- 0:00Hello and welcome to the Everyday Eurasia podcast,
- 0:04Inspiring Faith for Every Day. Each day we are on a journey
- 0:08with Jesus in our churches, our homes, our workplaces, and in so
- 0:13many different places around the world.
- 0:16Is it beautiful that no matter where we are, we can walk with
- 0:20him every single day? Jesus is the one who connects us
- 0:24all and stands at the very center of our lives day after
- 0:28day. Through this podcast, you'll
- 0:30hear voices from across the region sharing devotionals that
- 0:34reminds us of God's presence in our everyday moments.
- 0:43This week we're joining NYI Nesrin Youth international
- 0:47Eurasia. Young people from across the
- 0:50region will be sharing their stories in daily devotionals,
- 0:54voices from Scotland to India. Today we're joined by Jarius
- 0:58Jerius serves as the Social Media Manager for NYI Eurasia,
- 1:03where he works closely with young people across the region
- 1:06to tell stories of faith, leadership, and creativity.
- 1:10Passionate about amplifying young voices in the life of the
- 1:14Church, he believes young people are not just the future, but the
- 1:18presence of God's mission. Through digital storytelling,
- 1:22podcast, and short films, Jarius is committed to creating spaces
- 1:26where youth can share their testimonies and live out their
- 1:30calling. Hello everyone, My name is
- 1:32Jerius and I serve as the Social Media Manager for NYU Radio.
- 1:37Today, I would love to reflect with you on something very close
- 1:41to my heart amplifying young voices in the life and mission
- 1:45of the church. I'm speaking not only as someone
- 1:49who works with youth, but as a young person myself.
- 1:53When we talk about young people in the church, we often hear the
- 1:57phrase the next generation. But I truly believe this is
- 2:02incomplete. Young people are not just the
- 2:05future of the church, they are the church now.
- 2:09They are worship leaders, creators, servants, thinkers.
- 2:14They are the next pastors, district superintendents,
- 2:17missionaries, and leaders. But they are also leaders today.
- 2:23God is already shaping the church and the world through
- 2:26young people. Not later, not someday.
- 2:30Now. Our role as a wider church is
- 2:33not to wait until young people are ready.
- 2:36Our role is to trust them, walk with them, and make space for
- 2:40them. If we truly want to amplify
- 2:44young voices, then we must do more than encourage them with
- 2:48words. We must give young people real
- 2:51responsibility, invite them into discussion making.
- 2:55Let them try, lead for, fail, learn and grow.
- 2:59Help them see the wider church beyond their local context.
- 3:05This means giving young people tasks, yes, but also giving them
- 3:09opportunities. Opportunities to serve,
- 3:12opportunities to lead, Opportunities to be part of
- 3:15something bigger than themselves.
- 3:17Most important, we must give them platforms.
- 3:20Platforms to share their testimonies, their creativity,
- 3:24their theology, their question, and their faith in their own
- 3:29voices. I want to share a short personal
- 3:34story. From a young age I love two
- 3:37things, technology and creativity.
- 3:39I loved social media, technical work, filmmaking, and even
- 3:43before that I loved writing poems.
- 3:46What changed my life was not just discovering these passions
- 3:51but having a pastor who saw them.
- 3:53Every time there was a celebration in the church, I
- 3:56would go to him and say I wrote a poem and he took me seriously.
- 4:01He would say, OK, yes, I will give you 5 or 10 minutes on the
- 4:06stage. Share it.
- 4:07Even when there were leadership program that technically
- 4:11required participation to be over 18, he would come to me and
- 4:16say I see leadership on you. I want you to attend.
- 4:20Later, when I wanted to study filmmaking, Even so, it was
- 4:24difficult and uncertain. He told me.
- 4:27We will support you. We will give you the resources
- 4:31to study what you love. That trust changed everything.
- 4:36And years later, when I start serving with NYU Eurasia, I
- 4:40experienced that same trust again.
- 4:43I was given a space to think creatively, to dream.
- 4:47Together we say, let's create a podcast where young people can
- 4:51share their stories. Let's use video and audio to
- 4:55amplify youth voices. Then we dreamed Even Bigger, a
- 5:00library of short films and documentaries telling the story
- 5:04of young people and what God is doing in their lives.
- 5:08And that door was opened. Today, when I meet young people
- 5:13who have ideas for social media content and creative projects, I
- 5:18see something beautiful. When youth share testimonies
- 5:22online, when they create art videos or reflections, they
- 5:27encourage other young people because youth listen to youth.
- 5:34If we are honest, young voices are no longer found on radio or
- 5:38television. They are found on Instagram,
- 5:41TikTok, Facebook, creative digital spaces.
- 5:45They are not distractions, they are mission fields.
- 5:49If we don't give young people space to share the gospel
- 5:53through the platforms they already live in, then we are not
- 5:58truly amplifying their voices. And if we don't invite them to
- 6:02lead at camps and projects and churches and regional spaces, we
- 6:08are holding back something God wants to release.
- 6:13So this is my invitation from a young person to young people and
- 6:18to all leaders listening today. Give young people space.
- 6:22Give them trust. Give them room to be creative.
- 6:26Let themselves with what they love.
- 6:28Let them lead with the gifts God has given them.
- 6:32Because when we amplify young voices, we are not losing
- 6:36control of the church. We are participating in God's
- 6:41work. Let's pray.
- 6:46God, thank you for the young people you are raising in your
- 6:51church. Thank you for their creativity,
- 6:54their their courage, their faith, and their questions.
- 7:00Teach us to listen. Teach us to trust.
- 7:03Teach us to make space. May your church be a place where
- 7:08every young voice is heard, valued and empowered.
- 7:12And maybe have the humility to walk alongside the leaders you
- 7:17are already forming in Jesus name.
- 7:20And. Thank you for listening to the
