- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into Jagsam.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I'm kind Annie Stevens, John Oser, and Brian sex center
- 0:21Speaker 2: with me as we get ready for our first postseason
- 0:23Speaker 2: edition of jags Am. As things ended in a disappointing
- 0:27Speaker 2: way is the Drags loss of the Titans in their
- 0:29Speaker 2: final game of the season and miss out on the
- 0:30Speaker 2: playoffs finishing nine and eight. Our first big thing today
- 0:34Speaker 2: is deja A lot of the issues we talked about
- 0:36Speaker 2: all season came back to bite this team in their
- 0:38Speaker 2: final game of the season against the Titans.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Doug Peterson talked about things post game.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I'm frustrated, I'm disappointed, I'm mad, angry. You know, my
- 0:49Speaker 3: heart hurts obviously for the players coaches involved. There's they've
- 0:53Speaker 3: they've they've worked their tails off, but you know it's
- 0:57Speaker 3: today's game was sort of our season in a nutshell.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Really.
- 1:02Speaker 3: The mistakes, the penalties, the turnovers, misstackles and those are
- 1:08Speaker 3: all things that you know hurt us, you know down the.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Stretch, Brian turnovers, mistakes, self inflicting mistakes, penalties, bad tackling.
- 1:18Speaker 2: All that stuff we talked about all season long never
- 1:20Speaker 2: got fixed and ended up biting them in the end.
- 1:22Speaker 5: It did you know, there were There were times over
- 1:24Speaker 5: the final six games, five of which obviously were losses,
- 1:27Speaker 5: were a good points say, well, you got Blake Hant
- 1:29Speaker 5: starting at left tackle against Cleveland, or you're missing Andre
- 1:32Speaker 5: Cisco and Tyson Campbell in the secondary and there's no
- 1:34Speaker 5: Christian Kirk and you could kind of see where things
- 1:37Speaker 5: would be rough. But the underlying theme of trouble on
- 1:40Speaker 5: third down, ineffectiveness in the red zone, poor tackling never changed.
- 1:46Speaker 5: It was a constant theme. There were moments where it
- 1:48Speaker 5: was okay, no point at all that they were consistent
- 1:51Speaker 5: this year in the areas that the head coach pointed
- 1:54Speaker 5: out that they needed to be consistent with. And that's
- 1:57Speaker 5: a big problem and it's why he's making changes.
- 1:59Speaker 6: Well.
- 2:00Speaker 7: In the NFL, bad teams do what the Jaguars were
- 2:03Speaker 7: doing at the end of the season. And I don't
- 2:04Speaker 7: think the Jaguars were a bad team all season, but
- 2:08Speaker 7: they kept doing these things that bad teams do, and
- 2:12Speaker 7: Doug knew it, The coaches knew it. They kept talking
- 2:15Speaker 7: about it, they kept emphasizing it, and the turnovers kept happening,
- 2:19Speaker 7: the mistakes.
- 2:21Speaker 6: The drive killing penalties.
- 2:22Speaker 7: All of a sudden, you know how many times this
- 2:24Speaker 7: year did you feel like they were in first and fifteen,
- 2:26Speaker 7: you know, which for this team was a big lift.
- 2:30Speaker 7: You know, obviously Doug saw something fairly systemic, because as
- 2:36Speaker 7: close as the head coach can do without leaving, he's
- 2:39Speaker 7: hit the reset button.
- 2:40Speaker 6: So this is the time for change.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Our second big thing is lights too breat We talked
- 2:47Speaker 2: a lot about the team playing their best football in
- 2:50Speaker 2: big games the year before, but this.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Year it was the opposite.
- 2:52Speaker 2: There was a ton of big games on the schedule,
- 2:54Speaker 2: but seems like they weren't able to get up for
- 2:56Speaker 2: those games. Trevor Lawrence talked about that after the game
- 2:58Speaker 2: against the Titans.
- 3:00Speaker 4: For some reason. You know, we just didn't play as
- 3:04Speaker 4: good as a team as the season went on. You know,
- 3:07Speaker 4: when we needed it, when we needed to be our best,
- 3:08Speaker 4: we weren't. And last year it is the opposite. You know,
- 3:11Speaker 4: when we needed to be our best and absolutely had
- 3:13Speaker 4: to have it, we were and we found a way
- 3:15Speaker 4: to win up until the divisional So yeah, it's uh,
- 3:20Speaker 4: you just have to bring that every week, and there
- 3:21Speaker 4: was a disconnect somewhere and obviously we weren't able to
- 3:24Speaker 4: put that on the field in the back half of
- 3:26Speaker 4: the season, like we needed to to give ourselves a
- 3:29Speaker 4: chance to make the playoffs and go on a run.
- 3:31Speaker 4: And yeah, it's yeah, it definitely sucks though.
- 3:37Speaker 1: John.
- 3:37Speaker 2: We were in the locker room doing some of those
- 3:38Speaker 2: exit interviews the other day. A lot of the players
- 3:40Speaker 2: said they felt like, you know, season before, it felt like, oh,
- 3:42Speaker 2: it'll happen, something will turn it around. They'll be that
- 3:44Speaker 2: spark or something like that. But this year and that
- 3:46Speaker 2: never came, and it felt like they were kind of
- 3:47Speaker 2: waiting for that a little bit instead of fixing things
- 3:49Speaker 2: in the moment.
- 3:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:51Speaker 7: And you know, I'm not sure what finding a spark
- 3:54Speaker 7: or waiting for spark me. I do know that the
- 3:59Speaker 7: last game felt like a micro cosm this season, and
- 4:02Speaker 7: I Doug talked a little about that last you know,
- 4:06Speaker 7: not being able to get in on third and fourth
- 4:08Speaker 7: and one. To me, the micro cosm was they never
- 4:11Speaker 7: came back this year. They trailed eight times at halftime
- 4:15Speaker 7: I think or seven times at halftime, and they lost
- 4:18Speaker 7: all the games. They almost captured the magic on Sunday
- 4:22Speaker 7: a little bit. You know, they're down what fifteen, come
- 4:24Speaker 7: back you make it eight and then you feel like,
- 4:27Speaker 7: oh my goodness, here's the comeback thing. And then it
- 4:30Speaker 7: goes away, And to me, that sort of summed up
- 4:33Speaker 7: the season. They never could Once they took a body
- 4:36Speaker 7: blow in a game and got down, Brian, they never
- 4:39Speaker 7: could get back up. And that was the polar opposite
- 4:42Speaker 7: of what this team like was last year. And that's
- 4:46Speaker 7: why when people have asked me in last couple of
- 4:48Speaker 7: days what happened, I'm kind of at a loss. I
- 4:52Speaker 7: don't know why they didn't have that chip. It carried
- 4:55Speaker 7: him last year and you thought that's what they were
- 4:57Speaker 7: and they weren't that this year.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Well, you heard Doug in his news conference on Monday
- 5:00Speaker 5: say that he had been talking to the players and
- 5:02Speaker 5: trying to figure out the why behind how they could
- 5:06Speaker 5: not show up in big games. They didn't Chiefs, Niners, Ravens, Bengals,
- 5:10Speaker 5: and then the biggest of all games this year, the
- 5:12Speaker 5: Titans game. They they were no shows. It was bad
- 5:15Speaker 5: performances all around. Some days it was the offense the Chiefs,
- 5:18Speaker 5: sometimes it was the defense the Bengals. You figure it out,
- 5:22Speaker 5: but if you don't tell us what those whys are,
- 5:24Speaker 5: well then we get to discuss all of them and
- 5:26Speaker 5: all the possibilities. So here's one, and that is They're
- 5:29Speaker 5: just not good enough on either line.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Right.
- 5:31Speaker 5: We thought the offensive line had the pieces in place
- 5:34Speaker 5: to be a really solid unit. Well they don't. We
- 5:40Speaker 5: talked last week about Cam Robinson being a guy they
- 5:43Speaker 5: had to have out there. He didn't play very well
- 5:44Speaker 5: on Sunday. Walker Little didn't play very well this season.
- 5:48Speaker 5: The center was dead roached, put on his back on
- 5:52Speaker 5: the most important play of the season on fourth down. Okay, well,
- 5:56Speaker 5: you've got to get better on the offensive line and
- 5:58Speaker 5: on defense, and now they're gonna have a whole new
- 6:00Speaker 5: staff guy. But they knew what was coming on Sunday.
- 6:03Speaker 5: They knew it was going to be the Dereck Henry show.
- 6:06Speaker 5: That was all the Titans had, and it was the
- 6:08Speaker 5: Derrick Henry Show over and over and over, so they
- 6:12Speaker 5: couldn't stop it. I think in the reality of it,
- 6:14Speaker 5: the why is they just were good enough for those
- 6:17Speaker 5: big games that were circled on the calendar.
- 6:19Speaker 1: That leads us into our final big thing, which is
- 6:21Speaker 1: the biggest big thing, and it's the blame game.
- 6:24Speaker 2: There's a lot of blame to go around here, and
- 6:26Speaker 2: some people have already been fired because of that. Brian,
- 6:29Speaker 2: we discussed the defensive staff Mike Caldwell was released as
- 6:32Speaker 2: well as his staff and some changes on the other
- 6:34Speaker 2: side of the football as well. Is this just a
- 6:37Speaker 2: little bit of what's to come? I mean we've discussed
- 6:39Speaker 2: this is a pretty big change on the coaching staff.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Well, you know, Ky, I've never seen it. I mean,
- 6:43Speaker 5: I've seen a defensive coordinator dismissed and then coach is
- 6:46Speaker 5: allowed to leave. I've never seen it wholesale wiped off
- 6:49Speaker 5: the chalkboard, so to speak, like this. So it seems
- 6:51Speaker 5: pretty dramatic. It probably isn't quite that dramatic with what
- 6:57Speaker 5: happened this year, especially in the final game of the season,
- 7:00Speaker 5: and it makes sense. And so it's just a little
- 7:03Speaker 5: bit boulder of a move, a more sudden move on
- 7:06Speaker 5: the part of the coach to get changed. That absolutely
- 7:08Speaker 5: has to come, John. You can't lose five of your
- 7:10Speaker 5: last six games. You can't go from being eight and three.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Remember eight one point eight and three. They were number
- 7:18Speaker 5: one with home field advantage in the AFC, and then
- 7:21Speaker 5: from that point forward they just slid off the map.
- 7:24Speaker 5: When you have that, you have to make changes, no
- 7:26Speaker 5: matter how dramatic it may seem. You have to clean
- 7:29Speaker 5: things up and sometimes that means cleaning things out.
- 7:33Speaker 7: Yeah, I hope somebody got a screenshot of the NBC
- 7:35Speaker 7: graphic that night with the one next to it, because
- 7:38Speaker 7: it seems very fleeting. I'm not a big always blame coaching.
- 7:47Speaker 7: The reality is you can't fire all the players, so
- 7:50Speaker 7: if you want to make a change, you have to fire.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Coaches.
- 7:55Speaker 7: That's where we are, and in two weeks or in
- 7:58Speaker 7: a certain amount of time, we'll be listening to new
- 8:00Speaker 7: defensive coordinator talk about the philosophy going forward. Whatever happens,
- 8:06Speaker 7: a players on defense have to play a lot better.
- 8:10Speaker 7: To me on Sunday, it looked like, you know, lack
- 8:13Speaker 7: a focus whatever. When you tell people to fill gaps
- 8:16Speaker 7: and they don't fill them, I'm not sure how to
- 8:19Speaker 7: fix that.
- 8:20Speaker 2: We'll deep dive into this the rest of the show
- 8:22Speaker 2: and of course tomorrow as well. Stay with us here
- 8:24Speaker 2: we'll look back at that final game of the year
- 8:26Speaker 2: against the Titans. Jacks fans, you can sign up your

- 8:58Speaker 2: Welcome back to jag Vam presented by KRS. We're here
- 9:00Speaker 2: in the Hundai Studios and Star Final. First of the postseason.
- 9:05Speaker 2: I guess final if you want to call this the
- 9:07Speaker 2: last little bit of the regular season. But you know,
- 9:09Speaker 2: we would have liked to do some playoff shows. That
- 9:11Speaker 2: would have been great. I think we're all hoping for that.
- 9:13Speaker 2: But I think the way that things were finishing, I mean,
- 9:16Speaker 2: it's a complete opposite of what we saw this team
- 9:19Speaker 2: of twenty twenty two, right Like, they were cold and
- 9:21Speaker 2: then they got really hot, and then they started off
- 9:22Speaker 2: hot this year and then they just worked their way down.
- 9:24Speaker 2: And I think everybody's kind of still looking for some
- 9:27Speaker 2: answers at this point.
- 9:27Speaker 5: They are, and they're pointing to injuries, and that makes sense, right,
- 9:32Speaker 5: I Mean, there were a lot of guys banged up,
- 9:34Speaker 5: and last year, John, they stayed healthy for the large part.
- 9:37Speaker 5: They didn't have other than losing your left tackle Cam
- 9:39Speaker 5: Robinson in twenty twenty two, and Walker Little stepped in
- 9:42Speaker 5: and played really well. This year, there were just too
- 9:44Speaker 5: many guys that were unavailable for them to play, and
- 9:47Speaker 5: I do think that injuries are a legitimate reason why
- 9:50Speaker 5: they didn't play well down the stretch. However, last week,
- 9:53Speaker 5: they had most of their guys on the field. I mean,
- 9:55Speaker 5: they didn't have Christian Kirk, but they had Cam Robinson,
- 9:59Speaker 5: they had ezrac Cleveland. They believed that they were going
- 10:01Speaker 5: to be ready to play in a game for all
- 10:04Speaker 5: the Marvels. Everything was right there in front of them,
- 10:06Speaker 5: and this was a game they said, they know the stakes,
- 10:09Speaker 5: and they still didn't get it done.
- 10:11Speaker 7: Well. It's so situational this league now, and when you
- 10:15Speaker 7: can't run, it's hard to function offensively, and they couldn't
- 10:21Speaker 7: rely on the run. When you couple that with you
- 10:26Speaker 7: really didn't have the Zay Jones we saw last year
- 10:29Speaker 7: all season, and Zay was a guy last season that
- 10:33Speaker 7: Trevor depended on in the clutch moments on third down.
- 10:37Speaker 7: You lost Marvin Jones, who was a guy that made big,
- 10:41Speaker 7: big catches. He was at the end of his career,
- 10:43Speaker 7: but he made a lot of clutch third down stuff.
- 10:47Speaker 7: Christian Kirk all of a sudden goes away in the
- 10:50Speaker 7: last five weeks of the season. So now the last
- 10:52Speaker 7: five weeks of the season, you feel clunky. If you're
- 10:55Speaker 7: not going to Evan Ingram, you sort of felt clunky.
- 10:58Speaker 7: And you know, you couple that with the quarterback not
- 11:02Speaker 7: being able to practice for the last five or six weeks.
- 11:06Speaker 7: That meant an offense in a game of inches that
- 11:10Speaker 7: couldn't get those inches when they needed them. And I
- 11:12Speaker 7: don't think they're far away offensively, but clearly they have
- 11:15Speaker 7: to have right now. That has to have consistency and continuity.
- 11:20Speaker 7: They can't will themselves to things and that showed up
- 11:23Speaker 7: the end of the season.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Let's go over some of the plays from that final
- 11:27Speaker 2: game against the Titans. We knew Derrick Henry was going
- 11:29Speaker 2: to be a problem, but ty J. Spears was a
- 11:32Speaker 2: problem too for this offense. Anybody that was rushing the
- 11:34Speaker 2: football for the Titans were a problem for this defense.
- 11:36Speaker 1: And just somebody miss tackles.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I mean it was really like almost comedic at times,
- 11:42Speaker 2: the amount of tackles they were missing. It is that
- 11:43Speaker 2: just an effort thing? Is is that where you know
- 11:46Speaker 2: they're losing some of the coachings just effort.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Well, I think you look here and you see, I mean,
- 11:50Speaker 5: here's forty four coming hard. He misses. And then there's
- 11:53Speaker 5: Devin Lloyd, who's got a bad angle. I don't know
- 11:57Speaker 5: if it's effort, if it's a bad angle, sad coaching,
- 12:00Speaker 5: but I mean, look at all the guys around there.
- 12:02Speaker 5: Those are two first round picks last year, Devin Lloyd
- 12:06Speaker 5: and Trey Von Walker, and you expect those guys to
- 12:08Speaker 5: make that play and neither one did.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I go back to when Trevor I think after one
- 12:12Speaker 2: of these losses, was just like, it looks like we
- 12:14Speaker 2: don't practice. And sometimes it really looks like they just
- 12:17Speaker 2: don't practice those sorts of things, and I'm sure they do,
- 12:19Speaker 2: it's just it's difficult to watch.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I would say one.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Of the brief highlights that we got to see in
- 12:26Speaker 2: the game was that connection between Trevor and Calvin Ridley
- 12:30Speaker 2: for that long touch, a beautiful, beautiful throw, And I
- 12:33Speaker 2: think that's the thing where you're just like, that's why
- 12:35Speaker 2: I get so frustrated, because you're like, he can do that,
- 12:37Speaker 2: they can do this. Why do they make it look
- 12:40Speaker 2: so difficult?
- 12:40Speaker 1: Sometimes?
- 12:41Speaker 7: John Well, I think that play obviously a great play
- 12:44Speaker 7: and at work to me on Sunday, and everyo's gonna
- 12:47Speaker 7: say you'd make an excuse for Trevor.
- 12:48Speaker 6: I thought he was shot put in the ball because
- 12:50Speaker 6: of his shoulder.
- 12:51Speaker 7: It looked in the second half like it he was
- 12:54Speaker 7: having to push it a little bit, even on that play,
- 12:56Speaker 7: a little bit. If you see it, maybe I'm seeing
- 12:58Speaker 7: it wrong, maybe I'm seeing it the glasses up.
- 13:01Speaker 6: Whatever.
- 13:02Speaker 7: So I think that had a lot to do with Sunday,
- 13:04Speaker 7: especially in the second half, where everything just felt like
- 13:08Speaker 7: it was hard, Like even right there looked like it.
- 13:12Speaker 6: Why doesn't happen more?
- 13:13Speaker 7: I think big plays don't happen more on offense, basically
- 13:15Speaker 7: when you can't run and the defense doesn't believe that
- 13:18Speaker 7: you're gonna run, so they always through seven or eight
- 13:21Speaker 7: men back because they don't believe in it. The offensive
- 13:26Speaker 7: line or slash running game. Not being reliable, defenses this
- 13:33Speaker 7: year did not believe that this team could run their
- 13:36Speaker 7: way to a victory. As a result, they didn't care
- 13:39Speaker 7: about stopping it enough. There's more to it than that, well,
- 13:42Speaker 7: but to me, that sums it up.
- 13:43Speaker 5: I also think that you you get to the goal line,
- 13:46Speaker 5: third down and goal from the one yard line, and
- 13:48Speaker 5: you think we ought to be pushing one yard. I
- 13:51Speaker 5: mean it's one yard. Let's go. The Jaguars didn't right,
- 13:56Speaker 5: and then on third and one, I think that's a
- 13:58Speaker 5: running down, and they didn't have enough confidence, at least
- 14:02Speaker 5: from my perspective, in the running game to go with it.
- 14:05Speaker 5: They ran that two man route to the right and
- 14:09Speaker 5: it just didn't It didn't make sense.
- 14:11Speaker 7: But considering how the season have played out, I understood,
- 14:13Speaker 7: I understand why they didn't have confidence room so that
- 14:17Speaker 7: they were not good on so many situations this year
- 14:19Speaker 7: where third and two, third and three, A Kai and
- 14:24Speaker 7: I sitting next to each other in the press box
- 14:26Speaker 7: the most road games, and there a couple of times
- 14:27Speaker 7: where we said third and one seems so hard.
- 14:31Speaker 6: It seems like a long way for this team this year.
- 14:35Speaker 7: It's true of a lot of teams, but the good
- 14:37Speaker 7: teams don't worry that much about picking up third and one.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Let's look ahead to Derrick Henry.
- 14:43Speaker 2: We knew what they were going to feed him the
- 14:44Speaker 2: ball about as many times as they possibly could. They
- 14:46Speaker 2: had six linemen out there half the time to block
- 14:48Speaker 2: for him. But he made it look a lot. He
- 14:50Speaker 2: turned back the clock, that's for sure. He wanted to
- 14:52Speaker 2: go out on a high note, and he certainly did.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And what he's been able to do. I know he's
- 14:57Speaker 2: a super talented. I don't want to take anything away
- 14:59Speaker 2: from Derek Henry, but they made it look so simple.
- 15:02Speaker 1: When he was rushing out there, he looked so dominant.
- 15:04Speaker 1: It looked like he was playing from five years ago.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Well, and just look at how hesitant Devin Layder's He
- 15:10Speaker 5: stuck his nose back to the inside and Henry was
- 15:13Speaker 5: clearly hited out. I don't know how again, a first
- 15:17Speaker 5: round pick could have such a bad game, in such
- 15:20Speaker 5: a big game.
- 15:21Speaker 7: He dripped into the wrong gap and Derek Clary knew
- 15:24Speaker 7: he that's his mo and Derek knew that's gonna happen
- 15:29Speaker 7: and set him up.
- 15:31Speaker 6: An eight year guy beat a second year guy.
- 15:34Speaker 7: And I don't know if the other plays were as
- 15:36Speaker 7: glaring as this with a specific player, but.
- 15:40Speaker 6: They said it all week. They have to get a
- 15:42Speaker 6: hat on him and not let him get roll. And
- 15:44Speaker 6: it's the old case.
- 15:44Speaker 7: Say every Jaguars fan has read Jaguars players for seven
- 15:49Speaker 7: years talk about how stop Derek Henry.
- 15:50Speaker 6: They don't know how to do it. They just didn't
- 15:51Speaker 6: do it on Sunday.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sure easier to say than do I'm
- 15:56Speaker 2: very obvious to try to tackle that man.
- 15:58Speaker 5: But well, we also knew by the way they were
- 16:00Speaker 5: going to feed him the ball and that it was
- 16:01Speaker 5: going to be a big emotional day for him because
- 16:03Speaker 5: it's probably his final game in Tennessee, especially now that
- 16:05Speaker 5: they fired Mike Braby.
- 16:07Speaker 6: But didn't you know he gets a twelve yeard run
- 16:10Speaker 6: in the first series.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, and you just you felt it.
- 16:13Speaker 5: The sixteen yard run.
- 16:15Speaker 7: Yeah, you don't want to say it, and I didn't,
- 16:17Speaker 7: but you almost feel like you can close the laptop
- 16:20Speaker 7: and go home. Yeah, because it feel like the tone
- 16:23Speaker 7: was set and much like the team all year. Unfortunately
- 16:28Speaker 7: a last year's team. Remember another microcosm up there. Derrick
- 16:33Speaker 7: Henry had a monster first quarter than nothing, and then
- 16:36Speaker 7: shaq Qrterman hit him and then he did nothing in
- 16:38Speaker 7: the rest of the season against the Jags this year
- 16:40Speaker 7: as a monster first quarter and they go away.
- 16:43Speaker 6: That's the story of the season. Unfortunately. I wish it wasn't.
- 16:45Speaker 5: By the way, that was an offensive line that was
- 16:47Speaker 5: playing very poorly, and that had been the problem the
- 16:50Speaker 5: Achilles heel for the Titans all season long, and they
- 16:53Speaker 5: dominated the line of scrimmage.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Makes you think because they have just as many, if
- 16:57Speaker 2: not more, excuse me, offensive line problems than we've had
- 16:59Speaker 2: in their able to do that. So let's jump ahead
- 17:03Speaker 2: of that last kind of I mean, they had a
- 17:06Speaker 2: last possession after this, but this is the one that
- 17:08Speaker 2: kind of really broke them with the Zay Jones going
- 17:10Speaker 2: down to the one.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Yard line on that game.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I don't remember the down on this one, but just
- 17:16Speaker 2: coming up shore, I think that's the third down. That
- 17:18Speaker 2: was second, second down, and then they did the third
- 17:20Speaker 2: down second down. Kind of a bad spot obviously whatever
- 17:23Speaker 2: after the fact, but and then to get that point,
- 17:26Speaker 2: and then they do this throwing situation, which, as we discussed,
- 17:29Speaker 2: we would have, you.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Know, try to run it on third down, but.
- 17:32Speaker 6: I wouldn't John. I discussed it absolute your third and
- 17:37Speaker 6: a long one. This wasn't a third and line. This
- 17:40Speaker 6: was not a third and long one team this.
- 17:42Speaker 7: Year, So I you know, I'm not trying to sit
- 17:44Speaker 7: there and bash the offensive line. But based on the
- 17:47Speaker 7: body of work all year, I would not have run
- 17:49Speaker 7: the ball here because I don't think they'd have picked
- 17:51Speaker 7: it up. They didn't pick it up all year.
- 17:53Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I would have tried to run it in
- 17:55Speaker 5: and set up a throw on fourth down. But again,
- 17:57Speaker 5: this is what everyone does, is you you second guests
- 18:00Speaker 5: to play calling and put your own inside into it.
- 18:02Speaker 5: It doesn't matter. The offensive line didn't do well enough
- 18:05Speaker 5: on either situation. Yeah, it was a problem all season
- 18:09Speaker 5: long with the offensive line, and that was an area
- 18:11Speaker 5: that they thought was going to be a strength this
- 18:13Speaker 5: year and it turned out not to be.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Then, in that final possession, it was supposed to be
- 18:16Speaker 2: a run play, Trevor decided to call zone number go
- 18:18Speaker 2: for that quarterback sneak. That's been so tough for us
- 18:20Speaker 2: to watch the whole season because he's gotten it sometimes,
- 18:23Speaker 2: but he always just looks like he's about to snap
- 18:26Speaker 2: the way he has to reach over the top because
- 18:28Speaker 2: of trying to get there on the quarterback.
- 18:31Speaker 6: But I think instincts took over.
- 18:33Speaker 7: He's made that play multiple times in his career and
- 18:37Speaker 7: it's always worked before this year. On that play, it
- 18:42Speaker 7: looked like Fortner got pushed back.
- 18:44Speaker 5: It didn't look like it did happen.
- 18:46Speaker 7: They were a little further away. Should they have challenged
- 18:51Speaker 7: the spot and gotten closer on the Z play, maybe
- 18:55Speaker 7: you'd also like to think that that half a yard
- 19:00Speaker 7: would not be the key to the whole season. But
- 19:03Speaker 7: they were a team this year that needed so I
- 19:06Speaker 7: way to say it. Uh, they played on an edge
- 19:11Speaker 7: because they weren't good enough to be up in that situation.
- 19:16Speaker 7: If foind me margin Ferrero was very small, I guess
- 19:18Speaker 7: is what I'm getting at. And that bit him right
- 19:20Speaker 7: there well.
- 19:21Speaker 5: And to defend Trevor on that situation too, he had
- 19:24Speaker 5: no idea of knowing that his center was going to
- 19:26Speaker 5: get blown up like that. None. I mean the center
- 19:28Speaker 5: was thrown backwards three yards onto his back and that
- 19:32Speaker 5: ran into through through was thrown into Trevor trying to
- 19:35Speaker 5: forward progress. If the center just told his own Trevor
- 19:38Speaker 5: probably gets the touchdown.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Probably a lot of things we're saying, you know, Wednesday
- 19:43Speaker 2: morning quarterbacking for us. I guess we're stay with us
- 19:46Speaker 2: here on jack Zon. We're gonna do some hot takes
- 19:48Speaker 2: when we come back after the break. Move the freight,
- 19:57Speaker 2: moved the freight. Magellan Transport voted the coolest office space
- 19:59Speaker 2: in Jackson and Bill. You can apply online at www

- 20:15Speaker 8: This team, you know, will not be the same. This
- 20:17Speaker 8: is the last song the DNA, this locker room will
- 20:19Speaker 8: will be together. So we understand the nature of the business.
- 20:23Speaker 8: All I know is is this feeling. The leaders of
- 20:25Speaker 8: this team, the guys that are here, you know, this
- 20:28Speaker 8: is part of our story. Uh and we can either
- 20:30Speaker 8: you know, be victims of it or uh, you know,
- 20:33Speaker 8: find a way to you know, neg it a part
- 20:38Speaker 8: of our our return, negative magat a part of our.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Response, and an ingram past game.
- 20:44Speaker 2: He's certainly been through some situations in his career before
- 20:47Speaker 2: he got here, so he understands that kind of adversity,
- 20:49Speaker 2: and you know what, he's been able to come here
- 20:51Speaker 2: and do and build from. I think that's an important
- 20:54Speaker 2: point to make because there's a lot of people that
- 20:56Speaker 2: can be broken by things like this or collapses and
- 20:59Speaker 2: just never kind of figuring it out. And obviously, if
- 21:02Speaker 2: you're gonna be successful, you want to be championship caliber team,
- 21:04Speaker 2: you're gonna have to use that as your motivation going forward.
- 21:07Speaker 5: They need players to stand up and say that to
- 21:09Speaker 5: each other. And he's one of the important voices in
- 21:11Speaker 5: that locker room. When you have one hundred and fourteen
- 21:13Speaker 5: catches and you approach the all time record for receptions
- 21:17Speaker 5: by a tight end in the season, you have the credibility. Right.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Players can talk all they want, but only players who
- 21:23Speaker 5: produce on the field really get listened to. He's one
- 21:26Speaker 5: of those guys, and I expect he'll be one that
- 21:27Speaker 5: has to be going forward.
- 21:28Speaker 7: Yeah, he's emerged as a leader. Christian's mergered the leader.
- 21:31Speaker 7: These guys they know how to do it. They say
- 21:33Speaker 7: the right things, and it's a year to year league.
- 21:36Speaker 7: We saw a couple of years ago from three to fourteen.
- 21:39Speaker 7: Was it tonight? I hate in the playoffs Jared's went
- 21:41Speaker 7: nine to eight. It's not like they can't, you know,
- 21:44Speaker 7: you improve two games on that. You're in the playoffs
- 21:47Speaker 7: and in the mix. It's not like it's a lost cause.
- 21:50Speaker 7: But they gotta get stuff faced.
- 21:52Speaker 1: All right.
- 21:53Speaker 2: We got some hot takes or from a little bit
- 21:54Speaker 2: earlier in the week, but I think they mostly still apply.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they do. So I'll go with the
- 21:59Speaker 5: Jaguars have to walk up fine line, and Doug didn't
- 22:02Speaker 5: by throwing everybody out on the defensive side. I'd get that.
- 22:05Speaker 5: But here' where you gotta be careful. And Doug did
- 22:07Speaker 5: allude to this in his press conference on Monday. You
- 22:09Speaker 5: have to learn the lessons from it. You have to
- 22:10Speaker 5: be mindful of what just happened, but you also have
- 22:13Speaker 5: to be future focused. You can't be dialed in and
- 22:16Speaker 5: let that kill you next year too. The Colts came
- 22:18Speaker 5: down here at the end of the twenty twenty one
- 22:20Speaker 5: season and they just needed to beat the Jaguars, who
- 22:22Speaker 5: were playing with an interim head coach and a rookie
- 22:25Speaker 5: quarterback to make the playoffs. And we talked about this
- 22:28Speaker 5: last week. We used this example of what was possible,
- 22:31Speaker 5: and they lost, and they went back to Indianapolis, and
- 22:35Speaker 5: you know, there a franchise and John can testify to
- 22:38Speaker 5: this that generally is not ever really a mess, right.
- 22:41Speaker 5: I mean, they do things the right way. But they
- 22:44Speaker 5: painted the score of that game on the locker room
- 22:47Speaker 5: wall as you walked in for everybody to see, and
- 22:50Speaker 5: they didn't handle it the right way. They started with
- 22:53Speaker 5: a tie against the Texans. They got shut out here
- 22:55Speaker 5: and they started three to five and one, and they
- 22:57Speaker 5: fired Frank Reich and they hired Jeff Saturday off of
- 23:00Speaker 5: a set somewhere in Bristol, Connecticut, and a franchise that
- 23:04Speaker 5: had always done things seemingly the right way was all
- 23:07Speaker 5: of a sudden in a tail spin. Now they cleaned
- 23:09Speaker 5: it out and they fixed it a year later. But
- 23:10Speaker 5: the point is you gotta be careful. You can't just
- 23:14Speaker 5: knee jerk react. And I'm not saying that's what Doug did,
- 23:16Speaker 5: but you've got to be very methodical in how you
- 23:19Speaker 5: use this otherwise if you don't, it can cost you
- 23:23Speaker 5: next year too.
- 23:24Speaker 7: I think the Colts, my impression was that they kind
- 23:27Speaker 7: of thought that that one game was a slip up
- 23:30Speaker 7: and that they were really, really close. I think the
- 23:33Speaker 7: Jaguars can avoid getting into that mindset, Brian, because they
- 23:39Speaker 7: lost five of six. So I think the actions of
- 23:43Speaker 7: Doug on Monday certainly showed, hey, we need to change.
- 23:48Speaker 7: We can't just come back and worry about beating this
- 23:50Speaker 7: one team at the end of the season. We've got
- 23:52Speaker 7: to make sure there's some systemic things fixed.
- 23:55Speaker 6: So I don't know if there's things will work, but
- 23:57Speaker 6: I think his approach on that front is probably right.
- 24:00Speaker 5: But you have to turn over every stone and you
- 24:02Speaker 5: have to figure things out. You got to know why
- 24:03Speaker 5: your team didn't play well in big games, And he
- 24:06Speaker 5: said he knew what the whys were. But you can't
- 24:08Speaker 5: just take it for granted, and you can't just keep
- 24:10Speaker 5: throwing it back in player spaces with the score painted
- 24:13Speaker 5: inside the locker room as they walked in every day.
- 24:17Speaker 5: There's a fine. This is what coaches are paid for.
- 24:19Speaker 5: This is why NFL head coaches are highly paid. This
- 24:22Speaker 5: is his job to figure out very.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Fine line because, as you'd say, if they make the playoffs,
- 24:26Speaker 2: probably a completely different situation with him right now, on
- 24:29Speaker 2: no doubt, John, what's your hot take for us?
- 24:31Speaker 7: Well, I want to read because Dane else is a sent. Yeah,
- 24:35Speaker 7: I don't know how to explain it. And Sunday night,
- 24:39Speaker 7: when I think about this game, I kept thinking, you know,
- 24:42Speaker 7: five of the last six, no way to expect this
- 24:44Speaker 7: to happen. I thought it was a mature team at
- 24:46Speaker 7: eight and three. I thought this is a mature team,
- 24:48Speaker 7: that maybe it wasn't a great team, but that would
- 24:51Speaker 7: win the games down the stretch that it was supposed
- 24:54Speaker 7: to win and get in. I never thought they were
- 24:57Speaker 7: the number one seed. I never thought they were going
- 24:58Speaker 7: to the Super Bowl and I thought they were. I
- 25:00Speaker 7: thought they could. And I guess maybe Doug explained it
- 25:03Speaker 7: a little bit on Monday when he talked about never
- 25:08Speaker 7: really being able to figure out why this team didn't
- 25:14Speaker 7: capture every moment. I don't know if that's the right
- 25:15Speaker 7: way to say it, but he talked about, you know,
- 25:18Speaker 7: I told these guys week two, week three, every moment matters,
- 25:22Speaker 7: and you could tell from the way he talked he
- 25:25Speaker 7: didn't think that they really grasped that. So I mean
- 25:28Speaker 7: that's what it was. I mean, that's a little out there.
- 25:32Speaker 7: It's there's not really a good thing to tweet about
- 25:35Speaker 7: that statement, you know, but I think it's in there
- 25:38Speaker 7: somewhere that they just didn't fully grasp each moment, each
- 25:43Speaker 7: game's importance, and play with the urgency and every moment
- 25:47Speaker 7: that they should have.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Well.
- 25:47Speaker 5: I worried about them after they came off the bye
- 25:50Speaker 5: week and got blown out by San Francisco thirty forty three.
- 25:55Speaker 5: But then they righted the ship right and they won
- 25:57Speaker 5: those division games that they needed to win. Oh, they're
- 26:00Speaker 5: eight and three, and you feel better about them, and
- 26:02Speaker 5: then the defense comes out against a backup quarterback and
- 26:06Speaker 5: they were shredded that night, mcmannus misses the kick and
- 26:09Speaker 5: the quarterback gets hurt and then it just sort of
- 26:11Speaker 5: slides all the way down hill from there. So obviously
- 26:15Speaker 5: they just weren't mature enough, good enough when they needed.
- 26:19Speaker 2: To be this year, mine's a little bit of my
- 26:23Speaker 2: hot tach has already come true, but I'm gonna double
- 26:25Speaker 2: down on a little bit. This collapse must inspire some change. Obviously,
- 26:28Speaker 2: we've seen a lot of change in the coaching staff already.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I don't advocate for people getting fired all the time,
- 26:32Speaker 2: but something needs to change here. And that's not just
- 26:35Speaker 2: coaching staff. That's players as well, because coaching staff can.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Do a lot.
- 26:38Speaker 2: I think scheme can do a lot all of that,
- 26:40Speaker 2: but players are the ones out in the field and
- 26:41Speaker 2: they need to be making that stuff happen. All we
- 26:44Speaker 2: heard all season long was there was no execution. And
- 26:46Speaker 2: at a certain point, for me, if I've heard that
- 26:48Speaker 2: five six times, maybe they can't execute it. Maybe the
- 26:52Speaker 2: players you have can't execute what you're trying to do.
- 26:54Speaker 2: So if that means you have to add to this team,
- 26:56Speaker 2: and then for me personally with the players, I need
- 26:59Speaker 2: a little bit of a mental shift. We're seeing some
- 27:01Speaker 2: of it from you know, Christian Kirk and ev Evan Ingram.
- 27:04Speaker 2: I think a little bit of their post game you know,
- 27:06Speaker 2: what we heard from them is frustration because it's like, hey,
- 27:09Speaker 2: I'm out here bussing my butt and I know what
- 27:12Speaker 2: a bad situation is. I came here and I wanted
- 27:14Speaker 2: it to be better. And I think there's a decent
- 27:16Speaker 2: amount of it that. You know, maybe it's young players,
- 27:18Speaker 2: maybe it's just a mentality of you know, they're happy
- 27:22Speaker 2: where they're at, but it's it's that not hating losing, right,
- 27:24Speaker 2: we talked about Mike Frable's pissed. He doesn't wanna lose.
- 27:27Speaker 2: He's that kind of player, that kind of coach, and
- 27:29Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of if we lose h
- 27:32Speaker 2: And then when it started to stack up, then people
- 27:34Speaker 2: were like wait, wait, wait, and it's like if you
- 27:36Speaker 2: don't hate it the first time, then it's kind of
- 27:38Speaker 2: becomes okay. And that's when it's five of six and
- 27:41Speaker 2: then you're like, oh wait, how did this happen? So
- 27:43Speaker 2: for me, it was a little bit of a I
- 27:46Speaker 2: want to see change in terms of whether that's just
- 27:48Speaker 2: the people that are already here having a mentality change,
- 27:51Speaker 2: or if it's new people being brought in to change
- 27:53Speaker 2: that kind of culture a little bit, because there's a
- 27:55Speaker 2: great culture in the terms they don't there aren't individual
- 27:57Speaker 2: players like only caring about numbers, but they also need
- 28:00Speaker 2: to really be focused on wanting to be a championship
- 28:03Speaker 2: team and wanting to win more so than just like
- 28:06Speaker 2: kind of be okay, be happy to be there.
- 28:08Speaker 7: I think, well, I think Travis et is gonna be
- 28:10Speaker 7: an interesting person to watch next year. On this front,
- 28:13Speaker 7: Travis has a really good feel that he's not gonna
- 28:17Speaker 7: play in this league forever.
- 28:18Speaker 6: He's a running back.
- 28:19Speaker 7: He's very well aware that he has a limited amount
- 28:23Speaker 7: of time to be good and it matters to him
- 28:25Speaker 7: a great deal. And he said it at his locker
- 28:28Speaker 7: on Monday.
- 28:30Speaker 6: That there's only a few years you get.
- 28:34Speaker 7: And I'm paraphrasing that very well, but it's just was
- 28:37Speaker 7: there's only a few years you get at this thing.
- 28:39Speaker 7: And there was an overriding fear among the.
- 28:41Speaker 6: Leaders who really.
- 28:44Speaker 7: Who you feel like ought to be your core Evan Christian,
- 28:49Speaker 7: even Josh, even Travis.
- 28:53Speaker 6: They wasted one this year.
- 28:54Speaker 7: And Cisco said it on Sunday, they're going to look
- 28:56Speaker 7: back on this one and realize someday how hard it
- 29:00Speaker 7: is to get there. It was right there and they
- 29:02Speaker 7: gave one away. Travis talked about being more of a
- 29:05Speaker 7: leader next year. My guess is, you know, the guys
- 29:09Speaker 7: around him are gonna realize the urgency next year.
- 29:11Speaker 5: So well, maybe that's what it takes. Maybe that's what
- 29:13Speaker 5: it takes for them to show up in the big
- 29:15Speaker 5: games right like they did a year ago when they
- 29:18Speaker 5: were the Hunter and not the Hunt did. But this
- 29:21Speaker 5: year in the big games, they didn't. They weren't ready
- 29:25Speaker 5: to play.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Here.
- 29:26Speaker 5: You talk about change. Here's what I want to make sure,
- 29:29Speaker 5: if I'm Doug, is that we don't fool ourselves, if
- 29:32Speaker 5: we don't turn the tape on and go, well, this
- 29:33Speaker 5: player can get stronger and this player can play better here,
- 29:36Speaker 5: and we can do this. I mean, you got to
- 29:38Speaker 5: take a really honest look at the personnel and say,
- 29:42Speaker 5: can this guy get the job done? Do we have
- 29:44Speaker 5: the right guy? And I you know, on the offensive line,
- 29:48Speaker 5: it's a great draft for offensive line. You better go
- 29:50Speaker 5: get some and not fool yourself and think, hey, we
- 29:52Speaker 5: were okay, we only give so many sacks.
- 29:54Speaker 1: We had injuries.
- 29:55Speaker 5: I mean, that's an area a drum that I'm gonna
- 29:57Speaker 5: beat all off season long. You have got to fix
- 30:00Speaker 5: the offensive line because you have a franchise quarterback. Your
- 30:03Speaker 5: quarterback had a left knee, a right ankle, a right shoulder,
- 30:07Speaker 5: even though that wasn't the offensive line's fault because he
- 30:09Speaker 5: was scrambling outside the pocket, but got the concussion as well.
- 30:13Speaker 5: You gotta protect the quarterback. Just like the Bengals a
- 30:16Speaker 5: few years ago made a big push to shore up
- 30:19Speaker 5: the offensive line in front of Joe Burrow. You must
- 30:22Speaker 5: take care of the offensive line this year in the
- 30:25Speaker 5: off season to keep Trevor Lawrence where he needs to be.
- 30:28Speaker 1: Stay with us here on jag Zam.
- 30:29Speaker 2: We'll talk a little bit about what we've got going

- 30:54Speaker 2: Scholar Athlete of the Week, Kyle Brown. Kyle is a
- 30:56Speaker 2: proven academic excellence, dedication to the community, and he demonstrated
- 31:00Speaker 2: leadership as well. The Bright Future Scholarship program is primarily
- 31:04Speaker 2: funded by the Florida Lottery, assisting students in pursuing post
- 31:07Speaker 2: secondary education and career goals.
- 31:10Speaker 1: So congrats to Kyle.
- 31:14Speaker 2: All Right, Well, I'm off season now, a little sooner
- 31:16Speaker 2: than we expected, are hoped for, I suppose, but there
- 31:19Speaker 2: are some things to look forward to. Obviously, we'll take
- 31:22Speaker 2: a little bit of a mental break and then we'll
- 31:24Speaker 2: kind of get into draft mode.
- 31:26Speaker 5: But we'll get some storyliness to follow that we certainly do.
- 31:29Speaker 5: You're gonna have to replace the defensive coordinator in the
- 31:31Speaker 5: entire defensive staff. That'll be a big.
- 31:33Speaker 7: One to follow, I will be yes, it will Josh
- 31:36Speaker 7: Allen's contract, Allen's contract.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Uh, Calvin's contract.
- 31:41Speaker 7: Calvin's contract, the third year guys, Trevor Lawrence's contract, which
- 31:45Speaker 7: I'm not sure where that goes now, So we'll see.
- 31:48Speaker 5: You know, there's if there, if you're if you're really
- 31:50Speaker 5: searching for a silver lining in this, how the Jaguars
- 31:53Speaker 5: can find some way to look at this. If you'd
- 31:56Speaker 5: come out of this season and you'd like to come
- 31:58Speaker 5: out of the season having to pay everybody, but all
- 32:00Speaker 5: of a sudden, you don't right you're gonna pay Josh
- 32:04Speaker 5: and you're maybe gonna pay Calvin Ridley, but you don't
- 32:08Speaker 5: have to rush on Trevor at this point in time, right,
- 32:10Speaker 5: I mean, you don't have to figure out Cisco or
- 32:13Speaker 5: Tyson Campbell. You can let that play out a little
- 32:16Speaker 5: bit because I don't think I would pay them yet. So,
- 32:20Speaker 5: you know, the salary cap and free agency and the
- 32:23Speaker 5: draft are gonna be big stories for this team this year.
- 32:26Speaker 5: They always are big stories, but this year in particular
- 32:28Speaker 5: because of Trevor's contract and going forward into twenty twenty five.
- 32:32Speaker 2: All right, join us tomorrow on Jags Am as we'll
- 32:34Speaker 2: go over some of those coaching changes and also that
- 32:37Speaker 2: list of free agents that are coming up for this
- 32:38Speaker 2: team as we look ahead to the off season.
