- 0:10Speaker 1: are now watching Eating While Broke, and I'm James Andre
- 0:14Speaker 1: Jefferson Jr. James Jefferson Jr. Another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I never been that caucation. I feel like James. Just
- 0:29Speaker 1: so you guys know, Um, James took it upon himself
- 0:33Speaker 1: to really challenge my palette today. I heard I know
- 0:38Speaker 1: that you like stuff like this because you're weird. And
- 0:41Speaker 1: so I got this right here. That's a secret ingredient
- 0:44Speaker 1: and I'm scared to know what is in it. So
- 0:46Speaker 1: we got this the secret of geting, the secret agreedients,
- 0:50Speaker 1: the secret ingredients. And we have crackers because you know
- 0:53Speaker 1: I love crackers. Crackers and some of my favorite things
- 0:56Speaker 1: room his planet, and um, so I want you to
- 0:58Speaker 1: take a cracker put on your plate. We got salt it.
- 1:00Speaker 1: What were you gonna walk? The walk everybody through? What
- 1:02Speaker 1: the all the ingredients? So now this is what we
- 1:06Speaker 1: call oysters. Now this ain't the ones you get a
- 1:09Speaker 1: noboo and I'm glad you smell it. There you go, y. Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 1: So the important part is where people mess up. You
- 1:16Speaker 1: gotta you gotta drain the oils out of it. That's
- 1:19Speaker 1: a lot more than I remember back in the day.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I can't believe I used to eat this. It's like
- 1:25Speaker 1: the crackheads of the sea. So, just like a little
- 1:27Speaker 1: behind the story, James was talking about eating like romen,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, I don't everyone does romen?
- 1:33Speaker 1: You know I roll? And then I was like, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 1: what other dishes do you have? And then he came
- 1:38Speaker 1: up with this particular dish, and then I was like, man,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I should have stuck with um. It's tradition to take
- 1:44Speaker 1: a sip of good. It's my culture. You have to,
- 1:55Speaker 1: all right. So now you just trying to get me
- 1:57Speaker 1: to eat the oyster. So you have the oysters, and
- 1:59Speaker 1: here used it is everybody pretty take about two three
- 2:02Speaker 1: of them. Oh we're not even using that. No, use
- 2:06Speaker 1: your hands with no, man, this is no look I'm
- 2:08Speaker 1: gonna show you. Just go like this safe covid edistion.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Just put them on there like that looks like many
- 2:18Speaker 1: brains I'm using. Alright, fun, grab the oysters. I can't
- 2:26Speaker 1: tell you how great this texture feels. There's now oysters
- 2:30Speaker 1: and muscles are are different right. I didn't say that
- 2:34Speaker 1: about no muscles, just like they look and feel like muscle.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Is Honestly, I don't think these are oysters. They've just
- 2:40Speaker 1: been telling us this. I think this is something like
- 2:42Speaker 1: pig attistance in the sea. So now you grab the mustard.
- 2:47Speaker 1: You know, you gotta shake your mustard up because if
- 2:49Speaker 1: you don't the liquid to come out. You know, that's
- 2:51Speaker 1: a little hood tricked. N that a little much, But okay,
- 2:55Speaker 1: here you go. I mean the smell is like I was,
- 3:00Speaker 1: and she got the warmest mustard in the fan, and
- 3:04Speaker 1: then you put some hot sauce on it. Yeah, fish
- 3:07Speaker 1: your face, I disrespected me. Body, No, no, it's great, man,
- 3:12Speaker 1: this is oh yeah, so this is what you ate? Yeah,
- 3:15Speaker 1: this was. This is a little snack. My mom always
- 3:18Speaker 1: had weird, little little like pregnant white women snacks, and
- 3:22Speaker 1: this is one of them. Now I'm looking at it,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'm mad. I made this a thing. Like it's not
- 3:26Speaker 1: like this came like this. We made this a thing. Yeah,
- 3:30Speaker 1: I don't know what to call it. Didn't get another cracker. Okay,
- 3:32Speaker 1: so we're making a sandwich, oyster sandwich. You squeeze it together.
- 3:39Speaker 1: This is definitely a broke fish, because when I was
- 3:42Speaker 1: shopping for it was like extremely affordable. How much is
- 3:45Speaker 1: it cost you? I think it was like less than
- 3:47Speaker 1: five bucks? There you go, So are you ready? Chairs
- 3:52Speaker 1: you take the first? Every wanna find up sick or
- 3:55Speaker 1: with some kind of belly aches or you see any alarms.
- 3:58Speaker 1: This is this is the dish that sent me there, oyster,
- 4:03Speaker 1: hot sauce, mustard. Why don't I have to go first?
- 4:08Speaker 1: I just want to see because I ain't Here we go,
- 4:14Speaker 1: here we go. I can't appreciate it. I ain't eating
- 4:19Speaker 1: this bullshit. Let me see, I actually doesn't take that
- 4:25Speaker 1: bad good yea, now, little um see food with some
- 4:32Speaker 1: some mustard. I think the mustard set it off. Yeah,
- 4:35Speaker 1: I'm thankful you added the mustard in the hot sauce.
- 4:37Speaker 1: If you put these with an egg and a cup
- 4:39Speaker 1: of noodle, a balled egg and a cup of noodle. Fire,
- 4:44Speaker 1: Oh gosh, I see a pack of ramen on here,
- 4:48Speaker 1: and I'm terrified that that's the next Yeah, nothing wrong here.
- 4:52Speaker 1: We got one of these because we can't fit the
- 4:53Speaker 1: rest in the budget to feel like that's what we
- 4:55Speaker 1: used to do with these, so like we was back
- 4:58Speaker 1: when I was younger, we used to play outside. So
- 5:02Speaker 1: when we play outside, you have to grab a snack
- 5:04Speaker 1: real quick. Were playing high to go see we go
- 5:07Speaker 1: whatever we're doing, so we have to grab some quick.
- 5:09Speaker 1: We had a bunch of prominent guys because we're broken.
- 5:11Speaker 1: You know, you buy you buy fourty of them for
- 5:13Speaker 1: two dollars and back in the day, so you would
- 5:16Speaker 1: take to take the powder. I like how you got
- 5:19Speaker 1: chicken because I'm black and I'm black too. I know.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I just wanted to make you feel uncomfortable for a second.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I want you to question your identity. I feel like, um,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and this is gonna send sound like a general statement,
- 5:31Speaker 1: but I feel like when you're mixed, black people tends
- 5:35Speaker 1: of question blackness and the white people just only see
- 5:38Speaker 1: you as black because you like skin because any side, no,
- 5:47Speaker 1: that's not true. You know you're black. The way you'd
- 5:50Speaker 1: be dressing. You wear boots every day, the weddings, all
- 5:53Speaker 1: that Timberland's. When you broke, you probably wear them them
- 5:56Speaker 1: lug boots, boots. So when were you eating this? This
- 6:00Speaker 1: is this is when you at the house watching the movie.
- 6:05Speaker 1: My mom used as all the time. The oysters were
- 6:08Speaker 1: just a stable. When I was growing up, oysters mustard,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and my dad used to eat him too, but used
- 6:13Speaker 1: to put him in top ramen, but cooked. So this
- 6:15Speaker 1: is what I call roth. Would this be like in
- 6:18Speaker 1: your household? Would this be considered like an appetizer? Or
- 6:21Speaker 1: is this like I feel like my breath is going
- 6:24Speaker 1: to smell after you know, it did already before we started.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But but it that's not a little bit more funkier now,
- 6:32Speaker 1: But this is more of a snack. You can't get
- 6:34Speaker 1: full off this, but this you eat two, it eats
- 6:37Speaker 1: you in the game. Yeah. The scary part about what
- 6:40Speaker 1: I'm watching you do with this ramen is that there's
- 6:42Speaker 1: no boiling water. No, you don't need that. This is
- 6:45Speaker 1: you on the outside. You grab one of these, you
- 6:47Speaker 1: go outside, you go play and go seek with the homies.
- 6:50Speaker 1: So you know you're gonna go first. Why is it
- 6:54Speaker 1: I have to go first on all these dishes? I
- 6:56Speaker 1: feel like you're testing me to see silvery is a
- 7:00Speaker 1: even well, ladies go first? Man up, come on, here
- 7:05Speaker 1: we go. Mm hmm, not that bad. Look at you
- 7:10Speaker 1: hear that? You hear the crunch? It sounds like she's
- 7:11Speaker 1: chewing on rocks. You know what, I don't even know
- 7:22Speaker 1: this was possible. I don't know how I started this one.
- 7:26Speaker 1: You didn't have water or stove that poor, so like
- 7:33Speaker 1: your mom kind of taught you this. My mom and
- 7:37Speaker 1: my dad taught me into like oysters, and my mom
- 7:40Speaker 1: taught me to like put them with like mustard, and
- 7:42Speaker 1: then I put the crackers myself always, I'm always a
- 7:45Speaker 1: big card person. My mom likes oysters just by themselves.
- 7:48Speaker 1: She could just do this, dip in the hot sauce
- 7:49Speaker 1: and be good. Okay, and then and do you eat
- 7:52Speaker 1: the star deans in the can? See? I'll eat the
- 7:55Speaker 1: sardines that I can or the muscles. I didn't know
- 7:57Speaker 1: if they sold oysters like this just is crammed up
- 8:00Speaker 1: like kitty litter. Yeah, but the ramen? Did you come
- 8:05Speaker 1: up with? Romy? And rom has always been a state,
- 8:08Speaker 1: I think in every But I'm saying, did you come
- 8:10Speaker 1: up with eating it dry like a cracker? Where did
- 8:13Speaker 1: you learn that from someone? I started that on my own.
- 8:16Speaker 1: So you're taking full credit on braw Top problem. Please
- 8:20Speaker 1: don't disrespect my creation. Okay, okay, so was braw Top
- 8:25Speaker 1: problem with my thing? Because I never liked the texture
- 8:28Speaker 1: of noodles, So you don't eat spaghetti it becomes like
- 8:32Speaker 1: guard bread or something like that. I just don't like texture,
- 8:35Speaker 1: like soft textures. So when did you decide you were
- 8:37Speaker 1: going to start? Because I feel like, you know, I
- 8:39Speaker 1: look at a lot of different influencers online and you
- 8:43Speaker 1: definitely have like the most celebrity attention, celebrity input, celebrity
- 8:47Speaker 1: back and forth on your feed. When did you decide
- 8:51Speaker 1: you were going to be that man that's gonna just
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna go up and keep it all the way
- 8:57Speaker 1: real and not care if these celebrities like it or not.
- 9:01Speaker 1: So I started before I started doing um online content,
- 9:04Speaker 1: I was doing stand up comedy. I started doing it
- 9:06Speaker 1: when I was thirteen years and thirteen and a half
- 9:08Speaker 1: to be fourteen, and so I spent a lot of
- 9:11Speaker 1: time doing stand up from the age Fourtunas catched the
- 9:14Speaker 1: buses out to the comedy clubs, the high Cafe, the improv,
- 9:17Speaker 1: the ice house, all the way up nights. My mom
- 9:20Speaker 1: didn't know where I was just to be out the
- 9:21Speaker 1: comedy clubs. She also gave me these oysters, so let's
- 9:28Speaker 1: you know what's going on my house. So at eighteen,
- 9:31Speaker 1: UM I got a radio job at the clar Clip channel,
- 9:35Speaker 1: and UM, there was was doing a live remote a
- 9:37Speaker 1: Unise studios and we had this band here called three
- 9:40Speaker 1: oh three. The band had three songs on the radio.
- 9:42Speaker 1: They had some hot records, but nobody gave a funk
- 9:45Speaker 1: about them. Nobody people will come up. I said, the
- 9:47Speaker 1: three or three they got that song. I forget the song,
- 9:50Speaker 1: but nobody cared. But then there's a skinny little white kid.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Are you saying that? At Universe Studios? Probably like an
- 9:54Speaker 1: hour later, And this is around two thousand nine, two
- 9:57Speaker 1: thousand ten, and everybody knew cholos, little black kids, old
- 10:02Speaker 1: white ladies wanted to picture with him, and me and
- 10:04Speaker 1: my co workers was like, who's that? And then one
- 10:07Speaker 1: of the people told he's he's on YouTube. And in
- 10:09Speaker 1: my head and two thousands said, what was that? Yeah?
- 10:14Speaker 1: It was, it was. It's probably been out before. I
- 10:17Speaker 1: knew YouTube was the thing just to watch visit, but
- 10:18Speaker 1: I didn't know you could be a personality on it.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And um so when I when when when I seen
- 10:23Speaker 1: the online thing, I just you just gotta adapt. So
- 10:25Speaker 1: I got online. Didn't know how to do it. For
- 10:27Speaker 1: the first five six years. I was cussing too much
- 10:29Speaker 1: and being raggedy and just just being raw. So around
- 10:32Speaker 1: two thousand and fifteen, two thousand sixteen, I kind of
- 10:35Speaker 1: motor myself to be a little better, to be acceptable
- 10:37Speaker 1: by the guidelines and community gidelines and stuff like that,
- 10:40Speaker 1: and me just talking about celebrities and me, I just
- 10:44Speaker 1: I just really don't care what people think. I just
- 10:47Speaker 1: just truly I've been around. I've been around celebrities I
- 10:50Speaker 1: talked about and I they kind of give me a
- 10:53Speaker 1: look like that motherfucking looked familiar. And I have celebrities
- 10:56Speaker 1: d m me before their DJs are managers threatened. I've
- 11:00Speaker 1: been threatened before by a few celebrities. Yeah, I'm not
- 11:03Speaker 1: gonna say who, but I've been Now was gonna be
- 11:05Speaker 1: my next question? Do SI so? Um? Now I remember
- 11:10Speaker 1: so for those of you that don't know, I've known
- 11:12Speaker 1: James for a very long time since it was a
- 11:14Speaker 1: little high schooling. And nobody knows that by the way
- 11:17Speaker 1: you said, those those people that don't know that don't
- 11:20Speaker 1: know nobody knows we go way back. But I'll never
- 11:24Speaker 1: forget um. I had a company previous to this Celeberty
- 11:26Speaker 1: High and I'll never forget you. And Cameron had did
- 11:30Speaker 1: an interview with Kevin Hart right and at the time,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, James was exactly who you you see him
- 11:35Speaker 1: as today, very colorful, very mohawks. He had like these
- 11:41Speaker 1: hamburger head uh socks and and he had these weird earrings.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Just say I was ugly back then, They're just going
- 11:49Speaker 1: to say, that's what you're trying to say, because the
- 11:51Speaker 1: way you're talking about is like, it's just he had
- 11:52Speaker 1: all is weird and hamburger. And then when you see
- 11:57Speaker 1: someone's baby and you don't want to say it's ugly,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and you're like, I big, Like I was just doing that.
- 12:02Speaker 1: But I'll never forget during this interview, so Cameron Head
- 12:06Speaker 1: came and he was like very professional, and I was like,
- 12:08Speaker 1: you know, these celebrities knew they were being interviewed by
- 12:11Speaker 1: high school kids. But I'll never forget that interview was
- 12:13Speaker 1: a pivotal moment for me also being a young person,
- 12:17Speaker 1: which was during the interview, Kevin Hart had addressed who
- 12:22Speaker 1: he felt was going to have like this long successful career,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and I am merely thought he was gonna like look too,
- 12:30Speaker 1: because Cameron's dressed like he has a suit on yet
- 12:33Speaker 1: he was like super professional glasses and he said, hey,
- 12:37Speaker 1: how are you doing like hey, like like like he's
- 12:39Speaker 1: like Clark Kent. He was super professional and I totally
- 12:42Speaker 1: got it. And that's how one of them, James shows up.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I think he had a mohawk. It was just like
- 12:47Speaker 1: extreme and I was like, semi mortified, semi wanted to
- 12:50Speaker 1: pull James from the interview. I said, I didn't know this,
- 12:53Speaker 1: Thank you for telling me that. But I was just
- 12:55Speaker 1: like I felt on the lines of Cameron. But one
- 12:57Speaker 1: of the things that Kevin Hart addressed, and I'll never
- 13:00Speaker 1: forget this, is that by James being unique, he was like,
- 13:03Speaker 1: I will always remember you, and you will always stand out,
- 13:07Speaker 1: and you know, he could see this bright future head
- 13:09Speaker 1: and I remember just being taken back by that statement,
- 13:12Speaker 1: Like how important is to be yourself? I learned that
- 13:15Speaker 1: from our Lawrence. That's the funny thing. I did an
- 13:18Speaker 1: interview somebody talking about like, um, how did he get
- 13:22Speaker 1: his successes? He said, took longer because he was trying
- 13:24Speaker 1: to be himself. I don't want to conform to anybody,
- 13:34Speaker 1: especially My thing is I think who I am it
- 13:37Speaker 1: is perfect enough. Some some a lot of black people,
- 13:39Speaker 1: they like try to perform to two white guylines and
- 13:42Speaker 1: try to make sure they're happy. Not me. If I'm
- 13:46Speaker 1: that guy, would be that guy all the time. But
- 13:47Speaker 1: you don't ever walk into an office and put on
- 13:50Speaker 1: like a white person voice. No, this is the thing,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about? What about Nick Good? Hey,
- 13:56Speaker 1: I'm John, Nice to meet you. That's the That's not
- 14:00Speaker 1: what I'm saying. What I'm saying is I'm not just ignorant,
- 14:03Speaker 1: just ghetto, super loud person. Naturally, I go to restaurants,
- 14:07Speaker 1: I'm myself. But if there's a time where I still
- 14:09Speaker 1: talk like who I am, I'm not gonna change who.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I Am not going to change my morals. I'm not
- 14:13Speaker 1: gonna change eyes, how I treat certain people. Anybody's equal
- 14:16Speaker 1: to me. Everybody don't care if you're a billionaire janitor.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Everybody is equal to me. So I just want to
- 14:21Speaker 1: I purposely make content. Was talking about like black lives
- 14:25Speaker 1: matter and stuff like that, because when I was younger,
- 14:27Speaker 1: I've been through a lot of racist things. I had
- 14:29Speaker 1: a lot of UM, I had some crazy things happened
- 14:31Speaker 1: to me. UM in middle school. I don't even you
- 14:34Speaker 1: know this one middle tell us something I don't know. Please.
- 14:38Speaker 1: So I was in middle school and I was the
- 14:39Speaker 1: president of middle school and the reason why I was
- 14:42Speaker 1: president of the president gets to be Santa Claus, and
- 14:44Speaker 1: I want to be Santa Claus. So I went to
- 14:46Speaker 1: a racist area in middle school and so, um, apparently
- 14:50Speaker 1: I'm I'm I'm eighth grade. I don't know what's going
- 14:53Speaker 1: on the whole school. Apparently it was. It was it
- 14:55Speaker 1: was a problem that I was gonna be Santa Claus,
- 14:57Speaker 1: a black Santa Claus. I didn't notice at the time.
- 14:59Speaker 1: I had to counsel saying, are you sure you'd be, like, yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I want being president, and my teacher and student government teachers.
- 15:06Speaker 1: And then so when I was Santa Claus, the next
- 15:08Speaker 1: day after my Santa Claus set up when he was
- 15:10Speaker 1: taking picture with the kids and all that next day
- 15:12Speaker 1: the schools tacked up with niggers all over the school.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Yeah I'm not I'm not saying it was because of me,
- 15:18Speaker 1: but I was black Santa Claus. And then the next
- 15:20Speaker 1: day that's not the first time at the school it
- 15:22Speaker 1: was tacked up, but it just so happens. I felt
- 15:24Speaker 1: like that has something to do with me. And then
- 15:27Speaker 1: by five years later in high school, I seen a
- 15:29Speaker 1: white girl that went to that middle school. She told
- 15:31Speaker 1: me her father took her out that school because they
- 15:33Speaker 1: allowed a black sand they allowed me to be Santa
- 15:35Speaker 1: Claus may be in black in Santa Claus is a
- 15:38Speaker 1: fictional character. It's like if you came as a black Jesus,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I could I could see them almost trying, because you
- 15:45Speaker 1: know how you read the Bible, and it's like the
- 15:47Speaker 1: way they described Jesus at the end of the day,
- 15:49Speaker 1: Jesus is Mexican, because at the end of the day.
- 15:53Speaker 1: When I was in high school, I was I had
- 15:56Speaker 1: transferred high schools, and I'll never forget. I would always
- 16:00Speaker 1: leave my locker open because I could never I just,
- 16:03Speaker 1: for whatever reason, suck at the locks, like you know,
- 16:06Speaker 1: the directions and stuff. Just three numbers. Struggled with that.
- 16:08Speaker 1: I struggled really hard. Three numbers literally be at my
- 16:13Speaker 1: locker like twenty minutes. So I would always leave it open.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And uh, one day I came to school and I
- 16:18Speaker 1: would always have my dry race board in there, and
- 16:20Speaker 1: they had put swatzikas in KKK in it, and I
- 16:23Speaker 1: I'm Jewish and Jamaicans. It was like, damn, you know
- 16:28Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Yeah, Jamaican, Yeah, kids are kids are evil.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Two kids, it's always it's always gonna be here. This
- 16:35Speaker 1: evil has always gonna be here. But that's why you
- 16:37Speaker 1: just gotta be strong within yourself. You gotta love yourself
- 16:40Speaker 1: first and fun everybody else. Yeah, I agree, and but
- 16:44Speaker 1: I remember that being the first time that I had,
- 16:47Speaker 1: I think more trust issues because you knew about races
- 16:49Speaker 1: and I had seen my neighbors called my mom the
- 16:52Speaker 1: N word like the like that was. I was like,
- 16:56Speaker 1: probably ten, the first time I've seen them treat her differently.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But did you reallye that what's going on? When you
- 17:01Speaker 1: did you? Did you just accept it? I think that
- 17:04Speaker 1: was my maybe my first encounter with the N word.
- 17:07Speaker 1: It was just like, oh, my first encounter. I think
- 17:10Speaker 1: we was so memorable because they treated her so bad
- 17:12Speaker 1: and she was so nice, and she would just be like,
- 17:14Speaker 1: you gotta push through it. You gotta be nice. And
- 17:16Speaker 1: those same neighbors that called her the N word and all.
- 17:19Speaker 1: It took her like twenty years, but eventually they're like cordial,
- 17:24Speaker 1: like they don't talk to her like that anymore. But
- 17:26Speaker 1: as a kid, you you develop a sense of fear, like, oh,
- 17:29Speaker 1: there's a blind hatred. When they did it in my
- 17:33Speaker 1: high school, I skipped prompt because I was so paranoid,
- 17:35Speaker 1: like I didn't know who had done it at the time,
- 17:38Speaker 1: you know, they were it was burned across like weird stuff.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I was like, oh man, this is like upstate New York. Okay, yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: in Brooklyn, we didn't really deal with it, but an
- 17:47Speaker 1: upstate it's not enough diversity. But it was traumatic, you know,
- 17:52Speaker 1: So what did you learn from it? Like do you
- 17:53Speaker 1: feel like like today, like do you put up with it?
- 17:56Speaker 1: And so if somebody did that today and you knew
- 17:58Speaker 1: who it was, what is your actually, Well, I remember
- 18:01Speaker 1: my senior year there was an incident where a boy
- 18:04Speaker 1: called me the N word to my face, and you know,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I'm Jamaican from Brooklyn. I've folled him to the same
- 18:13Speaker 1: dude came up to you and litterally and called you
- 18:15Speaker 1: a N work to your face. What are you doing?
- 18:18Speaker 1: I'm creature of habit probably tight boots okay around there
- 18:26Speaker 1: because my fiance would be like, you know, he'd probably
- 18:29Speaker 1: be like that. That's the crazy thing with just being black,
- 18:33Speaker 1: Like you see these videos I'm not talking about like
- 18:36Speaker 1: the cop ones, but just videos of just a random
- 18:38Speaker 1: white person rund a black person and the black people.
- 18:41Speaker 1: We just have to naturally be the calmed ones, because
- 18:44Speaker 1: if we snap, were looked at as the animals. Nobody asked, oh,
- 18:48Speaker 1: why did you smash his head with the frying pan,
- 18:51Speaker 1: But you didn't see the fitting twenty second before that
- 18:53Speaker 1: when he said it, called him an inn word thirty
- 18:55Speaker 1: two times and saying all this race, I think it
- 18:58Speaker 1: needs to be legal. I think I need to be
- 19:00Speaker 1: about to just ailbow somebody, and they call me a
- 19:03Speaker 1: racial slurk. It's a reaction, it's a work. It's an
- 19:06Speaker 1: emotional reaction out of people. I actually had an incident
- 19:09Speaker 1: this past weekend. My fiance and I were traveling to
- 19:11Speaker 1: Austin and, uh, there's a white clerk at the counter,
- 19:17Speaker 1: and we're having issues like the hotel room. You know,
- 19:21Speaker 1: we ran out a suite and the suite wasn't like
- 19:23Speaker 1: up to COVID standards. You know, we're from l A.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Austin's out there, but we were like, hey, you know,
- 19:27Speaker 1: so anyways, we were like, you know, it's not clean.
- 19:31Speaker 1: You know, we need to like either get a different
- 19:34Speaker 1: hotel or just you know whatever. So the lady they
- 19:37Speaker 1: initially fought us on it, but they said, you know
- 19:39Speaker 1: it will switch a room downgrade it because they didn't
- 19:41Speaker 1: have any more sweets, and we switch rooms. We check
- 19:43Speaker 1: out the next day and I we asked for a
- 19:45Speaker 1: receipt and the ladies like all flustered. She's like getting
- 19:48Speaker 1: all angry. And the fear that crept into me at
- 19:52Speaker 1: that time was I left the counter to take a
- 19:54Speaker 1: call and my fiance, you know, he's trying to be
- 19:57Speaker 1: calm and this you know this white ladies. She starts escalating, hyperventilating.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I put on my camera because I think as a woman,
- 20:06Speaker 1: you're vulnerable. It was like, you don't want anything to
- 20:08Speaker 1: happen to your your fiance. Yeah, and um so anyways,
- 20:14Speaker 1: she starts hyperventilating, screaming bully and no, no, and she's
- 20:18Speaker 1: behind like a counter, but she's put it on the
- 20:21Speaker 1: whole song and dance yes, and he's just calmly speaking
- 20:25Speaker 1: to her. And the whole time he's like, we gotta
- 20:26Speaker 1: be calm because you know, we're black and people are gonna,
- 20:30Speaker 1: you know, trying to make us out to be the
- 20:32Speaker 1: bad guy. And he's like colched me to you know,
- 20:33Speaker 1: part of me was like, you're not even wrong. That's
- 20:38Speaker 1: called the police and the police came and the police
- 20:40Speaker 1: were looking at her like she was crazy. But the
- 20:42Speaker 1: whole time, the whole thing we're telling ourselves is be calm,
- 20:46Speaker 1: make sure that um you know, because we're automatically judged
- 20:50Speaker 1: at a higher degree, which sucks because we're all sitting
- 20:53Speaker 1: there prepping ourselves even though we weren't wrong the entire
- 20:56Speaker 1: time for this crazy when it comes to us, people
- 21:01Speaker 1: forget to ask why they acted that way. They just
- 21:03Speaker 1: get the actions. That sucks, But not that I don't
- 21:07Speaker 1: want to spend more time on this topic. I have
- 21:09Speaker 1: to know who are like, yeah, quick pivot, I have
- 21:14Speaker 1: to know why I have you because we don't have
- 21:15Speaker 1: that much time left. But I do have to know.
- 21:18Speaker 1: In regards to you being in an influencer, what would
- 21:22Speaker 1: you say, like, who is your favorite celebrity to cover
- 21:25Speaker 1: or favorite topic to cover? Besides you know, the Black
- 21:29Speaker 1: Lives movement? Okay, so I make it. I'm I don't
- 21:34Speaker 1: talk about black women. I found a black pop. Don't
- 21:38Speaker 1: see that there was a problem. At one point in time,
- 21:39Speaker 1: I used to use a motion of my videos like
- 21:42Speaker 1: like stuff I was angry at. But now I would
- 21:44Speaker 1: you say it was a problem because I had I'm
- 21:48Speaker 1: a comedic channel, so I still talk about the same issues,
- 21:51Speaker 1: but I always take a comedic approach. I try to
- 21:53Speaker 1: be smart about it. So things I love talking about,
- 21:55Speaker 1: like talking about with rappers Messing. I used to like
- 21:57Speaker 1: talking about six nine. But I think we're part of
- 21:59Speaker 1: the problem. While he's popular, people like people like blogs
- 22:02Speaker 1: or just keep people like that are literally popping because
- 22:07Speaker 1: of the hate. Trump was popping because of the hate.
- 22:10Speaker 1: If people that hated Trump didn't say ship, then nobody
- 22:13Speaker 1: want to MAGA. It should be a regulass president doing
- 22:15Speaker 1: this thing Trump. I sick of sick of Trump, Like
- 22:20Speaker 1: I don't care politics all that, just him, this orange motherfucker,
- 22:24Speaker 1: just the way he acted as a grown ass man,
- 22:28Speaker 1: just not even as a president, just as a grown man.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It's just pissing me off. And um and it was
- 22:34Speaker 1: just too much. And actually I see just things are
- 22:36Speaker 1: getting better in media. It's like you're not looking at
- 22:38Speaker 1: CNN every day. You just able to watch stuff again,
- 22:41Speaker 1: not worried about Trump gonna start a war with buddy
- 22:44Speaker 1: buddy with North Korea, buddy buddy with Russia and all
- 22:46Speaker 1: these people, and just he just got on my nerves.
- 22:49Speaker 1: I didn't like that time. It was a very like
- 22:52Speaker 1: Twitter feedes was all about him, Like how many Orange
- 22:54Speaker 1: jokes could I come up with? I called him tangerine,
- 22:56Speaker 1: I called him vitamin C, called them all type of
- 22:59Speaker 1: your rang of than I'm like, I'm running out of
- 23:00Speaker 1: orange ship that I can't make any more videos on him.
- 23:03Speaker 1: So who was your favorite person in me and the cover?
- 23:05Speaker 1: I like covering the Rock because he has you all
- 23:08Speaker 1: have like a little good relationship going. Yeah, he posted
- 23:12Speaker 1: a few of my videos me rosing. He wasn't He
- 23:14Speaker 1: was at the WUF So that's all they did was
- 23:16Speaker 1: talking to each other. So what I do to him,
- 23:18Speaker 1: I'll be clowning him. He'd he'd be talking in the
- 23:21Speaker 1: d M s and stuff like that. But other than that,
- 23:24Speaker 1: The Rock somebody I like, I like making fun of
- 23:26Speaker 1: people in their life's not too affect it. What do
- 23:29Speaker 1: you mean? So let's say Kim Kardashian really has something
- 23:33Speaker 1: going on in her life like like deep. I don't
- 23:35Speaker 1: like making videos about that because that's something that's really affective.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Are you talking like the Kim and Kanye? Just what
- 23:42Speaker 1: is Kims got going on? That's so deep? And I'm
- 23:45Speaker 1: not poking fun of it. I just do it out
- 23:47Speaker 1: there if somebody is going through something deep where I
- 23:50Speaker 1: start to notice their life is really being affected. Like
- 23:53Speaker 1: Jesse Smolet, like he was wrong what he did, but
- 23:55Speaker 1: you could tell in his interviews something's going on with him.
- 23:58Speaker 1: So I stopped stopped talking about Oh that's cool. So
- 24:00Speaker 1: you're like the anti bully comedian. You just have a
- 24:04Speaker 1: little hard I have a heart. And then it's it's
- 24:07Speaker 1: you can go too far in situations. Um, I can
- 24:10Speaker 1: make a video and then to be and get a
- 24:12Speaker 1: bunch of views and comments and likes because it's a
- 24:14Speaker 1: trending topic, and then I can keep making videos. But
- 24:17Speaker 1: it's at what point of my doing I'm just doing
- 24:19Speaker 1: it for cloud. Now I'm doing to make people. I'm
- 24:21Speaker 1: trying to entertain people. I'm not. I don't want to
- 24:23Speaker 1: never do anything for cloud. I was wondering, like what
- 24:26Speaker 1: the difference is between the cloud and you doing it
- 24:29Speaker 1: for content? And I also want to circle back to
- 24:32Speaker 1: I know we're limited in time, guys, but I also
- 24:34Speaker 1: want to circle that back to, um, the why you
- 24:38Speaker 1: don't touch on black women. Okay, so the difference between
- 24:42Speaker 1: cloud and content, it's talent. People, you ask them of somebody. Okay,
- 24:48Speaker 1: why you want a bunch of followers on TikTok or Twitter?
- 24:51Speaker 1: I just want them. That's the Kim Kardashian effect. I
- 24:53Speaker 1: just I just have them. You have the cloud, that's
- 24:56Speaker 1: the cloud. I just I just want cloud. Now me,
- 24:58Speaker 1: I have a talent. I want to do this for
- 25:00Speaker 1: my stand up career. And that's why I'm growing an
- 25:03Speaker 1: audience because it makes my my job easier to promote
- 25:06Speaker 1: shows and stuff like that, and people can see my
- 25:07Speaker 1: style of comedy and people fall in love with what
- 25:09Speaker 1: I do. So I have a purpose of why I
- 25:12Speaker 1: want the contents to have the cloud. But most of
- 25:15Speaker 1: people just make content that all the time. People follow
- 25:18Speaker 1: me and you go to their page not doing nothing,
- 25:20Speaker 1: which want me follow nothing? And then he said about
- 25:22Speaker 1: the black woman, Um, I think I'm very big on
- 25:25Speaker 1: protecting hashtag protect black women. I just think, um like,
- 25:31Speaker 1: I'm very picky like um like, I think black women
- 25:36Speaker 1: they have to go through racism and sexism. And uh,
- 25:39Speaker 1: I know a lot of white people. They can't acknowledge
- 25:41Speaker 1: their white privilege, but I can acknowledge my male privilege.
- 25:44Speaker 1: So I would like to use my mail privilege to
- 25:46Speaker 1: help black women we loves those sweet it's because it's
- 25:53Speaker 1: it's the truth. There's situations with black women. You take
- 25:56Speaker 1: a black girl, she's tworking, just with her girlfriends, a
- 25:59Speaker 1: bunch of black black men in the conversation. Look at
- 26:02Speaker 1: these thoughts, look at these holes, look at these same situation.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I see that all the time in the shade room Hollywood,
- 26:08Speaker 1: A lot post a picture of a white girl. It's
- 26:10Speaker 1: working and all they're just having fun. What's the difference.
- 26:13Speaker 1: It's just because black women look better with bigger butts
- 26:16Speaker 1: and stuff like that. It's just Yeah, I'll tell you
- 26:19Speaker 1: something that's kind of funny. And I discovered it in
- 26:21Speaker 1: my twenties when I decided to finally put on a dresses.
- 26:24Speaker 1: You know, I would see, say a white girl wears
- 26:27Speaker 1: the dress on for the first time, being pretty. But
- 26:30Speaker 1: but yeah, I remember, you know, I would go to
- 26:33Speaker 1: the store in the same dress that like a white
- 26:35Speaker 1: girl where I will put on and when I will
- 26:37Speaker 1: put on the sun dress, it would look like a
- 26:40Speaker 1: club dress because of the curves. But when she will
- 26:44Speaker 1: wear it looked like an innocent dress like the sun dress.
- 26:47Speaker 1: And that's not your problem. They're booty flattered in the
- 26:49Speaker 1: photo up monopoly board that that's on them to be honest,
- 26:53Speaker 1: So continue about bad But yeah, I remember discovering that
- 26:56Speaker 1: kind of early. But there is a double standard, you know,
- 26:58Speaker 1: it's definitely a double stand And you're right. Race does
- 27:03Speaker 1: or race does play a role in those those conditionalized
- 27:08Speaker 1: black people to hate on other black people, so they
- 27:11Speaker 1: only gotta do it. Yeah, we can't get no unity
- 27:14Speaker 1: because we're conditionalized. We fight over stupidest things. You brought
- 27:17Speaker 1: it up earlier. Light skinned versus dark skin. You're black
- 27:20Speaker 1: at the end of the day, and if a white
- 27:21Speaker 1: man walking here, you're a black chick. White people always
- 27:24Speaker 1: see me as black Black people many debate my blackness.
- 27:29Speaker 1: But now since we are on an episode that eating
- 27:31Speaker 1: want broke, I am just curious as an influencer, what
- 27:34Speaker 1: do them checks be looking like? Is it worth it? Like?
- 27:37Speaker 1: Is it work? Because it's a few years to get
- 27:39Speaker 1: your following in your your situation. So so if you're
- 27:43Speaker 1: an influencers in it for the money, then you don't
- 27:45Speaker 1: do what I do because I cut. I'm very opinionated,
- 27:48Speaker 1: so a lot of people don't want their brand next.
- 27:50Speaker 1: So I my videos make some money, but like somebody
- 27:54Speaker 1: with my amount of following and they're just doing TikTok
- 27:57Speaker 1: dances and regular videos with mug Banks. They're probably making
- 27:59Speaker 1: a shipload of money. But I've never got into making
- 28:03Speaker 1: creative content to be a big influence. I got into
- 28:06Speaker 1: prating content so I could use it for my stand up.
- 28:09Speaker 1: So I never intended to make a bunch of money
- 28:11Speaker 1: off of this. I do make some money, don't get
- 28:13Speaker 1: me wrong, but it's harder for me because I bet
- 28:15Speaker 1: on there talking all this ship and I'm you can't
- 28:18Speaker 1: put the muzzle on. No, But you do have this
- 28:21Speaker 1: new podcast? Are we? Are we able to promote it? So?
- 28:27Speaker 1: So the two things I got. I got my own
- 28:29Speaker 1: podcast called off the Mic podcast. That's the place it is,
- 28:31Speaker 1: what it is? It should I say that I shouldn't
- 28:33Speaker 1: say on the mic, So it's called Off the Mike.
- 28:35Speaker 1: And then my radio show, Blue Leg Caps Show. It's
- 28:37Speaker 1: a syndicated radio show. We're in the Vegas We're in
- 28:41Speaker 1: five markets. I don't know, but I see you guys
- 28:43Speaker 1: move around a lot. Yeah. We just launched in Vegas,
- 28:46Speaker 1: uh this weekend. Actually, yeah, So we're pretty pretty much
- 28:51Speaker 1: of your your hip hop radio show where we're not
- 28:54Speaker 1: politically politically correct. Um, we have fun. So that's two
- 28:58Speaker 1: things I have on air right now, my podcast and
- 29:01Speaker 1: I'm on the co host of the Blue Way Cap Show.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Do you think they'll ever get to a point in
- 29:05Speaker 1: time where you'll take a check and maybe curb some
- 29:08Speaker 1: of your personality or are you gonna stick to it
- 29:10Speaker 1: and take the Martin Lawrence round Martin Lawrence all the way?
- 29:12Speaker 1: Be myself. I've I remember, this isn't like two thousand
- 29:17Speaker 1: seventeen I had. I don't want to say the company,
- 29:19Speaker 1: but it was gonna give me a big check. And
- 29:21Speaker 1: then I gave them the video that I was going
- 29:23Speaker 1: to do because they had to. They had to review it.
- 29:27Speaker 1: And they say, yeah, that the problem is great, but
- 29:28Speaker 1: we can't be in this video. And I said, I
- 29:31Speaker 1: don't want to tell you. I'm not gonna make a
- 29:33Speaker 1: PG video for your ask take like, that's that's my thing.
- 29:39Speaker 1: If you're if you're true to yourself, people, the people
- 29:41Speaker 1: will find you. If the people find you, then the
- 29:43Speaker 1: companies are gonna have to funk with you. That's simple
- 29:45Speaker 1: as that. So just take your time, stop performing to people,
- 29:50Speaker 1: and just be yourself. Everybody's a sucking clone now, Yeah,
- 29:54Speaker 1: that's all TikTok is. Anybody's copying each other's content, just
- 29:56Speaker 1: doing voiceovers and dances. I enjoy your content a lot,
- 30:00Speaker 1: but you know, like I said from the from the
- 30:03Speaker 1: Kevin Hart interview, it's just like at the end of
- 30:06Speaker 1: the day, you being yourself and staying true to yourself,
- 30:09Speaker 1: you out of water. So you don't want to oysters
- 30:11Speaker 1: oyster syrups um. Yeah, so you being yourself, you know,
- 30:20Speaker 1: is really I think your secret to success. Do you
- 30:23Speaker 1: do you feel the same. Yeah. I have to be
- 30:26Speaker 1: and you have to be yourself, and you have to
- 30:28Speaker 1: anything you have to do. You have to study. You
- 30:30Speaker 1: have to study algorithms. You have to study to study
- 30:33Speaker 1: which platform, how to get a better retention rate. You
- 30:36Speaker 1: have to study. Like the reason why I make content
- 30:39Speaker 1: the way I do it because I studied algorithm. A
- 30:41Speaker 1: lot of people it's just a little tip a lot
- 30:42Speaker 1: of people that they pick up their phone and then
- 30:44Speaker 1: they do this, Hey, this is Colin with um blah blah.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Motherfucker's is gone already. They don't care about what So
- 30:53Speaker 1: you gotta come on push play and said, this is
- 30:55Speaker 1: the ship I've seen to day, just because now because
- 30:57Speaker 1: now people sell what you what you say? So, because
- 31:02Speaker 1: the goal is do you want to be a user
- 31:05Speaker 1: on social media or do you want to be an asset?
- 31:08Speaker 1: If you're seen as an asset on Instagram, Instagram is
- 31:10Speaker 1: going to promote you. They go, they see the analysts, okay,
- 31:13Speaker 1: on this page down it's he got nine hours of
- 31:17Speaker 1: watch time today, and they go, does the other page
- 31:19Speaker 1: you promote? So you had the goal is every platform
- 31:26Speaker 1: is to keep people on on on your page because
- 31:29Speaker 1: do you get promoted more? Yes? And what I've learned definitely,
- 31:32Speaker 1: even in this interview, is that time is the most
- 31:34Speaker 1: valuable thing that you have. And look how much time
- 31:39Speaker 1: and money and effort is spent in consuming that time.
- 31:42Speaker 1: You got to choose what you you know you're spending
- 31:44Speaker 1: only only currency that you can't replace. Yeah, well, thank
- 31:48Speaker 1: you so much for coming and trying to poison me
- 31:51Speaker 1: another I'll take it. I'll take one more bite. All right,
- 31:56Speaker 1: where's the camera down? Dramatic? It actually wasn't it? Just
- 32:00Speaker 1: you know, I can have a little bit of m hm.
- 32:07Speaker 1: So I'll let you tewning on breakfast. Well, thank you
- 32:10Speaker 1: for joining us on another episode of Eating Wall Broke.
