Transcript
- 0:00Welcome, welcome, it is a Friday night
- 0:03and you are in the right place
- 0:04because you will probably have a drink in your hand.
- 0:06You're probably getting ready to watch the finals game too,
- 0:08which we are gonna be opening up and talking about.
- 0:10And you're joining your friends, Tanya and Cody.
- 0:13Welcome to The Regulars, I'm Cody Decker.
- 0:15I'm Tanya Ray Fox and I'm not the one
- 0:17who screwed up the intro with my loud phone.
- 0:20Really, did that actually make that in?
- 0:22Mocha, did that sound actually get in there?
- 0:24Oh!
- 0:26Suck it, Tanya, suck it, Tanya.
- 0:29That's all on Mocha though, that's Mocha being a pro.
- 0:32Yes, good job, Mocha, you solved all of my problems
- 0:35and I appreciate it as always.
- 0:36Guys, we got a lot to cover today.
- 0:38Tanya, we missed out on another week.
- 0:40I look very forward to today's catch-up corner
- 0:43where we can find out some things
- 0:44about what you got to experience recently
- 0:46and congratulations on all of that and your success.
- 0:49I'd love to tell you all the new things
- 0:51that I had to deal with this week in awesome fashion
- 0:53because I had a great week on The Fan in LA.
- 0:56And the sports world, as you know,
- 0:59since the last time I was here with you,
- 1:01everything was great.
- 1:03Nothing was wrong, as was the theme of the show.
- 1:05Since then, everything has gone absolutely kablooey.
- 1:08Everything's wrong and we are, we're cooked.
- 1:11We're cooked.
- 1:12Everything's made up and the points don't matter.
- 1:13We're cooked.
- 1:14Yeah, we're cooked as hell.
- 1:15By the way, just a side note,
- 1:16have you heard USA's chant for the World Cup?
- 1:20No.
- 1:21We're cooked.
- 1:22Paraguay's gonna win by fucking 50.
- 1:24Like we debuted an actual chant
- 1:26for the crowd.
- 1:27What is it?
- 1:29What is it?
- 1:31I got, I'll find it and play it on my phone
- 1:33so you can hear it.
- 1:34Oh, are you talking, is it like a song?
- 1:35Oh, it's a song that the American fans
- 1:38have made for us to score goals.
- 1:40I now don't want us to score goals,
- 1:42so I do not hear this song.
- 1:44So the World Cup's coming, but USA is not.
- 1:48We are in dire straits in the soccer world.
- 1:50To be fair, I'm not 100%.
- 1:52I can't remember if we would've made this World Cup or not
- 1:54if we weren't hosting.
- 1:55If we weren't hosting.
- 1:56I don't think we could.
- 1:57We are not good, so also.
- 1:59We got Pulisic, what are you talking about?
- 2:00He's scored one goal in the last seven months.
- 2:02Yeah, all right, he was supposed to be
- 2:03the next Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey,
- 2:05and here we are.
- 2:05We've got neither Landon nor Clint,
- 2:07nor Tim, Tim Dom, Tim, who's,
- 2:10I almost said Tim Thomas.
- 2:12Who's Tim Thomas?
- 2:13No, that's the Bruins goaltender.
- 2:16I was about to say.
- 2:17I, yeah, I got nothing for you.
- 2:19Listen.
- 2:20By the way, your voice sounds phenomenal.
- 2:22I'm so sorry about this, guys.
- 2:24I'm not sick this time.
- 2:25I'm not sick this time.
- 2:26This is just me spending three and a half days
- 2:30talking to hundreds of people all day long
- 2:32and then going out all night
- 2:33and only sleeping four hours a night,
- 2:36but we're gonna talk about why that was later on.
- 2:37I'm gonna spill the tea about influencers,
- 2:40what it was like being at a content creator space,
- 2:42and being on Capitol Hill.
- 2:44Can I just point out, five minutes ago,
- 2:46you sounded like you.
- 2:47What has happened in the last five minutes?
- 2:49Before this show started, you were Tanya.
- 2:51It was like, yeah, I'm a little hoarse,
- 2:52but everything's great.
- 2:53Everything's awesome.
- 2:54This show's starting.
- 2:55You sound like Roseanne Barr now.
- 2:56I really don't know.
- 2:57I think it might be the volume at which I'm speaking.
- 3:00I'm trying to speak as loud as you are.
- 3:02You don't need to.
- 3:03There's a microphone.
- 3:04You can speak very, very, here.
- 3:05We can have a quieter show.
- 3:06Okay, here we go.
- 3:07All right.
- 3:07How does it sound?
- 3:08We can go ahead and just get right into the sports.
- 3:10Yeah.
- 3:11Let's do it.
- 3:11Headline number one, Tanya.
- 3:13Well, we're obviously gonna be entering
- 3:16into game two of the NBA Finals during this show.
- 3:19Sure are.
- 3:20In a couple, I think in like 25 minutes,
- 3:22but we have game one under our belt.
- 3:24We know what that looked like,
- 3:25and it was the Knicks nixing their asses off.
- 3:30In the fourth quarter, yeah.
- 3:31Captain Club showed up again.
- 3:32By the way, I wanna make this abundantly clear.
- 3:34He did not have a good first half,
- 3:36although injury scares came out of the game a little early,
- 3:39but I thought the Knicks showed plenty of rust
- 3:42in that first half,
- 3:42and like you said,
- 3:43Knicks did what the Knicks do in the fourth quarter.
- 3:45The power of friendship.
- 3:46Oh my God, it was a nice one.
- 3:47They're winning games with the power of friendship,
- 3:49and you love to see it.
- 3:51I do think that, so when we were talking about this,
- 3:53the general consensus, as we were talking about it,
- 3:56was whoever wins, Thunder or Spurs,
- 4:00they're gonna be the favorites going into the Finals.
- 4:01And they were.
- 4:02They were the favorites.
- 4:03Absolutely what happened.
- 4:04And then the thing that we were also talking about,
- 4:07which is, but if the Knicks do their thing,
- 4:10if they're still, if they're not coming off of the rest,
- 4:15if they're not rusty,
- 4:16the Knicks can, they've proven
- 4:18that they can just beat anybody
- 4:21at whatever game they are playing at any point in time.
- 4:24Now, I didn't get to watch the first half of the game.
- 4:26I was watching the second half on the plane
- 4:29when I was finally able to get it up.
- 4:30And I saw, I think within the first like three minutes
- 4:36of watching, like three Josh Hart steals.
- 4:38Yeah, he was amazing.
- 4:39It was, and then obviously Jalen Brunson kicks in
- 4:41and starts doing what he's doing.
- 4:43Kat is, everybody was doing the thing
- 4:45they were supposed to be doing at the very elite,
- 4:47at the best level.
- 4:47OG and OB had a great night.
- 4:49Like it was all hands on deck really,
- 4:51especially that fourth quarter,
- 4:52especially coming back 17 down to the third.
- 4:54And the thing is Cody,
- 4:55for that to be the way that they played in San Antonio.
- 4:58Yeah, it was very impressive.
- 4:59This was not at MSG because I think we all agreed
- 5:01that like this team's probably gonna win
- 5:03at least a game at Madison Square Garden.
- 5:06That seemed sort of inevitable.
- 5:08They're riding too much of a high.
- 5:09Real quick.
- 5:10The name you were looking for earlier was Tim Howard.
- 5:11Tim Howard.
- 5:12Yeah.
- 5:14And I wanna make it really clear.
- 5:17Thank you, Neil Scar.
- 5:18Thank you, Neil.
- 5:19Oh, that's me.
- 5:20That's my guy.
- 5:21Oh, Neil, thank you.
- 5:21Thank you, we needed you.
- 5:22Thank you, Neil.
- 5:23Also, Tim Howard is by far the greatest American player,
- 5:29soccer player for men.
- 5:30Like if you had to rank them,
- 5:32like he comes in above everybody else.
- 5:34So for me to forget his name, not great,
- 5:37but I can now shout out the fact that like to me,
- 5:40he's the goat of American soccer.
- 5:41I'm sure he will be happy to hear that.
- 5:43Yeah, I'm sure he's gonna be incredibly relieved.
- 5:46To be fair, I do this all the time.
- 5:47I call him Tim Thomas all the time.
- 5:49It's insane.
- 5:50I call him Jonathan Taylor Thomas all the time.
- 5:51Sure, of course.
- 5:52JTT.
- 5:54But yeah, so I thought the Knicks would,
- 5:56I really did not see them pulling out a game
- 5:59in the first two.
- 6:00And so now I am convinced they're winning the finals.
- 6:01Okay, I like it.
- 6:02I think we're going seven.
- 6:03I do think that this has to be a good series.
- 6:05The Spurs are way too good for this to-
- 6:08So here's my take on it.
- 6:10I've been very, very lucky these last few weeks,
- 6:13obviously being surrounded by one Derrick Fisher
- 6:14and being able to talk the NBA finals
- 6:16with a guy that's got five rings.
- 6:17That's pretty killer.
- 6:18But like the aspect about the Spurs
- 6:22that I really, really grew to really appreciate,
- 6:24especially in that seven game series against Oklahoma City.
- 6:26And I think we can agree,
- 6:27forget about how the Knicks are playing right now,
- 6:28but can we can agree that Oklahoma City
- 6:30is a better team than the Knicks, correct?
- 6:31Yes.
- 6:32Okay, and I think by a fairly decent margin.
- 6:34Watching that matchup, it was very clear
- 6:37that even like defensively, how good the Thunder played.
- 6:40The Knicks have to do a very specific thing to win games.
- 6:43The Thunder are a very-
- 6:45A machine.
- 6:46And the one thing that in my eyes,
- 6:47in my view really was the equalizer was Victor Wiminyama.
- 6:50When he goes off, he goes off and you can't stop it.
- 6:52Nothing can stop it.
- 6:53And what I noticed about that series that really impressed me
- 6:56which I didn't think,
- 6:57because I thought Oklahoma City was gonna win game seven.
- 6:58I wanted it to be the Spurs,
- 7:00but I thought it was gonna be Oklahoma City.
- 7:02But every single time that happened,
- 7:03every time I thought Oklahoma City
- 7:05got their shit together,
- 7:07every time it looked like they had their thing together,
- 7:08oh, they stopped Wemby.
- 7:10They figured out Wemby.
- 7:11That was the narrative every single time Oklahoma City won.
- 7:16Then the Spurs made some sort of adjustment.
- 7:18They made an adjustment and they fixed the problem.
- 7:20And then it was like watching a game of chess.
- 7:22Both teams were just adjusting
- 7:24what worked in the previous game.
- 7:25That's why we're getting this back and forth.
- 7:26And it felt like that montage in Rocky IV
- 7:28where Rocky's hitting directly in the face
- 7:30and Drago's getting hit directly in the face.
- 7:32And it was like poetry to watch.
- 7:35I feel like we're gonna get something
- 7:36very similar in this series.
- 7:38I think we have two very, very talented teams.
- 7:40And I think that the Spurs are gonna go ahead
- 7:41and make an adjustment tonight, get a victory.
- 7:43Granted, I think they need to get themselves
- 7:45one hell of a cushion,
- 7:46because as we've seen with this Knicks team,
- 7:48no cushion is safe.
- 7:4922 points in the last series, 17 in this series,
- 7:53already in game one on the road.
- 7:55I don't know what else to say other than,
- 7:57yeah, you ain't wrong, but I'm still leaning Spurs.
- 8:01And I think we're going seven in this bad boy,
- 8:03at least, you know what?
- 8:04If nothing else, I hope we're going seven in the series.
- 8:07I want nothing more than seven games of these two teams.
- 8:10I like these teams so much.
- 8:12I was so happy when the Spurs won.
- 8:14The way that they won too, it was really interesting
- 8:17because the way they won was by the end of that game,
- 8:20seven against the Thunder, they were minutes managing,
- 8:23or they were managing Wemby
- 8:24because he was in foul trouble.
- 8:26They needed that Champagne, Champagne,
- 8:29I always forget how to say his name.
- 8:30I always just say Champagne.
- 8:32Champagne.
- 8:33He was hitting like every shot he was taking.
- 8:36It's always something like that, right?
- 8:38That's going to put you over the top
- 8:39against a really elite team.
- 8:41And then obviously the way that they're going to win
- 8:43against the Knicks might be different,
- 8:44but every single one of those kids is,
- 8:47first of all, the team is incredibly young.
- 8:48They have so much energy.
- 8:49They don't tire out.
- 8:50And defensively, when they're zoned,
- 8:52when that defense starts working,
- 8:54it's basically impossible.
- 8:56You can force timeouts to be used.
- 8:57You can force certain things to happen.
- 8:59The best part about the Knicks
- 9:00is that they don't give a fuck.
- 9:02And they have Mike Brown.
- 9:03And so their ability to adjust to that
- 9:05is really interesting as well.
- 9:06I think Mike Brown's a better head coach than Mark Daniel.
- 9:10But you've heard what my issue is.
- 9:11My issue has nothing to do with this team.
- 9:12I think these two teams are perfect.
- 9:13No, I know.
- 9:14Listen, you're not the only person
- 9:16to be complaining about Knicks fans.
- 9:18Again, I like the whole vibe that the Knicks fans have going.
- 9:21Now granted, yes, the whole like you guys wouldn't get it.
- 9:24Everybody gets it.
- 9:26Everybody gets being a fan of a team
- 9:28that hasn't won in a long time, of course.
- 9:30But I will say, have you seen them trolling Elmo?
- 9:33No.
- 9:34Okay, this is pretty funny.
- 9:35I'm listening.
- 9:36You might be able to sway me.
- 9:37I'm listening.
- 9:38Now you got my attention.
- 9:39So Elmo tweeted, I just hope both teams have fun.
- 9:43And Knicks fans were like, bitch, you're from New York.
- 9:47Absolutely not.
- 9:48There are so many tweets of people like trolling Elmo
- 9:53because Sesame Street's in Manhattan.
- 9:57He's a Knicks fan.
- 9:58And so these, I have to send you these tweets.
- 10:00They're really, really good.
- 10:01I'm not disagreeing that these
- 10:03aren't going to be fucking hilarious.
- 10:04They're very funny.
- 10:05They're going to be funny.
- 10:06Yeah.
- 10:07You think that Knicks fans yelling at Elmo
- 10:10is going to get me on their side though?
- 10:12Yeah.
- 10:13I think it'll be funny,
- 10:14but it'll just make me hate them more.
- 10:15No, if it was any other, if it was any other one,
- 10:18anyone else from Sesame Street, I would be upset.
- 10:21Elmo can handle it.
- 10:22Elmo dishes.
- 10:22Okay.
- 10:23Elmo dishes.
- 10:24What does Bert and Ernie think?
- 10:26That's a good question.
- 10:27That's all I care about now.
- 10:28Our gay couple?
- 10:29Yes, our very famously gay couple.
- 10:31Oh, by the way, I thought this was really funny.
- 10:33I know this is a complete sidebar,
- 10:34but you know, the movie He-Man is coming out,
- 10:36which I have no interest in seeing
- 10:37because Jared Leto's in it.
- 10:38Oh yeah.
- 10:39I would see it.
- 10:40I really would go and see this, but Jared Leto's in it.
- 10:42So I'm not going to see it because he is,
- 10:44no, he's just poison.
- 10:45He's a skeleton and I still won't fucking see it.
- 10:49Just cause I know it's him.
- 10:51Oh, is he a skeletal?
- 10:52He's skeletal.
- 10:52I have no interest.
- 10:53Fuck this noise.
- 10:54That being said, I saw a lot of people tweeting out
- 10:56about a lot of shit about a...
- 10:58Oh my God, I can't believe how woke this went.
- 11:01What?
- 11:02He-Man?
- 11:03He-Man?
- 11:04The famously gay char...
- 11:06He-Man is all about...
- 11:08It is like the most...
- 11:09Woke.
- 11:10The most on the nose story about a man who is gay.
- 11:14Yeah.
- 11:15He's wearing a pink...
- 11:16He-Man.
- 11:17Guys, nuance, like it's not even nuanced.
- 11:22I mean...
- 11:23I call this the rage against the machine effect.
- 11:25Oh, it is the rage against the machine effect.
- 11:26And I'm sitting here just going like, holy hell.
- 11:29Holy hell.
- 11:30It's bad.
- 11:30And like, that's when I guess Burt and Ernie
- 11:32made me think about it.
- 11:32But then again, it is He-Man coming out.
- 11:35Again, won't see it.
- 11:36Really busy.
- 11:37Well, I hope we hear from Burt and Ernie,
- 11:38our gay New York couple.
- 11:39That'd be great.
- 11:40I do, I do.
- 11:41I want to see who they're...
- 11:41If Burt and Ernie are rooting for the Knicks,
- 11:42I'm willing to listen.
- 11:43Okay, well then I'm going to do some due diligence
- 11:45and figure it out.
- 11:46I also, before we move on from this,
- 11:47I do want to talk about Jalen Brunson
- 11:49a little bit right now.
- 11:50Because we actually do need to acknowledge this.
- 11:53I specifically need to acknowledge this
- 11:55because I have been a little bit
- 11:57of a Jalen Brunson doubter.
- 11:58Not that I've never thought he...
- 12:00I've always thought he's clearly a star.
- 12:01Is it the short guard thing?
- 12:03I'm against short people.
- 12:03You know how it is.
- 12:04I know, I know.
- 12:05You've always said that.
- 12:06And I, like, it's not that I was ever like,
- 12:08oh, Brunson sucks.
- 12:09I just couldn't quite buy into him
- 12:10as a like starred sort of like,
- 12:13this is the kind of player you need to win a title.
- 12:16He's a star.
- 12:16I'm just, that's just not true.
- 12:18He's a star.
- 12:20He scored 13 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter,
- 12:23including the like five points
- 12:25in the final two minutes, right?
- 12:27That increased his clutch points total
- 12:30over the past four years to 144.
- 12:33The next highest player with clutch points
- 12:36is Shea Gildas Alexander with 84.
- 12:39Nikola Jokic has 69.
- 12:41Jason Tatum has 65.
- 12:42These are three people who've won titles, right?
- 12:45These are three of the best players in the league.
- 12:46Two MVPs and another one that's been an MVP contender.
- 12:50And Jalen Brunson is nearly double the next best player.
- 12:54For his career, Brunson has averaged 1.47 points per minute
- 12:58in the clutch on 63.4% true shooting.
- 13:02By comparison, SGA's 0.96 led this past regular season
- 13:08on 66, on 65% true shooting.
- 13:11Like this guy is on another level.
- 13:14And here's the crazy one.
- 13:17He's averaging nine and a half points per fourth quarter
- 13:20during this playoff run.
- 13:21Only five players in the play-by-play era
- 13:24have averaged more fourth quarter points
- 13:26in the conference semifinals or beyond.
- 13:29Then the other ones are Dirk Nowitzki,
- 13:32LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan.
- 13:36So basically what we're saying, he's doing really good.
- 13:38Like those-
- 13:39He's doing really, really good.
- 13:40Those are like four of the best players
- 13:43in the history of the NBA.
- 13:44Yeah, but you're-
- 13:45This is nuts.
- 13:46You're sitting here pointing out
- 13:47the impressive number of Jalen Brunson.
- 13:48And I appreciate that.
- 13:49I appreciate what he's accomplishing right now.
- 13:51I appreciate the numbers and the names
- 13:53that he's being named with.
- 13:55That's not the numbers that impressed me.
- 13:56What's it? Okay.
- 13:57Okay.
- 13:59How many did Yoker have again?
- 14:02For his like, oh, I don't know.
- 14:06I don't know what you're asking me.
- 14:06Yeah, you said the points are-
- 14:07Oh, 69.
- 14:08Nice.
- 14:10You're so stupid.
- 14:11Nice.
- 14:12That was very Gronk of you.
- 14:13Very Gronk of you.
- 14:14Nice.
- 14:16Exactly.
- 14:17Yeah, Jalen Brunson's pretty great too.
- 14:18No, but I mean, I genuinely like,
- 14:22I don't like that we get to a place
- 14:25where we can't appreciate the insanity.
- 14:27And we don't have the kind of conversations
- 14:29around the NBA and around NBA media
- 14:32that could facilitate really understanding
- 14:35what Jalen Brunson is doing.
- 14:36Because we're all so obsessed with Wemby.
- 14:38And that's true.
- 14:39Wemby is an alien.
- 14:40He's going to do the greatest-
- 14:41I will say, I don't think Jalen Brunson
- 14:42has fallen through the cracks here.
- 14:43He is.
- 14:44I mean, this-
- 14:46Everyone is talking about this guy.
- 14:47We should be talking about, so last year,
- 14:48think about how we talked about Tyrese Halliburton
- 14:50last year before he got hurt.
- 14:51We're not talking about Brunson like that nationally.
- 14:54We must be on different forums and places
- 14:57and conversations because we're talking about it
- 15:00even here in LA on our station.
- 15:03But are you talking about it like,
- 15:04wow, Brunson's incredible?
- 15:05Are we talking about-
- 15:06We are always talking about it.
- 15:07This is one of the greatest NBA runs
- 15:08we've ever fucking seen.
- 15:09Oh no, and you can't deny it.
- 15:11We're all just saying, and then he just does what he does.
- 15:15Now we expect Jalen Brunson to do this.
- 15:17Jalen Brunson isn't good.
- 15:18Maybe that's what I'm pushing up against.
- 15:19Jalen Brunson's one of the best in the league
- 15:21and he has been for a couple of years
- 15:23and now he's proving it in the space
- 15:25where all the doubters had it.
- 15:27Now there is no doubt.
- 15:28The doubt is now over.
- 15:30But I feel like-
- 15:30He is that guy.
- 15:31I don't like that we haven't,
- 15:33to your, the point that you're making is exactly right,
- 15:36but it's almost like, but he never got the embracing
- 15:40of like, well, we just know Jalen Brunson does this stuff.
- 15:42He never got-
- 15:44He never got the moment where we all look at this and say,
- 15:48hey, so this is fucking insane.
- 15:50What I want to hear out of someone's mouth
- 15:52is this is one of the greatest playoff performances
- 15:55in the history of the NBA, bar none.
- 15:57Unquestionably.
- 15:58Because that is the reality.
- 15:59That is absolutely the reality.
- 16:00But I gotta say, like, I think the reason
- 16:02the narrative around him is simply this,
- 16:04because he kept getting hurt, getting into this spot.
- 16:06He's never gotten to this spot.
- 16:08Now he's gotten to this spot and he's still doing it.
- 16:11But here's the thing.
- 16:12If he gets hurt tonight, I do not want this.
- 16:14I do not want this.
- 16:15No, no, no, of course.
- 16:16If he gets hurt tonight though, I can't stress enough.
- 16:18The narrative just flips right back
- 16:19that he can't get you all the way to the end.
- 16:21Now it's a stupid, it's stupid.
- 16:22It's absolutely bullshit.
- 16:24But I know how this works and you know how this works
- 16:27and that's what we'll deal with.
- 16:29Which again, utter bullshit.
- 16:31But right now, generational type of playoff run
- 16:35that he's having right now, he's in the finals.
- 16:37He won game one at the end of the fourth quarter
- 16:39the way he did it.
- 16:40The moment he hit that corner three
- 16:42when he finally had a clean look, that was the dagger.
- 16:45And that, by the way, only put them up by what?
- 16:47Two, three points?
- 16:48That was the fucking dagger.
- 16:49They didn't come back off the mat after that shot.
- 16:53Jalen Brunson is absolutely one of the very best in the NBA
- 16:57and I cannot stress this enough.
- 17:00I don't want him to win the finals.
- 17:02I don't want it for Knicks fans.
- 17:03I do, I want to see it.
- 17:06The other thing is like-
- 17:07I will be mad if he does it
- 17:08because I love Jalen Brunson.
- 17:09I love this Knicks team.
- 17:09It's more fun.
- 17:10These guys are great.
- 17:12These guys are awesome.
- 17:12I love a good Spurs fan, don't get me wrong.
- 17:14But like, I want the New York of it all.
- 17:16I want the insanity of it all.
- 17:18I want to hear weirdos on the street
- 17:20saying stuff that is so insufferable.
- 17:22I just want it.
- 17:23But you know what?
- 17:24Either way, one of us will be happy and that's good.
- 17:27All right.
- 17:29This has been the big news of the day.
- 17:31I don't know.
- 17:34What did someone say this time?
- 17:36No, no, no.
- 17:36I'm laughing at what the big news of the day is
- 17:38because I think it's funny
- 17:39because I believe I was on this show with you
- 17:41telling you this is what's going to happen.
- 17:43Yes.
- 17:44This is always what was going to happen.
- 17:46Well, it hasn't quite happened yet,
- 17:47but the Bears Board of Directors has voted
- 17:50to advance on the stadium in Hammond, Indiana,
- 17:54which means that they would be moving
- 17:56the Chicago Bears out of Chicago
- 17:58and into a town across the state line in Indiana.
- 18:02The franchise announced this on Friday
- 18:04that the Board of Directors voted,
- 18:06you know, world-class stadium, blah, blah, blah.
- 18:09Notably, this is the first time the franchise's board
- 18:11has voted on any stadium site.
- 18:13The development comes a few days
- 18:14after the state of Illinois did not pass legislation
- 18:16that would have ensured certainty
- 18:18in the Bears' property tax
- 18:19for the Arlington Heights, Illinois stadium site.
- 18:24Warren has said that he would like the stadium project
- 18:26to be certain by early summer.
- 18:27I'm sure he would.
- 18:28The Chicago mayor has already pushed back
- 18:30saying it's not a done deal.
- 18:31Governor J.B. Pritzker has said
- 18:33the Bears' shifting positions have hindered their progress
- 18:36on trying to keep them in Chicago.
- 18:40You and I talked about this before, that it was stupid.
- 18:42So we don't necessarily have to reiterate
- 18:44the idea of this being stupid.
- 18:45No, I just, can I just say this?
- 18:48This is my take on this.
- 18:50All, every football traditionalist,
- 18:53every one of you that pushes back on a rule
- 18:55or something that needs to be changed
- 18:57or a name changed because of like an old name
- 19:00that might be fucking racist or something,
- 19:02all of you traditionalists,
- 19:04you can't change this because of football history.
- 19:05Yeah, the fucking Bears, due to financials
- 19:08that they are not getting to their liking
- 19:09with billionaire ownership is moving out of fucking Chicago.
- 19:14Shut the fuck up and point at that.
- 19:16Just point at that forever.
- 19:17If you don't point at that forever
- 19:18and go absolutely ape shit about the Bears
- 19:21leaving Chicago for cheaper land in another state,
- 19:26that you honestly should never open your mouth
- 19:29one more time about a team having to change their name,
- 19:32about a team having to change a logo,
- 19:34about pink spikes being done, about Pride Night.
- 19:37You just shut the fuck up about all of it.
- 19:40Every single time, if you think about opening your mouth,
- 19:42slap yourself in the fucking faith
- 19:44and close your fucking mouth.
- 19:46The end.
- 19:46I don't wanna hear it ever again
- 19:48from any of you fake ass traditionalists
- 19:50if you aren't going bat shit insane about this.
- 19:53Have a great night.
- 19:53I really like that you made that point
- 19:56the way that you just did
- 19:57because there's a lot of people that I've seen
- 19:59talking about this as it's like,
- 20:01well, this isn't gonna happen until 20, 30 something.
- 20:04Everybody's freaking out over nothing, blah, blah, blah.
- 20:07I am so tired of people not understanding
- 20:10what these billionaires and what these owners are doing.
- 20:14They are telling their fans
- 20:16that they are going to move out of
- 20:18one of the most historic stadiums in the country
- 20:22to Indiana, moving this historic franchise to another state
- 20:27because they won't pay for their own stadium.
- 20:31I've talked about this on the show again.
- 20:33I'm gonna talk about it on the show again.
- 20:37These billionaires, no matter what they tell you,
- 20:40no matter how poor they are,
- 20:42no matter how team poor they are, right?
- 20:45They're all their money's in the team,
- 20:47that every single one of them can afford to build
- 20:50a billions plus dollar stadium, every single one.
- 20:54They get outside investors, they invest it themselves.
- 20:57They put the money into the stadium,
- 20:59they get the money back
- 21:00because they own a fucking NFL team
- 21:03and they will have it paid off
- 21:05in a matter of fucking couple years.
- 21:08That is what Robert Kraft did.
- 21:10That is what they did with the Meadowlands.
- 21:12That is what they, whatever it's called now.
- 21:15What is it called now?
- 21:16MetLife.
- 21:17MetLife.
- 21:17Yeah.
- 21:18Whatever, right?
- 21:19It's a piece of shit, but yeah.
- 21:20But it's a piece of shit
- 21:22that the fucking people didn't have to pay for.
- 21:25So at least I'll take it.
- 21:26Gillette's not exactly a beautiful spot either,
- 21:28but it's not the worst.
- 21:29So here's the thing.
- 21:31Stop doing, to Cody's point,
- 21:34you guys are so fucking dumb about this
- 21:37and we're constantly in every other facet of the world,
- 21:40every other facet of society talking about
- 21:42what billionaires are doing,
- 21:42what corporations are doing and how they're fucking us.
- 21:44These people can all afford this.
- 21:46You know how when you take out a business loan
- 21:48to start a business,
- 21:49the whole point is that you're gonna make that money back
- 21:51and the loan was fucking worth it, right?
- 21:53That's the whole thing.
- 21:54That's what billionaires can do
- 21:56for goddamn fucking stadiums.
- 21:58They make so much money off your asses
- 22:00and now they're gonna move.
- 22:01There's gonna be, think about this,
- 22:02two NFL stadiums in the state of Indiana.
- 22:08What do you fucking mean?
- 22:09Not in Illinois.
- 22:12Two in Indiana.
- 22:14I don't know what to say.
- 22:16I'm gonna say this again
- 22:17and I'm gonna say it till I'm blue in the face
- 22:18because I say it on every single show I'm on.
- 22:20I said it on this show this week
- 22:22and I even said it to Dee Fish
- 22:23and actually his eyes even lit up
- 22:24because he's like,
- 22:25I've actually never heard it said this way.
- 22:26I'm gonna say it again in case we have a new viewer.
- 22:27I've said this on the show.
- 22:28Oh, my mom loves this.
- 22:29I want you to understand what numbers are.
- 22:32Before you start talking about millionaires,
- 22:34billionaires and trillionaires,
- 22:36just understand what fucking numbers are.
- 22:41Just, and what's the one thing
- 22:42we can all relatively understand?
- 22:46Time.
- 22:46Time is something that is precious to all of us.
- 22:49So I ask again this question
- 22:51to everybody who will listen
- 22:52and I hate that I have to explain this
- 22:54that I would to a child,
- 22:55but truly, if you hear it this way
- 22:57and put it into perspective,
- 22:58you might fucking wake up.
- 23:00How long is one million seconds, Tanya?
- 23:0411.7 days.
- 23:07Exactly 11.7 days.
- 23:10A billion seconds, however, is 31.7 years.
- 23:15Years.
- 23:1811.7 days is a million seconds.
- 23:2231.7 years is a billion seconds.
- 23:26Equate it to money now.
- 23:28And let's look at it this way.
- 23:30Tanya, you have a billion dollars.
- 23:33Me, I have a million dollars.
- 23:36Kids in the class,
- 23:37how much more money does Tanya have than Cody?
- 23:40The answer is a billion fucking dollars.
- 23:45Fuck!
- 23:48God!
- 23:49We're going to be like this
- 23:50every single time this happens.
- 23:52So if this bit doesn't work for you,
- 23:55maybe two dollars on those days.
- 23:55We're going to repeat it on Monday,
- 23:57next Thursday,
- 23:58because we're doing the show next Thursday,
- 24:00the following week.
- 24:01We're going to change the fucking title to this sentence
- 24:04if we have to,
- 24:05till you all fucking get it.
- 24:08A billion dollars is a billion more than a million, gang.
- 24:12I just got nothing.
- 24:13I read a tweet about the CBA
- 24:15and they're like,
- 24:16what are we going to do?
- 24:17Are we going to root for the millionaires
- 24:18or the billionaires?
- 24:20The fucking millionaires, idiot!
- 24:23You wrote for the fucking millionaires!
- 24:25Every time.
- 24:27Every time.
- 24:27It's so easy.
- 24:29Life is really hard.
- 24:31Well, it's hard when you have a brain
- 24:32and you know things.
- 24:34It really is.
- 24:35It's very hard.
- 24:36Now granted,
- 24:38we are beautiful,
- 24:39but that's all we have right now.
- 24:40That's all we got.
- 24:42Let's go to headline number three.
- 24:44Okay.
- 24:45So this is just a little fun side note.
- 24:47A lot of people have been a little confused
- 24:49about what happened with Shador Sanders
- 24:50and his payday from the NFLPA.
- 24:52I thought that was quite a payday.
- 24:54And I didn't really,
- 24:55I'll admit,
- 24:55I don't know the details.
- 24:56Okay.
- 24:57Yeah.
- 24:58So here's why he was paid a record $17.7 million
- 25:03by the NFLPA.
- 25:04So he signed a four-year contract
- 25:06worth about four and a half million dollars
- 25:08after being selected in the fifth round.
- 25:10Now, when he signed this deal,
- 25:15you go into this relationship with the NFLPA
- 25:19and they are going to pay you
- 25:20for certain things that are sold
- 25:22that are part of,
- 25:24attached to your name, right?
- 25:25So this was disclosed from the NFLPA's annual report,
- 25:30which was filed this week with the Department of Labor.
- 25:34And across 13 installments
- 25:36to his limited liability corporation,
- 25:38which is SS2 Legendary,
- 25:41the largest payment was totaled more than 9.2 million.
- 25:44It came from largely cards,
- 25:48playing, what are they?
- 25:49Trading cards.
- 25:50Oh, okay.
- 25:51So trading cards, collectibles, video games,
- 25:54jerseys were not included in this.
- 25:56Fascinating.
- 25:57So his jersey sales were not included in this.
- 25:59The figures reported by the NFLPA
- 26:01do not take into account the individual endorsement deals
- 26:04or anything like that.
- 26:05This is all stuff that's licensing
- 26:07around his NFL persona.
- 26:09And the craziest part about this
- 26:11is the biggest payout of this kind prior to this
- 26:14was Tom Brady making nine and a half million dollars
- 26:16during the 2021, 2022 season,
- 26:18which was his final season in the NFL, I believe.
- 26:21So that is, he has destroyed that.
- 26:26I mean, no one even came,
- 26:27no one's even come close.
- 26:29In recent years, no one's come close
- 26:30for Tom Brady's to be the most at 9.7 or whatever the fuck.
- 26:34That's insane.
- 26:36Here's my takeaway.
- 26:38I'm listening.
- 26:40I think we've talked about this before on the show,
- 26:42but if not, we're talking about it now.
- 26:44Shador Sanders, as much as everybody wants to talk about
- 26:48how there's all the hate train around him in the media
- 26:52and there's the haters on the internet,
- 26:54this is a perfect example of how online discourse
- 26:58does not always translate to the real world ramifications
- 27:03of someone's popularity.
- 27:06Shador Sanders, by this metric,
- 27:08is the most popular NFL player.
- 27:11Interesting.
- 27:12In terms of like what you're able to license
- 27:15through some of this stuff,
- 27:16the most popular rookie player, right?
- 27:18Or person on the specific.
- 27:20So like the reality is there is,
- 27:24what happened by him being drafted in the fifth round
- 27:28was it upped all of the value of anything
- 27:31that would be associated with his name
- 27:33because everybody said,
- 27:35this guy's supposed to be a first round pick.
- 27:37He got drafted in the fifth round.
- 27:39We're basically talking about gambling, right?
- 27:43Well, if this-
- 27:43So they all bought high on him.
- 27:45This rookie card-
- 27:46Or bought low.
- 27:47Right.
- 27:48Could be worth so much money if Shador Sanders,
- 27:51who was passed over in whatever else,
- 27:53is now going to eventually be the starting quarterback.
- 27:56Maybe he makes the playoffs.
- 27:57Maybe he wins a Superbowl someday
- 27:58and I have a Shador Sanders rookie card.
- 28:00Yeah.
- 28:01That's what happened.
- 28:02That's funny.
- 28:04I have actually,
- 28:05I guess I've never really thought about it this way
- 28:07because I was never that guy during the PA
- 28:09when it came to like cards and all that.
- 28:10I got a check that was like collective,
- 28:12but it wasn't like a huge check.
- 28:13You didn't get 17 million?
- 28:14No, it slowed down.
- 28:15Damn.
- 28:16But I got a nice check.
- 28:17It was cool.
- 28:18But I will say the,
- 28:19it is fascinating that people buying into that
- 28:22because I don't even think about the card aspect
- 28:25and the collectibles aspect as almost futures buying.
- 28:29Right.
- 28:30Because it's so passe.
- 28:32Right.
- 28:33Like when I say passe,
- 28:34that was like collectibles was a big thing
- 28:35in the 90s and the 80s.
- 28:37I feel like in the 2000s,
- 28:39it kind of dissipated and it hasn't become.
- 28:41Now, like I always say,
- 28:42whatever's old is always somehow new again.
- 28:45It's funny enough.
- 28:45I just did an interview the other day
- 28:46and they were asking me my thoughts on radio.
- 28:47I'm like, I think radio,
- 28:48especially sports radio is going to have a massive uptick
- 28:50because I think it's something that's old
- 28:52that becomes new again type of thing.
- 28:53Collectibles.
- 28:54Like records.
- 28:55Like records.
- 28:56How vinyl's a thing again.
- 28:57Obviously to a more niche audience,
- 28:58but collectibles, if it's generating this much money,
- 29:01let's be real clear.
- 29:02This is not a niche market.
- 29:04This is a market.
- 29:05Yeah.
- 29:06Well, and that's,
- 29:07but I do think that there is something very specific
- 29:08to Shador Sanders and by what people saw.
- 29:11Fascinating.
- 29:12And what they think can happen.
- 29:13The opportunity they saw there.
- 29:14Because if you look at the next highest being Tom Brady
- 29:17in 2021, 2022.
- 29:18That's wild.
- 29:19That was his final season.
- 29:20It was that season where he had retired
- 29:21and then came back.
- 29:22Right.
- 29:23That's wild.
- 29:24So what everybody did was,
- 29:25oh, this is officially Tom Brady's final season.
- 29:27Now we're buying the cards and the merchandise
- 29:30and all the collectibles.
- 29:32It's the exact same thing they did with him as a rookie.
- 29:35So really fascinating.
- 29:37I love that that's,
- 29:38because that's a crazy ass payday.
- 29:40Like Shador Sanders making that much money
- 29:42off of being in the NFL is on this like
- 29:46very small rookie deal.
- 29:48Iconic.
- 29:49And there's something for,
- 29:51I don't know how young,
- 29:52I don't think we have a ton of super young viewers,
- 29:54but like,
- 29:55I don't think people understand how big of a like personality
- 29:59truly Deion Sanders was in his prime.
- 30:02Prime time as a nickname made the most sense for him
- 30:07over any player that's ever existed.
- 30:09Like he really was exactly that dude
- 30:13that didn't give a fuck
- 30:14and made a lot of money not giving a fuck
- 30:15while a bunch of people told him
- 30:16that he could never be like that.
- 30:18And still, you know,
- 30:19like there was so many people pushing back
- 30:22on his personality at the time.
- 30:24And so it's really crazy to watch Shador do the same thing.
- 30:29Yeah.
- 30:30It's wild.
- 30:30And he's getting paid for it as he should.
- 30:32So there you go.
- 30:33And I'm glad I was able to teach you a little bit
- 30:34about what happened.
- 30:35I appreciate that.
- 30:36You taught me.
- 30:37And now I've learned that the actual commodities market
- 30:40like that is actually a real market.
- 30:42Yeah, absolutely.
- 30:43Never would have thought that.
- 30:44I never thought that market would return.
- 30:47I knew the card thing was kind of making
- 30:49a massive jump again,
- 30:51but I really didn't think about collectibles.
- 30:52I still don't think it's as big as it was,
- 30:55but there's a perfect little cocktail
- 30:57of the, I see this opportunity
- 31:00as this turning into some sort of investment.
- 31:01Honest question.
- 31:02And I would love to see numbers on this
- 31:03because I doubt, you might not know this,
- 31:05but if anyone does, please get in the chat and tell us.
- 31:09Do you think that NFT's absolute embarrassing destruction
- 31:13led to like a resurgence of actual tangible collectibles?
- 31:19I have no numbers on that,
- 31:20but common sense would indicate it, right?
- 31:23That's where my mind is.
- 31:24Yeah, it absolutely does feel
- 31:25like that's something that could have happened
- 31:27Well, not only that, there's the NFT's,
- 31:30there's the fall of Bitcoin and digital coins.
- 31:33So like digital world is like the metaverse didn't take off.
- 31:36It's almost like-
- 31:36People are starting to realize
- 31:38that anything that lives on the internet isn't quite as-
- 31:41It's not as guaranteed as you think.
- 31:43All those movies that are being ripped
- 31:45from the internet for the,
- 31:46like there are a bunch of movies,
- 31:47actual real films that don't exist anywhere anymore.
- 31:50You cannot just find them.
- 31:51You can't pay for them.
- 31:52They don't exist.
- 31:53So people are starting to freak out.
- 31:55I have so many DVDs still
- 31:57and I don't want to get rid of them because I have them
- 32:00and I love them.
- 32:01So I agree.
- 32:03There is something to this.
- 32:05Like you said, records.
- 32:06What's old becomes new again.
- 32:07It's just a weird thing how we always do that circularly.
- 32:10I love this for Shidori.
- 32:11You know how I ride for him.
- 32:12So we love this.
- 32:13I know you do.
- 32:14All right, let's go to headline number four.
- 32:15Let's do a quick little recap
- 32:17because I actually have so much information
- 32:19about both of these subjects.
- 32:20So yeah, I actually, I'll tackle the Garrett trade,
- 32:25but I would love first to hear
- 32:26about where the MLB-CBA contract negotiations are at.
- 32:31I'm sorry, CBA negotiations are at.
- 32:32I will tell you exactly where they are.
- 32:33They haven't actually started.
- 32:35That's the answer.
- 32:36I hate to say this.
- 32:38I do appreciate Major League Baseball's PR stunt
- 32:40in sending that ridiculous cap
- 32:43and floor that they threw that way.
- 32:46Everything about it makes absolutely no sense,
- 32:48just even by the simple metrics of comparing them
- 32:51to the other major sports leagues,
- 32:52considering the fact that the purpose of a cap
- 32:55is to spend 90% of said cap,
- 32:57but you're suggesting we pay 65%.
- 32:59That alone just doesn't make any sense to begin with,
- 33:01not to mention you're not gonna open up your books
- 33:03and actually show how much money is going to be made.
- 33:04So this is all like a clown show to begin with.
- 33:07As far as I can tell,
- 33:09and I did appreciate Bruce Meyer
- 33:10putting out a very strong no to it,
- 33:12especially after things,
- 33:12and he even went as far to say
- 33:13that this is actually an embarrassing start.
- 33:17It's not, so much so that this is the truth.
- 33:20It hasn't started
- 33:21because what the owners proposed was not a proposal.
- 33:25That was a PR stunt.
- 33:26That's it.
- 33:27That was put out into the universe so you all can read it
- 33:29and somehow regurgitate that these owners are cash poor
- 33:34and can't afford players.
- 33:37I'm going to cite this until I die, apparently.
- 33:41The San Diego Padres were sold to the Seidler family
- 33:43in 2012 for $800 million.
- 33:46Peter Seidler sadly passed away a couple of years ago,
- 33:48but in that time, that man put so much into this team.
- 33:52He rebranded it to like the brown and gold again.
- 33:56The city got so behind them, the Chargers left.
- 33:58So he went double down and said,
- 34:01no, Padres are San Diego's team.
- 34:03The end, brought back the brown,
- 34:05stadiums are being sold out,
- 34:06invested money into his team,
- 34:10brought in guys like Eric Cosmer.
- 34:11I'm not saying Eric Cosmer was like the end all be all
- 34:14by any stretch.
- 34:16But he was a huge player on a World Series winning team.
- 34:18He had a rough go in San Diego, but you know what?
- 34:20He was, that was like a statement.
- 34:21The Padres are sending money.
- 34:22I'm like, okay, but if that's all they spend,
- 34:24I think this is going to like, I appreciate it,
- 34:26but what is it going to do?
- 34:27Then they spend Manny Machado.
- 34:28Then they spend, you know, Xander Bogarts.
- 34:31They spend Fernando Tatis Jr.,
- 34:33who was, you know, an MVP candidate at the time.
- 34:34Like, let's be real clear.
- 34:35They invested, they get every major pitcher that's available.
- 34:38If the Dodgers are into a team,
- 34:40so are the goddamn Padres.
- 34:41Like they're heavy hitters and their payroll is up there.
- 34:46Now, is it as high as the Dodgers?
- 34:46No, but it's high.
- 34:47It's in the top.
- 34:48I believe it's in the top 10.
- 34:49I've been thinking six maybe right now.
- 34:51The Padres have been in a force for the last couple of years
- 34:53and they've been a contender for the last couple of years.
- 34:56And after Peter died,
- 34:57the family squabbled over the ownership.
- 34:59So they sold it for $3.9 billion in 12 years.
- 35:06And I want to say that again.
- 35:07I wish anything can be this,
- 35:09you can invest in anything like this,
- 35:11but in 12 years, an $800 million investment
- 35:15turned into 3.9 fucking billion dollars.
- 35:20800 million to 3.9 billion in 12 years.
- 35:27And you're trying to tell me,
- 35:28and by the way, San Diego is a quote unquote,
- 35:31small market team, in case you're wondering.
- 35:33You're telling me that all these owners are poor.
- 35:37I'm sorry, you don't get to claim to be a capitalist
- 35:40and then stop being a capitalist just out of nowhere.
- 35:45Like we can't afford this,
- 35:46then you shouldn't own the team, the end.
- 35:48You can't handle the finances
- 35:51of this billion dollar organization.
- 35:52And during, by the way,
- 35:54the biggest boom in major league baseball of our lifetime.
- 35:58Like we are in the midst
- 36:00of a major league baseball worldwide boom.
- 36:04And you're telling me none of you
- 36:06can afford the player's salary.
- 36:08You're lying.
- 36:09And it's maddening how much you're lying.
- 36:11I think people do forget that like really in our lifetime,
- 36:14the only time that baseball even had a boom
- 36:18was post that CBA when they came back
- 36:23and it was the steroid era into the early 2000s.
- 36:26Like we saw there was decreasing, decreasing ratings
- 36:29and then they boomed a little bit,
- 36:31but it was a short amount of time
- 36:32and it was for an unsustainable reason.
- 36:36It is actually very rare in the last 40 years
- 36:40for us to see things trend up for the MLB.
- 36:43Yeah, and it's trending very up.
- 36:45For MLB, by the way, when I say the MLB,
- 36:47it drives people nuts.
- 36:48Oh, I don't care.
- 36:49I know it drives people nuts.
- 36:50For MLB.
- 36:51Those people need to shut the fuck up.
- 36:52It's annoying.
- 36:53That being said, I have a very similar pet peeve
- 36:55about Cracker Jack because it is singular.
- 36:57It's the name of the brand.
- 36:58It's not the actual.
- 36:59Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack.
- 37:02Yes, you're welcome.
- 37:04Just remember that.
- 37:06I don't mind if I never get back.
- 37:08You're welcome.
- 37:09You're all welcome for this information.
- 37:11Well done.
- 37:12It's Cracker Jack.
- 37:13And I do love Cracker Jack.
- 37:15It is actually quite good.
- 37:16I do, I do.
- 37:17But no, this is just, it's badening.
- 37:18It's badening how many fans fall hook, line
- 37:21and sinker for it.
- 37:22It's very maddening how many people,
- 37:24and the argument that is just the most insane argument
- 37:27that I see all the time.
- 37:28And I hate how often I see this.
- 37:30It's like, well, I want these to be affordable
- 37:32and the players are making so much money
- 37:33is making it unaffordable.
- 37:34Guys, if you think that if we put a salary cap,
- 37:37prices are going to go down, you're nuts.
- 37:40That's insane.
- 37:41You're officially the craziest person I've ever met.
- 37:41Have you checked in on the NFL?
- 37:43Have you checked in just recently, guys?
- 37:45And also, by the way, Donald Trump today came out
- 37:47and said that it should have a salary cap.
- 37:49So if there's ever fucking anything in your life
- 37:52to know that there shouldn't be a salary cap, that's it.
- 37:55That'll do it.
- 37:55I mean, I just got nothing else for you.
- 37:57By the way, I wanted to say that I looked up
- 37:58sort of the leadership for the players on the MLBPA.
- 38:02It looks like it's Marcus Simeon, Chris Bassett,
- 38:05Paul Skeens and Tarek Skubal are on there,
- 38:07which is like pretty wild.
- 38:09Brent Suter.
- 38:10Yes, we're good.
- 38:11Yeah, Pete Fairbanks.
- 38:13Brent Suter's on there, we're good.
- 38:14And Cedric Mullins.
- 38:15Brent Suter's a very smart guy.
- 38:16I'm very happy about that.
- 38:17Good, good, good, good, good.
- 38:19If I had my choice of a big leaguer to be in there,
- 38:22Brent Suter's on that list, no question.
- 38:24Perfect.
- 38:24So we're doing it.
- 38:25I mean, we already have talked about the fact
- 38:27that this PA is pretty exceptional
- 38:29in comparison to the other majors teams.
- 38:32WNBA and then the rest of the men's sports.
- 38:33No, no, Major League Baseball's PA
- 38:34is the strongest PA that there is.
- 38:36And salary cap is a non-starter.
- 38:38It's not a conversation starter.
- 38:40You sending that was a joke.
- 38:41So the players will never agree to it.
- 38:45I advise them to never agree to it.
- 38:47And I need, I think the Players Association
- 38:50doesn't care as much about the PR battle.
- 38:53I do think they should.
- 38:54Right.
- 38:55Because they are not winning the PR battle.
- 38:57Not necessarily losing it either,
- 38:59but we really need to start with education.
- 39:02That's what we need to do.
- 39:03We need to properly educate fans
- 39:05on exactly what we're talking about here.
- 39:07Well, I feel like that's what,
- 39:07and that's, we talk about this all the time.
- 39:10It's like, we have to educate people
- 39:14on billionaires and unions across the board, right?
- 39:20Like it's like, not even just in sports.
- 39:23It's just, that's the wonderful thing about sports
- 39:25is that it's pretty applicable to other industries.
- 39:29When you talk about how do you create worker solidarity
- 39:32against incredibly powerful corporations.
- 39:35That's why we always talk about the fact
- 39:37that sports themselves, you know,
- 39:41are pretty socialist for the billionaires,
- 39:44which is what's so fucking drives us nuts.
- 39:47No, it's only socialist when it's time to be socialist.
- 39:51And that's when they unionize together.
- 39:54It's revenue sharing.
- 39:55It's everybody gets the same amount of money.
- 39:57It's making sure that you're getting subsidized
- 40:00by the fucking state and the places that you're in.
- 40:02Isn't that weird how these really, really big capitalists
- 40:05just really love socialization when it suits them?
- 40:09Yeah, isn't that fucking interesting?
- 40:1131.7 years.
- 40:14That's how many seconds a billion seconds is.
- 40:17Remember, 31.7 years.
- 40:19I am 39.
- 40:21That is most of my life.
- 40:22That is, that's a long time.
- 40:25Your whole life is a billion.
- 40:26Yeah, essentially.
- 40:26Is a billionaire spending a dollar a second.
- 40:29Just fucking, can you guys please think about this?
- 40:32Please, just critically for a second.
- 40:34Now, on the flip side, on my end of things.
- 40:37So this is the one thing I talked about while I was away.
- 40:40I ran up to my room to make a video about-
- 40:44It's nuts.
- 40:45So I'm in the middle of a panel, right?
- 40:46I'm pretty sure there's a governor speaking.
- 40:49And I look at my phone and I see Miles Garrett
- 40:52has been traded to the Rams.
- 40:54And I look over at my friend Ashley next to me
- 40:56and I'm like, what the fuck?
- 40:58And she's like, what the fuck?
- 41:00And I was like, oh my God.
- 41:01He's like, excuse me, governor.
- 41:03Guys, Miles Garrett is now a Ram.
- 41:04By the way, I know.
- 41:05And there's like seven people in the room who care, right?
- 41:08And so that's happening.
- 41:10And by the way, side note,
- 41:12three minutes later I check my Instagram DMs.
- 41:15I've got an Instagram DM just being like complimentary
- 41:18of something that I'd said in my video from Doc Rivers.
- 41:21Hey, what up, Doc?
- 41:22Right, so I'm like, I'm very distracted.
- 41:24So we get out of this panel.
- 41:25I run up to my room and I do a video
- 41:28about the Miles Garrett trade.
- 41:30And the first thing that needs to be said is,
- 41:32well, we'll go over it real quick,
- 41:35but the Cleveland Browns got Jared Verse,
- 41:38a first round pick, a second round pick,
- 41:39and a third round pick.
- 41:40Can we real quick start with Jared Verse is a badass.
- 41:43Jared Verse, so Jared Verse, exceptional player.
- 41:46They got somebody who is only two years into his career,
- 41:49won Rookie Defensive Player of the Year,
- 41:51has been in two Pro Bowls in his two years,
- 41:53absolutely dynamic player.
- 41:54It's the one thing I hope doesn't get lost in this.
- 41:56Like Jared Verse is a fucking monster
- 41:58and everyone here will be really sad to lose.
- 42:00Yes, absolutely.
- 42:02Like it was, it's,
- 42:03you only get rid of Jared Verse for Miles Garrett.
- 42:06Literally, literally that's it.
- 42:08That's really it.
- 42:08Like no one else.
- 42:09So they did that.
- 42:10They gave up a first round, a second round,
- 42:11and a third round.
- 42:12And then they renegotiate, of course,
- 42:16because this is fucking Les Snead.
- 42:18He's unbelievable.
- 42:18Because this is Les Snead.
- 42:19He's unbelievable.
- 42:21They renegotiated his five-year deal so that,
- 42:24they renegotiated, the dude's still getting paid
- 42:26a shit ton of money,
- 42:27but of course the salary cap this year is going to hit
- 42:30and his actual base pay this year is going to be much lower
- 42:32so that they can try to win a goddamn fucking Super Bowl.
- 42:35Also the aspect that,
- 42:36this is also the aspect is, I did ask them,
- 42:39because I had Les Snead on the show this week.
- 42:41Yes, that's right, yes.
- 42:41So in case you don't know, I am.
- 42:43And I, he's my favorite NFL GM.
- 42:45He's unbelievable.
- 42:45And he was great, by the way.
- 42:46He's my favorite NFL GM.
- 42:48All I did all weekend was praise Les Snead.
- 42:50If you, people try to bring up Howie Roseman,
- 42:52I love Howie Roseman, but Les Snead is the guy.
- 42:54He's the guy. So continue.
- 42:55So Les Snead comes on the show.
- 42:56In case you don't know,
- 42:57I have a little show called Deficient Decker
- 42:59over there on The Fan LA.
- 43:01Is it Deficient Decker now?
- 43:02It is Deficient Decker now.
- 43:03Okay, hell yeah.
- 43:04Deficient Decker that you can check out on,
- 43:06of course, Monday through Friday,
- 43:07right here in Los Angeles, 97.1 FM.
- 43:09And of course you can check it out on YouTube
- 43:11at The Fan LA.
- 43:12Yes, I'm doing this all right now.
- 43:13They do not pay me to do this on this show,
- 43:15but I'm doing it anyways.
- 43:16You might as well.
- 43:17But I might as well,
- 43:18because I do want you guys to watch it.
- 43:19I'm really, really happy about the show.
- 43:21We had Les Snead,
- 43:21me and the great Derrick Fisher
- 43:23had Les Snead on this weekend.
- 43:24Man, I did get to ask him some very important questions
- 43:27and he did answer said questions.
- 43:29Okay, let's hear it.
- 43:29I won, I asked how long, far back this was going.
- 43:32And he said, I can't get into details,
- 43:33which tells me a long time.
- 43:35Which tells me there was tampering.
- 43:37A long time.
- 43:37But then here's one thing that he did kind of say
- 43:39around draft night, which has been reported.
- 43:42This did, it seems very much so
- 43:44that this led to them drafting Ty Simpson
- 43:47considering the fact they won't have
- 43:48a first round draft pick for a while.
- 43:48So they were aware of that.
- 43:50So this is some pretty good chess
- 43:52that they were playing early on.
- 43:53Yeah, I love that explanation for it
- 43:55because I still think Sean McVay is pissed
- 43:58about Ty Simpson.
- 43:59I still think that too,
- 44:01but if you really put it in this context,
- 44:03it does make.
- 44:04I believe in Les.
- 44:06It does make a little sense.
- 44:08It makes a lot more sense.
- 44:09And then you go a little bit into the future
- 44:11and you're seeing how this is all kind of shaking out.
- 44:13So I also asked him on top of that,
- 44:16the very big question here in Los Angeles.
- 44:18And it immediately started
- 44:20because you saw all the memes and everything.
- 44:22Then Trey Wingo puts out a tweet
- 44:24about this Photoshop of Miles Garrett next to Aaron Donald.
- 44:28And everyone's like, God, how great would this be?
- 44:29And then Trey Wingo,
- 44:31who doesn't really speak out of pocket all that often,
- 44:33just out of nowhere, throws out a tweet quote tweeting.
- 44:35Actually Trey Wingo is very out of pocket.
- 44:37Well, not normally when it comes to just future things
- 44:40that he seemed to have an information about.
- 44:43He's out of pocket about a lot of things,
- 44:45but he's not going to put out something like-
- 44:47Like an insider scoop.
- 44:49This was more of like a wink insider scoop.
- 44:51And kind of, he alluded that this is more than a fantasy.
- 44:54Can't talk about this more.
- 44:56So you talked to, did you ask Les?
- 44:59So immediately, Les, I got to ask you
- 45:02because I'd be remiss not to
- 45:03because everyone's talking about it.
- 45:05Is it possible that Aaron Donald can come back?
- 45:08And he immediately said, I will tell you this.
- 45:12It is far more possible right now than it was a year ago.
- 45:15What the fuck?
- 45:16And then he just goes, I know he's in great shape.
- 45:19I know he's even tweeted about coming back a little bit.
- 45:21I know he's Aaron Donald.
- 45:22And let's make no mistake.
- 45:24This is not tampering.
- 45:25He's allowed to say this because they own his rights.
- 45:29Yeah, no, he's not.
- 45:30There's no issue with that.
- 45:31Yeah, no issue at all.
- 45:32So he started putting, and he even put it on us.
- 45:33He's like, if you guys want to start a campaign
- 45:35to bring back Aaron Donald.
- 45:36And so we started said campaign.
- 45:38Aaron Donald today tweeted a photo from a football field.
- 45:42I saw that saying day one.
- 45:43Motherfucker, Aaron Donald's coming back.
- 45:45This team's going to be absurd.
- 45:48People have been saying this in my comments.
- 45:49And I was like, let Aaron Donald rest.
- 45:51Don't, you know, don't bother Aaron Donald.
- 45:53I didn't realize, I had no idea he was even considering.
- 45:57Aaron Donald was reached out by, is it Jordan Schultz report?
- 46:01Jordan Schultz and asked him if this is a possibility.
- 46:04And he did reply.
- 46:05And I quote, I am certainly flirting with the idea.
- 46:09I saw that today.
- 46:11I kind of thought that it was like him
- 46:13just enjoying the attention.
- 46:14I think this shit's real.
- 46:16That's fucking insane.
- 46:16I legitimately think that I've, I don't know this obviously.
- 46:20I'm just using my brain.
- 46:22I think there is an account in the Cayman Islands
- 46:24that has $35 million in it right now
- 46:27that he's supposed to go on a European trip
- 46:30in like 10 years to pick up.
- 46:32I gotta be honest, I, this entire thing,
- 46:36like regardless of whether they get Aaron Donald or not,
- 46:38they're in a really great spot.
- 46:40They made the NFC championship game last year
- 46:42with Matthew Stafford playing as the MVP.
- 46:46And I, the fuck them picks thing is so beautiful.
- 46:51And this is what I've told a lot of people in my comments
- 46:53and having the conversation, which is part of the,
- 46:56part of what I was talking about was don't let me,
- 46:58don't let your NFL GM tell you, you don't have the picks.
- 47:02You don't have the money.
- 47:03You don't have the cap space.
- 47:04Don't fucking tell me that because every,
- 47:07when they traded the farm away for the,
- 47:11all the picks they gave up for Matthew Stafford,
- 47:14the picks they gave up for Jalen Ramsey,
- 47:16the picks that they've given up for so,
- 47:18and all of the money that they've spent,
- 47:20there was a time where I was like, this guy is nuts.
- 47:23They're not gonna be able to track for so long.
- 47:25How are they gonna do?
- 47:25I could not believe it.
- 47:27And I have been, and I mean, the way that I was,
- 47:32like, it's taught me so much about the value,
- 47:36right, what you can do, the, here's the caveat.
- 47:38The one thing you need to do is be able to draft well.
- 47:41And so that's why he's my favorite fucking GM
- 47:44because he drafts the way he drafts,
- 47:46then manages the cap the way that he manages it,
- 47:49then spends his picks and his free agent spending
- 47:52the way that he spends them in his trade.
- 47:54It's every single, but don't tell me,
- 47:57if you can't pull it off,
- 47:58your GM's not doing their job right.
- 48:00And you know what, that's okay.
- 48:01Not everybody can be less need,
- 48:03but the one thing you gotta just admit is like,
- 48:05he's just not as good.
- 48:07Everything that this mother,
- 48:08he says I had to draft Ty Simpson
- 48:10because we won't have picks.
- 48:11I don't even believe he won't have picks.
- 48:12He didn't say that to me.
- 48:13That's what's being reported.
- 48:14And it does seem as though maneuvering was done for that.
- 48:16The idea, so like, even then I'm like,
- 48:18he'll somehow have picks and he'll end up with Lamar Jackson.
- 48:23By the way, I firmly believe this.
- 48:25I don't think Ty Simpson will ever play a game for the Rams.
- 48:28I think he's a trade piece.
- 48:30No, somehow Lamar Jackson's gonna be the starting quarterback
- 48:33of the goddamn Rams.
- 48:34Here's the future.
- 48:35Here's exactly what's gonna happen.
- 48:36They're gonna win the Superbowl this year
- 48:38and maybe Matthew Stafford stays on another year
- 48:40because it is 65, 60 million dollars.
- 48:41He's gotta retire if they win it.
- 48:42But if they win the Superbowl,
- 48:43he's probably gonna retire.
- 48:44You know what, I would too.
- 48:45Retire right there and then there you go.
- 48:47We have a quarterback situation.
- 48:49But it ain't gonna be Ty Simpson.
- 48:50Ty Simpson's gonna get a trade
- 48:51of the fucking Baltimore Ravens or the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 48:54And then it's gonna be Joe Burrow
- 48:55or fucking Lamar Jackson here.
- 48:57Watch, I'm fucking calling it now.
- 49:00This is what's happening.
- 49:01And if it's not either one of them,
- 49:02somehow it's Josh Allen.
- 49:04Somehow.
- 49:06That's how, or how about this?
- 49:09Another one, another possibility.
- 49:10I'm listening.
- 49:11Andy Reid retires.
- 49:13Patrick Mahomes, he's done.
- 49:15He's done in Kansas City.
- 49:17Yeah, fuck it, why not?
- 49:18We'll get Patrick Mahomes for another 10 years.
- 49:20Would anybody be surprised at this point?
- 49:22No, because that's the lesson he does.
- 49:23And everybody's like, it could never happen.
- 49:25He doesn't have the picks.
- 49:26He always somehow has the fucking picks.
- 49:29I don't know.
- 49:29He finds the picks.
- 49:30So yeah.
- 49:31So listen, I've been like,
- 49:34for the last couple of years,
- 49:35I've been on the Rams as kind of my NFC team.
- 49:37And now I'm really annoyed
- 49:38that other people are jumping on the bandwagon.
- 49:40I'm like, no, no, no.
- 49:41I jumped on the bandwagon before the bandwagon was cool.
- 49:42Hey, you wanna know when I jumped on it
- 49:43was when I started covering the Rams in 2016
- 49:47when Jeff Fisher was the coach.
- 49:48So I get credit.
- 49:49So I jumped on it a little bit in 19
- 49:51because I was like, you know what?
- 49:52I need an NFC team anyways.
- 49:53Well, Sean McVay had just been in the draft.
- 49:54And I was just like, you know what?
- 49:55I kinda wanna, I don't know.
- 49:56It's in LA, which is kinda cool to me.
- 49:59I'm like, you know what?
- 50:00I'm in, I'm in, I'm in, I'm in.
- 50:01I had to convince myself.
- 50:03It took me a few minutes.
- 50:03But I'm like, yeah, I'm a diehard Raider fan,
- 50:05but I need an NFC team.
- 50:07Yeah, they're NFC, so you're fine, yeah.
- 50:09I am so glad I made that decision.
- 50:11I'm enjoying the shit out of this.
- 50:13I will say they're not my NFC team.
- 50:15I do, like, they're LA.
- 50:17So I'm gonna like, in that way,
- 50:18and because they don't, they're not an NFC,
- 50:20they're not my NFC team, but I do love them.
- 50:22And more importantly, I don't even think I love the Rams.
- 50:26I love Lesney and Sean McVay.
- 50:28Fuck them, fuck them picks.
- 50:30Fuck them picks forever, man.
- 50:32All right, let's move over to Media Corner.
- 50:34A couple of quick hitters here.
- 50:36Nothing deep, which is kinda fun for us.
- 50:37For once, we don't have to go too, too hard
- 50:39into Media Corner, but I do love this.
- 50:41So in some fucking rare good news in Media Corner.
- 50:44Wow, look at us.
- 50:45Rare good news, we get to enjoy ourselves.
- 50:47Yes, Joel Klatt is replacing Kirk Herbstreit
- 50:50as the color commentator in EA Sports College Football 27.
- 50:53Mostly just wanted to talk about this
- 50:55because it's just a rare win for the good guys
- 50:57and sports fans in general.
- 50:59I love Joel Klatt.
- 51:01Yeah, that's a good one.
- 51:02First of all, so this is like kind of a twofold thing.
- 51:06I love Joel Klatt as much as I hate Kirk Herbstreit.
- 51:10And so that's what's like so perfect, right?
- 51:12Is that like, everything that Kirk Herbstreit is,
- 51:16is the opposite of, like Joel Klatt is so kind.
- 51:20He's, first of all, he's great at his job,
- 51:22but he's also just like a really good dude.
- 51:25A really good dude.
- 51:26So like, I need to be educated more on Kirk Herbstreit
- 51:29because I don't know enough about him
- 51:30and why everybody hates him.
- 51:31I'm assuming it's the reasons I'm assuming and think.
- 51:33Yeah, yeah.
- 51:34I mean, he's definitely like Trumpy and MAGA, right?
- 51:37But I hated him before that.
- 51:38I never liked his announcing or his work.
- 51:40Yeah, I mean, I hated his Ohio State homer
- 51:42to him before that.
- 51:43I hated it like a lot of,
- 51:44but he was, you know, good enough at his job.
- 51:46It wasn't like I was ever like,
- 51:47oh, you're not good at this job.
- 51:49He is, he's that classic,
- 51:53everything has got some sort of dog whistle in it.
- 51:55Yeah, no, no, I have seen those,
- 51:58I guess I just,
- 52:00I don't care about him all that much
- 52:02that it's just completely just missed me for the most part.
- 52:05I mean, I know he has a dog.
- 52:07That's literally the majority of my dog.
- 52:08Well, the dog died and then he got another dog.
- 52:10Well, I'm glad he got another dog.
- 52:11Yeah, sure.
- 52:12I'm fine with that.
- 52:13I always love a dog.
- 52:14I don't hold a dog responsible for their owner.
- 52:16Like Hitler had a dog.
- 52:17I felt bad for that one.
- 52:18Really?
- 52:19Yeah.
- 52:20Okay.
- 52:21I'm assuming.
- 52:21You're assuming he had a dog?
- 52:22I don't know.
- 52:23I mean, I've heard of it.
- 52:24Seems like he didn't have time for a dog.
- 52:25Listen, I did study.
- 52:27He had a dog.
- 52:28Hitler had a dog.
- 52:29Mocha, how do you know this?
- 52:30Because I remember vividly in college.
- 52:32History.
- 52:33I remember my history class.
- 52:34You guys, that was not the most important
- 52:36Hitler details I remember.
- 52:36It was my college dissertation
- 52:38and I think it was titled.
- 52:40Hitler had a dog.
- 52:41Hitler had a dog.
- 52:46I admit it's not the number,
- 52:48the first thing you looked up.
- 52:49Now, this is why you didn't imagine it.
- 52:50Yeah, it's right up there with,
- 52:51did you know he painted?
- 52:54Okay, well, I've got to be honest.
- 52:57So Hitler and Kurt Cobb Street had dogs.
- 52:59Good to know.
- 53:00Some weird Venn diagrams.
- 53:02There they are.
- 53:04But yeah, he's got a lot of.
- 53:06I have a dog.
- 53:07There's a lot of relationships to his sports analysis
- 53:11that I really, really don't love.
- 53:12But more importantly, I love Joel Klatt.
- 53:14And he's a good dude.
- 53:16He's incredible at his job.
- 53:18And it's nice to see someone in the industry,
- 53:22one of the few white men in the industry
- 53:23that I really, really like, get the win.
- 53:25Now, I would love at some point
- 53:27for this to not be a blonde white man
- 53:28that's getting this job.
- 53:29But you know what?
- 53:30We're going to take these baby steps
- 53:31toward from Kurt Street to Joel Klatt.
- 53:33From bald bearded white guys.
- 53:34You want bald, yeah, we don't need the blonde.
- 53:35But there's not enough bald bearded white guys
- 53:37with sweet glasses and tattoos with bold sleeves.
- 53:40That's all I'm saying.
- 53:41Well, there's plenty of them,
- 53:42but they're just not on our side of things.
- 53:43That's fair.
- 53:44I do look like I can infiltrate.
- 53:46Yes, oh, you absolutely.
- 53:48I'm basically a T-800 mocha.
- 53:50I'm an infiltration unit.
- 53:52I've told people this.
- 53:53A few of my black girlfriends specifically
- 53:58have been like, do people think that you're conservative
- 54:02because of the way you look?
- 54:03And I was like, oh, yeah.
- 54:05People definitely think I am.
- 54:06Yeah, I mean, the internet,
- 54:08occasionally, it's not happening anymore
- 54:10now that I'm a little bit more notable.
- 54:11But it used to happen all the time
- 54:12where people were like, I saw you
- 54:13and did not expect what you were about to say.
- 54:16But in real life, people will say stuff around me.
- 54:18And I'm like an undercover.
- 54:19I'm like an undercover cop.
- 54:20I'm like, oh, you, oh.
- 54:22Oh, no, there's a lot of people in New York
- 54:24in this industry that I've hung out with
- 54:26that I was just like, oh, yeah, you ain't my guy.
- 54:28You ain't my person.
- 54:29Yeah, we're cool.
- 54:30Yeah, we're fine.
- 54:31Like, we don't need to do this.
- 54:33It's really wild, right?
- 54:34It's a lot more people than you might think.
- 54:35Yeah, it does fuel my fire, I'll tell you that much.
- 54:38So happy for Joel Klatt.
- 54:39That's really all it is.
- 54:40That is very cool.
- 54:41Yeah, and happy for whoever plays College Football 27
- 54:44because they're about to have a much better experience.
- 54:46Because again, Herb Street, not popular.
- 54:48There's a reason they made this change.
- 54:50The other thing is ESPN has been under fire
- 54:54and had to apologize, essentially,
- 54:56for using an artificial intelligence version of Tony Parker
- 55:01during the second half of the NBA Finals.
- 55:05Or the NBA, sorry, was this the NBA Finals?
- 55:09I believe it was the NBA Finals.
- 55:10Yes, this was the other night.
- 55:11Oh, this was the other night, yes.
- 55:12This was very much the other night, no.
- 55:13So I didn't look into details,
- 55:15but I saw the headline and it never looked like further.
- 55:17I saw what they were, like what was reposted.
- 55:20It is very clearly an AI representation of Tony Parker
- 55:28of a thing that actually happened.
- 55:30Like it's a real-
- 55:31There are photos.
- 55:32There's photos and videos of it.
- 55:33This wasn't from 1940.
- 55:35There was real emotion.
- 55:38People were cheering.
- 55:40He held a trophy.
- 55:41And this is ESPN.
- 55:42They have an archive unlike, I mean, outside of,
- 55:46I can't think of anything outside
- 55:47of the old Sports Illustrated archive
- 55:49that might've rivaled the archive of video
- 55:52and photo footage that ESPN has access to.
- 55:56There's a real photo of this moment and the AI did.
- 55:59Yeah, as our industry, the sports media industry,
- 56:03gets more and more gutted and more and more folded
- 56:07in on itself by massive conglomerates,
- 56:09we're seeing more and more layoffs
- 56:11because obviously, you know,
- 56:14no one wants to ever investigate monopolies anymore.
- 56:17And obviously, competition's a bad thing.
- 56:19We just need, we need it all to be just one gigantic company
- 56:22so we can then fire, you know, 35% of said workforce.
- 56:26And that is what has been happening at ESPN systematically
- 56:29for year after year at Fox as well as, you know,
- 56:32as well as every other industry in this thing.
- 56:34This industry has been gutting itself
- 56:36in such a fucking disgusting way
- 56:39that I'll use my new gig as an example
- 56:42that I am so happy about this gig for multiple reasons.
- 56:46Not just that I'm very lucky
- 56:48to have gotten the opportunity to do the morning show,
- 56:50but it's also because it's a new channel.
- 56:55It's a new expansion here.
- 56:57No one's expanding.
- 56:59Everyone's contracting.
- 57:00We're hiring people.
- 57:01We're expanding LA sports right now.
- 57:04And I look at that as an opportunity of, you know,
- 57:07a rising tide to lift other ships.
- 57:09So I hope this is good for AM570.
- 57:12I hope it's good for the ESPN guys on AM as well.
- 57:14I hope it's good for all of us.
- 57:16And I hope it's good for the industry.
- 57:18I hope it's a trend that will take, go forward.
- 57:20Unfortunately on the TV side,
- 57:22everything is owned by Disney now
- 57:24and the rest that isn't owned by Disney is owned by Fox.
- 57:27So that, and now Netflix is in there as well,
- 57:30but they're not really increasing jobs
- 57:32because what they're doing is just hiring the people
- 57:34that are already hired and other people
- 57:35because they're working in like conjunction with each other.
- 57:39This is fucking really ugly.
- 57:42And the fact that we're not even hiring
- 57:45fucking video editors to properly put together
- 57:49video packages on SportsCenter is disgusting.
- 57:52No, that's the thing.
- 57:54We have inside information about this.
- 57:57There's plenty of video editors.
- 57:58There's plenty of people there that would do this.
- 58:00There were video editors working on this broadcast.
- 58:03So here's what I wonder.
- 58:06They're seeing if they can do it.
- 58:07Well, I think that there's a part of that
- 58:09that might be at play.
- 58:10What can they get away with?
- 58:12I also think that, and this is a conspiracy theory kind of,
- 58:16and it's half-baked so you can sort of just,
- 58:19you know, we'll chat it out a little bit,
- 58:21but I think a lot of these companies
- 58:23are in these sort of dark money handshake negotiation deals
- 58:28with artificial intelligence companies
- 58:32to essentially slow roll AI into their programming
- 58:37and they're making money in places
- 58:40that isn't being reported.
- 58:42I think that there are corporate relationships
- 58:43that are technically on the books that we don't know about
- 58:45because when I tell you there is no reason,
- 58:49there is no reason on planet Earth.
- 58:52I've worked in sports television my whole life.
- 58:55I have 1,000 friends that work at ESPN.
- 58:58It was harder to do this than to just have an editor
- 59:02throw in the actual Tony Parker.
- 59:04This was a lot harder.
- 59:06That's weird.
- 59:08That's concerning.
- 59:09That makes me think that there is a motive
- 59:12that to your point could be, what can we get away with?
- 59:15Can we replace these people with AI without people noticing?
- 59:18But also, what type of relationships do you have already
- 59:22with these companies and with providers of this service
- 59:26that made you feel like this was necessary?
- 59:30So it's very concerning.
- 59:33I am already out of the industry.
- 59:35Myself, in terms of working in mainstream sports television,
- 59:40but not everybody that I love and that I'm friends with is.
- 59:45This is fucking concerning.
- 59:46This is a problem.
- 59:47It's not a problem.
- 59:48I have friends who talk about AI, work in AI,
- 59:52and I can't do it.
- 59:53I'm so fucking over it, Cody.
- 59:55It's really ugly, but I gotta tell you this.
- 59:57What you're telling me is that this is a half-baked theory.
- 1:00:03I think this is, I honestly think this is exactly
- 1:00:05what's taking place.
- 1:00:06It's a theory in the sense that I don't actually have.
- 1:00:09I think whether it's Disney or a subsidiary of Disney
- 1:00:14or if it's whatever entity it is,
- 1:00:17has some sort of deal with an open AI or this or that 100%.
- 1:00:25These are not good people.
- 1:00:27I just don't know what else to tell you.
- 1:00:29These aren't good people.
- 1:00:31These are all, when I'm talking about the AI,
- 1:00:35do I need to tell you that Sam Altman's a fucking monster?
- 1:00:38Do I need to do that?
- 1:00:39By the way, do I need to tell you that when billionaires
- 1:00:41are like, hey, this would be really good for you guys,
- 1:00:44it'll be really good for you to use this,
- 1:00:46that you should be skeptical?
- 1:00:47Yeah, you don't think that-
- 1:00:49You think billionaires want us to make money?
- 1:00:51You think that cutting labor entirely
- 1:00:54is not exactly what they're trying to do?
- 1:00:56This was all laid out in the 80s from Ronald Reagan.
- 1:00:59I don't have to tell you.
- 1:01:01Literally the path of wealth has a massive trajectory
- 1:01:05literally from that.
- 1:01:07It's so disturbing that no one can look at a chart.
- 1:01:13So, but yeah, this is where it's going
- 1:01:14and good luck, everyone.
- 1:01:17Yeah, so I mean, stay loud.
- 1:01:19The best thing we can do is stay loud.
- 1:01:21I don't wanna just be nihilistic
- 1:01:22and act like there's nothing we can do.
- 1:01:24People were pretty outraged.
- 1:01:26They said what they said.
- 1:01:27Stay loud, stay vigilant about not using it.
- 1:01:31Listen, there's some stuff that where AI
- 1:01:33is built into an app or whatever else.
- 1:01:34It's not what we're talking about.
- 1:01:35We're talking about generative AI.
- 1:01:37We're talking about the type of AI
- 1:01:39that's replacing editors and artists and things like that.
- 1:01:41You know what, Google's old-
- 1:01:42Are really important.
- 1:01:43I don't know if it's still their motto,
- 1:01:44but I will tell you this was their motto.
- 1:01:46And I did appreciate this for a long time.
- 1:01:48Highly doubt the motto is still being used.
- 1:01:50Oh no, they're using the fuck out of AI.
- 1:01:51Oh no, no, no.
- 1:01:52The model was, I mean, I think it even was attributed AI,
- 1:01:54no matter what, the first number rule was
- 1:01:57don't be evil.
- 1:01:59Yeah, they've crossed that boundary, but-
- 1:02:01Too late.
- 1:02:02Yeah, so that's the thing is like,
- 1:02:05ESPN had to address it publicly.
- 1:02:07Good, keep doing this.
- 1:02:08I don't, the one thing that I'm,
- 1:02:10and we're gonna get into this now
- 1:02:12that we're getting into catch up corner.
- 1:02:13The one thing I've taken away
- 1:02:15from having been in Washington DC
- 1:02:18with a bunch of content creators
- 1:02:19is nihilism is like just simply not a fucking option.
- 1:02:24We are not out here doing this,
- 1:02:27having this conversation,
- 1:02:28doing politics on a sports show
- 1:02:30so that we can tell everybody
- 1:02:31that nothing can be done and nothing matters.
- 1:02:33No, it all matters.
- 1:02:34So if you see AI Tony Parker
- 1:02:37and you wanna fucking pop off about it,
- 1:02:39that's meaningful, please do so.
- 1:02:41Don't act like it doesn't matter, it does.
- 1:02:44No, it really does.
- 1:02:45Guys, it's why we do this show.
- 1:02:48Yeah.
- 1:02:48You know, we do this show
- 1:02:52because we feel like no one else is.
- 1:02:54Yeah.
- 1:02:55We feel informed and we are informed enough
- 1:02:57to do this show.
- 1:02:59And we have very, very unique perspectives
- 1:03:02in the sports world.
- 1:03:03And the one thing I love about this show
- 1:03:06and love about working with you
- 1:03:07is despite how much we do bust balls
- 1:03:10and despite how much we do get angry
- 1:03:12and occasionally nihilistic with how annoying it gets,
- 1:03:15we do always try to lead with empathy.
- 1:03:17Yeah.
- 1:03:18And that is literally the one thing I think sports,
- 1:03:21I mean, there is a lot of empathy in sports.
- 1:03:23Like look no further than Wembley,
- 1:03:24but then I see the pushback.
- 1:03:26Yeah.
- 1:03:27Like my problem with sports
- 1:03:29is the pushback on Victor Wemenyama.
- 1:03:31If there was an ounce of pushback-
- 1:03:32And Caleb Williams.
- 1:03:33And Caleb Williams.
- 1:03:34That pushback is what's wrong with sports.
- 1:03:38The people that want you to be mad,
- 1:03:41make money off it, is what's wrong with sports.
- 1:03:43And it happens to just also be what's wrong with the world.
- 1:03:46Yeah.
- 1:03:47So.
- 1:03:48So yeah, I mean, that's a perfect way for us to segue
- 1:03:50into Catch-Up Corner.
- 1:03:51And we'll talk about what's going on with both of us,
- 1:03:54but I did have a big weekend in Washington, D.C.
- 1:03:57I went to a conference called Trending Up
- 1:04:00that was about 280 creators from around the country.
- 1:04:04We were hosted in D.C.
- 1:04:05at a beautiful five-star hotel on the wharf.
- 1:04:08And we spent the weekend going to panels,
- 1:04:11having conversations, different creators
- 1:04:14were teaching different little seminars on things
- 1:04:17and networking with each other, meeting each other
- 1:04:20and figuring out kind of what's what.
- 1:04:22The thing that's really interesting
- 1:04:23that segues into this conversation that you just said
- 1:04:27is that we just don't have a lot of this in sports.
- 1:04:30And of all of those creators
- 1:04:32with all these different niches,
- 1:04:33listen, I met the mom influencers.
- 1:04:35I met more people who do content with their cats
- 1:04:40than I met sports creators.
- 1:04:42It was me and Coach Jackie.
- 1:04:45I don't, do you know Coach Jackie?
- 1:04:46I don't know Coach Jackie.
- 1:04:47She does women's sports.
- 1:04:48I should check her out.
- 1:04:49And she's fantastic.
- 1:04:49You'd love her.
- 1:04:51She has a lot of like just history about women's sports
- 1:04:53and just like, you know, whatever.
- 1:04:54She's young Gen Z kind of bringing everybody
- 1:04:57into the mix on the women's side of things.
- 1:04:59And she and I started following each other
- 1:05:02because we both had an intersection
- 1:05:03of talking about trans women in sports.
- 1:05:05And her and I were the only sports creators at this event.
- 1:05:11Everybody else in all of these different niches.
- 1:05:12And that to me is fucking crazy
- 1:05:15considering just how political sports truly are.
- 1:05:20Pretty crazy.
- 1:05:21And so I felt like I spent all weekend
- 1:05:23sort of explaining to people just how political sports are.
- 1:05:28And the event itself obviously was,
- 1:05:32gave me a lot of insight into the fact that there is,
- 1:05:36people are fighting this battle
- 1:05:37in every single industry that they're in, right?
- 1:05:40Yeah.
- 1:05:41So that was obviously a very big part
- 1:05:45of the time that I was there.
- 1:05:47Other part of the time that I was there
- 1:05:48was me just being like, holy fuck,
- 1:05:50there's a lot of creators here that are my FYP.
- 1:05:55I don't know if you've ever heard this thing,
- 1:05:56but when people go and do this stuff, they say like,
- 1:05:58this is crazy.
- 1:05:59My whole FYP is here.
- 1:06:00My whole feed is here.
- 1:06:02FYP?
- 1:06:03Yeah, for you page.
- 1:06:04That's a TikTok thing.
- 1:06:05Oh, okay, okay, yeah.
- 1:06:06My whole algorithm is here.
- 1:06:07My whole like whatever.
- 1:06:08Fuck me.
- 1:06:09Yeah.
- 1:06:10Sorry.
- 1:06:11Sorry, sorry, Mocha, teach me your ways.
- 1:06:15You don't even need Mocha.
- 1:06:16Apparently, I'm doing the job for him.
- 1:06:19What is this Gen Z chick I'm doing this show with?
- 1:06:22But it is actually that,
- 1:06:24like it is actually fucking wild
- 1:06:26to walk into a hotel lobby
- 1:06:29and see like 20 people you follow on the internet
- 1:06:31with millions of followers,
- 1:06:32just like standing there in front of you,
- 1:06:33checking into the same hotel, right?
- 1:06:36Everybody was a lot nicer than I thought they would be.
- 1:06:38That's good to hear.
- 1:06:39There was not a lot of big timing.
- 1:06:42Catty, big time.
- 1:06:43Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:45There was one girl that definitely hates me.
- 1:06:48Well, she must love herself.
- 1:06:49Yeah.
- 1:06:49Who is it?
- 1:06:50Name names.
- 1:06:51Coward.
- 1:06:52No, she's a political influencer,
- 1:06:56and I don't know where she's based out of,
- 1:06:58but like literally one time
- 1:07:01I disagreed with her publicly on the internet,
- 1:07:02and she fucking cold shouldered the fuck out of me.
- 1:07:05We were at a karaoke bar,
- 1:07:07and she was like right in front of me was like,
- 1:07:10yeah, and when people think that they like,
- 1:07:12and she like fucking tried to talk shit about me
- 1:07:14in front of me to like to somebody else
- 1:07:17that I was friends with,
- 1:07:18and I was like, I'm not doing this.
- 1:07:19I'm like not doing this.
- 1:07:20I've had such a good weekend,
- 1:07:22but she hates me, so it is what it is.
- 1:07:24Listen, we're different in this respect.
- 1:07:27I fucking love confrontation.
- 1:07:29If you wanna say something to me,
- 1:07:31I'm happy to talk.
- 1:07:32Oh, it's not that I dislike confrontation.
- 1:07:33I'm not afraid of that at all.
- 1:07:35It was like, this is not,
- 1:07:37when I'm looking at like a,
- 1:07:39if I'm looking at a drunk white girl
- 1:07:41talking shit in front of me,
- 1:07:43like you're not worth my fucking time.
- 1:07:44No, I love debating a drunk white girl.
- 1:07:46That's the fucking, it's target practice.
- 1:07:49What are you doing?
- 1:07:50Yeah, but like, that's not gonna work in my favor
- 1:07:53because we're in a group of mutual friends,
- 1:07:55and now we're gonna be like,
- 1:07:56now there's gonna be picking sides on the internet.
- 1:07:59Thanks, I'm good, you know?
- 1:08:01But other than that, everything was really great.
- 1:08:03Loved everybody there.
- 1:08:05It was like, the big thing that obviously,
- 1:08:09like the creator thing was its own,
- 1:08:11you know, obviously its own thing.
- 1:08:13We had this great setup.
- 1:08:14We were going to all these panels,
- 1:08:15met some governors, did the whole thing.
- 1:08:17The thing that I was building to
- 1:08:19that I was nervous about all weekend
- 1:08:21was going to Capitol Hill on Wednesday
- 1:08:22and talking with our senator,
- 1:08:26our Southern California senator, Alex Padilla.
- 1:08:30So we all wake up a little bit,
- 1:08:33a little bit, you know, tired from the night before party
- 1:08:36and get on a shuttle over to the Capitol.
- 1:08:38It was incredible.
- 1:08:39I didn't know how I was gonna feel about being there.
- 1:08:41Obviously, it's not the best time to be patriotic,
- 1:08:44but seeing the Capitol building, being in front of it,
- 1:08:47being in these, it was incredible.
- 1:08:48I've never gotten to do that.
- 1:08:50I was, I also didn't know this was gonna happen.
- 1:08:53We walk in for our little initiation
- 1:08:55just to like get ready before we all go meet
- 1:08:56with our representatives and senators.
- 1:08:58Elizabeth Warren walks in.
- 1:09:00She gives us a rousing speech.
- 1:09:02That was fucking awesome.
- 1:09:03She's one of the few politicians
- 1:09:05I heard from over the weekend where I was like,
- 1:09:07she almost made me want to cry how much she cared.
- 1:09:09Like she cares and she's been doing this for so long
- 1:09:12and she still fucking cares so much.
- 1:09:14And she came in so ready to be excited
- 1:09:16about the impact that we can have.
- 1:09:17And it was very, very cute.
- 1:09:19But I got to take the underground Senate tunnel train
- 1:09:24to the Senate offices.
- 1:09:27I didn't even know it existed.
- 1:09:29It was really sick.
- 1:09:30So that was really cool.
- 1:09:32Also Alex Padilla, side note, tall.
- 1:09:35He looks tall.
- 1:09:36He looks like a big guy.
- 1:09:37I didn't realize he was tall.
- 1:09:39He's like, I mean, I was probably six feet
- 1:09:41with my sneakers on.
- 1:09:43This guy was like a few inches tall
- 1:09:44and he had to have been like 6'3".
- 1:09:45Hey, shit, Alex Padilla.
- 1:09:47Yeah.
- 1:09:48Big dude.
- 1:09:49Tall, yeah.
- 1:09:49And so he's at, yeah.
- 1:09:51I haven't caught.
- 1:09:52I got stuck at 5'11".
- 1:09:52And by the way, relax all ladies that are saying,
- 1:09:56you're probably 5'7".
- 1:09:57No, I'm actually 5'11".
- 1:09:58No, I did.
- 1:09:59I hate being 5'11".
- 1:10:00I did make sure he was 5'11", because I'm 5'10".
- 1:10:03I'm just slightly under 5'10".
- 1:10:04And I'm a little taller than you.
- 1:10:05And we barefoot did the thing.
- 1:10:08He has an itch.
- 1:10:09Your husband has confirmed that I am taller than you.
- 1:10:12Has he?
- 1:10:13Yes.
- 1:10:14He did this in front of your husband.
- 1:10:15He's like, sorry, Tanya.
- 1:10:17Narrative is dead.
- 1:10:18He's 5'11".
- 1:10:19Nice try, lady.
- 1:10:21Was I still arguing at that time?
- 1:10:22Yes.
- 1:10:22And we're just like, bullshit.
- 1:10:23I'm like, no.
- 1:10:24Fuck it, it's right here.
- 1:10:26I feel like we had already handled it
- 1:10:27and then I must have backtracked.
- 1:10:30So yes, he is 5'11".
- 1:10:32It does sound like a fake height.
- 1:10:33It is usually a fake height.
- 1:10:34No, trust me.
- 1:10:35I wish I was 6'1".
- 1:10:37I've never claimed it.
- 1:10:38Even back in the day, my hinge profiles.
- 1:10:41I said 5'11".
- 1:10:41I was honest about it.
- 1:10:43Well, you know, I'm proud of you for that.
- 1:10:45Thank you.
- 1:10:46I do think honesty is good.
- 1:10:47Honesty is good.
- 1:10:48And also 5'11'' is not short.
- 1:10:49So it's, you're fine.
- 1:10:50It's not like you're like,
- 1:10:51oh, I have to admit to being 5'3".
- 1:10:53Short in them streets.
- 1:10:56Well, yeah, for, because there's-
- 1:10:58You know what I'm talking about, Mocha?
- 1:10:59No, it's because-
- 1:11:01Okay, almost there.
- 1:11:02Right?
- 1:11:02It's like, you're not even a person.
- 1:11:05But that's, you know what annoys me?
- 1:11:07It's because of women who are like 5'2",
- 1:11:09who want a dude over six feet.
- 1:11:11What do you need with a dude over six feet?
- 1:11:13Where do you get the balls to be such a thing?
- 1:11:15What's with that request?
- 1:11:17You know what I mean?
- 1:11:18Like, what are we doing on that front?
- 1:11:20Short people are nice too.
- 1:11:21Are they?
- 1:11:22Short people are nice.
- 1:11:25I know.
- 1:11:26Mocha, you're not short.
- 1:11:27Yeah, Mocha, aren't you six feet?
- 1:11:28What are you talking about?
- 1:11:29How tall are you?
- 1:11:30No, Mocha's like my height.
- 1:11:31Say your height, asshole.
- 1:11:32Mocha, aren't you my height?
- 1:11:33I'm 5'9".
- 1:11:34Are you really?
- 1:11:355'9", I don't know.
- 1:11:36Okay, well, that's not that far off from me.
- 1:11:38I thought you were my height.
- 1:11:41Okay, well, we're going to,
- 1:11:41that's what we're doing.
- 1:11:42Take your shoes off.
- 1:11:43Let's go back to back.
- 1:11:44Yeah, we're supposed to go back to back
- 1:11:45and we'll figure this out.
- 1:11:49So yeah, that was-
- 1:11:49I'm six feet.
- 1:11:50I know that.
- 1:11:52Well, yeah, I mean, I knew that,
- 1:11:54but I don't feel like I'm that much taller than you.
- 1:11:56I think normally I'm just wearing heels or big shoes.
- 1:11:59Listen, I'm really glad you had that experience.
- 1:12:02I hope you learned a shit ton.
- 1:12:06I hope you learned what you're doing is extremely worthwhile
- 1:12:10and that it can turn, change minds
- 1:12:13and it can change the world.
- 1:12:16So I'm excited for you.
- 1:12:17I'm excited for us.
- 1:12:19Yeah.
- 1:12:20Hell, I'm excited to pick your brain on what you did learn.
- 1:12:23So I'm really excited.
- 1:12:24Yeah, we got some good feedback from people there
- 1:12:27that were watching our clips
- 1:12:28that are loving what we're doing.
- 1:12:32I've never been more sure that what we're doing
- 1:12:35in talking about politics
- 1:12:36and making sure we put it into our platform
- 1:12:39and in what is as important as it is
- 1:12:41and as valuable as it is.
- 1:12:42I've never been more sure of that than I am now.
- 1:12:45And now I'm in contact with governors and senators, baby.
- 1:12:50We're hitting the big time, baby.
- 1:12:51Come on now.
- 1:12:52We're in big time.
- 1:12:53I'm for real now.
- 1:12:54I've got friends who got millions of followers.
- 1:12:56We're coastal elites now.
- 1:12:58You know, I was networking.
- 1:13:00I was having drinks with some of your favorites
- 1:13:02on the internet.
- 1:13:03I love that.
- 1:13:04I love that.
- 1:13:05And that's how you make things happen.
- 1:13:06That's how it works these days.
- 1:13:07I said, I was saying during the thing,
- 1:13:09I was like, it's so annoying how we do,
- 1:13:10we have all of these like events at this conference,
- 1:13:13but the real, it's so cliche,
- 1:13:14the real networking happens when you're later after
- 1:13:17the whole thing, when you're out at the bars.
- 1:13:19That's where it all happens.
- 1:13:21Networking happens in three plus.
- 1:13:23Bars, golf courses.
- 1:13:26Where's the third one?
- 1:13:27There's a third one in there.
- 1:13:27Strip clubs.
- 1:13:28Yeah, not me, man.
- 1:13:29I had a bad experience when I was 19
- 1:13:31that I tried to avoid, like at all costs.
- 1:13:33Wait, that's funny because Chris did too.
- 1:13:35Yeah, bad experience at 19.
- 1:13:36Was it all nude?
- 1:13:39I don't remember.
- 1:13:40I honestly can't remember.
- 1:13:42But I remember it being a horrible experience.
- 1:13:44And I think since then,
- 1:13:46I think I've been to a strip club two or three times.
- 1:13:49Because there's one strip club in Reno
- 1:13:50that has unbelievable food.
- 1:13:52Yeah, like the Magic City Wings.
- 1:13:54Yeah, no, I swear to God, this place in Reno,
- 1:13:57because I played baseball in Reno,
- 1:13:58after games, I would go by there on the way home.
- 1:14:01Because you ever see Shoresie?
- 1:14:02It's like the Colson.
- 1:14:03It's like one side's a restaurant,
- 1:14:04the other side's a strip club.
- 1:14:06And it was great.
- 1:14:08I fucking love that place.
- 1:14:09Gotta get the burger.
- 1:14:10Dude, the food is fucking great.
- 1:14:12I ate there like most nights.
- 1:14:13That's really funny.
- 1:14:14It's fucking phenomenal.
- 1:14:16That was the most annoying part,
- 1:14:18was every night when I was so tired
- 1:14:19and didn't want to go back out.
- 1:14:20I'm like, well, this is how I'm going to meet people.
- 1:14:22And I wasn't wrong.
- 1:14:23I was not wrong.
- 1:14:24That was where everything happened,
- 1:14:25where everything went down.
- 1:14:26And you know, there's a bunch of stuff
- 1:14:27that we're all going to keep between each other.
- 1:14:28We have, you know, we have really, we formed bonds.
- 1:14:31I love that.
- 1:14:32I love that.
- 1:14:33Well, good for you.
- 1:14:34Do you have anything to report about while I was gone?
- 1:14:36You know what?
- 1:14:37Really, the only thing to report
- 1:14:38is I've really enjoyed my new schedule.
- 1:14:42I've enjoyed this new gig.
- 1:14:44It's like a, listen, it's a dream come true.
- 1:14:47It's an opportunity, but it's an opportunity.
- 1:14:48Like that's the thing that I think a lot of people
- 1:14:50get lost when they get into these gigs.
- 1:14:53It was a lot of work to get that spot.
- 1:14:56Now the work actually begins.
- 1:14:58And now it's a real, like, you know, it's a responsibility.
- 1:15:01It's an opportunity and it's fun.
- 1:15:05I want to handle this how I handle all of my shit.
- 1:15:08Like, I don't want to be hot take guy.
- 1:15:10I've never, I, the one thing I've-
- 1:15:13Who wants that either?
- 1:15:14Yeah, no, I'm a massive pushback on that shit.
- 1:15:18Like, it's so funny.
- 1:15:18My counterpart in New York is WFAN.
- 1:15:21WFAN and me are not the same.
- 1:15:24Oh, and EDI in Boston, right?
- 1:15:25EDI in Boston, and IP in, but those things are not me.
- 1:15:30Like, I am not doom and gloom.
- 1:15:32I'm here trying to tell you all, calm the fuck down.
- 1:15:35Like, you guys don't seem to get, this shit's hard.
- 1:15:38And I want to, like, DeFish and I are like,
- 1:15:40trying to like, we want to educate fans.
- 1:15:43We want it to be fucking fun.
- 1:15:44Yeah, we want it to be fun.
- 1:15:45Well, you're two former athletes
- 1:15:45with a lot of experience in different parts of the games.
- 1:15:47So like, what's the point in you two
- 1:15:49becoming hot take guys assholes?
- 1:15:51Yeah, and that's just not who we are.
- 1:15:52I want people to be a better-
- 1:15:54You're just two nice guys
- 1:15:55with not a lot of hair between the two of you.
- 1:15:57No, dude, that's what sucks.
- 1:15:58I couldn't get a comb through this five years ago.
- 1:16:00Tanya, you should have seen me.
- 1:16:02I don't need it.
- 1:16:02I think, I genuinely think-
- 1:16:03I was fucking handsome.
- 1:16:04No, I genuinely think this is a look.
- 1:16:07I appreciate that.
- 1:16:08You understand, you never,
- 1:16:09I know your mother is being haunted by Jay Decker,
- 1:16:12but when I look in the mirror-
- 1:16:13I know he had lettuce, I know.
- 1:16:14You have no idea how much I look in the mirror.
- 1:16:15I'm like, fuck, that's Jay.
- 1:16:17That is not it.
- 1:16:18That is just, I hate how much I look like Jay Decker.
- 1:16:21Okay, well, I've seen pictures of your father.
- 1:16:24I think you look great.
- 1:16:26Thank you, very kind of you.
- 1:16:26You do not need the hair.
- 1:16:28That being said, yes, it's been an incredible time.
- 1:16:32You know, getting back in the daily,
- 1:16:34not the daily grind,
- 1:16:35just the daily rotation of daily radio,
- 1:16:38and especially six to 10, which is like the spot.
- 1:16:42I'm like honored to do it.
- 1:16:43I got to be the first voice on this channel.
- 1:16:46And that is just like, I got to pinch myself
- 1:16:48because there aren't a lot of these jobs.
- 1:16:50Like, there just aren't.
- 1:16:51No, I know, I'm finding that out.
- 1:16:53I'm currently figuring, you know, I've got a plan.
- 1:16:56Now, I've got a plan.
- 1:16:57I think it's going to work.
- 1:16:58I believe it.
- 1:16:59I don't think I'm going to need it.
- 1:17:00I don't think I'm going to need an employer,
- 1:17:01but it's going to require a lot of work.
- 1:17:03Work I want to do.
- 1:17:04You and I both love work.
- 1:17:05Both very much love work.
- 1:17:06That's the thing is we both like working.
- 1:17:08If you're going to get up at 4 a.m.
- 1:17:09and have to go into work every day, that's, I get it.
- 1:17:11Like I was doing that all.
- 1:17:13I love, I love work.
- 1:17:15And I love doing it in LA, like at my home.
- 1:17:17Like, dude, this is, this doesn't happen to everybody.
- 1:17:20And I know that.
- 1:17:21So I'm very, I'm very appreciative of the opportunity.
- 1:17:23I'm very lucky for it.
- 1:17:24And dude, I hope people who find me here
- 1:17:28will love to check out what I'm doing on the band.
- 1:17:30I hope people do because yeah,
- 1:17:32what you're doing over there with Derek Fisher is,
- 1:17:34and it's fun.
- 1:17:35It's something different.
- 1:17:36If you like Cody, it's more Cody,
- 1:17:38but just with some, you know,
- 1:17:39a little bit of an extra twist.
- 1:17:40Yeah, it's a lot more of a, you know,
- 1:17:42it's a lot more of a different vibe.
- 1:17:43He's not yelling as much.
- 1:17:44I'm not yelling nearly as much.
- 1:17:45I'm not as angry on that show.
- 1:17:47That being said, I do get pissed off.
- 1:17:48I can't help it.
- 1:17:50At the end of the day, it is me.
- 1:17:51It's always there.
- 1:17:52At the end of the day, I can't stop being me.
- 1:17:54But either way, I mean, either way, we're both really,
- 1:17:55I think the moral of the story of Catch Up Corners,
- 1:17:57we're both really grateful for the opportunities
- 1:17:59that we're getting, where things are landing us,
- 1:18:02and kind of what's in store for the future.
- 1:18:05And we really, we're really excited
- 1:18:07about what we're doing here.
- 1:18:09Like-
- 1:18:10We've got plans.
- 1:18:11We're only gonna keep building this for,
- 1:18:12I hope, years to come, and turn this into something
- 1:18:15that we're really proud of. I'm doing this podcast
- 1:18:15until I'm 70.
- 1:18:17I have no, I'm not going anywhere.
- 1:18:18No need to stop.
- 1:18:19I built this fucking studio.
- 1:18:21We're using it.
- 1:18:21This is, oh yes.
- 1:18:23No, and I'm, and eventually I might have to live here.
- 1:18:25So, just, you know.
- 1:18:27It's a pull-out couch.
- 1:18:28That's what I'm saying.
- 1:18:29You know, I don't know where the economic status
- 1:18:31of this country is going.
- 1:18:32Rents, you know, you never know what happens.
- 1:18:34I might have to live in that green room.
- 1:18:36Inherited house wealth.
- 1:18:38So, I gotcha.
- 1:18:39That's what I'm talking about.
- 1:18:40So, listen, it's been fun,
- 1:18:42and I'm really excited about the future of it.
- 1:18:44I'm excited for the opportunities.
- 1:18:45I mean, there's also cool things that I get to do.
- 1:18:47Like, I saw Death Cab for Cutie this week in the K-Rock,
- 1:18:49like, in the In-N-Out soundstage.
- 1:18:52Oh, that's awesome.
- 1:18:53That's where, okay.
- 1:18:54It was like a, it was a very intimate show
- 1:18:56where they played for an hour, and like-
- 1:18:57One of these times I would like to be around
- 1:18:59for these things so I can like-
- 1:19:01You can go.
- 1:19:02I'll bring you.
- 1:19:02Yeah, I need to go.
- 1:19:04You know what I want?
- 1:19:05I'm gonna request ahead of time.
- 1:19:06Anytime you're in a luxury box for a basketball game
- 1:19:09or a football game-
- 1:19:10Oh, you're it.
- 1:19:11You're it.
- 1:19:12No, I think I can go to the Sparks a lot
- 1:19:13because I actually, fuck it,
- 1:19:14I'm not going to the Sparks.
- 1:19:15In, okay.
- 1:19:15All right, we're going to the Sparks.
- 1:19:16So, that's, I'm grabbing my spot for one of those.
- 1:19:18Okay.
- 1:19:19Done and done.
- 1:19:19You guys heard it.
- 1:19:20If he backs out on it, you're my-
- 1:19:22I'm not gonna back out on it.
- 1:19:22They gave me a Sparks ticket.
- 1:19:23No, you're very-
- 1:19:24They gave me a Sparks ticket.
- 1:19:25You're pretty generous.
- 1:19:26Jesus Christ.
- 1:19:27Fuck.
- 1:19:27Listen, I know it's, since we took Monday off,
- 1:19:30we didn't get an opportunity to get into the bloody sock.
- 1:19:32It's, listen, we promise we're going to get into it.
- 1:19:34In fact, we're going to do it on Monday.
- 1:19:36We've never lied to you before about this.
- 1:19:37I don't know why you wouldn't believe us now.
- 1:19:39I don't know why you feel like Charlie Brown
- 1:19:41and we're Lucy pulling the ball.
- 1:19:42When we do eventually have this conversation,
- 1:19:44I mean, you're not quite ready for it.
- 1:19:45And I think maybe that's why we're putting it off
- 1:19:46because we don't want to get in a fight.
- 1:19:47We just got back together.
- 1:19:48It's just, we just don't want to get in a fight.
- 1:19:50It wasn't blood and fuck Kurt Schilling.
- 1:19:51Fuck Kurt Schilling.
