- 0:00M. Turn Flory, Podcast, Hunter's Garber, Niggie, Austin Rose,
- 0:21the Code of Free Tag. Das got two pages of notes tonight. Also
- 0:25can't figure out how to turn his phone on do not disturb, so apologize
- 0:30for the buzzing. Dax's you've got two pages of notes. We better get
- 0:33through them all. So start us off with your number one talking point on
- 0:36your note card. Well, all right, I'll start us out number one.
- 0:41Here we go. Louisiana Tech coach said they are Nebraska's totally different team
- 0:46because they don't turn the ball over. Now, I won't name names,
- 0:49but Sam's maybe you just named names. Also, that's your first line on
- 0:56your note to Like, I'm prepping for this game, and you you dug
- 1:00down and you found a quote from Louisiana Tech head coach. Props to you,
- 1:03Dak, Yep. I've been looking. I'm looking for newspapers from these
- 1:07last few teams. They don't write any news about either of them. It's
- 1:10it's just you gotta dig deep. Who is Louisiana Tech's head coach? See
- 1:17if you didn't know, I didn't dig that deep. You just know their
- 1:21coach said it. I watched the clips I know it's real, but what
- 1:27did the guy look like? Honestly homeless? He did not look good,
- 1:34long hair, sunny comby. Oh that's okay. Yeah, I did read
- 1:42about him. He's a Texas tech guy. Yep. I didn't know if
- 1:45you knew that or not. I was testing your brain. I read about
- 1:49him. I just don't remember his name, honestly, don't remember after you
- 1:53said it. Well, at least we got their dack's number one point here.
- 1:59I have a few things written down here too, And the first big
- 2:04topic that I want to hit on before we preview Louisiana tech is a topic
- 2:08of fandom and just let's just dig deep like we do every year. And
- 2:15so why we do a podcast? Why we're fans of the Huskers and are
- 2:19an abusive relationship. Austin's rolling his eyes. He already knows where this is
- 2:23going. Why are we fans of sports teams? Well, here's why.
- 2:29Because we set expectations. We try to predict what's going to happen for the
- 2:34year, and then we have joy or sadness or emotion after what actually happens
- 2:38play out. So every year, you know, you go into the year,
- 2:43you think, here's how we should play this year, here's what our
- 2:46record should be, and unfortunately, for Husker fans, we've probably been below
- 2:52that for everybody. Now, is that the fans fault? Is it the
- 2:55player's fault? I don't know. Is the coach's fault? I don't know.
- 3:00But here we are. We are three games in and all these expectations
- 3:07and thoughts and predictions that we make they can be adjusted, and they are
- 3:10constantly adjusting every week. Right, we make a prediction for the game that
- 3:15in the upcoming week, we think about, you know, what we can
- 3:17do the rest of the year, We think about where we're going to be
- 3:20in three or five years. We do all of that in our brains when
- 3:23you're a fan of a team, if you're a true fan. I don't
- 3:25know if Dac does that for OU, for the Celtics or any of them,
- 3:29but da titles it's all he thinks about. So every fourth of the
- 3:37year. So we're three games in, I want to do this, so
- 3:38we'll do it a couple more times. I want to kind of reassess everybody's
- 3:43expectations on where we were at at the beginning of the year and where we're
- 3:49at now. I will say, I have been oh for three on game
- 3:53by game expectations. I thought we were going to get killed by Minnesota.
- 3:57I thought we were gonna eat Colorado, and I thought last week's game was
- 3:59going to be close. So I'm an over there. But from a overall
- 4:05season standpoint, I think we're pretty much in line from what I was thinking
- 4:13going into the year. Austin, where's your head at? Yeah, I
- 4:17mean I think from my preseason thought. You know, we kind of thought
- 4:23there's potential to before no going into Michigan, but realistically we thought we were
- 4:26going to lose one of the first two games. We ended up losing the
- 4:29two first two games, but we're very competitive in one of them. But
- 4:33I probably agree we're one and two. I expect us to be two and
- 4:36one at this point. The only expectation that changed was I did not expect
- 4:42our defense to look as good as it has, and I have not expected
- 4:45our offense to look as bad as it has. But I kind of balanced
- 4:48it out to where we're pretty much to where I thought we'd be. I
- 4:51like that because you can break it down however you want, by player by
- 4:56game, by game, by position, however you want to do. It,
- 5:00but for sure, I don't think anybody saw our defense looking the way
- 5:03it has through three games. And I which hindsight looking at just who got
- 5:09the single digit jerseys, because it was what eight of the nine of them
- 5:12were all defense or whatever. It was seven of the nine. I don't
- 5:15remember how much, but it was a large portion of the defensive players got
- 5:18the jerseys. We probably should have seen it coming a little better, but
- 5:21yeah, we looked very good, So that's a plus. The turnover piece
- 5:27I think is lower, but dak over here, you know you expected that
- 5:30from Jeff Sims, So maybe that's just right a lot. No, it's
- 5:34it's deadline. But I thought was gonna happen. I knew I was gonna
- 5:41happen right away. I did not I have the same exact notes right now.
- 5:45The defense not thinks would be as good from the offense. I thought
- 5:47it was gonna be a lot better. But yeah, I did not think
- 5:51I should have known about Sadderfield coming in. I forgot how Baddy West South
- 5:55Carolina and he just read lot road live along what I thought was going to
- 6:00happen. And I think Husker fans across the board are known for their unrealistic
- 6:10expectations. And we've talked about that a lot on this podcast, and I
- 6:15think there's a little bit of just hesitation this year with what happened with Frost,
- 6:21and I know there definitely has been with myself. I just have not
- 6:26been able to fully jump in and believe that we can win nine or ten
- 6:30games every year. So reality of the situation where four or five one football
- 6:35team. Now, that being said, at the beginning of the year,
- 6:39yeah, I think about everybody thought we were going to be two and one.
- 6:43I also don't think anybody there may be a few believers that thought Colorado
- 6:46is gonna be three and oh, and I think you have to also look
- 6:53at not only where we are at, but also the teams that we're playing
- 6:57against. How are they performing relative to expectation. So yeah, for where
- 7:02we're at now, I would say we're not far off. I think,
- 7:05yeah, there's some balance between our offense and defense, one being a lot
- 7:09better than the other from where we thought it was going to be. But
- 7:12now I guess resetting our expectations for the rest of the year based on what
- 7:16we know. What we do know is the Big ten West is absolutely horrible
- 7:23and we think, you know, I think we all talk, you know,
- 7:27winning six games would be a good year. But I don't think it
- 7:30was unrealistic to look at it and think that there's potential to win eight or
- 7:33I'm not gonna say nine, but they're digital win more and then. But
- 7:36also at the same time, depending on how the year went, could have
- 7:40win three or four, I would say, looking at the rest of our
- 7:43schedule, just going through them. Here, there's nine games left Michigan expectation.
- 7:49Stop me if you guys are changing your dots here, but Michigan nothing
- 8:00win. Yeah, you did say that, and I believe that. I
- 8:09don't even know yeps, Like going into Colorado game that we punted four a
- 8:15time. If Colorado punted four times, we would win. I didn't expect.
- 8:18Also, I didn't expect the meltdown. That's true. Well what's gonna
- 8:24happen when we melt down against Michigan. Didn't expect that one. So Michigan
- 8:33loss, I don't think, I mean, could be ugly. I don't
- 8:37think that's changed. Illinois. That was one game that I was like,
- 8:41I was high on Illinois and I thought that was almost for sure loss.
- 8:46Now it's a question mark. I think we can go out and win that
- 8:48game potentially. Northwestern I think was a win coming into the year, and
- 8:54I think it's still win perdue. I thought it was gonna be tougher than
- 8:58they are. Again, if we're really where we think we're at, I
- 9:03mean purdues under under exceeding, underperforming, Michigan States underperforming. Maryland probably hasn't
- 9:11done. I don't think they've played anybody. Wisconsin's underperforming Iowa. I guess
- 9:16you could say maybe it's overperforming, but not really. I don't know.
- 9:18So if you're looking at it from that standpoint, like if you're expected win
- 9:22total was six and a half, like the teams on our schedule, maybe
- 9:28could raise that a half for a full win. Now, we haven't gotten
- 9:33into the big news of the week that I think puts a little bit of
- 9:35a halt to that is our two running backs being out for the year.
- 9:41I think that might be worth a half a game the other way because it
- 9:46gets into the maybe the lack of depth now that we have at that position.
- 9:52Emmett Johnson and helped me with the other guy, Premier. Johnson gave
- 9:58Irving, no, you're talking out yes, right, yep. So we
- 10:07got a couple of guys that I've never played a snap and Anthony Grant's going
- 10:11to be the number one guy. How many characters are you gonna get?
- 10:13I don't know, so you have to factor that too. But I mean,
- 10:16overall, guys, looking at the rest of the year, from where
- 10:20we're at a quarter of the way through the season, I think that the
- 10:24expectation might have gone up for what we potentially could do. Even though we
- 10:28are one and two right now, and we thought we should be two and
- 10:31one. What was the win total at the beginning of the year and six
- 10:37and a HALFSI thought it was probably should have been five and a half.
- 10:43Is that an unfair statement? I seem to remember when we were talking,
- 10:46is like, if we get six wins, that's a good year. Five
- 10:48wins realistically, Yeah, I think six and halp was pretty hight theginning of
- 10:52the year. Yeah, I would have bet that under I mean, and
- 10:56we were being the not drinking the kool aid, the rule aid and still
- 11:03trying not to hear, but we are coming off win at Memorial Stadium and
- 11:07it felt good to walk out of the stadium feeling good for one so that's
- 11:11where all the positivities coming from. But at the same time, right like
- 11:15these other teams in the Big ten Wests are not looking hot either, so
- 11:20it makes these games so much more winnable and still actually frustrate to even more
- 11:24that we lost to Minnesota and that Week one game because god damn with the
- 11:30defense. Yes, like our offense doesn't look good, but if your defense
- 11:33is going against if a good defense is going against bad offenses, a bad
- 11:37offense can win you a game. So that's where the hope comes into play,
- 11:41because it's like, well, if we hold them all the ten points
- 11:43a game, we can muster two touchdowns maybe, Like that's not out of
- 11:50the realm of possibility. That's optimism. Yeah. And that's not to say
- 11:56that we're going to win all these games either. I just think that they
- 11:58are. They are games that we should be in a dog fight with,
- 12:05just like the Minnesota game was. And if we can find a way to
- 12:09flip the script and win a few of those, then the record we're gonna
- 12:13like the record where we're at. But if this year of the building culture
- 12:20thing continues on throughout the whole year, and I mean that ties into all
- 12:24the patients and talk that we've had before. If that continues, then yeah,
- 12:30we're probably not going to get to six wins. We're probably going to
- 12:33only win three or four. But I just think it's a good it's a
- 12:35good exercise to do for fans of any team, right to kind of look
- 12:41back and level set where your head was at before certain things happen, and
- 12:46then what reality play its way through, and then and see how things have
- 12:50changed. Because being a fan of a team, it plays with your emotion.
- 12:56It just it takes a toll on. Yeah, it can be can
- 12:58be a little bit hurtful sometimes not speaking from experience at all, Right,
- 13:03Dak, Yeah, with this schedule, if you don't make a ball game,
- 13:09I think that's a huge disappointment. I wouldn't say huge disappointment. I
- 13:13think all those teams besides Iowa Michigan and I think it was confident terrible.
- 13:20I think all the restaurant just got awful. Yeah, and they're not good.
- 13:24And the counter argument to that is that we're not good either, So
- 13:28yeah, I mean huge disappointment. Maybe I think the more disappointment is would
- 13:33be that this slow building rebuild of a culture is going to take longer than
- 13:41we thought or could take longer, and then you also start doubting if it's
- 13:46ever going to work. I think if we don't make a ball game,
- 13:48those questions start to pop up towards the end of the year and then into
- 13:52the off season. And that's why at the season predictions are game by game
- 13:58importance whatever. That's why I had some those games at the end towards the
- 14:01top is that that's going to tell us a lot about what we learned in
- 14:07this year one rebuild, and we're gonna know even more now that these teams
- 14:11are not as good as we thought they were. I think if we're getting
- 14:16blown out every game, I definitely think that if that's a very disappointing end.
- 14:22But if we win five games and don't make a bowl, I don't
- 14:26think that was out of the Like I we kind of we were talking preseason,
- 14:28that was definitely in the realm of possibility. Yeah, and everyone and
- 14:33Rule keeps telling us, hey, this is a slow build. We're not
- 14:37this isn't an overnight fix. And he keeps saying, my first year we
- 14:39usually win won two games. Well, he's been upfront about that message the
- 14:46whole time, and I'm sure the part of that's just covering his ass for
- 14:48when he comes out there and wins won two games in the first season,
- 14:50and it's like, well, I told you guys that this is the long
- 14:54field. But there's a reason. There's a reason they won two games of
- 14:58Baylor because he walked in after what are brows do to be? What do
- 15:01you do? That was bad? I can't remember. I don't remember either.
- 15:05He lost enough scholarships and everything. Yeah, yeah, real situations here
- 15:11is quite a bit different. You're not at Temple, and yeah, you
- 15:16didn't agree, which is why we expect more than one or two wins.
- 15:18But right to go from last year to not getting if he wants if he
- 15:24wins five games, I don't think that's a major disappointment. Dak. Let's
- 15:28get to another one of your points on your two pages here, Okay,
- 15:37second page. Do you want to do you want to dive into your talent?
- 15:43Yeah, let's jump into the talent. You tell me this is this
- 15:46is a big topic here that came up throughout the week, Dak. You
- 15:52tell me what is what is talent d to be? What does that wordy
- 15:54to be? For me? It's I test it's you can see talent on
- 15:58the field. It's all. That's all I think it is. If you
- 16:02see you can see it easily. I agree with that. That's a good
- 16:07definition. So it's just a gut, it's just that's talent. Yep.
- 16:14Jackson's Day, I said, that's talent. Okay, so tell me this
- 16:19what Now we have a we had a pull out there. We got a
- 16:25whole bunch of responses on it. Not really, but we did get some
- 16:29results back. Does this team have talent? This your dad? Yes?
- 16:38Yeah, hold on, hold on, hold on, Austin, Yeah,
- 16:42I think it does. I think where I might, where I would assess
- 16:45the talent is is different than where you guys would. But so gun into
- 16:52your head. You have to answer yes or no to this question. That's
- 16:56why I word it this way, because there's all sorts of yes, if
- 17:00or no but that you could do with this. But gun into my head.
- 17:03I'm saying no, I'm answering that question. No, But there's all
- 17:10sorts of levels and definitions to how you can describe talent. That go ahead,
- 17:18because you're gonna say something before I go on my rant. Oh,
- 17:22I was just gonna say the talent I think your talent is that tied end
- 17:27the line and linebackers. You have a couple. Okay, that's why i'd
- 17:34say your talents out this year. But yeah, yeah, I so it's
- 17:44talent compared to who relative to who? Right? That? That to me
- 17:48is the question. We don't have talent compared to Ohio State, Michigan,
- 17:56those teams. I will also say this, we don't have talent compared to
- 18:02last year's team, especially at the skill player position. We don't have a
- 18:07Tray Palmer, we don't have a wand Dale for a couple of years ago.
- 18:11Hell, we definitely don't have talented or quarterback position. Defensively, I
- 18:15would agree with you that there's some there. But overall, if you'd ask
- 18:19me if this team is talented, no, because if our team was talented,
- 18:25then if we had the talent. How I think about talent, your
- 18:30produce, your Illinois, your Northwesterns, your Maryland's, those are like automatic
- 18:34things. So going back to expectations, and I think there's a difference between
- 18:44having talent and having enough talent. You're saying there's no talent on the team,
- 18:48which is not true. I think that certain volume talent I'm saying if
- 18:52you had to answer that question yes or no. That's why I'm answered no.
- 18:57Across the board, I don't think this team has because the teams that
- 19:03even the teams that Bopolini coached, those teams had more talent because they're I
- 19:07mean there were there were like given wins just because of you look at people
- 19:15in the who go to the NFL or have gone to the NFL. They
- 19:18were in the past. There have been more NFL prospects from the teams than
- 19:21what we current coroduced the last several years. You can talk about it from
- 19:25that angle to what NFL caliber players are on this roster right now. None.
- 19:33I would argue to feel like, right like Quentin Newsom probably can make
- 19:40a squad yep, maybe yeah, he'd be the one. There's there's not
- 19:47a lot. So yeah, that's where my mind's going when I think about
- 19:51does this team have talent? Now, the flip side of that equation is
- 19:57we had we do have enough talent to beat these Big ten West schools because
- 20:02they don't have any talent either, So we do have When you talk about
- 20:07talent and say does this team have talent, we have the talent to win
- 20:11seven or eight games. That is one hundred percent true because the other teams
- 20:17that we play don't either. When was the last time Iowa had a talented
- 20:21quarterback that what we would consider talent? Maybe he made it in the NFL,
- 20:30he started in the NFL game. I guess, I mean, I
- 20:33guess. So that that is why you didn't scare you though you didn't want
- 20:38them, you weren't scared of CJ. Betther. Right, So it leaves
- 20:44about next question. Oh, good for it, go ahead, and because
- 20:48I was kind of move on. But what we're you gonna say? I
- 20:49was gonna say, honestly, probably our most talented person right now that sticks
- 20:53out to me. It's Tony White, the defensive coordinator. Yep. But
- 20:59that's it. That's all I was gonna say. I guess. Okay,
- 21:02I'm gonna do this, play this card too. I like that question our
- 21:04most talented player, dak who's our most talented player that you've seen? Being
- 21:10the big Husker fan? Are I don't Austin? I'm gonna say probably Rymer?
- 21:25Okay, I like that He's another one NFL potential there. Yeah,
- 21:32you guys are gonna laugh. What am I gonna say? Who am I
- 21:34gonna say, really yes, Dick, oh god from from a from a
- 21:44raw talent, raw talent, athletic ability to throw. It's Jeffson's now,
- 21:48decision making is not. I mean, I guess you can factor into talent
- 21:52too, But Jeff Sin's's talented if he had a brain. In my mind,
- 21:59that's what makes it rod talent, right is he? I guess when
- 22:00my definition of talent was you have the athletic ability to stand out amongst your
- 22:06peers, but you also are able to execute your role to a level better
- 22:11than your peers, and that's what makes you talented on a football field.
- 22:15He's lacking that executing better than your opponent's part. That's kind of killing him
- 22:19in every bit of the execution part. Yeah. So if he talented or
- 22:26just athletic, good point. I mean, I think athleticism plays a lot
- 22:33into that. I think when I think of talent to you, I think
- 22:37of which guys on the field can go make a play. Now, that
- 22:41might be more a playmaker versus being talented, but I mean, which guy
- 22:45has the ability to break off a sixty yard run? And Jeff Simms if
- 22:51we have one, right, Yeah, Billy Kemp I was hoping would be
- 22:55talented. But Billy Kemp can't do what like wan Dale and and Toura and
- 23:00all those guys could do. Like those guys could just fly across the middle
- 23:04and get open like Billy Kemp has shown that he's not talented enough to do
- 23:10that. So, moving on with this talent conversation, what or whose job
- 23:18is I guess this might be a very obvious answer, but to retain talent?
- 23:22Get talent first? Whose job is it to get the talent to the
- 23:26school? And then what is the best way in today's environment to retain that
- 23:30talent? So I know rules approaches. He takes athleticism because he believes he
- 23:40can coach the ball aspect of it, which would be the execution part.
- 23:45So it's obviously it's obviously rules responsibility to get and retain talent. I go
- 23:56for a dack. No, No, you got it. I said.
- 24:00There's really no other way to praise it outside of I mean you can maybe
- 24:04say, you know, positionally coached positions that they're in charge of, like
- 24:12maintaining those relationships more so than the head coach. But I'd say it ultimately
- 24:17boils up to matt rule and then as I think the who part is pretty
- 24:22obvious, and then I guess the second part of that is how like,
- 24:29I know that's very coach speak, but in today's environment, how how how
- 24:33does a school like Nebraska is supposed to retain the talent that we have and
- 24:37not have them leave the second that they get good Dak, I think the
- 24:45who a big one actually on the who is the donors with nil now,
- 24:51yeah, that's true, and retaying talents too is it's donors a lot now,
- 24:56cad you see seventh name, Uh huh. The Sims meal is no
- 25:03longer the Sims Meal at Amigos. I heard about that. I didn't know
- 25:07if that's true or not. Oh no, they got it all right,
- 25:11That's what I saw a picture on Twitter. I don't know if it's every
- 25:15Amigos that's tough, that's not good. That's that's a really good angle.
- 25:21I I agree with that it is, and that that's part of the environment
- 25:27here too that I think helps. But you have to utilize it and use
- 25:32it in the right way. We talked last time about like someone like Sims
- 25:36who comes in has not proven or shown anything and he gets all these nil
- 25:40deals. Basically handed to him. I don't think that approach is necessarily the
- 25:44right one, because now what does the guy had to work for, and
- 25:47what motivation he's getting paid? And maybe if you have an assessed your talent
- 25:51correctly, that people's motivations are just to find the biggest paycheck and go there,
- 25:56and who gives a shit what happens in the football field. I'm getting
- 25:57paid. That's anything. We can all say. That's probably not the way
- 26:03that you'd want a football program. Broun, So, I think you have
- 26:04to be careful using the nil in the correct way, especially at Nebraska where
- 26:11we do have an abundance of resources. With that, I I just want
- 26:18to add and part of my I think we rules approach might work better towards
- 26:22or tensions because he's not grabbing people who are like recruited. His approach is
- 26:29he's going to develop the town talent. He's going to take the atlases and
- 26:32develop it. And then by the time that those players actually are showing their
- 26:37skill set on the field, they have already earned their playing time and they've
- 26:41been in the program for several years, so there's a little bit more of
- 26:42a sweat equity. I think that that's the approach, and I can see
- 26:47how that, I can see the logic behind it. I'll be interesting if
- 26:49it actually plays out that way. Can that work in I'm just playing devil's
- 26:55advocate here in today's environment where it's not very common that you are going to
- 27:02a team and if you're a talented player, what we're defining is talent to
- 27:06sit behind somebody and and get better or improve the execution piece or the intangible
- 27:12piece, and then wait for a year or two until your time's up.
- 27:17Like I don't think that's a very common approach any I agree, But that's
- 27:22why he's I think his thought is we're taking the people who they're not going
- 27:26to start anywhere, Like these these guys aren't going to start anywhere just based
- 27:30off of their transferring there. They're not gonna get poached by other coaches because
- 27:36they're not on the field right now. But by the time they get on
- 27:37the field, they've already been here for a year or two, and these
- 27:42senior person who's transferred out above them opened up that window. I don't know,
- 27:48don't understand, yea. So then the hard part to that is are
- 27:51they actually talented exactly? Yeah, that developing. A perfect guy that comes
- 27:57to mind right now is a Malik Y Coleman, right, I mean,
- 28:03would we say he's a talented player? Maybe? I don't. I don't
- 28:10know if he If he is, why isn't he playing like that? That's
- 28:15the question where you know, we we talk about a guy like that in
- 28:18the offseason, how talented he is. And I say we had saying the
- 28:22media, the media hypes this guy up, right, and we've even hyped
- 28:26him up for three games now of we gotta get this guy the ball.
- 28:30Well maybe we don't want to get him the ball? Well what what?
- 28:33What's the what? What's the reasoning here? Like? Is is he not
- 28:37as talented as we thought he was? Is he? You know what I
- 28:41mean? Like that? That's why this topic so intriguing. Another question that
- 28:45came to mind as I was thinking about this, Dak, would you say
- 28:48our teams in the nineties had talent? Yeah, you have to have talent,
- 28:53Dwayne Titles, I'd agree agree with you on that. What's funny though,
- 29:02is that where'd that talent come from? A lot of especially on the
- 29:04line, they were the in state pipeline guys. Now, the time periods
- 29:07are very different, right, But it's just an interesting topic that comes up.
- 29:15I guess all the time. And the last question I have on this
- 29:18to finish this talent discussion up, because we spent about the whole podcast talking
- 29:22about it. Is it okay if talent leads? I mean, it depends
- 29:32depends on what your program is, all right. If you're a Bama,
- 29:36yeah you've been a Braska. No, no, because we're not getting that
- 29:40talented. If it's rules system. It takes years to develop the talent.
- 29:45So is it okay that Casey Thompson left? Well, I finally got the
- 29:52news from cleansing reporter. He's out for the year. So yeah, so
- 29:56it's okay because he got hurt. Yeah, he wanted to play it all
- 30:00year. You would have for three games. I think that's what That's the
- 30:07hard part, right is you have to retain those guys. And we can
- 30:12talk and make this as complicated as we want, but guys, it comes
- 30:15down to one thing, it really does. It's winning. It comes down
- 30:19to winning and if you win, get people are going to stay. So
- 30:23we can be as patient as we want with the coaching staff like this,
- 30:30but at the same time, you don't win, you're losing those players,
- 30:33and it's no longer a rebuild, incaa anymore like it as much as people
- 30:41every step forward, it's still kind of two steps back, it is,
- 30:45because it's just a constant. Yeah, it's a great way of putting it.
- 30:48You take a step forward, great, but if you're not doing everything
- 30:52right, like those guys are leaving, those guys are gone. So I
- 30:56just want it kind of made a big circle go on my mind and like,
- 31:00oh, well, okay, so how much patience or what do we
- 31:03expect or what do we need to happen out of this year for rule to
- 31:07make this thing work? Because if we win four games this year, it's
- 31:10gonna be hard to believe that we're gonna win more. I mean we're going
- 31:12to people are going to believe it. That's what Husker fans do. But
- 31:17I just have to remember that if people leave, is it okay if talent
- 31:22leaves, because I think we all say no, like that's not it's not
- 31:23okay. But it will happen. If we're not winning games, it will
- 31:27Well, we're gonna be Louisiana Tech, so we'll be Louisiana Text becaust the
- 31:33three this year. I don't know. I saw the ranked higher in PFF
- 31:37rankings. All right, dad, give us your Louisiana Tech preview. Nowy
- 31:42you know they're head coach? All right, well this all this is all
- 31:45I got wrote down here. They ranked sixty eighth and the PFF rankings.
- 31:51Nebraska's won of eight. So maybe take Louisian Tech money line right there,
- 31:56and they like to play fast. Their quarterback can't be worse than Rocky.
- 32:04That's that's my guy. And then the coldest Crawford game? How many passes
- 32:09as the coldest Crawford caught this season? Zero? But he's played all four
- 32:14games zero passes. That's right, what's the coldest Crawford? Talented? I
- 32:22don't know if he's not. He got an IL deal. He didn't play
- 32:28a snap. True, So Louisiana Tech DAK, as he mentioned, is
- 32:34going to run and gun it. They're gonna run a lot of plays.
- 32:38Back to what the three three five is supposed to defend. It's supposed to
- 32:42defend that. Their quarterback is Hank Bachmeyer, another guy that seems like,
- 32:45good God, he's been in the league for who knows how long? I
- 32:51did hear he got hurt in their last game. So Jack Turner did come
- 32:55in and play, but expect one of those guys Hank Bach Meyers at Boise
- 33:00State for a while. If you guys remember that. I don't think he
- 33:02got very high praise there either. But yeah, they're gonna they're gonna throw
- 33:07it. They're gonna run tempo, and the weather right now is supposed to
- 33:15be rainy and windy, so that should play into our favor. I don't
- 33:21know, I don't know what on the offensive side, Austin, Who's gonna
- 33:25who who are we seeing? What's the plan from our offense? Well,
- 33:30we're gonna see Hindrick Harbird, and we're gonna see Anthony Grant, and we're
- 33:35gonna run the ball freaking every down. Even though Sudderfield came out and said
- 33:38we won't even passed the ball more, it's like, have you seen what
- 33:42we're passing? There? You go, that's not what we want. So
- 33:49I think it'll be Hardbird and I think it'll be Anthony Grant just getting a
- 33:52bulk of the carries. No mention of Jeff since no Jeff sims I.
- 34:01So I don't know where your guys is my Oh, I know where Dax's
- 34:06minds at sounds like Austin said on Harbor guys, I I think we need
- 34:09to play them both. I think they both and as long as Sim's health
- 34:16is fine right now with this game, do we get cute and know we
- 34:24have Michigan coming up next week and try to not saying experiment but Sadderfield's comments,
- 34:30if we need to throw the ball, okay, like maybe to give
- 34:34Michigan something to see and and look at and be harder to prepare for,
- 34:38because you know, Harbor, with the suspension, all he's been doing is
- 34:42fucking sitting on his couch watching Rutgers Nebraska film. Probably not even Rutgers film,
- 34:46just Nebraska film. Will hell, maybe he skipped over us too,
- 34:52and just studying our defense and how he's gonna beat it so we can laugh
- 34:59and joke that they we can be creative, but like maybe just win the
- 35:04game and yep, win the game by running. I don't know if you're
- 35:08good enough to be creative. I'm I'm with you. I don't know that
- 35:15that's what we want to do at this point. Some you know, I
- 35:19think I've heard some podcasts say we want to, you know, help Jeff
- 35:22Simms and Hardberg, like throw it down the field more so they get that
- 35:24exposure because we're going to have to do it against in the Big ten.
- 35:29Like, I don't believe that they're not good at it. Don't force them
- 35:32to do something they're not good at. On the flip side, if we're
- 35:37shorter running back, I'm not saying put those guys at running back, but
- 35:42have the have designed quarterback runs for a series, Like give jeff Simms a
- 35:45package. If Jeffson isn't going to be our starter, give him a package
- 35:49where he comes in in the second quarter and runs the ball four times and
- 35:52then, yeah, you can throw it a couple of times, but make
- 35:54them like the most easy, simple passes that we can never make like.
- 36:00But I think we somehow need to incorporate both of them into our strategy or
- 36:04not saying they're they're kind of the same player a little bit because they're both
- 36:07running first quarterbacks. But give give Michigan, give these other teams something to
- 36:13prepare for. Yeah, I agree, I yeah, if Sims's helpfully to
- 36:22definitely think she both defensively, though, I think if it's raining, I
- 36:28feel like we have a pretty good shot of doing pretty well against them,
- 36:31although they do run the ball pretty well average five yards to carry. I'm
- 36:37gonna be in a piss four mood Saturday if it rains. Oh it'll be
- 36:42lovely. Dak. All right, we have to do Dak's picks. Dak,
- 36:51you got a minute, you're ready? All right? Go all right?
- 36:54First one, all you? They're fourteen half five down the fourteen,
- 36:59they're gonna kill them snatty. But by down the fourteen, next one lock
- 37:02of the week Florida State minus two, they are gonna be cleansed by twenty
- 37:06four plus next one Colorado Colorado plus twenty one and a half. They're gonna
- 37:13lose the Oregon. I don't think they'ren get blown out. I think it's
- 37:15gonna be closing what people think, Ole Miss. They're underdog six and a
- 37:20half. Dama, they're gonna win out right, but take them six and
- 37:22a half. It's one. You gotta put your you gotta put your nuts
- 37:27on table sometimes. So here we go. Notre Dame money line. They're
- 37:29gonna beat our house states and be yu over fifty four and a half.
- 37:34There's gonna be a lot of points in that game. Rutgers plus wing born
- 37:37against Michigan. I'm not breath Michigan at all. And then Texas tex Mi
- 37:44six are West Virginia and West Jian is terrible. Maryland my seven half of
- 37:47Michigan state minch states also terrible. And last one this is another lock.
- 37:52North Carolina's seven half seven half over pick hit is half terrible. We gotta
- 38:00up the picks. There is a spicy picks. But you got to Hey,
- 38:05you out for Nebraska. You got Nebraska covering the line. I don't
- 38:07remember what the line was. Twenty one Uh, I hadn't picked yes,
- 38:15oh corporations. Real quick score predictions thirty eight to ten, Nebraska twenty eight
- 38:25eight seven Nebraska forty five to three. Whoo began check you No, I'm
- 38:32getting Nebraska, all right, go big Rett. I love that burnt orange dude,
