 5: suitcases for a one game trip like he take. He
- 31:22Speaker 5: takes care of himself obviously to be able to play
- 31:25Speaker 5: this long, you got you got to take care of yourself.
- 31:27Speaker 5: But he's got every machine known to man on him
- 31:31Speaker 5: at all times.
- 31:31Speaker 6: And yeah, he's he's each.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Thirty five ounces of steak, usually the night before a game.
- 31:40Speaker 5: And yeah, he's he's one of a kind. And like
- 31:44Speaker 5: you said, that's probably the number one guy that what
- 31:46Speaker 5: we want to win for and he's been around for
- 31:49Speaker 5: so long and it's never won one.
- 31:51Speaker 6: So yeah, he's he's the Cheatah story is.
- 31:56Speaker 5: Incredible though, and I love that you were on his
- 31:58Speaker 5: team when that happened.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Oh yeah, he went to a zoo to go get
- 32:02Speaker 3: like a private tour. I can't remember where what zoo
- 32:05Speaker 3: and then he went into the cheat exhibit and they said, hey,
- 32:09Speaker 3: just you know, be careful, you know, don't you know,
- 32:12Speaker 3: get too ornery around the cheetah. And he did and
- 32:16Speaker 3: moved a little too quick. The cheetah took a piece
- 32:18Speaker 3: out of him, right out of his ribs. And he
- 32:20Speaker 3: came into the ring the next day with tal happy.
- 32:22Speaker 3: He's I got a bit by a cheetah. He's like,
- 32:24Speaker 3: it's actually pretty bad ass. I'm gonna get a tattoo.
- 32:26Speaker 3: But he's got a tattoo in his ribs of it.
- 32:28Speaker 3: And it's like that's just the stuff he did. I mean,
- 32:31Speaker 3: he had his own owlery when he was in Minnesota
- 32:34Speaker 3: and all sorts of things like that. But you know,
- 32:37Speaker 3: switching gears a bit, and you guys are coming down
- 32:40Speaker 3: that stretch for coming into Four Nations and then the
- 32:43Speaker 3: Break and everything, and we talk about Guys. We talked
- 32:46Speaker 3: about the last episode of Guys going on Break where
- 32:48Speaker 3: they go and obviously we had some great times. And
- 32:52Speaker 3: I told you I was bringing this story of up
- 32:54Speaker 3: of us going to Cabo for probably one of the
- 32:56Speaker 3: most legendary trips that was highlighted by a picture with
- 33:00Speaker 3: you and Kyle Busch that I wish I still had,
- 33:03Speaker 3: but we got a restraining order on us by Kyle
- 33:07Speaker 3: Busch because we were annoying him. It was on me,
- 33:12Speaker 3: it was but listen, we're all in it together. We're
- 33:15Speaker 3: we're you know, we're we're.
- 33:17Speaker 6: Oh, you guys are hagging me on too. That was
- 33:19Speaker 6: the worst part.
- 33:21Speaker 5: We had a few tequilas on the golf course and
- 33:23Speaker 5: then came back and I'm not a huge NASCAR fan,
- 33:26Speaker 5: but a fairly big NASCAR fan, and I was like, Oh,
- 33:29Speaker 5: I recognize that guy, and then I put one and
- 33:32Speaker 5: two together and it was Kyle Busch. So then I
- 33:35Speaker 5: went over and tried to speak out my ass that
- 33:38Speaker 5: I knew everything about NASCAR and.
- 33:42Speaker 6: Just wouldn't let him go. He's there with his wife and.
- 33:44Speaker 5: His kids, and he just wanted to have a good
- 33:46Speaker 5: time with his family, and we're belligerently bullying him about NASCAR.
- 33:50Speaker 3: And maybe body part of it.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Well, are you a pro athlete?
- 33:58Speaker 6: Our NASCAR drivers athletes, So I better be careful.
- 34:01Speaker 5: I'm I'm supposed to go to a race and one
- 34:03Speaker 5: of the guys is hooking me up, so I very
- 34:05Speaker 5: be careful saying that.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Literally, there's one other guy on our trip. I can't
- 34:10Speaker 3: mention his name because the story's too good, but we
- 34:13Speaker 3: literally ended up going to dinner that night in Mexico
- 34:16Speaker 3: and Cabo and he only ordered ice cream for dinner.
- 34:21Speaker 2: That's unbelievable. This guy only wants ice cream.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Well, it was.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:25Speaker 3: We were like, what are you ordering? At like a
- 34:27Speaker 3: high in restaurant.
- 34:27Speaker 5: We're at a table of like sixteen people, and it
- 34:30Speaker 5: goes around. Everybody orders, like we're at a Mexican restaurant, fajidas, caesadillas.
- 34:35Speaker 5: Everybody's going around, people are ordering Appy's drinks, and he
- 34:39Speaker 5: just goes, I'll get vanilla ice cream.
- 34:41Speaker 6: And everybody's like, oh, okay.
- 34:42Speaker 5: We're we're gonna order, We're gonna order our meals and
- 34:46Speaker 5: then we'll order dessert.
- 34:47Speaker 6: And he goes, I'm just gonna have ice cream tonight.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Kyle just an ice cream guy. Okay, No, it wasn't.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Kyle wasn't.
- 34:53Speaker 2: It wasn't guy. Now, Kyle wasn't with us.
- 34:55Speaker 3: Kyle wanted no part of us.
- 34:57Speaker 6: Kyle was done with us at the pool.
- 35:01Speaker 2: It's awesome. I' Jordan Martin Hook.
- 35:03Speaker 1: Obviously you appreciate the stories and obviously the laship you
- 35:05Speaker 1: have here with JD. We're pulling for you, man. This
- 35:07Speaker 1: is great stuff and the best year in the family always. Yeah,
- 35:10Speaker 1: thanks guys, all right time after a little cinephile in sixties.
- 35:21Speaker 1: So Paris Sonenfeld one of my favorites. He's got a
- 35:23Speaker 1: new book outs called Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time.
- 35:27Speaker 1: He is the director of the Men in Black trilogy,
- 35:29Speaker 1: Adams Family one and two.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Get Shorty.
- 35:31Speaker 1: He was the first cinematographer for the Cone Brothers, so
- 35:34Speaker 1: he shot Barton Fink. He also shot Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing.
- 35:38Speaker 1: He's great, obviously, I've ever very time, blood simple now
- 35:41Speaker 1: his TV that lives in Canada, all other stuff. Anyways,
- 35:44Speaker 1: his first book was amazing, was called Barry Sonfeld Call
- 35:46Speaker 1: your Mother.
- 35:47Speaker 2: He talks to me.
- 35:48Speaker 1: He is the worst parents ever, Like he just despised
- 35:50Speaker 1: his parents. You know, when they die, people like I'm
- 35:52Speaker 1: so sorry. He's like, I'm not like because they are
- 35:54Speaker 1: nice people, but they're horrific parents. And he's a very neuroic,
- 35:56Speaker 1: funny filmmaker. So I had him previously on cent of
- 35:58Speaker 1: five years ago. It's a great interview. People to want
- 36:00Speaker 1: to look it up. It's well, we'll seeing people still
- 36:02Speaker 1: talk about to be like, Oh my god, so On
- 36:03Speaker 1: felt so fun.
- 36:04Speaker 2: So his new book. I couldn't wait to read it.
- 36:06Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I want to tell you a couple of stories, specifically,
- 36:09Speaker 1: one of which have you seen the film Get Shorty?
- 36:11Speaker 2: Because I love it. I think it's a great.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Get Shorty and be Cool.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yes, speak exactly right though was a fault. Yeah.
- 36:17Speaker 1: So John Gibolta plays Chilli Palmer, of course, his adaptation
- 36:19Speaker 1: to Elmore Leonard novel Gene Hackman, Delroy lind To, etcetera.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Trilli inside inside Hollywood movie satiric. So Hackman, he said,
- 36:27Speaker 1: on one of the first days they're shooting, Travolta is
- 36:29Speaker 1: late coming out of the set, and he goes, Jeane's
- 36:31Speaker 1: the kind of guy that comes there like he is
- 36:33Speaker 1: ready to rock. He's got his He's got not only
- 36:35Speaker 1: his dialgue memorize or everyone else's dialg memorized. He's like
- 36:37Speaker 1: he's a total pro. He goes, but you can just
- 36:39Speaker 1: feel an anger, like he's not taking any bs. And
- 36:41Speaker 1: Travolta shows up a little late and clearly does not
- 36:44Speaker 1: have his lines memorized, and he goes, Travolta, I've never
- 36:46Speaker 1: been anybody who loved being a movie star more than
- 36:48Speaker 1: John Travolta. He goes like, he's just he's all about
- 36:51Speaker 1: that life. He goes, now, doesn't mean he's a bad guy.
- 36:53Speaker 1: He's very charming. He's a nice guy, but he's not
- 36:55Speaker 1: prepared and he kind of fumbles his way through, and
- 36:57Speaker 1: you know, we kind of get through it.
- 36:58Speaker 2: So he said, Hackman's getting more and more pissed as
- 37:00Speaker 2: we're doing take It and takeing. Chavrolta can't do it.
- 37:02Speaker 1: And at one point Barry's wife comes or he always
- 37:05Speaker 1: calls Sweetie, very endearing, and she comes over and she's
- 37:07Speaker 1: in sweet He says to him, like, how good is
- 37:09Speaker 1: Gene Hackley.
- 37:09Speaker 2: He's going, I love Genacking. This guy's on blieve He's
- 37:11Speaker 2: so great. He's like, it's like okay. They go back
- 37:13Speaker 2: to to take and Hackman goes, are you fucking kidding me?
- 37:17Speaker 2: And Barry's like what.
- 37:17Speaker 1: He goes, you're gonna take advice from your wife? Like
- 37:20Speaker 1: you're the worst fucking director I've ever seen in my life. Seething,
- 37:24Speaker 1: Barry turns the ad and goes.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Hey, when's lunch. He's like the three hours away? Maybe
- 37:30Speaker 2: two always like we're doing lunch. We're calling lunch guys.
- 37:32Speaker 2: That's it. That's a wrap. They're like, okay, he goes
- 37:34Speaker 2: Gene I talked to. He's like, he goes Lean's in.
- 37:36Speaker 1: He goes, hey, man, I get it, like you're mad
- 37:38Speaker 1: at John because he's not a pro like you. But
- 37:41Speaker 1: he doesn't mean he get to to mean my wife
- 37:43Speaker 1: for the rest of this shoot. If you want to
- 37:45Speaker 1: yell at me and take it on me, I'm totally
- 37:47Speaker 1: fine with that because I totally get it, but that's
- 37:49Speaker 1: not fair to criticize her.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Hacken goes meet me my trailer in ten minutes.
- 37:53Speaker 1: He's like, right, very good to sit in there, and
- 37:55Speaker 1: he's like, listen, I was out of line, you know,
- 37:58Speaker 1: because this job. He's like, I'm a real man's man,
- 38:00Speaker 1: Like I'm just like a really masculine guy and I'm
- 38:02Speaker 1: here and I can hate myself and I you know,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I wear makeup for living.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I played dress up.
- 38:06Speaker 1: And he's like, that's really at odds with who I
- 38:07Speaker 1: am as a person, but this is the life that
- 38:10Speaker 1: I've chosen. So like, I'm always've always a lot of anger,
- 38:11Speaker 1: you might have a lot of contempt.
- 38:12Speaker 2: And Berry's like, okay, man I got like he's just
- 38:14Speaker 2: listening to his therapy excess whatever exactly.
- 38:16Speaker 3: That's the that's the softest guy excuse for being made.
- 38:20Speaker 3: He's probably a little bit he's anyway.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Eventually they get through it later on in the shooting
- 38:26Speaker 1: and the problem is consistently going, but they're just getting
- 38:29Speaker 1: through it.
- 38:29Speaker 2: Eventually. There's a really important scene that he's gotta have
- 38:32Speaker 2: Trolta set.
- 38:32Speaker 1: So Barry tells Travolta because hey, John, because I'm giving
- 38:36Speaker 1: you three days Friday, Saturday, Sunday, you gotta memorize this
- 38:38Speaker 1: small like you gotta nail it. Okay, we're doing it
- 38:40Speaker 1: Monday early. It's a lot of work, but you're gonna
- 38:42Speaker 1: have to bring it okay. And John's like, yep, He's like,
- 38:43Speaker 1: clear your schedule. It's like, you got it.
- 38:46Speaker 2: He's like sure enough.
- 38:47Speaker 1: He's like over the weekend is when he found out
- 38:50Speaker 1: rape was the day ut that he got nominated for
- 38:51Speaker 1: for Pulp Fiction.
- 38:52Speaker 2: You got nominated for Best Actor Oscars. Travolta's back.
- 38:55Speaker 1: So he goes that day sure enough. You know, he's
- 38:57Speaker 1: literally asking about what tuxedo should I wear? What do
- 38:58Speaker 1: you think of this outfit?
- 38:59Speaker 2: Whatever?
- 39:00Speaker 1: He's not focused, and when it's time to shoot the scene,
- 39:02Speaker 1: the guys, he's not coming.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Out of his trailer and he said, what's the issues?
- 39:05Speaker 2: Like he doesn't he doesn't feel well. He's sick.
- 39:08Speaker 1: And again, song Fu can feel Hackman glaring at you,
- 39:11Speaker 1: because I'll take He goes to John and John's Berry's like,
- 39:13Speaker 1: I just don't feel well.
- 39:14Speaker 2: I can't do it. He's like, I know he said
- 39:15Speaker 2: this in the days, like I just like I don't
- 39:16Speaker 2: feel well. And he's like, John, we have to do it.
- 39:19Speaker 2: I told you. This is the scene. Like I can't.
- 39:20Speaker 2: We're already of our budgets. This is how it goes.
- 39:22Speaker 2: He's like, no, I just can't do it.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And he's like, okay, you know what we can do
- 39:25Speaker 1: is maybe we'll do some Q cards. I should travel
- 39:27Speaker 1: to like kind of a movie snaps to attention. He's like, really,
- 39:29Speaker 1: like if we have Q cards, like I might be
- 39:31Speaker 1: able to get through it. He's like okay, So he's
- 39:33Speaker 1: like we get Q cards made up, and Hackman is
- 39:35Speaker 1: beyond furious now, like just justiss.
- 39:38Speaker 2: He's screaming at Barry Sonefeld you ship director. This is
- 39:41Speaker 2: like he's just killing Berry because he's furious with Travolta. Anyways,
- 39:46Speaker 2: they get through it. The movie is out.
- 39:48Speaker 1: If they're at the premiere and he feels berry Sonfeld
- 39:51Speaker 1: feels a tap in the short's aut Geen Hackman and
- 39:53Speaker 1: they have not talked very much ever since. The We
- 39:55Speaker 1: rap like that's once it was over. I see like
- 39:56Speaker 1: he knows Gene hates everyone and hates him, and he goes,
- 39:59Speaker 1: just be clear, I'm only here to support a couple
- 40:01Speaker 1: of friends in the movie. I don't care for you,
- 40:03Speaker 1: and I don't think that's a very good movie, but whatever,
- 40:04Speaker 1: and he's like, yeah.
- 40:05Speaker 2: No problem, Gene, I got it. Movie plays afterwards, excellent reviews,
- 40:09Speaker 2: rapturous reception.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Gene goes up to me and he goes, it's really good.
- 40:13Speaker 1: And he goes and he's really good and he's like yeah.
- 40:15Speaker 1: He goes Tramultez writing the movie. He's like, you know,
- 40:17Speaker 1: because I was I was wrong about you. And he's like,
- 40:19Speaker 1: it's okay, you don't need apology, goes, I'm not gonna apologize.
- 40:21Speaker 1: He's like, always gonna tell you is I thought you
- 40:23Speaker 1: were a fucking idiot and you're not.
- 40:27Speaker 2: That is Gene. Actman, ladies and gentleman.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Yes, that is in Cinephile in ninety seconds and what
- 40:34Speaker 3: a review. That's actually unbelievable.
- 40:36Speaker 1: But to your point, what's with these actors? Do they
- 40:38Speaker 1: think they're tough guys? Like you're playing make believe for
- 40:39Speaker 1: a living, you're not.
- 40:40Speaker 2: A tough guy.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Well, most of them are Thespians. That's the thing is you.
- 40:45Speaker 3: They're the drama kids that got let out early so
- 40:47Speaker 3: they didn't get beat up. It's in high school. Not
- 40:50Speaker 3: not all of them. There's some that are legitimate and
- 40:53Speaker 3: you know, like anything. But I'm not gonna sit here
- 40:56Speaker 3: and say that. You know a lot of these guys, Yeah,
- 40:59Speaker 3: it's it's make believe they play. They're great actors. But
- 41:03Speaker 3: come on, come on, get over yourself, come on, take now.
- 41:08Speaker 2: You're gonna take me to task. Now because you saw Wicked.
- 41:11Speaker 3: I'm gonna give you my take on what you think.
- 41:13Speaker 3: You were very a scathing.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Review of it. It was dismissive.
- 41:17Speaker 3: But go ahead, yeah listen, I don't I'm talking. And
- 41:21Speaker 3: somebody's ears are burning over there. My wife and me
- 41:24Speaker 3: watched it and she is of the musical theater agent
- 41:27Speaker 3: has performed on Broadway and not by do not no, no,
- 41:33Speaker 3: not to say that it doesn't like it, but her
- 41:35Speaker 3: take on you was the fact that you she listened
- 41:37Speaker 3: to the episode and she sent me this huge thanks
- 41:39Speaker 3: to Jail for listening.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Love that she did.
- 41:41Speaker 3: She listened to every episode and she listened. She gives
- 41:44Speaker 3: me reviews, and she wrote this long winded thing. I'm
- 41:50Speaker 3: on the road at a game and I see I see, like,
- 41:52Speaker 3: oh my god, ad NaN's review of Wicked, Like are
- 41:56Speaker 3: you anyways? Is I have to find it? And anyway
- 42:00Speaker 3: I won't find it, but I'm gonna let her kind
- 42:02Speaker 3: of tell it and maybe spark sparing your.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Little rather rather than you reading the text. She's gonna
- 42:06Speaker 1: come on right now, this is what we're doing. This
- 42:08Speaker 1: is like I first take her something like, I wasn't
- 42:11Speaker 1: ready for this.
- 42:11Speaker 2: I didn't think, oh.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Yeah no, this is we're now. She's oh god, this
- 42:15Speaker 3: is to catch a predator. But all right, that movie
- 42:18Speaker 3: review edition. So we're gonna Jillian, let's go get in here.
- 42:23Speaker 2: I didn't know this condemption.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I know you're listening. Yeah, fine, she's coming in. She's
- 42:27Speaker 3: coming in hot, she's studying.
- 42:29Speaker 6: She read it.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Her term was her term was her term was? He
- 42:34Speaker 3: likes jukebox music, jukes bo jeez, I'm gonna let her
- 42:37Speaker 3: say it.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Okay, Oh my god, Hi, Jillian Mueller is here, Ladies
- 42:41Speaker 1: and gentlemen.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Great to see it. Jill.
- 42:43Speaker 1: We love your husband, We love the fact for doing
- 42:45Speaker 1: this podcast, and I appreciate the fact that you're listening.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And I butther you up by the apparently you have
- 42:50Speaker 1: great contempt for my dismissive attitude towards Wicked.
- 42:53Speaker 7: Please tell me it's so funny because now I took
- 42:56Speaker 7: a screenshot of what I said, and now I feel
- 42:58Speaker 7: like so bad because I'm like.
- 43:00Speaker 2: This is so aggressive for what we're talking about. This
- 43:02Speaker 2: is not that deep. But I had a opinions. It
- 43:05Speaker 2: was like eleven PM that night.
- 43:06Speaker 7: I'm like, listening to it.
- 43:08Speaker 1: This is the vast majority of people would agree with you.
- 43:10Speaker 1: The movies made six hundred million dollars. It's got critical praise,
- 43:13Speaker 1: So go ahead, Black.
- 43:15Speaker 2: My issue is not even that you don't like it.
- 43:16Speaker 7: I actually love a strong opinion, and I specifically love
- 43:20Speaker 7: when something's like loved by people and then it's like
- 43:22Speaker 7: underwhelming to you, because that's kind of usually how I feel.
- 43:24Speaker 7: Once everybody likes it, I'm like, well, I'm probably not
- 43:26Speaker 7: I'm going to be like a little Yeah. This was
- 43:29Speaker 7: my issue was you had said you had liked the
- 43:33Speaker 7: stage production of Mulan Rouge.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Fine lobbed it, took my wife falatine.
- 43:37Speaker 7: It look okay great, But you said that and then
- 43:39Speaker 7: go the songs in Wicked aren't that good. Mulan Rouge
- 43:44Speaker 7: is a jukebox musical. It is bad romance and like
- 43:47Speaker 7: Chandelier and Britney Spears songs being stung a song in
- 43:51Speaker 7: a musical theater way, whereas Wicked is like original music.
- 43:55Speaker 2: You can still not like it.
- 43:57Speaker 7: It could still not be for you, but you cannot
- 43:59Speaker 7: compare it. And that is my stance.
- 44:04Speaker 2: It's a fair point. I still will not.
- 44:06Speaker 1: I still don't think the music and Wicked is puicckarly
- 44:07Speaker 1: strong the exception with the exception define gravity and popular
- 44:11Speaker 1: is pretty catchy.
- 44:12Speaker 2: But you are right, Willan Ruse is a remix of
- 44:14Speaker 2: popular music.
- 44:15Speaker 6: All that song. So to me, it's just it's two
- 44:18Speaker 6: different it's.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Too, two different genres than the musical genre. Yes, what
- 44:21Speaker 1: if I tell you I love Jersey Boys, is that
- 44:23Speaker 1: the same thing? Is that a jukebox musical?
- 44:24Speaker 2: That is a jukebox musical?
- 44:25Speaker 7: But I love do they do the story that's like
- 44:29Speaker 7: a biopic type musical. So I'm into that.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I do love when they do that.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Well, I love the fact that you were this passion
- 44:35Speaker 1: enough to hop on here. Listen, you have to come
- 44:37Speaker 1: back now. Okay, you're you're an acclaimed actress.
- 44:39Speaker 2: You're gonna come back.
- 44:39Speaker 1: We're gonna do Oscar previews. We're gonna come back and
- 44:41Speaker 1: do post Oscar show with us.
- 44:42Speaker 7: Now.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Is that good?
- 44:43Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 44:43Speaker 3: Anytime?
- 44:44Speaker 2: Anytime.
- 44:45Speaker 7: Okay, as a matter if your listeners actually give a shit, no, well,
- 44:48Speaker 7: we're gonna.
- 44:49Speaker 2: Get lots of Positi feedback before we go. Then what
- 44:51Speaker 2: did you think of a Nora?
- 44:52Speaker 1: Because it's my favorite film, one of my favorite films
- 44:53Speaker 1: of the year, and Jason wasn't as crazy about it.
- 44:55Speaker 7: I liked it too, I'm with I'm kind of with Jason,
- 44:58Speaker 7: just because but this is again, this is my own stuff,
- 45:01Speaker 7: where like I'm always sort of biased that I'm like,
- 45:04Speaker 7: they always want like the young girls taking their clothes off,
- 45:06Speaker 7: and so I was like, okay, and here we are
- 45:07Speaker 7: again again again.
- 45:09Speaker 3: But listen, it sells and.
- 45:11Speaker 7: That's why people are captured by it. I totally get it.
- 45:15Speaker 7: I do think everything always is a little long. I
- 45:18Speaker 7: feel like the movie could be like ninety minutes and
- 45:19Speaker 7: be like tight and really good.
- 45:21Speaker 1: Okay, well thanks for having me guys, of course, Jillian Bulloch,
- 45:23Speaker 1: great to see you.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Next time, let's bring back in your husband here. That
- 45:28Speaker 1: was quite the sneak attack, but I think it was enjoyable.
- 45:31Speaker 3: My wife knows that I hide that jersey and only
- 45:34Speaker 3: I get the full jersey wrap.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Well, your point. She wanted to eviscerate me, but she's like,
- 45:40Speaker 2: this is the first time talking to this guy.
- 45:41Speaker 3: I can't kill him or I'm listening going she's sweet
- 45:45Speaker 3: as a button right now, She's going to add and
- 45:47Speaker 3: mother beep, mother beat this guy.
- 45:50Speaker 2: We need we need to read the original text.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Me know his ass from his elbow, get paid him
- 45:56Speaker 3: beep beep, beep beep. And I was like, Jesus, honey,
- 46:00Speaker 3: he's a nice guy. She's like, never work with him again.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Sweet as the button, so he's apple pie.
- 46:05Speaker 1: She agreed to come back. We're gonna do an Oscar's preview.
- 46:08Speaker 1: We'll do an Oscar's recap show. Jillian Willer be back.
- 46:11Speaker 2: A couple of hockey items here before we close some
- 46:13Speaker 2: shop show today.
- 46:15Speaker 1: This has definitely been all over the place, But this
- 46:17Speaker 1: is one that Bob Bennon was fired up about. No
- 46:21Speaker 1: for the first time. It is forty three years providing
- 46:23Speaker 1: play by playing for the Toronto Maple Leaves, legendary broadcaster
- 46:26Speaker 1: Joe Bowen Holy mackinaw request a day off from works
- 46:29Speaker 1: he can watch his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish played
- 46:31Speaker 1: the Ohio State University College Football National Championship.
- 46:34Speaker 2: We all know the Irish loss by the way, thirty
- 46:35Speaker 2: four to twenty three. But the question is, do you
- 46:38Speaker 2: think Joe Bowen's a slacker?
- 46:41Speaker 1: Now?
- 46:41Speaker 2: Why first one missed?
- 46:45Speaker 3: Yeah, this isn't a Chinese sweatshop here, Like, he can
- 46:48Speaker 3: take a day off if he wants.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I think he's done more than enough for the game
- 46:52Speaker 1: of hockey and the Ape Lave specifically. And I and
- 46:54Speaker 1: I know Joe a little bit. I worked for MLSD
- 46:56Speaker 1: in two thousand and nine.
- 46:56Speaker 2: Very nice man.
- 46:57Speaker 1: If you told me what do you know about Joe
- 46:58Speaker 1: Bonen'm like, he loves Notre Dame. That's why the first
- 47:00Speaker 1: thing I told him, Like, dude, he's he is a
- 47:02Speaker 1: giganta Nore Dame fan.
- 47:03Speaker 2: It's legit his thing.
- 47:04Speaker 3: Fine, all good, I'll tell you. I'll tell you this
- 47:07Speaker 3: having worked on this side of the fence now and
- 47:09Speaker 3: being in media and you know, on the road with
- 47:12Speaker 3: the TV crew at NBC with Randy Handrewman, and I
- 47:15Speaker 3: work with Dan Rusanowski pretty closely.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Nice.
- 47:17Speaker 3: These guys do so much work and are so on
- 47:21Speaker 3: top of it day in and day out, supporting the team,
- 47:24Speaker 3: being ambassad of the team. I was sitting on the
- 47:26Speaker 3: plane with Dan Rosenowski and after every game he has
- 47:29Speaker 3: a couple of glass of wine and he'll usually fall
- 47:32Speaker 3: asleep right on his computer as he's chopping up the shows.
- 47:35Speaker 3: He's the best, but he'll turn and start telling me
- 47:37Speaker 3: stories and he literally, like one of the first times
- 47:40Speaker 3: we're on the trip together, he always look at me
- 47:41Speaker 3: because he's in the Hall of Fame, and he goes,
- 47:44Speaker 3: he always goes, stick with me, kid, and then he
- 47:48Speaker 3: and then he goes, he's one of the I love
- 47:51Speaker 3: going to dinner with him, chopping it up. He gives
- 47:53Speaker 3: me like all these eighties references. Yeah, and he turns
- 47:56Speaker 3: to me and he goes, you know, I've only missed
- 47:57Speaker 3: six games in my career. I think it was like
- 48:00Speaker 3: it might be even less than that, And because I
- 48:03Speaker 3: was like, oh yeah, really like and he's been working
- 48:06Speaker 3: since the Shark's inception, so since however, long ago, every
- 48:09Speaker 3: single game, and I said, oh, what made you miss?
- 48:12Speaker 3: He's like, I got hit in the car. I got
- 48:14Speaker 3: hit not hitting the car. I got hit by a
- 48:16Speaker 3: car and I was in the and I was in
- 48:18Speaker 3: the er and he's like, oh, my wife the game.
- 48:20Speaker 2: I was like, Jesus Christ, Dad, and I still would
- 48:23Speaker 2: have done the game. I was like, I would have done.
- 48:25Speaker 3: He's like I was trying to get there. I was like,
- 48:26Speaker 3: just an absolute warrior something. These guys deserve a day
- 48:29Speaker 3: off if they want, but these are such like coveted
- 48:32Speaker 3: jobs that you wouldn't even realize how coveted they are
- 48:35Speaker 3: that when you get it, you were like, I am
- 48:37Speaker 3: not leaving. I am here, I am working. These guys
- 48:40Speaker 3: work so hard.
- 48:41Speaker 2: This is the last story we're going to do.
- 48:43Speaker 1: In the first game following me with David's suspension, the
- 48:45Speaker 1: Older scored a bizarre goal against the Caps Tuesday, like
- 48:47Speaker 1: Corey Perry skated past to play the nachos that had
- 48:50Speaker 1: been hurled on the ice, pass washing a gullie Logan
- 48:52Speaker 1: Thompson immediately protest to climbing, he was distracted with a
- 48:54Speaker 1: discarded snack logan. Afford said, listen, you know you'll check
- 48:58Speaker 1: the rules and something's throwing there. The Rep's supposed to
- 48:59Speaker 1: wait the bees.
- 49:00Speaker 2: It's my fault. I gotta play through the whistle. They didn't,
- 49:02Speaker 2: they didn't see it. Whatever, it's on me. Correct to them.
- 49:04Speaker 1: But yeah, was I distracted? Obviously there's nachos. You played
- 49:07Speaker 1: a long time. The NHL said, games, what's the weirdest
- 49:10Speaker 1: distraction you ever encountered during a game? And I'm not
- 49:12Speaker 1: counting a woman flashing gave him monreal.
- 49:15Speaker 3: I was gonna say, I was gonna say tits, but no, no,
- 49:19Speaker 3: I never did, never have.
- 49:21Speaker 2: Told that story. He goes, they have girls the big
- 49:23Speaker 2: knockers and.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Not chill problem. Uh what happened? I I mean the
- 49:29Speaker 3: funny I could just say the funniest thing I've seen
- 49:30Speaker 3: throw on the ice is I had this coach in
- 49:33Speaker 3: my my first year in the miners up, David cut
- 49:37Speaker 3: David Kunneth, awesome guy from mass and thick accent, just
- 49:43Speaker 3: an amazing no yeah but like his like father was
- 49:48Speaker 3: like friends with Whitey Balger and stuff like this guy's
- 49:50Speaker 3: got oh yeah, like he's like, he's a tough son
- 49:54Speaker 3: of a bitch. Like he's I've once seen him punch
- 49:56Speaker 3: a coffee pot with his hand, break his hand. He
- 49:59Speaker 3: beat up like a projector because it wasn't showing the
- 50:02Speaker 3: clips right. But he'd be on the ice and he
- 50:04Speaker 3: would literally throw like if we needed a time out
- 50:07Speaker 3: and we'd already burned it, he'd throw like he'd throw
- 50:09Speaker 3: like pennies on the ice and like change and I'm like, ah,
- 50:12Speaker 3: this change on the I'm like.
- 50:15Speaker 2: You're gonna kill somebody with this.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Somebody's gonna step on it, break their ankle on He'd
- 50:20Speaker 3: hockey just to get the time out. So like, that's
- 50:22Speaker 3: the biggest abstraction. That was probably my coach, but coach
- 50:25Speaker 3: kind of that's unbelievable. At Coyotes, a lot of the
- 50:28Speaker 3: games were distracted by the lack of fans distractions. It's
- 50:34Speaker 3: a dressed like a seat night some nights, and that
- 50:37Speaker 3: was not on the fans. That's on ownership.
- 50:39Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. This was a lot of fun
- 50:42Speaker 2: here on Unscripted episode eight.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Again, please go to Apple podcast wherever you subscribe, rate review,
- 50:46Speaker 1: tell all your friends. I thought this would be the
- 50:48Speaker 1: first episode we might go only one guest, but a
- 50:50Speaker 1: surprise guest again, Jillian Muller coming out of the top
- 50:52Speaker 1: rope to talk wicked, but once again thanks to Jordan Martin.
- 50:55Speaker 1: A great guest booking by Jason de Murz. We'll see
- 50:58Speaker 1: if Bender can step it up next time. Good work
- 51:00Speaker 1: at a towel, emiled out the glasses. Thanks for watching Unscripted,
- 51:03Speaker 1: and thanks for listening Scripted Go.
